Were there any specific media/cultural inspirations for your OCs? Ones like Polka especially stand out to me, really neat design!

To keep it short and sweet so you can stop reading here:

I am very heavily influenced by anime and video game character design. When I'm creating a character, I try to cram lots of different references that are slightly consistent ^^" Funny you bring Polka up though, she's the best example of this!

I put this whole chart together to sort of visualize my erm... creative vision/inspirations I suppose:

It probably isn't too obvious, but Miss Polka here is actually a Cave Story fan character!

So for you who do not know, there is an old witch woman named Jenka present in Cave Story. Her name is very interesting because:

and I was like: "Alright, I'll name my witch character off of a traditional dance/song as well because that would be really funny huehueheuheuheueu xddddd"

And that's how I ended up with Polka's name! The polka is also a folk dance, and has a cute outfit for the dancers~ So i took some inspiration from it when designing her outfit ^^

Polka is a young witch... and Misery's apprentice. So Misery unsurprisingly was a really big influence when I was designing Polka. I tried to keep as many things as I could from Misery, like her hair and accessories... but I mostly took her color palette lol

Also hey!! Sue's here, what's up with that??! Well, that's a bit of a secret~ I can't tell you, hehe! But just know that she helped out lots when trying to decide personality traits for Polka and bits of her design as well :>

Anime/JRPG stuff has a chokehold on me, a lot of my artwork and characters are influenced by it

Some of the inspirations at the top of my head for Miss Polka are things like Genshin Impact (kill me) and the Sailor Soldiers (the CLASSIC magical girls, they're too iconic to not think abt >:D)

There isn't too much thought between the tail capes, ribbons, fingerless arm warmers and her... skirt... tuft... thing...? I just think they're really neat and gave some more detail to the design :]]

BUT the skimpiest part of her outfit is well,,, y'know-- the swimsuit aspect. This is because Polka can use hydromancy, so I just thought it would be a cute nod to that, lol

I think that's about all of it! I had a lot of fun answering this one, hope that answers your question~ Polka actually has gone through the most redesigns outta all my characters, so that's prolly why she's the most interesting visually! I am def happiest with her current appearance, and I can't see myself making any changes too it anytime soon--

The amount of crying I did because of chapter 5 🗿my eyes are so swollen

I couldn’t stop thinking about that scene from the show when Nyra and Daemon are walking around the shore and she says to him that he left, and she’s been so alone. Putting Babey into the scene there… I feel it ten times more for her

Losing her mother so young and then to lose Brella, that’s when I started SOBBING, I can’t imagine feeling so alone and being so little, i relate so much to that change because of personal reasons, to have to put first appearances, the way you act or the way you will be perceived before your feelings is a big burden to bear, especially as a child. And with the whole Nyra and Alicent feud, being young and little is not equal to being ignorant, and I feel so bad for OC because in a way, even subconsciously she was forced to pick a side

And with Alicent, this installment of the series feels so important and is so so beautiful because it puts into perspective how much she cared for Baby, with the tea incident that we have in the other series, even though her actions where flawed I can feel where her heart was when she made that decision. I truly truly think Alicent loved her a lot. They were just girls, little sweet girls 😭.

Hoping we can see more of her relationship with the *stepsiblings*, i know for a fact now that girlie never loved Aegon lmao, but the affection that she has for Healena is so sweet, the need of a big sister to protect 🫶🏻, I can’t quite capture or imagine what she will think about Aemond though… intriguing

It would be so sweet if we got a reunion between Brella and Babey (now with children of her own), even though, much like the memory of Aemma she probably doesn’t remember her much. And with Daemon disgust for the people of the Vale I don’t see that happening anytime soon lol

I also can’t wait for the war to be over so she can see cute, sweet, girl dinner Uncle 🫣, fingers crossed, hoping he doesn’t throw her aside while he fawns over Nyra.

I hope my sentences make sense lol, English is my second language and I haven’t written in a long time but I wanted to tell you how much I loved chapter 5. I love love love you and your series so much! Also sorry if I butchered a name, I have terrible memory and forget how to write them 💀

English is such a shit language, too, the rules have exceptions all over the joint because it’s a jumbled mix of warring root languages. Don’t worry—you’re nailing it! Plus, you’ve DEFINITELY spelled all the names right, which is a definite win!

I didn’t realise before starting this instalment quite how sad it would end up being—all I’d thought was “yay, little Babey, how cute”. Then I realised I’d have to actually go into detail about all the ways life fucks her over before the main events. Of course, she doesn’t suffer, exactly. It’s not like she’s abused or neglected to the point her health suffers. But the insidiousness of it all is what I find interesting; she has power and position, she has wealth and everything she could want financially speaking, but she doesn’t have the belonging she craves. I think there are so many people who can relate to that in the sense that they were never truly someone else’s priority in the way they ought to have been. It is nice to sort of subvert the trope-y sort of ‘OC trauma’ narratives which, while absolutely valid and needing representation, explore the much more obvious ways in which a human being can experience pain at the hands of others. Alicent as well; I am trying hard to give her what grace I can in conveying that she really did do her best under the circumstances. None of these people start out as antagonistic—they are trying, which is what ultimately marks the tragedy of it all.

I am hoping to have snippets where I can of Babey and her half siblings, though they may get lost in the scope of the bits I want to prioritise. As for Brella…. I’m not sure if I’ll bring her back. Babey won’t remember her anymore, so it’s not exactly a reunion on her part, though for the reader it would of course be sweet. Hmmm. I’m thinking about it!

⚔👑Hello, hello!! I recently got an idea something that Id love to be able to flesh out into a full on plot as well as world building alongside that with anyone that'd be interested in doing so! I'm 20+ so please also be 20+ if you interact with this post!

So! What I had in mind is MxM and involves the dynamic of a bounty hunter x a thief or something similiar along those lines, with my character being the bounty hunter. I'd love to have a sort of slow burn enemies to lovers thing going on with these two but it is not a requirement as depending on what exactly we come up with and decide to do might not allow for it to work, but if possible I would heavily prefer enemies to lovers for them.

Now, onto the idea itself! It is pretty simple at the moment, but here it is! Your character manages to steal something powerful, magical, precious from a just as powerful king (I'd love to be able to go further into what it is your character stole as well as his motives alongside you though if you already have ideas in mind for either or both, do not hesitate to let me know, I am all ears!) who, as a result, puts up an incredibly high bounty on your character to get the item back. Either this king hires my character specifically to go after yours or my character is a part of a sort of underground 'town' of bounty hunters that happen to hear of the new bounty put up for your character, of seemingly a life times worth of gold/jewels/whatever for who ever gets ahold of him and brings him back to the king both for the item he stole as well as to punish your oc for stealing it, promptly causing every one to disperse, all of the bounty hunters racing against each otherto get ahold of your oc and claim the reward from the king. I have a slight preference for this world bring a sort of being fantasy-ish leaning as my guy dabbles in magic and potions in general as well as to use for combat and would love to discuss the rules of this potential fantasy world though I dont mind swapping that out for something else if youd prefer something more realistic leaning if youd prefer! On the topic of my oc, he does have some lore and backstory already that I will share with you in DMs when we get down to talking about characters, though we do not have to include it here as it might not flow well with what ever we decide for our plot.

I know this is a little bit bare bones right now but I am hoping to as i said work out all the finer details of it all and build the world these two reside in alongside you.

As I mentioned, I am thinking of a sort of enemies to lovers kind of thing mixed with a whole lot of angsts, miscommunications, and conflicting feelings given the fact that these two are on opposing sides and arent supposed to be catching feelings let alone be together. As I also mentioned, I am really wanting this to be slow burn! i want these two at each others throats at the start, maybe something happens between them that changes this or maybe it is just a slow transition into something else, I am absolutely down to discuss how we go about this and how we get these two there!

