was thinking abt this so much as I was painting lmao but like most painting tutorials I've seen can be imo too reductive in their advice around color mixing "don't darken with black & desaturate colors with their complement instead of grey" are things I see being given as like hard rules sooooo often & there's never really more of a reason given than "it'll wash out your colors" which like, yes true if you don't know what you're doing. but the core of the problem isn't that you're using black or gray. wait fuck I said grey earlier stupid awsten got into my head. ANYWAY that's not the issue the issue is that people will use those colors bcus they don't understand what they're trying to achieve with their color & just saying use complements isn't gonna solve that because like let's day you're trying to match a not super saturated shade of red to paint something. so you should use green. well WHICH green? cadmium green, viridian, permanent green light? all of these are gonna give you a VASTLY different result. so the way you should think about it is like ok I have my starting point red do I need to change the hue the value or the saturation to get it to where i want. if you KNOW you have the right hue & it just needs to be desaturated you SHOULD mix with gray because anything else is going to alter the hue!!! & if you do use a green for this bcus you also to alter the hue you need to think about if the red youre going for is warm or cool & the right green accordingly. so you SHOULD use gray and black but only once you've advanced to the point that you actually understand HOW they're used

On todays news…

For any of you who havent figured it out yet, I’m autistic. I’m okay-ish at masking, but would say I have decently high support needs. So the absolute IRONY of putting these anti-nausea motion sickness (which, is not at all what I’m experiencing and I only bought them to shut her up) on, I wanted to throw up.

OH MAN..... GODS OKAY well this is about to become me gushing about my friends, but i think everyone and their mother should be reading @raichett, @droidofmay, @good-chimes, @sillyfairygarden, @sisyphean-writes, @renardroi's writing. Like holy shit i know some incredible authors. Grim in particular went and fully changed my brain chemistry with his fic Total Apogee of the Heart, which i do believe i described to him as "like reading an oil painting," and "like you've taken an axe to my chest and deftly split it down the middle to show me the inner workings of my heart," which is truly the palest of terms i can use to describe something that ended up feeling so soul-shocking to me /pos. The skillful way he twists words to layer these rich, saturated themes into his stories makes me INSAAAAAAANE, its pretty much the epitome of how i want to write when it comes to thematic elements and imbuing my narratives with symbolism. I genuinely dont know how to describe it, but the way he crafts sentences and weaves in references to other media is like reading a fairytale, and it leaves me feeling like ive just resurfaced from a dream every time.

And, ofc, my very good and dear friend Raichett with their ACP-verse-- oh my gods what an incredible read. Reincarnation fic with modern minecraft worldbuilding FUCKING SIGN ME UP..... i think this might be my favorite fic in the fandom because truly you can just feel the heart-wrench of how long Grian has been waiting, of all those words left unsaid during his and Scar's initial conversation that we the reader happen to be privy to. AND THE SEQUEL!!! THEE SEQUELLLLL THE ONGOING SEQUEL RAAAAAAAHH okay im normal im normal im normal <- lying. It just manages to hit every fucking trope i love all at once so i start frothing at the mouth whenever it gets updated or they send me snippets. I could read Raichett's writing for hours and hours and just feel so warm within it, truly beautiful prose and characterization :]

And ohhhh Sisyphean my beloved..... if you havent been reading their anonymous scarian fic series then please please do so, especially Bread and Butterflies, a fic they gifted me that made me simultaneously want to cry and also curl up into for the rest of my life. Something about the atmosphere in their fics, along with the juxtaposition of their unique form of humor, really just knocks it out of the park for me. And, of course, the gut-wrenching wing scene-- trust me, you need to read this fic. The reveal is so incredibly well done that it feels like a gauze being lifted from your eyes so you can finally see more than the lurking silhouette of what's been hinted at. Beautiful fic and evocative writing, i dont feel like i can do it justice you're just gonna have to go read it for yourself >:]

