Sydney Adamu; Donna's antithesis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE BIG PARALLEL: THE QUEEN OF THE KITCHEN
Donna's introduction to the audience is in her kitchen, where she is the leader, the center of the action; all orders come from her, and the dynamic in the family is created primarily by her. She has assigned (indirectly or so) the roles of all the family members that keep the family working in the way it does. She is the queen, the leader—a role she was given by nature.
And what is Sydney's job in the kitchen? The CDC, even when she was a sous, she was already taking the responsibilities of the CDC. She is their queen, their leader in their kitchen—a role she was given by choice.
The writers had given Sydney every opportunity to be Donna so they could show us how much of Donna she is not. Here are my favorite examples of it.
Donna brings guilt, and Sydney brings grace.
Tumblr media
Donna created her daughter's nickname after a mistake she made as a kid (probably when Nat was nervous and afraid to fail her), messing up a recipe.
Sydney gave grace to Tina when she messed up the recipe for the mashed potatoes. Sydney could have used that opportunity to get back at Tina for making her look bad in front of Carmy and all the other stuff. Sydney decided to be the bigger person; God, Sydney was not trying to make Tina own or like her. She just decided that is not what she is. She acknowledged that Tina was trying something new and wanted to be available in case Tina needed help. Sydney gave Tina clear expectations, recognized the task's difficulty, and offered help. Later, she was graceful when a mistake was made, and gave positive reinforcement when the job was well done. We learned then that Tinas was terribly afraid of being displaced or not good enough. Sydney is giving Tina all the things Donna should have given Nat.
Another exmaple of this is when Richie and Sydney are shopping for caulk. She just buys the right one; she doesn't rub it in his face or call him stupid or careless. In all their conversation, Sydney tried to understand more, not put more fire into the pile. Richie recognizes that, and I think this is when he starts to respect her, even a little.
Donna brings chaos, Sydney brings order.
Both women have the role of being the center (heart) of the kitchen. Only Donna can touch the food in her kitchen, while Sydney delegates the kitchen tasks to the restaurant employees.
Donna gives the absence of self, and Sydney brings purpose.
To please their mother, try to win her love, or just survive the household dynamics, the Berzatto siblings had to adopt behaviors/personalities that were not natural to them. Mickey was at least 18 when his father left; he took the provider position by helping her mom run the restaurant. He also took care of his siblings. He was his ultimate ally in helping the family feel like a family, particularly by always being capable of "dialing a room" to make everyone feel entertained, appreciated, have fun, and be a family. For all these reasons, he was Donna's favorite, and the other two siblings were neglected because of it. Neither Nat of Carmy felt really like she was there for them; she probably didn't encourage Carmy to draw or Nat in anything. Nat and Carmy grew up believing their talents/nature were useless because they didn't please their mom. Neither of them recognizes the things they are good at outside the kitchen: Nat diminishes her husband's compliments on her hard work, and Carmy ignores compliments on his drawings.
Sydney, on the other hand, can encourage Marcus to follow his passion for baking. She supports Tina in her culinary journey to the point of her becoming the third person in charge. She asked Nat to be the project manager because, in the few interactions she had with her, she perceived (or it was intuition) Nat's attention to detail, caring nature, and responsibility. In the climax of the second season, she trusts Richie to do the calling of the orders when she has no reason to believe he can, and he solidifies his purpose. Sydney "nurtured" everybody's natural talents and trusted them to walk independently. That is what a good parent or leader does. It is such a brilliant subtext. Important to note she doesn't do that with Carmy, because Carmy is her equal, her partner-to-be.
Other ones:
There is also to mention the fact that Sydney was a professional driver, and Donna tried to crash a car in her own house. Talking about metaphors.
Also, Sydney doesn't indulge in any of the toxic behaviors that the Berzattos learned from Donna, neither Carmy nor Richie's bullshit nor the rest of the staff. Little by little, she fought fire with water, and she won, maybe because she is more like a river than a drop. She had a purpose on her own, an identity, a past that she kept to herself, and a desire to move forward. People started to respect her the more they relied on her and the more she didn't give in to the toxic traits that were ruling them before. They saw the good and followed it.
Sydney may not rely on toxic dynamics to lead her kitchen, but she will not let others take advantage of her. She did not pick on Carmy's slack last season for him but despite him. She doesn't believe that is what she is supposed to do, not only as her employee but friend and possible romantic interest. She calls the bad behaviors/tendencies by it's name. And communicates she won't have it, while also saying she belives in him.
Tumblr media
I think most of the audience (besides the ones in this fandom) really doesn't understand how extraordinary Sydney is. If she wasn't as well-written as she is, with defects and fears, people would think that she is the "saint woman/magic woman" archetype, making everything previously broken work in her presence. I also think it is because she is a woman, and women are expected to bring magic and be fixers and helpers. There is also the fact that she is a black woman, and everything that comes with that, but I cannot comment on that, so I am not going to. Just saying she is one of the most amazing role models I have seen, decorated with the price of also being one of the most complex female characters on screen. She is not perfect as a person and has not reached her whole potential, and she wants it. I respect and admire her so much. Even when Carmy seems to have a longer path of healing ahead, I want Sydney to win the most, not just heal. I want to know more about her, her intimate desires, and why is her heart broken. Long gone are the days when women lived on screen to make everybody around them better and happier. All the things she is extraordinary for, the ones I talked about, are not just reasons why Carmy had admired her or fallen for her. She is, for me, a champion preparing for live-defining battles. We know who she is, and we get to discover what else she could be, to grow in her self-confidence, her purpose, and what brings pleasure to her soul. She is considered now the show's co-protagonist.
And I hope in s3 we are in for a journey. She made all the difference. Thank you for reading.

