One year, three months and four days. That’s how long you had been dating Laura for. Not a single soul knew, no teammates, no family members and definitely no fans.

Stolen glances and secret kisses in dark corners were the only way your teammates would’ve figured out about your secret relationship, but the both of you were damn secretive.

You were both very professional and kept your personal lives away from any sorts of media, the two of you had been friends long before you started dating. Which meant many were oblivious to anything you did. Sure the two of you were a lot closer than before but not even Sydney or Lina had picked up on any odd behaviour from the pair of you.

Saturday night, also known as date night, was the best part of your weekend. Whether it was a simple takeout meal shared on your sofa while watching a movie or a fancy dinner in the city of Frankfurt.

You had planned to go out for dinner and try a new restaurant but after an intense match against Wolfsburg you opted to stay home. You ordered your favourite take in meals and sat in comfortable silence as you enjoyed the moment of peace, the tv played softly in the background as Laura picked up the empty plates and took them to the kitchen.

You sort of whispered a small “danke” (thank you) to your girlfriend as she picked up your plate, scared you would ruin the tranquillity of the room.

As she sat back down she settled into your side as you made the tv volume just a touch louder. Pressing a soft kiss to her head once you could feel her breathing even out as she slowly fluttered her eyes shut, “ich liebe dich.” (I love you) Was the last thing she said before finally letting sleep take over her senses.

You smiled down at the blonde besides you, how you gained the courage to ask her out you’ll never know. Some days you feel as if your heart would explode with how much you love her, her soft smile and slightly wavy hair, her laugh and the way she looks at you as if you had placed the moon and stars in the sky.

“Aufwachen! Es ist unser Jubiläum!“ (wake up, it’s our anniversary!) You start to stir as the blonde peepers soft kisses across your face as you hear her excited voice. “Ich bin wach, ich bin wach” (I’m awake, I’m awake) you mumble, keeping your eyes firmly shut.

After you finally opened your eyes you instantly tugged the blonde closer to you, you melted into her warm embrace as you laid your head on her chest.

You think you stayed like that for about ten minutes before finally deciding to get up. “Alles gute zum Jubiläum für uns!” (happy anniversary to us!) You say pressing a kiss to her lips as you sit up.

Your anniversary is filled with laughter and remembrance of good memories.

Sometimes you wish you could express your love for Laura with the entire world, but on days like this as the two of you walk around the farmers market not a single person wondering as to whether or not the two of you were an item you remember

exploring japan with daniel would go like:

you spent the better part of the last few weeks trying to learn enough japanese for you and daniel to survive your one week stint in the foreign country.

daniel on the other hand, the man didn't even pack until the night before.

well neither did you, but still you were a different level of prepared than daniel. that was the point.

but anyways, you stayed in a hotel in tokyo, a short subway ride from shibuya and all the other fun touristy sites that daniel insisted you visit.

disneyland: - how could you not go to disney? you'd been to their other three locations (california, florida, and paris), why not go to a fourth? - you both went on every ride you didn't recognize and bought so much food. - you even bought you and daniel matching disney ears. - and yes, you both stayed until the park closed.

sensoji temple: - the second stop. though super touristy, you both immediately fell in love with the multitude of cherry blossoms on the temple grounds. - daniel snagged a couple overpriced souvenirs, and even let the locals convince you to wash your hands at a fountain. it's good luck, they said. - "well, i'm gonna need all the luck i can get. c'mon babe" were daniel's famous last words before forcing you to rinse your hands in the frigid water.

tsukiji fish market: - daniel joseph ricciardo is the only man to convince you that the biggest fish market in the world is a must see tourist attraction. and you love the man so damn much OF COURSE you endured an hour of walking past different vendors and the smell of fresh and very raw sea animals. - the trip was well worth it, because then you both sat at a restaurant on the property and enjoyed some of the best sushi you had ever tasted. - "you enjoyed that, huh love?" "yeah yeah yeah, now lets go before the smell really gets to me."

shibuya: - what would be a vacation without taking a trip to the shopping center of tokyo? - daniel (bless his heart), followed you to all of seven stores you stepped into and carried six out of ten shopping bags you had acquired. he didn't understand why you shopped so much, even asking "where is this all gonna go? you only have two luggages." - which then encouraged you to buy an extra luggage. - it was bustling with people (as always) and by the end of your time there, your feet ached and daniel carried you on his back all the way to the subway, luggage filled with your new belongings in tow.

