soobin knew he didn't have to ask you this every time he was close to you. but even so, he wanted to be sure. and that never failed to make you feel warm inside. you felt so safe in his arms. so secure and out of harm's way. nothing could hurt you or upset you when you were with him. that's something you couldn't say about anyone else.

life had been getting you down recently. it was busy and tedious and boring, and there was very little happiness in it. except with him. so as you lay there on top of him, head on his chest as his arms wrapped around your body, you felt as if you had never been so happy before in your entire life.

and with the calming beat of his heart, you fell asleep. maybe life had given you something to be grateful for, after all. and your boyfriend felt the same.

yeonjun knew how bad your insomnia would get. but he didn't have all the solutions. which, honestly, frustrated him. when it came to you, he wanted to figure out and fix all your problems as soon as possible. but with things he didn't understand, or things that couldn't be prevented, he was at a loss. does that mean he soon gives up? never.

so his solution to your insomnia was simple. him. he knew he could relax you. knew he could soothe you and lull you to sleep. it had been such a success so many times before.

so as you lay in his arms, perfectly snug with your head laying on his chest. you focused on the beat of his heart. it was a comforting sound you had gotten used to. and he felt that he had found the right solution for you, just by giving you the comfort you needed.

it was a usual thing for you and beomgyu to stay up all night talking. he was just such an interesting person and had a lot to say, a lot of opinions and a lot on his mind. but tonight, you found yourself too tired to keep awake.

the position of laying on his chest didn't help. the gentle heart beats paired with the soft rumble of his voice as he rambled on about his day made you feel so comfortable. he felt like home. he was your home.

i mean, that was an understatement; you had been crying for most of it. this week had gotten progressively worse, and the only thing that could keep you from spiralling was your boyfriend. so, in a desperate attempt to make yourself feel better, you phoned him up. and he dropped everything, and came immediately.

"i'm so sorry." you kept apologising, and he hated that. there was nothing to feel sorry for because you were his priority. he had your lead laying on his chest as he ran his fingers through your hair, hushing you and making you feel warm and at peace again.

you focused on his calm breathing. inhale, exhale. inhale, exhale. the rhythm was slow and beautiful. his whole presence was gentle. kissing the crown of your head, he whispered to you every now and then; words you couldn't comprehend as you slowly fell asleep. but the only coherent words that remained in your mind were 'i love you.'

Top Kpop Songs of 2022

I FINALLY FINISHED WRITING IT... AND IT’S ONLY THE THIRD OF JANUARY!! A miracle. Anyways please enjoy my hard work (or not), hopefully you’ll find a song you like :~)

1. Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go - TXT

If you ignore Rock with you and some lingering 2021 releases that are always in my heavy rotation, TCHFTG is my most streamed Kpop song BY FAR this year (actually it’s #2 on my Spotify Wrapped right after Rock with you 🙂 i am normal)!!! Which is quite a feat considering I don’t even pay attention to TXT. Not that I actively dislike their music, I just haven’t been into it since their debut with Crown (I know they’ll never return to that ebullient bright sound but it’s ok 😔). This song has all the hallmarks of a solid bop in my book: consistent 80s beat, incredibly catchy earworm of a chorus, and a wonderful 80s synth post-chorus hook. I love how the pre chorus sounds emotional, almost as if they’re pleading.

Also I just looked up the writing credits and this has 19 people credited for composing???? My goodness

2. Love Love Love - VIVIZ

This song is sooooo good. It’s a very straightforward song but HOOO the house beat in this elevates an already great song to perfection for me. The house beat in the intro is 👩‍🍳💋, the first part of the chorus is kinda standard fare for an edm song drop, but then the second part of the chorus kicks in!!! And then the post-chorus “oohooohohoooh” seals the deal for me, as someone who loves that repetitive sort-of adlibbing (sorry I don’t know the exact term for this lol). Then when the second chorus comes up it goes straight to the second part, skipping the “oh, say, love, love, love, love” part. BUT THEN THEY BRING IT BACK IN THE FINAL CHORUS!!!!! The structure of this song is very satisfying to me…

I do wish that they hadn’t put in that trap breakdown tempo shift for the second verse but the rest of the song makes up for it. It’s not even egregious like some other trap breakdowns (forever haunted by the rap in Bboom Bboom, even 4 years later).

3. Brave - TWICE

This was the standout song on BETWEEN 1&2 for me… absolutely flawless song. The entire song is an earworm, both the verses and chorus, but damn that chorus and bridge really sell it. There’s a sense of catharsis in the chorus, with Jihyo or Nayeon belting, “Braaaaave” right off the bat, and the chanted “brave, brave, brave for you” both preceding and following each section of the chorus (also being a recurring part of the song). It just knocks it out of the park for me. Did I already mention this song is so catchy!!!! Definitely one of my contenders for best Twice B-side. Personally.

4. because - Rie

Originally I had slotted this song further down my list but I can’t deny how much I like this song… so into 4th place it goes! The filtered dreamy instrumental throughout the song establishes such a nostalgic, sentimental, yearning feeling. I really feel something in my chest when I listen to it. It’s a very straightforward simple song but the emotions it manages to evoke in me elevates it that much more, especially the chorus. And the slower piano outro at the end is the cherry on the top.

5. Done - WJSN

While it takes a bit of time to build up to the main star of this song, Done’s chorus and post-chorus are so worth it. The first part of the chorus is fairly understated but the underlying beat is addicting, and the second part is pretty potent. Also, I have to say I often don’t vibe with Exy’s raps but I really enjoy the second verse here. Overall the song feels like a chill clubbing song which fits the vibe of what I like in loopable music….

6. LOVE DIVE - IVE

NARCISSISTIC MY GOD I LOVE IT SEOROREUL BICHUN BAM

I wasn’t expecting to like this song as much as I do now, especially since I didn’t like ELEVEN at ALL, but LOVE DIVE grew on me… I really like that it kind of captures that cool, stylish, better-than-you badass girl energy without having to resort to the shitty noisy girl crush sound that a certain 4-member group puts out… it’s perfect teen pop. If I was stylish in high school I would’ve made the song and concept my personality for a month. The melody, song structure, and chanting are kind of hypnotic in a way? Also very happy to hear Wonyoung using her lower register after years of hearing her force cute high notes in IZ*ONE.

7. Generation - Acid Angel from Asia.SSS

Although I really dislike this group’s concept (NFTs lol) I was hooked on first listen. I think this sound is very influenced by NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM, and maybe some IVE. The whole groovy, effortlessly cooler than you teenage girls concept but not in a bratty or trashy badass image way. It’s very refreshing and I’m pretty excited about this trend in 5th gen Kpop 🥹

As for the song structure itself, it could use some variety. It’s very much the same verse -> la la la hook + chorus, repeat for just shy of three minutes. Could it use a knockout bridge and climax to really elevate the song, besides the one high note before the last chorus? Yeah. Is the song pretty flat besides the earworm parts? Yeah. But I’m plenty happy with it already.

8. Broken - Cherry Bullet

THEE PERFECT BUBBLEGUM POP SONG!!!! Honestly Chebul has been knocking it out of the park with solid sweet/bubblegum pop songs. Too bad they’re flops and only get EPs once a year 🥲 I love everything about Broken’s melody and chorus. If I could actually pronounce Korean I would love to sing this at karaoke. WECHYEO BOLLAE IJENEUN BRO BRO BROKEN BRO BRO BROKEN!!!!!!!

Love in Space is also great but I’m still not super into the speedy verse delivery. Everything else about that song is great though (-person who is a slut for 80s inspired music).

9. Last Sequence - WJSN

If I’m gonna be honest I do think this song is stronger than Done, and I feel kind of like I’m cheating by putting two songs from the same album in my top 10, but… WOW this song!!!!! Solid, confident, powerful dance track all the way through. Also something I personally really like, the little laugh right before the second chorus does things to me…

10. Blind Letter - fromis_9

fromis always delivers with their B-sides and Blind Letter is no different. The chorus just feels SO lush, I was taken by surprise on my first listen. I just really enjoy this one :’^) Also it doesn’t have any rap, and it doesn’t need any.

11. INVU - Taeyeon

God I can’t believe this song came out in 2022. It feels like a December 2021 song. Anyways. Although INVU isn’t usually the kind of sound I go for in my music, I’m utterly captivated by the soundscape in it… While it’s not catchy per se, it’s a mix of haunting, mysterious, and ethereal. The mixing/production is fantastic too. I was really impressed by it when it came out and I find it’s had lasting power.

