that train shooting scene is already amazing on its own but imagine how much greater it’s going to be in hindsight when we eventually get the reveal that jesper is a fabrikator

Thank you for tagging me, @flying-elliska 😻!!!!
1- how many books are too many books in a serie
Well I read Warrior Cats for a long time so I’d say that im pretty tolerant in that front 😂 but tbh, I think I could get colds feet if I learned a serie i want to begin have at least 10 books… all in all, though, I really love being able to explore more the world and the characters, I just have to be sure I will like it!
2- what do you think about cliffhangers?
I love a good cliffhanger when it jut keeps me at the edge of my feet and makes me say « omg that was brillant! » but I prefer books that end by taking their time detailing the fall out of the action and the end of characters arcs.
3- hardback or paperback?
Paperback all the way! Hardback are generally more esthetically pleasing but it just get worn out so easily and I’m not the best book keeper :(
4- least favorite book?
I’m not gonna be very original here and say Harry Potter and the Curse Child but I really can’t think of a book I disliked more than that. Everything has already been said about it, so I won’t extend too much, but yeah I was so excited to read it only for it to end up being some poor attempt at a badly written OOC fanfic. Even without the HP context, there are still so many pacing issues and characters inconsistencies. Scorpius and Albus are cute tho.
5- Love Triangle, yes or no?
I’m not that against it as most people seem to be, as I do think it can be done well. There are just certain thing that should be absent from it, like when 2 people who were super close completely turn against eachother for someone they just met because this person is just SO SPECIAL, when it’s only there to stall a relationship from happening even if it does not make sense and that we all already know who will be endgame, or when it completely takes over the otherwise very interesting characters/plot. I also hate when after having it been drained out for so long, person A does not even have to make a choice in the end because one of the two who fight for them dies/leaves. It really feels like the author simply didn’t have the guts to actually follow through besides stirring things up. It could be cool if : the two opposites actually end up together (hi lok), if it ends with all three together, or person A single. Or if it simply has more purpose than just DRAMA!
6- the most recent book you just couldn’t finish
« L’homme qui rit » de Victor Hugo. Look, it’s a fucking VICTOR HUGO book, no one can judge me! This dude could spend pages after pages detailing a facet of a snowflake! But I am determined and I WILL finish this damn book. Eventually.
7- book you are currently reading
I just finished « and they both die in the end » and I think I will start « My Dark Vanessa » by Kate Elizabeth Russel.
8- last book you recommended to someone
Percy Jackson and the lighting thief by Rick Riordan, to my little brother. I’m hoping he will have finished it before the serie (FINALLY) comes out so we can watch it together but he’s definitely not a big reader so :(
9- oldest book you read
The Odysee I guess? Does that count?
10- the most recent book you read ?
I think « and they both does in the end »is pretty new right?
11- favorite author?
I can’t really answer that it’s way too hard but I really like the style of Maxime Chattam and Pierre Botterro…
12- buying books or borrowing books?
I love the idea of buying all of your own books but unfortunately it comes with having money to spare so I’ll say borrowing ^^
12- a book you dislike that everyone else seems to love
« A quoi rêvent les étoiles » by Manon Fargetton. I’ve only seen positive reviews about it but I didn’t really like this book, altho there were some good parts. Initially I really thought it would be my cup of tea, as it is about 5 very different people having their own problems and finding eachother through pure coïncidence and helping eachother. But for one, the style was way to pretentious at times. It was like the author was trying to make a big philosophical point but it just fell flat for me. And the characters, aside from one, were all poorly handled. Either they were extremely unlikeable, completely unrelevant, or their arcs was very unsatisfying.
!!!! Spoiler alert and trigger warning for suicide !!!
the one characters story that I hated the most was the one of Luce, an old woman who is in deep grief over her husband Lucien’s death. At the beginning she tries to kill herself to join him, but is stopped by one character, and over the course of story she learns to live without her husband, to rekindle with who she is and what she loves, and to form bonds with other people. Only to still kill herself in the end. While it could have been a tragic way of showing that one does not get out of depression that easily, we’re actually supposed to think it’s a good ending for her because she died in a «cooler » and more symbolical way and cleared up some unfinished business. Personally I hated that…
14 - bookmarks or dogears?