This is a sort of response to a post I've seen floating around, drawing parallels between the chains in Blitz’s trip that bind him to Stolas and the chains that bind Husk, Angel, and Fizz to Alastor, Valentino, and Mammon respectively. I'm not commenting on that post directly bc I avoid Discourse (tm) at all costs for the sake of my health, and I don’t want to get drawn into an unproductive argument that will mess with my anxiety for a week. I'm not trying to start a fight, just get my thoughts out on why I feel that comparison is inaccurate, and hopefully provide some helpful context and nuance.
So! Let's start with a few disclaimers! First of all, I'm not going to debate the moral purity of any of these characters. I just don't think it's an interesting or valuable critique. On a related note, I am not trying to excuse any of their behavior. I'm happy to admit that my favorite characters in this show have hurt people and are sometimes total assholes. Stolas treated Blitz very poorly at the beginning of their relationship, frequently pushed or even ignored boundaries, and was just kind of a dick about things. My objection to a direct comparison between Stolas and the other characters mentioned above isn't because I think Stolas hasn't done anything wrong; I just think that saying they're similar without further clarification or commentary ignores the nuance of the situation.
Read on below the cut, it's gonna be another long one folks!
Let's start by examining the "agreements" forged by Val, Mammon, and Alastor. I think it's important to note that, in their cases, the person they got to sign their contract could have been anyone. Husk and Angel could have been any sinners, Fizz could have been any imp. They aren't interested in them as people; they were only using them to gain more power for themselves. The only thing that matters to them is, "What can you do for me?" Angel and Fizz quite clearly become cogs in the machine of Val and Mammon's businesses, and Alastor only thinks of Husk as a tool to be leveraged in specific situations to further his own mysterious goals. Each of them has demonstrated to their subjugates that they own them, body and soul. They have signed legally and spiritually binding contracts that essentially surrender their autonomy to a more powerful demon.
Stolas and Blitz’s agreement is... not that. In the most literal sense, they don’t appear to have made any sort of binding deal. They just made a verbal agreement, which I sincerely doubt has anywhere near the force of a signed soul contract. Additionally, Stolas did not ask for and does not seem to want that sort of total control over Blitz. He very clearly does not view this as any sort of power exchange (which may actually be part of the issue, since it leaves him blind to Blitz’s discomfort with their class difference), he sees it as "favors for favors." While this agreement is inherently unbalanced due to Stolas's status, it's worth noting that they’re both putting something on the line here. The other three risk practically nothing (if the person bound to them fails they can always get a new one), but Stolas IS taking on a real risk by letting Blitz access the living world illegally using his book. Again, that doesn't make his actions right, and probably helped him to justify them, but it does set their relationship apart from the others.
In my opinion, some of Stolas's greatest flaws are his thoughtlessness and his ability to justify his own actions to himself. This manifests in the fact that he clearly doesn't see the ways in which their relationship is hurting Blitz. He convinced himself that this was just an equal exchange, and a continuation of the dynamic Blitz established in their first encounter as adults: "I fuck you, and you give me the book". As he becomes more aware of his feelings for Blitz, though (stay tuned for a deeper analysis of this progression later), he also begins to realize that Blitz isn't happy with this relationship. And this, as @masonshmason pointed out, is the central fact that separates Stolas and Blitz from the other relationships. Stolas did not realize- or chose to ignore- how he was hurting Blitz. Once he came to terms with it, though, he understood that he had to make things right. He specifically says this in "Just Look My Way"; "I will try to make amends/ For making you means to an end". None of the others could say this, because in their case, that was the POINT. Angel, Fizz, and Husk were ALWAYS a means to an end, intentionally trapped for that purpose.
We also need to talk about the CONTEXT of the scenes in which the chain imagery appears. For both Angel and Husk, the chain is at least semi-literal, a physical (and perhaps supernatural) manifestation of the way their souls are bound to an overlord. In "Two Minutes Notice," Fizz purposely CHOOSES to represent his relationship to Mammon as chains around his wrists. However, Blitz's scene is part of a drug trip after being forcibly dosed with hallucinogens. It does not exist in any literal sense, nor is it a representation of Blitz’s conscious, literal thoughts. What it DOES do is showcase Blitz’s deepest fears and his greatest flaws through symbolism and metaphor. Blitz is not literally afraid of being forced to wear a clown costume; he is afraid he'll never escape his past traumas or Fizz's shadow. THIS is the context in which Blitz sees himself being chained by Stolas: a bad trip all about his fear of intimacy and vulnerability.
Stolas appears in this trip as someone elevated high above him, something he's climbing towards, reaching for, even though it means being chained to him. It's directly preceded by his ex girlfriend and his former best friend berating him for how he pushes people away even though he hates being alone. Then Stolas directly asks him, "Are you afraid to love people, Blitzy?" Furthermore, the WAY in which he is framed is alluring, slightly hazy, golden and tempting. It couldn’t be further from the ugly, slime-covered past he's fleeing. It's a new start, a chance for something better that seems too good to be true. This trip is all about Blitz’s inability to be vulnerable with another person. The chain around his neck is a representation of the fact that, by getting closer to Stolas, he's giving Stolas the power to hurt him emotionally.
Tumblr media
And man, there's a part of him that wants to give Stolas that power. At this critical moment, he's not baring his teeth in defiance or anger. He's blushing, just slightly, and he looks... nervous. Blitz's instinct, when things get too real, is to cut and run. Hurt them before they can hurt you. Abandon them before they have the chance to leave you. It’s how he tanked his relationship with Verosika. This is a manifestation of what might happen if he stays. This is the sort of trouble he can't fight his way out of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the emotional climax of the scene. There are so many ways they could have gone with this if they wanted to represent Blitz being chained and trapped by his agreement with Stolas. If that was the fear--if that was the POINT--they could have had the chains wrap around him until he couldn't move, or glow white hot and burn into his skin, or a million other more direct metaphors. But the chains aren't the thing that hurts him. It's the feathers: the thing that's left behind after Stolas abandons him, sing-songing "you're going to die alone" right alongside two other people who he loved and who now want nothing to do with him.
Finally, let's look at Blitz’s reaction to this scene. It's a moment of revelation for him, in which he realizes he's pushing everyone away and starts to make an effort to change. It's why he's a bit more open with Moxxie in the next scene. The trip sequence ALSO inspires him to get closer to Stolas, indicating that the trip didn’t make him realize "I'm trapped and I need to get out of this" in the same way Fizz did. Rather, he realizes that he doesn't want Stolas to leave him like everyone else, and he wants to start feeling out what it would be like to deepen the connection between them. As I've mentioned in other posts, their kiss at the end of "truth seekers" represents a level of intimacy that we haven't seen before; it's teasing, affectionate, shows Blitz’s interest in making Stolas happy, and takes place in front of M&M, who have repeatedly teased him about their relationship before.
In summary, while the image of chains may have been invoked in all four of these relationships, they don’t necessarily mean the same thing across the board. Blitz and Stolas's relationship differs substantially from the others in its dynamic, and the context of their scene also sets it apart. It's important to look into the details and the nuance of their relationship to interpret what's going on under layers of trauma and unreliable narration.