12. Rewind - fromis_9

UGH yes this song. So groovy and cool. Addictive head-bopping, pervasive beat. And Jiwon’s (or is it Hayoung...help) high note at the climax is delicious.

13. Love You Like - VIVIZ

I love how sweet this song sounds :’) Eunha’s soft voice really complements the first chorus. I’m really glad this came up on my Weekly Discover because it’s right up my alley…The key change in the last chorus is a very nice touch too. Does it reinvent anything? No, but it’s sweet, pleasant, and doesn’t overstay its welcome.

14. Hush Hush - fromis_9

Haha wow lots of fromis B-sides here… this song is a lot of fun, it has a playful, whimsical air to it, and it reminds me of that same energy in a lot of older fromis songs. Like it’s not just catchy but it has some identity to it… Although I do have to admit this song and Cheese from from our Memento Box sound very similar LOL.

15. The Great Mermaid - LE SSERAFIM

Of all the songs on FEARLESS The Great Mermaid left the biggest impact on me!! From the gurgling synths in the beginning to the processed vocal effect and futuristic synths, everything about it is striking. I particularly love how the prechorus ramps up the vocal distortion, I think it’s actually my favorite part of the song. It just sounds so cool…the textures are just so good…

16. Hai Cheng - THE8

Yes I know technically this song is not Kpop… but it’s Minghao who is part of Seventeen sooooooo……. And incidentally I’m really taken with Hai Cheng! It’s such a romantic song. I love that the lyrics speak of seeking someone or something, but in a vague enough way that it doesn’t require a specific object of affection. While the MV depicts a woman, probably a current or past lover, I can see it talking about the idea of a lover too. The yearning for someone who you want to love, cherish, and protect, even if you don’t know who it is yet. Musically it’s a very wistful and sentimental song… it’s very comforting. Very Minghao.

17. Get Out - CNEMA

Yaaaas I love nugu rookie groups... Honestly speaking this song was good/fine until I heard that postchorus gravelly, raw vocal delivery. I was really wowed by it–I think I actually opened my mouth when I heard it, you just don’t hear that in mainstream Kpop. It adds so much more depth and emotion to the song and makes it really special! The rest of the song is solid.

18. Crazy Love - Jeon Woong

2022 was an incredibly disappointing year for AB6IX for me, but this song has special meaning to me. While it’s not really phenomenal in any way, it makes me emotional listening to it because I had it on repeat the day my dog died. So I have very vivid memories of heaving my chest and sobbing my eyes out with this playing in the background :’) It reminds me of my childhood dog and all the love I have for him… even if this song lyrically is about a romantic lover.

I don’t have to rank songs exclusively according to how good they are musically, sometimes it’s just the emotions they’re capable of evoking, y’know?

19. Catch the Stars - woo!ah!

THIS SONG IS SOOOO GOOD it’s infectiously catchy and energetic. It’s so refreshing to listen to since this gg sound isn’t as common now…I love the chugging beat/rhythm in the chorus.

20. Don’t Let Me Know - SHAUN

It’s been a while since a SHAUN song has hooked me but this is the one…!! It’s a pretty basic song but it’s addictive and I like it, and that’s all that matters.

21. Paper Plane - Girls’ Generation

While I admit Forever One is the more memorable and emotional song on this album, I like Paper Plane a little more. It makes me feel like I’m on a relaxing, peaceful journey. The chorus mixing is really well done, I love the vocal blend/layering.

22. WithOrWithOut - YENA

THEE QUINTESSENTIAL 2000’S POP PUNK SOUND!!!! Yena captures and harnesses it sooooo perfectly. I feel transported to the mid 2000s listening to this. Yena’s voice is light and a little airy generally, but I love how she sings here, it still packs a punch. She really fits the 00’s pop rock genre.

23. DM - fromis_9

My fromis girlies delivering another solid retro-inspired bop! Although, even though everything in DM checks off what I like in a song, something about it just feels…lacking compared to some of the other songs I ranked higher. I don’t feel drawn to it compared to their past retro title tracks? Still, this song is potent, the chorus is so good. And it is NOT easy to sing, I have tried. I truly admire Jiwon/Hayoung in this song… speaking of Hayoung THE WHISTLE NOTES AT THE END ARE INSANE??? You don’t hear that in most Kpop songs. Hayoung iconic!

24. Ruby - WOOZI

If you ignore Hai Cheng this is the best Seventeen song put out this year… LOL. There’s so much character and flourish in Ruby, from the grand-sounding orchestral intro to the rocking energy of the rest of the song. I do wish it was longer, and I have some thoughts about Shannon just saying things in the bridge, but this song is solid. And Woozi says shit two times.

25. Chiquita - Rocket Punch

Wah they really perfected the retro sound here 🥹 The chorus packs such a punch. This is probably my favorite title from them after Bouncy, but Bouncy is hard to beat.

26. Love Me Out Loud - Chung Ha

This song is so cathartic… love the build up to the chorus, and the chorus payoff is soooo good. The climax of this song is 👩‍🍳💋 This is the Chung Ha I love!!!!! Not Bicycle 😷 Sparkling is also great, but I cut it from this list because my list is getting too long and I’m getting tired lol

27. AFTER LIKE - IVE

I enjoy After Like; the song on its own is great but at times I do feel like the iconic sample they used post-chorus overshadows other parts of the song.... The chorus kind of pales when placed right before it… HOWEVER I have warmed up to this song over time and really, it’s solid, I’ve found myself singing the chorus at times, what more can I ask for. And the rap break is really good!!!

28. ‘bout you - SEVENTEEN

So like. The funny thing about this song being here is that I didn’t even pay attention to it when I heard the highlight medley for Face the Sun. I was excited for Shadow and Don Quixote but Shadow surprisingly didn’t click with me (I still like it though), and the latter ended up boring/a disappointment… Meanwhile I ended up playing ‘bout you way more because it feels most like essential Seventeen LOL. Like I hear it and I’m like, YES, THIS IS SEVENTEEN!!!!!

29. Runaway - ONF

Aaaaah this song is so groovy. The instrumental that kicks in during the chorus is great. Excited for ONF to come back from the military this year…

30. Annoyed - BAE173

Okay not going to lie part of me wonders if I like this song so much because it’s a good song, or simply because it’s so 2nd gen Kpop and sounds straight from 2010… regardless, great song!!! The piano is soooo reminiscent of late 2000s/early 10’s rnb and I miss that sound a lot.

31. The Game - PENTAGON

Dude. This song. What the fuck. It starts off with operatic singing, has flourishes of opera thrown in throughout the song, features strings, manages to sound baroque yet funky, and has evil laughter from Wooseok. I’m blown away by this song. Unironically it is epic. It’s a travesty that this wasn’t picked for the title song or a promotional sidetrack. There’s sooo much more personality to this experimental track compared to Feelin’ Like lol

32. Danny - LEE CHAE YEON

Breezy 80s synths + Chaeyeon’s gentle, sweet voice = 💖💖💖 Loved this one on first listen. I also liked Same But Different quite a lot, but Danny’s more up my avenue lol, I’m predictable.

33. Underwater - KWON EUN BI

Even though Glitch was stylistically more distinct and refined, I liked Underwater more. Maybe it has to do with the tropical house… since I love tropical house… I really do feel like Eunbi’s cool voice fits these “colder”, mature stylish concepts though, like Door was fine but she really shined this year.

Slayc girls still killing it, though 2022 felt weaker for them than 2021… Still, I really enjoyed Young Luv. The nostalgic guitar in the intro really sets the tone for the rest of the song, and the emotional singing, vocal layering are fantastic.

35. Last Dance - YOUHA

Woooow Youha’s hypnotic and lush voice is back again baby!!! I love how mysterious and sensual this song sounds, her voice is perfect for it. I love the instrumental flourishes during the pre-chorus, they really add to the atmosphere.

36. DANCE ON - ALICE

Another bright poppy catchy gg song!! This song is so refreshing!!!! Even though it came out in autumn it feels so summery…

37. Let Me Drown - HyunJun Hur

L o l okay so let me preface this by saying I don’t actually think this song is that good. It’s very one-note and sounds like some sad SoundCloud rapper/singer’s music, however…I like it and looped it a lot throughout 2022 lol… This was a huge step up from VO!D which was even more repetitive, trappy, and boring. Let Me Drown’s atmosphere and moodiness are done well and enjoyable.