Bookmarks can be so fucking cool (even though I lose them so easlily)!! Definitely them ;)
15- The book you can always reread?
The trilogy of Ellana Le pacte des marchombres by Pierre Botterro. Normally I don’t reread books but I reread them 4 times I think! I just love this world and characters so much 😭
16- can you read while listening to music?
Definitely not it’s too hard to focus :/
17- one POV or multi POV?
I’m a real sucker for multi POV! I just think it’s so interesting to have different’s character perspective about the same story and it can give them more depth. I finished « Six of Crows » duology not long ago and the multi POV was very well done!!!
18- do you read book in one sitting or in multiple days?
I like to savour them so I try to not read them too quickly ^^
19- who do to tag :
Ok let’s see, if they want to of course -
@awake-dreamer18 , @and-they-all-fell-down , @ghostlyruinstrash , @lamonnaie , @enola-holmess , @becks-fizz

Santa here 🎅 or Groucho 🥸 which you can call me if you want to avoid the acotar secret Santa tag! I think it’s fitting—we both wear glasses and have the same hideously bushy eyebrows. Thankfully, I do not share the mustache.
BINBONS ❤️❤️❤️ OMG. I love Shadow & Bone, books and the show. Were you around on tumblr before the show came out and the all the backstage interviews with the cast were used to create S&B reality tv show memes? They were SOOOO FUNNY, and I swear, everyone was passing them around! I used to have a blog (that I wound up deleting for reasons 🤷‍♀️) where I wrote Billy Russo imagines (mostly smut, if we’re being honest, because like…smut is just fun to write) and other Ben Barnes characters, and some Shadow & Bone. He and Charlie Hunnam are my two major weaknesses. 🤣 Don’t judge me but I really wouldn’t blame you if you did.
But I’m guessing you’re also a Shadow & Bone fan? Do you have a preference of books over the Netflix show? And the most important question—Mal or the Darkling? I’m all about the Darkling she says, surprising no one Also, if you’ve read the books, what do you think about the newer ones with Nikolai’s character? I haven’t read past the original trilogy and Six of Crows (which I personally couldn’t get into—I just couldn’t suspend my belief enough for a heist story where everyone is conveniently within a perfect teen age range and all the adults are like, WE HAVE NO ISSUES WITH TEENS IN THESE SITUATIONS AND IN FACT I TOTALLY SUPPORT KAZ BREKKER AND HIS GOONS WITH THESE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS THINGS THAT COULD COST/PAY ME A LOT OF MONEY, and then I read These Violent Delights and I was physically pained by adult mafia bosses sending their teenage children out to be badass authority figures/track down information/I can only pretend so much, okay?), but I read that the Darkling comes back?
Okay, about the age gap between Feyre and Rhys. I am SO GLAD that it’s not just me that thinks it’s a little uncomfortable for Feyre to be with a 500-year-old I really shouldn’t say anything since I’m writing an age gap story myself and having a grand old time with it buuut is it me, though, or is a trend in YA or New Adult stories to pair young women up with older guys? Like, acotar has the obvious centuries age gap. FBAA is the same. There are all the vampire stories, of course, like Twilight or TVD. In fantasy, at least, it seems to be a thing?
ALSO, what do you mean “albeit minus the violent swordplay”? Your friendships don’t involve violent swordplay? 😅 That’s not normal?
A Shadow in the Ember—GIVE ME SPOILERS. I’m like 11th in line for the ebook from my library 😭😭😭😭 which is not the longest I’ve ever waited for a book, but still! Oh, oh, but here’s my theory for the next book (or whenever he shows back up in the story, BECAUSE I DEMAND SATISFACTION FOR THIS): Malik has not actually sided with Isbeth and is playing along the same way Ian was. I really want to see some Malik/Casteel interactions, even if only in flashbacks, and I want to see Malik get a cool storyline of some kind! Also, a little less plot exposition balanced with gratuitous smut (which felt like was the bulk of book 3) would be nice. I just want more intrigue and actual story to happen. The last one felt like it dragged through parts and JLA was balancing it out with odd domestic fluff or sex until the cliffhanger. 🤦‍♀️ how about you? Any predictions or hopes?
