I am Jewish, what does that mean?
I was born in Colombia on the 49th anniversary of Hitler's suicide, I was raised here but I lived in Israel for about four years. I am not white, I don't look white, and my first language is Spanish. I came back to Colombia three years ago because of the pandemic.
I grew up Jewish and swallowed all the pro-Israel propaganda, I moved there looking for better opportunities and somewhere safe where I could come out of the closet. It took me less than a month to understand where I really had ended up in. It wasn't so different from my own colonized third world country filled with violence.
I did my best, I voted against the current Israeli government four separate times, I worked with and was great friends with many Palestinians and Arab Israelis (there unfortunately is a difference), I went to protests, I donated blood, I donated food and money. I fucking hate Netanyahu with all my heart.
For two years I taught English at a low income school in Jerusalem where all my students were mizrahi jews (from Arab countries) whose families had been kicked out of various surrounding countries in the 20th century. When I spoke to their parents and grandparents they talked about Iran, Morroco, Egypt, Yemen, with such longing and they brought me the most delicious foods. (Two of my students were killed two weeks ago, kids, barely 18 now, much younger when I taught them, I remember them).
My great grandmother on my mom's side was born in Jerusalem and raised in Egypt until all Jews were expelled and she had to flee with my newborn grandfather. They ended up in Colombia because she spoke ladino (Jewish dialect that is close to Spanish) they were undocumented, without a nationality because Egypt had rejected them, they had to lie and pay for falsified documents in order to get a passport, I still have a Red Cross passport in my house with my grandfather's name that determines he has no home country.
My great grandparents on my dad's side were born and raised in Bielorrusia and had to escape with my newborn paternal grandfather from the progroms after they destroyed their shtetl, they tried to make it to the US but they wouldn't take any more Jews so they ended up in Colombia.
My great grandmother on my paternal side was born in Romania, at the age of 12 she got on a boat with her 15 year old cousin, not knowing where it would take them. Her parents had both died and antisemitism was on the rise. She was so afraid that they were going to send her back that she threw her passport (that said JEW in capital letters) into the sea when they arrived at the port of a country she had never heard of, to this day we don't know when her birthday was.
My maternal grandmother is Colombian, she was born and raised here, Catholic until she converted to marry my grandfather, and yet when I went looking up our family tree I found we came from Sephardic Jews that had been expelled from Spain almost 500 years ago by the inquisition.
There are less than 400 Jews in my city that homes over 4 million people. My synagogue has been closed since October 12th, our president has equated all of Israel with Nazism on multiple occasions in the last few weeks. The kids that go to our tiny Jewish school have stopped wearing the uniform so that they cannot be identified. Ours is one of the countries with the least amount of antisemitism in the world. Someone in my university saw my Magen David necklace and screamed at me to go back where I came from. I went online and saw countless posts telling Israelis to do the same.
I am Jewish, I am latina, I am gay. My story is complicated, my relationship with my community is complicated, my relationship with my country is complicated. My relationship with G-d is complicated, my relationship with Israel is incredibly complicated. My history is complicated.
I am Jewish. What does that mean?

Unpopular Hobie takes/opinions
Him and Gwen actually have pretty good romantic chemistry and if it were up to me they would've been canon instead of Ghostflower with Miles having moved on from Gwen romantically and Gwen thinking of him purely platonically from the get-go
But also, they work just as well as found siblings and NOT parent-child because even with the interpretation of adult Hobie,he has Dad Friend vibes, not Actual Dad ones. The one thing i would change about romantic Ghostpunk also is making Gwen a half white afrolatina since Hobie would be poc4poc for obvious reasons
The trope of him being a popular target of thirst on Earth 138 thanks to being in a band is honestly kind of stupid because yes he's objetively handsome as fuck(/platonic)but also he's also a black person living in 1970s England.Speaking from the experience of a biracial homecountry raised afrolatino who grew up with the white side of his family only and went to predominantly white/nonblack poc schools,he definitely gets a lot of comments on his apperance but not positive ones and the best he'll get from most is a backhanded compliment
He dosen't listen to indie music but he loves indie games since part of anti-capitalism is supporting small bussiness and creators
Him and Noir wouldn't be all that close-Obviously they'd like eachother because Noir's based but i can't see him ever being into him romantically, even disregarding that he looks exactly like Peter B which would make dating him So Fucking Weird
He hates being theythemed-No shade to people who headcanon him with any pronouns or do actual respectful nonbinary rep with him but i find the idea that Hobs being nonbinary means he'd use only they/them to be just reinventing the gender binary as a genderqueer person who largely perfers he/him even if he's got they/them in his pronouns set too
He's jamaican(Honestly not entierly sure if this is in unpopular but i looked for content and found only a small amount of posts)
Related to the above,i fucking HATE the weed jokes because oh yeah,of course the jamaican guy is a stoner hahaha NOT you guys aren't funny
His favorite color is pink and that's why he turns pink when he's happiest(Around Miles because babyboy is CRUSHING and around Mayday because again,Dad Friend so obviously he loves babies)
He's not really a sexual person including his humor and tbh i find very creepy how often he's assumed to be based off his flirtations because y'all,Gwen's a MINOR and SO IS MILES and the crop top is to be gnc, stop making it weird, this is a kids movie!Plus that's not even getting into black male stereotypes
I don't like the idea of him and Miles G or Pavitr together because no hate Chaipunk shippers because i truly do think it's a good ship but all the feminization of Pavitr has ruined it for me and it's not helped by me not seeing anything between them in the movie and just casually shipping them and i think it's better if our Miles gets a Hobie and Miles G gets a Ganke seeing as our Miles was robbed of his thanks to the Mcu so it's equal. Also Prowlerpunk shippers are always so fucking goofy,STOP drawing Hobie without his beautiful black features other than his melanin
Him and Jessica have a mother-son relathionship that parallels Miles and Peter B's,including that Hobie has an actual mom but diffinerating in that he actually views her as a parental figure(while Miles sees Peter B as his older brother)-Purely headcanon based but that little interaction between them at the end screamed that they're close so she knows his attitude
Margo is one of his best friend's because obviously she is,i don't even need to explain why and Margobie/Siblings!Punk Byte both have way more of a basis than Noirpunk
His counterpart in Batman crossovers should be Stephanie Brown or Duke Thomas, not Jason Todd because they share some similarities but Stephanie and Duke are almost exactly like him(Including names regarding him and Stephanie and i've even nicknamed her Stephie so there's that)
And also,he's a Percy Jackson and Katara kinnie
Rio and Jefferson would actually fucking love him because guess what,it's stupid and transparently antiblack to automatically assume a black couple would see a black boy who's unbelivably sweet-looking but brand him as a thug who's out to abuse their child just because he's alt and isn't a fence sitter about oppression-In fact, they'd tease Miles about someone as dorky as them pulling someone as cool as Hobie and there should be gags about them loving Gwen as a person but being SO relieved he's not actually dating a white girl

