jhöjkhf lmao okay since you asked let me talk about uhhhh *spins wheel* October Daye and uhhhh Pokemon!
Let’s talk about what partner pokemons our gang would have!
Toby: I think a Pawniard is perfect, they’re literally made out of blades, what more could she want? Also according to some of the pokedex entries they ignore their injuries while fighting which..... is very Toby not gonna lie
May: I was thinking about a few options here, like Absol (bc death omen) or Mimikyu (for obvious reasons) but honestly, those are more general fetch things than they are May specifically. The pokemon with the most May vibes is Swirlix. I mean it’s literally cotton candy, I think May would vibe with that
Quentin: Aegislash. I was first considering this for Toby, but it’s a sword rather than knives which Quentin is a lot better with, plus his magic smells of steel. But also. Listen to this pokedex entry for it: “Apparently, it can detect the innate qualities of leadership. According to legend, whoever it recognizes is destined to become king”, which is just too good to pass up. I was gonna give him one of it’s preevolutions first, bc he’s still baby, but honestly he’s become really competent lately and he doesn’t do things by halves, his partner would definitely be fully evolved already.
Tybalt: Zoroark. Tybalt is such a theater nerd he’d definitely love an illusion pokemon. Obviously I considered giving him a cat, but if every Cait Sidhe only has cat pokemon it’s gonna get boring quick. Plus: “Bonds between these Pokémon are very strong. It protects the safety of its pack by tricking its opponents.” just screams Tybalt to me
Raj: Charmeleon. Bc I feel like Raj would really vibe with a dragon, and Charmeleon is “hot-headed” and “tough fights could exite this pokemon” which is a very Raj vibe not gonna lie. He doesn’t get a Charizard bc he’s still baby. It’ll probably evolve when he becomes king
The Luidaeg: Skrelp. Because let’s be real, she doesn’t need a super strong pokemon she’s the mf seawitch and she’d vibe with a cute looking kelp seahorse. Especially one that has this description: “It drifts in the ocean, blending in with floating seaweed. When other Pokémon come to feast on the seaweed, Skrelp feasts on them instead. “
Raysel: Banette. Because, look, all it’s pokedex entries say it’s an angry doll that got abandondend by the child who owned it. I feel like Raysel with her anger at everyone around her could really vibe with that.
Acacia: I don’t think she’d be that strongly into pokemon training tbh and I’m only really mentioning her bc uh. The pokedex entry for Phantump: “ According to old tales, these Pokémon are stumps possessed by the spirits of children who died while lost in the forest.” So basically her forest is probably filled with them and she absolutely loves and takes care of all of them.
Dianda: Crabrawler. Need I really explain why?

what does the dark type really mean?
so i just went through all the pokedex entries of dark type pokemon to understand the type better, bc it’s kind of ambiguous compared to other types. i’d say dark and fairy types are the most indirect, not straightforward types to understand, bc... what does that really mean?
what i gathered on a general scheme is that dark types are cunning, stealthy, aggressive, resourceful, smart, territorial, protective, and backed into a corner. there are different pokemon that exemplify just one of these traits, or all of them, but for the most part, they all seem to come from a place of ‘i or my kind have known hurt and being hunted, so our goal is to make ourselves seem like the biggest, baddest ones out there in favor of protecting our own, even when we’re backed into a corner.’ they’re often ruthless and tricky in order to get the results they want. those results can vary from being the strongest on the block (power for the sake of power) to don’t fuck with me (power for the sake of protecting and covering old wounds). it seems that dark types of the ‘misunderstood type’ or the ‘trauma type’. and in the case of mightyena and even malamar to an extent, they just want to be left alone and won’t hesitate to bite to get people to stop messing with them (without intent of hunting them down to start).
on another point, dark types are often judged to be bad omens, bad luck, or a sign of harm. their pokedex entries don’t really indicate their behavior, but more how humans view them, which become the main observation about the pokemon itself.
here are some pokemon dex entries that really stood out to me about different behaviors.
causing harm or mischief with the intent to protect itself or its kind:
Darkrai - To protect itself, it afflicts those around it with nightmares. However, it means no harm.
Zorua - To protect themselves from danger, they hide their true identities by transforming into people and Pokémon.
Zoroark - This Pokémon cares deeply about others of its kind, and it will conjure terrifying illusions to keep its den and pack safe.
primary information about human reaction to them:
Murkrow - Feared and loathed by many, it is believed to bring misfortune to all those who see it at night.
Houndoom - Long ago, people imagined its eerie howls to be the call of the grim reaper.