Cherry Magic Episode 12
Tumblr media
MY HEART IS FO FULL. This adaptation has exceeded my wildest expectations to become one of my favorite bls of all time. They really put their backs into it and gave us everything we could want for these characters, and I will always be grateful. This show managed to be a faithful manga adaptation, a loving homage to the jbl, and a fresh take on the story all at once. An amazing feat to pull off and this creative team deserves so much love and kudos.
Tumblr media
The way Achi and Karan have grown together over the course of this show has been fantastic to witness. I love how seriously the show took their growth, and that we got to see them put in the work to improve their communication and become a great team. Meeting the parents was a big step for them, especially because they were uncertain how their respective families would react, but I loved that they were so open with each other throughout about how they were feeling. I loved, too, that we got a contrast, with Achi's mom being so warm and loving (but still managing to get a dig in on her son, lmao) and Karan's being more avoidant and passive aggressive and needing a talking to her from her eldest child to get her shit together. I love that the drama created space for things to not go perfectly with the parents, and to show us that people can be moved to acceptance.
We got a bit of a parallel with that message in Jinta and Min's story this week, with Min's fans initially attacking Jinta, but backing off once Min named him as his faen and asked them to respect his relationship. I like the choice to model positive fan behavior, and it felt a bit pointed from this production company. Both with Pai and now with this new group of fans, the show has said consistently that being a fan should be about love and support, not control. That you can admire your idols but you also need to give them privacy. That it's not your place to judge who they love. I just love that message.
Tumblr media
Of course, I have to talk about the mutual proposal and the wedding. I am pretty sure Karan has been carrying that ring around in his pocket since the second day of dating, but it was such a welcome surprise to see that Achi had already made his own plans, too. The show really succeeded in taking this relationship from something that felt a little one-sided to a very mutual partnership I can believe in. I teared up when right along with Karan when Achi followed Karan's proposal with his own, and you could see how much it meant to him to know that Achi is really truly on the same page. Getting to see their wedding and the love surrounding them on their special day was the cherry (lol) on top of this fantastic love story. I also absolutely loved the wink to the jbl elevator non-kiss in the way they framed their final married couple kiss and then cut away from the bed.
Tumblr media
Continuing the love fest, I also love the changes this version made to the side couple's story. Min getting to fulfill his dream, Jinta being an excellent supportive partner, their agreement that they will marry someday when they're ready--it was all just lovely. The nod to the jbl pen proposal was cute, and I love that they took it a step further by drawing rings on each other. The flip in the sexual relationships was also quite welcome, with that triumphant arc reserved for the main couple in this version. Jinta ended the show with his magical powers still intact, but it didn't seem like that would be the case for long.
Tumblr media
As for Rock and Pai, I am happy with how the show handled their story. To the end, Pai stayed true to herself, and Rock came to know her better and understand what kind of romantic relationship he could reasonably expect from her. She will always have her head more on her ships than on her own love life, and he seems okay with it. I think you can still take an aroace read on this Pai if you choose, and I appreciate that the show made space for that. I like, too, that Pai helped Rock reconnect with his own passion for dancing and find a fun outlet for his creativity. They were another reinforcement of this show's overarching themes about the importance of kindness, support, and clear communication in relationships.
Tumblr media
This show left me with such a warm feeling. I'm so glad they stuck the landing, that episode 8 never happened, and that we can rewatch and remember this Cherry Magic so fondly. I never expected Thailand to go so above and beyond the original live action drama, but they have undoubtedly delivered my favorite version of this story.

Hi idk if anyone has asked this before but do you think there are thematic implications to Sangah liking works from Murakami Haruki, Raymond Carver, Han Kang.
Yeah, I'm not super familiar with all of the authors myself but I did some basic research while writing Wall fic so I have an opinion about this. First of all, the internationality of these picks shows YSA is well read, but this different kind of well read than KDJ. Her interest in international literature is somewhat connected to her backstory of being from a richer family that wanted to marry her off in my mind bc international language education is somewhat status/wealth associated in modern South Korea. Second of all the kinds of authors she picks out are the type who write singular, artistic works that tend to start from a point of realism and make a comment about the characters' navigation of Society. So the type of reading she's doing isn't sitting down and obsessively following a 3000 chapter webnovel that can only exist through the conglomeration of niche trope after niche trope to be completely understood. I see her as a girlie who like. Will check the new York times best seller list and just buy or check out a new book to read if she hears good things. So this authors of singular works and short stories being her favorite shows she doesn't really follow extensive Series, she's not the type who needs constant updates to keep on living lol. She's the type who occasionally read novels for literature classes which graduated to occasionally reading novels in her free time. Not saying that she reads popular novels just to seem cultured like mister 'art of war on my desk' but I think she is someone who can see opening a book like stumbling upon a television program that just happens to be on you know it's not a major time commitment or something that will rewire her brain and then she'll have thoughts about language use and literary opinions you know.
Then the one author I'm more familiar with is Han Kang and I actually didn't remember her being listed by YSA but you're probably right and I just forgot bc I know Han Kang from reading the Vegetarian more than I know her from being referenced in ORV I guess lol. Han Kang is a popular modern author in South Korea who has both been somewhat of an icon for feminism (I think?) And is definitely a representative of the Trauma literature movement. She grew up in Gwangju and lived through the aftermath of the Gwangju uprising (the people suffered violent oppression and censorship under leadership at the time) and in an interview she once described herself as someone who writes to ask questions instead of answer them. The Vegetarian is an example of a work of hers that starts off very ingrained in reality and slowly becomes surreal in a way that could still exist in the real world but could be interpreted as containing fantasy elements. I think it's interesting to me to draw parallels to YSA here bc the vegetarian is a story about a traumatized woman being controlled and used by other people. Spoilers for the vegetarian I guess but the main character decides to be vegetarian one day without a 'societally acceptable' reason and this 'embarrasses' the people around her so much that they try to force her to change. After she is abused by her husband, father, and brother in law, this experience is held parallel to something she experienced as a child, when she was friends with a small dog and then the dog bit her. Local folk medicine said killing and eating the dog was the only way to cure sickness from a dog bite and she felt no remorse as everyone agreed the dog must be eaten. Forgetting 'the natural order' revokes the rights of personhood or humanity, when the main character of the Vegetarian descends into a psychosis trying to escape participating in the violence of the world around her by 'becoming a plant,' it's shown at the end how even her own sister struggles to see her as a person who can still be spoken with or make her own decisions. So yeah it's pretty fucked up and I have some more specific opinions on it ( like I've written essays about it) but as it relates to YSA the Vegetarian is very much about the POV of outsiders following another person's struggles which I find a very interesting in parallel to YSA leafing through KDJ's memories as his wall librarian. I also think her familiarity with trauma literature as a genre may be off-putting to KDJ specifically because these realistic type stories with a bit of fiction are quite similar in genre to the book his own mother wrote, in fact I find it extremely likely that in the world of ORV YSA read LSK's book somewhere before. I think they're also not the kind of books that get overly silly/ have a 'happy ending' by convention, which is interesting to me bc I see passivity vs agency as an important theme concerning YSA's arc throughout the story and whether or not she has an ability to create a happy ending or not is interesting. Like the little 'you knew??' moment in the epilogues is very important bc YSA and KDJ come from this same 'real world' and because of that neither of them really expected a Happy Ending you know. I like that YSA goes through the journey of beginning to Believe in it before KDJ comes back bc you know it shows that perspective can be changed before we even get to him it's really good.