All of that being said, none of this is set in stone and I'd be happy to adjust any part of my idea or hear out any ideas you may want to add or change so absolutely dont feel shy, let me know! I want to create all of this together so we can make something the both of us will have fun with and enjoy. I feel theres plenty of different ways to go about all of this and i think it'd be interesting to explore them! Maybe our ocs have a bit of a 'history' together with a sort of cat and mouse kind of dynamic going on, my oc constantly trying to catch yours while yours is a mix of trying to take mine out and/or getting away but both always manage to slip tight past each others grasps yet their paths always seem to end up crossing again soonee or later, maybe over time they both end up developing a love for the thrill and the adrenaline that comes from the chase, both wondering when theyll see each other next, maybe even looking forward to the next time their paths cross again. Maybe the king isn't a good person and originally stole the item for his own personal gain, pretending the item was his and your oc is stealing it back to return it to its rightful owner, along the way getting my oc to realize the king isn't what he seems and eventually gets my oc to join his side. Maybe your oc is the one stealing the item for his own personal gain and your oc simply tries to corrupt mine and get him to join your oc that way. Maybe they somehow get stuck together and are forced into a situation where they have to work togrther to survive and along the way see that the other isn't so bad. Those are just a few ideas that come to mind for what we could do with our guys but im absolutely up for hearing any ideas you may have as well or even mixing ideas together too!! Id also absolutely love to add in the classic "i didnt know where else to go" trope somewhere into our plot, however this is also not a requirement by any means, i just think itd be fun to do if our plot allows for it!

Im not actively looking for NSFW but I have absolutely no problem with it as long as we discuss everything beforehand! Do keep in mind though that I prefer plot and world building over smut so if it is something we decide to include, Id prefer build up and slow burn. Just let me know what you're feeling and we can discuss everything in DMs.

I tend to be very literate, I can very easily fill up 2 or more discord messages in response due to the fact that I very much enjoy writing out atmosphere and what my characters thoughts/feelings are in any given moment and while I slightly do prefer that you be the same or atleast similiar, this is is not a requirement or a deal breaker if you aren't! I will always do my best to mirror you. All I really ask for is no one liners please! I lose interest very quickly with one liners.

For the most part I dont mind what you use to describe your characters, all I ask is that you be okay with descriptions as on my end that is what i will be using for my character (atleast for now, I plan on drawing him eventually when I've got the time) and that what ever you use isn't something ai generated as it makes me uncomfortable, sorry!

My response times are fairly laid back, more relaxed, especially if our replies are on the longer end of things. That being said, it should be pretty consistent and I will do my best to let you know of any times where I will be unavailable or busy!

This is gonna be just the most basic rundown of all of them cause there's many and if I went in detail about them we'd be here forever

Alkali Ashford

Alkali was my first x men OC. Her ability is turning into dinosaurs. In her regular form, she has stripes and a tail, so she needs one of the camouflage watch things. She's besties with Kurt, but her arc is sort of opposite to his in the sense that while he wants to fit in and hide who he is, she wants to stand out and let the world know who she is. She's very fun I love her. Also fun fact this is the character that got me in trouble in that one rp server I mentioned a few nights ago, where they yelled at me because they decided shapeshifters aren't allowed only after I submitted her. They hate her because she's too swag for them to handle

Milo

This guy and the next character are basically recycled versions of ooold old OCs of mine. Milo has two water serpent things that he can control. He starts out kinda scared of them because, unlucky for him he has a fear of water due to almost drowning as a child. But overtime he learns to appreciate them

Marigold

Other aforementioned old recycled OC. Her mutation is physical in the sense that she has cat ears and angel wings, so she also needs a camouflage watch. However unlike Kurt and Alkali, she never really faced a lot of discrimination growing up because her mutation is considered beautiful by most (There's lots of angel devil comparisons with Marigold and Kurt it's so fun it's so fun). She's known Milo since they were kids because she is the one who saved him from drowning. They're dating now. Ew romance

Peter Maximoff

"Peg that's not an OC" yeah so I made an Evo version of Peter because I was STUPIDLY obsessed with this man in like 2021 idk what was wrong with me. Anyway he's the twins' half brother and I have yet to figure out what happened between Erik and his mom. He has a really dumb rivalry with Pietro its so funny

Ezekiel

Or Zeke for short. His thing is seeing and talking to ghosts. Lance recruits him to the Brotherhood for all of two seconds before Zeke befriends Kurt and jumps over to the X Men instead. He also dates Kurt later so i can live in my RogueKitty delusions but shhh

Indigo

These next few are part of the new mutant squad. Indigo's power is bringing drawings to life and she has a fun sibling relationship with Peter. They're also a little bit Too wiling to commit murder

Niko

Also a recycled old OC. He has a snake that sticks out of his back. Not much more to him yet, he just has a snake

Ozzy

Cool guy who turns into a fish person when in the water. May or may not have been inspired by Luca. Also for anyone who knows my habit of making Harry Osborn inspired OCs and naming them Ozzi. This guy is not one of the Harry clones, he came way before the raimi fixation attacked me and dragged me to hell

Markus Lang

Member of the X Men and one of the mentors alongside Ororo and Logan. He can turn into a dragon. He might end up dating Logan idk I think they'd be silly together

Gwen Ashford

Alkali's adopted younger sister who has rock powers. She's part of The Brotherhood and she is an absolute menace to society

Wyatt Elsher

This guy is able to turn into like a goop furry thing and I'm being so honest to god I based him off the fucking Transfur Outbreak game on roblox. Embarrassing. Anyway he was childhood friends with Marigold and lived in her old neighborhood, and I imagine initially his mutation was just becoming some sort of werewolf thing. Then he got sent to this lab place that claimed they'd 'cure' him but ended up fucking him up. So now he's goop. He also joins the Brotherhood and has a rivalry with Marigold

Harper

Regular ass human girl who Alkali meets at a party and falls head over heels in love with her. She also sort of adopts Kurt into her friend group after the mutants get exposed, seeing he's alone now and wanting to help him. She does guess he's also a mutant, but she's fine with it

Thats all of em!! It's entirely possible I'll make more soon, but this is who I got right now. I also have like the crumbs of a fic for these guys on wattpad but it has like one chapter that was written in 2021 and also features very shitty old art. If yall want it though I'll link it. I do plan on working on it again eventually

According to the votes on that poll, at least 70% of you want to hear about my FFXIV ocs (meanwhile, only 12% think i should sleep. so i'm awake still, typing this.) I'll ramble about them under the cut, but for the ~7% that said they don't know what ffxiv is, I ended up rambling quite a bit about what ffxiv even is, and why I personally enjoy it/what i recommend for anyone who's interested in it. (I made it easy to skip over if you don't care to read about that, though)

Gonna put this under a readmore since it got really long;

Final Fantasy XIV is a MMORPG by Square Enix. Most other final fantasy games aren't MMOs, but this one is. That means it's a multiplayer game with RPG elements. It's also heavily story-driven. While you might hear people complain about the story at times- and I'd be one of them- it manages to really leave an impression in spite of any contrivances, awkward writing, or plotholes. That's due to the fact that the player character is... well, whoever you want them to be.

Your WoL (Warrior of Light), the player character, is the protagonist of the story. And it really must be emphasized... They are so, so fully the protagonist, it's hard for other protagonists to even compare to the protagonist energy the warrior of light has. That might seem... dull or uninteresting to some, but eh, it's not like you can please everyone- the point is for you to get into character, and if that doesn't interest you, then hopefully the other characters in the story will. Personally I love this aspect- I've made the WoL my own oc with a really, really detailed backstory. Which brings me to my next point;

The Worldbuilding... The worldbuilding is probably the strongest point of ffxiv, aside from the STELLAR soundtrack it boasts. The worldbuilding is incredibly detailed, and is there to encourage roleplaying, as well as to help the plot along (tho, really, it works best as a means to encourage roleplay). I suppose I should be more specific here; it's the setting that's really the key point here- the world, the cities, each and every river and valley... But also the time period, the history, etc etc etc... There's a lot of material to work with, and I suppose you'll just have to believe me that it's really quite in-depth (if you're interested in that depth! totally fine not to engage with it, too.)