My pup is fine, btw—fine-ish. He had luxating patella, which is a fancy way of saying that his kneecap won’t stay in position (please don’t be offended if I’m assuming you don’t know about dogs and you do), which is typical of smaller breeds since smaller bones mean less space for kneecaps. So, his was out more than it was in, and on top of that he tore his ACL, so he could barely walk on that leg and it had to be surgically fixed. He’s still in pain, though, so he has to go back to the vet this week 😣 do you have any pets? Are you a cat or a dog person?
I know Bitten! I haven’t really read the books, but I have seen the TV show (which I’m sure is basically a separate thing with how many changes they made, because that’s how it always happens!), which I LOVE. Even though they have this weird fascination with showing off Clay’s bare ass every chance they get. 😂 Have you seen the show? Does it compare well, or is it a poor bastardization of the books?
I have a confession—I have not watched Bridgerton yet (although I love Alex Meyers commentary on it on YouTube, about how it’s a Gossip Girl story about the perils of being the only redhead in England 🤣 ) and I’m not an Outlander fan. I started the books and show for Outlander a while ago and I just couldn’t get into it (as much as the actors for the show are amazing), but I’m generally not too into time travel stories, anyway. Not sure why, it’s just not a thing I’ve enjoyed most of the time? 🤷‍♀️ But, so, IS Bridgerton worth the watch, or are the books better? Because I’ve heard of Lisa Kleypas, but I’ve never tried her books.
ALSO—ALSO. Oh hell, I’m just going to save your whole post so I can find all the book recs and then kiss any social life I have goodbye because there are too many books to read and I’m sure everyone will understand that right?
Also stole your notes hack and wrote this out completely there beforehand so I could just copy and paste 🤣 so thank you for that!
Okay, as a fellow BlindTM person and a fan of alliteration, I’m calling you ‘spectacle santa’ from here on in hahaha.
Yes, I’ve been an S&B book fan for a long time and was SO PUMPED to see how they incorporated the SOC lore and characters into the show. I was not part of the tumblr fandom for the show but I’ve been following the Grishaverse subreddit and most of the memes either got cross-posted there or my friend would text them to me later. I never watched The Punisher and tbh didn’t even realize Binbons was in it until your message (and me googling Billy Russo in confusion). I’ve been semi-following his career since Prince Caspian but other than Dorian Grey and Westworld muuuuuch later, I kind of lost track of what he was up to until S&B.
The only thing I’ve seen Charlie Hunnam in is Crimson Peak, but even just from that I can totally see the appeal. Also omg this is a judgement free zone in terms of fandom behaviour. I have truly seen it all and been part of my fair share of cringeworthy fandom stuff in the past (I can’t figure out to put the wincing emoji face here but just imagine it is).
I looooooooove show Mal (Archie was PERFECT casting) and I tolerate book Mal, but tbh I am ride or die for Nikolai. Like, when they announce the actors for season 2 I am going to pass out. He is my Nesta of the Grishaverse. Segueing into your next q, I’ve read KOS and ROW and while I really, really loved KOS, ROW felt like fan service and tbh kind of reminded me of ACOFAS in that I was like … am I on ao3 right now???? I don’t want to spoil you but there’s a plot line with a major character that made absolutely no sense to me and that I’m still scratching my head over. Anyway, would say KOS is worth it if you like Nikolai, otherwise don’t bother (though, yes, the Darkling does come back but in a weird, wattpad-esque way that I personally did not vibe with At All.)
And omggggg yes seriously the ages of the characters in SOC made absolutely no sense and I always mentally age them up to at least early twenties. I think of myself back when I was a dumbass 17 year old and like … sometimes I think it’s a miracle I survived to adulthood. I actually just picked up a copy of These Violent Delights as a Christmas gift for myself (it’s my first Christmas away from my family so I thought I’d buy a few things and wrap them up so I have something to open on the 25th like a total dork) so I will get back to you on that after I’ve read it.
In general, significant age gaps are one of my big No’s of fiction and unfortunately fantasy is full of them. Like, Bella and Edward was hard enough for me to swallow because he was literally (like, the literal version of literally) old enough to be her grandfather. I don’t care if Rhys/Cassian/Az are all physically young and hot still, they are mentally 500 freaking years old but somehow only possess the mental maturity levels of frat boys in their early 20s. SJM seems to have a real obsession with these gigantic age gaps in all of her books and I am just Not About It.
