i've seen a few posts defending ted's choice to return to kansas and henry, and I really get where they're coming from

if ted lasso was a real person living in the real world, I would say 100% he should go back to live near his son and help raise him. that's the reasonable and responsible thing to do. I don't get behind the sentiment that you should always sacrifice every part of yourself for your children and always be perfect for them (bc that's impossible and self destructive and worse for them in the long run), but there a strong middle ground between "taking time for me" and "moving to the other side of the world"

but ted lasso is not a real person. he is a fictional man in a fictional tv show, where things like character development and narrative themes should matter. I'm sure that ted would be fine in kansas, because he makes friends everywhere he goes and he probably has lots of family and friends there. but the AUDIENCE doesn't know kansas. the only people ted knows there from our pov are his son (who he feels the need to protect from his own feelings), his ex wife (who expressly asked him to leave), and his ex's new boyfriend who was once his therapist (who probably was partially responsible for ending ted's marriage). the people we have learned to love over the course of the show, all of the relationships that ted's developed that we've invested our time and care in, those are all in england. sending ted back to kansas is unsatisfying because all the relationships that he's been growing over the past three seasons just... end. cut off. and even more than that, it's narratively unsatisfying bc it just puts him right back where he started, raising his son without any real support system, now without even beard to be there for him. there were ways to have ted keep henry in his life more without taking him away from all the people who helped make him less afraid of being a father. how does it make any sense that he would be able to be a good parent without the people who helped him change? it just felt like such a dark ending to me, this guy who was begging for someone to love him and see him the entire show to end up alone without a single friend by his side.

hmmmmm ketil anime backstory bad

#it adds nothing to the story and interferes with his character progression imo #the point of ketil is that nothing that bad has happened to him until now. he's done everything right and it's always worked for him #and when it goes wrong he completely breaks down and makes all the worst decisions for everyone around him #also it ruins the conversation between sverkel and arnheid :( which is so good and understated in the manga #all he says to her is 'it's your decision' and 'i wish i could help.' manga!sverkel genuinely feels for arnheid. she's a real person to him #but anime!sverkel bringing up ketil's sad backstory when arnheid is going through all that just feels super insensitive #obviously ketil has nothing to do with arnheid losing her family and he didn't enslave her himself #which imo is part of why arnheid has been able to accept being with him! she knows she could have ended up with someone much worse #but like. he owns her. she has to devote her life to him whether she wants to or not.#it feels super gross for another character (and the story in general) to direct her/our sympathy onto ketil in that moment #her son was murdered so that she would be more desirable to men like him! this scene should not be about ketil's pain!#(also the line about why hjalti was killed was conspicuously absent from the anime which takes some of the teeth out of the whole storyline #fandom musings #vinland saga

me every time I finish an episode of house md season 3

#house md #i feel like s1 and s2 balanced drama and comedy perfectly #and obviously s3 also has a lot of funny moments #but every episode leaves me contemplating the meaning of life #i'm still not over s3e12 #and i just watched the one where foreman kills the girl with an infection #like idk what it is with this season but even the episodes that are on the light side #like the one with the romani patient for example the stakes weren't super high but at the end when he refuses to take the internship #and says to foreman that they're all great doctors but they're alone...i almost cried #it's the way every medical case in s3 really has an impact on the characters in some way #and even the tritter storyline #if you compare it to vogler in s1 vogler was about criticism of the healthcare system #sure wilson standing up for house was cute but tritter was about the way house treats people #it gave depth to his relationship with wilson with cuddy and even with the team #anyway i'm getting carried away just know that i'm crying every night

So, the Batman in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League may or may not have killed Robin

