bear in mind that im an epilogue lover and i think Meat/Candy are really valuable pieces that further all of the characters and are also hard canon in the sense that we're looking at just 2 post-game universe outcomes out of an uncountable number (the book in the picnic basket representing post-canon fanfic). i think the characters actions in the epilogues make sense and are satisfying to me. yes even jane (i love alpha jane and i will not do her the disservice of 'cleaning her up' w/o showing her work for it. thats not how you depict a character who grew up with fascist programming). i could totally go on a whole tangent about this specifically but thats another post lol we'd be here forever and its also not stridercest

basically it has to do with the cherubs and how their relationships and mating rituals are pretty obviously incestuous leaning even though cherubs dont have the human concept of Siblings or blood family. the cherub who predominates will search across paradox space to mate with another cherub who closely resembles the cherub they predominated which is like textbook Freudian sexuality. theres a lot of Freud and Jungian stuff in HS imo even if im kinda [wobbly hand gesture] at the validity of these theories applied to real life and real people. but theyre super fun tools and lenses to use in fiction and i mean. gestures at all of dave

so the incest aliens cherubs. the whole reason why im talkin about them is bc Caliborn is so incredibly interested and invested in the Striders in particular. caliborn as both Lord English and Lil Cal shapes earth NOT OVERTLY but more so embeds himself in earth society, but again, the Striders lives in particular. dave is full of incest jokes. hes even apparently got a list of his friends arranged in order of how likely theyd incest-elope with each other (thank you epilogues for this amazing factoid). he seems to think about it often enough to, yknow, Do That. have a good solid think about that and construct an organized list about it. bearing in mind dave makes jokes about stuff thats a) bothering him, or b) generally camping out in his brain. hes not even really aware of it most of the time (as we see in one of the openbounds where hes all 'why am i thinking about puppets???' after seeing dirk for the first time in that dream bubble. he is thinking nonstop about dirk at that point and going off his only frame of reference for ANY dirk, which is his bro. his bro who was most likely deeply warped by Lil Cal)

a dedicated moviegoer (again one of the only genuine parts about his persona. his questionable-to-wretched tastes aside. but bearing in mind that the SBaHJ movies are intentionally bad which is what makes them loop around to good. such is the nature of intentionally 'bad' art. jake fuckin lives in this perpetual bad-good art loop. okay enough with the art tangent keep focused man cmon)

i’ve got a sneaking suspicion that this came out now as damage control for the AI thing because 1. it wasn’t included in the game all along like BATIM’s archives were and 2. this tweet

it’s about bad writing, bad exposition and bad game design. buckle up!

i see what they mean with the smile being a challenge to create, you can see in countless animations for fansongs how different artists tackled that and for one i think they did that very well

however. why the clothes exactly? is it just a meta reason with no reasoning in-universe whatsoever?

and look i’m not a fan of the ink demon having a voice (though i respect the craft behind it, the voice actor is very talented, it’s just a personal preference) BUT if you made the ink demon talk you should by logical extension either make toon bendy talk as well or explain why the hell he’s talking? i can see it being distracting but there are characters that have squeaky annoying voices in games and they’re fine (and it’s not like toon bendy is around the player for a super long time)

i dunno what logic this whole thing operates on anymore but if joey commissioned the ink machine then it should be his and arch gate got all his shit after he passed away so idk what retrieve is supposed to mean here

but it could just be badly written sentences and the archive is full of those (once again making me think that the thing was done in a rush)

Anyway, if you were forced to stick to the plot of ROTM, but were given freedom in how you would write it, how would you go about executing it?

In other words, how would you write out the story of Splatoon 3?

And if you have time, whats your penultimate opinion on the dev's decision for ROTM lore? This means stuff like Fuzzy Ooze, ORCA, Grizzco's "use," and etc.

oh thanks, tho ill say its less about me being worried about whether or not ppl will read them, and more so how much time and energy it takes to write out long stuff. for that reason i dont think i can fully answer this ask because this is an essay length question and theres a few ways i could rewrite it, either keeping the bear thing and changing up a few details, or making him not a bear. its kind of overwhelming. ill do the second one. i still think much of the foreshadowing, plot, and themes in theory could be kept intact if grizz was an inkling or octoling with a desire to fend off salmonids, a mammal obsession, and a motivation to "restore balance" to the world, with bringing back bears is a combo of all that it could start off that hes a researcher that worked with studying judd? and at some point this inkfish discovers ark polaris, an old wreckage, nothing on board survived but the remains of some of the mammals. plot carries out much of the same from there, learns about alterna and researches the crystals. the fuzzy ooze is made using the DNA of dead bears from the ship...or from a sample embedded in an old bear pawprint. the fuzzy ooze and it kind of takes over his body and mind in a way and leads him to being totally insane about bringing back mammals. maybe as it takes over his mind, the ooze that he controls, or controls him in a way, turns him more and more bear like in form.... im literally just spitballing here and this idea would have to be workshopped to be better to make it more thematically satisfying. also again this is a huge overwhelming question to answer. and sure yeah from what i shat out there theres some issues. but the splatoon team basically threw the "save our salmons" foreshadowing out the window and left us with the plot hole of how a literal bear couldve realistically set up a business so deeply in the inkling world and kidnapped a bunch of octarians. i wouldve liked that foreshadowing to have amounted to something... and making him an inkfish at least more clearly solves those latter 2 points.