Valgrace Assassin (????) AU, where after Leo's Mom dies, Gaea manipulates him into helping her. Like she kidnaps him and next time he wakes up she tells him everything that happened. She tells him "Since your a killer now, you have to embrace it. Not fear it."
. He denies it and escapes where authorities find him... and his family abandon him. They call him a murderer, a Diablo. A few years pass and he's been abused and abandoned. While on the run he kills someone in self-defense. He summons her somehow, and tells her she's right.
. Fast forward to years later, at 15, when he's had a few kills, and still in the system. People are afraid of him now and they tried to lock him up but he's too smart for that. So he's in Foster Care and has been on the run six times, and is sent off to a boarding school. A Wilderness School.
. It's a trap when he gets there and they take everything from him. His weapons, his tools, everything. There's not much he can do without them. Unless... but he hates using that. He doesn't that's their agreement. They gave him a uniform and pencils and school books and that's when they sent him off.
. Everything goes normal in canon from there. Him and Piper meeting up, the fake Jason Memories, Pipers visions, how they met Annabeth.
. The only difference is Gaea talking to him the whole time. She tells him to befriend them. That they'll be useful when he gets his weapons back and then he can kill them.
. That day comes and Gaeas confused too because why doesn't Jason remember anything? Then she dissappears for a while. Leo's gets to camp and finally, finally everything is explained. His powers, his babysitter, his Dad.
. He finds Festus and... and Festus cares. He couldn't use him. He's a machine, Leo's good with Machines. More than his new so-called siblings. Festus gets him.
. Then him, Jason and Piper go on the quest to save Hera. He has that dream with his Dad.
"You know, don't you?"
"I don't blame you. Everything you've done, was because of someone who manipulated you. She made you think that was the only way."
"And what have you done to stop it?"
"I didn't know who it was until a year ago."
"Well it's too late now. It is the only way for me."
"Leo-"
"Wake me up."
"Just listen-"
"I said, wake me up!!"
"I've lived my whole life without you!! I didn't need you then!! And I don't need you now!!"
"But you did. Remember when you prayed for me?"
"I was desperate! And manipulated! Capital G couldn't care for me any more than you can!"
. He wakes up angry and he hates how much he relaxes when Piper hugs him. Hes supposed to kill them.
. But he realizes that Gaeas the bad guy after they save Pipers Dad, for many many reasons, but Piper and Jason don't know about any of it, no one does.
. Mark of Athena comes around and the Eidolon possessing him has so much more reason to it. Gaeas angry, she wants them to turn on him so he can come back. But they keep him on the ship and figure it out. He learns to feel things again as before he purposefully turned them off to kill.
. He turns all his anger towards Gaea and Gods is it so so fucking much and it just grows when Percy and Annabeth fall.
. Khione reveals to everyone there what he did, that he used to be one of Gaeas patrons. "Doing all her dirty work because he's a murderer. Even stooping as low as killing his own mother."
. She kicks him to Ogygia and Piper gets her off before they could think about what she said.
. He lands on Ogygia and Gaea tries to convince Calypso to kill him, out of fear for the future, but Calypso says no.
. He's scared to go back. For the first time in years he's scared. What if they kick him off the ship? What if they hated him?
You would deserve it.
. But while he's questioning it Hazel knows he's innocent.
"Gaea is powerful. She can use people however she wants if she has the right material. Since Leo was a lot younger, I'm guessing he was a lot more vulnerable." After all she understands the most.
. So when he gets back the first thing he's met with is a hug. Piper holding him close, Jason following soon after.
"It's not your fault." And they just stayed there for a while.
--------
I can't think of what to do next, I'm so tired.