#suicide squad: kill the justice league spoilers #which got me wondering if there's every been a fic where Bruce in a fit of possession or brainwashing did kill one of his kids??#and actually handled it well (aka it didn't go straight to bruce bashing)?? i need to read if so cause this topic is juicy #i think it's heavily implied to be tim drake robin so uh yeah #there was also mention of Oracle Nightwing and Jason #(not red hood; bruce just states jason) but I don't think they appear nor is it implied if they got murked either #and if this is post-arkhamverse.....major yikes #another L for arkhamverse Tim #bald and dead smh #poor guy #i probably won't get the game until it's on sale (i don't care for the storyline that much) BUT the fic ideas?????#like after the fact what would bruce do?? would he just keep going bc he doesn't know how to handle it other than being batman???#would he actually quit??#(and this is if he doesn't kill himself or let someone else kill him at the end of this)#also the reactions from the other bats? how would they react to who bruce killed? and then who exactly do you pick to be killed?#because who matters i think #my gut always wants to lean towards jason-and-bruce-angst but i think bruce accidentally killing dami or tim would be....#well it would be catastrophic i think #killing jason (post-red hood or as robin) would also be awful but a RH!jason falls in line with abuse he's already getting in canon #bruce killing barbara or dick also has a lot of angsty fallout potential #hmmmmm i will be contemplating this i think for a good while #i have ideas

I actually thought the Dune spin-off series, now called Dune: Prophecy, was still in the pre-production stage because last I heard it was recasting and retooling, but apparently its all been shot and is due later this year. If it proves to be a success I expect this is how they'll continue the franchise, with prequel series rather than continue to adapt the books.

A third Dune movie is very likely at this stage. Part Two has been enough of a hit already to justify it, although it will probably take some time due to Villeneuve's desire to do other things first and avoid Dune burnout. A fourth film adapting Children of Dune is possible, even if Villeneuve has no intention of doing it himself, but only if the studio is really desperate for another Dune movie. That would be it, though. Cannot ever see them doing God Emperor or the last two books.

#its actually crazy that there was even more content i missed that impacted the story this much #like this rlly illustrated how even tho my character and astari0n have both become better people astari0n is still so behind in that #(we know why ofc. hes still acting like a feral cat trying to self preservere with teeth and nail and all until the very end; the ritual)#my character had his most obvious 'shifting point' at the transition from act 2 to act 3 #like he fully realized that this is now truly bigger than himself. he has left marks on the lands and he has to go all the way #he has made true friends. one of his best friends is the kindest most compassionate person in the world #and very importantly he loves astari0n and THAT is the reason he now feels this actual compassion towards the other spawn #hes so personally invested in this issue now #and he can say that 'the world can be a wonderful place if you find your home in it astari0n' bc its something he has just recently had #a personal revelation abt #and astari0n deflects it and describes my character as someone who now 'spends their life sorting out other peoples problems'#and it rlly brings it to focus that he just cannot meet him where hes at anymore #just great conflict that feels actually meaningful and perfectly fits into the roleplay storyline ive made for my character #and omg the line 'im doing this for you too you know. to make sure were both safe. forever' from astari0n is just AAAAAAHDJJDJD. CRAZY #bc we know how toxic he becomes towards you if he completes the ritual!!!!!!#HHHHH this character!!!!! hes just MWAH. perfection #i cant wait until i get to doing the szarr palace again bc this added conflict will make the conclusion of this quest even more satisfying #anyway TOTAL tonal shift time. in start of the cutscene astari0n is standing next to the bed my character was sleeping in #so i can now have the hc that some nights they sleep in the same bed <3 #(WELL. you know. my character sleeps while he meditates)

Roleswap is pretty fun but I kinda want them to still have their base characteristics and backgrounds. Like Dankovsky the Changeling is still a relatively normal doctor from the Capital searching for a way to end death. Clara the Haruspex still came from Earth and has an evil twin sister running around. Something like that. Don't know how it would work though.

