Hi, Muslim buddy! I'm a big Fitz fan and he's a popular character among the fans, so I was shocked when I found out that you disliked him. I'm curious: why exactly do you dislike him? I've seen a few of your posts about him but it's not exactly clear. I'm also not up to date with the show at all, so have you always disliked him or is it just recently?
Just to be clear, this is not a hate ask! We can have different opinions about a show, it's okay! I'm just curious about your reasoning. 💕
Salam!
First, I want to assure you your ask didn't come off as hateful at all, don't worry!
I tend to tag any fitz negative post as #anti leopold fitz so that fitz fans can easily block it and avoid any negative content about a character they like. You can block it too if you want!
Second, I want to give you a little warning. This will get very long, I apologize, however, please read all of it if you wish to reply/have a discussion. This goes to anyone reading this. I don't want to repeat myself several time (I will link other posts me and others have made that go into more detail)
As to why i dislike Fitz....there's a lot. (more under the cut)
During the earlier seasons (s1-2) I liked him, though certain scenes and things about his character bothered me. The same could be said about the majority of the other characters so I didn't think much of it. He could be funny, I liked the fitzsimmons friendship (for the most part) and he was a cool side character.
In s3 and s4, his character began to change more and more, and I found myself slowly starting to dislike him. There was suddenly more scenes where his words/actions bothered me.
Those seasons are also the ones where fitzsimmons actually got together, and I'm not a fan of the way that ship was handled, mostly due to what it did to Simmons' character. That played a role as well in me beginning to dislike him.
It wasn't until s5 though, specifically after the episode 5x14 "The Devil Complex" that i truly started disliking his character, and it just got worse from there.
I want to be clear that I don't judge or have a problem with anyone who likes his character. I don't think it's somehow 'immoral' if you like Fitz. I just simply don't, here's some reasons as to why:
Cutting open Daisy, threatening an injured, disabled Yoyo, and shooting Mack.
This is the biggest reason. In 5x14, Fitz programs robots to threaten Yoyo, shoot Mack, hold Simmons at gunpoint, and then he personally knocks out Daisy, restrains her, and cuts into her neck. He risks paralyzing her, forces her powers back onto her as she screams in pain and pleads for him to stop (he does this without giving her painkillers, without being certified to give that sort of procedure in the first place, and without the appropriate tools and space required for a surgery. She could have been permanently paralyzed from the neck down.) He throws around disgusting rhetoric, and the show tries to get us to sympathize with him. We get a scene with him and simmons. We get a scene of simmons crying to deke. We don't get a scene about daisy or mack's feelings in the aftermath.
"Fitz was having a psychic split" "he wasn't himself" "it was the doctor, not him!"
ignoring the fact that he was fully himself by the time it got to actually going through with the procedure (he realized he was the doctor all along, before getting to the 'cutting daisy' part) AND ignoring the show not letting him receive help yet him never struggling in that way again somehow (which all seems like bad writing to me) Fitz AFTERWARDS, stated that he didn't regret his actions.
Not only does he say that, but when Daisy is reasonably upset and traumatized, he attempts to dismiss her feelings, proceeds to try and guilt trip her, shift the blame to her, and throw back her previous trauma in her face.
Daisy: we don't turn on our own here
Fitz: do you want me to recount all the times YOU did?
A) Daisy hardly ever turned on them (a few instances could count but implying they do is awful, considering the circumstances she was in. Leaving shield does NOT count as a 'betrayal' or 'turning your back'. This is the SECOND time Fitz blames her for something that is ridiculously unfair. especially because HE is the one at fault here. He is so unapologetic to her.)
The following is taken from a wonderful post made by @stilltryingtowrite:
When a perpetrator of violence is confronted they will often deny or minimize the harm of their wrongdoing, attack their victim’s credibility, and reverse the victim and offender roles to make themselves out to be the victim. More info here.
So lets break down that scene in 5x15 when Daisy confronts Fitz after violating her consent in 5x14..
You can read the rest here but basically Fitz does the following things:
1. Denies and minimizes the harm of his wrongdoing
2. Attacks Daisy’s credibility as a victim
3. And tries to make her out to be the one in the wrong, while he simply did “what he had to do”
Another post, this one by me, that goes more into why Fitz implying Daisy turned on them is ridiculous. here
B) "Didn't have a choice" those are Fitz's words. he "didn't have a choice except to do what he did" That's just plain wrong and untrue.
he could've talked to her. he could have asked her. He could have explained how dire the situation was. He could have at least TRIED instead of immediately resorting to traumatizing her and and forcing her powers on her without her consent.
posts that go more into this that i highly recommend people read:
here by @geraltcirilla and @ryder616
and here by me
It doesn't end there. Afterwards, Daisy (reasonably) locks him up. he's a danger to the team. He's a danger to himself. Who knew what he might do next "without meaning to", and despite having hurt her and traumatized her and almost gotten her and his other friends injured, he agrees that she's somehow a "hard*ss" for being upset. For locking him up after he committed multiple crimes that could've resulted in her paralyzed for life.
And the majority of the fandom agreed with that statement. saw so many fans say stuff like "Daisy was acting like such a b**ch this season!"
Fitz repeatedly being selfish and careless with people's lives.
there have been numerous instances in the show where Fitz makes a terrible decision (that he knows is terrible) that could result in others' deaths, and he goes through with them every time, and is mostly unapologetic.
1) possibly the biggest one. S7 finale. This man quite literally, plans on having 7 billion people die, uncaring, because "it was an alternate timeline" and therefore wouldn't be HIS timeline. Nevermind that it was HIM who brought that danger to this alternate timeline in the first place.
posts: here by me, @stilltryingtowrite and @samanthaswishes
2) him and Simmons both getting their team members (and Simmons herself) killed in s7 several times. They programmed Enoch to kill anyone who tried to remove a chip from Simmons, without informing anyone, and then they erased Simmons' memories, meaning she also didn't know about the 'program to kill'. Enoch too, didn't know. Daisy, Deke, and Simmons all died from that. If there hadn't been a time loop, they could've permanently been dead. The reason for the programming of the chip was so stupid and made no sense.
Most would disagree with me, but a while back I made a post about why every possible reasoning for the chip's existence was stupid. here it is.
3) voting to let Piper kill herself. This is a post i made before:
Remember that part in the 100th aos episode when they thought one member of the team needed to die to save the day, and they were all tripping over themselves to try to be the one that will be sacrificed so that the others didn’t have to, except for fitz who immediately was like “let piper kill herself. She feels guilty enough to accept her fate” and then he got married that same ep. that was messed up.
LITERALLY. Everyone was like "let me be the one to die, so no one else has to!" (with the exception of Deke, who also kind of sucks) but Fitz is just like "Let Piper do it!" who DOES that?
He’s just perfectly willing to volunteer someone else to die, that’s just unacceptable.
4) In order to save Simmons in s3, he has no regards to anyone else, and risks Daisy's life without her consent. She would've agreed regardless but he just jumped into the portal after KNOWING Daisy was feeling certain side effects from the portal and after she'd fainted and had a nose bleed. She could've died and there was no apology.
5) He helps Hydra open a portal to Hive. It results it countless inhumans dying, Lincoln dying, and even others dying, all because Fitz didn't want to lose Jemma. he aided a Nazi organization that was planning on bringing some sort of ancient monster from another planet. He knew this and still did what they asked.
6) He fixes the gravitonium machine for Ruby, knowing it was gravitonium that causes the entire WORLD to be destroyed. Again, just for Simmons. (so many times, he chooses one person's life, over the entire world.)
post by @samanthaswishes here
Fitz mistreating Simmons, and the Fitzsimmons relationship being misogynistic (imo)
So here’s me summarizing while also linking posts that go into more details about all the things wrong with he fs relationship (which contributes to me disliking his character)
blaming jemma for having the audacity to care for another man before they were even in a relationship: by me
general issues about simmons never getting to be her own character due to fitz and fs relationship: by anon
fitz getting angry at the idea of living with simmons: by me
the entirety of fitzsimmons being her acting like a mother/caretaker for him, instead of an actual partner: by me
fitz talking trash about simmons when she's not there
why fs relationship is bad, why it's unfair to simmons, and fitz' jealousy knowing no bounds: by me
Fitz being completely insensitive and ignorant to others' suffering.
there have been numerous instances in the show where he’s just...insensitive to others’ suffering.
1. (this one is understandable, but when you add it up with everything else, it shows a clear pattern) In s1, After Ward is revealed to be hydra, revealed to have killed several people (a man being questioned, Victoria Hand, two police officers, Keonig) and after he’d just KIDNAPPED Skye, threatened her, and locked her up, Fitz tells Skye, TO HER FACE, that he doesn’t buy it. That there is no way Ward could’ve done that. Despite Skye herself having just been kidnapped and traumatized and literally told by Ward himself.
It’s not until Ward hurts HIM specifically, that he actually believes it, and by then it’s too late.
It’s just really terrible, in my opinion, to look a victim of someone directly in the eye, and say you don’t believe it or that there must have been a mistake, etc...
2. Immediately after Simmons gets back from being kidnapped on an alien planet for 6 months, Fitz takes her to a fancy restaurant for a date, without telling her. She immediately starts crying for a variety of reasons and he comforts her (which is good), but the idea of taking her to a date right after she went through a horrible ordeal and when it’s still VERY fresh, and she’s still not sleeping well, and still coping with everything, is highly insensitive, and was clearly something to just make himself better rather than her.
Maybe he thought that would cheer her up? Except it was still insensitive on his part.
3. While I pointed this out in the fitzsimmons section, it bears repeating.
When Simmons is upset, because a man she admitted she loved was in literal danger on an alien planet, Fitz goes on about his suffering and “the universe splitting them apart” despite it being not the time nor place. He goes as far as to contemplate whether he should save an innocent man’s life or not. In that scene, you can see how exhausted and emotionally drained Jemma is, but he goes on and on, saying things that do nothing except make her feel guilty because...she dared have feelings for someone else? That entire scene was just him letting out all his frustrations and anger and hurt (which, understandable) on her, even though she was the one going through a rough time and his words only made her feel much worse and unfairly blame herself for things outside of her control. It’s as if he was using her as an emotional punching bag (that, is not as understandable).
Worse, s6 makes it clear he still held a grudge against her, even though she’s the one who suffered. She’s the one who lost someone she cared about. She’s the one who grieved. She’s the one who had to deal with that.
4. When Daisy leaves shield, after having been brainwashed, forced to hurt people she cares about, forced to go through withdrawal, forced to watch her boyfriend literally die for her (she’d spent months seeing his very last moments in her head so she even knew the exact second he died and how it happened), and after the government had decided people like her needed to be monitered and forced to sign accords that would take away some of her rights, Fitz makes it all about him.
She’s sitting in front of him, injured, and suicidal, and clearly not doing well, and all he can do is berate her, yell at her, accuse of her of “turning her back” and “not caring”.
He never apologizes. She’s literally yelled at, and treated like crap, while going through the worst period of her life and being in a terrible place, physically, emotionally, and mentally, and all he can do is think about himself and how he personally doesn’t like change. Talk about being a terrible friend.
Contrast that to her comforting him and standing by him at the end of s4, when he was freaking out about his actions in the framework, and... well... he was clearly being unfair to her.
5. This one, isn’t as big of a deal because it was just something that slipped out, but like... saying “maybe getting your arms chopped off wasn’t all bad” (or something very very similar) to Yoyo, literally a few days after her surgery and after she was mutilated is just...wrong.
It was clear he immediately recognized that he shouldn’t have said that, but holy crap, COME ON MAN!This is just moments after he was broken out of his cell (which he was placed in, for harming several other teammates.)
6. The way he treated Deke. Everyone else had clear reasons to distrust/dislike Deke at first. Fitz didn’t, yet even upon discovering Deke was HIS grandson, he tells Deke he wished someone else was his godson, and spends the rest of the season treating him like complete and utter garbage.
I mean, I have issues with Deke’s character, but what in the hell was Fitz’s problem?? It’s not like Fitz himself was better than Deke.
7. I’ve said before, but basically throwing the rest of the team in s7 to the wolves, and then having the audacity to go “you guys didn’t do things according to plan!” when they didn’t even know the plan. Also “no, we shouldn’t help save all of humanity in another timeline from a problem we personally brought to them and that would kill them, making their death and destruction on us, because then it would reduce our chances of success by a few percentages”
How is this guy even real???
So there you have it, this was very long, but these are the reasons (with examples) of why i dislike Fitz. This isn’t to make anyone agree, and I’’’ repeat what I said earlier: I have no problems at all with fans who like Fitz. I just personally don’t.

Pinellas Park, FL — VoicePlay live performances
In the middle of June 2016, the VoicePlay guys scooted down to the Tampa Bay area for a concert in between longer bookings and video shoots. With Layne on paternity leave, they once again called on Antonio Fernandez to come play and keep the beat.
.
This video is missing the very beginning of the song, but it's still a great way to kick off a VoicePlay live show.
Details:
title: Don't Stop Me Now
original performers: Queen
written by: Freddie Mercury
arranged by: VoicePlay
performance date: 18 June 2016
My favorite bits:
Antonio's solo percussion riff
dropping into the half-time groove
those lush rising harmonies on ♫ "any tiii-IIIME" ♫
creating extra crescendo through synchronized microphone movements
the crisp syncopation on the ♫ "no one can stop me" ♫ section
Trivia:
The guys had been performing and refining this song since the 4:2:Five era. The earliest video I've found is from a benefit concert at the University of Rochester in early 2009.