Okay so this is prob a baldur's gate 3 spoiler so if you haven't # out that tag, then uh? Yes.
This is also obviously a rant.
So I'm on my 4th playthrough, and my take on the guardian/ emperor changed. Very. Fast. And not in a very nice way.
So the first time I was in love with my guardian, I was in a romance with Astarion, but holy shit I would give the world to my guardian, so yes u can imagine my fucking heartbreak of the moment I saw him, like I had to stop gaming cuz I felt so betrayed.
And then I obviously were just hurt and whatever but nice about it to him.
Then I decided I would actually romance him as my second character, mage dude, and well....
Things happened, and I got the same story he had like "Nobody knew who I was, I had so many friends" bleh bleh, and I remember feeling pretty like 🤨 when bone daddy- I mean Withers, said that mindflayers don't have souls like? Excuse you what about the emperor??
And I ofc slept with him, which u can do, and I obviously don't kink shame if you're into it, but i was not
I was hiding my face, peeking through my fingers, and then just regret everything ever.
And like? Romance was fine, and I didnt turn into a mindflayer at the end, cuz I was also dating Karlach and well... can't be a mindflayer then.
And the whole thing that HE was the founder of Baldur's gate? That HE IS him??? Honestly?
At that point I felt even more upset, and disgusted. Not only cuz of what he did, but just... him. And ugh. (I didn't do that quest the first time, cuz I didn't know)
Then come me as durge...
First of all... I've never loved a character more, maybe Gage from fallout 4, than my durge, a queen like wow💅🏻
And with her I was just done with the emperor, like... I expected him to be the same, ya know?
But no.
No.
He was NOT!!!! the same.
And this game have sent me on so many rollercoasters I wanna lie down and never get up
I feel so betrayed? So... stupid I feel so fucking stupid, cuz Withers SAYS mindflayers don't have souls?? And I????? Believe this tentacle monster????? Like wtf
And then only to learn that his "friends" were actually NOT???? But basically possessed to "hang out" with him?
And yeah he claims that he ate "only criminals" but how do we know??? If he lied about that? He probably ate other people too, he probably didn't even spiderman/batman himself around like he said/showed us he did.
As I played more and more durge I just felt disgusted and a fool, like?? I do talk, rant, to friends and yes even family, when I'm either yay obsessed about the game/character or to upset rant, and everybody knows about the beginning and end and on actually how much this hurt and I know its so stupid
But o m g I am so??? UGH
I hate him, like I fr fr fr hate him.
I'm playing as a Githyanki now, and I'll find out how that works out, but bruh.
Istg if I find out more shocking things, I will just nap for 3 days...
And I'm trying to stay as much gith as I can, but also how mellow my dude is, but yeah...
I fucking hope I don't have more to add to this, cuz that's gonna be in all capital letters istg

I'm seeing Judao-captelism being use to described Jewish people who voted Republican or dont fully agree with progressive socialist ideology. It's being used by black identitarians and marxists, so hopefully it says that way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At its core, Judaism is about unity: the unity of the one G‑d, the universe and the unity of all people created in the image of G‑d. And yet, Judaism also gives the ordinary man an irrevocable right to his own property—as we see in the Torah’s division of the Land of Israel to tribes and families, as well as in the command to celebrate the Jubilee year (where all property is returned to its original owners every 50 years). The idea of land ownership by definition creates separation and division within society, contradicting the ideal of unity. How is it possible for us to live with these opposing ideals in our philosophy and practice? ____________________
Goes on with how the 'every 7 years fields are fallowed and whatever grows there is free game' evens thing out.
It's a good read, and I've got no doubt there's 47 Rabbi's with 63 different takes on the matter but it seems to be a reasonable conclusion to me.
I'd love to hear a Jewish perspective from some members of the Jewish community on all this since I'm just a gentile out here trying to do my best to help which lands me in the 'sticking with safer answers' area when complicated situations come up. _______________
As for socialism, I could pull up Marx's take on "The Jewish Question" but it's just easier to paraphrase.
Marx's take was 'I don't mind Jewish people I just wish they weren't so Jewish' basic idea worked out to cultural genocide, everyone has to have the same celebrations, traditions and all that good stuff regardless of the history of that particular group since the group is getting absorbed into the collective.
Hopefully this here will give you the start of some tools to respond if need be, but honestly the thinking I'm having with this is the current mode is Rothschild conspiracies without the Rothschild's.
Jewish people just like everyone else are also individuals and each one will make up their own mind about whatever subjects they want, so you're gonna get these guys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And folks in the community that actively hate the guy.
People trying to use phrases like Judeo-capitalism just show that they're willing to take a page out of the nazi playbook if it serves their purpose, much like the ones that try to claim the Jewish people today aren't the same as the one's from Jesus's time.
Genetics has proven that one wrong.

hey first of all i LOVE you’re work
i wanted to ask which fics you’re currently working on ?
𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨, 𝐝𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐲 - tldr at the bottom of the post xx
first of all - thank you🥰 I honestly never knew I would get this far, but posting my work here was the greatest decision I could've made. It feels amazing to post my work and have people enjoy it just like me :)
second - I have six requests in the works right now. I work in order of request and (because I'm traveling a lot these next few months) I'm mostly going to be doing requests and any other one shots that I come up with/want to indulge myself in. I really want to do fics with Brienne (i love her so much) and even some of the lovely Morningstar, so I'll either follow the requests or post something of my own.
This is also going to allow me to build up my next series because it's actually a really cool idea (to me) but I have absolutely no idea how many chapters its going to be.
★ In terms of requests, I have (in order from top to bottom):
Enemies to lovers - hate sex, Larissa x Reader
Lyric Fic to Eat Your Young by Hozier - going the sexual route with this one instead of the real meaning (about capitalism lol), Larissa x Reader
Sex Tape - g!p Larissa x Reader, plot twist, good ending
Lyric Fic to Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Ray - romantic, full of fluff, Larissa x Reader
Hecate Hardbroom x Reader - I'm currently looking into this character, but she seems really cool. Anon, if you have any specific requests for this, shoot me another message in my inbox please. I wanna know if you want fluff or smut or if you want anything specific to play out <3
Virgin Reader x Larissa Weems - first time, everyone expected otherwise from reader, soft
What's above is what's in the request. When I get there, titles will be posted to my masterlist of what is in the works in sections, but the titles are subject to change. The top request is the one I'm currently working on, so the title is actually already on my masterlist.
★ In terms of series (in the works, not coming out for A WHILE):
Larissa Weems x Professor Reader (title on my masterlist)
Brienne of Tarth x Reader
these are both on the longer side, are still in the works, and are listed VERY vaguely because the ideas I have behind them are ones I haven't seen before (I am and will continue to gatekeep, sorry xoxo)
★ When it comes to my own ideas:
I have around 6-7 one shots, two of which have the potential to become series. HOWEVER, I do prioritize my requests, so I won't mention my ideas for them because I do not know when they will come out. Most are Larissa x Reader, there's one that's Lucifer x Reader, and there's another where I don't know if i should do Brienne, Larissa, or Lucifer (it will probably be Brienne, though).
★ Other Notes:
sections of other characters will be created on my masterlist when a fic with them in it gets posted, but I seem to be a main Larissa Weems blog. If they're one-offs, they'll be posted in an "others" sections.
please remember I'm in college and also work, so things might take longer than some of you may like (I'm getting there, I swear)
look at my masterlist before turning in requests - there are some things I won't write, so if it's requested then I'll skip over that part of the request or the whole request entirely
TLDR: 6 requests, 2 series, 6-7 of my own ideas in the words. I prioritize requests sent to my inbox, and I work in order. Titles of things will be posted on my masterlist in sections and are subject to change. Series are on pause for me due to travel, so don't expect them for quite some time.
Thank you for the ask, lovely anon. This is the first one I've gotten that was just a question, and it was a nice excuse to update everyone else as well. Any questions like these will be under the same tag on my profile (second tag down below).