In episode 10 of Constantine, John says to Zed the Achilles tendon that nullifies magic is Chas' favorite trick. So he is into magic cancelling ropes... something to chew on. Happens around 5min into the episode.

sorry to have taken so long to answer this (though this is NOT the oldest chastantine related message i'm responding to tonight 😬) but also it's partly bc it's driving me insane that this wasn't a bigger deal when the episode first aired, or since then, bc obviously i went to look it up and:

(from a transcript site that doesn't uh identify the speakers, which is unhelpful, but that's john & zed).

i have to admit i haven't re-watched quid pro quo in literal years despite it i guess being one of the most explicitly (lol) chastantine-y episode, between the kiss (i still remember the showrunners being like 'ooooh just wait for episode 10, john's actually going to KISS a MAN' and then it was. chas and it was a cheek kiss which tbh i do still love but also the camera refused to actually let anyone perceive it fully, SO) and the arthurian curse that's forever binding chas to john (or at least till the 47 lives run out) and the hug and the pride flag hanging directly above john, zed, and chas as john looks smugly on at chas threatening someone w a shotgun.

but from what i recall there's a lot of talk in that episode about how well john knows chas (or how well john thinks he knows chas, which is actually what gets him in trouble/punched in the face, ultimately). so that exchange is a nice little hint of that early on in the episode, of john knowing that chas has a favorite (magic related) thing john does. and bc it's chas OF COURSE it's a magic-negating magic related thing (like, bondage potential aside, my first thought was -- was that the first magic-related thing john did for/around chas, to help protect him from whatever queenie was doing to him?) anyways i'm emotional about it, it's fine.

tho obviously the bondage implications ARE NOT LOST ON ME but i think i'd have to do a refresh by watching the episode itself to get a firm grasp on how that would -- potentially work.

nightwing secret files | nightwing 139

so in nightwing secret files and origins, there's a hurt/comfort storyline called "lost pages: teen titans." dick's robin and he's grieving for his parents and having a hard time, and he's gone off on his own, and wally comes and finds him. and then in nightwing 139, there's a hurt/comfort story where tim's robin, and he's grieving and he's gotten kidnapped and tempted into trying to resurrect his loved ones, and dick comes and finds him.

both of these comics are wonderful & i would now like to share my favorite parallels.

anyway i love these stories separately but i also love all the little ways they echo each other <333

#i really love post-crisis nightwing comics you guys #something something paying it forward #history doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme #dick grayson #tim drake #dick & tim #this is a little hard to articulate and obviously the storylines are very different but there's still something compelling to me here #both about dick and tim's similarities and about the role of friendship in their lives #one aspect of dick and tim's brotherhood that i like a lot is that in some ways in his relationship with tim #dick is often the kind of friend that his titans friends have been to him - and i find those parallels really moving #often he's got an instinct for the right thing to say or do because tim's dealing with things he's been through before #and he also ends up kinda low-key revisiting some of his own issues because tim has a bunch of the same ones #because their issues are so similar dick's attitude toward tim is sometimes kind of a proxy for his attitude toward his younger self #like in graduation day when he's being hard on tim in pretty much the exact ways he's hard on himself #and donna's pushing him to be more understanding but of course that's the precise thing that dick's bad at doing #because he doesn't know how to cut himself any slack ever about anything #which makes it doubly touching to me when he gets past that #because it's not just about extending grace to tim but also to himself #which is really hard because it's really hard for dick to forgive himself for anything #so it's the collision of his uncompromising attitude toward himself and his love for tim #and the love always wins in the end *cries*#parallels

Hello my dear! The Ice Queen/Tyrant King AU is so good and i think (?) the longest series so far. Correct me if I'm wrong.

But i love how Gil called Thena "his wife" in front of his business partners. Alone the fact that he got a ring tattoo with the pattern of Thenas lace shawl! I thought about the Tyrant King buying an engagement ring for his Ice Queen and Kingo randomly sees him doing so, asking him with a sheepish grin for whom the ring is.

You can decide if he ends up buying a ring or not. But we all know, one day, he'll propose to her.

Kingo barely blinked as Gil startled, pressing a hand to his chest and then giving him the infamous 'Tyrant King' glare. But it did nothing--Kingo worked for the Ice Queen herself, after all.

"What are you doing here?" Gil drawled with a long, tired sounding sigh.

"I'm on break," Kingo shrugged, smiling blithely at Gil, who was trying to ever so subtly shift away from the display window he'd been looking into. "Boss is in a meeting, but I'm sure she'd be glad to see you for lunch after."

"Great, see ya-"

"Lookin' at rings?" Kingo asked loudly. So much so that Gil whirled around back to him and slapped his leather glove over his mouth.