All of this isn't... going to grab or interest everyone, certainly, but eh, I've accepted that at this point lol. Don't force yourself to keep playing it if it isn't grabbing you, but for me, I started playing it for the social aspect- doing something in the game with friends, socializing in the game, making new friends through it... it's been great for that. What I didn't expect is how much the story would grab me.

FFXIV's story is very slow to start, but gradually builds on the humble roots of your adventurer until you're literally saving the entire universe. It's very, very gradual, and this slow pace might turn people off as well. Especially if you hear people say "it really gets good at heavensward!" "shadowbringers is unforgetable!" "just wait til next expansion--" these sorts of things are common to hear, but it's the same as touting that a game gets good "after the first 20 hours of gameplay", it's poison. Just try it out and see how you feel about how it plays. If the style of doing quests is interesting to you, if the combat feels engaging or shallow. etc. hey wait this was supposed to be about my ocs. ok i'll finish talking about the story and then get back to my ocs.

Anyhow. The story is really shallow at first, it's true. Even within the whole base game itself, (A Realm Reborn, aka 2.0), it can be a bit dull and contrived, and boy oh boy is the voice acting completely awful... It's rough around the edges. But if you're like me, you can really appreciate a series that starts out rough around the edges, and slowly evolves over time from humble beginnings into an epic tale that really blows away your expectations... It's about growing with the narrative, to me. If that sounds interesting to you, maybe you'll like it. I certainly did. In fact, ffxiv might be like... top 10 games to me, in terms of how its story affected me personally. Particularly the shadowbringers and endwalker expansions. But you can't skip all the way there, either- the context of everything that happened before it is crucial to understanding where you're at once you get to those expansions. The more you skip, the more lost you'll likely be. Take your time. Don't rush. And ignore anyone who tells you "it gets really good at (x) part!!!", it's a great way to set yourself up for disappointment if you end up not personally connecting with a certain plotline or character moment. I think, the thing that makes ffxiv really special... is.. it's YOUR story. The story of you- your warrior of light. And the parts that are going to connect for YOU, and for your warrior of light, are not necessarily the same as what connects for anyone else. You may end up loving the slow, humble beginnings of ARR, and feel alienated by all the saving-the-world stuff that comes later. Who knows! It's what you make of it. That's kind of the beauty of it. Now, I could talk all day about how I personally connected to shadowbringers and endwalker, (and some smaller moments, scenes, & questlines from earlier in the game), but you didn't come here for all this, you came here to read about my ocs. SORRY.

I'm done talking about FFXIV as a game now. It's time to ramble about my OCs.

FFXIV is really great for making OCs, if you like its setting. Square Enix doesn't like when you talk about it, but there's a pretty big modding scene that lets you customize your characters way beyond what the vanilla game allows for. This is often used for horny purposes, but more interesting to me personally is the gender euphoria I get from seeing my own body reflected in my own character. I gave Cassern wider shoulders, made her taller than any other au ra woman can be in vanilla, and gave her the horns that are typically only on male character models. She is so transgender. i love cassern.

Cassern Qestir is the warrior of light, meaning she's the protagonist that goes on to save everyone and everything. But at the start of her story, she's a budding new adventurer, completely new to Eorzea- her home is far to the east, in the Azim Steppe, where most Xaela Au Ra hail from. It started out casting spells, but picked up ninjitsu along the way, and quickly became one of the most skilled shinobi there is.

she's also pretty socially awkward, in spite of her unparalleled combat capabilities... it lacked a lot of confidence early on in the story, too, but over time it got a lot of character development, and gained confidence. my little beepo. i have a lot of photos of it, but I don't want to make this TOO long... plus, it's difficult to give a spoiler-free overview of her character that's still approachable to people that don't know anything about the game. I suppose I could talk about her backstory, because most of my writing for her actually happens before the main game... but, eh, I'd still need to introduce a lot of settings and topics that wouldn't make sense if you haven't played before. tricky to do. maybe I'll attempt that one of these days. Anyhow... onto my next oc...

This is Samga Mol! they/them. bi.

Samga is a touchy, standoffish Xaela dragoon. (Dragoon means they fight with a lance- it's one of the many jobs in the game, like Ninja is. I'd need another long tangent to explain that in full.) Samga was actually close friends with Cassern in their youth, having also grown up on the Azim Steppe- but the two of them haven't spoken in years... I wonder what happened between them?

They're very edgy, as dragoons often are- but they also have a softer, gentler side that they don't often let show... They also get grumpy if you say they're cute. (Which is just even cuter, by the way.) They actually have a soft spot for animals, particularly chocobos.

But shhh, don't tell anyone you saw them like this... they have a reputation to uphold, you know. Tough, menacing dragoon that kills in the name of dragonkind and all that. Most feared heretic in all of Ishgard, strikes fear into the hearts of the temple knights... Wait, weren't they from the Azim Steppe? How did that happen?? Hmm, I wonder...

I have a lot more OCs, but most of them don't have cohesive designs and intricate backstories like Cassern and Samga do- and more often than not, mostly exist just to add more depth to the story between the two of them. There's a few others I have, like this mad scientist catgirl named Dr. Frankie. I'm still working on her. She's completely unrelated to Cassern and Samga's story;

stay tuned if you enjoy morally dubious scientist women with an ephemeral grasp on social etiquette. i'm already obsessed with this little freak, i just need to develop her a bit more before i start showing her off all the time. she also has an ... "assistant" that i'm excited to design. more on that later.

Anyhow, this was a really, really brief overview of my ocs, and I have SO many more thoughts on them, that I post about with much more frequency over on @azimsteppe ... when I remember to... (I usually use twitter for ffxiv stuff, but I'm sure you're all familiar with how that website is faring these days...) just be aware that there are spoilers on that blog, and although i try to tag them, you'll likely run into some spoilery stuff if you browse there long enough.

I personally headcanon the woman praying in the grand cathedral of the nightmare as (one) the Vicar between Laurence and Amelia)

Argh, well, it is complicated! Yes, he is very OC-ish, but the thing is, this name WAS featured in cut content:

Basically, at some point, the names were switched, and Willem was called Laurence, the scholar that detracted from him was called Ashton, when actual Willem was also 'husk of Micolash', when there was also another face featured, called Herbert (Norbert in English)! Like, I think you know most of the cut content by now, but yeah, some names are obscure.

(It is also this same site in which I've learned that Norbert's name was also mistranslated! ヘルベルト is 'Heruberuto', and Lance McDolands also noticed that before in this ( x ) Tweet!)

You might recognise the first dialogue, too! Micolash has some voice files for cut dialogue ( x ), it was a little mistranslated, hence I am using this Japanese site, but the gist is still here!

So, yeah... Ashton and Herbert are the only names mentioned across the cut content that appear to be same/close in status to what Laurence and Emilia are! That's why I just took what I could, and in my thing there were four Healing Church heads in total; Laurence, Ashton, Herbert and Emilia, in this order! And each would bring something different during their era. In fact, I did want to make a line-up explaining who did what - whereas Laurence is self-explanatory, it is worth to mention how Healing Church was living after Laurence became a beast. Fun fact! Ashton can also be a female name! I really wish I learned of it before I already wrote him as a male character, because we do need more nasty, evil women. But I tend to be a little rigid when I've already written a character in a certain way. Not gonna lie though, I often consider retconing him as a female character, because explain me how, HOW you can have """too many""" female villains? For now though he just really loves feminine things. Same as Damian. Or Micolash. Or Valtr. Or Ludwig. ...damn, I like slapping feminine aesthetic like FLEX APE too much, even where it doesn't quite fit. MOTHER OF MERGO, I AM-

But yeah, basically, I took what I could from the cut content, and tried to base my ideas on what it gave us. So, if Ashton used to be someone under Laurence - then that should be the dynamic in my thing too! So, underling of him in Healing Church, and the next vicar. Herbert was also mentioned to have been a previous leader of the Church, so that was saved too!

