Seasons of Love Challenge

If you want a mini-challenge that centers on romance, story, and gameplay, then this might be the perfect challenge for you! I introduce to you, the Seasons of Love Challenge! Pair up or create four pairs and be the matchmaker and the writer of their destiny. Get indulged with their story and help them find love by the end of the season!

For each season, we have different couple that may or may not fall in love before the season ends. I recommend that you edit the in-game season length, it can be up to 7, 12, 21 or 25 days per season, depending to you. This challenge can either be rotational or generational, it’s completely up to you. 

Feel free to remove and add some more activities to the following. These are not really rules, but more like guides or checklist that you can do so that you won’t run out of ideas to do for each round, and hopefully, help progress the relationship of the each pair. 

For those who prefer slow-burn romance (like me!) there’s a Slowburn Romance Edition by the end with some set of rules, be sure to check that out! This is supposedly a personal challenge for my game, but I thought it would be nice to share it with the community. SUMMER

trope:  enemies to lovers

backstory:

 - sim A is demoted from her work because of her hotheaded nature, and was assigned in this town where her grandparents/(or) sister live. She absolutely hates that, she wants to go up the ladder and build her name, but how can she do that now that she's demoted and stuck in this town?

 - sim B is carefree and enigmatic, living his life to the fullest. He used to get sick a lot when he was a child and now that he's a teen and rarely gets sick anymore, he wants to break free from those restrictions and do the things he hasn't done in his childhood. 

how things started:

  ~ Just few days before his birthday, sim B is feeling rebellious and wants to spend the best of his teenage days, even if that means breaking the curfew. So, he stayed out late with his friends to party and even went to the beach and lit some fireworks just before he go home. But, on his way home, the police patrol saw him! He knew he's so screwed, but what can he do? He plead with the cop, which happens to be Sim A, but she don't take any of his bullshit. Which eventually leads to some misunderstanding, fight and disliking each other. Guess the last of his teenage day is remarkable afterall, especially if you're being escorted back to your house in police car. 

  ~ If things aren't already worst as they are, he, unfortunately, bumped with the same cop again when she joined the surfing/scuba diving club. Oh well, guess they have to see each other a lot now. Will this be the perfect summer as he imagined, or will it be totally ruined because of that one hot-headed cop?

  ~ Sim A and Sim B where inseparable when they're kids. They spent afternoons playing video games, playing with their toys and painting together. But things changed when they entered High School. Only to find out that she's pregnant with someone who totally, totally dislikes children.   ~ Moreover, can Sim B raised this child alone? And will she find comfort again with the boy next door?

backstory:

  ~ Sim A and Sim B are highschool sweethearts. They dreamed of living together and building their family when they were teens. They thought it was forever. But things took a drastic change when Sim B suddenly disappeared when his father died, leaving him to live with his mother in France, leaving sim B behind. Sim B never expected this, she never expected to bear a child with Sim A as well. She can't seem to find him anymore, but still, she decided that she will raise this child. 

  ~ Years later, Sim B discovered that their child was sick and only had a few months left. Pile with grief, the kid is constantly looking for his/her father as well. Sim B doesn't want to let her child rest without seeing his/her father. So, again, she tried to look for him. And she found him! Turns out that he's now a rockstar in France, with a name and career. After knowing all of this, he quickly booked the ticket back to their town.

  ~ Will him coming back after years of disappearance mend their broken hearts and finally build the family they've dreamed? Or will they stay together just for the sake of their dying child?

He find this new town peaceful and gives him more inspiration to write. Perhaps, he can spend the winter holiday here, or will he decide to settle down in this quiet little town?

~ The death of her mother brings Sim B so much grief. Now that she’s just living on her own, she decides to open again their old bakery and let travelers rent her place. She’s a loner, more now that her mother, her only bestfriend died. Now she just spends her time baking and selling and knitting to ease her mind, will this new traveler who stays with her bring some color in her dull life?

You have been very hard on yourself, I understand the purpose of it but you are doing it all wrong. Self reflection and shadow work is completely different from bullying yourself. You're going through an awakening right now, the universe is calling you out, you guys have a higher purpose in this world. Some of you guys have secret plans that you have been working on and some dreams that you are about to entertain that know one knows. I know you are very protective of your ideas and desires, but being ruled by saturn isn't easy, always working extra hard because the whole thing might fall apart if you don't focus & put your all in oryou'll have to start over. Not to mention having envious people around you that silently sabotage all your projects. Add a mind that is your biggest enemy and you have the recipe for an extremely exhausted human. When will you address that and put an end to it? All those voices in your head, whether it's you valuing your worth based on your productivity or the voices of people who can't see your vision. The best way to stop the noise is by first acknowledging it's there, then you have to find out why you allow those thoughts in, Ask yourself do you think they're right, ask yourself again if you or your talents and skills fit into that low bar that everyone else is setting for you, when did these other people whose drive and skill could never match up to yours have the power to convince you that you can't succeed at all your goals? It's literally judgement time, you are being pushed to cut that behavior out, allowing negativity to cloud your mind and breed self doubt and self sabotage. It's time to become YOU. Reflection, renewal and reckoning is your energy. That plan that you've been working for the past couple of months or years even is finally coming in to play, there's a major turn around coming. You've been tending to your garden well and you'll be harvesting the fruits of your labor very soon.

Overall, success is coming in whatever field that has been your focus for a while now. If you been waiting on an answer this is it, if you are actually about to start something now is a good time. You set that plan up so that you can properly show up for yourself and have time to handle your other responsibilities. I understand that people need your help and you're the jack of all trades but it can be done whenever you are free, you don't drop everything to go help someone with something they can wait to do or pay someone to do. All humans were born with their own physical capabilities no need to fuck yourself up to show for them. Have strength and enforce your boundaries and do not waver, they can wait, finish your stuff first.

You are safe to move forward with your plans, invest your time, skills and money. You'll have a return on investment WHEN it is successful ( take the word 'if' and change it to 'when'...change 'I think' to 'I know'). Be excited, you escape and find solace in your work and creative endeavors, you complicate that flow by being hard on yourself. You are supported too, remember that. You'll be noticing that all of a sudden you'll have more money in your hands to spend on yourself and invest into you projects. The universe and your spirit guides are handing you support and opportunities, take them and don't hesitate. It's hard to imagine Light doing a thorough check of criminals being guilty, considering the manga. Volume 3, 6 pages into the first chapter.

"Until now, every time a criminal was reported in the news, | eliminated them that day, or the next day at the latest."

If he's usually killing people off the day they're reported, then all he'd really know is there was enough pointing in their direction to lead to an arrest. Doesn't necessarily mean that an investigation wouldn't have eventually shown innocence. Considering discovery is a process that can take years, there's no way to get an accurate reading on someone's guilt in a day or two.

The other issue is that, despite being in Light's head 80% of the time, this is the first time we're hearing that he actually

does any research at all.

And I do think you make a good argument.

I feel like between the panel I showed and this one, we can assume his research amounts to 'reading the basics of the case file' rather than anything in-depth. (And that only when he has the time for it, he obviously does not do background checks on the people he kills via bag of chips TV.)

