It's way too late but who cares! Here is my analysis of the Polish translation of the first song from Encanto, Family Madrigal!

Just a headsup, this song is one of the "just good" ones, so dont expect any fireworks like with WDTAB (we'll save those emotions for What Else Can I Do because boy)

*I'll start by noting that I really like how in the og version they made "drawers" rhyme with "floors" and "doors" even though it shouldn't be possible

+ Then again, Mirabel's Polish VA balances it out by having more enthusiasm in her voice when she sings this part than her English predecessor had

+ I have to say I prefer "time for the show" over "let's go", and this is also a good example of when using a macaronism/slang term works really well

-"Here's the family" I know "my family" wouldn't fit but it just sounds weird x)

+ "We're all here thanks to her" I think sounds a little better, sweeter maybe than "She led us here so many years ago"

+ "It's better (for us) with each new day" > "every year"

+ And here I'm conflicted, because "I'll tell what I know from this story" just sounds better to me, like more in character? But it's kinda far from the original "There's just a lot you've simply got to know". Though at the end of it I think I like the dubbed version better

= "And it's okay" instead of "We're on our way" I know it was made to fit the sound of the original but it's a very interesting choice I'm not convinced about

= "This is my family Madrigal" instead of "I'm part of". For me Mirabel's constant assurances that she's part of the family were quite unnatural but I mean, I guess that was the point and part of her characterization/foreshadowing of her problems so

+ Coffe got diminuted into "kawka" <3

*I just wanted to make a note that if you can follow an og line with a dubbed line and it still sounds fine, then you know the translation is good

+ I'm not going to translate the whole line but I think the internal rhymes in the line "her recipes are remedies for real" work even better in Polish

+"It's not a dream, it's something fantastical, somthing magical/It's my family Madrigal" again we loose the foreshadowing but it sounds better

+Okay here are the fireworks I just love how the part about Felix and Agustin got transalted, just, the internal rhymes in "wój mój" and "za to tato" (the use of tato in Nominative is so informal <3) and it sounds even faster than in the original despite having the same if not less syllables it's just *mwah*

*I feel like I should say something about the use of "pocisnę" which is very slang, and "time sheet" (like you have in school) but I don't know what so here

-"Camilo changes (himself)" sadly we don't have a verb to shapeshift 😔

+"Antonio will find out his gift today" instead of "get", I like it, it implies they all already have it and the ceremony only like, outs it (And if you want to go the angsty route, this might've been what made Mirabel think she's talentless, the ceremony didn't out any gift cause she never had any)

-"She makes a flower carpet in seconds" no sass for Mira here

+ "Her brain and lion heart" lion heart <333

-"Look for me in the family Madrigal" I... absolutely don't understand this line

+ I like the use of the word biographical in the og line, but Polish one is more natural, kinda like she's no longer really singing a song, but just speaking normally and fitting into the melody and rhythm simply by the laws of musical

+ English: Julieta, better, arepa; Polish: Julietę, arepę, lepiej

+ Also the town chants "talk aabout yourself, Mirabel!" so again, more direct

-We lose the meta joke about Dolores hearing the chorus

+ Instead of just "what are you doing" abuela uses a stronger word (so not "robisz" but "wyczyniasz")

+ And finally I don't know why but just, Dolores' line is much more funny to me in Polish XD Maybe it's because of the archaic/poetic word order, maybe it's the delivery, but yeah

So generally, even though I've noted out many strong points, these are the kind that I only noticed now during this analysis, so I guess they've added a lot, but still in general it's just, equally good.

CAMILO HCs BECAUSE HES THE BEST (ENCANTO)

okay okay so. camilo madrigal, amirite. (this got kinda long, oops)

i recently watched the movie and HOOOOOOOO BOY

*SLAPS CAMILO’S BACK* THIS BAD BOY CAN FIT IN SO MANY HEADCANONS.