A softer version of the opening chords from this arrangement were the closing section of VoicePlay's Queen in 5 Minutes medley almost two and a half years later.
.
They're not quite a boy band, but VoicePlay definitely sounds good singing these classic pop songs.
Details:
title: boy band medley
original songs / performers: "ABC" by The Jackson 5; [0:44] "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles; [1:27] "My Girl" by The Temptations; [2:15] "Sherry" by The Four Seasons; [3:12] "YMCA" by The Village People; [3:48] "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" by New Kids on the Block; [4:09] "I Want It That Way" by Backstreet Boys; [4:48] "Bye Bye Bye" by *NSYNC; [5:20] "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction
written by: "ABC" by Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren, Alphonzo Mizell, & Deke Richards; "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by John Lennon & Paul McCartney; "My Girl" by Smokey Robinson & Ronald White; "Sherry" by Bob Gaudio; "YMCA" by Jacques Morali & Victor Willis; "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" by Maurice Starr; "I Want It That Way" by Andreas Carlsson & Max Martin; "Bye Bye Bye" by Kristian Lundin, Jake Schulze, & Andreas Carlsson; "What Makes You Beautiful" by Savan Kotecha, Rami Yacoub, & Carl Falk
arranged by: VoicePlay
performance date: 18 June 2016
My favorite bits:
the choreography getting progressively complex as they move through the eras (and adjusted so Antonio didn't have to learn everything the other guys had been doing for years)
Tony's fantastic belt in "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"
the little hip swings from the lefthand trio on ♫ "dance the night away" ♫
everybody leaving Geoff hanging on the "YMCA" chorus, and his petulent "I hate you guys."
the crunchy transition from "Right Stuff" to "Bye Bye Bye"
the era-appropriate reverb on the last few songs
that beefy growl at the start of "Bye Bye Bye"
Eli getting in on some percussion at the start of the last song
everyone hamming up their assigned roles
Antonio's added explosion sound effect 💥 instead of their usual party poppers
Trivia:
Having this medley in their repertoire may have given them an advantage when "Bye Bye Bye" was chosen as the battle song for their first episode of The Sing-Off.
Tony was, in fact, the first one from this configuration of VoicePlay to leave. Not to go solo, though. He wanted to be home with his family and focus on growing PattyCake.
The guys updated this medley and filmed a full music video for it as the result of a Patreon poll in 2019.

Touch Me (Til I Find Myself) ~ Chapter 5
Word Count: 4.3k
Masterlist // AO3
Kris felt strange. There was an unfamiliar pressure around her waist and her head seemed to be swinging from side to side. As she became lucid and the disorientation began to clear, she realised she was being carried over someone’s shoulder.
That someone stopped and leaned forward. Kris heard the tell-tale beep of the elevator control panel. She cracked an eyelid open to scout out the area.
They were alone in the dim corridor. Not letting her panic consume her, Kris tried to stay clear-headed. She considered her options, but there weren’t many. Either she fought the Kree holding her, causing enough noise to draw attention and more guards to her position or she pretended to be unconscious and see where he was taking her. The latter seemed tempting; she might find Daisy and Jemma if he took her to Kasius.
But May’s voice rang in her ears: “If they catch you …”
She had told May she wouldn’t be captured. She had to stand by that. But how was she supposed to fight this guy quietly?
An idea popped into her head. She grimaced, not liking it. But it seemed to be her only option as the elevator approached.
She concentrated hard. If she could cause the Kree enough pain, excruciating pain, it should be enough to knock him unconscious. She had done it before, to a Hydra agent in the Framework. Even though he wasn’t real, he was meant to mimic a real person, a real reaction to that level of pain.
But then again, the Kree weren’t human. They might deal with pain differently. So she would have to ramp up the pain even more, probably to a level that would kill a human. Hopefully, it would knock him out instantly, before he knew what was happening. Before he had the chance to call for back up.
She felt the power building inside her, leaving it until the last possible moment to send it surging through the Kree’s giant body.
He let out a strangled cry and his body collapsed on the ground with a heavy thud, taking her with him. Luckily, the sound was masked by the noise of the elevator doors opening.
Kris rushed into the lift and keyed in Level Twenty. She held her breath until the doors closed.
She felt nauseous. That amount of power … that amount of pain … She took a couple of deep breaths, trying not to throw up.
It wasn’t the effort that made her sick, not anymore. In the beginning, she used to feel light-headed after using too much of her power for too long. But she had gotten used to it, training her powers like any other muscle, as Jemma had put it. So, it wasn’t that she had overstretched the muscle, or incorrectly estimated her limits. No, she felt sick because she hated causing pain.
Yes, the Kree were bad and that guard probably deserved it. But it didn’t make her feel any better. Causing others to suffer made her feel like a bad person. It made her feel more like a weapon than a person. Most of all, it reminded her that she was dangerous.
She arrived on Level Twenty. Given Deke’s wound, Coulson probably would have taken him to the nearest available room.
Kris began searching. Like Level Ten, there were a number of humans milling about. Although, this level was significantly less busy. Perhaps Coulson would have taken Deke to a quieter section of the level then, to avoid drawing unwanted attention.
She made her way through the complex winding corridors until she found an empty one. There were metal grates at the top of each door, reminding her of curtain blinds. She peeked through each one, but only found empty rooms.
Then she spotted a door that had been welded shut. She would have dismissed it, but she heard someone moving about inside. She crept closer, praying it wasn’t another Kree.
She paused as she heard something metallic drop on the floor. This was followed by muffled cursing that sounded an awful lot like Deke. She looked through the grate and there he was, muttering agitatedly to himself and pacing.
“Deke,” she called out quietly. “Deke.”
He turned around, and saw her through the gaps. “Kris, thank god. Get me out of here, will ya?”
“Who locked you in? Was it the Kree? Where’s Coulson?”
“Coulson was the one who locked me in,” he admitted bitterly. “Had the big guy come weld the thing shut. Thought he sent you to let me out.”
“No, he didn’t.”
Kris considered leaving him in there. She knew Coulson. He wouldn’t just lock someone up without good reason. And selling a member of the team to an alien dictator was a pretty damn good reason.
Deke sighed and rubbed his hand over his face. “Look, I just want to help. Really I do. I – I have to go with you guys to the surface.”
“Why?”
Deke shifted about, looking uncomfortable before meeting her gaze. “You were right.” His voice was slightly strained. “I did recognise the voice on the recording. It’s my dad. Kasius sent him to the surface years ago. I thought he was dead, but now … Look, he and I didn’t exactly part ways on good terms. I want to fix that and now I have the chance. Please, Kris. Get me out of here. Let me come with you.”
His emotions were written all over his face, just like before. She searched his eyes, looking for any sign of dishonesty. But his plight was genuine.
She felt a surge of sympathy for him. If she had just found out her dad was alive, there would be nothing and no one in the world who could stop her from seeing him again.
“Alright,” she whispered. “I’ll see what I can do.”
~~~
Kris snuck back along the corridor, hiding a screwdriver underneath her jacket. She had tried kicking the door down but it was welded too strongly. She had asked Deke if he could escape through the vents, but they were too small.
Deke had suggested he break the window and use his Gravity Puck to float to another level. Kris had just sighed and listed the numerous reasons why that would be a bad idea: one, he didn’t have a helmet so he would suffocate in space; two, even with a helmet, he didn’t have a lot of other protection, like a spacesuit (Deke had argued that there was still enough atmosphere left to keep him alive for a short while but Kris had pointed out it wouldn’t be long enough to find a safe level); and three, the door didn’t have an airlock so the whole corridor, if not the whole level, would be sucked out into space with him. And that was just a few of the major problems. So, of course, Deke started sulking because she had called his idea dumb.
But it did give her another idea. Deke had passed her the Gravity Puck through the grates and she went to Level Seventeen – Engineering. Because it was a restricted floor, she had done what he did and used the Gravity Puck to access the level from below. It was, admittedly, rather fun. The feeling of being weightless, and floating around the elevator shaft was like nothing she had ever experienced before. She had smiled, thinking back to when she was a child dreaming of becoming an astronaut, and mentally ticked it off her bucket list.
Once on Level Seventeen, she had searched the floor for tools, avoiding the Kree patrols and called the elevator to bring her back down.
Now, she crouched by the door, unscrewing the hinges until they came loose. She could hear Deke pacing around inside. It was making her nervous but she tried to ignore it.
“So, why sell Daisy to Kasius? What does that achieve?” she asked. The question had plagued her for a while now, and she just needed to know.
“She was being stubborn,” Deke explained. “She wanted to get your friend out but I warned her that she would get caught. Kasius isn’t stupid, his levels have more guards than ours do. And when she got caught, Kasius wouldn’t just kill her. He would kill your friend too and have another Renewal. I mean, if he had three people killed because Simmons saved a life, can you imagine how many he would want dead if someone invaded his suites? Not just anyone, but an adult Inhuman, who he would assume has been hiding her powers from him. Trust me, he has quite the temper and you don’t want to be on the receiving end of it.”
“So, you were saving lives?” The doubt was evident in her voice. “That’s what you're going with?”
“It’s the truth.” She could practically hear him shrugging. She moved on to the next hinge.
“So, how exactly did you stop Kasius from killing Daisy?”
“I told him who she is. Planted the idea in his head that he could make a significant profit from selling the Destroyer of Worlds. And I made it clear she was acting alone, so he wouldn’t punish the rest of us. You know, the people who can’t time travel away from this mess.”
Kris thought that was actually a pretty well thought through plan. Not that she would admit it out loud. But Deke had lived here his whole life. He knew Kasius and the Kree. So, she decided to trust that his analysis of the consequences of Daisy’s capture was correct and he had taken the necessary steps to prevent them. She didn’t like his method, or agree with it, but it had had the intended result – Daisy was alive and there had been no Renewal.
She kept working away on the next hinge. Then Deke spoke up again.
“What did you do to him? The Kreeper?”
Kris froze. This conversation was always unpleasant. She took a deep breath before replying.
“I caused him pain.” She tried to sound nonchalant, but her voice was strained. “That’s the ability given to me after Terrigenesis.”
“That’s how you got away from the Kree when the others didn’t. That’s what Simmons meant when she said ‘it works on non-humans’.”
“Yep. My powers are always surprising us.” She tried to keep the bitterness out of her voice, but failed.
“What do you mean by that?” He sounded … curious. Not afraid or disgusted. Just interested. Most people looked at her differently after Terrigenesis. Unstable, dangerous, freak, monster – she had been called all these things. And yet Deke, like Fitzsimmons, wasn’t afraid of her; he just wanted to know more.
She hesitated about telling him; she still didn’t trust him. But he had just opened up to her about his father. And he was only asking about her powers, she didn’t need to get too personal.
“Well, my powers changed significantly recently. Right after Terrigenesis, I could only increase existing pain. Anything from a fresh cut to an old injury. Back problems, dodgy knees, pulled muscles … heart problems.” She paused. “All I did was make things worse. And it was purely touch-based so I couldn’t make physical contact with anyone. Fitz and Jemma tried to help. They ran tests and had me practice using my abilities. They hoped the touch aspect would go away with time, that I would be able to control my powers. But instead, the more I practised, the stronger my powers became. Suddenly, I wasn’t just increasing pain, I was creating it. People who were perfectly healthy and had no pain previously, were in agony once they made even the slightest contact with me.”
“I’m sorry. That must have been awful.” Deke was genuinely apologetic.
“It is what it is.” She shrugged, trying to distract herself with the next hinge.
“So, what about now? That guard was still in pain when he let go of you. And the others have been able to touch you.”
“Yeah, that’s the most recent change. I still don’t fully understand how it happened. Not even sure if it’s permanent, yet. Just have to wait and see.”
“How long have they been like this?”
“A couple of days,” she admitted. “So, still very much trial and error.”
“That’s why you keep flinching.”
Kris didn’t respond to that. She didn’t need to – her silence spoke for itself.
She removed the last hinge and dropped the screwdriver.
“Okay. Can you push the door open from your side?” she asked, relieved to be able to move on from that conversation.
Deke shoved the door, the metal scraping along the ground. But it didn’t move very far.
“Ugh, this was a stupid idea,” Deke grumbled.
“Well, it’s still better than …” Kris trailed off, an idea forming in her mind. “So, this Gravity Puck works on all things, not just people, right?”
“Of course.”
“So, if I attach it to the door … will it become light enough to push?”
“It’ll become lighter, sure. But that’s not the problem. It’s the welding keeping the door shut. No hinges means the door doesn’t swing open.” Deke sighed. “But, why not? It’s worth a shot.”
Kris took the Puck off her belt and stuck it to the door. She turned it on, then reached through the small gap between the door and the wall, and pulled as hard as she could. Deke was right; the door was lighter but it still wouldn’t budge.
She tugged it again and, suddenly, it gave. Kris stumbled back and Deke slipped through into the corridor.
“Alright. Go team,” Kris commented flatly.
Deke took the belt buckle off the door and it groaned as it settled back into place.
“Right, we should go find Coulson,” Kris continued as they left the room behind. “May’s in trouble now too. No point in going to the surface if most of our team are missing.”
“Yeah, what happened after we left? Why isn’t she with you?”
“I got knocked out. Obviously, we were separated after the fight. That woman probably has May.”