tokyo tower: - the last night of your trip, you gave into daniel's pleading and agreed to go to the tower. - you were so exhausted from the jam packed week, you wanted to skip out on the last thing on the itinerary. - but daniel's pout is enough to pull you out of bed and get ready to go. he's wearing a fun printed button up and black jeans, and you decide to go with a simple satin dress and sneakers. - you slept for most of the ride there, only waking when you were five minutes from the tower. - you weren't the biggest fan of heights, but you had to admit, the view was stunning. you even indulged daniel's request going the next floor up, enjoying the view from the highest point in the structure. - too enamored by the view (and taking photos for your own jpg account) you don't notice drop down to one knee, opened velvet box in his hand as he waits for you to turn around. - you only turn when you hear him clear his throat. you nearly drop your phone at the sight. your throat tightens, and tears begin to well up in his and your eyes. - "i love you more than words could ever say. all i know is that i want the white picket fence and the big backyard for kids. i want the mom car and the dogs. god i want you with it all. i want you until we're old and gray, until i'm pushing you in a wheelchair and you're complaining that i'm going too damn slow. i want you beyond that, into the next life and the ones after that. will you marry me?" - you fall to your knees, arms wrapped around him as you blubber out a "yes. god, yes!" - and so daniel slips the pretty diamond on your left ring finger. and there you were, on top of the world as the future mrs. ricciardo.

I'll be visiting Torino soon and I saw you post about it before so I wanted to ask, do you have some recommendations that wouldn't be found on a tourist guide? Grazie 💖

first of all, i'm so so happy you're visiting this beautiful city! i hope you'll love it at least half as much as i do (which is a lot. like. a lot)

as for my recommendations, i guess my biggest advice would be to just walk around and let the streets themselves guide you because a) the city centre (as in the very very centre and the neighbourhoods surrounding it) is not that big, so you could set some reference points, go for a long walk, and both see the main attractions and get to have a look at the city herself, b) because it's so worth it, torino really is so beautiful that even walking her streets is an experience by itself, c) torino is probably one of the easiest cities in the world to navigate because it was literally built like this:

in any case, here's a list of my favourite places/spots that oh my god you have to see/things you really need to do*

monte dei cappuccini (+ the church + the friars' back terrace in case they decide to open it to the public); the hill area is also really nice so i warmly suggest you get to the monte on foot

this is a classic, but the gran madre church - piazza vittorio - via po - piazza castello route is a must (and you can do it right after the monte dei cappuccini, to reach the city centre)

castello and parco del valentino (and especially the giardino roccioso) is beautiful (also psss the borgo medievale is fake lol)

close to the valentino, you can take a walk around the san salvario neighbourhood (my beloved) which feels a little bit bohemien and quite vibrant and lively. lots of beautiful churches, lots of interesting architectural styles, Thee synagogue (which you cannot visit, but it's breathtaking even from the outside)

close to piazza castello, the galleria subalpina is BEAUTIFUL and once you've seen it, instead of going back to piazza castello you can go straight to piazza carlo alberto, then piazza carignano and then reach via roma. you know. 'cause they're all beautiful and classy areas of the city centre

another galleria that i really recommend is the galleria san federico, which can take you from via roma to the embarrassingly beautiful piazza san carlo

the quadrilatero romano area might be a bit touristy (bc it's close to piazza castello) but it's so peculiar and i just love taking walks there. feels a bit like paris, but maybe let's not tell the locals. lol

the porta palazzo market is definitely An Experience; bonus points on saturdays and on the 2nd sunday of each month you will find the (gran) balon flea markets. definitely give them a go!

ah of course the mole, but that's like. Top 1 things you should see in torino so;

but! quite close to the mole, in corso san maurizio, go take a look at the "fetta di polenta". it's a building that literally looks like a slice of something

museums, duh

the lungo po is a great location for a lazy walk at sunset :)

for god's sake don't go looking for a pizza and a cappuccino in via po at 4pm but try to find a place that looks genuinely piedmontese because the local cuisine is amazing. you can also find quite a number of "piole" (they're called like that) that are supposed to be quite cheap but very good and "local"

bonus (totally out of context): piazza carlina (I’m so local now that I forgot its real name lol) and giardini reali superiori (if you’re lucky you might find the newly restored extra area open to the public, fingers crossed!)

eat a lot of gianduia, drink good wine and definitely try san simone (thee local amaro) [of course if you're into any of that, ça va sans dire]

just walk. fill your eyes, mind and heart with beauty <3

Hi. It’s me, Fanfic Anon #2 back again. I know this has been a faster set of updates from me this week because I had time last weekend to write a lot. I’m starting to come to the end of that stockpile and I have a very stressful 2-3 weeks coming up at work, so I promise I am not going anywhere, just know I may only be popping up every few days or so.