THE MOMENT THE MOVIE ENDED, I HAD SO HCS FOR CAMILO IDC IF HE GOT LIKE 5 MIN SCREENTIME SO I HAD TO WRITE THEM DOWN SOMEWHERE. so my hcs for camilo specifically are these:

- Camilo has an ENTIRE area/space in his bedroom that contains little things he found while he was someone else; am i saying he is a thief? no, i am not. (maybe.) BUT WHAT IM SAYING IS SOMETIMES HE KEEPS THEM OKAY. Or maybe he asks for them politely. like the good kid he is.

- Camilo’s room has SO MANY mirrors (maybe even a WHOLE room of it) and people think its bc hes narcissistic BUT NO. its so he doesnt forget what his true self looks like. because of how frequent he is acting like someone else, somewhere deep down he’s afraid of forgetting himself. so. mirrors

- Adding to the one above, maybe he gave himself a rule that he cant shapeshift into someone else while in his room. 

- ONTO ONE OF MY FAVORITES. (my thoughts is that camilo can somewhat Also attain the person’s abilities/skills) Camilo just has these really RANDOM interests for so many random shit like sewing, drawing, singing, dancing, cooking/baking, writing etc etc. at this point, the madrigal family is used to it and they all indulge him (imagine maribel teaching camilo how to sew, and add isa who teaches camilo how to make flower crowns and then camilo gets this great idea to sew REAL flowers into a piece of clothing hes sewing himself) (maybe isa made the flowers immortal)

- adding to the above, Camilo gets really interested in the randomest hobbies but the THING is... HES BAD AT THEM. SO BAD. LIKE GEN Z TALKING ABOUT EMOTIONS BAD. /LH. anyways what i mean is that everything he does is done AWFULLY, but. but camilo LOVES it. literally adores anything and everything he creates. because you know what? he made these *gestures wildly to badly sewn scarves, overcooked pies, near incomprehensible doodles, and more* HE MADE ALL OF THAT. AND HES SO PROUD OF IT!!!! 

bc it was by HIM and HIM ONLY. made by his inexperienced hands, made by his small hands, made by his unpracticed hands. hes so proud of them because its HIS only, okay?? nobody elses. (at an angle, this is his own way of making sure he still knows himself and can do things not influenced by the people he shapeshifts into.) he loves them all dearly. and keeps them in his room like theyre his trophies and medals of the fucking century.

💙Julieta and agustín are more of the sickly sweet pipeline she will make you food and maybe when you're even in your steak from catching mice for you even though you don't really eat sometimes the food is even poison so you are too sick to take care of yourself. Agustín is accident-prone as you see but that doesn't change the fact that he cares about you he's a lot like his wife in some ways maybe less obsessive so he commonly just plays the piano for you even if you're crying after a punishment or chained up by Casita

💙Luisa very strong but very dangerous it's coming for you even if you try to leave the 

Casita tries to force you to stay here but if you ever follow the rules and play nice 

she's an absolute sweetheart a darling even but it doesn't help because she's the strongest she's often the one that has to bring you home even if you try to Slither away she holds you down by the neck or where she believes your neck is

❤ Abuela it's probably the most tame but also the most dangerous to make angry she is a lot more less stressful on you than the others but that comes with more helicopter parenting if you ever are close to window she's always three feet away if you ever try to get out of the Casita she's always two inches away she's the most dangerous to make angry because she will make sure you get punished

💛Pepa  and Felix the helicopter parenting was Abuela then they are complete watch dogs always watching you always checking up on you always making sure you're okay and that would be nice but wasn't every 5 minutes it comes to the point where you sometimes even hide but they normally know where you are they think it's absolutely adorable that you can transform into this think even more when he tried to bite them normally that leads to Pepa thundering through even though Felix is more laid-back here does have his limits his limits come whenever you try to escape and he doesn't the Show punishment but he does give you a firm talking to where he threatens to break your legs

💛 Dolores the person who can hear everything is possibly the only chance that you'll ever be to normalcy you were never able to truly Escape her she can hear you slithering away she can hear you whenever you stub your toe and you swear and beneath your breath and you expect the girl who knows everything about everyone to actually help you because they might understand you but nope you have to stay here it's scary.

