The Arcana HCs: How M6 help you after a rough day
~ here we go, friends, here's that comfort we need when it's getting harder to hold everything together and we don't want to break down alone - brainrot ~
CW for descriptions of anxiety, being too stressed to relax, and having to say affirmations
-- to set the scene --
It's been too much lately. Every part of your day is turning more and more into a task, to the point that waking up even five minutes late fills you with guilt and reaching dinnertime feels unproductive. It's making you anxious, which makes you unmotivated, which makes you obsess over the amount of things to do that you don't want to, which makes you feel tired and overwhelmed before you've even made it out of bed.
It all comes to a head when you get back to your room one sunny afternoon. For the first time in weeks, you've gotten everything done in one frantic push, and now you have the rest of the day to relax. But you can't. You sit down, and then you pace, and then you stare at the wall, and then you lie down. No matter how many times you tell yourself everything's taken care of, we can rest now, the restlessness doesn't cease. Your body and mind and heart are running on fumes but you're too strung out to give them a break.
And that's when your beloved walks in, just in time to see your chin trembling as you squeeze your pillow in frustration.
Julian
Immediately puts his hands on your shoulders and asks you what's wrong. Talk to him. You're clearly not doing well and he's worried
As soon as he gets a general picture of it he's giving you the fullest squeeze, wrapping you up so firmly in his lanky arms that you couldn't rattle apart if you tried
Once he's felt you relax a little, he's keeping you distracted and happy until you're able to sleep
Starts to play doctor with you until you're laughing yourself silly
"Now then, my dear patient, what seems to ail you? I hate to see such a charming face in such pain. Is it your heart, my darling? Shall I check it for you?"
Proceeds to tickle you with his scruff as he pushes his nose into your collarbone: "Wait, that can't be right. I'm supposed to listen to your heart, not smell it. Though I'm sure its perfume is unrivaled."
Will half-jokingly prescribe you bed rest for the rest of today and all of tomorrow, even when you tell him he has to take a break too
*flops dramatically onto the bed next to you* "I suppose I can put aside my neighborly heroic duties for a day or two."
Asra
They're putting everything down and cupping your face in their hands as soon as they spot you. "Oh, MC. Have you gotten that stressed? Let me help you?"
Presses a kiss to each of your palms as soon as you nod and then starts shuffling around the room to make it as relaxing as possible
He's lighting your favorite candles, brewing you a calming tea, and lowering the lights
And then they're pulling out a host of scented oils to choose from so they can massage your back
It's blissful. He has the warmest, smoothest touch and somehow knows exactly where to press to get all the knots out
If want to talk about it, they're all ears
But the longer he works his magic, the more you can feel all the stress and tension bleeding out of you
Before you know it, you're well on your way to falling into a comfortable doze, wrapped up safe and sound in a tangle of limbs with lazy kisses being pressed to your temple
They are more than likely to suggest going on a relaxing trip the next morning. You deserve a break and they want to love on you
Nadia
She'll pull the pillow out of your hands and take them in hers instead
Her grip is one of the most soothing, grounding things you'll ever experience. Her hands are always cool and smooth, and her touch is one of the most firmly delicate things you know
She'll gently squeeze your hands in hers until you meet her eyes, and then she'll be asking you questions about how you're doing
She's so good at reading you and giving you the words you need to express yourself that you've completely explained all your worries and stressors in no time
And then she'll tell you how proud she is of you
How you're the smartest, most capable person she knows, and how you're doing so well, and how she marvels at your brilliance every day
How loving you is her greatest joy
She'll lay your head down in her lap and smooth her fingertips over your face until you fall asleep
And then she'll cancel all of your duties for the next day so she can give herself the pleasure of pampering you
Muriel
He doesn't like interfering with your process. If you're anything like him, you probably want some space when you're feeling anxious or upset
But also, he doesn't like seeing you anxious and upset. He is conflicted
He's the type to put himself in your line of sight, so he knows that you know that he's there and that he's available to you without making you feel pressured to talk to him
He'll also start leaving things close to you that help him stay grounded through his own anxiety - small, smooth wood carvings that fit perfectly in your fist, a cold glass of water, an extra sachet of myrrh
Once you're ready to talk about it, he'll listen and hold you as much as you want him to
If by some chance you're both too anxious to talk to each other, Inanna will take things into her own paws and bully you into bed
And then she will lie on top of you as the ultimate weighted blanket
Either way, Muriel will be as stubbornly patient as he needs to to find out what's caused this, and then he'll help you work through it
Portia
Oh boy. She can relate waayyy too much
She's worked herself too hard to relax so many times before, she knows what you're dealing with better than you do and is wholeheartedly dedicating herself to your recovery
First things first - start ranting. Ranting is good, it gets your feelings out and gives her an idea of how best to love you
Her next step is acting on that. If it's a frustrated kind of anxiety, she's taking you on a brisk walk around the garden to get the nervous energy out
If it's a sad anxiety, she's feeding you so much comfort food and snuggling you in the coziest blankets
And if it's a guilty anxiety, she's force-feeding you affirmations. She is going to look you dead in the eye and tell you so many good things about yourself
And then she's not going to let you go until you repeat it back like you mean it
You are enough. Say it back. You are worthy of so much love. Say it back. You are not disappointing her by being human and having limits. Say it back.
She'll leave it up to you to decide your schedule, but now, she's going to make you rest
Lucio
You're in bed in the middle of the afternoon? That's unusual
But you're right, nap time is always a good idea and it's been a while since he's had the chance to indulge
You'll have to be a little more expressive with your emotional turmoil for him to notice it, but honestly, just having him next to you helps pull you out of your head
He's so peaceful like this. He's perfectly content to lie next to you, stripped-back golden arm angled so it won't dig into your ribs, watching you happily in the golden afternoon light
He won't hesitate to pull you closer into his side so he can ramble about his day while he has your attention
If watching him fall asleep and feeling his slow, deep breaths next to you doesn't ground you, Mercedes and Melchior will
They're up on the bed too
One of them is sprawled across your legs, heavy and silky-soft, and the other has its nose smushed right up against your face giving you cold, wet sniffles. You'll be asleep too in no time

Sun and Moon as "Sundrop" and "Moondrop"
Makes me think that it's a silly, sickly sweet petname. What better to call your loved ones than a candy based off of them?
(Sun centric, can be read as platonic or romantic, he/they pronouns for the DCA, gn Y/n, Y/n works in the Pizzaplex, it's cleaning day baby >:])
"Sun?" No response.
"Sunny?" You ask curiously. Still nothing.
"Sunflower, where are you?" You shout out into the daycare. A soft clicking noise can be heard from the balcony.
"Sunny I can hear you up there!" You shout at him with a smile
He giggles and then flops his front half over the edge with his rays making lazy circles around his head, staring at you.
"Yes lovebug???" He seems excited about something.
"Can you come here please? I haven't seen you all day!"
You really haven't. Being an employee at the Pizzaplex isn't always easy. Maintenence, lights, cleaning, customer service, handsy messy kids, and a seemingly never ending list of tasks. You travel across the whole plex all day, and it's tiring. But it's nice to be able to come to the daycare at the end of the day for your last tasks.
Sure, the Glamrocks are good company, but Sun and Moon are your best friends! Even if they hide from you when it's time for a cleaning.
"Sun, come down here, it's your turn!"
He stares at you for a second before he scoots his prone form off the balcony and ragdolling into the ball pit below him.
"Sun?!?!"
No response
"Come on!! I'm not coming in there to get you again." Yes you were.
"UGH" You sigh out sarcastically and stare for a few minutes to see if he'll give up on the bit
... he's not
You begrudgingly cross the bridge into the vast sea of plastic before you and walk over to where you saw Sun fall.
With a smile on your face you start kicking around with your legs to feel for them. It takes a minute and moving a few feet in either direction, but you feel him grab your calf and pull it forward.
You stumble and fall onto your back in the pit. There are lanky limbs on you in an instant.
Caged in by the Daycare Attendant you can't do much but sit there with your head and shoulders above the surface. Sun is giggling and lifts his head up to look at you, rays retracting and coming back out in a show of excitement.
"Hi~", they purr at you and nuzzle into your shoulder.
"Hello sundrop~" you pat on his back lovingly. His rays start whirring around in circles.
He hugs you just a little harder and then loosens his tight grip in your body.
He looks at you with his milky white eyes expectantly.
"What?" You question him. He taps his cheek with a long finger and says,
"Here."
"Oh!" You realize and then give him a short kiss on the cheek. He brightens up and pushes his smile against your forehead in his form of a kiss with a loud, "MWAH!"
You stare at eachother before you say,
"Its cleaning day man, we've got to get this done, and then we can play."
They look at you and click their head to the side, once, twice, and then a full circle.
"Fine.." he says. You're able to hear the pout in his tone.
"Its not that bad, you just have some marker on you! This should be quick." You tell him.
"Can you use the really soft rag?" He asks.
"Hm?"
"The soft one! With the good smelling foam!" They say excitedly.
"Oh! Yeah! Let me get some some stuff out of the closet real quick." You tell them.
-----
The cleaning goes smoothly! Sun sits on a cleared off spot of the security desk and you put a sweet scented foam cleanser on the marker spots. Some are more stubborn to come off than others, and you discover that some of it is Sharpie. No matter, it comes off with a little elbow grease and some giggles from Sun complaining about tickles.
"Snrrk- Y/N!! HEHHEHE!!!!"
"What~" you tease and continue scrubbing, a little lighter this time, moving to the seam on his front that had green marker in it.
Putting a line of foam on the seam, you rub it in with a gloved hand.
Sun starts frantically tapping his hands on the desk and kicking his legs off to the side.
"PfffftttaahahaAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!"
Giggles and the light tinking sound of his bells fill the air while you use the corner of the rag to clean the gap.
When you're finally done, you have a dirty rag, some peeled stickers you discovered on the back of his rays, and... a squeaky clean Sun!
He picks you up and twirls around
"Oh THANK YOU friend! What would Moon and I do without you hm?"
"Probably be covered in glitter and marker" you laugh.
"Hm, I suppose. But I like being pretty! And the kids get really excited to color on me!" They say happily.
"Yeah I bet they are, but you know-"
You're cut off by your Faz-watch telling you that your work day is over, and to clock out and have a 'Faztastic day'.
"Oop, looks like our time is up Y/n! Moonie says not to stay up too late tonight!"
They give you one last hug before guiding you to the comically large doors and waving at you as you head out of the shutters.
You wave back at him and tell him that you'll be back tomorrow and you'll have more free time then.
Heading home, you find yourself in a great mood.
Today was a good day.

my cat
she's the best cat in the world. nobody else want to adopt her. when they reach for her she always hiss. even hiss at the one who feed her. especially hiss at children, anxious little cat. so i always like to visit her. (by now it is hard to get to her spot.) but i go, she hiss ,and i slow blink and back away. this goes on for a month or so. Soon she will tolerate proximity. no touch. if i try to go in for a pet, she always hiss. I always acknowledge and back away.
i climb up to where the cat is sit and we chill for a bit. i try to stroke her cheek. she about to hiss. open her mouth then she - pause - turn it into a yawn. Fully closes her eyes for a moment then looks right at me. very very carefully pet pet pet :)
She teach me real quick i am only to open with {left_cheek, left_cheek, right_cheek, right_cheek}. If i pet wrong cheek, wrong forehead i get hiss/swat/bite. I follow her lead and learn her wants. she loves it. now i have 3 years this was anxious cat is living with me! who hasn't hissed twice in the last year. i am her safe person, she trusts me. she slow blinks across the room at me.
she will pantomime anything she wants. she taught me just how she loves to be combed. I've learned maybe ten to fifteen gestures, such as "give me catnip", "pick me up" and "lay yourself down on the floor."
When she gets anxiety she likes me to lay on my side on the floor. she will lead me to the rug, lay on her side, and wait for me to copy her motion. Then she gets up and walks my whole perimeter. When she's behind me she makes little noises - i'm not supposed to look. Calms her down,, don't know why. She finish patrol where she nuzzles my face. my guess is I demonstrate my trust in her, and i feel safe, so she feels safe.
it's not like she pesters me for attention, then goes along with whatever I do. She will have something she wants. even if it's just a hug. if I guess wrong she will stare at me, meow, she will not go along.
I've written down tricks she's taught me (so i won't forget). the weirdest one is "play house". I kneel on my hands and knees with a towel draped over my back. The towel covers my sides to the floor. i did it once on accident and since then she begs for it. She goes inside the me-house and purrs. Preens herself in there for 60 to 90 seconds. Then she uses me as a base to scope out the area: first peeking out the curtains, then venturing to stalk the room. A game of "play house" lasts 5-10 minutes.
Sometimes she pantomimes novel ideas. Like last week sometime I made a thing out of wood... I kind of on accident left a lot of sawdust in her favorite sunning spot? So she come over yonder and gets me out of my chair. gestures to follow her.
(she leads me across the house by pre-established path nodes! she brush the door frame, i follow to there. she brush the table leg, follow to there. always the same spots. if she stay at table leg and meow, she want fancy feast. if she goes further, she wants us to play or for me to lie on floor, depending which way she turns next.)
This time she leads me to the sunny floor spot. i try to warn her the sawdust. No! she flop in the sawdust on purpose. She roll around, really work sawdust into her fur. then she lick herself, gag, and stare in my eyes.
...so i brush her off. she supervise me sweep up all the dust. and when I am done she strafe me 4 times to do big happy purrs and the forehead bonks.
I have the best cat in the world, and she loves me!

Mushy May Day three post ritual
Pairings: Sunshine/Dew/Rain
Warnings: Sunshine is in heat but its not explicit, just cuddles
Sunshine enjoyed the Rituals, honestly.
She always had fun, however tonight she couldn’t wait for the ritual to be done with.
She wasn’t feeling the best and knew her heat was coming up, and she wanted to curl up next to her girls or with Dewdrop and Rain.
Sunshine hadn’t decided yet, but she knew it’d probably end up with Rain and Dew and her on the big bed, or everyone in a pile.
She enjoyed the cuddle piles on tour more than she did when everyone was home. It just hit different.
Soon, the ritual was over and after the finale, she threw the crowd a few kisses and bowed when it was time to and then bolted to the dressing rooms, tugging her mask off and throwing her cape to the side.
She could hear Copia in the back teasing her about throwing them. Sunshine teasingly flipped her Papa off and went to work on changing into comfy clothes as everyone cleaned up.
She flopped on one of the couches, sighing in relief when she got comfy and started to doze off.
Swiss went to wake her but was stopped by the girls and Dewdrop.
“Let her rest a minute. Her heat is coming.” Cirrus whispered. Dew and Cumulus nodded in agreement, hovering close to Sunshine.
Swiss nodded and left, but turning back around to look at the … quad?
“Why does Dewdrop get to help them? He’s a fucking menace.” Swiss teased, flashing his fangs in a playful manner.
Dew rolled his eyes and curled up next to Sunshine on the couch.
“Dew’s a good heating pack.” Cumulus replied, draping Dew’s favorite blanket over both of the chaos twins.
Swiss hummed and walked away to help pack everything. Once that was done Mountain carried a still sleeping Sunshine onto the bus, setting her on the big bed, Dew sliding into the bed as well, pressing himself close to Sunshine who wriggled and sighed at the heat Dew brought.
Later Rain brought Dew his favorite snacks and drink, also climbing into the bed, curling up next to Sunshine’s front.
She popped her eyes for a moment, sleepily squinting at who was laying by her.
“Mmm. Hi Rainy. Hi… Dew?” She whispered.
Rain pressed a chaste kiss to her forehead and Dew let out a small chirp.
“Wha time is it?” She slurred, burrowing her head into Rain’s chest. Rain instantly started petting her wild curls.
“Nearly 11pm. You took mmm about an hour? Nap after we got into the dressing rooms and you changed.” Rain answered. Sunshine let out a soft purr.
“Mmm okay. Can I get water?” She asked, not moving from her comfortable spot.
Dew went to get up from his spot but Rain grabbed onto his tank top, and gestured to Aether who had already gotten up. Dewdrop purred and nuzzled his face against Sunshine’s neck, breathing in her spicy sweet scent. Sunshine was also purring, between Rain and Dew she was at a comfortable temp.
Aether brought her a bottled water and a few snacks, sitting at the edge of the bed and feeding Sunshine.
Sunny thanked Aether and beckoned him to join the pile. He curled up by her feet, and soon everyone in the pack was in a pile, Copia even joining, despite his protests.
Cirrus was the one to wrangle the AntiPope into the pile, her and Cumulus cuddling up to him.
“Love you guys.” Sunshine purred.
“We love you too Starshine. And when we get back home, you're coming straight to mine and Rainy’s nest.” Dew mumbled.
The others protested a bit. They loved helping Sunshine during her heats as well.
“Guys. Stop fighting. Fight tomorrow. Shut up and sleep.” Mountain replied grumpily, his tail lightly slapping those who were arguing. That made everyone break out into laughter, the grumpy giant eventually joined in the laughter, it slowly dying out as everyone slipped into slumber

Peppered in Kisses
A Bex x Liz(aka Baxton) dabble
Warning: Cloud-soft fluff and cats
Bex didn’t need to feel the other side to know it was empty. She knew Liz was gone the moment she had tried to move Bex’s arms away from her waist and left to start her day. There was clattering in the kitchen but Bex didn’t worry too much, after all, the stove hadn’t made it’s tell-tale click so whatever Liz was concocting it didn’t require the fire extinguisher.
Opening her eyes Bex groaned at the morning light. Sure, back at Gallagher, Bex would be up and running a nice jog around the woods by now but as Cammie always says ‘it’s the weekend’. However, as much as Bex would love to smoosh her face back into the pillow she was unfortunately wide awake now, so she sat up. The blankets fell off of her in waves and left her bare skin to brace the brunt of the cold that seeped deep into her bones.
Bex groaned and threw her feet over the side of the bed, shooting them back off the ground when she missed her slippers and glared at the cold floor as she adjusted her aim. Lizzie must’ve tripped over them this morning which would explain all the shuffling Bex had heard.
She pulled on a robe, only half-trying to tie the gap close. Pausing as she passed by the mirror Bex reached a hand up to touch her neck, pulling the shoulder of the robe further down as her fingers traced the new décor and then froze a hairs length away from the scar she received way back in the days of the Circle. Her hand began to mindlessly trace the old stitches when there was a bang from the kitchen and Liz’s voice shouting out a very startled ‘Pepper!’
Bex didn’t burst through the door(whatever Liz might say) but she did rush to Liz’s side and the shorter woman was holding up an orange kitten in her arms and looking down at a knocked over bowl full of flour.
“Well,” Bex spoke and Liz looked over at her, her blue eyes bright with surprise. “I see Pepper tried to help with breakfast.”
Liz sighed and looked at the culprit in her arms who didn’t look the least bit guilty.
“Yeah, here,” Liz gently passed Pepper from her arms into Bex’s. “I’ll clean up and I’ll just-”
“Liz-” Bex tried but Liz started to ramble.
“I can try to find some more mix so breakfast might take a little longer so just-”
“Liz-”
“There’s coffee ready and maybe some of those cookies Eva left so-”
“Lizzie,” Bex finally managed and reached out a hand to rest on Liz’s shoulder. She froze and turned to look at Bex, her blonde hair was a bit of a mess and her face was flushed, possibly from chasing Pepper.
Bex gestured for Liz to follow her lead as she took a few deep breaths and Liz closed her eyes and tapped her finger along to the count.
“I’m sorry,” Liz began, running a hand through her hair as they sat on the kitchen floor. “I wanted to make a nice breakfast in bed, like in the movies but Pepper kept running around and I just.” Liz let her arms flop down with a defeated sigh and Bex chuckled softly, gently setting down the kitten who merely walked to the nearest sunny spot and laid down. Bex cupped Liz’s face and wiped away from flour from her cheek with her thumb.
“We can still have breakfast in bed,” Bex offered and Liz bit down on the corner of her lip.
“Bex, we’re both out of bed.”
“Then we’ll just sit back down again. Have a good lie in.” Liz lifted her gaze up from off the floor and looked deep into Bex’s eyes. A small smile began to tug at her lips and Bex couldn’t help stealing a quick kiss.
“Okay,” Liz whispered against Bex’s lips and they cleaned up, moving around each other quietly as they cooked. They didn’t exactly own a good tray for an all-American breakfast but they did have a decent enough cookie tray and that was good enough for them. Through many stolen kisses and sabotage attempts from Pepper, Liz fixed the final details of their tray and smiled.
Bex wrapped her arms against her waist and Liz leaned against her, admiring their hard work. Bex kissed Liz’s neck and Liz giggled softly at the sensation. She could feel the smile on Bex’s lips as she began to pick up where she had left off the night before. Leaving nothing undiscovered or unloved.
“You look good in my shirt,” Bex whispered against her skin and Liz turned around in her arms, flushed against her as she tilted her head up to look Bex in the eye. Her mouth moved softly as though she wanted to say something but her brain couldn’t compute words for a moment. Her gaze speaking for her as it trails down from Bex’s eyes to her lips, to her neck and exposed shoulder. Her hands naturally reach up to fix the robe but not before stopping just before covering the scar.
Her fingers were light as they danced around the scar, outlining the old wound and a soft sigh escaped her.
Bex opened her mouth to speak but she was cut off when Liz leaned forward, kissing beside the scar and then neatly setting the robe properly, her hands smoothed invisible wrinkles. Bex removed a hand from around Liz’s waist and took one of her small hands in her own. Her fingers were thinner than Bex’s, her pale skin stood in contrast to Bex’s natural melanin.