Fun fact - because Emilia used to be named Laura in cut content, I also have a secret 5th Vicar that went unused, with Laura being Herbert's daughter that didn't get to live to be the next Vicar. Well, TECHNICALLY, she is still alive! Remember that big Celestial Emissary in orphanage, who acts like the 'leader', and also, interesingly, drops Communion rune? I headcanon that the emissaries in that Orphanage are children that were taught to Think With Cosmos by the Choir, and Laura used to be their overseer while Herbert was at the position and she had not too much to do. But more or less, she refused to abandon the children when Croir's base crumbled the hell out, and sort of ascended with them. In either case, this is not quite Laura anymore.. But, after Orphanage got nuked, Herbert was the one to take in orphans that he could take and raise them within the walls of the Healing Church! Like I mentioned, Adella was one of kids (well, teens) he basically adopted. But she had the biggest adopted daughter energy to him, hence she became a successor.

Ashton, though? Honestly, he started and is still going as my "punching bag" djfdshfd I did not want to use Laurence as obligatory 'evil cleric' at the time, since he had too much tragedy potential, and too much complexity. But yes, Ashton is more or less the combination of some traits I just looooooove. -_- Self-projecting, bullying people for what he himself has, provoking someone to feel a certain way and then blaming their reaction as them being "insane" or "irrational", fuckin'... flirting with someone and when they start returning the h0rny, blaming them for "daring" to think that he, such a HOOOOOOLY man, would EVER feel this way, and force them to apologize etc etc dshdh + Every time I reblog that video where a woman pushes a priest off the platform, I caption it as 'this is Rom when Ashton was being homophobic' and it is still canon, so that too.

Like... I can write a list that will actually make your phone lag upon scrolling so much, but you already get the idea of what type of a person he is. However yeah, jokes or not, but he managed to gain enough of reputation of a 'saint', by both appearing rather oppressive in demeanor and by secretly normalizing cannibalism (he'd sometimes feed people concerned with falling into beasthood meat or blood of enemies of the Healing Church, that they'd not know about, but they'd feel "easier' after that (of course...), and would be easily gaslit by Ashton into thinking that he had something personally to do with it, to offer remedy :') Like... It was kind of a big deal while it lasted. That you didn't have to be burnt/shot/trapped into one of those coffins if you start feeling beasthood but you could like, idk, talk with Ashton and feel better? I love to think that his beast form would reflect that, where his back would resemble a Kin way more than a beast, and you'd only see his hideous true form when he turns around! So yeah, like 'wolf in a sheep clothing' sorta!!)

I really love the guy, but at the same time a lot about him comes from a couple of years ago, when my knowledge on Bloodborne lore was a bit limited, so for now I question whether Ashton "stole" too much from the thing LAURENCE should've been doing during his corruption arc. I saw you are doing Oc interactions, so I wanted to see Cloche and Grace!

Grace has a service familiar named Kerby (he is a Gytrash - Burmese Mt. Dog), so I imagine the first meeting being Kerby going up to Cloche and wanting to play when he is "off-work." Grace would half to get Kerby and try to comfort/get to know her. Grace would try to help her work around her curse since she feels bad. I also think they may bond over their shared experiences (Grace died in her home world and remembers it).

Grace is playing fetch with Kerby in the sports field with him off leash. He had been working hard, so she often spent an hour or two in the evenings on nice days playing with him to release his energy and give him a break from a hard day's work.

"Ready buddy?" She said in an excited voice as the big black fluffball wagged his tail furiously, "Go get it!!" Grace chucked the tennis ball as far as she could and Kerby ran after it. He grabbed the ball and displayed it proudly "Good boy! Bring it back Kerbs!"

Just as he was about to prance back, Kerby caught sent of something and dashed off. "KERBY!" Grace called and ran after him. It was unusual for Kerby to not listen to her, he usually had great recall. "KERBY COME!"

She then saw his target, a beastcat girl in a combination of the school and a maids uniform. Kerby, being the big boy that he is, surprised the girl and started licking her.

"KERBY NO! GET BACK HERE!" Grace called, and this time Kerby listened and came pracing towards Grace. She put his leash back on and caught her breath.

"I am so so so sorry. He is usually really good about recall. He means no harm." She apologized, then she saw the girls face and smiled "I'm Grace, I live in Ramshackle. I think I have seen you around, what's your name?"

Cloche didn’t have a dislike for dogs, but she wasn’t too fond of having to touch slobber without mental preparations. When Kerby was pulled back by his owner, Cloche’ attention turned to the woman who was frantically putting his leash back on. When the blonde introduced herself as “Grace”, Cloche didn’t seem to react much except for a nod of acknowledgement. Cloche’ blank stare, without any signs of preparing for a response, left Grace wondering if she needed to repeat her question.

Right before Grace tried to ask again, Cloche dipped into small bow, “The name is Cloche. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mistress Grace.” Cloche didn’t pay any mind Grace’ grimace at the title. Dusting her apron as she stood back up, “And I didn’t mind him at all. Kerby, was it?”

When Grace showed a sign of affirmation, Cloche continued to ask, “By the way, I thought pets and animals weren’t allowed.” Judging by the leash, collar, and how relaxed Grace was about playing fetch in the open field, it seemed Grace must have had permission of some sort.

“Oh? He’s a service… familiar?” Cloche’ eyes widened when Grace corrected her, “I see. My apologies for assuming otherwise— and a gytrash at that…” Cloche listened as Grace explained her circumstance and how her reliance on Kerby came to be.

It was just the two of them— and some other Track and Field Club members doing their own things. Cloche wasn’t in a P.E. uniform, making Grace curious. When she asked about it, Cloche shrugged, “I was told to look for a missing keychain in this yard.” Grace inquired more about this ‘missing keychain’, questions along the lines of its appearance and how long Cloche had been searching. After answering, the maid was surprised that a stranger was willing to help out.

After what seemed like an eternity, even with Kerby’s assistance, there were no signs of such charm out in the fields. Grace suggested that Cloche should go check in the lost-and-found and search tomorrow, also mentioning how much harder it is to search for something so small in the dark.

“You may leave. I appreciate your and Kerby’s help, but I’m afraid I can’t return empty-handed,” Cloche leaned forward in a slight bow. Grace was hesitant to leave Cloche to search alone. Kerby shared the same sentiment and sat still in his place.

“You’re actually going to stay?” Cloche’ tail flickered. “This ‘missing keychain’ could be fake, for all you know. You may be wasting your time, here.” Despite the seemingly hostile comment, Grace had a hunch such sentiments were directed at whoever told Cloche to find the keychain, rather than herself and her service familiar.

8.Have you received anon hate? What about?

I've never received anon hate from the Powerpuff Girls fandom, but I have for the Mario fandom.

I pretty openly headcanon Cackletta from Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga as aroace agender, as opposed to more popular fanon interpretations of her being a lesbian. Somebody told me to fucking kill myself over it LMFAO.

Also, her color palette even matches one of the main AAA flags it's right there /j:

I'm down for all sorts of queer interpretations of my favorite characters even if I don't personally headcanon them as queer in that fashion and I think people should be respectful of other people's takes as long as it isn't shitting on existing canon queerness. It's a blast to see all the lesbian Cackletta interpretations truly even if I don't headcanon her as such, obsessed with the fact that lesbians love her; tbh it makes a ton of sense as somebody who used to ID as a lesbian.

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

For the PPG fandom, I think a lot of people in the fandom have a stick up their ass about fanon works, particularly aged up work, work involving the Ruffs and/or Punks, or work that's darker/has more mature themes. I get being annoyed with stuff like this, totally, especially after that atrocious CW script leak.

