Catra: "It doesn't matter what I do. I don't get to win." :( but also "winning" should not be the objective of your life and you will spend the next season and a half being forced to learn that

Once again Scorpia's obvious one-sided love is painful to watch.

I hate that she's not entirely wrong!!! Like given her life up to this point of course she'd come to this conclusion. D:

Glimmer: The Horde is evil, and EVIL PEOPLE DON'T CHANGE Adora: I'm standing right here. Like you're literally talking to me.

(Okay but it's often true in the case of abusers, especially in romantic relationships. If you haven't read "Why Does He Do That" you should. Majority of abusers don't change for long--he talks about the circumstances under which they do, but repeatedly notes that it's very very rare and that a lot of them are good at faking improvement just for the amount of time it takes to get you under their control again. In any case that's why if people believe your partner is abusing you, the universal advice is "you need to leave.")

uggggh and the worst part is, she's actually right about a number of people in the Horde! I always knew it was a matter of time before Scorpia left the Horde, for instance.

But Shadow Weaver? Adora wants to believe this because Shadow Weaver was her mom, basically.

Anyway Bow and Glimmer offer to go with her, which is a good thing to do if you're ever going to try to talk things out with your abuser, because 1. they behave better in front of witnesses, generally speaking 2. other people are more likely to spot manipulative bullshit

Compassionate to a fault as always, but also, I know there's still that bit of hope in there, the same one Catra had, of making her happy and finally getting loved. Adora has a huge advantage Catra didn't, though; which is that she has a great deal of love in her life from other sources. :(

Hordak: I am Evil and Scary!!! And I want Catra GONE. Entrapta: Yeah, okay. So anyway like I was saying, Catra's improved everything, but also, we need her to get us this thing!!! Hordak: No. Go away. Entrapta: :( k but I'll leave the info here for you to read on your own

The sad thing is, Shadow Weaver can be a good teacher.

plotty stuff I want to remember later: Hordak's goal is opening a portal into space to get Horde's armies through and defeat Etheria forever--and this is the first time a bunch of characters find out the Horde is bigger than one army on Etheria, and the reason he's close to getting that portal now is that Entrapta is helping him, and that once upon a time Hordak did succeed in opening a portal for a moment, and Adora was the result--she wasn't born on Etheria.

Glimmer: you're a fuckin' liar Shadow Weaver: I mean usually yeah lol. But like, why would I bother this time, what would I get out of it?

has anyone written an essay/post/paper about Adora as a bit of a Jesus figure

(I mean a LOT of people treat She-Ra like she's a messiah equivalent? But uhhhh that's also just how The Chosen One trope tends to go. Plus Jesus didn't resurrect himself so he could kiss a girl--though he did choose to show himself post-resurrection to Mary Magdalene first, so interpret that as you will.)

ALSO y'know that timeline I linked way earlier in the post? parts of it are kinda iffy but I'm lol'ing because good lord as bananas as the lore can sometimes be, I'm still thinking that one for Steven Universe would be even wilder (and we know Rebecca Sugar actually had one, written out on paper, with a ton of color-coding). But also this summary of Adora's first convo with Light Hope is WILD because IT'S NOT WRONG (hardcore spoilers ahoy? but also if that's an issue you shouldn't be reading these posts lol):

Adora encounters Light Hope and is given the quest to "balance the planet". Light Hope attempts to isolate Adora from her friends my saying that balancing the planet requires her to let go of her attachments to her friends. This bears remarkable similarity to cult-psychology isolation tactics. It is especially worrying once you know that Light Hope is a Paperclip Maximizer and "Balance the Planet" is a euphemism for "rebuild and rearm the Weapon of Universal Genocide".

And if you've never heard of "paperclip maximizers" the wikipedia page about them is awesome but also I once wrote a post about the gems from Steven Universe also being paperclip maximizers. Here's a quote from the wikipedia page:

Jane/Eleven: deserves a nap. should be compensated for all the shit she does for others. Victor Frankenstein, is that you ???

