“You really didn’t know who I work for?”
When Yuki found out that Pierre’s boss is the Sebastian Vettel, the Lion of Singapore, and the unofficial heir to Schumacher & Co., he had only raised his eyebrows. Pierre took that to mean he had already figured it out.
Yuki blinks at him. “No.”
“But.” Pierre frowns. “Why did you — I always have so many knives on me! Is this not weird to you?” He gestures at his jacket which hangs open, showing four different perfectly sharpened blades tucked into the lining.
Yuki shrugs. “You are French, yes? You like to cut things. Like cheese.”
Pierre mouths wordlessly. Cheese.
“Anyway,” Yuki adds. “You are weird, so. This would not be weird.”
2.
The first time Sebastian meets Lewis, his runners are wet with Michael’s blood and Lewis’s hands are pressing his head into the glass door. His face aches, nose throbbing.
“Can I help you?” he says, or tries to say. It comes out vaguely smushed.
He pushes back a little just to see. Lewis lets him move half an inch before shoving him back.
“Jesus, Hamilton,” Sebastian hears Michael say. His voice cracks roughly. Sebastian nearly cried when the doctor told him Michael survived the surgery, that they got all the bullets out and he was in recovery. He swallows thickly, as the relief makes him all dizzy even now. “I know you got out today but c’mon, let him go. This is Sebastian — I talked about him.”
The hands on Sebastian’s neck disappear and he’s rubbing at his jaw when he turns around. “Ow,” Seabastian tells Michael. His cheeks are pale and his chest is wrapped in white bandages but his eyes are alert and he is grinning.
“Sebastian, this is Lewis Hamilton. Lewis, Sebastian Vettel. Mika says we are all friends here.”
He pats Mika’s ankle that is propped up on the bed beside his hip. Mika’s eyes stay closed, arms folded in his chair, chin on his chest. There are dark bruises under his eyes under now.
“Right. If Mika says so.”
Lewis steps back towards Michael’s bed, grabbing the duffle bag from where it was leaning against the wall. Sebastian looks at his bare arms, the tattoos that go all the way down to his fingers, the rings there. His jeans sit low on his hips. He needs a shave. Sebastian recognises him from his mugshot, even of his hair is longer now and his face is more lined.
They hadn’t had the time to arrange for Michael to share a cell with someone affiliated with them, and when they had got in contact with him, a week later, he had settled in well enough with his cell mate. By Michael standards at least.
Does not talk much, Michael had told Sebastian over the phone. Likes his fucking singing though. Stares at the picture of his dog. Do you think he is lonely?
When Sebastian had brought it up with Mika, the best person for this kind of thing when Corinna is away, Mika had only shrugged, and told him that he doesn’t think it is just Hamilton that is lonely, and that of fucking course anyone who could survive nine weeks in solitary with just Fernando Alonso as company in the next cell over is someone that Michael would find interesting.
Sebastian looks away from the breadth of Lewis’s shoulders in his white tank and pulls a face at Michael’s waggling eyebrows.
3.
“How old do you think I am?” Jenson asks, as Alex adjusts his long-rifle until it sits comfortably against his shoulder, supported by the flat roof they are lying on.
Alex doesn’t answer, because he knows exactly how old Jenson is, and the fact that people continue to tell Jenson to his face that he looks ten years older than his actual age will never stop being funny.
“Ollie, how old do you think I am?” Jenson calls.
“Jen, leave the kid alone,” Alex says. “You could dye your hair.”
“Do I look like a man who would dye his hair solely to stave off questions about his age?”
“Yes,” Alex sweeps the street below them, marking the buildings bracketing the shop they are surveilling. “Ollie, how are you doing over there?”
He can hear him scramble around for a second before a burst of static. “Radio ready for orders, sir.”
Alex grimaces, still not used to that, as Jenson only laughs beside him.
4.
“Michael? We got him.” Eddie leans back against the closed door.
Michael hums, closing his leather notebook. He leaves his fountain pen tucked into the middle so he remembers what month of intakes he was going over.
“Send him in.”
The kid’s hair is long and dirty, falling into his eyes and around his ears. His knees are all busted up under his baggy shorts. His face is drawn and thin, and he is glaring at Michael, jaw clenched.
He goes all pale when he sees who sits in front of him. Seems like he didn’t know whose car it was.
“Jesus,” Michael says. “You’re tiny, how did you reach the pedals?”
This morning, the kid — Sebastian Vettel, Michael had asked around — had hot wired Michael’s car in under two minutes and driven away. Michael had watched from the restaurant’s window, amused and impressed.
Mika had been decidedly less so when Michael told him, ten minutes later, that they were going to have to order a cab.
“I’m not that short!” The glare intensifies. His eyes are kind of freaky, Michael thinks. Very big and bright.
Michael holds out a hand, level with his chest, and squints. He lowers it considerably. Sebastian looks like he wants to bite it.
“Of course not,” Michael tells him soothingly. Eddie gives him a reproachful look. Michael holds back his eyeroll but takes his hand out of reach of Sebastian’s mouth.
“I have a job for you,” Michael says, watching Sebastian’s eyes sharpen. He smiles thinly. “If you’re up for it.”
“A job. For me? What kind of job?” Sebastian tilts his head to the side, making his eyes wide. His curls tumble across his forehead. The whole effect is rather sweet, Michael considers, delighted. This will be interesting.
Mika has been nagging at Michael to stop picking up strays but he thinks he will agree with Michael on this one.
5.
Michael stretches out his back, legs interlocked at the ankles, until something clicks along his spine. He exhales slowly, sinking back into the shitty mattress.
They called for lights out fifteen minutes ago. Lewis is still in the bunk above him. Michael looks at the scratches across the metal rods. He had a good workout today, no interruptions, and his arms are nicely sore.
Seventeen minutes.
Lewis moves in his bed, rolling over to the right and for a moment, Michael thinks he will roll right off the edge, but then he is swinging down, silent. Michael holds himself very still.
"I am not interested in fucking."
"Yeah," Lewis says. "I heard."
Michael swallows. The sharpened edge of Lewis's plastic spoon presses into his throat. Lewis is dense and solidly heavy, knees on either side of his hips, one foot digging into his knee.
Michael has seen him fight. In an enclosed space like this, and unarmed, he isn't sure who would come out the better. His fingers itch with excitement.
"I found the picture you left," Lewis says quietly. The spoon doesn't move an inch. His eyes gleam in the dark like an animal.
"Okay," Michael says, not bothering to pretend not to know what he is talking about.
Lewis was fine this morning. He hummed to himself the entire way to breakfast, and he spotted Michael in the gym without even being asked. It wasn't until after dinner that he went all weird and still in himself.
Lewis presses down, just a little. Michael raises an eyebrow.
"Is he alive?" Lewis asks like he doesn't want to show his hand but is doing so anyway. His mouth trembles at the corners. Michael frowns at him. He has seen Lewis hustle in the yard at card games enough times to know that his poker face is better than this.
"Is he."
Oh. Jesus.
Michael laughs. It is too loud of a sound for where they are. He laughs anyway.
"You have issues," he tells Lewis, who only sends him a cutting look.
"That was supposed to make you feel better! Stop crying and all. You miss him, yes? Thought I could help."
Lewis stares at him. Blinks those animal eyes.
Michael makes a frustrated sound in the back of his mouth. He misses Mika. He never has to talk when Mika is around.
"He is being taken care of in that shelter you put him in. I had my people check. I was being nice! Friendly too!"
"We're friends," Lewis says slowly as if he expects Michael to say no.
"Obviously. You are being ridiculous," Michael says. "You think I would kill a dog? No!" He is a little hurt.
"You are the chief suspect in fifteen open murders," Lewis says, flat.
"Not of dogs!"
Lewis looks at him for a long moment before rolling his eyes. "How are you still alive, man? For real? I thought it was a threat."
He pushes off Michael and pulls himself up onto the top bunk, as silent as he climbed down at the start.
"No one else would see this as a bad thing."
He can hear Lewis roll his eyes.
"Literally every other person here would think you were sending a message. And not a good one."
"I was being nice!"
There is a clang of metal against metal, and their cell bars rattle. "Oi! You two! Shut the fuck up. Save the fighting or fucking for the morning."
"Gross, man," Lewis says, and Michael kicks at the underside of his bunk. "You are gross."
Maybe Mika was right when he said that Lewis might not take his generosity in the way he wanted it, Michael considers. He decides not to tell him. He would be too smug if he did.
He palms the sharpened spoon that Lewis had held to his neck and left on his pillow, beside his cheek. It is small and narrow. Michael presses his thumb against the slice, feeling it. He smiles, and tucks it under his sheet. He had needed a new one.
+1.
Sebastian had been small when Michael met him. All eyes and bony knees and dirty hair.
Then he opened up his mouth and his personality crawled out.
Michael has never looked back.

Two Heartbeats on One Page: A Collection of Playlists
Tumblr media
This story has THREE playlists: a soundtrack and two character playlists. So here they are! I know I already shared the story link but this is just in case someone who hasn’t seen it comes across it in the wild :3
Jordan’s in love with two people (who are in love with each other), he hasn’t spoken to his parents in five years, and despite working almost sixty hours a week, he’s still ages away from having enough to pay for the three surgeries he needs to complete his gender confirmation. This would be a problem anywhere, but particularly so in small-town, homophobic Arizona.
He needs a vacation.
Darcey’s been discharged from the Army after knowing nothing else for eight years, he’s unemployed, and, at twenty-seven years old, he has no choice but to move back in with his parents. Since his discharge was dishonorable, he doesn’t even have health insurance to treat his PTSD.
He just needs some time to get back on his feet and reconnect with his family.
Instead, they find each other.
When Jordan takes Darcey home from a party, they mean it to be a one-night stand, but they turn out to be too compatible to want to give each other up. Neither wants a relationship, but a straightforward, no-strings-attached friends-with-benefits setup will keep things nice and neat, right?
Nope. Instead, everything gets messier.