Brining Liz’s hand to her lip Bex began to kiss her finger tips first, focusing on her task diligently before turning her gaze to meet Liz’s as she quizzes her knuckles next. Taking her time as she moved from one knuckle to the next, turning Liz’s hand over as she then kissed the heel of her palm and finally her wrist.
She knew she didn’t have to say the words, they were already there but as Bex’s heart began to pound in her ears and she felt her nerve starting to waver, she spoke up.
“Lizzie I-”
“I love you.”

HOME IS THE TWO OF US
jesper fahey x female! reader
Tumblr media
A/N: this is my fic for @magpiencrow's 1.2k writing challenge - i chose to combine 'you and i' by queen and 'two of us' by the beatles. and yeah this is more than two weeks later than when i said i would post this what about it
Summary: jesper and y/n have a wonderful night on ghezen's day
Warnings: swearing, i think that's it? its literally just pure indulgent fluff
Tumblr media
"You do realize someone probably worked very hard to earn kruge like this, right?" Y/N L/N grinned, holding up a thick wad of money they had stolen from someone's pockets. She was seemingly unperturbed by the fact, her tone light and teasing as she bumped playfully into Jesper.
"And we, my dear, are working very hard on spending it," Jesper winked, wrapping one of his long arms around her shoulders. He snatched the kruge from her hand, immediately spending a portion of it on the first thing he laid eyes on, which was a ridiculously bright orange hat that burned Y/N’s eyes just looking at.
Jesper plopped it on her head, adjusting it so it was crooked, laughing.
Y/N would have done anything to hear that laugh.
The streets were loud and boisterous and carefree, and for the first time in a very long while, the two of them felt the same way. For today, at least, there were no chores or errands or jobs to do.
It was Ghezen's Day - the holiday that signified the starting of spring, where everything was sunny and bright. It was the one day where even the lowest of the Barrel thugs were out enjoying this tiny sliver of happiness, where there was only whistling vendors and cheery parades and star-gazing at night.
But for Y/N and Jesper, it was something more. It was a day where they weren't con artists or thieves or sharpshooters. They weren't thugs or gamblers or criminals.
They were teenagers.
Kaz, of course, pretended like he didn't care. He rolled his eyes and told them that were just trying to get away from chores they despised or any actual work. But everyone knew, even if they didn't admit it, that today was a day where they could pretend.
Pretend to be normal, pretend to be regular, pretend that they had loving families and good homes. Pretend that the weight of being hated and criminalized and addicted didn't make their shoulders slump and their heads hang. Pretend that they didn't muffle their sobs behind closed doors or shake in bed as they tried to rid their minds of all the horrible, treacherous, necessary things they had done.
Pretend that they were just a pair of inseparable best friends having a good holiday.
"C'mon, we need to find a good spot to see the sky," Jesper needled, taking Y/N by the arm and dragging her toward a carriage, elbowing a small, old lady out of the way and almost running them over a few small children on the way.
On Ghezen's Day, an hour after the sun set, the city mandated that all lights be shut off - the sky was clearer than it ever was in the hours that followed, and nearly everyone over the age of twelve stayed up until dawn, watching the sky. However, there was still pollution in the city, remainders of the gas and oil and muck churned up from the sea and the homes of the wealthy, and many preferred to ride to the outskirts of town, if not all the way into the country, where the sky was more visible.
Those towns that bordered between rural and urban, which never saw much tourism or profit, were the most popular places to be, full of tents for dancing outside and vendors selling foreign delicacies and musicians standing in the streets.
And as such, it was almost impossible to get a carriage out of the city without deploying either bony knees, steel-capped boots, or vicious elbows.
And that was exactly what was happening as people shoved and hassled people out of the way, even occasionally pulling out thick wads of kruge, trying to bribe other people in getting out of the limited selection of carriages going out of the city.
"The woman with the black shawl," Y/N whispered (though she needn't have bothered - the city was loud enough to mask any noise), leaning in and brushing her lips against Jesper's ear so he could hear her.
She could’ve sworn she felt him shudder.
"Ten minutes. No less."
"Twenty kruge.”
"Done."
Y/N grinned, slipping out of Jesper's hold and sauntering over to the woman in question, a pretty red-head. The woman was obviously rich (Y/N took a moment to appreciate the elegant dark blue dress she was wearing, paired with pretty gold earring and a matching necklace) and was about to step into a black carriage - one that Y/N was about to charm her out of.
"Hey there, miss," Y/N called out, putting on the face of an entitled, flirtatious mercher. "You wouldn't mind sharing the carriage, would you? I can’t seem to find an available one, and I’d rather share one with a beautiful lady such as yourself instead of some of those Barrel barbarians.”
The woman stopped halfway into her seat, looking back at Y/N.
If Y/N hadn’t been wearing the obviously expensive clothes she was, with the even more expensive diamond necklace around her throat (that Jesper had given her last Ghezen’s Day, as a present), the woman would have simply shut the carriage door in Y/N’s face.
Then there was the fact that she was gorgeous, and nobody in their right mind would refuse a two hour carriage ride alone with her.
That was Jesper’s opinion, at least.
“I could say the same about you,” the mercher grinned, opening the door wider.
Y/N smiled back, stepping into the carriage and placing her hand delicately on the other woman’s arm-
And swiftly shoved her into the streets, slamming the door behind her. Jesper climbed in from the other side, shaking his head in mock disappointment. “Cruel.”
“Please, I slipped fifty kruge in her sleeve, she’ll be fine.”
“Ah. In that case, proceed. I don’t like anyone flirting with my Y/N, anyway.”
Y/N smirked at him, handing the driver a wad of kruge and telling him to step on it.
“Criminals,” he muttered, snapping the reins.
~
"Heels down, Y/N, love," Jesper shouted, grinning.
Y/N, switching the reins to one hand, flipped him off, scowling, but adjusted her feet in the stirrups anyways, forcing her heels downward and huffing when her calves ached. “I hate you.”
“We both know you love me,” Jesper shouted back, easing back into a trot - Y/N did the same, easing her weight further into the balls of her feet and gripping the saddle tighter between her knees. Beside her, Jesper had already done the same, posting in time with his horse’s gait.
“Where are we going again?” Y/N asked, panting as she slowed her horse down to a full stop.
“Absolutely nowhere.”
“Do we’re going nowhere, and basically getting nowhere and you want me to be happy about all this work?”
“Yes? You’re being blessed with my presence.” Mock indignation filled the words and Y/N rolled her eyes.
“Fine,” Jesper huffed, “let’s go back home.”
But home wasn’t always a place, was it?
~
”Come on, I’m hungry,” Y/N whined, pulling Jesper’s wrist with her as she power-walked through the crowded, small town in search of some sweets.
”Ooh, cinnamon honey cakes,” Jesper said dryly, almost smacking into Y/N when she came to a full, screeching halt.
”Don’t you dare joke about honey cakes,” she hissed, poking him in the chest.
”I wasn’t,“ Jesper chuckle, nodding toward the vendor selling the sweets in question.
Y/N gasped audibly, dragging him along with her as she practically sprinted for the cart.
”After this, we’re going straight to the pond. We don’t want anyone to steal our spot.”
~
Y/N flopped down on her bed, staring at her wall of paper in boredom.
Each scrap of parchment, every napkin with hastily scribbled writing in the back, was a letter from Jesper.
Every week, no matter where Jesper was at the moment, he would write her a letter - describe where he was in detail, and then every thought that came to mind. It was a strange tradition (that nobody remembered how it came about) that Nina liked to tease them about.
You two have separation anxiety, she would giggle. Like an overprotective mother and her baby.
Two best friends, actually, Y/N would respond, stuffing her face with waffles.
Um, no. Would ‘best friends’ write, and I quote, “I’ll be home soon” on every letter they write?
Yes, they would, Y/N would sigh, snatching whichever letter Nina had gotten ahold of that time, and stare at the phrase in question.
Because home wasn’t a place.
~
“Stop doing that,” Jesper whined, plucking the lit match from Y/N’s fingers and tossing it into the pond.
She huffed, sticking out her tongue and lighting another one, waiting until it had burned down to her fingers before flinging it into the lake. “It’s a habit, Jes.”
They could’ve been there bickering playfully, enjoying each other’s company in silence for three days or three hours or a mere three minutes. Time didn’t exist, didn’t matter when they were alone together.
Laughter rang through the darkness, lanterns only bobbing pinpricks of light behind them - drunk giggles and cheerful music echoed back to them, but it didn’t really register to either of the two.
Moonlight bathed the two of them in a white glow as they both stood up as the stars gradually came out, twinkling, tiny lights covering the marbled, dusky blue-purple-black night sky, exposing nebulae and swirls and whorls of colors.
~
“Y/N, love, you’re gonna catch a cold.”
“I don’t care in the slightest.”
Jesper sighed, a grudging smile overtaking his face as he watched Y/N. She was soaked to the bone, hair and clothes sticking to her skin, nose ruddy from the cold.
“Dance with me,” she pleaded, holding out a hand to him.
She looked beautiful.
Jesper finally relented, picking Y/N up and twirling her around. She squeaked, closing her eyes, gripping onto his arms for dear life as the rain came down in silver sheets around them.
When he set her back down, the world seemed to stop spinning, the carriages stopped moving, it was just him and her and the rain.
“Let’s go home,” Y/N said eventually, quiet and peaceful, smiling up at Jesper.
But they were already home.
~
She turned to Jesper, about to remark on how pretty the whole thing was, but stopped in her tracks. He was staring at her, a small, happy smile on his face, an unreadable emotion in his silver eyes.
“Wha-“
He closed the three feet of space between them, grabbing her face between his hands, gently, like she was as precious as the diamonds around her neck. Not like she was breakable - like she was valuable, and he never wanted to lose her.
He gave her time to pull away, to laugh and make a joke, but she only stared back at him, the quizzical expression gone, on its place one of fear and hope and happiness.
And then his mouth was on hers and her hands were messing up his hair and she couldn’t feel the grass on her feet anymore or the wind on her neck or her heart, jittering in her chest like it wanted to burst out and fly into the night, only him, him, him.
And then he pulled away and kissed her nose, her eyelids, her forehead. He was laughing, hands going to her waist to twirl her around and around and then she was laughing too, too many emotions to count bubbling up in her chest. Elation, hope, almost hysterical happiness, and-
Absolute certainty.
That was the feeling, that was the one thought filling her head - that there weren’t any questions anymore, because this was where she was supposed to be, this is what she was supposed to be doing, and for once, she was letting herself.
For once, she wasn’t thinking about the next day or the next job or the next week.
It was just the two of them.
Because she could never predict where life was going to lead her next, or foresee the future years, or know what horrible thing was going to happen to her next. Hell, she didn’t know what was going to happen in the next couple hours, let alone what type of sandwich she was going to eat tomorrow.
But she knew, with absolute and utter certainty, that she wanted to do it with him.
That whatever happened, she would be alright, because home wasn’t a place - and it wasn’t Jesper, either.
It was the two of them, together.
~
Music floated gently in the darkness, down to were Y/N and Jesper were laying in the grass. Her head was on his chest, and they were both staring at the stars.
Home is the two of us.

🍒Cherry Ice Cream🍒
A/N: Happy July! I planned this almost a year ago and finally got around to writing it...I hope you like it! As always, I appreaciate feedback a lot! Hope everyone has a lovely day <3
pairing: optional bias (male) x reader (gn)
words: ~ 3.7 k
genre: fluff, comedy, lifeguard!bias, reader is the most awkward and chaotic person ever (are we at the public pool or the circus?? seriously I’m so second hand embarrassed for her lmao), bias is the hottest man in existence, the universe has something against the reader apparently (rip)
PART 2 (nsfw, both parts can be read independently)
You approached the front entrance of the public swimming pool. Everything was still going by plan. Ever since the weather had gotten warmer, you’d had swimming on your mind. And every single person in your life had been made aware of it. Despite the friendly asking and the occasional begging, you still hadn’t found anyone to accompany you to the public swimming pool. You had heard all the reasons: Work, already planned vacations, a sick pet, a hatred of water, a hatred of people, you name it. After all the searching you had come to the conclusion that you were tired of waiting. Nothing could possibly rob you of your excitement about swimming pools. You’d go alone and have a wonderful time. It would be a relaxing day with loads of time just for you. So you had told yourself. But let’s face it, nothing could have prepared you for the utter chaos you were about to walk into.
It began before you had even set both feet into the facility. Your steps were light, and you beamed, ready to enter after you had paid. The strap of your sports bag had caught in the turnstile in the entrance area. Stubborn as you were, you yanked on it, instead of turning around and manually freeing the fabric from the steel contraption. You had put your entire weight on the line, tugging and pulling, when the strap finally came loose from the turnstile. As expected from such antics, you tripped and struggled in your flip-flops, blundering into the compound like a baby giraffe walking for the first time. By the time you tried to compose yourself to look cool and relaxed after such a mistake, you noticed him.
He, who looked like a Greek god blessing you with a visit on earth. He was all tan skin, red life-guard swim trunks, perfectly sculped shoulders, pushed back hair, a smile that put the sun to shame and sunglasses sitting on top of his head. Instantly you thanked yourself for not seriously injuring yourself. The young godman crossed the lawn, presumably to take his seat by the pool, watching out for the visitors. Only he made it look like he was strutting on a runway at Paris fashion week. All you could do was pray that he hadn’t seen you entering his workplace headfirst like some impatient six-year-old.
As people passed you, you realized you were standing in the same spot where you had almost fallen a minute ago. Manifesting that this was just the silly beginning to a perfect day, you paraded into the shaded grassy area to find a spot to set up your things. Countless groups of friends, families, and lone visitors like yourself had already settled down, but you managed to find a fine spot. It was the superb balance between sunny and shady and not too far from the swimming pools and water slides. In seconds you had shed off your clothes to reveal your swimsuit underneath. Although you could barely keep yourself waiting, you decided it was best to stay there a short while before you threw yourself into the waves. Just until the sunscreen had absorbed into your skin. Meanwhile, you would unpack the catchy book you had recently begun to read.
Now and then you raised your head and peeked at the cute lifeguard. You seriously had no intentions of coming across like a creep, but you couldn’t stop yourself. The way he patrolled the side of the large pool had more coolness than the prettiest shot of a hot movie star in a film. You allowed yourself a few seconds, then you’d go back to your novel. The sounds of summer floated through the air – children laughing, water splashing, birds chirping above you – and the scent of the sunscreen catapulted you straight on cloud 9. It felt like your own small piece of paradise. Little did you know, the universe had so much more in store for you.
You hadn’t been buried in your book for even 10 minutes when a group of kids ran by. They were passing a water ball from one to the other and giggling uncontrollably. You saw it coming in your peripheral vision but had no time to react. As they had reached your level, one of them punched the ball especially hard. And instead of catching it, the dark blue ball bounced off one child’s hands and straight into the side of your face. It knocked your sunglasses off the bridge of your nose, but more importantly gave you the fright of your life. You dropped your book while the children’s mother scolded them from the side. After the initial surprise you couldn’t accept their apologies quickly enough. Anything if it could spare you from even more attention from random guests around you. Impulsively, your eyes searched for the cute lifeguard. But he was looking into the opposite direction. At least fate had saved you from embarrassing you in front of him. The last thing you wanted was to look like more of a clown than you had when entering the facility earlier. But against your expectations, the train of unfortunate events was only beginning.
Surely things would be more peaceful in the water, you had thought. When you finally entered the cool pool, it felt like heaven on earth. Fearing a case of recurrence, you avoided the shallower areas, where the children crowded and went straight for the deeper waters. Finally experiencing some form of relaxation, you swam and dived a few laps around the pool. Now and then you caught a glimpse of the lifeguard on the far end of the pool. Just to make sure he was still there. Just to make sure he’s still as handsome as when you first spotted him. And you weren’t disappointed. Gesturing kindly, he helped an elderly woman find directions to the restaurant on the far end of the site. From up closer, his smile and his jaw were even prettier – even though it had seemed impossible for him to become even more perfect.
After a while, your limbs became tired and you retracted into less busy waters, close to the exit and entrance area of the swimming pool. As you paddled your way through bodies, a bug startled you. It had by all appearances chosen you as its victim, as it took direct flight into your face. Even when you swat it away and turned around to change directions, it kept chasing you and only you. Like some crazy, obsessed stalker, it followed you to the edge of the pool. Eventually, you became tired of running and turned to it. If some random flying beetle wanted to fight you, so be it. To the untrained eye, you might have appeared like a lunatic, fanning the air, and squinting against the bright sunlight. But it was war, and you would square up against the most annoying of bugs. After a while, you realized that you were waving off the air – no more bug in sight. Only then you noted the little girl laughing in your direction from the poolside. You were way too mortified to turn into his direction at first, but when you found the lifeguard, he was conversing with one of his co-workers. Once again, you were safe.
Your next approach at a good time was the colorful waterslide close by. Certainly, these heights would not include micro-aggressive bugs. Instead, they included something far more unsettling. Considering there were toddlers going down the waterslide, you deemed it safe and fun. Your mind changed in the first sharp turn, when you tumbled over and hit your elbow from the sudden change of direction. Maybe you should have just stayed in the ring with the bug instead of choosing this more than violent escape. But it was too late. Once on the slide, you had to make it through to the finish line – more or less in one piece. Your grand finale composed of a semi-somersault off the edge of the waterslide into the pool. Although it wasn’t intentional, you still hoped it looked somewhat graceful to the audience at the bottom. Hint: No, it didn’t. You looked like a baby monkey that had been sent down a self-constructed-waterslide in someone’s backyard. It was a disaster.
Feeling over-heated and exhausted from the sun and your embarrassing antics, you found a drinking fountain by the showers to refresh yourself. Patiently, you waited in the short line until it was your turn. As fate wanted it, the next messy incident wasn’t long in the coming. In fact, it only took four sips of water before you accidentally inhaled some of it. You stepped back, choking, coughing, and gasping for air all at once. A helpful woman showed mercy with you and your awkward behavior and softly pat your back. “Are you okay, dear?” she asked. Unable to speak just yet, you smiled and nodded gratefully. Great. Maybe you should add “clown” onto your previous professions in your CT. By now, half the visitors probably knew who you were – a walking safety hazard to yourself.
After retreating to your bath towel set-up in the shade for a while, you had almost found new hope that the universe wasn’t against you that day. You managed to lie there, for a whole hour, without any issues. But then, slowly, another idea crept up on you. After all, what was summer without ice cream? By chance, you happened to know the little ice cream truck next to the yellow waterslide sold your favorite brand of ice lolly. So off you went, money in hands and wild determination in your head. The visual of the handsome lifeguard lingered in your mind even after you had passed the chair he was sitting on by the poolside. You acquired your ice lolly successfully and ripped the wrapper right away. It tasted like summer in food format, and you reveled in the cold treat for a while, as you strolled back in the direction of your bath towel.
Fully aware that you would have to walk by the insanely cute lifeguard again, you tried your best to look cool, next to the large pool. In your imagination, you were glowing in the sun, hair slightly flowing in the warm breeze and steps bouncing happily. You were the personification of summer bloom and radiating everything good about the season. For a moment, you closed your eyes and actually indulged in the warmth on your face. That was when the next mishap struck.
You didn’t even understand what was happening at first. Someone accidentally bumped into you – or did you bump into them? Upon the impact, you opened your eyes. Your ice-cream had vanished from your hands. Turns out, you had dropped it and it had landed only two feet from you. Out of balance, you stumbled ahead even after the impact. And of course, only a second later your foot stepped directly onto the ice lolly. Inevitably, you skidded and struggled to stay on your feet by means of flinging and waving your arms in the air. As if you were some stranger, trying to attract the attention of an aircraft whilst stranded on a desert island. One thing was for sure, you had everyone’s observance tied to you. With an involuntary but comedic performance of theatrical extent, you fell and hit the water surface.
The cool hit you so suddenly, you had swallowed a gulp of water before your instincts had time to set in. Quickly, your limbs began paddling to get you back to the surface. At that instant, a pair of arms suddenly linked under your armpits and swooped you up from underwater. Your brain processed what was going on. Without a doubt, someone had jumped after you and was pulling you out of the water. Stubbornly, you tried to avoid the idea of the cute lifeguard helping you out. Christ, that would really be the peak of all your embarrassing moments. No, it was probably the person you had run into, or someone who had already been in the water.
When you were placed by the poolside and blinked against the blending sun, your worst concerns came to pass. There he was, so close you could have touched his face. His worried expression changed when you opened your eyes, and he smiled, relieved. “Is everything alright?” he asked. You’d think this would make you into the most shamefaced person on the planet. And yet, all you could wonder was how two people’s genes could combine so flawlessly, so beautifully, to create such a man. When he got no answer from your moonstruck figure, he furrowed his eyebrows in alarm.
“Oh my- my god,” you stammered. “Yes! I’m fine, I’m sorry!”
You weren’t sure why you were apologizing. For worrying him? For inconveniencing him? For causing another scene? Either way, he grinned, and you felt your cheeks heat up terribly. You had to get away from there before something cringy came out of your mouth. Although you weren’t sure there was any way you could have made this more awkward than it already was.
“Make sure you have no injuries, okay?” he asked, helping you up. “If you need any medical assistance, just let me or one of the other lifeguards know.”
“Um…okay,” you said. Wow. That was no way to flirt with the most attractive person you had ever met. With all this drama you had gone through on that day, the universe could have at least blessed you with a romantic, your-life-savior-realizes-he-just-met-the-love-of-his-life moment. But no. The movies really were one massive hoax.
“It’s probably best you take a little break from the surprise, before you go back into the water,” he advised you. “And don’t hesitate to ask, if you need any more help.”
