I honestly haven't been in the SVSSS fandom for very long but the way that some SJ fans talk about the character disturbs me, especially when they try to downplay his abusive actions or deny them. I've had disgruntled fans come onto posts I've made regarding the character's (canonical) abusive traits, claiming that I'm attacking them or just hate the character (which is not true, SJ as both victim and abuser is just an important part of his character, and it makes me really uncomfortable when vocal sections of the fandom say that SJ actually didn't abuse LBH, or that it wasn't that bad, because any abuse is "that bad" and the "it wasn't that bad compared to other things" argument gets used to discount survivors irl).

From my experience in fandom, I hadn't seen anything to the contrary so far-- SJ fans I've argued with on my posts like to demonize LBH and even characters like YQY and SY to extreme degrees, or to claim that I'm a LBH/LBG apologist because I point out that he was abused by SJ so his desire for revenge is justified... even though I never claimed that LBG was right for what he did and yes-- LBG's actions were worse than SJ's! Just as SJ's were worse than QJL's-- if we are looking at sheer scale of the actions and their affects, nothing to do with quality or morality of a person or whatever. Even writing off everything SJ did before coming to CQM because of being under duress, he still viciously abused LBH for around 5-7 years, while QJL only abused SJ for 3 years, so like it or not, there was more abuse for a longer period of time in that situation. The dilemmas of the legal and/or moral 'rightness' of either situation could be argued over forever, but the scale of SJ's abuses was larger than the scale of QJL's abuses. And of course, LBG's abuses was honestly much larger than either of theirs-- but that's laid out in his character anyway, he goes to exponential extremes.

Honestly, I haven't seen anyone say that LBG was justified in what he did and that was never what I tried to argue, because tbh I thought it was common knowledge that he was a terrible person. But people seem to misinterpret me and think that's what I'm saying anyway-- that because SJ was an abuser, he deserved what LBG did to him, and anyone who likes him is terrible as well. Which is never what I said, but what always seemed to be what people thought I was saying...

And now that I've seen things like that discord message, you know what, I get it. I understand why SJ fans have such a knee-jerk reaction to people pointing out his abusive actions, because honestly if this is the kind of shit that people give you guys for daring to like a character that just happens to be problematic, or heavens forbid liking that character and relating to him because you know what? So do I, there's a reason he's popular, he has a compelling story and he's very understandable in the way that he is!

Like on one hand, it makes me personally very uncomfortable to see people say that SJ wasn't abusive, or that he wasn't that bad, and blaming LBH for being abused. Just like it would make me uncomfortable to say any of that about SJ irt QJL/WYZ. But on the other hand, if the only way you were allowed to like a character without being harassed and attacked and having accusations thrown at you was if the character wasn't actually problematic, no wonder you don't want to hear that kind of analysis and it feels like a personal attack!

Anyway, what I want to say to the fandom as a whole is, please don't make assumptions about people and attack them for liking or relating to a character-- any character. You have no idea why they like or relate to a character, and honestly it's absolutely disgusting to make accusations and attacks on people for something like this. And for SJ fans, I'm genuinely sorry if what was meant to be character analysis posts on canonical traits of the character, as well as a reminder that victim-blaming and abuse apologism and denial are pretty not cool, was read as an attack and calling the fans bad people for it. I get you guys have had it rough and the fandom hasn't treated you well-- but also, please try to curb knee-jerk reactions, not everyone is out to get you. If you just don't like thinking about SJ's abusive traits, or prefer to write the character OOC or with different motives, then just say that. Pointing out canon is not the same as an attack. From looking at the debates on this blog, it seems like a lot of people are reading attacks into statements where there aren't meant to be any.

Not everyone who points of SJ's abuse hates the character or his fans-- some people just like to analyze the text, or find it uncomfortable when it seems like people are victim-blaming because of their own life experiences. But also, not everyone who doesn't want to focus on SJ's abusive traits and prefers to focus on other aspects of the character is excusing abuse or anything like that-- sometimes it's just not relevant to the story being told.

The answer isn't to claim your fav was never abusive when he was. the answer is for people to not pass judgment on other fans because of what they want to write about or what characters they like, and not to read attacks into statements where they're not meant. It's no one's place to pass judgement on someone else whose life you know nothing about from behind a screen-- and it's also not good to lash out at others because you've been hurt in the past.

Fandom, please stop forgetting that other fans are actual real people with real lives, real stories, and real trauma that you don't know about. There is never a reason to send hate, abuse, and death threats to anyone, no matter how much you disagree with them.

So I have some THOUGHTS about episode 9 now that I finally was able to watch it, so I’m gonna ramble on about them below the readmore

- The brief flashback to Knives and Vash playing the piano together was interesting, not only in that it means both of them are fairly talented on the instrument, but also because it means the song that Knives has been playing in the times we’ve seen him has been only one-half of the full thing perhaps? I’m sure there’s something quite symbolic about it and how it pertains to the brothers being so interconnected, so I wonder how that might show up later 🤔

- Though I would have preferred to get some more depth to Knives via the scenes with Tesla (since that both showcases the stark difference between their viewpoints and establishes a really good reason for Knives to fear/hate humans so much) I did like that we got to see a direct act that shows the audience just how little the common population thinks of plants as anything more than tools

- “We’ve hit the production limit. They put too great a load on the plants, it cut them off from the higher dimension. They can’t maintain their bodies.” <- I have no clue what the hell that’s supposed to mean but, as the person becoming known in this fandom as the feral plant headcanon-er, I am VERY interested to see if they’ll ever elaborate on that since the manga/first anime never did. *shakes the Stampede series* LET ME KNOW THE SECRETS OF THE INTER-DIMENSIONAL ALIENS

- The ‘Last Run’ scene in general was fairly disturbing, but I know that was the point in order to hit home how Knives so far has interacted with humans (the mental pain had to be horrible, given how bad the distress of a single plant had affected Vash)—but who was the man he was with? Was that supposed to be Conrad? Has Knives already started up his cult?

- Even though Knives totally murdered some dudes, he sure did look cool while doing it

- “Outside of human control, plants use up all their energy in one burst and die.” / “So you bought into that nonsense… No matter how comfortable, chains are still chains.” 🫣

- WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON WITH VASH’S ARM

- “Is that… a gate?” WILL SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THAT AT SOME POINT THANK YOU

- I find it interesting how Vash losing his arm was not from the direct influence of Knives—either his Angel Arm doesn’t exist, or its a wildly different kind of power. Either way, Knives having to make a split-second decision to remove his brother’s arm in order to keep that ‘gate’ (looks like a black hole to me tbh) from swallowing up everything is a really neat twist on intention.

- I saw a post recently joking about Knives being utterly obsessed with his brother and I thought it was hyperbole. I SEE THAT IT IN FACT ISNT. Knives you are a lonely fucker I swear to god.

- Last episode I was so confused on the timeline and was worried that they had shortened the time between the flashbacks to the present day—and I’m super happy to be wrong! Putting Luida and Bradley in cryosleep in order to prolonged their lives was a very creative way to keep those characters interacting with Vash.

- Meryl being SO surprised and impressed by flowers really hit home that they straight up DON’T exist on Noman’s Land…. which, jesus, that was a surprise. I assumed at best sickly little potted plants might have existed, but none? Very interesting…

- Roberto being pessimistic is really hitting home that I know he’s going to die soon and will likely be replaced with Milly in the following seasons. I really enjoy the way his character pairs with Meryl’s energy and positive realism 😭

- Ngl Zazie the Beast is lightly growing on me, mostly as a neat antagonist since they represent the native species on Noman’s Land before anyone else arrived. Wonder if their alliance will alter at any point…

- Totally thought Luida was going to die either by Vash (accidentally) or Knives (purposefully).

Uh, genuine question, but what should non vegans and/or non vegetarians do to be respectful of vegans and/or vegetarians?