38. Who Am I - ROZY

I’m kinda pissed that I like this song this much to include it on this list, because it’s sung by a “virtual influencer” -___- stupid fucking idea/concept but I genuinely like the song and the vocals, if only I knew who the actual singer is…

39. Darl+ing - SEVENTEEN

This song………. Personally I don’t think it’s that good objectively but ugh. I still like it a lot and it was my 6th most streamed song in 2022 T__T So… It’s sweet and cute! It’s catchy! Whatever!!!!

Best song on the album. Love the synths. Futuristic-sounding synthwave like this IS Key’s sound. It’s hard to beat Bad Love (I don’t know why I didn’t include it in my roundup last year…) but Another Life feels like a sibling or cousin to Bad Love.

42. Never Stop Me - (G)I-DLE

I liked this track way more than Tomboy, I think Never Stop Me really captures the 2000s pop punk/rock sound and is catchier LOL.

43. #Self_Trip - MINSEO

I loooove Minseo’s vocals. I’d describe this song as like… captivating? While I’m actually not that into the melody, her vocals are really what shines here.

TXT Universe Theory: The Dream Chapter

Hello and welcome back to another one of my theories! This theory will be quite long and will take into account everything in the first chapter of TXT’s story. I won’t be doing Minisode 1 or either of the Chaos Chapters yet cause it will give us all a headache if I do, so yes, there will be things missing. Believe me, I know, I’m just pretending like I don’t know anything for the sake of my mind XD Let’s dive into the theory!

The Protagonists

Name: Choi Yeonjun

Keywords: Promise, guilty, sleepless, apricity 

Association: Paranoid Park

Metamorphosis: Horns

Songs: Crown, Magic Island

Yeonjun is, perhaps, more relevant than his character wishes he was. Paranoid Park, the book (and perhaps also movie) he’s associated with, talks about a 16-year-old boy who accidentally kills a policeman and tries to cope with it while simultaneously hiding what he did. Yeonjun’s guilt can be seen almost everywhere. His Dream-Self grows horns during Nap of a Star, which are generally associated with evil and destruction, and in Crown he expresses his fear of being evil.

In the teasers for Magic Island he says “I think there’s someone else aside from us #itsmyfault”. And in the teasers for The Dream Chapter: Eternity he adds the hashtags #imscared #itwasjustajoke when revealing his association. He did something that makes him feel guilty. He possibly didn’t kill anyone (I mean, if anyone did, it’s most likely Beomgyu, but that’s not here nor there), but it hasn’t been revealed yet what he did do.

I associate Magic Island with him because it talks about promises and about the Odd Eye Cat, which I will talk about more in detail later, but suffice to say the Odd Eye Cat might have something against Yeonjun. There is a small chance that Yeonjun feels guilty about having forgotten their promise with the Star, since his word is promise. Everyone forgot, but maybe he’s more emotionally aware of it.

Name: Choi Soobin

Keywords: Tomorrow, invisible, understanding, apricity

Association: Le Doulos

Metamorphosis: Elongated ears

Songs: Eternally

Soobin is on the opposite side of the coin with Yeonjun. He too is aware about the promise with the Star, but in a very different way. He is perhaps what we would define as a traditional protagonist, as he can hear the voice of the Star well before anyone else can, even if he can’t remember the promise. The first time we see him perceiving the voice is in Magic Island, that is when he starts to feel separated from the group. He’s still unaware of it, but he knows something that the others don’t and that puts a wall between them. In the Magic Island teaser he uses the hashtag “#IThinkImTheOnlyOneWhosDifferent”, and in the Eternity concept photos he says “Why am I the only one having a hard time?” and “Everything is your fault”. He is also tagged as invisible, which alludes to the fact that he feels distanced from the others, and is also the only one to get no interactions on his posts. The fact that he’s blaming someone might be that he’s aware of the voice or that he knows someone in the group messed up.

Name: Choi Beomgyu

Association: The Catcher in the Rye

Metamorphosis: Spines on the back

Songs: ???

Beomgyu is an interesting if confusing character. Based on how he acts in the MVs, he seems to be rather headstrong and confident, much like the main character, Holden, of Catcher in the Rye, a story strongly related to growing up and leaving the innocence of childhood behind. Holden considers adults (and his life) to be quite unfair, doesn’t trust them, and wants to become a protector of the innocence of other children. However, much like Beomgyu, he’s rather headstrong and careless, moving forward without much consideration, which often gets him in trouble. These aspects can be seen reflected on the Magic Island Teaser, where he writes “What’s the problem? Let’s just do it. #rewind #hope #CantTrustAnyone, as well as the Port teasers from Eternity where he says things like “Who saw me that day?”, “We were all together then, right?” and “I don’t think this is the world I used to know” (which is tagged with “unfair”), and uses the hashtags #NothingToHide, #IsItMyFault?”. We do see him start the fire in both the Magic Island Teaser and MV, which might hint to the fact that he feels it’s unfair to blame him when they were all there, and he doesn’t actually believe himself to be at fault. He was just taking care of them.

Name: Kang Taehyun

Keywords: Clue, suspicious, breathe, serenity

Association: Philip Marlowe

Metamorphosis: Star eye

Songs: ???

Taehyun’s character is observant and prefers to stay on the sidelines to catch every detail before casting his judgement. In the Magic Island Teaser he says “There’s got to be a way out” with the hashtag #LetsThinkAboutIt, plus, in the Port Teasers from Eternity, he keeps a reasonable suspicion on his team members about who’s truly at fault and uses the hashtags #EverybodyLies and #IWantToKnowTheTruth. This ties in well with his associated character, Philip Marlowe, the private detective. Both characters keep a distance and analyze everything carefully, never resorting to violence. It is worth noting that he keeps Yeonjun’s teddy bear at the end of Run Away, which in the teasers is labelled as “clue”. Taehyun is always observing.

Name: Huening Kai

Association: Stand by me

Metamorphosis: Wings

Songs: Nap of a star

Huening Kai is perhaps one of the most complicated and mysterious characters in the story, since his role isn’t as established as the others. He’s constantly out of the loop about the situation that is happening, which is demonstrated by phrases like “What the hell is happening?” (Magic Island Teaser) and “What happened?” (‘Port’ Teasers) as well as the hashtags #OnTheSidelines and #IKnowNothing, as well as two of his keywords being secret and lonely. His associated media is also interesting, as Stand by me talks about a man remembering the trip he did with three of his friends when they were 12 to find the body of a missing boy. At the end of the movie, the main character Gordie, recalls his friends and comments on how much he’ll always miss them and how he’s never had friendships like that again. This raises the question if perhaps one of the boys would be the dead kid the others are trying to find. Kai being kept out of the loop could point to him being it, as he’s always trying to reach for them but can’t quite do it, however it could also be argued that either Yeonjun or Soobin could fill that space as well.

The Setting: The Real World vs The Dream World

Back on the very early BTS theories, a lot of us didn’t think time travel or time loops were the answer, but it turned out we were wrong. At first, when working on this theory, I wasn’t sure where I should draw the distinction between reality and fantasy. In the end, I’ve decided that everything is real but in different ways, and I’ve decided to make the distinction between the Real World and the Dream World; after all, this is called the Dream Chapter.

The Real World is, you guessed it, pretty much just our normal world. Nothing magical or physics-law-breaking to be seen here. The Dream World is, well, a world made of dreams. But remember I said everything is real (I know the names I gave the two realities contradict this, hit me up if you have better suggestions). Whatever happens in the Dream World is just as real as whatever happens in the Real World, it’s just in a different plane of existence. It might also be of interest to note that sometimes these worlds blend. 

So, if everything is real in the Dream World, what is real in the Real World? This is a complicated question because even our characters struggle telling reality apart from the dreams, especially because the dreams aren’t just dreams. The fires that occur in Run Away and Can’t You See Me are very much symbolic, but them jumping into the Dream World through the subway in Magic Island is real. The visions they have in Eternally aren’t happening in the Real World either. It’s just a matter of what is supported through other clues and pieces of evidence, which I’ll try to provide.

The Story

So, you know, what is like… happening? Everything is extremely confusing and it took me a while to understand that pretty much all videos are happening like, at the same time? As in, it’s the same event but from different perspectives and slightly different intervals of time. So let’s try to lay down a cohesive timeline.

