Little League
Luke Hughes x mom!reader
Note: don’t worry! I totally understand what you’re saying. I read this and kinda had a social media/irl storyline come to my mind so I hope that’s alright! Also I kinda made them slightly know each other, but like acquaintances and they have like mutual friends kinda sorta.
Warnings: a shit ton of fluff. Literally it’s all fluff. Like I don’t even think this has cursing in it. And if so maybe once.
My name is Y/N, and when I was 15 I had a son. He is absolutely everything to me. I was young, and dumb, but if I was given the option to go back and never hook up with some senior at my school, I wouldn’t take the offer. I love my little man too much.
When he was 2 he fell in love with hockey, so at 3 I let him start learning how to skate and grasp the basics of playing hockey, even though for his age it was just floor. Now at 5 he’s playing fully on ice and his team was even invited to practice with the New Jersey Devils, as his team, and we, are based in Newark.
Once we got to Prudential Centre the boys were sent to the main locker room, their names were on tape right under their buddy for the day. I was looking around and right under ‘Luke Hughes’ in full capital letters read ‘Ethan Y/L/N’. I walked my son over to the stall where his name was (obviously avoiding the logo) and I helped him change into his pads, uniform and skates.
After all the kids were settled and ready, coach Ruff started explaining to the kids and the parents how this practice session basically works.
It’s a 4 week training camp, and it’s every Wednesday that the devils are in town. (So 4 Wednesdays, but sometimes there’s a week between the practices without one cuz they’re away) after everything was explained, the Devils were brought into the locker room to meet with their buddies for the program.
The second Ethan saw Luke the smile on his face grew by about 100%. He watched him on Michigan last season as my sister goes there and is friends with some of the older players on the team, and they’ve met before, so he’s excited to see his old friend.
“LUKEY! You’re my buddy! I’m so happy! I missed you! Are we gonna shoot pucks and score on everyone!?” My 5 year old said acting like I just fed him 3 coffees with a side of 10 pounds of sugar.
“Oh yeah we are! We’re gonna be the best group on the ice! With the best cheerleader! Right Y/N?” He said and I smiled at them giving a thumbs up.
After the rest of the kids got to know their buddy a little more the teams were ushered onto the ice, and parents were to stay along the sidelines and not interfere unless there was an emergency.
The team had several smaller nets put up along the boards to practice shooting, cones near centre ice to practice skating, and pucks EVERYWHERE. The kids were all having a blast, and so were the professionals.
By the end of the 2 hours all the kids looked ready to nap, and honestly so did most of the players. Everyone went into the locker room and the players helped the kids with their skates before they talked to the parents.
“So, how was Ethan out there?” I asked the curly headed man smiling at me.
“He’s great. Future NHL superstar I think. The next Gretzky! Forget about bedard!” He said.
“I’m glad my kids THAT GOOD.” I smiled.
“Yeah he is. How are you though? I haven’t seen you since you and Ethan visited Sarah?!” He said bringing up my sister.
“Everything’s great here actually! He’s loving kindergarten now and I got a raise which is why I put him into this. As a little treat for him.” I smiled.
“You’re such a good mom to him. You know, since we’re both in Jersey, I think we should finally exchange numbers, and maybe we can go out for lunch one day Eth’s in school and you’re off and I don’t have practice!” He said smiling.
“You know what, sure Hughes. Pass me your phone and we can text tonight about said lunch date.” I said before taking his phone.

Had a great time with the @njdevils and @lhughes_06. Eth will never forget this. Thank you so much 🫶🫶
╔═══════════════════╗
The second week was 2 weeks later as the devils had their first road trip of the season. The kids were extra excited because the wait was longer than they expected it to be.
The second Ethan saw Luke he ran to the man and attached himself to him, it didn’t seem weird because quite a few of the kids did the same to their buddies.
Today on the ice they were doing more team oriented practices instead of just one on one. So Luke, Jack, Dawson, and Nico were working together with Ethan and 3 other kids. It wasn't too eventful, just 2 on 2 scrimmage and small drills that 5 year olds can handle.
But this time after helping Ethan change and it was time for Luke and I to talk about his progress, he asks me out for the next evening, I said yes because Ethan was already gonna be at my parents so I'll be home alone anyways, why not spent that evening with Luke!

I'll forever be confused over the writing of Steve's character in season 4. Like, what was the thought process behind the choices that were made for him?
In season 1, he was shown to have a change of behavior, felt remorse for his actions, attempted to apologize to not just Nancy but also Jonathan, and bought a camera for Jonathan to replace the one he had broken. Not only this, but he had turned back around to help Nancy and Jonathan–after having a gun pointed at him and nearly getting eaten by a creature he probably couldn't fully comprehend at the time–despite the fact he was scared shitless cuz, hey, that's his girl in there and a guy he may not know very well but he's not going to let them fight the monster alone.
Tumblr media
In season 2, we watched him grieve his relationship with Nancy and form a bond with Dustin and the other kids. Though he was clearly upset about the breakup, he never once truly blamed Nancy for it. We saw him respect not only Nancy's feelings but her choice as well. He knew he wasn't the one she chose, he knew she was struggling and turned to Jonathan. He was heartbroken but he did his best to move forward and keep his mind on the mission at hand.
Tumblr media
In season 3, we watch his bond with Dustin develop further and we see him make his first friend that's (close) to his age since he dropped his previous friends in season 1. He was actively looking for a new girl to date and developed feelings for Robin; We were led to believe he'd moved on from Nancy. In this season, though he was fairly removed from the other kids for most of it, we were once again shown he has a selfless nature when it comes to them, even Erica whom he barely knew. We saw that at the end of the day, he's simply a good friend through his instant support of Robin rather than lashing out over the rejection or being flat-out homophobic. He's selfless and loyal to those he cares about. His character in this season was wonderful (not talking about how his injuries were constantly played for laughs though, that's for a future post).
Tumblr media
So in season 4...what happened? Yeah, I still loved him because he's Steve and I've become attached to his character over the years. But he just felt so off? I'm glad his friendship with Robin was still there and I loved them together throughout the season. But he's 1. suddenly in love with Nancy again, 2. doesn't seem to respect her actual feelings nor her relationship with Jonathan (because if he did he wouldn't be actively flirting with her and telling her he wants to have kids with her, hello?), 3. he complained about being with the kids despite being shown to deeply care for them over and over again (it could've been a joke of course but it just felt mean spirited when compared to his behaviors in prior seasons. Like he sighed when being paired with Dustin?), and 4. he just felt kind of weird and a little creepy at times.
Tumblr media
It felt like they didn't know what to do with him this last season. It felt like all the development he'd gone through suddenly took a left turn and then backtracked out of nowhere. Instead of finding ways to discuss the way season 3 events affected him (and Robin) or maybe showing him form a genuine bond with Eddie (someone else his age that he never would've previously been friends with), they made him a little mean spirited, they made the other characters be meaner to him and treat him as if he's stupid (more than usual), and they made him be in love with Nancy again. They could've done so much with his character that wouldn't have contradicted all of his growth, and yet.
Tumblr media
I say this all with good intentions, of course. I love Steve. He was one of my favorites when I first started watching the show. Which is why I was so upset about the way they wrote his character in season 4. He just didn't feel like the Steve I'd loved anymore. Was it a conscious decision? Is there a specific reason behind it we just haven't been shown yet? Or was it just poor writing? I hope whatever is going on with his character is either fixed or simply explained in season 5 (and I'm so excited to see he'll have at least one interaction with Jonathan!). I'm just a little worried they've run out of ideas for his character and are just going to kill him off next season without any explanation as to why his character took the turn it did.
Tumblr media
TLDR: I love Steve but the way his character was written in season 4 confused me.

