Do you have any tips on how to start learning how to draw digital art?

Hello! Some tips for just starting out:

• Try out different programs! I personally use procreate on the iPad, but there’s also ibis paint, clip studio paint, paint tool sai etc! See what one works best for you! ☺️

• You don’t have to buy anything super expensive! If you’re just starting out, a $50 tablet will be just as good as a $500 one! You can also get a used iPad if you want to go that route!

• Look up tutorials on YouTube! There’s usually a lot of videos when you’re just starting out to learn the program you want to use and how/what certain things are! (It took me longer to learn what a clipping mask is than I care to admit lmao ❤️)

• To add on to the last one, I think watching art process videos can be helpful too! A lot of artists have little tips and tricks and usually explain what they’re doing as they’re doing it.

• And most of all, don’t give up! Digital art takes awhile to learn and you never stop learning! ☺️ There’s always something new to try or different techniques to experience with! It took me quite awhile to get the hang of digital art and there’s still more to learn!

This might come off as weird, but, what are the easy to understand rules for commissioning people?? I’ve tried for years to get my confidence up enough to be able to commission art from someone, but every time I get too scared I’ll accidentally do/say something wrong. It seems like one of the most stressful things ever! What’s your secret?

Hey there bud! I totally get the nervousness, I was so fuckinnnnnnn afraid i'd do things wrong my first time commissioning someone. I'm by no means an expert on social and monetary interactions, but these are sort of what i've stumbled across over time!

The most important thing is to know what you want, and check any FAQ or do's and dont's from the person you're commissioning! Make sure your choice of commission is within the range of what they will do, this avoids any immediate discomfort or guaranteed denials of commission. If you have a pose or setting in mind, try to find reference for that as well or have a very very solid description.

If you want a character from a show/game/etc, there's lots of references out there but it's still good to compile a few very clear shots of the character for clothing/color reference! If you want an OC, having a solid reference for the oc or a very very detailed description is also a must! The artist can not make art you want based off of having no clue what it needs to look like.

Also make sure you have payment ready up front, some artists like immediate payment, some like after the first sketch, some even will take payment after it's done! Having your funds organized ahead of time makes it easy to work through payment whenever the artist requires it.

And as for social aspect, relax!!! The artist put their commission sheet out there to gain commissioners! They want this to go as well as you do, and communication back and forth throughout the process will feel so much more enjoyable if you just take a breath and know they aren't expecting perfection from you. It's okay to ask for changes as you get sketch updates (within the parameters of what you wanted from the start, do not suddenly change the entire piece) the artist is trying to make the piece you asked for. They can't see inside your mind, help them understand as the process continues so you're both happy when they start refining the piece.

At the end of the day, you're asking for a piece that will make you happy, and the artist has a customer and activity within their interests that could make them happy. Just be nice and get excited! My favorite part of commissioning, hands-down, is if I hear an artist say they enjoy working on the piece i've asked for, or that I was nice to work with.

Should I watch rwby?

That depends entirely on your preferences tbh!

The animation style can be a little weird to get used to, but there's also an anime called RWBY: Ice Queendom that was released a little while ago that practically sums up the first season whilst also adding its own story. It's only twelve episodes, so it may be worth checking that out first to get a quick summary and feel for the show and universe before you commit to watching the full nine seasons of the actual canon show, but it's up to you!

The episodes are a lot shorter compared to standard shows/anime, averaging around 15-20 minutes in later seasons whilst the first season they're like, six minutes long lmao. Also, the voice acting in the first few seasons is… not great, BUT if you can get past that it gets a lot better! I think most fans agree that the third season is the best.

There's... a lot of things that people criticise about RWBY and its writing/characters, as well as controversy surrounding the company that makes it (which is actually being shut down but I digress--) but I still enjoy it a lot and keep finding myself coming back to it because I love most of the characters and the setting a lot.

You can find short trailers for each of the main four girls here to get an idea of what the characters are like and what their stories entail!

I'm mainly looking for requests that challenge fundamental skills and push me a bit outside of my usual habits. I have a horrible tendency of playing it safe and hope that by asking other people for input I will find a wide range of things to practice. That said I'm still trying to pick and choose things that feel like they are close to my current style!

So with that in mind you can totally ask for characters from shows, ocs, video game characters, etc.

I'm willing to do cartoon characters (and the like) redesigned into my style and so on, but if the character itself is designed in a way that it would take A LOT of time for me to figure out how to translate it into my style then I give it a pass.

hello lovely! I'm new to making gifs and I need your help. every time I sharpen a gif it always never saves as a gif, it instead saves as a jpeg image :(

hello! welcome aboard the wonderous world of gifmaking!

saving settings definitely confused me at first, too!

there is a whole bit with saving if you use the timeline option - i haven't sharpened gifs the traditional way in a long time - but i have tutorials on hand for that if you need!

but make sure you are going to 'file --> export --> save for web (some version of ps have 'legacy'). every gifmaker has their preference for saving settings, but here are mine: (it'll be under the 'keep reading' because my ps is slow and won't let me resize rn) i only ever mess with selective/adaptive and diffusion/pattern - although it can depend on the gif, play around! but 90% of the time i will use selective/diffusion

Idk new post bc the last lost traction, no donations in a week. We need 450 for the rest of February, 450 for a deposit, and 950 for March, 50 for the rest of the utilities. We were homeless since Aug 2020 excepting 4 different months whose places fell through for various reasons, have to get rid of the van we were living in because it's falling apart, Collie got FFS December 28th, she's recovering well and maybe could do something with a car if we had a better car, given her ability to drive.