“Woman?” Deke stopped.
“Kree woman. She had some flying metal spheres. I saw her approaching May but I blacked out before – what’s that look for?”
Deke was staring at her, wide-eyed, pure terror written across his face.
“Sinara,” he whispered, as if he was afraid of even saying her name. “You fought Sinara. And you escaped.”
“Let me guess, that’s a bad thing?” Kris sighed, knowing she wasn’t going to like whatever he said next.
“Very bad. She’s Kasius’ right hand. Not to mention a brutal assassin. You escaped … now every Kreeper in the Lighthouse is going to be looking for you. We have to get you out of sight.”
He grabbed her arm, tugging her quickly to the elevator. She pulled her arm from his grasp and he shot her an apologetic look.
“So, any floors without Kree roaming the halls?” she asked.
“Apart from Levels One, Two, and Three, which are infested with Roaches – no.”
“Okay, so how about a very populated level? Blend in with the crowd until we find somewhere out of the way so I can hide? Unfortunately, it puts people in danger but –”
“It’s the best option we’ve got,” Deke finished her sentence.
~~~
After a tense elevator ride, they made it to the Exchange. Kris kept an eye out for Coulson and the others but she couldn’t see them.
A pair of Kree entered the Exchange. Instantly, Kris pulled her hood up and turned to face a table behind her. Deke subtly moved in front of her, shielding her from view.
But the Kree didn’t seem to be here for her. She watched their reflections in the dirty window as they walked to a raised platform. One of the Kree was wearing fancy robes and carrying a box, while the other was leading a teenager through the crowd. They stood silently as a human started fixing a clear cylinder to the top of a pole on the platform.
“Shit,” Deke swore under his breath. “We have to leave. Now.”
“What’s going on?” Kris whispered as they walked swiftly down the corridor.
“The Kree are rounding up kids for what they call The Harvest. They do it every year, putting all the eighteen year olds through Terrigenesis. But they shouldn’t be … they’ve already done it this year, meaning they’re looking for more Inhumans for Kasius’ auction. Which means you can’t be here.”
“So where the hell are we supposed to go now?” Kris glanced over her shoulder to make sure their quick departure hadn’t aroused any suspicion.
Deke paused, looking around. Everyone was gathering at the Exchange to see what was happening. Then he tilted his head, indicating that they should go the opposite direction.
“Come on.”
She followed him closely, winding through the crowds of people. Kris kept her head down, her hair obscuring her face. Her heart pounded against her ribs, echoing in her ears. It was a wonder no one else heard it.
Eventually the crowds thinned out, until they were only passing people every couple of minutes.
Kris leaned forward, still speaking in a hushed voice. “So, where exactly are we going?”
“My bunk. It’s out of the way, far from the busier areas of the level. You’ll be safe there until I can find your friends.” They rounded a corner. “We’re not far now.”
“Just don’t lock me in,” Kris joked, trying to alleviate the tension.
Deke grinned at her over his shoulder. It wasn’t sarcastic or smug or arrogant. It was genuine amusement. And it looked good on him.
Without warning, two Kree guards appeared from around the corner ahead of them. Thinking quickly, Deke grabbed Kris’ hand and pulled her into a small cavity in the wall. The two of them barely fit, their bodies pressed against each other. Deke was trying to give her space, but there really wasn’t much room to move.
They had moved fast, but were they fast enough? If the Kree had spotted them diving out of sight, they might investigate. Kris prayed they hadn’t seen them, prayed that they would move on.
She kept her eyes fixed on the corridor until the Kree came into view.
She turned her head away, waiting with bated breath.
The heavy footsteps continued, never faltering for a moment. She slowly turned her head to look over her shoulder, daring to lean out of the cavity slightly to watch them walk away.
Once they disappeared into the next corridor, she breathed a sigh of relief. She turned back, coming face to face with Deke, who was staring at her. He was wearing the same slightly dazed expression he had after she took down the Kree in the lab.
That was when she truly realised how close they were. Deke’s body was warm, contrasting the cold wall against her back. She could feel him breathing, his chest brushing against hers with each breath. Their faces were inches apart, and for the first time, Kris noticed that he was actually quite attractive. What stood out to her the most were his eyes, which were a very pretty shade of grey-green.
Kris knew she was staring. Normally, she would look away, embarrassed to be caught. But he was staring at her too, so she didn’t care. His gaze darted between her eyes and her lips.
He was still holding her hand, his thumb absently brushing over her knuckles. The gentle caress sent a tingling feeling dancing across her skin. And in that moment, it finally hit her – she could actually touch people again. It had been almost two years since she had last touched someone. Almost two years with no hugs or high-fives from her friends, no romantic intimacy with her partners, not so much as a peck on the cheek or holding hands.
But Deke was holding her hand. And she wasn’t hurting him. It almost made her tear up as she realised just how much she missed it.
She wanted more. She needed more.
Kris surged forward, grabbing the front of his jacket and dragging his lips down to meet hers. He froze for a brief moment, stunned, but recovered quickly and kissed her back. His free hand came up to cup her cheek, his fingertips gently tilting her jaw up.
Her heart raced, but not from anxiety this time. This was like nothing she had ever felt before. The kiss was clumsy, but it was exhilarating to finally be able to do this again after so long. The thrill of kissing someone for the first time, combined with the relief that they weren’t in pain, was a heady feeling. It made her feel normal again. She couldn’t get enough of it.
Kris deepened the kiss. It was passionate and fervent, not because she had feelings for him (or because he had any for her) but because she had wanted this for so long. And now she could have it.
Deke let go of her hand, instead grabbing her hip and pulling her closer. Kris’ hands travelled up his chest, over his shoulders and came to rest at the base of his neck. Her fingers tangled in his hair, tugging slightly. He groaned quietly and pressed her firmly against the wall.
She had missed this. God, she had missed this. Being this close to another person, feeling their hands on her body, tasting their lips on hers, inhaling their scent, hearing the way they tried to catch their breath. It was intoxicating. And she didn’t want it to end.
Then Deke pulled away, breathing heavily. “What are you – what are we doing?” he mumbled against her lips.
The lose of contact made her feel empty, her desire for more still unfulfilled. It was selfish, she knew it was. But she wasn’t sure how long this would last. Her powers, although changed, could revert back to their previous state at any moment. She had to take this opportunity while she had it. Otherwise, she would regret it for the rest of her life.
“Who cares? Just shut up and kiss me,” she mumbled, already leaning in again.
And he did. She expected him to argue or protest or demand an answer to his question. But that never came. He wordlessly complied with her request, pressing his lips to hers again.
~~~
Kris picked her shirt off the floor of Deke’s bunk and put it back on. Deke was doing the same thing, collecting his clothes from where they had been strewn around the room. Kris caught sight of a grimy mirror in the corner and went over to check her appearance. Her hair was a mess so she brushed her fingers through it, trying to make it look presentable.
“God, only two days here and I’m already filthy,” she commented. Her blonde hair was dirty and her face was smudged with dust. Not to mention there was a dark bruise forming where the side of her head had hit the floor. “When I get home, I’m going to have a nice warm shower.”
Deke laughed. She turned to face him, wondering what was so funny. He still hadn't found his shirt and Kris had to force herself not to stare at his bare chest. When Deke realised she was serious, he seemed surprised.
“Wait, you guys actually have warm showers? I always thought that was a myth.”
“Warm showers are definitely real. I’m guessing you don’t have those here.” He shook his head and she sighed. “The more I learn about this place, the worse it gets.”
They fell silent again until another thought crossed Kris’ mind.
“Hey, I’d … uh … I’d really appreciate it if you didn’t mention this,” she gestured between them, “to the team. It’s, you know, it’s not a good look for a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent to get, um, distracted on a mission. Our team needs to be united, now more than ever, and if they knew … well, I don’t want them to think I’m a liability, you know?”
“Oh, yeah sure. No problem,” he assured her. Then he grinned, that same amused grin. “Besides I don’t want anyone knowing about this either. You’re a wanted person. Very dangerous. I don’t want people associating me with you,” he joked.
She chuckled but their conversation was cut short by someone passing by the door.
“Where could he have gone? If he’s not found soon, the Blues will take it out on us.” The voice was hushed, but frantic.
“This is Flint we’re talking about. He knows all the best spots to hide.”
“But how did he escape? Inhuman or not, that’s near impossible.”
The voices faded away as they went further down the corridor. Kris and Deke exchanged worried glances. Flint must have been one of the kids put through Terrigenesis. God only knows what happened to him. Kris’ own memories of Terrigenesis resurfaced. It wasn’t pleasant. They had to find him.
After getting dressed (and having a short argument about whether or not Kris should stay in the bunk), they went to the Exchange together. On the way, Deke, having taken his helmet from his bunk in case he needed to disguise himself, grabbed a scarf so Kris could do the same. She wrapped it round her neck and positioned it to cover the lower half of her face. She also pulled her hood up, tucking her hair inside.
As soon as they entered the Exchange, they were met with a gruesome sight.
Tess was hanging in mid-air, her head lolling to the side, and her body limp. Lifeless. There was a Kree knife in her stomach with a blood-stained sign attached: BRING THE INHUMAN.
Kris gasped and turned away, covering her mouth. Deke just stared silently, almost resigned.
“Deke … I am so sorry.” She knew it sounded lame but she didn’t know what else to say.
He didn’t react, standing like a statue. Then, all of a sudden, it was like he came to life again. He shrugged, brushing off her condolences.
“Whatever. Let’s just find Coulson and the others.” His voice was devoid of emotion.
He turned on his heel and walked away rapidly, not looking back.
Now who’s deflecting, Kris thought to herself.
That is a lot of ... Milk? vitamins? Drugs? Whatever it is there's a lot of it
That's very empty, kinda suspicious
Oh there's a reason it's suspicious they're doing some probably illegal stuff got it
OH WAIT THEY DID THAT TO THE TEAM ARE THEY THE GUYS???
Fair enough, it's extremely boring, sports
OH THOSE ARE THE GUYS NOTED
Coulson, Mack, May, Simmons ... Alright who else was there? Daisy, Fitz and Yo-Yo, am I missing anybody? Got to check for those until I'm told who was left behind
OH NOT ANOTHER PORTAL
Why on earth would the portal lead there?
Kill that thing? WHAT THING? WHY IS IT TRYING TO KILL YOU?
Those are all questions I would love to know the answers to
Zero.
"Roaches" is certainly easier to remember than the thing beginning with V you just said.
HI MACK :D
Well you can scratch that one off the bucket list!
Okay, Yo-Yo's there too. Just Daisy and Fitz left to see. Unless I've forgotten someone. Or it's just the waitress.
"Outer" is very precise, thanks for that Coulson
Now who would that happen to be?
Do they perhaps take off that mask?
OH GOD WE GOT A SPACY THEME MUSIC AND A NEW LOGO GUYS SHIT IS REAL
Yes May I agree, wasn't fun enough. Needs more fun.
Coulson you're better than Inspector Gadget! EXCEPT ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR COOL HAND
Mack is just done with the bullshit
There's SWORD, but they're not on the moon
Fair point Mack, that's a very fair point! You don't half hit people!
But if you were a fireman then I never would have been able to see you in this TV show that I am a healthy amount obsessed with!
Yeah weird random stranger, don't call her Yo-Yo
FITZ DIDN'T MAKE IT OKAY NOW WHERE IS DAISY?
Been there done that, probably do it again
It's went from "has nobody seen a robot movie" to "has nobody seen an alien movie"
Honestly you just look like some dysfunctional congo line Coulson, hate to break it to you
Ah so they're called a Metric? What's a Metric?
OH HIYA FELLAS ...
How about you don't experiment huh
I don't think they'll beg for their lives. Depends on what you do, but if it's bad they'll beg for the other's life
So then what do you want to hear? Spanish? Mack's giving you Spanish.
May :)
Fr fr best buddy right there
Goddammit we don't trust Virgil guys!
Gallery? You're inviting the Kree to look at paintings?
Aw, he called her Mi amor <3
I don't think that's good thinking honestly I think you should just let them live their lives
Because they seem to be weirdly obsessed with them.
YES DAISY! GREAT JOB GANG!
Well it's lucky you kept that Simmons!
You seem to have words though, Simmons
Wing nut? That's an insult
Coulson's probably wishing he was high right now and that this is some sort of drug-induced fever dream
You'd look great with two hooks, Yo-Yo. But it's good you don't have them.
... is pie not a thing here?
Yeah last time I checked earth was fairly not falling apart (I mean it is on the inside but not like that)
Oh god that must be so sad for Fitz
CASPIAN BENGAL + FORGIVING SHIVA.
GENERAL. while Caspian now has a very good relationship with the gods –– he used to hate them. I mean… hate. When you’re a boy who’s told you are unloved by the Gods, you try to win their affections. You pray, you offer blessings, you beg. And when the Gods do not give you what you ask for –– you get angry. The gods abandoned him so he decided to abandon them too.
When he was shot, and left bleeding, Caspian was ready to die. He knew he would and he eventually stopped fighting. Shiva –– the god of destruction –– came to him and told him ‘your suffering is not over yet. you must fight more’. Caspian denied these words, and Shiva refused to let him die. Caspian for many years, was not thankful to this. Shiva was the god he hated the most. Shiva had left him on this earth to suffer when the promise of reincarnation was a sweet fruit against his lips he could almost taste. Shiva had pushed him back into a life of pain. How could he ever love a God for that?