Things: I see stars and anthems, long dark nights of hot humid air and sweat waiting for rising suns. Work well worthy. Eyes staring hard into distance, anticipation. Large anomalies, gaining weight, drinking monsters. I fall in love to easily - Chet Baker. "You miss me that much?" Could also be said as 'too much'. Solutions you mate asked someone for at some point to just yesterday, some questions have not been answered and are covered by fog. Remember your guidance and practices. None the wiser, wiseness in exchange of religion. Health in exchange for happiness. One relationship I feel has been severed or will become. Someone with glasses, I see a flag somewhere, a jacket hooded, hands in pockets. Someone has been avoiding you or you've them, this person is constricted somehow, waiting for you to come up to them so they can say sorry or move on if they could. Dancers. Ambc (idk what that means). Danganronpa. Jewish. Separation or difference in nationalities, one of them may have moved recently and is worried about how things will go in their current state. Looking at the ground. Looking there all their life, desperate for someone to notice them or someone covered in a light they adore, blonde or dirty blonde. Again hoodie or jacket. Possibly even a traditional style of clothing somewhere in culture. Mudded shoes. Game Night. "Scoundrel". "You always say that, you always promise.". "Stop looking at me your making me rethink/nervous" (this could be stop looking at me in general too. Someone wants you to let go, or to let go themselves. The relationships and admirers you've gained over your youth and life have left somewhere, you cause a sense of movement in people. Something they both love and hate. Talking late night. Hy-Vee, a grocery store, dollar tree. Gained sweetness. Sweetener. Coffee shop only open in the mornings. Waking up early and someone you may text first or who texts you. Love hate relationships. You could feel your guardians and guides have left. Your patrons are always watching, relax and remember to breath through things. Times will come if you wish and work, your main focused probably should be work to find romance soon. People admire when you're focused and getting things done. Caught someone staring once most likely. "Stupid." Said in a way where it's not supposed to be insulting but I forgot 5h3 word for it. You see one of them in water, reflections as they come to mind. When you let out a sigh, the air reaches them. It's weird but true, they share the same mindset in a way and some have become a bit toxic to where they want to mold around you and become you almost. Jerky meat. Barbecue, maybe have met or saw each other recently near something like this. "How could you." A friend and a quarrel. "Shut up" either said passively or seriously and toxic like. Spills. Sippy cup - Melanie Martinez I think that's the title. Dream sweet major song piece. G, f, r, n, m, k, o, p, b, v, n, mm, cc, c, t , gf, gd, Michael, Mika, hemorrhoids, gender fluid, gray hair dye or clothing a lot, one or 3 are around 5'5-6'0 or even 6'1. Played a game with a few recently. Lucky star. Ginger. Snaps. Large dog. Beagle. Eagle. Eye of the tiger. Scepter. Arm wrestling. Arm chair. Nonbinary.

The Arrangement
TITLE: The Arrangement  CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 12 AUTHOR: the-resal10 ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine you are marrying Loki. It was an arranged marriage and you are not too happy about it. Loki is quite happy as he has always secretly liked you. But he sees how unhappy you are and plays along.
Imagine being in an arranged marriage with Loki. You aren’t too unhappy about it, but he is and is at times rude to you. You two argue and bicker a lot before you both begin to fall in love.  RATING: T NOTES/WARNINGS: I apologize if there are any typos. This is a quick chapter.
Chapter 12: The Question
Josephine entered the palace, holding a basket against her hip. Loki approached her with a friendly smile, which she happily returned.
“Hello, Josephine.”
“Hello, Loki.”
“You’re just returning from the towns?”
She nodded, “Yes. I brought a few pastries for Thor.” She nodded to the basket. “Would you care for one?”
“Uh, no, thank you. Rosalind isn’t with you?”
“No. She went to the bookstore while I went to the bakery. She told me she’d see me back at the palace. I think she’s still at the bookstore.”
His smile faded. “Oh.”
“Is something wrong?”
“No, no. Everything’s fine. Uh, I think Thor’s on the training grounds.”
“Thank you. I’ll see you later.” She walked passed him, continuing up the hall.
Loki placed his hands on his hips, clenching his teeth as he looked forward, clearly angry. He left the palace, going to the stables and asking for his horse. As soon as the stable boy arrived with his horse, Loki quickly mounted the creature and rode towards the fields behind the palace.
Loki’s horse ran fast to meet Loki’s commands. They slowed down when the only tree within the fields came into view.
He dismounted his horse, not caring to tie the reins to something secure. He passed around the tree, trying to think of reasons why his wife would still be in the towns besides to see her lover.
Rosalind returned to the palace, heading to her chambers where she was greeted by Sterling but not Loki. She looked around before asking a guard if he knew where her husband went, he told her to the fields behind the palace.
She grabbed her satchel before leaving the palace. She walked to the fields instead of taking her horse. As the tree came into her view, she saw Loki’s horse grazing in the fields while Loki sat against the tree.
She picked up her skirts and ran to Loki. By the time she reached him, she was breathless. Loki watched her as she held onto her side, trying to control her breathing.
“What are you doing out here?” She panted. He didn’t answer but stared angrily at her. “Your horse, you didn’t tie his reins, he could run away.”
Loki stood up. She went over, cupping his face. “Hey! Is everything okay?”
“You went to see him, didn’t you?” He said, almost whispering.
“What are you…?”
“Mika.” He said aloud, making her jump.
“I…”
“I’m not stupid, Rosalind. I know you went to see him.” He pushed her hands away.
“Yes, but we didn’t do anything. I swear.”
Loki stared at her, knowing she was telling the truth. “I don’t care.”
He was ready to turn and leave, but she grabbed the collars of his shirt, pulling him into a kiss. Loki wanted to pull away but they hadn’t shared a kiss since they came back to the palace from the mountains.
When she didn’t feel him pull away, she deepened the kiss. She pushed him against the tree, her lips leaving his to place kisses on his cheek, from his jawline to his neck. She pulled at his shirt collar to press her lips against more of his skin. She nipped and sucked, enjoying the breathless moans that escaped his lips.
Loki gripped Rosalind’s waist as they traded places. He pressed her against the tree, hands hiking up her dress and his lips on hers. They shared heated kisses, their hands searched the other’s body, clawing and grabbing.
“Prince Loki! Princess Rosalind!” Someone called out from afar, a guard.
They quickly pulled away.
Loki cleared his throat before peeking his head from behind the tree. “Yes! We’re both here!” He called out.
“Are you alright?” The guard called out again.
“Yes! We’ll be there shortly!” Loki looked back at his wife, who laughed. “I’m sorry.” He chuckled.
“No, I should be the one to apologize.” She licked her lips before opening her satchel and pulling out a book. “Oh, this is for you.”
He took the book from her, smiling. “Thank you.”
He watched as she left him behind the tree and approached the guard holding the horse’s reins. He turned his attention to the book and examined the cover, it was a romantic novel. Loki bit his lip, trying to hide a smile as he followed the two back to the palace.
X
The following day, Thor left the throne room after a meeting with his father. He saw Rosalind down the hall, talking to a guard in whispers, avoiding his gaze and twisting the ring on her finger.
She finally looked up and saw Thor approaching them. Her lips broke into a smile, “Thor!”
“Hello, Rosalind.” He smiled at her but it faded when he looked at Mika. “Is everything alright?”
She nodded, “Yes. You finished your meeting with the Allfather?”
“Uh, yes.”
“What was the meeting about?” Mika asked.
Thor looked at him, “it’s a matter that I cannot disclose to anyone outside the royal family.” He answered simply.
“Um, well,” Rosalind said, catching his attention. “We can talk about it later if you want. I, um, need to speak to the Allfather.”
“You better go now before he is needed.” Thor said.
“I’ll see you later.” She said to both of them before leaving.
After she left, Mika bowed, excusing himself.
Thor watched Mika until he was out of his sight. Thor searched the halls to find his brother. He found him with Josephine, leaving the library.
He faked a smile and placed a kiss on his wife’s forehead, “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
“No, not all.” She said, smiling.
“Good. Uh, Josephine, if you don’t mind, I need a moment alone with Loki.”
“Oh. Alright. I’ll leave you two alone then.” she continued down the hall.
Thor pulled Loki aside. “What is it, Thor?” Loki asked.
“Do you know that new guard that arrived in Asgard a few months ago? The one from Rosalind’s realm?”
“Yes, his name is Michael, I believe.”
“Well, I left the throne room and saw him talking to Rosalind. They were talking in whispers so I really didn’t hear what they were saying but it looked as though he was angry with her.”
He looked up at him, “Angry?”
“Yes, and she was avoiding his gaze. So I interrupted them.” he sighed, “I have a bad feeling about him, Loki. I’m worried about Rosalind.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, maybe Rosalind and Michael have a history together? And I’m sorry to say this, but maybe they’ve been…”
“That’s my wife you’re talking about.” Loki interrupted, angered.
“I’m only looking out for you, Loki.” he defended. “You’re my brother and I would hate to see you played like this.”
“I know, but…”
“I know that you love her, Loki, but I would keep an eye out.”
He sighed, “Where is she now?”
“Talking to father.” he placed a hand on his shoulder, “if you need anything, brother, please tell me.”
He nodded, “thank you for bringing this to my attention.”
Loki made his way to the throne room. He waited outside for Rosalind, pacing the hall as he thought to himself. This couldn’t continue, her and Mika. He didn’t care at first but now that he has feelings for her, now that he loves her, he doesn’t want to share her with anyone else. The thought of the two together made him angry.
The doors suddenly opened, making Loki stop in his tracks. Rosalind stepped out, “Loki. What are you doing here?”
“I need to talk to you.”
“What is it?”
He looked past her and saw his father sitting on his throne, looking at them. He took her hand, “come with me.”
He led her to their chambers, closing the door behind them. “Is something wrong, Loki?” she asked.
“May I ask what you were discussing with my father?”
“I asked him if I could leave Asgard in a few days. He’s allowing me to see my family for a day.”
“Just you?”
“Yes.” she picked up his hands, “Loki, I haven’t seen them in months and I’d like to go alone. Just to spend a day with them without the ‘princess of Asgard’ title. Not that I don’t like the title, I just want to spend time with them like I did before.”
“I don’t feel comfortable letting you go alone.”
“I’ll be with my father and sister, who are already surrounded by guards that they trust. You know, the guards who look like they could kill you with just a punch.” they chuckled. “I’m sorry, but I really want to go.”
“No, I understand. Sterling and I will miss you, is all.” He searched her eyes.
She smiled, “even if it is just a day, I’ll miss you both as well. Look after him for me?”
“Of course, but what am I to do while you’re away?”
“Whatever you like.” She placed his hands on her hips, “when I return, however, I’ll be expecting an amazing welcome home. You can show me how much you’ve missed me in bed.”
He smirked, “that won’t be a problem, darling.”

