i think the thing that annoys me the most about romantic!s*ssrin is how much it undermines sessh’s character development, because whilst he and rin are arguably coded as a single father and his adopted daughter, they can also be interpreted as an older brother and younger sister who’ve lost their parents, so the brother is forced to take on a more parental role (think bellamy & octavia from the 100)

basically i always thought that sessh taking in an abused orphan and looking after her was his way of unconsciously repenting for the way he treated inuyasha (aka his actual sibling), but that reading is completely eliminated when you introduce a romantic element to their relationship