EVERYONE ELSE GO HOME YOU ARE MY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE ENTIRE WORLD FOR THE NEXT HOW EVER LONG THIS TAKES YOU TO READ. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS.
Ladies, gents, all of the above below and in between here is my rambles about new life sparrow because he has infested my mind like the skulk that infests him.
OK WERE DO I EVEN BEGIN WITH THIS GUY
Okokokokookokooo SO
We love a flawed character who has good intentions and a not so good way of showing them. he comes off as over enthusiastic and insensitive at first with his studies of hybrids. which is....just a tad bit relatable as someone often seen as energetic i can be too much for people at times so i get it.
Also everyone that drew the parallels between the way Sparrow talks about hybrids and O!Owen talked about demons is correct. it's terrifying. and if sparrow ever goes down that arc i will write incredibly angsty fanfiction about it and cry.
If you haven't already im going to point anyone reading this in the direction of my New life smp fic, Storming sacrifices on ao3 by Salty_R3mix cause thats where a lot of this next part comes from.
i head cannon that on New life when players die/switch hybrids they have to fall into a coma like state to do so and it takes time in between those shifts. Sparrow is on the longer side of these shifts for the more drastic the change the longer. to go from human to machine and then machine to skulk. thats like a solid month or two of their body just reforming and recreating. both times.
ALSO THE MOST RELATABLE THING ABOUT HIM.
HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE HUMAN.
WHICH IS JUST SO SAME BESTIE LIKE IF I LIVED IN A WORLD WHERE PEOPLE GET COOL TRAITS AND MAGICAL POWERS AND I WAS JUST BORING? YEAH I WOULD STUDY THEM AND TRY TO BE ONE TO! BOLD OF YOU TO ASSUME MY LOVE FOR FANTASY AND MAGIC ISN'T ALREADY BASED OFF THE NEED TO ESCAPE THE REAL WORLD BECAUSE IT SUCKS AND ITS BORING ANDGHYKULKNBVGVUKL
Anyway hes also insane. like, i get it. but also you could have found a away to make the process less painful im sure. hes smart. but his egarness got the best of him.
Anyway one of my favorite things to think about and debate is the 'chip' in his head. cause to me and my messed up little mind that has read well over at least 20 hours worth of sbi hybrid fanfiction in the summer of 2022. to me that just sounds like instinct. hot take but i don't think it was that big of a deal. what was wrong with the situation was prior to becoming a copper golem, Sparrow was human. if any other hybrid became a copper golem. they would be a lot less bothered by it. Sparrow was not used to that sheer level of inhumane instinct that it overwhelmed him and he just let it. t Not knowing what else to do. until eventually getting so lost and consumed by it that he had to you know....blend himself.
I miss him though. i like robots. and he was so fun to draw. i draw him all the time. just because the design i made for him is one of my favorite things ever.
OH AND SKULK SPARROW. THIS MAN. HE IS SO MESSED UP. THE NARRATIVE CAME CRASHING DOWN IN FRONT OF HIM AND SCREAMED THAT HE IS DOOMED.
I haven't seen a character so demised by the narrative that wasn't my own since outsiders Apo and maybeeeeeeee Celio form wtd. beside the point.
He is so overwhelmed and underwhelmed at the same time its iconic. one seconded hes lonely after copper literally abandoned any former relationships. the next he can hear things through the skulk. but then he brings a guy down. kills him. decides to build a gate. AGAIN. WE KNOW HOW THIS ENDED LAST TIME OWEN. WHEN HAVE GATES EVER WORKED IN YOUR FAVOR. i think it's just a cannon event for them at this point. Owen with gates and Apo with levers. (GUYS IM JOKING HERE. DON'T CARY THIS CURSE INTO PIRATES PLEASE LET THEM BE HAPPY FOR ONCE)
Ok yeah. Im really excited to watch skulk and other versions of sparrow later realize that no matter what monstrosity he ends up as. he'll never be as free as he was human again. Every hybrid comes with their own form of instinct that he will be forced to follow. some lighter than others. and hell, even if he does end up as human again the effects are still there forever lingering.
ALSO I AM HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH THE 'Wait? His name is sparrow but he still answers to Owen. this clearly must have lore implications.' PEOPLE. To anyone who has ever had that thought you are the best. i've read i think 3? fics based of it and oh my word im obsessed with that idea and the different takes on it.
and here is where i come to a close. do i have more to say? probably. but my hands hurt and my thoughts are slowing in pace so if you want more feel free to ask id be overjoyed but ask another day. i mean i didn't even touch on his interactions with the other players.
i am so clearly sane and stable about this character btw. i don't know what made you think otherwise.

Have you reviewed mr rime? He’s one of my fav regional evos; makes mr mime into a cute lil guy
Tumblr media
As a certified Mr. Mime enjoyer(TM), I'm a huge fan of Mr. Rime. "Mr. Mime evo that becomes Charlie Chaplin" is simply something I never knew I needed in my life but I'm so glad we got.
Thematically, going from Galarian Mr. Mime's tap-dancer theme to Charlie Chaplin's Tramp character makes logical sense. You could argue over whether or not this being a regional evo was necessary, but in this case I think the theme and the ice-based cane and shoes justify it enough, even if it's a shame that regular Mr. Mime gets left in the dust a bit. (Also side note: shoutout to whoever on the translation team came up with the "Mr. Rime" pun.)
The second face is appropriately silly (and likely is based off of the haradashi yokai, which also changes and has a face on its stomach). One of my favorite things about Mr. Rime is that the second face isn't just markings—the eyes on its stomach blink, as well as change expression. It's so bizarre that I can't help but love it.
Tumblr media
And design-wise, this lad is delightful. The little mustache's shape is paralleled by the hair on the head, which also references the same hair G. Mr. Mime sports. Likewise, the shape of the "tux" parallels similar markings on G. Mr. Mime, and ties back into its icy, well, tie. The triangle nose becomes the mustache, and I think it's neat that the "hat" basically just covers its bald spot. It basically has its own unique design, but there's enough there to see how it continues from G. Mr. Mime.
The yellow spots draw attention to the two sets of eyes, while the red helps draw attention to the second face specifically. There's a good blend of blue, dark bluish purple, and light blue found in the rest of the design as well. I also appreciate the ice cane and shoes, as it works as a visual indication of the new typing that wouldn't be clear otherwise. The vaudevillian aspects are obvious, and this guy just oozes personality, even when not animated.
Overall, this is a 10/10 for me. Great concept, ties back into the pre-evo both thematically and visually, and has a ton of personality. You guy, funky little man.

