Thanks to EVERYONE'S recommendations on my post about How Do I Get A Knitting Circle To Adopt Me - A Woodcarver - Into Their Group, I have discovered:

My local library has a knitting/crochet club that welcomes other crafts, too! I will be attending that tomorrow, so maybe they'll adopt me!

There's a local woodcarving group that has monthly meetups! Granted it meets at a senior center and membership is encouraged which I can't do obviously but I'm going to see if that's like, a hard line or not

There are a couple small, independent craft stores that might have leads on more groups, I'll be trying to hit those up in the next few weeks and see if they have any leads!

My witchy shop used to have crafting meetups, I saw it on old FB events! That will be starting back up again soon, so I can hit that up too!

And here's a tentative one - there were so many others like me who expressed the same sadness of not being able to find a little crafting group where we could all work on our respective crafts and just have fun with crafty friends and learn neat things. So I'm talking to a friend about how complicated it would be to set up a discord server for us, because gd it, I know we all live far apart but if there's a way for all of us to do a craft night together once a month or whatever and become crafty friends, we should be able to do it, along with showing off our interesting things we make in between! So put a pin in this one, since I've only ever used discord, not really run one, but if I can make it work, I'm going to try when I have some time.

one thing i like about the new job is that public service really drives home how diverse and interesting any random sample of people actually is. you kind of can't keep thinking that there's one single way in which ordinary life typically goes when you're dropped into the middle of other people's lives on a daily basis. like within two weeks at a public service job in the most boring town imaginable someone will come in and be like hi i'm blind, can i have some adjustments for my advanced degree. hi my grandmother died, can i have an extension. hi i moved here from taiwan literally two months ago and misunderstood some instructions, can i repeat this process. hi i'm competing at the olympics, can i put my studies on hold.

there's just this certain kind of rhetoric that wants to make you belive that A Normal Person is this or that and their life goes this or that way, when really there's no limit to the chaos of human experience or to the endlessly new-shuffled variations of Circumstances and i'd defy anyone who believes otherwise to keep believing it after one day in public service

I got so caught up in the euphoria of new Star Trek that I forgot SNW has some of my least favourite writing of the new shows. I think I’m frustrated with it because there are so many aspects I SHOULD like! On paper I SHOULD like this show more than I do! I just do not vibe! :(

I'm currently playing the Ace Attorney trilogy on Switch. Do you have any thoughts on Case 1-5? (I certainly do but I'll make my own post in due time.)

Case 1-5 is Rise from the Ashes, right? It's been awhile since my deep-dive into AA, but I remember really loving the intrigue of that case. It's not my most beloved case (that probably goes to Turnabout Goodbyes), but I remember really enjoying the twists and turns of how the story for Rise from the Ashes unfolded. I really love Ema too, although she unfortunately doesn't make a story appearance after this for a while in the mainline games. Also it's always fun to make fun of Edgeworth's garish bright red car, which makes its debut in this case...what a hideous car, he never gets rid of it either, I love it.

5. Fanfic pet peeves

I hate to be an English teacher about this but improper grammar, punctuation, and paragraph breaks KILL me in fanfic. I know fic is a space for writers to learn and grow but oh man I can't stand it. Sometimes it's not so bad and I literally just rewrite it in my head as I read but especially with dialogue if it's not punctuated properly I will nope out of it.

I also don't care much for first person, and will often nope out of a fic if it's in first person. I really couldn't tell you why. It's like a cat touching a bathtub. I open it, I see the wet, and I get out. I'll only read a first person POV if it comes highly recommended by a trusted friend.

23. Favorite trope to write

It's probably no surprise, but I love an AU. I love taking characters from one setting and putting them into a new setting with new problems.

I used to love high school AUs when I was in school but now writing a high school AU feels like going to work. Even college AUs don't appeal to me. Harry Potter AUs were this super cool blend of school AU and magical AU and I used to love sorting characters but now those have a bad taste, too, so my favorite is probably fairy tale AUs, which I've done for Percy Jackson and am working on for Ladybug.

Funnily enough, I don't read alternate setting AUs too often? When it comes to reading I often prefer like, alternate timelines, more small changes in line with the Harry Potter Everyone Lives AU or other fun potential breaking points from canon.

the elden beasts theme sounds rlly divine and serene overall, and i love that a lot, but i also really really REALLY love and appreciate the one part with the strings. it captures the feeling of this fight being the final stretch, so to speak, so so well imo, and it rlly stands out to me bc of how heroic & hopeful it sounds. it feels like its cheering u on, which is so unusual for a theme accompanying the final battle of a fromsoft title.. and i while i will probably never get enough of the beautiful tragedy present in other such themes, i welcome this change in tone wholeheartedly tbh.

#i guess it was to be expected from a game with such an epic & heroic main theme #its been noted before but elden ring is just. so much fuller of life and hope as a whole compared to like.. all the other souls games #its so refreshing #like dont get me wrong i still LOVE all the other games' worlds and vibes/tones #dark fantasy rules when its done right and immersing yourself in hopeless worlds can be weirdly comforting (to me at least) #especially w/ fromsofts approach where they still show u glimpses of humanity and kindness and beauty throughout your journey #and the lands between are actually full of tragedy perils and ruin as well #but its still a world thats very much alive. its a living breathing world and just this once it can be saved #isnt that neat? i think its pretty neat. #elden ring spoilers #ER #sorry i beat the game not too long ago and im still Processing it all. many thoughts head full

Going through my drafts and i realize i never posted that update about this date i had with this guy last august

#it was a SO FUN but also a complete disaster #i feel bad bc like the first two dates went really well and i was feelin him but i was still like. really not doing good #bc of my job and still getting used the grief at the time so i eas exhausted and trying so hard to mask #anyway that third date we had i was tired i was hurting everywherte for no reason i eas grouchy and yes he still put up with me #which was moreso his anxiety ramping up at my avoidance but we laughed about it later #we were supposed to see a movie but the outdoor theatre he took me to was 4 hours away from my apartment. i didnt bring my phone charger #bc i thought it was the one 30 minutes away so my shit died in the middle of the drive back home. his did too. we were officially lost 4 hrs #away from the city bc we were using google maps up til then. so we were talking otw to the nearest gas station (it was 1am atp) #and i was like Dude im so sorry but i dont think this is gonna work and he was so relieved bc he didnt either #plus he planned to move like a few months later n i wanted sumn a lil longer so we ended up just beim friends afterwards #which was cool bc he was a genuinely neat dude! but we were still lost btw and it was almost 2 so we like #had to share a charger in his minivan charging port and wait til our phones had enough juice to run google again #it was like 5am by the time i got back home i had work later that night and i barely got any sleep #*** if youre out there i hope youre doing ok #i say this like i dont have his snap actually i should hit him up sometime #anyway #mag.txt