If only he knew how many times you had already tried to take a break from the surprise after everything on that day. You stood on your feet safely but felt like a cat that had fallen into the bathtub. At last, you managed a smile in the lifeguard’s direction. “Thank you.”
Funny enough, the stares people gave you bothered you only slightly as you walked back to your spot under the trees. Maybe you had used up all your embarrassment for the day. Nothing could intimidate you anymore. That meant, whatever happened from now on, it couldn’t get worse. Somehow after the pinnacle of chaos, you finally felt some inner tranquility. You went back to your novel, now and then keeping an eye out for potential water balls coming your way. But everything was calm. As time went on, you lost yourself completely in the story line and forgot about everything around you. Maybe this was all meant to happen. Perhaps it was a message, that you should have waited for your family to have a free day, or for your friend to come back from vacation. Would the same things have happened? There was no way to tell. Just as you reached a specifically exciting scene in the novel, a figure suddenly appeared in front of you. You couldn’t believe your eyes.
“Hey,” the handsome lifeguard stood there, smiling kindly. Wide-eyed, you straightened up and greeted him shyly.
“I couldn’t help but notice how happy you were about that ice cream earlier,” he said. “But then you…lost your ice cream.”
“What an interesting way of saying I stomped on it and made an absolute fool of myself,” you smirked. He chuckled.
“However you want to put it, I thought maybe you could use some cheering up,” he went on. “So I got you a new one.”
He pulled two ice-lollies from behind his back. “One for you, one for me.”
You couldn’t believe your ears. “You bought me this? I don’t want to sound rude… but aren’t you supposed to be looking out for the next victim to repeat my foolery?”
“I’m on my break,” he laughed. His eyes crinkled up cutely when he smiled, and it only made your stomach flutter more. “If you want me to leave, I will. I’m not trying to be weird or obtruding. Just making sure you’re okay, because I noticed you’re here alone.”
“Oh. No! Feel free to stay here for as long as you want!” you said, and now maybe you were the one sounding obtrusive. You scooted over and let him take a spot on your bathmat. You thanked him for the ice cream and gleefully unwrapped it. “My friends and family weren’t available today. But I really, really wanted to come here today. Maybe not my brightest idea.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve seen way worse plunges than yours. You were lucky, really. You got away with a small shock and nothing more. It was pretty impressive, actually.”
“I’m glad I have entertaining qualities, at least.”
“I’m just messing with you,” he laughed. “I’m glad you’re fine. This place gets a little wild during the afternoon, especially on weekends.”
“You don’t say,” you chuckled.
“I recommend coming here in the mornings or late evenings, if you want a little more peace and quiet.”
“Thanks, I’ll probably consider it. Do you work here full time?” you asked.
“No, this is just a summer job,” he said. “It’s great. I get to swim for free and be outside a lot. Not to mention this is one of my favorite places in town.”
“You love swimming too?” you asked and regretted it right away. A lifeguard who hated swimming made no sense, after all. But he didn’t seem to think your words were silly.
“I do! I come here a lot to swim, when it’s not as busy and I don’t have to work,” he said. The thought of seeing him again when you came back in a few days – which you already knew you would – made you feel some sort of way. You had been embarrassed, but his sweet words had appeased you. You could definitely get used to seeing his face all summer long. The two of you talked for some time, while you both finished your ice cream. You learned his name, which was just as beautiful as its owner, and that he thought you had actually looked pretty cute (!) when you fell into the pool. You swore he wasn’t even real. Perhaps he was merely a hallucination, a product of your imagination, to cheer yourself up after your messy day. Either way, your head was up in the clouds as long as he was sitting there, next to you, with his perfect shoulders and charming voice. Soon, he had to excuse himself, though. His break was over and as he had put it, he needed to prevent any more ice cream-murders from happening.
After your conversation, the universe had apparently shifted in your favor. You spent the entire rest of your day without any more misfortunes. Like you had talked to a lucky charm who had done miracles for you, you had a fantastic time. You were even brave enough to face a few more go’s down the ever-so-threatening waterslide. As it got later, more people went home, and just as he had predicted, things calmed down. And you were convinced you would stay until the bitter end. Only when a female voice announced over the speakers that the swimming pool would close in 30 minutes, you slowly started to pack up your things.
As you approached the exit, you scanned the area for your favorite lifeguard. But he was nowhere to be found. You assumed he had already finished his shift and gone home. But as luck would have it, as you neared the bicycle stands to retrieve your bike, you saw him already there. His eyes beamed when he noticed you.
“Wow, you held out a long time,” he said. “Had fun?”
“I did,” you said. You could only be grateful your ice-cream massacre was the sole of your antics he had witnessed that afternoon. Who knew how he would look at you if he had experienced your full chaotic capacity? “Thank you again, for making sure I was fine. And for the ice cream.”
“It was no big deal,” he said. “It’s what I’m here for.”
“To buy random girls ice cream?” you teased.
“No, only the special ones get the ice cream.”
“Define special.”
“To be honest? I was genuinely concerned you would feel down. I’ve seen you almost trip over when you first came in, you got hit in the face by a ball, I’ve witnessed your little quarrel with that bug and your somersault from the waterslide looked pretty rough. After all that you choked on water and then ended up falling into the pool and losing your ice cream. I supposed you could need some serious cheering up.”
Oh my god. If only you could have opened a portal straight to hell, you would have taken the chance on the spot. All this time he had been watching you? It couldn’t get more mortifying than this.
“Sorry, I sound like some creepy stalker,” he said. “I didn’t mean to stare. It’s just you-“
“I looked like a clown in a neon suit?”
“You’re really pretty,” he said. Your cheeks warmed up and you could have yelled out loud.
“But you have to admit, at least the clown part is true.”
“Maybe,” he joked. “Don’t be embarrassed. I thought you were – are – adorable.”
“Thank you,” you managed to say. What the hell were you doing? The most handsome guy was complimenting you. You had to take your chance. “Maybe sometime I could buy you some ice cream too? If you feel like it-“
“I’d love that,” he smiled. It was only the beginning of summer, but it was a glorious one. You already knew it could only get better. Instead of cursing the universe, you had to say your thank you’s now. Without your string of bad luck, things would have never led this way. Perhaps fortune was on your side, after all.

Wanna Be Kissed (Wolfstar)
Okay! So I’ve decided to start bringing some of my fics from Ao3 over here, mostly because I think it makes it a lil easier for people to find! Here’s the first one anyways! (Side note - any remus/sirius transferred will be wolfstar, not coops)
Sirius Black has never kissed a girl. In fact, Sirius Black has never kissed anyone, ever.
It’s not that the opportunity hadn’t presented itself, because Merlin, it had. Sirius was infamous in Hogwarts, the brooding Black boy, the first to not be sorted into Slytherin. The boy who ran away from home. The leather jacket wearing, wild haired, grey eyed mystery man.
Apparently girls were into that, if Sirius’s friends were to be trusted.
“What about Lucy Lancaster?” Peter whispered as the Marauders sat curled up in a corner, their corner, of the Gryffindor common room.
Sirius furrowed his eyebrows, looking across the room to the blonde girl in question. “The fourth year?”
Peter nodded, “Yeah, I mean, she’s only one year younger than us and she’s really pretty and smart.” He gushed.
Sirius looked over at his friend. “I think she sounds more like your kind of girl Wormy.” He said, standing up and moving to sit closer to the fire, grabbing his book off the coffee table as he went. He curled up on the cushy red sofa, but had barely opened the book to the latest page when James Potter himself flopped down next to him.
“I know there’s someone you fancy.”
Sirius didn’t look up from his book. “Do you now?” He didn’t need to look at James to know his friend was flushing a little red.
“Okay well, I don’t know.” He admitted. “But I do suspect.”
Sirius met his eyes, amused. “There’s a fair bit of a difference between knowing and suspecting Prongs. For example, I know that you’re one hundred percent head-over-heels in love with Lily Evans, but I only suspect that you were the one who put itching powder in Lucius Malfoy’s quidditch robes.”
“It wasn’t me.” James grumbled and continued when Sirius looked at him disbelievingly. “Really it wasn’t. That’s not my style… anymore.”
Sirius laughed, patting him on the shoulder. “Yeah I know, Evans wouldn’t approve.”
“Yeah but also I just think we’re a bit too mature for stuff like itching powder when our time could be much more productively dedicated to tasks such as perfecting the map.”
Both boys sighed longingly. The map, their pride and joy. It wasn’t quite perfect yet - they still had a few passages to fill in, but it was getting pretty close.
James shifted in his seat to face Sirius properly, and Sirius mirrored his movements.
“In all seriousness though Pads, you know you can talk to me, right?”
Sirius smiled at his friend in a way that he could only pray was reassuring and nodded. “Of course I know James. I promise if there was anything to know, I would tell you.”
James nodded and stood up. “Good. Okay, I’ll uh, leave you to your reading.”
James retreated back to the others and Sirius watched him go, watched him sit down next to Remus. Watched as Remus offered him a chocolate frog.
Sirius hadn’t been lying to James, unless you counted a lie of omission. There really was nothing to tell - nothing had happened per se. Nothing had happened… recently. Because Sirius Black had been in love with Remus Lupin for a long time.
Remus-motherfucking-Lupin. The bane of Sirius’s existence. The love of Sirius’s life. He had known for years. Known that the love he felt for James and Peter was very, very different to the love he felt for Remus. He didn’t imagine James kissing him. He didn’t take a deep breath whenever Peter hugged him, trying to memorise his scent. So yeah, Sirius has never kissed anyone, simply because it wouldn’t be fair. Not to anyone. Not when Sirius’s heart was no longer his own to give away.
“Pads, we’re playing exploding snap, do you wanna join?” Remus called from where they were all laughing and Sirius sighed, already standing up. He’d never been able to say no to his tawny haired friend.
“Deal me in.”
****
“Fuck!”
Sirius’s head whipped up at the sound of Remus cursing. “Moons?” He called, swinging his legs off the side of his bed and drawing back his curtains, “Are you okay?”
Remus sat on his own bed, a dripping mug in his hand. “Yeah sorry,” he grumbled. “I’m just a twat, I spilled my tea all over myself.”
Sirius but his lip laughing even as he grabbed his wand and spelled away the puddle on the floor. Remus caught the back of his t-shirt and pulled it off over his head in one swift movement that took Sirius’s breath away.
“I cast a cleaning charm.” Sirius stuttered uselessly, his eyes focused on Remus’s lightly tanned skin, the faint whisper of shining scars that moved as Remus stood up.
“I know.” Remus shrugged and Sirius just gazed at those powerful shoulders. “But I still feel it, you know? I just need a new shirt.”
Sirius nodded helplessly as Remus walked to the trunk at the end of his bed and pulled out another shirt. Sirius thanked Merlin that the other boy was faced away from him because there was no way he could disguise his gawking at the dips of Remus’s shoulder blades, the curved run of his spine. Fuck, Sirius would give anything to trace his fingers over that soft skin.
Remus tugged the shirt over his head and crawled back onto his bed leisurely. Sirius’s heart rate was anything but. Everyone assumed that Remus was super scrawny, and they had been right, at least at first. When Remus had arrived at Hogwarts, that’s exactly what he had been - a stick thin little boy with big caramel eyes. But a wonderful combination of a solid three meals a day, a growth spurt and having to stay fit in order to help him recover from his monthly adventures had resulted in Remus Lupin looking like he starred in wet dreams.
(Never mind the fact that he starred in all of Sirius’s dreams).
“G’night guys.” Peter called from behind his curtains, the rest of the Marauders chorused a sleepy response and once again, the dorm room was silent, unlike Sirius’s brain. No, his traitorous thoughts just kept thinking about what it would be like to make Remus shout ‘fuck’ again in a non-tea related incident.
(They were some pretty good thoughts).
****
“Hey Sirius.”
Sirius looked up from his breakfast to see Anna O’ Connell sliding onto the bench next to him.
“Hi?”
“There’s a trip to Hogsmeade today.”
“Yeah, I know.”
Sirius couldn’t quite decipher the look on Anna’s face at his response.
“So… are you going?” She asked, reaching forward and touching Sirius’s wrist lightly. Sirius looked over at the other Marauders who had all stopped eating to listen in.
“Yeah we’re all going.” Sirius said nodding his head at the others. “Aren’t we lads?”
Sirius could see James looking at him with wide eyes and a ‘what the hell are you doing?’ expression and Remus wasn’t looking at him at all. Peter looked nervously between Anna and Sirius for a moment before nodding. “Yeah we are.”
“Oh right, yeah okay.” Anna said, beginning to stand up. “I guess I might see you there so.”
Sirius shrugged. “I guess so.”
Anna walked away and before she was even out of hearing range, James punched his shoulder not-so-lightly. “Mate, what the hell?”
Sirius rubber his throbbing arm. “What was that for?”
“She was obviously asking you out!”
Sirius choked on his pumpkin juice. “Well apparently it wasn’t that obvious, cause I didn't know about it.”
Remus finally met his eyes, wincing slightly. “It was pretty blatant.”
Sirius sighed and slumped forward, resting his head in his hands. “Oh my god I’m so dumb.”
James nodded in agreement. “Yeah you are. But if you went after her now and just explained what happened I’m sure she’ll still go out with you.”
Sirius shook his head. “No I don’t want to go out with her. I just wish I could tell when people are asking me out. I feel like it’s probably something I should be aware of.”
Remus smirked and Sirius’s gut twisted. He loved that little twitch of the other boys lips. “Probably.”
Peter patted Sirius’s shoulder sympathetically. “Don’t worry about it Pads, I’m sure you’ll get it the next time.”
Sirius just stared down at his now-cold toast. “Yeah.” He mumbled. “Next time.”
Sirius sat down on his bed and fell back dramatically, staring up at the rafters of the dorm. His radar for girls asking him out had not improved, according to his friends a grand total of five girls approached him that week alone. He had only known one of them asked him out on a date.
(That was only because she said “Hey, wanna go on a date with me?”)
He had politely declined.
Sirius sighed and grabbed his little red ball he kept on his locker and threw it up in the air as he lay on the bed, finding the steady rise and fall soothing. Most of Gryffindor, most of the castle really, were all outdoors enjoying the first properly sunny day in a long while. He knew if he looked out the window, he could probably spot James, Peter and Remus all sitting under the oak tree they tended to frequent.
There was a knock on the door. “Sirius?” Remus asked, poking his head in.
Or maybe Sirius wouldn’t find them all outside after all.
“Hey.” Sirius said, stopping throwing the ball but not sitting up.
Remus lay down next to him. On the small bed, their shoulders were pressing together and Sirius could feel the heat radiating off the other boy.
“Why aren’t you outside?”
Sirius shrugged. “Just wanted to think I guess.”
“Will I leave you alone?”
If it had been anyone else asking? Yes, Sirius wanted to be alone. But for Remus?
“No, you can stay.”
Sirius resumed throwing the ball, every so often passing it to Remus to give him a go. They lay side by side in silence for several minutes before Remus spoke again.
“Hey Pads? Could I… ask you something?”
Sirius turned his head slightly just for a second to glance at him. “You can ask me anything.”
Out of the corner of his eye he could see Remus biting his lip for a moment as if choosing his words carefully.
“Why do you… why do you never say yes to any of those girls?”
Sirius’s heart stuttered for a moment but he took a steadying breath. “I just don’t fancy any of them.”
“But isn’t that the point of dating? To see if you could maybe fancy someone?”
Sirius laughed nervously. “I guess I wouldn’t know. I’ve never been on a date.”
Remus fiddled with the fraying cuff of his jumper. “Yeah me neither.”
They were quiet again for a moment before Remus started talking again. “Do you think you’ll ever ask one of them out?”
“The girls?”
“Yeah.”
Sirius shook his head. “No.”
“Why not?”
“Because it wouldn’t be fair.”
Remus huffed our a breath. “Come on Pads, that’s a non-answer.”
Sirius rolled his eyes at the typical Remus response, but his lips twitched. “I don’t fancy girls.”
He held his breath, waiting for Remus’s response. He didn’t think it would be bad exactly - he knew his friends! He knew he could trust them, he knew they loved him but sometimes no matter how much logic dictates otherwise, a tiny inkling of doubt can creep in.
“I’m not so sure I do either.”
Sirius wasn’t sure what kind of response he was expecting but it definitely was not that. He turned his head to see Moony already staring at him. They didn’t say anything - they didn’t need to, the look that flashed between them said enough. A quiet understanding. Remus’s lips quirked and Sirius’s eyes followed the movement before they resumed speaking.
“So is there a guy you fancy?”
Fuck this was dangerous territory. But Sirius couldn’t lie, not to Remus.
“Yeah.”
This time it was Remus who rolled his eyes. “Wow that was so descriptive.”
Sirius’s eyebrow arched. “It was a yes or no question.”
Remus huffed. “Fine, fine, don’t tell me.”
Sirius bit his lip. And rolled onto his side to face Remus. The taller boy did the same. “I don’t just fancy him, I’m in love with him.”
Remus’s breathing sounded uneven. “He must be incredible if you feel that way.”
It felt like there was an elephant standing on Sirius’s chest. “Merlin yes. He’s kind and thoughtful and I could get lost in his eyes forever. He runs his fingers through his hair when he’s thinking, when he’s studying I know he bites the top of his quill even though he denies it and when he’s nervous he plays with the cuffs on his jumper and it’s so cute and I -“
Sirius cut off as Remus’s hands stilled. Hands that had been fiddling with the cuff of his jumper.
“-And he’s one of my best friends in the entire world. He’s brave and strong and the best person I know. I would do anything for him.”
Remus stared into his eyes for, Sirius couldn’t even tell how long. It could have been seconds or hours but to be frank, Sirius couldn’t give a fuck either way. Remus’s honey eyes had flecks of dark brown in them and all Sirius wanted to do was map the splash of freckles on his nose. Remus bit his lip so hard Sirius was nearly worried he’d draw blood before his eyes became steadier, more decided. Sirius watched as Remus’s chest rose unsteadily as he took a breath.
“He’d do anything for you too.”
And fuck if Sirius didn’t want to cry. Or jump around laughing. Or shout with delight from the tower. But most of all, he wanted Remus.
Cautiously, so cautiously, he reached his hand out and traced the cheekbones he had so often admired, Remus shivering lightly under his touch. His hand dropped lower as he ran his thumb over Remus’s ever so slightly parted lips, able to feel his hot breath on his skin.
“Are you ever going to kiss me or am I going to have to do it myself?”
“Merlin, I love you.” Sirius breathed before doing exactly that. He leaned down and connected their lips, at first, just a bare brush, Sirius was being so careful, waiting to see if Moony would decide that, actually no, he wouldn’t be making out with one of his best mates today, but that never happened. Instead, Remus tangled one hand in Sirius’s hair and wrapped the other tightly around his waist.
“Kiss me properly you wanker.” Remus demanded and Sirius smirked before pressing his lips against Remus’s and for a moment, that was all he knew. The world could have exploded but all Sirius would have registered was the hot force of Remus’s lips on his own, the fingers curling in his hair and the hand pressing steadily into his waist.
They pulled away gasping, Sirius looking at Remus’s swollen lips with a smug delight. He had always wondered what Remus would look like after a good snog. Now he knew.
“I love you too.” Remus said simply, cupping Sirius’s jaw in his hand and caressing thumb over Sirius’s cheekbone. Sirius’s heart just about exploded and he quickly leaned down to reconnect their lips, gasping as he felt Moony’s leg wrap tightly around his waist and he pressed himself impossibly closer.
“I love you.” He murmured against Remus’s lips. “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
Sirius has never kissed a girl. But he has kissed someone. The best someone in his opinion. The only someone really. Remus-motherfucking-Lupin; no longer the bane of Sirius’s existence.
(But still the love of his life).

---
The door of the dormitory slams open and James Potter strides in. He crosses the room quickly, throws himself on his four-poster bed, letting out a groan as his face smashes into the pillow, glasses and all.
Sirius is lounging in his own bed, enjoying the treacle tart he pilfered from the kitchens just after classes ended. Chewing on his stolen treat, he silently studies his mate’s prone figure. He can all but feel the misery radiating off of James.
There are only two things that Sirius knows can send James into such an obvious show of despair: a defeat on the Quidditch field and Lily Evans.
As it’s a Monday and the next Gryffindor game is three weeks away, Sirius is left with one option.
For a while, he wonders if he should weigh in at all. For the sake of his own sanity, it might be better to just leave James to it. Maybe go down to the Common Room and find Peter for a game of Exploding Snap.
But then his conscience pricks him, reminding him that this heartsick idiot is also his best mate.
“What’s she done this time,” Sirius drawls.
“What?” James flops on his bed and stares at Sirius, his hazel eyes dull behind his glasses.
“What has Evans done to cause this cloud of doom?” Sirius asks again, waving his hand to compass James and his misery.
“You remember that she had a date with Andrew Buchanan last Hogsmeade weekend?”
Ahh, yes. That was right. James had been moping all weekend about that and wouldn’t even agree to sneak out to the Three Broomsticks on Friday night.
“I think you mentioned something about that, yeah,” Sirius answers, thinking back to the two-hour rant he’d been subjected to that Saturday afternoon when they’d come back from Hogsmeade.
“The date went really well, apparently. They’re officially going out now.”
Sirius swallows his knee-jerk response of so what with a grimace. “I’m sorry to hear that, mate.”
He’s not, really, of course. But he is sorry that James is reduced to this pathetic miserable lump because of Evans.
“He’s not good enough for her,” James declares sullenly. “Sadly, that’s up to Evans to decide,” Sirius replies, thinking Evans could do much worse than Buchanan. He’s an OK lad, for a Ravenclaw.
“I know.” James sighs. “It’s just… hard.”
Sirius weighs his options. And though he has approached this subject before – not always successfully, either – he can’t help to voice his honest opinion.
