I just realized that when people like Rebecca or Tama give food to Luffy and he helps them to defeat a fascist tyrant it's not just for the laughs, but for the fact that he sees them as heroic figures, since "I'm not a hero because I wouldn't share my food" They're in their lowest, and yet, they share the food they have, so that makes them heroes in Luffy's eyes, and of course he would help a hero.