I haven’t actually gotten too far into ASITE yet (I’m racing against the clock to finish my pile of library books before they’re due) but I am really enjoying what I’ve read so far (more than I did the first Blood & Ash book actually but I am also meh about Casteel which didn't make his whole thing with Poppy very compelling for me).
I LOVE YOUR THEORY. I am super intrigued by Malik’s true allegiance and I looooove storylines about family feuds and strife and drama, so there’s so much juicy story potential I can’t wait to read about in the next book.
I also want more actual story earlier. The vast majority of her books is just ‘we walk and talk here, we walk and talk there, we sleep in this inn, we walk and talk somewhere new, oh look more sleeping somewhere else’ and THEN she’ll throw some giant plot twist in at the very end (which is actually not all that different from ACOSF but I actually enjoyed all the character development in that case because I want Nesta to marry me)
I’m so glad to hear your dog is fine! I had a friend in high school who had the same problem (her kneecaps kept moving around and she wore knee braces for years before eventually having surgery for it). I hope the vet is able to make the residual pain go away, poor pup :( I don’t currently have a pet but my roommate has a cat who I ADORE and I basically get all the benefits of pet ownership with none of the responsibilities, it’s a pretty sweet set up hahaha. I am equally a cat and dog person though! I fostered a dog about a year ago back when I was quarantining with my parents and it was such a great experience. I hope to eventually get my own dog.
Omg I could not get through Bitten the show, to me it was a terrible adaptation but I also hold the book in really high regard so my standards probably weren’t very fair. I highly, highly suggest giving the book a try because it’s just excellent and there’s this whole [note that I had to stop writing here to go pick up and cuddle my roommate’s cat who was crying for attention in the other room but who is now purring away next to me on my bed] fun supernatural world with all of these awesome characters over the span of like 13 books to explore. It’s one of my comfort series, for sure (though of course … there is an Age Gap romance in the last couple of books but I just cringe my way through it).
LOL at the Gossip Girl/perils of being a redhead thing re: Bridgerton. I enjoyed the show, it’s a lot of fun and a great watch over the holidays, but IMO the books were better. Book 2 is AMAZING so I’m so excited about season 2, and if we ever manage to get to book 6 I will be overjoyed because it’s the best in the series IMO.
Outlander definitely isn’t for everyone, that’s totally fair! I’ve been a fan for a very, very long time and it was one of my earliest fandoms (back when it was awkward teenage me and a bunch of middle aged women leaving comments on an old-school message board years before the show was ever a thing) so it will always have a big soft spot in my heart. I love time travel romance as a genre so if that genre doesn’t appeal to you, Outlander definitely isn’t the right fit.
I did the same thing as you and immediately filed away the books recs you gave on goodreads, I can’t wait to see how many of them are already available to borrow at the library!
And I’m going to go back and tag all of our chats with ‘spectacle santa’ so you can always find them that way later ;)
I HOPE YOUR WEEK IS OFF TO A BEAUTIFUL START, MY FELLOW BESPECTACLED FRIEND <3 Did you get up to anything exciting this weekend btw?