Sorry i told you this was gonna be me gushing so i am going to gush can we talk about Droid's fucking fics please. Can we talk about those. I've always been captivated by their writing, worldbuilding, and the way they so deftly weave implications into their prose to present a fic that feels so neatly-woven it practically breathes. Every work i've ever read from them, regardless of fandom, is some of the most engaging writing ive ever read before. Not to promo a fic inspired by hunger au, but im especially enamoured with their gift will the curse be reversed if you say it backwards. Reading that was like getting kicked in the chest a billion times until it ached, and the way they portrayed the two Grian's dynamics brought me perilously close to tears multiple times while reading, which is admittedly very hard to do. Also i think reading that fic is the closest ive ever gotten to what yall experience whenever i upload a new hunger au chapter-- i stg the dread i felt as the fic progressed had me HOLLERING in their dms like "IS THIS WHAT THATS LIKE. OH MY GODS" truly just a phenomenal fic all around

Thello, oh Thello, my beloved friend, her fic you are here to risk your heart had ME heartbroken in the best of ways when i first read it, and every reread since has only solidified it as a stunning cross-section into 3L!scarian's dynamic. Thello's writing in general is always so deeply elegant and refined-- reading it feels a lot like shoving the world's richest, gooiest, most delicately-layered cake into my mouth to melt on my tongue. She just gets intimacy in a way i rarely see done, highlighting the fragile way people can come together while straining to stay apart. Her writing is so deeply, utterly human in the details she chooses to focus on, and that level of groundedness paired with her fantastical prose makes me feel like what im reading is both very real and also the whisps of a beautiful, colourful dream.

And, last but very much not least, my wonderful friend Telk. Telk's writing is so utterly unique, bursting at the seams with both humor and a quiet rawness that punches me right in the ribs every single fucking time. They're also so deeply, insanely skilled at being able to say so so much in a story while dancing around the actual core of it, drawing you into understanding whats really going on below the surface like an event horizon. Their fic A Certain Je Ne Sais What is, in my mind, a particularly good example of the subtle and skillful way they weave implications into their work-- im perpetually in awe of how meticulously they poured Grian's cognitive dissonance between how he really feels about Scar, and how he wants to feel about Scar, into the narrative. That, and their characterization is genuinely flawless, im not sure ive ever read better character voices that capture the inherent humor of their owners than in Telk's writing.

Gods i have so much more to say about so many more of my friends and their fics but i'll stop here otherwise i will never shut up. Local guy loves his friends so fucking much i will shout it to the sky any chance i can take<3

he lives very deep in the ocean almost entirely isolated, having some kind of setup i havent thought through fully ! but hes got a chaos emerald at all times with him :]! and while he is intelligent, he tends to just let himself Be Creature because he wants to! marine mobians have sophisticated methods of hunting, farming and cooking ! but he just swims around and swallows fish like a whale dfjhjhdg he bothers knuckles down in angel island regularly !! knuckles can punch so hard bc shadow used to let knuckles just punch him all the time out of annoyance, shadow used to never feel it, but now knuckles can hit hard enough to move shadow slightly ! hes also just a prick as ever sdfhhj, but hes so large that very few people ever pick a fight with him, so when he does meet a challenge hes so ready to fuck shit up >:]]]] sadly for him it never lasts long, until sonic and co i regularly think of a race scene between him and sonic, sonic on land and shadow in the water. hes so sure hes gonna win but sonic pushes thru and beats him and i . scream. he also is a very special boy and gets to communicate with Chaos regularly! he is unironically one of my most well adjusted shadows and it makes me laugh you prob know a lot of this stuff already but i hope i said something new for you !!!

the horse sculpture is sick asf!! can you give a quick run down on how to do that! 👁👁 for a friend

i honestly have no idea what im doing! So take everything i say with a grain of salt but

Get some armature wire and make a rough skeleton in the pose you want. The trick with the drill to twist wires together in this video is really handy:

Then you bulk out the "meat" with aluminum foil. Basically you dont want a HUGE variance in clay thickness because when you bake the sculpey super thick the inside wont cure which essentially causes the cured clay to crack and slough off.

Then you start to layer thin bits of worked clay onto the foil.

I really like premo sculpey for this. It basically took one 8 oz block of premo to sculpt the horse.

You just keep smoothing and refining the shapes as you go. Try to hold the sculpture gently while you work an area and have short nails!

One of the biggest things is you want to wet your fingers with a neutral oil to smooth the clay NOT water. I just used canola oil cus i had it in the kitchen already.

The other thing is you can bake in stages.

This is the sculpt right before its first bake.

The biggest hurdle is losing your established forms while trying to detail other parts. You dont have to get everything in one go and also to get a super smooth sculpt with sharp edges requires a lot of sanding.