It all starts with the events narrated in Nap of a Star. When they were children, the five of them (or well, maybe I should say six) met through the Dream world and became such good friends that they promised to meet there again. However, as it happens, they grew up and forgot about it, meeting once again many years later through the school and the company without remembering each other. 

While growing up, they have gone through many different things that have hurt and changed them, which manifested in their dream bodies as the “imperfections” that they all have. I believe these imperfections are tied to each of their characters: horns tend to represent evil, which ties in with Yeonjun feeling guilty and blaming himself for everything. Kai’s wings look angel-like, which fits his sweet personality who helps the “demon” (Yeonjun) and is always believing the best about his friends. Beomgyu is very defensive, which translates into his porcupine-like spines. Soobin is a good listener (plus he’s literally the first one to hear the Star’s voice) and Taehyun is good at observing the others. So these are all manifestations of how life has shaped them to be who they are now.

They become very good friends once again and get along well, nice! However, we know things are not perfect, and they have to confront a series of personal conflicts. Especially Yeonjun, who’s so overcome by the negativity in his life that he starts a fire that can’t be put out in Run Away. This fire is metaphorical, and represents all the pain and stress he’s been dealing with. So what do they do? They try to find an escape from all their troubles.

There’s two ways this could’ve happened: the first one is that they stumble with the Dream World by accident on the Run Away MV when they go in through the pool. This seems fitting because of their reactions. After that they research it and Soobin discovers that there’s a secret magical entrance at a train station, as we can see in the Sanctuary Photo Teasers from the Magic comeback in the official BigHit website. The other option is that this accidental discovery didn’t happen and they simply researched. This would turn their visit in Run Away into a “summary” of sorts of their first impression of the place.

[Translation:

Soobin: I saw how to find the hidden magic platform?

Soobin: When you close and open your eyes there, your dream becomes reality

Taehyun: Woah, cool

Taehyun: (not sure about this one) for real?

Soobin: Should we go together?]

Either way, they get there. Of course, as shown by the door being set on fire at the end of Run Away when Yeonjun looks at it, his worries aren’t entirely gone, but at least they’re under control now, or so it seems. This part of the video also ties in with the end of Nap of a Star. All of the children come together to help the “monster” and they reunite at the Dream World once again, awakening the Star.

After this, though, weird things begin to happen. Someone or something is trying to reach out to them, and causes them to have really strange dreams. This entity, presumably the Star as marked by the pieces of dialogue, even follows them to their practice room, and keeps begging them to remember them. Yes, I think the Practice Room Ghost and the Star are the same character (and I also think they represent MOA, in a way). 

[Translation: Remember my name.]

Here’s where the visions in Eternally come into play. The individual vision each of them has is, physically speaking, nothing more than that: a vision or dream. So they start having these visions, and some of them, especially Soobin who keeps hearing the Star’s voice, start doubting their reality. Plus, weird things start happening in their practice room, so no doubt they end up hearing about the Practice Room Ghost.

They have a conversation about it on the subway, and Soobin goes to mention he had a weird dream but then he backtracks. Obviously, he’s talking about the vision we see in Eternally, because he even says he always wakes up crying from it. In a split second, they decide to stop at the Magic Island using the method that Soobin found previously, and they go have fun there.

[Translation:

Yeonjun: Did you hear about the practice room’s mirror ghost?

Beomgyu: *sland for shivering* A ghost? Wow

Taehyun: I heard about it. There’s no ghosts, you’re just tired and saw wrong.

Soobin: I’ve had weird dreams lately *cries* Maybe it was because I’m tired...

Kai: Did you have a scary dream again?

Soobin: (deleted message) In the dream we...

Yeonjun: Ah, I shouldn’t have said anything.

Beomgyu: What’s scary about this? If there’s a real ghost let’s go and check at night *laughs*

Kai: Hyungs, stop talking about scary things please *cries*

Taehyun: Beomgyu hyung is joking about this too??

Yeonjun: Should we just go to Ttukseom?]

Naturally, things go wrong, what else were we expecting? Their antics end up setting the magic forest on fire, until they end up destroying the whole Dream World, and it leads us to the start of Eternally. One thing I believe to be very interesting is how, when they’re trapped in the storm, Soobin keeps touching his ears, Kai touches his chest like in Nap of a Star, and Beomgyu touches his shoulder. Yeonjun and Taehyun aren’t properly shown but they probably also touch the affected places.

I would argue that Can’t You See Me? is also just a reinterpretation of the conflict they’re going through, both within themselves but also as a group, because they did just destroy their secret place. This is pretty much where the current timeline ends. I’m a bit uncertain if they’re trapped in the Dream World or outside of it without being able to go back, because Taehyun does mention wanting to go back in the Port teasers, but he doesn’t specify where. I want to bet that they’re trapped in the Dream World but I do need to analyze the Chaos Chapter better to decide that.

The Practice Room Star

Yes, this is a play on words, as I fully believe that the Practice Room Ghost and the Star are both the same entity. When they were kids, they made a promise with the Star, but they’ve forgotten it with time, and now that they have reunited and found their way into the Dream World again, the Star wants them back. The Star is probably a very powerful being, since they are able to interfere with the Real World to reach to them, enough to make them confused about their own reality. Their bond seems to be stronger with Soobin, who’s even able to hear them reach out on occasion. It’s uncertain what exactly it is that they want.

The Visions (Eternally MV)

The night of the last day & Song of a Star (Soobin’s visions)

Eternally starts at the end of Magic Island, with the Dream World completely in ruins. Eternally happens before Magic Island, so this dream Soobin has at the beginning is nothing but a prophecy. In the dream, he is holding a book, which we also see Beomgyu with. I think this book is the one they got the information about the Dream World during the Magic era, since the cover is very similar to the symbols we can see in Run Away. 

I believe Song of a Star is the Star reaching out to him. He’s the first one to be able to hear the Star, as shown in Magic Island, and he also references the Star’s song in teachers. The kid he sees is probably the version of himself that first entered the Dream World as a kid (or maybe Kai lol), which might be why he wants to cry everytime he has that dream: it’s the nostalgia for a time he left behind.

Room No. 17 (Beomgyu’s vision)

While I’m not sure what the number 17 means yet, and my research on numerology yielded no results, this vision is particularly interesting to me. Through it we get to see Beomgyu’s more ‘brash’ nature as he defends the book that Soobin was seen holding previously. If that book is their key to the Dream World, then it makes a lot of sense that he’s trying to protect it. I’m not sure who the other person trying to stop him is, but it does kinda look like things didn’t go well for them after Beomgyu transformed. 

Girl of Eternity (Huening Kai’s vision)

Perhaps the strangest of names for visions, this clearly represents how the rest of the members keep moving far away from Kai and become unreachable to him. He mentions several times how he’s clueless about what’s going on and wants to understand, but the rest of them continue to keep him in the dark, so he feels a distance growing between them, which might increase in the future.

Moratorium of Rest (Taehyun’s vision)

Taehyun’s vision is perhaps the most shocking of all, as it shows us Yeonjun sitting on a chair and covered in spines and purple “paint”. Yeonjun is sitting in the middle of a field of all sorts of violets, and Taehyun tries calling him before realizing the condition Yeonjun is in.

Promise (Yeonjun’s vision)

Yeonjun shares the misfortune with Taehyun of seeing his lifeless corpse, except his vision is much less artistic about it. After finding his body, he sees a fire from the corner of his eye, and right next to it, you guessed it, the odd-eyed cat. His vision in particular finishes with the phrase “I thought it was salvation, then.” And here is where things turn south.

Yeonjun’s promise and the Odd-Eye Cat

I have a very strong reason to believe that Yeonjun is in danger of dying an awful death, and it’s only partially because of the visions. Since Nap of a Star, Yeonjun has been followed by the vigilant eyes of the Odd-Eye Cat almost religiously, and it usually never brings good situations with it. It’s bad enough that the neck cut in Nap of a Star is replicated in Taehyun’s vision, that Soobin sees Yeonjun all bloody in Eternally, and that both Yeonjun and Taehyun see the former dead, but there might be some external clues that hint towards Yeonjun’s upcoming demise.

In the official BigHit website for TxT’s discography, where we found out that Soobin researched and figured out the way to go into the Dream World, we can find a picture of Yeonjun reading a book. In English, this book is called The Alchemaster’s Apprentice. This book narrates the story of a black cat who sells its soul to a sort of wizard in exchange for food, since he’s starving to death. The wizard agrees to fatten the cat for a month, after which it will kill it and use its fat for magical purposes.

