Happy Wednesday prompt!

I sent you a prompt las week so I hope it's ok if I send another one but if not, it's all right, here it goes:

If mastery over shadows is a Trueblood ability, what would the Lightwood one be? And what if Alec got that one instead of his shadows? Or Izzy? What if Alec had a mix of both?

i got a double and that was absolutely fine! tumblr and the net can be very annoying menaces when they work together against people.

it's fine to send prompts every week! there's no restriction on it or anything. i really just answer them when i have time/the right mood for the prompt.

i hope you enjoy this au of star eater (sentient alec trueblood au) and the answer is cold fire. flames so cold they crack the wood into shards of ice sharper than glass or diamonds.

misunderstandings/unreliable narration. this is very much an au so basically when bby!alec breaks, his lightwood powers show up instead of the shadows

Robert Lightwood dies with an expression of terrified shock frozen on his face, before he falls and shatters into a thousand shimmering pieces.

Alec stares at the remains of his father and feels nothing but numb relief. The terror of his door being forced open, of not having anywhere to hide from his father's angry disappointment— not when Robert used his stele to unlock the door — and Alec now just feels numb.

Numb and cold and it’s with a sluggish curiosity that he lifts his right hand and stares at the silver flames on his fingers. They’re small and cold, almost bitter and Alec remembers the image of flame.

He wonders why he ever assumed the Lightwood’s fire would be warm in any way, even in color.

It's days later that Alec says goodbye to his mother and he feels as cold and as detached as the flames dancing in his core.

Alec could go with her. He could claim her as his parent and be taken in by her but Alec doubts that’s what she wants. She has a chance now, to actually be happy and Alec will be fine. Izzy needs a parent and Maryse loves her, that will never be a problem.

So, Alec steps back from his mother and he keeps his face cold, like he learned from watching her get ready for meetings or when she stepped away from Izzy to face him.

“The Lakecastle’s are going to come help you, okay?” Maryse tells him again and Alec tries to memorize her face, wondering if he’ll ever see it again. He doubts it, there really won’t be a reason for Maryse to want to see him after this and she’ll probably want to keep Izzy safe and protected and away from Alec.  After all, Alec can’t put Izzy first anymore and he can’t die to protect her like Maryse wants anymore.

It makes complete sense to Alec, but Maryse seems horrified by how practical he’s being. Like she didn’t expect Alec to be aware of the fact that he’s a child born of politics and bloodlines and that his existence is no longer Maryse’s problem. All of which, when he quietly explains it, seems to make Maryse grow more and more upset.

Which Alec supposes makes sense.

Nobody ever remembers how much Alec knows, how much he sees while he’s ignored and forgotten. The shadows have always hidden him, for all that they don’t let Alec melt into them, no matter how much he wishes he could. Sometimes, it feels like the shadows cling to him and Alec wonders if they want him to be a part of them as much as he does.

They aren’t though, so Alec can’t rely on them and while his mother’s reaction confuses him, it doesn’t confuse him enough to back down. Alec has leverage now and while he can’t completely protect himself — he’s not big enough yet and his powers too new — he can make it so that he’s safe and defended and unfortunately, that means mother has to leave.

The fire changed things between them. Not in all bad ways though and the shadows of Alec’s room twist and dance in the cold light of his flames as he practices, and Alec feels like that will be enough. His mother and sister will be gone, Trueblood’s once more and his father is dead. Alec is the last of his line with the powers he was bred for, and he wonders if this is what the Lightwood’s really hoped would come of their line.

“Yes, I know.” Alec agrees, because Hirune Lakecastle is an Elder shadowhunter who only retired to train her daughter, Mirai. Both volunteered for the position of guiding Alec and training with him, and he considers it an honor to be so well taken care of.

“If you need me—” Maryse starts to say and Alec scowls.

“I won’t.” He assures her, because he doesn’t need the worry of his mother pretending to care about him. Alec was the price of her marriage and probably a few other things and Alec — after reading through the betrothal papers — thinks he understands better why his mother hates him.

And she has to hate him, because why else would she and father have treated him like they did if they didn’t hate the duty Alec was born from.

It’s better this way, to let her forget about the heir she had to have and focus on the child she actually wanted.

Omg, 1 through 26? That's a lot. Okay. Here we go. This got really long. I hope you enjoy!