Nefarious, anti-Zelink localization choices in TotK

I would argue that they are not a thing.

So what I’ve been seeing, is mostly discourse around The House. 

Mainly, that one line in Zelda’s diary, where Zelda refers to the house as “my house” in the English text as seen below: 

The argument seems to be that she does not say “my house” in the original Japanese. I’ve even seen people go as far as to claim she wrote “our house”. Aight, let’s take a peek then:

So indeed, there is no trace of  私の家 (my house), but neither is there 私たちの家 (our house). It’s just 家 (”house” / “the house”). 

As you know.  Pronouns aren’t nearly as pervasive in japanese as they are in English. I do think it’d be strange for her to use a possessive here, like, you know. Given that we know that it’s this here house she’s referring to, y’know. And she’s writing in her own diary, there’s no need to specify. Like, It’s the house. This house. What other house is there that she had an extra room built at? None, of course, right. Right. 

So anyway, what’s the correct translation then? ~I don’t know.~ If you wanna stick close to the original jp’s lack of possessive here, you’d say “the house”, i guess, but listen: “my house” is a perfectly reasonable option, as well. I know some of y’all hate that it makes it sound like she’s excluding Link here, and sure you’re allowed to feel that way but. I. don’t think it’s wrong tbh honest??? 

And “our house” would have worked, too, probably, but then it would have leaned a littttttle too heavily on the Zelink and I can sort of understand that they want to keep it at least a little nebulous. (because 1. that is what they do and 2. it’s more fun that way)

And unfortunately “our house” would have also contradicted another little piece of info found in the Japanese version regarding... the well, again. more specifically what the game calls the well. 

In English it is referred to as Zelda’s Secret Well. And that is what it is. It is very much the well that was built for her own purposes, and it is a secret chamber. No complaints here.

The well is labeled a little differently in Japanese, tho. The game calls it ゼルダの家の井戸, which could translate to "Zelda's house's water well" or "the water well by Zelda's house" (or whatever else you can think of that has “Zelda’s house” and “well” in it, probably, im just giving examples so u get the idea).

So, in fact, you could say that in Japanese, the house is clearly stated to be Zelda’s house. Woops, back to square one it is, then. 

But do you see? Are you seeing? While Zelda does call it “my house” in the English text seemingly leaving no room for Link, you could also argue that the localization team went out of their way to not call it “Zelda’s house” when they absolutely could have. By calling the well “Zelda’s secret well” instead of going for a closer-to-the-original “well outside Zelda’s house”, they recreated a little bit of room for speculation. Wow!!!! Cool!! 

And this is just like. One little tidbit I decided to focus on, but my point is:

There is no secret anti-Zelink agenda in the localization team. Translating means making choices, you might disagree with some of them, but that does not make them wrong or vile, I don’t think. 

And the siege mentality I’ve seen some people adopt regarding Zelink strikes me as very misplaced. We are eating good. There is food aplenty. Why are you digging for extra scraps that may not even exist? 

Granted, comparing the original text with its translations can be super fun (heck I enjoy it, to an extent!), but try to think about your own attitude as you do so. Try to go into with curiosity and humility in your heart instead of righteous vindicativeness. You might find that more satisfying. 

Now of course, sometimes translation errors do occur, and criticism is warranted, but try to take a step back and ask yourself if this really means the localization team are a bunch of buffoons who either have no idea what they’re doing or are actively trying to ruin your Zelda experice, or if, perhaps, instead, sometimes people fuck up. For various reasons that you may not be aware of.

(Rereading this i now realize that i am tone-policing and. Yeah. I am. deal with it)

One more thing, you don’t have to believe randos who claim “X is canon in Japanese and they censored it in English”, especially if they’re not elaborating or providing evidence. (You can choose to believe them if you want to, at the end of the day, but just be aware that you believed without seeing. So think before you spread the word around, right?)

One final, final thing, you can always set your nintendo switch to Japanese and experience the game in its original language, for yourself. Isn’t that the coolest? I wish this was possible for all games. Thanks, Nintendo!