(The thing I'd nitpick is that criminals would often only get reported a long while into the investigation - in Japan, being ever accused of a crime is life-ruining even if you are proven fully innocent at the end of the proceedings. This also plays into what I mentioned in the other ask: people only get arrested when the investigators think there is a totally certain case against them. )

But that said, yeah, I think you're right - this timeframe being stated for the rhythm of Kira killings drastically lowers the chance of Light actually being able to do more than a cursory glance that rules out cases like 'well, this was a car accident on a slippery frozen road and not an intentional murder'.

I think this is somewhere in between 'Light absolutely killed a lot of innocent people' and 'Death Note as a story is wholly uninterested in the legal drama of false conviction and the narrative itself just kind of assumes all reported criminals are guilty', depending on which angle you want to center in your analysis.

I relate so much to Gloria, more than i wish i did sometimes, as a barista currently trying to make it as an artist and dreaming of going to paris hahaha. I love her.

all of this to say that i am so thankful for big city greens and the characters, it is so real and so funny and such a comfort to me. when BCG came out i had just started art school and it was a huge inspiration and continues to be today as i have grown and learned. my dream was and still is to make something as heartfelt and genuine as BCG one day. I’ve come close to giving up so many times and this year especially has been really difficult in a lot of ways, but rewatching your show has reminded me of what i set out to do in the first place. it has helped me find that motivation again.

Oh man, this made my day! Thanks for sharing. It makes me really happy to hear that BCG (and Gloria) is so special to you. I love that you watch it with your friend over the phone. That's adorable??? And it's surreal to hear that BCG is such an inspiration to you because I remember being in art school and wondering the same questions. "Will I ever be able to make something as cool/inspiring/original as ______??"

As cool as it is to be inspired by stuff you like, it can easily become discouraging (at least this is my experience.) Think of all of the artwork/songs/films we've missed out on because artists have talked themselves out of completing their project. Tragic!

It's important to remember that you'll never make anything like BCG (or anything you're inspired by) and that's a good thing! Whatever you create, will go through your individual "filter." It really will be unique because there's no one like you. No one has your exact experiences, perspectives, and outlook on life. Just keep making stuff that feels personal and honest to you and you're bound to make something interesting and unique.

And to answer your question (thank you for finally following the RULES)... Cricket's favorite song would probably be ever-changing depending on his current mood. But I like to think that Gene Autry's "Don't Fence Me In" is quietly playing on loop in the back of Cricket's brain. I could see Tilly loving Mama Cass's "Make Your Own Kind of Music."

“ I mean.. How dumb does a person have to be?” the rant has been mostly ignored for the duration of your shift. It’s a shift that’s dragging by real slow. Agonizing almost. Because if you have to hear one more word of Kiara Carrera’s incessant bitching about a situation you know damn well she probably either brought down upon herself or inserted herself into in the first place, you’re going to tear your hair out strand for strand. 

She seems to zone back in from her woe is me of the day to notice you’re not even partially paying attention to her, you’re staring out the window as you wipe down a sticky tabletop at one of the empty booths instead. “Did you hear anything I said? So I’m not wrong.. Right?”

And cue you, finally having enough.

“You’re an idiot.”

Kiara blinks, stunned at what you’ve just blurted out. But you’re not done yet, not by any means. The fire has been lit, now you’re going to see it through. Maybe I’m done ripping her a new one, you think to yourself for a split second, she’ll finally realize that just beause I’m forced to work with her at this restaurant that does not make us friends.

“That was rude.”

“What? It’s true! Look.. I’ve listened to you whine and complain all summer. Whenever I try to tell you that what you’re doing is dumb and it’s only gonna go badly, you ignore me. So maybe I’m done playing nice with you.” you rub your forehead and drag a forearm across to wipe sweat away from your brow. “You started off all about John B. What happened there, Kie?”

“It didn’t feel right when he kissed me.”

“Yeah, well.. What’d you expect him to do when you were ignoring my advice and flirting with him for a whole month, hm? Did you think he’d just ignore your obvious cues? He’s a guy, Kie. Guys are wired differently.” you laugh and shake your head. “And then you go and you hook up with Pope.. And for what reason, huh? So you can immediately realize that you don’t want that kind of relationship with him and ghost the guy?”

“Are you done?”

“Almost. Shut up and listen to me, just this once, for the love of fuck.” you cut her off before she can start whining about her current situation with JJ Maybank.

Because you can’t take another fucking second. 

This may or may not have everything to do with your long-spanning crush on the guy in question. A crush you swore you’d take to your grave when you were about 10 and you went home crying because JJ introduced you to his friend John B as “my best friend. She’s pretty cool for a girl.” 

It might also have everything to do with lately, you’ve been sensing awkwardness between you and JJ. And the further apart you drift, the closer he seems to get to Kiara. And you can see the disaster written all over this potential romance from a mile away.

“You’re being a real bitch lately, ___. Did I do something?”

You throw up your hands because this is the exact moment that it sinks in for you.. She’s not listening. And no matter what you try to tell her to do in an attempt to negate any potential for disaster when she ignores your advice and does whatever she’s got it in her head to do, it’s not gonna fix the fact that you’re going to be stuck sitting around.. Watching the boy you love with a girl you know will only hurt him.

“Know what? Nevermind. Do whatever you wanna do, Kiara. Tell him you think you’re in love with him. Tell him you’re upset at the things he said to you a few nights ago. But for the love of fuck, stop telling me about all this, okay?”

Kiara’s gazing at you intently. Confused. Because normally, you don’t explode when she’s venting about whatever she’s going through. Normally, you listen and you’re a lot more.. Gentle in your phrasing. But she mentioned the tension between her and JJ earlier this week and it’s as if something inside you snapped. This is the angriest she’s ever seen you.

“I’m going for a smoke break. Don’t.” you speak up when she starts to grab her raincoat to follow you out, “Don’t fucking tag along.”

The door leading out to the back of the restaurant closes firm behind you and you sink down to lean back against it. 

You can feel your phone buzz in your pocket so you take it out and you unlock the screen.

It’s a message from JJ.

“It only took you two whole weeks.” you mumble in sarcasm as you take a long drag of the cigarette between your lips. As your eyes dance over the text he sent, you can feel your stomach twist in knots.

← Sorry I haven’t been around much. I’ve uh… it’s been busy.

And it feels wrong, you know there’s a lot going on that he’s not telling you. And damn it, even though you know it shouldn’t, it hurts to feel left out. 

You’re beyond tempted to leave him on read for two weeks like he’s done with you, but you calm down. You think about it for a few seconds and come to the conclusion that doing that will be childish. And it’s not like he owes you his time or anything, he’s just a friend.

The second you remind yourself this, you frown.

But you finally answer the text.

→ No big deal. I’ve been busy too. What’s up?

Right away, the three dots pop up.

Then they disappear.

Then they pop up again and by about the fourth cycle of this, you’re annoyed and you have to go back into work anyway, so you stub out the cigarette you were almost finished with and you make your way back inside the Wreck.

You don’t even spare Kiara a second glance through the rest of your shift. And the one or two times she tries to talk to you,  you answer whatever she’s asked and you walk away before she can say anything else.

