It's based in italy because i also am and i do Not know nearly enough about american nor british hg to bullshit it effectively - Ranboo goes to a classical, clingy to Normal Scientific (tubbo despises latin but he suffers through it because he thinks its needed) (ranboo has to fight tooth and nail every single day for his memory problem accomodations to be respected). Fun fact to send you off: some of the things they wear in this illustration are accomodation to make their bodies feel closer to their old ones! ranboo has platforms - even though hes already fuckall tall - and fake ears absolutley covered in piercings. Tubbo wearns weighted fake horns and compression glloves - on the hand that he lost with his execution Last Time. Tommy weats a weighted belt to resemble his raccoon tail and a backpack to mimic the weight of his wings - he had gotten used to missing the weight after they got cut in exile, but he figures that he can do whatever the fuck he wants in a safe world and he likes the pressure on his shoulders.

Hi! I read your replies about ethnicity and I hadn't realized it was defined so broadly. In your readings, would all religious groups be considered ethnicities? Example, I'm ex-Catholic but still consider myself "culturally Catholic" since I was brought up in that environment.

Well, no. Not just "Catholic" alone.

I mean, put it this way: in North America, Catholics specifically syncretized catholicism into existing ethnic identities (ex: mexican-catholic is different from Metis Catholic, and the ethnic identities began to incorporate unique folk catholicism that is specific to these ethnic groups, not universally Catholic. As in, it's all Catholic, but not "catholic.")

OR groups developed ethnic enclaves wherein catholicism was part of their shared identity. (Ex: Italian or Polish neighborhoods in the US tended to emphasize their identity and connections to other Italians and Poles on their basis of their being Catholic. They tended to exclude/other Jews with the same national origins (which is what happened in the "old country" as well, so...this didn't suddenly change).

basically people didn't stop marginalizing people they used to marginalize back home. So a historical neighborhood of Polish Jews was/is often viewed as a Jewish neighborhood, an Ashkenazi Jewish neighborhood, etc, but if you just look for a "polish neighborhood" then the majority of the people there will be polish Catholics and catholicism will play a larger role in the shared polish identity, even though not all Poles are Catholic.

Like if I look up polish neighborhoods and find Chicago's massive polish downtown neighborhood on Wikipedia, it says this:

"this district was not exclusively Polish," and "Italians, Ukrainians, and Jews each possessed their own enclaves within the area."

Which might sound fine but also is revealing of the fact that say, the majority of poles (who were/are a majority Catholic!) didn't see Polish Jews as identical to other Poles. Further, it's very vague — there are Polish, Ukrainian, and Italian Jews. But the ethnic identity of being Polish, Ukrainian, or Italian immigrants in the US wasn't solely defined by country of origin.

So. Could I say that "Polish Catholic" is an ethnic group? I think it's context dependent in some ways: if someone American tells me their family is descended from Italian, or Polish, or Irish immigrants I can usually assume they mean their ancestors were catholic++

and they usually don't identify with being a polish or italian national — instead, they're identifying with the history of x nationals immigrating and developing ethnic enclaves/assimilating or not/and the culture they brought with them as an ethnic group/identity. An Italian American usually identifies as proudly Italian in the sense of a solidarity based on an ethnic identity within the US context, theyre usually not like, identifying with being an Italian national.

But in Italy, surrounded by Italians, the ethnic grouping of "Italian" is pretty unspecific. Are they Latin? Sicilian? Sardinian? (There are roughly 30 languages native to Italy, so it's not like we can go off of "they speak Italian"!)

++ in my singular individual experience: most Jews don't phrase it like this without first establishing some baseline understanding of aforementioned ancestors being jews. by this I mean when I go to the Jewish museum and folks start talking about where their family left in order to come to the US, they might say "my ancestors fled Russia." Or "they came from Ukraine and Lithuania." Because in context it's clear already this is in relation to the Jewish experience. But if you were talking with a group of people who may not all be other Jews or who don't necessarily know you're Jewish, I find people usually don't just say: "My family's polish," they usually instead say "oh my grandparents are Polish Jews," or "my great-grandparents were Jews who left/fled Poland."

...anyways anon I suspect your ex-catholicness has some kind of regional identity beyond that which is a part of your ethnic identity (shared culture, including religion!) but no, being Catholic is not the ethnic identity itself. Especially since catholicism as a religion has a few millennia of espousing universalism beyond ethnic identity and in the earliest church outright rejecting the notion of ethnic belonging to the Jewish people. To the point where a lot of the Greek biblical uses of "ethnos" specifically meant "people who are not-catholic —meaning the heathens and Jews."

So the religion itself is pretty anti-being an ethnic identity but I would say can be a fundamentally big point of community commonality in existing ethnic groups.