I have many drafts of unanswered asks and I’m finally getting around to answering! Thanks @curiousnonny :)

1. THG = 2.5

I don’t hate it and it’s not terrible, some of it is really good actually like how they did Rue’s death. I think my biggest qualm is how poorly they set up Everlark and somewhat mischaracterized Peeta. I remember watching it in theatres and being very disappointed. Having read the book first, it just wasn’t how the world and characters looked in my mind so it was a hard adjustment and I still feel disconnected from the movies. I distinctly remember questioning why they made the cornucopia silver and futuristic when in the book it is described as golden and looks the standard Thanksgiving cornucopia lol (side note: I know the book cornucopia seems unrealistic or out of place in high tech Panem, but I just think it being unrealistic is kinda cool because it’s a remnant of North American culture)

2. Catching Fire = 4

It’s my favorite, and I think a lot of that stems from Catching Fire being my favorite book of the series. They did change some things and it wasn’t perfect. I don’t like how they played up the triangle more than it was. Most of the changes were reasonable however and Everlark’s chemistry was amazing. The beach scene is the best moment of all movies. The entire Quell was great and the standout.

3. Mockingjay Pt. 1 = 3

4. Mockingjay Pt. 2 = 3

I actually never saw the Mockingjay movies until they were on Netflix last year and I can barely remember anything 😭. But I ultimately think they’re better than the first movie. Good, solid 3.

Overall with the Trilogy movies, I think they are really good acting wise and effects/production, but they aren’t the best adaptations of the overall story. I also love the books so much I’ll always be picky about the movies.

Gonna add in TBOSAS –

I’m gonna give it a 4.25 even though I like Catching Fire more. I think it’s casted really well from lead roles to minor roles. I was disappointed in some changes, like lessening the roles of Coriolanus’s classmates (particularly Clemensia and Lyssie). I don’t like how they killed everyone with the snakes lmao. Especially Reaper, though I loved that they had him speak to really get the point across to audiences that didn’t read the book and for that reason I thought it was unnecessary to make him have some sacrificial death. Ngl they dragged out the actual games a bit more than needed when the before and after the games is more interesting to me.

I wish they delved more into Sejanus individually and his relationship with Coriolanus. I love Sejanus so much 🥺. Overall though I think the changes made sense to make the story more digestible and clear to movie audiences. I feel less attached the book so I’m more lenient towards the movie adaptation. I could care less about Snowbaird, but I think TBOSAS is the most thought-provoking book of the series. I think they their best to get the point across. Though I really do hate that because of the movies people have given Snow excuses for his actions and try to justify the very toxic relationship he has with Lucy.

Won't Fall In Love At The End- 2

I 100% did not abandon this story for two months, all accusations of me doing that are completely false.

Rana mostly forgets about Asher as she moves through the rest of the school day, the excitement of having a fake-partner lost as her focus shifts to derivatives and then Shakespeare and then the civil war. She barely thinks about them again until she passes them in the hallway on her way to the bus and they smile and wave at her. Once she finds her seat on the bus and puts on her headphones until the painful chatter of the students around her is mostly drowned out, she pulls out her phone and opens it to her group chat.

Me 2:12 PM

So... I have a date for homecoming!

The reply is immediate. Rana knows Eva has art club after school on Tuesdays, but she must not be paying much attention, because she responds faster than Rana can even type.

Love story for the ages

There. Nothing in her story was false. Sure, she left out the part where they agreed this entire relationship would be fake... but Rana doesn't want her friends to know this point. They're so excited that she's in a relationship. It would disappoint them if they knew it wasn't real. And Rana wants them to be proud of her. She doesn't want to go back to hearing them talk about how she should just get a partner already, because she was missing out on something so great.

She'll fake date Asher, and her friends will be happy, and then soon she'll know what it's like to date someone, but without the pressure of an actual relationship. This is the best possible outcome, she reminds herself; Aziza and Eva have stopped pressuring her, but she doesn't have to pretend to like someone she doesn't, at least not to their face.

But still, she doesn't like lying to her friends.

The bus arrives at her stops, which mercifully lets her stop texting her friends about her imaginary romance life, and she silently curses the weather for the entirety of her five minute walk to her house. It's October. Who gave it the right to be so warm in October?