By the time you’re clocking out, you’ve come to two conclusions. One) you either need to move on and get over your stupid leftover crush already or tell JJ Maybank how you really feel at last and two) there is a third option. Make new friends. Put some distance between yourself and the situation. Because being his next door neighbor and spending all the time you used to spend with him before this summer, that hasn’t helped you even attempt to start getting over your dumb crush.

So, you’ve got a game plan now.

You check your cell phone as you’re walking back to your house from the restaurant on a dimly lit path. There’s no word from JJ, so whatever he’d been about to type earlier couldn’t have been that important and this is when you really decide for sure that you’re going to do what you decided to earlier in the day.

You strip down and turn on the shower, letting the bathroom steam up. You find your favorite playlist on Spotify and you turn it up loud enough to drive out the tomb-like silence in your little house. Your mom’s out god knows where, she might come home tonight, she might not come home til the middle of next week. But it’s not like it matters.

You’re used to it by now.

,, And I’m about to get used to only my own company.” you think to yourself with determination as you step beneath the shower and let the hot water rain down on your body…

JJ’s staring at his cell phone, he hasn’t heard a single thing anyone has said. John B clears his throat to get his attention. JJ looks up, a brow raised. “What, man?”

“Did you hear anything I just said, man? Pope might have a lead.”

“Yeah, yeah.. I heard you.”

“You’ve been distracted all day, man. You caught a damn tree when we were fishing earlier. C’mon, out with it.”

“It’s nothing. It’s dumb.” JJ knows he can’t actually talk about what’s bothering him because Kiara is around and honestly, he doesn’t want to hurt her feelings. Because he knows that what he wants to ask John B and Pope about the situation he’s finding himself in lately will definitely do that.

Because it involves the way she poured out her soul to him a few nights ago. And how badly he handled that happening. It also involves you and the way it feels like you’re a million miles away lately, despite living not even 10 feet away from him in the house next door.

Things are changing and JJ’s having a hard time with this.

“I have to go. If I don’t get home now, my parents are probably sending the army after me. If you guys need me, text, please?” Kiara stands and she rushes out of the Chateau abruptly. The second the screen door is banging shut behind her, JJ takes a deep breath.

“She told me she thinks she loves me. And the whole time she’s tellin me all this, all I could think about was ___. Felt like I was betraying her, man.”

Pope and John B share a look.

Then John B starts snickering. “Are you finally telling me what I already knew, dude?”

“Huh?”

“I always thought you had a thing for ___.” Pope admits, shrugging as if it’s nothing.

“Fuck you both.” JJ exhales smoke into the air. “Kie is expecting me to say something but I know it’s gonna hurt her man and I just… I can’t. Because on the one hand, I’m kind of into her.. But then there’s ___.”

“Yeah, that’s a situation I am glad I am not in the middle of.” John B rubs a hand over his face. Pope’s rolling a joint to pass around and he’s mulling it over. “Which one can you see yourself with, man?”

“Easy.. ___. I know I’m always sayin she’s my friend but I’ve just always kinda thought it’d be me and her versus the world one day, dude.” JJ motions for the joint and he takes a long hit.

“Okay, so the easiest thing to do is tell Kiara you’re not into her.”

“But I am, dude. And I… sometimes I catch myself wondering.. Would it.. Like, would that work?”

John B and Pope share a look, both of them having gone through their own little situation with their best friend Kiara in the past, neither situation working out well for either party.

“Just text her, dude. See what she’s up to tonight. Tell her we miss her when you do, man.”

You’re about halfway through your millionth rewatch of Dazed and Confused when you see your phone screen light up. And you grumble but you pause the movie and reach out, grabbing and dropping your cell phone onto your bedroom floor.

The reason you drop it is shock, basically.

Because the first thing you see once you unlock the screen is a notification from Instagram.

Its.topthornton.dude started following you.

You’re on your knees in the middle of your bed with one hand caught up in the thick mess you call your hair and you’ve got a brow raised at the phone. “The fuck? Why though? Why is Topper Thornton following me?”

And your curiosity prompts you to open Instagram. Where you’re greeted to a wall full of notifications. Apparently, Topper’s taken it upon himself to go waaaay back on your profile and like all your older posts.

You scroll through his page and it’s kind of dismissive at first. It’s just your average himbo Kook doing rich boy shit.

But then you see this one picture of him sitting on the beach as he stares out at the water. And it’s taken at a good angle, he looks good. There’s no harm in liking the photo.

So, you turn the little heart below the photo red. And you decide on a whim to accept his follow and five seconds later, you’ve talked yourself into following him back.

You shove the whole thing out of your head because you’ve ruled it down to having mutual friends and you, popping up in the guy’s feed or suggested profiles to follow. You don’t think anything will come of it. So by the time you’re turning off your tv and settling into bed for the night, it’s forgotten about entirely.

Your alarm is going off and it’s loud. Annoying. When you reach out to silence it, you knock the phone onto the floor and manage to spill the little bit of Dr. Pepper left in your bottle all over the nightstand and your bedroom floor.

You scoop up the phone and sit up in your bed, unlocking the screen as you yawn.

You roll your eyes and laugh. “It’s too early for your shit, Maybank.” you grumble as you slip out of your bed and make your way down the hall, into your kitchen. You start up the coffee pot and you’re digging around in cabinets and cupboards in the hopes of finding something, anything that’ll pass as breakfast, when you hear your phone start to ring.

You slip off the counter and grab up the phone expecting it to be your mom, hungover and in need of a lift home, or JJ, apparently hellbent on finishing the conversation, but you’re surprised when the number shown on the screen is the number belonging to Topper Thornton.

“County morgue, you kill ‘em, we chill ‘em.” you rattle off your greeting and on the other end of the line, Topper laughs. “Hey.”

You swear under your breath when the eggs you’re about to attempt frying start to pop in the skillet. “Ouch, shit. This is why I hate cooking.” you run some ice water over your wrist and Topper speaks up on the other end of the line. “You okay over there?”

“I mean, my day’s starting off awesome.” you laugh. “How’d you.. How’d you get my number?”

“It’s public. On your instagram profile?”

“Really? No shit? I thought I changed that a few weeks ago.” you shrug and you go to Instagram to check, confirming that what Topper says is true. And then you’re left with an even bigger question.

What is his end goal? What is he hoping to accomplish.. Why is he calling you in the first place?

Because you might as well live in two different worlds as opposed to two different sides of the island, the huge difference between Figure 8 and The Cut being as massive as it is.

i dont think key fivers were afraid of sansa of course fandom toxicity ramped up as the season went on and post show but its probably because the show whitewashed a lot of characters and their conflict like tyrion both because they were favourite character by the showrunners and the show wanted generic conflict instead of complexity and many characters and arcs got cut because of it, this turned fandom into thinking key 5 didnt mean "characters who affect the story good or bad depending on point of view" but turned into "the key 5 are heroes that'll save the day against the others and have a happy ending" by season 5/6

sansa was mostly ignored or victim blamed even by book fans before the show exept by a few so i dont know what they really thought her story was gonna be by the end but the show made it worse by not giving her enough nuance even in the early seasons and while diverging her arc pretty badly, it had her in a position of leadership, this pushed the idea in BROAD strokes that might be explained better in the books that her character did matter so i guess it did ruffle some feathers of theorists that didnt think about her all these years and a lot of there theories were proven wrong in the end

I'm telling you it's to exclude Sansa. The whole point is to 'prove' that she's not a main character and won't be involved in the final war(s) of the books. I've seen it with my own eyes.