Father Dearest
With the help of the ever amazing @acealex-blueiguana , we wrote some angst about Cecil’s not very nice father.
TW: racism against Carlos, homophobia, deadnaming, misgendering
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cecil puts the phone down, his face paler than usual. He leans on the counter and presses a hand over his mouth.
Carlos looks up from his work at the table. "Cecil? What is it?" He stands. "What's wrong? What happened?"
Cecil turns, burying his face in Carlos's shoulder.
"Love, I need you to talk to me." Carlos says softly, rubbing Cecil's back.
Cecil picks up his head. "My father is coming over for dinner." He whispers.
"I thought your father was dead?"
Cecil shakes his head but doesn't look up. "No. I wish I could say he was though."
"Maybe he wants to make amends?"
"You really think so?"
"We shouldn't rule it out."
Cecil nods but doesn't look convinced. He lets out a soft sigh and looks away. "Michael will be home soon."
"What are we going to tell your father?"
"It's none of his damn business!" Cecil snaps before taking a breath. "I'm sorry." He whispers. "I'm sorry."
"Hey." Carlos murmurs, cupping Cecil's face. "We'll figure it out. I promise." He turns as the door opens. Michael stands there for a moment, laughing and waving at presumably at Mika.
Michael walks into the house, shutting and locking the door behind him. "Home!" He calls out and carefully walks to the kitchen counter to lay his backpack down.
Carlos steps away from Cecil after giving him a soft kiss. "How was your day?" He asks, pulling open the fridge. "I'm thinking lasagna for dinner. What do you think?"
"There was a fight at school. Bet ya can guess at least one person involved." He smirks. "Whatever you make is always good. Still better than my house." The words come so easily. This is home to him now, but when did the change in his mind happen?
Carlos laughs. "Even Cecil's cooking is better than your house.'
"Hey! Rude. My cooking isn't that bad."
Carlos closes the fridge. "You made toast inedible."
"Maybe I like it burnt."
"Not even Khoshekh would eat it."
Cecil huffs a pout before looking at Michael. "Michael...um...my father is coming over tonight. I wanted to let you know."
The boy tilts his head, eyebrows furrowed. "Your father? How did he even find you?" He asks before shaking his head and twisting his sleeves. "Do- um- do you want me to stay someplace else while hes here then? I can stay at the station or see if Mika will let me crash with them- theyre normally down for it…"
"I have no idea…" Cecil shakes his head. "No. This is your home and if he doesn't like it, he can leave." As much as he didn't want to admit it, having Michael there would help to keep him grounded.
"Okie dokie." He pauses. "Um… if you change your mind, let me know. I can get Mika to pick me up if needed… I'm not really the greatest kid, and I dont wanna cause problems with your da- father."
"I'd rather have you here than him." Cecil says with a small smile.
Carlos puts the pasta dough and a jar of homemade sauce on the counter. "Do you know anything about your father?"
Cecil shakes his head with a sigh. "Never met him."
"Samesies." Michael says, trying to lighten the mood, before giving Cecil a hug. "We'll figure it out."
"Yes we will because that's what we do." Carlos smiles.
Cecil nods a little, wrapping his arms around Michael. "Yeah."
Unsure how to help right now, the boy changes topic to get Cecils mind on something else. "Mika was in the fight. They did good as usual. They also got suspended but promised they'd still walk me there and hang around until its time for us to go home."
"Who did they fight this time? And why?"
Carlos shakes his head with a laugh. "That kid is something else." He says as he starts to roll out the dough.
"One of the jocks on the football team. They threw food at Roger, so Mika threw a fist." He smiles. "Roger's okay. We checked on him before they got dragged to the office."
"Ah that means I'll be getting a phone call from a conflicted Earl later then." Cecil chuckles softly. "Oh well. I'm glad he had someone to stand up for him."
Carlos looks over his shoulder. "I don't condone fighting but i hope Mika kicked their ass."
"We both try to stand up for him, but Mika does a much better job." He nods. "They definitely kicked his ass. The dude didnt even know what was happening at first."
"I'm sure you won't have a problem with him anymore."
Carlos lets out a loud groan, making Cecil jump. "We are out of garlic!"
"Carlos it's not the end of the world."
"It's bad luck. My mama said that if you don't have garlic in your house when a stranger comes, bad things will happen."
"So get more garlic?" Michael offers. "Did you have garlic when I showed up?"
"Course we did. It wasn't fresh though…"
"I'll just run to the store and-" Cecil is cut off by the doorbell. He pales a little. "He's here." He whispers.
"Breathe, dad. We got this." The boy hugs Cecil tighter. "I'll get the door if ya want."
Cecil shakes his head. "No. I'll be alright."  He takes a deep breath and squares his shoulders before crossing to the front door and opening it. He stared at the man on the other side of the door in shock. He looked just like Cecil, same deep eyes and platinum hair. He was lacking the winding tattoos though as far as Cecil could see. No wonder my mother hated looking at me. Cecil thinks.
Brian stands for a moment before crossing his arms. "You going to make your old man stand outside all night?"
Cecil quietly moves to the side, watching the man enter the house.
Michael grabs his bag off the countertop and slings one strap over his shoulder. "I'll- um- go put my stuff away…" he says to Carlos: his tone hinting at his growing anxiety. Visitors at his house always meant stricter parents than normal. After all, they have to save face and br the happy family the Richardsons claim they are.
He cautiously walks into the living room, doing his best to stay hidden and out of the way. He just has to make it to his room.
Carlos nods and puts a reassuring hand on Michael's shoulder before joining Cecil in the living room. "Hello Mr. Palmer. I'm-"
"Cecil you got yourself a maid?" Brian asks, looking impressed.
"I'm not-"
"Carlos is my husband." Cecil corrects.
"No. No son of mine is a fag."
Michael tenses at the word. "Not really your son." The kid, against his better judgement, mumbles under his breath as he's halfway across the room.
That catches Brian's attention and he studies the child. "You must be Michelle. The nice lady in yellow at the station told me about you."
"His name is Michael." Cecil says, shoulders tense. "And-"
Sensing that Cecil is about to ramble, Carlos speaks up. "Would you like a drink? Dinner is in the oven so we have about forty five minutes before we can eat."
"Got any whiskey?"
"We don't drink."
Brian cocks an eyebrow. "Since when? Last I heard you were a drunk and a whore." He snaps at Michael. "Get me a drink girl."
Of course she did. Lauren is just wonderful that way isnt she. Michael tries to brush off the sinking feeling in his stomach. He still has to put his bag away after all, so he ignores the request. Brian makes him feel similar to his Father, but Cecil and Carlos wouldnt let him hurt him. Right?
So Michael just grips his strap tighter and continues walking to the guest room. Theyve got forty five minutes to survive this "pleasant" conversation. He can manage that.
"Leave him alone. I'll get your drink." Cecil stands, grateful for the excuse to leave the room. He gets a glass of water but leans on the counter to collect himself. He hears his father call after him, something about not liking his attitude.
"Kids these days. To lazy to even listen." He looks at the Hispanic man he was left alone with. "It's bad enough my son is a fag but he settled for a mexican of all people?"
Carlos tightens his jaw and waits before answering. "I am not a Mexican. Not all Hispanics are from Mexico. I'm from Chile."
"I don't care what you are."
Michael flings his bag onto the bed. "People fucking suck." He says to himself. He doesnt want to go back out there, but he doubts Carlos or Cecil would be happy with him hiding away. So he snags his rubiks cube off the night stand and makes his way back to the living room.
"I'm not going to sit here and let you insult me."
"Well you're free to go back to the field you came from with-" Brian clicks his tongue. "Six bastard kids?"
"Here." Cecil interrupts before Carlos could answer. "All we have is water." That isn't the truth but his father didn't need to know about the bottle of wine stored away for a special day.
"Damn took you long enough. I see your mother didn't teach you anything about good manners."
"She was too busy raising two kids by herself."
"And what's your excuse with her?" He gestures at Michael.
Michael glances up at him before turning his attention back to the rubiks cube. It's the only way to keep himself from misbehaving. The click of the cube and the ability to keep his hands busy help his anxiety in a manner that doesnt destroy the sleeves of hoodies. Hes trying to swallow the growing pit of dysphoria, knowing that this evening will only make it worse.
"He's fine." Carlos sits down in a recliner as Cecil settles in the rocking chair. "You're hardly in a place to give parenting advice."
Cecil looks over, his face pale again. "Carlos…"
Brian shakes his hand and sets the glass down with a thud. "What you know about being a father? Besides the fact that you're supposed to throw sandals at them to shut them up."
The boy flinches at the cup and bites his tongue. He wants to say something. He wants to stand up for his dads, but hes scared. He doesnt know how Brian will react, and hes only just starting to heal again after being beaten by his own father.
"Is there a reason you're here or did you just come to insult my lifestyle?"
Looking away from Carlos, Brian looks at Cecil. "You'll do well to speak when spoken to boy."
"You'll do well to-"
"Why don't we change the subject?"
Michael keeps his head down, afraid of what might happen if he steps out of line. He's nearly done with solving the rubiks cube. Click. Click. Click. The sound near deafening when the conversation has silences.
"Fine. Straight to the chase then."
Cecil doesn't answer, pulling out his latest project and a set of knitting needles. He does look up when he feels eyes on him.
"Do you have any sense of manhood at all?"
"He could kill you with those needles." Carlos muses. "And I'd help."
Click. Click. Click. The boy smiles as he solves the cube. "Carlos?" He asks. Waving the cube at the scientist, he silently asks for him to shuffle before tossing it across the room to him.
Carlos catches the cube and looks at it for a moment before beginning to shuffle it. He turns it and shakes his head, shuffling it more before tossing it back. "There ya go."
"Some of us appreciate the beauty in art and take pride in what they make." He looks up at his father. "Even if it isn't what you want." He had a cold but sad look in his eyes.
"If it isn't good enough, toss it away and start over. That's common sense."
"The Chinese fix broken things with gold to show they are still beautiful despite being broken."
"Well last I check we are not Chinese. And we are to good for broken things. When something breaks, throw it away."
Michael scoffs at Brian's first words. That's what his birth parents did, but Cecil is different. "And you know all about common sense." He mutters as he works on the cube again. The kid knows he's not suppose to speak but cant help it. This dick is a moron, and hes lucky that Mika didnt stay for dinner like usual.
"Excuse me little girl?"
"You're good at throwing things away." Cecil whispers.
"You will not speak to your father that way."
"You cant call yourself that. You're just a deadbeat sperm donor." Michael snaps before he can catch himself.
"That is definitely out of line…" He mentally scolds himself. "Mika will find this amusing."
"You gave up the right to call yourself my father when you walked out before my mother and I even left the hospital." Cecil snaps, dropping his project to his lap.
"You haven't earned the right to have me be your father."
"You never even gave me the chance to try and be good enough for you!"
Carlos flinches at Cecil's words but tenses as Brian stands.
Panic and fear flood Michael's system when Brian stands, but the idea of him hurting Cecil forces himself to his feet. A giant on one end and a teen a little over five feet on the other. Brian is like his Father, but for some reason he doesnt feel as terrified standing up to him. "This is not your house. You do not get to talk to my dad like that." He growls.
Cecil keeps his eyes level with Brian as he stands, despite his heart pounding in his chest. Especially when Michael speaks.
Brian stops his track toward Cecil and turns on Michael. "You do not tell me how to deal with my son. I'm too late to make a decent man but I'm sure that can change."
Cecil stands and moves across the room, stopping in front of the older man. "I am not afraid of you, Brian Alexander Palmer."
Cecil barely flinches when a wide hand comes across his face.
"You do not get to address me like that. I am your father!"
"Abby was more of a father to me than you ever could have been."
Carlos manages to catch Brian's wrist before he can hit Cecil again. The motion causes Brian's sleeve to slip down a little.
Cecil's eyes fall on the marks on Brian's arms. The needle marks he knew all too well. I'm just like him….
Maybe Mika wasnt the best influence, or maybe they were the best one Michael could have.
As soon as Brian hit Cecil, Michael was reacting. He would gladly take pain if it kept Cecil safe. Rage immediately flooded the panic that was in his chest, and he throws the rubiks cube directly at Brian's head. "Asshole!" Michael yells. Hands clenched into fists; his body moving forward towards the bastard. Fight or flight. For once the boy chooses to fight.
Brian's head snapped to the side when it was struck by the plastic cube and he jerks his hand free from Carlos's grip. "You little bitch!" He brings his heel down on the cube, feeling it break under his foot. "I'll put you in your place since my worthless son can't seem to do that."
Cecil and Carlos react at the same time, rushing toward Brian as he lunges toward Michael.
Carlos manages to get ahold of the back of Brian's shirt but Cecil gets an elbow to the Face and stumbles back.
Too late to change my mind now. Michael's eyes dart to Cecil as he gets knocked back, but he stands his ground. Fists clenched, and eyes determined. He knows how to dodge and throw a punch. Hes not allowed to defend himself, but hes not defending himself right now. Hes defending Cecil. Hes defending his dad.
Carlos pulls Brian back towards him and away from Michael. "Not in my house."
Brian struggles against Carlos's hold. "The little brat needs to know her place."
Cecil picks himself up, nose bleeding a little but he didn't care. "You will not lay a hand on my son."
"My place is here. You do not get to talk to my dads like that." Murder in the boy's eyes.
"Where is your real family? Cause I sure as hell know this isn't it. Cecil's to dumb to keep anything alive more than a week."
"Out." Cecil says, voice shaking a little. "I want you out of my house."
"I came for dinner and we haven't eaten yet so I'm not leaving until I get what I came for."
Carlos brings his free and up to grasp the back of Brian's neck. "You heard him."
"This is my real family. But you havent met everyone." His eyes hold fire as he stares at the bastard. "Trevor! Can you help? Please!" The boy yells, making sure the sheriff's secret policeman can clearly hear. "Be lucky Mika didnt stay for dinner, or youd already be dead. You are nothing but worthless scum. So get out."
"Who the hell is Trevor?"
"If you bothered to stick around, you'd know." Cecil couldn't fight the smirk as the door was flung open.
"In my defense," Trevor says as he makes his way toward where Brian was struggling in Carlos's hold. "I would have intervened sooner but I didn't want to spook you. Also I found cool lizard in the bush." The Secret Policeman stops in front of Brian. "I was wondering if I'd ever see your face again Brian. I haven't missed it." He punches Brian in the nose, causing a satisfying crack. "That's for hitting an upstanding member of our town." He then thumbs Brian's forehead. "That's cause you're ugly."
"I appreciate it, Trevs." Michael smiles. "Did ya get any pictures of the lizard?"
"Hold em for me?" Trevor takes Michael's hand and puts down a blue gecko with orange spots. "It's not poisonous. I already checked. I'll take this" He takes ahold of Brian's arm. "And be back soon."
"You better take your hands off of me! I have rights!"
"Night Vale doesn't work like the outside world and I'm sure you'll find that out." Carlos calls with a wave before looking back at Cecil.
His nose had stopped bleeding which is good but he still was shaken up.
"Hey" Carlos says softly. "It's alright. He's gone now."
The boy cups his hands to keep the gecko in his hold. "I'm sorry for not behaving and staring a scene… I didnt mean for you to get hurt…" Michael whispers. He made it worse. Maybe he shouldve stayed with Mika.
Cecil shakes his head. "I was dumb to think he would be a nice guy." He sits down and puts his head in his hands. "I'm sorry I let him in here. I should have known better."
"There's no way you could have known…"
"I should have known! And what if I turn out just like him? I already am like him…." He groans. "I should have known."
Michael plays with the lizard as he walks over to Cecil. "Hey…" He gently taps Cecil with his foot. "You're not like him. I can prove it. Do ya want me t list all the ways I already know you're nothing like him?"
"He has my face and…" he leans down and rolls up his pant leg, revealing the needle scars. "It's easier to hide on my legs. I'm no better than he is."
The boy ignores Cecils attempt to argue. Hes not shocked by the scars; Em had told him about Cecil's past before. Still playing with the lizard, he sits on the floor.
"You dont drink. Ya dont misgender me- not accidentally and never intentionally unless it's to keep me safe from Mother and Father. You dont snap demands at me. You're not racist or sexist. Ya see good in broken things, and you dont see them as just trash to be thrown away. You havent walked out on your family." He lists. "Ya never broke my rubiks cube before." He gives a small smile. "You let me play with Tic Tac which I know he wouldnt ever allow if they belonged to him. You're a good dad."
"According to Abby so was he until I came along."
"And yet...you made the best you could with a shitty hand and you didn't let it beat you. Because you're stronger than he is. You are not your past. And you are not him. You are better than him."
"According to my case worker, Mother and Father were good people before I came along. Does it make it my fault that they're not good people now?" He asks wanting to prove a point.
Cecil opens his mouth to argue but whatever he was going to say was cut off by the over going off.
"See? Even the oven disagrees with you." Carlos chuckles. He stands and goes to the oven to pull dinner out.
"I know this shouldn't bother me as much as it does but it's a...chain isn't it? Hereditary?" He runs a hand through his hair. "I don't want to be like that."
"Theres no way you'll be like that. Carlos wouldnt let ya. You arent your father. Hes more of a sperm donor actually, and that doesnt determine how the kid will turn out. I dont know my birth parents, but I dont think I'm like them. I mean I wouldnt give up a defenseless kid and have them left in the snowy night only a couple hours of being alive. That's just a messed up thing to do." He pauses, taking one of Cecils hand and letting the gecko crawl onto it. "You already have shown that you're much better than Brian. You're a dad. Hes a deadbeat."
Cecil gives a small smile at the lizard before looking up at Michael. "It isn't often we switch roles." He says, his expression soft. "You're such a good kid."
"No, I'm a terrible child." He smiles. "Mika is so gonna have a field day when they find out I yelled and threw my rubiks cube at your sperm donor."
"I hope he's locked away when you tell them about how I let myself get slapped because they might go nuts."
"You didnt even flinch! I dont know how you did that! I flinched when he put his cup down too hard."
"I think I knew it was coming. I've spent enough time with pissing off Lauren to know when I'm about to get hit. Or stabbed. Or kicked. Or- yeah. I think you get the idea."
"I'm use to it too, but I still flinch. Even when m not gonna get hit, I still flinch. Its impressive."
"Tell ya a secret. I almost went into cardiac arrest. It's amazing I didn't."
"How about you stop talking about dying and come eat before this gets cold?" Carlos calls.
"I propose after dinner we watch a movie and try to salvage this evening. What do you think?"
"I couldve fought him. You and Carlos were quick to shutting that down though. Lame." He giggles and stands up, grabbing Cecils arm and trying to pull him up. "What movie?"
"I didn't want to risk you getting hurt. I can take more than you can." Cecil points out as he stands. "Coraline?"
"If I can knock you on your ass and slam Father into a wall with my ankle more sprained than usual, I think I could handle Brian." He huffs before smiling. "Okie dokie."
"I had never met him. I don't know what kind of damage he could do. I refused to risk your safety. And that's all I'm saying on it." Cecil says, hoisting Michael over his shoulder and depositing him at the kitchen table.
The boy squeaks when Cecil lifts him up and laughs when he gets dropped off at the table.
"Children. Settle down so we can eat." Carlos said, sitting the pan on the table. "Don't make me smack you both with a spoon."
"Uh rude."
"Oh hush and eat."