She means to start her homework right after eating a snack, but mysteriously ends up falling down a wikipedia rabbit hole about lizards instead. In her defense, lizards are more interesting than physics. (At least, the rabbit hole starts with lizards. Specifically, bearded dragons. Eventually, the links lead her to reptiles, and then dinosaur evolution. All of those things are also more interesting than physics.)

The homework gets done eventually, although Rana spends the entire time wishing she could do literally anything else. At least once it's over, she can watch Netflix without the looming guilt of procrastination, and then she can sleep at a (semi) reasonable hour.

And then it's morning, and it's annoyingly dark as she walks from her house to the bus stop. And the bus is somehow even louder than usual, and it's crowded and all the people are packed tightly in this yellow vehicular hell, and when she finally does get to school she has a listening assignment in her first period Spanish class which she hates because she has to figure out what the people are saying without a transcript or subtitles or anything, which is hard enough in English let alone in a foreign language, so all in all, her day has been fairly shitty so far.

At lunch, the cafeteria is filled with noise, hundreds of students all talking over each other. The smell of overly greasy pizza is overpowering. Eva and Aziza don't have this lunch period anyway, so there's no need for Rana to be in this stupid cafeteria. She's on her way to the library when she notices Asher, pushing a door open. They wave at her, and she walks over.

"We're eating outside," they say. "Want to join?"

Outside. Outside is much better than the cafeteria. And it's probably better than going to the library, since if she goes outside she can actually eat. According to her therapist, it's "bad" to skip meals. Or whatever. "Okay," she says.

Asher smiles and holds the door for her as she walks through. It's still too warm for October, but Rana guesses she doesn't mind, since she wouldn't want to eat outside in the cold and she already decided eating outside was probably the healthiest option for her. The table outside has a few other people Rana knows. Abigail, Eva's long time crush. Daniel, who was Rana's lab partner in chemistry last year. Xavier, who Rana knows next to nothing about, but has been in school with since sixth grade. Everyone else looks familiar, but she can't assign them a name.

Asher finds a seat and gestures for Rana to sit next to them. "This is Rana," they say to the others at the table. "She's my fake girlfriend."

They told their friends it was fake, Rana notes. That's strange. It shouldn't be surprising, since most people are honest with their friends, but... she kind of expected Asher to be in the same "lying to your friends so they stop getting on your case about dating" situation as she is.

"You have terrible taste in fake partners," Xavier says, and Asher flips them off, and they all laugh.

By the end of lunch, Rana's day is considerably less shitty, and she's decided she likes Asher's friends. And Asher themself.

She's not totally sure why she doesn't like Asher in "that way," whatever that means. They're great. But actually dating them? She would really rather not.

Whatever. It's fine.

If she focuses more on calculus, she can stop thinking about the fact that her heart probably doesn't work like everyone else's.

i haven’t read the novel but some friends have and i’m a bit wary about the false harassment accusation ngl. it feels like that’s being used as a plot point all too frequently in recent years (so recent in fact as to be used in mujhe pyaar hua tha) and at a time when that kind of reception isn’t going to be really helpful in the public sphere i fear what the success of a plot like this may convey. but since you read the novel what do you think about it?

i don't know how this current cast will be able to fit in the story of the novel. like..i just cannot.

anyway SPOILERS AHEAD SO WHATEVER.

anyway...the major themes of the story were more about sibling rivalry and strained relationship between parents and children. both Sikandar and Liza, the protagonists, ended up having a tensed relationship with their fathers not due to fault of their own. Liza was essentially brainwashed by her sister to hate her father because she wanted to remain the only favorite child of her father. Sikandar ended up becoming the target of his father's anger and disgust that ultimately led to the tragedy that befell him. the story then becomes a story of healing from the traumas family can inflict on you. the false harassment accusation angle is a significant part of it but it's not the big bad evil here. like the accusation wouldn't have stood a chance had Zain not already nurse a one-sided hatred for his brother that had him trusting his girlfriend of few months over his own one true brother of 20 years. if not the accusation then something else would've been the reason Zain would've used to torment his brother.

