finished tac (spoilers) and it’s insane
it’s about how power corrupts and absolute power is a ticking time bomb or maybe it’s water seeping through cupped hands, running out too quickly to do anything altruistic or otherwise meaningful.
it’s the way academia renders us immobile, the way we think we have all the answers but we’re blocked by corruption and corporations and forced to turn to each other for even the slightest bit of absolution.
it’s the cosmic frustration of trying to play god. no wonder reina mori nearly returned to the earth. no wonder elizabeth rhodes drove herself to sickening righteousness. no wonder nico de varona became the sacrificial lamb.
it’s the inherent eroticism and violence of soulmatism, what did we think would happen when corrupted souls intertwined? when elizabeth rhodes chose to cut her losses? when she ripped out the heart of gideon drake? when callum nova was nearly driven to madness after a conversation, coupling with his tristan caine-shaped obsession? when parisa kamali found a life anew but just barely?
it’s about being chosen until you’re not. it’s about six planets and dozens of moons in a barely-contained orbit; throw one out and the gravitational changes scientifically shouldn’t cause a supernova, but they do anyway.
it’s about how no one made it out, not really. because power always demands a price.

just read killing floor
just read killing floor, first book in the jack reacher series
freaking loved it, the plot is so in-depth and everything actually makes sense, and this is my first taste of crime thriller books and i think i may read more.
//SPOILER//SPOILER//SPOILER//SPOILER//SPOILER//SPOILER//
the ending was so well written but I didn't really like it. that doesn't mean it was bad, there's a big difference, my opinion does not impact the quality of the book, it's just i shipped roscoe and reacher so much and they were so happy together and it's just ahfgfsgsgsshahjd i wanted them to stay together so much and he had to leave and she stayed and it's such a great book but the ending was like ashgfgshgs

Finally finished reading sharp objects and just. Oh my god. I have seen the show already so I knew how it was going to end, but I just adored reading it? Like there's just more detail into their mindsets when you read it and I love it. Still slightly in shock I think. But still I adore her writing style so damn much that I might have to go read her other books now.....

Legends & Lattes, by Travis Baldree, is a sweet and gentle story about what happens after your orc heroine kills all the bad guys and gets all the treasure.  It’s the D&D / coffeeshop AU mashup that I didn’t know I wanted to read about.
Viv, an orc adventurer, is ready for a quiet retirement, turning her loot into a cute, quiet coffeeshop. This means find and rebuilding a location, hiring staff, and getting the deliveries of coffee and coffeemaker from distant lands. Viv hires a hob carpenter, Cal,  a succubus barista, Tandri, and later a ratkin baker, Thimble,  to help her out. This crew, plus some of Viv’s former adventuring party, and some coffeeshop customers, become the heart of the story.
When I was younger, I read a great deal of D&D-ish fantasy novels, and there aren’t usually enough ladies in the stories. Usually one (beautiful) lady per adventuring party, and some sexy tavern wenches in town. All the cool characters were men! Everyone who got to forge a sword or decipher an ancient warning was a man! Ugh. This is not the case here.  In Legends & Lattes, a woman builds and a man bakes, and no one has anything to say about that. Some characters do have some thoughts on orc/succubus/gnome/etc. expectations, but the book’s theme is much more about using what you’re good at, whatever that actually is.
