Hello people who are getting into Danny Phantom through dpxdc!

I am not a dpxdc blog, but I am a gen dp blog. Here's a few things you should know about us:

👻 Most of us do not like Butch Hartman, the executive producer. We typically ignore him now. What you may not know is that while he was the "business guy" and the one who pitched the show, beloved artist and character designer Stephen Silver is actually the one who designed the characters for Danny Phantom (and, presumably, his team). Not only that, but he has also designed characters for many other shows of that era, including Kim Possible.

👻 Yes, we call ourselves the "phandom." We also, jokingly, sometimes put a ph in front of other things, like calling a fic a phic. It's a bit—don't take it too seriously.

👻 Yes, we have a subgenre of our fanfiction dubbed as the "dissection fic." While I may be a bit biased (as I've written a few), I think it's pretty good. You may enjoy it too if you like angst, who knows.

👻 No, you did not miss an episode, we collectively "made" an OC named Wes Weston who had the same character model as Danny but with a different color pallet. We just thought it was funny. You can read about his story here. The tl;dr is that he's the town crazy conspiracy theorist, he's the only one who knows Danny Fenton is Phantom, and he is constantly trying to prove it but nobody believes him. You remember Dib from Invader Zim? He's like Dib.

👻 On the contrary, you remember the finale of the show? That's okay, we don't either. Phantom Planet who? Never heard of her.

👻 But on the topic of adding things to fanon, the show's been off the air for decades. We're still around. Naturally, we've added things and made different AUs overtime. Different creators have different AUs they like, but you don't have to prescribe to any of them if you don't want. If you're confused about anything you see, feel free to pop me or anyone else an ask and we'd be happy to explain!

👻 There's also different bits of lore that were hinted on in canon that we've expanded. Things like ghost cores, half-ghost biology, worldbuilding with the ghost zone, ghosts having obsessions, dynamics at the school, etc. You're free to adopt or ignore whatever you'd like.

👻 The show is no ATLA, and it's a bit dated for its time, but overall it's a fairly fun background show you can throw on while you're cooking. If you've never seen an episode, I highly recommend watching at least a few fan favorites. I made a list here a while back, and I think it still holds up pretty well.

👻 We host a LOT of events. There's a full calendar of them here. You can assume these are crossover-friendly unless the event coordinators state otherwise (like in the case of phic phight). Feel free to join some!

In general, I feel like Zim’s panic and paranoia are very important aspects of his character that sadly often get overlooked and underutilized in the fandom. I feel like some folks just kinda go ‘oh, well, Zim thinks he is the greatest and most fearsome Invader in the universe so obviously he is certain that he can beat every obstacle’ when… I mean, sometimes he is like this - but some of Zim’s most iconic moments are powered by his fear and anxieties about failure.

So many of Zim’s schemes are motivated by an assumption that Humans are a lot smarter and more observant than they actually are.

Or even just scarier and more dangerous.

He probably would have conquered the planet in a day if he just directly pulled all of the technology he had at his disposal and marched his way publicly to President Land. But he is just so obsessed with the idea that the Enemy is basically constantly one second away from uncovering him that he just wastes his time on pointless ‘infiltration’ and ludicrously overcomplicated ideas of how to ‘subtly’ take over or weaken the Earth’s defenses via fast-food or the Skool Student Council or Dookie.

I mean, that is basically Duty!GIR’s big complaint about Zim in ‘GIR Goes Crazy and Stuff’. His progress has been stupid, because he’s been far too Stupidly Subtle about information gathering and world conquest and information gathering for the purpose of world conquest. When literally just heading to the public library and sucking out people’s brains is actually incredibly effective and has no real consequences.

‘Walk for Your Lives’ is another excellent example of how Zim’s extreme ego and extreme anxiety go together. Zim is driven entirely by a totally made-up arbitrary ticking clock revolving around the idea that the Tallests WILL call again soon and so he MUST get rid of the Time Explosion NOW.

But he’s overconfident in the sense that he is certain that the solution he comes up with is Actually Good and won’t just make everything worse even as literally everyone around tells him it would.

Enter the Florpus’ plot kicks off with a very similar scenario. Zim just comes up with a Made-Up Deadline and a Made-Up Consequence for ‘forgetting Phase 2’ and just starts… stressing himself up with it.

On one level I think this is like… also a weird result of his Ego. You know, the logic being that if any potential challenge is not 100% effortless for him, Irk’s most amazing and powerful Invader, then it must be a horrible and fearsome threat. If Zim actually fully admitted that Earth is the stupidest, easiest-to-conquer planet in the universe - he would have to admit that failing to conquer this planet of all planets makes him a huge-ass loser. So instead, Zim salvages his own pride by constantly overestimating the humans.