also honestly, considering Maryam's character, the false harassment accusation is the least of her evils. she's shown to be a highly manipulative sociopath with daddy issues so potent that she didn't even spare her own mother phir Sikandar kya cheez hai? iirc when she's just a teenager she seduces her step father and ends up getting pregnant. while she's in school she gets involved in a sexual relationship with her teacher who she then ends up getting fired once she gets annoyed of his chipkuness. Sikandar is just one of her many targets. even until the present we see her as being involved in illicit affairs with men with no regard to anything else. she becomes so used to getting away with her actions that she doesn't even realize that her father, the one man she truly loved, was already aware of her actions and was only being silent because he was hoping and praying for her to repent. it is only when Maryam threatens Liza's relationship with Sikandar that their father steps in and forbids her from even daring to try that.

personally I think Maryam's character is the meatiest role of the story following Sikandar considering how twisted she is and by Pakistani drama standards, how utterly scandalous. JBHSSL would never work for TV cuz our sensitive audience wouldn't have been able to digest that. whoever ends up getting that role has the opportunity to give a truly strong performance provided the script and direction support the original story.

so yeah..i don't think the existence of JBHSSL will have any drastic impact on the landscape of PakDramas that will end up promoting the false accusation storyline more so than it already is. that damage was done by whatever that Sana Javed drama was that came at the worst time possible during peak MeToo era. at least with JBHSSL there's no doubt left by the end that Maryam was a vile and evil woman with a history of ruining lives and relationships without any remorse. also it's on Netflix so like konnn hi itna dekhega Pakistan mein where the majority of the audience watches stuff free on Youtube?

personally i am an aroace wednesday truther i’m ngl, like she doesn’t show any interest in anyone (that’s kind of her whole thing) and the few times she does it’s out of obligation (or manipulation but we don’t talk about that #girlboss). and as much as i hate love triangles with pasty guys this one definitely wasn’t the worst one i’ve seen, esp bc it never really played into the “oh no who do i choose” thing since. again. she never really showed interest in either of them it was just these two guys being into this awesome unique girl (as they should). wenclair is cute and i could appreciate the ship (same w wednesday and bianca) but i see them as more of a qpr, if they were to be a canon romantic relationship though, i would still be overjoyed bc i would never think netflix would opt for that. if wednesday does have to end up with a love interest (which. she shouldn’t. she very obviously does not want or need one) i would want it to be xavier just bc tyler is. so so fucked up i do not understand anyone who can watch the entire season and their only takeaway is to ship wednesday and tyler, it makes me want to throw up in my mouth. plus i feel like wednesday and xavier would get each other more (as long as they actually flesh out xavier’s character, he’s got a lot of potential please don’t let him be pasty for eternity). but anyway. aroace wednesday for life baybee

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? Pelle and Dorian both are absolutely comfort characters for me. I was playing DA:I during a pretty bad time in my life (when I came outta the closet) and I really resonated with Dorian at the time what with having strict parents and feeling very alone and unaccepted. Pelle was originally me fooling around putting an OC i had into DA and he became entirely his own character over the years and now he's here for the long haul.

is there anything you don’t like to write? Not really tbh. I do think I'm pretty shit at describing environments so maybe I dont like writing it but it isn't a strong hate thing.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? Romance. Listen it tickles my brain just right. Even if it's like gut wrenching unrequited love or a bad relationship I still love it.

Jjba Stardust Crusaders Ep. 9-15 thoughts

Ep. 9

It's a bit boring tbh. It's a Jotaro episode, and I'm gonna be honest, I don't think Jotaro can carry an episode by himself. He's fun when he is with the rest of the cast, but kind of boring otherwise? I don't really hate him or anything. I just wish a bit more out of his solo episodes

Ep. 10

Finally some good fucking conflict baby!! This is when Polnareff became a vivid character in my mind. Polnareff trying to fight the Hanged Man alone and Advol being the most upset by it the most makes sense for them. I guess Advol feels a bit betrayed because he has a lot of respect for the guy.

Polnareff gives a flimsy reason why him going alone is a good thing but you can tell later that he knows this is objectively the worse choice deep down, he is just too angry to care. Everyone knows this. Advol is the only one who thinks he can force him to not go (which does speak to his "holier than thou" additude a bit).