But then just a year later he meets his fathers. Deke is an atheist, Mavahir is a devout Hindu. He learns from them. Two years after that he is adopted, and brought into a how where the duality of believe in no God and believing in all Gods is laid in front of him to digest. For awhile he remains a boy who believes the gods are real, but will never worship them.
And then through the practice of mediation with his father (suggested to him to help his PTSD and anxiety) he meets more Gods. Vishnu. Ganesh. Durga. Kali. Krishna. They welcome him. He cries. But he is not ready to forgive.
When he is 18, his fathers and him get into a fight. Caspian had been suspended from school again for fighting. In his anger and frustration, he stormed out of the house and ran into the streets. His fathers followed him for a bit before deciding to let him go. He would come back.
Caspian ran to the temple his father visits once a month. He runs to the back of the temple where the large statue of Shiva stands. He bows to him. He places his hand on Shiva’s forehead –– like Shiva had when he had saved him at the age of 11 –– and through tears he chokes out a single phrase.
❝ Thank you. ❞
This is the turning point for Caspian. He not only forgave Shiva, but thanked him for keeping him alive. For forcing him to live a pained life so that he may one day have a life filled with love from both of his parents. He spends the next 30 minutes in the temple, praying, singing. And after applying some tilak to his forehead and taking some Prasad he leaves. He comes home, and embraces his fathers so tightly. He thanks them as well.
This is when Caspian begins to truly reclaim his religion.
Better Than Him
Bakugo Katsuki x M!Reader
Requested? Yes.
Word Count: 2914
When you first started UA, you didn’t have many friends. None of your friends from middle school had gotten accepted into the school, and none of them stuck around either. You didn’t have much of an need to go out of your way to make them, but you didn’t made making some if people approached you. That’s how this all began, because Mina Ashido decided that the handsome pretty boy of the class should be her friend.
Mina was always took her time to go out of her way with you. Partnering up for classwork? She went with you. Needed a partner for hero work? Right by your side.
She was a great friend, and she grew on you. It was just the two of you for a bit in the beginning of the year, that was until the Sports Festival happened. Both of you ended up bonding with Sero, Kirishima, Kaminari, and the infamous Bakugo Katsuki.
Unlike your classmates, you didn’t have a problem with Bakugo’s constant rage and raised voice. You knew he wasn’t a bad guy, just someone who needed to prove himself. You didn’t believe it clicked within your classmates, but you didn’t feel like defending someone who didn’t need it. Besides, if you did, you thought you’d only offend him in the end.
Overtime, you all became close friends. Your relationship with Mina grew and stabilized into best friends while your relationships with the others continues to grow.
“Yo, [Name].” You heard Kirishima call out, his desk behind yours. Still, he felt the need to stand next to your deck.
“Yeah?” You questioned.
“You got plans for the weekend? All of us are gonna go hang at Bakugo’s place.” Kirishima explained. For the first time in a while, you were surprised. It wasn’t like Bakugo to let people into his house, especially not his friends that he tries to deny he has.
“Really? And Bakugo is all cool with it?” You questioned, leaning your head forward to get a look at the blond at his desk.
“Don’t look at me! All these idiots invited themselves!” Bakugo yelled, his eyes locked onto yours.
For some reason, you believed him.
“C’mon!” You heard Mina’s voice. When you turned your head to the other side of your desk, she was there. Her palms planted on your desktop. “It’s not like you got anything better to do, right?”
“Woah, you think highly of yourself that you think you’re my only friend.” You teased, watching as she began to pout like a child.
“C’mon, man! Don’t be scared of Bakugo, it won’t be the same without you!” Kaminari suddenly butted in, his arm wrapping around your shoulders.
“What the hell makes you think I’m scared of him?” You growled. Seriously, out of all of them, you were the least scared of the guy.
“Cause you don’t come! Unless, you got something else to do?” Kaminari questioned, a coy grin coming to his features. “Maybe, a date?”
“Oh, my god! Really? Since when?” Mina shouted, her excitement growing.
You sighed, seriously, sometimes you think these guys have nothing else to do but bother you. You weren’t complaining necessarily, but you know that for some reason beyond you, that you complete their group. Maybe it was cause you could run your mouth to Bakugo without flinching, or perhaps you were just you and they loved that about you.
“It’s not a date.” You hummed out. Your hand coming up to remove Kaminari’s arm from your body. “I just already made plans with Midoriya. Sorry.”
You didn’t think they’d make a big deal out of it, especially since most were on good terms with the green haired fool that always seems to break his bones any chance he gets. Then again, you forgot that one person isn’t his biggest fan.
“Uh? Deku? Why the hell are you wasting your time with that nerd?” Bakugo suddenly called out, all eyes now on the group. Especially Bakugo and you.
When you looked at him, it was like a war was on the brink of starting. It wand uncommon for the both of you to argue here and there, so no one was worried necessarily, but something in your gaze made his blood run cold. He really didn’t take a liking to the way you looked at him, but instead of taking into account why, he just blamed it on your quirk.
The quirk you had was tricky in more ways than one. It distorted your personality at times, and the abilities that came along with one single quirk had some people jealous, envious of you. Maybe that’s what Bakugo liked about you, he knew that people were jealous of his stupidly-awesome quirk just like they were of yours. You had a commonality, and that made him see you as an equal. Though, as he got to know you, that quickly turned into respect.
“What? Jealous I’m hanging with him instead of you?” You asked in a snarky tone that made Bakugo almost pop a vein.
“Why the hell would I be jealous of that loser?” He yelled, his hand slamming down hard on his desk. Some of his classmates flinched at the noise, but you remained perfectly still. Continuing to give him that annoying look that he wanted to just wipe off your face.
“Don’t know,” you hummed. Your eyes still not removing themselves from Bakugo’s orbs. It was odd to you how this guy chooses to act this way in school but when he’s just hanging out with you, he’s the chillest guy you’d ever met. Though, that was only if it was just you and him. “But, I’ll be free another day. So don’t go missing me too much.”
“Like I’d ever miss you, idiot!” He screamed out once more in retaliation.
You just smiled to yourself before class shortly after started. You wish you could go, but you’re a man of your word and promised Midoriya you’d help him out. Besides, if you weren’t loyal, what else did you have left? Your quirk made it quite difficult to be anything else.
When that weekend passed, Bakugo tried to ask you to hang out with him. There was a carnival in town and he didn’t want to go with the others unless you were there. Sadly, you had to decline again.
“Sorry, Bakugo, I already made plans with Midoriya.” You told him with an apologetic smile. “Maybe next week.”
He did try again next week. It wasn’t like he wanted to, in fact, he felt pathetic doing this for weeks on end and you always rejecting him. It was just easier to deal with the chaotic antics of the others with you around. It wasn’t like he enjoyed you being around, no, not at all.
It didn’t help when everyone else started to talk about you while they all hanged out.
“Man!” Kaminari whined. “When is [Name] gonna come back and hang with us?”
“Not sure, but he’s been hanging around Midoriya a lot more lately.” Mina expressed, her eyes wondering up at the clear sky as they all walked around the park.
“Yeah, now that you mention it, those two have been getting really close, right?” Kirishima questioned. “I mean, he never really talked to him until recently. Makes ya wonder what they’re doing.”
It would be a lie to say that didn’t irk Bakugo. Did you think Deke was better than him? That couldn’t possibly be it, right? After all, he was better. He was your friend first before Deku, so why did you prefer that guy over him?
“I don’t know about [Name] but did you hear about Midoriya?” Sero suddenly asked.
Bakugo made up this mask that he wasn’t interested in this conversation whatever, but when he heard that, his ears perked up. He was never one for gossip, hell, he hated it. But for some reason when it came to you, it felt like he needed to know. Especially if Deku had a part in it.
“No, what happened?” Kaminari questioned, the others on edge.
“I overheard Uraraka talk with Iida about how Midoriya was suddenly acting weird whenever [Name] was around.” Sero started out saying. All of them at the edge of their seats, begging him to just spit it out already. “When Uraraka confronted him, Midoriya said that he was starting to like him! Can you believe that?”
“Seriously?” Mina suddenly shouted with a wide smile and somewhat flushed cheeks.
While everyone stood with shocked expressions across their features, they all asked the same questions. Did you like him as well? Is that why you wouldn’t hang with them?
Though, for Bakugo, it was a little difficult. Unlike everyone else he felt something he hasn’t in a while. He knew he had a short fuse and could be angered easily, but when he heard that it was like something twisted in his chest. It was painful, and made questions run about his mind.
The thing was, Bakugo wasn’t dumb. He cursed himself out in his mind. It wasn’t ‘hero’ behavior, he felt like a loser. He hated that. It was such a petty emotion that ran through his veins. Pure, petty jealousy.
It wasn’t until a few days later that Bakugo saw you. It was in the morning, just before class started up. Everyone was chatting with friends before they had to deal with a grumpy Aizawa in the morning.
When Bakugo walked in, his sight immediately locked onto you. You were in his seat, your body turned to face Midoriya who sat behind the spiky haired blond. You had your elbow on Midoriya’s desk, your head rested in the palm of your hand with a bright smile on your features. It was like when you smiled, in Bakugo’s eyes, you glowed. It was odd to him the first couple of times, but he started to enjoy it. It was like his own secret that no one had the privilege of seeing besides him.
“So, [Name], um,” Midoriya started to mumbled, his fingers now fidging each other. His gaze towards his desk, dancing around as he spoke but not meeting yours for a second.
“What’s up?” You questioned, wondering what he was so worried for.
“I was, uh, wonder if maybe I could draw you?” He asked in a shy tone. Though, once his eyes met yours he immediately shot his hands up and shook them before blurting out, “I mean, only if you want to!”
You stared at him for a moment. It was odd to you how this was the most difficult thing for him to ask when he’s asked you so much things over the past couple of weeks. “Sure, I don’t mind. But, make sure you get my good side.”
Midoriya chuckled. “I’ll try.”
You nodded with a smile, trying out some poses before your eyes got drawn towards the window. Rain was falling and it never ceased to capture your attention in an instant. Though, today your little show would be interrupted.
As you watched some teachers and students scramble into the school from below, your attention was quickly drawn to whoever nudged you in the back of the head. You knew there wasn’t any malice behind it, but instead just to grab your attention.
When you turned your head your eyes went up to Bakugo’s face. It was calm, and something about it was peaceful to you. His red hues were shining with something you didn’t recognize, but, for some reason, you were just happy to have it directed onto you.
“Good morning, Bakugo.” You said with a soft smile. “How was your weekend?”
“It was whatever.” Bakugo hummed. His eyes never moving anywhere else besides you. “Spiky thought it would be a fun idea to do a picnic.”
“Oh, that sounds fun. Wish I could’ve been there,” you hummed in a sweet tone. Although, before Bakugo had time to respond to your words, you let an soft hum leave your throat before saying, “By the way, I’ll be free today if you wanna hang out and catch up.”
For the first time, Bakugo’s gaze shifted to Midoriya. His calm eyes grew irritated, narrowing on the green haired teen.
You heard Midoriya yelp suddenly, but you didn’t find that any different from any other day before. When Bakugo turned back to you though he said, “Whatever, idiot. Just don’t make a mess while you’re over my house.”
You smiled, your legs bending straight as you stood from his desk. You were a few inches from him when you did, neither of you looking to back up. It was then that your innocent smile turned into a sly grin before brushing your shoulder with Bakugo as you moved back to your seat, completely missing the soft red that popped up on the tips of his ears.
After school Bakugo and you headed out without a word to your other classmates or friends. You made conversation here and there about whatever you could think about, just basically throwing your thoughts at him. It wasn’t until you both came out of the heated building and feel a chill run up your spine. It was days like these were you wish you had some fire or some kind of heat quirk like Bakugo and Todoroki have.
“Shit, it’s freezing.” You grumbled as you hugged yourself from warmth, your teeth beginning to chatter. While it was cold, you did enjoy Bakugo’s heat that helped you at least tolerate this bullshit. Though, when he suddenly stopped as you continued to walk, it didn’t take long for you to notice.
When you turned you noticed him digging around in his bag. You leaned your head to the side, confused on what he was doing. You took a step forward, your lips parting as you were about to let words slip past them. Before you had the chance though, you felt something warm wrap around you.
“Don’t freeze to death, idiot.” Bakugo said before continuing to walk.
Your eyes quickly shot down to see a scarf loosely wrapped around your neck. The gesture itself shouldn’t be anything to gush over, it was a kind thing that anyone would do. Though, for some reason, when Bakugo did it it felt like your entire body was now suddenly warm.
When both of you arrived at Bakugo’s place since it was closer to the school than yours, you noticed his parents weren’t home. It didn’t bother you since this wasn’t the first time you’ve been over without them around. But you did find it odd that Bakugo just dropped his thinks and started to travel to his room. Normally you both would grab some drinks and snacks to chill with while you hanged out, but that didn’t happen. You decided not to question him and just followed behind him silently.
You believed nothing was wrong, but when you saw him sitting at the edge of his bed with his head down, you knew you were wrong.
You sighed, leaning against the door frame you asked, “Alright, what’s wrong with you?”
Bakugo’s eyes locked on you. It would have scared you, but it wasn’t the first time he looked at you like that.
“Do you like Deku more than me or something?” He suddenly questioned, his voice prickled with thorns. One wrong move, and you knew you wouldn’t recover.
You leaned your head. “Bakugo, really?”
