i have some thoughts about medical student!gene and paramedic!babe and they're gonna make my brain explode if i don't share them

bill and babe taking shifts together. bill makes babe drive cause he's "older" (their birthdays are two weeks apart but babe likes to indulge him).

babe has the biggest crush on gene. babe also has a very specific way of flirting which sometimes ends with him stumbling over his own words. bill still cheers him on ithis includes some horribly obvious thumbs up.

gene just quit smoking. that's why babe frantically stubs out his cigarettes whenever he spots gene on his break.

lip as the charge nurse google said it's the correct term. no one dares to f*ck with him. that man is running a tight ship and he will hold you accountable for f*cking up. he's also immensely likable, so no one dares to upset him. plus. he's dating the scary neurosurgeon who is going to yell at you for making lip upset.

I need Bruce doing things he believes is completely out of character for Batman just to scare people. Like full on just putting Brucie into Batman as revenge against the annoyances he’s received.

Hal walks into the meeting room early for once and sees Batman kicking his feet a doodling in his lead lined notebook with a sparkly gel pen.

Hal: flees

By the time the meeting comes around Batman is once again the stoic scary man he always is. Hal is half convinced that it was a hallucination of some kind, maybe lack of sleep or that bagel that Barry dared him to eat.

The meeting ends and everyone is just hanging out. Hal goes over to talk to Barry when he swears he hears Batman’s voice say “no one will ever believe you” in his ear. Hal doesn’t sleep well for a week.

homecoming

i just got past the part of the books when Lucy goes home and finds Holly there... I have thoughts for the show

Coming home in the show would be emotionally harder for Lucy because of how her mother is (if she decides to see her at all), how the town is (her mum as shitty as she is probably was not lying about how the town judged Lucy for "letting those kids die"

But Lucy does have Norrie to visit (I actually really love the letters Lucy records to Norrie and wish we could have seen more as it would show the progression of her relationship with Lockwood and George has come) and maybe Norries parents asked her to visit so they could talk (just because they like her or other reasons)

and of course whatever her choice she would be supported by Lockwood and George they would have a solid promise to not hire a new person of the team until she gets back as they are a team. So she leaves feeling safe that the boys will be fine until of course the probable confrontation with her mum happens and she comes to her real home bruised (emotionally but you know) and upset but feeling better the closer she gets to Portland Row she get's their favourite cakes and finds the house clean and she feels warm thinking they did it for her and then little things filters in realisations that they have company

and she doesn't put the cakes on the platter (like she does in the book) she wants a hug first and she goes down stairs as she hears them laughing and there is Holly and the boys there are two paths this could go the one is how it plays out in the book

and the other is her just not going into the room far enough for them to see and her just going back upstairs and out of the house to walk around a bit

it basically depends on the emotional minefield her homecoming to small town is will she see the other parents? will it be a even mix of hate and sympathy between one half of the parents vs the others? normal people in the town will be much the same. how will they act now that Jacobs is somewhere else who is in charge now of keeping a handle on the ghost's?

“I don’t really think this is magic,” Steve gasps weakly. 

Billy licks his lips, a slow drag over his plush cupid’s bow. His chin is red from kissing, lips slick with saliva. Billy has such a pretty mouth that it should be illegal. Steve’s been fixated on it - the curve of it, the pink from the cold, that full bottom lip. Kissing that mouth has been heaven. Watching Billy do sinful things with it has stolen Steve’s soul right from his body.

“How would you know?” he asks, reminding Steve that before Billy arrived in Hawkins only four months ago that Steve had no idea of magic, or spells, or witches. Billy was born a witch on his mother’s side, enough magic running in his veins to cast curses, summon rain or have flowers grow right up out of the ground. Steve never would have had any idea of it, would have kept on living his mundane life, had he not seen Billy that night at the Halloween party. Shortly after that, he and Nancy had imploded. A relationship doesn’t work when both parties want other people.

It had taken weeks. Billy wasn’t quick to trust - not as a gay witch in a small conservative town - and especially with a father that despises everything that you are. To everyone else Billy dates around, a different girl after every basketball game. He’s the jock, the asshole, just the same popular guy you get in every high school.

But in the quiet of Steve’s bedroom, when they lie together on Steve’s bed and Billy casts glittering lights that dance on the ceiling, Steve can see who Billy really is. Something wild and magical, someone beautiful who wants to grow vines around his fingers and makes it snow in Steve’s bathroom while they lounge in a steaming tub. 