Character Questions: Sephiroth

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Right off the bat, my favorite thing about Sephiroth is definitely how surprisingly soft his character actually is. Like, I've been eating well with the release of Ever Crisis, since it confirms a lot of how I've always written Sephiroth. As for dislikes... Let's see. I dislike how inherently tragic his character actually is? Like, that sounds odd, coming from me, an angst queen, but I mean it more... He really never stood a chance. I usually love angst for my characters, but often because they've done it to themselves? Sephiroth is heartbreaking because of what's been done to him rather than because of anything he's specifically done. And no, I'm not discounting Nibelheim or anything. I don't want anyone to read this and walk away thinking I think that I... I don't know. Don't think Sephiroth was responsible for anything. Of course he is. He's a villainous character, and he goes completely mad and falls. That's the entire point. But his madness and his fall itself is inevitable within the canon of the game. His character is a relatively innocent one who lacks almost all agency, and when he finds out why, he completely loses himself in being the monster that they've created. Like, to be perfectly honest, is it a surprise that so many fangirls glommed onto him, hotness aside?

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

I love how his canon materia set up is as follows: Masamune Materia Slots: Revive Restore Earth = All Fire = [empty spot] Gold Armlet Materia Slots: Ice = All Lightning = All Like. I love that he has a restore and a revive? And an open slot? I don't know. It's just fun to think about.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

His fixation on Cloud. Like, don't get me wrong, I do completely understand it. I just don't like it. I can recognize that canon has made a decision that I personally disagree with.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Ooh, any other media... Honestly? This is going to sound weird, but I'd put him in FF8. I think he'd fit right in with the SeeDs, and almost none of them have parents either, so it would just be... normal.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

We both suck at making friends. We both got like, two of them and were like, "well, here we go. Our entire sense of self-worth hinges on these two people. Hope nothing happens to them. (:" In all seriousness though, I am extremely bad at making friends. And Sephiroth clearly is too. So. SOLIDARITY BBY.

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

I love when fandom puts him in just... normal situations. I love seeing Sephiroth cook or run in the morning or go to the gym or really anything besides being effortlessly perfect. I like seeing his humanity under there. Probably because he rejects it so thoroughly after Nibelheim.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

Well. I don't click on these fics anymore because it's just easier to not engage than it is to deal with my feelings about it, but I hate when fandom just reduces Sephiroth to purely his post-Nibelheim state? Like, I'm aware that part of it is because that's the timeline most people are writing in. And in that case, go right ahead! Do your thing! But if you're writing pre-Nibelheim, you need to contend with who he was before that event.

9. Could you be roommates with this character?

I suspect I am not a tidy enough individual to be roommates with Sephiroth. I think he would be extremely particular.

10. Could you be best friends with this character?

I mean, as much as he can be best friends with anyone? His biggest problem is letting people in, and not because he doesn't want to, but because he has no idea how.

11. Would you date this character?

Hah! Look. I have a wonderful husband already. XD

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

Sephiroth has a blue pick-up that he drives on the few times he leaves the Tower.  He dislikes taking the train, and technically, the car belongs to the company, but no one would ever stop him.  He has a string of those fake materia beads that are so popular in Midgar hanging from the rearview mirror, and he likes to periodically just leave Midgar and drive on the dirt roads that go nowhere.  He finds it soothing, particularly with loud music blaring in the truck. -- Pulled from my headcanon blog. I mean, I could give you new ones, but I love this one.

13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?

I really cannot imagine Sephiroth using any emoji except the thumbs up and thumbs down ones, to be perfectly frank. Except, possibly, for texts with Genesis and Angeal, if they use emoji? If they do, I think he would slowly assimilate their styles of use, and do his best to mimic them.

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

Cottagecore. No, no! Don't go! Hear me out. Sephiroth in giant, oversized, cozy sweaters and his hair in a loose braid. It'd be great, and he'd be so happy.

15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)

Tseng and Sephiroth. I just. Tseng is so good for him, all quiet acceptance of anything odd about him, and gentle instruction when Sephiroth looks uncertain and just... I love them dearly. I have a ficlet series! I should add more to it, but here, look. ENJOY. I Fell (heavy) into Your Arms (like a stone) For the record though, I am also 100% on board for Genesis/Sephiroth. Super excited for Sephesis Week in January. I'm going to get so much new fic to read.

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

Ooh, spicy question there. Uh. I don't want to start anything, but I am not a huge fan of Sephiroth/Cloud. I mean. It's fine. It's just not my thing.

17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?

Mm... As a general rule, I am flexible on ships. Even my least favorite ship for Sephiroth is someone's ship, and I wish them the best in their shipyard.