Hello everyone.

It's currently 2 am and I just finished watching transformers earthsparks new episodes. I am just here to say my opinion on everything.

First of all, as a dedicated and certified Soundwave simp, the amount of screen time my guy gets is just outrageous. Bro only gets like most of an episode while then getting seen in snippets of everything else. Did nickelodeon really think that giving Soundwave an episode and then forgetting about him is gonna make people satisfied? But in general, the other decepticons, apart from Megatron, also get seen in one episode and then get forgotten. I need more decepticon/Soundwave screen time otherwise I will Ree.

Second of all, I think the animation quality has gotten much worse over the episodes. I do believe that they may be trying but honestly speaking I think beast wars CGI from 1990-something has way more fluidity and quality than whatever Nickelodeon decided to mash up one day.

Third of all, the story line has just become garbage. Compared to the first episode, the new episodes just seem super bland, until like the last 2 where I think everything is unexpected and I like it. What I mean by that is that the eps from before were super predictable, and the Friendship Is Magic™ just feels so overused. Like, you could add in a bit more conflict or fights in between and make them a bit more interesting. I honestly almost fell asleep a few times because everything was just so predictable and downright boring if I say so myself.

Alright, I get it's a TV show made for kids, but let's be real, name a kid who actually has even heard of transformers these days. I just think people should make a show that is at least enjoyable or enticing, or just having smoother animation. Or even have both and become the beauty of Transformers Prime... never mind I don't think anything will become as good as tfp unless it's actually tfp.

And last of all, I need to get this out of my system.

There's been a massive amount of OW hate (most of which is just a ton of angry people who won't let go of the whole PvE issue and stuff Blizzard at this point has no control over at this point in time), but it's OW Dev Appreciation Day so I wanna talk abt my favorite things about the Overwatch franchise and my feelings about most everything (I kindly ask for no hate or saying why the company/game/devs suck)

The devs have been working on Overwatch since 2016, and I genuinely have never loved a game and it's characters more. They were all their own character with awesome kits, great personalities, fantastic skins, and more. The game modes are smart and well thought-out, and balances are constantly being made to adjust the characters and make them fun for all. The devs are constantly trying new things with the characters to make them as fun as possible. They're also constantly working on lore, relationships, voice lines, maps, game modes, skins, characters, and a ton more. They've been doing this for close to a decade, and even when they took a break on making new content for the game, it was to develop Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 in its own right is my favorite game ever and I doubt I can find anything to top it. There's so much crammed into the game that at least once a week I find a feature or interaction I didn't know about even since launch. Im playing with people who are having as much fun as me and making cute little friendships. And don't even get me STARTED on PvE. I was kicking my feet screaming and laughing (and annoying the shit out of my brother bc I was so excited) as I played through the missions. Every little bit of it was so fun and, personally, 100% worth the 15 dollars. I mean, we got 3, THREE, missions with 4 difficulties, multiple heroes, and a shit ton of voice lines to discover for less than the price of some of the skins. Knowing Blizzard, that's amazing. There's a ton of stuff to discover in all of them. They distribute it pretty evenly throughout all the characters too, so none are getting completely neglected and all of them have unique lore.

All that being said.

Is Overwatch 2 a flawed game? Oh yeah. Is Blizzard a very flawed company? Oh yeah. Some of the prices and bundles are definitely ridiculous in price. There's a lot of issues, especially within the company and being greedy for money and harrassment. It's not like Overwatch 1.

But isn't that kinda the point?

It's a whole new game. If they wanted to keep it as Overwatch 1 they would of. Comparing the two, obviously Overwatch 1 comes out on top. But that's why it's pointless to hold Overwatch 2 to those standards, you literally can't. But in its own right, in its own category, Overwatch 2 really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. To a new player or someone somewhat easy to satisfy (like me), it's crazy addicting and fun.

I could say so much more, but it's bound to start a debate and I don't have the energy to write it all down. But personally, I love the game. I hate what angry, immature people are doing to it just bc they didn't get what they expected (like seriously, at least be grateful you got SOME kind of PvE), especially all the steam reviews about the nsfw artists doing more than the devs. They're literally trying to make money just like Blizzard. They're trying to achieve the same means: get money by making something others can have fun with.

In the grand scheme of things, the flaws are manageable and sort of overexaggerated. I have a blast playing the game and so do so many people other than the people spamming negative reviews on Steam (Seriously, you're taking time out of your day to do that?).

So, a big thanks to Overwatch Devs. Overwatch 2 in its own right is super fun and enjoyable, and even if it's expensive people can have fun with or without spending money. Thanks for actually giving us PvE and new systems to make the game unique. Thanks for the content to come and the content we have.