Trapped
First posted: July 30, 2018
Focuses on: Jason Todd (and Bruce Wayne)
My favorite bookmark: "i think this is my favorite jason fic now?? shit" thank u but I've written better, please come back
Tier: Top 20 in terms of hits, kudos, and bookmarks, surprisingly
This is my "behind the scenes" series where I indulge myself horribly by annotating my fics. Link to the fic itself above. Thoughts below the cut.
Another BatFam Week entry, but this time the prompt is the title.
This one started with a very specific kinetic image of being able to feel Bruce's hand covering Jason's eyes and knowing why. Very horse blinders, but soft and dadly. From there it was just a matter of writing it.
A panicked whine whistled through the dark.
In my own fics, the use of "whine" is very "Oh hi, I've been binging fic indiscriminately for weeks and now have plunged headfirst into writing without knowing a thing about how to do it my own way." No shade on people who do use that verb. I just don't anymore, because it's not my style.
He was buried. Buried in the dark with the bugs and the worms and the dirt.
Treble parallel structures are just the best and I rely on them way too much but also I AM NOT SORRY.
He swung his arm in a panic, forearm slamming against the wall of rubble. Nothing moved, but his arm screamed, so he joined it.
☺️
That was him. Good, good, that was good, dead people didn’t know their own name, because they were dead, but he was going to be dead because he couldn’t see and couldn’t get out and oh god he was buried again—
I really hecking love stream-of-consciousness panic, though I would edit some of the commas here. They were technically, grammatically correct, but a few implied breaths Jason was definitely not taking.
Also I don't remember if it was this fic or another early one but some commenter tried to be like "capitalize that g." No. When the characters reference the deity or deliberately the name, that's God. This is god.
No matter where Jason had cried out for him—in a warehouse in Ethiopia, in a muddy grave, on the banks of the Pit—Bruce had never been here.
Listen, you might think you hate your dad, but when you're living out your worst nightmare, it's good to have him around! Like oh thank goodness AN ADULT, and not just any adult, the ADULT WHO FIXES THINGS.
Bruce’s hand tightened on his ankle.
Some things are just fun to write because it's less about imagining and more about, no, I can just tell you Bruce has his gloves on and his fingers are around Jason's ankle and the pad of his thumb is pressed to that little hollow between the ankle bone and the Achilles heel, I'm not conjuring it, that's just how it is.
It was a ludicrously heavy beam, and his muscles were already weak from panic and fading adrenaline.
I have no idea how heavy concrete with a rebar center actually is. If I were Audrey, I would have googled it and researched down to the ounce. As it is, my brain went "It's like the Little Billy scene in Rocketman, it's fine."
“I have died here,” Jason reminded him, voice teetering like a small figure on a bridge.
I pat past me on the back for that wording.
Bruce placed his hand over Jason’s eyes, sandpapery callouses rubbing across soft eyelashes and bloody skin.
Bruce has my dad's hands. Which doesn't actually make sense because Bruce is a manual labor guy and my dad's only callouses are writing callouses, but it's true.
“You’re not alone. I’m here, and I’m not leaving you.” Bruce kissed Jason’s forehead tenderly, then prompted, “Say it.”
Yay forehead kiss.
“You are not alone.” “I am not alone.”
I am not fond of dialogue-only endings (when I do them.)
Also, to pull out one of my own replies from the comments:
The hill I choose to die on is that the majority of both the strife and bliss between Bruce and Jason at any point in their lives centers on the fact that Bruce is the closest anyone has come to earning total trust from Jason. Period. So that makes every betrayal ten times worse but also means that when the chips are down, Jason will turn to Bruce.
Another gem from the comments: my elation that @cerusee (whose work I had devoured) read AND liked this fic AND liked it well enough to text it to @audreycritter (who had not yet appeared like a Jack-in-the-Box to drag me bodily into friendship.) I tried to play it cool in the reply. I was not chill in real life.