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

I love his relationship with Genesis. Huge, huge feels when I started Ever Crisis and he was calling Gen and just... T_T Babies.

19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?

That would require him to have actual relationships. That said, his only other real relationship is with Cloud, and as I said in the ship questions, that's... fine. It's just not my thing.

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

Honestly, I do really like Sephiroth with Genesis and/or Angeal, and I think Tseng would be a good friend for him, even disregarding my shipping tendency. That said, Reeve would be good for him too. Not the least of which because Reeve would probably be able to help him get some answers about his mother if Sephiroth would ask him. Or maybe that's just my Reeve, who has been with Shinra since he was five.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Something I like: I like seeing him interact with people outside of missions. I like watching him be normal and having to deal with everything that comes with that. Something I don't: I hate fight scenes. Have me write 7k of introspection any day, but please, as few fight scenes as possible. XD

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?

Something I like: I love when other characters are super warm to Sephiroth and he's just like, "Do you like me? Do I want you to like me? Is that okay?" I just... it melts my heart every time. Something I don't: I find it difficult to believe people when they write Sephiroth as a sex god. Weirdly specific, right? But true. He's such an awkward teenager in Ever Crisis, and while he's very calm in Crisis Core, 90% of his "perfection" comes from just... not talking. I cannot imagine that he picks people up or hooks up very often. XD

23. Favorite picture of this character?

Currently? This one. Seph/Gen, kissing. But if you mean "ever," that's impossible. There's been so many fantastic pieces of fanart over the years.

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Mm. So little baby Trax, all those years ago (seriously, I watched FF7 being played when I was about 9, when the game was released), was basically like: Traxits: "Wait, why don't we like Sephiroth?" Cousin: "He murdered the President." Traxits: "The guy who dropped the sector? The one we were going to kill?" Cousin: "Yeah." Traxits: "And that's... bad?" Cousin: "Murder is bad." Traxits: "... but we were going to kill him first, right?" And then my cousin (age 13) made me go play in a different room.

Now, of course, I understand more about what was going on and everything, but the fact is, he's one of my favorites just because of how ... Mm. Doomed he is, maybe? I just. I love writing moments of happiness for him. He deserves them, despite everything. Because of everything. Because in the end, he's going to completely surrender himself to the alien cells in his body and he's going to lose himself. And there isn't, as far as we can tell, any way to save him.

26. Freebie question; Per discord discussion: Most obscure headcanon?

Oh, that's a fun one. Mine is probably that Sephiroth is a vegetarian. Actually, I'm not sure how widespread this is, but it used to be popular (I sound like a lady discussing what was "fashionable" in her time) to have Sephiroth be wildly sensitive to all kinds of foods, but from what I've seen in the current meta/jokes/etc., most people seem to headcanon that he has an iron stomach now. I go the opposite way and say thanks to the degree of experimental testing and the lack of exposure to a wide variety of foods, he's almost overly sensitive to new foods. To the point that he pretty much subsists exclusively on things from the SOLDIER cafeteria (who have a list of things that they can prepare for him) or things that he himself has prepared.

fr! i’ve had such a tough week too. i treated myself to some iced coffee on thursday bc ive been trying to cut down on expenses too (but at least once a week iced coffee is a must). i came back to my mom’s and saw my kitty (tofu’s brother) had blood on his toe literally rn and we’re waiting for some tranquilizers to make effect to see how we can handle de situation and if it’s necessary to have an emergency vet visit. on a better note, i have a friend who’s a tattoo apprentice and im speaking with them to get some small tattoos done soon!

Oh my god noooo I feel like you can’t get a break with all these cat incidents lately!! I’m so sad 😢 keep me posted with what happens!! Since Quill answered for Vanora, I’ll go ahead and answer them all for Raven, my sweet bby mapmaker in the same campaign! (If anyone wants to ask about other characters just lmk of course!)

SEASONING: Smoky/umami! Not necessarily a flavor Raven herself gravitates towards, but she’s always been associated with fire and that feels appropriate for her. (She does, however, enjoy a spicy hot chocolate).

WEATHER: Sunny, light breeze! Raven naturally has a very low body heat and gets cold pretty easily, so being out in the sun is always preferred.

COLOR: Blues, especially a very clear sapphire-blue. In recent incarnations, she’s also added gold to her palette — but blue has been her color since version 1.

SKY: A clear night sky, the kind where you can see a million stars.