Kind Anon had suggested a fic about the first time she came to visit him in Paris, which made me think of the last time she came to “visit,” if you will (i.e. when they finally were able to move in together). Hope you all like this one. As always your comments, criticism, and prompts are appreciated. Seriously. It means the world to me to read all of your kind words everyone. ❤️

She took a deep breath as the train pulled into the station. It wasn’t that she was nervous, although she’d be lying if she didn’t admit to feeling a little anxious about today and about the future, but the reason her stomach tied in knots was that she was excited. Today was the first day of the rest of her life, and she was so impatient for it to begin.

She struggled to remove her heavy bag from the luggage compartment of the train when it had finally come to a stop, and was grateful when a kind young man came over to help.

“Thank you,” she acknowledged the stranger’s kindness with a smile when the two of them had finally managed to get it out of the holding area.

“No problem. Do you need me to carry it down for you? Maybe I can make sure you get to your destination okay? Wouldn’t want a lovely lady like you to hurt yourself with something like this,” the man tried to flirt, shamelessly.

“I’m good, thank you. Knowing my partner, he’s made his way on to the platform and will be looking for me, probably fight me to take it down himself, but thank you though,” she rejected kindly, but firmly, every inch of her heart conquered by a brunette with bright blue eyes, a wide, charming toothy smile, strong, muscular arms, and a heart of gold.

“Oh, sorry. I shouldn’t have assumed -“

“It’s okay. We’re moving in together today. That’s why this is so heavy, anything I haven’t slowly brought with me on my visits from the past couple of months that I’m bringing with me is in here.”

“Well, I wish you two all the best.”

“Thank you. Better luck next time,” she winked before hopping down off the train, pulling the bag behind her.

She only had to look around briefly to spot him, the sun filtering in through the ceiling, shining on him like a spotlight, holding a homemade sign that read “Welcome home” and bouquet of flowers he clearly bought in a market on his way over, a grin she was sure was large enough to see from space.

In that moment she didn’t care about the fact they were in a busy train station, all the people around them, propriety and decorum. No one knew them here, in this City of Light, big enough that they were truly anonymous here, free to be themselves, openly unabashedly, without reproach, judgement, whispers, rumors. So she took off running towards him, the heavy bag doing little to damper her spirits or her stride even as it was trailing along behind her. Slowing down only a little when she approached him, so as not to hurt him too badly on impact, she proceed to jump into his arms, legs wrapping firmly around his hips as she felt his arms quickly settle under her bottom to hold her.

“Hi, chérie,” he greeted, before leaning in to steal a quick peck before he carefully helped settle her back down on her feet.

Reaching out to grab her bag with one hand and his hand with her other, she could hardly contain herself when she commanded him to, “take me home.”

“Yes, madame,” he teased with a wink as he helped free her of the suitcase like the gentleman he is as they walked towards the nearest metro stop. “My goodness, chérie, what’s in here?”

She laughed loudly at that, “anything that isn’t already here or in Touquet.” She leaned in to naughtily whisper “careful, I have more than a few delicates in there.”

He let out a small moan at the mental picture, “I’m going to hold that thought until we get home.”

“You better. I’m expecting us to break the place in this weekend.”

“Brigitte,” he whined, his control starting to slip.

“I’ll behave. I promise,” she said in such a way he didn’t believe her for one moment.

Finally they had made it back to his their apartment, and now that they were standing in front of the door, he was starting to feel self-conscious. It’s not as if she didn’t know what the place looked like, hadn’t been intimately involved in picking it out because it was always going to be one day her place too, but he knew standing there, with a small apartment he could only afford to buy with a loan from one of his father figures, it was nothing compared to the house she was leaving in Amiens, the house she owned in Touquet, all these places that offer her more space, more prestige, just more everything, which was what a woman as remarkable as she is deserves.

“What is it?” She asked, picking up on his hesitation as he had yet to put the key in the lock.

“I just feel like this apartment isn’t worthy of you.”

“What do you mean?” she asked sincerely, non-judgementally, trying to figure out where this was coming from.

