Game Theory Vol 1 Edits - Chapter 4 - Threat
We have a new chapter title, as Desperation was split so that Gwyn can have a brand new encounter with Crielle and Efnisien together (and I think perhaps the first one we ever see).
In Threat, there's over 2400 words of completely new dialogue between our favourite toxic family, Crielle, Gwyn and Efnisien.
Here's an example of it:
‘It’s hard to even credit how peaceful the Seelie Court be without your meddling,’ Gwyn said idly.
He wasn’t surprised to hear she’d been involved. It wasn’t the first time, it wouldn’t be the last.
‘The Seelie are righteous, noble creatures,’ Crielle said, ‘all that is good and wonderful in the world, but we do so hate to be bored, and woe be upon us, we have a boring King. It is not your fault, my darling, You have such a thin Inner Court, and Albion and Ondine are so often away, for neither of them are even land fae. If you’d only consider appointing a larger coterie? Perhaps someone in charge of social gatherings. You’ve not held a Summer Court in so long. It must seem only a temporary, fleeting thing to you, but our lives are long, and we do need our entertainment. Even if you were to hold a ball…or some sort of public spectacle. Even an execution, we have a villain right here within the walls of our very Court, and everyone would gather to see the each uisge brought low and then beheaded.’
‘I cannot fault your creativity,’ Gwyn said.
‘Cracks me up, cousin,’ Efnisien said, eyes locked and deadly, ‘how you’ll slaughter anyone you want in a war but get all soft and squishy the moment you’re outside of one. Look, all your family is really trying to do is help you. Won’t you trust us?’
‘Efnisien is right, Gwyn, won’t you trust us at all?’ Crielle said, in a soft, sorrowful appeal. ‘We are only trying to advise you.’
‘I’ve learnt very well from my family not to trust anyone at all,’ Gwyn said. ‘It was perhaps the most valuable lesson I learned.’
Efnisien laughed.
These edits will not go into the AO3 version, but only the published version. They can be read early if you're in the Gary+Efnisien tier (or higher) on Patreon or Ream, complete with a full changelog so you can see exactly what's changing!

The adventure is over. Gem has followed the map her missing parents left behind, found her long-lost sister, and returned home to the lighthouse, a little traumatized but having gotten everything that she and Pearl had set out to retrieve in the first place. The journey was hard, but it was worth it, and now Gem knows for certain what's become of her family and gets to bring what remains home. By all accounts, this should be the happy ending.
The thing is this: just because she and Cleo have found each other doesn't mean they know what to do next.
The thing is this: what happens after the adventure, when everyone has a moment to think, is a type of journey too. It's just one Gem cares far less to confront.
howdy, everyone! this is my work for @mcytrecursive! it’s based on “out to the galaxy steady as she goes” by @mcyt-hc-writing, as well as a gift for them!
it’s a story about the trope of finding your long-lost sister, and the messy realization that having been lost means you don’t know each other. it’s also about the end of the adventure when you have to either process or fail to process the trauma that adventure dragged up. it's about realizing that there's someone you feel like you should know, but you don't. it's about the scars your parents leave on you years later and the way you are or aren't them. and it's also in space! it is that also.
i hope everyone enjoys it! (and i think it stands alone, for those worried about trying to read it without the context of another longer fic... although you should go read out to the galaxy also!)

You know which character I've been thinking about a lot lately?
Luigi.
The brother who is often belittled, disdained, brushed aside, misjudged and forgotten. The one that gets mocked and laughed at for his anxiety, who is never taken seriously and who is hardly ever given an ounce of respect; yet endures astounding pressure and lives his very own battles all the time.
The challenges that Mario face on a regular basis as the main protagonist are huge, and his efforts deserve to be fully acknowledged. But I find that there's a very special sort of strength residing within the younger brother which shines differently and sets him apart from everyone else.
To me, he's very much like a bottomless pond or a calm sea. The sort of thing one would feel inclined to underestimate, only- there's no way to predict what lies beneath the surface. Their hidden might and riches go unsuspected, hence why they are twice as striking when finally revealed. 🎇💚

Chloe saying she was glad they didn't cancel homecoming just because Maddie is missing, presumed dead, sounds like a bitch move at first but later in the episode seems so naive and optimistic when we find out this town still held the homecoming dance after Wally died. Like the entire school sat in a stadium, watched a boy die, went home, set their perms, and came back for the big dance?
