Costume Party (Luke Patterson | Julie and the Phantoms)
Summary — There’s only one thing Luke wants to be for Halloween.
Warnings & Other Tags ➳ A cute, fluffy (and late) Halloween piece; Luke being jealous, touchy, and desperate for attention; references to sex (but no smut); Reader can see and touch the phantoms because I don’t care about the rules.
Notes ➳ Word Count is 809. ➳ Reader uses feminine pronouns (she/her) and dresses up as Morticia Addams for Halloween (with makeup). ➳ Is this late? Yes. Do I care? No. Halloween is over when I say it’s over. ➳ Inspired by this post.

Being a ghost on Halloween initially sounded like a dream come true. Luke had made big plans to scare young trick-or-treaters, haunt Bobby’s mansion for the millionth time, or maybe even fool you into watching some horror movies.
However, he found himself doing nothing but standing in a corner at some party with Reggie and Alex. While his two friends seemed to be enjoying themselves, Luke’s arms were crossed and his lips were downturned into a perpetual frown. His eyes followed you as you danced with some boring, overconfident ball player.
You were clad in a black dress and dark makeup. The dim lights made your skin glow. The joyful smile on your face was almost ethereal.
And yet, here he was, sulking, because he didn’t have your undivided attention for one night of the year.
Luke was the only one without a costume. Instead, he had gone with his usual outfit of distressed jeans and a t-shirt. He supposed it didn’t really matter since most people at the party couldn’t see him anyway.
“Why’re ya so down, partner?” asked Reggie, adjusting a cowboy hat that was far too big for him.
Luke furrowed his eyebrows at his friend’s usage of a fake southern accent. He spared a glance at Alex, who was dressed as a vampire. The drummer simply shrugged and shook his head.
“I’m not ‘down’ about anything, Reg,” muttered Luke.
“Alex,” grinned Reggie, turning the blond, “why don’t ya help me understand what this cold-hearted snake is tryin’ to tell me?”
“Only if you stop talking like that,” scoffed Alex, and then he paused for a moment as Reggie raised his hands in surrender. “Luke is mad because he thought he’d get lucky tonight—”
“What?! That’s not true!” shrieked Luke. “I mean, I wouldn’t mind, but that’s not what this is about at all!”
“Oh, yeah, you’re right,” nodded Alex. “It’s because you’re jealous.”
“Okay,” scoffed Luke, growing more and more tired of the conversation. “I’m not jealous. I just... wanted to spend some time with her. Is that so terrible?”
“If that’s really what you wanted,” smirked Reggie, “then now is your chance.”
Luke’s attention snapped to the dancing crowd. You had left behind the ball player, who was now dancing with both Julie and Flynn.
Alex and Reggie shared an exasperated glance with one another when Luke quickly ditched them to follow you into the kitchen. Your back was turned to him as you poured yourself a drink. With a wide smile, Luke covered your eyes before he whispered, “Guess who, cara mia.”
You rolled your eyes, pushed away his hands, and laughed, “Very funny, Patterson.”
Luke’s hands fell to your hips. His chin came to rest on your shoulder and a pout made its appearance on his lips. Gently swaying, he said, “You make a great Morticia.”
“Be careful, Gomez,” you said, eyes still not meeting his as you step out of his hold to get some snacks. “If you keep talking to me like that, people might start getting ideas about us.”
The words fell out of his mouth before he could stop them.
“What’s so bad about that?”
You paused, holding a bag of chips in your hands and staring down at your paper plate. A small smile made its way onto your face. Luke always seemed to make comments like that. And every time, he’d shock you into an unexpected, flustered silence.
Turning to him, you held out the plate of snacks for him to share and quickly changed the subject, “Why didn’t you dress up? I’m pretty sure you’re the only one who isn’t wearing a costume.”
“I dressed up!” scoffed Luke.
He flushed when you ate a chip, looking him over with a judgmental expression, “As what?”
“A rock star,” he grinned, eyes widening dramatically as he moved to stand by your side and lean against the counter. “Besides, what does it matter? They can’t see me anyway.”
“Well, if they could see you,” you began, “what would you wanna be for Halloween?”
“Your boyfriend.”
Your eyes snapped from your plate to look at him. You had expected him to be staring back at you with that wide, amused smile of his, but it was nowhere to be seen. Instead, you were met with anxious eyes and Luke’s teeth biting his lower lip.
You quirked your lips, trying your best to contain your oncoming smile. Looking around the kitchen to avoid his gaze, you quietly muttered, “I think you’re already wearing that costume.”
Luke felt a grin spread across his face. His gaze followed your movements as you set aside your plate. You then disappeared out the back door of the house. As soon as you gave a motion for him to come along, he complied, checking over his shoulder to make sure there wouldn’t be any interruptions.

One day, I'll publish the entire one-shot. Until then, here's a snippet. Can you guess the movie it's inspired by?
☆.。.:・°☆.。.:・°☆.。.:・°☆.。.:・°☆
Magic, as it turns out, comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes even in the form of a black journal. It’s a songwriting journal and her only way to communicate with Luke, a boy she’s never met yet to whom she feels inexplicably connected.
Julie pauses, reevaluating her thoughts. As she does, she looks around. The room is a mess. Heaps of discarded clothes litter the floor, the desk is cluttered with trinkets and crumpled candy bar wrappers, and the walls are plastered with glossy posters, all of them sporting the same type of grungy rock bands with ripped clothes, wild hairstyles, and scowls on their faces.
Then, she looks down, inspecting her hands, which are larger than she’s used to. Paler, too. The fingers are splotched with ink. Their nails are clipped short, and their tips are permanently marred with callouses.
The hands of a songwriter.
The hands of a guitar player.
Luke’s hands.
Okay, maybe their connection is not as inexplicable as she initially stated, given she’s currently inhabiting Luke’s body.
She shakes her - Luke’s - head and turns her attention back to the notebook. A smile tugs at her lips. Giddiness runs through her - Luke’s - body.
With precious little ceremony, she flips the journal open and leaves through it until she reaches the section reserved for their conversations.
A new message, written in Luke’s questionable penmanship, is already awaiting her.
I landed you a date.
The pen she’s been holding slips out of her fingers, rolling over the edge of the bed. Cursing, Julie dives after it, her fingers curling around it before it hits the ground. When she sits upright again, a second sentence has formed on the page.
With Nick.
She almost drops the pen again. Hastily, she unscrews the cap.
Your creepy friend said—
Julie rams the tip down on the page, almost tearing the paper of the journal they use to communicate.
Her name is Flynn, and she’s not creepy!
She adds multiple exclamation marks and even underlines the sentence for emphasis. Luke, however, remains undeterred.
She gives me the creeps, he counters. And that’s not the point.
He’s right. His fear of Flynn, while not entirely unreasonable, isn’t the point. But it is useful information. Julie files it away for later.
She said you’ve had a crush on Nick for forever. So when he asked you out—
Nick did what?!
— I said that I, which means you, might be able to squeeze him in tomorrow after school.
Julie’s eyes bulge. Scratch Nick. Luke has done what?! So much for keeping a low profile. If clawing her way through the notebook to strangle him was an option, she’d seriously consider it.
You’re welcome. Frankly, no clue why you’re so into him. He’s cute; I give him that. But he’s so lame. Julie can almost hear Luke’s exasperated whine.
Nick’s NOT LAME! He’s—
She hesitates, unsure what to reply.
Kind? Athletic? A good guy?
Julie cringes. Even to her ears, that sounds phenomenally pathetic. Brows knitted together, she thinks feverishly about Nick’s positive traits only to realize how little she knows about Nick beyond …
—a fantastic guitar player.
Which still isn’t the quippy comeback she aimed for but is enough to distract Luke.
Passable, at best.
Julie snickers. Obsessive music nerds are so predictable. She knows that; she’s one herself.
Have you ever heard him play?
Have you ever heard ME play? Luke teases with all the bravado of a cocky teenage boy getting challenged in his field of expertise.
In fact, Julie has. A few weeks ago, she found his demo, and, well, curiosity killed the cat. He is good – maybe better than Nick; Julie is willing to admit that. But she’ll never say it out loud. Or write it down - whatever. Luke would be unbearable.