Round 1 poll 23: Judas Iscariot from the Bible vs Reynard the Fox from mideaval European Folklore

Propaganda under the cut:
Judas Iscariot
so i've always been sort of fascinated with the judas kiss as a thing in the bible. i was just always like dang it's wild that that exists. i would attempt to draw/paint/sketch it constantly in high school and i didn't really know why. the way i learned the name of the garden of gethsemane properly was one time i was feeling extremely faint as one does and as i was gripping my head on the floor of the bathroom, face a few inches from the tile, i just heard gethsemane, gethsemane, gethsemane repeating in my head over and over again. and i was like what the fuck is gethsemane and i looked it up and i was like OH. so fast forward a little little bit and i watch the last days of judas iscariot at a formative teenage year of my life and i am WOWED. i watch that last scene with jesus and judas MANY MANY TIMES. i'm OBSESSED i want to carve it out and eat it. after watching the play in full i show it to my actually catholic friend. she enjoys it. something about judas in that play clicks for me, and suddenly there's this whole context for my relationship with judas that makes a lot of sense to me, a traumatized former catholic. i become a HOUND for all media with judas in it. i am like a connoisseur and archive. i am just obsessed with it. i listen to clown bible in full. it makes me cry every time i listen to it. JUDAS by the reverent marigold WRECKS me because it's explicitly about judas as a scapegoat as an allegory for the trans experience with religion and it is a BANGER. like it's so good. i buy a copy of the script of the last days, of corpus christi by terrence mcnally, of judas by jeff loveness. i listen to several versions of jesus christ superstar in full and i am WOWED i did not expect it to be that good. someone on tiktok says that trans men's vocal chords thicken like cis men's on testosterone but don't lengthen, and that these shorter vocal chords make it easier for us to sing in a strong, natural falsetto. and i think about how jcs is full of really high tenors and briefly i start drawing red lines all over my life like, BOY HAS VISION OF GETHSEMANE AND IS TRANS BECAUSE THE UNIVERSE WANTS HIM TO PLAY A PRINCIPLE ROLE IN JCS??? and it's a brief lapse in sanity that i don't take seriously but one of my favorite jcs jesuses also had a weirdly prophetic vision of himself playing the part in jcs (i'm obsessed with him), and i'm like okay. i don't know what to do with all that information. anyway. i haven't played anyone in jcs and likely never will but i am still very attached to judas as like a mythological figure and symbol. i wrote an essay about him for an essay class that ended up being 19 pages unspaced. prof was warned beforehand that it was going to be long and she was very nice and encouraging about it um so thank god for that. yeah i have the absolute weirdest relationship with judas. and it has only been magnified with each new media and seeing people's various takes on judas as either redemptive/antihero/tragic figure/scapegoat/etc etc etc. currently obsessed with the parallels between him and jesus and him and mary magdalene in jcs. jcs ended up kind of extending the obsession to the three of them. i have a bust of jesus looking so so forlorn in my room. impulse buy. anyway. love him deeply obsessed with him turned me insane i think
Reynard the Fox
I feel like a mega weirdo for finding this medieval archetypal creature so endearing, especially considering the atrocities he commits in the stories he’s a part of. There’s just something so fun about a really old story about a bunch of morally grey animals engaging in shenanigans meant to satirize and mirror our society.

A news anchor 💀
when was the last time you cried?
Last week - I got all comfy to sign on to Zoom therapy (lol) and when my cat jumped up on me he knocked over my coffee and two full containers of water entirely on my laptop, phone, everything on the table, and soaking the rug. It was truly the last straw for me that day
do you have kids?
No way
do you use sarcasm a lot?
Yes, but unfortunately I'm pretty bad at making my sarcasm clear so many times there are miscommunications lol
what's the first thing you notice about people?
I think just their general vibe? Idk how to explain this further, but I feel like I can tell really quickly if I'm gonna like being around someone
what's your eye color?
Blue/green/gray depending on the light
scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings, I have immense fear just existing on a daily basis, soooo I'm not really into putting myself in that situation for fun

what are your hobbies?
I feel like I have so many hobbies that I dabble in but don't spend a lot of time on individually - Again, I love to cook and bake, music has pretty much become my entire personality in the form of concert-going, singing/playing, listening, consuming music media, deep-dive researching about artists, etc., I like to read, I like to paint and draw occasionally, I love art and film photography, which I got really into for a sec and have temporarily abandoned until I buy myself a new camera, aaaaand I love to be outside! I love to go on long walks and swim and rollerblade and canoe, and just lay in the damn grass!!

how tall are you?
5'5.5"

Choir and theatre (unfortunately)
dream job?
Mmmm if we're being honest, I would love to never work again, but I've always wanted to do something creative, and rn I'm trying to figure out where the sweet spot for me is. I have a very vague idea of what that looks like and it probably doesn't even exist but I think I'd like to be some sort of artist director where I can collaborate and incorporate many different mediums
I feel like I'm always the last person to do these and everyone has already posted theirs sooo if you've already been tagged and I missed it, I'm sorry!! Low low lowwww pressure tags: @jmkho @demolitionndann @mountain-in-springtime @jakeykiszkas @jaakey @anthemofgvf @theaudacitytowrite @the-starcatcher @theweightofstardust @sacredjake @fallonfatality @takenbythemadness @ageofwagner @alwaysonthemend @joshsindigostreak

My thoughts on... All-New Wolverine 2015 (#7-12) "Civil War II" & All-New Wolverine Annual 2015 (#1)
As I'm continuing this series I'm having an absolute blast with it! It definitely one of the funniest comic series I've read so far as I have never laughed out loud so much before with a comic. Gabby continues to be absolutely hilarious all while Laura is absolutely thriving!
I love that they keep drawing parallels between Logan's and Laura's relationship and Laura's and Gabby's relationship. These parallels once again made me very emotional becayse you just see how Laura realizes that she is to Gabby what Logan was to her and how she wants to do a better job. I love that they further explore the complicated dynamic between Laura and Logan. The whole alternate timeline logan was also really interesting to see. Especially how Laura experiences the whole situation and stuff. I also really liked the whole angle with predicting future crimes and where Laura stands on acting upon that information. She very much knows that only you make your own future and I love how they show that here. I also really like all the subtle callbacks to her past (comic runs) in this arc. It's really neat to see and I'm glad they're keeping all that stuff in mind. It's so fun to see a mentally healthy Laura who has grown from her past and learned a lot from it use that knowledge to be better. I do kind of wish that they would explore her a bit deeper in this run because I definitely imagine she still has some stuff that haunts her at night and that there are some interesting angles you can explore with her taking on the Wolverine mantle. But perhaps in one of the future arcs that might happen. I can't complain though because i've been having a blast with this run!
Gabby is starting to become a very interesting character, especially with the whole alternate timeline from the old man Logan. I really wonder what the deal was in that timeline and what happened for things to go so wrong. But I love that Laura doesn't give in and believes in Gabby. Because she knows how important that is. Gabby showing her powers and Laura being happy for her was such a sweet moment. They're such an amazing duo!
The team up issue with Squirel Girl was so fun and hilarious. It was such a cool adventure. Jonathan The Wolverine is such an unserious idea but i love it so much. Like a wolverine having a wolverine as pet is so funny i love it! As part of the read through of this run I revisited the All-New Wolverine Annual that I had previously read during my Spider-Gwen read through. It was really fun to revisit it as I had forgotten how funny that issue was. It was super cool coming back to it as the first time I read it, it was basically my introduction to Laura Kinney and what made me want to read her comics. And now she has become my 2nd favorite Marvel character next to Spider-Gwen so it's incredibly cool to see my two favorites team up like that! This was a really solid 2nd arc with a nice balance of endearing, funny and serious moments. I really think this run balances all the different tones it wants to hit quite nicely which makes for a very enjoyable reading experience. I'm absolutely loving this run! I do wish they would go deeper in exploring Laura and Gabby as characters but perhaps that's something for a future arc!