I'm using you to confess my dubious feelings for the Percy Jackson series bc you also expressed like some weird feelings about it, and I kind of thought the series was untouchable bc of how much everyone I see fawns over it, and I have GOT to get this off my chest to someone who might get what I'm saying. “gingerbread” comes from scoobys brown fur n daphnes ginger hair while also to me emanating this warm comforting homeliness where i was especially thinking of all the instances where daph knows exactly what to do to comfort scoob waugh

“citrus” comes from ofc velma being orange + shaggy being green (like a lime!!!) while having that food connection for shaggy. citrus fruits always remind me of summer, which in turn reminds me of scooby doo as a franchise bc its always the time they do rerun marathons on tv….

im gonna rant a lil about genshin's "diversity" in the playable characters cause i realized the problem goes beyond there being very few characters with darker skin (though i honestly only consider xinyan and kaeya to ACTUALLY have dark skin -- xinyan's skin tone is actually very similar to mine)

all of the characters with darker skin (except kaeya) aren't really meta and their kits are either dysfunctional or someone does the job better. xinyan has the split scaling, cyno is considered underwhelming (tho again, i'm pretty sure quickbloom is his best team), candace's kit is a bit weird but still functional, but now dehya is a mess.

and tbh this feels more like a genshin problem, which is... weird. in honkai, i think i told you that there is one playable character who is black (though her skin tone is more like cyno/candace's. xinyan, who is not canonically black, has darker skin than the canon black girl 💀) she is a physical support who specializes in breaking shields. though she can be replaced, she is the best at what she does and, if you need a shield breaker, carole's most likely your gal.

it feels so weird how genshin is based off of real-life, yet it can't even represent all the characters somewhat equally in the meta/gameplay. this makes me worried for natlan tbh :/ i don't have much hope for that nation in terms of playable characters. it's kind of a stupid move on hoyo's part to mess up most of sumeru, when they decided which region it would be based on.

no cuz literally. ever since the sumeru leaks the question on my mind has always been 'are they TRYING to sabotage their OWN characters????' but i guess racism and colourism will make people act like idiots 👍🏽 even weirder considering the entire sumeru plot was about the oppression and discrimination of the desert folk who largely are shown to have darker skin than their forest counterparts. its like theres no communication between the character designers and story writers which... you know. makes sense actually.

kit functionality is another thing though. genshin has more underwhelming characters than xinyan and dehya and candace, and the concept of meta characters has always been iffy. cyno is absolutely good on his own and kaeya has story relevancy and hes also a good unit, people just like to complain. it does feel to me like, as the character roster grows, the less the devs know what to do with the playable ones lol

but absolutely keep ur expectations for natlan VERY low LMAO. they might take inspiration from latin american countries but ultimately theyre a chinese game dev studio who have to cater to chinese and white audiences first and foremost, considering those are always the biggest sources of revenue for everything that isnt contained within national borders. and unfortunately the husbandos and waifus who sell well are always the fair skinned characters lol

so i believe cohdopia/allebahst & babahl could be somewhere in northern italy. quercus alba and colias palaeno have the scientific names of a tree and a butterfly respectively, therefore, they are both latin (though i have no fucking idea what colias palaeno actually means in latin, or if it actually is fully latin because i cant find shit about its naming, but quercus alba still stands. the only thing i can figure out about colias palaeno is that “colias” is either latin or greek) and therefore, i think they could come from somewhere that speaks a romance language. I think italy is probably the best bet because it’s a lot closer to latin. Im pretty sure (i could be wrong) that Palaeno gives you either a coupon or a postcard about mountains in babahl at one point, and since somewhere in the heart of italy seems a little unlikely to me (a country that is liable to split in half is something that is easily gobbled up by other nations, that threat is exacerbated to a million if that nation is surrounded by one singular other nation), im saying somewhere around either the alps or the maritime alps. Palaeno is also pretty tan, which makes the most sense (assuming he’s largely ethnically babahlese, which he could very easily not be) if he’s from southern europe. And Manny is short for Emmanuel, which is a pretty christian name, though I don’t know how common it is just for that reason in italy despite its heavy catholicism. Tourism is also a pretty prominent industry in italy, so there’s parallels with babahl there.

Also i dont think the location of any of the species used as names matters because cohdopia is stated to be european, but white oaks (quercus alba’s namesake) are not native to europe, theyre native to north america. The names of the nations are also pretty distinctly not latin, but also, that could be easily chalked up to english bastardizations (that happens a lot—you will probably be surprised at hungary and finland’s real names, and we probably all know the weird ass deal with germany).

pretty shaky premises? yeah. but to be quite honest with you there are far shakier and stupider cases in ace attorney that some people still love so its okay. if you have a better idea or more evidence feel free to add, but honestly, there is so little evidence for where cohdopia could be that i dont think theres really all that much more you could say. Honestly i think you could probably find leads for a different spot in europe using the symbols on the flags or even the architecture of the embassy or using some real world analogue to whitcrystal oil, but im not really aching to look into that right now.