Ramblings about my Sierra and just kinda world tour overall rewrite (but it's mostly Sierra). Buckle in, it's a long one.
So Sierra has always had a hard time connecting with people, she's never really knows why but it's been like this her entire life. Her mom always focused more on her Chris obsession than Sierra and her dad was never around so she grew self-sufficient early on. She also got into reality TV really early too (big brother. Survivor, project runway, ect.) I think her mom had her watch an old Chris show and it snowballed from there. She's been online for along as she could remember, bouncing around Fandoms until total drama. With total drama she became totally obsessed, doing what she already did in Canon (except the stalking). She managed to become friends with izzy early and she gave her content for her blog and she also managed to interview cody a couple times.
When she got on world tour she was so excited and she was even more excited when izzy switched her teams, Heather, Courtney, and Gwen were her favorite contestants and she already felt like she was friends with Cody. When it comes to the other contestants I think she got along with team victory, Owen, and Izzy for the most part (DJ, Bridget, and Leshawna were put off by her but friendly)<- same with Gwen and Cody till a certain point. She didn't really enteract with Tyler or Zeke, but Courtney, Noah (both like Cody, till a certain point) and Duncan where more hostile. Heather was complicated but I'll go into that in a different post, and she saw through Alejandro from moment one and was more proactive about it than she was in Canon but also they get to a point where they understand and empathize with eachother.
Going into some of them more, her and Harold had a short and sweet friendship (they play dnd together post-canon), she bonds with Lindsay through fashion (all those years of project runway came in handy) she takes Sierra shopping sometimes post-canon and wears anything Sierra makes her. She has what was mostly one-sided beef with Noah because of how elusive he was between seasons (he didn't tell izzy shit) but then Noah decided to be snarky asshole and crossed the line with her a good couple times while she doesn't fight back cuz she never fights back. When he comes back tho they and Heather form an anti-alejando alliance and their relationship gradually gets better. Courtney's Courtney but after paris she softens a little (instead of a breakdown surrounding Cody it's surrounding team amazon seeing her as a tool more than anything after pretending to be her friends) but they're not good until Greece, Sierra was there to listen to her more than anyone else and didn't put her game infront so by the final 4 court is rooting for her or alejandro. Finally Cody had major issues communicating boundaries and found Sierra as a nessecary annoyance until Paris where they (and heather) had an actual discussion about it, him and Sierra then got closer and closer each episode until London, when Noah crosses the line for a final time and Cody snaps at him, that's when him and Sierra become best friends. She managed to bargain with the crew to get her knitting stuff and made Cody a sweater for his birthday, he ends up getting eliminated in rapa nui so she gives it to him with the promise he won't open it till the next episode.
Everything else plays out like it does in cannon more-or-less, Noah instead of Cody, more humanizing alejandro stuff, heatherra, ect. (Also no more robot) her and alejandro are recovery buddies and also start a podcast after.
So yea this was long and mostly about dynamics more than anything but this has been rattleling around in my head for a while now

Okay brain being turned into goo aside: Ruby & Sapphire are fucking adorable. Their designs are adorable & they act adorable & then just-
They just let two gay characters be gay on screen & they didn't try to insist that they're "good friends" like
It's just gay shit
This was in 2013
Back in 2013 I was still in my denial phase. See when I was a kid, being gay was just an extremely common insult & any gay representing I saw in media was usually just "gay people are so fucking weird haha" & I was....
I was very insistent that I was straight. Like because I was conditioned to associate being gay as being a loser who gets bullied.
I wish I had watched this show back in the day.
I really did need a wake up call at that age.
But from what I see, this show clearly helped a lot of queer folk during a time where gay people weren't exactly being given the best treatment.
Not that we aren't targeted today but it was definitely way less common to see Lgbtq+ stuff in mainstream media. And I'm so glad that this show helped so many of you.
I think if I had watched this show back then, maybe 13 year old Daniel might have made better choices. But I'm glad I saw it now.
Okay let's just get it out of the way.
So uhm....J-Jasp....J-Ja....Jaaas- Y'know uh that uh....uh the uh...J-....J-Jasper. Uh............
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daniel stop immediatley falling in love with every buff woman they see challenge (Impossible I can't help it woman who are built like tanks make my nonbinary ass go brrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR)
Ok don't get my wrong Jaspers an asshole & I'm glad Garnet fucking kicked her shit in but like.....I mean I can't fix her but I still would.
Also THAT FUCKING SONG
Oh my God THAT SONG WAS SO GOOD THAT WAS A FUCKING MASTERCLASS MUSICAL PIECE
PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION PEAK FICTION
"YOU'RE JUST MAD CUZ YOU'RE SINGLE." YEAAAAHHH GET HER ASS GARNET YOU FUCKING GO QUEEN SLAAAAAAYYYYYYYY
.
I am.....I am beyond floored. I am under the floor.
I cannot fucking fathom what insane shit lays ahead of me. But if THIS was only the first part.....oh God. What fucking insanity awaits me in the future. I am headed into a storm & I am not turning back. Together we shall face this storm & prepare ourselves for what we shall witness. Come my friends, let us set forthwith.
My brain is fucking goo & I cannot type coherently rn. Oh my God this was a fucking masterpiece. How is this only season 1? You're telling me it's gonna get MORE INSANE? I AM GOING TO BE LIQUID BY SEASON 4.
Also kinda fucked up that no one said anything about Peridot. Just kinda ignored the fact that she is possibly dead?
Like, is no one else concerned about this? Like, not one of you said anything? Like, you guys were with her you aren't even gonna say anything? Damn.
Fucking cold.
Anyways I'll be making some adjustments to the masterpost & once that refinement is done, I'll be starting season 2
Also from now on, every episode, I will do a drawing to add to the post. This will make posts slower but I think it'll be fun. And it'll help me with my art block struggles
Also it's an excuse to draw Pearl. ♡
See you guys in Season 2!!
- Sincerely, your moderator
Daniel (a.k.a. Toasty)