GRRM himself said he was mostly pulling shit out of his ass with that outline and most people moved on from it once the novelty wore off but a contingent of antis saw it as all the evidence they need that Sansa won't

help free Winterfell from the Boltons

play a part in the fight against the Others

play a part in the war between Aegon vs Daenerys

have a romance with Jon (I don't ship Jonsa but you can't deny that a big part of Key Fiver is the idea that Sansa isn't important enough for a romance with Jon unlike his aunt and other sister

rule the North as Lady of Winterfell or Queen

And I have to disagree, while many people ignored all the signs pointing to Sansa becoming a big player in the game of thrones, they didn't ignore Sansa as a character at all.

I also get where you're coming from but the idea that Jon, Dany and Tyrion (with help from Bran and maaaaaaaaybe Arya - the idea that she'd become some sort of Batman in the Riverlands with her army of wolves was more popular than the idea she'd play a role in fighting the Others which is why D&D chose her specifically to deliver the killing blow) was there before we got the outline. Key Fivers just absorbed it into their DIY lore.

hihi i hope you don't mind me asking but as a writer myself, i'm curious about how your writing process goes :o it's very evident you do a ton of research for your writing and it got me curious about how you go about research and writing as a whole! thank you for your time and have a wonderful day <3

Hi!! I don't mind at all <3 Thank you for sending this ask, because if there's something I love more than writing, then it's talking about the craft of writing! I'll just break down my general process on how I approach writing below <3 Keep in mind that this is both (1) general advice, and (2) specific to how I approach pieces, so it might not work for everyone! In general, I have four major steps: planning, outlining, writing, and then revising/editing!

Planning

The first thing that really happens is that I'll come up with an idea. For fanfic, this usually means I'll get an idea for a scenario I want to explore, or I'll really want to write about a character, and then I'll come up with several ideas that I think would be fun for them! In this stage, I might write a few notes about the premise, just a few sentences about the overall plot/arc I'm looking at. Additionally, I might come up with some general themes/motifs I want to include, but go more in-depth with them in the outlining stage. I'm a bit strange in the sense I tend to plan stories based on general concepts/themes before I delve into the nitty-gritty of characters and plot details (though this process is a bit reversed when I'm writing fanfiction).

I might also do some general research in regards to the premise: for example, I might look over the wiki to refresh my memories on character beats or miscellaneous trivia, or I'll reread certain pages of the manga/rewatch scenes of the anime/replay parts of the game. If I'm writing about a different culture, then I'll look up aspects of the culture that are relevant to my fic (and as with any research, you want to check that you're using reputable sites for accurate information!) Asking friends for their advice/expertise can also be helpful, especially if they're knowledgeable in areas I'm not.

2. Outlining

After I have an idea, I tend to make a really rough outline for how I want the story to go. I don't like planning every minuscule detail, so I leave my outline vague enough that I can be flexible with what I write. I might just draft the overarching plot beats that I want to hit, but then I might change/rearrange scenes depending on what happens as I actually write. I like having an idea of what might happen, but also I don't want my plot to be so rigid I don't have any freedom to play with it, especially because what I write might end up differently from what I planned to happen!

Additionally, I also tend to map out not just what's happening on the page, but also the themes, character arcs and emotional beats. It's not as daunting as it sounds; these things are generally entwined together, as they influence each other! I'm always thinking of them in conjunction with every other piece of the story.

If that's a bit difficult, you can also think about a general mapping technique: tracking the inner, emotional journey and the outer, physical journey, and how these events influence each other or intersect. What shows up on the page, and what's happening beneath it, that might not be as obvious?

In chronologically disjointed pieces, I tend to have an idea of what the chronological timeline looks like before I break it up and rearrange the scenes. I don't believe there are real "rules" when it comes to writing (things like "don't use adverbs" or "first person should only ever be past tense"); any rule can be broken, but you do need to understand the rules before you know how/when to break them in your piece.

3. Writing

Here's the hardest part of the process: actually writing! I have several different ways I approach writing. Sometimes I'll just follow my outline, in order of the events and scenes I have planned. Other times, I might write "out of order" where I tackle a section that I'm particularly interested in, rather than going by order of events (though this usually means I have to edit and revise a lot because I might write the aftermath of a emotional scene before I actually know the specifics of what happens in the scene).

I think that I sometimes approach writing as something I "have to do." I will make myself write, even if I don't feel particularly motivated or inspired, because I want to build a habit of writing even without that passion fueling me. And besides, writing even a few sentences is better than writing nothing, so I'll congratulate myself if I had one paragraph to my wip. Sometimes, this does help me get into the flow of writing!

I also don't tend to approach first drafts like they need to be perfect. I'm fine if they're sloppy or messy, and I might, say, add a [add transition here] or [expand on his inner thoughts] if I'm on a roll and I don't want to slow down to write that particular bit. It's important to keep the momentum going!

I also keep several wips on hands at all times, and I have a folder in my google drive specifically for my wips. Though I do tend to focus only one to three projects at a time, this helps me in the sense that if I feel tired of one wip, then I refresh my creative batteries by working on a different one. This helps keeps my interest up!

4. Revising/Editing

I know some people skip this step, but to me, it's important that I don't just toss out a fic before I'm completely satisfied with it. Editing is when you go through to proofread and look at surface level things like grammar and spelling, but revising is the real struggle: it's where you look at the piece as a whole. Is it cohesive? Do the scenes make sense in the order they're placed in? How is the pace? Is the characterization consistent?

You can't be afraid to rearrange scenes, to cut sections, to add new ones, or to transform existing scenes. If I need to, sometimes I take a break before I go back to a piece. Maybe I've been looking at it for too long, and in the heat of the moment, I might miss certain things. I might also ask a friend for their feedback and advice on a piece. I want to write things that I'm proud of, that other people will enjoy, so I don't want to half-ass any step of the process. I try to look at most things at least two or three times before I post them, but if they're shorter pieces/don't need thorough revision, I'll only look at it once before I post.

I saw your reblog+tags and I'm curious: how does one play Minecraft with a Jewish twist? :0

Basically, I'm trying to play in a way that corresponds to Halakha (Jewish law), which for now mainly involves trying to simulate Shekhita (Kosher slaughter). I did a lot of research on the requirements for the type of blade (called Khalaf or Sakin Hashekhita depending on who you ask) as well as how it must be used and concluded that only a diamond or netherite sword with sharpness V was suitable for slaughtering a cow (as they deal 10 and 11 damage respectively and a cow has 10 health and it Must be a one hit kill to be kosher, additionally it cannot be a critical hit as that might count as excessive force which is forbidden).

There is so much fun to be had around Kashrut (the dietary laws) in Minecraft. Did you know you're not allowed to eat fruit from a tree until it is three years old? Thus, I can only eat apples from oaks that have existed for 36 lunar cycles (3*12 months).