Julie: I really like this whole 'good guy, bad guy' thing you guys have going on.
Flynn: It's not an act, I'm just mean and Reggie isn't.
Julie, coming to that realisation: oh yeah you right my bad.

OMG ALL THOSE PROMPTS ARE SO GOOD (and I finally caught one of your lists before it's six days old lol). Laying on the floor so hard you wish they’d invent lying down 2 is an Alex Mood to me.
Maybe the chairs on the ceiling were less of a stylistic choice and more of a storage thing. After all that one was hung fairly low and if Alex knocked it, it would swing. Threatening to fall right on top of him.
He didn’t really like the thought of that. But it always occurred to him every time he caught even the slightest glimpse of the polished wood hanging from the ceiling.
Perhaps he has a death wish since Alex was now laying on the studio floor below them. The steepled ceiling, fairy lights, and new potted plants hanging closer to the ceiling added a surreal level he wasn't really expecting.
Is this what Alice in Wonderland felt like falling down that hole? All disoriented and floaty?
Which, honestly, he really shouldn’t be feeling all floaty like this. Not with how itchy this particular patch of carpet is. Another train of thought he would really rather not venture down, but is unstoppable now.
Why was it itchy? He knows it gets regularly cleaned out here. It’s on the rotating cleaning roster. Though considering the last three individuals who were in charge of it were Reggie, Luke, and Carlos and Alex isn’t sure if any of them would have even considered the rugs.
“Comfy?” Flynn’s voice came out of nowhere, quickly followed by her face leaning over his. Upside down. Her braids reach out towards him. That does not help him stop feeling like Alice.
“Not really.” Alex says simply. Focus split between talking to her, keeping his breathing steady, and not spiraling into one of the many chasms his brain felt the need to create for no damn reason.
Flynn hums noncommittally before disappearing from his view. Though she doesn’t go far, he can hear her settling on the floor next to him. “There are better places to lay down.”
“I am aware.”
“Do you like feeling uncomfortable?”
He can’t help the huff from his throat. He doesn’t like it, no. He can’t ever seem to escape it, just has to settle for which discomfort was more acceptable and today that means, “It’s quieter here.”
“Wow.” Flynn says through a disbelieving laugh. “What kind of chaos are they up to if the studio is the quiet option?”
Alex shrugs though he’s not sure if she can see it. “Don’t know about now but when I left, Carlos was unsuccessfully showing Luke something called Guitar Hero, and Reggie had been ranting for nearly an hour about how the Star Wars on the Disney app thing was completely wrong.”
Flynn quietly giggles, “Where was Julie in all this?”
An uneasy heaviness twists in Alex’s chest with the question. Or rather with the answer he gives, “She and Ray went to the Wilson’s.”
“Ah,” Flynn thankfully leaves the topic there. “This is the weirdest ceiling to lay under.”
“Right? Like, do you know why they hung the chairs on the ceiling?”
“Not really,” Flynn says but doesn’t really sound sure herself. “But is it weird that I want to see if there are weirder ceilings out there?”
It’s the first train of thought in a while Alex feels sort of willing to wander down. “How would we do that?”
“Dear sweet Alex,” The statement and her haughty tone both make him slightly regret his decision. “That is what Google is for.”
“Okay, please never call me that again.”
“Happily.”
He finally sat up and could finally see Flynn laying down on the floor. Her head next to where his was but feet pointing in the opposite direction.
She smiles up at him, “Want to go see what we can find?”
“Yeah, all right.” He says with another shrug, following her to the couch. Tries to keep the thought splintering in check as he watches her use her phone in ways he’d only ever seen in sci-fi until a few months ago.
Admittedly, there are definitely some bizarre ceilings out in the world. But the Molina’s seem to be the only ones they can find so far who have chosen to mount chairs to theirs.

Ooh, Juke podcasters AU?
Tumblr media
Alright, I went back and forth on this for literal ages, but it is high time I actually post something so, I hope you like it! Happy Juke Jeudi! Also lol RIP me trying to write a summary, failing spectacularly and instead ending up with over 700 words of a relatively solid outline for a fic I'll probably never find time to write 🙃
A kinda-sorta-enemies-to-lovers with a classic misunderstanding and of course a HEA (that isn't really well thought out, but couldn't sit in my drafts any longer!)
Julie Molina doesn't really play music anymore since her mom died, but she does listen to it and talk about it at great length on her very popular podcast she started back in her junior year of college after a very interesting elective on the topic
Now, she's a bit of a celebrity in her own right, as episodes of her show, "The Studio" (where she reviews listener-submitted songs from up-and-coming bands in college towns all across America) reach thousands of listeners every week
Luke Patterson listens to music, talks about music and, of course, plays music in his band, Sunset Curve, with his two best friends Alex Mercer and Reggie Peters (they did have a fourth band member, Bobby Shaw, but that ended rather abruptly when Bobby decided he'd rather have a solo career with Sunset Curve's most popular songs)
Now, Sunset Curve is on the edge of celebrity - a rather stressful recon mission ensured Bobby no longer had access to their music (and no, they won't be telling that story anytime soon) - and they're calling in all of their favours to get a showcase slot at the famed venue, The Orpheum
(click to continue reading my rambling below the cut)
Luke has been working on the booking manager, Caleb, for weeks and he's finally agreed to book them a slot in two week's time...assuming they can sell half of the tickets for the show themselves by the time the doors open the night of the show [Alex has anxiously done the math on that and it works out to about 1300 tickets if Caleb expects them to sell the place out (he immediately had to do his breathing exercises after having that realization)]
Luckily, the two optimists in the band have a plan - submit their best song (along with a little plug about their show) to "The Studio", get a rave review, profit (read: sell a thousand tickets in less than 14 days)
Unbeknownst to the current members of the band, there is a reason why Sunset Curve has never been featured on "The Studio" before, despite being submitted a handful of times by local listeners
Back in freshman year, Julie went on an ill-fated blind date set up by her well-meaning but ultimately misguided roommate, with her cousin, one Bobby Shaw (it wasn't that Bobby wasn't a nice guy, but he talked mostly about his music with his band and when they passed a street piano on the way to the theatre, she accidentally let slip that she used to play music and he was like a dog with a bone and when she refused to show him what she could do, he got a little too bold - she had stormed away soon after, walking the 12 blocks back to campus blinking back tears) - hence her distaste towards the band
Now, Luke is nothing if not determined, so here we insert a chapter or two of him weaselling his way into "accidental" run-ins with Julie (maybe he figures out a mutual connection? - Willie knows Flynn knows Julie) who doesn't realize immediately who he is, but they obviously vibe
Once Julie figures out the connection there is a smidgen of hurt feelings and explanations and apologies, but eventually she is persuaded to feature them on her next episode (and even goes so far as to have the band in the studio to plead their case)
Lo' and behold! They sell the allotted tickets and the show goes off without a hitch - Julie is in attendance, only slightly begrudgingly having been dragged along by Flynn and Willie
She is obviously immediately smitten (more than she already was) by Luke's stage presence and also the way he winks at her during the bridge to Now or Never (listen, she's only human okay??)
Their set wraps up and there are congratulations all around and an invitation for post-show pizza and there are more vibes and some not-so-subtle suggestions from both Flynn and Reggie about chemistry and oozing that Julie and Luke are both trying very hard to ignore while they enjoy their pizza
Luke volunteers to walk Julie home since she lives a couple blocks over (there is jeering and a few not-so-subtle nudges from Reggie, a very serious stare-down along with a threatening "text me as soon as you're home safe" from Flynn)
The walk home is relatively quiet, when they get to her door Luke confesses he hopes he didn't mess this whole thing up by trying to get the band on her show, he'd really like to see her again, etc.. Julie assures him that he didn't..and he can see her again. There is a cute Juke kiss and ta da! The End.