Caved and decided to share my maim OC in the camp camp art style and universe
Even though I made my character in the camp camp art style a while ago the person that inspired me to post it/expand on it was @brewingcoffi with their OC, go check out their blog their stuff is so cool!
Lore and character under the cut
But anyways this is basically my main OC Jessie during the epilogue of her story. Where everything is (kind of) resolved and shes just left to pick up the pieces of the aftermath.
After her whole fiasco shes sent to Juvie for 11 months and afterwards sentenced house arrest and court ordered therapy, and after a while of being at home for house arrest shes granted permission to go to a camp to help her get re socialized with other “normal” children. And thats how she ends up at Camp Camp, specifically during seasons 1-4 since I don’t know if I want to draw her what she’d look like during season 5.
With an eye missing and a whole lot of baggage, literally and figuratively, she signs up for writing camp.
And she ends up having a great time! Not at the star at first cuz shes a little emo, but she starts making friends with the other campers, specifically Harrison. Shes one of the most troublesome camper besides Max but shes not seen as such by anyone other than Max because she inherited her father’s master manipulation skills.
Like father like daughter.
She has a stuffed bear similar to Mr honeynuts (Max’s bear) but it doesn’t hold the same weight since its really just a placeholder for another plush she had. Plus she has a pet emotional support raccoon that she successfully was able to take with her.
Her relationship with the other campers and counselors is how I rank it down here:
1. Harrison
Harrison is her tent-mate and her best friend at camp, basically like a brother to her, twin brother if you will since they found out they were born on the same day. Shes basically his number one supporter in magic and he frequently reads her stories and gives feedback.
2. David
She participates on the activity of torturing him with the other campers but she secretly sees him as a father figure, and hes the first one she goes to in the middle of the night when she cant sleep due to night terrors, and makes him make her a midnight snack.
3. Dolph
As an artist to another artist, they love each other’s company, Jess likes to draw too but more in a doodle kind of way and not of still life or arts and crafts kind of way. She likes watching Dolph paint in a way to call her down, and Dolph likes asking her if he could paint a scene from her stories.
4. Ered
Like everyone, she thinks Ered is cool, and admires Ered and even has a crush on her. WHICH IS BAD BY THE WAY! Cuz she has SEVERE mommy and daddy issues and anyone either older, cooler, maturer, and or smarter than her she will probably have a crush on them. But OTHER than that, they have a nice friendship where Jess asks Ered to teach her tricks on the skateboard, it does not usually go well.
(Oh and fun fact I actually met Ered’s voice actor and even got a signature from her at a con I worked at, she was so nice and shes just a really cool person)
5. Nerris
Jess has played DND before which leaves Nerris to frequently ask her to play with them, and sometimes Nerris would ask for story telling advice for future campaigns.
6. Preston
Jess’s mom and dad were both actors so she grew up having love for the industry, back when she still looked up to them. She even wanted to be an actor briefly when she was six but she grew out of it. Which leads Preston to cast her first in his plays since shes
“one of the only amateurs at this camp with an ounce of talent in her bones” -Preston
Although shes absolutely horrible at singing and pretty un-enthusiastic about acting. Not to mention she thinks Preston’s scripts are awful and once proposed to write on for him, he didn’t talk to her for four weeks in spite.
7. Neil
Her best friend outside of camp is literally THE BIGGEST NERD IN EXISTENCE TO THE POINT HES CONSIDERED A PRODIGY, which leads to her having a soft spot for nerds such as Neil.
And with what we are shown in season 3 episode 6, he falls easily for girls who know basic science. Which with Neil being the socially awkward person he is, sometimes he unintentionally makes her uncomfortable. Plus not to mention she enjoys Harrison fucking with him with magic, she finds it incredibly funny to the point its a little mean spirited. Other than all that other stuff she sometimes hangs out with him while Nikki and Max are doing their own things as she watches him do whatever science thing he happens to be doing.
8. Nikki
They don’t interact much, but Jess enjoys hanging out with her from time to time, and Nikki is the only other person Tim (Jess’s raccoon) likes.
9. Gwen
Her least favorite counselor but thats not saying much since theres only two of them. She still enjoys Gwen’s company and their relationship increases over the course of the summer, where Gwen helps Jess with her issues and complicated feelings towards her mother.
10. Space kid
She thinks hes weird, treats him like everyone else does unfortunately. Shes not really better than the others.
11. Max
Max doesn’t like her for most of the summer, because hes challenged for the title of being the biggest bastard at camp. Plus whenever she does said trouble, she gets away with it most of the time unless she’s cornered where she resorts to blaming it all on Max when he didn’t do shit for a change, and she is believed because shes seen as the ✨quiet sweet troubled girl✨ in David’s eyes and Max is Max.
They do end up having a partners in crime dynamic, specifically after parents day when he sees only her best friend came even its a PARENTS day. Which makes their dynamic more like a big sister and little brother, in the way ACTUAL siblings act.
12. Nerf
Hates how he physically bullies the other campers, in a way that isn’t entertaining to her.
13. Quarter master
Like the rest of the campers she thinks he’s INCREDIBLY weird even though shes used to supernatural elements so thats saying a lot.
14. Cameron Campbell
Hates him the same amount as the others.
15. The wood scouts
Has to restrain herself from making Edward join the one eye club eveytime she meets him, along with his posey but I forget if Snake has a damaged eye or no eye at all.
16. The flower scouts
Hates them the most and thinks they’re absolutely insufferable. Sasha reminds her of her mother especially and overall would pick a fight with them if she wasn’t literally held down BY THE LAW.
Thats it on this, I’m cringe but I’m free ~☆