My hat's off to the devs who work hard and want to make this the best game it can be. There's flaws, but they're handling all the recent events and hate very well, and working on their ability to the best of their ability. That's not something everyone can do so easily.

so for the mencken from a question, (a promise) i see him as being technically married and with his wife publicly, but that's the extent of their marriage. like they don't sleep in the same bed and they have zero intimacy, but in public they're the perfect american couple for his image. tbh i don't think mencken's wife would really care if she found out. mencken is also too concerned about his perception and his career to make their relationship public, maybe if he was in his second term as president and not worried about re election he would make it more open. to me, caring and mean is about both the sex and the relationship. jeryd is no bullshit and very straight forward, so i really feel like he can disregard feelings a lot in his relationships. but at the same time, he's also obsessive so he really cares about what his partner is doing, who they're talking to, what they're thinking, etc. mencken can fuck really rough and mean, degrading and pulling hair and spanking. or he can fuck really intimately and caring, overstimulating and making you beg and kissing you sloppily.

for arranged marriage mencken, i feel like he's divorced in this universe? or like officially still married but separated or in the process of getting a divorce. i think he met reader either through work with the roys or maybe at the future freedom summit (the conservative political conference in s3 e6). this mencken is still super into his political career like he is canonically, but is maybe a little more caring than other menckens i've written lol.

My Binge Prep Bag

So with how little I eat a day, I feel like a Binge episode is bound to happen. Maybe not now, Maybe not soon, Maybe not for you, but for ME I feel like it will come at some point. So I'd rather be prepared and binge on foods I feel safe and comfortable with. Foods that I have already come to terms with that if I eat in abundance, in a moment of weakness, that it will be okay. I will be okay. Rather than binging on who knows what and not even knowing about how much calories I had.

If I binge on god knows what, I will feel disgusted, I will feel ashamed, I will feel sad, I will feel disappointed, I will feel large and then I'll probably cry.

This bag I have already accepted it. I will still probably feel sad and disappointed, maybe even shame, but I will take solace that I know what I am eating. That this is a CONTROLLED binged. Controlled, meaning I am not loosing.

Now I have this cause I didn't want just junk food, in my bag. I wanted to have real food/meal (hard to put a low calorie meal in you purse and not have it spoil though) so I have this. Im hopping that if I use the Veggie straws to eat it that it'll 1. Satisfy me and 2. Slow me down enough while Im eating to realize that I am satisfied and that I dont need to keep on eating.

Safety

Lastly the Cliff Blok Chew on here is 200cal. I keep it more for safety rather than a Binge, so if need I can eat this whenever I ever feel scared, shaky and faint.

How do you do your colors? Do you have a tutorial by chance?

aaa i dont have one onhand but i can go through my process? (this ended up being really long oops😭)

most of these arent like color theory rules or anything this is just how i like to do things

usually i choose 2-4 hues for the flats and pick some colors for my pallette off those

i generally like to stay away from desaturated colors but thats just cus super saturated colors r kinda my thing and i like em :]

and in my color picking for the pallette i try to make sure i have a substitute for black and white! you can give the impression of those two colors without actually using pure black or pure white by replacing them with other colors that have darker or lighter values than the rest of your pallette (ill say more on values in a sec)

nowww we talk about values!! a lot of people have a tendency to stay away from brighter more saturated colors cus they dont know how to use them in a pleasing way, and part of the reason for that i think is they arent checking values. values are a term to refer to white, black, grayscale colors, and when i refer to the values of your pallette, i mean how it looks in grayscale

this is how the colors i chose earlier look monochrome. i tried to make sure there was a good variety of dark and light values (could've done a little better than this tbh but you get the idea)

i Always check this when im picking colors cus i am prone to eyestrainy color clashy stuff and fixing values usually helps keep it pleasing

nowww we get into choosing shading and lighting colors. values also help for this!

i usually use a multiply layer for shading and a screen layer for highlights to start off with and choose a color id like for both. this time i did blue for shades and yellow for lights

also i avoid shading the black substitute sometimes cus sometimes it can look weird since i usually also make this my lineart color but thats not a hard rule or anything

but, while these are a nice starting point, im not satisfied with them so i merge all the layers and start adjusting them, making them more saturated and making sure the values look okay

aaaand it turns out like this!

usually this would be where people would stop but iiiii have been messing around with transitional shades as of late so i should probably talk about those too. basically i saw a painter say she avoids blending the base colors with the shading and lighting too much because it makes pieces look muddy to her, and that she prefers to make her own transition shades that keep the saturation up. so i took that to mean blast bright ass colors all over my piece as long as the values line up.