💛 Camilo the light-hearted jokester you have lost all hope of anyone ever letting you escape which also lead you to be kind of depressed and sad so Camilla was there to always cheer you up which was usually than my mocking the victims that they've usually got done rid of he loves it whenever you turn to snake whenever you're scared because it really depends on your mood what type of breed you are she does miss your shenanigans with him whenever you would prank people with him but it's safer for you to stay here and not do anything too dangerous

💛 Antonio he's the less of your worries he doesn't even understand his feelings on the matter he understands you whenever you turn into a snake so that's good or he even lets you pet his pet Jaguar so you would feel better watch me yet again he doesn't really allow you to escape but you can easily overpower him because of how young he is but you would never hurt him if you were given the chance he's the lesser of two evils

💚 Bruno is definitely more of a danger for you he will start doing his Visions again especially when he's accepted back in the family so he can see if you would ever escape so he can plan it out normally the family gives you to him whenever they have to do their normal chores so it's definitely an uphill battle with you and him his hugs are so crushing and tight that you commonly can't even escape and you even fall asleep in them they're not even comforting anymore they're more dangerous especially after you tried to escape multiple times he hate it whenever you turn into a snake he's scared that you might hurt his rats so he often punishes you so you won't really turn into a snake as much otherwise he's completely calm

Becuase Im not very good at getting things finished, but get lots of ideas, Im putting this rough sketch up with an AU idea(infact I have another for Owl House I should do soon too).

I read a fanfic based on a “Tangled” AU and it gave me the idea for this one.

Encanto-Royal AU

In this au “Encanto” is a magic kingdom with a magical royal family. Queen Alma is the matriach living with her entire family. Everyone was blessed with a gift, except for Princess Mirabel.

Its a diffrent kind of distance however regarding Mirabel in this one. Its more overportective. She has no gift and so her grandmother sees her as more vulnerable, as if she were made of glass. And that people would hurt her or use her to get to the kingdom. And so Mirabel is smothered and wrapped up in cotton wool.

Shes almost always shadowed by guards, her sisters and cousins are encouraged to watch over her or make the hard chioces. She finds Isabela annoying becuase shes so smug, still Grandmas favourite and the “older sister”, Isa always saying stuff like Mirabel should try and act more ladylike and listen to her big sister. She thinks Isa is a sneaky tattletale.

Dolores sometimes feels conflicated about telling on Mirabel(able to hear of course if she’s up to things Grandma has not permtited), but is mixed up to think “Its for her own good”.

Shes not even allowed to ride horses, Abuela goes into conniptions thinking she’ll be thrown off or hurt, despite the fact even little Antonio is permitted to do so(BECAUSE like the others he has a gift).

Her parents are still basically good well meaning and perhaps due to worry, a natural instinct to protect, they sort of go along with Abuela’s ways much like the canon movie. They just dont want her hurt.

The only ones to truly see Mirabel as herself are Bruno, Camilo and Antonio(though hes still a little young to understand the situation fully). There the only ones she can really talk to.

Amongst the diffrences, Bruno is not missing, hes been with the family all these years. He had his own pressures as the only son of the Queen, trying to mold him into a future leader, perhaps even a minature version of his father. Pedro was a good man but you cant mold people into a copy of what you want? Its not fair. And of course he dissapionted her with his odd ways and mannerisms(I do believe like a lot of fans Bruno is neuro devergent, on the Autistic Spectrum.) Trying to get him to behave a certian way, pair him up with ladies of court(I also belive canonly he’d be aromantic). But nothing worked and eventually she gave up. In a way he’s lucky, she pretty much leaves him be now. A bit like how yes Mirabel might get ignroed but on the other hand shes not under constant pressure to behave a certain way like the rest of her family? She has more freedom.