^this is the sculpt after a first pass of hand sanding. I got a dremel to help with shaping the hooves more after these photos.

Don't try to get everything absolutely perfect before its first bake because the polish will be through sanding and you can always add more details and rebake.

This is where im at currently after sculpting the mane and tail with sculpey super firm. I think i wouldve rather used premo again, i was just trying it out. I havent done any sanding on the mane or tail yet i will be doing that once i get my primer in tomorrow.

then after sanding the primer and doing a few coats of that i will paint!

Rant on a girl who I TRUSTED but betrayed me and still acts like my friend

Ok so, there's this girl at school who I absolutely hate with all my heart and body, let's just call her Laura for now...I'm not revealing her name. So our class teacher assigned us to do a dance together, like a duo dance. I was fine with it since she was my best friend at that time. AND till this day...I havent forgiven those girls, they're still in my class and they like call me "fat" or "your hair looks ugly" while they look like literal skeletons and their hair is so dry and ashy, They tell me that my lunch is unhealthier than theirs, because they brought "Homecooked food" which contained a ton of oil. Whenever I watch someone play oni I always get so caught off guard when they cut and it's like 100 cycles later but then I remembered that most ppl actually use the fast forward buttons and I'm the weirdo who sits there at normal speed just watching large scale constructions slowly inch forwards while also pausing every other minute to plan out the next 3 projects I wanna work on next

#rat rambles #oni posting #I spent like half an hour just watching my chefs cook to make sure my new kitchen was working well #I almost have my infinite food storage finished I just need to get the area cool enough to deep freeze the food #I also sent over most of the berry sludge from my second colony since I got my second rocket built #food is very much not a problem but I am addmittedly a bit worried abt oxygen #currently its nowhere near a problem but I have been using algae still and while I have a lot I rly should start setting up long term #oxygen producers in electrolisers that arent just sitting out in the open spittibg hydrogen everywhere #but also its annoyinggggg #I have more than enough resources to make a large scale spom but Im not nearly in enough need of one to want to put in the effort #I am so good on oxygen and power rn and will be for a good while #I might just make a similar set up but just shoot the hydrogen into space and eat the power drain #I have three natural gass vents + two more on my second colony + a plug slug farm so Im like so good on power #and I havent even tapped into my oil wells yet (because theyre buried in frozen oil because rime but yknow)#rly tho the worst part abt my current playthrough is that Im starting to realize there might not be ANY slicksters in this save #the only planet with an oil biome Ive seen so far is my home colony which is yknow. rime.#and Ive uncovered a Lot of the map its basically just the far edges I dont have #so Im starting to have my doubts that I will be able to tame every critter in this save #I did find the gassy moo planet tho and I plan on getting some basic life support set up there soon #I might end up changing my mind if there genuinely arent any slickters tho cause if I cant get them all then why bother with the bad ones #ok I used to think that plug slugs werent worth the effort too and Ive been loving them so who knows maybe gassy moos will win my heart #but they do seem like a pretty rediculous amount of work for rly mediorce benifits so I doubt it #I mean hey. I got a shove vole farm set up so I dont think I can start whining now #I should probably set up more shipping and automation stuff in my ranches but tbh Im willing to just eat the dupe labor #I have like 5 ranchers and several shipping ppl most whom have nothing better to do #most of my current projects are all focused on space travel and some minor base reworks so I dont feel like its needed rn #especially since I have so much fucking food all of which is being run completely sustainably #well ok the peppernuts arent Yet but Im only domestic growing like 3 of them so Im ok for a bit #the other colony has been wild farming them for ages and have had more than enough to cook massive amounts of high quality meals #I actually set up a proper kitchen in that colony first due to how much food variety there was along with grub fruits

how to build a daily routine

its important to have a routine and stick to it. my routines give me a good start to my day and de-stresses me at night.

AM routine:

wake up at least 2 hrs before you need to leave to give ourself time and not be in a rush

oral hygiene

AM skincare routine

shower if you are a morning showerer

make breakfast

habits you could incorporate

not go on your phone for the first hour of waking

drink water as soon as you wake up

oil pull

read for 25 minutes

pray

stretch

workout

meditate

journal

make a to do list

during the day i advise to make a to do list if you havent already. if you get overwhelmed easily or cant keep on track then list three things on your to do list and focus on those. once you finish, list three more things and continue until you are done with everything.

i also think time blocking can be good use. especially if you dont know where to start and again cant keep on track.

give yourself breaks and make sure you block out time to eat and hydrate as well.

