"Where are you t-taking me!?" Charlie asked, leaning back on the leather couch.
"To your home."
"But you don't know that...right?" Charlie's words came out as a question. Chase remained silent, professionally avoiding all traffic cameras.
"You...know my address?" Charlie gasped as the bot drove into a worn-out looking firehouse, stripped away from life and contrasting with the firehouse in Chase's original realm.
"I do, in fact." the mech smoothly replied and extinguished his engines, but made no moves of unlocking the door.
"W-What do you want from me?" Charlie suddenly felt claustrophobic and pried open the handle, but to no response.
"Chief-I mean-Charlie, why are you stealing money?"
"Why does that bothers-oh wait, you're with the police, stupid question." Charlie groaned and sunk back into the seat. "And it's none of your concern!"
"It. IS." Chase growled, activating his holoform by the man's side. Yellowish orange eyes burned into Charlie's dark brown ones as he glowered at the man. "You're responsible for my counterpart's death."
"Wait...counterpart?" Charlie blinked in confusion. "I thought you survived the crash!"
"Ah, it seems my death was due to car-crashing."
Puzzled, Charlie was about to wrestle with the jet-black haired man when a tiny creak stopped his actions.
"D-Dad...?" it was Cody's voice. The little blond kid waddled out of the near-collapsing house with his jacket hanging loosely by his shoulders. The boy was pale and he was coughing vehemently as he made his way to the car.
"Dad?" Cody repeated again, tip-toeing to peek into the tinted windows.
"Let me out...please." Charlie said, hands pressing against the glass door. "He's not supposed to be out here."
"I will, on one condition." Chase said seriously.
"Name it!"
"You spill the truth, everything."
"Whatever details you want, I'll have them ready. Now please, he's going to catch a cold!" Charlie submitted.
Chase unlocked the doors and the man jumped out of the car, hugging his frail son. Turning back to the holoformed Chase, Charlie sighed and carried the young child up, holding him safe in his arms.
"Daddy, who's that?" Cody meekly asked, peeking out of Charlie's arms.
"I'm Chase, your father's...acquaintance." Chase said.
'So this is what it feels like when you lie...' Chase thought to himself, refraining from frowning as he stepped into the rugged house. The firehouse he knew was always clean and proper, so this was a whole new experience for the mech.
"It's a mess in here. I hope you don't mind." Charlie grunted as he settled his only child down on the sofa. "Cody? Do me a favour and stay here, okay? Papa's got some adult conversation with Chase here." the man narrowed his eyes at the police bot, hating every moment of this.
"Okay daddy!" Cody beamed before letting out a cough again, making the father tense up.
"This way please." Charlie said, gesturing to his bedroom. Chase visibly jumped as the thought of him entering Charlie's room felt foreign....not that he minded though.
"Where do I start?" Charlie sighed, pinching his nose bridge as he sat on the cheap wooden bed.
"How did me...Chase died?"
"Figured." the single father rolled his eyes before casting a sad look at the man. "I...want you to know that I hadn't mean to cause Chase to die..." he sighed, putting his face into his palms.
"Please elaborate?" Chase tenderly requested.
"It was another day of me stealing when I met your counterpart. He was tailing after me when we got into the winding road of Griffin Rock. I managed to maneuver out of the way with the car I hot wired at the turn...but Chase didn't. He...fell off the cliff." Charlie explained, mood turning somber as he remembered the very day.
"You know? Chase was the nicest besides Optimus when it comes to this cat and mouse game with me. I won't lie... I miss him." That struck a chord in Chase's spark and the mech took a step back, optics shutting with equal sadness too.
"W-What about F-Francine's father?" Chase continued to interrogate despite the sick feeling pooling deep in his systems.
"He's alive, don't worry." Charlie chuckled humorlessly.
"Where is he?"
"In my basement."
"Why?"
"Because he NEEDS TO SAVE MY Son FROM DYING!" Charlie snapped, standing up. He was a tad bit shorter than Chase but his eyes spoke volumes of his protectiveness against his child.
"Cody is ill." Chase stated, giving the man a curt nod. "What exactly is his disease?"
"Pneumonia. Terminal stage." Charlie's voice cracked as he looked into the ravenette's eye. "I can't lose him... I can't."