I feel like so many people don't understand that heteronormativity and conforming still exist if Mike is bi like to me it possibly makes even more sense because in a way I feel like its more expected for us to just ignore the "gay part" I mean bisexuals literally dont even get accepted when seeking asylum because we're basically supposed to suck it up and stay closeted forever and sometimes I read stuff from people and it's like well yeah makes sense that you'd think it makes no sense. And not even in a bad way just they make it very clear they don't consider that some problems aren't exclusively capital G gay problems
Yup!! but honestly I don't have the energy to explain this anymore, in this period of time in particular, they can keep blabbing about it I'm gonna just do my own and be happy waiting for the show to explain it
hopefully they'll get it then... otherwise they will hate s5 if things happen like I believe, it's sad for them, but trying to put my energy into convincing others that we are humans with complexities and get affected by heteronormativity and internalized homophobia too is exhausting and I'm not really into it anymore...
thank you for the very clear ask!! 🩷🩷

hope this isn't weird but i am Thinking about when you said that pets in your universe aren't really gendered bc that's just so fascinating to me ... cuz like, doesn't Mason still call his pets "boys"? and they still have pronouns? so it's like Invisible Gendering ... i'm not trying to critique btw i'm just like spinning this around in my brain and thinking about how IRL people project genders onto their dogs or whatever (i.e., "he can't wear a pink collar, he's a boy!!") and i'm wondering whether it's similar in your pet-verse. like maybe pets don't have a capital-G Gender but they've got like... gender-lite.
which brings me to an interesting question: you said that Mason doesn't believe a pet can be trans because that's a human thing. so would he consider it abusive if an owner was treating/dressing their pet in a way that didn't align with the pet's assigned gender, or would he just think it's a little weird? would his opinion change if the situation was causing distress to the pet?
TW: transphobia (again… only towards pets? mason is confusion)
I deeply appreciate that my silly ocs are rotating in your head!!!
You hit the nail on the head of “it’s how people treat dogs irl” or at least that’s how I’m writing him. Gender-lite is a good way of describing it because it’s Mason’s projection of it onto something he doesn’t believe is the same level of sentience (like when my sweater falls off my shoulder I respond with “ma’am please return to your assigned seat.”)
He buys male-coded things for them and calls them “his boys” because he’s assigning it to them. Assigned Male By Mason. They feel like more than an “it” to him, but it wouldn’t be a wrong pronoun in his opinion. Legal docs probably lost them as “it” and that doesn’t bother him at all. But if someone where to give them something pink or either of them were to ask for a female-coded thing he wouldn’t care. Same way he wouldn’t care if his golden retriever picked up the pink ball in the store instead of the blue one.
If another owner was dressing their “male” pet in “female” clothes (or vice versa) he would assume it was either a personal preference (of the owner) or some sort of social statement. Would he care? No, he’d probably support the concept of “don’t gender things that don’t have one”.
Now… if it was causing distress to the pet… he would see what he could do. He’s fully supportive of some pets having sensory issues if textures or constrictions bother them. So like if a pet confessed they really hated skirts/loose fitting pants because of how they brushed against their legs at unexpected times, he would do his best to talk to the owner about it. That’s not a training thing, that’s a sensory thing the pet can’t fix (he’d still work with the pet on self regulating so they CAN deal with it if that’s really what their owner wants. In the end, it’s all about what the owner wants 😢)
But if the pet didn’t want to where a dress because it made them feel bad? (I’m not sure pets would have the language to describe the gender dysphoria they’d experience). He’d likely push them on that. That reads like disobedience to him.
If they were truly distressed and it was deeply negatively affecting them? He’d be real confused.

The worst kinds of non-religious people are the ones who degrade Christianity for having the exact same traits MANY religions share. It's disgusting, close-minded, privileged, and complete erasure.
"The Bible is fiction" by that logic so is the Tanakh. The Torah, the story of Moses freeing his people from slavery using the wonders of G-d. The Neviyim.
That "sky daddy" you mock is the same God worshipped by Jewish ppl, Zoroastrians, and Muslims, as well as Christians.
MANY religions have sacred texts. Hinduism, the OLDEST SURVIVING RELIGION (recorded), worships multiple gods that form the many faces of greater more powerful Gods. Is that primitive? Does it shock you?
Indigenous religions know many spirits that they believe make up the forces of humanity and nature. The Navajo Holy Ones. The Australian aboriginal Dreaming.
These are their LIVES. Muslims are killed for their beliefs, while some misuse them for tyranny.
The Christians beat the culture out of the Native Americans, and now they're treated like antique humans. Ancient Central American religions paid their gods in the blood of PoWs, and now they're all dead.
Ever since Constantine hallucinated that magic cross in the sky and made Christianity mainstream, the holiness has been dying out. Crosses, SACRED SYMBOLS, are bought and worn by Goths, and Rroma culture is appropriated for the "aesthetic". They mashed Yule (a sacred pagan day to celebrate Midwinter) and Christmas (celebrating the day a refugee family bore the Son of God in a barn) into a capitalism holiday. The Bible and the hijab is twisted toward hateful causes, and now the hijab is the symbol of oppression when it was meant to show respect.
Christians in the age of Rome were hunted, chained up for gladiatorial sport, and blamed for terrorism. Now they have fallen, and have done the SAME THING TO OTHER CULTURES. it was the belief of the poor and oppressed, now its been stolen by hatred and entitlement. Homophobia, xenophobia, racism, hypocrisy, the Rich. Christianity isn't white, european, nice, clean, priveleged, pearl-clutching colonialism. It's about kindness, sympathizing with the oppressed, valuing mothers, raising your voice against injustice, and driving out the rich from holy spaces.
Muslims aren't terrorists. Jews aren't greedy. Buddhists aren't weak. Native Americans aren't primitive. While Christians are often fools, God isnt.
All religion means something. Memory, justice, spirituality. These are people's LIVES.
you hate religion? All religions? All of them are fiction? Maybe to you. But not everyone thinks we're meant to be alone in our lives.
THAT is humanity. Believing whatever takes so that we don't have to be alone. It doesn't matter if a people is the majority. They are people, culture. I don't give jack shit what you say about the assholes in my religion, but mocking the most basic framework of human spirituality is despicable and needlessly spiteful. You are shallow and have a narrow, spiteful view of humanity.
Treat religion with respect, or you'll risk repeating history.