The cat in this book doesn’t have heterochromia, however I found out some pagan groups in Eastern Europe believe that a different colored eye was a witch’s eye, meaning that the eye has literally been swapped out with a witch’s. I fully believe that Yeonjun made a deal he shouldn’t have, and the Odd-Eye Cat has been sent by whoever made the deal with him to check on him. It might just be that Yeonjun’s time is going to run out very soon, and the visions are trying to warn everyone of that.

Conclusion

Magic exists and TxT might have bitten more than they can chew because they wanted to run away from the problems of real life (relatable). Now, the Star that they made a promise with is trying to reach them, and maybe warn them about something that’s coming. The fact is that they’re not safe, especially Yeonjun, and things might turn south very quickly very soon.

As the choreographer allows a break, the members of the band sit and cool down while the arguably most chaotic member sings Circus by Britney Spears quite loudly. The sound of footsteps running in the hall catches the attention of the band as someone yells, "FREE BRITNEY!" before they continue running down the hall.

   Confused, Chang Nari looks around the room, her band mates equally confused before she realizes that those are the first words her soulmate says to her. She rushes to look outside the door into the hallway, unfortunately too late to see the culprit. Sighing, she walks back to her band mates and takes a sip of her water.

   "What was that?" Eun asks. "My soulmate." She shrugs. Osamu spits his water out in shock. "What!?" All four members ask at the same time. "Free Britney." She says showing them her wrist. "H.K, 18, XII." Hyejin reads.

   "Okay, your soulmate is eighteen, good you won't catch a case. Twelve months? Days? Minutes?" Yejun says. "Unless you keep track it's hard to tell. Mine said twelve and then the next minute it said eleven so that's how I kept track and found my soulmate twelve minutes after our concert." Osamu says.

   "Duri is so amazing." Hyejin gushes over Osamu's soulmate. "Well it's been a minute and it hasn't changed so it's not minutes." Nari says. "Okay, back to practice." The choreographer says. Practice goes well and soon the band is going back to their dorm.

   The bands dorm is five bedrooms so each member has their own and that proves convenient for when someone wants a guest over. Opening the door, Hyejin hears a loud meow and a hello. "Duri!" Eun yells, running to the kitchen where Duri is cooking for the band. "Nabi!" Nari yells, picking up the small kitten that ran to her.

   Petting the four month old cat, Nari walks to the kitchen were everyone has gathered. "Hi, Duri!" She smiles at the older female. "Hi, Nari. Nabi was very talkative today." She smiles back. "She seems to get more and more talkative every day." Yejun says.

   "She also gets more energetic each day." Hyejin says. "She's only a kitten, of course she's energetic." Nari defends. A knock on the door pulls their attention and Nari goes to open it as she's the closest. She looks out the peephole before she opens it. "Hello?" She says. "Hello, are you one of the members of H.O.N.E.Y?" He asks her.

   "Yes, how can I help?" She asks. "I'm Kang Taehyun of Tomorrow x Together, we wanted to know if you guys have any time that we can meet and ask for advice? BTS recommended asking you guys for more advice if we need it." He says. "One moment." She smiles turning to face the kitchen.

   "CAN SOMEONE BRING ME THE PLANNER AND A PEN AND ALSO GRAB NABI FROM ME!?" She yells. "YEAH." Eun yells back. Eun brings the planner and a pen and grabs Nabi from Nari's arms. "Okay, so, we are really busy training this week but we are available two Tuesdays from now, that's in twelve days." She says. Taehyun pulls out his phone and checks his calendar.

   "We're free then, where do you want to meet?" He asks. "Just bring your band here, as long as no ones allergic to cats." She says. "None of us are, So two Tuesdays from now, here, what time?" He asks. "Two in the afternoon?" She asks. "That works, thank you." He says with a bow. "It's no problem." She smiles.

   She closes the door an shoes back to the kitchen. "WE MADE IT!" She yells. "What!?" Yejun asks. "BTS recommended a newer band to us for advice." She smiles. "Ooh, what band?" Hyejin asks. "Tomorrow x Together." She answers, grabbing the pencil from next to the calendar. She finds the Tuesday that's planned and writes 'txt at 2pm'.

   "Oh, oh, uhh, they have that song with morse code at the beginning that they debuted with, right?" Yejun asks Osamu. "Yeah, Crown." Osamu confirms. "They also have anti-romantic, which has a tiktok dance." Eun says. "I like Nap of a star." Hyejin says. "Two Tuesdays from now at 2pm?" Eun asks. "Yes, it's on the planner and the calendar, just like always." Nari confirms.

   "Taehyun came to the door and introduced himself. He said that BTS recommended us if they needed more advice." She gushes. "You look up to them so much it's hilarious." Eun laughs. "They have over 47 million followers on instagram and they have like over 35 million monthly listeners on spotify. They have fans in probably every country, they have worked with Halsey and others, they have broken so many barriers in the Kpop world, and they have won countless awards. Why wouldn't I look up to them?" She asks.

"Your fan girl is showing, Nari." Duri laughs. "Oh well, it's not a secret I'm an army." She shrugs. Duri finishes cooking dinner and plates it for everyone before they sit and eat together. They share light conversation, just bonding as they usually do. "I'm thinking about getting a puppy." Nari says randomly after a few moments of silence.

   "No you aren't." Eun says. "Yeah, I'm not. It's like that one time I said I was going to cut my hair short, I don't mean it I just said it because I thought about it." I shrug. "Do you wanna dye your hair tonight? I have leftover pink and with your black roots it'll look really good, we can just put it over the bleached part." Hyejin says. "Yes, as soon as we finish dinner that way I have time to shower and be well rested for tomorrow." She says.

After dinner, Osamu and Yejun do the dishes while Hyejin and Nari go to the bathroom and Eun goes and sits in the living room with Duri. Nari sets up her phone to do a live while Hyejin works on her hair. "Hello, hello." She waves as people start joining. "How's my day? My days been very good, we did a lot of practicing dances and then we came home and ate a nice dinner and now Hyejin is dying my hair." She says.

"What color? Pink." She answers. "I got an idea, you trust me right?" Hyejin asks her. "Yes, do whatever you want to my hair." She replies. "Favorite english word? Ricochet or maybe bodacious. I like to say words like ethereal and surreal as well though." She says.

   "Something exciting that happened today? Well, today I had a fellow idol ask if their band could meet with our band and ask some advice because BTS recommended us for if they needed more advice. I was very honored." She answers.

   "My bias in BTS? Not available because they're all kinda like older brothers to me." She says. "Favorite Kpop group? I like Twice and Red Velvet and Stray Kids and BTS and Blackpink and more." She answers. "What are the full names, pronouns, and ages of everyone in the band? Well, fun fact if you're ever struggling to remember one of our names just remember H.O.N.E.Y is our initials. In honey order it's Hyejin, Osamu, Nari, Eun, and Yejun. Age order it's Yejun, Osamu, Eun, Hyejin, Nari. Last names are Kim Yejun, Jeong Osamu, Lee Eun, Yun Hyejin, and Chang Nari." She answers.

   "Oh I forgot to say ages and pronouns, Yejun is 25, Osamu is 25, Eun is 23, Hyejin is 20, and I'm 18. Yejun is non-binary so they/them, Osamu uses he/him, Eun is she/they, Hyejin is gender fluid so any pronouns, and I use she/her." She adds. "What ethnicity is Osamu? Half Korean half Japanese. His mom is from Japan and she moved here and met his dad." She answers.

"How many of us have found our soulmates? Just Osamu, however I believe I almost met my soulmate today because we were taking a water break and I was singing Circus by Britney Spears and someone ran past and said 'free Britney' which are the words on my wrist." She smiles. "Favorite Britney song? Probably Circus because it's really catchy." She answers.

   "How was my english so good at our debut when I was only thirteen? My moms Australian and so that entire half of my family speaks English and from a young age she would make sure I could understand it. Also, my dad was moved to America for work when I was four and so we moved and lived there for eight years then we came back to South Korea when they moved him back and I became a trainee and we debuted a year later when Yejun and Osamu finished their military service." She answers.

   "Are we ever going to take a break? We don't plan to, that's why BigHit had Yejun and Osamu complete their military service pre-debut." She answers. "Do I listen to the neighborhood? Yes, I like Cry Baby, Daddy Issues, and Sweater Weather." She says. "What are my soulmates initials? H.K. and we assume it's not the english way so it's surname, given name." She says.