im still kinda figuring out how i like to do this and this is mostly just based off me like fucking around and isnt really apart of color theory rules from what i know but its how my pieces look the way they do

basically for each highlight color ill pick it, and move the hue level a little in the direction away from the base color, and then ill adjust that until the value is between the base color and the highlight, and then i repeat that process with the shading colors.

and it should look a little like this in monochrome with the values between the ones of highlights base colors and shading. cus it transitions between themmm thats why its a transition shade.

and this is how it turns out in color! the general idea is to make them pop while still being close enough to the base colors/shading/lighting that it isnt so jarring that it looks gross. im still fucking around and figuring out how to do this in a way that looks good to me but yeah! :]

that's my whole process basically. i did not realize itd make a whole essay but i hope its helpful in any way? feel free to ask for clarification if any parts are confusing

AHHHHHHHH YOU FINALLY WATCHED IT!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO DUMP ALL MY FEELINGS ABOUT THE MOVIE! Ok so i would like to say i LOVE the cameos that movie is filled with. Like the youtubers who helped made Fnaf mainstream, the references to fnaf history in the fandom like Sparky’s diner referencing the made up animatronic people were talking about back in the olden days, MATPAT’S ICONIC CATCHPHARSE, and just a lot of stuff from the Fnaf fandom that’s just THERE in the movie. The whole time i was in the theatre, everytime i see an easter egg from something in the franchise as a whole, i would like go “HEY THAT BOOK IS REFERENCING DREAM THEORY” or “HEY THAT SPRINGLOCK SUIT LOOK QUITE SIMILAR TO CIRCUS BABY!” (The springlock suit is actually a reference to Ella from the books but if i remembered correctly, Ella herself had some connection to Circus Baby? I might be wrong but there’s that) It was fun seeing those easter eggs and feels rewarding to recognize it.

I love how the animatronics looked exactly the same as they looked in the games, whoever made them are incredible. Like omg they are actually there and have you seen Dawko’s video visiting the set? They were so expressive and just there. They just straight up came out of the games and are now in real life, i dont think i can ever get over my astonishment of the animatronics.

Now the plot, I honestly love the plot. A bit simple? Sorta but it made sense. It was perfect for newcomers to watch it without prior knowledge of fnaf but familiar enough that old fans enjoy it as well. The characters were amazing. I love Mike and Abby’s relationship as we see how much both of them mean to each other like the fact Mike will do anything to protect his sister and Abby adding Mike to her drawings most of the time, their interactions are just so cute and god i love it. Then we have Vanessa which was an unexpected surprise since we meet her in Security Breach but it was a weIcome surprise. Throughout the movie, i keep questioning how the hell does a police officer know so much about an old pizzaria, like sure she may be a super fan but that explanation didint satisfy me but then it turns out she’s William Afton daugther and my jaw was dropped. No wonder she knew so much about it and no wonder she was so weird to Mike about it. She was trying to protect him. But with her being in a coma now, my mind cant help but remember the “I will put you back together” scene. Ik William isnt there but yk, for some reason i think she’s going to have nightmares that are just Fnaf 4.

I also love the fact that the movie show that the animatronics are more than killing machines but children. The fort scene was honestly my favourite, at first it was funny because yk we have 4 clunky animatronics, 2 tired adults, and a very excited child trying their best to make a fort, funny stuff are absolutely going to happened and i laughed when Bonnie fell and just gave a thumbs up to show he’s okay. But then we get to see them laying down in their fort and i just saw 4 kids. 4 kids getting to actually be kids. Something they havent been since their deaths and the once what was funny became bittersweet. It just shows how tragic their death was and later we get to find out how their unknowingly working with the man behind their slaugther? It’s just sad.

Also what do you think of the plot holes they leave behind? Like what are the connection between Abby and the ghost children, we know she’s been drawing them way before Mike ever started working at the pizzaria? Could it be because she’s the puppet’s sister since there’s been theory that Garret is the puppet. The first one to be killed. And i actually believe that might be true with all the evidence we have but can that explain about Abby’s connection to the kids? No. Then there’s like the question about did anyone noticed the crooks that Aunt Jane hired dissapearance? Vanessa probably covered it up but im not too sure. Also wth did Mike do with his Aunts body? Im sure questions will arise for what happened to her in the neighborhood. But nevetheless Im sure that these answers will be answered in the sequel which we’ll see i guess.

Now how i think the brothers feel about the movie? Lucifer and Ik probably sympathise with Mike because the former is basically a single father taking care of his 6 children and the latter seeing her father in him. Mammon will have nightmares to the point that he scared to turn the lights off. Beel may or may not have second thoughts eating a cupcake after seeing Carl brutually murdering people (why the hell does the cupcake have a high body count than the others????). The rest is basically what you drew.