This is the last part of me providing my Thoughts™ and Feelings™ about Shadow and Bone as I watch it 'cos this one is about the finale:
They brought back Alina and Mal reaching out for each other, and oh, boy, was that heartbreaking! It’s so well done yet so painful
Mal's turn-around of "Time will do it for me" to "Your past will do it for me” when he let the volcra get the Darkling was so good. I literally clapped, even though I knew the Darkling would, obviously, live
Also, the ending of the Darkling emerging from the Fold after Alina and Mal saying he’s dead was a great yet predictable (in a good way) transition. And the way the Darkling said, “Follow,” and the merzost just came with him was chilling. That was a perfect way to end the first season in my opinion
Not to brag, but I said three things before Jesper, one before Kaz, and one before Nina. I think my theory about absorbing the Crows' personalities is more true than I initially thought it was
Remember how I mentioned how the ugliness and asymmetry of the antlers in Alina’s collarbone was such an amazing parallel to the pain she is in? Well, her absorbing the antlers altogether after releasing herself from the Darkling’s control and realising the stag chose to give her its power is just. . .WOW. I honestly don’t know how to express how beautiful that was
Also, my best friend did bring up a good point: where did the antlers go? Did they just go further into her body? Did she legit consume them into her body and they’re just gone? What happened? 😂
Can I talk about Nina and Matthias for a hot second? I honestly don’t think I felt so much for Helnik when I read the Six of Crows duology as I did in this last episode, so I have a lot to say. The chemistry is straight from the pages of the books, but it’s so much different physically seeing them interact than just reading about it. It’s also different ‘cos we are seeing the relationship develop between them than being thrown in the middle of it with backstory being sprinkled throughout the progression of their story. The two of them flirting and being cute was so lovely, but the fear in Nina’s eyes when she knows she has to make a horrible decision between Matthias being arrested or being killed and then the betrayal that is written all across Matthias’ face in that cell on the ship was just devastating
I know this isn't about this episode, but I realised I forgot to mention it attached to episode 6 (I think), but Ivan threatening Jesper with him knowing what he is was dastardly. Like, I know you have to have read the books to know what Ivan was saying 'cos Jesper cuts him off, and I love little Easter eggs like that for us, but the foreshadowing of that shit was good. Leave the people who haven't read the books with questions and the people who have in anticipation! God, I love that!
Jesper still missing Milo is so precious and, I hate to say it, a mood ‘cos me too. I wanted to see a surprise appearance from the darling goat, but I will take Jesper bringing him up twice as compensation
Speaking of Jesper being a mood, Jesper begging for the reassurance that Kaz has got their backs with a plan was so painfully relatable. Bro, I would have done the same thing in that situation
It hurts me on a spiritual level to be aware that five out of the six Crows were on that boat at once. I need Wylan. Y’all, season 2 better happen 😭
And I want more interactions between Inej and Alina and between Inej and Zoya. That shit makes my Sapphic heart go berserk. You can’t look me in the eyes and say there isn’t the least bit of gay tension between these women. And that means I am so looking forward to Inej and Nina interacting; I may pass out
In addition to that, Kaz saying he needs Inej added five years to my life. And I think the happiest he looked all season was when Inej said she’d go with him to pay off Heleen and then decide what to do from there. And Kaz being a believer is ✨bonkers✨ in the best way possible
Lastly, to end with something about my boy, Jesper saying that he still couldn’t shoot Ivan’s pretty face was fucking great. I also died laughing at him saying that the true wealth was the friends they made along the way ‘cos of course Jesper is going to be the one to make a real-world meme reference and, on top of that, make it about the goat! Amazing, beautiful, wonderful. As always, I love him dearly
My final thoughts on the show as a whole is that it is a great adaptation of the books, especially with the blending of the storylines from the trilogy and the Six of Crows duology. The pacing was something I honestly had to adjust to, considering I know so much of the source material, but I think it worked and was a good choice to help viewers unfamiliar with the books understand what is happening. And even though I’ve read the books, I was pleasantly surprised with the numerous twists and turns; I was invested in the show as a whole, not just for the familiar characters and storylines (that was just a bonus, tbh). I genuinely love this show and am willing to say it is now tied for my favourite television show with Orphan Black and Good Omens. I’m hoping desperately for a season 2, not just for Wylan and Nikolai, but because this was truly so beautiful and brought me a lot of happiness and peace during one of the scariest and most stressful times in my life
I just want to thank anyone who has read any of these things I've written about the show. I truly didn't expect anyone to read them or even really care about what I thought or felt, but it does mean a lot that some of you are willing to read them at all and then even give them a like. This is just the adaptation of my favourite book series and knowing other people are caring about and even enjoying my reactions is so pleasant and comforting. Thank you 💕
If you want to check out my other Thoughts™ and Feelings™ about this first season, here are the links to those posts: Episode 2, Episodes 3 and 4, Episode 5, and Episodes 6 and 7

Hellooo Shadow & Bone/Six of Crows anon back because I have thoughts about your thoughts and physically need to talk about this show. I am also so ???? about the show giving Inej a brother I don't really get where they are going with it they kinda dropped that line and then moved right along. I also didn't love the change they made with Inej not being bought out from Heleen? I felt like they could've added a similar tension to what they did with that plot line just by keeping it with Per Haskell and then managed to incorporate him imo but beggars can't be choosers. I *get* why they had to soften show!kaz but I also just really wanted to see more absolutely feral Kaz so it was just a dilemma. It has been literal years since I read Shadow and Bone so I know nothing about those characters but was also deeply uncomfortable with the Darkling sleeping with Zoya implication and just the Darkling altogether why is this ancient man in a teenage love triangle.