   "Why am I the main vocalist when I prefer rapping? I'm the main vocalist because I have the largest vocal range." She says. "Song that gets stuck in my head easily? A lot of them but Choke by I Dont Know How But They Found Me is stuck in my head right now." She answers. "Which band did BTS recommend us to? That's a secret but I can tell you that there's a K initial." She says.

   "My soulmate? No, the K is his surname, not first." She smiles. "A question for Hyejin, soulmates initials and age?" Nari asks. "M.L. and 24." She answers. "Favorite Melanie Martinez song? High School Sweethearts." She answers. "Okay, you're hair is done. Let the dye sit for an hour and a half then wash it out." Hyejin tells her.

   "Okay, hour and a half left on live. It's going to be in english now because I saw my moms in the chat and she said she likes the slight American accent I have." She says. "What collections do I have? I have a manga collection, Kpop album collection, Funko Pop collection, and a vinyl collection." She answers. "Favorite color? I like pastel purples, like lavender." She answers.

   "Favorite Harry Styles song? From the Dining Table." She answers. She spends the rest of the time answering questions until her timer goes off. "Okay, I have to go shower and then I'll be going to bed so that I'm well rested for practice tomorrow. I love you all, bye!" She waves, ending the live.

We Asked TXT All About "The Dream Chapter: Eternity", Their Favourite Songs, And Receiving Advice From BTS

It's been a little over a year since Tomorrow X Together — better known as TXT — crashed onto the music scene with their debut single, "Crown". It was an immediate hit (and an undeniable bop), amassing more than 100 million views on YouTube within its first year, and their follow-up single "Cat And Dog", was nominated for a VMA. It doesn't take a genius to understand why the group has had so many eyes on them since the beginning: TXT remain the only act to debut under Big Hit Entertainment since BTS in 2013. Yes, record-breaking, stadium-filling, biggest-group-in-the-world, BTS. In an interview with NME in January, the members acknowledged the privilege such a position has afforded them, while admitting it does come with some pressure. "We know that BTS and Big Hit Entertainment have given us great wings to soar with and also that in order to soar we must bear the weight of our wings," they said.

It seems that TXT have taken that pressure in their stride. They released their first full album, The Dream Chapter: Magic, in October, and spent the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020 collecting Rookie of the Year trophies at all the major Asian music awards ceremonies. Despite their astronomical and unstoppable rise to success, though, their love and desire for connection with their fans is still what shines most. When I ask them about the most memorable moments of their debut year, they cite their performances at New York City KCON, Wango Tango, and their US debut showcase, but they also reference the moment they named their fandom, MOA.

Another thing that's remained consistent in the 15 months since TXT debuted is their music. It's not just the quality (although that is high — I can confidently say I've never listened to a TXT song I didn't like, and I've listened to them all), but the message behind it that brings fans back time and time again. Their new EP, The Dream Chapter: Eternity, continues to explore what it means to come of age, but is undeniably darker than their previous works. The lead single "Can't You See Me?" deals with feelings of alienation and conflict between friends; the music video is reminiscent of a horror movie. It's something every listener will have experienced, and only reinforces the close relationship the members — who, themselves, are between 17 and 20 in age — have with their fanbase.

Over email, I spoke to Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai about the new EP, the momentous year since their debut, and how they, themselves, have dealt with the conflicts they sing about in their music. Here's what they said...

It's been a huge year for TXT! What's the most important lesson you've learned since your debut?

TXT: We learned to be more cautious of what we say and how we act because we now know that we can influence others in the world. We think we’ve become more responsible and that we’re able to keep a more professional mindset. One thing that doesn’t change, of course, is the appreciation we feel for our fans, MOA. In fact, we’re even more thankful now. Our fans are what motivate us to move forward and give our best at everything we do. Thank you for your love and support, MOA!

And what's the most important piece of advice you've received?

TAEHYUN: A great piece of advice we’ve received is from BTS. They told us we should give every performance our all and show the audience what we’re made of. Our attitude towards music is the most important of all.

The concept for your new album, The Dream Chapter: Eternity, deals with a rift between friends. Is that something you've experienced as a team? How have you overcome those challenges?

SOOBIN: Of course, there are times when we don’t always agree on the same topic. When that happens, we try to reconcile the differences and talk it out as a team. We’re used to solving problems together as a team through discussions because we’ve been doing that for years since we were trainees.

You've all been participating more and more in writing and even producing TXT's music. What has that experience been like? What have you learned from each other and your collaborators throughout that process?

HUENINGKAI: Working on “Maze in the Mirror” as a team was a really great experience. I feel like working on this piece as a team really helped me to mature through music, and I’m really glad we got to share our story with our fans through this song.

BEOMGYU: Exactly! “Maze in the Mirror” is really meaningful for us because it talks about everything we’ve gone through as a team. It was great to finally release a song we wrote together for the first time. I even came up with the song’s title myself!

YEONJUN: All our members are consistently working on making music. We hope to continue to make great songs in the future!

This EP includes a remake of a classic Light and Salt track. Why did you decide to include it on the album? What was the process of remaking it like?

YEONJUN: Well, we decided to include it on the EP because the song is a Korean classic; it’s still very loved even though it was released a long time ago, before I was even born. But we did still want to add our own colours to this song, so we decided to include a rap part, which I wrote, as well as new sounds from various instruments such as horns and a capella. We tried to add some dream-pop elements to the original city-pop based song.

Dreams have been a running theme in your music since you debuted. What's one dream you still want to achieve?

HUENINGKAI: It feels amazing to finally achieve the goals of debuting and receiving rookie awards. A dream we’ll always continue to strive for is to continue to make and perform music that will comfort and encourage more people everywhere in the world.

What's your favourite memory from working on this album? Which song was the most fun to write and record?

TXT: Working together on “Maze in the Mirror” was probably our favourite memory because the song is personal to us. We all had our ups and downs, and those moments are reflected in the song. It’s essentially a story about our past two years, so it’s great to finally have it out there.

[It] holds a special place in our hearts because it’s about the time we spent together as a team, and our members all wrote it together. Working on the track was enjoyable because we were able to positively influence and motivate each other. We’re glad we can share this song with our fans!

What is each member's favourite song from the new album?

SOOBIN: “Drama” because I like the bright mood of the song! It goes really well with the choreography.

YEONJUN: “PUMA” because it’s such a powerful song that’s really fun to perform!

BEOMGYU: No doubt, “Maze in the Mirror.” It includes all of our struggles that we’ve gone through as a team.

TAEHYUN: “PUMA” because I love the instruments.

HUENINGKAI: “Can’t You See Me?” because it represents the theme of the EP well!

How would you describe The Dream Chapter: Eternity in one word?

SOOBIN: Versatile.

YEONJUN: Awesome.

BEOMGYU: This is it!

TAEHYUN: Refreshing.

HUENINGKAI: WOW!

And finally, what's one message you want MOA to take away from your new music?

TXT: We really hope that MOA will like the new approach we took for this EP, because we wanted to share something different for our fans. Thank you as always MOA!

drama - good bop with good vibes. 10/10. that’s all i really have to say lmao that’s just what it is. good vibes. gonna blast this while travelling for sure.

can’t you see me? - the mv is awesome and i love the title track. it’s good, i love it. we got the english lyrics and i do love the concept of the mv as well. tbh their best title track so far. crown and run away are good songs but this is definitely the superior one in my opinion.

fairy of shampoo - it’s a chill vibe. the kind you listen to through your phone speaker at 1am dancing in your room. it’s 9:20pm as i write this but i know that’s what i’ll be doing at 1am, when i have classes and work tomorrow oops

maze in the mirror - this is full on slow bop. i felt calm listening to this, like sitting on a rock with your feet in the creek in the middle of summer in the middle of the forest. very calming and will add to the anxiety/panic attack playlist for sure, it’s 100% calm energy and i am here for it.