He has his own tower but its not a ridiculous million stairs luckily like his movie room :P. Mira Cami and Antionio visit it constantly, Dolores and Julieta occasinaly(usually checking up on Bruno). Others tend to avoid it as its musty and full of Bruno’s rats.

Thats where Mira is right now visiting her Uncle. I dont imagine Bruno likes the clothes they havta wear but only hasta for special events. Otherwise he can go in more comfortable things. I think his ruana is oversized partly due to sensory issues, its for comfort? I myself cant stand the feel of silk or velvet, I cant desrcibe it but it makes my nerves prickle? Or tight clothes, I like loose.

Other diffrences are ages. Noticable ones would be Isabela and Dolores who are 19, Lusia who is 17, and Cami and Mirabel are 12. I suppose the adults would be younger too, at least ten years or so than there canon selves perhaps?

And a lot of the family still has problems. Mirabel might be swaddled but.

Dolores has been dating the stable boy Mariano for two years in secret. They often meet up to talk, books and poetry and such, she loves how kind and gentle he is and he in turn her shyness and sweet nature. BUT, he is a peasant, grandma will never approve of them getting married though thats what they want. Much like the pressures of the film, the “Madrigals” have an image to uphold, havta be a certain way, Dolores will be expected to marry a prince.

Isabela has similiar frustartions, grandma is constantly trying to press eligibale prince’s on her, a bit like Jasime from Aladdin? Except unlike her Isabela cant say or do what she really thinks, she hasta smile and pretend, be the perfect angel. Really she finds them boring stuffy and horrible. And like her film self is sick of being perfect, she really wants to be herself, for that matter, figure out who the real her is. Still Abeulas favoruite she’s eager to get her married off, contuine the royal line and produce great grandchildren.

Luisa with her magnificent strength is part of the Royal Guard, often leading the troops and something of Mirabel’s bodygaurd. She worries constantly over her baby sister, meaning well as anyone else but nevetheless smothering her. However, Luisa does not want to be part of the gaurd. She hates fighting and going into battle, understanbly its scary and stressful? She has a gentle girlish heart and would rather do things the other ladies do. Walk through the gardens, tea partys, dances, pretty dresses, all the things they get to enjoy, she actually likes all that stuff. But does not get to innact in such things very much at all(infact very little.)

Something will come along of course to open up eyes to everything going on, and make a change for the better, so everyone is healthier and happier. As to what, well, nothings set in stone yet. Though there are a few inklings in my head, such as Mirabel accidently revealing secrets, or running away, or captured. Like what they were so worried about happened anyway and heck they pushed her into it? They overprotected her that she ended up running and in danger? Heck if she just left, and they didnet know where she was, how would they know shes safe? Creating the problem they were trying to avoid by being TOO much.

If anyone would like to see doodles on this, well... Well sometimes I wouldent mind if people asked cuz, I feel like “I wanna draw summin on this... But no ideas”. So sometimes I would apprieciate a suggestion. But im also fickle and like “Ohh I have enough going on my brains gonna burst” XD Any creators out there Im sure you know that conflicting feeling? You woke that morning and your hair looked like a rats nest. Usually, you slept as an animal so that you could change back and look nice in the morning, but you forgot to last night.

You got up and tugged a brush through your curls. They were tangled up in knots and brushing them gave you a headache.

You put it up and started on your makeup to find that your favorite mascara was all gone.

You pulled on your orange ruana to find a tear in it. You groaned.

I just woke up and the day already sucks. I better find another one so that I can get food before Camilo and Carlos eat all the food. I know I have another one in here.....

You dug through your closet but couldn't find your extra ruana. You sighed and pulled out a dress that you hadn't worn yet because you liked matching your brothers. You hated wearing dresses as pants allowed for more movement and freedom, while dresses were confining and tight.