And also, a second more specific question, i get that unless the person has actually said something, irl wise it’s generally kinda dumb weird and probably a bit rude to go out of your way to avoid any mention of meat as food in front of a vegan/vegetarian, but online, where the rules are obviously different,

would it be good practice to tag posts that are about or mention meat or other animal products being used as food? Because i imagine even if you don’t care it just might get a bit grating? Like when you keep having to hear a bout a fandom you’re apathetic about

Personally, I don't think tagging for meat or animal products or stuff like that is necessary. I feel like 99% of the fast food ads I see on billboards or commercials is more obnoxious than like someone posting a pic of their dinner and talking about how good it was.

Tbh the only content I actually see on Tumblr that bothers me In A Vegan Way falls into one of two categories.

Exploitative Animal Images: idk to me this ranges from like mildly annoying to hellish. I feel like a lot of images of animals clearly in distress or in unsafe circumstances get passed around as memes a lot here and it's genuinely kinda disturbing. I mean obviously pictures of living animals captioned with something obnoxious about the kind of food you want to turn them into is one example.

Other stuff would be like videos of wild animals in domestic settings where they don't belong (I hope I never see another pet sugar glider video in my entire fucking life tbh) or like otherwise in captivity under CLEARLY shady circumstances (those tiger farms for example). Otherwise stuff like videos of people scaring their pets bc they make funny faces or silly noises about it. A lot of this stuff is pervasive in Internet humor or like cute animal pages and it can be easy to overlook but I think it's worth being critical of thinking about the circumstances animal content is produced under. Tbh I think this is a good internet rule in general - esp when it comes to meme images of violence and stuff like that.

The other category is probably more obvious and the thing I most frequently block/unfollow people over - please don't reblog weird anti-vegan propaganda. I feel like I don't really have to worry about this from you, anon, since you're clearly approaching from a respectful place but there's been what feels like a significant uptick in anti-vegan content couched in progressive language on this site recently.

From blatant misrepresentations of what veganism means to holding vegans solely accountable for stuff everyone does and/or corporate marketing, to weirdly hateful and defensive screeds - there's a LOT of really popular bad takes going around. And some of it is truly wild and really shows how little people read a post before reblogging it - a couple years ago I saw several majorly popular blogs on Tumblr reblogging an anti-vegan post that had lines about the "occult implications" of veganism buried somewhere in the text and it nearly drove me insane. More mundane examples would be the recent rise of 'vegans love to pollute with fake leather bc they're ignorant babies' type posts. A lot of these don't even have to be outright hostile to be annoying, but they all fundamentally fail to understand what veganism is about. It's not a health movement or an environmental movement or a 'lifestyle' movement - the #1 concern of veganism is animal rights.

Not saying there aren't overlapping concerns like environmentalism that can be used in the messaging, but at the end of the day whether something is good for your health or for the planet is a secondary consideration to 'does this system harm a living being unnecessarily.'

Okey dear fnaf people so,,, there's a fnaf fan project I want to do but I also want to see people's opinions.

So like a little backstory, around a year ago I created EXTREANLY like litearly book lenght fnaf fanfiction in like a one month. I was crazy fast, just writting what came to my mind on the spot for the whole day beacuse I was feeling really down at that moment and that cheered me up. So that fanfiction turned out to be so so bad like really. But it became a fundation to my own weird fnaf au/rewrite thing and basically I've been working on it ever since.

It doesn't follow fnaf canon or fnaf canon that strictly really (it's not that far off eighter but if you're one of those people that get angry if au chamges something that was said in the books, then you're going to hate it), I was trying to mostly do my own thing based of that fanfiction and overall story tropes I personally like. It's most evident in ms Afton who's so far from the typical fandom Clara it's insane. But it's not really out of the spite, I just didn't follow fanon tropes and evolved her my own character basically.

Overall the story is really slow paced, like we spend quite a lot of time before the bite of 83, or even with just baby Mike. It's mostly beacuse I'm more interested in studying all the characters instead of going as fast as possible to the "interesting events". So if you're here just for the plot, then it wouldn't be feally your thing.

I want this project to take form of ilustrated fanfiction, every one of these would take form of one longer or few shorter stories from the lifes of characters in chronological order. It would also be organised into arcs, and we would see stories from the eyes of many characters. I wanted it to be a comic, and I even tried making it but I don't think comic format would make it a justice. It's due to the fact that after writting a lot more one shots to this au, I realised that internal dialogue is really freaking important, like there's this one one shot from William's perspective where what's happening on the outside is really normal, wholesome even but the fun comes in his internal dialogue wich is really fucked up and disturbing and- yeah it's basically what makes me enjoy that one one shot so much.

Okay so here comes the deal breaker. English is not my first language, and I never wrote a fanfiction in english before, nor I did publish a fanfic. So if I start making it, and it gains any traction, I'll need to recruit some native speaker to check for any mistakes and overall correct my spelling errors and stuff. I kinda want to do everything alone, but I would need that form of help.

I also have to warn you, even tho that's not a ship comic, some characters might form romantic couples for a longer or shorter while. I wouldn't consider those ships tho, since I won't be writting them to be cute and adorable, just as another mean of expanding the characters. So if you eighter feel uncomforatble with fnaf chatacters dating eachother or fnaf characters dating eachother yet not being cute and wholesome but kinda toxic tbh then,,, you wouldn't enjoy this.

So um yeah that's about it??? If anyone finds the idea of a kinda unique version of fnaf stories not really that inspired by other fnaf fanon stories in form of ilustrated fanfictions, then please tell me!!

Just wanted to say I absolutely adore your writing for both hq and atfo, especially the characterisations and the way the plot threads intertwine with the different overall emotional arcs and lessons each story has! Oikawa and Dick are both my favourite characters from their respective fandoms too, so when I found your work it made my week! I also just wanted to ask if you had any headcanons or ideas on what would happen if the atfo l versions of the DC characters met the Canon versions? Because they’ve grown up so much and are so different yet the same - especially since Batfam is so much healthier in your fic (sorry Bruce) I imagine there’d be some very complicated emotions. Also....yep, I think about it A LOT what would happen if the ATFO batfam met the comic canon (or any canon tbh) batfam.

It's kinda funny since Dick is truly the only one who knew Bruce but because Bruce died when he was so young (when they truly were the Dynamic Duo), Dick never got what was some of the most important part of his character development as a teenager of seeing Bruce's flaws and rebelling against them to be his own person. Ironically, Bruce has become his untouchable golden image where the idea of "the Golden Boy" Dick Grayson has a completely different meaning for the rest of the batfam.

For Jason and Tim (and later Damian and even a bit Barbara), unlike their canon counterparts, they were trained specifically by Dick and (for the Robins) were largely raised by them. He's not some untouchable standard just their older brother who they love but are aware in many ways that he has flaws....I still think they probably think of him as a bit invincible just because, well, he's their older brother who's really, really bad at letting anyone see when he's hurting. Also having Dick raise them instead of Bruce gives them a very different image of what Robin should be. Dick is always super encouraging that they should be their own version of Robin, not copy him. He views "Robin" as more of a broad term meaning family rather than a mantle to be emulated.

Also, since it's Dick who is very much also about cultivating friendships (and less about keeping identity away from friends), Jason and Tim have cultivated a lot closer relationships with the Titans. That's helped them a lot with emotional growth.

If canon batfam met this family...wow...

1.) ATFO!Jason and Canon!Jason would could along the least and would be most honestly disturbed by each other's POV. Canon!Jay calls Dick "Golden Boy" or implies it even worse, ATFO!Jay "Ugh, groan, can you never do that again! He'll get a big head. He's a complete human disaster, have you met him? He can't even cook?!". Meanwhile, ATFO!Jason who has been much more trained on publicity leadership tactics since...well, Dick's had to handle that a lot more with the JLA....sees Canon!Jason being a rebel badass and first thinks his counterpart is just ridiculously shortsighted and then when he figures out he's for real. "...why? What do you mean you actually shot Tim in the leg? Like you legit tried to kill them?!" At this point, ATFO!Jason has labeled his counterpart as psychotic because wtf, Tim might be an annoying nerd but that's his little brother, thank you!

2.)ATFO!Tim and Canon!Tim get along the best. Canon!Tim is sad his counterpart missed out on Kon. ATFO!Tim is more than sightly freaked out "....I'm sorry, how many people died in your life? What happened to your spleen?!?!"