10, 13, 24. Give it to me ROUGH
Well, you asked for rough. Buckle up because you knew what you were doing feeding me these specific ones MB.
10. worst part of fanon
There are a lot of ways I could answer this one... I think I'm going to (take the meta route) say that my least favorite part of fanon is the tendency of shippers to bend characters out of their canonical forms in order to make them "better fit" the ship so, over time the fanon character simply becomes "the character" in the mind of the fan.
Everyone does this to some degree, it's inescapable. Especially because, at least in this fandom, many of the characters people are interested in are the ones who have not yet been main characters (Lucien, Mor, Elain, Eris, Azriel, Gwyn, etc.) Naturally, you have to read into them, flesh out their characters, and explore their potential in order to write about them. And, if you're writing a specific ship, of course you're going to draw parallels between the characters being shipped.
Where it becomes the "worst part" is when people get so stuck in their fanon interpretation of the character that it blatantly disregards the canon... but they don't seem to care that it does? This part always confuses me. Maybe it's because I'm relatively new to fandom spaces but, in my opinion, I feel like fanon characterizations can reach a point where I no longer recognize that "version" of the character. At that point, to me, they aren't the character anymore but someone's OC. I've spoken about this in regard to some of the fandom's heteronormativity when it comes to writing Eris as a part of the Azris ship (read more about this here.)
13. worst blorboficiation
I'll be honest, I had to look up the definition of this one and the internet seems conflicted on what it means. For the purpose of this question, I'm going to interpret "blorboficiation" as when a fandom takes a character and adores them to the point where they often overlook the character's potentially unsavory sides.
Clearly the answer is Azriel. I love him (I'm saying this as a very pro Azriel person) but canonically he is a mess, not even a hot mess, just a mess. He's done a lot of shitty things, he's emotionally immature, and has what I suspect to be a boatload of unhealthy coping mechanisms. That's just to name a few.
Azriel is allowed to be dark and messy. That's the part of his blorboficiation that bothers me. People often smooth over a lot of his faults (I'm not exempting myself, I've done it in the past but I try not to do it now) in order for him just to be the tall, dark and handsome alphahole. Like... if you're going to love Azriel then love all of him and do it honestly. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a morally gray, rather fucked up character. Just please don't try to pretend like he isn't.
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
Really anything that calls people out on their prejudices. I feel like that's where things tend to get super toxic. Folks need to learn that criticism isn't a personal attack and, if they do take it as an attack, then that's just confirming that they are prejudiced because they feel a need to defend themselves. It's not fun to admit when we're wrong, or when something we've done/said has caused harm. But listening to criticism, acknowledging the harm and apologizing for it, and working to dismantle that prejudice is a far better use of someone's time than getting into a fight on the internet that usually only ends up hurting more people in the process 🤷‍♀️

**contains spoilers from Yumi's Cells and Little Women(2019)
In both Yumi's Cells and Little Women (2019) the endings don't reveal if the protagonist finally gets the guy or not but she gets her passion fulfilled. Thank god for movies/shows like this that showcase the girl still being happy regardless of her finding a man. Yes, it's open-ended. We don't know who Jo March falls for or if she ever falls for anyone. We don't know if Yumi and the new employee who'll be working with her on her next book are compatible. We don't see that on screen. It's left to the audience. We don't know what's going to happen in both their romantic lives but we know that their passion is being fulfilled and their writing careers have kickstarted.
I haven't watched many k dramas. I liked Yumi's Cells comic so I was drawn to the show. I loved it. I love the comedy of the cells, I love the CGI, and the voice acting(which played a huge part in giving life to the cells).
Yumi as a character, I'm sure if you've watched the show is pretty relatable to most of us. I get excited about food just like her and get really conscious while stuffing my face when I'm wearing white. I worry about my skin, my self-esteem is not that great, and I often seek external validation. The cheapskate cell, the hunger cell, and even the detective cell felt a lot like me.
After I finished both seasons I was surprised at the ending. I still didn't finish reading the comics by then and I was rooting for Yumi and Woong all along. I have to say even after they didn't end up together in the show I wasn't disappointed. Life happens. Relationships happen. We embrace some, we outgrow some. Yumi still had a place for Woong in her heart as she thought he was a good person and I'm glad they didn't burn bridges. I'm okay even if they don't get back together and decide to be good friends. The show, in the beginning, was all about Yumi's romantic life and I love how it transitioned to the journey of her becoming the writer she always wanted to. I breathed a sigh of relief because the show didn't make Yumi one-dimensional.
Even though there are things I disliked about the show I realize I haven't watched many k dramas so I'm not sure about the pulse of Korean cinema but I thoroughly enjoyed both seasons. Also, does anyone else hate yu babi?
After I finished the show and mused about it for hours it suddenly struck me that Jo from Little Women (2019) too gets the book and not the guy. And I like this. Most cinema that I've watched has always portrayed women as being a man's love interest while the whole story revolves around the man so any story that doesn't do that draws my attention.
Jo from Little Women by Greta Gerwig has a different ending to Jo from the other versions of the movie. In the 2019 version of the movie, Jo insists on her protagonist not getting married even though the publisher says stories like these don't "sell". The woman has to either get married or die in the end for the book to make an impact and sell the publisher says in the movie. Fortunately this "mantra" may not be as evident today as it was some years ago but unfortunately, we still see a lot of writers and filmmakers take this path to conclude their stories. At the end of the movie, we see Jo March's protagonist get the guy like the publisher wanted and Jo gets the book. Yes! Jo gets the book.
I love to draw parallels in media I have watched and I loved that two of my favorite on-screen characters had this unique ending about them. I love Jo and Yumi and I love that women in cinema are being written in a way that doesn't make us women in front of the screen feel like having a partner is the apex of romantic life or even just life. I hope we get to write more fleshed our female characters. I hope we get to see women that represent us.
I hope we get to see more stories where women get their "book".