Sableye - Sableye lead quiet lives deep inside caverns. They are feared, however, because these Pokémon are thought to steal the spirits of people when their eyes burn with a sinister glow in the darkness.
Absol - Absol has the ability to foretell the coming of natural disasters. It lives in a harsh, rugged mountain environment. This Pokémon very rarely ventures down from the mountains.
displays of outward, almost ‘bullying’, aggression to assert dominance but often with a soft spot:
Linoone - It uses its long tongue to taunt opponents. Once the opposition is enraged, this Pokémon hurls itself at the opponent, tackling them forcefully.
Scrafty - While mostly known for having the temperament of an aggressive ruffian, this Pokémon takes very good care of its family, friends, and territory.
Pangoro - Although it possesses a violent temperament, it won't put up with bullying. It uses the leaf in its mouth to sense the movements of its enemies.
Incineroar - Incineroar's rough and aggressive behavior is its most notable trait, but the way it helps out small Pokémon shows that it has a kind side as well.
and another, outlier entry that caught my eye as to the more ‘moonlight’ concept of the dark type.
Umbreon - When exposed to the moon's aura, the rings on its body glow faintly and it gains a mysterious power.
umbreon has no indication of any of the dark type traits except that it hunts in the night and stalks its prey from the shadows, but it does identify interest in the moon and moon power. this makes me think there is some kind of connection between (some) dark types and the power of ‘night’, connected to the moon or silence or that sense of alertness you get at night.
now, there are definitely the dark types that are solely identified as thieves (nickit, thievul, purrloin, liepard, sneasel) who act deceptively in order to steal from humans or other pokemon. a lot of behavior based off of surviving. like how a fox might steal from an unknowing camper.
i don’t really have a conclusion to this. i just found it interesting to identify the meaning of the dark type, and how it pertains to piers as the first dark gym leader (tho not first dark trainer overall, bc past elite four and whatnot). he has to be able to conquer and master these traits if he’s meant to be a master of dark types, which he is. it seems easy to underestimate him, but there’s more than meets the eye. there’s a level of combativeness that won’t back down when fighting a bigger enemy, though he’s not likely to face it head on. that’s not really a dark type strategy (except for the dark/fighting dual types). dark types are smart and crafty and resourceful. they’re basically slytherins.
but they’re not evil. there’s a lot of use of dark types in evil orgs in pokemon. a vulture eating an abandoned baby animal isn’t evil. it’s just an animal surviving. and piers will fight this point until he dies.

have this voltron/pokémon masters crossover story event that i wrote for funsies bc holy shit i’m obsessed
[player name] was walking down Pasio’s sunny beach one morning, when s/he comes across his/her friends!
Shiro: It’s a great day for Training, isn’t it? Hunk: (punches hand into the air) Totally! (yawns) It’s a bit early for us to be out here, but that means the beach is near-empty! Pidge: So, when should we begin? Shiro: Now’s as good a time as any to start. Go, Aggr— ???: Hold it RIGHT THERE! (Three Team Break grunts come running onscreen.) Shiro: Who are you? Pidge: You mean you’ve never met Team Break before? Team Break punk girl: That’s right. We’re Team Break. And this island is ours. Hunk: It’s not yours to take. And neither are our companions! Punk Girl: Fufufufufu…We’ll see about that! Hand over your Pokémon!
(battle ensues)
Punk Girl: I-impossible! I thought I would win for sure! Shiro: Your impatience yields a lack of focus. Pidge: That’s what you get for trying to take what’s rightfully ours! Hunk: Yeah! Go cry to all your little friends about it! Get out of here! Punk Girl: Oh, I have friends all right. (turns around and yells to Team Break grunts in the back) Hey! You! Get on over here and beat these clowns! Team Break Ace Trainer (male): Well, well, well… Shiro: (folds his arms) Don’t bother. [player name] can handle you. Ace Trainer: Look at that white hair of yours. No way I’m losing to an old man and his grandkids!
(battle ensues)
Ace Trainer: What? I lost? How could this happen? Shiro: Overconfidence is the mother of loss. Hunk: Awwwww, looks like someone’s sad. Why don’t you run back to your big daddy admins? ???: Why would he need to run? I’m right here. (Two Team Break admins appear, one with a Zoroark by his side.) Team Break admin 1: And who might you be? New victims? (laughs) Pidge: None of your goons could take my Pokémon away from me. What makes you think you can? Admin 1: I’m on another level, sweetheart. I can do much more damage to you than my hired hands. I’ll give you one chance to give me your Pokémon peacefully…or else. Shiro: Mm…we’ll take the “or else,” thanks. Team Break admin 1: Hehehe…suit yourself. Your Pokémon are practically ASKING to be stolen!