Slight detour but people don't talk about this part enough when they bring up the worst lines from the CW script. Horrid, truly.

Back on track, I get it. I do, PPG, while an all audience show, is primarily targeted at kids and is for the most part light hearted. Even Craig himself states that changing any aspect of its premise and setting doesn't make it PPG anymore. Also I am very, very, very aware that a lot of fanon interpretation work is truly terrible and also deeply frustrating for a numerous amount of reasons. But I think it's a shame that this is so pushed back against because I honestly think that there are so many fascinating ideas that can be pulled from expanding PPG's world building and taking things in a darker or more mature direction. I have read some truly phenomenal darker PPG fanfiction that dives into more mature themes with the grace and nuance that they deserve. I have read some beautiful in depth work about people's future AU's that really take into account every. Single. Little. Detail. About how a setting like this could affect their characters and that includes diving into darker and more serious topics.

I get it's not for everybody, including Mr.McCracken himself, and I'm not saying "oh I'm right all you losers are in the wrong". Once again, there's a lot of stuff there's very frustrating out there. But the idea of having a more mature and in depth look into the setting and truly diving in and doing some intense world building/character building is such a fun concept to me given that there is so much to work with and build off of. I think people in the fandom are too unfair about the idea (outside of just not being personally interested which is 100% fine), not every older/mature dive into these characters and setting is going to be like the CW script or some mediocre High School AU fic where the author thinks that drugs and sex are the height of maturity and that 16 year olds are constant fucking and doing cocaine.

18.Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?

NO. You are not required to ship anything, ever. Not shipping something says nothing about your values or whether or not you think something is canon. While I mostly don't ship things (I ship like... seven ships out of all the media I engage in, and three of those are the PPG/RRB color code ships and two of them are my own OCs) and don't care what others ship as long as it isn't like, pedo shit, I do have some popular ships that I truly cannot stand. Bowser/Luigi and Odd/Aelita being the mains ones off the top of my head. I just block the tags and don't engage with it, it doesn't make me in denial about anything or mean that I have biases. I just, do not care about these ships and don't want to see them.

Inversely, I know a lot of people who hate the handful of things that I do ship and they have their own valid reasons for it. They aren't in denial, they aren't biased, they just don't like them. It's fine, it's not the end of the world if somebody doesn't like a ship that I do. For the PPG fandom specifically, I interact with quite a few people awesome people who don't like PPG/RRB shipping and that's more than fine, we just talk about other shit it's not that hard. I don't like that shipping is seen as this be all end all in fandom spaces where so much discourse and strife is located. I hate how much of fandom it takes up and how big of a deal it's treated as even when I do ship stuff.

Additional perspective: I think the idea of not wanting to ship things or not shipping things being seen as bad excludes aspecs from fan spaces. I'm demiromantic/grayromantic (not 100% sure on which LOL my identity is a complicated mess), asexual, and generally shift between being neutral and favorable on both romance and sex. There are a lot of aspecs in fandom spaces who are solidly repulsed or uninterested in sex/romance or seeing it explored in fandom. The amount that shipping is focused on in fandom makes most fandom completely inhospitable to aspecs who aren't interested in romance and sex. Putting morality on not shipping things only pushes them out of fan spaces further than they already are.

Yeah sure, there are people who might not ship shit because they're queerphobic or racist or any other sort of bigot who doesn't like the dynamics of a ship due to the fact that it involves minorities. But those are not the vast, vast majority of people who aren't interested in ships.

So I'm currently working on a big ol fic and the ame trio (and original akatsuki) are a part of it. It has 3 original characters (2 being parents and one being a young child) that join Akatsuki. I was wondering if you had any tips for writing the ame trio as sort of older siblings to this kid? Also any general tips on writing the trio would be nice too if you have the time... I really love your work regarding the three. 💖

Hello!! Wow, this is such a lovely and fun ask! It's not a loaded question at all. I'm glad that you feel like asking my opinion on this, our own works are such personal things! I'm also super excited to know more people who are working on creative content (art & writing) with the Ame Oprhans. <3

I'll try to give an answer as detailed and helpful as possible! Leaving it below the cut because it will also be long, as I can't manage to be cohesive lmao.

I hope it's not a problem, but I'll rearrange a bit the order of your questions: first, general pointers about the Ame Orphans (+ Hanzo and Amegakure), and then how it'd relate to them being older siblings to your OCs.

The original Akatsuki timeline: I think the context of what was happening in the Land of Rain during the time of the original Akatsuki is a bit messy/vague, which makes it hard to understand, that's why I'm including it in the answer.

Bear with me for a little while, I know it feels like I'll be going on a tangent but I believe to better understand the characters, it's important we understand their environment just as much.

--- First off, I think it's good to clear up that the Akatsuki was not opposed to Hanzo (or his government). This is a misconception I see rather frequently, and it contradicts directly a lot of Yahiko's own actions - why would he want to ally with Hanzo if the Akatsuki was opposed to him? It's important to keep in mind that the trap that got Yahiko killed only happened because Hanzo "wanted to use the Akatsuki's influence to assist with peace negotiations between the three countries (waging the Third War)". (Ch.446). That is why Hanzo betrayed them... you can't betray your enemies.

I believe the misconception comes from, well, the fact that Hanzo killed Yahiko, and the fact that Kyusuke saw the Ame Orphans wearing hitai-ates with the Rain symbol, assumed they worked with Hanzo and stated that in a very... snarky manner. (Ep. 346).

Was Hanzo popular? Was he hated? Both? I don't think we have canon information enough to state either. What we know is that Yahiko (and, in extent, the Akatsuki) had a goal of working with him, or at least not against him - after all, the Akatsuki was all about estabilishing peace, not more conflict.

"Just like Hanzo, we hope that one day we'll be able to bring peace to the shinobi world..." Yahiko on Ep.346, English dub.

--- What was the Akatsuki's goal besides, well, world peace?

As far as we know, Rain didn't have a central government (like Fire and the other Great Nations had the Kage and Daimyo) -- Rain is not ever even called a "Country", probably because of that. When you a weak/non-existant/unstable government in a nation, it opens space for the rise of criminal factions. You don't have to search too much to get reference for that; crime-dominated cities are good examples, even if in smaller scales, for what happens when governments lose control to factions (mafia, gangs). When these factions wage war against each other, citizens suffer. In Rain, you also have the factor of Rain being occupied and used as battlefield for the Third War. We can assume the Akatsuki was trying to peacefully work against both of these situations.

Achieving "world peace" is a very broad goal -- you can try to do that through many different ways, as Nagato (post Yahiko's death) and Madara show us. We can tell through the story that Yahiko's Akatsuki, on a daily basis, tried to pave the way to world peace through local action: being the "guardians" of small villages (ep.346) and protecting it from local criminal gangs, as well as more 'international' actions such as helping (interfering?) with the conflics between the Great Nations (ep.347).

In this regard, we can also safely assume the Akatsuki grew to be known/powerful enough to have influence, or at least enough to pose as a threat to Hanzo; they were not just a small little group ninja among other similar groups of ninja. I think it's quite safe to assume that a lot of people heard about the Akatsuki (and the three main leaders), given that they caught the attenttion of Danzo, who is not even a Rain citizen...

2. The Ame Orphans.

I have a series of analysis of the Ame Trio as inviduals if you want to read, so I'll try to keep a simpler answer here, and more directed at your question.