“Look, mate… Evans is great. But maybe the two of you are better off as friends, yeah? You’ve been mooning after her for years now and have only been making yourself miserable. I think it’s time to let go, Prongs. Time to move on.”
The silence in the room is so loud that Sirius has time to think up all manner of swear words, thinking he completely bollocksed it up again.
But to his surprise, when James does reply, his voice is quiet but assenting. “Yeah. I think you’re right, Sirius.”
Glowing with righteous victory, Sirius flashes James a smile. “Don’t worry, mate, I’m here for you.”
---
The party is raucous and in a full swing when Sirius, exhausted from all the dancing, plops down on an empty sofa in the corner of the Gryffindor Common Room. He takes a long swig from his bottle of Butterbeer – which might have been spiked with good strong mead courtesy of Hagrid, but no one’s the wiser which is how Sirius prefers to keep it.
Across the room, at the edge of the area designated as the dance floor, James is standing, his arm casually slung around Bethany Narang’s shoulders. He is giddy with his Quidditch victory, though that is probably not the only reason he’s let Bethany stick to his side all evening.
Prongs is finally doing it. Moving on. Sirius couldn’t be prouder and salutes him with his bottle.
He’s taking another long pull of the delicious mix of alcohol when the sofa dips down. Lily Evans slumps beside him, tucking her feet under her as she curls into the corner of the sofa.
“Rare to see you out of the action,” she quips once she’s settled.
Sirius slants her a glance. “Needed to take a breather. You’re usually out there getting your dance on, too.”
“I did, for a while. But I’m tired now.”
She looks tired, too, resting her cheek against the armrest.
“It’s ok to bow out early, Evans. No shame in that.”
“I know. I’m going in a bit.”
Silence settles over them. Sirius sips his drink. Lily rests. It’s peaceful in their little corner. Companionable.
And they have a good view of the rest of the room.
James bends his head to Bethany, whispers something in her ear. Bethany giggles, tilts her head.
Get it, Prongs, Sirius silently urges him, taking a sip of his mead-enhanced Butterbeer.
And he does.
“Funny,” Lily comments with a chuckle. “I never took Potter as the PDA sort.”
Her voice is light and airy, brimming with amusement. And as she watches Prongs snog Bethany in the full view of the entire Common Room, eliciting cheers and hoots and laughter and teasing from the crowd around them, Sirius watches her.
Lily’s lips are curved in a smile but something about it doesn’t seem quite right to Sirius. Her eyes, even in the dim room, seem duller and darker. Something lingers there, which Sirius recognises only too well.
“Neither did I,” he replies at last. “But it’s good to see him moving on, right?”
Lily’s smile twists. “Yeah. It’s great.”
Silence returns, but now it has an edge to it. Brittleness overlaying the earlier camaraderie.
Lily uncurls from her cosy position.
“Well, I guess I should go get some sleep. Good night, Sirius.”
“Night, Lily,” he wishes her, but she’s already walking away.
Sirius’ gaze trails her as she hurries through the crowd, giving a wide berth to James and Bethany, who’re still lost in one another.
Sirius scowls, uneasiness coiling in the pit of his stomach. He can’t quite shake that look in Lily’s eyes. What it might have meant. And whether he might after all be in the wrong.
---
It’s a sunny and warm April day and Sirius is in a great mood. There’s nothing better than being out with his lads and it’s a nice change to stroll the main street of Hogsmeade in bright daylight, no matter how much fun it is to sneak out in the evenings. They’ve just raided Honeydukes and left with their bags bulging. Remus and Peter have split off to go visit the book shop and the post office so Sirius is left alone with James to wander the village. A group of girls exits Madam Puddifoot’s down the street. Bethany Narang is among them and perks up at the sight of them, smiling and waving at James.
Sirius swallows a snort. Bethany has dropped more than one hint about the Hogsmeade weekend being a great opportunity for a date, but Prongs has brushed them off in good humour.
Now, too, he waves back to Bethany and then turns to Sirius. “How about Zonko’s?”
“Sure.”
They enter the joke shop, Sirius trailing after James. “You know, you probably could still snag that date with Bethany if you wanted, she seems interested.”
“Nah,” James replies as he meanders through the shop. “She’s nice and all but I’m not really interested.”
“Uhhuh,” Sirius says, wondering if his assessment of Prongs moving on was too hastily drawn. Still, he hasn’t really mentioned Evans once for the past week so that must be progress, right?
They browse through the shop but nothing really catches their eye.
“Should we go to the Three Broomsticks?”
“Yeah,” James agrees. “Remus and Peter will probably finish their errands soon, too.”
Back on the main street Sirius spots the dark red hair right away and grimaces. Lily Evans is walking ahead of them, hand in hand with Andrew Buchanan. They’re laughing together and Sirius slants a glance at James.
His gaze is fixed on the couple, his jaw clenched as he watches them.
“Evans looks happy,” Sirius carefully comments.
“She does, yeah,” James replies.
They walk a few more steps in silence.
“I’m glad. She deserves to be happy,” James continues.
They’re almost at the Three Broomsticks when James speaks up one last time.
“I’m happy for her.”
Behind his back, Sirius rolls his eyes. The strain in Prongs’ voice belies his words.
And later, as all four of them are together at a table, sharing drinks and laughs and enjoying themselves immensely, Sirius can’t help noticing that James’ gaze keeps darting to the corner table where Evans sits with her boyfriend.
Much as his mate is trying to move on, it seems to be easier said than done.
---
It’s Monday evening and Sirius is in a storage room in the dungeons, organising the items stored and refilling the jars and boxes and bottles littering the shelves.
Lily is in the adjoining Potion’s Classroom doing preparatory work for tomorrow’s lessons at Slughorn’s desk.
“I should get assigned detention with you more often, Evans,” Sirius quips, calling out to the next room. “This is the cushiest detention I’ve ever been in.”
“I didn’t do anything,” Lily replies. “Professor Slughorn intervened with Professor McGonagall. I figure he felt bad that we got into trouble because of Slytherins.”
“I’ve got into plenty of fights before with Slytherins and Slughorn’s done nothing to cushion the detention. So where I’m standing it’s all because of you.”
“Well, it’s all because of me and my blood status that the Slytherins jumped at us in the first place,” Lily says, her voice wry.
“I won’t let you hog all the credit for that,” Sirius counters. “I’m not very popular among their ilk either.”
“Not after that masterful Inpendiment Hex you aren’t. You’re a good partner to have in battle, Sirius.”
“Likewise. You’re quick on your feet and your wandwork is excellent.”
“Thank you. I’m glad to hear that. Especially after the scolding I got from Andrew.”
“Why would your boyfriend give you a hard time for getting jumped by a group of hex-happy Slytherins?” Sirius asks, baffled. He moves to the doorway of the storage room and leans against the doorframe to watch Evans.
“I think mostly he got angry because he was worried I might have got hurt,” she says. “He’s really sweet. But he does not approve of fighting.”
“You didn’t start it, though.”
“I know. I guess Andrew feels I shouldn’t have reacted with violence.”
Sirius snorts. Deep inside him, the bitter anger of experience simmers. “There’s no reasoning with bigots.”
“I could’ve walked away, I suppose.”
Sirius shakes his head. “No. Someone could’ve walked away, yeah. But not you. It’s not how you’re built, Evans. How we’re built.”
Their eyes meet from across the room and Lily smiles.
“Thanks, Sirius. That makes me feel better.”
“Don’t mention it.” Sirius shrugs.
Lily turns back to the Potion prep.
“Sorry for unloading you like that. I was a bit upset since it was the closest to a row I’ve had so far with Andrew. He’s been really great, but I guess there will always be things we disagree on.”
“Yeah, that’s only natural,” Sirius says. “You’ll figure it out.”
“I’m sure we will,” Lily agrees.
Or maybe they won’t. But Evans will manage either way, of that Sirius is sure.
And suddenly, he is taken back to the moment of miserable moping Prongs imparting him the news of how Lily had started dating. James’ sullen voice echoes in his head. ‘He’s not good enough for her.’
Now, a part of Sirius can’t help but agree.
---
Sirius lounges in a hammock in the Potter’s back garden, reading a book and enjoying the sunshine. It is quiet and peaceful and relaxing, which is all well and good… But inside, Sirius is starting to itch a little bit. Reaching that part of summer holidays when that giddy sense of freedom is starting to pass and there’s so much time and yet somehow very little to do.
Maybe he can talk James into going to visit Muggle London with him someday soon. They could go to the cinema, that would be grand.
And as if thinking of Prongs summons him, Sirius’ peaceful reading time is shattered when James strides into the garden.
He’s wearing a shit-eating grin and waving a letter in the air.
“Sirius! You’ll never guess what happened.”
“OK, then I won’t.”
“Just got a letter from Marlene, she says hi –”
“Tell her hi back then.”
“– and she says Evans broke up with Buchanan.”
“What shocking news,” Sirius replies, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “It was only a matter of time, really.”
“What?”
“I had a feeling, back when Lily and I were stuck on detention together and she told about their fight. Different opinions and personalities.” Sirius shrugs.
“And you didn’t tell me?”
“Why would I have? You told me just last week, and I quote, that you were ‘totally over Evans’.”
Though for someone who’d voiced such a lofty claim, James is looking much too happy about Lily’s breakup, in Sirius’ opinion
“Well, I am! Obviously,” James insists. Sirius remains unconvinced. “But we’re still friends, right, Evans and I! So I still want to know how she’s doing.”
“You should practice holding your grin in check before you go and offer her your heartfelt consolations,” Sirius tells Prongs.
He shakes his head and stalks off.
Sirius gets back to his book.
Three weeks later, another letter arrives, this time causing much more mayhem. Sirius is skimming through the lines of his own letter when James bursts into his room.
“Did you get yours, too, Prongs?” he asks, not even bothering to look up from the parchment as he’s busy taking in the book list.
“I got more than I bargained for,” James says, flopping down next to him on the bed.
Sirius frowns and turns to slant him a glance. “What do you mean.”
“Look at this.”
Sirius does. He stares at the gleaming object on James’ palm, trying to make sense of it because surely it can’t be what it looks like.
“Is that a Head Boy pin?” he asks.
“Yes,” James says.
“And it was enclosed with your letter?”
“Yes.”
“And you’re sure they haven’t made a mistake?”
“Yes.”
“Bloody hell, Prongs. Are you planning on going all respectable on me, now?”
“I guess I’ll have to be,” he says and tugs at his hair as he often does when nervous.
Sirius can’t blame him. Poor bloke, having so much responsibility shoved onto his shoulders. Still, better Prongs than him. At least Prongs will likely do a decent job of it. Although…
“Do you know who the Head Girl is?”
“Yeah, actually, they told me that in the letter too.” James’ fingers are making even more of a mess of his hair and he isn’t quite meeting Sirius’ eyes so he knows the answer already.
“It’s Lily, isn’t it,” he says, and when James nods, Sirius isn’t sure whether to laugh or cry.
---
Less than a month into the autumn term, Sirius is deep in the stacks in the Hogwarts library, actually trying to get homework done for once – and if he can look up some charms and hexes he can appropriate for pranking purposes, all the better. He can multitask. But his diligent work is rudely interrupted by Lily Evans.
She sits at his table without an invitation and leans her elbows on the table. "You're a hard man to find."
“I’m not trying to be found, I’m trying to work,” he replies, trying to ignore her.
“Well, can that wait for a bit?”
Sirius’ head snaps up with that. Lily Evans, encouraging him to put off homework? Sure enough, there is something troubled lurking in her green eyes and she’s biting her lip.
“What do you need, Lily?” he asks, his tone gentler now.
“Just a moment or two of your time. And some… information.”
“Information on what?
Her cheeks look a little flushed now and there’s a sudden sinking feeling in the pit of Sirius’ stomach. Surely, she can’t…
“James used to fancy me, right? I mean he even asked me out that one time in the fifth year though I don’t think he was being serious… But I wasn’t just imagining it, right?”
“You weren’t imagining it, he was pretty into you,” Sirius replies, feeling much like a deer in headlights at this entire conversation.
“But he must have moved on by now, right? I mean he still can’t… Can he?”
Sirius pinches the bridge of his nose, wondering what dastardly deed he has done to earn this privileged position of being a soundboard for Prongs’ and Lily’s respective love lives – or lacks thereof.
He levels a stare at Lily and crosses his arms. “Why do you want to know?”
“I broke up with Andrew during the summer break. After three weeks or so back home at my parents’ I just suddenly realised I didn’t miss him at all and that isn’t really a good sign so I figured… Anyway, I got my Hogwarts letter at last. I got my Head Girl pin. And I read that James Potter would be the Head Boy. And that’s when I realised I had feelings.”
That last word comes out as a hiss and Sirius raises his eyebrow.
“You have feelings for James,” he echoes, wondering at the universe’s perverse sense of humour.
“Yes. And I don’t know what to do about them. Or if I should do anything about them. I mean I don’t even know if there’s a chance that…”
“Look, Lily,” Sirius cuts in. He’s had enough. “I’m sure this all is a shock to you and I understand that you want a confirmation about certain things before you can decide what to do about it all but you’re going about this all wrong.”
“What do you mean?”
“You shouldn’t be talking to me. It’s James you need to seek out and have a chat with.”
Her shoulders hunch. She deflates in front of his eyes and gives a slow nod.
“You’re right. I’m sorry I bothered you.”
Lily gets up and slinks out.
And though Sirius doesn’t regret his words and knows he’s in the right, there are pricks of guilt plaguing him when he returns to his homework.
---
A month goes by. A whole month of stolen glances and longing stares, of too-loud laughter to one another’s jokes. Of flushed cheeks and biting lips, of mussed-up hair and awkward grins. Of gravitating towards each other’s company. Sitting together in class, heading off to Head Student meetings and Prefect meetings, sharing a sofa in the Common Room.
A whole month of small meaningless conversations, of yearning not given a voice, of a thousand important words going unspoken.
Lily Evans hasn’t talked to James.
And after a whole month of their nonsense, Sirius is fed up with both of them.
---
Sirius opens the supply closet and James strides in; starts to rummage through the shelves.
“What kind of a prank did you have in mind?” he asks, rifling through all the piles of assorted items stuffed into storage and then promptly forgotten about. “Replace the regular ink with vanishing ink? Put an Anti-Cheating Charm on all these spare rolls of parchment here? Oh, maybe we could hex the quills to –”
“Expelliarmus!”
James’ wand is yanked from his hand. It soars through the air to Sirius’ waiting palm.
James whips around to frown at his mate.
“What the hell, Sirius?”
“This is for your own good, Prongs,” Sirius says. Then he shuts the door and locks James into the closet.
---
Lily sets down the textbook and scowls at Sirius. “Missing? What do you mean James is missing?”
“I mean James isn’t here or in the dorm and no one knows where he’s gone. He could be locked in a supply closet for all that I know,” Sirius says, throwing his hands in the air in frustration. “Anyway, I thought you might want to help me look for him since it isn’t a good look for the Head Boy to be wandering about after curfew.”
“Give me a second, I’m coming.”
Lily runs up the stairs to her dorm room and leaves her textbook there. As she’s heading out the door, she grabs a pouch off of a side table and stuffs it into her pocket. She rushes back down to the Common Room, where Sirius is tapping his foot.
“Let’s go,” she tells him and Sirius jumps to match her step as they climb out the portrait hole accompanied by the sleepy grumblings of the Fat Lady.
“Where could that idiot have got off to,” Lily wonders out loud, tucking her wand behind her ear.
“Let’s try this way first,” Sirius suggests.
Eventually, they stroll along the abandoned fourth-floor corridor, when a muffled sound around the corner catches their attention.
“Come on. You’ve had your laugh, you can let me out now.”
Lily turns to share a quick glance with Sirius. “That’s James.”
She sprints ahead, rounds the corner and zeroes in on the rattling handle of a supply closet just a few yards out.
Lily shakes her head in disbelief and then she’s running over to grab the handle.
“James? We’ll get you out, just give me a moment.”
“Lily? Oh, thank Merlin.”
Lily reaches for her wand – only to realise it’s no longer there, tucked behind her ear.
“What?” she stammers, turning around.
Sirius is holding her wand and pointing his own at her.
“Sorry, Lily, but needs must.”
“Sirius, you bloody bastard!” comes James’ muffled yell from the closet.
And then quicker than Lily’s brain can catch up with what’s going on, the closet door springs open and a well-aimed shove has her stumble against furious James.
They collide and stagger – and behind them, the closet door ominously bangs shut, followed by the definite click of the lock.
“Well, bugger,” James mutters in her ear and Lily can’t help but to agree.
---
James thought being locked in a supply closet was bad, but being locked in a supply closet with Lily Evans is infinitely worse. Her floral scent is teasing his nose and in the enclosed space he can feel the heat radiating from her body and it’s all very distracting. It’s hard to remember that he’s completely over his silly old crush. The darkness isn’t helping either. Evans is standing close, but he can only make out an outline of her, hand stuffed in her pocket. He can feel the weight of her stare on him, it’s making his neck tingle.
Rather than deal with any of that and those pesky fluttery emotions he’s most definitely not feeling, James turns and slams his fist at the door.
“Enough, Sirius! What the hell is wrong with you?”
“With me?” His incredulous voice comes through the door. “What the hell is wrong with you two idiots? I told you, Lily, all you had to do was to have one conversation but no!”
James glances at Lily. “What is he talking about?” he whispers, but Lily only shakes her head.
“So you two stay there and listen. Prongs, you’ve been pining after Evans for years now. It’s pathetic and we all know it and no matter how many times you tell me you’re over her, it’s painfully obvious you aren’t. Lily, you know I was right and you know you’re overdue a very honest conversation so just acknowledge your feelings and talk already for my sanity’s sake! Get it over with. I’ll be back for you in the morning.”
James’ ears seem to be ringing and he’s a little light-headed. The muffled sound of Sirius’ retreating footsteps is deafening in the thick silence shrouding them.
Flustered, James buries his fingers in his hair and slumps against the door. “I’m really sorry about this, Lily. He’s clearly lost his bloody mind.”
“No, he hasn’t,” Lily sighs. With a rustle of robes, she sits down on the stone floor, wrapping her arms around her knees. “He’s right, actually. And if either of us owes an apology for this mess, it’s me.”
James slides down to sit on the floor as well, his long legs stretched out. He frowns at her vague outline, wishing he could see her expression. Maybe that would help him understand.
“What do you mean?”
“There’s something I need to tell you, James. I just haven’t been able to. I’m not sure when it actually started. Probably it’s been going on a while, I just haven’t been aware of it. But then, last summer there just came a moment when I realised what had happened.”
James’ heart is beating faster now, his breath caught in his throat. He thinks he knows what Lily is talking about, but it can’t be right. He doesn’t dare to hope.
Lily’s voice is soft in the darkness. “You’re funny and fit and brilliant and sweet and kind and clever and brave and bold. So it’s no wonder that I fancy you.”
Time stops and the world tilts. James’ mind can’t quite process the words but his heart is singing and pure emotion balloons in his chest. A victorious roar rushing through his veins.
James’ brain is still stuck on trying to catch up with Lily’s confession so there is no conscious thinking involved. He reaches for her in the dark and pulls her close. Her fingers trail up his arm, her hand settles on his shoulder. Her hip brushes against his raised knee. His hand finds the small of her back.
Her breath is warm, that teasing floral scent intoxicating, the bare skin of her neck like silk under his fingers.
And then his lips crash against hers or maybe she leans in to press hers against his – it doesn’t really matter because it’s a kiss of James’ dreams. The one he has yearned for so very long and the reality is so far beyond anything he has imagined. He didn’t think such a perfect kiss was possible. And in that moment, and all the moments that will follow, he loves Lily Evans all the more.
---
Lily shifts her weight, trying to settle. She doesn’t want to move, leaning against James and resting her head on his shoulder is the happiest place she’s ever been.
But the stone floor is hard and cold and her bum is growing numb.
So she squeezes James’ hand and asks: “Do you want to wait until morning?”
“I mean I can’t complain about the company but I wouldn’t want to spend a whole night stuck in a supply closet. Not that we have much choice.”
“Well…” Lily drawls, slipping her hand out of his. “We do, actually.”
“What?”
Lily gets up and takes a few short steps to the door. From the pocket of her robe she pulls out a small pouch and reveals the lockpick she’s been carrying with her.
And then she sets to work. She can feel James’ gaze bore to her back as she carefully jiggles at the tumblers in the lock. Once they each click to place, she straightens and swings the door open.
In the torchlight streaming in from the corridor, she meets James’ eyes. Their hazel depts are muddy with mixed emotion – awe, amusement, incredulity.
“Are you telling me you could have done that the whole time?”
“Yes.” Lily shrugs. “But then, Sirius went to a lot of trouble and he was right about us needing to have that long-overdue discussion.”
James’ grin is wide, his hazel eyes warm in a way that makes Lily’s stomach flop.
“Lily?”
“Yes?”
“I’m going to kiss you again now.”
She smiles bright enough to light up the night and steps closer. His arms come around her just as she threads her fingers in his hair. As promised, his lips claim hers – slow, sweet and lingering.
It's the kind of kiss she can lose herself in, a kiss that makes the world fall away, a kiss that bends time so that five seconds feel like forever. It's the kind of a kiss that makes Lily fall in love with James Potter all over again.
---
End.

Something about her
Sirius x Veela!Reader
I’m writing this more from Sirius’ POV which is new for me so don’t be too harsh 💕
For the third time in the same class Sirius caught himself staring at the shiny head of hair two rows in front of him. The way your delicate hand ran through the soft locks made him want to reach out his own fingers and tangle them in your hair. He only snapped out of his trance when James kicked his foot under the table causing his gaze to snap to his friend in a glare.