Silent Retreat 2, Ch. 22
Been trying to keep up a regular Thursday update, so here you go. Things are still tense in our story, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
Also on AO3 and ff.net.
Sooner or later, during times of emergency, or... duress, you lose the ability to really feel.  Your senses and heart become so numbed from the pounding that you detach.  You alternately imagine you have no idea what’s happening, and then perceive you’re responding matter-of-factly, as each moment and development lope by you in slow motion.  It’s a sort of exhaustion that allows you to regain some logic in the face of utterly wanting what’s happening to you to not be real.  You have to deal with things moment by moment because you have no choice, no ability to predict the future when the present has gone against all you’d predicted, no option to roll back time and change your course no matter how much you wish you could.  You just survive.  Physically, maybe even mentally at times you are present, but emotionally, spiritually, you’ve left orbit.  Maybe you think you’re experiencing things, maybe you even think you’re sad, angry, panicked, hurt, but you aren’t really, yet.  You’re too distant to feel the real weight of gravity, and sound doesn’t travel in the vacuum of space.  As very real and tender you may feel in disjointed moments, you are not here now.  You are... elsewhere, elsewhen.  Maybe even nowhere, no-time, if you’re gone enough.
So there are minutes you can’t remember.  Minutes that feel like eons because they’re so painful, and hours that feel like seconds because your mind has just erased them—blip!  Parts are just gone.
But they’re not really gone.  You’ll know that, later.  You’ll feel them, one way or another.
So you have to remind yourself.  You have to… play reporter to your brain, adult to the child inside you who’s got their hands over their ears crying la, la, la as loud as they can so they won’t hear you.  After all, you’re telling them the monsters under the bed are real.  Sometimes, that can be too much to handle.
This is why I kept repeating myself, talking as clearly and slowly as I could in my panicked state, when I next spoke with Mika.
“So the flight lands at 4:00 at the latest?” I asked her again, trying to make sure we both understood what was happening.
“Mm, the statistical probability of this flight landing on time is, historically, maybe fifty-seven percent.  Not good.  The average delay is forty-nine minutes, but that means it could be longer.  But I will be doing everything I can for the sky and land traffic.  I can access local authorities’ systems easily.”
“Right,” I breathed.  “I just… we still can’t know.  I mean... “  I sucked in a shaky breath, trying to convince myself that if something threw our already shaky plan off, between me, Teo and Michael, we’d keep everything from falling apart.
“Teodoro is an actor, he’ll figure something out.  He is quick on his feet,” she said, basically echoing the reassurance I’d given us both earlier in the conversation.  Mika had become less brittle, but she still wasn’t the best at handling emotional dialogue.  We were going in circles.
“Yeah,” I think I answered.  My eyes kept being drawn to the edge of the curtain over the window.  It fluttered slightly, again and again, betraying a hint of wind that was breaking the seal of insulation.  Fluttered, just like my stomach, my pulse in my throat; trembled, like my hands if I paid them too much attention.  I forced myself to blink and look at the wall, the solid, wood table.
“We have won before,” she piped up, over my awkward pause.  “We will do it again—wait.” There was millisecond of silence, then the ambient sound of her end of the call.  “Hold on, Cosima.”
Her line went silent again, and I guessed she was on another line with someone else.  Maybe it’s Sarah , I thought, wishing for reassurance.   Maybe—
“Cosima,” Mika’s voice broke through again, “I have contact with Delphine.  She’s trying to reach you.”
Everything went still for a moment.  I swallowed, trying to wet my suddenly dry tongue, to speak.
“It’s, it’s her? ” I babbled, I don’t know why.  As if Mika could analyze her voice digitally and confirm it.  She actually probably could, come to think of it, but would she have to —
“Yes, I’ve traced her call back.  She’s on her mobile, the number you have for her.  GPS shows she’s in transit, to the northeast.  Shall I put her through?”
I was stunned for a moment, hearing only the seemingly harsh intake and outtake of my breath.
“Uh,” I mumbled, my eyes turning upward to roam around the room, as if I expected Teo or Michael to materialize right then and there and give me advice.  “I… how does she sound?”
“She sounds upset. She’s leaving messages on your voicemail, wanting to know what’s happening and if you’re alright,” Mika answered.
“OK, but,” I felt a headache suddenly clutch at my temples, and squeezed my hands into fists for a moment.  “Does she sound… honest?”
There was a pause at the other end of the line.
“I cannot be sure.  But… I think so.  She sounds… worried, to me.  I’ve gotten into her records.  So far only two other calls I’m finding within the last few hours, and one was to her voicemail service.  The other… looks to be a line at Yale University, Natural Sciences department.  That’s all I know.  But she is calling every few minutes.”
I took in another breath and felt my lower lip tremble again.  There was nothing more I wanted than to talk to her, to hear her voice soothing me, speaking words of love and reassurance.  And yet…
“I don’t know if I should,” I choked out to Mika.  There was a pause, I don’t know how long.
“I don’t know,” Mika finally said.  “She sounds authentic, but this your… girlfriend.  I can play back her messages to you, if you want.”
“God,” I clutched my forehead in my hand, “Sarah would kill me if she knew I was even thinking about it.”
“I can try to connect with Sarah, but I don’t know if that will help you.”  Mika’s voice was getting that little whine, that higher pitch indicating she was becoming emotionally overloaded.  A few years ago and she might just have disconnected with everyone for a while, to clear her head.  I knew what I was asking her was impossible for her to know, but I didn’t trust myself, and I didn’t know what to believe.
“Whether you believe her or not, we might be able to get more information if you speak with her,” Mika added, focusing my thoughts.  “But… I don’t want you to get hurt, Cosima.  I can keep her from you, maybe get her car stopped if you want… but I can’t stop her from hurting your heart.”
It was true, just as simply as Mika in her shy, less-than-fluent-in-english way put it.  No one could stop Delphine from hurting me, from the circumstances hurting me.  I was hurting and confused, already.
But I still had to think about my son.  And anything I could glean, any information, might be useful in helping him.
If I could be shrewd.  If I could be strong.
“Can — ” I stopped my sentence so quickly my throat clicked.  I was about to ask Mika if she could talk with Delphine, try to tease her intent out of her, but that was something Mika couldn’t do.  The murder of her best friend and our clone sisters in Helsinki had damaged her scales of trust forever.  And time was running out.
“Get a hold of yourself, kid,” I could hear Margot’s voice in my head saying, like she did when I first took her as a mentor.   “You’re powerful inside.  Never doubt that inside, you know things.  You know what you need to do.  Tap into what the universe is trying to tell you.  Ask for guidance, and just breathe through it.”
“Just breathe through it,” I mumbled to myself.
“What?”  Mika asked.  “Cosima, she’s trying to ring the line again.”
I cleared my throat, and sent out a silent plea for strength and wisdom beyond myself.
  “Put her through,” I said.