Later when Polnareff's arrogance bites him in the ass it's Advol who comes in to help him first. Polnareff saying this was to lecture him or prove him wrong is not entirely untrue. I'm sure that was a part of it. Ultimately though the main reason is because he doesn't wanna see him die. That's what I think, at least.

I was mad that they killed Advol early but I saw him in the thumbnail of some episodes later scrolling thru Netflix so uhh. We get to have more Advol later :D idk how tho.

This was around the time when I went in to check out the dub. I would have loved the dub for the first two parts if it weren't for the stupid. fucking. accents. This part doesn't have em. The dub's great y'all I reccomend it for sure. Also I swear I heard Advol's va somewhere else before.

Ep. 11

Another good episode for characterizetion, for Polnareff and Kakyoin this time. I'm glad the Joestars weren't in these episodes. Shrinking down the cast sometimes is good, builds their interpersonal relationships. One thing I'm worried about is how many Polnareff episodes we have gotten, I hope he doesn't die early.

Anyways, fight scenes were great. I especially like the shot where Polnareff gets his ass saved again. By Kakyoin this time.

I like Kakyoin a lot in this episode. He is definitely the guy with the most emotional intelligence. Back and forth between him trying to talk some sense into Polnareff vs Hol and the Hanged man taunting him was good.

I also like how he waits to get out of danger before breaking Polnareff's nose. That's some emotional maturity right there.

Now that Polnareff has calmed down, we can focus on defeating the stand users again.

Kakyoin repeating Polnareff's linea to him when they cornered is nice. It reminds me of how he said "I don't really know why myself" when the crew asked why he wanted to join them. Fun little detail.

Another detail is the crowd's faces wehn Joseph and Jotaro find Advol's body. I couldn't find a good place to mention that.

I should also mention Hol Horse. He is a cowboy. His stand is a gun. His last name is just Horse. When faced with the people he is suppose to kill he just runs away. He also steals the crew's car at some point. I would kill to see him and Dio interact. Truly one of the jjba characters of all time.

Ngl I ugly laughed at him running away at the end. They animated it so well too and for what.

Ep. 12

It was about time we got a Joseph episode.

Polnareff is tying to give Nena some advice about love and shit and he is just. not getting thru to her. This episode is when Polnareff officially became the silly one of the group.

I'm glad to see Joseph be his BT self again. Predicting people's lines and all. Sure, age has made him weaker (evenho he is still absolutely built), but it shouldn't make him stupider. I wish we saw his intelligence at play, outside of this episode.

Hermit purple is a cool stand and seeing it get utilized is always a treat.

This is the first time they show Hamon doesn't work on stands i think? I sort of assumed that was the case but this confirms it. Even with that, Hamon still has a lot of utility. It's weird to see Joseph not use it.

I guess the SPW foundation cleared his record after this. Honestly, I have no idea what they would to without it. Where would we be if it wasn't for Speedwagon's huge crush on Jonathan.

Ep. 13

This is one of my favourite "stand user of the day" episode so far. The stand is fucking sick, the group has good chemistry together. From Polnareff being and idiot to Jotaro and Kakyoin's banter.

My main complaint is that they brought the girl back. I sang praises about her earlier and they took that personally ig. She is only in this episode too. I just don't see the point. Did she need to have a crush on him? One thing I liked about her was seeing Jotaro interact with a stranger that 1. didn't try to kill him 2. Wasn't smitten by him. She leaves after this so it doesn't even matter tham much but y'know.

Ep 14 and 15

I joked about the fog being a stand earlier i didn't think they'd actually go for it. It's definitely a creative one.

Is Polnareff not knowing the stand user and trying to befrend them gonna be a trend? I'm here for it 100%.

Something about Jotaro referencing Columbo delights me.

I don't have much to say about these two episodes. I found them pretty entertaining but not much to note about. Other than Polnareff licking the toilet.

And this is it i'm pretty sure. These take a lot of time to write but I like journaling my thoughts. Mostly for myself, aslo for my 3 mutuals.

We'll probably get a Kakyoin episode soon. He hasn't used his main stand ability at all since episode 2. I get why, but it's a bit of a shame.