“Do I look like I’m joking to you, idiot?”
No, he didn’t, but you wish he was. It wasn’t like you were keeping a secret from him, but it was a pain in the ass to explain.
You sighed, your hands dug in your pockets before walking up next to Bakugo. You took a second before sitting down next to him, making sure he wouldn’t deny you. The moment you sat down you said, “Midoriya is cool and all, but just because I’ve been hanging out with him doesn’t mean that I think he’s cooler than you or something.”
Bakugo raised his head an inch. Side-eyeing you he growled, “Then why the hell are you blowing me off, huh? If you wanna hang out with that nerd so bad than just do it!”
You didn’t make any moves, nor did you try and make any snarky comments. It was hard to hold in instinct, but for him you could do it.
“I wasn’t trying to blow you off, okay?” You hummed out in the kindest voice you could muster up. “Midoriya asked me if it would be okay to get some information about my quirk for this hero journal he’s been keeping. I said yes, and it just happened to take longer than I thought.”
The blond next to you went quiet, you knew he probably felt silly or like a ‘loser’ but you didn’t think that about him at all. Not in the slightest.
With a single motion, your shoulder moved over to Bakugos’. You didn’t move, nor try to. Instead, you took in a pleasant breath of air as you relaxed into him. It’s been weeks since you could last do this, and you missed it. He would never allow you to in public or with your other friends, which, you understood and respected. So, it was really--really--nice now that you could.
“Yanno, you didn’t have to get jealous, Suki.” You cooed out.
You thought he would flip out on you. He really did hate when you called him that in private, but today, he didn’t. When you felt him move, it wasn’t like you remembered before he flips out. So, you moved your head an inch to see what he had done. A large smile growing on your lips when you noticed his head turned away from you, unable to see his face. But, you did hear him when he said, “Shut up, idiot.”
Agents of SHIELD and The 100 both ended this year, with 7 seasons.
In the 7th season of The 100:
a lot of fans couldnt wait for it to be over to be freed from the 100 hell
nothing made sense. literally none of it. what even was the point?
the last war they were hyping up for the entire season lasted approximately 2 minutes long
kept the same villain from the previous season (even though they changed the actor) and for some reason refused to kill him until the very end? it was almost comical how many times he ALMOST died
the characters were miserable the entire time and the actors just seem completely checked out. not really their fault because...
terrible writing. its like they had no idea how to write for their own characters, or were just high the whole time. probably both.
wasted an entire episode on a backdoor pilot that most people wont even watch if it gets picked up. even brought the main character from the pilot on in the series finale just to really try to get people to watch it
two characters who had no scenes prior and no chemistry (hope and jordan) got randomly put together in like two episodes bc why tf not
one of the main leads (bob morley), a fan favorite who was around since the pilot, was unavailable for a huge chunk of the season. when he finally came back, he was written wildly out of character and joined a cult, was killed off before the end of the season by the other main lead, for a book she didnt even take (yes, this was exactly as stupid as it sounds). so he basically died for nothing. so did other fan favorite gabriel. fun times.
oh bellamy also died thinking everyone he loved hated him and never got to have a legit reunion with his sister, although his relationship with her was one of the main storylines from the very beginning of the show. but who cares about sibling relationships amirite?
most of them kinda get to be happy in the end though so...i guess thats a plus? they’re together at least, i guess? they’re out of their misery and so are we now that this show is finally over
In the 7th season of AoS:
universally looked at as a great season by fans and critics who were all legitimately sad it was ending
storylines actually got wrapped up
they introduced time travel in a way that was fun and fresh, and made sense to the story
relevance in their stories to things currently going on in the world, even though they filmed it over a year ago
again, it was FUN. the characters went through hell but they were also allowed to have fun. you could tell the actors had a blast filming it. this transferred to screen- the acting was top notch by everyone the whole way through
a ton of throwbacks to previous storylines
brought back past characters, even a pretty popular one from another mcu show who got royally screwed over by the movies
a love interest (the aforementioned daniel sousa) got introduced for one of the main characters (daisy) in a way that was organic and made sense for both characters
one of the main leads (iain de caestecker), a fan favorite who was around since the pilot, was unavailable for almost the entire season. the writers used his absence as a legit plot point, and he returned at the end to be reunited with his love (for a happy ending with a kid!) and the rest of the team
a pretty well loved recurring guest star who was around for a couple of seasons died, but it was handled in such a beautiful way- his death had actual meaning (enoch sacrificed himself to save the team), and he got a wonderful sendoff (the actor even won TVLine’s Performer of the Week that week)
every series regular of season 7 made it to the finale (sure, deke didn’t make it to the VERY end but he got to be a hero and freakin director of shield in an alternate timeline! pretty great end to me!)
the creators wanted it to be a love letter to the fans. the best way they could do that? every series regular ended the show happy. every. single. one.
coming in hot with more miscellaneous questions and the comment that i ALSO love scratch and sniff. what an episode. anyway - what is your opinion on Very Controversial Episode jeremiah crichton? which non-johnaeryn romance do you like the best? favourite serious headcanon? favourite silly headcanon? opinion on maldis? favourite quote from each season? opinion on how scorpius changes in season 4?
THANK YOU SWEET ANON I HAVE SO MUCH FUN DOING THESE!!!!! <33333333
What’s your take on Jeremiah Crichton? - I don’t hate it. I think a lot of my tolerance for it over the years stems from a fond remembrance of the commentary though, which I think really builds on the experience when you’re watching it. Like I’m pretty sure they point out either a road or a car or a parking lot or a bridge in it and it’s always haunted me lmao. It’s not the lowest tier episode for me to come out of season one and I only think I like it more ‘cause at that point you start to see the bond and devotion beginning to form in both Aeryn and D’Argo in their unwillingness to give up on searching for their shipmate. It also happens right after The Flax so my brain like, Hyper Analyzes Aeryn’s response to everything. It’s a little Star Trek-y which again, I’m not a huge fan of. :/
Which non-John/Aeryn romance do you like the best? - It’s gonna become really clear in a second how much I love multiple D’Argo ships WOMPWOOOOMP. My big fave is Zhaan/D’Argo I’M CRINGE BUT I’M FREE. It’s an absolute tragedy one of their only Chef Kiss moments is in one of the worst episodes of season 2 and also a hallucination but I’LL TAKE IT. Also them in Thank God It’s Friday, Again, Effervescent... I also love Jool/D’Argo, love their little romp in the comics simply for EXISTING. Them on Arnesk together and also Jool bringing out this Smart Luxan side of D’Argo more, YEAH WHATEVA. And also Staanz/D’Argo. BASED <3. Outside of that I enjoy Sikozu/Jothee from what little crumbs we get of them together in the comics. :) Just two nerds.
Favorite serious headcanon? - This is like, sooooooo hard. This is so hard. I can’t really think of one in particular that I favor. I’ve already talked about some of these I’m sorry!!!
I like the idea that their son was conceived on Talyn, it’s left a little ambiguous in-canon so I suppose I can say it’s a headcanon. I used to hate it as a kid. I was DEVOUTLY a “Deke is A Human Reaction baby” but I’ve very full-heartedly switched sides as I’ve aged haha.
I think the “Deke’s whacky powers coming from Aeryn’s side” is silly and I refuse to believe it’s real, I think it takes away from the uniqueness of the situation when it’s meant to imply that multiple PK babies are experiencing this. Homie just has the wormhole juice™ from his dad in my headcanon. Also I forget how they fix it in the comics but I like to think it’s just been made Dormant and it’ll be a surprise tool that’ll hinder/help him later in life.
I want a romp scenario Pre-Promises between an Aeryn who’s not at 100%, lowkey dying from Heat Delirium but she won’t admit it, and a midlife crisis Scorpius. I would KILL for this. My headcanon is they had at LEAST one little adventure together and that’s why Aeryn’s so headstrong about defending/protecting him against John. Like, he’d technically killed her in the past like, there’s gotta be more there from what happened between them prior to reaching Moya. They both needed each other to get to John and were really selfishly relying on one another to Achieve That. Like even in Natural Election she’s like “I trust you, but the others don’t,” LIKE WHERE IS THIS FOUNDED, YOU GUYS DID SOMETHING TOGETHER TO BOND. IT’S JUST SO UNEXPLORED AND I YEARN FOR IT.
I like the idea that after the end of Fetal Attraction, Aeryn and John finally talk about what all happened on Talyn on an equal plane of understanding. It’s mutual, John talks about his endeavors aboard Moya while she was away, but they more thoroughly discuss Talyn!John’s death and what all he’d done up to that point to stop the Scarrans. I think it just gives a little more context to John’s speech in the beginning of the next episode when he’s in the War Room and he gives this knowing look to Aeryn when he acknowledges and takes credit for Talyn!John’s deeds. They worked through their baggage offscreen. :)
Aeryn fully remembers the erased timeline where she got old with John because of what weird things happened in The Choice. I think this idea is very supportive of A Human Reaction c*nception so like I don’t care either way, but it kinda makes you wonder if her first kid in that timeline WAS John’s and her remembering this timeline in The Choice is potentially why she suspects she might be pr*gnant in the finale episodes of the third season.
Favorite silly headcanon? - Yeah I’ll say my cringe ones.
I like to think Aeryn’s military space bod only worked the once in both Halting and Fastforwarding her pregnancy so all future kids would gestate more Humanely (In the species sense) and came unexpectedly haha. Which she of course hated (But secretly liked).
Dregon gets his own girlboss. He deserves it. <3
Grunchlk had two hands so not only did he grab Sikozu but also he saved D’Argo don’t worry about it. We haven’t seen him ‘cause he’s doing dumb stuff with Raxil or he’s farming somewhere random I’m sorry I don’t make the rules.
Aeryn nabbed a few baby things on Earth, really subtle things she probably hid from everyone but still like Lowkey Nesting. I like to think she confided in Olivia and she helped her out a little. :) Or at least just talked to her about it. Her reactions in A Constellation of Doubt be a little sussy.
John put a flower in Aeryn’s hair Once and it made her feel pretty and that’s the only girly thing she’s ever done ever so she does it at her wedding.
Opinion on Maldis? - I used to enjoy his episodes a lot more as a kid, but they get lamer for me with age. :/ I think Farscape achieves balls deep trippy far more effectively in other ways and consequently, Mr. Space Wizard is left in the dust. I like him more than Durka but it’s kinda insane how frequently I get them mixed up, very uninspired antagonists.
Favorite quote from each season? - It’s so hard deciding whether or not to go funny or Girthy haha. I’ll put bits of the script notes in too ‘cause I LIKE THEM WHATEVER!!!
Season 1 - (Staring moodily out the window. It thunders and an ambulance siren is heard) Look at that. That's it. Earth. Minus the sunshine.
Season 2 - (She gently pulls him into a motherly embrace that he just can't deny, although he makes little distressed sounds as if he's trying not to cry, not to allow himself to be taken in by this. She croons comfortingly to him. She brings his head to her shoulder, his eyes staring, making his little choking sounds and he slowly, slowly allows his head to sink onto her shoulder. He shuts his eyes and sighs as she whispers, with infinite softness, in his ear. They stay like that for a while, John cradled in the loving arms of his mother, resting, while she murmurs words of comfort to him. Once he has calmed she speaks again-) You've changed. (Without moving his head from her shoulder he responds in an even tone) People change to survive.
Season 3 - Dog - animal. It's a pet. He has this bone - it's the most important thing in the world, carries it everywhere he goes. And ah - one day he goes down to the water and he sees another dog with a bone, reflected on the surface. It's identical and he wants that bone too. So he opens his mouth to grab it - and his bone falls in the water and it disappears. It's gone. And he's left standing there... looking at himself. (John's cheeks are damp with tears of misery) And he has nothing.
Season 4 - I wore a bomb. (There's a long pause before he continues dreamily) A nuclear bomb in a field of flowers... (He sighs and blinks slowly. Aeryn turns her face toward him) I could get lucky. Tomorrow I could have a bigger bomb. (Aeryn slowly sits up) I could kill - more people. Maybe they'll be innocent people. Children. Maybe… (They lay there on their sides staring at each other for a long moment. John lowers his eyes and sighs. Aeryn reaches out at last and quietly strokes his hair, runs her fingers around his ear... He leans into her hand - and finally rests his head on her arm, heartbroken by the universe - and his part in it)
Opinion on how Scorpius changes in season 4? - There’s things I LIKE and things I DON’T LIKE that happen with Scorp in season 4. I think the beginning of the season for him starts SOOOOO INSANELY STRONG after the condemning end he gets in the third season. It just MAKES SENSE AND IT’S SO GOOD. I love the banter between him and John in season 4, love them working together, and his slow decay into realization that he’d been duped by an idiot. The Scarran spy stuff? Not really a fan! Kinda dumb, but I GET IT. Homeboy’s playing his cards. I just think it was a little redundant considering where we find him in The Peacekeeper Wars. I’m mainly just not a fan of the torture scenes I think they’re a little too hammy for my liking. Ahkna and Scorp, though... Meow...
Rewatching What If
It’s “careful what you wish for, you might just get it” hour on AoS, and Skimmons have a front row seat after sneaking in without paying the ticket.
Not only the world inside the Framework is significantly worse than the real one, none of the people who have had their biggest regrets erased are in any way happier for it.
Gestapo May simply traded one crushing regret for another.
Professor Coulson is a lonely, paranoid guy.