PUMA - ohoho this is a more hype bop for sure. the trap beat is 👌 still not 100% like hype hype music (like bts’ ugh! for example) but i still really like it. it doesn’t go hard but unless the last track goes harder than this (unlikely) then it’ll be the most hype bop on the album. not that it’s bad, but i definitely would like a song from txt that fucking SLAPS. tbh it doesn’t quite go with their general music style, they usually don’t have hugely rap focused songs but bighit please can we get a very hype track from txt anyways i’ll stop ranting because the song’s finishing now okay next and final song....

eternally - aaaasssssand i’m crying. slow sad vibe (sibe) again, but more delicate. you’d listen to this while stargazing in winter with a warm cup of tea- okay never mind it got like halfway through and picked up- and it’s a slow vibe again just kidding it’s picked up again. hell their duality in this song is just wild. the parts that pick up are kinda like... the kinda badass music that plays when a badass character is walking down the street or in the middle of a fight scene or something, you know? this song goes from sad bitch to bad bitch in two seconds and back again and i don’t hate it. i expected this to be a sibe but instead it shows how i think i am vs how i actually am lmao kinda feel called out but this is a good song

overall an excellent album, have it downloaded and ready to listen to on loop for several hours. my phone is on 5% now and i have been watching the battery drain as i type this all out so i better go. 10/10, well done txt, thank you for the new music :)

1. my ULTIMATE BIAS aka MY HUSBAND FOR LIFE SHOWNU from Monsta X

My original bias in Monsta x was hyungwon. Then hyungwon and wonho. Then hyungwon, wonho, and shownu. Then Wonho and Shownu and now it’s Shownu. For the soul fact I can relate to him a lot and his dancing always amazes me in every way. When I saw him sing all of me in no mercy. I legit had chills and froze cause he just took by breath away when he sang and when he dances to. Just everything captivated me.

2. JB from GOT7

He is my bias for the same reason shownu is my ult. His voice is soo sexy and seductive I love it. His vocals in sunrise are what make me asend in to heaven. His visuals are amazing and plus he loves cats. Ive always been drawn to him and plus he’s been my bias in the group since I stanned them for over a year now so I have a connection to him.

20. Favorite Original Story Idea (Authored by Me): I’ve got 2/3 on my mind right now. (Because I can't pick favorites to save my life.) 

 #1 is Introvert city girl with a fear of dogs and her mom move to a small town where the random dogs out in the woods are bigger than average and a really cute boy takes a sudden interest in her. (spoiler alert--its werewolves. He’s a werewolf. Do you know how hard it is to tell your crush about your furry problem when they're afraid of dogs? Also, add in a mysterious organization that has a problem kidnapping adolescent werewolves and we’ve got ourselves half a plot ladies and gentlemen.)

#2 is about another introvert girl (surprise, surprise) in a zombie apocalypse. It’s been months since she’s seen another human being who doesn’t want to eat her. Her story starts when she happens upon an old radio and while fiddling with it one night, she accidentally tunes into a boys channel where four boys talk to each other. there’s a lot of introverting, reading, dogs, cold weather, dead people trying to eat her, looting, and listening to boys conversations over a walkie talkie that may or may not classify as creepy.

and #3 is just classic noble girl is sent as a spy into the enemy kingdom but everything goes to shit before she even walks in the door. Mission was simple. Be a kitchen girl, poison the King's food and kill him and then escape back home during the confusion. Instead, she gets the honor of becoming the Prince’s comfort woman/concubine after the last girl did an honor killing on herself. So, new mission. Get close enough to the Prince that he tells her information and then send that information back to her country so that they can win the war. (Passing secret information along is a little easier when it's not written down on paper but instead in flower crowns and bouquets as the secret language of flowers.)

Seventeen were actually really important both in getting me into K-pop, and just my life in general and I do still really love their music, even though I wouldn't put them on my top 6 groups anymore. I was lukewarm to starting to get interested in K-pop (and also it was another difficult time in my life. I'm just realizing now that I've been responding to difficult times by getting into new K-pop groups for about four years now) and I'd heard a couple of their songs, and was neutral towards them (I've never really been one for the "cute/bright concepts), but then my brother showed me Healing and everything changed. I just sat down and started crying. That one song from a group I was neutral towards was exactly what I needed to hear at that part of my life. (on a personal note, this is how I realized I needed therapy)

Wow. uh. Yeah that was a little personal, but I want to share my own experience with the artists you like! I guess my relationship with Seventeen is just something special and personal. Anyway. TXT. I knew about TXT from debut, and I thought Crown was interesting, if not the kind of music or concept I'd listen to regularly (and the Nap of a Star m/v was fascinating and completely unexpected), and I guess I was looking somewhere else when Runaway happened? Anyway, then there was Dream Chapter: Eternity. And wow. That was something else entirely. I loved every song from that album. Then I was originally ambivalent toward Blue Hour (with the exception of We Lost The Summer, that song really hit me in the face), and with the Chaos Chapter: Freeze, I decided to start actively following and looking into them. I think that right now, the only reason they're not among my ults is that I'm not familiar enough with them, and I intend to change that in the near future.

As I said in an earlier ask, I'm not really familiar with Sam Kim. I kind of know him by reputation? I know a lot of people like him, and he does seem like a solid artist, but I just haven't really looked into him.

I went into this thinking I would mention Onewe, Purple Kiss, and E'Last all at once, but this ask has already gotten really long just from talking about my relationship with Seventeen and TXT, so I'll just cover Onewe for now, and talk about Purple Kiss and E'Last later.

I first found Onewe through their Parting m/v, around when it came out in mid-late 2020 and wow. The emotional impact was incredible, I loved their voices, and I have a nostalgic soft spot for rock anyway, so it was the perfect song! (also they released a "Halloween version" of Parting, and even that was beautiful) Unfortunately, I didn't really feel like getting into another group when they were first on my mind, so I put off looking deeper for a while, but I did come back to Parting every so often. But then earlier this year, well, if you actively stan Oneus or Onewe, there's a good chance you'll end up at least knowing something about the other (Not only are they under the same company, but they promoted together before debut, and Xion, Oneus's maknae, and Dongmyeong, Onewe's keyboardist are twins! They still show up to each other's activities to support each other, which I just find super sweet). They started showing up in my recommendations more, I listened to all their songs and watched everything with subs from their channel, looked up Oneus and Onewe's debut project, and they were just ult material. They don't have as many songs as other artists who've been around for the same amount of time, but every one of their songs is solid and distinctive, although they do have a consistent sound and some recurring lyrical themes (space and memories take center stage in two title tracks each), but that's to be expected when they write their own songs, with the same few instruments in mind.

I totally understand music helping you through things and I'm glad that you feel comfortable enough to tell me about it. I know it's not always easy to share things that personal but I really appreciate it. It's nice that seventeen was able to help you through that time and that healing could be a bit healing for you. (sorry bad joke) I also appreciate you mentioning your relationship with my groups as well!! It's nice to hear others stories about my favorite groups!!

You mentioned not being one for "bright/cute concepts" and that's mostly what I enjoy lol. I think it really shows how music can be subjective and people can enjoy different songs from artists regardless of their main concept or theme, especially for kpop.

I knew about Oneus and Onewe having twins!! That was one of the facts about the groups that I remembered from the little research I did when Oneus debuted. It's cool that Onewe has a recurring lyrical theme! It makes it feel like they put a lot of effort into their music!! It's always cool when groups write their own music and are able to direct the message their music is giving to people. I guess I like seventeen for the same reason since they make their own music as well.

In order to keep my response relatively short (and so we can have more to talk about over later messages) I'll talk about how I found verivery and onf and save treasure and lucy for later!! These two groups are kinda related because I found them at the same time. As I mentioned in my last response, I was really into trying to keep up with debuts for a while and it just so happened that during that time both verivery and onf debuted. I had seen their debuts and liked them both (they fit the bright concepts) but never got super into either of them. They both fell off my radar after awhile until they participated in Road to Kingdom!!! I was stunned by onf's stages on the show!! You mentioned liking dramatic music and theatrics well that's exactly what their performances were!!! I was blown away and wanted to give their music another listen and I can honestly say, they are BY FAR the kpop group with THE BEST DISCOGRAPHY!! At least in my opinion. None of their songs are a skip for me, I love every single one!! And verivery was more on the softer side but I really like that so I enjoyed their performances, especially in contrast to the other groups who were doing darker themes. Again, I gave their music a second chance and fell in love with it as well. I ended up buying both groups entire album collection in one go and now I'm following their new releases!! By the way, onf is having a comeback next month and I'm SOOOO excited!!! (so is txt)

ATM with Bryan | 23

We’re finally doing this thing… again. Welcome to ‘how to be bryan.’– the reflections and musings of a young professional on a pursuit to educate and live purposefully. What about that intro, though? Haha! Just trying to open this entry in a different manner this time. It has been 3 weeks since I last wrote and published an entry here, and I took some time off from updating the blog to *sort of* absorb the fact that the new year has come. Well, the year started just fine, but there hasn’t been any obvious change if we were to compare it to the previous one.