I've tried playing with "must keep Shabbat" but honestly it's very annoying to once every 7th ingame day just not be able to do basically anything. Pretty much everything that can be done in Minecraft is prohibited on Shabbat, including Mining and Crafting. You can maybe go explore, but you can't take anything with you or pick up anything, or make plans for what to do after Shabbat with what you find, and you can only go by foot, which I think means you're not breaking the prohibition travel, but I'm not sure, I need to look into it. It's possible that enchanting would be allowed if you reaaally stretch the concept and try to define it as studying, which is encouraged on Shabbat. Anyway I'm currently ignoring the Shabbat part because it's annoying to keep track and there's nothing you can really do. (Not to mention if you want to properly observe Shabbat you do so with meals which in Minecraft means you need to fast all week to be hungry enough to eat several meals.)

Once I get a bit more set up I really hope to create some redstone thing at spawn that will count the days for me so I can incorporate holidays. Maybe. It would be fun to build a Sukka (hut) for Sukkot (holiday when you build and live in a hut for a week) in Minecraft, but I might end up just going by the real world calendar to make sure I have time to really celebrate ingame (especially since lunar cycles are 8 days in Minecraft which means I'll have barely any time between holidays, Sukkot alone would take up a whole month).

It's basically a fun roleplay twist and as a bonus I get to research and learn about different Mitzvot (commandments) and Minhagim (traditions) before I'm able to meet a rabbi and incorporate them into my own real life. I love learning about Halakha and Judaism and I love any excuse to ask all the silly questions about it. Like earlier today a friend and I were arguing about whether a gun that shoots blades could be used for kosher slaughter! Judaism is so great and appealing to my autism like it has probably the world's largest collection of commentary upon commentary about how to interpret the rules and what does it all mean and I could spend the rest of my life learning about it and while there are disagreements there's bound to be some answer to any question I have about an ambiguity of a rule and oh my autistic little heart.

But there's some stuff I don't feel comfortable doing yet, even in game, because they feel too important and exclusive to real Jews, such as Tzitzit (knotted strings that are attached to certain articles of clothing) on my Minecraft skin, though I drew on a kipa (traditionally a round flat little hat worn by men) because it is only a Minhag (tradition) and not a Mitzva (commandment) and I wear one in real life. I've been considering making a Mezuza (little container put on doorposts containing an important prayer and marked with the letter ש, it is a Minhag to kiss it when you pass it) by writing the Shema (the aforementioned prayer) in a book and putting the book in a barrel next to the door and then putting a button on the barrel and pressing it to kiss it and open the door, but it might also fall into this category and might have to wait until I'm further in my conversion.

Anyway thanks for listening to me infodump about Judaism, it will happen again. Also there are 613 Mitzvot in the Torah and countless more in rabbinical texts, just so you don't think I'm even scratching the surface here. This is a brief summary of scratching the surface. In Minecraft.

A/N: Hi everyone this is my first written gvf fic and well uhm it's probably a little rough so if there are any ways I can improve my writing or the detail just let me know! Also let me know If you guys would like to see any other kinds of gvf fics or any specific ideas you want me to write off of! That's All. I hope You guys enjoy the story.

Summary:You grew up as a homeschooled student in Vassar Michigan. Danny and you met at a music and film summer camp and hit it off as friends. Your parents kept in touch and Danny and you hung out on occasion. One day Danny decided to text you and invite you to a party at his place to hang out. Upon arriving at the party you couldn’t find Danny but you did meet one of his close friends in his library alone, trying to get away from the party itself, much like you.

Slowly but surely - like I was watching every second on the clock - the boring week passed and Friday finally arrived. 

I started getting ready, dressing nicer than usual but still pretty casual, just a nice black shirt and some jeans. And then I started walking over. It was only a few miles so it should be a nice casual walk.. Knowing at least one party rule I knew not to show up early or exactly on time, so I left my place around 8:45 P.M. meaning I got there at 9:15. Just in time, considering the decent amount of cars in the driveway. Walking around the groups of people and cars I made my way inside of the crowded house. 

I truly didn’t like the amount of people already. There was a lot of loud talking, and the music playing over the speakers seemed to be Have You Ever Seen The Rain By Creedence Clearwater Revival. At least the music was good. With that I decided to make my way through to the kitchen, found A nice cabernet, grabbed a wine glass, and poured myself some of the rich red liquid. Not knowing what to do next I tried to find Danny, I kept searching the rooms for a familiar face at the least but, nothing. I finally gave up and made my way down to Danny's basement, where his library was. Stepping down the stairs I could feel the room warm up and an orangish radiance growing, there was a fire going. 

Stepping off the final step and fully entering the room, a man entered my vision. He was leaned up against the wall with a beer in his hand while watching the fire. I took in every detail while I could. He was elegant, his hair slightly untamed yet falling nicely on his shoulders, he stood around 5’7, and he was adorned it beautiful jewelry, rings bracelets, and his necklaces, one necklace stood out, the one he was fiddling with in his free hand, it was graced with many charms or coins…either way it was gorgeous, he was gorgeous. And then he turned and looked at me.

I froze. I didn’t know what to do or say, I was scared I was caught staring. So I just let the words fall out of my mouth. “Oh uhm, sorry to interrupt your peace.” 

He just giggles, it was cute. I could feel my cheeks warm and my smile growing slowly. 

“So I uh.. I take your not a party person are you” I said, a little quieter than my last statement. 

“It depends on the people really, smaller get togethers are my thing. I didn’t think Danny and Sam would put together such a big party.” He said while motioning his hands outward, signaling for us to listen to all the moving and chatter above us. “I’d much rather stay down here until it dies down, but you can stay, you're not some rambunctious 20 year old like all the others upstairs.” I giggled at his comment.

 “Haha thanks, I try to keep myself together a bit more when I’m in big crowds..” There was a small silence and then you spoke again. “So you know Danny Huh?”, “Yeah I’ve known him for a while, he’s my little brother Sam's best friend. We’re in a band together too, so Danny, well he’s really grown to be more of like a brother to me.” 

“I'm Jake.” He said, extending his hand out for a handshake. Taking his hand in yours “Y/n” I said, taking note of his calloused grip, and how he was gentle with the handshake not overpowering.

“Also you mentioned you're in a band? That's really cool.” I said to Jake, both of us making our way over to the couch in front of the fire. “Thanks. We’ve been playing together for a few years now.” 

“You know you look like the guitar type.” I said, eliciting a slight giggle “That statement would be correct, you caught me” He said, lifting his hands in the air. 

“Ok wait so how long have you been playing guitar for?”

“Since I was three years old!” He said, smiling proudly. “I was very fortunate to have a musician for a father who was always excited to show me the ropes. He wanted me to grow up with a respect for the instrument so we spent a lot of time on the basic things before I was allowed to switch over to an electric.” He finished. 

“Man you’ve really got your life together, my lifes a bit messy, but I’ve gotta finish college out strong…” There's a silence again but the room doesn’t feel awkward like it normally would with a stranger, the room feels comfortable and warm, like I’ve known the guy for a while even though I met him like less than an hour ago. 