CanonTim: So, Jason seems less murdery here what's up with that

ATFOTim, w/ actual healthy Sibling Rivalry (TM):.....listen, I'm trying real hard not to take that as a challenge...

3.) Canon!Dick probably has the most understanding of his ATFO counterpart and would mostly feel just deeply sympathetic towards him along with a bittersweet kind of wistuflness that ATFO!Dick seems to have gotten a much better relationship with his younger brothers even though the cost was so steep. He definitely recognizes ATFO!Dick's more idealized version of Bruce but also recognizes he can't fix that.

4.) Then, it gets out that the Joker's legit dead in ATFO world and Canon!Jason freaks out. Meanwhile, gets mentioned Jason legit died in Canon world and ATFO!everyone freaks out.

....Canon!Babs is wondering where the rest of her batgirl crew is at.

Hi. Itk here. Believe me, don't, doesn't matter. Thought I'd drop (after you summoned ha) by given the chaos and try to enlighten the ones who choose to believe me, as much as I'm capable of.

The first thing I wanna say is: stop trying to figure out their relationship. You most likely never will. Fans are stuck on both extremes, when the actuality of it is far more in the middle (perhaps even up or down and all around ha). It's complex and strange and not at all "normal" (as normal as they could be, anyways).

It's not as simple as "oh they're just a closeted couple who engage in bearding and have kids and behind closed doors they're just a regular, old married couple and a big, happy rainbow family".

Doesn't sound like itk info, believe me, I get that but observing the fandom I'd say it almost is because most fans simply hang on extreme simplistic ideas of what their relationship is.

Second thing I'd like to say and unfortunately seems like it's not at all obvious but: do not believe anything they share publicly. Not saying they're lying compulsively, but they are public figures and they have a lot at stake to just casually drop the actual truth of any given situation.

Just don't. The same salt you have regarding itks, have towards them. It'd do you some good...Believe me. Unless you are involved in the entertainment or political life, you cannot even begin to fathom what it's really like, the level of manipulation, falsehood and well, overall deviation of it. It's quite disturbing tbh. So just always take whatever's said and shown with a good amount of salt. With public people hardly anything is accidental or casual.

I think the most prominent question now is...Why? Why would they do something like that? Regardless if you have the ingenuity to believe the little scene they made or not...Still, the question lingers.

With my level of "in the knowness" I cannot for sure say the real reason, yet from the pieces I've collected so far, seems to be a multiple gain scheme. It was a high risk, they were well aware, and it paid out in the way they were expecting, minus small bumps here and there. But overall it seemed to have worked in their favor. How in the hell, one would ask?

Believe me, I used my best sneaky capabilities to find out exactly why but they were smart enough to keep this one locked tight, minus a few loose lips. And from those all I've heard was that "whatever the purpose was, it worked out".

As weird as it may sound to the innocent mind, it's actually not at all, given that even leaked nudes are not at all leaked or accidental, and those tend to (at least in the past) get immense amount of backlash. It's not the first time famous folks fake a fight, surely won't be the last.

A lot goes into public image, it's not black and white as "well but it looked bad on Jensen", "it looked bad on the prequel", etc. You'd be surprised as how little this truly matters given the level of manipulation they are able to pull on the public. And well, even with them...It happens all the time. Both made mistakes far worse than just "not telling my bestie about my new project" and fans would eventually let that go and put them back on the pedestal.

So just remember, always: not in the industry? then don't judge anything because you simply do not understand how it works.

Another piece of itk information I can give besides "this was planned and it worked" is: they are fine. From what I've heard they are not fighting over it or going through anything more dramatic than what they usually have been going through ever since they met haha.

So just sit back and chill out. Breathe, read fanfiction and remember that we will never truly get answers, because even what comes out of their mouths are most of the time carefully thought out and directed to have a specific meaning and effect (why do you think Jared mumbles and rambles so much?).

Another interesting piece of itk: you know how they always say they never fight? Even though that sounds insanely hard to believe even if they were just friends because who knows someone for that long and is constantly together and never fights? Unlikely, right? Yes, as obvious as that was. But unfortunately a lot of you seem to believe that, given the level of shock you had for this little twitter feud (as fake as it was). Yeah. They fight. A lot.

They fight as much as individuals in their situation would. Like I said, not at all what most people absentmindedly seem to think it is. They go through a lot. Way more than anyone who isn't in a similar situation would understand. It's messy, although they try their best to make it simpler in the ways they can.

On top of being in a very complex situation, they both have strong personalities and one of them is quite hard to "pin down". So altercations happen a lot, but they know how to deal, and they are exceptionally good at making sure that doesn't interfere in their work (oh well, at least not any work that doesn't benefit from intense emotional exchanges, anyways 😉...chemistry isn't something random, you know? haha).

I find it quite...interesting (to put it nicely) that a lot of hats easily believe they are a couple that lies constantly about almost every aspect of their lives, yet, they cannot believe they would fake a social media narrative. It makes no sense whatsoever.

It'd do you all good to be a little less tendentious and look at them as, you know...Humans? They are not what they seem to be, just as you guys also take in different versions of yourselves in different situations, they do too. And don't be so hopelessly naive to actually believe they see fans as "hashtag family". This is their work. And as grateful as they are for supporters, they certainly do not consider them family. To the point of never lying and trusting you with their life.

I'm sure they love their fans, but come on, saying they would never lie because that's mean to fans is just beyond naive. They've been doing it all along and oh, another interesting info? They don't think they're doing anything wrong.

Yeah, sounds weird, you'd think they'd feel guilty. But again, unless you were media trained, you'd never get it.

From years now if there's one consistent info I've gotten was this: they don't feel obligated to tell you anything. They believe they are doing "what they are supposed to do, the right thing for everyone involved".

So. Yeah. And hell, they are right about not being obligated to say anything about anything, I guess.

Well, I hope that was helpful or at least entertaining. It's hard to share info without accidentally making it obvious who I am for the lurkers (sure you guys were well aware that they lurk around the fandom). But it's safe because as long as I don't provide evidence, I'm fine. Just walking a thin line between sharing and not sharing something too specific that would be easy fir them to know who has that info and although they can't do anything against itks, they can manage to cut us off somehow and I enjoy having access lol, so that'd be a bummer.

I really don't get all the Takumi hate, I mean, almost all the main characters in Nana are maladjusted adults. All of them have issues but other fans seems to gloss over that fact. I mean Nana O is selfish and possessive who treats her friends as objects and possessions to own and can be discarded (note what she said about Shin when he was arrested) but almost everyone forgives her and ships her with either Ren or Hachi, justifying it with her being abandoned by her mother. Ren is an addict, Shin is a victim of abuse, Reira is selfish and needy and is basically a child trapped in a woman's body. While most of these characters are viewed sympathetically, Takumi who is also a victim of abuse and neglect is vilified, when he is one of the most self aware of the bunch and seems to show growth in the future chapters.

I just find it unfair, is all. What do you think about the fandom's perception about this characters?

ok, so like I said on this post... I'm assuming you're the same sender and there is A LOT to unpack here.

So starting right at the claim that all characters in NANA are maladjusted adults... this is what we call false equivocation. Yes, correct. All characters in NANA (and frankly all people) have done some things that we would call "problematic." The thing is not all problematic things are equal and is frankly just a lazy way of saying "I know what's going on here is morally or socially wrong in someway, but I'm not going to think too hard about it and call it problematic rather than more specifically define it as racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc" and like tbh, even just defining something as misogynist as though all misogynistic acts are equal - making a sexist joke is a whole different thing than rape.

So, yes. Nana has done fucked up things. I would argue that Nana never really treated Shin as her friend and that if it had been in Yasu or Nobu who had gotten arrested instead, her reaction would have been VERY different but I digress. It's not a matter of "forgiving" her because as readers... we don't really get that right. We're just along for the ride and we get to make and form our own opinions. Whether we sympathize with the characters or not, or if we think their actions are right or wrong and what we think those characters should do as reparation for their actions.

Personally I sympathize with Nana and think her possessive, controlling traits are part of what makes her an interesting character. She's done fucked up things and I am very interested in seeing her make up for past actions and becoming a happier person.