But I also think in general Zim has a lot of anxiety and nervous energy. Maybe just from all the insecurities and failures he’s trying to deny and ignore all the time? And he’s just channeling them into the only channels he can consciously acknowledge - worrying about his enemies.

I know I already posted about this before, but Invader Zim really does nail how autism feels from the inside with the way it portrays food.

Like many autistic people, Irkens have a very restrictive diet, consisting mostly of junk food. Human food is always portrayed as disgusting, but especially from Zim's perspective, often making him gag from just the sight or smell. To hammer the point home even further, some of it is even explicitly said to be made out of non-edible substances and a major brand name is literally "Poop".

Zim loves to eat like any Irken, but at lunch time every day he has to choose between trying to choke down something he doesn't want to or just not eating. Like Zim, autistic people are more prone to food allergies, which means their aversion to certain foods may be more than preferential. But even if you aren't allergic, having to eat something you have an aversion to can feel as awful as if it burnt your skin on contact. But Zim is pressured to eat human food despite the discomfort it causes him in order to not draw negative attention, and his painful and humiliating experiences evoke the trauma of being screamed at, shamed, and punished for "being rude", "ungrateful", "picky", or "a brat" for refusing to eat or failing to adequately hide displeasure. Even Zim's delight at being able to stomach what he thinks are human waffles and his hopes of being able to build up a tolerance for human FILTH in order to better pass for normal evoke the autistic experience of discovering a new food and feeling proud for "expanding your palate", after a lifetime of being taught that food sensitivity is a sign of immaturity and a moral failing.

Vivziepop’s and Adam’s childish responses have made me lose respect for them and the shows. An important rule to all creatives, refrain from responding to criticism. Maybe even avoid it, but definitely do not respond. Their “defense” against poor writing reveals they are hurt and can’t handle criticism. You are creators, you will be criticized. That’s the risk we all take. Audiences aren’t required to coddle your feelings and give their feedback in kind words and affirmations.

You’re allowed to be hurt. No one likes criticism, especially of something near and dear to their hearts. That thread on Millie was an immature fishing attempt at praise and adoration from her fans. She set up strawmen for them to mock and smack down all while throwing shade at her critics. Adam retweets an article about how most criticism these days are from people too dense to understand media. Sir, fuck you. People disliking your writing doesn’t make them stupid or wrong. Even if they are, shut up. You look pathetic. Belittling your audience is foolish.

I waited years for Hazbin Hotel. I liked the beginning of Helluva Boss. I’m allowed to critique things. I’m allowed to have “wrong” opinions though we can literally see that Millie has had no significant development in comparison to her male counterparts. Moxxie has 3 episodes dedicated to this, including the one where me go to Millie’s hometown. If her development is coming, fine. It says something that you have to make a thread saying you will because, clearly, you haven’t.

I’m still holding out hope for Hazbin. I’ve been waiting since high school and I liked the pilot.

Finally,

The writing of Helluva Boss is atrocious. Stolas is annoying. Blitzo is inconsistent. Moxxie is fucking pathetic and I can’t believe they wasted Zim’s VA on him. Grow a spine. Millie is adorable but is only Moxxie’s wife. Loona is there…Octavia is also there. Stella is so overkill it’s stupid. The character designs are not diverse. I will watch the next episode and how many episodes after, if I want. I’ll shit on them, if I want. The show has drastically dropped views and you can see it. There are also too many fucking merch sales. They’re acting like Poppy’s Playtime.

Edit: apparently Viv decided to cry about a new video, which was very polite, and tweeted about it. I can’t muster up anything beyond “yikes.”

Why ZaDr?