Dad Mack (Mack Daddy? *googles* oh. Yikes. 😬 No. 🤦♀️) comes the closest, but he’s raising his adorable daughter in the equivalent of nazi Germany.
SuperMace is living a life of constant loss while carrying the responsibility of the world on his shoulders against terrible odds. (kinda sounds like the protagonists of this one show I obsess about and, let me tell you, they are utterly miserable a good chunk of the time. 😁)
Radcliffe - not being able to cure Agnes was likely his biggest regret and the Framework has become that cure - is trapped with no hope and the full knowledge that his inventions have been twisted far beyond anything he might have wanted.
And Fitzler... well, I sense much fear in him. And anger. And hate. Such is the path of the dark side. 🤭
So if the purpose of the Framework was to provide happier lives, I feel we can say with a certain level of confidence that it failed spectacularly.
Of course, even before Aida’s wish to become a real girl made things exponentially worse, happier lives weren’t the primary goal, despite Radcliffe’s lofty ambitions.
When May was the only prisoner, the simulation was being constantly tweaked to keep her from fighting back. And this is exactly where everyone is: compliant and harmless to the program, even the Patriot because the Resistance is still working within the confines of the simulation and has no chance to hurt the overall structure of the Framework or impede Aida’s plans without the knowledge forthcoming from the real world.
Skimmons Co-Op gamers AU:
Ah, that special feeling when you boot up a game for the first time and begin learning about your character and their world, either thrust into a brand new life to roleplay or a blank slate with nothing, a nameless prisoner or, say, recently returned to life by magic or tech...
Daisy and Jemma, for some reason, are entirely unenthused about the experience, yet the Framework is an amazing game and I say we should acknowledge Aida’s (and Radcliffe’s, and Fitz’s, and of course the Darkhold’s) prowess as a developer. The world building is top notch, the NPCs feel alive, choices most definitely have consequences (/nudge Bioware) and the gameplay is diverse with already plenty of action in the first hour. Granted, the tutorial is a little lacking, as they’re basically left on their own to figure out how to play, but that’s clearly a feature. Plus, they are pirating the game. Buy the damn thing before review bombing it on Metacritic, right? 😁
Even without fully appreciating the masterpiece they’re playing, Skimmons sus out fairly quickly why things are so out of whack, once they get over the initial shocks and the important business of deciding who had it worse: Jemma, who woke up buried in a mass grave, or Daisy, almost literally in bed with the NPC of her murderous, double-crossing former crush whose face is the same of her most haunting nightmare.
They both agree on option two, but as a starting point for a CRPG, dead in a mass grave is a bit of a classic. One more for the music box, eh?
Stuff:
Aida’s Framework is clearly a RPG, while Deke’s S6 Framework is more like an old school shooter, all corridors, cheesy banter and highly sexualized female eye-candy (🤬). From Golden Age Bioware all the way back to Duke Nukem 3D. As for S5′s Framework, we didn’t see much but I’m going with The Sims, Adult rated.
Daisy’s and Jemma’s regrets do not feature in the Framework at all and this is not an opinion. They hacked into the simulation, Aida never scanned their brains and didn’t update the program to fit them in.
I’m fascinated by FW!Skye’s apartment. Would these be Daisy’s choices in interior decor, too, I wonder? It doesn’t feel like her, but I don’t know what would, so I’m just pausing a lot and checking everything lol. The highlight is what looks like an antique Chinese wardrobe, which suggests that FW!Skye, while unaware of her true origins, might have known about her ethnic background. And of course there’s the hula girl on the dresser.
You're on another planet this morning. Not yet!😁
Skye... there are things about me that you wouldn't like if you knew. Real Ward told her the same thing in 1x19, and a few minutes later she discovered Eric’s body. Fun!
Kill me already. There, there. *pats Daisy* Don’t worry, it gets worse.😁
FW!Ward may be fighting the fascists rather than helping them but he’s a pretty bad boyfriend when you think about it from FW!Skye’s side of things: he’s been lying to her for years and he’s working for the organization that’s been trying to kill/neutralize all her friends and co-workers. And the “it’s just not the right time” speech? Dude. You’re supposed to be good at this, what tired bunch of lame excuses was that?🤣
FW!Lincoln died during Fitzler’s experiments and his power will be one of the many in organic!Aida’s arsenal.
I don’t care what you’ve hacked. [...] Do I have to get you drug-tested? I feel like Gestapo May and FW!Skye were stuck in early S1 mode. If both of them had been working for a slightly more fascist organization, that is. I’m also intrigued by the implication that FW!Skye might have had a habit of lighting a joint or popping a happiness pill every now and then. She was working for Hydra in a green-tinted dystopia with a sad all-in-one office pc and no smartphones. I’d want to loosen up too. 😉
Simmons having to crawl out of her own grave is certainly an experience. Between that and her middle name being Anne, my Buffysense was tingling.
I think it’s because Elizabeth had a cold, but her raspy voice really fits someone who just dug herself out of the ground.
You make art? Fascinating. So incredibly lifelike. [...] You have dreams. This is all so real. So many computational layers. For the time being, Simmons is maintaining a healthy detachment, very aware of existing in a simulated world.
They can test for Inhuman DNA, pre-Terrigenesis? Interesting. So in the real world you can’t do that?🤔
Hydra-issued citizen's card. But I know for a fact that your name isn't Jason Rajan, so I wonder, who made it? Ha! You cheater! Your character is not supposed to know that! 😂
Not one smartphone. Yes, I noticed. Even the Hydra agents are using BlackBerries or whatever. As living in a fascist dystopia wasn’t bad enough, they’re all stuck with monochrome 320 x 240 screens.
Our friend here went hiking. -- Oh, yeah? In a dumpster or...? A fascist with a sense of humour!
Coulson’s “history” lesson is even more chilling because the guy we know would be horrified listening to himself spouting that stuff.
I'm sorry if she killed an Inhuman child, but if it saved everyone else... I think this puts to rest any notion that Daisy ever blamed May for the Katya situation. Back in S2 she brought up Bahrain - perhaps a tad indelicately 🤭 - to make the point that Inhumans had reasons to be wary of S.H.I.E.L.D. and humans in general. Which they did and still do.
Hail Fitzler. Another one with a penchant for dramatic entrances, I see. You really want to stop smiling, Daisy. A grimace is far more appropriate. Punching him repeatedly would also be a-ok, believe me.
I know I sound like a lunatic, but you have had your mind wiped and implanted with false memories. Honestly, with all the fictional stories we have that revolve around exactly that, if someone said this to me, I wouldn’t think they’re crazy and my reaction might actually be excitement.
Coulson has a hula girl and Simmons thinks it’s because of T.A.H.I.T.I., but it’s likely because of Daisy instead. And the fact he’ll remember her name is a strong indication of that. Cal also had a hula girl. It’s a Daisy’s dads thing to do.
Your memory's been rewritten before! You are Phil Coulson, agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and your subconscious knows that! This is why Coulson will (partially) remember and the others will not.
You're not even real, you rogue piece of code! Yeah, but he’s a smart rogue piece of code. Petition for Burnell to be in the player’s squad for the Framework RPG.
And for the record, Hydra? They’re all nazis. [...] every last one of them. And don’t you let anyone forget it. No worries, I won’t. ✊
Fitzler’s experimentation space is enclosed in a plastic tent, reminiscent of the makeshift operation room in 5x14 (or, rather, the other way around,).
This is crimes-against-humanity wrong. -- These are Inhumans. Fitzler’s mindset here, besides being abhorrent, helps explain why simply asking for Daisy’s cooperation in 5x14 won’t factor in the plan, despite being the avenue any sensible person not currently experiencing a psychic split with a nazi alter ego would have gone for first. Inhumans are pieces of meat to him, tools, not people. What they want or feel doesn’t matter.
Skye, you never leave early. You've been pissed at me all morning. Your attitude at work here sucks. It's like I woke up to a totally different person. Pissed at Ward, pissed at Hydra... sounds about Daisy.😁
Among Coulson’s news clippings there’s Doctor Winslow (Cal’s new identity after T.A.H.I.T.I.) arrested for subversion - he was experimenting to make Inhumans - Felix Blake being celebrated as a hero and Bakshi winning a Lifetime Achievement Award. He also has an ad for a String Quartet’s concert (with a note about a cellist), a calendar with a picture of a car that looks like Lola (and it’s the month of May), sketches of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s eagle and of course pages of “It’s a magical place” writings.
I saw that you were dead. Wait. Are you still dead? -- No, I'm feeling much better. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Coulson gave me up, didn't he? He's completely different, Daisy. You wouldn't believe it. After the day she's had? I think she just might.
Everything's worse here. I woke up buried alive, was ditched on the side of the road, nearly arrested, and found Coulson brainwashing the young. -- It sounds bad, but wait till you hear how I woke up. -- [...] And [Ward] is who you woke up with? […] This isn't the Framework. This is Hell. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You know, my father always said you have to have trust to be betrayed. Ah yes, your new, and definitely not improved, role model. 😬 Maybe this is the one good thing that came out of the Framework, in a really twisted way, because after everything Fitz may have felt less bad that in the real world his douchy dad didn’t stick around.
And what did they do to Fitz to make him such an ugly person here? -- Well, that one's easy. They stole [Jemma] from his life. Daisy and her OTP. But, no, it’s not the lack of Jemma that turned him into a nazi. And thank Asgard for that, because it would have been very disturbing.
In the comics Madame Hydra is Viper, aka Ophelia Sarkissian, a Hydra-raised supervillain. The name and the green aesthetics are the only things she has in common with AoS Madame Hydra. Although we don't know what kind of backstory Aida gave herself in her special brand of self-insert fanfic, so 🤷
I won't stand by as they try to destroy everything that we have built. I have to protect that. I have to protect you. Fitzler or Fitz, at the core there’s always the fear of losing his beloved.
You're the person that I go to when things get heavy. And this world is scary, and nothing makes sense, and... you're the closest thing I have to family. The last time Daisy had voiced this sentiment aloud was in S2, speaking of Coulson to her mother.
Daisy? *sniff* Yes. Yes, you paranoid, propaganda-spouting, soap-making conspiracy nut. Come here, let me give you a hug. You’ll be alright.
Agents of SHIELD Fic: Come On, Sweet Catastrophe
post-7x09 dousy (sousy? daisysous?) angst and talking and a little bit of sweetness. Because Daisy’s got some stuff to work through.
Title from “Hurricane” by Something Corporate, because yes, I was an aughts emo kid and yes, “you don’t do it on purpose, but you make me shake” was a line written for Daisy Johnson.
Come On, Sweet Catastrophe (AO3 - wc: 2393)
She and Coulson sit there with Enoch for what feels like forever. Even after he’s gone, even after they’re out of danger, even after Mack sends the all clear over the comms, they just sit there in silence.
She had told him, however many loops ago, how sure she was that they’d figure it out. She should have known it would go like this. They’re not that lucky. There’s no victory without consequence these days, not when the stakes get higher every time she looks up.
Sousa is the first of the team to get to them, of course he is. She can’t even pretend that she’s confused about why anymore. She knows now, just like she knows how frightened he looks when he’s about to die.
“Daisy!”
He says her name when he sees her slumped on the floor, and looking up at him is enough to push forward the tears that have been threatening to fall.
She’s not sure who moves first, but she’s reaching for him as he’s crouching to help her to her feet and it feels more natural than it should when she turns and buries her face in the crook of his neck.
“You did it,” he whispers, and it’s not as comforting as she hoped it might be.
She nods against his shoulder, taking in a deep breath as a fresh wave of grief and worry threatens to take her knees out from under her. “But, Enoch...“
“I know.” Daisy loosens her grip to see May and Mack are already seeing to the body.
“Why did he-”
“It was the only way.” Coulson answers before she can finish the question — even though she’s not entirely sure it’s the one she was trying to ask.
Deke nods in agreement, swiping at his cheeks with a jacket sleeve. Simmons can’t meet her eyes.
Suddenly, inside her, the sadness begins to crystallize into something darker. Coulson was right, it’s a special kind of devastation to be the one carrying the memories of all the failed loops. It feels almost like her childhood, packing her lonely memories into those flimsy black trash bags when it came time to move on to the next home. She can blink and see Mack going blind, Simmons gasping for breath, Sousa falling to the ground right in front of her.
And they’ll all leave her again, Enoch had warned with his last breaths. A bitter, angry dread pushes its way up her throat, blurring her vision and crawling across her skin, and an old familiar instinct returns.
She pushes Sousa back a step and turns for the door, ignoring his confused look and the way he calls her first name again as she leaves without a word.
_______________
The thing about this ship, she’s learned over the years, is that there’s really nowhere to run away. She makes it to the loading bay before setting down in an exhausted huff, and when Sousa follows moments later, taking the seat next to her, it feels like deja vu. Daisy remembers the fire in his eyes when he talked about taking on HYDRA single-handedly if he had to, remembers how it had ignited something in her own chest.
She remembers how he had told her time wasn’t the only thing he’d lost in the fight so far. She remembers wanting to tell him that she knows that feeling too.
Now, he just sits in silence, waiting for her to make the first move. When she finally does speak, she wonders if she surprises them both.
“When all of this is over, if we survive,” she asks, even as the odds of that seem lower than ever after today, “would you want to go back?”
“What do you mean?”
“Back to 1955. Back to your life.”