your dark fantasy/fae au is so fucking cool and I’m going to be thinking about it forever now. I just wanted you to know. that’s all, have a wonderful day <33
Hard same, anon! Have some more headcanons.
-Willie has 100% crashed while skateboarding, walked home with an obviously broken arm, and gone about his day because he still had chores and you have to work through the pain that's just what you do, right?
-NO, and Ray spends a very panicked ride to the ER.
-At least Willie is delighted with his cast and the human tradition of your friends writing and drawing on it. Julie draws a little butterfly for him and he's just delighted.
-The boys all sleep in one room in a giant puppy pile. Ray offered them separate beds but they all looked so betrayed he just... made sure they had enough blankets and pillows instead.
-After the bird funeral, Willie is concerned because Ray's garden is not that big and there are a lot of people in this house and apparently death comes for everyone and he is relieved to learn humans have special gardens for human dead people called cemeteries.
The next time they drive past one on their way to Carlos' baseball game, Willie presses his nose to the car window and informs everyone: "There's dead people in there."
It is quiet in the car (Carlos makes sure to note they can put the 'x days since Willie said something weird' back to 0) before Julie is like: you're not wrong?
-Luke is trying desperately to figure out if in The Modern Era he still needs to ask Ray's permission to Court Julie. After doing a lot of research watching the telly-vision, he concludes he does not, he needs to get Flynn's approval because she is The Bestie.
-Flynn is like: to court Julie you must first complete these quests.
-Reggie would put a stop to it but honestly it's keeping Luke out of trouble when he has to write a song, and fetch Flynn seven sodas, and come catch and release the spider in her room (he brings Willie who politely asks the spider to stay on the other side of her window) and perform Feats Of Strength (help Flynn rearrange her furniture).
-Julie finds out and puts a stop to it of course but to be fair she really likes the song and was very flustered at sweaty Luke in his cut-off t-shirt so... she can't be too mad at Flynn.
(More mature and ridiculous headcanons behind the cut.)
-When the equinox approaches, Willie gets a little distressed. Because Ray hasn't done any preparations. Where are the wines and grapes and cured meats? The honey cakes? The pixie pears? Ray who have you invited? What about the music? What about the revelries, Ray? Are you going to get the couches deep cleaned after the orgies or do you have special soft blankets to cover them?
-Ray goes from mildly confused to very distressed, especially when Willie is like: is that not why you have so many couches???
-What follows is a very distressing day for Ray as he tries to figure out if the boys have sexual abuse trauma on top of the whole 'kidnapped by magical beings' and 'hunted for sport' and 'enslaved to perform for the fairy's amusement' trauma.
-They do not, but just to be sure he has a talk with them about consent and safe sex.
-Willie staring at Ray like: "What do you mean protection? Do humans attack each other during sex? Alex, you never told me this." Luke is trying to calm Ray down like: it's okay Alex and Willie can't get pregnant they don't need to pull out unless they want to. Reggie is coming to the frightening realisation that he is the normal one and has to be the mature one. He is also very, very sorry, Ray. There were just... so many orgies. Or maybe just a few long, long orgies. Time was weird. You get kind of desensitised to it all.
-Willie understanding that Consent is like the magic spell that makes sex okay and starts just asking Alex: Consent? And Alex goes 'okay!' and they happily skip off together.
(Julie: I am traumatised. Reggie: Yeah well blame your dad.)
-Not Reggie quietly pining as he sees Julie and Luke get closer and Willie and Alex carefree and in love and he's just over here... trying not to think of exactly what happened at those orgies and how suddenly he's the one left behind and alone.

I don't know what that means!
Peterpatterlina
Since Julie refused to skip school for band practice (lame) the boys had to find a way to amuse themselves. As such, they decided to catch up on all they had missed in the past twenty five years. Alex had Willie for that, making sure he understood all the new slang as well as the joys of be gay, do crime.
Luke and Reggie stuck to watching things. They started with Star Wars, the series that brought them together as kids, sneaking in to see the original trilogy when they were probably too young to do so. They were less enthused about the rest of the films, but did enjoy the live action shows that Carlos insisted they watch.
From there, they started watching movies and shows old and new alike, though sometimes they had to pause and get context for historical events and memes.
Eventually they figured they should watch Friends-Flynn told them that it had aged badly, and though they might have fond memories of the first season, the rest was not as good.
But hey, it killed time right?
(Even though Flynn was right and they both agreed that Ross sucked and Chandler was not nearly as appreciated as he should be)
"Do you think lobsters actually mate for life?" Luke asked as they sat through a clip show.
"I think wolves do?" Reggie offered. "Why the sudden interest in the mating habits of crustaceans?"
"It was the thing Phoebe said, about Rachel being Ross' lobster. I think I want that-someone for the rest of my life. Afterlife. Whatever."
Reggie gave a sly grin. "You mean Julie?"
Luke bit his lip, a faint blush tinting his cheeks. "Maybe. But... not just her."
Reggie looked at Luke then, not daring to get his hopes up. He knew how he felt about Luke, and how it had changed since their little chemistry experiment. How he also felt about Julie, a deep well of love that he could never speak of. He had buried his feelings deep, figuring he had no hopes in either harbour and had resigned himself with an afterlife of loneliness and pining from the sidelines.
"R-really?" he finally choked out. "Who else?"
"I think you know man."
"I want to hear you say it."
"It's you Reg," Luke said, cupping his cheek. "It's always been you I think. But it's her too."
"Me too," Reggie rasped out, whatever else he was going to say being swallowed in a kiss that was blistering, messy, and perfect, just like the person giving it to him.
"Oh."
They broke apart, turning to see a devastated looking Julie in the doorway to the studio.
"I'll just... let you two get back to it."
"No Julie wait!" Luke yelled, rushing to catch her. "It's...complicated."
"Looked pretty simple to me."
Luke looked at Reggie frantic who gave him a despairing, look and a shrug, not know what they could say or do to make this better. Then he burst out, "You're our lobster!"
"I don't know what that means!" Julie retorted, her face screwing up in anger.
"Can we explain it?" Reggie asked quietly.
Julie softened then, nodding, letting herself be guided to the chair, hands folded awaiting their explanation.
"Have you ever watched Friends?" Luke asked.
"No," Julie shook her head. "Flynn has and told me it's not worth my time, so I never bothered with that particular cultural touchstone."
Reggie took it upon himself to explain the reference they were making, and then looked at her. "So... we want you to be our lobster."
Julie looked at them both then. "Lobsters don't mate for life, sorry."
The boys faces fell then, until Julie took their hands in hers. "But wolves do. As well as a bunch of other animals. Even more have poly relationships. So maybe we can find the species to suit us?"
Reggie and Luke nodded vigorously, pulling her into an embrace, and though research was tempting they asked Julie for a suggestion for a show she loved they could watch together.
Even if they spent more time making out than actually watching Buffy.