You went downstairs to get breakfast to find that your brothers had eaten most of the food.

It's fine, I'm fine, I'll just ask Tia if she can make something for me.....

Julieta wasn't in the kitchen. She was put in the town, giving people her healing meals.

You were walking to go out the door when you heard your Abuela's voice.

Julieta was in the center of town, giving people her healing food. By the time you had gotten to her table, you had tripped three times, been stopped by about 20 children, and hit in the head with an apple. You were ready to go to bed and not get up. You went up to her to see that she was giving the last person in line her last arepa. She saw you walk up and her face filled with regret.

"Lo siento, mi sobrina. That was my last one. Do you want to come with me to Casita and I can make something for you?"

You sighed and nodded with relief.

"That would be great, Tia"

She grabbed you by the arm and pulled you to the Casita. On the way there, you had tripped four more times and twisted your ankle. As your Tia helped you up, you brushed off your dress.

"Ay, Y/N! I'm starting to think your as accident prone as Augustin!"

"Yeah. I guess I'm just not watching my feet today."

You tried to laugh it off, but on the inside, for no reason in particular, her comment stung. She helped you to the kitchen and let you sit down while she baked. She finished a small plate of arepas and gave them to you. You only had time to eat one before a child called your name outside. You begrudgingly got up, your scrapes and twisted ankle healed by the arepa you did eat.

"Thanks, Tia. I'll finish these later."

"Bye, Y/N! Be safe!"

Your day went downhill from there. You weren't able to finish your chores until it was time for dinner, your boyfriend couldn't keep you company, you couldn't find your brothers and it seemed that you would blow up at the drop of a hat.

By the time you were able to get home, dark clouds covered the sky and rain was coming down. Your Mami was waiting by the door for you, a nervous expression on her face. She finally noticed you and you tripped in a puddle. She rushed over to help you up, but you brushed past her.

"Y/N! Are you alright? I've been so worried! I haven't seen you all day!"

You held back from yelling at her, not wanting to make the situation worse. You walked into the house, not wanting to talk to anyone. They were all waiting for you to get home so that you could do dinner with them, but you just walked past them.

Camilo and Carlos got up but stepped back a bit when they saw your face. You turned back to face them, tears in your eyes.

"DOES IT LOOK LIKE I'M ALRIGHT, CAMILO?! NO, I'M NOT ALRIGHT! IN FACT, I WISH I WAS DEAD!"

Horror filled your face as you realized what you just said. Tears ran down your face as you turned away from them and ran up the stairs to your room. You heard them call out your name but you slammed the door before they could get to you. Casita made the door disappear from sight and you sunk onto your bed.

You had sat on your bed for about an hour when you decided you needed fresh air. Not wanting to go out yet, you turned into a bird and flew to a clearing that you used when you needed to clear your thoughts.

Dolores heard the flapping of your wings and told Camilo and Carlos.

"She left the house, hermanos. She's in the clearing."

They thanked her and left to go comfort you. They knew where the clearing was because they often had to find you for things. You heard them rustling the bushes nearby and looked up to see them making their way over to you. You weren't still crying, but seeing them made a new wave of tears start. They both rushed over and enveloped you in a hug.

"Oh, hermana. You'll be alright. We've got you."

You cried into their shoulders and they just hugged you and whispered comforting words to you.

After a few minutes, Carlos grabbed you by the shoulders.

"Y/N, what happened today?"

"A lot of things. I just couldn’t do anything right today. I had a panic attack, I'm having another one right now, I tripped at least 10 times, I couldn't find you guys or my boyfriend to keep me company, my ruana ripped so I had to wear my dress today, I dropped a bunch of things, I accidentally scared some children, I yelled at you guys, I made Mami worried, I-"

Carlos cut you off. You were getting close to hyperventilating, breathing quickly and heavily.