“I-I couldn’t. I’m dead, remember?” There’s a crinkle in the corner of his eyes, but his gaze is serious and she can tell he’s trying to feign a playful response to put her at ease.
She’s had countless extra time to try and figure him out, but when, in the midst of all this chaos, did he learn to read her so well?
“You work for S.H.I.E.L.D.” She adds a sarcastic eye roll for good measure, and hates herself immediately for it. “I think they could figure out how to keep that secret. Or you could have a whole new life, travel the world, I don’t know.”
“Why are you asking me this?”
It’s a fair question, and one for which she has no good answer. Maybe she’s selfishly trying to get him to reveal even more of himself to her. Maybe she’s trying to push him away proactively, to blow this up before it can even really begin.
“Just wondering, if you could. You said it yourself, there were some goodbyes…”
“Daisy.” It’s sharp, but not angry. He knows what she’s up to, even if he has no idea why. Even if she’s not entirely sure herself.
She sighs, and looks down at where her fingernails are dug into her thighs.
“You don’t call me Agent Johnson.”
“No,” he answers, immediately back on an even keel. “I guess I don’t.”
“You call the others by their last names,” she ventures, forcing herself to meet his eyes again.
“Yeah, I do.” This time the crinkle is genuine, and her heart gives a warning thud in her chest.
She wants to tell him everything. How many times she woke to find him at her bedside. How he’d sacrificed himself without a second thought, trusting her completely. How he had answered so simply when she asked why he cared.
(“Because you don’t.” Not a moment’s hesitation, nothing ulterior about it. The same way he’s had her back since the first day they met.)
She wants to tell him that she’s ashamed for only working up the courage to kiss him after she knew what it felt like to lose him.
But she decides to tell him something else instead.
“HYDRA destroyed my family,” she says softly. Out of the corner of her eye she watches his right hand flex into a fist. “They tortured and killed my mother, and drove my father mad, and left me alone in this world.”
She takes a deep shuddering breath and purposely doesn’t meet his eyes. “S.H.I.E.L.D. gave me a purpose, and a home, and if it’s all falling apart, I don’t know what I...”
I don’t know what I’m going to do. I don’t know who I’m going to be. I don’t know how I’m going to survive.
The violent voice in her head is silenced, though, when Sousa reaches out gently to take her hand in his.
“Did you learn something, in one of the loops?” he asks. She has to stop herself from scoffing — if only he knew — but she doesn’t pull away. It feels like she’s mere moments from coming completely apart, and that’s the last thing they have time for right now.
“Enoch, as he died, he warned us that this would be our last mission together,” she tells him. “I can’t even imagine a world where that’s true.”
Sousa hesitates but only for a moment.
“Well, it’s not like we haven’t changed the future plenty already.” Of course he still has faith. Of course he’s still unflinchingly in her corner. It shouldn’t surprise her, of all people. She’s the one that watched him wake up in that uncomfortable chair time and time again, ready to give her any support she needed.
“But Daisy,” he continues, “you’re not giving yourself enough credit. For as much as S.H.I.E.L.D. made you, you made it what it is, too.”
His eyes are just as earnest as she expects them to be when she finally looks up. And it feels like her whole rib cage splinters when he gives her hand a little squeeze and continues.
“I know your type. You’re the kind of person who fights tooth and nail to hold onto the things she loves. If you have any say at all, you’re not going to lose this family.”
It’s impossibly unfair to hold against him things that he hasn’t even said in this timeline, but she can’t help it. It’s the only part of his whole lovely sentiment that she actually hears clearly. “I know your type.” It echoes in her eardrums, throbs at the base of her skull.
It was perhaps the kindest thing anyone’s ever said to her, his little lost speech about being there to pick her back up, and it makes her ache to think about how it didn’t really happen at all. Not for him, at least.
But he’s still sitting here, isn’t he? He chased her down to hold her hand and look at her with those earnest eyes. It’s a look that tells her he’d give that speech all over again if she asked him to.
She wonders what Peggy Carter felt when he looked at her like that.
“Did you love her?”
It is absolutely, categorically, not at all the question she planned on asking him. Probably ever. But it’s the one that comes out.
He blinks, and then shrugs, pulling his hand away, and she realizes: this is what it looks like when he’s shaken. If she could reach out and take it back, she would in a second.
“I, uh- I don’t know,” he admits. “I think so. We didn’t really get a chance to…”
Now he’s the one who won’t meet her eyes, and it’s agonizing. He rolls with the punches so well, but Daisy should have known that there would be a breaking point. He lost 30 years — his whole life — in a blink, and the fact that he doesn’t dwell on it publicly is no excuse for her carelessness.
He even told her, back in that speech she can’t forget, that things weigh heavier on him than he lets on — and she blew past any semblance of propriety and pressed a thumb into his metaphorical bruises.
But before she can tell him any of this as part of a much-deserved apology, he’s standing to leave, rubbing absently at the knee joint of his new bionic before he does.
“You really should rest some more after… all of that,” he says softly, casting a quick, inscrutable glance at her as he goes. “Just for a little. I’m here if you need me.”
He says that, but then he’s gone. Down the hall towards his makeshift bunk. She wants badly to follow him, can feel the selfish ache in her fortified bones. But she’s not sure she deserves that kind of validation.
_______________
In another life, another time, Daisy’s sure she would stay behind and wallow in the callous way she’d let her own emotions step her so clearly over the line. In this one, where she’s ever cognizant of just how precious each moment can be, she gives him five, maybe ten minutes.
Thankfully, his door is still open. He’s sat on his bunk, fiddling idly with his wristwatch, and when he looks up he doesn’t seem surprised to see her.
“I shouldn’t have-“
They say it at the same time. It tugs at the corner of her mouth, but there’s no way she’s letting him apologize to her, so she speaks first — telling him another thing that’s true, another thing that’s been weighing on her mind.
“I’m afraid that if I go to sleep, I’m going to wake up in the loop again.”
He doesn’t answer right away, just pats the bunk next to him, and she doesn’t hesitate.
“Was there anything good in any of them?” he asks as she sits down beside him. “Other than the last one where you, you know, saved all of our lives and the entire human race? Anything else worth remembering?”
She turns to watch him as he speaks. She’s closer here than she was in the bay, and she thinks she could lose a few good minutes remembering what the salt and pepper on his temple or the line of his jaw or the unbuttoned collar of his dress shirt look like up close.
“Yeah.” Her voice comes out thick, and she has to clear her throat. “Yeah there were some moments.”
Sousa looks down at her as he waits for her to continue and the softness and trust in his gaze is another thing worth remembering.
“In one of them, I asked you why you care so much,” she tells him, readying herself for more honesty. “Why you’re always willing to help, no questions asked. Why you had my back right from the start.”
“And?”
Part of her had worried he was making some kind of comparison, Daisy realizes, but she knows now that it’s not about who she is to him, or who Peggy Carter was. It’s about the kind of man Daniel Sousa is, and seemingly always has been.
She leans back against the wall behind them and he follows. She tilts her head against his shoulder. Again, he follows, leaning softly against her.
“And you told me,” she answers, sure he already knows somehow.
“Good,” he says. Daisy can feel his mouth curve into a smile, and it feels almost more intimate than kissing him. “I’m glad I did.”
“Yeah?”
Her eyes feel heavy as the adrenaline from earlier finally starts to dissipate, and she wonders if she could actually fall asleep here, upright, but next to him. It’s the safest she’s felt in a long time.
“Yeah,” Daniel answers. “And there’s something else you should know, too.”
“What’s that?” Daisy feels his hand wrap around hers again as she drifts off.
“When all of this is over, the only place I want to be is where you are.”
ask game: 7 + 16
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
Sam Winchester from spn (even when he irritated me in canon it wasn't enough to truly dislike his character but fans acting like he was a 6 year old child who can do no wrong and can't be held accountable for his own screw ups seriously started to make me dislike his character. Not as much though now lol)
Loki. Even his worst actions never bothered me because he was always a villain and he was interesting on screen, but his fans trying to make him the victim of every situation and that popular 'he's actually a teenager in Asgard years' headcanon annoyed me so much. He's not a helpless little misguided angel. He deliberately hurt people as a grown, powerful, adult and killed hundreds. His character having depth and nuance doesn't change that.
(a lot of characters from aos would technically fit but canon is usually the reason I started disliking those characters at first and fandom just made my dislike stronger. ex: ward, Fitz, deke, Simmons but not as much)
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
Fitzsimmons. My God, I tried so hard to like them and ship them in the beginning. I don't understand how they're considered the greatest couple like, where??? (but then codependency, slow burn, and jealous male trope is very popular in every fandom for some reason so it checks out I guess)
also, when fans take great found families and then infantilize the younger characters. weirds me out every time. Sorry, but daisy isn't a little baby who needs daddy Coulson and mama May to hold her hand and treat her like a child. She can view them as surrogate parents (she only really does this with Coulson in canon though, and even then because they met as adults one moment their relationship is a certain way and the next its another, which makes sense. don't think canon Daisy would ever call Coulson "dad" or May "mom" unless as a joke)while still treating them like friends/mentors and with them still treating her like a capable adult who can make her own life choices. She's literally 25 when she meets them.
cruel boy with a bad past + good girl romance.
enemies to lovers and childhood friends to lovers (except for very few scenarios
there's probably. a lot of other tropes but my mind is blank rn.
Thank you very much for sending in this ask! sorry if some of these responses sounded...harsh? I'm half asleep so I wrote it the way I'd say it, which I know doesn't always translate well through writing lol
Thoughts on 7x05 (spoilers):
•First of all, depressing AoS episodes... I can’t say I missed you, but this was very on brand
•I was hoping we could have more happiness before everything went to shit but I guess not
•Sousa is so pure he’s like a puppy omg
•I literally loved all his scenes with Daisy and when she showed him her phone he’s so cute I sWEAR
•However him yelling at Jemma, while understandable, was really sad and I’m just so concerned for her :(
•Which leads me to DEKE STEPPING UP FOR HER YES THIS IS ALL I HAVE EVER WANTED
•Seriously he just protected her and my heart went🥺
•Also no chill deke killing Freddy? Amazing. I’m not sure if it was a good move but I gasped out loud and honestly he was pissing me off too
•When the chronicoms sent them ahead of time like WHAT THE HELL
•Also Mack seeing his parents in danger honestly I can’t blame him for what he did
•ENOCH MY BOY I MISSED YOU SM
•HES THE BEST HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE HIM
•Also now we know why Jemma wanted to find him but that just led to more questions like what is going on with her? What is the neck thing? AOS WHY
•The Jemma/deke scene in the beginning was all I wanted pls I love them
•Deke this is the second time you’ve reminded Jemma that she needs to “bump lemons” with fitz for you to exist I think she gets it
•The “bye nana” was so soft I died
•May was great in this episode and her punching stoner was so funny
•I hate the chronicoms so much and just what the hell is going on with the malicks? Seems like they are all worse than each other I swear
•And finally to recap, May and Coulson are being held at gunpoint, Mack, Jemma and Enoch are being shot (not to mention the neck thingy), and Daisy and Sousa have been kidnapped so that Malick can get Daisy’s powers... everything is bad yay
•Lastly at least Fitz’s name was dropped this episode, we saw Jemma still working on his message, and the shot of the Zephyr in the forest was the same place that Fitz left it in s5 with Hunter (and we see a similar shot in 5x11 so? We got something? At this point I’ll take it
part three: my thoughts on the characters of agents of shield
preview of what’s underneath ‘KEEP READING’
natalia cordova-buckley — WHEN WE FIRST MET YO-YO I FUCKING SCREAMED.
jeff ward — deke, the D. not gonna lie. i didn’t like his character much in the beginning. especially when they hinted at a romance between him & daisy. but that little asshole grew on me.
nick blood — lance hunter is such a goofball.
link to part two - LINK
natalia cordova-buckley — WHEN WE FIRST MET YO-YO I FUCKING SCREAMED. the way her power is pretty realistic??? how she snaps back to where she was??? how mack came up with her nickname cuz of that!!! the way the team met her - trying to stop the corrupt police in her town like the little vigilante she is. when she was in the containment pod& realized she was trapped& just was going super-speed at all the walls. that scene was amazing.
i loved when joey had to translate for her & she got frustrated cause it was taking too long & just said ‘screw shield’ - i laughed not gonna lie. the actual slow progression of her learning english & the way her accent never fully goes away. AND CAN I JUST SAY. when mack chose to stay in the framework & elena went in to try & convince him to leave it even though his dead daughter was alive in there & he said no - the fact she was just like ‘well, guess i’m gonna stay & die here with you’ i can’t... *holding back tears* it’s fine guys.
also can i get a shout-out to the actress who read the comics, found out her character had robotic arms in the comics & begged the writers to cut off her arms for like 3 seasons until they finally were like “ok, jesus christ, we’ll cut your arms off” - i cackled when i heard that.
jeff ward — deke, the D. not gonna lie. i didn’t like his character much in the beginning. especially when they hinted at a romance between him & daisy. but that little asshole grew on me. yes, i grew to love deke. the way he handled his crush on daisy was really mature & when we saw him see a tree for the first time??? wholesome af. deke somehow manages to be a heathen & wholesome.
the fact that he ended up being fitz & simmons grandson vs their son was a bit of a twist but people were calling that they were related for a while if i recall? idk, i kinda hate that trope in time-travel. i don’t know why, maybe because it makes it so certain things are set in stone. i.e. fitzimmons living long enough to have a daughter.
there was no real peril in fitz dying at the end of s5 (in my mind) because deke had to be born. but overall - he was a good character & jeff ward did a good job with the material given.
nick blood — listen. i’m still bitter, this one i’ll admit to being bitter about, i’m 100% still bitter that nick blood & adrianne palicki left the main show for a spin-off & it never fucking happened. cause i wanted that spin-off. i still want that spin-off.
lance hunter is such a goofball, always sticking his foot in his mouth, but meaning well. i love him. his relationship with bobbi was interesting. it was obvious there was some real fire there but they were always arguing. i’ll be honest, i don’t really get why they got back together, it kind of seemed like a loop? they seemed like they’d just end up back where they were. but whatever. when he met up with coulson & just signed his name on a napkin. amazing.
the fact he isn’t the brightest bulb is just... the best. cause on one end you have fitz & simmons, even tactically, mack & bobbi being better than him. but his subtle as a brick methods sometimes worked. like when he just knocked that guy out on the side of the road & when they had the guy in the van but needed his blood, so he punched him while he was already unconscious & everyone was like “what the fuck” but he was just like “what he’s bleeding now” - he brought a bit of a freshness to the team after all the stealth/tactical/scientific mastery.
decor(um...)
for Hauntober 2020. day thirteen: “bat”
The company’s lobby gets decorated for the spooky season.