Beta Reader About Me
This is going to be a more in-depth post about me as a beta reader, which will be linked in my pinned post.
First off, hello call me Shark! I'm 18 and go by he/they pronouns. I am open to beta reading for people, whether that's stuff on here or AO3
What I'm willing to do:
Grammer/Capitalization/Punctuation
Cheer reading(pointing out what you did well and what I'm excited to see)
Identify plot inconstancies/where something needs to be clarified
Help with canon/characterization(if I know what/who it is)
American/Midwest information and more specifically Wisconsin information
Pretty much anything else you wish me to help with
*Depending on the fandom and length of fics, some of these will differ in doability*
I am generally ok with any kind of content that you write, but I do have some fic turn-offs. *Note that not everything on this list means I won't beta read for you, but I would like more info/details around them if they are in your fic to see if I'm still comfortable helping*
Mpreg/Anything pregnancy-related
Kid fics(when the main pairing has a kid, not kid-focused fics)
Really dark stories with no happy endings(depends on the story, but I'd prefer a happy/fulfilling ending)
Major Character death
Anything that is meant to hate a certain group/subgroup of people
Really long fics over 100k words
Some things that I am comfortable reading. *Not a comprehensive list*
Omegaverse
Reader Insert
G-E rated fics
Original characters
Canonverse
Alternate Universe
Gore and violence
Potentially triggering topics
I will again read pretty much any fandom you write for including original works, but here are some fandoms that I would be able to help more in-depth with:
The Witcher(Show, Third game, Most of the books), The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Halo(Game series), Marvel, Venom, Star Wars/The Mandalorian, Transformers, Call of Duty, How to Train Your Dragon(I hate the third movie, I'm sorry), Spider-Man/Deadpool(Spideypool), Percy Jackson/The Heroes of Olympus, The Hunger Games, The Divergent Series, Maze Runner, Narnia(Movies only, I don't know anything in the books), Pride and Prejudice/Emma, Disney/Pixar movies, The 100, NBC Hannibal, Rise of the Guardians, Good Omens, Our Flag Means Death, Beastars, Titanfall 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Baldurs Gate 3, Divinity Original Sin 2, Hazbin Hotel, Critical Role(I've only watched Campaign 1 and 3, and the TV show), Once Upon a Time, Anne with an E, Harry Potter, Six of Crows, Twilight, Star Trek, The Conjuring series, Descendants/High school Musical, Guardians of the Galaxy, Oceans Trilogy, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, Top Gun, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones(I've only read the first 4 books though), Fast and Furious, Moon Knight
I will read WIPs/completed works, multi/single chapter works, original works, and anything in between.
If you are interested or have any questions you may DM me. If you do, please provide whether I would be helping with a WIP or completed work, and whether there are any deadlines I need to be aware of. Please also include any warnings I should know about, and what you would want me to help with. I would also prefer to work on Google Docs.
*Even if you are not interested, please reblog for others to see*

If you would allow me to talk about dumb shit:
Hyaline.exe, as a ship, kinda shows off things... I'm not sure what but I feel like I'm onto something. Please note each bit is completely unrelated
First: the disbelief phrases.
Writer above.
The writer is the god above gods. And in a culture where gods walk among men, he obviously ends up being the closest thing to a capital G God. He is the WRITER the god ABOVE gods. There is a linguistic evolution of them shortening it.
Meanwhile, from what I can tell, peaks.... Is just a place. It's probably important, but... It's replacing god. How important can a mountain be? This is a genuine question please help me make my mini essays this little bit easier.
Second: the two idiots scenes together
The easiest one.
The ghost wrote his experiences into thinly veiled fanfic. You could read him like a book (Literally)
Meanwhile, hyaline basically tells nothing, other than who they hate, and who they don't.
And, of course, the most important scenes, the kisses, and the "I love you"s.
The ghost has been, possibly, my most changed character who still stays in their own logic. His redemption was never planned. I just thought it would be funny, and now he is genuinely one of my nicest characters. This is not a joke. He wears his heart on his sleeves around those he trusts. And he trusts hyaline WITH HIS LIFE.
Him leaving his pocket dimension for anything could spell years of agony for him, followed by Being un-existed. Yet he left repeatedly to go hang out with... Well, let's be frank, a mean weirdo loser who everyone hates.
And that's who he is risking his literal existence on.
Because he sees something.
Someone who has made the same mistakes as him.
But hyaline stood up for him too. When the ghosts of the past (or, let's be frank, the shittiest co-worker imaginable) came knocking, they were also ready to risk life and limb just to help him. If they know it or not is up to you.
And three: they both really need therapy
Oughhhhh I love your thoughts btw— and here’s a little Evershock lore rundown to explain the Peaks thing!!
Evershock (the game Hyaline and Hyper are from) is centered around three heroes who all fit the criteria to a prophesy to save the world. Basically,, waaay in the past, a bunch of wizards and sorcerers created the Great Peaks (physically, it’s literally just a mountain range) to purify the evil monsters into beasts docile enough to benifit the world. (Basically, they invented animals by making a magic mountain) Well,,, the wizards prophesied that the mountains wouldn’t always work and a hero would wield the sacred weapon, the Evershock, and save the world forever. One day, the largest of the Great Peaks cracks in half and the spell is undone, spurring the prophecy.
The Peaks are effectively god: a higher power that protects and gives. Saying “Great Cracked Peaks” is like saying “Jesus fucking Christ” etc etc. Hyaline says it more than Hyper does because Hyper has been exposed to the internet.
And the thing about Hyaline only saying who it hates and who it doesn’t— VERY intentional. Hyaline is a textureless faceless shadow of Hyper, and sees itself as such. Hyaline doesn’t think it’s anything more than it’s hatred for Hyper, and so Hyaline’s opinions on people become the only thing it thinks it is. Hyaline wants to make Hyper pay for what he did to it, and wants to do it without help.
And BRO. Hyaline would ABSOLUTELY endure torture specifically to piss off someone who tried to boss it around— even more willing for Apples.exe. Because ‘he’s different’— I said that was just gayness but it’s really true because no one treats Hyaline the way Apples.exe does, and Hyaline notices it even if it can’t fathom why. (Everyone hating on it is totally deserved btw— hyaline is a jackass) Also let me just paraphrase the “[[ I don’t feel anything. I wonder if I’d prefer constant pain…]]” line here cause uh- yeah.
And yeah. Get these mother fuckers a therapy session. Like, yesterday.