“Mr. Black, if you would be so kind to keep your eyes on your own work.” Professor Mcgonagall’s voice cut through his thoughts.
“Sorry Professor,” Sirius turned on his signature smirk and turned his attention back to the front of the class where she stood with her arms crossed. He watched you turn in your seat ever so slightly to sneak a peek at the disturbance and raised one eyebrow at Sirius with a small smile playing on your lovely lips. He purposefully caught your eye and sent you a cheeky wink causing you to laugh silently and shake your head before turning back to your parchment.
“Padfoot you never get this hung up on a girl, I don’t get it,” James nudged his friend later that day as the group of boys lied splayed out under their favourite tree on the grounds.
James was tossing his snitch up and down as his signature activity. Remus had a book clutched between his fingers and seemed oblivious to the ongoing discussion. Meanwhile, Sirius was entertaining Peter by scorching explicit drawings into the grass beside him with his wand.
“She is very pretty,” Peter piped up from beside him and followed Sirius’ gaze to where you could be spotting laughing with your own group of girls.
“Sure, but lots of girls are pretty,” James rolled his eyes, “hasn’t changed anything for our dear old shaggydog has it?” his gaze flicked back to Sirius with a small smirk.
“Just because you’re too in love with Lily to notice other girls doesn’t have to put a damper on my emotions Prongs,” Sirius snorted and started on drawing a little dog in the grass.
“Yeah but why her?” he pressed, as if they hadn’t had this conversation before.
“Everyone in our year fancies her!” Peter chimed in again with big eyes, clearly trying to appease both boys.
“And everyone in the year below,” Remus added to the conversation without looking up from his book.
Sirius shifted his gaze from the ground back to your little group. You weren’t too far away, if he wanted to call you over he could. The thought popped into his mind suddenly as one of your friends pointed at the marauders and your head turned to face the boys, once again locking eyes with Sirius. One of your friends whispered something to you and your face suddenly lit up with a gorgeous sunny smile as you let out a laugh that almost melted Sirius’ heart on the spot.
“Hey Y/N! Come here!” Peter suddenly yelled over at you and both Sirius and James stared at him in shock.
Peter was never the loud one. Never the one to surprise the boys. And yet somehow, he was the only one in the group who had the balls to call you over. Sirius watched you stand up from your spot on the grass and walk over, a slight bounce in your step leaving your giggling friends behind. Peter’s face was red, and he immediately dropped his gaze to the ground in front of him and started picking at the grass with his stubby fingers. Remus was peeking over the top of his book with interest as you approached the boys with a sweet smile.
“Hey guys!” You grinned, Sirius had never noticed how bright your smile was. At the same time he noted how your canines were slightly more pointed even than his. “What’s up?” You drew his attention back to the present.
There was a moment of uncomfortable silence as Peter almost tried to sink into the floor as you looked at him for a moment with a questioning glance. When it was clear Peter had nothing to say, Sirius decided to speak up on his behalf.
“Pete just wanted to know how you did on the Transfiguration quiz today, we’re debating if you’re smarter than Remus.” A lazy smile occupied his face as you let out a soft chuckle.
“I did alright, but I know for a fact I could never be as smart as Remus,” you smiled at the boy next to Sirius whose ears turned a bit pink as he shot you a sheepish smile and disappeared behind his book.
“Well I know for a fact you’re smarter than me so maybe you could help me study sometime,” Sirius’ cocky personality coming back easily even though his heart sat in his throat every time he spoke to you.
“I’m sure you’d do a lot better in class if you applied yourself,” you smirked slightly and glanced down at his wand, “you know, if you studied instead of violating the grass.” You nudged his foot aside with your own to uncover a crude drawing of Snape.
“Alright, fair enough,” he barked out a laugh and pointed his wand at the grass in front of him, a daisy rising out of the earth this time. He plucked it and stood up to stand in front of you and felt a rush of confidence, “Go on a date with me instead. No studying required.”
He’d never seen you blush before, especially because of him. Sirius decided winning the house cup wouldn’t make him feel any happier than the sparkle in your eye and the pink tinge of your cheeks did.
“Alright Black, meet me by the greenhouses at ten Friday evening,” your chin tilted up almost challengingly as he towered over you by about a head, “After all, I know you don’t have a problem sneaking around after hours.”
“It’s a date,” Sirius winked and tucked the daisy he was still holding behind your ear, pushing your hair back in the process.
“See ya later boys,” you grinned as you backed away from Sirius with a little wave at the rest of his group.
Turning on your heel Sirius stayed standing as he watched you walk away back to your friends with a dazed look in his eyes. You turned to look at him one last time with a little pink still evident on your cheeks. Sirius flopped back onto the ground with a content sigh and looked around at James who was watching the entire exchange with an open mouth.
“How did she do that?” James finally prompted with an incredulous look.
“Huh?” Sirius shook his head, “that was all me darlin,” he snorted.
“No Sirius,” Remus chuckled lightly, “that was all her.”
“Who knows, there’s just something about her,” Sirius grinned and leaned back on his elbows, still looking your way.
James let out a laugh at Sirius’ blank expression as Remus sighed and tucked his book back into his back. Peter was still staring at the ground, his blush finally fading.
“You don’t know?” Remus looked at him with a piercing gaze, “She’s part Veela. Apparently, it runs in her mother’s side of the family.”
“Now it all makes sense!” James exclaimed in triumph and continued tossing his snitch up in the air, satisfied with his answer.
“Yeah but you don’t think…” Sirius trailed off and looked over to where your group had vacated their spot on the grass.
“No, I mean, she definitely likes you.” Remus reassured him as Sirius grumbled to himself and went back to angrily scorching things in the grass.
It made sense. Why he was so extremely drawn to you wherever you went. Why every boy’s eyes seemed to drift to you when you walked by them. Why Peter had the sudden confidence and urge to call you over just now. Was that the only reason he liked you? Did you manipulate him into liking you? He wasn’t so sure anymore. He was however determined to find out this Friday.
The classes leading up to your date seemed to creep by. Sirius spent half the time psyching himself out about being too excited and the other half questioning whether he even had any say in his emotions. On the fateful Friday he kept bouncing his leg under the table to the point where Peter asked him if someone had cast a jelly legs jinx on him.
When ten finally rolled around that evening he was striding towards the greenhouses with a nauseous feeling in his stomach. He’d barely been able to finish his dinner that evening and was just about to hurl up what little he did get down. You were leaning against the glass greenhouse nonchalantly, dressed in a muggle jumper and jeans his heart rate only sped up. When you finally noticed him, a smile took over your face and Sirius suddenly forgot all about his worries and his nausea melted away.
“Hi,” You sounded almost shy as Sirius approached you.
“Hey,” he heard himself speak, almost sounding out of breath.
“I want to show you something,” you smiled and held out your hand. He took it without hesitation as the two of you walked down the grounds.
You asked him about how classes were going and about some of his latest pranks with James. He happily told you stories of the marauders and you barely stopped laughing long enough to keep walking to the side of the black lake. In the back of his mind though Sirius couldn’t help but think about what Remus had told him earlier that week.
“Okay, trust me on this,” You interrupted his thoughts as you reached the edge of the grounds by walking along the edge of the lake.
“Wait, Y/N,” He tugged on your hand lightly to come to a stop together. “Remus told me something and I just need to make sure-“
“My great-grandma was Veela.” You stopped him, “People like to blame a lot of things on that.” You fiddled with the hems of your jumper and broke eye contact.
“I’m sorry I just-“
“Thought I might have been influencing your emotions?” you offered him a sad little smile, “You wouldn’t be the first to think that, don’t worry,” you shook your head, “but no, that’s not exactly something I can do.”
“Oh, well I can’t-“
“date someone who’s part Veela?” you bit your lip and looked away.
“For Merlins sake if you would stop interrupting me you’d see that I’m obviously mad about you and can’t wait to rub it in James’ face how horrendously wrong he was!” Sirius gently grabbed your waist and pulled you towards him. He couldn’t stop admiring the tiny embarrassed smile that was growing on your face.
“Sorry,” you huffed and wrapped your arms around his shoulders, “I should’ve known you’d be remarkably cool about this.”
“Now now, don’t beat yourself up about it, you’re only supernaturally beautiful, not a mind reader.” Sirius winked and gave your hip a soft squeeze as a laugh escaped your lips. “Can I kiss you?” He grinned.
“No,” you kissed his nose and pulled away with a chuckle, “but only because you’re going to want to see this first.” You tugged your jumper over your head in one smooth motion and dropped it by the edge of the lake.
“As much as I am loving where this is going, I don’t see why I couldn’t kiss you first.” Sirius stopped himself from pulling you back into him. The tank top you wore under your sweater did little to hide your body and he had to stop looking at you in order not to actually drool like a dog.
“Oh shove off Black,” you laughed and unzipped your jeans, stepping out of them. “You coming or what?” you smirked at his baffled expression as you bit your wand between your teeth and dove into the Black lake.
“Oh for fucks sake Sirius,” he mumbled under his breath to himself as he watched the ripples from your splash calm down. He quickly stripped down as well with a shake of his head and dove in after you. Following in the direction you’d swam in.
After diving deep enough to swim under one of the large rock structures at the edge of the bounds you rose back to the surface and Sirius followed your paddling feet. As soon as his head broke the surface of the water he let out a soft, “whoa”.
It was a small cave with bright crystals covering the walls, every crystal was a slightly different shade. You drew up out of the water and onto the dry surface of the hidden alcove. Your hair was soaked and your shirt clung to your body but the grin on your face was the only thing Sirius could look at. In the glow of the cave you still outshone it all.
“Come here,” you gave him your hand and helped him up, “watch this!” you smiled brightly and touched one of the purple crystals. It emitted a low hum, you then poked a blue crystal and it hummed at a different pitch. The more crystals you touched the more it started to sound like music.
“This is insane, how did you find this?” Sirius asked once the sound had dimmed and you’d turned back to face him.
“One of the mermaids showed me in my fifth year,” you admitted and looked around happily, “it calms me down.”
“The mermaids like you?” Sirius looked incredulous, “what am I saying of course they do, everyone likes you.” he rolled his eyes good naturedly.
“Oh yeah, they always have the best gossip, they love to chat,” you looked up at him, “they think you’re very handsome you know.”
“Really,” Sirius’ cocky grin slid back into place.
“No,” your laugh bounced around the walls adding to the music, “but I think I might know someone who does.”
He tucked a strand of your wet hair behind your ear as you raised up on your toes to press your lips to his ever so softly. His arms steadied you by wrapping around your waist and pressing you to him. He could feel you smile against his lips and he couldn’t stop his mouth from mimicking yours with a slight chuckle.
“You just had to ruin a perfectly good friendship didn’t you,” Sirius muttered against your lips.
“And you ruined a perfectly good moment,” you muttered back before letting out a squeak as Sirius scooped you up into his arms and kissed you back, gently pressing you against the wall. A chill ran down his spine as you played with his curls and it wasn’t from the cool splash of water.
“You know as romantic as this was, I’d much rather kiss you without rocks digging into my back,” you laughed as Sirius set you down.
“Such high standards,” he scoffed and winked before wrapping his arms around your shivering form, “come on, let’s go get warm.”
“Last one back is a flubber worm,” you ducked out from under his arm and dove into the water with a laugh as he chased you.
“Now that’s a girl after my heart,” he said to himself before diving after you.

Magic!
Part 8 of the series Vacation
This is a TICKLE series
PLATONIC Avengers x reader
Warnings: Mentions of separation anxiety.
Summary: Y/n has a lot of fun messing with Bucky and Steve under Wanda’s magical protection, but what happens when Wanda and Vision have date night, leaving Y/n at the cabin unprotected from the vicious super soldiers?
Tumblr media
Steve had carried you up to your bed after the two of you made up. You nearly fell asleep in his arms with your head on his shoulder. He was careful to not wake Natasha when he laid you down. The last thing you remember is Steve kissing your head before you fell asleep.
Is this what it is to be unconditionally loved by someone? No matter how mad you made them, they’d still be willing to forgive you the same day, and love you the same, if not more. When you were in the HYDRA base, you expected that was what your whole life would be. Never escaping, ruled by the evil that killed your mother for falling in love with you and wanting a better life for you. You knew if you tried to get away, they would kill you too.
You remember spying on Captain America one time. He was wearing regular clothes, a hat and sunglasses. He was with Natasha. Your job was to find out what they were doing. You never would’ve believed that man would become like a big brother, father, uncle, or best friend to you. You never knew how to properly describe what he is to you. He is just… Steve. You knew Steve wouldn’t hesitate to lay down his life for you. You would do the same for him.
You knew Steve’s heart. You knew he missed the past. You knew he still missed his mother. You knew he had struggles that he kept to himself. You knew he was pure, and a good man. You wanted nothing but for him to be happy.
...
  “Y/n.”
You heard your name being whispered and felt yourself being shaken softly awake.
  “Hmm? What?” You mumbled confused.
“Open your eyes!” The voice whispered.
You knew exactly who it was. You opened your eyes to meet the all-too-familiar warm, brown eyes.
“Peter?” You asked. “What do you need?”
  “Let’s go swimming!” Peter whisper-yelled.
You rolled over and saw the clock read 7:02 a.m. A morning swim sounded nice, and it was beautiful and sunny outside, the birds were chirping and you could see a slight breeze blowing through the pines out the white paned windows.
“I’ll meet you downstairs in five.” You whispered.
Peter smiled and left the room.
You hopped out of bed and went into the bathroom to change into your swimsuit. After you changed you brushed your teeth and made your way downstairs. Peter had towels and sunscreen ready for the both of you.
“I’ll make us some iced coffee. You better put sunscreen on, Peter Benjamin!” You scolded.
“Yay coffee! And I wiiiill-uh!” Peter groaned.
You chuckled and pulled out the ingredients for the drinks. You were surprised that you and Peter were the only two awake. A lot of times, the adults woke up before you.
You brought the glasses of iced coffee out to the pool deck. You walked up the steps to find your best friend lounging in a lounge chair with his favorite pair of sunglasses on (that Tony gifted him with).
“Peeeter? Did you put sunscreen on?” You asked, suspiciously.
  “Yes I did!” He nodded
You picked up the sunscreen only to find out it was a brand new bottle… and the seal was yet to be broken. You smirked and walked over to him, towering over him.
He slightly pushed his sunglasses down to peer over them at you.
  “What Y/n/n?”
“Don’t you “Y/n/n” me, you liar!” You exclaimed dramatically, holding the sealed sunscreen to his face.
Peter smiled guiltily with a blush.
You dug your fingers around his collarbones and neck to tickle him.
“AHAH! Y/N! Nohhohoho!” Peter began, kicking frantically.
“This is whatcha get!” You teased in a cute voice, projecting your adoration for him.
He was too cute for his own good.
“Y/n! Plehehehease! I don’t want suhuhunscreehehen!” Peter cried through his ticklish agony.
You switched to scritching around his belly button, making him scream.
“You better wear sunscreen or I’m gonna get Tony!” You warned.
Peter’s eyes went wide at you.
“OKAY! OKAHAHAY! I will! Plehehehease stohohop tickling!” He whined through his laughter, obviously threatened by the thought of you getting Tony.
You ceased the tickles and began opening the bottle of sunscreen, grinning to yourself over what just happened.
“I’m going to get you back for that miss Y/n.” Peter said, sitting up on the edge of the lounge chair.
“No Peter! You can’t!” You whined.
  “And why not?”
“I made you coffee!” You argued, pointing over to the glasses with the cute swirly straws.
“Oh alright. You’re safe... for now.”
You furrowed your brows at him with a smirk. “Stand up.” You ordered.
Peter did as told and you began spraying his back and shoulders with sunscreen. You reached up to rub extra on his upper back and shoulders where he most often burned for extra protection.
When Peter had all his sunscreen on, he grabbed the bottle to help you. He sprayed your tummy and rubbed it in, but made sure to make it tickle by digging his fingertips into the skin.
“Hehehehey! Yohohou said I wahahas safe!” You giggled, flinching away.
Peter smirked evilly.
“I’m just trying to help you! Gosh!” He fibbed.
You rolled your eyes and finished applying the sunscreen.
You and Peter spent the next twenty minutes sunbathing by the pool, drinking the refreshing iced coffee and letting the sunscreen set in. Peter had tanned so much over the trip. Tony was right to be so strict about Peter wearing sunscreen because of his skin. Your skin was glowing too, and you felt extra confident in yourself. Luckily, being surrounded by such encouraging and accepting people really helped you feel good about yourself. You had been degraded a lot growing up by the people at HYDRA. They always wanted you to feel weak, so you’d do what you were told. They sucked. However, you always knew you were beautiful, because your mother always told you so, and instilled that in you. You missed her, even though you were so young when she passed. You were glad Bucky was such a good father and that he was in your life. You always felt it was a miracle that Sam spotted you that dreadful morning. Here you were now, enjoying a beautiful vacation with a family to call your own.
It was now July 1st, and this was your last week here. Steve’s birthday and the Fourth of July was just three days away. There were big plans for the week and you still felt you had plenty of vacation left.
You and Peter finally jumped in the pool, doing flips, splashing each other and laughing. You had some random, deep conversations, but you also found yourselves laughing so hard your abs ached. You floated on your back, looking up at the blue sky through a semi-circle of pine tree tops. It was so beautiful and you could smell the evergreens in the fresh, mountain air.
You and Peter were soon quietly laying on pool floaties, sunglasses on. This lasted for a while, until something felt different. You felt like you were floating, not on the water, but… above the water. You and Peter opened your eyes to see you were six feet above the pool. Familiar red magic surrounded you.
“WANDA!!” You and Peter screamed in unison, before being dropped and flipped into the water.
You came up from the water and you both couldn’t help but laugh.
“What was that for?!” You asked.
“Breakfast is ready!” Wanda cheered, turning and going back inside.
“That was fun!” You and Peter said in unison.
  “Jinx!”
After you and Peter got out of the pool and dried off, you went to your rooms and got ready for breakfast.
You walked into the kitchen to see everyone awake.
“How was your morning swim?” Wanda asked with a smirk.
“It was quite relaxing… until… you know.” You answered with a smile.
Wanda patted your head and placed your plate in front of you. It was your favorite breakfast and you were hungry after swimming, so you dug in.
Steve plopped down next to you and gave you a loving smile. You returned the smile with a blush. He rubbed the middle of your back lovingly.
“When did you two make up?” Bucky asked before taking a bite of his food.
  “At like midnight.” You said.
Steve nodded.
“Yeah I got up to use the bathroom and I heard Y/n laughing. I thought “Dang! It’s too late for all that!” said Sam, sitting across from you.
You and Steve laughed.
After breakfast, everyone had spread out and was doing their own thing for a while before it was time to get ready to go down to the town to have lunch and go to some gift shops.
This was the first time you had really been alone for the trip, so you were just kind of exploring the cabin. You opened the closet by the front door and found things that made your heart soar! Bubbles, jump ropes, hoola-hoops, and a big bucket of chalk. You grabbed the bucket of chalk and slipped on your flip-flops. You went out the door and found a shady spot in the small looped driveway and began drawing all kinds of doodles. You were actually working pretty hard on them and wiped some sweat off your forehead from the heat.
“What are you doing out here, kid?” Sam asked, walking down the porch steps to you.
You gave him your bubbly smile and showed him your work.
“Oooh you found the sidewalk chalk!” He said. “I’m impressed! These are cute!”
  “Thank you!” You exclaimed.
  “Mind if I join you?”
  “Please!” You answered.
You and Sam drew, laughing and enjoying each other's company.
“Now let me show you something we used to do when we were kids.” Sam started, taking what he knew was your favorite color.
He began swirling the chalk in circles, until it created a thick layer of chalk on the ground.
“Okay, now watch.” He said, and then pressed his whole hand in the chalk, coating it.
You smiled wide. “That’s such a good idea!”
Sam made his hand print on the concrete and you did the same, dipping your hand in it, and placing your hand print next to his. Sam dipped his hand in it again, this time placing his print on your shin.
“Hey!” You giggled and placed your print on his arm.
Sam laughed and poked your sides, making you squeal. You placed your print on his shirt.
“Oh it’s on!” Sam challenged and you both began racing, swirling all different colors of chalk on the ground and covering each other in chalk, all while laughing up a storm.
Bucky opened the door and walked out to find you two. Purple chalk in Sam’s beard, blue and pink chalk in your hair, orange chalk on Sam’s face, yellow and blue on your face, and your clothes looked like the rainbow. Bucky’s mouth hung open.
“What in the world?” Bucky blurted.
  “Hi Daddy!”
“Uhh hi Y/n…” Then, Bucky smirked. “Hi Sam!” He said in a teasing voice, obviously amused to see Sam in such a childish state.
“Hey.” Sam said seriously, waiting to be teased to the ends of the earth by Bucky.
Bucky, however, wasn’t going to tease him. He thought it was really sweet how big, tough Sam could be a kid with you. You loved that too.
Wanda walked outside to see the scene, a giant smile on her face.
“Smile you two!” She said, holding her phone up to take a bunch of pictures, which you and Sam had fun with- making funny faces, throwing up peace signs, and hugs.
Steve walked out to see what was going on and his contagious laughter rang throughout the cabin. He had never seen Sam like that. Sam just rolled his eyes and laughed with him.
Tony and Peter soon walked out.
“Oh sweet! Chalk!” Peter cheered, running down the steps to draw something.
“You guys better be hosed off before you come inside dragging chalk all over the place!” Tony scolded. He really just wanted an excuse to spray you with the hose.
You and Sam walked over to the hose and Tony followed, a mischievous grin on his face.