Romania may also be a contender lol.

aka girlfailure mc. shes so silly. i kinda made her to be an MC for yami (@pastel-rights’s nonfandom world) but now shes the mc of her own world!

her (and her sisters’) main inspiration was the three greek fates, with their names being latin for beginning (ini), present (hodie) and end (finis). their colour scheme is also based on the CMY colour scheme. I chose pink for ini… genuinely i have no idea why LOL

HARLEY

So you may wonder who the actual FUCK mr grass here is. Well. He’s actually supposed to be some kinda alternate version of Harlequinn (Yami’s OC, the pink doll in the pic, it’s a very long story) who’s a game designer who designed Harlequinn and a bunch of other characters with other game designers. And then i think for crack reasons we made Harley the opposite of Harle. Anarchy.

BLACK SWAN

Disclaimer. I made her before Black Swan in HSR was real /lh. She’s inspired by the Black Swan theory, where an unexpected phenomenon happens and is inappropriately explained after it happens with the benefit of hindsight. So I thought a fortune teller is pretty fitting. Also I only thought of it cos I have a BSD oc with an ability called The Black Swan.

THE THESPIANS

Shiloh. Uh. he’s my first idv oc! legit. i wanted to make a funny morally gray oc and he was the result (fun fact, he was gonna be nonbinary but i was too scared to write it that way). I also genuinely thought Shiloh could be a guy’s name. so. fuck!

Liam was the result of a me making a character in Shiloh’s story playable. It was a funny idea. Originally Liam and Shiloh disliked each other more too, but Liam actually. doesn’t know Shiloh killed him </3. Liam was made before TW was a thing or popular, and his similarity to Crowley is hilarious to me.

I forgot if Elaine/Eva or Quinn was first, but theyre also the result of making characters in the story actual characters. Quinn was made because I wanted to try to make a decoder-kiter since I saw them as very different oops.

Hugo was. genuinely. made to complete the roster of 4 survivors and 1 hunter. oops.

Bonus: Johnny was. uhm. looking back this is pretty insensitive. but he’s based off a real arsonist. Emersyn and the rest aren’t tho. Mostly the inspo is “fire investigator who’s actually an arsonist and is a pyromaniac”. To be clear i think the real guy is a POS. I forgot why or how he ended up with the rest of the Casino gang tho.

Program: Con Los Anos Que Me Quedan, Conga

Even from the opening choreography, you can SO plainly see the difference in style and comfortability with this rhythm that Laurence and Nik showcase. Definitely among this field so far, they are the strongest Latin dancers. I know I said the JLO program was the strongest Latin RD out of IAM this year, but I meant in terms of concept. THIS program though.. Is SO gosh darn GOOD on Laurence and Nik... they are SO on top of the music, and so many of their elements are just SPOT ON!!!

In my personal opinion, they should go in front of C/B based on what they actually performed, but according to the TES box at the end of the program, they will proabably only end up with ~83 due to the over-harshness on the step level and overly-generous goe to C/B.

SO THE PLOT:

Sara Romano has been wading through her college days half-asleep, with this winter break by far being the most dead she’s felt yet. When she vomits on Chrysanthemum Locklear at a New Year’s party, however, her life quickly turns from lethargic to chaotic. Thrown into a new world of intrusive theatre geeks, loud music, and freedom, sheltered Sara struggles to understand who she is after a life of abuse, and how she could possibly love someone without self-destructing.

so basically: - brown girl traumatized, only gets by with her nerdy nb bestie - panic attack at a nye party. throws up on hot girl with hippie name. vomit victim to lovers speedrun. - turns out, both brown girls traumatized and also queer and maybe kinda sorta codependent.  - girl goes from depressed solitude to having a social life and a sense of self, but its an adjustment - can two bitches truly going thru it make it work between them?? is it worse to be alone or to drown together?? we will see.

So yea I really just wanted to know if it’s anything of interest. I’m actually enjoying writing it way more than Pluvio (the fanfic it’s built on) tbh, because Sara’s voice and personality are forming as I edit and add new content, and I adore her and Chrys both, and not to be gay on main but FUCK writing a wlw meet cute (or meet ugly?) is fleshing out my sapphic dreams. T_T not to mention, without the convention of pre-existing characters to stick to, I get to have a LOT more fun with dialogue and descriptions. And explore queer characters who get the culture (the culture being terrible puns, AAVE, and abstract gender jokes).