Legend of Korra First Watch: Book 2 Thoughts
Decided on doing just overall thoughts instead of posting about every episode like I did with Book 1. Anyway, I... don't hate this Book (it's really hard for me to hate something), but it made lots of decisions that I really dislike.
Full list under the cut.
------Unalaq is a terrible antagonist. He has none of Tarrlok's charisma, and none of Amon's threatening presence. I understand his motivations from just a "okay I get what he's trying to do" standpoint, but, I don't quite understand why exactly this is something he himself wanted to do. The only reason I can think of is that he's more attuned to the spiritual world, and therefore he wants to reconnect it with the material world. Now, that makes sense, but IMO it's simply... not enough? The things he did to accomplish the goal seem so damn overboard when weighed against the goal itself. Why not just hammer the spiritual training into Korra? Was he just that far gone after having a hand in banishing his brother that he felt all he could do was take extremes? And why try to use Vaatu specifically to accomplish this feat when, as a spiritual man, Unalaq should know how destructive Vaatu is? Is it because Unalaq is so spiritual that he came to resent Wan's decision to close off the material world and spiritual world, and therefore resent the Avatar as a concept due to being Wan's reincarnation?
That last question is honestly the conclusion I'm sticking to, unless someone else can possibly grant other insight without spoiling Books 3 and 4. I'm a thinker, and I've thought out as many avenues as I can when trying to give this slightly above average waterbender with a white-bread personality a deeper reason as to why he's such a cunt.
------From what I've seen, the most controversial aspect of this season is the backstory of the Avatar, how bending was obtained/cultivated, and the existence of Raava and Vaatu.
I myself don't dislike the Avatar concept having a backstory-but, I'm the type of person where I don't need constant exposition, lore dumps, or over explanations of anything. If they are to be included, I really, really want them done well or else what's honestly the point?
The Wan episodes are artistically breathtaking, seriously, shoutout to the animators and whoever was the animation director or decision maker, cuz those episodes looked beautiful. Wan as a character I have no qualms with. He seemed to have started what I consider a "cardinal Avatar sin" where he jumps to conclusions and makes a decision that results in disastrous consequences. Korra does it, Aang did, and Roku did it (from what I've heard, Kyoshi, Kuruk, and Yangchen did stuff like that too). No issue here, I think having consistent Avatar-ness to a person's character-no matter how otherwise different their personality is to their past lives-is neat.
The bending thing is... half-baked. Apparently a point of ire among the Avatar audience is that TLOK retcons bending's origins from being taught by natural sources (dragons/badger moles/sky bison/the moon+the spirit koi) to being something that the lion turtles grant. I see the issue, though from what I understand, it's that the tion turtles give the power of elements to people, but spirits and animals teach the form (e.g. the difference between Wan bending fire as he learned from a dragon spirit versus how his friends from the city use it). So technically at once both a retcon and not one, though retcons themselves aren't inherently bad. My issue is that this revelation is a bit half baked, same as how ATLA introduced energy bending in Book 3. It comes and goes with fanfare, but little substance given how important it is.
------Raava and Vaatu get their own bullet point cuz maaaaaan, I don't like what these two are whatsoever.
On paper, having the Avatar be a fusion of a person and a spirit makes sense given their role as the bridge between worlds, and serves as a... fine enough explanation as to why they can bend all elements.
What I take umbrage with is that it seems their existence is inherently contradictory to what the story's trying to say. Raava kept Vaatu under wraps for 10,000 years to "maintain balance" but.... balance isn't one spirit dominating the other? One being light and the other being darkness isn't an issue (cuz light isn't always good and darkness isn't always evil), but one being chaos and the other being peace is an issue IMO. Peace is not a neat opposite of chaos, order is. Peace's opposite is war, peace can be orderly or chaotic and war can as well. Changing that one line of Raava's would've saved me a headache, though it still wouldn't change my problem with how they're fucking fighting for control of one another instead of trying to balance each other out. It's a mess, and it's one of the things of this season that should've been deconstructed and reconstructed some more before being released.
------Korra losing her connection to her past lives is certainly something. Definitely a thing that happened. Yeah.
Being serious for a second, I don't hold this against Korra whatsoever and never will. Much like Book 1 (and honestly what I expect for the next two seasons unfortunately), Book 2 is written as if the only way to beat Korra is to throw the unexpected at her. And that can work... for the first time. But subsequent times in a new season reads as cheap. IMO, it doesn't become a "oh they made Korra too strong and don't know how to actually give her a proper challenge to overcome and grow" situation, it becomes a "they don't know how to actually construct a challenge period without raising the stakes." Now those things sound like the same, but the difference is that Korra isn't strong in many defineable ways; she's impatient and hotheaded, spiritually inept, and has serious identity issues as a result of not being able to separate herself from being the Avatar. So those weaknesses are taken advantage of in both Book 1 and Book 2. But the difference is that Book 2 suddenly raises the stakes and consequences seemingly out of nowhere.
Amon taking away her bending is palpable and meaningful cuz we've seen it done many times before in Book 1 and that itself is a grand consequence. Raava getting ripped from Korra and being defeated, is also itself a grand consequence. It means Korra goes through a deeper identity crisis by not having her Avatar powers anymore, failing in her duty to maintain balance with her spiritual side, and not being able to stop the spirit and material worlds from destroying each other. That was enough.
So why now, does she also lose her connection the past lives? Raava was already established as being unable to be completely destroyed by Vaatu, so why does her defeat mean the past 10,000 years of Avatars are erased? Did I miss something? It doesn't make sense to me, and there's no reason for its inclusion other than to give more baggae onto Korra when the girl has already been through so fucking much. It feels tacked on and cheap, a shallow attempt to introduce consquences that ends up coming off as superfluous.
------Okay, even though I spent the previous paragraphs criticizing how the spiritual aspect of this season was done, I gotta say this: idk if this is an unpopular opinion, but I greatly disliked every moment in the show where it wasn't directly related to the spirit world.
Varrick's jokes fall flat for me half the time, and being a war profiteer is objectively interesting, but doesn't make me like him any more.
The relationship stuff again in this show is just so uncomfortable to watch since the dichotomy between the show attempting to tackle serious subjects and philosophy while simultaneously having the cast being terrible communicators is jarring and not a fun watch, and I'm happy that Korra and Mako broke up at the end.
Speaking of Mako, god fuuuuuuuck, I was so tempted to fast forward every time there was a police force scene. Now, I hate the police irl a lot, but this is a TV show and unless a show is attempting commentary on irl police, I don't bother to bring my own dislike into media criticism. However, this is still a TV show meant to entertain, and nothing about police is entertaining when you don't do anything with them. It's paperwork, lazy cops who are bad at their jobs, bureaucracy, taking advantage of people, refusal of other perspectives, infighting, etc. That shit's not fun to hear about or watch in real life, and it certainly isn't better in animated form either. Mako seems devoid of any character beyond the archetypal "troublemaker becomes law enforcement" and not getting believed, Lin is almost nonexistent which is a shame given how cool she was in Book 1, and every attempt at humor with the police and the gangs does not land cuz they're not likeable in any way. At least Varrick, though I didn't care for his quips half the time, had charm and was fun to watch! Nothing about the police force was fun to watch, and it was only as interesting as a "Rookie Detective B Plot" can be.
Now, Bolin's stint as an actor works in the grand scheme of what the Book's entire message/theme was, that being finding what you want to do and detaching yourself from what's expected/enforced upon you. I just found myself getting bored with watching his acting stuff. And yeah he's cute in the outfit, but honestly? I don't quite get the internet hullabaloo about him as Nuktuk. As a Gay™️ Lover of Men™️, he's certainly attractive, but he just doesn't do anything for me. Muscles are great, but idk, I'm not a fan of round faces or the Cute Excited flavor of Himbo. Maybe it's also cuz he's a teenager, and I've always found physical maturity to be extremely hot.
He also lowkey sexually assaulted his co-star, so he's not making my favorite character list anytime soon. I won't forget that he did this, though I do hope the next two Books give him something that pulls him out of the trench, cuz I'd hate to dislike him at the end of this.
------Uh, anyway. Themes! Characterization! Development! Yay! I liked it all. I think the message of finding yourself for who you are rather than what you think you're meant to be is inspiring and a good thing for younger audiences to hear. Korra obviously is the most significant example of this, but maaaaaan, I knew I was right to love Tenzin so much. He tries so hard to be Aang that he lacks identity for himself. It reminds me of when Iroh told Zuko, "Who are you? And what do you want?" And I think the emotional throughline from ATLA to this show was shining and it paid off. Tenzin didn't need to be shackled by Aang's legacy, he just needed to be himself. The mini instances of this while him and his family are vacactioning are great set ups to this; how he interacts with his siblings, trying to teach Meelo to lead through strict and isolating methods, and being almost envious or jealous that Jinora is so spiritually gifted while he's not. Ugh, he's just so great.
Like I said earlier, Bolin's moments in the season also fall neatly into this theme, and even Desna and Eska showed some growth from being their dad's lackeys to doing what they think they need to do rather than just what's expected from Unalaq. Bumi and Kya show promise in this regard, though there hasn't been a resolution. They've showcased baggage about being lowkey neglected by Aang in comparison to Tenzin, but beyond the siblings resolving their own differences, there wasn't anything else said about it. Maybe it's cuz they're both older, and don't feel the need to do the things Tenzin does, but eh. IMO there's always room for older characters to have well developed stories!
All of this makes it more confusing why Mako and Asami are kind of... not like this. They show shades of it (Mako being something other than Korra's boyfriend, and Asami being more than just Future Industries new owner), but nothing has come of it since there was so much focus on the police investigations rather than their characters. It's very disappointing, especially since in Book 1 Asami had a great showing in spite of the small time she had, and I felt Mako had potential.
That's about it I think. Deffo a step down from Book 1 to me, though I didn't find it absolutely terrible. Just sloppy. There's salvageable things here, but for the most part I find myself thinking "why couldn't this be done better?"
I heard that Book 3 is considered the best, or at least is a big fan favorite of the entire series. I have high expectations then. See you on the other side.

