Thinking. Abt this but with Bones. Like. Post-Tholian Web? Post-Mirror Mirror?
For AOS, could be after Into Darkness and/or Beyond.
A Bones who's just. So anxious. So stressed. So overwhelmed that it starts taking a toll on his health. Maybe he doesn't even realise - or maybe he does and tries his best to push through it until it knocks him on his ass. Kind of in the vein of "You don't actually know how tired you are until you stop. And then you just physically cannot start again." It becomes his new baseline, a problem that just brews and storms in the distance.
And he just carries on. And keeps going and going and going until one day he realises that 'Oh fuck, I'm not okay' and has about 5 seconds of warning before he straight up collapses, doesn't matter if it's on the bridge, in the madbay, on a planet - he's going down. (Maybe a repeat of Tholian Web where he just straight up faints into Spock's arms? Full whammy, why not)
Maybe it's a high-tension situation getting resolved that does it. The pure relief of it reminds him of how tired he is. How tired he's been for a while. His body sees that momentary rest and goes "More of that, please. And I'm not asking."
And he's so rendered by it that he doesn't grumble about being coddled like he normally would when he wakes up. He knows not to fuck with the medbay staff - they're just as firm as he is on recovery, and that's not by accident - and he knows that Spock and Kirk will be hovering, because they see any problem as something they, too, should shoulder the burden of.
...And because they're some of the most protective people in the damned universe. And that goes for pretty much all the people on board the Enterprise.
In some scenarios, it's just a case of letting his body and mind rest properly. In others, there's a lot more recovery involved than anyone initially expects. Luckily for him, he has a found family who are determined to be there with him at every step. It just takes a couple reminders, every once in a while.

okay weird q incoming but what ways do you think speedsters can get sick? Like to my understanding, they can’t really come down with normal virus’ like the flu, right? But they could get things like chronic migraines?
NANOBOTS!!! This is one of the best pieces of canon lore ever. I did a whole post on it but TLDR: normal human metabolisms have so much shit going on that they don't even notice nanobots in their body BUT speedsters have hyper accelerated metabolisms that are the equivalent of the straight A's overachiever in school on meth. So speedster metabolisms do notice nanobots and they attack full force, triggering all of the body's defenses and responses.
But the nanobots are metal so it obviously doesn't do anything. It just leaves the speedster lethargic, feverish, vomiting, dizzy, with a headache, sore muscles and a runny nose, ect. It's basically an allergic reaction.
Now, poisoning them can work depending on what the poison is/what the dosage is. You would need a 100% fatal poison and you would need a fairly high dose. Because speedsters heal fast and they have a hyper accelerated metabolism, so any poison that is based on toxicity (alcohol poisoning for example) would be out of their system faster than it could even take effect.
But poisons that can't be cleared out/processed by the body (take cyanide for example, it binds with the chemical receptors in your body making it physically impossible to use oxygen) wouldn't really be affected by their metabolism at all. So while the speedsters could heal the damaged tissues from these poisons fairly quickly (making it seem as though they were only slightly affected) they would ultimately need time to do so, time they would not have if it kills them first. This isn't technically what you are asking because there would be no substance that 'makes them sick', there would only be 'fine', 'not fine for like a minute and then fine again' and 'dead'. (... unless they were hooked up to a steady supply of the toxin)
Likewise, (this is getting more into theoretical territory, less canon) there might be some illnesses that would affect them? Not for long but if you got something super fucking fatal like Rabies, it might make them display mild cold symptoms for a day or something.
I don't know though. They have really fucking good immune systems. And even super fatal diseases can be fought. Take my example of Rabies, while it is commonly thought to be 100% fatal once symptoms show up there actually have been cases of people surviving it. Rabies is a very stealthy and fast disease, so the main problem with treating it is that your body's immune system isn't fast enough to stop it. People have survived by being placed in medically induced comas (slowing their bodily functions and thus the disease) for long enough that the medication can eradicate it. So for a speedster? That's gone in a minute tops. You would need an insane disease that I'm not sure even exists.
There's also like... pregnancy and menstruation. Growing pains, muscle pain from running is a BIG ONE, being dehydrated/starvation, blood loss, ect. Lots of ways to fuck with a speedster in a way they can't immediately fix.
There are also speedster specific ailments. It's basically 50/50 if a natural born speedster gets a weird highly fatal aging disease. Sometimes speedsters can be born without a kinetic energy shield which makes using their powers at all incredibly fatal to them. All speedsters will have connectivity issues at some point that can be fatal. Sometimes Time Gets Bad™ (shout out to when Barry kept chronically stealing time from people/things every time he used his powers). Sometimes they have too much energy and can't maintain human form (shout out to when Wally didn't know what the speedforce was and was accidentally cosplaying Ghost Rider). Velocity 9 is a highly addictive drug that works on speedsters and makes them display typical addiction behavior (and withdrawal). V9 can also cause a speedster to 'overdose' (burst into flames/lightning/energy). They all have the constant urge to yeet themselves into the speedforce. Ect.