"It's ok, Y/N. You don't need to relive your entire day. You already went through it. You don't need that right now."

You nodded as your breathing slowed down. They both hugged you again until you fell asleep, exhausted from the day. They noticed your quiet breaths and smiled down at you. Camilo turned into Luisa and picked you up in his arms and carried you back to Casita. As soon as he came in, your door reappeared on the wall so that he could put you in your room. He set you back down on your bed and Carlos got a plate of food for you. He put it down on your desk and wrote a note that said it was for when you got up.

Okay this one‘s going to be long and I really apologise for it.

So. I‘m an ace aro who grew up in a immigrant family where things such as sex and romance weren’t really talked about because „we“ wait till marriage. I never really realised i was "missing" something, because of that

Fast forward, I was 14 when I found out about fandoms and comfort characters. My first fandom was Percy Jackson and I remember I had a big crush/squish? On Percy

When I was 17 I found out I was asexual and was okay with it. No real problems, I had my comfort characters (who where 17/18 just like me)

When I was 19 I found out I was aromantic. Now that one was tricky. And I still have issues accepting it because of my family and being seen as a „failure“ just because I don’t want a S.O

My favourite characters were a HUGE comfort and still are. Cause if they don’t have a SO, it’s okay if I don’t have one right?

Now onto my question, cause the background information was important to understand my struggle.

I always grew out of my fav. Characters. Like with Percy Jackson, when I turned 18 I was like, he’s still 16, he doesn’t have the struggles like I have so I got new favs my age.

But the most important thing is: I never liked my faves romantically or sexual. I just loved them and still love them like I do a Family member. So even if I still find comfort in Percy jackson he’s like a brother to me.

I just recently watched encanto and it really hit me (big family, kind of toxic sometimes, all that buzz) and I realised that this Camilo dude was my favourite. (I always had a soft spot for the goofball so it’s no surprise tbh) and I didn’t know his canon age until I googled it. I‘m Honest, I didn’t watch any trailers or anything beforehand so I just assumed he’s some kind of older cousin in his 20s

When I found out he’s 15 I was like, okay, not my usual comfort character because of the age, but well, I still love him like a friend (again, I don’t experience sexual or romantic attraction)

And then I saw many and I say MANY post talking about „these weird ass young adults simping for a literal CHILD and calling him hot and drawing him so weird!! Like wtf if wrong with u???“ ( I def. agree with the hot part and the weird drawings don’t get me wrong! It IS weird!!) but I still feel kind of hurt because I DONT see him in any romantic/ sexual way but I know everyone else will think that i do

And now I genuinely don’t know what to do! Cause now I’m 20 and it’s SO hard to find any characters my age who DONT have a S.O or sex. And this Is a whole new struggle cause with child characters, there rarely is any romantic let alone sexual tension so I prefer to find comfort in them rather than in older people cause they don’t get sexualised you know?

I know I could just read ace/aro books. But first of, I'm in the closet and do not plan on coming out anytime. and second.. it just limits everything. Most of the time the whole struggle of the book is the sexuality of the person. Why can't it hust be a fantasy book without anything? I remeber i read a young adult novel and i was so happy, i was like FUCK YEAH she's 25 I love it! and then BAM! 20 pages of smut. It ruined the whole book and I hate it so much that I feel so disgusted by it. and then again, I read a YA book (16-18) it still feels weird cause i don't really identify with them either? these are literal children and it's just weird.

the two sides of encanto are definitely just julietta’s side of the family being under constant pressure and pepa’s side of the family trying to help everyone else feel better and just about communication and connection you know?

julietta has to heal and obviously there’s a lot of pressure on her to be perfect because she’s literally dealing. with. lives. the woman goes through a LOT like all that cooking every. single. day. and having to be there no matter what. and she’s done this since she was super young so its just hdnshskdgej considering the fact that abuela probably told her to work faster and make more food and just generally put a lot of pressure (even though she wasn’t trying to) on her since a young age.