Luke Patterson x Alive!Reader Series
Tumblr media
Summary: After getting an afternoon free from the band, Luke decides to see his parents, only to find out something he wasn’t expecting.
A/N: To the very few of you still reading… this is for you <3
WC: 4.1K
SERIES MASTER
Part 4: You’ve got yourself a deal
---
Saturdays. Your favorite day of the week. You used to look forward to it because it was the one day a week you’d have to yourself but lately that’s been changing and your dad hasn’t been around much any of the other days in the week. Alone once again, you pull the blanket tighter under your chin, ready to for a few more hours of peace and quiet while you sleep-
Oh. Julie just texted you.
Girls day! You in?
You sigh, feeling the urge to sleep longer too powerful to resist, and yet a girls day with Julie and Flynn sounds perfect. Tossing the blanket away from your body, you send Julie another message saying you’ll be at her house in 30 minutes.
---
It’s been almost a month since you’ve moved to Los Angeles and you’ve been to Julie’s house quite a few times since you’ve first met so you didn’t bother knocking on the front door when you got there. Instead, you opted for heading right to the garage in the back and to your surprise, you could hear music from inside. You try knocking on the door, but after a minute of doing so and causing your knuckles to ache quite a bit, you sigh, chew your lip for a moment before slowly pushing the door open. You didn’t see Julie anywhere, but you do see three boys at three different instruments. It only took you a second more of watching before you realize that they were the boys from Julie’s hologram band.
The realization causes you to pause. Julie’s holograms were even more amazing up close. The way they looked at each other and took up the exact right amount of space, it was almost like they were in the room with you.
You lean against the door, listening happily to the sound pouring through the speakers before you accidentally slip, sending a few things falling off the shelf next to you.
The commotion causes the band to stop playing as they all look your direction. “Girl!” The bassist shouts, pointing directly at you.
You freeze, feeling three set of eyes on you. “Hi.” You wave meekly before clearing your throat, letting your eyes drift across the three boys. “Oh, um, sorry I didn’t mean to interrupt, I was just looking for-“
“Y/N!” Your head snaps behind you, relieved when you see Julie and Flynn
“Julie! Flynn!"
Julie's eyes go right past you when she finally steps into the room, realizing pretty quickly that all of the boys were still here. It's silent between the six of you as you wait for anyone to say... well, anything. Julie finally comes to your aid as she clears her throat and throws an arm around your shoulder to point you in the direction of her band. "Um, Y/N, you remember my band, right?"
You look at her, wondering what the hell she was getting at. "Uh, yeah. Yeah, I do." you say before leaning in close to her, hoping the guys can't hear you. "I thought they were holograms. Swedish holograms?"
Julie sucks in a breath and nods with a smile, obviously trying to think of something to say before she turns to Flynn behind you for help.
"They're just visiting!" Flynn blurts out and the moment the rest of the room understands what she had said, nods and hums of agreement went around everyone.
It was weird. You weren't sure you believed them, considering how odd everyone was acting in this very moment, but as you thought hard for any other excuse, nothing else seemed as feasible as the three of them visiting. When your shoulders relax, so does everyone elses in the room.
"Well, it's nice to finally meet you guys." You say to the boys, smiling at them and recieving two smiles back while the third boy, whose guitar slacked out of his hands, just stared at you in what felt like disbelief.
Julie points to the bassist who pointed at you earlier. "That's Reggie," then she moves to the blond drummer, "Alex," when she moves to the third boy, Julie pauses and narrows her eyes, seeming to catch onto his weird expression, "and that's Lu-"
Before she can finish her sentence, the boy is leaping over the table between you two with the biggest, and in your opinion, cutest smile you have ever seen. "Luke!" He shouts before he's finally in front of you, looking you directly in your eyes as he sticks his hand out. "I-I'm Luke."
You stare at him for only a few seconds before you slip your hand into his.
The last few minutes have taken Luke by surprise. He knew that Julie wanted to have a girls day today, which was why she 'banished' the boys to the garage. He has been waiting for the chance to finally meet you in face to face since you showed up to your first Julie and the Phantoms gig and Luke learned you were friends with Julie. Now, Luke was going through way to many emotions in this very second because you were here. You were right here in front of him and you were looking at him, not off to the side just enough to constantly remind him that you couldn't see him. And even better, he could finally touch you. You actually held his hand.
Luke knew that it didn't matter whatever happened after this because this moment, this moment was his and yours.
You only let go of Luke's hand when Julie clears her throat again, glaring at Luke, but he was too preoccupied in staring at you to notice.
"Right." Julie says, steering you away from the boys, "Well, we have plans. So, we should go?" She turns to Flynn as if it's a question and Flynn nods, saying 'we should go'.
"Nice to meet you, Y/N!" Alex calls, peaking out from behind Luke's head in your vision as you send a smile his way.
"Nice to meet you guys too!" You say before letting your eyes fall on a grinning Luke before you're led away by Julie. Luke watches you leave, seeing you outside of your house was weird, but he's never really seen you as happy as you were here, with your friends.
He's still staring out the door when he hears Alex and Reggie join his side.
"Whatcha staring at?" Alex's voice right next to his ear causes Luke's smile to fall quickly as he jumps high in the air.
He narrows his eyes at his friend. "Nothing." He grumbles.
Alex and Reggie shares two knowing looks but say nothing as Luke moves back to the rehearsal space, strumming a few different chords on his guitar, but no matter how hard he tries, he can't really focus on playing music when he knows what it feels like to finally really look into your eyes.
---
Julie, Flynn, and you end up at an ice cream shop on the beach. The three of you had sat there together long enough for your ice creams to be completely eaten, yet not long enough for the conversation to be gone.
"So Y/N, you've been here for a month now," Flynn begins raising her brows at you repeatedly as you thrum your fingers against the table, waiting for her to continue, "anyone tickle your fancy?"
You hold back a chuckle, not missing the weird look Julie is throwing her way. "Tickle my fancy?"
"Oh shut up," She rolls her eyes as Julie and you both laugh at her, "You know what I'm getting at!"
"No, Flynn," you manage to say between chuckles, "No one has tickled my fancy."
You can tell neither Julie or Flynn believe you as they share knowing looks, but you don't know what else to say. Instead, you change the conversation to something you've been wondering non-stop for the last month. "Do you guys believe in ghosts?"
It almost scares you how quiet Julie and Flynn get as they look quickly to each other and then to you before leaning in at the exact same time. "Why do you ask?" Julie says.
You shrug, looking down to the table in front of you. "It's just-" You pause, unsure what to say before shaking your head. "Nothing. No reason."
The three of you are quiet for the first time in over an hour before Flynn chooses to break the silence, turning your own back on you. "Do you believe in ghosts?"
You hesitate before letting out a quick huff and scrunching your face together momentarily. "If I answer that, you guys are going to think I'm crazy."
"Well, we already think you're nutso, so crazy is an upgrade, right?"
Julie smacks Flynn's arm for her comment and Flynn frowns, rubbing the spot and silently shrugging to Julie, as if to say 'what was I supposed to say'.
For a moment, you consider dropping the conversation completely, but the thought is out of your head the moment you open your mouth. "The day I moved in, I went down to dinner with my dad and I came back to my phone plugged in." You can tell your comment has the girls confused as you sigh. "I just threw it on my bed before I left."
"Well, that doesn't mean-"
"I asked." I rub the back of your neck as you interrupt Julie, thinking the girls don't believe you at all. If only you knew it was the opposite.
"You..." Flynn trails off for a moment before taking a deep breath, "You asked?"
Nodding nervously, you tap your fingers harder against the table, wishing you knew what your friends were thinking about you. “I kind of called out and asked if anyone was there, thinking I went, you know-“
“Crazy?” Julie adds with a smirk.
You meet her eyes with a sigh and whisper, “I believe I used the word insane.”
It was at that moment, you realize how close around the table you were to each other, as you if you telling the world's most special secret. Recognizing this, the three of you can't help but laugh together and lean back in your seats, relaxing a bit from the prior conversation.
Flynn looks back up to you and then to Julie next to her, then back to you. "Well?" She says to you and you furrow your brows, trying to figure out what she's asking. "Did you get an answer?"
You stare at her and Julie before a small smile breaks out on your face and you have to look away, choosing to look out the window to your right. "His name is Jerry." Having been looking away from the girls in front of you, you don't see them exchange looks of disbelief in the fact you might not actually be insane. You turn back to look at them the moment they turn to look at you, putting on their best fake smiles. “It’s not his real name, but I can’t see him or hear him and I just picked out random names for him until he liked one.”
You wait for them to say anything, but they remain silent, and so thinking they don't fully believe you yet, you go on. “I was having a hard day the other day. I failed two tests that morning and then fought with my dad when I got home." You suck in a breath and both Julie's and Flynn's smiles drop already having know about your troubles with your parents. "I left that night to go to another one of your shows and when I came back, there were sunflowers sitting in a vase that I keep on my desk."
"Sunflowers?" Julie asks and you can't help but smile to yourself.
"They're uh," you let out a breathy chuckle, "They're my favorite type of flower. There used to be this sunflower field where I used to live and I would spend all day just running through it." Besides your friends, who for the past month have has still had very little conversation with you, the sunflower field was something you've missed the most. "Jerry was the only person in LA that I've told about the field. Not even my dad really knows about that." You know your dad doesn't know your favorite flower, hell, he barely knows anything about you.
"Jerry got you flowers?" Julie can't help the smile on her face as you nod, knowing those very same flowers are still sitting on your desk.
"So, I guess you could say that Jerry tickles your fancy?" Your smile drops as you glare at Flynn, very unimpressed with her at the moment.
"Shut up." You grumble, but your smile finds a way to return, tugging your lips up despite you working hard to keep it hidden. "And stop saying that, it’s weird. Besides, Jerry doe not tickle my fancy. He's just my friend. My ghost best friend."
"Best friend?!" Julie exclaims, dropping her mouth open in fake offense as she slings an arm around Flynn who was wearing a matching expression. "What about us!"
You laugh at them, shaking your head. "I said ghost best friend! You guys are my living best friends."
Julie and Flynn high five before Flynn points at you. "And it better stay that way." She fake threatens and you roll your eyes, knowing it would definitely stay that way.
---
By the time girls day is over, you were too exhausted to head back home and Julie suggests you and Flynn stay the night. Knowing that your dad wouldn't really care if you spent the night at Julie's, you shoot him a text to let him know where you were.
It was half past 2 in the morning when you wake up, finding yourself way too thirsty to go back to sleep. Creeping as quietly as you could, you head out of Julie's room and into the kitchen to get a glass of water.
You were in the middle of pouring your glass when you hear a voice calling out hello from the door of the kitchen. The suddenness of the voice, of which you still had no idea who it belonged to, causes you to jump and the glass of water you were holding spills heavily on the counter in front of you.
"Shit!" You hiss, trying to keep more from spilling out. Before you can reach out for a towel, someone is standing next to you with one in their hand already soaking up the water. You look up, only to see the dark brown eyes you met briefly this afternoon. "Um, Thanks... Luke." you say, helping him clean up the water as best you can. You don't miss the way his eyes flash over to you or the way his lips upturn slightly.
"It's no problem." He tells you, shaking his head as his hair falls in front of his face. "It was my fault mostly. Should've given you more warning when I enter a room."
"Yeah, next time, I expect fan fare." you say and Luke chuckles, moving to lean against the counter next to you. You find yourself smiling at bit at his laughs as you finish cleaning up.
"So, couldn't sleep?" Luke asks and you shrug.
"Got thirsty so I came down for a drink." You hold up the glass. "Didn't expect to spill half of it though."
"Hey," Luke defends himself, "at least it was just water."
You tip your glass to agree with him before taking a sip. Luke watches you but when you finally put the glass down to see him again, he turns away. "What about you? Couldn't sleep?" Luke shakes his head. To be honest, sleep isn't really a thing ghosts need. Even when he could finally be seen and heard by other people and feel as alive as he feels lately, sleep has just never really become a need for him. "Is it the timezones?" You ask him, breaking him out of his thinking as he furrows his brows.
"Timezones?" He questions, having no clue what you're talking about.
You furrow your brows. "From Sweden to LA."
Luke's eyes widen. He completely forgot about the swedish hologram band lie. "Yeah!" He shouts a little louder than he meant to and the both of your eyes widen and look to the stairs to see if anyone is going to come down. When the coast is clear, you both relax. "Sorry, I just meant, uh... yeah, the timezones."
You nod, chuckling under your breath before jumping up to sit on the counter behind you, Luke does the same, sitting on the counter just across from you. "So..." you say, unsure of what to say exactly. "You're in Julie's band."
"Well, she actually joined our band." Luke corrected you and you raise your brow, telling him to explain. "My friends and I, we had a band called Sunset Curve and then Julie joined and we became 'Julie and the Phantoms'." You can tell by the smile on his face that the band meant a lot to him.
"How long have you been playing?"
He takes a big breath, letting it out slowly before answering. "Since I was kid. My parents bought me a guitar and since then, I knew music was what I wanted to do."
"It's nice your parents supported you." You smile at him but he doesn't return the gesture, only looking down as he plays with his hands. That's when you realize you've made a mistake. "I'm sorry." You whisper, kicking your foot out gently to nudge against his.
He shrugs, nudging your foot back. "Don't be. I wasn't going to let it stop me."
You hum. "Let me guess, secret band rehearsals and telling your parents it was a club at school?"
Luke laughs lightly at your joke. "Actually, I moved out- well, I ran away."
There was silence between you two as you simply looked at each other, knocking your feet together every few seconds.
"Do you ever regret it?" You didn't know how much you needed to know the answer to this question. It was a thought that came to you all too many times in the last few years, especially as your parents fighting and troubles seemed to escalate.
Luke doesn't look away from you, even as your gaze drops momentarily as you collect yourself. He doesn't need to think hard on this question, it's something he's thought about dead and alive. "Everyday." He tells you and for the first time since your little foot game started, your foot doesn't bump his.
You had an answer, and yet, you weren't sure if it was the answer you wanted or the answer you dreaded.
Luke takes a deep breath and lets it out with a hum. "Wow, did it get sad in here?" You chuckle and nod a bit, quickly wiping your face to cover the tears that were about to fall.
"Oh god, I should probably get back upstairs before Julie and Flynn wake up for water or the restroom and see I'm not there." You grumble, throwing a glance behind you, but before you could stop yourself, you smirk and look back to Luke. You shouldn't have been surprised to see him smirking as well. "Or..."
"You can stay down here and we can talk?" Luke knows what he would prefer. Talking to you like this, without the guise of Jerry where he can only talk through his chicken scratch, is much more preferred. Besides, just like earlier, you were looking at him and hitting your foot against his.
"Alright, you've got yourself a deal." Luke smiles happily. "I'll stay down here and talk with you, but you have to get me more water." You've barely got the sentence out of your lips before Luke jumps off the counter and takes your glass, already on his way to fill it up. "I guess that's a yes." You giggle and look at him, still seeing that smile on his face, despite facing away from you.
The flutter of butterflies in your stomach when Luke's fingers brush against yours when he gives you the water was not surprising.
---
"That's all I'm going to say about it!" Luke holds up his hands in defense. You cover your mouth with your hand, bumping your shoulder against his as you laugh.
"No!" you manage to say. "Please! You can't just say that and then tell me you're not going to say more!" You beg him but Luke has his hands folded over his chest and his smile points away from you as you put your hand on his arm. "Please? I need to hear more about how you thought you were going the book club advisors number only to get turned down." You can't help it if some of your words weren't quite understandable through your laughs. In your defense, Luke and you have been swapping funny stories for what seemed like hours now and as Luke's blush had rose to his cheeks before he told this latest story, you knew it was going to be a good one.
"I thought she was into me!"
"She said you reminded her of her son!"
"She wasn't old enough to have a son!"
"You said she was in her 40's!"
"Well, she looked like she was in her 20's!"
"Early 20s or late?" You raise a brow at him and Luke already knows he's not doing so well in these arguments.
Luke shakes his head, avoiding looking at you in case you both start laughing again. "Yeah, well, at least I didn't trip and fall in front of my crush in gym class."
"No, you just called the teacher 'mom' in front of yours." Luke turns to look at you, his smile wide as he prepares to say whats next on his mind, but he goes blank when he sees how close you were to him. Not that it was either of your faults, it was just natural for you both to have gotten closer together over the course of the night.
You stay in this position, once again just simply looking at each other, before you clear your throat and look away, making Luke wish more than anything you'd look back at him. "I should uh, I should really get back upstairs. Julie and Flynn should be awake soon." You glance out the kitchen window, seeing the sun make its way over the horizon before you look back at Luke. He hadn't moved from his last position, but you weren't sure what to do. So, you jump off the counter, taking his hand gently and giving it a little squeeze as he finally moves.
"I liked talking to you." He says as your hand slips out of his, just barely before he's grabbing it again.
"I liked talking to you too." You tell him. The two of you give each other one last smile before you let go of his hand and head for the stairs.
Luke watches you every step of the way until you disappear.
---
As your back hits your own bed later that day, you cover your face with a pillow and let out the loudest groan you can muster. Julie and Flynn didn't suspect you having been gone for most of the night, or if they did, then they didn't say anything which you doubted from the two of them. Now, not only were you exhausted from having being up all night, you couldn't get a certain someone's laugh out of your head, or the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles, or how when you're talking you know he's really listening to you. Honestly, you weren't sure if you were exhausted from yesterday and being up all night, or it was from trying to figure out what all these feeling towards Luke meant exactly. It wasn't like you could do anything about them. He's from Sweden and he'll have to go back there eventually since Flynn said they were just visiting. And you don't really do long distance. Long distance sounds… lonely. And you were already lonely enough.
You stay in that position, with your pillow pressing against your face for a few more minutes. When you finally pull it off, the first thing you see is your bedroom light flickering between on and off.
When it stops, you sigh heavily. “Jerry?” You call out, looking towards the light switch and the light turns back off then back on. “I think I messed up.” The light changes slower as you lay back again the headboard of your bed, staring off into space. “I think… I think I have a crush.”
Luke’s heart stops.