WIP Game
Thanks for the tag @fsbc-librarian
RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP list, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it. And then tag as many people as you have WIPS.
I am going to break the rules here, but current WIPs in the active file are:
that dang magic AU which is not progressing because I haven't looked at in a month (weird, I know, I just don't understand why it doesn't get written unless I write it???),
spy AU for the shrinkiclinks Bang that will start posting on SUNDAY I think. I need to double check.
new Marvel Trumps Hate winners to write for (yay so excited!),
and a College AU fic where Steve is small Steve and Bucky is a quarterback that is currently eating my brain.
The working title for my College AU is "History of American Capitalism" and in the fic, Steve is pretty sure they are just friends, would you like an excerpt of their text messages (it's not a question you're getting it):
Steve: you didn't sound like a TOTAL idiot Bucky: wow high praise Steve: and I meant every word of it Bucky: framing this text exchange for when I'm feeling down.  Bucky: you should become a motivational speaker Steve: "you're more or less adequate" a self help book by Steve G. Rogers  Bucky: what's the G stand for? Plz tell me Grover Steve: grant Bucky: no yeah i don't believe that it's def Grover
Anyway, I just think they are cute. This is going to be a total cotton candy of a fic. I think. Unless it gets dark on me. No promises.

On one hand I do not usually feel like I need to justify myself or my media consumption or the stories I love for whatever reasons (flawed or not) but the Tumblr discourse about the Rings of Power has sorta been blowing my mind.
A. I do not believe moral purity is found in what we consume and I'd take the calls for boycott a lot more seriously if they were consistent in also calling out say the Boys, Good Omens, League of Their Own, etc OR if the actual workers on the show or for Amazon were part of calling for any boycott. I'm not about purity culture y'all and this just feels like another take on it. Consumption is not morality unless the rules of the game on Amazon and streaming in general change a lot. Also weren't we just waiting about the fact HBO fucked up it's streaming and started taking shows down?
B. I'd also take it way more seriously if it didn't feel like the whole "don't even hate watch it give them nothing" didn't feel like it wasn't doing the racist's job for them. In fact if I was more conspiracy minded I might suspect that this whole call was started by a racist trying to figure out what would bring progressives over to their side (yeah, make it about the evils of capitalism! That will get them to do our job for us!) (To give people the benefit of the doubt I hope it was started by someone well meaning who cares about labor and didn't realize they were walking right into these people's hands).
C. The idea of judging something before watching it (they hate Tolkien, all the COC are tokenized) is wrong headed to me. I still remember the way fans ripped apart the LOTR trailer back in 2001.
D. Have we ever gotten a perfect Tolkien adaptation? No. Will we ever? No. But the complaints about this one are sorta like.... Yeah well do y'all remember when Gondor wore no pants because Gondor needed no pants, or when Thranduil was a weird goblin looking dude with a crown of berries or when Peter Jackson took Tolkien's anti-war message and gently toasted it over the burning corpses of a the battle of the five armies? Because man I sure do.
E. This is all to say yes I'm absolutely watching it, no it's not perfect, I would die for Disa (and she doesn't feel tokenized at all she's wonderful). You give me Tolkien of course I'm gonna watch the Tolkien. When y'all boycott Good Omens season 2 you can get back to me.
F. In difference to folks who perhaps have stronger feelings than me all posts will be tagged "granddaddy feanors hammer" along with my usual "all the Tolkien feels." (Because my tags have always been labyrinthian and strange and I ain't changing my ways now)

