Gods, the whole Redditors self-inserting as Boimler thing is probably why some of them are so adverse to the idea of Boimler being queer, even though Mike McMahan said that everyone is "baseline bisexual" (also some of them said T'Lyndi should just be friends, but the same logic also applies to their m/f T'Lyn ship). I also wonder if they think Boimler being queer is "weak" or "unmanly" to them, and thus, feel personally attacked when people headcanon him as bisexual.

Yeah, I try not to psychoanalyze strangers on the internet too much - and gods know, I have certainly projected onto characters in ways that were actively counter to their canon personalities, so I don't want to judge to harshly - but it does seem like some of the folks who project onto Boimler (especially on Reddit) do so in a way that perpetuates sexism and homophobia, and it's not great.

So for this year's Fest I'm diving back into the world of classic Bond films with one of my projects and OH MAN has it been fun. Sometimes I forget Bond can just be a silly guy who likes going places. I need to do a rewatch of the older films more often.

Definitely a different origin! I would say Bill is definitely more on the evil side, whereas the Smiling Man is more amoral but is willing to abide by a natural morality when called out. But only when called out, really. I will say that book #4 drops a lore bomb about the Smiling Man that gives him a lot more depth & interest & motivation info. I can't wait for everyone else whose been reading the series to get to read it.