Remember like....oh god four months ago??? When @look-at-those-niceass-rocks and I had some unhinged things to say about Julie and the Phantoms? Well, our schedules finally lined up again and we have more unhinged things to say! Once again nearly a week after we watched!!! We made it through 4-7, please enjoy
Bee: Y'know, when he (Trevor) said "meditate", I expected him to get tweaked out of his fucking gourd Me: ...Ah, first thing for the quotes list Bee: He looks like he doesn't vaccinate his children
*two minutes of haunting later* Bee: No I've changed my mind; he has to be high, he's not reacting correctly to that
We both commented on how Savannah Lee May (Carrie) looked simultaneously fourteen and thirty, but was 20 when the show released (around 19 during filming)
Me: How does it feel knowing she's a year older than me? Bee: *forcibly remembering we have an age gap friendship* I love it soooooooo much
Caleb: where do we go when that final light is snuffed out? Bee: Hell, I hope
Caleb: If you'll forgive me fellas, I gotta go pay the bills, if you know what I'm saying Bee: if he wasn't dead, I'd assume he meant cocaine Me: I mean it could still be cocaine Bee: ...ghost cocaine
Bee: homosexual ghost makes a valid point
Me: I love how women weren't working so he (Caleb) sent men to Alex Bee: I know what you are! Me: He's an equal opportunity cult leader!
Julie: *Lecturing the boys on letting her down* Me: No she's right Bee: Yeah, let her cook! Me: *dead silence* Bee: That's. That is what the kids say? Me: Sometimes I forget about our age gap, and sometimes I become painfully aware of it Bee: I'M DOING MY BEST OKAY
(after deciding to stop for the night after episode seven) Me: That'll give us a good stopping point, because the last two episode Hurt Bee: Oh good, emotional trauma!
(about Ray Molina) Bee: Look at his forearms, he's a slut! Me: I mean, yeah! Also, I blame you fully for this newfound type of mine (muffled voice in the background) Bee: [Husband] just yelled from the other room asking if I was alright
Willie: *gets caught spying in the garage* Bee: That wasn't even sneaky! That was his whole-ass head! With a helmet! Me: Not the ass head Bee: Motherfucker Me: Weird way to say butt face Bee: ...ass butt
Me: Flynn is really pushing this corpse thing Bee: I wish I could remember my little corpse song
(following "Girls, amiright?" "No!") Bee: He a little confused, but he got the spirit Me: He is a spirit! Bee: Fuck you Me: :(
Me: That was his (Jeremy Shada's) actual reaction, because that little kissy thing was unscripted Bee: Oh I believe that, I just watched all thoughts leave his brain
(honorable mention: rewatching that scene at least three times to laugh at Reggie's face)
Luke: (singing) It's never straight-
Us, simultaneously: Me neither