Released in December 2016.
Unit Song CD 2nd Series Vol.7: Valkyrie Cast Interview
Thank you Mike for your help with proofreading!
Song lyrics translations are up on wiki.
Tumblr media
Hiroki Takahashi (VA of Shu Itsuki)
Q: Firstly, please tell us about your impression on the songs when you first listened to them.
Takahashi: Before the recording, I had the opportunity to listen to other units’ songs. I was so surprised when I found such overwhelming difference in the atmosphere between Valkyrie and other units (laugh). It’s operatic, making you wonder if a musical is starting. It’s also something that would be performed at a concert hall rather than at a live house. I can see how this must be the leader’s, Shu’s so-called “highly dignified heartstrings.”
Q: Then how did the actual recording go?
Takahashi: While I sing, I think about how Bewitching Theater is a fiction that is created and completed within Shu’s outlook of the world, which is why it’s called a “theater”. I’d take great care of the logic that is present in the lyrics, and did it as if I’m intoxicated in an action movie. Actually, the director gave me a lot of instructions about that sort of thing. “With tenacity! Tenacity!” he said (laugh). Before the recording, I thought I had to sing more loudly, but turns out he meant more towards “being intoxicated.” As for Castle of Sand, Nazuna joined. However, if you ask me whether or not Nazuna is the focus, I’d say he isn’t. I came to the recording thinking it’s a song dedicated to Mademoiselle! (laugh) In Takahashi’s analysis, the part “light is shining” inside the “glass eyes” means “If what resides within a doll isn’t something that lasts virtually forever, but a finite soul instead, then I shall accept that!” I think it’s that kind of song!
Q: Please tell us the appeal of each song.
Takahashi: I’ve talked about Castle of Sand, so this time it’s Bewitching Theater (laugh). The lyrics in the chorus of this song follow a very proper logic, and I thought the repetition of keywords can deepen your experience. Although the parts “clockwork staircase”, “ascending and descending”, and “after endless searching” are changed at some point, I try to sing with strong feelings of how they may be going round and round, but as long as they don’t give up in what they pursue, they’ll reach it. The making may be close to Western songs. For example with Michael Jackson’s Bad, or the one from the movie Stand By Me—they keep singing the same lyrics in the chorus. But that’s why it’s memorable. Bewitching Theater is in Japanese, so it has different presentation, but it uses repetition of one phrase to make it more memorable. Which is why I felt there’s a very proper logic behind it.
Q: Ensemble Stars has been extending its reach through appearances in various kinds of media. Could you promote the series to the readers who have not yet been exposed to it?
Takahashi: I think Valkyrie is a unit like The Drifters during the time they did Hachiji dayo! Zenin Shugo [1] (laugh). In that show, they performed a new program at the theater every week and it was broadcast live! The leader, Chosuke Ikariya-san was super strict. So strict with every detail and in just one week they made a script, built it up and remembered it… so I heard the members had it really rough. I think Valkyrie is that kind of unit! Valkyrie’s leader has high ideals and is pursuing them, and there’s Mika-chan who would follow him. The young generation may find that difficult to comprehend, but that’s the impression I got from my point of view. If you ask me, I suppose I’d say Shu is a prodigy. He’s diligent, dexterous, and is very aware of his position as a leader. He’s a serious person, but he’s also haughty yet naïve. This duality reminds you of an artist. He’s a character with an extreme gap moe, I suppose. He can’t talk well to someone he hasn’t met before, but he’s aware that he needs to have communication skills, so he’ll converse through a doll called Mademoiselle.
Q: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the release!
Takahashi: The CD series is getting released, and I believe you’re looking forward to your favorite unit’s songs. But for all Valkyrie fans out there, thank you for waiting. The first Valkyrie unit songs are here. I think they are becoming something that won’t betray your expectations! I think you’ll probably know everything about this unit called Valkyrie once you listen to both songs, so please wait for the release while holding up high expectations.

1. The Drifters, Japenese comedy group and also a rock and roll band. Their iconic show, “Hachiji da yo! Zenin Shugo” or “It’s 8 o’clock! Everyone Gather ‘Round” is a comedy variety show aired in 1969-1985 and it was very popular with kids.
Jun Oosuka (VA of Mika Kagehira)
Q: Firstly, please tell us about your impression on the songs when you first listened to them.
Oosuka: Before I listened to the songs, I’d heard the group ALI PROJECT-san was going to compose the song, so my first reaction was surprise, like, what!? (laugh). I think the world pictured in ALI PROJECT-san’s song and Valkyrie’s outlook of the world match each other, but I felt pressured if I’ll be able to sing it. But, the song I received was so awesome… and I didn’t want to lose to that and told myself to rise up to the challenge. As for Castle of Sand, a scene from the event Reminiscence*End of the Marionette’s Strings came into mind. When I listened to it for the first time I cried for real! In my mind, Valkyrie sings Bewitching Theater for everyone, and as for Castle of Sand, Valkyrie members are singing with someone in mind. Whom they’re thinking of may be different, but my interpretation is that there is a common point where there is someone they’re thinking of while singing. With that in mind, I sang the song.
Q: Then how did the actual recording go?
Oosuka: In Bewitching Theater, there are these unique note suspensions. For example, in “kokui no ou” it doesn’t go “o→u→” but “o↓u↓↓” [1], something like that. There are so many parts that made me go, “Aah, so ALI PROJECT-san sings suspended notes like this!” But I also think it’s that way because it’s the original people, so I was also troubled with how I should express it. Oshi-san’s (Shu Itsuki) voice actor, Hiroki-san, sang it first, so as Mika and as myself I sang while thinking, “If Oshi-san interprets it like this, then I’ll follow,” and let Oshi-san take the lead. As for Castle of Sand, those who listen to Nazuna’s singing in Ra*bits may have mixed feelings. But on the other hand, I’m looking forward to the fans’ reaction when they listen to the past Nazuna. I was also the last one to record this song, and when I listened to all three of them singing, I thought I wanted the three of us to sing together a bit more. It has a different flavor from the singing with the two of us only, I and Oshi-san. I also like how the three are different in their own way as well. I think the three in Valkyrie are able to express it so well that it wouldn’t feel out of place to have this song played as background music in the story.
Q: Please tell us the appeal of each song.
Oosuka: My favorite is in Bewitching Theater, where Mika and Oshi-san are singing in turns: “Turn towards the eyes of the angel / who has cast God aside; / Yes – turn your eyes / towards me alone.” Supposedly, they’re holding a performance as though they’re telling the others, “Look at us and us only!”. It’s very Valkyrie and I like it (laugh). As for Castle of Sand, it would be the final chorus. There are parts where I overlap it with the story in Reminiscence*End of the Marionette’s Strings, and there’s this image in my mind: in a corner of the crafts clubroom, or perhaps in the place where Oshi-san and Mika live, Mado-nee is left there alone, and the days would pass... that kind of image. Also, by far I think this is the first time I gave so much thought into how I should control my breath. If my singing is a bit breathy, I thought it would fit the tone in the lyrics well. I hope those who listen will be able to tell where I’ve put my efforts in (laugh). This also applies to me, but Mika is a boy who wouldn’t make much difference whether or not he’s there. We’re alike in the way we’re extremely lacking in confidence! (laugh) If we’re told to do a thing, we’ll be desperate and do our best to complete that task. To Mika it would be, “Oshi-san says so.” To me it would be, “If Oshi-san says so, Mika will have to sing like so.” While singing, there were a lot of exchanges like that in my mind.
Q: Ensemble Stars has been extending its reach through appearances in various kinds of media. Could you promote the series to the readers who have not yet been exposed to it?
Oosuka: There are all kinds of units in Ensemble Stars!, but Valkyrie would be a unit where the relationship between the characters, Shu Itsuki and Mika Kagehira, and that between the cast, Hiroki Takahashi and Jun Oosuka, are similar. Actually, in the event where I got to work together with Hiroki-san, I was also following Hiroki-san’s flow (laugh). In the future, when there is another event or something, I wonder if the audience will be able to see Oshi-san and Mika-kun in the way I follow Hiroki Takahashi’s flow? Actually, the height differences between the characters and between us are pretty much the same, so it’ll overlap even visually (laugh). Putting it in a good way, Mika-kun is honest. Putting it in a bad way, he’s a foolish boy. But I guess the fans love that kind of fluffy part of his. To me, he feels like a handful younger brother.
Q: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the release!
Oosuka: It’s been half a year since Valkyrie’s first appearance, and finally we’re able to deliver their songs to you! For many times in the game it has been said that “Mika-kun is good at singing,” so to Oosuka the pressure he felt was really great… But I’ll leave the judgment to all of you listeners (laugh). Please enjoy listening to them! If an opportunity comes by where we’ll be able to sing in front of you all, I intend to sing with all I have, so please support Valkyrie and Mika Kagehira! And Oshi-san! And Hiroki Takahashi!! Please and thank you!