“Do you write at all?” I questioned. “Not really, I’ve always been bad with lyrics. Although my twin, Josh, he’s the wordsmith of the band. If you’re looking for meaning in our songs, it's his writing. I can’t come up with anything good except some song concepts and the occasional title or two.” Jake said. “ I mean if it’s a good concept or title and you get the depth of the song across to the listener that’s an achievement. I’m in college for film and screenwriting so I understand the struggle a little bit.”

“You know Josh wanted to pursue film, that's really interesting to meet someone else who enjoys the film and screenwriting world as well. Speaking of Josh although he and I are twins I always notice how different we are.. When he writes a song or a lyric I have to step outside of myself to understand it and when I do, it feels like magic, with Josh he already feels the magic of the lyrics when he’s writing.” Jake said, his voice calming down to a normal tone. 

“I know what you mean, every human, well we’re all so different, we all have different philosophies, different brains, none of us are alike, but we can all say we’ve felt the feeling of ascension that music brings once we take the time to understand it. Wow, I did not think I would have that much to say.” I finish with slight nervousness. 

He chuckles “ It’s all ok. I’ve got a lot to say about music too, I mean it’s like a different language that everyone knows, we just don’t talk about it so openly. Music is… ineffable.” 

“I like you Jake, you're really interesting, you’re a really down to earth and open minded person. It’s hard to find people like you.” I said, then finishing my glass of wine. “Oh well uh thank you! That's really nice to hear. Would you like to maybe go outside?” He said standing up offering me his hand.

Taking his hand, I then respond with “Of course”. Maneuvering our way through the crowd of people Jake and I finally make it outside away from the crowd.

Jake sits down on the grass, legs out and leaning back. I plop down next to Jake in the grass and then begin to glance upward at the sky taking in a deep breath,“I’ve always loved summer nights, they’re so peaceful.”. “Yeah, I think the quiet and the light … they have a certain feeling to them. Even the wind has a different sound that you can only hear on a summer night.” Jake said.

 Looking up at the sky he says “ I can see the Big Dipper. Do you see it?”. “Which one?” Scooting closer to me and taking my hand in his he guides my finger towards the Big Dipper. “That’s the one right there.” He chuckles softly. “I’m not sure if you believe in astrology or not but I like to call it the ‘Wishers Star’. It represents leaving everything behind and just being.. Free. Whatever free means to you. When you see it you’re supposed to make a wish” He finishes.

Looking at him and feeling a little confident I say “‘Wishers Star’ hmm I like that name. I guess the ‘Wishers Star’ really is lucky, I feel so free and on top of the world already…or maybe it's the person I'm around making me feel this way.” I finished looking away slightly surprised at my own confidence. 

“Can I ask you a question?” Jake said out of the blue. “Sure, shoot.” I said smiling and looking back over to him intently. 

For once Jake showed some hesitance. Fiddling with one of his rings he began “Do you.. Would you maybe…” breathing in and regaining his once lost confidence Jake finally said “Would you like to go out to lunch with me tomorrow? As a date.” 

My eyes widened, I was speechless. Wow. There was a mutual connection there. I finally stuttered out “I.. I-I would, I would love to Jake!” Jake took a sigh in relief “That would’ve been awkward if you had said no.” I chuckled “How could I say no to you, I mean I did make a wish on that star you know.”

“Oh you did, hmm?” Jake nagged slightly. “Yeah… but that wish hasn’t come true just yet..”, “Was this your wish?” Jake said. He took my chin in between his pointer finger and thumb tilting my face towards him, he looked me deeply in the eyes and began leaning closer and closer until his lips were just grazing over mine. Eager, I closed the space between us. The kiss was powerful, it was filled with pure and radiant emotions, it felt ethereal. 

I was the first to pull away.. due to loss of breath. Jake looking down at my lips again and smiling moved in for a quick peck.

 “How’d you know?” I asked him “How’d I know what?” he questioned in a playful tone. “My wish.”, “Well I was just fulfilling my wish and it just so happened to be yours to my love.” I smiled at the loving nickname. “Jakey, you’re… amazing.” “I'm Jakey now huh? I like it.”, in a mocking tone I replied “I’m your love now, huh?” We both began to laugh.

“Alright it’s getting late, want me to drive you home?” Jake asked me. “That’d be nice, considering I walked over.” He chuckled. “How far was the walk?” Jake asked, walking over to his car and opening the door for me. “Just a few miles. Here, hand me your phone.” Handing me his phone I first put my number in then I opened maps and put in my address. He got in on the drivers side and waited for me to finish up with his phone before setting it down in the cup holder. “Ok so now you’ve got my number stored, and my address”. “Ok good.” Jake responded. He then started to pull out of the driveway and reached for the radio turning it up Sunshine of Your Love By Cream playing. Jake began singing along with the music, looking at me when singing the lyrics “I’ve been waiting for so long”, “To be where I’m going”, “In the sunshine of your love”. 

The drive came to a much unwanted end as Jake pulled into my driveway. He made sure to get out and even opened the door for me, again. “Such a gentleman,” I said. He reached out to grab my hand. “What can I say? My mom taught me right.”, “She did an amazing job” I said looking at him lovingly. He began to walk me to my door and paused at my doorstep. I Unlocked my door and looked up at him once more, taking in the moment. Jake spoke “Tomorrow, lunch date, you and me. I’ll pick you up at 12:30, dress for sand…” He finished smiling. I nodded, smiling and then taking him in a tight loving hug. Pulling away he looked into my eyes, much like he did earlier. He leaned in slowly and placed a sweet kiss upon my lips. “Goodnight Y/n.” “Goodnight Jake.” I said, then entering my house. He turned away from my house, walked to his car and drove away.

 “Until tomorrow Jakey” I mumbled to myself smiling..

1) How do you keep getting ideas for your ship/fandom?

Daydreaming. Writing fanfic is secondary to that. It was only in the past couple of years that it occurred to me that I could write some of it down and see what happens.

2) Which authors inspire you in your fandom, and why are they so freakishly good?

@searidings is my absolute favorite, the way she unravels the characters' emotions and angst is absolutely superb.

3) Aside from the characters of your main ship, who are the characters you love to write?

Ohhh I really love this question:

Cat in Inauthentic, as well as this ficlet and this one. I love her sense of humor.

Lillian in Darkness in All Things. For the same reason as Cat, I just love her snark.

Zor-El in Even Though You're Kryptonian. He kind of surprised me when I started writing him, and to this day I don't know if some of his lines are driven by genuine confusion or if he's just trolling.

4) Are there pairings or tropes you know for sure you'd never write about? Which ones?

I'm a never-say-never kind of person. There's a lot that I don't think I would ever write, but I've been surprised on where stories have taken me before, and may be surprised again.

5) What is your writing process and why is it cursed?

"Process" might be an overstatement...

I have a "scribbles" doc where I keep my ideas. I cull ideas often (though ideas often make their way back anyway). As I write more into the doc, a certain idea may get too big for it, so I spin it out into its own doc.

From there, I kind of go back and forward between outlining and writing. I write completely out of order. Which is why, so often, my multichaps are almost fully drafted by the time I publish chapter 1. I've usually already made it to the resolution point of the plot (meaning, no one's in danger anymore, the bad guy is gone, etc), though the final chapter often doesn't get written until later.