PM routine:

eat dinner

oral hygiene

PM skincare routine

clean/tidy your space

change into pj's

shower if you are a night showerer

name 3 things you are grateful for

habits you could incorporate:

sleepy time tea

stretch

read

pray

watch a movie or show

do a face mask

drink a warm drink

plan your next day

name 3 things you are grateful for different than the morning

i advise to sleep for 8 hrs every night. try to wake up and sleep at the same time everyday day. i think a morning routine should be relaxing but give you energy while your night time routine should relax you and wind you down. both routines should be relaxing because waking up stress and your cortisol levels high is not a great way to start the day and ending it stressful is also not so great.

Ragatha, Jax, Kinger, Zooble x reader but one of them cant cook (real world au)

something something the tycoon im playing on roblox keeps adding more stuff and the progress bar is at 75% and i wanna see the end of it so we're still on that grind... still writing in between so!!! yeah!! i guess this is also kind of make up stuff for neglecting this blog a bit these past few weeks, since it feels like i havent been writing as much as i used to due to other stuff... sobs ran this idea through the wheel since i dont feel like writing for everyone rn

RAGATHA:

youre the one who cant cook.... you just wanted to make something nice for her but yet here you are; trying to settle down a small fire in the oil you've just started while trying to cook dinner.. of course, your loud panicking causes ragatha to rush right in while youre panicking and trying to search for the pans lid to smother the flame... but hey look at it this way, your partner has come to your rescue, snuffing out the fire before you could.. i think ragatha would lightly scold you... she knows you were trying to do something nice for her, but if this is the outcome for things... oh but dont think shes going to ban you from the kitchen! no actually i think she might offer to teach you, or maybe you guys sign up for cooking classes together, perhaps both of you will learn something new! generally a positive thing once the emotions and adrenaline die down... though youre still temporarily banned from cooking when shes not home....

JAX:

jax is the one who cant cook. like yeah sure he can read a recipe and follow it.... okay... but i think its less of him being a bad cook and more so him wanting to do his own thing in the kitchen... which leads to him going off course and making... something alright...! usually he doesnt start a fire or make something unsafe for human consumption, but boy.... he really can make..! not FOOD but he can make! i dont think cooking classes or trying to teach him are going to do much... though, cooking WITH him might be nice... even if you have to keep an eye on him to make sure hes not doing anything diabolical... i mean, hey, bonus time and interaction with your partner, plus im always soft for scenarios of both partners cooking or baking together...!

KINGER:

honestly its a coin toss to see whos the bad cook, i think it depends on whats being cooked.... like i think kinger can make a good steak. its just the dad in him... panics if you start a fire, and remains tense about it for a long while. i think he might ban you from cooking simply because hes so scared of you getting hurt (call it him hanging on to his habits from being stuck in the circus, or him simply not wanting to have the house burn down). i dont think he would purposefully make you feel bad or baby you, but you can tell he tenses up when you offer to cook dinner that night.. i think kinger, when hes the one cooking, has a few recipes he rotates through, so theres little to no risk of messing something up.. plus routine makes him feel secure

ZOOBLE:

i can honestly see zooble being a pretty good cook! and as a quick aside i think they would be a god at making snacks, and perhaps making new and unique snacks... maybe its their looks but they look like theyd make combos that sound weird in theory but work well in practice..! i think they would be really firm in keeping you from cooking, especially if youve started a fire at least once.. just that one time is enough for zooble to put their foot down... but hey, at least youre still their little taste tester for their snacks...! probably bars you from the kitchen entirely when anything flammable is involved

hi anon. before i get into this i love you. i love when people ask me about this kinda stuff. makes me so happy. cosmetic chemistry autism.