"That does not excuse your actions of illegal doing."
"DAMN IT CHASE! DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE A CHOICE?!" Charlie roared, gripping Chase's collar as his eyes flushed red and brimming with tears. "I HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS! I HAVE NO FUNDS TO BUY THE MEDS NOR AM I ABLE TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL! I'M BLACKLISTED FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!"
"You can change for the better and ASK FOR HELP! The Charlie Burns I know was never a bad human NOR a quitter!" Chase rebutted, holding Charlie's shoulders with equal force. "The Charlie I know was a courageous man and a loving father of four healthy children. He would sacrifice everything for his family AND Griffin Rock!"
"MAYBE I'M NOT THAT CHARLIE YOU WANT ME TO BE!" The tired father snarled and threw human Chase onto his bed as he straddled the man. "Maybe I'm just another version of Charlie and you need to get that through your thick skull...or processors." Charlie's voice sent shivers to Chase, the mech being unused to this new version of his Chief.
"Chief-I mean-"
"So, I'm a chief in your realm?" Charlie smirked, leaning deeper into Chase's broad chest. "I'll slip in another secret for you." the man smiled coyly and whispered into Chase's ears.
"Me and you...or the other you, we've had something going on. We truly do." he admitted, lowering his head down onto Chase, looking into his optics sorrowfully.
"Chief and I...had something too... I think." Chase muttered, allured by the man's different scent. His Charlie was prim and proper, smelling fresh mint all the time while this man before him reeks pinewood smell and smoke.
"Oh? And what is it?" Charlie egged on.
"We had trust with each other." Chase replied and sat up, turning the tables as he switched positions with the sly fellow.
"We know each other like the back of our hand." Chase continued, growling into the single father's ears this time.
"Chase-"
"And I know EVERYTHING about him, especially WEAKNESSES." Chase finished and nipped the man's ears, knowing full well that Charlie's was the most sensitive at that area.
Just like he predicted, Charlie went silent as his breathing became ragged.
"Now Charlie, we're going to strike another deal." Chase stated, authority leaking from his tone.
"W-What is i-it?"
"I need you to turn yourself in. For your sake and Cody." Chase stated calmly.
"I-I can't..." Charlie mumbled, shaking his head as he laid on his stomach.
"Why not?"
"They are going to send my son to the orphanage. I can't lose him..."
Chase went silent at that statement. It was true that Charlie would lose the parenting rights to his child due to his circumstances, something that neither Chase nor Charlie wanted.
"I can offer a deal with the team." Chase suggested. "You return Doc Greene, and they will help you treat your son."
"But I will still be sent to jail!" Charlie fought back. "I won't be able to look after if I'm in jail now, can I?" he sassed.
After a long period of silence, Chase perked up as he remembered a faint detail of human laws and smiled.
Placing a kiss on the left side of Charlie's neck, Chase's smirked as he mumbled out his answer to the worried father.
"Perhaps you don't need to go to jail after all."
---
Sending out a beacon to the team, they took no time to arrive at the firehouse with the whole crew.
"Chase!" Heatwave yelled, transforming into his biped mode as he stomped towards the calm mech. "What in the Pits are you thinking!?"
"A solution to this mess." Chase responded, staring up at his counterpart's leader icily. Optimus stepped forward and spoke, cutting the tension between the two Rescue Bots.
"Easy, Heatwave." The Prime advised, making the red mech back away.
Turning to the alternate reality bot, Optimus raised an optic ridge. "What is the reason you've brought us here, Chase?"
"I believe that it is time we end this cat and mouse game. Charlie is willing to stop and surrender, setting free Doctor Greene." Chase said.
"And what does he wish in return?" Optimus was always ever so sharp about tradings and deals.
"He asked that his son, Cody, is to be treated and nursed back to health... And that he is to be on house arrest, instead of imprisonment." Chase finished.
"He wants what!?" Jack yelled in astonishment, voicing his team's collective thoughts out loud.
"His son to receive medical care and house arrest." Chase repeated, guarding the front door with his frame.
"And what makes you think we will fall for his trick? If anything, we're taking you in for interrogation too!" Arcee hissed.