1. The arrows - I kept the original symbols here… I reckon they indicate note bends/intervals. → means straight notes, while ↓ means the notes go lower then lower.
Yuki Yonai (VA of Nazuna Nito)
Q: Firstly, please tell us about your impression when you first listened to Castle of Sand.
Yonai: I was happy when I was told I got to participate, but on the other hand, since I’m aware of the story, I knew I’d have to produce a clear voice that Shu would fall for, not the singing of Nazuna Nito from Ra*bits. When I realized that, I was at loss for what to do…! (laugh) I’m sure the fans are also wondering, but I was also thinking really hard about what kind of role Nazuna is shouldering, and how I should convey it. I think the music is really wonderful. It’s an atmosphere that Ra*bits definitely doesn’t have, and you can tell immediately from the music that it’s Valkyrie. It reminds you of the event Reminiscence*End of the Marionette’s Strings, doesn’t it? Around the final chorus, I sang while thinking “The three are going to go separate ways, huh…”
Q: Then how did the actual recording go?
Yonai: I was very committed into my singing. I’ve given the song a good listen and sung the higher octave as well, but I don’t know how it’ll be accepted. This may sound abstract, but I gave myself a challenge, “through singing, how well can I express the role of Valkyrie Nazuna?” It was difficult. But the actual story says things like how he sings at a higher register than he does in Ra*bits, and how his voice is clear. When I was thinking based on that, I also thought, “if I sing in my usual tone, it’ll just sound as if Nazuna is singing a bit more smoothly.” When I did that, I think the higher octave came out just fine… that’s how I practiced. Whether it’ll be used or not… please have a listen (laugh). Other than that, I was wondering about how much a child can project a high-pitched singing, so I watched a movie called Boychoir. In my research, I thought about how Nazuna’s voice must be close to this.
Q: Please tell us the appeal of Castle of Sand.
Yonai: The chorus is impactful, after all. For example, “The time falls away, like sand.” Valkyrie’s outlook of the world is squeezed into the chorus. You’ll be able to tell it’s Valkyrie’s song just by listening to the chorus. It’s also where the three of them are singing together, so I think it’s when every member is able to convey their own feeling.
Q: Please tell us about your impression on Valkyrie Nazuna.
Yonai: I had a vague feeling that he still had a story to tell, and after reading Reminiscence*End of the Marionette’s Strings, I didn’t think it would be this deep. For example conflicts he dealt with, or how he acknowledged there is present because people are able to overcome those conflicts… He experienced a lot of things in that story, and I see that’s what he’s carried on to the current Ra*bits. In my own way, I have been working with all my might to act as Ra*bits Nazuna, but when I think about the past Nazuna, I thought about how I have to face Nazuna head-on even more properly. Valkyrie Nazuna worked hard while keeping everything inside, or rather, often he didn’t show how he felt on the surface. So in this song I tried not to sing so emotionally, and I kept in mind about what Shu is asking from Nazuna.
Q: Please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the release!
Yonai: Fortunately or not, they chose me to voice the past Nazuna, so I gave it my all (laugh). I hope you’ll give us your support, imagining Valkyrie from that time and Valkyrie from now on along with Ra*bits.

I have been thinking for a hot minute about a number of dead gay writers who haunt me every day in spite of the fact that I’ve never read any of their work, and I posted about it elsewhere but I thought I would use this platform to really flesh out the details of it, because why not? It’s an interesting phenomenon. I think it’s interesting. Nobody’s forcing you to read it. Enjoy.
A.E. Housman
I believe my obsession with internationally renowned pop singer-songwriter Michael Holbrook Penniman, commonly referred to as MIKA, is well-documented. Thanks to his influence, I am now almost constantly thinking about A.E. Housman.
MIKA has a song entitled “Heroes,” which is a poignant piece of poetry about the treatment of war veterans, and the opening line goes, “the kids in their hundreds tomorrow will march through the door / they’re fighting someone else’s war.” And he explains on the commentary album that this line is based off the Housman poem “The Lads in Their Hundreds.” Before he said that, I had never heard of Housman, and now I’m always thinking about Housman, and I don’t really know why.
Also, the album that “Heroes” appears on is called The Origin of Love, and while I am not sure if this allusion was intentional, I am reminded of Tom Stoppard’s play The Invention of Love, which is about -- you guessed it -- the gay life of A.E. Housman. Everything comes full circle, and A.E. Housman is cackling in his grave at the fact that I cannot stop thinking about him.
Lord Byron
It is at this point that I need to specify that in this context by “gay” I mean “attracted to the same gender” and not “100% Grass Fed Homosexual” because applying modern sexuality labels is anachronistic blah blah blah and there is some contention about Byron and it seems pretty clear that he was bisexual but the point is: I know he liked dudes and I know his face haunts my every dream, even though I cannot even name a single thing he ever wrote.
The bottom line is he was very depressed and very pretty, and friends with Mary Shelley, and that really speaks to me for some reason. Regardless, I know next to nothing about him and I intend to keep it that way.
Although I’m fucking always thinking about this masterpiece from the Toast wherein Mallory Ortberg (my eternal savior) posits that “do you realize i’m never going to be able to have sex with the rain” and “i want to have a threesome with the moon and jealousy” are things Byron would say. It truly touched my soul and I have a deep connection with Lord Byron, or at least his fictionalized 21st-century text message persona, courtesy of Mallory Ortberg.
Christopher Marlowe
There is too much to say about Kit Marlowe. I first found out he existed when I watched the 1998 film Shakespeare in Love (cowritten by Tom Stoppard, of A.E. Housman fame, everything really does come full circle), in which he, in the span of two scenes, utterly rocked it. I then developed a deep affinity for him on a personal level, because why had I never heard of him before?
I love Shakespeare, I love Shakespeare so much, but it hurt my feelings that I had heard so much about Shakespeare and never ever had Kit Marlowe shoved down my throat in a high school English class. I then took it upon myself not to read any of his work, but rather to immediately google whether he and Shakespeare did it.
As far as I can tell, there is no firm consensus on this (meaning I could find literally not one thing on the subject, possibly because it never happened but also possibly because of a cover-up?), but there is substantial evidence that Marlowe was a gay, independent of any rumored relations with Will.i.am Shakespeare.
There is also some scholarly debate that says that Marlowe faked his death and proceeded to assume William Shakespeare as a pen name and they are in fact the same person, and while I don’t know if I believe it, it is the kind of conspiracy theory I can get behind.
Honorable Mention: Oscar Wilde
Wilde gets an honorable mention because he belonged properly on this list until very recently, when I bought his complete works and began reading them, specifically because he was haunting me so effectively. I’m only eight chapters into The Picture of Dorian Gray, and I’ve read exactly six of his poems, and that’s it.
Regardless, good old Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde, a beautiful man if ever there was one, a brilliant writer whose gravesite deserves many kisses, possibly my only friend in this cruel world, speaks to me in my dreams. This was another one brought to my attention by international man of mystery MIKA, specifically the song “Good Guys.” Although I had heard of Oscar Wilde many times, I had never thought of reading his work until this song came into my life.
The song laments the lack of good gay role models nowadays, and includes nods to several more dead gay writers who haunt me daily, but most prominently it has a catchy chorus containing the lyrics “If we are all the gutter, it doesn’t change who we are / cause some of us in the gutter are looking up at the stars,” which is a reference to a line in Wilde’s Lady Windermere’s Fan.
This one line in one song made me go absolutely rabid over Oscar Wilde immediately, possibly because of the very clear contextual allusion to gay hardship that MIKA threw at me, but I like to think it also has something to do with Wilde himself. Anyhow, eight chapters deep in Dorian Gray and I’m getting gayer by the second, so thanks, Oscar.
Also, similar to my experience with Kit Marlowe, I find myself hurt and confused at the fact that nobody ever urged me to read Oscar Wilde. It seems obvious now, like I should have been doing it my entire life, and while I knew he was fairly popular, nobody told me what he was about, and I believe that’s entirely on everyone but me.
The Dead Gay Writers list actually goes on for ages, but everybody else on the list haunts me in the sense that sometimes I’m minding my own business and their name pops into my head and I’m confused and gay for a second and then I go back to living my life. That makes for a much less interesting post, so I went with the top three and an honorable mention, for brevity’s sake, and I use the term “brevity” very loosely.