isa’s and luisa’s pressure is clearly stated in the movie where isa’s trying to live her life according to someone else’s rules just so she can be perfect while luisa’s trying to lift every weight around her. like their mother, both of their gifts include giving.

mirabel on the other hand struggles with the constant pressure of trying not to mess up when everyone around her clearly expects her to. she’s the other ticking time bomb of the madrigal family and the poor girl just wants to be included and loved but people wont treat her the same. later on she’s facing the pressure of not messing up and the prophecy makes it worse.

augustine on the other hand, is different. he’s constantly showing everyone that its okay to mess up and be a little clumsy which makes him the perfect partner for julietta (the fact that they’re complete opposites goes deeper but seriously they’re freaking adorable) and the perfect dad for their girls. he knows messing up is okay and is great for the family.

pepa’s side of the family wasn’t discussed that well in encanto but like it’s obvious with them too how their theme is healthy communication.

pepa’s gift stemmed from her emotions and its so obviously clear that she feels a lot of emotions but unlike other people her emotions have a outward impact of her surroundings. who wants to bet that she wasn’t belittled for feeling things that other people were allowed to feel or that she wasn’t regarded as too much or too dramatic or inconsiderate. she’s always told to keep calm and this can’t be having a good effect on her mental health because she literally has to tailor her emotions to fit other people. instead of being offered clear communication and helping her feel better everyone else just tells her to stop feeling anything but happy WHICH IS SO UNFAIR her mood swings are okay they just dont know how to handle them

FELIX ON THE OTHER HAND WOULD NEVER. felix is always. and i mean ALWAYS there for pepa and he’s constantly trying to make her feel better or validating her emotions and just overall letting her be. he never treats her different and doesn’t regard her gift as a problem. he’s so supportive and amazing and i just LOVE felix.

One of my favorite things to think about is him sneaking up and poking someone, shifting quickly into someone else and just shrugging when the person he poked turns around.

Of course he messed that up one time by actually speaking once he shifted, giving himself away, since his voice doesn’t change when he shifts 😭 YOU LIVE AND YOU LEARN 🤝

Camilo is a little goblin, and he’s full of ruthless energy, so there’s no doubt in my mind that he would go ALL OUT on whoever his victim is. Tackling them to the ground, going for all the worst spots, and showering teases like “you’re so LOUD!!” “What could possibly be this funny?!” Or “would you hold still?! I’m trying to fix something!”

And if the lee was stronger than him? No problem! He’ll just shift into someone bigger and keep going!

And if he knows the lee gets flustered at a specific person tkling them? Guess what! He shifts into them! “Open your eyes ___!! Look who it is!!”

He absolutely loves bothering Isabela and Dolores with tickles. Isabela because she has a really funny, out of character laugh that Camilo finds entertaining, and Dolores, because he feels proud of himself when he can get to her without her hearing him first

1. Who's your favorite historical figure ?

this is really hard because i have a different one almost every month lmao some figures i've been fascinated by in the past have been louise michel, samora machel, robespierre, victor serge, camilo cienfuegos, simón radowitzky, flora tristán and enheduanna. For the sake of the question i'm gonna say Mariano Moreno my beloved.

2. What's your favorite historical subject ?

this could mean a lot of things, I'm gonna try and answer in different ways. In general terms anything to do with microhistory and alltagsgeschichte. If we're talking about frames with which to understand history, then class struggle. Topics I enjoy the most are revolutions, history of religion, anything to do with political domination through religion, and then mythology and how it expresses society. If it's specifically about places and times I really like Indian history, history of the precolonial Americas (i like mesoamerica the most), early contemporary french history (IM SORRY), classical (mostly greece but i like roman history too), ancient egypt and above everything ancient mesopotamia. i like sumer the most but it's all cool as shit