Ok so i still have more things to say but for now that is all. What do you think of the movie? Did it meet your expectations for it? Did your friend who went into this blind now interested in fnaf? i had a great time watching it!! i didn't really notice the plot holes until i thought about it afterward, it was a brilliant romp and i think that's just what the fnaf movie needed to be

i was surprised that the emotional beats of mike's plot hit as well as they did, actually! i think bc the games aren't as much of a personal story, it's quite new to see this sort of things directly from a character's perspective. i think hutcherson's performance really made it tbh, mike's story would not have worked if not for his perpetual stressed sogginess

the cupcake was KILLING me this whole movie. why are you so mad!! that shot where it's mauling the dude's face off and chica just turns around and smiles at the other guy like ">:) i'm gonna get ya" was so funny

honestly my main complaint is just that i would've liked to see the animatronics go insane mode more... the pillow fort scene and Everything about bonnie was the cutest thing i've ever seen but also those kids deserve to go feral (though i have to say the cupcake being the one to trigger the springlocks was a masterstroke and so so funny)

we were all absolutely floored by max getting straight up BISECTED. shout out to jo for immediately hollering "WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87" (also she was the only one who caught the ella reference with the suit they were going to stuff abby into)

title sequence was incredible... loved the homage to the terrible pixel art in the games (music was also a absolute banger). OH YEAH when matpat showed up we all went silent out of shock except for james (the one who didn't know fnaf before) who went "ooh hello sailor-" and was promptly drowned out by me yelling "MATTHEW????? (satan and levi would be absolutely rioting over that scene)

in terms of theories... i'm not caught up on the popular ones but i do like the idea that mike is swapped over to being an emily (with vanessa sort of taking a similar role to the original mike afton) also james (did half a nursing degree) was hollering at vanessa immediately going near-death mode from what he said was a stab wound of the "inconsequential in the grand scheme of things" degree

i said something after the movie about how "oh it's such a shame markiplier couldn't do the film, he would've done a great job as the guy getting killed at the start" ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT APPARENTLY THAT WAS HIS INTENDED ROLE i'm psychic (what was with the spinning razor freddy mask though?? is william doing that?? is he sending people to the pizzeria to stick his spinny razor masks on them??)

i was drinking my tea when matthew lillard said The Line and could not participate in the revelry afterwards because i choked and started coughing for about two minutes straight.. kind of ruined the dramatic tension but someone had already started cackling at abby's drawing so really i'm not to blame

though the way they use kids' drawings within the narrative is genuinely great, and the twist with how they turn the animatronics against afton is super clever! i am also a firm believer in the fact that afton drew that original one himself and he's just SO bad at art

all in all!! really liked it! the cast's performances was great, the references were excellent, the inexplicable balloon boy jumpscares were perfect, and i WISH i could hug the animatronics so bad

What WN means to me:

i watched it initially for Avatrice, ofc i did. one day during lockdown i randomly saw a crack vid of avatrice and decided to watch it. not even knowing if they end up together or if they kiss or if they become canon. i didnt watch the whole vid so i wont spoil everything, which was weird because ever since lexa, i dont watch shows without knowing that the sapphic couple would be together and happy.

did you know where i stopped? i stopped during the part where ava phased out of the wall, breathless and scared, and beatrice was there to catch her. maybe it was the way she looked, the way kristina's eyes shined as beatrice holding alba's ava in her hands that convinced me that yup these two are in love. or at least bea is. this isnt a crack ship. this is real.

so i watched s1. tbh, im one of the people who thought s1 was slow bec if im being rlly honest, i watched it for avatrice. but i wasnt expecting to love ava, that running on the beach scene loving life, alba's acting of laughing and crying and breathless under the stars with the sand below her and the ocean just in front, and watching THAT during the fucking pandemic ???? that saved me from a lot of dark thoughts swirling in my head. i wasnt expecting a family. a real found family that even when mary and lilith were fighting each other to death you can tell that there's love, there's history. there's sisterhood. i wasnt expecting that from a show with 'Warrior Nun' as a title. and not bec i thought it was silly but bec i thought it was one of those female-led show made for men.

long story short, i finished it. search tumblr for a bit for content, then twitter, then ao3, as one usually does and then nothing. i moved on, peacefully. even if that s1 cliffhanger was far from peaceful. bec i was sure there would be an s2 with that kind of ending. i went on with my life and continued to consume other media.

until october 2022. i didnt even knew they were filming s2. i saw the s2 trailer in yt randomly again. there they were. dancing. i was like how did these two go from fighting an angel?-jesus-like-incarnate in s1 to dancing casually in a bar?? i was scared at first, maybe this isnt the same show that i'll come back to bec lets be honest most s2 of a really good s1 most of a time is a let down. but then i saw the "your jealous" "that's absurd" part and i was like yup those two are in love and im going to watch this just so i can see how they do it.

