My new favorite thing on tumblr.com is the discourse around how hard it is to leave the order you guys, they leave their members ‘with no life skills’ etc etc, ONLY THE CLOTHES ON THEIR BACKS, it’s so darlingly melodramatic that I’m low-key picturing some kind of ritualistic drumming out ceremony, possibly involving the knights chanting ‘shame,’ ‘shame,’ ala game of thrones, while every single council member gazes down upon them from on high, faces carved from judgmental stone, culminating in the poor sod spending their first night in rags sleeping at the foot of the temple steps,

okay, I am getting distracted. What I’m actually amusing myself with is picturing what Ahsoka, 16 years of age, can put on her CV. It’s a lot. Now I hate CVs so like I’m not about to write up hers but. It includes military command, references from at least two GALACTIC SENATORS who worked with her, references from at least two HEADS OF STATE. Engineering, piloting, teaching, combat, military command, special ops, investigation, geo-politics....... She is 16. This is an objectively insane CV.

Her level of education is so respected that a head of state invited her to guest lecture at their top academy when she was 14, to kids her own age, and she was poised and confident throughout. Her schooling gets outright called out as privileged by her coruscanti friends. Also like, please let me know when the standard US high school curriculum comprehensively covers shit like astronavigation.

Every time she is depicted with non-jedi kids her age she is depicted as generally more worldly and prepared than them. The mandalorian kids. Lux, Trace, etc. She’s never encountered deathwatch or the Pikes directly before she’s rescuing her friends from them, but she immediately knows what’s up because she is simply. Well informed. Unlike her friends. It’s not like she doesn’t also learn things from them in these episodes, but. She just knows a lot.

She also left the order with at a minimum multiple contacts in the senate, a friendship with the king of Mon Calamar (I think?) and the duchal family of mandalore, as well as some shadier contacts.

(Now it’s true that tcw never answered, or even asked, what kind of financial or otherwise situation the temple itself provides to help a jedi who wants out to find their feet. That’s not a question you can ask in Ahsoka’s case without also asking: where the hell was Padme’s support? Why wasn’t Ahsoka sleeping on her couch? That’s her sister-in-law! Actually this is a trick question because Ahsoka tells Anakin she needs to figure this out on her own. Without the council, and without him. So we’ll never know. Until disney churns out yet more content that may or may not contradict previous content.)

(Absolute props to Ahsoka that is 100% what I would have done at 16. That’s just what being 16 is like. Bad things happen and then GOODBYE I AM PUTTING A SANDWICH IN A HANKERCHIEF AND TYING IT TO A STICK AND WALKING INTO THE SUNSET I AM GOING MY OWN WAY I WILL SLEEP ROUGH I WILL GO WHERE THE WIND BLOWS THIS WORLD IS STRANGE AND CRUEL AND I MUST RELY ON MYSELF GOODBYE)

(and obviously like canonically the door was 100% open to her returning, anytime she saw them they were like so... any chance you’re done with your walkabout?... we still have your room ready... your frog grandpa feels so bad he literally had a bad trip vision quest where you were like dying and asking him why he abandoned you and we had to commit him he is very sad. except maybe we’re not actually going to say this because that would sound like a guilt trip.. but... lightsabers ? :3)

(Generally the disaster lineage are a deeply ridiculous dataset. When Obi Wan was contemplating leaving the order he was contemplating becoming the Duke-Consort of Mandalore. Anakin not only married money but was offered a job by the Chancellor at 12 (comics). I mean ANAKIN RUN but also imagine being 12 and the president of the galaxy says well if you don’t like it with your dad I’ll give you a job)

Ultimately when Ahsoka left she tripped and fell into job as a mechanic, immediately found herself bailing her new boss out of trouble, and was headhunted like a week later to be on the command team for a counter coup of a whole system. She was still 16. The rest of us can only aspire to these kinds of job opportunities.

i’m insane about villain lizzie and after listening to viva la vida on repeat I decided she deserves to be a corrupt monarch <3

“lizzie.”

lizzie turns to the voice, half startled out of her thoughts. it takes a moment for her to realise that martyn is knelt at her feet, head bent, but she recognises the stance immediately—ren once knelt to her in the same way.

in a rush, she understands the situation at hand: martyn will offer his allegiance, and lizzie will accept it. martyn—and jimmy, once martyn has recruited him—will protect her from anything that seeks to harm her, and lizzie will offer him the memories he wishes to relive. at least, that’s what martyn thinks the situation is.

but lizzie has had enough of being a pawn in someone else’s fantasy. she knows far more than martyn expects, and lizzie intends to use her upper hand to hurt. after all, it’s not like she and ren never talked.

“martyn.” lizzie takes satisfaction in the iciness of her own voice.

martyn doesn’t say anything to suggest that he has been affected by her coldness, but his knuckles whiten around the sword he grasps. lizzie smiles. “it was through mine and jimmy’s actions that your untimely death took place. we know we can never give your life back, but we humbly offer you our unyielding loyalty, and ask for your forgiveness.”

lizzie doesn’t speak for a long moment, waiting for martyn to tremble against the hard floor. she always made ren get up before the stones in the pathway to the fairy fort cut too deeply into his knees, but all of a sudden, lizzie finds she takes interest in the pain—obvious in the slight tremors that run through martyn’s body as he struggles to keep himself upright.