To those of you who have been reading the blog for years now (and have been here before my hiatus), you may have stumbled upon this ‘ATM with Bryan’ series where I talk about my currentlys. The last time I have written a volume under this series was in 2018, after the 1st semester of my last year in college. Now, I have been off of school for a year and a half now, and a couple of years older. Isn’t that insane? Time flies so fast, indeed. But we’re not here for that, so I’m giving you a list of my ‘at the moments.’

Worlds of You by Beau Taplin. This is Taplin’s second collection of poetry, first published in 2017. (I know) I am years late, and only learned about this during the ECQ after I asked my IG friends to suggest poetry books for me to read. On another matter, it’s also one of my goals this year to read more (poetry) books because I don’t think my schedule can cater novels. *bleeds in metaphor and imagery*

Writing

the 23rd volume of ATM with Bryan, alongside some songs and poems. Just like what I mentioned in my past entries, I’m ~trying~ to go back to my roots. I’m looking forward to rolling out content for the Valentine’s Day which includes *insert a list of planned online gimmicks* and then some. I just feel like now is the perfect time for us to spread love and actually do so.

Listening

to Spotify’s Hallyu Boy Bands playlist. Isn’t it surprising? Well, the old Bryan that you know is gone. *face palm* To my defense (in case you’re confused AF), I’ve always had a diverse taste in music and it just happened that a few weeks ago, I was listening to a random K-Pop playlist when I heard TXT’s CROWN and the chorus just stuck in my head. I knew I had to give in and listen so yeah. #justified lol

Thinking

about how to handle my finances better during this time of the year. This is one of the constant conversation pieces now that I’m a young adult. I started 2020 on a bad note financially by splurging on unnecessary stuff and not realizing that a ~no work, no pay policy~ pretty much exists. I don’t want to make the same mistakes again, but the thing is, I don’t even have money to spend in the first place. So why bother? *insert GCash number*

Smelling

the alcohol scent from my hands. Here’s a reminder for you all to STILL sanitize and follow the minimum health standards. *winks*

Wishing

for motivation to finish all my assigned tasks and activities this week. I’ve always been an intrinsically motivated person as I do things out of love and passion, but the old Bryan is gone. Haha! Not that I don’t love what I do now, I need extrinsic motivation now more than ever, and I think I’d appreciate it in material manifestations. Long story short, hindi talaga sapat ang love lang! *sighs*

Hoping

to be more organized and to have more storage space in my room. I’ve been watching a lot of lifestyle vlogs recently and I’ve seen some creative ways on how to maximize your space. I also hope to declutter my stuff and get rid of the ones that no longer serve my goals and interests for the New Year. The bad thing about it is that I’m sooo sentimental. I don’t just throw my stuff away– not even coffee receipts and movie tickets from years back.

my new set of fave Starbucks drinks! Oh God, I can’t stress enough about how addicted I’ve been to some SB drinks these past few weeks. My top three drinks (on the menu) at the moment were Iced Caramel Macchiato, Iced Chai Tea Latte, and Iced Hibiscus Tea with Pomegranate Pearls, and off the menu, I love the Barista Drink, Pink Drink, and Tiktok Drink. I can def write a whole entry about this but yeah. #coffee_forever_and_ever

Wanting

to meet up with my friends who I haven’t seen in a while. I just thought of this now, and while I have internet friends who I can converse with to vent out and rant, I’d also love to catch up with my friends. Zoom meetings are not enough! Good conversations would be better over good food, so to my friends out there, baka naman. I would need money first, though!

Needing

a new phone or tablet. I was supposed to gift myself a new phone last year but due to money matters and delays, I did not meet my expected budget. Quite frankly, this isn’t an immediate concern as my current phone is still very functional, but for me to fully multi-task and maximize productivity, I need a separate phone for gaming, video editing, and file management.

Feeling

bombarded and mentally overwhelmed. I’m grateful for the work and endeavor that I have right now, but now is also the time when I want to pursue artistic and creative pursuits– just like this blog. I want to work on my passion projects, but the guilt eats me up when I try to set my professional tasks aside. I’ve felt so overwhelmed at times that I end up not doing anything. #jokesonme

Clicking

through some podcasts episodes. I think I’ll write an entry about this soon, so watch out for that. I’ve been consuming a lot of audio content in the form of podcasts, for I have grown tired of the current YouTuber culture of pranks, click bait, and nonsense content. Praise the heavens for podcasts! I have discovered a lot of local podcasters and met people through the podcast community– like the AWJP x SOS Fam.

Moving Sucks!

We made the move to Arizona March 7th. After lots of little bumps we actually closed on the new house March 11th, however we did move in the 8th. I learned quite a bit about the buying and selling of a house and what a pain.

The selling of our home was really the worst part. We found a buyer and then we find out they have actually been in contract 4 times and pulled out. As a seller you immediately start wondering if they are a waste of time. However, we really needed to move forward so we just had to trust the process and keep going. Their real estate agent was a flake and a half and was super slow on returning any phone calls or txt to our agent. They did the inspection the last day of option, they missed paperwork dates and in the end made the date push out by a day. A day doesn’t sound bad but they then refused to close early in the day because they don’t drive during traffic times and with time differences and wire transfer cutoffs we ended up not being able to close till Monday. So between their up and down behavior and my agents lack of communication with anyone besides my husband I was very over this selling process. Take away for me on selling is let your agent go if they are unwilling to communicate with you, put in your contract the buyer is responsible for hotel cost if the closing date is moved out because of them, have your own inspection done prior to listing. We had 2 tiny issues come back on inspection but the stress of waiting for the report I wish i would have gotten my own prior to listing and fixed what was on it for piece of mind. The Buying process has its own set of issues. However, we had an amazing real estate agent and lending team. It’s hard to move across 3 states. The finding a house, getting an offer, accepted and start the process is hard 1100 miles away. We came to AZ 3 times to house shop. First time was a waste for us. We didn’t have our home on the market yet and were a week from listing it. We didn’t realize we needed that to put in an offer out here. I did get to experience Arizona some though which i think was important for me. I saw my dream house be picked up. It was hard since at the end of the day this was our lack of planning and asking questions to a certain extent.

My husband made the second visit. I thought I had found “The House” he came out to see in person and to see a few others. That house was not “The House”, lots of great pictures but the upgrades were not done well poor work done by homeowners. I’m all for diy but they have to be done correctly. You can’t add an extra $30,000 to your home value because you added some rock backsplash and crown molding throughout. The crow molding had so many issues, the house had flooring missing they had painted to match so you couldn’t see on the pics. Also please clean your home. When i see filthy areas i worry that the house was not taken care of and i check out on wanting it. On that visit my husband saw the house we purchased. The real estate agent and him showed up to the property, open the door, and there is water everywhere. Ceiling is falling in, someone had come in turned on all the water and locked all the bathroom doors upstairs and down stairs. There was writing in highliter on a wall upstairs. They call the sellers agent (also the seller),they call the police, and they start opening doors and shutting off water after turning off power to the house. It had been running a max of 24 hours. My husband was shocked because this was the first house he had loved since we lost the dream home visit one. The owner asked how he liked the finishes in the house and my husband said well my wife wanted a white kitchen but other than that it was perfect. My husband flew home a couple hours later and told me that was our home. I was confused I can’t buy a flooded home. The seller removed the home from listing while the insurance claim happened. We continued to look at houses while our home was going into contract.

Trip 3. Once we were out of contingency we went back to Az with the plan to come home in contract. We allowed for a 5 day trip. We had picked homes to see out of the area we wanted in hopes of nailing something down. The house above was 2 days from being finished from “The Flood” as we refer to it and the seller was holding it for us to look at before he put it back on the market. We decided the other areas around Phoenix we could afford were not for us. So we were back to The Copa. The flood house was the first we saw here in Maricopa and it was beautiful. The owner had put in brand new white shaker cabinets throughout the home. Flooring had been replaced, all new paint, new appliances, etc. We placed an offer he had listened so because of that water I was able to get the kitchen I wanted and with the right team we closed in 3 weeks. We were in contract with in 2 days of being in Arizona so we headed home early. Inspection happened quickly and we had to do some back and forth but in the end it worked out well.

As we decorate I will be showing one room at a time. Before, After, and During.