“I can do it myself!” Sam snapped, taking the hose and spraying himself down.
You felt like messing with Tony, so the perfect idea came to your mind.
“I’m just going to go inside like this.” You shrugged, walking towards the house.
  “Uh! No ma’am!” Tony scolded.
“Yes sir, I am!” You replied, giving him a playful look before running toward the front door, flip-flops flying off.
“Y/N! NO!” Tony yelled, chasing you around the yard.
You giggled as you ran and would squeal any time he got close to catching you, but you were doing good. Natasha made you run almost every day.
Bucky, Steve, Wanda, and Peter laughed as they watched the chase.
It had been too long and Tony decided to call for backup. You stood in the middle of the yard, away from Tony. Your heart sank with nervousness. What was he going to do?
“Cap! Help me get her!” Tony shouted.
Steve bit his lip with a grin and started slowly walking down the steps, cracking his knuckles.
You curled in on yourself where you stood in the grass and screamed. Steve started running toward you. You knew you were done-for, but you ran anyway, circling behind the trees. Tony stayed behind catching his breath.
Your feet slammed against the grass and you could hear Steve close behind. You stopped and turned around. He was right there and reached out to grab you but you dove between his legs and came out the other side, and barely made it, much to your surprise. You got away. You launched to your feet again and sprinted, but this was Captain America. Next thing you knew, you felt his arms snake around your waist, making you scream again and you were lifted up in his arms. He laughed evilly.
  “Got her, Tony!” Steve cheered.
“Thanks Cap! Hold her down for me?”
“Why of course!” Steve answered, a teasing tone in his voice.
You just took the time to catch your breath because you knew you wouldn’t be breathing much longer. Steve laid you on the grass.
“I must say, Y/n, that was very good! You’re a good runner, and you dodged me! I’m impressed!” Steve praised you.
That made you really happy. He was impressed with you!
Steve saw you smile at that and tilted his head and smiled back. He saw how much his approval meant to you and he noted that. He used that as a reminder to keep that in mind.
“That’s the last time you run from me, Y/n/n!” Tony said, towering over you and wiggling his fingers at you.
“I’m sorry, Tony! Plehehease dohohn’t!” You begged.
“Too late!” He said, and immediately began dancing his fingers around your belly, causing you to burst into your belly laughter, making Tony and Steve both smile and look at each other over how cute it was.
Peter who was drawing with the chalk looked up with a smile at Tony tickling your tummy and he got butterflies and blushed. He knew what you were going through, that’s for sure. He decided it was probably a good time to go inside and get ready to leave.
“I’m gonna… go inside.” Peter said to Wanda, slipping past her.
“Probably a good idea.” She giggled, rolling her eyes.
Steve laughed along with you as he held you down to let Tony tickle you. Tony was now squeezing your sides and you were laughing like a maniac.
“Plehehease let mehehe gohoho, Steve!” You squealed, dying for him to let you move.
“Okay, if you say so!” Steve responded, releasing his grip on your wrists and joined Tony in tickling you. Steve dug one hand into your belly and the other in your armpit while Tony continued tickling your ribs and sides.
 “NOOOO! AHAHAHAHAHA!” You screamed.
The feeling of being tickled by two people at once was like torture, and all you could do was squirm and laugh. You couldn’t admit you were actually having fun. Once Tony’s hands found their way to your knees, and Steve’s to your neck, you couldn’t stand it any longer.
“STAHAHAHAP!” You cried, making Tony and Steve laugh.
“NO!” Steve teased, and he and Tony continued, making you think they weren’t going to stop.
“PLEHEHEASE!’ You squealed, finally making them stop.
“Well that should teach you.” Tony smirked.
You blushed at him with a playful smile, sitting up in the grass.
“My hands are covered in chalk now!” Steve laughed.
“Looks like the Care Bears threw up on us.” Tony chuckled, standing up, pulling you up with him.
“I have an idea!” You perked up.
Next thing you knew, you, Tony, and Steve were standing on the edge of the pool.
“3...2….1!” You counted down, and the three of you jumped into the pool, laughing and splashing each other.
Everyone was getting ready to go to town. You were now showered and dressed, standing on the back porch practicing braiding Thor’s hair while Natasha did yours.
“Am I doing this right, Nat?” You asked her, showing her the progress you made on Thor’s long, blonde hair.
Nat looked over your shoulder.
“Hmm, you’re getting there. It’s a little lop-sided.” Nat smirked.
“I’m gonna restart it.” You said for the fifth time.
“I’m sure you’re doing a lovely job, Y/n.” Thor encouraged.
Suddenly, Tony stepped out on the porch. He was nearly ready and you could smell his cologne. You liked that smell.
“Hey Nat, you’ve got a call from Barton.” Tony said, holding up his phone.
“Oh okay, I’ll be right there. Thor, can you finish her hair, please?” She asked, stepping inside.
“Of course!” Thor said, standing up. Your progress on the new braid fell from his hair.
“Aww. That one was looking straighter!” You whined.
Thor chuckled and began running his fingers on the nape of your neck, collecting your hair. It made you shiver and scrunch your shoulders.
“Does that tickle?” He asked with a smirk.
You got butterflies and blushed, but you nodded.
“Now why doesn’t that surprise me?” He asked, sarcasm in his voice.
You rolled your eyes and let him finish your hair.
When he was done, he picked you up and threw you high in the air, making you shriek. He caught you and you giggled.
“Tony, I want to talk to you about something.” Bucky said, walking into the kitchen where Tony was.
“What’s up?” Tony asked, filling up everyone’s water bottles.
“Well, with everything that happened with Y/n the past few days… I was thinking she really needs social interaction with kids her age.” Bucky suggested.
“Oh, definitely.” Tony replied, giving Bucky his full attention.
Tony had suggested this before, but you had said you really wanted to be homeschooled. You wanted to be home with the Avengers as much as possible. You really hated being away from them.
“Y/n has bad separation anxiety… but as her dad, I just can’t let that rule her life. I want to help her overcome it.” Bucky explained.
  “You are absolutely right, Barnes.”
Steve, who was leaning in the doorway, entered the kitchen.
“It has really taken a bit of a toll on her.” Steve added, catching their attention.
“I just don’t know how on earth we’re going to get her to do it.” Tony said, shaking his head. “I don’t want to force her into anything.”
“But at the end of the day, we can’t just sit back and let her continue to be taken over by fear.” Steve sighed.
“That’s why I was thinking we don’t send her to school. We get her involved in some extra-curricular activities. She’s way too talented to not be!” Bucky said.
Steve and Tony agreed. They actually felt excited about it. They wanted Y/n to be happy, and to start developing more of her own life.
“I think we should get her to try a few different things, and let her pick the things she likes best.” Bucky added.
“That is a fantastic idea, Buck.” Steve smiled.
“Alright, we’re all in agreement. We’ll talk to her when we get home, and this Fall, we’ll get her started.” Tony concluded, patting Bucky’s back.
The three grinned at each other.
“Alright, everyone in the van.” Tony urged.
Steve and Bucky climbed into the backseat of the van, leaving a space between them. You looked at them, and then looked at Wanda and Vision in the middle seat.
“I’m going to be smart and NOT get myself trapped between you two.” You said to Bucky and Steve.
“Awww really? We weren’t gonna do anything!” Bucky whined, sarcasm evident in his voice.
“Yes! You can sit with us!” Wanda cheered happily.
You smiled brightly at her and Vision. Vision leaned over and lifted you into the vehicle and placed you in between him and Wanda. You giggled at that. You loved Wanda and Vision. They always looked out for you, and you knew Vision would always be an ally to you. If it weren’t for him, you wouldn’t have gotten to experience Asgard.
“Aww come on!” Peter groaned, standing outside the van when he saw he was going to be stuck between the two super soldiers.
They chuckled.
“I don’t think we’re very popular amongst the kids, Buck.” Steve smirked.
  “Sorry Peter.” You apologized.
Peter dramatically sulked his way into the seat. He didn’t actually mind. He enjoyed playing around with them.
Pepper and Tony got in the front and Natasha, Sam, and Thor took the other car.
Tony put on his music and everyone in the car was jamming and having fun. You were watching the pretty scenery out the window in front of you when suddenly you felt thirty fingers (5/30 which were metal)  fluttering around your neck. You squealed and scrunched your shoulders up.
"What?" Bucky teased. "You thought we wouldn't find a way to get you from back here?"
Bucky, Steve, and Peter were all giving you little tickles on your neck and shoulders. You were red, gasping for air as you cackled.
  "Silly girl!" Steve chimed in.
"Oh, do you guys ever quit? Let her be!" Wanda hissed protectively. Still, she couldn't help but smile at your state.
"I guess they tickle her because… it is quite adorable." Vision grinned.
Vision’s statement made you blush more.
"STAHAHAP!" You cried as they continued to torment you.
Just when you thought you wouldn't be able to take it anymore, you felt a pair of hands leave your neck. You immediately knew they were Steve's.
  "BUHUHUCKY! STAHAHAP!" Steve shouted.
You felt the other two pairs of hands leave your neck.
 "IHIHIT'S NOT MEHEHE!" Bucky cried.
"WHAHAHAT'S HAHAHAPPENING?" Peter joined.
You looked back to see the three of them in stitches, clutching their torsos and squirming.
Something red caught your eye, and you looked down to see Wanda's fingers wiggling, the scarlet magic dancing around her hands.
You smiled wide and turned around to watch the three superheroes in ticklish agony. Pepper and Tony saw what was going on and were cracking up themselves.
Steve, Peter, and Bucky (much to his dismay) begged and begged for Wanda to stop.
"No more torturing poor Y/n! Deal?" She asked.
 "DEAL!" They hollered.
Wanda ceased her magic and grinned at you.
  "Thank you, Wanda!" You smiled.
"You're welcome." She said cooly. "You want to know how they felt?"
"Yes… I MEAN NO!" You answered, realizing what she meant.
Next thing you knew,  the ticklish sensation was now going through your belly, and you'd never felt anything quite like it. Sure, when Steve would tickle you, you'd feel his fingertips wiggling into your ticklish spots, making you laugh so hard you could barely breathe, or when Bucky would squeeze your thighs in just the right way, you'd cry with laughter and thrash around, or when Peter would blow a raspberry on your neck and you'd feel the ticklish buzz all the way up to your ears- this was different. It tickled deeper, and you felt that you'd collapse into madness before too long, or just straight up pass out. You'd be surprised if any of them dared to tickle you in front of Wanda again.
Wanda saw your reaction and knew to let up.
"Do you know what that feels like?" You asked her, residual giggles pouring out of you.
"Yes. I based it off how I'd feel when Pietro would tickle me." She answered with a fond smile.
"Ooooh you poor thing!" Peter said sincerely.
Wanda laughed.
"I think the magic makes it… a little worse." She smirked.
 …
All the Avengers wore hats and sunglasses in an attempt to not draw attention to themselves. Thor even wore Earth clothes. Tony had F.R.I.D.A.Y. monitoring to make sure no one or nothing could take pictures or record without permission, in order to protect Peter's identity. People may be suspicious of him being Spider-Man, and walking around in the suit wouldn't help with drawing attention either. Needless to say, you all were safe and free to have a normal day at the town.
After lunch, you and Peter ran ahead of everyone into the first gift shop. The gift shop looked like a cabin and there was lots of lake and forest themed stuff. There were tons and tons of friendship bracelets, t-shirts, hoodies, little knick knacks, and more. Tony let everyone get pretty much whatever they want. You and Peter picked out various bracelets and necklaces, and even got matching tie-dye shirts.
As you all walked around town into the many different stores, Bucky gave you a piggy-back ride. You were quite grateful he didn’t get tired, because your leg was bothering you a bit. Bucky didn’t set you down until you were at the snow cone stand. Everyone got their favorite flavors and you were sitting at the picnic tables, enjoying the shade of the umbrellas. You sat in between Bucky and Sam. You were feeling playful and you knew you could mess with Bucky, Steve, and even Peter, because you had Wanda to protect you.
You smirked to yourself and reached up and ruffled Bucky’s hair. He smiled at you a first, but then you did it again. He raised his “claw’ but stopped when Wanda gave him a look. He sighed and you giggled to yourself. This is going to be fun. You squeezed Bucky’s thigh under the table, making him slam it on the bottom of the table with a loud BANG! You laugh hysterically as everyone else was confused about what just happened.
  “Y/n stop!” Bucky urged.
You figured you’d give him a break and mess with someone else. Everyone finished their snowcones and began walking to the next location. You were going to walk next to Peter and maybe mess with him, but you soon found yourself being lifted up high in the air. You didn’t even flinch as this was a common occurrence. Steve placed you on his back to give you a piggyback ride, not knowing he just made himself your next victim. You slipped your hands to his ribs and scribbled. Steve let out a loud laugh and nearly dropped you.
“HEHEY! NOHOHO Y/N!” He shouted through his laughter while you couldn’t help but giggle.
He attacked your knees and shins the best he could while you held on.
“Steheheve nonono!” You giggled, but he kept going. “WANDA!” You shouted, catching her attention.
Steve slowly stopped tickling, locking eyes with Wanda.
“I’m normally up for a fight… but I'm on vacation.” Steve huffed.
Wanda smirked at you and you grinned back. She was letting you get your revenge and you were having a field day. You reached up and scribbled all over Steve’s neck and ears, making him scrunch his shoulders up and cackle.
“Ahahahaha! Alrihihight, thahahat’s enough!” Steve declared, prying you off him and setting you down.  “Go get someone else, would ya?” He said, gently pushing you away.
You laughed at him and skipped into the store. Steve shook his head with a smile.
“Y/n come here! Do you like these, sweetheart?” Bucky asked, standing in front of a display for really cool friendship bracelets.
You gasped. “I love them! Can we get matching ones?” You asked him.
“That’s just what I was thinking.” Bucky grinned happily and picked out two to go check out.
You went with him to the check out and you were so excited for the bracelets, but your mission wasn’t over. You had to get as much revenge tickles in as possible before Wanda’s protection from them was no longer over you. So, as Bucky was talking to the lady at check out, who was very cute, you snuck your fingers around his waist and started tickling him.
Bucky’s eyes went wide as he was reaching into his wallet, and he tried his best not to squirm and laugh. You were having trouble holding in your laughter yourself. The clerk was very confused as she couldn’t see you tickling him, because the counter was tall, blocking the view of Bucky’s belly. She tried to make conversation with Bucky who was frozen in ticklish agony and would be so embarrassed to break out into laughter in front of her. This was too good, and pretty mean, but you couldn’t resist.
“Have a nice day!” The pretty lady said with a smile.
“You too.” Bucky managed to say cooly, with a smirk. He grabbed this little bag with the bracelets and turned around in your arms. You ran outside and he followed quickly after you.
“OH YOU LITTLE- THAT WAS HUMILIATING!” Bucky thundered, but he couldn’t help the smile creeping on his lips.
You clutched your torso in hysterical laughter.
“OH I’M GONNA-” Bucky snatched you up in his arms baby style, and lifted your shirt up a bit, the cold metal fingertips slowly slid across your belly. He was ready to give you the biggest raspberry of your life, but was soon cut off by your cries for help.
  “WANDA! WANDA!”
Wanda looked over and instantly shot tickles at Bucky and he collapsed into laughter, and set you down. Wanda ceased her magic and you got away.
  “How fair.” Bucky grumbled sarcastically.
You struted back over to him with a mischievous smile. Bucky sat down on a bench and had a little bit of a nervous look on his face. Were you coming back to tickle him some more? You weren’t. You came back because you were ready to wear your new bracelet.
“Let’s wear our bracelets now.” You said sweetly.
“Okay.” Bucky smiled at you adoringly.
He got the bracelets out of the bag, and you tied his on his right wrist first. He was now tying yours on.
“Do you like it?” He asked.
  “I love it.”
Once he had it tied on you, you were ready to go, but he yanked you very close to him by your wrist, making your eyes widen in surprise.
“Don’t think I won’t get you back for your shenanigans, Y/n, because I am going to.” He warned through gritted teeth.
You gulped. He pulled you closer and placed kisses on your cheek making you giggle. You got butterflies at the thought of his revenge, but you knew it was worth it. Bucky stood back up, towering over you, and you were on your way.
You figured Peter would be your final victim of the day, but you saw he was having such a good time with Tony, and you didn’t want to interrupt that. Peter had practically been glued to Tony’s hip all day. You saw he was happy and maybe he just needed Tony right now. Plus, you were saving your future self from a third person wanting revenge.
When it was a time to leave, you stood behind Steve as he climbed in the van and you rapidly poked his sides.
“Y/N! NOHOHO!” Steve yelled as he quickly got into his seat.
You giggled, and then found yourself being scooped up into Vision’s arms.
“Are you having fun tormenting Steve and Bucky, Y/n?” Vision teased, holding you baby style.
You nodded, making Vision chuckle. He sat down in the van, still holding you.
“You know, Y/n, Wanda can’t and won’t protect you from me.” Vision said in a teasing tone you don’t hear often enough.
Wanda smirked at him.
You smiled up expectantly at him. He scribbled into your tummy and you curled in on yourself and began laughing and squirming, but he held you still in his arms. Wanda giggled at the sight.
“I bet that tickles, doesn’t it?” Vision teased through his smile. He had never tickled you before, because he figured you got enough from everyone else. You were very flustered, but were really loving this. Vision plopped you down into your seat, giving you a few more pokes with a chuckle. You blushed, residual giggles pouring out of your smile. You definitely felt closer to Vision after that.
You all had been back at the cabin for about two hours. You, Wanda, Natasha, and Pepper lounged in the sun by the pool for a while and now you were inside changed. You sat on your bed reading when Wanda came in all dressed up.
“You look so pretty!” You gasped.
“Thank you, Y/n! Listen, I came here to warn you.” She whispered.
You dropped your book and sat up.
  “About what?” You asked nervously.
“I’m not going to be able to protect you tonight. Vis and I are having a date night.” She said with a grin.
“No! You can’t! You have to stay!” You begged.
She rolled her eyes. “Y/n, we’re going!”
“Oh alright… have fun then.” You sighed with a smile.
Wanda ruffled your hair lovingly and left.
You grabbed your book and a flashlight off the nightstand. You were going to hide in the hall closet and read until she got home. It’s not that you were scared, but you felt way too bashful to face Steve and Bucky. You knew if they got a hold of you they’d not only tickle you, but tease you into oblivion. So, you got comfortable in the upstairs hall closet ready to hideout for the night.
“Where’s Y/n?” Steve asked, walking into the living room.
“Hiding.” Bucky answered. He didn’t know where you were hiding, but he knew Wanda was gone for the evening, and wasn’t there to save you from the soldiers’ wrath.
“Hiding? Why?” Tony asked, sitting next to Peter on the couch watching a movie.
  “She’s scared.” Bucky smirked.
Steve chuckled and crossed his arms. “Huh. I’m gonna find her.”
He began searching the downstairs of the cabin, not finding you anywhere, so he decided to check the upstairs.
You were lost in your book when you heard footsteps. Your eyes widened and your breathing quickened. You quietly turned off your flashlight and held your book to your nose. The footsteps got closer and you squeezed your eyes shut. You knew the footsteps, too. Steve.
Suddenly, the door swung open and the light flicked on. You looked up at Steve. You gave him your famous puppy dog eyes.
“Hello!” You said to him innocently.
“Well hello Y/n/n! Enjoying your book? Tell me, honey, why are you hiding in the closet?” Steve teased.
“I just like it in here. It’s nice and quiet!” You shrugged.
Steve tilted his head at you and raised an eyebrow at you.
You couldn’t look him in the eye. You screamed when he snatched you up.
“NOHOHOHO STEHEHEVE DOHOHON’T!” You squealed, curling in on yourself.
“I’m not even doing anything!” Steve laughed.
   “But you’re gonna!”
“Awww Y/n! You know me too well!” Steve teased.
“I see you got her!” Bucky said, entering the hallway.
“You know, I think you guys should just let me go.” You shrugged.
“And why would we do that? After what you pulled today?” Bucky seethed through gritted teeth.
“Steeeeve don’t do it pleeease? I just wanna read my book!” You whined, leaning in to give him butterfly kisses on his eyelashes. This always melted his heart.
“Awww. Maybe we should just have mercy on her.” Steve supposed, returning the butterfly kisses and pressing his nose to your cheek.
“Oh you are such a chump! Snap out of it!” Bucky ordered, snatching you from Steve and throwing you over his shoulder, carrying you into the room and throwing you on your bed.
“I gotta say… you had me there, Y/n! But not anymore!” Steve teased.
Bucky immediately attacked your belly with raspberries. You squealed and laughed and pushed at his head, but he wouldn’t let up. When he finally did, Steve grabbed your ankle and pulled you toward him, making you yelp. He shook his hand into your tummy and you belly laughed your heart out. Butterflies always swarmed into your stomach when Steve did this. He just laughed at you as he sent you into ticklish agony. Bucky laid down on his side next to you, propping himself up on one arm and danced his fingers around your neck while Steve continued to shake your tummy.
“It’s so easy to tickle you to pieces!” Steve teased, making you blush.
“Aww look at her blush!” Bucky joined, sitting up and pinning your arms above your head. Though you put up a fight, he got them down and dug in your armpit.
You screamed with laughter.
“Get her feet, Steve!” Bucky demanded, now, digging into both your armpits while you trapped his hands by throwing your arms down. Classic.
“NOHOHOHO!” You shouted, while Steve put your ankles in a headlock.
Bucky ceased his tickles to hold you down.
“Y/n I have a question for you.” Steve stated, that teasing tone never leaving his voice.
“What!” You spat, catching your breath. You couldn’t hide the smile on your face that said you were having fun.