And I do sympathize with Takumi. He's been through some shit, this is true. However, he's raped Hachi at least twice that we've seen as readers (again, chapter 29 and chapter 47) and I will not be posting panels of the acts because of the triggering content... But they are very explicitly rape, even if I don’t know how much Yazawa understands that herself even if Hachi calls it rape in chapter 48... But I feel it is important that Hachi herself very much connects both events, because after Takumi rapes her in chapter 47, in chapter 48 we see the events of what happened right after him raping her in chapter 29: her discovering the broken strawberry glasses and Takumi apologizing for “being forceful.” So on some level, Yazawa must know.

And I’m not going to get into how he emotionally abuses Hachi and to some extent Reira. Lots of people have gone through scene by scene at this point, I’m sure.

But the rape and abuse that Takumi does to Hachi are not at all comparable to anything Nana has ever done.  I think it’s fair and fine if we want to sit down and discuss the abusive natures of all the characters of the series.  If we find some dynamics inexcusable and others worthy of redemption, and like some of us are going to disagree.

I do want to quickly touch on the fact that I completely disagree with any and all statements that Reira is a “child in a woman’s body” or that Shin is the adult in his relationship with her or anything along those lines, which I hear very often in the fandom regarding Reira. I feel it’s very important to never lose sight of the fact that Reira *is* an adult, particularly when it comes to her relationship with Shin who *is* by all accounts a child. but this just a side bar.

Because I do want to talk about one aspect you said, which is that Takumi is a victim of abuse and neglect himself.  And I agree entirely and his situation is very sad and horrible.  And I think there is a lot to be said about the way media portrays abusers as being part of a cycle of abuse, as though all those who have been abused are doomed to go on to abuse others.  And this is something that is HIGHLY disturbing to see in much of our media.  

It would be very different if we saw more abusers who were never abused before as part of their backstory in storytelling, but we really don’t. And it has really horrible implications for abuse survivors who consume those stories, as well as abusers themselves.  Because it just lends to a narrative that we should be lenient on abusers, because they have been abused themselves. We definitely need more nuanced and interesting portrayals of abusive characters that are simply them being part of an abusive cycle that they were once a victim of themselves.

I sympathize very much with Takumi’s past, but nothing can excuse what he does to Hachi.  I remain very interested in his character and his possible growth in the future, to him apologizing for the wrong he’s done to other characters (and frankly, not just to Hachi but to everyone) and doing what he can to make things better for those he has victimized.

We all have our own experiences and we’re all going to feel differently about different things. I don’t think it’s entirely fair to act like being interested and invested in Takumi’s character arc is a moral failing and I think people are free to be interested in any character they want. But if people hate a character for raping and abusing well, that’s fair and no justification needed.

Thank you so much for your reply about Irene! I suppose I've tried to make sense of the situation within the fiction of the story, but you're right, if you look from the perspective of bad writing it stops being so confusing. Writing morally corrupt and entitled women in some misguided attempt at empowering feminism is something I've definitely noticed and it is infuriating (I'm still seething over Molly slapping Sherlock, and the way everyone else treated him in that episode tbh). 1/3(sorry 😅)

2/3 There is a disturbing trend of people who are supposed to look out for Sherlock making him pay for his rudeness/carelessness with violence or insults. I hate it, because when Sherlock missteps he gets told off (sometimes he deserves it and sometimes he's right but everyone else is being too stupid to notice), especially by John, so as time goes on all the additional jabs at his character stop feeling like banter and more like open animosity.

3/3 Speaking of bad writing, I think it's ludicrous that Sherlock is capable of making the mistakes he does throughout the show but he was able to predict which therapist John would go to, Mrs Hudson kidnapping him, etc down to the hour, probably that John would put him in the hospital too and bring his cane as a nice parting gift. I also think it was ooc for this Sherlock not to realise the killer in ASIP was a cabbie like he does in the pilot. Silly me, I thought what made him human was love. Hey, sorry this is so late in coming! Things have just been super busy lately! Yes, I completely agree with everything you've said here. Just to be super clear, it's not that I think that Moffat or Gatiss are bad writers, per se, but they're lazy af and entitled af. Gatiss once sneered at someone asking a question about unresolved plot threads as us wanting "pablum", when what we the fandom have actually requested is, simply, quality work. Finished work. Work that doesn't leave gaping holes. I firmly believe that they're capable of writing work that meets that description, but they're smarmy and self-satisfied and are too busy scoffing at the very people who gave them the platform that they have to actually listen when we point out that something is half-baked. I could rant for a very long time about their view of what feminism looks like, but I won't do it again today. I fully agree about their inconsistent treatment of Sherlock. Either he's a super-human intellectually, or else he's so stupid that literally everyone else in his universe is said to be smarter than he is. He's the only person who ever needs to face a consequence for his actions - and not only that, but also the actions of OTHER people, like how Vivian Norbury's choice to pull a trigger and Mary Morstan's choice to somehow jump in front of Norbury's bullet were in any way done because Sherlock Holmes controls everyone and everything around him. What an incredibly stupid suggestion. I'll also just point out that attributing the agency and decisions of two women to a man is incredibly misogynistic, even if I loathe one of those women. Mary's actions were her own, and they were all very bad and she never once had to face a consequence or even pretend to be sorry for them. John also has a lot of shit to answer for (THE MORGUE SCENE, ANYONE!!!!), for going back to Mary (WTAF) after she shot Sherlock in the heart, on purpose, with the specific intent of preventing John from making an informed choice about her. Again, I could go on and on and on. Sherlock is the only person who has to face punishment, and man, do they love to punish him. I think I just had a breakthrough realization that Molly slapping Sherlock is their Mary Sue. Wow. Lol.

I read a lot of fanfictions... More than I am proud of. I thought I should recommend as I go before I lose sight of their existence among the sea of my favorites.

Since past few days I have been craving for some creepy, unnerving fanfics that will keep me restless and awake at night. I remembered my favorites and wanted to read more of the kind so I looked up, patiently going through each story that sounded compelling. I also revisited old stories for nostalgia's sake.

Of course, rare as they are, in Naruto fandom no less, it's even harder to find a horror and mystery fic that is well written, not dropped under 2 chapters, and really keeps your attention.

But even the most powerful team of shinobi will find themselves challenged in a battle against the supernatural. With Sasuke's return, vengeful ghosts of the past will test him and his love.

My thoughts : One of the best stories I've read in a while, and top tier SS stories. I read this in one sitting. I never listen to music while reading, preferring silence, but for this one, I suggest you do as the author says. Also, keep some tissues and food with you. This story is major in mystery and minor in horror but otherwise full of SS fluff.

“Oh,” says Naruto, “well, its sort of like that. Except in this village, the story has a way more darker ending – it basically goes like this: the girl and the guy plan to run away together. The guy steals a bunch of treasure, and stashes it away. But then, when he goes to get the girl at her village, he kills her and decides to run away with all that money. But then he is killed by the guards of the girls village and now they're both dead and the treasure is hidden away somewhere”. Sasuke stares blankly at the blond, “that story makes no sense”.

My thoughts : I know you must be thinking the same thing as Sasuke – "makes no sense". I did too, but it's a pretty cool short story. It lies on the funny, creepy side that slowly starts to lose its funny touch. SS makes stupid mistakes later on but it could be because they are MCs. The ending is very ambiguous. It's not my favorite mystery but it is something. Enjoyable read but not something I will pick again.

My thoughts : Author of this story just summarised Pre-Shippuden in less than 4k words and made some tiny changes to it. Not much though. One of my favorite gen fics yet. Read it if you haven't yet. You'll feel more sad than thrilled tbh. But worth it.

My thoughts : I picked it up for Mystery but I stayed for Comedy. But of course that's not to say supernatural elements in this story is not it, but it sure pales in comparison to effortless humor in this story. Lee and Kiba pair is something you don't see often but they get along too well here. Charactisation is on point as well. SS angst! + NS angst (but it's downplayed)

My thoughts : My all-time favourite horror Naruto fanfiction. To me, this sets the standard of how mystery and horror elements should be handled. I have never been able to get this story out of my mind even it's been years. Perfect charactisation of Team 7 with Smart-yet-Stupid!Sakura, I-can-fight-aliens-and-reanimated-corpses-but-keep-ghosts-away-from-me!Naruto and I-dont-get-paid-enough-for-this!Sasuke. I especially love OCs here. They kinda reminds me of Pillars from KnY. You must read this story, loosely based on Zombie apocalypse + curse concept.