Can I get a quick intro to gore and horror?
I’m so sorry it took me so long to respond to this one! I kind of wanted to have another short story out before I answered anymore asks, but oh well! ^^ (also for some reason I mostly used examples of movies and games in this answer?? For that I am so sorry, it is 3:00 am and my brain is short circuiting. I’ll probably update it later with more book recs!)
To kind of prepare you for everything I’m about to say; no, I cannot give a short intro to horror. I can try with gore, but I doubt it will be very short (I apologize in advance! ^^;). I say this all to you also with the warning that I am not like, A Horror Professional, I’m just someone who has spent an unreasonable amount of time silently observing and absorbing my favorite type of media.
So, anyways; gore by itself is, yes, technically probably a genre, but it’s also a great plot device in media that may not actually be considered gore. Pulling just from movies here as an example- the Final Destination series is creatively gorey, and are definitely considered gore films in their own right; however, I wouldn’t consider The VVitch gore. While getting pretty nasty with the gore & graphic imagery in the last third, it serves to kind of draw to themes in the story & to symbolize. Midsommar is a great example of both- a very gorey film in retrospect, BUT the deaths and bizzare body horror shown all served either some sort of symbolism, a parallel that could be drawn, or did it’s plot job of showing us how messed up and unsettling the cult was. I would say these 3 examples are kind of okay-ish benchmarks to how gore can be divided.
For gore (this goes for horror too, really!) I find it incredibly helpful to divide media I interact with not by its genre, but more by the themes within the story & effect it had on me, as a reader. Using ‘Fridge horror’ to describe a couple of books instead of looking at each one individually and being like, “ok, this is a sci-fi body horror, this is a splatterpunk, this is a supernatural slasher-” etc, really helps me out, because I’m someone who tends to read the same type of horror, rather than the same genre.
All the categories I use personally I’ll list below, but I warn you these are very specific to me because I read a lot of the same thing, & I like a good character before anything else. I think that shapes a lot of the media I interact with. I don’t know if everyone uses all of these, or if no one’s used these and I’m just a funky little loser, but this is my personal system;
Fridge Horror; A story that becomes terrifying after you’ve read it and let it sink in. For gore specifically, I find it’s less actual gore, and more “wow, you just compared a house to a human and now that thought will never leave my mind lol”, OR, gore used as weird obscure symbolism for the actual thing going on at hand- and once you’ve figured out what that thing is, it puts the piece of media into a whole new perspective. (ANATOMY by kittyhorrorshow is a wonderful game, and prime example of both!)
Obsessive Horror; Stories & Media that uses gore & body horror as a way to describe a character’s mental state (and usually obsession with a specific concept/idea) OR a set of characters' mental decline but obsession with each other. I would say the movie The Perfection (2019) does this well!
Sad/Vulnerable Horror; kind of self explanatory, but very similar to Obsessive Horror- the only usual distinction between the two is that instead of obsession being the overarching thing to tie it all together, it’s usually grief, or a character struggling with some sort of obstacle that has forced them to stop- a character being unable to move on from something and it getting gradually worse. Midsommar is a great movie for this!
Philosophical Horror; in a gore sense, I do find it funny that this one tends to be less like. Human oriented and usually has some sort of monster involved, but it’s usually something along the lines of like “what makes us human?” (insert violent gorey scene here) lol. Very entertaining. I’m gonna come back and edit this post to add specific media examples for this one, because none come to mind right now except for fanfic, but it’s also… 3AM please be patient with me haha ^^;
I don’t have any recs for ppl just dipping their toes in, because everyone is different and I don’t know what preferences work for everyone- but I would just say to engage with the media that’s kinda popular and seems to interest you in the horror genre- and work from there. It really helps to make accounts on sites like goodreads & letterboxed just to kind of stalk what other people are watching and reading! On goodreads I joined a couple of groups, and while I’m not the best at having a one on one convo with someone just yet, it really helps me to look through the forums and conversations available and to be like “Oh, shit, this person also likes B.R. Yeager? And is recommending another book in relation to Negative Space? I’ve gotta check it out!” You don’t even have to engage with people if you don’t want to in these kinds of settings- you can silently stalk forums discussing media they liked and why- its glorious and a good way to quickly add to your collection & get more into the swing of things without feeling bad because you’re never gonna read the book you got yourself 2 years ago & now sits untouched on your shelf lol.
(Definitely not a self call out.)
I don’t really know how to end this one, so I’ll end it with my favorite kind from the list I previously mentioned; Vulnerable Horror/Gore. (SPOILERS FOR KATHE KOJA'S THE NEGLECTED GARDEN INCOMING).
I personally love a good piece of media that has character specific body horror- things that frighten us, because, holy shit that sounds awful to experience- but also have an innate and personal terror to the character it’s happening to;
Kathe Koja’s short story, The Neglected Garden, is a perfect example of this. Throughout the entire story, we never learn the narrator’s name- only the name of his girlfriend, Anne, and the impact she makes on him after he attempts to break up with her- which she responds to by crucifying herself to his fence. You understand the narrator’s reaction to Anne’s crucifixion- and as it continues and gets worse- how she ended up there in the first place. Obvious parallels are drawn to their relationship before she went to such extreme measures; both too cruel and stubborn to be together- but too desperate and obsessed with each other to ever break up. The narrator is arguably, not at all sympathetic- but you still understand the horror of what he witnesses. Koja goes into graphic detail when describing Anne’s initial crucifixion, and then, the slow growing of grass and flowers as she stays still and unmoving. Her body slowly morphing into a disgusting infected carcass that’s somehow still alive is described with alarming depth. But it serves a purpose to the story, and the characters- or rather, it serves as a vehicle for understanding their relationship.
So… yeah! Lol, I’m sorry, this probably wasn’t as helpful or as informative as you were hoping, but I hope it’s still enough to kind of get a general idea of where to start. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on specifically splatterpunk (general subgenre of gore) books, I highly recommend godless.com, as they have a lot of short story collections & stand alone pieces that you can buy for sometimes as little as 50 cents! I do warn you though, sometimes there’s a bit of odd fetish content on there? Lol so… have fun with that.
Sorry for the ramble, thank you for the ask! Bye lol

