so there are a few big chunks of story so far, fortunately one of my special interests is taxonomy and i have a fetish for project management [1].

basically two main eras:

- a youngish high school + summer camp setting [late teens/twenties]. most of the aesthetics here are from that part of the setting, which has a lot of ~magical stuff beyond the heart of camp.

and! an undead hospital drama, including Nurse Jim from the camp health centre.

most of the events concerning the aesthetics described in this paper [I'll lean into it, eh] take place at the summer camp through Nurse Jim's adventures leading camping trips with Mick.[5]

[5] tbh, that does kinda let me fold those two jobs into one - it seems pretty cromulent that the health centre would assign someone like Nurse Jim on long trips

hmm..... how about... broadening the worldbuilding horizons a lil with some of the filler Iterators. here's the list of names that i'm slowly workin on to develop into enough of people for my tastes

most well defined of these rn are: Orion, Spore, Gem, Expiation, Rustle, NAE NAE BITCH (Embrace), Vapor and kind of Sadness

with Presence being... finished on account of literally being just IKEA memes the Iterator. that was sister's idea, not mine jglksdmcklsd he's a hippie during the day, creepy fuck during the night. one never knows what's goin on with him, but he's usually sweet n helpful. probably stands in dark hallways with a knife in hand right next to Notos tho. it also has a knife in hand

Orion's Pathway is slowly gaining on importance and characterization!

(quick concept doodle, very much subject to change yet but the mark is most likely gon stay)

he's the 3rd eldest Iterator of the Eo group, finished and brought online about 190 years (Or Honestly More, Fuckers Big n it is all very early on yet) after Boreas' construction. bein the Third means he actually got to socialize with Boreas' antisocial bum (and Zephyr too). all of the Iterator social business that Boreas doesn't wanna deal with he throws at This Kid until Euros comes around. then the two get to share Boreas' "i really don't wanna do this, here you kids go" shit

Orion might look all cool and stuff, but the idea of him wasn't actually even born out of the constellation/myth originally! the idea and also color palette all (will) come from the czech chocolate by the same name

fuckin Love this shit. and just like Orion Chocolate Shop's milk chocolate, Orion's Pathway is a sweet, soft kid that is just a delight to interact with. unlike Boreas, he's an actual angel without any blemishes. he's like the Prince Charming (cinderella 3) of the Iterators... he looks up to ol' Bee a lot <3 his voice claim is Ebucs as of rn

which is Important cuz this darling fucker actually has lore that is very location specific

he serves as something of a physical border/something of a custom office(???) to the Frost's Promise group. works well with how much of a geographical choke point that there is. originally, this wasn't the case including his whole helmet look, but if u caught the whisper of that one war with Iterators in it that i mentioned, then this was it. that changed Orion from a regular Iterator to something of a border guard. the war was between the Ancients of the Eo group and the Frost's Promise group. it happened in the first quarter of Gen 2 ages, so Fish was already around but not Euros

he doesn't actually have a sword n a shield with his puppet, that is mostly mural and such stuff, but the helmet was added to make him look inspiring to his citizens n intimidating to the enemy whenever his image would be projected for whatever reason

he's also something of an old school Phone Operator and had the unofficial title of being the Chief of it just because of his age. after Euros shows up and gets the full hang of the communication systems + handling of the Aeolus Root, most of all Orion's Phone Operator privilages are stripped from him ("oh thank the void." he says, overworked and tired and so excited to get some time for himself. this little hyperactive red fuck is gonna handle it all Just Fine)

stuff for some other filler Iterators:

• Spore's whole thing was that she was originally meant to be one of the first medicine focused Iterator facilities. her placement in the shroom place was done on purpose because as we all know shrooms can get a lil funny in the RW universe. this went wrong though, when the spores of the shrooms got into her systems and started parasiting on her neurons similarly to cordyceps with ants. that is what those jellyfish lookin things stuck on her are!! parasitic neurons already tryin to take her over

a big part of Mission Self-preservation in her case was saving her from the fate that we see her succumbed to at the start of the Ascending Notos comic - her voice claim is something like... Fluttershy but with a Minion from Despicable Me effect/feel to it??? this is the real blorbo of the Eo group fuck everybody else • this is NAE. NAE is a bastard