A bit of the Silent Hill series mixed in with Naruto. Trapped in an illusion whose rules are unknown, they struggle to find answers before darkness consumes them.

My thoughts : One of the best mystery fanfictions I've read. I especially loved how this story handled Genjutsu in the best possible way it could without it turning into some cliche, ghost story. Though really, this story has shown what my greatest fear actually is. I will never be able to leave my back open to a wheelchair. This story has simple writing yet it gives you creeps with the twists and turns. A must read one because it is unlike any other in this list.

My thoughts : Listen to Halsey's Control while reading this. Quite chilling, deals with mental issues and morbid but in a fascinating way. It gives a new meaning to Dark!Naruto, but one that actually makes sense. I never saw the ending coming... I had something else in mind and I was convinced it would be, but nope. Here's a sequel to this One-Shot (Uzumaki's War) which I never picked up.

My thoughts : I read this story a long time ago and have read this twice. Personally, it has the most interesting concept of all stories in the list. It reminds me of Vocaloid series, "Bookmark of the end". Kind of. To those who are thinking of picking this up, go ahead! It's a great book and has one of the best suspense I've read in Fandom. BUT, it has been stopped in mother-of-all-cliffhangers and Author is MIA for 4 years now. But, all things considered, it remains to be one of the best stories I've read.

My thoughts : I read this story right after "The Curse", my favourite. From what I remember, Sakura and Sasuke are both mentally deranged, in different ways. Lots of death and gore to stomach, so not for weak readers. There's no speak of fluff in this one. Zero, Zilch, Nada. I wouldn't call it your classic 'Horror', but it is very disturbing, so psychological horror is more like it. Don't eat food while reading this one. Did I mention how Sakura is mentally disturbed beyond help in this one? And Sasuke is obsessed. If these suit your tastes, go ahead.

i sick of hearing people moaning about loki being ooc or appearing weak 1. it was not a human who threw his ass to the floor, it was a another version of himself/slyvie (still not convinced it lady loki) some things make me think it not 1. way treated another version of himself unless we suppose see it as him disliking himself deep down. 2. the blonde hair as the actress is brunette why couldn't she have black hair instead of blonde?

loki appearing open with mobius, well maybe cause he met someone out side his family etc who seems him more than a monster, but obvious loki doesn't trust easy and mobius doesn't fully trust loki either and are both playing each other. sometimes/most time it actually more easier to be open with a stranger than to open up to people close to you and mobius is an outsider who somewhat knows loki as his studied his life etc i think it complex relationship between them and what their motives are. i actually say this is not avengers loki but actually loki post avengers, pre the dark world, which imo on his way to his redemption in dark world and following on so why people so why people so bothered he appears to be similar to those loki's like it or not those loki's are loki just cause they stuck on thor/avengers loki but this was a lost/angry version of loki so how can make out that the real loki? rather than the following loki's?

i see some say if loki made out to be bad etc it ooc or they moan, when loki appears genuine and vulnerable it ooc, again so can the writers etc win either way with these people? jeez.

I think this quote sums up the situation of the Loki fandom. Or simply any fandom, for that matter.

But I agree with your points about how we can approach people and situations differently in different circumstances. From personal life experience, I can express this point in the manner that we all don't behave in the same way with everyone. We might as well be different people with differing company.

With family, I'm a sort of disappointment who doesn't interact with them a lot and keeps her passions to herself.

With friends I'm vibrant and quirky and very expressive.

With strangers I'm just a quiet person with a penetrating gaze. Quite boring, TBH.

With myself I'm creative and lively, never bored by my solitude.

With coworkers or fellow scholars I have been polite and courteous, helpful and engaging. Not a soul would've thought that I hated socializing.

So, that's just the variations of me, and we know that Loki is much more complex. It's only understandable and logical that he'd contain even more multitudes than me.

Now, that's how you and I see it. There are many who don't agree with it, yes. It's for the best, IMO, that we ignore their opinions and, in the same vein, they ignore ours. That's the path of peace, and I personally try to walk on it.

Of course, sometimes, disturbances happen, but we should try to deescalate the situation and step back from arguments. Because in this situation, there's no right or wrong, no IC or OOC. There's simply a difference in interpretation.

So.. About That Hickey..

I think I’m still processing all of this and reminding myself I’m not dreaming 🤣 I seriously only got 3 hours of sleep last night and when I woke up the first thing I did was check twitter to be sure this “drunk bridal-style spinning hickey neck biting proudly showing off” moment actually happened!! 

.. I hate the way my brain works though. I was so happy that it took me forever to fall asleep, spent all day on cloud 9 despite being tired, .. and then my old nemesis, anxiety, stepped in. Well kind of. TBH if all of the MOTS ON:E Jikook moments we got happened with Jimin/anyone else or Jungkook/anyone else.. I would seriously be sitting here saying “well fuck.. I believe they WERE a couple, but looking at all of this it seems they are no longer together.” So really, this just confirmed what I already knew about Jimin and Jungkook: they’re a couple. My anxiety is over.. why? Why show us this? If they can cover all of JK’s tattoos, a hickey/bite mark/whatever we’re calling it should be super easy to hide. Sure it was just rehearsal.. but it was rehearsal with cameras rolling with every intention of releasing what was being filmed as future content. It could have (and some might argue should have) been covered.

Guys... I’m confused. And concerned. ❗❗❗ TW for drama, hate, homophobia, the usual anti issues

That “official” explanation.. again.. why? I’m assuming Jimin and Jungkook were asked and allowed to explain because of the chance of it being spotted and armys freaking out, so BH (or possibly even Jikook) thought to get ahead of the speculation by just being up front about it all.. but THAT explanation? I suppose it works for covering up the army panic of “Jungkook has a girlfriend?! *insert fangirl sobbing*” .. but that’s literally all it does (and only barely if you go looking at some of the anti’s reactions to it all). Really, all it did was draw even more attention and speculation. I mean.. this is, essentially, what we were told: Jimin and Jungkook were together the night before drinking, apparently without the other members as they didn’t seem to know all of this already (and they would have if they had been there), somehow hanging out and having drinks turns into Jungkook picking Jimin up bridal style (random but some of the k-army reactions on twitter were translating through google into “princess style” and I just think that’s so cute 🥰), spinning ensues, Jimin gets dizzy and wants Jungkook to put him down, ... and so he proceeds to do the only logical thing that any of us would have done in that situation... biting Jungkook’s neck? And hard enough to leave a mark the next day?? And instead of being peeved about it (like most of us would have been if our friend bit the crap out of us), Jungkook looks happy?? proud even??? 

And they arrived together the next day and continue to be cute and playful? 

I just.. I mean.. come on. First of all.. that’s a hickey. A bite leaves teeth marks. And one would assume a wild, drunken “let me down” chomp would be something that happens suddenly and ends very quickly. I know I for sure would drop someone on their ass if they decided to take a bite out of my neck (assuming I was even picking up and spinning around with one of my friends like that to begin with.. but let’s not even get into why that was going on at this point) .. but the way this bruised? Yeah. There were no teeth involved (at least not hard enough to leave indentations) and this took more than a couple of seconds of mouth-to-neck contact to still be that visible the next day. So.. in short. Jungkook arrives with a hickey, JK decides to not cover it up (or he would have shown up with it hidden and we see him get out of the car that morning with it clearly visible), BH staff sees it and also decides to not have it covered up and actually have it explained... and the explanation is “oh yeah Jimin just bit him, you know.. no big deal hehehe isn’t that funny?” 🤯 WHAT?! Yeah.. that’s totally normal, platonic behavior between adults...