i have things to say about my little tv shows now ok. 1) the big thing i know we all care so much about. the change in showrunners for greys from krista vernoff (my enemy for real) to someone new. i had to look her up it’s meg marinis and i have tentatively decided to trust her because i looked up what episodes she’s written and she HAPPENS to be the writer behind my favorite greys episode ever. not that that makes the episode good i was just 17 and there was a scene in there that gay 17 year old beth desperately needed at that time. we don’t have to get into it. also she wrote the last 2 episodes of season 19 which i remember being INSANE in the straight people department (lucas and simone!!!!) so. i’m trusting her. meg i am putting my faith in you. do not let me down.
2) jo and link BORING. don’t care for them sorry! not all straight people are winners some of them are lame and pale in comparison to the interns realness and the iconicity of miranda bailey and ben warren…. 3) speaking of my queen miranda bailey. oh it’s all coming together… full circle moment!! she’s in charge of the interns! she’s the best damn teacher in that hospital! yay! rip what’s his name we hardly knew you. because you were boring. (referring to meredith’s lame boyfriend who was previously teaching the interns and is now moving to boston to be with meredith)
and now. station 19, first of all they set my girl up… they changed the time slot to 10 and made this their last season… all for what. 911??? someone needs to kill themselves for this. i’ll see you in hell whatever abc executive designed this. anyway. 2) the good thing about this being. the end 😐 (and we all know how well i do with endings.) is that finally the endgames will become clear. this is a show in which. SO much has happened with every character’s arc i don’t even remember it all it’s been on for seven years ok it started as a show about a woman trying to fill her father’s shoes on her way to becoming the captain of the fire station they both work in. our girl has lost so many times it is unreal, she has had that captain position stolen from her roughly a thousand times, her romantic life has been in shambles since day one i won’t even go there rn. anyway so from episode one it’s clear that her arc this season now that she HAS the captain title is going to be about becoming the BEST captain, and she will!! i believe in my girl and i always have!! and jack’s arc will clearly be about figuring out his life without being a firefighter now that he has all that brain damage. and so on and so forth. we can finally see an end in sight to these characters hectic ass lives and thank fucking god because station 19 is one of the most stress inducing shows i’ve ever watched. 3) as well as that. the romantic endgames will become clear. i can see the full picture forming i can finally begin to see it all… as i said earlier i have been rooting for jack and andy endgame since day one and frankly if that one in a million win happens. i’ll probably explode idk i never thought what might happen if i actually won there i don’t really expect to. the romantic endgames are not all clear i was using this point as a lead in to point 4. so 4) travis… well i’ve known for years they were always going to go back to travis and emmett. i knew that random british man was not long for my man travis the second he came in. listen. travis and emmett started ages ago, and they broke up and became friends and the actor playing emmett left the show and then they brought him back cuz they liked him so much. and i knew the moment they kept bringing him back. this is endgame and i better get used to it. so it’s a good thing i never had anything against travis and emmett because well it looks like i was right this is endgame bye british guy hashtag america strong hashtag declaration of independence hashtag go back to where you came from etc. sorry i really don’t care for that british man he was like. mildly tolerable last season but i never wanted him to stay around this long it’s fucked up. anyway. loved travis and emmett’s little cheating moment as emmett grieves his shitty dead dad who we all hated for being a republican <3 loved that they had sex in emmett’s mother’s house while she was probably like two rooms away and also i have a keen eye and like that was a room without a damn door they were in when they started tearing each other’s clothes off. as my mother commented. “in the living room???” real as fuck mom… anyway slay. point 3a) vic and ruiz can’t possibly be endgame right. god they probably are. fuck my life 🙄 god he’ll never be ripley…. you had to be there at the time it was the moment at the time….
yeah. anyway. lots of wins for straight people tonight. i wish they were real :( also some wins for the gays of those shows, maya and carina as always serving up their bland boring network tv lesbian couple swag. kinda obsessed tbh. maya has had a rough time of it in these seven seasons she deserves to be boring and lame now i think <3 my buddy schmidt still kinda losing the Take Me Seriously war. i fear if these six years have been any indication he never will win that battle. BUT. remember that meg is running the show now…. meg loves him… i mean clearly meg loves him she wrote The Episode….. meg i won’t ask for much but if it’s not too much trouble could you perhaps give a think on bringing back nico before they pull the plug on your show… just consider…. i’d really like it a lot if i got to see him even just one more time….. no worries if not meg i’m not trying to get greedy out here. however if you give my guy a krista core bullshit love interest i’ll kill you myself. peace and love. (krista core means bad btw. we HATE krista vernoff. boooooo) anyway. so that’s my thoughts. heart

Tagged by: Fave of faves @bethanyactually--and usually I save every post I'm tagged in to (at least theoretically) do later, but since I actually have returned to watching and listening to things lately, I'm gonna do this one right now.
Last song: Like You Do by Josh Ramsay. And Christian Kane's cover of Fast Car, both of which were recced to me by Leander, who knew I should hear them. But also, while I haven't listened to any of it since Tuesday, I woke up with the Daisy Jones and The Six soundtrack playing in my head...just like it has been ever since I originally started watching the series. Today it's mostly been The River featuring Simone, Regret Me, and More Fun To Miss. I know enough of the lyrics now for the soundtrack to be my constant mental radio as I go about my day.
Currently watching: Nancy Drew S2 (I'm 4 episodes in and enjoying it a lot), Schmigadoon S2 (I've seen half of it and it's still fantastic and I'm bummed I only have 3 episodes to go) and today I'm about to start my Good Omens rewatch so I can head into the new season full of S1 feels. Because my best friend is literally the best, I'm also partly through a DJATS rewatch with Leander seeing it for the first time--making that my favorite thing I am watching right now.
Currently reading: Nightwork by Nora Roberts (I'm about halfway through it and have been borrowing it from @actuallylukedanes forever and I feel very bad about that! I will finish it! I'm also partly through How to Raise an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi, also on loan from Leander. And before that, I was (and remain) partway through literally 20 other ebooks of all kinds--most recently Zero Fail: The Rise and Fall of the Secret Service by Carol Leonnig. There's a ton of great nonfiction that I already have on my tablet and know I'll enjoy cuz I'm that kind of geek...I just rarely read anymore because reading time is time I'm not spending with my millions of other hobbies.
Current obsession: As referenced above, Daisy Jones and The Six, which I am so so happy Leander is watching with me--both helping me get it out of my system a little and letting me indulge even more in my love of it. After we watched it on Wednesday, I was able to listen to something that wasn't the soundtrack for the first time, so I just may be able to dial this obsession down to manageable levels at some point. But GUYS IT'S SO GOOD. I want to gif it as soon as I get back to Photoshop and I kind of want to read the book, when I didn't before. I just want to burrow into the world and live there, and I haven't felt that way in quite a while, about anything. (It's made it harder to engage with other things, which is why I originally was going to add Ted Lasso's completed final season to my week along with Nancy Drew and Schmigadoon, but ended up not doing so because my head and heart are full of DJATS right now. But I missed this feeling, too, so I'm happy to be in love again.)
No-pressure tagging: @actuallylukedanes, @jicklet, @jakeperalta, @beturass, @hondagirll, @mythologicalmango, @dollsome-does-tumblr, @anextrapart, @sentichefuoripiove, @robbiedaymonds and anybody else who wants to do this.

Random rant about OPLA
(Keep in mind I’m an anime watcher only, currently on Thriller Bark arc)
I don’t understand how everyone and their mom, from manga readers to anime watchers and first time viewers, seem to agree that OPLA is fucking amazing, I really don’t like it that much??? I just watched ep 4 and I just think none of the motivations for any of the characters are ever layed out properly? And their core elements aren’t defined and explicit at all. Like when Usopp said he wouldn’t run away anymore. When was it ever shown that he had been running away from things all his life? The only moment when he ran away from danger to save himself was when Klahador attacked him in the basement. It is also barely shown that he is constantly lying about pirates coming to the city before he had to warn everyone about the pirates in Kaya’s house. there’s just a flashback to when he was a kid and that’s IT. He also barely had any importance in the whole “arc”, the only thing he did was shoot Klahador once in the last fight (and that single shot made Luffy think he’s an amazing rifleman??) He had almost no meaningful interactions with the rest of the crew to warrant Luffy inviting him to come along with them. Imma just list other things that I didn’t like and are annoying me:
When the crew was captured by Buggy and Luffy said “not everything has to be solved with a fight” HE WOULD NOT FUCKING SAY THAT??? He beats the shit out of anyone that dares hurt his friends or gets in his way (in a playful way ofc, he’s Brazilian and I am too, Luffy speaks to me on a spiritual level)
Zoro talks like he’s been dead for a week all the time, not a single emotion come through in his voice, I know he’s serious and mysterious but he’s also playful and a little bit silly from time to time, and besides a few jokes and snarky comebacks at Nami, that has not been shown at all up until now
I’m probably being extremely nitpicky cuz obviously the LA has a lot less time to flesh out the characters than the anime and manga did, but what I really don’t get is how EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE INTERNET is saying that it is THE perfect adaptation of Oda’s vision in the manga???? I expected the insane OP fans to notice these things too but I haven’t seen a single negative comment about the LA. Anyways. I haven’t watched all of it yet and there’s still a loooot to come in future seasons so it could improve later. Also most of my complaints can be resolved when the strawhats become closer ig