MAGICAL POWER: Putting aside her sorcerer powers, I’d (jokingly) say her forgetfulness? Her memory is a swiss cheese to an impressive degree. But also yeah she’s got spooky shadow magic and sometimes sets things on fire.

HOUSE PLANT: Having never lived in a set place before, Raven knows nothing about house plants and gardening. While I’d love to say jasmine for the vibes, she should probably start off with something like a snake plant that’s hard to kill.

WEAPON: Daggers. There are Things happening with them, thanks @timelord-in-hogwarts !

SUBJECT: History/anthropology! Raven loves learning about old civilizations. Comes from having a mentor in his fourth century who knows a lot of stories.

MAKEUP PRODUCT: Fun fact, several past iterations of Raven had very distinctive black eyeliner and eyeshadow! Now, though, I’d say maybe a subtle gold shimmer dust.

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

Anger. Vengefulness. Grief. Shame. Inadequacy. He has an especially hard time dealing with anger when he sees injustices, murders that haven't been solved or investigated. He REALLY hates murder. I briefly considered him having a revenge arc but decided against it bc it seemed uhhh darker than I wanted to go with his character. He's gotten the justice he needs from divine intervention, so he usually looks to the gods for emotional support when he has a hard time dealing with these feelings.

Sunlight glimmered against the darkness of her hair as Ysilla sat with her back against the bone white tree, Aemond's silver hair sliding like water between her fingers as her nails scraped lightly against his scalp.

Annoyed now, Ysilla tugged a little too hard on his hair. Aemond yelped, craning his head backwards to glare at her. "I'll feed you to Vhagar if you do that again." he grumbled.

"Aemond…" He let out a low choked sound in the back of his throat, his fingers sliding over the fabric of her sleeves, the calluses catching on the fine material. "I'm sorry," he murmured, his breath warm. Ysilla pulled away sharply to stare at him in  bewilderment and shock. "Why are you apologizing?"

"And you're maddening," he mumbled, kissing her again and again and again, chasing the wild feeling that was her pressed against him, the wood of the shelf hard and painful at his back.

"You look lovely, daughter," King Viserys said to Helaena absentmindedly. "If only Aemma could see you now."

even aemond who is supposed to hate him, admires him and sees his point. they’re in a war the micro issues of relationships, endgames is naturally gonna be secondary to the greater issues at hand. my favorite thing about this fic is the nuance of the character dynamics, cause most often in fics it’s like romantic love trumps all despite everything. but here romantic love exists, but so does familial love, and the duties you and loves have to the realm and others. and it’s clear that even if aemond and alysanne love each other, they can’t just forsake everything because of that.

i know it’s not in line with escapist angle of fanfic, but it makes your characters more realistic because they behave like actual human beings. most people are multifaceted and they understand that love doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and that romantic love and platonic aren’t mutually exclusive.

and people calling alysanne selfish, like huh???? she is literally trying to be everything for everyone??? is she were selfish she would’ve parked herself right on aemond’s dick steered him and vhagar to essos and never looked back! and i think they’re forgetting that aemond’s family killed her mother! and she saw her die in the most excruciating way possible, and that she died indirectly because of her. obviously she is going to feel tremendous guilt over that and that she will in her grief try to make up for what her siblings lost. because in her mind she caused that loss.

i’m so sorry that you’re receiving so many criticisms and negative comments on the direction of the story. i just want you to know that i understand your vision and i appreciate you so much.

AHH omg this is so amazing of you to take the time to write this comment! it really means the world. but yeah, Jace's decision to ask Aemond to kill Daemon is definitely controversial, and with reason! I mean it's that balance between being brave and cowardly. Jace isn't an idiot - he knows his family needs him, and he's been tasked with the Song of Ice and Fire. He's trying to keep the realm together as much as possible.

Jace is kind of Robb when he refused to fight Jaime following Whispering Wood - he's smart enough to know when he'd lose a battle, and he knows he'd lose against Daemon. Aemond is the only dragon rider with a CHANCE. and he gives Aemond a pretty fair deal, from my point of view. Besides it'll benefit the Greens greatly if Daemon dies, namely because then there'll be no one to kill them even after Jace takes the capital.

and yeah, I get that this fanfic is perhaps a bit heavier than some of the other aemond x oc ones. maybe that's not fair to say, idk. I think I've made Aemond and Alysanne very attached to their family and their ability to be protectors, so it might make things murkier? idk.