often bitches about how stupid his name is. then two weeks after the Mass Ascension his arms just kinda Fall Off and he's like "OOOOOH. OOOOOOOOH. *OOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!* WELL *SOME-FUCKING-BODY* IS GIGGLING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THEIR VOID STAINED BATHTUB, AREN'T THEY. Euros likes annoying him a lot • Gem in an Eye is going to be based off of a witch a lil, she's gonna do shit with ✨ crystals ✨ (she's an asshole) • Sordid Expiation will be based off of a nun and will be bitchily religious (unlike Fish who is funnily religious- he's like a conspiracy theorist while Expiation is all serious bleeeeegh boooooo 👎) - Gem and Expiation have a playful rivarly going on, crystals vs religion. with Spore in the friend group, medicine joins in, but when she gets worse with those parasitic shrooms she stops joining in on the play-arguments • Raspy Rustle's voice claim is AnnenMayKantereit and he is a Sweetheart. he and Reed get mistaken for each other often because of the initials n they might end up havin similar chat clrs too. both find it very funny • Vapor is based around the vaporwave aesthetic and is Notos' neighbour. so you have this goth bitch who doesn't care for attention and right next to it is this pastel neon chillax'd music star who cares a LOT for attention (like that one meme with the houses...). her mark is that vaporwave sun and it's splattered all over her face instead of just on the forehead • Sadness is based off of Sad Machine by Porter Robinson- her clr palette will be sampled from the album cover n her voice claim is That song as well. she's closeby to Fish and Likes Writing Poems :')

Weekly Update - 05/18/2023

Hey all! I think I'm going to start doing weekly updates since I have a lot going on and a lot of fics in the works! I want you to know what I'm currently working on (WIPs) and I'll also toss some life updates in here as well. I'm also going to mention requests I have in the pipeline and when I'm expecting to complete them. Maybe your request is in there! (It probably is)

Going forward the updates will be on Sunday, I'm just doing this now because I have ADHD and it's on my mind today lol.

Since I've been really following the winds of inspiration lately, I want to keep doing that so I'm just putting this here so you know where the winds are blowing lmao.

I'll also mention if I think my current longfic is going to be delayed or anything here as well.

Currently I'm working on A Bit Dodgy, as many of you know. There will NOT be an update this Monday (05/22/2023). Though I will be working on it this week for @welcometostayingawake to edit and I'll have it to post by 05/29/2023 (that's the goal). If it's going to be pushed back again, I'll let you all know the Sunday before (05/28/2023).

Mini-series Update

Worth the Risk Part 3 should be out this week. That's the goal anyway. I have a good chunk of it done but there's still a lot to do. <- Still hoping to have this out this week but we will see (05/22/2023)

There's a top secret fic series coming out HOPEFULLY this weekend, but it may be next weekend instead depending on how quickly I can get it finished. I'm losing my mind over it. In June there's a writing challenge for Pride that @flightlessangelwings is putting on and I'm working on my fic for that so I'll be announcing more for that fic once I have the details better outlined!

Fool Me Twice should be getting a part 2 soon. I'm hoping I'll feel inspired to at least start it this week but maybe not. <- Taking this off the list for this week. Focusing on ABD and requests (05/22/2023).

Still considering doing 2 other parts for The OJ Problem but honestly, it's not that exciting to me rn. Since it's more of a Valentine's Day fic I might consider just doing those next year. <- Taking this off the list for this week. !! hello! this is so sweet, i will forever be happy that people are interested in my stories : ] esp @ this AU in particular! it's definitely been my most favorite one to work with - i've been yelling about it with friends in dms for like, a little under a year now?? it's a big story! lots of backstory and worldbuilding to do! lots of inside jokes to make!

sadly i can't reveal TOO much - not as much as i want to anyway. i mean it took this long for me to even reveal the NAME! but i can offer a little rundown for some newcomers and…oldcomers idfk

this is an AU where rymin are born in modern era: the train crashed in 1986, but the story takes place in 2021

min boarded the train in september 2016 and has been on the train for approx. 5 years - he is 23 by the time the events of the fic start

rymin haven't seen each other since ryan left powell lake, and min presumes ryan went off to pursue their dreams in NYC without him and is probably living it up Rockstar Style and he's very normal about that

ryan is transmasc in this AU, and it'll play a very, Very crucial role in the story + rymin's early dynamic (just comphet things: your parents ship you together and you don't like it!)

min joined the apex, which has disbanded by this time in the story. he didn't Do Crimes though - in fact, his number hasn't changed at all since he woke up in the iceberg car with kez! weird

min traveled to the left of the train

there's a lot of stupid denizens i made just to make min have a mental whiplash every chapter

there's about four (4) different monsters to watch out for. humans not included - kinda

it's a survival/psychological horror (duh) with a focus on codependency, generational/secondhand trauma, perspective, and forgiveness.