one giving the other their jacket / covering them with it when they fall asleep + Rulie
Also tagging @innytoes, who asked for the same prompt!
Reggie shoulders his way through the sorority house with his heart hammering in his ears. It could be the bass—but he wouldn't bet on it.
The cacophony had started when he'd realized that Julie wasn't with Flynn.
He finally spies her wild mass of curls between the banisters of the stairs and leaps over the couple sitting at the bottom, deaf to their indignant cries.
Some hulking asshole is leaning right up in her face, all but pinning her to the wall, but her eyes slide over to Reggie before anyone can do something stupid, and she visibly melts with relief.
"Reggie!"
As soon as the asshole crowding her turns around, she stumbles past him and crashes right into Reggie’s chest, tucking her head under his chin and her arms into his jacket. Reggie's arms come around her easily, automatically, and she sighs, snuggling into him.
"Figures," the asshole mumbles, shoulder checking them as he passes for good measure, which makes Julie whimper and Reggie grit his teeth.
He rubs Julie's back, where he's met with warm skin because she's wearing a cute, strappy little black tank top.
Which he isn't going to think too hard about because he's better than that asshole, Julie's more than her body—
And her well-being is the priority.
"Julie, are you okay? Did he hurt you?"
"No," she mumbles into his shirt, and he's suddenly ready to do something really stupid, like punch that guy to death, when she adds, "I mean…yes. I'm fine, not…hurt. Just. Gross feeling."
"Do you want me to take you home?"
She makes a sad sound, nuzzling her nose into the curve of his neck.
He has to suppress a shiver, especially as her lips brush against his throat.
"Take me to your place? I don't…wanna be alone. Please?"
"Of course," he says softly, pressing his lips to the top of her head, which usually makes her grin and giggle.
Julie's an affectionate drunk—when she's with her friends. Giggly and sweet, and he hates that she's not laughing, that some asshole ruined this evening, that experience, for her.
She does let out a little contented sigh, though, lolling her head back to hit him with the full force of her puppy-dog eyes, which are warm and wide and—
Just—lethal levels of adorable.
"Reggie…carry me?"
He knows that one of the guys is going to see, and they're all going to give him more shit than they already do, call him out on being whipped for a girl he hasn't even bothered confessing to—
But it's not Reggie’s fault that it's never the right time. Especially not now, when she's drunk and feeling gross.
Reggie hums. "If that's what you want."
So she clings to him like a koala, and he keeps his arms secure around her back, glad that it does make her giggle.
To him, that's way more important than any of the weird looks they get.
With some difficulty—mostly stemming from the fact that she doesn't want to let go, even in the slightest—he manages to get her out of the house, down the block, and into his truck.
She wriggles in the seat as he clicks the seatbelt in, pouting at him expectantly all the while.
He laughs quietly. "What?"
"You're out there and not up here."
Understanding makes him flush.
"I can't climb in the seat with you."
"Why?" She pouts harder. "It's cold."
"I know. But I have to drive, Jules."
And she looks so crushed that he's quick to add—
"We're not going far, though. We can cuddle all you like at my place, okay?"
A smile slowly spreads over her face.
"Hmm…okay."
He closes her door as softly as he can and goes around to hop in on the driver's side. He lets the engine idle for a moment, wishing he could put the heat on, but it's never not busted.
By the time he glances over at Julie, she's curled up in the seat, drowsing.
He slides out of his jacket, debates sniffing it, decides that would be weird, prays it doesn't smell bad—
And drapes it carefully over Julie's balled up form, heart hammering again.
She sighs and snuggles into it, much like she had when she'd run right into his arms, and he melts at the sight.
God, but she's so fucking cute.
He ends up carrying her into his apartment, too—in for a penny, in for a pound, as his grandpa always says—but when he tries to take the jacket away to give her a proper blanket, she refuses to give it up.
"Mine," she says sleepily. "Don't…"
He brushes some curls out of her face, smiling as she nuzzles into his hand.
"You can't keep it forever, Jules."
"But you gave it to me…mine, now."
As with everything else, he's quick to acquiesce, but he does make sure she has some proper blankets nearby—just in case—before he grabs one for himself and makes up the couch.
And after that night—
She never really gives his jacket back, first holding it hostage to make the time to confess, then stealing it from him every opportunity that she gets, but it and his heart are both happily hers.