So randomly spewed thoughts on Moxie (2021) for anyone who cares. This likely contains spoilers. Also a trigger warning for sexual assault mentions in the eighth bullet point.

Bro this ain't funny, the cast in this really drove this movie home, istg.

There's something inherently Netflix about it. There were seriously cringy quotes in there, and it's this bullshit I hear that "it's a teen movie, teenagers are cringy" no and no. Just because teenagers are cringy doesn't mean the movie has to be. Also, even if they are, they should be recognized as cringy, not portrayed as quotable.

Really liked the almost sex-scene with Vivian and Seth, because finally, a pop culture guy that's not a complete horn dog and is actually genuinely careful and good and nice and loving.

Generally, I know it wasn't about him, but Seth in this movie oh my god.

I hated the false attempt at inclusivity. I'm not talking about race related topics, even though all the things that were mentioned that were race related, were completely surface level. I'm talking about that disabled character that was completely decorative and the way all these black women were used to further Vivian's plot and how there was one wlw kiss which was brushed off and then the characters involved were never seen together again. I don't mean in a relationship. I mean in the same frame, alone.

This is still about a white girl discovering feminism.

However I did like how in the end she stepped back and let the rest talk.

The whole rape thing felt forced and sudden and really counteracted the weight of the rest of the movie. Which is to say, either this movie wasn't heavy enough to support it, or that was too heavy to be mentioned in passing. The affect that confession had on Vivian was barely shown and I'm honestly bummed about it, because can you imagine what it would be like to get an anonymous letter from someone confessing that they've been raped, because they think you'll be the only person willing to listen? If you go there, you have to GO there. Not brush it off with a bunch of women screaming their frustration out and then bam, pish, we're good here. Really kind of understated the trauma.

The way casual sexism was shown was incredible, realistic and accurate. Really well done. I have either gone through the stuff shown, or know people that have. No drama or funfair. Good fuckin job.

That screaming scene? Felt. Kinda like they just wanted to make an iconic scene. Again. Liked the idea. Mediocre execution.

The wardrobe. Really good. Music? Excellent.

That scene at the thrift store. Very fun. Very realistic. Still a bit weird bc boomers writing for gen zers is always uncomfortable and not quite right, but this was pretty close, I really saw myself there. Really nice.

What the FUCK was that date with Seth, where they picked their caskets and laid in one listening to music??? Netflix's gotta netflix I guess. More soft boys and manic pixie dream girls. So unnecessary. I would much rather them be in a field and just talking or even Seth teaching her how to skateboard or some shit idk. Not that crap that felt more John Green than anything I've ever fuckin seen and genuinely didn't fit these characters.

Just feminism? I guess? But attempted to be contained in a lighthearted movie? I liked the structure and how it wasn't about a straight romance alone, it was mostly about forming friendships and fighting for something important, but also, some of these characters felt really weird and not particularly fleshed out, while the movie felt like an attempt to be epic and iconic, but missing the target by a couple of inches.

It was fun ngl. Nice to look at. I honestly like it. I just don't think it's flawless.

hilary listen the old guards slayed me. I mean the plot the pacing the writing the acting?? the diversity that didn’t feel like lip service? tHAT ENDING??? Charlize Theron also knocked it out off the park. like the bone weary fatigue that comes with seeing too much and for too long could’ve been played as that snarky cynical and jaded god. but she dIDNT. and it was such an impactful and nuanced performance. Agh I’m running out of characters gdi moving over to another ask (1/2)

ALSO BOOKER. I fucking love when they make a characters actions reasonable. like the man is clearly depressed. he’s tired and he wants some sort of agency back in the face of devastating loss over and over again. like waiting for your friends to heal themselves each time they die?? my god that amount of stress has to get to you at some point. which also lends to this self-awareness and surety among all of the characters (especially Nicky omg Nicky you beautiful cinnamon roll). GDI no space (2/3)