Ramblings: Steen Returns; Hagelin Traded; Hronek; Buchnevich; More – February 22
As expected, Nazem Kadri was not at game-day skate for the Leafs and did not play on Thursday night after suffering a concussion on Tuesday. Concussions are very fickle and it’s doubtful we get any sort of timeline on this. Owners will just have to be patient.
Kadri being out of the lineup led to William Nylander centering the third line with Andreas Johnsson and Connor Brown. Johnsson also took Kadri’s spot on the top PP unit. Johnsson, by the way, had 10 shots on goal in Toronto's 3-2 loss to Washington on Tuesday night. In his previous 10 games, he had 7 shots. Let's call this one an anomaly.
*
A little bit to my surprise, Devante Smith-Pelly made it through waivers and the Caps look like they’ll be able to hang on to him. As I mentioned yesterday, teams love guys with rings and he has one plus a cheap contract. Not to mention San Jose claiming Michael Haley and Nashville actually giving up a draft pick for Cody McLeod, neither player being as good as Smith-Pelly. Though I guess if hockey was predictable, it’d be boring.
*
With Alex Steen back in the Blues lineup, Robby Fabbri is again on the outside looking in, though he’s still in the lineup skating on the fourth trio. I still have a lot of faith in his talent, but the 2018-19 season is a lost cause for him.
Staying with the Blues, Jaden Schwartz replaced Brayden Schenn on the top line and Robert Thomas took Schwartz’s spot on the second line. This interesting because Schenn’s name has popped up in trade rumours this year, though not as much now that the team is winning. Maybe they’re still looking to move him? The official reasoning from the coach was an upper-body injury but taking what any coach (outside of Tortorella) says at face value at this (or nearly any) time of year isn’t advisable.
*
The Washington Capitals traded a third-round pick in 2019 and a conditional sixth in 2020 to Los Angeles for Carl Hagelin. Don’t even bother with him.
*
Brett Howden was in a non-contact jersey at the Rangers’ game-day skate as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. There is still no firm timeline for a return, but this is certainly a step in the right direction. He could have a much bigger role on this team in 4-5 days than he did a month ago.
*
Jayce Hawryluk was lined up on the second line for Florida on Thursday night with Mike Hoffman moving to the third line. It’s a move we’ve seen a few times this year and with the Panthers believing they’re in the playoff race, this isn’t a matter of simply giving a young guy a bigger role to see what they have, they think he can produce right now. Whether that’s misguided or not, we’ll see.
*
With the trade deadline quickly approaching, both in the NHL and in fantasy leagues, there’s one notion I want to discuss and that’s the idea of “overpaying.”
At the risk of sounding like a freshman college essay, the general definition of overpaying in the context of (fantasy) sports is paying above market value for an asset. In general, this idea of overpayment is more applicable in auction drafts, like paying $30 for a $20 player or whatever.
The problem with defining overpayment in terms of market value is the market isn’t always correct. It can often be incorrect. Incorrect market pricing is part of how bettors make money, for one thing. It’s also how we find values in fantasy leagues by taking advantage of ADP. Some people are afraid to take a player a few round ahead of their ADP despite the ADP not necessarily being reflective of their current, or potential, fantasy value.
It might sound simplistic but it’s where comparative evaluation is important. If you think Player A and Player B are going to be similar in production for the next six weeks, but Player B costs a top-75 player and a 2nd round pick while Player A available for just for a top-75 player, Player A is the obvious choice. The issue comes with the comparative analysis and being honest with yourself. Being able to de-couple a player being “your guy” from a player being undervalued is critical. If you lie to yourself about which category a player falls, you’re doomed.
With the looming deadline, I thought it’d be worth finding a couple undervalued players to grab right now.
  Filip Hronek
I have never been a fan of Jeff Blashill. His lineup decisions constantly baffle me (the blue line and power play especially), his treatment of talents like Andreas Athanasiou infuriate me, and the way he handles young guys has typically been underwhelming. However, of late, Jonathan Ericsson has been a healthy scratch and that has led to Hronek getting his way into the lineup. Not only into the lineup, but to the top PP unit, and a top PP unit that actually features their top players (Mantha, Larkin, Athansiou, Vanek) rather than the talent being spread across two units. This is wonderful news for Hronek’s fantasy value.
Hronek’s underlying numbers are very good. He leads the Red Wings blue line in both relative shot attempts for and relative shot share. That means Detroit controls more shots with Hronek on the ice than any other defenceman. In limited ice time together, Hronek has dragged Trevor Daley’s numbers to respectability (it’s still a tiny sample, it’s just a sign in the right direction). In a much bigger sample, he’s done the same with the now-scratched Jonathan Ericsson, which is another data point indicating that Hronek is a good defenceman.
One problem is that even if he maintains PP1 status, he might not crack the 20-minute mark per game with any regularity. That’s fine, though. Guys like him can still have fantasy value (just think of Will Butcher and Mikhail Sergachev from last year), though he’d be more valuable in points-only leagues.
Acquiring Hronek is a big gamble because Blashill’s moods change with the wind and he might be back in the press box a week from now. It’s a gamble worth taking given his current usage, though, in 12-team leagues or larger.
  Pavel Buchnevich
It seems very likely that Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes are both gone at the deadline. With Brett Howden on the mend, it seems he’s a likely candidate to take over for Hayes as the second line centre. Who replaces Zuccarello on the top line, though, is more uncertain.
Buchnevich has often found himself in the dog house, be it under the current coaching regime or Alain Vigneault. However, he’s been consistently lining up on the second line with Hayes of late and has responded with four points in his last four games.
Anyone who reads my Ramblings with regularity knows I think that Buchnevich hasn’t been given a fair shake and his consistency issues are overblown. My thoughts on this issue can be summarized as such:
would you believe me if I told you that the duo of Kreider and Zibanejad have been worse defensively over the last 2 1/2 seasons when they *don't* have Buch on their line than when they do? https://t.co/SjyTb3zZhP
— Michael Clifford (@SlimCliffy) January 29, 2019
It seems very plausible that if Zucc is traded, Buch takes his spot on the top line. It could go to someone like Jesper Fast I suppose but this team needs to see what it has in its young players post-deadline. It makes all the sense in the world for Buchnevich to join the top line and he can probably be had for a bag of peanuts. The time to acquire him would be right now and not after the deadline. If next Tuesday comes and then we find out Buchnevich is skating with Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad, it’ll be too late. Though, to be fair, if Kreider is traded as well, I’m not sure Buchnevich will amount to much. That adds to the gamble here.
*
In anticipation of the trade deadline, Ottawa sat all three of Matt Duchene, Mark Stone, and Ryan Dzingel. I know it’s the prudent move for the organization but I’d hate to have bought a ticket in hopes of seeing Ottawa’s top players. They should give more notice than 30 minutes prior to puck drop.
In a predictable result, New Jersey shutout Ottawa 4-0. Cory Schneider registered his first shutout since November of 2017 and has now won three consecutive games. It’s far too early to say he’s back to the old Cory Schneider, but if he is, his performance over the next six weeks could swing a lot of fantasy leagues.
*
The reason you hold players out is so they don’t get injured, like Rangers defenceman Adam McQuaid. He left in the first period and did not return. It wasn’t clear what the injury was, though the team would say he was held out afterwards for precautionary reasons.
*
Victor Hedman returned to the Tampa Bay lineup Thursday night after missing their last game. It’s a sigh of relief for himself, the team, and the fans.
*
Justin Williams had two goals and one assist in Carolina’s 4-3 win over Florida. Nino Niederreiter had a goal and an assist, giving him 15 points in 15 games in a Hurricanes uniform. He also now has as many goals (9) with Carolina as he did with Minnesota this season in 46 games. With each passing day, that trade is looking like more and more of a home run. Once Jordan Staal returns, this team should be feared in the East.
*
Brendan Gallagher marked his first career hat trick in Montreal’s 5-1 win over Philadelphia. That makes 26 goals for him on the season, five away from his career-best 31 last year. He’s such a good across-the-board fantasy contributor, averaging over 1.5 hits/3.5 shots per game with a good plus/minus.
*
With two first-period assists in Thursday night’s game against Pittsburgh, Brent Burns tied his career-high with 55 helpers. The single-season high by any defenceman post-2005 lockout is Erik Karlsson with 66 in 2015-16. That mark is well within reach with a quarter of the season left. Burns would add a goal late in the game for the three-point night.
*
Aleksander Barkov continued his torrid pace on Thursday night with a goal and an assist in Florida’s 3-2 win over Carolina. That gives him nine points in three games and has 15 points in 11 games since the All-Star Break. It appears the Panthers are making another late push, but it’s a wonder if it’s too little, too late yet again.
*
More updates in the morning.

Absolutely love this book!!! I've never really been a crafter... I've tried knitting and crocheting to fill up some of my free time, but it was all too tedious for me. I tried jewelry making, but that too got a bit boring. Until I stumbled upon traditional mosaics, which I absolutely loved because all the different projects that I could do.. it seemed endless. And what a delight to come across this book at my local Michael's!!! It seemed like a lot of work at first, creating and painting and stamping my own tiles... and sometimes one project does take time, but each tile is a work of art, each one different and unique and when it's all put together, it's really just amazing!!! It's an artform that is oddly beautiful. It can be kind of expensive buying all your tools but once you have them, you can make many different projects out of them. For example, different stamps, the acrylic paints, mica powders, polymer clay, most of these things I didn't have, but once you get your tools together, you can create lots of really amazing art pieces!!! I found the process of making my own tiles very easy and quite therapeutic. Love this book and would recommend it to all ages!!! Go to Amazon
Lovely What a humbling book. It's got beautiful projects inside, most of which seems doable if you can acquire the materials. I love how visual it is, though in some cases the instructions aren't aligned well with the visuals. Go to Amazon
Great book for Mosaics!! I checked this book out from the library and liked it so much I bought it. It is concise with both pictures and written instructions. It also has resources in the back. My only warning would be that it is mostly polymer clay. The projects are polymer clay with other materials added. If you are not looking for a mixed media book that is mostly polymer clay projects, then this is not for you. However, if you want to learn how to incorporate polymer clay into many projects, this is a great book to start with. Go to Amazon
I LOVED THIS BOOK!-even though it wasn't about what I thought. I ordered this book, even though I am not a "mosaic" person. The projects on the cover just looked so intriging and the title lead me to think that this would be a book about incorporating lots of different objects into mosaics- I think it was the 'and other embellishments' part. Since I do collage and mixed media art, I though this might be a new field to explore. Go to Amazon
was that terrific. I keep the book handy in case I ... Fabulous book. I went on to take a class from Laurie - wow, was that terrific. I keep the book handy in case I need to refer to it. It is very clear and perfect for someone who has never worked with polymer clay before - as well as providing inspiration for those who have moved on to more advanced techniques. You will not need another book on using polymer clay if you have this one. Go to Amazon
Not Your Kid's Clay- I am an art book junkie. I take a class then buy the book. Loved the author's workshop and had to buy her book. It is as if she were in my craft room, giving me all the techniques and hints on "how to." You can easily follow the pages of colorful instruction and create unique objects of great sophistication and meaning using the sculpy clay with mica colors and baked easily in your own oven. Highly recommend the book and the art of Laurie Mika. Go to Amazon
Inspiring I loved this book and am a huge fan of Laurie. I am an artist myself using the same mediums and selling work at fine art shows. I have even been compared to her because we do have uncanny similiarites in the stamps we use and style. I was doing my own tile boxes and wall art before I ever saw hers. The only downside I saw to the book is that there are many easier ways to do some of the techniques she talks about. I personally do use a pasta maker to roll my clay, the thin tiles work just fine,I use a water based acrylic varnish and before stamping images into the clay, I "paint" on a little baking soda to eliminate sticking. Otherwise the book was gorgeous and inspiring, I learned several new tricks, and is a great addition to my wonderful art book collection. Go to Amazon
visually delicious This book is so inspiring to my newly found interest in mosaic work. I'd never been particularly interested in mosaics, even though I have extensively explored many of the various components on their own...stained glass, beadwork, polymer clay...I just never thought to put all of them together in this kind of expression. Wow, how exciting to find another avenue. This book beautifully lays out techniques and visual guides to allow me to venture down this avenue. The colors and textures leap from the pages, and the techniques provided are very helpful. Thank you. I am so glad to have this book. Go to Amazon
a must have Her passion for art shines through Five Stars Awesome find. It is wonderfil book and i am happy that i order it Five Stars Must have for mixed medium and mosaic artists. Awesome Laurie Mika Four Stars