spoilers under the cut as well as abuse mentions/grooming mentions sort of please let me know if you’d like me to tag this something else too!
oh yeah i forgot about the heleen thing! agree i don’t know if show viewers could parse that like why... is she on loan....who’s paying for her contract... it didn’t make a ton of sense. her brother... hmm!
but i am still holding out hope for kaz ripping out oomen’s eyeball so we’ll see! i’ve seen others say they thought kaz got toned down so he didn’t come off a villain (since he’s sharing screen time with the darkling) which might’ve been part of it for sure
look i know the dark/linas are wilding out here on an everyday basis BUT as someone who’s read the books quite a lot — it becomes increasingly obvious on each successive reread that he’s not supposed to be read as a love interest. he was obviously a villain, a manipulative older man you’re supposed to be wary of even as he wins an impressionable young girl over. like, he stops being a prospective love interest literally at the end of s&b — for the rest of the series it’s preeeetty obvious that alina won’t become evil and help him, and even the nugget of possibility that he’ll be redeemed isn’t really, like, in a love triangle-y sense. i thought the show played that really well, and it’s a testament to ben barnes’s acting. he toed the line between scary and humanised so well (particularly in that kiss scene, which he improvised) and i have no doubt he will get much scarier in future seasons (which tracks with the books as well). again in the context of genya’s warning “beware of powerful men” the darkling is...a well-written villain, to me! add to all of that in-text context the fact that the author talks about how she wrote the books thinking of an abusive relationship she was trapped in....that’s no longer subtext!
like, any good love triangle represents not just “ooo which boy do i love” but also a philosophy of life the heroine is deciding between (see the hunger games). what i like about this “triangle” (or rather, square???) is that alina has several “choices”: 1. the darkling, unbridled power, rule by fear and respect; 2. mal, her childhood dreams, safety, peace, understanding, a home; 3. nikolai, repair and rebuilding, responsibility, idealism, power with checks and balances, rule by mutual respect.
but it becomes clear to alina that “choice” #1 is not a choice — it robs her of autonomy — and she struggles to think what autonomy will be offered to her with #3 too. i’m not defending the trilogy’s ending, which i’ll forever be HMMMM about, but i think there is 100% a purpose to the darkling being in this triangle and the show is so far doing a better job (perhaps with the benefit of hindsight plus the uh character improvements to mal showing him as a viable romantic alternative lmfao) with hinting at that, to me!
also i’m guessing if you haven’t read the trilogy in a while you probably haven’t read the follow-up series. but i’ll just say it’s abundantly clear that zoya saw the darkling as a mentor figure and felt betrayed by his evilness as a student and someone who looked up to him. i feel sorry that they’ve decided to change that perspective
i have strong opinions LMAO

Hello bookworms! Today I’m doing my first (I think it’s my first??) book tag! I know this one’s a bit older and most people have done it already, but I feel like I have some unique opinions and really wanted to try it myself. Hopefully this won’t be boring for you guys!
I wasn’t actually tagged to do this, but I saw it most recently done by Book Princess Reviews, and loved it! So I took the liberty of just doing it myself, lol.
Here we go! You can click on the photos of each book to see their Goodreads page.
A Popular Book or Series that You Didn’t Like
Oh, how I just love to hate on a series that everyone else enjoys. Okay, that’s a bit harsh, since I didn’t actually hate this. I enjoyed the idea of the Zodiac planets and the people’s special characteristics, but the rest was one big flat-line for me. The main character was bland, the romance was an eye-roll, and I barely remember the rest. It’s probably not the most loved YA series, but more people seem to like it than I certainly did.