for extra context (i know this is getting super long but i honestly dont care im doing this for me), im reviewing for the boards and getting invested in anything other than my studies would be really bad. i was catious with what media to consume because i need to focus on my studies. even so, i watched the final ep for context and carry the feeling before watching the first episode. the legendary fucking first episode. the hands behind teasing walk, the kiss cheek, the dance, the stare (i dont have to explain this, u know what im talking about) i replayed all of those moments 10 times bec WOW they weren't holding back.

then everything else. the little moments leading to the big ones were satisfying and so perfectly excuted that i cant even watch it with my girlfriend bec she gets mad that i keep repeating the scenes and slowing them down to take it all in. halfway through s2, i knew i was gonna watch it again. and i only really did that for 2 other shows (shera and the wilds s1, atla and tlok dont count bec i rewatch them periodically and not right after finishing) but u know what i didnt do to those other two that i did with warrior nun? i watched it a third time in a bigger screen just so i can see more. i watched in a 4th time with my girlfriend. i watched it a 5th time just so i can move on with my life and i watched it a 6th time because i missed them and i can't. i watched it a 7th time because i won't. and at this point i lost count at how much i rewatched the show. i would stream it during studying just so i could have them on screen and be inspired with finishing so i can watch them.

im just really heartbroken right now. with all this.

my thoughts on wet moon 7

finished wet moon. i liked it. i wish the ending was different though. i feel like a huge bitch for complaining about it since sophie worked so long on it and i don't want to tell her how to do her own story better and i can definitely tell she felt it was the best way to end the story. i'm not taking that away from her whatsoever, i dont think it was a bad ending by any means, this is simply how i personally would've preferred the story to end (spoilers for wet moon 7, obviously).

the idea of a conclusion - wet moon is very floaty in the way the story is told. it's not super abstract, but it's not really told as a conventional story, either. it's just sorts of glimpses at character's lives. this is why i find the finality of morning cold unfitting. we do have a lot of things left open, but they're more plot points than character relations for the most part (what was with the cleo eats it stuff, the paranomal stuff, etc). it felt like it closed the door on each character's narrative way too concretely. i thought the scene with beth was cute, but if she never showed up after her departure prior, i think it would've been fine. i'm also not a fan of penny's biphobia being swept under the rug for it to turn out she herself is queer all along

as a continuation on that point - the "fairy tale" ending. i thought the ending was far too sweet. i'm not a hater of happy endings, but again, tied with the conclusivity and fluff in the forms of beth and penny's story i thought could have been omitted, it felt too twee for my tastes

to summarize my biggest complaint spawning from those two: i felt this book was a bit of a tonal mismatch to prior ones. it was a bit too cut and dry and didn't have as much mystique

i dont mind cleo and mara splitting, and there were definitely seeds to it happening, but it was a bit sudden - moreso was trilby and cleo getting together when the door on that felt closed since about book 2. mara and natalie also felt a little forced, but both relationships had merits, the latter much more than the former

i don't completely get why trilby is mad with martin - you can sort of gleam why but this is left open in a way that isnt satisfying such as the other closed plot points i'd have been fine with keeping open or the things that do stay unexplained

while i mention natalie - her design. i feel like her scar was really downplayed. which, if it healed, yeah, sure, but i liked it a lot more in prior volumes. i also just generally prefer her design in prior volumes, but that's a minor gripe

a lot of focus on nissa and nora. this isn't inherently a problem, but they were barely that present prior, so to have a majority of the finale focus on them was an odd choice - though it's a bit of a lose/lose. either they could have been retroactively used more (which would've had to have changed the story a lot), or just shafted entirely. this is another minor gripe, but it stood out to me.

but don't get me wrong, like i said i still enjoyed wet moon a lot - i wrote all of this because i care, and even then, i must stress it wasn't a bad ending at all, i just have my gripes.

sophie's art through all books is spectacular and her writing was engaging - even despite my gripes with this volume, i thought she nailed the character voices (especially zia) and understanding of the character relations - its less so that she ruins character relationships, but rather she has a lot more clarity on them that, while good, feels somewhat incongruent with prior volumes.

on the art - every volume had great art but holy shit she really stepped it up in this volume. im not good with descriptive words but its just like a total evolution and its wild. trilby's redesign is awesome. every character manages to look more distinct than they already were, which again feels like magic. i definitely wanna read more of her stuff