“I just don’t…you’ve never cast magic like this before!” Steve sputters. Because Billy is hovering over his bare crotch, wearing that smile and looking like sin. Even with Steve’s limited knowledge of magic, this feels more like foreplay.

“I've never needed to cast magic like this before,” Billy corrects, tracing a single finger over the delicate skin by Steve’s hip bones. The soft pad of a finger, followed by the sharpness of a long fingernail, weaving patterns into Steve’s skin makes his cock twitch. 

“Right,” Steve pants, feeling vulnerable and desperate and drowning in love all at once. He’s completely naked on his bed, while Billy hovers over his dick, closely enough that he can feel Billy’s warm breath on his skin. They’ve never done this before, not like this. The few short weeks that they’ve been officially dating have been entirely brief, frantic hand-jobs underneath their clothes, making out that has ended with them coming in their jeans. But he trusts Billy. He adores Billy. And he wants more than anything to have Billy know that, truly know that so he never doubts it. He needs Billy to know. 

Billy’s mom left years ago, leaving her small son with an abusive father and growing powers, all of his magic inherited from her. There’s no magic in Neil Hargrove but plenty in his son. That combined with her bright blue eyes, her golden curls, is enough to ensure that Neil hates just about everything Billy is.

“And this will make a bond between us, right?” Steve asks, because he’s still fuzzy on the details. He doesn’t really get how magic works, even when Billy tries to explain it to him. And tries, because magic is mostly instinct to Billy and the process doesn’t really translate into words. Billy had turned up this evening, with another dark bruise on his cheek, eyes glittering with fury and tears, and had crumpled into Steve’s arms the minute he’d crossed the doorway. Fuck knows what Neil had done it for, Billy hadn’t wanted to talk about it. But Steve had said anything and everything to the man curled up in his arms, just wanting Billy to know that he was loved.

It had worked, somehow. Billy wanted to do a spell, something that bound them together.

And now they are here.

“Right,” Billy agrees, and licks a stripe down Steve’s belly. The sound that Steve makes is something feral, a high wail that is pulled from his lungs. He wants Billy so badly that he’s red and leaking, and the mere idea of Billy’s delicious mouth on him has him half ready to come. 

“It’s something witches used to use for their familiars,” Billy continues, as though Steve isn’t spread out and dripping obscenely right in front of him. “So they always knew where they were and what they were feeling.”

“You’ll always know what I’m feeling?” Steve asks, trying to wrap his mind around it. It half terrifies him, sure that Billy won’t want anything in his heart.

“Not always,” Billy amends. “Just the really strong ones. Like pain or joy or anger. That shit, you know? And you’ll always be able to find me.” This last part is said quietly, hesitantly, like he’s not sure that’s something Steve even wants. Steve reaches down to wind his fingers with Billy’s.

“And bodily fluids are required?” Steve asks, because this is the part he’s skeptical of. But Billy gives him a wicked flash of teeth.

“Hey, sex magic is powerful shit, you know, Harrington,” he purrs, eyes turning dark. “That’s why we haven’t fucked yet, as much as I want to.”

“Oh?” Steve asks, heat climbing up his body. He’s clinging to Billy’s fingers like an anchor.

“That’s important, powerful magic. Not to be fucked around with,” Billy explains, rubbing his thumb over Steve’s. “Do something like that without thinking it through and you’ll lose control of it. Magic runs on emotion - gotta have the right fuel behind it - so I have to be prepared for the first time we do it or I’ll blow out every street light in the neighborhood or turn you into a frog or something.”

“That would be the weirdest fucking fairy-tale I’ve ever heard,” Steve quips and Billy snorts.

“I’m definitely not fucking you to turn you back,” he says bluntly. “So we’re doing this first, so I can get a taste of you. Get used to how you feel…how you make me feel.” Steve flushes and then remembers something. He props himself up on his elbows to look at Billy in the faint moonlight. 

“But you’ve had sex before,” Steve says, hoping he’s not about to completely kill the mood. Bringing up other guys this close to a blowjob and sex magic is a risky idea. “You slept with Tripp Heskin at the camp out by the lake.” And Steve’s gut had been squirming with jealousy, staring into the bright fire and knowing that at that moment Billy was being licked open, spread out on someone else’s fingers, moaning on fucking Tripp’s dick. Tripp’s an asshole.