6) What is your favorite part of your writing process?

I love when I've finished the first pass of a chapter/one-shot, and I'm in the editing stage. The story really feels like it's coming together at that point, and it's before all the self-doubt starts bubbling up (that hits hard just before posting).

7) What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to research for a fic?

A friend of mine is a professor in astroparticle physics, so I spent a couple of hours asking him about quantum mechanics stuff. But only a small portion of that ended up being relevant to the fic and the rest was just for fun.

8) Is there a particular writing rule you struggle with (grammar, spelling, tense, reality in general)?

When I'm first sketching out a scene, about half the time I write in present tense (it feels more like I'm writing a play at that point sometimes), but I publish in past tense. So I end up needing to do a bunch of revisions 😭

Also TYPOS.

9) What was your hardest scene to write so far and why?

Fight scenes are ROUGH, man.

This is probably one of those answers I'll change every time depending what's at the top of my mind. But writing out a fight scene - like in Even Though You're Kryptonian, Darkness in All Things, or It's a Metallo Life - gets surprisingly difficult if there are more than 2 people.

I know exactly how I'd shoot those scenes if I had a camera crew, special effects, etc. But it's hard making sure the audience is aware of where everyone is positioned, why they can/can't act in the moment, etc.

10) Have your characters ever done something you didn’t expect, changing your plot completely?

All the fucking time, man. From the very beginning, even. I was trying to have Lena still be angry by the DEO scene in So I Kept Pretending, but that didn't make sense anymore.

I actually recently had a fic idea dissolve because it wasn't vibing with the characters. Which is fine, it became a ficlet instead!

11) If you could converse with any of the characters, who would it be and why?

Absolutely Kara. I have so many questions about kryptonian culture and how it drives her character.

12) What are some of the tropes or themes that you find yourself returning to in your writing?

Trope-wise, I definitely return to the Rift again and again. I find themes around forgiveness and understanding to be really interesting. Can two good-hearted people with conflicting needs hurt each other while still loving each other? How? What does that mean for the aftermath?

I think that's part of what draws me to supercorp - the complexity of their relationship. How they can both be right, and both be wrong, and love each other enough to rebuild from the ashes.

13) What's your most important resource as a writer?

Coffeeshops and libraries. Getting into slightly busy, cozy environments, out of the house, really helps shake loose the stuff in my head.

14) Can you share some of your strategies for editing and revising your work?

Especially for longer works, I tend to put the work down (and circle to other works, or go outside, or whatever) before coming back to it. It helps to step away for a bit - it's easier to pick up on repetitiveness or unclear passages when coming back.

Though I always find mistakes in my stories much later, so I'm not sure I'm one to give advice on this anyway 🤣

15) Which is worse: making the summary, picking the tags, or the anxiety when you post your fic?

Posting anxiety is the absolute worst. If I leave myself in front of my computer I'll end up refreshing constantly waiting for the first kudos (if it's a one-shot or first chapter) or the first comment (if it's a later chapter) to figure out if I've accidentally pissed off everyone in the fandom somehow.

Luckily, my partner will usually pull me away to go on a walk or grab lunch or do something else to take my mind off it 💗

16) How do you define success for your fanfic - hits? Kudos? Comments? Bookmarks? Or just if you like it?

I only publish what I like. Sometimes I'm nervous that other people won't like it, but I will always like it. Stories that aren't going a way I like - even if I think the idea is cool! - will dissolve. Just recently I dissolved one that felt like it was a cool idea, but it didn't make enough sense for the characters.

Kudos and comments always make me feel appreciated as an author!! Sometimes I'll get a user subscriber out of it, too, and it feels like an honor that someone would want to hear from me more than once.

The thing that feels most precious, though, is when someone comments on how something made them feel (I love making people laugh at my dumb jokes, or cry when a story is supposed to hit emotionally), or when they pick up on something that I wasn't sure would get picked up on.

I tend to lean towards understatement in my stories. For me, the biggest success is knowing that someone recognized what I was going for, without me being overt.

17) Do you have a playlist for your favorite character/ship?

Alas, I don't. But given that Kara is canonically a Britney Spears fan and musicals nerd, I feel like my default playlist works 🤣

18) If fan art was going to be made from your work, which fic would you pick and which fan artist would you like to create it?

Oh gosh, I don't want to pick someone and create pressure, or not pick someone and make them feel bad. This fandom has so many great artists!

That said, some of my favorites do commissions, you can see everything I've commission here.

19) How many WIPs do you currently have?

1 supercorp & 1 rojarias (for @supergirlmayhem)

For me, 2-3 is my happy number, so I'm relieved to be down to this after being so high (I think up to 11?) for so long.

20) What's your advice to new fanfic writers?

If you're wondering why you can't find that story you want, it might mean that you're the one to write it 💗

I never know how to get ideas;; or how to put in hidden meanings and stuff

i can tell you how I come up with the whole story but i cant tell you how to make it worth reading. in my opinin every story is worth reading, the thing is what certain people will like. write for yourself, most importantly, but if you want to get a reaction you have to find your target audience basically lmao. in case of my story writing, it depends. ficlets are very spontaneous most of the time. bigger things are always planned, but kinda... from the wrong way lmao i start with random elements im sure i want to include and then i fill in the gaps. i wish i could tell you what makes a story good, what makes it interesting but im afraid there's no strict rules about it. its not very helpful but id say go with your guts. one thing i will tell you is that a main idea is important. you have to have something you want to tell, your writing has to be about something. it can be literally anything but give the story a main topic, main idea. it'll give the readers something to look out for, it'll make them engage more. "pointless" stories aren't bad, they're fun, but they're not so liked, especially if their long. they can be boring, simply

the second thing is, im afraid, a thing of practice. ive no idea what advice i could give on that, even tho i do write like that a lot. it all depends on the complexicity of your story. the more details you have the more potential for side plots or hidden meanings of some things you'll have. you can try playing around with everything, it IS supposed to be fun after all. plan, make notes, but dont go in a straight line with everything. crawl jump run walk forwards walk backwards do cartwheels lmao anything play around, the ideas will start flowing in once you do

hmmm that is a very hard question. i dunno if i can answer it even, because my opinion on it is that it's really hard to be a bad story teller writing a bad story. the key's in the readers. as i said you gotta find your target audience, and whether its 5 people or 5 thousand still doesn't dictate what's bad, ig. i dunno, really, but i think the answer to that would be that a bad storyteller doesn't learn, doesn't evolve

For Bernard, I try to keep a few key things in mind about his personality/motivation whenever I write him. At the same time, I try to think about what his strengths are vs his flaws.

1) He’s a good leader, but not a tyrant. He’s encouraging to the elves, but not overbearing. He scolds Curtis for being too caught up in the Handbook and also Toy Santa for being so strict about the naughty/nice list, so we know he’s fine with fudging the rules sometimes. This probably extends to a lot of things in his life—how he treats the elves, Scott, and any love interests as well.