Steve shook his head and shrugged at your sass. He slowly dragged a single finger up your foot from your heel to your toe. You giggled and flinched.
  “Does that tickle?” He asked.
  “Yes.” You said unamused.
  “Okay, and what about this?”
He scribbled his hands across both of your feet and you screamed and laughed and kicked.
Bucky just laughed at you and began tickling your ribs. You went crazy with laughter and began begging for mercy.
“PLEHEHEHAE PLEHEHEASE STAHAHAP! PLEHEHEASE! I CAHAHAN’T TAHAHAKE IHIHIT!” You cried.
  “Should we stop, Buck?”
“Yeah let’s stop.” Bucky chuckled, letting you go soon followed by Steve.
You caught your breath.
  “That was mean.”
“You asked for it.” Bucky shrugged.
“I always ask for it. I don’t know why.” You admitted with a blush making them smile.
“When will you learn, Y/n?” Steve teased, rolling onto you and attacking your neck with raspberries.
You were laughing, enduring Steve ticklish raspberries when suddenly his raspberries turned into laughter, and of course that still tickled you.
“Are you torturing my Y/n/n, Steve?” Nat quipped, as she squeezed his sides. Steve collapsed with laughter next to you.
You sat up and watched her tickle Steve. She finally let up on him and he sat up with you, wrapping his arm around you.
  “My Y/n/n!” Steve claimed.
“Uhhh no! My Y/n/n.” Bucky said, taking you from Steve.
You looked at all of them.
“First one to bring me a bowl of ice cream loves me the most!” You challenged.
Bucky dropped you on the bed and you watched them all fight their way out the door.
You laid back on the bed, rolled your eyes and smiled. You loved them more.

Arleigh drives down the old back road, top down, and music blaring.  Carefree as she could possibly be.  When who should she spot, but the cute little worker bee that builds for her dad, kicking at his old Ford truck.  She takes a quick giggle and turns around, “You need a ride, B?” she asks with the sweet sunny smile.
Beau looks at her cute little nose all scrunched up before back at his truck.  Reaching his hand in his pocket for his phone, “There’s no service out here.  I won’t bite,” she giggles tapping her passenger seat, “Where ya going?”
Beau sighs and walks to the other side of the car, flopping on the seat, “Easy on Lucky now.  I’d hate for you to have to fix her up again,” Bunny leans forward smiling at his permanent scowl, knowing it’s her goal to get him to smile, and hopefully laugh.
“You can just take me home.”
Her eyes wander around, knowing exactly where the boy lives, “You’re a long way from home.  You don’t have to be so grumpy, it’s a beautiful day.  The sun is tickling your skin.”
“I was needing to check something at the cabin, but that hunk of shit just broke down.”
She fakes her own angry scowl, “Oh well maybe he wouldn’t do that if you gave him a proper name.  How about?” Beau cuts his eyes to look over to her, still she hadn’t drove off.  “Ooh I got it, Maynard.”
“Maynard?”
“Well, you treat him like he’s an old man.  Maynard, I’m going to make sure that Beau gives you proper care.  But for now, I must take him to the cabin.  Alright, B.  Lead the way,” Beau only stares at her slightly confused, and slightly entranced, but still doesn’t speak, “Well fine, if you don’t show me where to go, I’ll drive around and guess which cabin is yours.”
Turning the radio up she blares, ‘Don’t Stop’ singing every word.  Hand floating like an airplane beside the car.  Beau smirks and finally says, “Take a left,” her own self not even responding just giving the road ahead a sunny smile.  He continues to give her directions to his cabin, and starts recoiling in on himself because there’s so much to do, and there’s not been much progress.
“Uh, listen, it’s not much to look at right now...Your dad, James, and I we’ve been putting some extra hours here, but...” she squeals when she sees the cabin, causing Beau to sink further down on the seat.
“Beau, it’s beautiful out here!  You’re on the water!  There’s no neighbors.  I’m so jealous,” throwing the car into park she runs to the water’s edge.  Rucking up her dress to dip her toes in.  “Could you imagine just wake up for an early swim?  And the cabin.  She’s got good bones.”
“That’s what I say.  Come on, I’ll give you a tour.”
He guides her in starting in the living room, “Windows!”
“Huh?” he turns looking at her.  Her hips jutted forward as she moves her hand in front.
“I mean, that’s a pretty good window, but stay with me...windows.  All across, like you get to see that view every morning and night, why not make the most of it.  Windows, B.”
Continuing to give her a tour when she hears the rain on the old tin, “Oh shit!” she runs to the outside, jumping in the bug to put up the top.  By the time she’s finished she’s already soaked.  Giving a little shrug, Arleigh extends her arms and starts spinning and dancing in the rain.  Head tilted towards the heavens with the biggest smile.
“Uhh, Bunny?”
“Come on, Beau!” her voice beckons.  Curling up her finger to wiggle at him.  He shakes his head leaning against the door frame, “It’s summer and I’m already wet anyways.  Just come and dance with me, let the rain wash you free.”
She stops her spinning only to give him a smile.  Her hair hanging down by her face, and the flowy dressed caked up around her body, but he just shakes his head at her, “Arleigh, get out of the rain.”
She starts singing even louder, “Thunder only happens when it’s raining,” peeking up at him quickly before adding, “Come and get me if you want me out of the rain,” her body wriggles and dances even closer to him, pulling at his hand before she’s dragging those long legs out in the rain with her.
He mostly just stands there, letting the little girl lift his arms up to spin around, but she does get a smile, “There ya go.  That one even reached your eyes.  When the rain washes you clean you’ll know.”
Beau freezes when he sees her happily dancing around her.  Hearing the lyrics for the first time.  Understanding he needed to truly wash her out of his mind, but then those same feelings with Bunny arise in his mind...it terrifies him. “What?” she asks panting from her dancing and laughing.  “Did it wash you clean?”
Beau turns to walk into the cabin, confused Arleigh follows.  Having to take four steps to his one, before he stops abruptly causing her to crash into his back.  “Beau, wh-what happened?”
“Nothing.”
“No, you were having fun.  And then just stopped.  What happened?”
He looks down at her kind eyes.  The pattern of freckles that scatter across her nose, and she gives that adorable nose scrunching smile.  “I’m sorry whatever it is I did.  We were just...I thought you were having fun.  It’s okay to have fun, ya know?”
He takes a deep breath, and one step further from Bunny, “I’m...” stopping and refusing to tell her how scared he is, afraid he’d have to explain further.  “It started to lightening.  We can stay here ‘til you dry off.  I’ve got some extra clothes upstairs.”
Arleigh follows him, his own sad face spreading onto hers.  Almost embarrassed by the amount of foolishness she had been doing to try and get him to smile.  He hands her a towel, and a shirt of his, throwing in a pair of boxers, “You stay here?”
“Sometimes.  None of my siblings live at home, and my parents they’re...well I don’t know.  I’d rather be here alone and working on things than be there alone, ya know?”
She looks down at the mattress on the floor.  The one room that’s semi complete.  “But it’s yours.  I sleep in my van sometimes.  You’d like it,” giving him another smile, he goes to give her some privacy.  She bites at the side of her lip when she starts slipping everything off.  Putting his clothes on and smelling the salty wood smell of him.  Walking out to see he’s changed himself.  The cold finally getting to her as she shivers.  “Sorry.”
“Oh uh,” he goes back into the makeshift bedroom and pulls up a large fluffy throw, wrapping it around her, but it’s like she still doesn’t get warm.  Reluctantly he pulls her tight to him, wrapping both his arms around her, and she sinks in on his chest with a sigh.  His body nearly radiating the heat that hers craves.  He feels her trembling body slow down, and she pushes into his chest a bit more, releasing a deep yawn.
“I’m a bit tired.  Sorry.”
“It’s early.  Why don’t you take a nap?” leaning back to look up at him, giving him another scrunched nose smile.  “I’m kinda tired too.”
“Then let’s nap.”
“You take the mattress.”
“It’s big enough for both.  We’re just napping.”

Hongjoong:
You wake up to an empty bed and a loud clang in the kitchen. You reach over to the lamp beside you, blearily blinking away the sleep in your eyes as your ears pick up various giggling in the hallway. The digital clock beside the lamp read 2:30 am. It took you a couple of seconds to realize what was happening before you were jumping out of bed and storming towards the kitchen.
“Kim Hongjoong and Kim Junseo,” You grumble as you appear in the kitchen doorway.
The two loves of your life stopped what they were doing- which was currently mixing some espresso with a shot of some energy drink. You knew what this meant- your husband had no plan of sleeping yet and your son thought it would be a good idea to go along. But you, of course, weren’t having it.
“It was daddy’s idea,” The little boy said and pointed to his father the minute he saw your unamused expression.
“Yah, don’t sell me out like that-”
“It’s two-thirty in the morning. Go to sleep,” You lifted your finger before they could protest. “You need sleep, you’re still growing.” You tell your son before facing your husband. “And you, have been working overtime. Come on now misters- off to bed.”
The father and son pair decided to follow before you push them into bed. But as Junseo hops off the counter, he knocks the glass of espresso-energy drink cocktail down to the ground. Your body moved on its own accord before you could realize what happened, and grabbed the glass, spilling some of the content on the floor.
“Go to bed, I’ll clean this up.” You say when you come to your senses. “And please for the love of God, no more staying up.”
Tumblr media
Seonghwa:
It was a sunny day in the amusement park. You, Seonghwa, and Hyojin were by the large slides. And of course, Seonghwa was taking pictures of his two beautiful models, whether candid or planned.
“Again, again!” Hyonjin cheered when she reached the end of the slide, standing up and clapping her hands. “But let’s do the big ones!”
“Are you sure you can handle that sweetie?” Your husband asks her as he helps her off the slide, fixing her little dress and the bow in her hair. He smiles when she nods and tugs on his and your hands to lead you to the slide she wanted.
She had definitely gotten this enthusiasm from you. She was always so ready to jump into things and try them, even if it seemed scary. He always called her his brave little princess for that. Sometimes he feels like he’d get a heart attack from what she does but as long as he or you was there, it was fine.
You and Seonghwa stay at the end of the slide and wave up to her when she reaches the top. She waves back energetically before sitting on the small mat that was given to her to help go down the rather enormous slide. As Hyonjin scoots forward, she lets out an excited holler, her long tresses flowing behind her as she zooms down towards you.
Unfortunately, she tried to slow down her descent by sticking her feet to the sides. And of course, by the law of inertia, the sudden stop makes her fly forward. Her face could have planted into the ground if you hadn’t jumped forward and caught her in your arms.
You both tumbled to the ground and Seonghwa immediately rushes over to you, ushering his two princesses to the side. “Are you two okay?” He says as he looks over the both of you.
Hyonjin, oblivious as ever, only nodded. “Mommy caught me so I’m okay.”
“I’m a little shaken,” You admit but the smile never leaves your face. “Maybe a kiss from my prince and my baby would help me feel better.”
Hyonjin only giggled and placed a big, wet kiss on your cheek. You chuckled at the ticklish feeling before Seonghwa cups your chin, gently turning your head to face him. He lovingly strokes your cheek before leaning in to press a short but sweet peck to your lips.
Tumblr media
Yunho:
“Daddy look, it’s uncle Mingi!” Eun-jung, now nine years old, said from her spot on her father’s shoulder.
Yunho laughs as she indicates the giraffe in front of them. “Oh yeah, it does look like him.” He mused and handed her a short branch of leaves for her to feed to the creature.
Yunho turns to you while you were busy entertaining your son, Eun-sang. He was now three years old and can hold a conversation with people. It felt like only yesterday when his son was just born and his sister was begging to hold him.
“You enjoying the giraffes buddy?” Yunho asks his son.
“Mhmm! I wanna see something ewls too.” Eun-sang says.
“I’ll take him to see the koalas,” You tell Yunho. “Don’t give daddy a hard time, Eun-jung!”
“I won’t mommy,” She promises and waves goodbye to you.
You adjusted your hold on your son, lifting him up further, and started to walk to where the koala enclosure was. The two of you were so wrapped up in your conversation that you didn’t notice a couple of children running in your direction. Yunho’s eyes widened, realizing that the kids could barrel into you, making you fall.
“______, watch out!”
You turn at his voice, seeing the kids rushing at you. You jump to the side but you lose your footing, making you tumble to the ground. Your son grasps onto you but you swerve and fall onto your knees so that you don’t crush him under you. He looks up at you, wondering what had happened. “You okay mommy?” He asks and puts his small hand on your cheek
Your husband rushes to you, your daughter following alongside him and checking up on the both of you. Eun-jung, being the hands on older sister she was, took her brother from you while Yunho helped you up. “God, that was terrifying.” He admits and helps you brush off the dirt on your clothes. “But that was quick of you babe.”
“Mommy has Spider-Man refwekses.” Eun-sang giggles and you smirk up at your husband.
“HAH, I told you I had them too.”
Tumblr media
Yeosang:
You cooed down to your daughter, Haneul, as she lay on her back on the changing table. She smiles up at you, hands outstretched as you cleaned her up and started changing her diaper. You handed her the chicken stick rattle that Yeosang gave her the month she could start holding things to distract her.
“Oh, that’s stinky!” Ji-ho complains as he passes by his little sister’s room, dragging his toy behind him.
“You’ll be on diaper changing duty one day, mister!” You call out to your son in amusement as you finish up.
You only chuckle to yourself when he protests, making you shake your head. You hum to yourself as you throw away all the used materials. “Where’s her shorts?” You ask yourself and momentarily turn away to get it.
But what you didn’t realize was that Haneul grew bored of her rattle and became impatient of just laying there. She cooed as she started to roll over, thinking that it was just another flat surface to crawl all over. The second she fell off the edge of the changing table was the second you turned back around to put it on her.
Your eyes widened and it felt like the whole world slowed down. You lunged forward and caught your baby in time before she could hit the ground. The force of the impact made her cry, causing you to snap out of your stupor. You cradle her to you, gently hushing her and leaning her head against your shoulder.
“It’s okay baby, mommy’s here,” You coo to her and pull away to kiss her head. “You’re such a little troublemaker aren’t you?”
Tumblr media
San:
The sounds of giggles floated around the kitchen along with the clanging of cupboards. It was currently eight-thirty in the evening in the Choi household. Nari and Sooyun, both four and nine years old respectively, were in the kitchen, sneaking cookies from the cookie jar after managing to slip past their babysitter who was watching tv in the living room.
They were supposed to be asleep in their shared room and for a while they were. That was until the coast was clear and their babysitter returned to the living room. That meant to wake up from their fake sleep, grab some goodies from the kitchen, and head back into the room to snack on it.
Nari and Sooyun were now in their room, mouth, and teeth covered in chocolate while their little plastic cups were filled with strawberry milk. They giggled to themselves, high on success after sneaking past their babysitter. But that joy was short-lived when they heard the familiar rumble of the car’s engine in the driveway.
“Quick Nari!” Sooyun urges her sister and the two girls quickly cleaned up and disposed of their trash. They hastily taped the plastic bag full of Kisses Chocolates, thinking their parents wouldn’t find out, threw it in the fridge, and jumped into bed. The oldest girl turned off the lights and made sure things were in order before sleeping.
You and San come to check on your two angels after your little date night. But as soon you walked into the room, you knew something was off. You spot the little crumbs by the foot of Sooyun’s bed and the pink plastic cup that she had hastily shoved under it. You shake your head in amusement, walking over to pick it up as your husband kissed the two girls’ foreheads.
“Why do you have that?” San asks when he sees you with the cup. You say nothing, but nod your head towards your daughters. It took him a couple of seconds before he realized what had happened and he nodded in understanding.
“Oh well, I guess we won’t be going to the ice cream parlor tomorrow,” San sighs loudly, seeing the girls tense under their blankets. “I guess you and I will be the only ones to go. What do you say _____-”
“We’re sorry mommy!” Nari said, the first to cave in. She was sniffling as tears threatened to fall down her round cheeks. “Please take us to ice cream!”
Tumblr media
Mingi:
You chuckle as Young-soo bounces on the mattress, cupping his dad’s cheeks when his father leans over him. Mingi settles his son in the middle of the mattress again while you stay on the other side, ready to catch him in the next few seconds. Your husband flops down onto the edge of the mattress, making the two-year-old boy fly up in the air and squeal in delight.
“Hold on, I have to head to the bathroom,” You say as you get up.
“Don’t take too long babe,” Mingi says as he pulls his son towards him and tickles his stomach.
You assure him and jog to the bathroom, leaving the two boys alone. For a while, Mingi entertains Young-soo by blowing raspberries into his stomach or cheeks and by tickling his sides. Joyous giggles fill the air but the boy soon grows bored of just being tickled.
“Up, up!” He tells his dad, shaking the man’s much larger hand.
“Let’s wait for mommy bud, it’s not safe.” He tells his son. The boy, sensing that he didn’t get what he wanted, started to burst into tears. Mingi cringes at the sound, trying his best to hush him. Eventually, he caves in when none of his attempts seem to work.
“Alright, alright. Just this once. But don’t tell your mom.” He says as he settles his son on the center of the mattress again.
Once more, he launches his son into the air but the little boy twists, making him go off course. And he would’ve fallen to the floor if you didn’t enter in time to catch him. You grab Young-soo by the arm and leg and pull him to you. “Oh my God- Song Mingi.”
“Baby he wanted it!” He tried to protest, only to see his son make a funny face at him.
Tumblr media
Wooyoung:
“Good job kiddo,” Wooyoung says as he pats his son’s head.
Minjoon beams proudly up at his father, continuing with mixing the batter for their little cake meant for you. He wasn’t ashamed to admit that he took after his father’s cooking skills- in fact he always made sure to mention it to his friends. And because he wanted to level up his skills to be on par with his dad’s he always made sure to practice whenever he could.
Minjoon hums as he rocks back and forth on the bar stool behind the counter. Wooyoung hears the creaking noise of the chair’s wood and reaches out to still his son’s actions. He didn’t want to have the high chair incident repeat again.
“You can’t sit still, now can you buddy?” The man teases his son, only to receive a pout.
“I’m not going to fall dad,” Minjoon argues but follows nonetheless. He only pouted more when his dad ruffled his hair and went back to what he was doing.
Eventually the two fell into routine again, exchanging some father-son banter and helping each other around the kitchen. The two grew focused on what they were doing that Wooyoung didn’t notice that his son started to rock back and forth on the seat again.
You walk into the kitchen a little later, a gentle smile on your face. You were about to ask what the two were doing when Minjoon tilts a little too backward, making the chair tip over in that direction. You drop whatever you were holding at that moment and rush to catch him.
Your son falls with a choked yell, landing into your arms as you both topple to the floor from the impact. Wooyoung ran from his spot by the stove, turning it to low heat first- you didn’t want a fire to start, and over to you. “What happened??”
You look up from your spot on the floor, your arms protectively wrapped around Minjoon. “The little rascal fell,” You breathed. You look down to your son and kiss his hair, letting out a relieved chuckle. “You have got to stop doing that, buddy.”
Tumblr media
Jongho:
One of the perks of being an active family is that the kids are always entertained and you get to have fun at the same time. Exercise is just a bonus. Right now, you were in this bouncy house/parkour gym for people of all ages- a treat for your kids who managed to get high grades in class.
As of now, your twins were by a small area where some short wire-lines were set up for the zipline. It was the type of zipline where you hang by your hands, allowing you to jump into the pit filled with soft blue blocks. Jongho was on top with your son, Young-min, while you and your daughter, Young-soon, were at the foot of the zipline, cheering him on.
“Come on Young-min! You got this!” She encourages as she bounced around. She was always the more daring one between the two of them.
Jongho knelt by his son, cupping the back of his head. “You ready bud?” He asks gently.
The boy only nodded, both excitement and nerves filling his system. He brushes his sweaty palms against his pants and releases a curt sigh. His fingers then curled around the bars that the gym worker handed him, bouncing on the balls of his feet.
“You don’t have to do it if you’re scared-”
“No, dad-” Young-min answers firmly. “I got this.”
He exhales and pushes off, feeling the wind whip against his face as he zipped down. He could faintly hear his sister’s cheers as he raced to the bottom. Unfortunately, he doesn't let go on time. So when he hits the metal stopper at the bottom of the zipline, the force of the impact causes him to launch forward, throwing him out of his hold on the zipline and away from the safety pit below.
You instinctively reached out, your body reacting before you could register what was happening, and pulled him towards you; you’ve practically saved him from potentially face planting into the ground. He looks shaken up when you help him to the ground, eyes wide with adrenaline.
“Are you okay?” You ask him, a bit worriedly, as you look over him for any pulled muscles.
All anxiety melts away when he beams widley and throws his hand up in the air. “AGAIN!”

a/n: it’s cold and snowy. to combat the winter blues i wrote about a sunny minnesota summer with brock :))
Tumblr media
You can’t remember the last time you’ve seen Brock this carefree.
The season was hard on him. There were large periods where he didn’t put up any points, and trade rumors started to circulate. Halfway through, before the playoff push even started, the negative social media comments came rolling in. You frequently saw fans request a trade or say that the organization should regret drafting him. Brock did his best to brush everything off, but it was beginning to waer on his mental health. You’re devastated when they fail to make it to the postseason, but you know it’s for the best. The injured team will spend the offseason recuperating and be ready for the next one. Besides, it means you and Brock will get to spend more time on the lake.
So here you are, packing the car for the twenty-seven hour drive to Minnesota. Brock insists on driving, says it’s relaxing, but you aren’t sure you agree. Prone to car-sickness so fierce you can barely look out the window, you’d much rather fly. Everything is exasperated by the fact you’re a nervous traveller to begin with, afraid of taking a wrong turn or missing an exit. You’re a terrible road trip partner but at least Brock could talk to the dogs. Coolie and Milo loved car rides, and you can typically hear your boyfriend having full on conversations with them as you fade in and out of consciousness.