“You deserve the world, Brigitte. The finest silks, and wine, and caviar, and clothes, and homes and I’m just a broke civil servant who hasn’t made anything of himself -“

“Yet. You hadn’t done anything yet because you’re young, Emmanuel. Just out of University and Grad School. I know you. I know your brain and your heart, your drive and your passion, your stubbornness and your charm. You are going to be someone great one day. Trust me, everyone in this country is one day going to know your name. And it is going to be my honor and my privilege to stand beside you and help you on that journey.

“In terms of this beautiful apartment -“

“It’s not -“

“It is beautiful, Emmanuel. It’s beautiful because it’s our home. Our first home together. Do you know how many years I’ve laid awake at night thinking about this moment, how many lunch breaks I should have been grading papers and have been instead daydreaming about this moment, how many mornings I woke in my bed in Amiens sad to realize I was only dreaming about this moment and was not, in fact, waking up in bed next to you?”

“I‘ve thought about it too. Every single day.”

“I don’t care what I deserve. In fact, if I were to listen to some people, I don’t even deserve this place. I care about what I want.

“I want to wake up next to you every morning and go to sleep with you beside me every night. I want to trade stories about our day at the dinner table after I cook and before you clean the dishes. I want us to argue over whose turn it is to take the trash out, and what to watch on TV on a Monday night, and where we’re going to go for date night.

“I want you. All of you.”

He nodded, beyond moved by the sheer depth of feeling he had once again just looking and listening to this remarkable woman who somehow fell in love with him. He slipped the key into the door and swung it open.

Carefully, he reached down to pick her up in his arms again, to carry her over the threshold, delighting in the melodic laugh she left trailing behind her at his antics.

“Go bring the bag inside so no one takes it, and then come meet me in our bedroom,” she leaned in to press a quick kiss to his lips as she slipped out of his grasp, stepping confidently, into her happy ever after.

What are some of your favorite cities you’ve been to? Edinburgh, Florence, Melbourne, Singapore, Paris.

Would you allow your children to date prior to 16? I have no desire to have children, but I dated prior to 16 and I don’t see an issue with it in general as long as it’s age-appropriate. Did you ever go through a phase where you thought guys in bands were ‘hot?’ Of course. What’s something about adult life you were never warned of or prepared for? How expensive everything is lol. I know we’re going through a period of inflation right now which doesn’t help, but oh my GOD. I just spend £25 on cat litter and nearly £40 on a 5kg of bloody biscuits. And yes, I know pet ownership is my choice but it never used to be this expensive. It’s a good job I love them, lol. Did your parents teach you proper table manners when you were growing up? Yeah, my parents were pretty hot on table manners - we went out for meals and stuff a lot when I was younger and they wouldn’t have tolerated bad behaviour.

What was the last thing you baked? Does re-heating a chocolate fudge cake count as baking? lol. Do you live more than 5 hours away from the nearest international border? No, the border to Scotland is about...two hours from here, I think.

Does your town have a farmer’s market? No, the nearest one is probably Ulverston which is about half an hour away, but the drive is a real PITA so we practically never go. What’s the westernmost point you’ve been to? I mean, I live right on the west coast of my country - I’m about two minutes drive from the coast and I’m there everyday, lol. What was the last restaurant you made a reservation at? I honestly don’t remember - most places round here don’t require a booking. When did you last feel lonely? I don’t remember. Can you easily tell when others are masking their true emotions? With some people, sure. How often do you wash your car? Never, lol. I live rurally and drive along back roads and farm tracks on a near daily basis. It got a wash last time it went in for a service and less than 24h later you couldn’t tell. When did you last lend money to a friend? I don’t lend people money. Which app on your phone do you tend to get the most notifications from? Facebook or Reddit. Do you own a Dutch oven? PARIS SUZUKI is the first born in the suzuki family. being the eldest girl has always had a much deeper and heavier meaning to her life. as the first born, she realized from a young age that she wasn’t the same as the family that surrounded her. naturally she’s always had a gift for seeing the truth of things, being able to observe a situation, family dynamic, environment, etc. and knowing exactly what needs to be brought to light for improvement. she was shown grim truths about her toxic family dynamics as she matured over the years. older adults called her an empath, she’d line all of her stuffed animals up, convinced they were alive and had feelings, talked to imaginary friends, and knew when bad things were about to happen, she even started having prophetic dreams as her link to the spiritual world strengthened with age. sometimes, she’d just KNOW things, and didn’t know why. with a strict cultural upbringing, these feelings and ‘knowings’ were highly discouraged, so much so that her parents nearly scared her of herself, of the feelings she was experiencing that were so confusing and making others seem afraid of her. she eventually learned to block it out, ignore it, only talk about it to trusted peers which were few, even the kids in school sensed something special about her, in return she was sort of a timid, isolated child who wanted nothing more than the opposite. her younger brothers were always popular and well liked, which made her feel more like something was wrong with her.