“there is something you could do.” she says at last. “you could die for me.”

martyn’s half-stifled gasp is pleasantly sharp with fear, and lizzie finds herself enjoying it. who knew? she could get used to this undying loyalty business.

“but,” lizzie continues. “that wouldn’t do me much good. other than entertainment, of course.”

still kneeling, martyn remains silent. huh. lizzie could get used to this.

“i’ll accept your offer.” lizzie decides, and some of the tension in martyn’s body drains. “on one condition.”

“yes, my- queen.” martyn’s voice is strained, hitching for barely a second. it’s almost as if he was about to say ‘my king’, lizzie muses.

how ridiculous.

“joel is not harmed.” all traces of amusement leave lizzie’s voice, and she can practically hear martyn’s face pale.

martyn pauses for a fraction of a moment. “understood, my queen.”

“rise.” lizzie says, turning so her back is all martyn can see.

lizzie can hear martyn stand, the quiet wince at the cuts he undoubtedly gained from that transaction, the following silence as he collects himself. incidentally, lizzie had turned in a way that means she is directly facing joel’s fairground. funny, how these things work out.

“is jimmy with you?” lizzie asks.

“I will tell him, my queen.” martyn says. “if he is not already, he shall be soon.” his tone suggests that this is more than a fact; it’s a threat.

lizzie smiles humourlessly. martyn was always one for the theatrics, wasn’t he? “good.” she tells him. “you may go.”

she hears martyn pause, and then turn, beginning to walk away. glancing over her shoulder, lizzie calls out to him.

“martyn.”

martyn stops abruptly and turns almost at once. lizzie almost laughs.

“you seem to be an adequate knight.” lizzie tells him. “thank you, hand.”

the reaction is immediate and immensely satisfying. martyn flinches at the name, involuntarily. his eyes meet lizzie’s, and she can see the exact moment he spots that shine of mirthful malice in her own—the exact moment he realises she has absolutely no intention of playing along with him. lizzie knows every weak spot, every chink in martyn’s armour, and she is entirely prepared to exploit them for her own benefit- for her own amusement. it’s a warning, of sorts. a warning that, if he ever crosses her, she will do something far worse than killing him.

she will break the laws of time and space to make martyn watch her kill the person he loves most right in front of him.

So I wanted to talk about how Anya is clearly traumatised because of her telepathy and how it has probably given her more grief and pain than anything else. Like yes there are occasions when she enjoys what she hears and has used it to her advantage (she wouldn’t have gotten a spy dad and an assassin mom if she didn’t use her telepathy after all) but this week’s episode highlights the fact that she already has a rough idea of what will happen when someone finds out about her telepathy or even has an inkling that she’s not a ‘normal’ kid and it is anything but positive.

Remember how in the first episode Anya notes that she will have to leave Twilight/Loid if he finds out she’s a telepath and there’s a flashback showing how the scientists at the lab/facility were the ones that first planted that notion into her head?

I’m sure that her abusers’ words were enough to deter her from revealing her secret but it’s also important to note that Anya was adopted and returned four times. Meaning, that she was confronted with the reality that her abusers were right not just once, but four times.

And if this scene is any indication, Anya's astute perceptiveness has freaked out at least one set of adopters and led her to being shunned and subsequently returned.

That would be enough to traumatise any child but to someone who was already warned (possibly multiple times) that her power must be kept hidden? It makes sense why Anya is as desperate as she is to make sure that no one finds out that she’s a “freak” or a “witch”. She already knows and has felt the consequences of that over and over.

It also makes this scene in episode 4 a lot more devastating in hindsight because Anya just managed to find a family that hasn’t tossed her out because of her abnormalities yet. She doesn’t want to lose a place so warm and loving. Not when she’s so close to the perfect family life that she so dreamed of.

That’s why this week’s episode is so good for Anya’s self-confidence/self-worth and emotional/mental wellbeing. Not only did the heroic deed that she used her ability for give her public praise and recognition-

-but it also gave her private recognition and praise.

Like, there was absolutely no need for the Forgers to keep up the pretense here. The boy’s family already drove off and there was no one around them so there was absolutely no need to praise her anymore. But they did it anyway.

And man, the fact that Anya is able to read their minds here and see that they are genuinely proud of her is just icing on this sweet sweet cake.

She now realises that her power can be used to help people. That maybe it won’t just give her pain and grief. That maybe it can do good.

And looking at her being so happy about it makes me very emotional and I’m so glad that the beginning of Anya healing from her trauma was done in such a heartfelt way.

This little girl is so strong for dealing with what she has dealt with (and continues to deal with) till now and I can’t wait to see the rest of her journey.r

Cool, calculated, cunning. These are all words that describe Shin Hati, and they’re likely what people think when they first meet her.

But under that, under her shell, she’s lonely, confused, and tired. As a child she likely had to hide her force sensitivity, until the Empire fell. Baylan was perhaps, all she had. Now she’s alone, finding her place in the Galaxy again… and I think she’s searching for a new sense of belonging. A sense of self.

I think Shin Hati would love to sit by a roaring ocean, looking out the window of a beachfront home, gently petting her (and Sabine’s) loth cat, enjoying the tranquility.