I think writing them as older siblings to your character would depend a lot, of course, in what is the relationship of your character with them. Are they a member of the Akatsuki?¹ If so, what is their role in the Akatsuki? Are they trying to figure out where they fit, or do they start more or less knowing what is it that they will do?²

¹ Side note: You did mention one of the characters being a kid - if your child character ends up joining the Akatsuki... I wonder how the process of bringing a child into an organization that deals with war will work in the first place? We know the Shinobi World doesn't oppose children dealing with violence -- but how do the Ame Orphans, who are rebels against the system, feel about it? I'm very curious. I can totally see the Akatsuki having a "younger members" section, but I also feel like there would be some resistance to that idea. I wonder if this will cause some conflict until they decide what to do about your OC? Will they all be on the same page? Will of some of them be too idealistic ("we can't do what everyone else does and involve children with violence") and others be too realistic ("this is the world we live now, and we need to play the game to change the rules")? ² Side note: Especially for the adult characters, I think their "roles" will influence a lot with which of the ame orphans they'll interact most. Yahiko is the leader, of course, which means that he will probably interact with everyone more or less equally, and for that same reason will probably be in too much constant hurry to be present all the time. I think Nagato and Konan are the ones you can have a lot more freedom in this regard!

--- I don't think making the Trio behave as "older siblings" would be, in any way, OOC - in fact, it's entirely in their character to do that very naturally and instantly.

Yahiko is the most obvious one in this regard, having cared for Konan and Nagato with a (quite extreme) overprotection, and then serving as the leader of the Akatsuki and caring for everyone else. We saw how Nagato behaved as the Akatsuki's leader as well; he was distant in many ways (for obvious reasons), but he disliked name-calling between the members and chose members with similar interests to work "better" together (I mean, Kishimoto did, but you can extend that to him). We saw how he behaved with Naruto during the Edo Tensei, warm and proud and also worried about hurting him with his own powers. And Konan was the one Jiraiya called "happy and caring", and despite the coldness we usually associate with her (after Yahiko's death) she really was; she gifted Jiraiya with flowers, made origami to play with Chibi, and then gifted Naruto with flowers right after all the Pain Arc ordeal. She has a will of doing good to others that is very natural to her.

--- I find that, in order to highlight a character's virtues, we have to first identify and understand a character's flaws -- and in the Ame Orphan's case, how these flaws strain the relationship between them and how this can affect the relationship between your characters and them.

We know that Yahiko was so convinced that Nagato was the one to "save" their country and so adamant on the idea of having him as the Akatsuki's leader, he didn't really care for Nagato's (and Konan's) own opinions about it. (Ch 509/510). Of course his fiery will is a reason why Yahiko is admired, but couldn't his tunnel vision on his ideals also make him excessively busy and even hard to work with? We have a pretty clear implication that YahiKona didn't 100% happen because he was so stubborn on pushing Konan to be with Nagato despite neither of them wanting it. I'm not sure if YahiKona is a thing in your story, but if canon Yahiko was too focused on his goals to allow himself to be in a relationship with the person he loved, and even disregard their beloved's own desires, one can only wonder what it means for his other relationships...

Konan, like him, is someone who is also loyal and duty-oriented. Pretty much everything she does in Naruto is because she's extremely focused on her goals. She stays with Nagato after Yahiko's death, despite not fully agreeing with him or his methods (as implied in canon and stated in Akatsuki Hiden), because she's loyal to him (her family). Her whole reason to fight Obito is because he's a direct threat to her ideals and goals and family (as Nagato believed in Naruto). If Yahiko is insufferably loyal to his ideals, then Konan isn't all that much better, maybe just less obviously so. In Akatsuki Hiden, she misses a pretty obvious implication Nagato makes about them (YahiKona) because she can't think of anything besides the Akatsuki. Again, even if YahiKona isn't a thing in your story, one can only wonder how such extreme focus (and little thought for anything else) affects her relationships.

Nagato is, of course, also loyal and duty-focused, but he has a factor neither of the previous have, which is the Rinnegan. Jiraiya states that he mastered all jutsu natures (fire, water, etc) by age 10 - in the flashbacks, we only see him using "normal" ninjutsu. Nagato does not use the Rinnegan willingly until after Yahiko's death. He can't, and he doesn't want to; we know he is scared of the powers he can't control. Think about it; Nagato is a person who is scared of himself. He's scared of what he can do, because he can't control his powers once they unleash. How confortable can he be, interacting with others, if he has such a relationship with himself? We know he is nervous, insecure, hesitant despite being so powerful - maybe that's why he relies so much on Konan, and especially Yahiko. How confortable would he be with protecting others, if he can't safely use his own powers to their full extent?

3) Now, back to your character - how the "older sibling" relationship could estabilish.

Please note that this will be heavily influenced by how I would write such a thing, based on their personalities. It will be wonderful if you agree, but feel free to disregard if any of these don't sit right with you at all~!

I think Yahiko is the easiest one to know; we has a pretty strong tendency to protect the "weaklings". Konan and Nagato are way more powerful than him, we know, but only physically. From the start, they relied on him for everything, and kept on relying on a lot as the years went by. I think it would be extremely natural for Yahiko to take someone under his wing if they seem too lost or too much in need of guidance.

I believe Konan, on the other hand, would have her attention caught by someone who doesn't obviously need so much support. We know Yahiko is loud and expensive, and we know how quiet and composed Konan is compared to him - so I think someone who puts on a strong façade, but shows cracks of maybe needing help, needing to talk, needing care, would be the one to catch her eye more than others. It would be a more delicate relationship, one that Yahiko (being so blunt and on hurry all the time) could easily miss. And maybe you're thinking: "that also sounds like Nagato" - yes, I think Nagato and Konan gravitate towards similar things in general.

But Nagato has the Rinnegan, which adds a complexity factor that Konan, despite all of their similarities, doesn't have. We associate Nagato's behavior with insecurity and shyness, but we don't associate Konan with either of those, despite her also being a quiet and reserved character - Konan has full control of her powers, whereas Nagato doesn't. I think Nagato would face an internal conflict when meeting new people and estabilshing relationships: a tendency to be kind and helpful vs. a tendency to isolate because of the general sense of fear he constantly lives in. Your OC being a child would only amplify that: the desire of protecting someone who is fragile, especially considering how much the trauma of being orphaned impacted him (he knows "pain"), vs. the expanded fear of hurting that person who is so much more fragile than most (a child, not an adult). Maybe that extra nervousness could call the attention of the other rain orphans...?

WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO RAMBLE ABOUT THEM. I WILL RAMBLE ABOUT THEM (literally just looking for an excuse to infodump!!!!! utilizing your lovely asks bestie, hope you dont mind <3)

anyway im thinking about chapter 1 a lot (and ignoring how chapters 4-6 are barely thought out) and uh um.

So basically Nicolas Nevers can go fuck himself. I created him and he is vital to the story, blah blah blah, I despise him <3.

My intention with him is that he starts out as a kind of... mentor/caretaker figure for Seph & Ellie?? I want the story to start out with a lot of fantasy "stereotypes" that are either flipped/twisted or turn out to be lies, and Nick is no different. He is the reason why Ellie and Seph both have these powers which they were never supposed to have. He lies about it to them and everyone else to cover his ass, makes up a prophecy for them, hoping they wont catch on (spoilers: sephoras eventually catches on), sends them off for "adventures" so they dont cause him more problems and expose his lies and deceptions, the list goes on. His entire career is a very carefully woven, but extremely fragile web of lies, bribery and cashed-in favors, and YET-

Somehow he is never publically exposed for all of his bullshittery. Worse yet, Sephoras isn't even the one that gets the satisfaction of killing him, Huen does (everyone say thank you Huen) at the end of chapter 2.

I actually want to make it a point in chapter 6 (underdeveloped as it is) that, as opposed to David, Sephoras had no real place where he could direct his anger. No way to enact "revenge". What I mean is, when Seph killed David's wife (for context: he wasn't fully in control of himself and he would never have done it in his right mind, but it was OBVIOUSLY enough for David to want to kill him, dead is dead, plus it traumatized them both, David watched it happen too, plus his toxic masculinity and anger issues made it so that there was no other way for him to react BUT trying to kill seph), in Seph's mind, that gave David a free pass to hurt Seph in any way he wanted. Seph was of the opinion that he deserved what he got and had no right to feel sorry for himself or resent David for it. In turn, his guilt made it so that most of the people that had hurt him were "off-limits" to him in terms of getting revenge or anything of the sort. He didn't deserve anyone's forgiveness, empathy and he CERTAINLY didn't deserve to get revenge.