(and body horror.)

you could guess some of these from my playlist, but huge inspirations for the story are silent hill 2, layers of fear, observer (2017), jj macfield and the island of memories, the last of us, and on a semi-lighter note cowboy bebop and that one time a league of legends song came up on my playlist and i couldn't figure out if it was a hero or a villain's song

anyway. chapters 1-2 are all finished (just workin on illustrations w buds rn) and 3 is currently on its second draft! i'll release it probably a week after the final paper trails chapter, which will be HOPEFULLY soon! i've just got some Secret Stuff for it…

long answer: it’s basically a mix of those movies being a centerpiece of my childhood and me just thinking pirates are cool SKJSKAj i’m very much into history n my uni had a course on ‘history of pirates’ last spring so i took it as smth to do during quarantine and i ended up really loving it !!! i’m actually workin on historical fiction short story abt anne bonny and mary read rn which required me to do a lot more research on pirates (under the black flag by david cordingly is a very good book on piracy!) and my research has been very interesting just in general and for writing the odyssey – i've incorporated little historical tidbits here n there to add to the world-building :’)

while i have a pretty good idea of how many chapters it will be and where the odyssey ends, i usually don’t plan a chapter in super great detail until it’s time to sit down n write it. i have general points of people to include + things that would be important to the plot + vibes i hope to include (parts 6 and 7 r gonna SLAP!!), but these never get fleshed out until it’s Time. my outlines are therefore usually not very detailed because i like to give the odyssey room to do its own thing – i find it important that the story takes its time and we get to the important stuff whenever it wants us to. an outline will usually b something like, in the case of the furies call part 2: 

find megumi, talk abt his role in the zenin clan – naoya arrives on shore and shit hits the fan – run to find mai, maki fights her father – fight between naoya and todou – todou dies because you can’t kill naoya – sukuna rescues reader and it ends

after i have smth that looks like this as well as a decently clear idea of how everything will look and feel we get started!!

2. writing (pain)

arguably the worst stage for any creator! writing! at this point i genuinely just let go and let god tbh. i have no idea how i do things at this stage other than see how many commas + dumb poetic phrases i can include SKKSJKA – sometimes things just happen and it’s really cool!! for example in part 4 i didn’t know the guns warehouse was going to blow up until i was writing it and it just happened 

i do have a set quota of words i meet every time i sit down to write so that i A. feel accomplished and happy when i'm done, even if it sucks and B. don’t get burnout and start hating what i do. this stage is always difficult because writing is just hard and takes a lot of brainpower and self-discipline </3

i wld say the hardest part is that i run the risk of getting very overwhelmed – by the complexities of the plot, by how fucking long it takes me to write, by how much work writing itself is ! for example, abt 7k or so into part 5 i started having the worst existential dread when i realized that this chapter was not even halfway done and i wld have to surpass 15k before it was (at the time of writing this, part 5 is 16.3 💀) it just gets hard sometimes to overcome that and maintain the motivation to keep going and know that everything will be fine when it’s done – thankfully everyone here is so patient and sweet so it makes me feel better when i'm taking forever and/or need time off <333

basically, as always, the pain of writing is just having to write and come to terms with the fact no one else is going to manifest it for u. and have fun too!! writing is only fun when ur writing what u think is cool 

3. revision (less pain)

one of the fun stages, but also the point when i start to become impatient! writing an odyssey chapter can easily take 2.5-3 weeks even if i'm writing my quota every single day (part 5 took roughly 3 weeks of writing every god damn afternoon) and after that i spend another few weeks just going back and rereading/fixing everything. 

i basically start by rereading sections of the chapter to change sentence structure, grammar, dialogue, or whatever else i don’t like – sometimes sentences sound stupid or certain things don’t make a whole lot of sense so i like to go back and polish up! for example i changed the arrival of maki/mai/nobara in furies call part 1 about ten times before i decided it made sense to me

this step can be horrendous because i'll often write things really shitty in the first draft with a “i’ll come back to this later” mindset and then get mad at myself later for being a hoe <//3

in essence, i'm a horrible perfectionist so i will usually reread everything and change or add things multiple times before i think i'm finally ready to share. most of the time, as the chapter gets closer and closer to completion i become more and more hyper-fixated on it – i’ll start spending almost all of my free time just rereading and looking for minor fixes or places that don’t vibe as well. 