6. What's your favorite piece of historical fiction (book, film, series, etc) ?

oof there's a lot to choose from. lets say black sails. oh about books i really cannot recommend ursula k le guin's lavinia enough

7. What's your favorite song dealing with history / your favorite piece of historical music ?

this is a fascinating question off the top of my head i cant think of any song dealing with history?? or rather the few i can think of i dont like very much. also from what point can something be considered historical music? are the beatles historical music? anyways if it counts i'm gonna go for leon rosselson's song of the old communist it makes me cry every single time

14. What's the closest object related to history around you right now ? Books don't count, because it's too easy !

i have a volcanic rock from pompeii that i brought back with me from my trip to italy! i treasure it look at that tiny rock it's so important. also my tiny miniature guillotine, it gives me life

1) a song that changed you?

I.....don’t know?? I’m going to say Believer by Imagine Dragons because it’s awesome and I think it hits pretty close to everything that’s happening recently (actually I think it was written because of what’s happening recently), also El Aguante by Calle 13 because it’s so true??? And I feel especially in sync with that one because Calle 13 is a latino group and I’m latina too so even if I know that it is about humans in general I still feel like it’s especially directed to latinos, also when my friend told me about Take Me to Church’s meaning

But also I’m going to just tell u some songs that have special meanings for me just because of the feels: Luna by Juanes, Ciega, Sordomuda by Shakira, A Dios le Pido by Juanes, Latinoamérica by Calle 13 ft Totó la Momposina (because I can)

2) can you speak in any languages aside from English?

Yup, spanish (which is my first language), english (which I’ve been studying since I was like 3 y/o), and I recently (aka in february) started learning french (so I can present myself, other people, ask easy questions, and I know like 6 verbs + conjugations)

3) do you have a favourite inside joke? Can you explain it?

“Los restrooms!” aka that one time my mom, aunt, uncle, cousin, and I went to Disneyland but only my cousin and I knew english (basically everytime someone needed a restroom we would look around until we saw a sign that said “restrooms” and we would be like “this way! there is a sign that says restrooms!” so my mom, aunt and uncle learnt that restroom was baño (bathroom/restroom) and when they needed one they would say “donde hay un restroom??” (”where is the restroom?”) and eventually my cousin and I started doing it too and we would just say “miren! allá hay restrooms!” (”look! there are restrooms that way!”))

4) your psychic knows when and how you’ll die. Do you want her to tell you?

Heck no I’ve read enough greek myths to know that shit ain’t a good idea

5) would you ever even see a psychic?

maybe.....?? Like, out of curiosity and maybe if I asked an inocent enough question but I know it would probably still be a bad idea and I would be terrified as hell  (it would be interesting tho)

7) #1 grammar pet peeve?

tbh my grammar is so fucked up and I don’t even know what is grammar at this point of my life (I mean, I know that I know but like, I can’t remember or pinpoint “this is grammar”) but, in spanish we always say “they and me” “rachel and I”, we always put ourselves last like, when you are talking about something you did with someone we say “Camilo y yo” (“Camilo and I”) or “Las Saras, Morales, Ashley, y yo” (”The Saras, Morales, Ashley, and I”) so when someone says “Yo y Sara” (which in english would be like “Me and Sara” and would be okay but in spanish its not and !!!! why??????) it makes me so uncomfortable like, it’s a rule guys!!! everyone learns that like in first grade!!! why cant you use it?? it exists for a reason?? why

Also I know I dont use commas sometimes or tildes (accents, like, exclamación, título, canción, that little ´ on the vocals) but my messages are still readable so it fucks me up when people write so bad that even I, who can decipher most messages, can’t understand what the fuck did they write

8) what’s something you do that bothers people but you won’t stop doing?

um.....swear maybe? I know it makes my mom go mad but I like it a lot (and I mean I can stop but still I feel like swearing makes me, me) so yeah. Also being messy, my mom hates it with her life (I got it from my dad)