when she was 15, p’s parents went through a really rough patch, there were rumors that got back to paris that her dad was having an affair, and when she asked her mom about the rumors she was told to stay out of adult business. she witnessed a lot of her dad doing whatever he wanted and watching her mom tolerate it and look the other way due to the fact he was the sole bread winner,  as she aged into her teenage years, paris became more rebellious. she was still the same kind, genuine, lover girl she’d always been but at home she was cold and distant, she’d rack up after school activities and clubs to keep herself away from home, she started making more friends and coming out of her shell, suddenly people payed her more attention and that’s when she met her first girl crush. when she was 16 she fell in love with her high school best friend, the girl who lived across the street, she had just moved to the neighborhood and sat next to paris on the bus her first morning. this was the moment paris’s repressed “hey, maybe i’m into girls.” feelings bubbled back into the forefront of her mind. she identifies as pansexual in current time.

paris was way too shy and way too unsure of herself to ever tell her best friend how she really felt about her, though the two were inseparable and never left each others side, if you saw paris you saw her and vice versa. it didn’t take long for her father to catch on and he was nothing short of unhappy. paris was sent to a private school across town just to keep the two apart, it was a real life romeo and Juliette situation going on, and it got so bad that paris’s father went as far as to move to a new city, just to keep her daughter away from the girl she loved. eventually, paris’s first love couldn’t take the rejection from paris’s parents any longer, she just couldn’t handle the drama, the intensity of their forbiden love, it was when they were 17 that it all ended and the two slowly drifted apart and stopped speaking all together. this was her first heartbreak, and fueled her anger towards her parents, especially her father.

paris turned her villain era up a notch, she did a huge 180 on her aesthetics, slashed fishnets, berry red vamp lipstick, and a septum piercing were the first major turn arounds in her appearance, she started to love being her most authentic self regardless of how her parents reacted, she dug deep into her psyche and healed some of the darkest parts of her that were still hurt and traumatized, her inner child. suddenly, it felt good to piss her parents off, she stopped craving the validation and acceptance and realized everything she could ever need was already within herself, and if her parents or anyone didn’t like who she was, then it was their loss and not her responsibility to change their minds.

Jottings from Miz Jeannie  by Jeannie Barnwell    Remembering a Dear Mother                I KNEW  that I was her favorite daughter. On the other hand, Jerri and Nancy KNEW that THEY were her favorite, too! Mom and I promised each other that we would find a way to signal each other, should one of us "graduate"  to the next realm of the big adventure.  After Mom's passing,  it always grieved me to see happy families snuggled in for a group photo, knowing that for OUR family those days were over.  Then I  noticed that someone always worked the camera and missed being in the photo.  "AH HA!," Says I to Me, I will always ask if I may take the picture.  So all over the world, I engineered family photos to be cherished. AND I came to notice, in the mini second of the camera flash (whether in Peking  or Paris, or Pickens) there would appear a happy old lady waving frantically from the back of the group.   And there is no explanation for this, but for that brief enlightened second... and still today THERE'S MY MAMA!    Miz Jeannie loves All of Y'All!!!

ASHTON RECALLS:  by Ashton Hester                                   WOULD-BE SALEM BURGLAR COMES UP EMPTY - (The following story was in the January 6, 1954 Keowee Courier). . .A busy, would-be burglar--apparently with his heart set on cash instead of merchandise--broke into two Salem business firms and attempted unsuccessfully to enter a third during the late hours of Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. . .However, it would appear that the only thing the intruder gained from his efforts was a gashed hand or arm when he broke a hole in the plate glass window at Clyde Talley's Grocery Store, as traces of blood were found on the window and also on the cash register. . .No cash was available in that store or in Whitmire's Dress Shop, the other store which was broken into, and the owners of both stores said no merchandise was stolen as far as they could determine.. . .There was also evidence that entry was attempted at Hinkle's Cafe. . .Whoever the burglar might have been, indications are he was an orderly-minded character. After breaking the glass at Clyde Talley's store, he took it and stood it nearly against the side of the building. Also, several rows of candy boxes were located at the spot where the break was made, and instead of simply pushing them off onto the floor to enter, he had taken the time to place them to one side in neat stacks
