Idk if you still do the “5 facts for AU” asks, but how about a Skrael-left-the-Arcane-Order-AU?

Okay, so first off, let me just get this out of the way: I will pretty much always be taking asks for ask memes, even after I unpin them.

Second off: I did not mean for this to be so dark when I started typing, but also my headcanons for the Arcane Order are kind of dark and depressing. Oops.

In this AU, it is Skrael instead of Nari who leaves. She sees the pain, and suffering, and it hurts so much. They want it all to end. She wants to break the Genesis Seals so they won’t be in pain anymore. She doesn’t care what will happen to them when the Seals are broken, they just want her pain to be gone.

Skrael doesn’t leave because he loves humans. They leave because he was around when the world first became cold, and it is lonely and boring. Sure, humans may be a violent mess and many humans are killing off magic, but enough of them have magic that they’re funny enough to keep around.

Skrael doesn’t like Merlin. He isn’t amusing enough, and Skrael ends up living in a castle fueled by time itself. There’s so much green light. He misses Nari.

The Earth warms. The ice caps begin to melt at a faster rate than they should. Skrael wonders if protecting humanity was worth it. The melting of the ice hurts, though the way that the polar vortex dips down is a balm to their pain.

And then, Merlin returns with humans and trolls. They are far more amusing than Merlin, Galahad, and the enchanted suits of armor are.

Nari binds everyone in vines and roots, as opposed to ice with rude words scrawled upon it. Camelot crumbles as nature reclaims it.

It is much harder to hide from the Arcane Order, given that Nari can sense souls. Skrael is able to hide them by reducing everyone’s body temperature, but he can’t do so for long as it would kill the humans (and possibly also damage the trolls, though that would take longer). Skrael encourages Claire to look for Jim in the Shadow Realm; she will be one less person for Skrael to spend their energy hiding.

Bonus: assuming the battle in “Our Final Act” ends up being about the same as it does in canon (as opposed to Skrael somehow sacrificing themself so that his, Nari’s, and Bellroc’s pain can finally end without ending all life on Earth), then Skrael is delighted to learn about how humans will create art out of ice. They really like it when they build a snowman with Douxie.