Kingo knew he had no reason to fear the secretly very sweet man, but he could definitely see why enemies of the Tyrant King could piss their pants at the thought of him. Kingo wiggled his mouth free, "that's quite a grip you have, my man."

"Don't you ever shut up?" Gil growled at him, although the ruddiness in his cheeks really detracted from his scare factor.

"Come on, what's wrong with it?" Kingo shrugged, even peeking around Gil into the window for himself.

"Well," Gil rolled his eyes, folding his massive arms around himself with a frustrated huff. "It's silly, isn't?--looking at rings for the literal queen of diamonds?"

"I guess, when you put it like that."

Gil was already turning around again to leave.

"Wait, wait, wait," Kingo reached out, pulling Gilgamesh back to him and even throwing an arm around his neck. "Come on, buddy! I think it's great you're looking at rings!"

Gil glanced sideways into the display case and back at Kingo, "she probably already owns these, doesn't she?"

"Not literally," Kingo shrugged. "But we did get the product and then sell it to the mega corporation that owns this smaller shop."

"So yes," Gil rolled his eyes, his frustration only mounting. "See?!--this is hopeless, and I don't know why I mentioned anything to you! If you say a word of this to Thena-!"

"Relax, Gil."

The Tyrant King eyed the assistant carefully, but Kingo really was a great actor. Whatever he usually had on was dropped in a second, and evidently, this was the real Kingo he was seeing. It made him wonder if he had ever come face to face with the real Kingo before at all.

"I think it'd make Thena really happy if you proposed, ring or not," Kingo shrugged, his smile gentle and surprisingly warm.

Gil blushed, recalling the conversation - as brief as it was - with her about this very subject. "She seems...open to the idea."

Kingo laughed, although it didn't feel like he was being laughed at (this time). "You know how the Ice Queen is; it's so hard to get a straightforward answer out of her for some things. But trust me, her answer will be yes, if that's what you're worried about."

It was and it wasn't; Gil shifted anxiously again. "I mean, I call her my wife already. And she...she's stopped stopping me from it, at least."

"And she got a tattoo to match yours?" Kingo raised an eyebrow at him, once again finding Gilgamesh guilty as charged. "She thinks she was really sly about it, but I'm her second hand--I'm supposed to know where she is at all times! And that includes booking herself an appointment at someone's favourite shop in Koreatown."

Gil couldn't help the big, stupid grin on his face. Every time he thought about it he started smiling like a dope.

"Exactly! You're basically already married," Kingo shrugged, "it's just tying the actual knot, that's left."

Gil sighed, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "It's not just that. Even if I weren't nervous to actually ask her-"

"Which you are."

"Thanks," Gil snarled at him, but Kingo still had absolutely zero fear of him. Gil huffed. "It's...I don't know--is this really something she wants?"

"What do you mean?"

Gil frowned down at his shoes. "I mean we don't exactly live super peaceful lives, Kingo. Is it right for me to try and ask this of her when we go through what we do? In just this past year, she got poisoned and I got shot!"

"Yeah," Kingo shrugged as if it were nothing (and not significant traumas in both their lives). "But she wouldn't have you any other way."

"What?"

"Look Gil," Kingo patted his shoulder again, still in an overly friendly way for Gil's taste. "The Ice Queen knows what she's doing. She comes from a long line of people in the biz, right? So do you! She's always known the empire she would be stepping into when she took over. And that certainly didn't stop you two from goin' at it like rabbits every-"

"Kingo!"

"My point is," he persisted, gesticulating as he spoke. "Thena knows who she is, and who you are, and no one is more prepared to face the consequences of this life than she is. But she still chose to love you, didn't she?"

"After she got out of the poison ward, she was always telling you, right?--how dangerous it was for you two to actually try and 'date' like normal people?"

"Yes," Gil sighed. She had brought it up so consistently that he had really wondered if it was her way of rejecting him. And yet every time, she would still agree to whatever date idea he had, only after warning him that it was dangerous for them to gallivant around like civilians.