RIGHT. Nicky! what a compassionate but ruthlessly efficient solider (also that part near the end where he puts the gun over his shoulder for joe to take was kinda hot ngl). the juxtaposition is so interesting and compelling and we see it throughout the movie with all of the characters too. even their relationship as a team. it’s odd because they’re really professional with each other but still choose to be a family from the get go. it’s even more profound when you think about it (NO SPACE Y) 3/4

because that’s the one thing they truly have a choice over. they’re going to see these 4 people for the rest of their long longgg lives and they can very easily say no. I’ll find others and lose them but I refuse to be forced to get stuck with you instead of someone else. they don’t though and such props to the writer who didn’t go down that traditional path of conflict. aggghh I could on about how andy didn’t die either but I’m running out of space Again and have spammed you enough lolollll

It was as if ye olde Netflix Powers Thatte Be said “look we know 2020 has been a flaming hellpit dumpster of Why God Why, so we’re gonna give the gays everything they want”

There was world-weary ancient Greek warrior short-haired lesbian Charlize Theron (that scene with the hot French pharmacy lady tenderly patching up her shoulder in the bathroom and the obvious sexual tension was SO UNNECESSARY BUT ALSO COMPLETELY NECESSARY GOD BLESS THE FILMMAKERS!) She has lost her equally hot and badass wife and there was Angst and Feelings and now we have Drama with said wife returning from the sea floor and I don’t know what’s gonna happen but my body is ready and I need the sequel immediately.

There were Joe and Nicky, the most beautiful devoted interracial/interreligious mlm immortal husbands who are still completely gaga for each other after hundreds of years, there are absolutely no gay “jokes” or even any calling attention to their status, they whup ass and they make out in front of stormtroopers because why not get you a man who can do both. We have already discussed the fact that I am Deep down the rabbit hole for them.

There was Nile (NILE! I WOULD DIE FOR YOU!) the most PRECIOUS immortal bean, who is a Black woman who literally cannot be shot down, who takes the hits from the military (DON’T THINK I DID NOT NOTICE THAT THE US ARMY WAS ALSO GOING TO PUT HER IN A CAGE/INSTITUTION ONCE THEY FOUND OUT ABOUT HER) and from the white supremacist violence but GETS BACK UP EVERY TIME BECAUSE THEY CANNOT STOP HER WITH THEIR USUAL MINDLESS STATE SPONSORED MACHINE GUNS. She gets to rescue the whole team like a BADASS and go into the lab with the action-hero angles almost ALWAYS received by the Hard Bitten White Man, she gets to tackle the main villain off the top of a goddamn skyscraper and walk away from it while he’s dead, she is nonetheless Sweet and Vulnerable and in need of Protection so she gets to be BOTH the damsel in distress and the hero and I just... I have a lot of feelings about Nile okay.

Even the Hard Bitten White Man we did get, i.e. Booker, is the guy who makes painful choices and is driven by the pain of having to watch his children die and yet also still displays emotions and cares for his other family and awfully regrets what he did to hurt them (and when he realizes Andy’s not healing he PANICS) and now he’s met Quynh and oh the dramaaaa.

I VERY MUCH NOTICED THE CIA AND BIG PHARMA/AN INSUFFERABLE KNOW IT ALL RICH BRITISH WHITE MAN BEING THE VILLAINS UNDER CLAIMING TO DO “GOOD.” THANK YOU. (And good on you Chiwetel Ejiofor, I knew you wouldn’t let Dudley Dursley actually get away with it)

THE ADVENTURES ACROSS HISTORY TO BE! GOOD! PEOPLE! NOT GRIMDARK POINTLESS ANNIHILATION! THEIR HEROISM MEANS SOMETHING IN THE END!!!

honestly, when you both first met he would’ve been a bit closed off like he is with everyone he first meets

but the fact that he finds you so easy to talk to is one of the things that brought you closer.

i feel like, for Megumi, being heard and understood is super important to him and the fact that you do that and want him to feel that way, is something he really appreciates from you

he really loves the fact that your blunt and not afraid to say whats on your mind, because he’s pretty much the same way. he doesn’t like things being sugarcoated, he tells it as it is 😤✊

and because of that i feel like your relationship would be very open. you wouldnt keep any secrets, and you feel like you could tell each other anything. and Megumi really appreciates that, because there’s not many people he’s really open with from what ive seen

i feel like he also would like domestic fluffy situations so for dates, it wouldnt be anything overly extravagant. maybe just chilling in his or your dorm, listening to music or playing video games. Maybe a nice walk out in the town and to a little cafe for a drink. I feel like nothing would really matter much, setting-wise, for dates. as long as you spend time together thats what matters most.