As I have said before. I am done. I can’t. I can’t watch it and I am not going to even watch season 4. It’s too heartbreaking and I have no fucking hopes for season 5. I just watched Will and Mike’s clip in the van , the Mike el forehead touch and Mike monologue and I can’t believe they can hate a character to this degree.
I feel like they had too many ideas and instead of keeping it simple and core to the main characters they tried to do too many different things from different references (remember the white board with all movie names they took their so called inspiration from) that it turned into a big flop.
To have an unrequited love is fine
To have an unrequited gay love is also fine
But in this situation with everything that we have seen so far from season 1
IT IS NOT FINE
The whole thing doesn’t make sense. Mike wheeler doesn’t make sense. His character went from the leader, the protector, the person who could tell Will was alive by just his breathing, the person who knew his mood or if he was okay is now a prop for Eleven, he didn’t even questioned why Will is crying, didn’t even noticed ???? And actually smiled when Will said El needs you. I can’t !!!! Mike’s character couldn’t be more degressed they made him into a pathetic asshole who is like a jerk to his best friend of 10 years apparently for no reason and the only problem he has is telling eleven I love you back
The whole Eleven’s development till Season 4 Vol1 flushed down the drain by getting back together with Mike because of his love for her.
And I can’t even formulate about Will, the once Main Character reduced to a gay pining selfless boy who only touches his neck when he senses vecna. He has been through so much so so much and he thinks he is a mistake 💔
This all is just lazy ass writing trying to keep your audience (mileven shippers) happy. Everything boiling down to that lousy, zero genuine Mike monologue and they called that his best acting !
They used Will’s feelings to push Mike and Eleven together. They treated Will’s character and his feelings like shit. He opened his entire heart to Mike ! Told him he is the heart of the group all so that Mike can tell Eleven I love you. I hate this. They treated his character like shit, his feelings were like device to prove mileven is endgame. It already was !!!! They both are dating for two seasons now. They made him so miserable.
And I with my own two eyes saw the swing set in vol1 I was not tripping. I mean how that painting changed
I give up. I got way too attached. My mistake.
I have never been queerbaited before this was my first time and I can’t handle it tbh.
This is homophobic and queerbaiting to the next level
I honestly believed Byler was real. Will deserves so much, I can see that he is going to sacrifice in the future. He basically did that now in season 4 for Mike to be with El
I learnt my lesson the hardest way possible
And yes it’s queerbaiting !!!
I mean the actors are telling one thing in the interviews and series is completely different
Finn was like “Mike is trying to be normal and is in to new things “ and Mike’s entire I love you monologue to Eleven was fucking forced ! So forced!
Duffers said “ he was given some hard hitting stuff. His best acting” wtf
Duffers said “the painting is important they had several drafts.” In vol1 i could see the swing set with my own two bloody eyes but it is not swing set it is something else”
Duffers said “Will’s sexuality will be addressed” I am like where?
Welcome to American media. Here they show that they're inclusive but no our main cast is obviously CIS het people. Cuz omg are you kidding me?
This morning Netflix crashed so they got the money alright
I don’t have it in me to watch stranger things anymore I think I know where they are going with this.
I am hoping and I will happy if Will turns out to be a villain
I am going to be in Byler land reading fics and just whatever happened today didn’t happened
And for the record I am straight, I just fell in love with Will’s character and then realized Byler while watching. And I have queer friends and people in my family who do think the same thing and ship Byler. [ I had made a post about how I started shipping Byler. I was hesitant to put it out. But if you’re interested in reading I will upload it ]
So no you guys here are not delusional at all. If I could see it, anyone can. It’s common sense and following the story it doesn’t have to be some kind of lens.
Either Noah and Finn are crushing over each other or Duffers are coward and chickened out. If they did, they are stupid enough to not realize the gold mine they were sitting on.
That’s it for my rant.

Ok. I just finally caught up on young Justice after stopping cuz watching m’gann cry for 2 mins straight on her wedding alter after conner died wrecked me. And I’m a little frustrated. Young Justice is one of my all time favorite shows I love to rewatch over and over but the end of season 4 made me kinda mad. Maybe it’s the nightwing stan in me but he did not get the ‘arc’ the rest of the main team got. I was looking forever in the tags to see if anyone had the same feeling but found nothing. Writing structure is not my forte, so stay with me please.
Tumblr media
When I first started this latest season, I understood that I might have to wait to see nightwing since there was gonna be some ridged character episode arcs. So I watched the intro of 7 of the founding members over and over for over 20 episodes. I was even pretty excited that they were saving his arc for last since it might be a big deal, but maybe that’s where it went wrong. Watching him be the first person in the intro every episode really made me believe he was gonna be important to the season (which usually hadn’t included character focus intros and was just the title except the very first season where it actually did focus on the characters in the intro).
Tumblr media
Instead I watched them give the smallest peek into his life by showing him back at halys for a hot sec and then have him quickly figure everything out and just assemble the rest of the team in one episode. That was it. He’s was just used to bring everyone else together and for the occasional comedy relief. In a season focused on healing trauma and growth, Dick Grayson had none of the above. Every other “main character” had some sort of personal progression in their own life. And Dick was back to saying he hates leading and lying to his friends. I was more than a little disappointed.
Tumblr media
There were so many opportunities for his character with Dick not getting over Wally’s death that was highlighted in season 3, and also having this show dangle Jason Todd in front of us every chance they get. Instead they faked nightwing a death for no reason other than adding drama to the episode’s ending. I genuinely could not enjoy the rest of the finale, even the cute wedding, because I was so upset they did that because I really wasn’t sure if the death was fake or not at the time.
Tumblr media
I did not write this to bash the show. As I said earlier Young Justice is one of my all time favorite shows. It was just very upsetting being led to think throughout the entire season that Dick Grayson was going to be focused on as an important part of the story, but then using his ‘arc’ to just wrap up the phantom zone plot the show was putting off til the end. I just wanted to air my grievances to see if anyone else was feeling the way I did. I am sure I will rewatch Young Justice again, but I might just stop after season 3.