at the end of this step, my favorite thing to do before i queue the chapter up to post is sit down and just read the entire thing once or twice and give it one last kiss before i send her off into the world <3

So I love writing. I have a story I'm workin on rn that I actually hope to publish someday. But I really wanna start really writing fanfics and sharing some over done in the past. But I'm so scared of how ppl will respond. I worry I don't get the characters quite right. Do you have any advice?

so first off - rule numero uno of being a writer is to try not to - EVER - worry about your audiences reaction to what you write. When you get too nervous about the judgment you’ll receive, you tend to write hyper-critically and you, YOURSELF, will become your worst and harshest judge. In the end, you’ll just end up hurting your own feelings.

And you👏deserve👏to be👏HAPPY👏

So just take a nice deep breath and tell yourself that:

“This book is supposed to be for me, but I’ll let everyone else read it too”

-and if one of your readers has a problem with the way you write or the way you portray a character(s), just remind yourself that you are doing your very best and they can go f*ck themselves otherwise.

for the actual advice.

If you’re still worried about how accurately you will portray the character(s) - here’s some things to help you get it as uncanny as possible.

+ study the way your favorite fanfic writers portray those same characters. Don’t be afraid to use them as inspiration.

+ study the actual characters themselves. Take note of the way they talk, their accent, body language, likes and dislikes, the way they react to certain things, etc.

+ practice a lil’ bit if you’d like. Write a few drabbles with those characters using writing prompts - and once you’re done - reread them and see how accurately you think you did. YOUR OPINION IS #1 OPINION. don’t forget that!

+ Get a beta reader’s opinion. Beta’s readers can be anyone close to you that you trust and respect. It’s usually helpful if they’re someone outside of your family as well, (unless you know that family member gives you genuine criticism). Ask your beta reader’s or (readers’) opinion on how accurately you think you did - or better yet - just ask if they just enjoyed it.

Don’t be overly stressed on how absolutely ACCURATE you are though because at the end of the day, satan isn’t going to come crawling out of hell for your soul if you even divert a centimetre out of character.

I've been thinking about doing a zine for a while but I'm not sure yet. Is there any advice you can give about zines for a newcomer to them?

As in participating in a zine, or making one? :o I wouldn’t know about moderating or making one but I can try my best to give some tips for participating!!

1. APPLY APPLY APPLY!! Even if you think you don’t stand a chance of getting in, apply anyways!! Often, the moderators can tell you about the areas of your work that could use improvement, and you may get into more zines than you think!! There’s nothing to be lost from applying c: (I’d also recommend applying to ones that hold at least a little amount of interest! That way you’re engaged with the project and it’s not a chore!)

2. Prepare a portfolio! I know it’s a pain, but it almost all zines will ask for a portfolio of your best pieces! From my experience, pieces with backgrounds or multiple characters interacting are really good! (if you’re applying for writing, I’m not sure how to help you there ^^’) If you’re using tumblr for your portfolio (which I do oop), it’d be the best to create a tag for your art in general, and a specific tag for a portfolio! 

3. Make a discord! Literally 99% of the zines I’ve been in REQUIRE discord as a means of communicating themes, feedback, check-ins, and schedules! You most likely won’t have to participate further than introducing yourself and saying hi!

4. Keep a calendar! You don’t gotta do this, but I’ve found it helps to keep track of things, especially since zines are long-term projects that often span months! And if you’re working on multiple zines, you’re probably gonna need that kinda time management ^^’ (as someone currently workin on like 13 zines rn and got more completed, I’m speaking from experience)

5. Take it at your own pace! I personally tend to chip away at a zine piece over the course of a few days to a few weeks, going from sketch to line art to color and then finishing everything off. But I also have zine friendos that like to everything at once in one fell swoop! Find your pace at which your work comfortably and with the least amount of stress! And probably try to only take on 1-2 zines until you’re acquainted with how the zine process goes and what your speed is at ^^’

6. HAVE FUN!!! Aim to create a piece you’d have a blast working on, even if it wasn’t for a zine!! If you feel comfortable with it, share your progress with friends and fellow zine-goers!! Zines can definitely be hard work, but they’re also great collaborative projects over shared interests, so try to enjoy yourself!!