BOOK REVIEW AGAINNNNNNN yippee i have actually been reading... not a lot but well i am ! kinda forgot about this blog ok thats not true i was just lazy and didnt want to write a post. well anyways heres a big post for all the stories i read there are 4 - things have gotten worse since we last spoke by eric larocca, paradise rot by jenny hval, soft science by franny choi, and the country will bring us no peace by matthieu simard ! spoilers under the cut

ok first i read things have gotten worse since we last spoke because i wanted to go on a little kick of reading weird crazy people books at 3 am. and i did! chose this one because i saw it was very short so. anyways i thought this was.... okay. i think what made it a little worse off for me is that i already knew about the whole parasite thing from tiktok, so it wasnt that crazy to me when it actually happened. gonna be honest i do Not remember how the book ends at all so i dont even know if it was satisfying or not. was my experience worsened by it being 3am and me not having any thoughts at all? probably. would i do it again? yeah. i was a lil bit disappointed in the apple peeler part too... i thought it was going to be more relevant than it was unless there are some hidden symbolism meanings motifs going on that i didnt get... actually now that im thinking about it big long unbroken peels of apple + a big long probably worm-like parasite? next to each other thats kinda cool. other than that thought i literally just had now typing this out i didnt see anything else. omg speaking of seeing the tagline and also its mentioned in the book, "what did you do today to deserve your eyes?" crazy ass fuck sentence. i kinda love it actually and this is maybe where i would have like to see the apple peeler come in. she takes the apple peeler to her face and peels her eyes out of her head idk. also i feel like either on tiktok/goodreads they were supposed to be ballerinas? but that wasnt mentioned at ALL? i might be misremembering but that also could have been a cool little anecdote. anyways all this to say i thought the book was alright. i was entertained for like 2 hours. my favorite part of this experience was going on goodreads after and seeing a one star review of the book that just said "men stop writing trauma porn about lesbians." which is SO FUCKING FUNNY. because 1 im pretty sure the author is nonbinary, so hes not a man. 2. WHO IS GETTING OFF TO THIS. sorry i do absolutely not see any fetishization here, and also i think they write stories like this in like collections,, so there are probably people other than lesbians in them. idk i just thought that was funny. jesus christ this is getting long and i'm only 1/4 done. i pity anyone who opens this.

next i read paradise rot by jenny hval, which i had heard was dubbed the "bisexual piss book" intriguing and also a short little story i read at 3am. i did like this one, i thought it was fun and interesting and im a big fan of rot. just in general. vibes were on point. this book was moist. however, not as much piss as i expected. as in like quantities on page. they did talk about piss a lot and by they i mean the narrator. not as horror-esque as i thought it would be but i did like it! ohhh to simply rot away...... would not recommend this to normal people and i like that about it.

soft science by franny choi !!!! really liked this! im going to be honest i do not remember more than one poem from this collection. but i do remember liking them !!! sorry i think i need to train my brain to like and remember poetry more. and not just like the ones from tumblr webweaves even though all of them slay.

finally i read the country will bring us no peace by matthieu simard. i liked this, thought it was super interesting,,, ok i didnt think it was super interesting i thought it was good. god i am trying to program myself out of academic reviews of stupid dumbass books i was forced to read. this isn't like that at all. anyways i thought the whole grief aspect was done very well, the sadness at knowing literally nothing will work or come together to make your life go back to the way it was, go back to being whole again. and that deep deep sadness of not only losing their daughter but also the life they had before, the life they had with each other,,, losing all hope. it definitely got to me i did almost cry i think. i think i have more to say about this but i don't remember it. oh well. i thought the vibes of a hostile small mountain town were cool ! i think one of my favorite scenes was when the lavoie's kid falls from the antenna and they are just standing there doing nothing and simon has to go save him... idk the fact that they were shown as perfect parents for their perfect children and how not great they actually were <- this thought is dumb and obvious you get what im saying. one of my main issues is that the ending did feel rushed... and i was a bit confused,,,, the last line "a bird starts to sing" i couldn't tell if that was meant to be marie and simon hearing birds in the afterlife, in the woods by the bowling alley? or was that just the birds in the town finally starting to sing? because if its the latter i don't really get how simon and marie dying would bring the birds back.. the town is still dying and tragedies will still happen... idk its probably the birds in the afterlife but oh well. ok final thought i think but i think the title in french is interesting. it's called "ici, ailleurs" which means "here, elsewhere" or more like "here, something better. here, a new beginning." i like that, obviously it's what the book is about, and idk i think the translator did a good job at conveying the message. i think i would read this book again but in french, mostly to practice because my french is shit but i think since it only really stays in one setting, there's not a lot of characters, concepts are pretty easy to understand, i think it would be fun !!!! ok im done those are my reviews of all the books ive read in the past week or so thanks to anyone who reads this whole thing you are crazy. peace and love