“Yeah but that’s not the same,” Billy says hurriedly, brow furrowed with anxiety. “Fucking like that doesn’t matter. It only counts when I…with the person I…” He stops, the words going unsaid, but it doesn’t matter. Steve stares at Billy’s red face, trying to let it sink in. Billy loves him. 

“Oh,” Steve says, overwhelmed, and tugs Billy up so that they can kiss. Billy digs his fingers into Steve’s hips for balance, licking into Steve’s mouth like he’s starving. His belly rubs against Steve’s dick, the soft cotton of his t-shirt setting Steve’s skin on fire. Steve whimpers into Billy’s mouth, almost crying with the stimulation. Billy bites down on his bottom lip and shushes him, gently stroking Steve’s hips with his fingers.

“Not yet, not yet,” Billy whispers gently, peppering kisses against Steve’s jaw. “Save it all for me, yeah?” Steve nods weakly, tears gathering against his lashes. He chokes down another breath as Billy slides back down his body, clearly deciding that it’s time. Whatever conditions he’d been waiting for have been met.

I'm gonna start a collection of character questions that actually help me when trying to flesh out a character. These'll be for characters you already have standing out in the open in your head, but who need more development before they get mixed into the fray.

If you want to use this as a questionnaire, always remember that you don't have to answer every question to get to know your character. Even just one or two answers to yourself can be enough.

Character Development Questions

Basic-ish:

Do they have any distinguishing features? (the way they look, the sound of their voice, the way they smell?)

About how old are they?

What's their gender? Sexuality? Are they open or closeted?

What is their ethnicity/cultural identity?

What was their socioeconomic class as a child? And as an adult?

What's their role in the story?

What is their primary Want? Do they need it?

Family and Relationships:

What was their parent/guardian situation growing up?

If they're an adult, what is their relationship with their parent/guardian now?

Do they have siblings? If they're adults, how close are they now?

Do they have children? How old were they when they had their first? Who helped raise them?

What kind of influence are their friends on them?

How easily do they make friends and why?

What traits do they find attractive in a friend?

How do they treat strangers/acquaintances? People they like? People they don't like? Coworkers?

Personality:

One word to describe their general/default mood.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how introverted are they? Extroverted? Pessimistic? Optimistic?

How would they describe not liking a food out loud?

And in prose?

How would they describe not liking a person, out loud and in prose?

What is their favorite place and why?

What is something that stresses them out?

What is something that relaxes them?

What truly scares them?

What is something that would make them happy/excited?

How do they react to physical pain?

How do they cope? (comedy, ranting, art?)

What embarrasses them?

What are they proud of?

What's their biggest strength? Their biggest weakness? (they can be the same thing)

Additional History:

What are their most prominent memories?

Have they ever lost a pet, family member, or friend? How old were they?

Did they move around as a kid?

Did their parent/guardian/community support their interests as a kid? Were they taught to hold themselves to a particular standard or expectation?

More Detailed Personality:

How do they react when forced to do something they don't want to? Could be forced physically or by circumstance.

If money, time, and consequences were no object, what would their perfect day be?

How much time do they spend on their appearance every day? Do they spend more or less money on their appearance then "average"? (don't look it up; it's a vibe check)

Who would they turn to for help? Is it always the same person? On a danger/severity scale of 1 to 10, at what point do they start asking for help? At what point do they stop asking for help? Is this one section or do they flip multiple times as the severity increases? Does this scale change depending on who's around/available?

Just For Funsies:

If they were in a coffee shop AU, would they be the barista, the customer, or the manager?

Do they know any tricks? (juggling, cartwheels, yoyo, dirt bike?)

If they were here with us, what shows/movies/books/games might they like?

What does the inside of their fridge look like? What about their workspace?

• He met crutchie in the refuge and they formed a close friendship

• he's been keeping them fed by painting sets for medda but recently it hasn't been enough

• he’s quick to anger and a fight

•he doesn't get along with the newsies (think of their early interactions with the Delancys and that's kinda how the newsies treat him)

• His relationship with Davey is basically thier dynamic from “watch what happens reprise”

•he’s WAY too protective of Crutchie he's got his reasons but sometimes he borders on ableist (they resolve this eventually)