I’m not saying Jimin and Jungkook are lying btw. I have no doubt it played out more or less exactly as they said with the exception of what they’re calling the end result. Jimin and Jungkook are fine.. I mean, what were they supposed to say? They’re not going to show up saying Jimin was sucking on Jungkook’s neck the night before. We’ll probably never know why Jungkook decided to not cover it up before arriving, but it’s his body and he gets to decide. It’s BH that has me so puzzled. Other than antis and people who refuse to see what’s literally right in front of their faces when it comes to Jikook.. who were BH expecting to believe the bite thing? Just among staff and the other members, it’s a laughable but safe “oh of course *wink wink*” explanation that allows everyone to carry on like normal. But to the public who don’t know them personally, don’t know their usual behavior and patterns, and who don’t have something like a non-disclosure agreement or professional courtesy preventing them from openly speculating.. it doesn’t fly. Pretty much everyone teen and up knows what a hickey looks like (either from having gotten/given one or at least seeing one on someone else in person or online). It’s immediately obvious what it is. And even if there was some uncertainty.. that it’s on his neck (instead of other easily accessible and less sensitive/stimulating locations) and just so happens to be right near his mole as it Jimin were aiming for it? Just another “too many coincidences” thing when it comes to Jikook.

Even antis on twitter couldn’t deny what it was and, so, had to resort to the “well I do that with my sibling and my uncle’s pet raccoon all the time it’s just family things” excuse and/or the “yeah well someone ELSE in the group (or a girlfriend) gave him that and they’re just covering by saying it was Jimin.” Oh. And the same old “it’s just fan service” excuse (as if Jungkook would let someone bruise his neck for the purposes of fanservice which, again, BTS has never done or needed to do. Forever pissed off that so many in this fandom act like Jungkook is a puppet doing whatever the “evil company” tells him to do regardless of his personal feelings or boundaries. The man has tattoos covering nearly every inch of his arm despite that being looked down on in Korea. At this point he can do whatever the fuck he wants). So.. why?? Seriously, why? This all could have easily been avoided with simple makeup.

When they’re doing official content they’re all literally followed around by a flurry of staff fixing hair, dabbing sweat, touching up makeup, etc. Even though it was rehearsal, staff were everywhere in the footage that’s made its way online. If they were worried that it would be seen in the background and “taken the wrong way,” just have the staff occasionally touch up the makeup. “Easy peasy lemon squeezy.” But instead of doing the obvious, BH decides to: not cover it, draw attention to it by asking about it and letting them continue to talk about it, go out of their way to get a camera on it, and then include it in the final cut of the content they sent out?

BTS is literally the most popular group in the world right now and BH has become a behemoth of a company that runs like a well-oiled machine. They’re not stupid; this was not a mistake. For some reason they wanted us to see this and, one would assume based on the lack of a more believable explanation, they wanted us to come to the conclusion that we all have: Jimin gave Jungkook a hickey. You know they have teams dedicated to monitoring reactions to content on social media. You know they know the dialog surrounding Rosebowl, Black Swan MMA, the Memories 2020 “almost kiss,” etc. etc. All of this got “jikook,” “hickey” and variations of their names trending for HOURS (in multiple countries and worldwide). 

Out of curiosity, I decided to check the trends at the time of writing this. As of 3 AM CST (about 24 hours AFTER the clips started showing up online), there was still a hashtag trending related to all of this: #FREEJUNGKOOK.. and the tweets being directed toward BH are.. disturbing to say the least:

While I agree that the boys should trend more often based on their talents and music.. what’s going on right now is a homophobic 💩 show accusing BH of “scripting” interactions (rather than.. you know.. Jungkook interacting with whoever he wants however he wants.. the usual “mindless puppet JK” narrative), trying to coordinate the mass sending of angry emails, trying to get people to stop buying paid content, accusing BH of taking advantage of the members.. I mean it goes on and on. And BH know what’s going on right now. They’re seeing the reactions... the good and the extremely negative. And still they let this out. And this is all not even CONSIDERING the mountain of other moments that made the cut on MOTS ON:E.

So.. even though I’ve said it dozens of times already... WHY? W H Y? I’m an anxious person by nature and not very trusting. I believe Jimin and Jungkook and I don’t think they’ve been lying and pretending for “fanservice” all of these years. I respect them both too much as individuals and artists to believe that they would stoop to such tactics just to generate a little more “interest” and revenue. I’m suspicious of BH. BTS doesn’t need fanservice to get attention; literally all of 2020 and 2021 so far has proven that beyond a doubt. Even if they suddenly made the decision to do fs.. why not go with the most popular ship (taekook) or at least one that isn’t so hotly debated on social media (remove Jimin, Jungkook and Tae from the equation and you still have four members to “play” with who have much less potential to have fs devolve into a toxic crap show all over the internet). Showing us this will do nothing to help BTS as a group or Jimin and Jungkook at this point. In fact.. all it can do is hurt. Hurt BH, hurt the group, and hurt the individual members, heck.. even potentially hurt other BH/HYBE groups. I’ve already seen people on twitter saying they’re “done” spending money on anything BH or BTS puts out because they’re “sick of jikook in their faces and just two of the seven hogging all of the screen time.” Whether or not that “spending freeze” actually materializes into anything noticeable remains to be seen of course.. but the threat is there and always has been. What is the motive? And why now? As much as my “hopeless romantic” heart would like to believe they’re preparing us for Jikook to be “out” .. I seriously don’t think that is ever going to happen. Certainly not now at the height of the group’s fame, with them being given Presidential honors and ambassador status, and with military service still looming over them all. And let’s not forget... Korea is NOT a safe place for a queer couple. Letting us see and know what they did through what was released has the potential to put Jimin and Jungkook (and the other members by proxy) in danger. Sure.. BTS has never been hardline rule followers and have been breaking molds and shattering norms from the start, so “officially” having an openly gay couple in the group wouldn’t be impossible.. just... highly highly improbable. Especially right now... and I’m concerned. I don’t want to sound like the creeps I posted a screenshot of above throwing blame at the company. The boys chose to renew their contracts with the for a reason so we have to trust their judgement as a group... but still, I’m worried and I’m questioning what the purpose was here.

For starters, Carol-Anne Hillman is the lady who began Ianto's shrine in 2014, and she's now over 69. Goes without saying that she's the biggest Ianto fan there is. Here's an article about her going into more detail than I will, but to sum up the concerning points:

The more concerning stuff was posted a while back on the twitter account TW on Blast, who called her out after she started causing issues in the fandom. The main points:

She used to wait around outside JB's old house, later showing up only when he wasn't at home after legal action was threatened.

Since she's also showed up in GDL's village, it's safe to assume that the Torchwood cast is the reason she moved to Cardiff.

Sent hate mail (and encouraged others to do the same) to RTD, and death threats to James Moran.

Plenty of other instances that have made the cast uncomfortable.

So. Deserving of two restraining orders.

Her twitter is now deleted (I'm not caught up on any new developments and would love to know why), so I can only share what's been sent to the hazmat discord. This time last year she was super active in the fandom and uh

Her fanfiction.net still exists, which I won't link here because a lot of it is disturbing and I really don't have the strength to visit it again. Rest assured it's the shittiest writing since I was twelve on wattpad. A delightful example of one of her works:

Some of the worst stuff we came across was explicit Jack/Ianto sex whilst Ianto is underage, usually 17. There's a trend of school-based fics that always end in M/M SEX. yes ritten written like that

Coupled with some of the comments she's made about GDL's looks (and... Eugene from Random Shoes), it makes the whole thing a little more disturbing. Reminder that this is a woman in her sixties.

I'm sure there's more to be found but trying to keep this brief. I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse that so few people know the origins of Ianto's shrine - on one hand, it's great that she's fading into irrelevance amongst the younger fans, who all treat the shrine like the fun joke it should be. On the other, it's a little concerning that everyone's support is justifying her actions, whether they're aware of it or not.

In my personal (PERSONAL) opinion, I don't think the shrine should have been allowed to continue, and I'm all for tearing it down as soon as possible, despite how much 14-year-old me enjoyed visiting it. The origins are just too much and although it's been all these years since she started this behaviour, I'm surprised how little has been done about it, so it's better late than never to let her know she's not welcome. Fandom field trip to steal her doorbell anyone?