Forspoken and False Progress Under Neoliberalism
Sorry for interrupting the regularly scheduled programming. Time to rant. Warning: this will be unstructured and contain a lotta conjecture. Hope you're not coming to this expecting some cracked academic theory or dialectical analysis; not gonna get it here.
So today, one of my most anticipated games, Forspoken came out.
Tumblr media
I mean, look at this, looks cool, right? I was excited as hell since not only did the gameplay look insane, but it's literally a black-woman isekai storyline. I mean, if that doesn't sound awesome, I think you might need your ears checked. So, I was locked in from day one.
Then, I came down to earth and started to get worried. There was nary a black woman in sight for the actual development of the game. A japanese team, a Wonder Bread set of writers, and some very concerning statements in interviews. Stuff started to look a tiny bit bleak, but I mean, the game still looked how it always did, so I was like... you know what, I'll keep my head up.
Then, we get to The Discourse™. As someone who's been playing games my whole life and loves them dearly, I freaking hate "capital G" Gamers. Like, from gamergate to just general twitter behavior, the overlap between loud gamers and weird takes is insane. Once Forspoken got some more coverage, and we see the story a little more clearly, things just started to devolve. Like, the stuff that's going on today, the reason I'm writing this, is a perfect example of it. If you look on Twitter today, a lot of the stuff relating to the game will be the fact that the dialogue is "cringe" and "marvel-like". I like, don't necessarily disagree, but it seems kinda suspicious when just like a month ago, everyone was fawning over that High on Life game, which feeds heavily into an even more, painfully cringe comedic writing style.
Is it that it's cringe, or is it that people are more critical of this game because of its representation? If that seems like a stretch, don't worry. The game has been called woke too. Even if people don't say the quiet part out loud, implicit bias is still bias, ya dig?
It's so hard to talk about this specific game. Like, it seems like a woefully uneven game, that would be a really interesting subject for measured discourse since it does some really unique things with the movement, combat, and background of the MC, but also falls into pitfalls with how those pieces come together.
I think the thing that bothers me the most about this is the fact that there is some high-ass standard that this game seems to need to be achieving in the eyes of its fans that other games and media just don't. When people are overly critical of things that spotlight marginalized people, it can be hard to not want to torch their critiques. Like, everything gets muddied due to the fact that there's no consistency with what the supposed issues with the object are, and how those same issues go unnoticed in other objects. Again, people did not do this in masse with Deadpool, devil may cry, or any other thing that has this kind of dialogue.
I want to make it clear, if you dislike this stuff wholesale, then great. You're not who this is about.
Now, onto why I think this happens. One of the biggest issues we have with any conversation relating to social injustice is the conversation around responsibility and equity. Whether it's reparations, paying more taxes, DEI training, asking for accommodations, or the n-word, all of these issues revolve around equity and who's responsible. In our prevailing social arrangement (see the tin), people think that we've reached the peak. As in, racism has been solved, people are tolerant of others, etc etc. I think "I don't see color" perfectly encapsulates the issue with the discourse around identity. People think we live in a post-racial society, even though none of the work has been done to interrogate the root of the society such that the incentives for hierarchy and domination become fully untenable. Since everyone (for the most part, and in theory) have the same rights "on paper", why would we need to specifically spotlight voices that were marginalized "in the past"?
What then happens is that since we live in a time that is perceived to be better wholesale than other eras of destitution, it feels like an affront to freedom to try to disrupt "equal opportunity" by asking for "special treatment".
This is goofy. Like, the vapid nature of capital leads to a veneer of progress while under the surface, shit is the same as it was before. You can't get a haircut and become a new person. You just might feel brand new.
I think that in a funny way, this splits in both directions with Forspoken.
On one hand, the conversations around the game, implicitly or explicitly, highlight this faux-post-racial society, where everyone has the same opportunities in theory, but in practice, your results may vary. We'll let you have a game with a black woman as the lead, but we won't involve black women in the creation in a way that is meaningful and liberatory, since "it should be applauded that you're on the tin". But, since we have all of these racist biases and misogynoiristic machinations against black women, as gamers, we're going to look at it with a fine-tooth comb and draw out issues that interestingly enough apply to other games and shit we like but it wasn't an issue then for some reason. Hm. Strange.
As far as the devs go, I mean... a lot of the character stuff is what you get when the people represented aren't involved in the creation of the work in any meaningful way. I'm not going to get into the MC's background and stuff, but that shit is actually cringe and makes the "hip-hoppity walk" quote hit home forreal.
The point is, neoliberalism sucks and will probably be the death of civilization as we know it. Until we're able to truly create meaningful change instead of performative acknowledgment (I'm looking at you, thoughts and prayers), we're going to continue to get people that are less and less informed about the world, the closer they are to privilege.
I apologize if this is poorly structured or incoherent. I was just writing as I go because I was upset. Usually, I wouldn't write from this emotional state, nor would I let Twitter nonsense get to me, but I just wanted to lean into my emotions for once and vomit something out. Anyways, if you got anything out of this, great. If not, I'm sorry. I'll get you a cookie or snack or something.

The biggest reason that I'm cynical about the 'Azula is innately evil types' and most portrayals of her as this in fanfic as well
Is that it shies away from showing her as actually evil. She's simultaneously smart and powerful and never bothers to use her powers to be about as big a game-breaker as Ty Lee which she would be. Sniping someone with lightning before they know she's there, for example. Or going straight up Arnaud Amalric "Kill them all for Agni will know her own" and not bothering with the Dollar Store Joker characterization from the comics.
She could be a very compelling supervillain if written that way. The canon and the fandom don't really WANT to write a Johnny Bates type with fire powers and a grudge against the person who destroyed the world they knew. Because that would involve admitting the Chuck Tingle Turtleduck and War Santa did things to provide a valid grudge to begin with and they'd rather die than admit cartoon characters can be written to make very big mistakes with lasting consequences even when they're written, at least in intention, as capital G Good Guys.
THAT would be an 'evil' Azula narrative actually worth reading. Most of the 'hurka durka ableism' and 'hurka durka calling Zuko Zuzu and Dum Dum is the most evil and heinous thing of them all' approaches aren't that. They're boring, show limited imagination, and limited capacity to approach fictional characters actually written as evil.
Meanwhile *I* created an expy of comics Azula done right who has a 1,200+ bodycount over a decade and rising and is a straight up bomb throwing anarchist who has Stalin tier bad boss status but is fearsome enough like Stalin to get away with it even as everyone around her hates and fears her. Jiren is everything the dollar store Batman villain in the post-canon stories is not.
That's why I have no patience for most fictional Azulas. She's not an impressively written supervillain and she shows people far too fragile to face up to writing the kind of evil that actually deserves a grimdark label. It also stems from the inevitable plagiarism of the show with minor differences that dogs most of the fandom, because they don't know how to write their own stories, merely rewriting the canon in a poor fashion that deserves scorn by itself.