Oh my lord- if you offered to mess with gojo with him, or just say something back when gojo’s annoying him- Megumi would get down on one knee and whip out a ring faster than you could ever blink. Gojo gets on his fuckin NERVES so he think it would be fun to give him a taste of his own medicine every now and then (to spice it up, get itadori and nobara in on it too)

He would definitely love your artsy side tbh, if your working on something while you’re relaxing together with him, he would probably rest his head on your shoulder, silently observing and admiring what your doing.

He’s amazing at handling more serious situations bc he’s a pretty serious dude on the outside. when he notices that your uncomfortable or stressing over a situation like that, he would have no problem stepping in or helping you out, depending on the situation

he loves that you have a sense of humor though, your one of the only people that can genuinely make him laugh (and it kinda gives you an ego boost, rightfully so)

i feel like the way he would express his love and feelings to you is through acts of service and verbal affirmations. He finds you easy to talk to so expressing his love through words is easier for him when it comes to you. he isn’t sappy about it though, just a casual “I love you” or a “you look really nice today”

He loves to help you out with anything you need help with. you ask him for it? done and done no questions asked.

I feel like he would really care about your well being in general too. he would probably make sure you drank water everyday and that you eat and sleep good.

when he goes off for missions he likes to bring you back little gifts every so often.

he finds your sarcasm so funny dude you have no idea.

especially when you use it towards gojo or itadori, mans has to hold himself back or he’ll bust our laughing.

just like he loves your honesty, he also loves the fact that your not afraid to stand up for yourself if need be.

Shadow and Bone Trilogy Book Review

Long, rambling, sometimes-capslock thoughts on the Shadow and Bone trilogy, having just a couple of hours ago finished reading the trilogy of Shadow and Bone, Seige and Storm and Ruin and Rising.

MALYEN ORETSEV IS TOO PURE FOR THIS WORLD AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.

Fair warning: Major spoilers for the whole series and ending, entire focus on Mal/Alina 😅 I apologise for nothing.

I THINK THIS MIGHT BE THE FIRST TIME I’VE EXPERIENCED A SHIP I REALLY LOVE HAVE A HAPPY ENDING. Hooooooly shit. It feels good.

Leigh Bardugo really served up everything I want to see! Give me all the tropes! All the angst! All the longing! AND with a happy ending?! *chef’s kiss*

I’m shook.

It feels amazing that for once in my life, something I ship has finally finished front and centre and I am absolutely here for it!

So let’s first clarify that I went in to the books just after finishing S1 of the Netflix show, already head over heels in love with Mal/Alina and rooting for them the whole way through. They are the reason I read the books. In the stories that I enjoy, I value love above all other aspects of the story; it’s just who I am.

The Pain of Siege and Storm

I admit, about 50% of this trilogy and the majority of Book 2 and early Book 3 was me in pain just wondering why they couldn’t be together and why they kept pushing each other away. Book 2 was an emotional rollercoaster ngl. I was frustrated that they spent so much time being miserable around eachother but were never allowed to be happy or give in to their feelings? They are best friends. Mal wants to support her. LET HIM SUPPORT HER. Let her confide in him and find comfort in him.

Endgame? Not Endgame?

This went on in a similar vein for some time and towards the end of Book 3, I was getting increasingly worried they weren’t endgame and this was indeed all leading up to Mal ultimately sacrificing himself... which obviously did happen...

But when Alina says “Bring him back to me.”, I just thought “THANK YOU. VINDICATION. THIS IS WHAT HAPPINESS FEELS LIKE.” and I knew we were home and dry and my god it felt good.

But I was so happy with the ending. It’s exactly what I wanted to happen, though I didn’t expect it... AND THEN IT HAPPENED. For them to go back to how they were and live the rest of their days in quiet happiness. Neither of them asked for this. They just belonged with eachother.

The last line of the book:

They had an ordinary life, full of ordinary things - if love can ever be called that.

HAPPY SIGH. YES.