The Arrangement
TITLE: The Arrangement CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 3 AUTHOR: the-resal10 ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine being in an arranged marriage with Loki. You aren’t too unhappy about it, but he is and is at times rude to you. You two argue and bicker a lot before you both begin to fall in love.
Imagine you are marrying Loki. It was an arranged marriage and you are not too happy about it. Loki is quite happy as he has always secretly liked you. But he sees how unhappy you are and plays along. RATING: T NOTES/WARNINGS:
Chapter 3: The Visitor
Loki left the throne room after a talk with his parents. He passed a nearby window, stopping when he saw an unfamiliar face approaching the palace. The visitor stopped in place, opening his arms with a large smile on his face. Loki watched as Rosalind ran into his arms, he picked her up and spun her around in a hug.
Loki quickly made his way to the entrance of the palace. He stopped in his tracks when he saw Rosalind arm in arm with the visitor. The two laughed but stopped when they saw Loki standing alone. “Oh, Loki.” Rosalind said, pulling her arm away. “This is my friend, Michael.”
Mika flashed a smile, giving a quick bow, “Prince Loki, nice to meet you.”
“Hello.” He said, plainly.
“Mika came to visit me.” Rosalind smiled.
“You’ve only been gone for a month.” Loki pointed out.
“Yes, but it feels like forever.” Mika replied, looking down at her, “it isn’t the same without you.”
“Stop lying.” She chuckled.
“He’s not.” Loki murmured to himself.
“You don’t mind if I spend the day with Rosalind, do you? You both aren’t doing anything important today?” He asked Loki.
“No, but tomorrow we do.” He answered.
“I’ll see you till then, Loki.” Rosalind took Mika’s arm and led him down the hall.
Loki watched as the two happily made their way out of his sight.
“You’re getting married to him?” Mika asked when they were far from Loki.
“Yes. At the end of the month, we’ll be husband and wife.” She sighed, “something we both wish wouldn’t happen.”
“Woah, he doesn’t want to marry you too? He told you?”
“I overheard him talking to his brother about it. His brother, Thor, got married just last week and everyone was wondering when we’d get married, so we had to set a date.”
“Had to? Rosalind, just break it off.”
“Mika, you know I can’t. I can’t end this engagement because I don’t like it, I have to think about everyone else who will be affected by our separation. It’s not fair to bring harm to innocent people because of my selfish choices.”
He sighed, shaking his head, “you know, sometimes I wished you didn’t care so much, but it’s also one of the things I love about you.”
She smiled, taking his hand, “Come on. My chambers are nearby. We’ll be alone and out of sight.”
“Lead the way.” He smiled.
X
Mika quietly left Rosalind’s chambers after spending the entire day with her. She fell asleep after dinner together so he decided to explore the palace.
As he explored, he ran into Loki as he left the gardens. “Ah, Prince Loki. Funny running into you so late.”
“Yes. What are you doing up at midnight?”
“Oh, I couldn’t sleep so I decided to look around. This is a nice place here.”
“Yes.”
He sighed, “back at home, it’s just me and my small house. I’m a guard and I can afford a better home, but I’m saving the money for something better.”
“And what is that?”
“I’m not sure. Whatever the future holds, I guess.”
“Dating? Married?”
“No.” He lied and Loki knew it, “Not right now.”
“Oh.”
“Soon I hope.” He sighed again, “you’ll be marrying Rosalind soon. She told me by the end of the month, you’ll be married.”
“Yes.”
“Happy about it? I mean, Rosalind isn’t like any other girl out there. She’s very kind hearted, at the same time, she can be just as mean.”
“Is that so?”
“Yep.”
“And what exactly are you to her? I’m just asking because she’s never told me about you.”
“I’m like her best friend. When she left here and came back home, we became friends. We’ve been good friends ever since.”
“Hmm. Well, hopefully you can still be friends after I marry her. She will be the princess of Asgard after all and her schedule will be very busy.”
“If she could make time for me back at home, I’m sure she can make time for me when she becomes Princess.”
“Yes, well I wouldn’t count on it. Friends have no place in the royal family.” He continued down the hall, leaving Mika standing alone, watching him leave.
A few days went by, Rosalind was spending most of her time with Mika rather than Loki. She only saw and spoke to him one night at an event, then avoided him the next day and after. She and Mika never left her chambers, their breakfast and dinner was always brought to the room.
Loki began to worry about Rosalind. He obviously knew that she and Mika were more than friends, and he didn’t want anyone to find out. But what happened if someone did find out about them? Maybe the engagement would be broken and Loki could return back to a single life. What about Rosalind? She’d bring shame to her and her family, especially to her father but she could finally marry Mika.
He didn’t want that for her, though. He didn’t want her name ruined like that or her family’s. He didn’t know why he cared so much about this if he didn’t want to marry her. Maybe he does but just doesn’t want to admit it. It did make him furious to think that Mika was sleeping with his future wife.
Loki decided to talk to Rosalind about this so he went to her chambers. He knocked on the door and waited for an answer, but there was nothing. He knocked again then opened the door.
Mika and Rosalind were laying naked in bed, under the covers, Mika’s arm was wrapped around her with his eyes closed. Rosalind quickly sat up in bed, holding the covers to her chest, “Loki.”
He stepped back and closed the door, shocked. He stood outside the room, his hand still on the knob as he tried to let this process into his head then forget it.

Rosalind watched as Mika got dressed the next morning. “I feel terrible.”
He looked up, “Why? Because of last night? It’s Loki’s fault, why is he opening your door so late at night anyway?”
“Maybe he wanted to tell me something.”
“Well, it’s too bad he didn’t get to tell you.” He sat on the bed, putting on his boots. “Do you like him?”
“No. This entire time I’ve been complaining to you about him. I just feel bad because we’re getting married in a few weeks and he saw me with you in bed.”
“Rosalind, you don’t love this guy so why do you care?”
“I’m marrying the prince of Asgard, the possible future king of Asgard. I could be disowned by my father if anyone were to find out about us, my name could be ruined.”
“You still do it anyway.”
“Because I love you.”
He reached over, picking up her hands and pressing his lips on her knuckles. “I love you too. That’s why I asked for a guarding position here in Asgard.”
“What? When?”
“The first night I came to visit. I’ll know in two weeks and when I get the job I’m gonna move here to Asgard to be near you.”
“You’d leave everything back home to be here in Asgard?”
“There’s no one or nothing back at home waiting for me. Even if I don’t get the job, I’ve saved enough to at least move here and I’m gonna do it.”
“What about after the wedding? When I’m married.”
“We’ll meet in secret like we did back before you came here.” He cupped her face, “We’ll be together. If that’s what you want?”
“Of course that’s what I want.” She kissed him then hugged him.
Rosalind and Mika walked to the front of the palace and said their goodbyes. Once he was gone, Rosalind slowly walked back to her chambers and found Loki waiting for her in her room.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
“Where’s Mika?”
“He’s on his way back home. Look, I’m sorry about last night. Mika and I were just…”
“I don’t want to hear it.” He interrupted, clearly angry. “I could tell the Allfather about this, him and your father.”
“I know. I totally understand and don’t blame you if you do.”
“But I’m not going to.”
“What?”
“I rather keep this a secret than let this ruin your and your family’s lives.”
“Well… Thank you.”
“In return, the wedding is moved to the end of the week.”
“Are you serious?”
“Very serious. I’ve already informed my family so preparations are being made.” He walked past her, leaving the room after saying, “I suggest you inform yours right away.”

Yanni Gourde – Brayden Point – Tyler Johnson
At any point in the season, if you ask me who Tampa’s top scoring line is, I’ll go with the safe answer of the Kucherov-Stamkos line. But that answer doesn’t seem so safe anymore, as Gourde and Point continue to prove that their success last season was no fluke.
Yanni Gourde has been fantastic this season, with 17 points in 17 games. While I don’t think he’ll maintain a point-per-game pace throughout the season, I believe he can replicate last year’s 64-point total. His ice-time is up a minute and a half from last season, so maybe there’s potential for 70?
Brayden Point is one of the most talented players on a truly talented team in Tampa. Try saying that five times fast.  Already with 19 points in 17 games, I’m gonna go ahead and make a ‘bold’ prediction that Point finishes second in team scoring – behind only Nikita Kucherov. The 22-year-old definitely has the tools to be a point-per-game player in the NHL, but maybe 70-75 points is a more realistic expectation this season.
I don’t think Tyler Johnson will ever replicate his magic from 2014-2015 – during which he tallied 72 points in 77 games – but I do believe he’s a solid 55-point player with value in deeper leagues.
Considering they’ve been one of the hottest lines over the past 10 games, it’s no surprise that Gourde, Point, and Johnson have comfortably out-chanced their opponents (62 scoring chances for vs. 48 against). Unlike a lot of high-scoring lines that are mostly deployed in the offensive zone, this trio has an offensive zone faceoff percentage of just 39.68%. Since they’re relied upon at both ends of the ice, it seems logical that they don’t get separated once they hit that inevitable cold stretch.
As I was searching for highlights for this line, I typed ‘Point Gourde scores’ into YouTube. I want you to say, ‘point gourde scores’ out loud. Tell me that doesn’t sound like Steve Carell as Gru from Despicable Me, calling a basketball game (point guard haha). I’ll see myself out…

Pontus Aberg – Ryan Getzlaf – Rickard Rakell
During the past couple of seasons, a lot of Ducks have been sitting. But injuries aren’t the only reason Anaheim has struggled this season, off to a 7-8-3 start (2-6-2 in their last 10). I’m not sure if they’d have a single win without spectacular goaltending from John Gibson and Ryan Miller. They’ve been an extremely boring team to watch, and I hardly ever feel like their offense is threatening to score.
I know I spent the entirety of the above paragraph dumping on the Ducks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find fantasy value in Anaheim. Maybe I’m out of touch with prevailing hockey opinions, but I feel like nobody realizes just how good Ryan Getzlaf is. While everyone (myself included) complains about how many shots the team gives up, Getzlaf has quietly put up 11 points in 12 games. I’m such a huge fan of guys like Getzlaf and Rakell because they are the most offensively gifted players on a team with a great off-day schedule. While most teams play on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays during the week, you’ll rarely have to sit your Ducks, as 63% (highest in the league) of their games are played on Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Sunday. Now is a great time to buy low on Rickard Rakell, who I believe will improve on his current 54-point pace.
In terms of scoring chances, the Aberg-Getzlaf-Rakell line has allowed as many as they have generated. As I mentioned, the Ducks allow like a million shots a game, so it’s refreshing to see that this trio has a 55.68 Corsi for %. Pontus Aberg has been impressive for stretches this year, with five goals in 12 games. I don’t see him being someone you hold onto for the whole season, but he’s proven he can score every now and then. He definitely hasn’t secured a spot on the top line just yet.

    Notable Line Changes
Follow me on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza for the latest line combinations and injury updates!
Anders Lee – Mathew Barzal – Josh Bailey (Source)
Brock Nelson moves to a line with Jordan Eberle and Andrew Ladd.
Drake Caggiula – Connor McDavid – Leon Draisaitl (Source)
Interesting to see Ryan Nugent-Hopkins away from McDavid. Draisaitl has proven he can perform without McDavid, but we’re well aware of the magic they can create together.
Nick Schmaltz – Jonathan Toews – Patrick Kane (Source)
Don’t know how long this will last, but this hurts DeBrincat’s value in the short term as he is moved down to the third line (I type this as he scores against the Hurricanes). The Blackhawks are currently on an eight-game losing streak. So I expect the lines to be shuffled a bit more before they find a winning combination.
Jeff Skinner – Jack Eichel – Sam Reinhart (Source)
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Well, apparently Sabres’ coach Phil Housley doesn’t subscribe to that logic as he breaks up the hottest line in the league. Obviously, this is great news for Reinhart owners and awful news for Pominville owners. Sam Reinhart is still available in 57% of leagues, and should make a great addition to your roster.
Nikolay Goldobin – Elias Pettersson – Jake Virtanen (Source)
Shotgun Jake on the top line with rookie sensation Elias Pettersson! Virtanen – the sixth overall pick of the 2014 draft – already has seven goals in 19 games.
