Take the broken mask drawing as symbolism (?). A piece of him is now forever a part of Mask, and there's no taking that back.

There are many protrayals of Fierce Deity out there, but I like to think he ain't necessarily mean (quite the contrary), just a bit out of touch with how hylians work and feel. Fierce Deity deemed some things necessary for Mask's survival and well being, and not necessarily all of them were free of consequences. It was done with good intentions tho. If only he bothered to explain/tell Mask that...

They all sing happy birthday off key, dragging out the “to-ooo you-uuuu”. And that’s when Lando does it. 

He runs a finger along the whipped cream at the top of the chocolate cake, turns before anyone can react, and smears it on the side of Oscar’s cheek.

Oscar’s skin is warm. Lando tries to ignore the thrill it sends to his gut, of provoking a leashed dog that has sharp teeth.

Oscar goes very still for a minute, expression in careful neutral. He blinks once, then twice.

Then he turns to Lando, and barely breaks into a smile. Slow and deliberate, Oscar swipes an index finger through the trail that Lando left on his face. All around them, people are laughing. The two of them are laughing, but not at the same thing. Oscar darts his tongue out – pink, Lando thinks, pink like delicate, secret things, things that are hidden inside buds and soft places – and Oscar licks the cream directly off his fingers. 

“Gonna get you back for that one.” Oscar says. 

“I’d like to see you try, mate.” Lando says, good-naturedly.

The camera catches it all. 

But only the two of them understand the low level threat, carefully threaded into Oscar’s tone.