Nicolas was the ONLY person he would have wanted to get revenge against. The only person he felt he could "bring to justice" and whatnot. The only man worse than him. The cause of this whole shitshow (literally, if not for Nick, none of the plot would have happened).

But like I said, Huen was the one to kill Nick in chapter 2, so Seph never got the satisfaction of doing so himself.

HOWEVER. I recently added on to this detail :))))))) I made it worse btw.

Like I said, Nick's reputation remained intact even after his death. No one (besides Seph ofc) really cared to expose him post mortem, and even so, hardly anyone knew the EXTENT of his lies and deceptions and faults. Sephoras knew the most, Huen did too, as he had told her, plus a couple of other characters, but he never really told Ellie the full story, not until MUCH later.

Which is where chapter 4 comes in. Ellie and Seph are trying to gain back each other's trust, but their relationship is falling apart, ripping at the seams in so many ways. They don't know each other anymore, they are not the same as they once were. Seph feels like he doesn't deserve a second chance and so he doesn't fight for it, he doesn't give Ellie reasons to trust him again. Ellie tries desperately to hold onto the image of Seph she had from BEFORE all this shit had happened, when he was still their brother and everything was easier, bathed in Nicolas' lies and their naive belief in what he had told them.

At some point Seph spills the beans about Nicolas, everything he'd done and lied about, how much he'd really manipulated them and Ellie is PISSED. They find out how much they let that man decieve them and they dont know what to do with that rage.

They relize he was never exposed. That he is still hailed as a martyr and a "good man who died a tragic death". They expose him publically on their own.

And so Nick's reputation goes to shit. As does Seph's only way of getting revenge on a dead man. Ellie takes that from him. He tells himself he didn't deserve the satisfaction of being the one to expose Nevers to the public, that Ellie had a right to do it. But it doesn't make him any less angry.

And so, like I said, Seph never really gets his revenge on Nevers. While David was able to take out his anger on Seph all he wanted, Seph was forced to suffer with all his anger directed at a man long dead, unable to do anything about it. The one man that hurt Sephoras more than Sephoras had hurt him. Dead and defamed - no thanks to Sephoras.

In transactions of the killkenny archaeological society volume 1-2 1853 , Eugene O kearney known forger writes that there exists a manuscript called "achievements of the seven celebrated irishman in the East under command of Royal champion Conall Kernach" he writes not about the manuscript but about an interperlation. Of the manuscript content all he says is that the interperlation occurs after Manannan mac Lir instructs Cuchulainn to use Gae Bolg crafted from a serpent that lived in Loch-na-niath near Manannans house in Armenia". It seems to be the origin for Lady Gregory mentioning it.

Do you think the manuscript exists or existed ? If nor was it just a forgery and how much damage do you think O'kearney did to irish folklore

I generally don't deal with material after the 16th century asides from short dalliances here and there, so I had not heard of this O'Kearney before (for those curious, he appears to have used a pen name, Nicolás Ó Cernaigh, and this is the article anon is referring to).

I can't really say anything definitive (.i. beyond my vibes on the matter) in regards to the possibility if this manuscript existed or not. It is just very outside my wheelhouse. While some of the material O'Kearney puts forward in his note appears plausible based on some of the things I know about the Ulster Cycle in the 19th century (ex: the description of the gáe bolga sounds a lot like the 'stingray spear' idea that has been discussed by Edward Pettit's 'Cú Chulainn's gae bolga: from harpoon to stingray spear,' Studia Hibernica 41 (2015): 9-48) or earlier (the idea that Conall is operating outside Ireland kicks around in medieval Ireland, which I discussed in my MA thesis on the topic), it could simply be him incorporating actual folk material into his fiction to give it plausibility.

What I would say is that how he is representing buada here is pretty weird. Unless there was a significant change in how they were being imagined in the late Early Modern heroic cycles, it looks like a red flag to me. I can't think of any objects being ascribed buada, and the buada we do see are... not supernatural powers? I suppose some of them might be (the buada of seeing in TBDD for instance is pushing it), but a lot of them are just 'this person ROCKS at this thing'. It looks like he is interpreting it as a word like 'enchantment' or something, which is not what I would be used to with the medieval material. However, it is very possible for terms like this to experience shifts. If you are in the International Celtic Congress this year, you will hear me talk about clessa and how they change over time in the tradition.

Further, again, I am a medievalist so maybe this isn't as odd to a late early modernist, but this interpolation being in Latin seems super weird?

[A further detail, @irelandseyeonmythology just noted to me that it looks like there's a very basic translation issue. The title of the manuscript, according to this gentleman, was 'an t-oc(h)tar Gaedil', and somehow took that to mean seven and not eight. They similarly noted that the use of Latin seems really odd for the period.]

This sort of thing is, of course, the problem with forgers and other forms of academic dishonesty. The moment someone dabbles in it, every piece of their work is now under extreme scrutiny and can't receive the benefit of the doubt. While, personally, I would love for there to be an entire manuscript about Conall (though I would find it strange for there to be a single-text manuscript, unless that was a popular thing in the late Early Modern Irish period or something?), I would have to say that we should assume that this is a fiction. Especially as he (seems to?) be trying to use the interpolation as part of a defense against accusations that he was making things up.

I am, of course, not a folklorist. I'm a medievalist. So, I can't really say anything in regards to the damage he has done to Irish folklore. I would leave any true judgement to an actual folklorist, rather than myself who has no qualifications to make such a call. However, if my wholly unqualified opinion on this is of interest, based on my experience, there's a long list of people I would put ahead of him.

[Again, a further detail, @irelandseyeonmythology noted that it looks like this idea didn't have much traction, as there is only one reference to this article, found in vol. 15-16 of The Modern Language Review (p. 78)]

“Hey… Cerise?” You catch her red gaze as she restrings her bow. She seems so cool and collected, you take a second to take a deep breath yourself.

“Hm? What is it?” Her small smile inspires one in you as well, makes your heart beat pick up gently. She was so… sweet. So pretty. And kind and gentle and-- she really was great. You could name a million reasons why you adored her.

“Ahh, well…” You sigh softly, looking away from her. It wasn’t often she took her hair down. You had to stop yourself from staring at the pretty pink locks for too long… “Have you ever been in love?” You ask her bluntly. She turns her attention fully to you, resting her head in her folded hands.

“Well, that’s rather bold of you!” She laughs sweetly, but doesn’t seem at all concerned at you question. “I’ll answer, if you’ll permit me ask why?” She hummed.

“Don’t tease, but… I’ve never really… been in love.” You admit softly. “I think I might be, but… I don’t know how to tell.” You explain to her. Probably best not to do so to the object of you maybe affection… But there was no one you trusted more than her.

“Oh I see.” She nods to herself. “Well… It’s kind of complicated in my case, but I think I have been before.” She explains, a faraway look in her eyes. “He and I… cared for one another very much, and the time we got to spend together was… magical. But in the end, we… saw differently. Ended up being different people than we thought one another to be.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up those memories.” You say softly, frowning.

“It’s alright. It saddens me, but it doesn’t hurt me anymore.” She curls her pretty lips into a smile, just for you.

“Back then, how did you know it was love and not, I don’t know, something else?” You scoot closer to her, eager to hear the details. To know if… that was what you felt for her.

“Hmm…” She closed her eyes a moment. “I suppose… it was the little things. How special he made me feel, how I found myself always wanting to be near him and impress him…” She mused. “And when we touched, I felt such sparks fly…” She sighed wistfully, sad eyes meeting your curious ones. “He made me feel like no one else before.” She finally decided.