2) He’s old af and so probably has been through a lot of things, but not everything! Which can make some interesting scenes where he seems very wise and sure one moment then nervous and doubtful the next (ex: he might know how to handle a disagreement with a friend, but he might NOT know how to handle a disagreement with a lover depending on what background you wanna give him) lots of fun ways to play with this imo

3) He’s a hard worker and appreciates other hard workers. This seems to be a given for most elves but I like to push it to its breaking point with Bernard so that it’s his obvious flaw. He works too hard and he doesn’t wanna talk about it or change his ways at all lol. Which makes sense since he’s in charge, of course he’d want to keep everything on track.

4) He’s an elf! And in my world, elves gonna elf! I take a lot of inspiration from fae lore about how the fair folk behave. Bernard gets portrayed in fic a lot as just a big stick in the mud who’s hot so the love interest falls for him anyways despite him not being very fun. But he IS fun! He’s an elf! Elves love sweets and laughing and playing and snowball fights and dancing and singing and playing pranks and all kinds of mischievous things. So Bernard does too! I give him a few favorites in those things (ex: he likes cider in particular and Freddie Mercury and dancing) and that always helps bring an extra spark to a character.

Honestly I feel like I put a lot of myself into his character. Or maybe I just write characters in scenarios I’ve similarly been in before so it’s easier to know how they might feel/act? Idk but writing what you know seems like a good place to start in general I guess!

At the end of the day, we don’t have a ton of source material for him because he’s a side character. Maybe that means it’s difficult to capture him accurately but I prefer to think of it as an opportunity to fill in the blanks. Every character portrayal is gonna be different from one author to another and that’s okay. That’s great, actually! Take what you can from a character study and put your own spin on it. You know some things about him. Use those to make guesses about the rest of his character based on your own experiences and personality.

Don’t doubt yourself too much. Just have fun with it! Nobody can write Bernard how you’ll write him.

You live your entire adult life with your to-do list, and  You'll die with your to-do list, too. It will never end.

Have you ever noticed that when you cross off one item from your to-do list, two more items seem to appear? It's a never-ending task list. Lets be honest, it's boring. and you don't enjoy it that much.  

The Did List

A Did List is a list of things that you have done already.

When I first tell people to write down the things that they did, they immediately say, "Well I already cross things off of my to-do list all the time! I love doing that!".

But crossing things off of your list is just not the same.  

The Differences Between a Did List and a To-Do List are HUGE

Don't ignore these huge differences. A to-do list makes you want to do less things. It doesn't reward you.

Crossing off that item doesn't feel that great because a to-do list is about reduction. Don't hypnotize yourself into the feeling of reduction. A Did List makes you feel growth.  

The Benefits of a Did List

You get to have a list of things you did each day to look back on.

Maybe you need an alibi, or just need help remembering which day you did something. You'll be surprised how often this comes in handy.

How long ago did I make that pasta sitting in the fridge? When did I talk to that client? Was that last leg-day workout on Wednesday or Tuesday? Now you'll know. It's the little things.

You feel like doing more with a did list. You want to make it bigger and bigger and bigger. It's exciting. It feels like a game. It's like you're playing an RPG game and completing quests. It motivates you.

It moves you. You go from the task completion zombie to someone that takes time to appreciate what they did in a day (instead of grumbling over the things that you didn't get done).

After all, appreciation means growth!

What Kind of Did-List Should I Use To Be Productive Though?

Making a Did List of Only Tasks Done

Pros

Reward yourself only for completing tasks you deem productive, which encourages you to do that more.

Cons

You don't have a list of everything you did that day

You may become too focused on what is productive and what isn't.

Making a List of Everything You Did:

Pros

You don't have to think about if it's a "productive" task or not. You just write it in.

Get a nice dopamine boost every time you write something, which helps your brain operate better.

Makes you realize how much stuff you actually do (appreciating the little things is important).

Cons

You have to write in it constantly

Writing in daily tasks can make them feel even more repetitive (depends how that makes you feel personally)

Personally, I like to make a list of everything that I do. This helps me become aware of myself. I don't write in eating/oral care though. Thats pretty much my only rule.

This is a great addition to my "third person perspective" (I talk about this extensively in the Insanely Productive Hypnosis File Guide). It makes me aware when I am doing pointless activities that are not actually fulfilling me. Staring off into a screen somewhere? We've all been there. Way too much. Try out both styles and see which one you like more.

What App Should I Use for a Did List?

I was really surprised that an app for this does not exist yet, considering that hundreds of to-do list apps exist. As of time of writing, I am using Diaro. Or just use a paper notebook like the good old days.

Okay so, getting a little philosophical here I think but, the actions Ultra’s take to save people, would you consider that justice? I mean, don’t get me wrong but does every confrontation with Kaiju or Aliens have to end in the deaths of said Kaiju and Aliens? I mean, wouldn’t their be a better way to handle them or something? Or am I getting too serious about this?

Ah yes, I can tell you've finished Season 3 of the anime too lmao

But of course not every battle ends with the kaiju/alien's death but I think every ultra fan knows this

I guess it sort of depends on how the Ultra race defines justice tbh, and they're just simply enacting their own code of justice at the end of the day

Afaik, based on the modus operandi of Ultras (at least based on the M78's, taken from various series such Max, Mebius, Z etc), the Ultras will only intervene when the threat is extraterrestrial in nature

But of course for the sake of producing a series, we also see Ultras exterminating Earthian kaiju

So while there is obviously an inconsistency in logic here, as said before, this is basically a kid's show, but at least we got the official stance of the LoL here

You'll probably want to pay attention to the other areas such as the Shinverse, Manga/Anime and Marvel comics to gain some insight.

The Shinverse is going down the same route as the original series, tho seemingly with more stringent rules (since Ripia seems to be dead for good in contrast to the original series)

The Anime sort of answers this in a roundabout way since Bemular blamed himself till the end for his interference but Shinjiro embraced his identity as the new Ultraman. But not as the Ultraman of old, but as his own, unique brand of Ultraman and Justice. So it's sort of a roundabout way of answering the question. One can definitely argue that it didn't even answer the question at all actually since one can totally see both Shinjiro and Ultraman as having totally seperate ideologies that point

The Manga hasn't gotten that far yet since there's far deeper implications about the Space Contraction event that hasn't been sorted out. At least Edo won't be lumping Ultraman and Shinjiro together like in the Anime. But idk if the Zetton Core/Edo's older brother would (but I digress)

The Marvel Comics counterparts are the most proactive bunch with Ultras sent to various planets to actively prepare civilisations to combat extraterrestrial (and kaiju related iirc) threats iirc, so essentially tying in with the Manga/Anime's logic of actually enforcing their own sense of justice onto other planets (tho tbh one can arguably say that this is just simply arming planets to protect themselves against extraterrestrial threats in this context since we need to recall that the context of both the Marvel Comics and the Anime/Manga are very different)

So with 3 different viewpoints (actually more if u don't just consider the M78 Ultras), it still falls back on who defines justice, and in what context, like justice to whom exactly?

Imo, I'd rather receive help to arm myself against potential threats that may come to harm me or people that I care about. But of course this is not a flawless viewpoint, simply take the example if both of us see each other as threats. To reconcile this, we need to consider that there's actually still a far more fundamental principle at play here, but that's going very deep into philosophy alr and it's long af, if you're interested, we can continue this in the dms, I'm personally also into philosophy on the side lol
