#i love you i want us both to eat well
‘there wasn't enough naan so we shared the last piece’
a group of friends had a reunion after over a year since they were in medschool together. they dressed in znali, ate naan and kebab, and fed each other bites full of love. it reminds me of how I want to dress up the most, look my best and sexiest, for the most intimate dinners with those I’ve found most comfort with in life. I hope the work I create and am a part of always reminds me of that.

Ross Gay, from “Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude,” in Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude
[text ID: I am sorry. I am grateful.
I just want us to be friends now, forever.
Take this bowl of blackberries from the garden.
The sun has made them warm.
I picked them just for you. I promise
I will try to stay on my side of the couch.]

there's something so soft about loving by caring for someone. i love you i want us both to eat well. i love you, you can rest in my arms. i love you, did you sleep well? i love you, and i want to be alone but its you who i want to be alone with

this is our kitchen
i’ll stand in front of all the kitchen drawers and cabinets so that when you cook, you’ll have no choice but to move me out the way. maybe with your hands on my hips.
and we’ll laugh about it, see? laughter. look at this smile on my face. look at the dimples in our cheeks. you won’t get mad like my mother, in the kitchen that was only ever big enough for her. you and i, we’ll have an entire house of kitchen. we’ll bathe in the sink. we’ll sleep in the empty coffee cups. we’ll make love in the oven and hope it doesn’t burn us up.
and i’ll make breakfast, even though we both hate it. i’ll make pancakes until you get sick of pancakes. i’ll make pancakes until neither of us can move, until we get fat and silly and you’ll keep loving me, even if we need a bigger kitchen because i’m so full of pancakes, or if i burn the pancakes, or if we never eat pancakes again.
i’ll make you anything, you name it. i’ll make myself into something you can devour- beat me into the kitchen counter like dough and cut me into the shape of someone you could want. come home and be hungry for me. come home and eat the pancakes i made you. we’re having breakfast for dinner again. this is our kitchen. sorry if i get in your way. i only wanted you to touch my waist.