Hey! How are you?I hope your well. And if you'd ask me. I'd say im not okay. Sorry now I'm gonna start talking and this is gonna be really long.
Yeah I just watched vol2 and there's a few things im feeling right now. First, of course sadness and there's this anger for 'Suffer brother". I want to ask you few question cuz i really like your analysis. So..:
I don't understand why they made this to Will. If it wasn't mutual, why did they make Will fall in love with Mike? If someone comes along and says no, he's not in love, I swear I'm going crazy. It was clear that he was in love.
And I can't go without saying. In an interview the other day, the Duffer brothers said that Mike's speech on vol2 was his best performance. Dude are you kidding us? Never in my life have I heard such an unemotional "i love you". It was very terrible. Surely Mike is a great actor and no one has the mouth to refuse to against that fact. But that scene was emotionless and deep down I want to believe they did it on purpose. I want to believe it's not just queerbaiting and they're going to make a meaningful slowburn. what are your ideas?
I don't even know what to do anymore. I waited for this day to be able to continue with my life officially, and that's how it happened. Since the day I found myself being a shipper, I've never had a 'male' gay ship canon in my life and I assure you that I had a lot of gay ships(nearly all of my lesbian/female gay ships became canon, thank God) . I'm tired of sobbing. I don't know, maybe I'm just exaggerating the ship things a bit, but as someone who defines herself as an artist, both my own fictions and the fictions of others make me feel very real and I believe that such things gain importance according to the value people give to them. I say this because even though I hate the Duffer brothers, I will continue to believe in love, and as long as I believe in love, I will believe in Byler. But I want to ask you. Do you think I should believe? Do you think there's still a chance for Byler? Is there any evidence that you can tell me that in season 5 they might be and up together?
I personally love the last scene, all my ships were side by side, Byler,Jancy,Jopper. And beside Byler the others are holding hands. And Eleven was alone. (And I thought this might be a cinematography thing?)I really adore cinematography and the slides you made were amazing. After I read them,I really had believe that there's a whole another plan under all of that. And thought that the Duffer brother have a huge plot setting and it is Byler. But now I think stranger things nothing but a another cliche show. If byler won't happen then this show has nothing. There's nothing special about it. And if Byler became canon. I would probably still don't like a lot of things in the show the brothers have made but I'm going to love the show. Because Byler is really special for me. What are your thoughts about the mistakes the brothers have made or might will make?
I'm gonna wait for your answers. Thank you so much in advance. I appreciate you for your analysis, slides, answers. Stay with health and love! ❤️
hello!
I am not doing great at the moment, I'm sorry you're not either <33 also thank you! and feel free to send me long messages anytime :)
I agree, it's 100% clear Will's in love with Mike, so why write that, if it's going to be unrequited...we don't need more of that. I'm so sick of that trope. It's low-key harmful to just portray gay people as pining over their straight friends, and it's clear that trope is only for the straight people watching, because it hurts the queer people to watch that & this is especially bad because Will is so self-less and so supportive of Mike & El in season 4 and is so reassuring to Mike that he and El will be okay, but if his feelings for Mike are unrequited that's just icky to portray Will like that, because they're just displaying him as a prop/plot device for the straight people, while he's on the sidelines miserable.
I read that interview too, and when the scene happened I was like, "this isn't it right? RIGHT?! Oh wait, oh god, this IS what they were talking about..."
I completely agree with everything you said here, this is beautifully put. Queer love is beautiful, and it does exist, regardless of what the media portrays.
I think there's still a chance we could get byler in season 5, (those ending shots were honestly the most compelling piece of evidence which is sad on its own), but I'm not confident that we will. I thought they had a plan too, I hope they still do. I think the way they handled byler in season 4, making it seem unrequited, if actually isn't, is the biggest mistake they made as far as byler goes. I think they made LOADS of other mistakes in terms of the storylines and the action this season too.
I will continue to hold out hope until the duffer brothers obliterate it (if they do) in season 5. I just updated the slides for season 4, vol. 2, with a few more pieces of evidence!!
Thanks for this message <3 I hope you're doing well! xx <33

Okay, major season 4 vol 2 rant here cuz I'm stupid and need to share my thoughts. Bare with me cuz these are my opinions and you can think whatever you want and it's okay!! I'm not here to fight anyone!!!
(And before you comment, I know I'm probably delusioning myself, I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but y'know what fuck it if it's not canon in the end I'll keep being a byler truther fuck everything)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Starting off with the obvious; byler.
Being fully honest with you? We may still have a chance. I watched it with my mom and she actually helped me come up with explanations that still point to byler being endgame.
(before we get into that, I just want to say that a lot of the stuff mentioned, shown or implied by cast or writers, was marketing. I hate it but there's always money involved.)
The first and most compelling one to me being Mike's internalized homophobia. We all know about that, but that can very much explain his behaviors here.
My mom had a friend that only actually accepted the fact she was bisexual on her thirties. Everyone knew, but she just couldn't accept it, and she also grew up in the eighties.
I feel like it's really important to consider the way Mike is raised. His father is extremely conservative, his mom isn't very present in his life, and he has absolutely no other role models, it was the eighties. Understanding that, let's get into the van scene on episode 8;
So, here we have a couple of options:
1. Mike didn't notice Will crying at all. The way the shot was taken made it look like Will was completely turned around, and Mike couldn't see his face. The reason for Mike not noticing, which would be very uncharacteristic for him, could be the fact that he was genuinely worried about El (he doesn't love her romantically, but he still loves her a lot platonically.), and also just the fact that the Byer's house was shot up, and they had to bury a dead man's body. I find this theory a bit less compelling considering Mike's usual behavior, but then again his usual internalized homophobia also plays a part in this.
2. Mike did notice Will was crying, but didn't say anything about it. That may seem shitty as fuck (and it is tbh), but let's analyse this;
They were in the van with two other people. We all know Mike doesn't want to accept himself, so he most definitely would NOT want to have a heart to heart around other people. He's already struggling to open up to himself, himself alone, so imagine saying how you truly feel around others, especially that you're not so close with? It can't be easy. Either way, his internalized homophobia plays onto it like always.
Him not comforting Will does seem extremely ooc, but he's changed a lot. He feels like he can't just be there for his "best friend" without it being weird. Could he have brought it up later? Yes but I feel like that's a different problem, considering they literally barely showed up at all this season. They didn't have any time alone like on volume 1, only the scene on Hopper's cabin, but they used that to make Will plot relevant again. (because he's only important when he means something to the plot of course of course/s)
;;
Still on the same scene, we get Will lying to Mike that it was El that commissioned the painting (goddamnit Will Byers I love you so much my baby). In my opinion, and really, really just my opinion cuz there isn't anything really pointing to it, Mike would've known that wasn't true. He knows El doesn't even like DnD, and maybe he even noticed that Will was talking about himself, and not El, but didn't comfort him because... See above. (Also yes I am very upset that the painting wasn't the swingset and I am also very upset that neither Will or Mike got vecna'd but see my point about marketing (which was also brought up by my mom))
;;
Moving on to what I feel is what most hurt my byler heart: Mike's 'i love you ' to El. Shit, here we go again, I'm being so delusional but idfc anymore. Here is my *possible* explanation to that:
Spur of the moment. They probably thought El was fucking dying right there, his 'i love you' may not even have meant anything romantic (we see Eddie and Dustin saying 'i love you' to each other when.. yeah.). There's also Will pushing forward their relationship. This feels sorta like a hate crime, but I stopped to think about it and.. it didn't do anything. Sure, Mike's 'i love you' helped El fight back and whatever whatever, but she still didn't talk to him much after that. Their relationship didn't really chance much. Coming back to Will pushing forward their relationship, it may have made Mike feel the need to say it, cuz at this point Will was practically making him say it.
That last point might also explain why Mike's monologue was so fucking shit. It sounded fake, and forced, and nothing had been pointing to the reason he didn't say 'i love you' to El being that he was afraid of losing her. Nothing. If anything, they almost paralelled it with stancy, and we know that (at least back in the first seasons, now I'm not so sure :/) Nancy couldn't say 'i love you' to Steve because *she didn't love him*.
I still feel like that was like. Totally unecessary? They're making us doubt shit hard here, but I almost feel like they're doing that on purpose? I don't know, I'm delusional I'm sorry
;;
Some lesser points here.
I'm sad as fuck we didn't get a byler hug. They didn't parallel the hand hold scene either. Ffs.
Still tho, I feel like they might, they MIGHT do this on season five (I'm not putting my full trust on them anymore). Byler wasn't the only relationship with unresolved problems this season, Jancy did too. They're still lying to each other. I feel like the duffers are doing this to up the hype for the next season, again. There's money involved here and we all know that money's probably what they most care about 😐
Also, Mike and El didn't kiss once. Like not once. Idk that just. Feels important considering all they did was kiss on s3

Moving on from byler, and continuing with my marketing point, they like. Lied to us so fucking much.
Started off with saying Peter Ballard was Henry's real name, and then saying that we'll find out why Will was the first one taken, and why the UD is stuck on the day he was taken... Those were all lies. For marketing, most likely.
Do I think we'll figure that out next season? Yeah. I mean, they made it seem very much like Will is going to be very plot relevant again next season.