In reference to my original post, I of course don't support the shrine being ruined because of this whole JB situation. My opinions about it are complicated and not fully formed yet, but GDL has had enough weird behaviour from fans to deal with (going beyond Carol-Anne) and I don't think he deserves these threats.

Anyway, this has been a ramble that I haven't proofread. If anyone has an update on Carol-Anne, I'd love to hear it.

Hello, I’m quite new to this fandom and I was curious as to if anyone else feels the same: I started reading fanfics and was so surprised at the way Martin is portrayed in many fanfics… And then I saw your post on tropes you didn’t like and it listed “dom/sub outside the bedroom”. Do you feel like Martin is too often portrayed as the sub in AND outside the bedroom? Because when I started reading I expected to mostly find fics where they either switch or where Andres is a power bottom but no??? And I mean they’re literally almost each others mirror image so I expected people to definitely write them like equals outside what happens in the bedroom. And obviously everyone is allowed to like and write what they like, but I personally don’t understand why Martin is portrayed so often as “lesser”/“weaker” than Andres (e.g. he’s always the one who cries/has to be comforted, never Andres, Martin sometimes has all the traits of a straight romance novel woman)I feel like Andres often is portrayed as if he is more… powerful, more intelligent, almost superior(?) to Martín which I did not understand. Honestly if either of the two is more intelligent, it should be Martín right? Because he’s actually the one with the degree in engineering (okay sure that doesn’t mean *everything*, but still….). I feel like they’re equals and they treat the other that way, as if both of them are gods, not as if only one of them is. Hi anon! Don't worry- I understood this ask, and I've been thinking about how to answer. Hopefully I'm not leaving out any of your points in my answer, and of course, you don't have to agree with me (or anyone else in this fandom)- we're all equals here! Like you said, everyone has their own preferences and can write what they want- so this answer is just my (and maybe yours!) personal opinion.

LOL I assure you, anon, you are not the only one who feels this way. I actually had similar thoughts when I first started reading berlermo fics- tbh, I read a few before watching s3/4, and the Martin in those fics was a completely different person from the man I saw on screen (in both present and past timelines). I was expecting a likable uwu character, and Palermo was honestly a True Asshole lmao- so obviously, I was much more interested in the latter ;) But it was very hard getting behind um, particular portrayals after watching the show. In fact, I was so disturbed by this 1 fic (don't remember the plot or the author- just how Wrong it made me feel) that I decided to write my own. All I remember was Martin gaslighting Andres repeatedly, and the author acting like Andres was the bad guy?? it just felt very wrong to me.

To answer, yes, I do think Martin is portrayed as a sub in and out of the bedroom too often. Personally, I don't care who submits to who in bed, and there are plenty of bottom!Martin stories I've enjoyed. But it rubs me the wrong way when Martin's also like that in all aspects of his life and what he does in bed shouldn't have anything to do with that. In canon, I also thought that Andres and Martin saw each other as equals, with Palermo literally and metaphorically replacing Berlin. He's not a "lesser" Berlin- he was his equal, his partner. And I think there's nothing wrong with a story where say, Martin lets Andres pick what they're having for dinner or the color of their outfits- but the key words is lets. It's a choice.

There's no solid evidence that Martin just submits to all of Andres' commands because he's too spineless to say no. I've seen some common arguments for their dom/sub dynamic outside the bedroom based on the fact that Martin didn't stop Andres from leaving the monastery in 4x08. But I just don't see it. 1) They were both crying in that scene, not just Martin 2) literally anyone in Martin's position would have been too disoriented to perform some grand romcom gesture 3) Andres made it clear he didn't want anything more with Martin (whether or not this is the truth is up for debate, but vocally he basically said "no"), so unless Martin decided to do something non-consensual to the man he loves/respects more than anything in the world, he literally had no choice but to let Andres walk away. Because the other things he could have done to "disagree" with Andres' choice are NOT PRETTY.

The same applies for Martin supposedly standing by and doing nothing while Andres marries 5 times. I don't know what else Martin could have done. He was under the assumption that Andres is straight, and even if he sensed that Andres wasn't, Andres believed himself straight. Martin respected that. He loves Andres, he'd indulge him in anything, but he wouldn't force Andres into anything he doesn't believe Andres wants. It's one of the few selfless and decent traits Martin has, and I'm not fond of it being reduced to just him being a "sub."

That said, I also much prefer it when they switch and I think power bottom Andres is just as valid as top/bottom Andres or bottom/top Martin (and I think of them both as power bottoms when they're in that position lol). Not that fic needs to be realistic, but switching is more common irl than people think. In fact, top Martin is pretty much confirmed by canon, given how he treats Helsinki both when he's being "mean" to him AND when he's being "nice" to him- Martin 100% led their relationship in and out of bed. And he does it so naturally that I think it's safe to say that's how he typically acts with the men in his life.

Hopefully, I'm not getting too far off track from your ask! But I wanted to add on that given how misogynistic both Andres/Martin are and how hard it was for Andres to "accept" his bisexuality in the first place, I think it's more likely that during their first time in bed, Andres would top. imo, He'd prefer to top for a good while until he both realizes that bottoming won't affect his masculinity and his horniness for having Martin inside him gets the better of him. But that's just my personal take. I only bring it up because in that situation, it's not that Martin CAN'T top Andres because of some inherent inferiority complex or weakness, but because he wants Andres to be comfortable. For me, it's less "Martin is too much of a sub to do anything but bottoming" and more "Martin prefers to top but he is willing to bottom for Andres."

Moving on to your other points, I really don't know why Martin is portrayed as weaker than Andres to such a noticeable extent? I assume it's because he's like a few cm shorter? Because people related to the unrequited love subplot and over-projected onto the character? Or over-sympathized with him? I'm probably not the best person to comment on this, since I really don't sympathize very much with either Martin or Andres. The only time I projected on Martin was that time I wrote him dealing with bad customer service lol. I think Martin has an ego in canon that he totally earned because in his words, he's a genius, and that's not something we should ignore when it comes to his character.

As for Andres being powerful and superior and even more emotionally mature sometimes(??!), it just goes hand-in-hand with Martin being written as the weaker one first. It's not always badly done, but it can be offputting (for me) when done too extremely. Like, there's nothing wrong with a good angst or hurt/comfort story, Andres caring for/comforting Martin, etc. I've enjoyed reading and writing those once in a while too. And again, people can read/write what they prefer and how they see things, just like we can do the same! Everyone's entitled to their own interpretation and opinion.

I just don't like it when it's too extreme, when Martin is offensively pitiful and Andres only exists to fix Martin's life and/or somehow being his "tormentor" at the same time. I don't really like this trope most of the time, because it's less a berlermo story and more a story about an overly self-pitying Martin and a cardboard lover with no life or feelings of his own.

And it might just be my personal tastes, but when the power dynamic is so skewed between them (Ex. Andres believes himself a god but Martin believes himself an ant instead of a man) , I find that version of Martin extremely unattractive and don't know what Andres sees in him. In the berlermo dynamic, I believe Andres loves Martin because he sees Martin as his other half and his worthy equal. Without that, I just can't buy into their relationship, and um, a partner who's constantly doubting your love for them or clinging to you every hour of the day is Not fun- if I was Sergio and saw someone acting like that with my brother, I too would encourage Andres to leave him.

Circling back to your point, LOL YES Martin is objectively the more booksmart and intelligent one (maybe Andres is more talented/knowledgeable in the fine arts but definitely not in the engineering aspects). And Martin pretty much built 80% of the Bank Heist, with Andres just being there for moral support or something lol (it's like a project where Martin did all the work and then added Andres' name to it). There's nothing I see to indicate Andres' "superiority" to Martin, nor do I think Andres thinks of himself as superior to Martin (and even if he did, certainly not by That much asdfadf).

It's how I see it too- they see each other as Superior to everyone but each other, and in Andres' case, he definitely thinks that everyone should worship both his and Martin's feet.

It's like you said- everyone has a different opinion/interpretation of berlermo but that doesn't mean there's a right answer or that just because something is the majority opinion, it's the right one. It happens all the time in fandoms- there's some fanon or headcanon that gets popular, and it becomes the dominant one. It's popular, maybe there's reason behind it maybe there isn't, but most of the time, it's just because 1 person did it- people liked it- so another person copies it, etc. etc. Nothing wrong with that, but if you don't see it, you're not wrong either.