consider this a prelude to my essay on the theme of dehumanization in doatk's narrative but it's interesting how despite having souls as a clear thing, part of a person's being, the story never leans heavily into corruptive transhumanism, almost defying it a little, really. the closest there's been yet is the wreck, mainly on account of Use of the taking someone's soul and putting it in a robot trope, and not going much further than that: the remaining soul of guptill is not depicted as transcending its physical form in much of any way. hamood is also roughly an example of one's "self" remaining intact despite changes to one's body, but that's generally presented as an effect of his immense General power & not entirely some quality of his soul in particular, and overall a goner's "persistence of the self" in their new physical ferms varies on a fairly case-by-case basis; if the theory that will won't act differently than his standard for normal as the ventriloquist comes true, it's thanks to his specific background & the effect of such a thing on the humor of the story (i.e. rule of funny). again, this all is so despite the fact that people's souls are depicted as overall intact & unmodified, which makes souls' position in lore much more like a nonspecific quality of a person required for life rather than the specifically transhumanist concept they most often are

i think about the fact that Nico’s powers randomly include temperature control way too much. he can make stuff cold! and is apparently immune to cold himself, at least to some degree! why? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯probably ghost reasons! even though it is not inherently tied to ghosts at all and he can just Do That!

kinda funny to me to think about Aki paired with reader who's much more into giving than receiving. showering Aki in praise, helping him with everything, comforting and wiping off his tears, protecting from any sort of danger, prioritizing Aki's pleasure when they're making love.
how confused Aki would be, trying to figure out how to thank them, what he could give to them.
reader doesn't really need anything in return. they just incredible happy because their heart filled with so much affection and love is finally accepted.
this is so perfect anon I love your mind
aki wouldn't be used to it, not at all. he's so selfless; he longs to give everything he has to the person he loves, that's just the kind of person he is. but when you're so obsessed with taking care of him, he doesn't really know how to react... he won't admit this, but all he knows is he really loves it.
it feels amazing to be taken care of by you, to have you comfort him when he's upset and hold him close, stroking his back and cooing gentle words into his ears. the way you seem to only care about his pleasure and making him feel good is so overwhelming, but so perfect. you give him more love than he thinks he deserves.
he's truly so grateful. all aki wants to do is melt in your arms and have you take all his worries away.

https://www.tumblr.com/lover-of-mine/730528837712134144/you-know-what-i-just-noticed-we-never-got-eddies you know for me the logical conclusion of this is Eddie yelling at buck in a blow up fight that he doesn’t know what being hurt does to him
No, but the thing with that post is that even tho Buck pretty much always almost dies with an audience, Eddie's reaction is never the one we are supposed to focus on once we know Buck is safe, which is interesting in contrast with the way that all of Eddie's near-death experiences, the audience is Buck, so he's the only one we follow through them.
But also so true, Eddie blowing up that he just doesn't want to watch after Buck does something that puts him in danger would be nice. A fight along this lines (sorry the scene appeared in my head and I WILL NOT start another attempt to get them to fight because I can't make them fight so have this here)
"Because you died!" Eddie all but screams and Buck huffs, rolling his eyes.
"That's not about you."
"Am I supposed to just get over-" Eddie stops himself, raising his arms in defense, taking a few steps back, but Buck follows.
"No, get over what?" He challenges, staring him down, and Eddie stares right back, dropping his arms, squaring his shoulders, and bringing his hands together in front of him, falling into stance almost on instinct.
"I had to get you down, I had to resuscitate you, I had to shock you, but yeah, it was so easy for me," he says, voice surprisingly level, and Buck's eyes widen.
"That's not-"
"No, Buck, you're right," he interrupts, moving his arms as if to dismiss him, "it's not about me, do whatever you want, but stop expecting me to watch," he says, turning on his heels and leaving before Buck could say anything else.

That feeling when you are suddenly struck by how much you care about a person 🤝 the pain when you realise they don't feel nearly as strongly about you as you do about them
This happens to me a lot. It is happening to me now and I do not like it.

sometimes i really vibe with disco elysiums brief moments of quiet apathetic misery that are distinctly intimate in the way they cradle you with melancholy’s ice cold hands. you almost want to savor the despair, pull it over you and be consumed by that awful, beautiful feeling of hopelessness. regret can taste so good. it’s a place other than the future, past, or present -- a realm of its own. time moves on, always ticking, travelling down one road forever, but here there is only sinking. to the depths of water you fall, the sound of rushing water so hypnotic and suffocating. a sensation in the back of your neck, the relaxing weight of resignation. as you’re anchored to the bottom, your mind detaches and floats to the surface. fine. you don’t need that here anyway. you don’t think, you only suffer. all that awaits you here is suffering. isnt it wonderful that you can predict everything here perfectly? there are no variables, just a buzzing in your chest aided by your concrete-filled lungs. it’s like they’re glowing. you once swam through your thoughts, but now you sink like a rock. she floats above it all, of course she does. she peers into the water and her reflection fragments in the waves. she can’t even see you. she would look away anyway. oh, beautiful, beautiful suffering, never leave me. all i have left is what you take from me.
that’s what it feels like to me anyway lol haha!!