Everything else;
Honestly? I really liked it.
At least while watching, I didn't really get bored like I saw some people saying (then again, maybe I'm just weird).
Lumax made me so happy, and I'm so glad we got Jopper too!
Also the other character interactions like with Dustin and Eddie, and then Dustin and Wayne at the end :(
Fuck the duffers for making me think Robin's love life was destroyed but GODDAMN VICKY (idk how to spell her name I'm sorry) AND ROBIN ARE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER AND I KIND OF LOVE THEM???? Idk I fell in love with Vicky's character from the start, even though she showed up for like 5 minutes.
Am I sad we didn't get ronance? Yeah, but at least she isn't the classic "sad gay pines for straight person" shit.

Final thoughts:
Was the way byler was advertised for vol 2 still queerbaiting? Yes and I'm still fucking pissed at that. I'm also pissed at how much we got lied to. Do I have my hopes up for byler? Nope, trust issues after today. Do I still have a tiny small insignificant slither of hope left? I hate to say it but yeah. If delusioning myself for the next year and a half is what I have to do to stay sane then it is what I will do. If I end up losing then well... At least I'll have my mom on my side. She's a queen. Love her.
I'm definitely way too damn hopeful about this but I am just self destructive like that I guess.

Lost :P
Thank you for the ask @obsessivedaydreamer and @eponine119 who also asked for LOST
TV ASK TIME
Favorite episode and why
I don't really have one. It's always switching around between one of Kate's or one of Jack's or one of Sawyer's or one of Juliet's. I can't really pick one. But yeah, it's a switcharoo of one of those. They're some of my favorite characters and I like getting more character development for them, that's the main reason.
2. Funniest/crackiest/it’s-terrible-but-I-still-love-it episode/scene
Oh I love the scene with the glasses. Even seeing the gif on my feed gets me laughing and makes my days better. The disgust in Sawyer's face, the way Kate teases him, the tone Jack uses (that I can't even hear in the gifs, except in my head it's so clear), my god... lol
3. It’s-terrible-and-I-hate it episode/scene
To not go with Exposé, the Fire + Water episode. Ugh.
4. Best episode/scene for my favorite character
This is probably the hardest question, but either Tabula Rasa or Eggtown. At least right now. Ask again tomorrow and it might change lmao
5. Best episode/scene for my favorite ship
the scene where Kate catches Jack reading to Aaron and they make out after lol nah. I really, really like their first kiss. There's a lot to unpack there, but it had me squealing because I didn't see it coming.
6. Best episode/scene for a particular supporting character
Define supporting character lol
For Lost that's kind of hard, because a lot of the "main" cast feel like supporting characters more than main characters, even though the names of the cast pop up in alphabetic (last name) order to insinuate that they'd have roughly the same amount of relevance and screen time which is untrue since most of it falls to the A-team. And then sometimes I find myself thinking of some characters as supporting characters even though, technically, they're main characters. You know what I mean? ugh.
And I don't really like the characters that are ACTUAL supporting characters. But to go for like a side-side-side (more of a side, than a supporting really) character, I really like the post-rescue scene of Kate and Cassidy together talking about Sawyer.
7. Best episode/scene for a character I don’t usually like
Any scene between Sharon and Sayid. He made her character more interesting and more bearable for me.
8. Most visually beautiful or interesting episode/scene
Aside from that shot of Sun on the beach? lol God... the pilot. The pilot has incredible shots. Most of season 1 does, really, but the pilot is outstanding.
9. Most emotionally affecting episode/scene
Idk. I wasn't really... moved by any episodes (the friend that got me watching the show was so mad at me for actually being happy when a few people died lol) but... I guess the scene where Kate leaves Aaron behind, not because of the scene itself but because I couldn't help but picture the hell that kid would have to go through in the morning, even though she had told him who Carole was. She was still all he knew and the poor thing would be heartbroken.
10. Most powerful use of music in an episode/scene
Make your own kind of music as a season opener. Period.
11. Episode/scene that changed my perspective on the show
I don't think there was one other than the pilot. I watched the show cuz I made a trade with a friend. He would watch my comfort show, I would watch his. (I've done my part ¬¬) So I guess the pilot? I thought I was gonna hate it and I loved it and I couldn't stop watching the show.
12. Episode/scene where the acting stands out
Gosh, anything with Michael Emerson? His character frustrates me but he plays everything so well. There is so much subtlety to his acting that you notice especially on gifs or upon a rewatch.
13. Overall best-written episode
The Constant.

Hey can I just ask u smthg since ur the one of the only.... positive.... reader of the bible(ml) I know lol
I saw a post abt mocking ppl abt the love square saying how bad the season is and that the end will be very disappointing blah blah blah u know usual stuff
I just... this rlly set me off cause I've not been very excited with the start of the season cause of the bible being leaked and a lot of ppl who read it saying that the season was going to be bad. Everytime I go see some legal spoilers and teasers I see ppl making memes and analysis, stuff that dont have a fcking read below tag or even a warning at the start that it's a bible leak and everytime I think it's just some headcanon its fcking real and I am so disappointed.
Like I haven't watched multiplication and destruction and don't even think on doing it anytime soon cause that's how low my interest dropped from accidentally seeing SO MANY leaked images and text posts saying that ml season 5 will truly be trash
I dont wanna look into anymore of those spoilers it's rlly not safe even in this site so I just wanna ask if u think this season is as bad as ppl say it?
HOLD TF UP YOU WHO ALWAYS COMMENT ON MY PURPLE JOKES DID NOT WATCH MULTIPLICATION AND DESTRUCTION HONEY NOT ONLY THEY HAVE IKARIMOTH BUT ALSO THESE EPS WERE AMAZING I LOVED THEM SO MUCH SSKKSKSKSKSSKJSKSJSJSJSJKS THEY ACTUALLY BRING ME LIFE ADRIENETTE IS EVERYTHING LADYNOIR TOO IN THESE EPS ALSO LOL GABE IS SLUTTY JUST AS I THOUGHT 😭😭😭😭
But I understand you completely this show goes from 0 to 100 and the other way around ALL THE TIME. One episode is amazing and the next one is crap and so on. I hated the bible so much and I still hate so many decisions the writers made and I'm really not sure how things will end but I idk I thought quitting the show will help me but I'm too attached to it and my friends here and the truth is I can't just leave. I loved Destruction. I wanted to leave not because I was disappointed in the previous episodes - the season 4 finale was awesome and so was Evolution and Multiplication - but the spoilers got worse and worse. The more I read about them the more I hated them and nothing here was making me want to stay. The fandom sucks too but man there are some of my friends here whom I would sell my soul to the devil for so I can see them again every day. If you want to quit I fully understand and I don't judge you. I quit like three times now and every time I find excuse to come back. ML is addictive. If you need a break take it. We will get a lot of episodes now and when/if you come back you will have a lot of stuff to watch. Breaks help a lot. I felt so good when I didn't interact with the fandom for a while.
But just in case maybe you want to read the bible? And I will share the link for it and I can't say it will change your mind but I just think you should watch Multiplication and Destruction cuz I haven't met a person yet who was deeply disappointed by these episodes. I personally thought they were great. I wish every episode was this interesting and funny and I know this season will disappoint with some episodes too but that's how we roll. I will probably take more breaks again sometime when I decide. I understand and support you whatever you decide. You do what you want.