For example, I was really into Kirk/Spock once. When I was looking at fics for the reboot films, bottom Kirk was more popular. But when I looked at fics for the original series, bottom Spock was more popular. I didn't mind either, but those were written for pretty arbitrary reasons, like reboot!Kirk was younger and more immature, TV!Kirk was older and nicer, reboot!Spock was angstier, etc. None of it was actual evidence for anything.

I can at least assure you that everyone, regardless of what berlermo dynamic they prefer, sees Andres as Martin's malewife haha! He's totally Martin's trophy husband more than happy to be malewife eye candy while he brags to everyone nearby about how amazing Martin is. That opinion is very much shared by almost everyone ;)

hello <3 since i got these asks at the same time i decided to combine my thoughts on them in this post. yet another annoying sjw essay from yours truly on this blog 

before i get into these i think i need to preface why im like. i guess overly hyperfocused on a certain unproblematic base (same age au / platonic canon) for them and avoid the ped0philic content like the plague lol

as i’ve mentioned a couple times already, ive been into the ship since i was 12, back when it was very very common to not only post untagged (nsfw) canonverse content of the two in writing and in drawing but also non con and the like, so you can imagine how bad my first impression online was. thinking back on it ...as a child i found it disturbing but didnt really register how problematic it really was?? (i know, but i also lived in the middle of nowhere and had no one explain this to me) 

skip to 2014 aka me coming back to naruto at 17ish and i had kinda become hyper aware of the fact that there was an increasing amount of people online who had come forward with explaining how fictional problematic content, mostly pedophilia, had been used to groom them into starting relationships with adullts. it was also a time where a lot of people didnt believe these victims, not registering how common it was for minors to be online friends with adults who had no boundaries and no qualms exposing them such content. not gonna get into my personal life here but i was lucky to not having gone through this myself. like... it kinda was my first time truly realising how fiction can EASILY be used to manipulate others irl (and yes i will not argue this, if you dont think fictional media can form and manipulate people’s opinions on attitudes, countries, cultures and virtues, pick up a book about the effects of propaganda media at least once please) 

i, being young, still liking the dynamic but not really the romance, would point this out here and there in the fandom and get into fights with grown adults in their mid 20s who assumed i automatically hated the ship(s) and tried to restrict their freedom of speech or whatever, heard everything from the “age of consent doesnt exist in naruto” to the “sasori looks like a child what does it matter” despite people clearly playing on him being older and experienced. it made me so upset that people were just consuming all this content uncritically and exposing children to it tbh?? not really just sos but a lot of minor/adult ships in naruto in general. and thats where i sat down and thought, i do not want to be a grown adult talking down to children that point out how unsafe the fandom is. theyre absolutely right in drawing these boundaries and calling out adults who defend the uncritical consumption and creation of this content. i do not want to consume or create content that predators could use to groom minors, and i absolutely do want to let younger people in fandom know that i am respecting their comfort zones and want them to have a safe and fun experience. after all, naruto is not an adult show and i think a lot of people forget that!!!! i am not perfect in that regard but its something that i, at the age of 23, am very passionate about and strive towards to.

and i guess thats where same age au was born for me and i have been sticking to it ever since. 

so finally we can move to the first question 

aside from the fact that we both dont like canon sos, i dont think it would work out even if i wasnt prejudiced to it anyways. in all honesty, 35 year old canon sasori is not a redeemable character to me, given the fact that he’s easily amongst the cruelest villains in naruto (torturing and killing and taxiderming people for his own fun personal gain, never for a goal that served anyone but himself. how do you redeem having over 300 corpses in your backpack that you felt absolutely no remorse for killing). sasori was legit one of the only cruel villains that didnt had someone else pull the strings, which sends a clear message on kishi’s part, who absolutely loves to redeem villains LOL.

being that old, he obviously had already been very manifested in what he believed in, even if it was shakey, to the point where the first crack in that world view (sakura and chiyo protecting each other) immediately had him give up on his life all together. that, in my opinion, is not a man who’s going to know what healthy relationships would look like, regardless of it being romantic or not. 35 year old sasori to me has the same appeal as an expired can of tuna and he’s probably very happy 6 feet under. he’s supposed to be a failed gaara in that sense that he had no one to look out for him and therefore was never going to experience anything but a bad ending in life. its fine that hes dead honestly, it wraps up his short character development the best IMO.

adding to that, seriously, sakura was obviously interested in knowing why he was that way, and called him out for being seriously fucked in the head, but it’s weird to me that people assume she had any interest in actively rehabilitating him, let alone starting a serious romantic relationship with him. sakura who’s not only very, uhm, immature and straight forward when it comes to her romantic viewpoints also, as a big bootlicker, wouldnt soil her standing in the village by starting anything with a disgraced and far too gone criminal like sasori. shipping that version of sasori with sakura intimately is still going to set her up for a huge power imbalance that would be difficult to handle imo, even if she was the one in the fight ultimately exerting her power over him. i would still look at it and think damn she deserves better than having to play therapist for man like that lol.

additionally, even if you ignored all of this, you cant really ignore that sasori had already known her as a child, and that had been his first and most impactful impression of her. i dont think that sasori would look at 35 year old sakura and see her as a grown woman and not the little green girl she was in the fight. plus, you easily fall into predatory comparison territory between the “childish” and “womanly” and i have seen way too often in fic just being boiled down to her now being fuckable. a lot of of ships do this and i would just like to remind yall thats it not normal for adults to want to start relationships with children they have seen grown up or known as a child when they themselves were fully grown adults. therefore, maybe if sakura hadnt met sasori before it would be less of a problem? but that also obviously defeats the point of the dynamic and the reason he died in the first place. so yeah, it sounds kind of doomed especially if you were to make it romantic. 

WHICH BRINGS ME TO THE SECOND QUESTION

let me preface this that im not fundamentally against age gaps, even if im not super interested in it. after all, colorblind had a 5 yr age gap (with sakura being 21), even if, say, i wrote similar fics today i probably would make it smaller lol. i think it can be handled well if both parties have enough life experience to deal with it, and the author is cautious of where the age gap starts, i think a 10+ year age gap would be fine in a scenario where the younger party (i guess sakura) was at least 25-27ish, meaning she has completed most of her most formative life stages and probably had been in relationships before, meaning she would be able to handle it without having to fear a huge power imbalance. the older the younger party is the less the age gap is going to matter tbh .TsukiHoshino and AngelOfDeath10 both handle age gaps in their fics really well imo, so i do not mind reading about them.

unfortunately, a lot of people in this fandom think making sakura barely "”””legal””””” (18, not even 20 which is hilarious to me because the source material is obviously japanese) because they both cannot stand her being past her “prime years” of being young fertile and fuckable to much older men as well as thinking a 20 year old is automatically old enough to handle that type of relationship. ive seen a lot of unironic takes that believe it will absolve them of callout posts if they throw around age of consent and “shes 18 now suckers!!!” enough lmfao. absolutely hilarious. aging a minor up without aging the adult down seriously reeks of predatory “cant wait until youre 18″ narratives and thats why i find it similarly disturbing as straight up pedo shipping.

ultimately, sasosaku is and will always be a inherently problematic ship in canon, which is why i think it should always be handled a little more responsibly in fandom spaces, ignoring or outright excusing the main problem factor, which is sasori, isnt going to convince anyone that the dynamic in itself is well written and interesting enough to explore in aus, like giving sasori the redemption most of us wanted him to have by aging him down to a point in time where he was still realistically going to allow being positively influenced, similar to gaara. 

so really, what i think is well handled age gap and how most people handle age gap in the naruto fandom are two different worlds at times lol 

tl;dr

canon shippers have never been anything but gross when i was younger and i didnt wanna be like that, even if youre “smart”enough to differenate, actual creeps dont really care and might use your content to blur the lines, sasori isnt rly redeemable so romantic canonverse realistically wouldnt make much sense and is still iffy, age gaps are fine if they are handled well, but given that the dynamic doesnt really need the age gap to still work im not that invested on making that an essential part of my shipping experience.