Juke au request:
where sunset curve is famous, julie carrie and flynn are backup dancers for this big epic gig and Luke sees julie right there on the spot onstage
👀
I got that vivid idea last night I can't write if my life so I asked someone else to write it but they don't write fir that ship it would mean a lot to me to see this fleshed out
hello! sorry i don’t really do requests anymore cause i’m nowhere near as motivated to write jatp fics, but here’s how i think this could pan out:
ok so julie being a backup dancer feels a little ooc for me in the way that i think she should always be the star of whatever she’s doing — and that although luke would be intrigued to see her cause she’s very Pretty, it wouldn’t be enough to fully captivate him. they both bonded over music and it’s how he fell for her so deeply
SO
my idea is that julie finds herself being a backup dancer with flynn and carrie because it was her only way to keep her promise: she still can’t bring herself to sing again after her mom’s death but rose made her promise to always be involved with music, to always have it in her life. so julie does the next best thing: she chooses to dance - she’s still surrounded by music all the time, it’s just slightly different to what she’s used to: she doesn’t sing
and maybe. maybe at this event/gig/festival that both luke and julie find themselves in, that’s where they first meet. i’m thinking that perhaps luke coincidentally walks past her backstage at some point before their performance and hears her hum a song (maybe one of theirs? maybe one by rose and the petal pushers?) and it peaks his interest cause 1. it’s his song (or a song by a legend called rose molina and he doesn’t often hear people listening to rose and the petal pushers) and 2. cause even with just the soft humming he can hear the quality of this girl’s voice
but before he can backtrack and approach her, maybe talk to her about music, he gets called over for sound check and then it’s just a busy day and he kind of forgets/lets it go
that is until later on when he sees the same girl dancing on stage and is a little surprised she isn’t the one singing — and shit, he also notices that she’s kinda cute too.
he’s Intrigued even more at this point. because he thinks he saw her look a little happier humming to a song backstage than she does dancing her heart out onstage
and now he wants to know more
cue him looking her up on instagram, and reggie and alex rolling their eyes at him. cue him going way back down her old posts until he stumbles on the earliest ones on her insta and it’s a short clip of her…singing
like singing singing. and now he’s sat there on their tour bus, mouth hanging open and heart beating in his throat because holy shit this is the most beautiful voice he’s ever hear
so he shoots his shot….and DMs her 👀

For the physical intimacy prompts - Resting your head in your partner's lap. Only if you feel like it! <3
(I WAS ALMOST IN BED. I ALMOST WAS UNDER THE COVERS AND THEN THIS SAID “NO. GO WRITE THE JUKE. GO WRITE FOR THE JEUDI.” AND THEN I DID)
Writing has always been Julie’s way of addressing her feelings. The ones she is sure of tend to make their way to her notebook, or Luke’s, but it’s the ones she is unsure of, that she’s testing the waters on what words are best to describe how she feels, that find their way to her dream box. And recently, she’s been having... thoughts. Ones she’s not sure of. Ones that definitely cannot find their way into a notebook a certain band-mate might see. She’s feeling pretty confident that allowing the words to stew for a few days in her dream box, settle into her bones, will bring her clarity. She just has to trust the process.
It’s as she’s folding the scrap of paper and reaching up to grab the box that she glimpses lights on down in the studio. That’s odd because she knows she turned them off when the band called it quits for the day, having to get home for family dinners and do homework for the next day. Glancing at the clock, she sees it’s after 10:30, way past curfew for any of them on a school night.
It’s probably nothing. She grabs her phone and heads out of her bedroom. There is no reason to suspect that someone has broken in. Lots of people have access to the studio, the guys are constantly in and out of the building. She probably just missed a text or something. She taps on the screen of her phone to check. Nothing. Okay, so maybe it’s not one of the guys but that doesn’t mean that it’s anyone dangerous! Maybe a homeless person wandered in, all she’d have to do is ask them politely to leave. It’s really probably not a thief. Oh god, but what if it was?! There is a lot of expensive equipment in there. And the whole neighborhood knows! It’s not like they’ve tried to hide the fact that the band practices there. By now, she’s made it to the bottom of the stairs and maybe she should just grab the bat out of Carlos’ baseball bag. Just as a precaution.
After she steps out of the house and closes the door gently behind her, she calls Flynn.
“Hey, Underachiever! The calculus homework giving you problems? Eyy? Get it? Problems?”
“Flynn!” Julie whisper shouts as she starts creeping along the path around the house. “There is someone in the studio!”
“Wha- Call someone then!”
“I called you!”
“Jules, I mean like the cops or something! What good is it calling me?”
“I’m not going to call the cops,” Julie argues. “What if it’s one of the guys? Besides, if anything happens, you’ll know right away and can call the cops then!”
She can feel the unimpressed stare she knows Flynn would be giving her if she could. She slowly unlatches the gate and slips through.
“You better not be saying that you are going in. Alone. We have watched too many horror movies to be doing something that stupid, Julie!”
“I have a baseball bat!” Julie winces. That sounded a lot more helpful in her head. “Everything will be fine, Flynn. Calling you was just a precaution.”
The moonlight glints off something wedged between the retaining wall and the trash bins. She keeps low as she speed walks over to investigate, Flynn’s voice going into detail on how bad a plan this is. A bike leans against the wall. One she recognizes for the Blink-182 and New Found Glory stickers near the handlebars.
Standing up straight, she interrupts Flynn. “It’s Luke... I gotta go. I’ll see you tomorrow.” She hangs up before Flynn can respond and tucks her phone into the pocket on the front of her hoodie. Cracking the studios door open isn’t as quiet as she hopes and Luke is already jumping up from the couch and approaching the piano, his back to her, by the time the gap is large enough to walk through.
“Luke? What are you doing here?” Her voice only holds curiosity but she can see how stiffly he’s holding his whole body. One of his hands moves up to his face but he doesn’t turn to face her. Something is wrong. She slowly drifts closer. His hand drops down onto the lid of the piano before he responds with a tight,
“Ah, sorry. I didn’t mean to disturb anyone.”
“Is everything okay?” She takes another step towards him. And another.
“Y-yeah.” It sounds like his voice is getting caught in his throat with the word. “Ev-everything’s fine.”
Julie’s right behind him now and he’s still facing away from her. She reaches out and gently grabs onto his forearm, lightly pulling him to turn towards her. There’s the barest resistance before he gives in, shoulders slumping. Red rimmed eyes meet hers and her heart is breaking for him. For whatever situation is causing his eyes to brim with tears and breathe in a quiet sob.
“I didn’t have anywhere else to go,” he shakily lets out before it becomes too much and the tears begin to fall.
His body shakes as the tears become rivers, flowing down his cheeks, dripping off his chin. Julie doesn’t let go of his arm and pulls him back over to the couch, pushing him to sit down. She moves to sit down next to him, leaving more space between them than ever had before, just for a moment. Because then she tugging on his bicep to get him to lay down, head resting against the soft fleece of her pajama pants. She doesn’t know the cause of his pain but she will do everything she can to comfort him through it.
“Shhh. You’re okay,” she says quietly, running her fingers through his hair. Brushing it back from his forehead. Lightly scraping her nails against his scalp. Over and over she does this as he cries, her pajamas becoming damp. She holds him with her other hand, and she whispers the words her mom would whisper to her when it was Julie that needed comforting. As his sobs begin to fade and the sniffles increase, he reaches up and grabs her hand and clutches it against his chest. It’s then that Julie determines that the words she put in her dream box earlier were truth. She loves Luke. And while right now is not the time to confess those feelings, nothing is stopping her from showing them by continuing to comfort him.
His breathing slows down and the sniffles stop, and Julie can’t stop herself from leaning down and brushing her lips against his forehead as sleep takes him.