"But she couldn't say no, could she?" Kingo gave Gil a wink and elbowed him gently. "Because she wants to be with you, man. And that's saying a lot, because Thena doesn't like being around anyone."

Gil looked at Kingo--arguably one of Thena's closest friends, even past just being business partners. He frowned, "...she'll really say yes?"

"Fuck yes, my guy!"

How they became friends - a quiet, frosty Ice Queen and a loud and effervescent sharpshooter - was beyond Gil.

"Thena loves you, Gil. I mean, she real-deal loves you," Kingo beamed, and his smile was so charming that Gil could almost manage to forget that if Thena were to find out about this conversation, they would both be begging for their lives from her. "Like you say, you've been shot and she's been poisoned this year alone. Life's too short!--ask her to marry you!"

Gil's heart hammered in his chest. Ask Thena to marry him; he wanted to, more than anything.

"If you have to have a wedding in Korea as well, can I still be her best man?"

"What?"

Kingo had on his sly little grin again. "You must know by now that she's been brushing up on her Korean."

"Yeah," Gil blinked, even recalling bringing it up but not receiving any real answer from her. "I assumed it was for business."

Kingo wagged his finger at him (smug little bastard). "It's so she can meet your family."

"What?" Gil repeated again, his heart going absolutely nuts inside his chest.

"Well, just in case," Kingo shrugged. "She didn't wanna tell anyone, but I know it's so she can talk to them for herself if she ever meets them. And she knows that, traditionally speaking, you'll probably have to have two weddings, right?"

That was giving an awful lot of consideration to the family that was still furious with Gil over the Heiress debacle. They said he was making them look bad--when he was the one who had gotten shot over it!

"She did that...for me?"

Kingo turned away from Gil's eagerness, holding up a hand in resolute denial, "you didn't hear it from me. You already knew that she was--you could have guessed why on your own without any help from me."

Yeah, but he didn't.

"Anyway," Kingo gave him another wink and a thumbs up. "As far as I'm concerned, you've got all the green lights you need. I promise I won't say a word, but I recommend asking within the year."

Right, that definitely wasn't bad for his nerves or anything.

"And Gil?" Kingo nudged him before straightening his coat. "Engagements rings don't necessarily have to be diamond, y'know. She has enough of those already, don't you think?"

bold theory but im like 80% sure that the spiderman 2 story was a little lackluster because the dlc is going to be doing a lot more of the heavy lifting this time around

#i mean theyve definitely got dlc planned already… they had no idea how well the first games dlc would sell but this time around they do #i mean. okay heres my thought process here #1.#we know that norman is going to become the green goblin soon. the ‘’g-serum’’ he talked about was for harrys cure after the symbiote failed #but norman is probably the one who becomes the green goblin. how? idk yet maybe he tests it on himself first or something #i think thats going to be one of the storylines in the dlc #2. in this game they introduced ally teamups for the crimes in the overworld #two for the spidermen respectively and one for wraith. but during the period where harry is agent venom he has an ally teamup as well #his own animations and voice lines and everything. and thats a very short part of the game #so im actually convinced that harry will wake up from his coma in one of the waves of dlc and fight with the symbiote again #black cat had special finisher animations with miles too so maybe shes an ally teamup too? 👀#maybe wishful thinking but tbh i could see it happening considering the black cat threads from this game havent been entirely wrapped up yet #and also theres a severe lack of ally teamups LOL so im p sure harry at the very least is coming back #maybe to help fight norman somehow for when he turns into the goblin ?#idk. anyways #3. we still have the rest of kravens family to worry about and since they were tracking felecia maybe thats where she comes back ?#4. obviously theres going to be a dlc about the flame/cletus cassidy + carnage.#the flame even has a cult in this adaptation and their gatherings would make great bases which this game DESPERATELY needs more of #also going back to the ally teamup thing yuri still has one post game #and theyre definitely continuing her story given how open ended that questline was #im like. pretty confident in this even though i know its kind of iffy #if they save harry + the goblin for spiderman 3 i wouldnt be surprised but i think it has a solid chance of being addressed in the dlc #tldr there were WAY more lose ends than the first game