“Is there… someone that makes you feel that way now?” You asked softly. You think you had your answer, though…

“Someone that I love?” She muses. “Hmm… I think so.” She nods softly, smile meeting her features once more. “I haven’t told them yet, of course. I’m waiting for a good time to confess.”

“When do you think is a good time, then?” You lay down beside her. “Lately, everything seems so busy and scary… Is there ever a good time to tell someone you love them during a war?” You sigh softly.

“I think it will present its self soon. I’m rather patient, so I’ll wait for the right time.” Cerise lays down beside you, a content sigh leaving her. “...What about you? Have you sorted out your feelings enough to decide how you feel about this person of yours?” She asked, closing her eyes. You admire her make up, smudged from the days battle.

“I… think so. But I need to make sure.” You felt your heartbeat pick up. “Is it okay if I try something?” You asked her, desperate to seem calm.

“I don’t mind.” She hummed out softly. She really was the picture of peaceful beside you.

“Right. Um, hold still…” You hover over her a moment, eyeing her still perfect, bright lipstick. Perhaps now you would get to see if the color suited you as well… Still, you leaned in, pressing a chaste kiss to her lips a long moment before pulling back slowly. As Cerise sat up quickly to stare at you, you only only blush and offer her a smile.

Nah, I understand where you're coming from, you explained yourself well -- and I'm really sorry the reason is so awful and sad. Losing characters we love is always super difficult, especially when we put so much of ourselves into them. I totally understand the fear, as Dabi is my intense emotional support blorbo. Ironically, I had a character kinda like that in WoW, though he was a much smaller character. I got wildly attracted to Putress in BC when I was a wee little lass playing WoW for the first time (I admit it was very shallow - I love undead and the warlock tier they put him in was and still is my favorite and it was SO GOOD) and I promptly sat about writing a bunch of stories featuring his character and my own. Come WotLK, suddenly he had a much bigger and cooler role than just as a plague investigator man. Which was so cool! And then, uh, they killed him. I'm usually pretty damn good at just existing in my own head and ignoring canon, but it did get to be pretty hard. I feel like losing a character like Vol'jin would be much worse, considering he actually had some like... y'know, development! So: all the condolences. ): It makes me sad to imagine you stopping with your stuff, cause I really enjoy it. I love seeing people embrace the whole canon x oc thing so much -- but I also know how hard that can be when we're at the whims of other creators. I'm really sorry you're having a bad time of things, and hope you can find some peace and happiness -- and that your cool WoW AU treats you well!

Hrrr yeah I think that's the hardest part for me right now - like it almost makes me wish I wasn't so invested in the series as a whole, then it would make ignoring the canon easier haha! Dabi/Abi's inventories are SOOO stressful because of all the tiny details, but for now it's treating me well!! I'm about half-way through the line-art for Abiteth's druid forms, then I'll tackle Dabi's inventory, then probably start doing some spell sketches for him. I think if I get the line art done I could have it finished by either the end of March or April.

I don't think so. My fic ideas tend to be pretty fandom-specific, and pretty character specific too now that I'm thinking about it--like I think of the fic for the fandom/character/ship/setting/whatever more often than not, so the question almost doesn't apply?

There's a WIP I'm working on right now (unposted, shan't be posted til it's done) that I initially thought of in terms of one character and I've wound up writing it focused on a different character, and I think it would have been a mistake to write it how I initially thought. Thing is, the structure of that fic as initially imagined is [inciting incident with character A and character B]->[character A deals with aftermath of inciting incident with help from character C, sexitimes ensue]. Now, in this fandom A/C is pretty much The Big Ship, and I dig it too, but I also dig the rather underrepresented A/B ship, and I realized before I started actually writing it made more sense to just stick with B through the whole thing. So that was an almost case.

There's a other sort of almost case in that I have an old, now-abandoned MCU fic that, part of the reason I abandoned it is I no longer ship the central ship of that fic. If one of the two characters were different, if i hadn't chosen that pairing, I might have either stuck with the story or picked it back up and finished it at some point. But, even so, I'm not sure I can say that I wish I had picked different, because--well, for one thing, at the time I started writing it, there really wasn't an alternative ship I was interested in at all, but also with a different characters it wouldn't have been the story it is, and I enjoyed it at the time. I still enjoy things about it, even though it's no longer my cuppa. And actually, I have a new MCU fic planned that, in many ways, is an updated rehash of a lot of what I was exploring with that old one, with different characters involved and framed very differently.

So...I guess the answer is, no, I don't wish I would have chosen differently. I just go and choose differently.

I think most worldbuilding has to go to the Lycanthropic Studies series. I have so many notes. There are academic lectures about werewolves in the fic.

For someone who doesn't write extensive AUs, that kind of filling in the holes in canon's worldbuilding is about as much worldbuilding as I'm gonna hit with a fic.

Weirdly, least worldbuilding is harder to figure out.

I guess To Tell The Truth, cuz that's just, y'know, Wyoming. But it kinda depends on what we mean by "worldbuilding" here.

Cuz I do quite a lot of research for To Tell the Truth--I've never been to Wyoming, and it's a period piece--and there's a lot I'm doing with OCs and stuff to flesh out the social world around Jack Ennis, bring the reality of that time and place to life.

So, maybe it's the underrepresented A/B ship fic mentioned above, cuz I sure am handwaving a lot of plot and world details in favor of locking those two in a motel room and making them talk. But then again, I've actually worked out some sci-fi medical crap for this one.

So who knows!

Never apologize for ranting about the things you love on your own blog! If you can’t do it on a blogging platform, where else can you do it?

I’m assuming the numbers are a specific digit. I won’t assume you have Photoshop or anything like that, but if you can download a free program like Paint.Net I would use the text feature to type those numbers out on a font and colour you like, arrange them into a necklace shape, and layer them over the neck of whatever faceclaim you end up using. I’ve done similar things with adding stuff to my icons before such as blood, tears, scars or tattoos. Does it look completely professional? Eh, no really. But it works for the aesthetic and showing people what your character is meant to look like. Even better if you format your icons to a smaller size like 150x150 or smaller bc then you can’t really pick up on subtle signs a photo has been altered

It might be worth it to bring that idea to an icon maker and see if that’s something you could commission for if you’re not confident in your photo editing abilities.

//They are indeed! The numbers aren't actually ever given in canon, but the opening credits of the show has all the major cast and crew names come up onscreen as numbers that blur into letters. I used Danny's actor's numbers for the numbers around Cypher's neck and Alex's actor's numbers for the numbers around Cypher's wrists. (Alex was Danny's boyfriend.) I don't have photoshop, but I'm currently relearning how to use GIMP, which is a free, open-source software in the same vein as photoshop. I used to use it all the time for making promos, transparencies, and icons. Not using it for like 2 years has left me a bit rusty, but I'm starting to get the hang of it again. I'll have to check out Paint.Net and see how that is to use. Thus far I've got a mostly finished transparency of Ben Whishaw in the role of Danny and references for Cypher's antlers and ears. I have a vague idea of how to change his hair color and bits of his skin color to match his roe deer coloring. That image is waist up and doesn't include his hands, so I don't have to worry about his claws or deer legs. If I can get one decent image I swear I'm gonna make like 8 different icons out of it on top of a promo. XD

And thank you! I'm glad you think he sounds interesting! He's not generated a whole lot of interest thus far, but I'm hoping getting together a promo for him that I can put on my canon blogs might help. This fandom seems pretty good with OCs, and he is, for all intents and purposes, basically that when it comes to his not being canon to this universe. Although to be honest, his canon blog didn't generate a whole lot of interest in the Bond/Criminal Minds/Hannibal/assorted-spy-type-things fandom, either. But that might be because he's from a relatively obscure source (for something that's not even 10 years old) that's not the most watchable thing in the world, I'll be honest. I enjoy it, but I'm also the sort of person who will sit down and watch Metropolis just because. He comes from a spy thriller-esque miniseries called London Spy. It's rather dense and kind of gritty and has a lot of details that only become important like two episodes later.