“Ready to go babe?” Brock asks as he closes the trunk. The question is delivered with a bright grin, and despite your anxiety you return it with ease.
“I don’t really have much of a choice do I?”
He shakes his head, chuckling as he moves towards you. Sliding his hands into the back pockets of your jeans he kisses you lazily. It’s comforting and all-consuming at the same time; doing a great job of occupying your mind with thoughts of him instead of the journey ahead. “I suppose not,” he says, planting a final kiss on your forehead. “It’ll be fine. You can take a Gravol right before we cross the border and you’ll be asleep before we hit Seattle.”
It’s the best plan of attack, so you agree immediately. After taking one last run into your shared apartment to use the bathroom and make sure everything is in order, you make yourself comfortable in the passenger seat of Brock’s jeep. Music filters through the speakers at a low volume, and you focus on the retreating skyline of Vancouver. You’re excited to get back to Minnesota, to relax and see your boyfriend in his natural habitat. Countless days are about to be spent lounging lakeside enjoying each other’s company. It will also be nice to spend time with Brock’s family: they’ve been incredibly welcoming over the years and you can’t wait to catch up with them. You know Brock’s itching to spend time with his nephew, and just to be at home.
Just as Brock said, you’re asleep before Bellingham. It’s fitful, and you’re frequently woken up by the dogs barking a little too excitedly in response to something Brock said. However, it does a good job of keeping you from emptying the contents of your stomach onto the floor. Somewhere in Idaho, a good seven hours after you left Canada, you awake for the final time.
“Look boys, Mom’s finally awake!”
You laugh at the comment and lean over the center console to ruffle his hair. It’s still long from the season, and curls slightly around your fingertips.
“You’re hilarious.”
Brock takes his right hand off the steering wheel, unravelling yours from its resting place and entwining your fingers together. He places a kiss to the back of your palm. “You know I’m just teasing,” he whispers. “I know these drives are hard on you. Thank you for doing it twice a year.”
Instead of answering verbally, you squeeze his hand tighter. Though it’s true you hate driving through five states, you’d do it twice a week if it would make Brock happy. It seems a bit much to convey with a single gesture, but you can tell from the smile that graces his features that Brock understands. The two of you sit in silence, enjoying the scenery and trying to scout for a rest stop. Coolie and Milo are getting antsy and you’re also due to stretch your legs.
After letting the dogs run around to release some energy and using the bathroom, you start the final leg of the day. Missoula, Montana, is the destination. Not quite the halfway point, but close enough that you could tackle the rest of the miles tomorrow, the city has a wide variety of pet-friendly lodging. You insist you drive the rest of the way, giving Brock a well deserved rest. Looking at the interstate for hours can cause serious highway hypnosis. Not even twenty minutes after getting back on the road he’s asleep, snoring softly as he rests his head on the window.
You take a moment to admire your boyfriend. He looks so relaxed and peaceful, and the forehead creases that are starting to develop from over analyzing hours of tape disappear. Brock looks years younger, and you know the youthfulness will creep back into him the longer you’re in Minnesota. You can’t wait to see him without any cares again.
Less than two hours later, the hotel creeps up on your left. Pulling into the first available parking space, you turn the car off before waking Brock.
“Brock, we’re at the hotel,” you say softly, jostling his shoulder. “Let’s get checked in and then we shower.”
The mention of washing off a day’s worth of travel has him letting the door fly open. You had made sure to pack your overnight bags in an easily accessible spot, and work at getting them out while Brock wrangles the dogs. For being cooped up all day, they’re extremely well behaved. Once cleaned up you imagine you’ll take them on a long walk and grab some food.
“Hey, give that back. Milo!” you hear Brock yelp, and peek around to see what’s happening. The younger pup has Brock’s bucket hat between his teeth and is in the process of tearing across the parking lot.
With a giggle you call him back. “Milo, come here baby,” you say. Without a second thought, the dog bolts towards you, knocking against your shins when he fails to stop in time. You lean down to scratch Milo’s ear, and as soon as you ask him to drop the object he places it in your open palm. “Good boy,” you coo, letting him lick the side of your face.
“He’s your dog alright,” Brock huffs from where he’s standing, Coolie running circles around his ankles.
You toss the hat over the roof of the car as you laugh at him. “You’re just jealous he listens to me.”
“I sure fucking am. He’d be an absolute nuisance if it wasn’t for you.”
The rest of the night is spent unwinding from the long day. Dinner consists of the greasiest burgers you can find, and you roam around the city hand in hand, the dogs leading you. By the time you get back to the hotel you’re spent. Sleep takes over rather quickly, and you’re dozing off before Brock gets back from brushing his teeth. Once ready for bed, he slides his body against yours. The pair of you fit together like a puzzle, and after a quick kiss you let sleep consume you.
The second day of travel is much the same, except you do a better job of staying awake. You take a different anti-nausea medication and frequently switch with Brock. Conversation flows easily, ideas for summer excursions and repairs that need to be done around the house. The Boeser’s are kind enough to lend you their lake house during the off season, but the property can be a lot to manage. Brock takes it all in stride, and somehow actually enjoys spending hours mowing the grass. He says it’s relaxing, mind numbing work, so you let him handle it. Country music flows from the car speakers, and eventually talking turns into a full on concert. Milo and Coolie do their best to harmonize with Brock, and it’s too cute not to post somewhere. You sneak your phone from your pocket and manage to catch some of it on video, posting to Instagram immediately. Those from the Canucks organization you have on social media will love it; Brock’s teammates will most definitely chirp him for being tone deaf.
It’s late by the time you pull into the driveway of your temporary home, almost eleven. Grabbing only the essentials and leaving the rest to be unpacked tomorrow, you unlock the door before flopping on the couch. The dogs follow suit, laying on top of you. When Brock walks in he shakes his head, but still leans over to kiss you.
“Make sure you text your mom and let her know we made it,” you call to his retreating figure. “And let her know we’ll be over in the afternoon once we get situated.”
You swear he flips you off, no doubt poking fun at your maternal instincts. “Yes ma’am,” he replies.
“Ma’am?” you shriek. “I am not fifty. You’re so gonna get it Boeser.”
After gently nudging the dogs off your legs you’re chasing after him, laughing all the way. Brock’s a lot faster than you, being the athlete he is, but you don’t give up hope. In a last ditch attempt to get him back, you launch yourself forward, square into the middle of his back. The change in weight distribution has him falling to the floor, sprawling the width of the hallway. Both of you are giggling messes, delirious from lack of sleep and the knowledge you get to spend four months of uninterrupted time together.
“I love you, you know that right,” Brock murmurs into the crook of your neck. He dots chaste pecks along the skin and you sigh at the feeling.
Pulling him closer, you make sure to properly enunciate your words as you respond. “Yes sir.”
Brock eyes darken visibly, and he shifts his body so he’s resting on top of you. “You’re in for it now,” he groans, dragging himself to his feet. You quickly follow, meeting his lips in an eager kiss. The pair of you stumble the rest of the way to the bedroom, bodies intertwining like ivy vines, and Brock makes sure to kick the door shut to ensure your pets don’t interrupt the salacious activities he has planned.
☼☼☼☼
You settle into a routine fairly quickly. Mornings are spent alone while Brock works out, and afternoons are for lounging in the sun. The hours after the sun fades away are spent huddling around a bonfire with friends, and midnights are for just the two of you. Sometimes Brock lets himself rest and spends the day in the middle of the lake doing his best to fish, leaving you to spend time with his mom and sister. They’re lovely; warm and welcoming, making sure you’re never too lonely or bored. You and Brock also spend a lot of time with his nephew, doting over the toddler. Seeing your boyfriend with him makes you want kids, but that’s a conversation that is yet to be had in any serious light.
Sometimes you join Brock when he does typical professional hockey player in the summer things. It turns out you're quite the golfer, and have put him to shame many times. Countless days are spent helping him fix the roof of the lake house because he insists on doing it himself even though he knows nothing about roofing. At least seven phone calls to his father and a desperate run to the hardware store later, it’s completed; sealed and free of cracks. Though you’re a terrible fisher, Brock tries his best to teach you. Truth be told, you don’t have any interest in the sport, but his tongue pokes out slightly when he’s thinking about how to explain a concept and you think it’s adorable.
Coolie and Milo are loving being able to roam free, and you both spend a lot of time outside with them. You’re only ever really in the house at night, reading or playing games on the patio furniture Brock’s mom picked out. It’s peaceful; existing like this. You swear you could do it forever.
Being home allows an invisible weight to be lifted off Brock’s shoulders. There’s a pep in his step, and he’s always smiling. Even the intense at-home workouts can’t seem to bring him down. You’re delighted, how could you not be? It’s as if the only things that matter to him are enjoying a few beers lakeside and coaxing you out of shorts in the dark. You suppose that’s the truth.
☼☼☼☼
It’s incredibly warm out. The sun beats down on your back as you turn the pages of your novel, half listening to the conversation Brock is having with his friends. A group of you are on the boat, enjoying one of the last full days of summer. Later in the week you and Brock will pack up the car again, making the long trek back to Vancouver. You’re sad time has passed so fast, but you’d be lying if you said you weren’t excited to be back in the city. It’s your home, and the boys seem to be really fired up for the new season. You have a feeling some really good hockey is going to come out of Rogers Arena.
“Yo Y/N, who’s the better driver. Me or Boes?”
The question pulls you from the fantasy taking place on the pages, and you look to see who’s speaking to you. It’s Brock’s dearest childhood friend, someone you consider family at this point. “It’s absolutely not Brock,” you shrug. The comment earns a loud laugh from everyone and you find yourself joining in.
“Ouch babe, that hurts,” Brock says as he slides into the free space next to you. Casually wrapping a strong arm around your shoulder, he leans down to whisper into your ear. “Looks like you need to be taught a lesson.”
His words have a vaguely sexual connotation, and you look around nervously. Your swimsuit won’t cover the flush that will be sure to rise on your skin if Brock tries anything. Everyone seems to be engaged in their own conversations, but you still feel queasy about getting caught. Though Brock’s friends are the type to laugh it off, you’d be absolutely mortified.
Before your brain can overthink anything else, you’re being lifted from your seat. It only takes two seconds for Brock to hoist you over the side of the boat and throw you into the cool water. You land with a glorious splash, but take your time coming to the surface. Partly to bring your temperature down, partly to make your lover squirm.
“You’re a fucking asshole,” you yell to him from below, but the bright smile you flash him lets Brock know you don’t mean it.
He sets his hat on top of your book before climbing over the edge. “Shut up,” he fires back, diving gracefully to join you in the water.
A small splashing match breaks out, and soon everyone else is in the water, picking sides. You swim until your skin is wrinkled beyond recognition, pruned and puckered something akin to a raisin. Only once the sky begins to redden do you head for home. Brock keeps the boat at cruising speed, and you sit comfortably in his lap. Once back on land, dinner is quickly thrown together. A mish-mash of what’s left in your fridge and what others have brought, but it works. The boys huddle around the grill and everyone else swoons over the dogs, who are on their best behaviour.
Later in the night, once the dishes are cleaned up and some guests with day jobs have left, you settle into Brock’s side at the fire. Not caring if you get chirped for the PDA, you hold his face in both your hands and rest your forehead against his. The scruff that’s grown in since the last time Brock shaved tickles slightly, but you’re too in love with him to care. It’s been so refreshing to see him relaxed, acting without a care in the world. Hopefully the attitude he currently has will stick and not disappear once you hit the Vancouver city limits.
Brock takes a sip of his beer before offering the bottle to you. You gingerly place it to your lips, making a face at the taste. He laughs at your reaction, pushing a few loose strands of hair behind your ear.
“Still tastes disgusting,” you mutter, reaching for your own drink to wash away the taste.
The fire crackles gently behind you but you barely register the sound, in your own little world where everything is perfect. It’s you, Brock, and the dogs living in a house similar to the one you’re currently residing in, living life to the fullest.
“You gonna come back to me, space cadet?” Brock chuckles, tracing the outline of your nose.
“Yeah, yeah. Sorry,” you apologize. “Was just thinking.”
“About what?”
“Us. The future. Living in a lake house just like this one and spending all our time being so in love with each other that our friends constantly make fun of us. Maybe having kids in a couple of years. How I love seeing you like this; so at peace and full of life.”
In lieu of a response, Brock kisses you passionately. It’s a soft kind of passion: one that holds you tenderly and whispers sweet nothings in your ear. He tastes like the Coors Light he’s been drinking, but somehow the idea of beer is much more appealing when mixed with Brock. You lose yourself in him for a while, relishing in the gentleness of his hands resting on your waist. Eventually you return some of your attention to the others, but even then you can’t find it in yourself to focus. Your mind is filled with nothing but love for Brock.
It’s seems that he’s feeling the same way, because he continually leaves kisses across your shoulder blade. “I really, really love you,” Brock confesses, and you feel him smile through the thin material of your worn hoodie.
You intertwine your pinky with his and let them sit comfortably in your lap. “I love too. So much that it’s all consuming.”
Brock often leaves you breathless in more ways than one, but sweet sentiments like this will always take the cake. Especially when they happen on summer nights where he’s free to be his authentic self.

Thomastair Youtube AU
Sorry I’ve been neglecting this... I had this started and then my brother got his laptop stolen so he borrowed mine until he got a new one and then I have executive dysfunction. Thanks for being patient!
part 1, part 2
1.6k word count, all i have to say is poor thomas
3: Ignoring my boyfriend!
“Hey guys, it’s Alastair.” Alastair waved. “As you can see, I’m by myself today, Thomas is out getting groceries right now, and while he’s gone I thought it would be a good time to film this little intro.”
Alastair shuffled a little, fiddling with the camera.
“So I’ve seen this little challenge going around on Youtube, and I wanted to try it out on Tom. When he gets back, I’m going to be ignoring him to get his reaction.” Alastair continued, “Thomas is a very touchy-feely boyfriend, so I’m anticipating a big reaction out of him. He’d better not disappoint. I’ll blame him if this video flops.
“So I’m just going to set this camera up, and hide it behind the pillows we have on our window seat, and then wait for him in our bed.”
Alastair moved the camera to the window seat, then turned and ran back to the bed behind him, pulled up the duvet and crawled in.
The footage sped up as time passed, and Alastair looked at his phone while waiting for Thomas to arrive.
Eventually, the door opened, and a tall, brown haired man walked in.
“Hey babe,” Thomas said as he gently closed the door.
Alastair said nothing as he continued to stare at his phone, but Thomas didn’t seem to notice anything amiss. He simply toed off his shoes, walked over to the bed and leaned down to kiss Alastair on the forehead.
Alastair didn’t make any response, just kept scrolling through his phone. Again Thomas didn’t seem put off by his boyfriend’s behavior, and collapsed onto the bed next to Alastair.
“Whatcha lookin’ at?” He asked as he peered over Alastair’s shoulder to see his phone.
Alastair slightly turned away from Thomas, and said nothing. Thomas’ brows furrowed slightly, but he shook it off and peered up again.
“Something I shouldn’t be seeing?” Thomas asked, “Is it something naughty? Did I catch you at an awkward time, love?”
Again, Alastair didn’t respond, he only gave a subtle look to the camera paired with a small smirk before returning to a blank expression.
“Hey, look at me.” Thomas said, starting to get a little suspicious of Alastair’s behavior. Alastair did no such thing. Instead he sighed and turned his body so that his back was facing Thomas, and he readjusted into a comfortable position as he began scrolling through his phone once again. Thomas sat up with a frown, looking down at his boyfriend, stumped.
“Ooh! I know!” Thomas abruptly stood up from their bed and left the room, whistling as he went.
Alastair glanced at the camera in confusion and whispered, “What?”
A moment later, Thomas came waltzing back into the bedroom, carrying a tabby cat above his head, singing the Circle of Life.
Alastair glanced over his shoulder and pressed his lips together tightly, just barely able to contain his laughter and somehow maintaining his passive expression. Thomas looked down from the cat above his head and towards Alastair. He smiled at him then, and it was a brilliant smile. All sparkling teeth and pure love and childish joy in his eyes. Alastair was visibly shaking from the effort it took to not get up and plant a kiss right over that perfect smile.
Instead, he only glanced away and turned back around to his phone, frowning at the camera once.
Upon seeing his theatrics fail to prompt his boyfriend to speak, Thomas lowered the cat and his sunny expression deflated. He set the cat down and reclaimed his seat on the bed behind Alastair, frowning.
“Hey, are you angry with me? Did I do something wrong?” Thomas worried, though he again received no indication he had been heard. Thomas looked up to the ceiling in concentration. “I did the dishes, I picked up my laundry like you asked, I… what did I do…” Thomas trailed in thought as he tried to jog his memory to figure out any missteps he’s made, and apparently came up with nothing.
“Okay babe, what’s the matter? Did I piss you off? Did you go through my browser history?”
At this, Alastair furrows his brows, and looks at the camera, thoroughly surprised at the idea Thomas would have anything unsavory in his browser history, and curious, he mouths the words, browser history?
“Just kidding, hmm, what did I do to piss you off? Oh! Is it because I used your toothbrush again?”
At this, Alastair almost breaks character because Thomas knows Alastair doesn’t like when Thomas uses his toothbrush. They’d had that conversation before. And, seriously? Again?
Somehow, Alastair was able to maintain stoicity and he looked back down at his phone.
Thomas waited in silence for Alastair to respond, but Alastair remained about-face from Thomas.
Thomas grabbed Alastair’s shoulder and tried to pull him down so that he could see his face, but his boyfriend shook him off and returned to his earlier position facing away from him.
“Hey, Ali, babe, what’s the matter? Did something happen?” Thomas asked solemnly. “You were fine when I left to get the milk, what changed since then? Did I do something wrong?”
Again, Thomas was met with no reply.
Thomas leaned up and over his boyfriend to try to see his face and get any sort of response. He was met only with Alastair’s blank face, seemingly not hearing a thing he said. Thomas sat back down heavily on the bed behind Alastair with his brows furrowed, beginning to get visibly upset. He sat there for a minute, slouched over and confused. Presumably trying to think of a reason why this was happening. Alastair looked up to see that Thomas was no longer above him, and made eye contact with the camera, before looking back down. Behind him, Thomas turned so that he faced away from Alastair, his back to the camera.
Alastair waited for Thomas’s next attempt at getting him to respond, but it never came. Alastair’s expressive eyebrows furrowed in confusion as to why his boyfriend had quit his antics. He looked over his shoulder to check that Thomas was still there, and when he did, he heard a tiny sniffle, just barely audible.
Alastair immediately sat up, dropping his charade of ignoring his boyfriend in favor of grabbing Thomas’s shoulder and turning him to face him.
When he did, he was met with a sight that broke his heart.
Thomas was crying.
Tears ran down his miserable face, and he sniffled again, this time louder, wetter, as fresh tears spilled from his eyes.
“Oh, baby, no.” Alastair said softly, his face guilty and regretful.
“What did I do?” Thomas asked, his voice breaking, sniffling again.
“Nothing, love, you didn’t do anything.” Alastair wiped the newly fallen tears from Thomas’s face and pulled him in to give him a hug.
“Are you tired of me?” Thomas said miserably into Alastair’s shoulder.
“Never.” Alastair responded.
“Then why aren’t you talking to me anymore?”
“It was a joke! A prank,” Alastair rushed out, trying to reassure his dejected boyfriend. “A bad one, a stupid one. It was just a prank, love.”
Thomas looked confused, tears still escaping from his eyes.
“How is that a prank?” He said, unconvinced.
Alastair pointed toward the camera hidden on the window seat and said, ““I was ignoring you to see your reaction. See, it’s just a joke, I’m sorry. It was bad.”
Thomas spotted the camera and wiped his cheeks.
“So… you’re not mad at me?” He asked tentatively.
“Of course not. Why would I be mad at you?” Alastair said, once again pulling Thomas close.
Thomas waited a moment, then pushed Alastair away by his shoulders gently.
“I can’t believe you,” He said, laughing slightly, relieved. “How could you do that? I almost had a heart attack!”
“I’m sorry! I didn’t think you would cry!” Alastair exclaimed, then quieter, “I didn’t want to make you cry.”
“I hope it was worth it, you asshole.” Thomas replied affectionately before tackling Alastair onto their bed and burying his face in his shoulder.
“It was not. I don’t ever wanna see you cry ever again.” Alastair said decisively.
Thomas picked his head up and looked at his boyfriend and sniffled once more.
“Well now you have something to post,” he said.
“I feel bad about it though,”
“You can make it up to me somehow.” Thomas said with a grin. “I bet I could think of a few ways you can repay me for subjecting me to this God-awful idea of yours.”
Alastair rolled his eyes slightly but smiled up at Thomas.
“Oh, I don’t doubt it.”
Then, Alastair leaned up and gave Thomas a kiss, an apology.
The two of them sat up and Alastair got up to dislodge the camera from its hiding place, returning to sit beside Thomas.
“Well that was a colossal failure.” Alastair said to the camera, then looking at his boyfriend. “Sorry, Tom.”
Thomas only stuck his tongue out at Alastair affectionately.
“I almost lost it when you picked up William Shakespurr and sang the Lion King song. I don’t know how I didn’t give it all up right there.” Alastair chuckled.
“I really thought that one was gonna work.”
There was a pause, a silent moment before Alastair said, “I really am sorry, Tom.” Alastair sighed, “I love you.”
“I know. I love you too.”
The two of them leaned back against their plush headboard tangling into each other like vines, silent for a few moments, cuddling contentedly before Alastair spoke up.
“Did you really use my toothbrush again?”