A Popular Book or Series that Everyone Else Seems to Hate but You Love
At the wee age of 13, I picked up Shadow and Bone, and fell in love—hard and fast. Ever since, my heart has belonged to the Grishaverse. It’s my home. I often see people complaining that the Grisha trilogy is not as good as Six of Crows, and a part of my soul shrivels up into a weak, dead thing. I definitely get why people don’t like this as much as SoC, but I can’t help mentally screaming, “THIS IS SUCH DISRESPECT FOR SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SERIES WHY DO YOU HURT ME LIKE THIS!!!” Moral of the story is: don’t criticize any part of the Grishaverse unless you want Mia to be very, very sad.
An OTP You Don’t Like
To be frank, I didn’t care for most of this series, so I can’t blame it all on the romance. But as this series progressed, I cared for Kestrel and Arin less and less. *Spoiler Alert!!!* It was really the sequel that ruined it for me, and the perpetual tension of “will-they-won’t-they-get-back-together.” I really do like romantic tension, but in moderation. This spanned the length of the entire book, until it became implausible and ridiculous. After that, Kestrel and Arin were just annoying to me.
A Popular Book Genre that You Hardly Reach For
Probably historical fiction! I actually LOVE historical fiction, but have only read a handful of books in that genre. If you have any historically-based faves, send those recs my way!
A Popular/Beloved Character that You Do Not Like
I’m actually going to choose a character duo for this: Hanna and Nik. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Hanna and Nik, and love this series to death!! But compared to Kady and Ezra, Hanna and Nik left something to be desired. They fit the standard YA protagonist archetypes, and I felt like I had read about many Hannas and Niks before. Kady and Ezra, on the other hand, are a little quirky and have much more stylized personalities, so I preferred them a bit more.
A Popular Author You Can’t Seem to Get Into
I read Me and Earl and the Dying Girl a couple girls ago and, to be perfectly honest, despised it. Even now, I think it’s my least favorite book I’ve ever read. The weird jokes, second-hand embarrassment, and lack of obvious plot just were not for me. Interestingly enough however, I actually saw Jesse Andrews at YALLFest and thought he was hilarious in real life! But something about his writing style and characters doesn’t appeal to me.
A Popular Book Trope You’re Tired of Seeing
This one also took a little bit of thinking, since there are quite a few tropes I don’t like. But the one I’m choosing to complain about highlight today is: fake deaths. So many books (and movies/TV shows) kill off an important, usually endearing character around the halfway point. I can ALWAYS, 100% OF THE TIME, tell when the character’s not actually dead. To me, it sticks out like a sore thumb in the plot. I’m not shocked or even sad, because I just know the character’s going to come back. Then it becomes an irritating wait until the person miraculously shows up again.
A Popular Series You Have No Interest in Reading
I’m sort of cheating with this category, cause I actually read the first five books in The Mortal Instruments. But I really only liked the first three books, and now there are so many spin-offs and novellas, that I can’t keep up. Cassandra Clare was not my favorite to begin with, and I don’t have the mental or emotional energy to catch up with so many books in the same series. So I definitely won’t be reading these anytime soon.
The Saying Goes, “The Book is Always Better Than the Movie,” but What Movie or TV Show Adaptation Do You Prefer More Than the Book?
This one is actually quite easy for me. The Twilight series is definitely not a favorite of mine, I preferred the movies to the books because the plots always had more action. I mean, that plot-twist-not-really-a-plot-twist at the end of Breaking Dawn Part 2 had us all screaming in the theaters, but it was also a great way of allowing the audience to experience the climactic battle scene we never got in the book. And across all the movies, they omitted my number one issue with the books: Bella’s dreadful narration.
And that’s it! I’m not going to tag anyone, since most of people have probably already done this tag, or something like it. But I had a fun time ranting about my favorite likes and dislikes, so I hope you all had a fun time reading!
Do you agree or disagree with any of my bookish opinions? What would you put for each of these categories?

Unpopular Book Opinions Tag Hello bookworms! Today I'm doing my first (I think it's my first??) book tag! I know this one's a bit older and most people have done it already, but I feel like I have some unique opinions and really wanted to try it myself.