Think of every worthwhile rival ship that has ever existed; dip it in a poison coating of cynical worldbuilding, sprinkle it with a topping of shunned existence, and let the devil kiss it with a waxy pair of slimy, scifi alien lips. Only then, will you have yourself a sample of what ZaDr has to offer. These characters are compelling in themselves; one being a bizarre and paranormal obsessed clone of Earth's greatest scientific mind, the other a malfunctioning spaztic robot ant from beyond the stars. Each of them ostracized, for one reason or another, largely by virtue of their own passionate past mistakes.Those mistakes, failed efforts to be seen as worthwhile, to be praised, to be loved. But then you set them against each other, as enemies. As mirrored foils. Neither of them in the right, gray morality reigns supreme as they are purely obsessed with their own selfish reasons for self aggrandizement. Anything “good” that might happen as a result of their actions is always cast in the light of unintended circumstance. The true fight is with reality itself, while the sharp end of that crushing conflict is pointed towards the only one who could possibly understand what they’re going through. In the world of Invader Zim, every mentor, leader, parental figure, teacher, adult, child and Invader, feels more real by virtue of misanthropic absurdity. Their inability to provide the support and guidance for the main characters to function in a healthy way, is so very like the absence of nurturing many people feel in their youth. To anyone who has experienced life at its worst growing up, these caricatures of the real world provide a powerful sense of being seen. There is something radical about a story that isn’t written with any other moral than “ this living in society shit sucks”. That speaks to people, and continues to speak to me. ZaDr has always smacked of tragedy, in that you know things will end badly for everyone involved, but it’s still impossible to look away as everything is set ablaze. Two headstrong protagonists, locked in a battle of opposing wills and addictive delusion. It makes the sweetness sweeter, it makes the pains of grand fantasy ache deeper, knowing that these two characters are ultimately fighting losing battles for pitiful reasons.The denial of personal failure, the stubbornness to find purpose. In all of reality, all they truly have is each other. To see that dynamic and ship them is to say that love is possible even in the most dire of circumstances. Time and time again I find myself returning to ZaDr. I think something about the dynamic speaks to the part of us that knows things are wrong and that the fight against it is worthwhile. And that struggle, while futile, can still hold a tremendous amount of personal importance. It speaks to failing, and having the strength to get back up to try again. No matter the odds. For a pairing hated by its own creator, the fixation that Zim and Dib have on each other is an undeniable magnetism seen by the fandom since the launch of the cartoon, all the way back in 2001. This ship has staying power, and after over two decades has failed to fall into total obscurity. Those touched by its effects have gone on to create resonant, deeply meaningful works. This blog, and the posts that I make on the topic, are my way of giving back to the ZaDr community. By displaying the stories of triumph and tragedy put forward by the IZ community, I hope to welcome new fans and give back to long standing fans by providing a living archive and blog space. I look forward to sharing the wonderful talents of so many artists with you all. Happy first ZaDr day of many

UPCOMING INVADER ZIM CAST AND CREW Q&A - MY FORMAL CAMPAIGN TO MAKE IT LIVE STREAMED

Okay listen up y’all, this shits important

I found out that there is going to be a special event at The Frida Cinema playing Enter The Florpus followed by a Q&A (or All A as per Jhonen)

Obviously we cannot ask the cinema to stream a movie, and that’s not what is important but I contacted the cinema to ask them if it were at all possible to buy a ticket to livestream or record the event to show for a limited time.

The cinema seemed receptive! In the email they said Nostalgic Nebula is helping running the event so a quick Google search has given me their contact information as well. I am going to reach out via their email as well.

Now as we all know, numbers are important. Let’s all email and ask to have this become an online event. I am reaching out to all Invader Zim fans whether you be shippers, gore fans, soft fans, NSFW or SFW it doesn’t matter. No in fighting, don’t ignore it because you don’t like the blogs usual content. We all want this to happen. Now some guidelines I feel are important:

BE FUCKING POLITE

I cannot stress this enough, being rude is not going to make this happen.

ASK TO PAY FOR A TICKET

Money talks, no matter how many people ask they will be more inclined if we all say we are willing to purchase a ticket for a live-streamed or recorded event.

NO SPAMMING

Just send one email and reply as appropriating, we wanna overwhelm them positively and spamming “make it a livestream!” Is not only annoying but it could overload this, I’m assuming, smaller more local theatre. Don’t spam the cast, the crew, social media’s, for the love of GOD don’t spam Jhonen, he’s not in charge of this and if we annoy him about this he would demand it not recorded out of spite.

ASK FOR IT TO BE LIVE STREAMED OR RECORDED

Not every company is capable of live streaming events and could easily be overwhelmed or crash. Be sure to ask if it can be live streamed OR recorded, if they can record it and upload it for a limited time viewing that could be more accessible for them.

My ice dragon past self (Heart of Frost) is the life I feel most closely connected to, but I also have a therian timber wolf (Aster) and a not-as-deeply explored life as a snake (presumably a cobra). I very predictably love the outdoors a lot, especially during winter time when it's cold and snowing. I have a few hobbies (such as writing, medieval re-enactment and tech related stuffs) but am currently deeply entrenched in my last year at university and trying to become a designer. *As is the tradition with the draconic summit, our first panel will be hosted by Luunaathh, detailing her experiences being a lycodraconic werewolf and a celestial draconian entity, whilst elaborating on the great amount of uniqueness that is shown within the entire dragonkind community! The draconic summit is an event that wants to encourage the beautiful diversity of dragons within the draconic community and discourage draconic elitism in every way possible. This part of the session will be the character creation part of the dungeon and dragons session, which will be premiering the Saturday of the summit this season. *Close encounters of the dragonkind is a new otherkin podcast centering around the experiences many of us experience in the draconic community! This podcast is meant to start productive discussions surrounding the topic of draconity, the varied experiences that many in the dragonkind community experience, and the tough topic of elitism in the community, which needs to be fought agaisnst. This podcast is meant to have episodes premier every two weeks with a new topic surrounding draconity or dragons each new episode. Our first episode is premiering at this season's draconic summit.