17 and Fleggie??
every time we lie awake
flynn taylor has never had a normal-person sleep schedule, and her schedule as a dj doesn't really help matters. weddings, parties, clubs; she's all work and no play and sleeps in the middle of the day because that's the grind, baby.
so she's always up late, and there's this guy--well, she assumes it's a guy; his tumblr username is nerfherderhero and she's pretty sure she's seen some posts referencing his pronouns--who seems to have the same late-night schedule she does; he's always reblogging funny dog videos on her dash at just the right time and adding amazing tags to star wars posts (she still hasn't stopped laughing about him calling kylo ren "evil emo mayonnaise")
they have this funny little tumblr mutual relationship--the thing is, they have so much in common; he's always posting cool music for her to explore (she adds a LOT to her playlists, it's awesome) and he reblogs every artistic photo of food she uploads. (she has a whole series of ironic portraits of the stuff she orders from in-n-out; it's pretty hilarious if she does say so herself.)
they chat through tags. nerfherder is so off-the-wall funny; he says the most random things and flynn fucking loves it. he also has excellent taste in music.
julie starts giving her A Look whenever flynn mentions "my tumblr friend".
whatever! flynn is allowed to have friends she doesn't like. Know Personally. that's what the internet is for!
except there comes a two-week stretch where nerfherderhero kind of goes quiet. flynn even checks to make sure he didn't change his username but that's not it--he's just. not posting at the moment. no queue, no reblogs. her artistically-arranged chili dog photo goes un-noticed.
it's fine. flynn is Fine About It. he's probably just busy!
it's just rough because julie is also away, on tour with her new band--she met this group of dudes at college and has been spending all of her time writing songs with the guitarist (writing songs. suuuure, says flynn, and julie sticks her tongue out on their facetime call.)
flynn taylor has never been a coward, though (well, much of a coward) so she takes that terrifying internet friend plunge and pulls up a direct message.
hey--this is awkward but uh. hi! i just i just noticed that you're not around as much anymore which is totally your right obviously good for you for digitally detoxing lol i just--i miss you
she doesn't add the exclamation point even though it would make her seem more unaffected.
because the thing is: she's affected.
carrie laughs at her when she brings it up at brunch. it's not actually a mean laugh, despite it being carrie.
"only you would manage to crush on someone you don't even talk to," she says, sipping her passionfruit mimosa.
"better than when i had a crush on you," flynn retorts, but carrie just laughs again.
it all comes to a head when she facetimes julie late one night after a dj gig. she's wired, and there are no posts from Han Solo (which is unfortunately what flynn is now calling him in her head), and she just wants to mope with her best friend.
"oh, god, not you too," julie says. "reggie's all whiny because he broke his phone and we're in the middle of nowhere right now, so there aren't many places to go to fix it or get a new one. he's miserable. he keeps asking to borrow our phones to log into tumblr, of all things. something about his friend rapunzel."
"what."
flynn's username is remixingrapunzel bc she's flynn and she's a dj and also her braids are really long.
"yeah, he's like totally obsessed with her. them? i'm...not actually sure."
"her."
and julie's forehead wrinkles on her phone screen.
"how do you know?"
"um."
and the whole thing comes spilling out. han solo, funny captions on her in-n-out fries, the humiliating "i miss you" message that was never returned.
julie's eyes just keep getting wider.
"hang on," she says, and turns to yell over her shoulder. "reggie!"
there's a scuffle and julie hissing "come ON" and a long sigh, and then, sitting with julie, is the cutest boy flynn has ever seen in her actual life. he's got dark hair and nice freckles and right now he seems kind of sad, but oh my god, he's so so cute.
she can't help herself.
"nerfherder?" she says, tentatively.
his eyes lighten and it almost makes up for the last two weeks of misery.
"rapunzel," he breathes, and flynn has a feeling there are even more late nights in her future.
she's more than fine with that.

"It's not that I don't believe in love, I just don't think it's for me." for whatever character you want to make aromantic, because that is what this prompt screams to me.
Carrie was only moderately surprised to find Luke hidden away in a back corner of the library, hunched over a notebook looking like he was trying to focus on what he was working on. She’d seen him too many times now when he actually was in writing mode and could tell he wasn’t. Far too stiff, pencil twirling too much in his hand.
“Hey,” Carrie said as she sat down at the table across from him. He merely grunted, “You know your friends are trying to find you, right?”
“That why you’re here?” He muttered around a disinterested laugh that got Carrie bristling.
“Yes it is. You’ve got Julie and Reggie so upset that Flynn and Alex are both torn about if they want to kill you.”
Luke groaned as he dropped his head into his hands, roughly combing through his hair. “I didn’t mean to worry them.”
“Then maybe answer your phone.” Carrie said and didn’t hide her own derisive sigh as he frantically dug through his pockets and apparently coming up empty.
“Honestly.” Carrie quietly said as she sent off texts on his behalf letting everyone know she’d found him, though she kept his whereabouts secret for now. “So any reason you’re hiding?”
He hesitated, pencil twirling in his fingers again. “Amber asked me out.”
“Wait.” Carrie blinked at the space above Luke’s head, vaguely recalling Amber saying she was going to finally try asking out someone who she thought she didn’t have a chance with. “Amber from Dirty Candi? My Amber?”
Luke nodded, eyes glue to the notebook page filled with scribbles in front of him, looking guilty as hell now that Carrie thought about it.
“What’d you say?”
“I turned her down.”
“What? She not good enough for you?”
“No. No, I mean.” Luke rushed to say, still not looking at her. “I’m sure she’s great, Carrie but I don’t think any relationship would be for me.”
“Really? “ Carrie glared at him, her nails digging into her bicep.
“It’s not that I don’t believe in love,” Luke said around the pencil now in his mouth. “I just don’t think it’s for me.”
“What? Like you're cursed or something?” Carrie did her best to not roll her eyes.
He shrugged as he finally glanced up at her, leaning onto the table. “I used to think that, it’s certainly what it seemed like.
“Like no matter how hard I tried to follow the steps I could never get the romance thing right. Not that I didn’t care about Alex, or Julie, or even Reggie but I could tell it wasn’t the same. At first I thought I just hadn’t found the right person or maybe, I dunno, the timing wasn’t right but eventually.”
Carrie nodded along as he spoke, thinking about the on and off again nature of her relationship with Nick and despite herself cut in. How she kept trying to convince him, and herself, that they were meant for each other, because he was the closest she ever felt comfortable dating anyone. “But eventually you started to wonder if you were the one who was broken.”
“Yeah,” he sighed, leaning back in his chair, looking to the ceiling. “Flynn and Willie keep telling me I’m not, but it’s hard to believe when I don’t fit into the world like everyone else does.”
“Not that you’re asking me, but they’re right.” Carrie said ignoring Luke’s bewildered look, because if he was broken that meant she was. And she sure as hell wasn’t broken. She stood and gestured for him to follow. “Come on, let’s go. Everyone else is only going to wait so long before they come looking for you again.”
Luke didn’t need much more convincing than that, the two of them falling into step. Carrie knew he was on autopilot back to the studio, and she was more than happy to follow. Maybe once they were there, they could have a more in depth conversation with Flynn and Willie.

for the WIP ask game, what can you say about peterpatterlina?
The basic premise of this was Julie and Luke start hooking up finally after years of ignoring all that chemistry while they're all on tour but when I started writing this I was reading a lot of Rukebox at the time and Reggie was just so SAD they were pretending nothing was going on it kinda turned into Alex and Flynn meddling to get Juke to talk to Reggie and figure out their own shit too. It's still kind of a mess and I'm not sure where it's going but here's a bit of Flynn talking to Julie.
“I’m trying to gather my thoughts Flynn. There’s a lot in there and I’m not sure what all of them even are.” She caught her eyes in the mirror. “I don’t…” she bit her lip. “Luke and I haven’t talked about what’s going on with us.” Flynn stopped braiding her hair and narrowed her eyes at Julie. “So you’re just hooking up and not talking about what that means or anything emotionally mature at all are you?” She sighed and dropped her eyes, “Basically.” “Julie!” “I know I know.” Julie squirmed in the chair before looking back up at her. “It’s just… it’s been kind of exciting sneaking around and we haven’t really had a lot of time to discuss it if we wanted to use that time for…” she cleared her throat and looked away again. “other things.” Flynn couldn’t help the giggle that escaped her lips as she finished the first braid. “Has it been worth it? You’ve wanted that boy for years.” A blush spread across Julie’s cheeks as she turned in the chair. “So good Flynn,” a laugh bubbled up and she looked so happy. “God he’s just so good.” Flynn sat down on the edge of the bed, “As long as you don’t talk though right?” “Yeah…” she slumped in her chair. “And then there’s Reggie.” Flynn reached for Julie’s hand grasping it tightly. “What about Reg Jules?” She shook her head not looking up. “I… feel like I’m cheating on him Flynn.”