I'm going to be honest, people calling Alysanne selfish for wanting to be with her family after what Otto did is something I'm not going to understand. I respect different interpretations, even tho I don't agree with it. she's certainly flawed - impulsive, naive, righteous, and occasionally ignorant. but yeah, she's trying her best lmao.

I wish people were a bit uh, kinder in their criticism. idk if it's me being sensitive, but there are definitely a few takes I've seen that makes me doubt whether I've conveyed anything properly in this story. I digress!! Jace is a fave of mine always, so writing for him has been sm fun!

gladiator chronicles : I'm actually quite enjoying this one, I really like mc more male mcs pls rc!!, and I adore most the lis especially afiy & labelle, I'm having a hard time choosing between them 😅 and hotch & gars should be lis idc!!

heaven's secret : first story I ever played and also first I finished, so I'll always have a soft spot for it,, I really enjoyed it! very entertaining. plus I'm weak for luci

hell and high water : underrated AF and it's such a shame because it's so damn good!! I know some people are put off bc the boat talk which yeah I don't understand shit about it myself but use a walkthrough and you'll be good lol, and it's just like such chill vibes for an dystopian story, and it's comfy?? but it's not boring At All, the characters are awesome especially the lis and don't get me started on all the diversity & representation!!! I'm so excited to keep playing and see where it goes, also chand has my whole heart

kali: call of darkness : this one is hard to rate because I feel like it has so much potential but for reasons I don't love it like I wish I did/like I could.... 😬 I do like mc tho and have gotten quite infatuated with killian which I didn't really expect sorry bby!

legend of the willow : 11/10 best story best mc & best li (kazu) hands down!!!! it's funny bc when I first got the app and went through playing the first chapter for each story I didn't feel very interested in this one,,, but when I saw all the hype around it I wanted to see what that was about and god y'all weren't lying dhdjkfkdhs it's just SO GOOD, all the lis are amazing, with such depth, and the plot is so interesting,, I'm sad it's over, I miss it/them,,, kazu loml ❤️ his/mei's relationship is just.. *chef's kiss* plus the way their intimate scenes are written?? on a whole different level. I just can't say enough good things about this story; if you haven't played it yet PLAY IT I promise you won't be disappointed

moonborn : ngl I only binged through this to gain gems lol,, like it's not the worst, it's at least semi entertaining to play through, it's just .... yeah definitely not the best quality 👀 esp mc, looks and personality yikes

on thin ice : oh oti my beloved,, I also have a major soft spot for this one because it's the second story I ever played, and I relate to mc in many ways,, also all the lis are great well idrc for leon but he grew on me a bit and Tate!!! I adore him so so much he's truly the sweetest bestest boy and so good for mc 🥺 I cried when I finished it because I had gotten so attached to the story/mc/tate/the squad. maybe it's not the best but it's really good imo and yeah I loved it

path of the valkyrie : I had a feeling I'd really enjoy this one and I wasn't wrong,, it's very entertaining & I really like mc so much plus all the lis except idrc for vanadis srry I decided to stay loyal to my boy ullr (with no regrets!) but I was tempted by andvari and liod ngl 👀

rage of the titans : not the best but it's still quite fun and it's kinda one of my faves to play just bc murphy. period! like I don't have much to say about the story but I could gush about him for hours lol

sophie's ten wishes : I'm still angry at this one. I don't wanna spoil anything but ugh. definitely not one of my faves, though it was tolerable.. I mostly played to gain gems. I had a hard time picking an li bc I didn't love any but quite liked a handful (diego, logan, blake, haku, kinda benedict). brandy was the best part of the entire story

the flower of tiamat's fire : really love this one!!! it's probably my second fave after lotw, same with li (sin), and mc. I also really adore iyar so much I mayve been weak and kissed him once or twice🤭 but kingu owns my heartu. lastly, varassa deserved better and should've been an li I'll be forever bitter and upset

the one : okay there's only been a single ep of this so don't have much to say lol. looks like it'll be fun, if nothing else,, mc seems cool/funny, adorable free pet!, and so far just from initial introductions I'm interested in luca & deshawn , maybe adira & mona

wave patrol : I feel like Ive said this about pretty much all the earlier releases but,, not the best that's for sure, but also not horrible, at least somewhat entertaining. kinda annoying you can't end up with an li if you don't spend any gems but eh im not too bothered. also why wasn't storm an li?? 🤧

kinda depends on the application. matches for lighting candles and like, campfires or hearth fires, lighter for things I'm gonna smoke.

Hazel! Much more green than brown, with grey flecks and a kinda grey ring around the iris.