(battle ensues)
Admin 1: (looking down, not speaking) Pidge: We beat you. It’s over. Go home. Admin 1: (laughs audibly) Aha…ahahahahaha! AHAHAHAHAHAHA! You really thought I was done there? (takes out three more Poké Balls) Pidge: WHAT? But you’re only allowed to have one! Admin 1: Simple child. Do you really think that an admin of Team Break would play by the rules? Hunk: Our team can’t take much more fighting. What are we gonna do, what are we gonna do— Admin 2: (grabs Admin 1’s arm while Zoroark grabs the other arm) Not so fast! Admin 1: HUH?! (Admin 2’s illusion drops, and he transforms into Lotor!) Lotor: You thought I was one of you, didn’t you? Admin 1: But…b-but…but I saw you training new recruits just yesterday! How could you be somebody ELSE?! Lotor: I impersonated one of your colleagues to gather information about your operations. I thought I’d let my friends here handle you on their own, but now that you’ve threatened to exceed their capacities, I figured it was time to step in. Admin 1: Th—then I’ll fight you too! Three of my Pokémon against your one! How do you like that? Lotor: I’m a Hall of Famer in more than four different Leagues. I took down some Elite Four members’ teams with this Zoroark alone. I’ve watched you fight. We both know you’re nothing special. Do you really think three of your Pokémon are the equal of one of mine? Admin 1: ……… (stammering) Admin 1: You won’t get away with this! (runs away)
Hunk: Lotor! You saved us! Lotor: (smiling) It takes a great intellect to weave a convincing illusion, and an even greater intellect to see past it. And seeing as I’m fairly certain no member of Team Break is more intelligent than me… Pidge: Oh, har har. Shiro: That was impressive, disguising yourself like that. How did you manage to do it for so long? Lotor: As a scholar of strategy as well as science, I pride myself on my ability to research and look into the hearts and minds of my enemies. Once I knew enough about Team Break and how they acted and operated, pretending to be one of their admins was all too easy. Shiro: Hm. Hunk: ? Shiro: That does seem to be a fine explanation on its own. But I have younger siblings, and I always knew when they were hiding something from me. I think you’re hiding something from us, Lotor. What is it? Lotor: You wouldn’t want to hear it. Hunk: Of course you can tell us. No judgment. We’re your friends! Lotor: I…know too much about the folks like Team Break. I know too much about how to plan a covert operation. I suppose you could say—I was once part of an evil Team myself. (All characters look shocked.) Hunk and Pidge: Huh?! Lotor: When I was younger, still learning the ways of the world, I…used to be a spy for Team Galactic. I joined because I thought this world was rotten, and Cyrus was the only person in existence who could fix it. He seemed to know so much about the universe and how it worked, and I learned a lot from him about science, mythology, and history—knowledge that I still cherish to this day. He seemed to know everything about everything, and that was my ideal for someone who wanted to rule a new world. But… Hunk: He turned out to be a big meanie, didn’t he? Lotor: Why, yes, he was, as you say—a “big meanie.” I was blinded. I was lied to. He didn’t even care about anything he taught me. He cares about knowledge insofar as it makes him look more intelligent, not because one can explore its mysteries or use it to better the world around us. What’s worse, he didn’t even care about his Pokémon. And I thought—if he sees his Pokémon like expendable toys, how does he see the rest of humankind? Was he making the new world for humanity’s sake, or for his own? (sigh) Shiro: I see… Lotor: Being in Galactic was why I didn’t go back to school. Leaving behind my past in Galactic was why I stopped Training. You want to know the real reason why I went to study with my mom? The real reason I didn’t want to join the PML? I thought that after what I had done, I didn’t deserve to be a Trainer. Someone who commands their Pokémon to do great harm in the world shouldn’t battle with Pokémon at all. Hunk: Don’t say that about yourself! Pidge: It was brave of you to leave. Shiro: I agree. It can’t have been easy. Hunk: Yeah! Our side needs more people like you on it! Lotor: You…really think so? All: (characters nod their heads enthusiastically) Yes! Lotor: Th…thank you. From the bottom of my heart… Shiro: Everyone has things in their past that they regret. It’s the truest sign of character to be able to admit that you’re wrong and move on from it. You are a fine Trainer, one that people all over Pasio—no, all of the world—should look up to. And we’ll always be there for you when you need us. Lotor: You’re too kind. Truly. I am in your debt.