Marahil Sining: Rebirth of the Moth
Tumblr media
“Last year, on the 9th of September, in the middle of the afternoon, when I saw a little moth lingering in my window. Its color was as yellow as a rusted gold and painted over in a black-striped coat. I thought she would be gone later in the evening, but three days passed and she's still there. I went near the moth hoping it would fly away but she did not move.
She died the same day I first saw her.”
The creator of Marahil Sining, Marah Jezreel Vicuña-Paglinawan, has been existing and roaming within the cosmos for 21 years and now in her third year as a Multimedia Arts student in Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna.
The symbol of Marahil Sining, is the same moth that Marah has written in the short story above. You might ask, what is the significance of that moth in her art identity? In this blogpost, I will share with you a glimpse of how Marahil Sining and the moth came to be.
Marahil Sining was established in 2020. There have been a lot of changes done with the name in which it reflected the experimental stages of Marah’s artworks. When she first made her art page, it was named Zree on Mars, to reference her favorite song Life on Mars by David Bowie and the nickname Mars that her friends used to call her. Then it became Jezreel, her audience back then was just her close friends and families, and she thought the first name was not gaining their attention enough because it does not have her biological name on it. For the third time, she changed it again and it was then called Marahil, Marah said that it was midnight, and something just drove her to change her art handle and Marahil was the first thing that came to mind. It was the quickest decision she's made among those two names that she mentioned so she had doubts that she will regret it later, but morning came, and it finally struck Marah what it meant to her and as an artist. For the fourth time, she completed the name, and it is now called Marahil Sining.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marahil is the most used word that Marah wrote into her poems. “Maybe there is something about it that kept me holding onto it, something about its uncertainty, the lingering hope attached to it, the curiosity that it fed to, and how its nature is ever-changing. It also draws a parallel to the death of the moth which comically reflects the constant rebirth and unearthing my art persona. Just like the word Marahil, maybe I grew attached to the dead moth for such a reason as knowing that she may get to have a new life again after her tragic yet calm death in my window,” said Marah.
As she set forth for Marahil Sining’s beginning, opportunities came and she took it. She thought having the experience of selling her art merchandise in her school once was enough, but then she got to be invited by a much more inspiring and an advocate community of the arts to be their merchant. She stated: “It has been both an honor and a privilege to be there and to be surrounded by other talented artists and their extraordinary works.”
At first, Marah’s sole purpose of her art page was just to be an art archive of her personal and school-related art outputs, a dump, a mere space to look back to. She believed that her abilities were not enough for she was just beginning to finally focus on this path. But now, she’s becoming more hopeful and excited about what she will and can do as she looks forward to Marahil Sining’s future.

Hi, I’n just now realizing that you are the owner of my favorite IDW blogs whenever I search for them in the tab.
As for Issue 50, I have two ideas. Either A; Sonic defeats Surge, who proceeds to have a breakdown before Belle tries to help reason with her. Or, B, worst case scenario: Surge beats Sonic but Belle convinces her to become good.
I trust Ian enough to go the former rather than the latter, but the threat still looms over my head. Regardless of which, I’m really hoping Belle and Metal finally get to interact. It’s something the fanbase has wanted to see, myself included.
Thank you so much! It's always super encouraging to hear that people enjoy listening to what I have to say. It makes me happy knowing that people value my input and that I'm not just screaming into the void.
As for your predictions, yeah I can't see Sonic losing against Surge in a standard fight. BUT! I could potentially see him losing if something unfair were to occur. Like of she cheats and gets a cheap shot, or circumstances themselves gave Surge the upper hand, rather than just them fighting 1 on 1.
If/when she does lose, (because even if she wins this fight she will eventually lose in the grand scheme of things) I am expecting her to have some sort of breakdown. Having Belle there to try to reason with her would also be kinda cool. She's had this whole arc about trying to find a new purpose when her whole life got turned upside down, and it would be cool to see them draw a parallel between that and Surge's situation.
I don't expect a redemption though. Ian has stated many times how he wishes Sonic had a bigger rogues gallery. Most villains are either one offs (like Black Doom and Mephiles) or get redeemed (like Chaos and Shadow). I doubt the team would create these awesome new antagonists just to turn around and add them to the already robust cast of heroes, and personally I think it's better that way. I'd rather have a sympathetic villain that you feel bad for, rather than add yet another good guy to the cast, but that's just me. It's still fun to think about though.
Also YES! Belle and Metal Sonic interaction! I am certain that will be a thing. Evan has acknowledged that there are parallels between the two that she's glad people have picked up on, so they're definitely going to address it at some point, and this is shaping up to be the perfect opportunity to do so. Metal is one of my favorites because there's just so many interesting things you could do with him and I can't wait to see what's in store!

The Rebirth of the Moth
Last year, on the 9th of September, in the middle of the afternoon, when I saw a little moth lingering in my window. Its color was as yellow as a rusted gold and painted over in a black-striped coat. I thought she would be gone later in the evening, but three days passed she's still there. I went near the moth hoping it would fly away but she did not move.
She died the same day I first saw her.

Hello! I’m Marah Jezreel Vicuña-Paglinawan, the creator of Marahil Sining. I have been existing and roaming within the cosmos for 21 years and now, I am on my third year as a Multimedia Arts student in Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna.
The moth in the picture, now the logo of Marahil Sining, is the same moth that I've told in the short story above. You might ask, what is the significance of that moth in my art identity? In this blogpost, I will share you a glimpse of how Marahil Sining and the moth came to be.

Marahil Sining was established in year 2020. There have been a lot of changes done with the name in which it reflected the experimental stages in my artworks, as seen in those photos above. When I first made the art page, it was named Zree on Mars, to reference my favorite song Life on Mars by David Bowie and the nickname Mars that my friends used to call me. Then it became Jezreel, my audience back then was just my close friends and families, and I thought the first name was not gaining their attention enough because it does not have my name on it, so I changed it into Jezreel. For the third time, I changed it again and it was then called Marahil, it was midnight, and something just drove me to change my art handle and Marahil was the first thing that comes up to mind. It was the quickest decision I’ve made among those two names that I’ve mentioned so I had doubts that I will regret it later, but morning came, and it finally struck to me what it meant to me and as an artist. For the fourth time, hopefully the last, I completed the name, and it is now called Marahil Sining.
Marahil is the most used word that I wrote into my poems. Maybe there is something about it that kept me holding unto it, something about its uncertainty, the lingering hope attached to it, the curiosity that it fed to, and how its nature is ever-changing. It also draws a parallel to the death of the moth which comically reflects the constant rebirth and unearthing my art persona. Just like the word Marahil, maybe I grew attached to the dead moth for such reason as knowing that she may get to have new life again after her tragic yet calm death in my window.

As I set forth for Marahil Sining's beginning, opportunities came and I took it. I thought having the experience of selling your art merchandise in your own school once was enough, but then I got to be invited by a much more inspiring and an advocate community of the arts to be their merchant. It has been both an honor and a priviledge to be there and to be surrounded by other talented artists and their extraordinary works.
At first, the sole purpose of this art page was just to be an art archive of my personal and school related art outputs, a dump, a mere space to look back to. I was not confident of my abilities because I was just beginning to finally focus on this path. But now, I’m becoming more hopeful and excited in what I will and can do as I look forward for Marahil Sining’s future.
Thank you for reading this blog. If you're here since the very beginning, to those elementary and highschool days of just being creative on mere assignments and projects, thank you for being there, cheering me on. Thank you for believing in me, I hope to have your support 'till the very end ♡