The hands that covered his eyes made Deke smile even while he pulled his own fingers away from his keyboard. He'd seen Trevor enter the office in a very unsubtle way, so he knew exactly who the hands belonged to, but the game was one he was actually familiar with, and he was going to have fun with it while he could. That decision had been made even before the familiar phrase was uttered close to his ear.
"Guess who."
"Is it... Kaya?"
"No."
"Lindsay?"
"No."
"Oh my god, Bobo?"
"I really hate you, sometimes."
"No, you don't. You love me."
The words got him a reward in the form of a kiss to the top of his hair before the hands disappeared from in front of his eyes, and he lifted his chin to gaze up at the man behind him with a smile. It was silly and a little bit ridiculous, but they were both plainly happy, and therefore he didn't regret a single second of it, not when the alternative was a bit boring. Guessing his boyfriend's hands on the first try? He was a genius, but that didn't mean he had to always act the part. It was way more fun to play a game of his own.
"Are you done being a dork, now?" Trevor arched a brow while smiling down at him, shaking his head before properly stepping away. "Come on. I sent one of the interns out to grab some things, and we're going to decorate the lobby. I already got a few other people in on it, too, so we'll be done before lunch."
Deke let out a soft gasp before pushing himself to his feet, moving to follow himi with a wider smile and a small bounce in his step. "Do I get a baby pumpkin for my office, too? I can put it right next to that picture of us from laser tag."
"Maybe not baby pumpkins, because I don't know what they grabbed, but if you really want a pumpkin for your desk, you can take one from home." Their fingers laced together while they walked, making their way down the steps. "I did specifically request that they get paper bats to hang up, but I left everything else up to them."
Squeezing the hand in his, Deke moved to step ahead of him eagerly, staying close enough that he didn't have to let go. The beginning of the month had seemed odd and strange, and he still wasn't entirely sure why all the decorating was being done in the first place, but the pumpkins around their apartment had grown on him, and he liked the snack options that came with the season, and the excuse to drink more hot chocolate. Having that energy around when he was working, and not just comfortably settled in at home, could only make his mood improve even more. And it was a pretty good distraction from what he was supposed to be working on.
"Oh my god, is that a bag of glow in the dark spiders?"
Within a matter of hours, the entire lobby was decorated - there were no fewer than a dozen paper bats hanging from the ceiling, fake spider webs along the stairs, a few of the baby pumpkins Deke loved so much on various tables and countertops. There were even a few fake spiders in the webs, much to his dismay, but he had wasted plenty of time cupping his hands and watching them glow in the dimmer light that came with it, and he'd been told twice that such a thing meant he wasn't allowed to complain about them anymore.
On his way back to his office after lunch, Deke stole one of the pumpkins from the nearest table to put it on his desk.
Agents of SHIELD for the fandom ask meme, if you're interested? I saw you liked some of my Deke posts, and now I'm curious if you finished the show out and if you too understand my love & pain for Deke or if you just like Jeff Ward's face. :)
Oh, I do like Jeff Ward’s face, but I love Deke’s character even more! Are you even surprised? lol
(FYI: I haven't seen Season 7 yet, though, and I have no idea what happens. No spoilers, please!)
the first character i ever fell in love with: Fitzsimmons
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Mmm... I don't love Coulson as much as I used to? After what happened to him, I just... I dunno. It's not the same. HE'S not the same.
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: I can't think of any.
my ultimate favorite character™: Fitzsimmons, who totally count as one character, obviously.
prettiest character: Objectively? Probably Jemma or Daisy or Yo-Yo. The ladies on this show are so pretty!
my most hated character: Kasius. *shudders* Ugh, he made my skin crawl. Also, Fitz's robot girlfriend.
my OTP: Fitzsimmons, but I'm a big fan of Yoyo × Mack and Coulson × May, too.
my NOTP: Daisy × Coulson. I LOVE them as a father/daughter pairing, but absolutely not as a romantic or sexual ship. Nope, definitely not, no thank you. Also was not a fan of Simmons × Will on principal, because Fitzsimmons is EVERYTHING.
favorite episode: "Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson" is definitely one of my favorites because of the hilarious brotp moments between Simmons × Daisy and Enoch × Fitz. Another standout is "Beginning of the End" (Season 1 finale), because FITZSIMMONS.
saddest death: Coulson, Fitz
favorite season: Tied for 5 or 6.
least favorite season: 4
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: I didn't hate him, but I definitely didn't get what was so great about Ward? I wasn't big on Ward × Skye, either.
my ‘you’re a piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: Deke Shaw, lol
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Fitzsimmons. Like, every season they get separated, and it's TORTURE.
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: Ngl, I totally liked Deke with Snowflake, the psycho assassin chick on Sarge's team in Season 6, who's always talking about butterflies. 🤷🏼♀️
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship:
Send me a fandom and I’ll tell you...
An Odd Family Tree
A series of snippets from the lives of the FitzSimmons family, set post 7x13. Also, the series of events that leads up to the birth of their grandson.
Available to read on AO3 and FF.net.
Comments make my day!
Chapter 5: Permission
Leo Fitz loved football. It was his thing. He used to play in the local field with a bunch of other boys when he was little- that’s before he started to spend every free hour of every day engineering. So about eleven years old then. And since they’d retired he’d taken a huge step back from engineering and fallen back with his first love. Seriously, if anyone asked him a simple question about football he would probably ramble about it for at least two hours.
“Knock knock!”
Oh, and another thing about football: he did not like getting interrupted.
He adjusted his position to sit up on the sofa. “If that’s anyone that’s not called Owen then come in!”
Of course, it was Owen who entered.
“Hi Mr Fitz-Simmons.” He greeted, somewhat meekly.
Fitz didn’t respond.
“Oh hey, you’re watching soccer. Can I join you?”
“Not if you call it soccer.” Fitz grumbled. Owen just laughed and sat next to him anyway.
If there was one thing that Fitz had learnt about Owen over the year of him dating Alya, it was that he could not shut up. And that was not an exaggeration. Fitz was pretty convinced that if the man went five minutes without saying something then he would quite possibly explode.
So it was unnerving to say the least when all he did was fidget next to him. He appeared to be concentrating on the screen, but when Fitz looked closely he could see that his eyes weren’t entirely focused.
He must’ve been deep in thought. Fitz didn’t even want to consider what the hell he was thinking about.
“So… you a big s- football guy then?” Owen asked eventually, making Fitz actually sigh in relief.
“Yes.” Was his short reply.
“Cool.”
Uncomfortable silence. Fitz felt like the other man was plotting something. He did not like it.
Owen took a deep breath. “Hey-”
“You do know I don’t like you, right?”
Letting out a choked sort of laugh, Owen hung his head and said quietly: “Really? I hadn’t noticed.”
“You’ve got no common sense,” Fitz continued, “and half the time I genuinely can’t tell if you’re faking your stupidity or not.
And I can never forgive you for taking my daughter away from me, Fitz doesn’t add.
“Look, I know you hate me.” Owen said, his voice still strangely quieter than usual.
It suddenly occurred to Fitz that Owen might be unwell. And even he, a cold-hearted miser according to Alya once, would feel guilty for insulting someone when they’re ill.
“Hate’s a strong word.” He told him. “I don’t hate you lad, but I think it would be crueler to lie and pretend to like you like Jemma does.”
Owen seemed to react at this, and Fitz wondered if he was really so dumb as to not realise that Jemma didn’t like him either.
“She doesn’t?” He asked, confirming Fitz’s theory.
And there was that guilty feeling again. “Well she definitely likes you more than I do. We love Alya with everything we have, and we only want the best for her. And whatever she says, I for one couldn’t care less if my daughter doesn’t end up with you. Now don’t you have somewhere better to be?”
Fitz realised a little too late that he’d phrased that wrong, and for once he actually hoped that Owen wouldn’t pick up on the subtext.
“I love her too, y’know.” Owen said dejectedly. “And I came here to ask you something. But I’m a little put off now if I’m honest…”
On-screen, it was half-time. Fitz tried to relay the fact that Owen was ill over and over in his head to stop himself from punching him.
“If answering your question will make you go away, then sure. Ask away.” He said, taking a sip of his tea.
Owen took a deep breath and looked Fitz in the eyes. Fitz noticed for the first time just how bright, green, and honest they were.
“Will you give me your blessing to marry your daughter?”
He did not do a spit take. That never happened. But it was funny, for a second Fitz could have sworn Owen just said…
“What?”
“You heard me.” Owen said, and suddenly Fitz realised why Owen had sounded off.
He’d been nervous- no, terrified of him. This entire time he’d been trying to muster as much confidence as he could. And the fact that he’d been scared meant that he respected him.
And Fitz didn’t know how to feel. He felt like he’d just been shot in the heart but the pain hadn’t registered yet.
He coughed. “W-Well, you’ve got nerve, I’ll tell you that.” He did not wipe the liquid off his chin, because he did not do a spit take. “After I just told you how much I don’t like you.”
Owen laughed, a bit more menacing this time. “I hope you know that I’ll propose to her whatever you say. It’s just that you three are so close that I thought I’d ask for your blessing.”
The implications started to sink in. “Wait, you’re being serious?”
This man, this hooligan, was asking to marry his little monkey. His princess. His universe. His Alya. The girl whose nappies he changed. The girl to whom he showed the stars. The girl who he tried to teach engineering to, but ended up taking after her mother and studying biology and becoming one of the leading experts in marine biology and was running an entire initiative to save the oceans.
The woman that had just turned thirty.
Ever since Owen, Alya had fought with him a lot more frequently. She would always defend him, telling her father that it was his fault that he didn’t just give him a chance to get to know him. Fitz didn’t change his stance. And maybe, Fitz thought, if he’d taken that chance, then he would be able to see Alya’s appeal in Owen. Her love for him hadn’t wavered, and any fights she’d had with Owen had all been resolved very quickly. Was it really only Fitz that felt so negatively towards him?
“Hey, um, before you answer let me say something.” Owen said.
“I know I’m reckless and stupid. I get that from my parents. But when I’m standing next to literally the smartest family on the planet, how can I not be? I think you think I’m ‘the worst’ (yes, I heard that) because of that, when in reality I’m just average. I was shocked when Alya loved me back, because she is the definition of a genius, and I’m just… me. I’m Owen. The guy nobody likes.”
Fitz listened on in silence, every word striking him as familiar.
...Deke.
“And I tried so hard to impress you,” Owen continued, “even though you guys already know everything. It’s impossible to impress you. The one thing that impresses me is the fact that Alya still likes me after so long. So yeah, I understand if you say no, but I love your daughter and I’m actually pretty good at fighting so I’m willing to die for her. I’ve been told that I can be pretty selfish, and I agree, but not when it comes to Alya. She’s my everything.”
Wordlessly, Fitz switched off the TV. Football could come later. He didn’t know when his eyes had started to well up, but he knew that his vision was now blurry. He had to swallow the lump in his throat.
“You have my blessing.”
Owen nearly jumped out of his seat. “Wait, really?!”
Fitz’s breathing was shaky, and he held his head in his hands. “Yes.” He said, his voice muffled. “Now go before I change my mind.”
It was comical how quickly Owen raced out of the room.
Jemma walked in moments later.
“Darling what’s wrong? What did you say to Owen this time?”
“I told him to bugger off.” Fitz said, looking up to face his confused wife.
“Really? Is that-”
“Jemma.” He interrupted, his voice breaking. “He asked for my blessing.”
Jemma’s face went through a whirlwind of emotions in a tiny amount of time like a silent movie.
“O-Oh.” She said finally. “Did you..?”
“Yeah.” Said Fitz. “But Jemma, he sounded just like Deke.”
Both of them flinched at the name.
He sighed. “Is it bad that the main thing I remember was that I couldn’t stand him?”
“Yes, it is.” Jemma said, moving to sit next to her husband and rub his back soothingly. She was beginning to get choked up herself. “I remember that he was lovely. His memory is what lets me tolerate Owen.”
She wiped away the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes.
“I think you need to start at least tolerating him now, too.”
Fitz did the same for his wife.
“Yeah, I guess I’m gonna have to now.”