ALSO to get your primer thing out of the way: i dont rlly use it but ive heard good things about the ELF one and my sister swears by the NYX one and her base is rlly good. so.

also i'd look on the following websites / stores:

sephora for western brands / mainstream kbeauty yesstyle for korean and japanese stuff chic decent or individual websites for chinese beauty (i usually get mine in person tho)

OK FIRST OF ALLL. starting w skincare.

i would break down your routine into three main parts: -cleansing -moisturizing / hydrating -SPF

if you wanna get fancy, you can do exfoliation between cleansing and hydrating. but you really dont have to do that if u dont want to

first: cleansing

if you wanna wear makeup you should have a good way to take it off. no. no put the makeup wipes down. they aren't efficient and u will go through SO many of them. and they're a pain and can irritate ur skin w all the wiping (trust me on this one LOL)

i would recommend using an oil based product for this!! melts ur makeup OFFFF like crazy + even if you don't use makeup it will leave ur skin super clean ^__^ ALSO you should apply this to DRY SKIN and wash it off with lukewarm water (the oil emulsifies w water and also very cold water can make it harder to remove)

if you want an oil-based makeup remover for quick removal w a cotton pad: clinique take the day off (47cad ) this one is expensive tbh and isn't as effective as the others BUT. it takes a lot less energy to use + can be done quickly. if you want a cleanser that will take off your makeup incredibly well while washing ur face: kose softymo speedy cleanser (18cad) this is my absolute FAV. i use it allll the time it works so so well and ive reccomended it to tons of ppl before and theyve all liked it. if you want a cleansing balm for heavier makeup: clean-it zero cleansing balm original (30cad) i haven't tried this one myself, but i've heard VERY good things about it.

next i would follow that up with a water based cleanser (so foaming or gel). this will help to wash away all the stuff that the oil cleanser has loosened up and will wash away leftover oil cleanser.

my FAVOURITE is the senka perfect whip cleanser (14.50cad) i adore this stuff!! ive heard some people find it very drying but i havent had that issue? idk i've also heard good things about this beauty of joseon green plum gel cleanser (14.70 cad) but i haven't used it myself. huge fan of BOJ tho!!

(this is the part where you would exfoliate if you wanted to. for a chemical exfoliant i use the giant bottle of clinique stuff my aunt got me but its not worth the price tbh. u could also try the beauty of joseon apricot peeling gel (14.70cad) IF your skin can handle it. its a physical exfoliant tho so be careful. i also enjoy the pixi glow tonic. u can get this at like shoppers or cvs or somethign idk)

second: hydrating and moisturizing

okay so. this is super important if you do a lot of makeup and thus have to wash it away thoroughly.

i start with a hydrating toner. this helps to add water to your skin and smooth it (adding water before moisturizer is a good idea bc the moisturizers will both add moisture and lock in hydration from any prev products)

i use the the I'm from rice toner (38 cad but on sale rn) which is my absolute absolute FAAAV toner. super hydrating super perfect and beautiful. stunning. (you've probably seen people talk about the cosrx snail mucin, and it is nice i will admit. but do NOT use it if you are allergic to shellfish or dust, apparently. also apply it right after your hydrating toner, it needs to be on wet skin)

then i go in with a moisturizer!! i like to use ones with niacinimide or other humectants.

my go-to is the innisfree jeuju cherry blossom dewey glow jelly (35cad) she's so important to meee <3 love her. all time fav. it is SCENTED tho, so if you don't like that, try: beauty of joseon red bean water gel (17.80cad) super lightweight and has no noticeable scent. ive heard very good things and my friend is trying it soon ^__^

finally: SPF

this is THE most important step. sunscreen. wear sunscreen.

apply your sunscreen under your makeup in the morning, and throughout the day. if you wanna reapply using a sun stick, that's great!!! but don't use a sun stick as your ONLY protection.

also i'd avoid pure mineral sunscreens unless you have a legit allergy to chemical ones. mineral sunscreens are not as good and a lot of the marketing is iffy. also they leave a white cast which is esp noticeable on darker skin. mineral + chemical ones are usually fine tho :-)

my fav sunscreen is the biore UV aqua rich watery gel / watery essence (26cad) legit the best feeling sunscreen i have EVER used. my friends who hate sunscreen like this one. there's also the beauty of joseon rice probiotic releif sun cream (24cad) which is very nice too!! not my fav but a lot of people swear by it for reapplying throughout the day, i would use the beauty of joseon matte sun stick (24cad). ive heard super good things but ihavent tried it cause im finishing my other sun stick rn lol

this is all fairly basic stuff since u said you were new to it, but i can also go thru some less necessary, more fancy products if you ever need.

as for makeup, my favourite brands are:

-flower knows -rom&nd (romand) -daisique -etude -lilybyred

and i've heard really good things about / want to try:

-colorgram -judydoll -flortte -amuse -clio -peripera -into you