"I don't believe that is necessary." Charlie's figure emerged from the shadows of Chase, spooking everyone. "I mean it." the man sighed as he looked at the team in guilt.
Agent Fowler stepped forward, looking at his once friend with sympathy. "You seemed...tired, Charlie." he said dryly.
"I've been running away for years, William. I think it's about time we put a stop to this game of tag... I don't have much time left." Charlie whispered the last part out.
Agent Fowler set a comforting hand on his coworker's shoulder, nodding firmly.
"I think it's about time we take our friend back." William said. In the background, Frankie rejoiced as she hugged her father, who seemed dazdd if anything.
"Oh? Hi Frankie! I missed you too!" he chuckled, rubbing his daughter's hair.
"You don't look harmed." Miko eyed the man weirdly. "I thought Charlie had you hostage?"
"Not exactly; I was merely making a cure for his son...though, he did kidnap me or so to say." The doctor replied, scratching his neck as he looked at the troubled father with sympathy. "I don't blame him; all I see is a desperate man trying to save his son."

"So....how are you going to go home?" Smokescreen asked the police bot, breaking the brief moment of tranquility.
"This machine has been fixed by Doc Greene himself." Chase said, showing off a timepiece. "I think it's time for me to go. I have overstayed my welcome."
"Do not think in such manner, young mech. We pray for your safe journey back, Chase." Optimus shook his helm, casting a wise glance at the mech. "Remember, you will always have a home with us."
"Thank you sir." Chase smiled, saluting the Prime.
"But I believe that your family is waiting for you at the other end. Goodbye and good luck, soldier." Optimus nodded and backed away. The rest of the team raised their hands and servos, bidding the bot goodbye.
"A word before you leave for good?" Charlie hesitantly asked.
"Yes...sir?" Chase quietly replied, picking the man up and turned back into the firehouse.
"I didn't get the chance to say thank you...for everything." Charlie said, patting the mech's thumb. "You're right Chase. If my Chase was still alive, he'd probably give the same advice as you did." the old man sent a weak smile up.
Bending down, Chase collided his dermas onto Charlie's inviting ones for a moment before pulling away. His spark tugged and yearn for the man, but he had a Charlie at home.
His Charlie.
"I'm sure he would be proud of you now, Charlie." Chase replied. "Because I know I am."
"Here, take this." Charlie fished out something from his pocket and handed it to the mech. "It's wrapped up. Open it ONLY when you're alone, got it?" Charlie coyly grinned.
"You have my word... Charlie." The blue and white mech promised and went back out.
Setting the mech down, he turned to the small kid on a stretcher and placed a soft digit to the kid's forehead, brushing away some stray hair from his face.
"Stay strong Cody." he said softly. The weak child gave him a thumbs up and smiled too, smiling his little set of teeth.
"I'll..try..." Cody breathed out.
Satisfied, Chase pressed the button and disappeared, leaving nothing of his existence except for his pedsteps.
"Goodbye, Chase..." Charlie mumbled out as he got into the police car with his hands cuffed.
Chase felt his audial receptors ringing as he tipped to the side, getting a vertigo from time-travelling.
"Chase? What are you doing?" Cody asked, looking up at the wobbly mech from the porch. Chase shook his confusion away and stared at the child, his mind suddenly floating back to the ailing Cody.
"Do I have something on my face?" the innocent child asked, pointing to his cheeks.
"No. I was...sidetracked. Don't worry about it, Cody." Chase said and went inside, the little boy tailing along.
"Oh! There you are, Chase!" Chief beamed with delight as he got off the elevator. "Did you receive the parcel from Doc Greene?" he asked with hands extended.
"I did and, if may I suggest, don't use it?" Chase requested.
"Why?" Chief asked, looking at the timepiece with curiosity.
"Call it a hunch." Chase wagged a digit at his partner and walked away to a corner. Peeling away the gift, Chase smiled to himself as he picked out an old, yellowish photo.
To be exact, a photo of AU Charlie and Cody, smiling at the camera with the young boy blowing a candle off from a cupcake.
"I have a Charlie here; my Charlie." Chase whispered to no one as he turned back to look at the scene. His team and Chief's kids were hanging around, having fun with one another.
"Home...with Chief."
