French TV show recommendations :
L' Art du Crime (2017- en production) : -> A policeman teams up with an art expert to investigate art related crimes. Each episode is about a specific artist. The policeman knows nothing about art and the art expert (who works in the Louvre) often imagines herself having conversation with famous (dead) artists. One of my favorite shows ! If you like dark/light academia you might like this show ! ✅ : Art History, casual everyday French, ART HISTORY ! (Bonus point : The main actor) ❌ : The episodes are very long !
Fais pas ci, fais pas ça (2007-2020) -> If you want to have a good idea of what French everyday life is like, this is the TV show for you ! The show follows the lives of two completely different French families. The show started like Modern Family with the characters speaking to the camera before becoming a more "regular" show. ✅: Casual everyday French, really good insight on French culture, really funny, you see all the characters grow and evolve, the theme song is fantastic. (You also get to see the evolution of France between 2007 and 2020 which is interesting) ❌ : Nothing extraordinary is really happening, you get an idea of French life, so it might be a bit boring.
Kaamelott (2005) : -> "Based on the Arthurian legends, it followed the daily lives of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table in Camelot." This is a comedic show, I feel like French people either HATE or ADORE this show, there is no in between. One of my favorite shows ! ✅ : Hilarious + knowing this show will make you sound extremely cultured to French people. ❌ : Not only do you need a good French level for this one (a lot of Knight related vocabulary I guess) but also some ...French humor ? I don't know if foreigners might like this one ...
Bref. (2011) : -> Web-serie, the episodes are super short. During each episode the narrator, a Parisian guy tells you about specific events in his life. The way it's shot is really interesting. ✅ : Casual French + slang, very short episodes ❌ : The main character is, in my opinion, kind of annoying
Le Visiteur du Futur (2009) : -> A man coming from the Futur, trying to save the world from terrible things, classic right ? Well, his way of saving the world involves stuff like "stopping Clément from buying a sandwich at the bakery because he's going to fall in love with the Baker's daughter, and live a happy life and have a child BUT the child is going to join a far right extremist movement and become the new face of the neonazi movement and cause WW3 and..." This show was first made with the lowest quality imaginable, the makeup is NASTY, but the plot...the plot is fantastic. ✅ : Casual French + slang , you get to see the quality of the show increase ❌: The quality of the set is questionnable in the beginning and the humour is a bit ..."pipi caca" as we say in French.
Very Bad Blagues (2011) : -> Web-serie, sketches and parodies of French shows, (or French people) ✅ : Some episodes are hilarious, (some are maybe a bit cringy) ❌: Some parodies might be a bit hard to get for foreigners as you might not know the original shows or characters.
Bloqués (2015) : -> Web-serie, super short episodes. Two friends and a couch, each episode is about a different subject like "Si j'étais riche" (If I was rich) ✅ : Casual French + a lot of slang ❌: They make a lot of references to popular French culture - But on the bright side, if you look up every cultural references that they make you might be able to get a Master in French popular culture (I personnaly get only a third of their references).
L'Effondrement (2019) : -> During each episode you get to see a family or group of people trying to survive after the collapse of the society. No electricity, little to no petrol, shortage of food... ✅ : Casual French + Really interesting ! ❌: A bit "anxiogène" as we say in French (anxiety-provoking) because ...well... it could happenned exactly as it's portrayed in the show.
La Flamme (2020) : -> a parody of the Bachelor  ✅ : Casual French + slang , the main character is played by Jonathan Cohen who is hilarous ❌: Warning : French humour
Family Business (2019) : -> "The plot revolves around a failed entrepreneur, Joseph, who finds out that cannabis is about to be legalized in France. He consequently decides to change the family kosher butcher shop into the first marijuana coffeeshop in France"  ✅ : Casual French + a lot of slang , extremely funny , Jonathan Cohen again ❌: Warning : French humour
BONUS : La Demoiselle d'Avignon (1972) -> Koba, from Kurland meets, François Fonsalette, a French diplomat. They fall in love in France but Koba has to go back to her country. Missing Koba, François manages to get a job as ambassador in Kurland and Koba, missing François, manages to find a job as an AuPair in France... ✅ : Formal French ( French from the 70 sounds sooooo nice), really cute story + you get to see France in the 70s ❌: Nobody speaks French like this anymore, (unfortunately)
(Some of thoses shows are on Youtube in France, but I don't know if the videos are visible outside the country) (feel free to ask me for links)

When Everything's Made to be Broken - Chapter 10: What Keeps You Up at Night
Tumblr media
Summary: When Loki’s nightmares keep him awake, he discovers he might not be the only insomniac around.
Author's Notes: This chapter has a song-within-a-song/bonus song/song-ception (get it, like Inception, but with songs? Okay, I’ll see myself out). My parents listened to the vinyl record of James Taylor Live ALL THE TIME when I was a little kid (and that was when records were the norm - cassettes were considered “the hip new thing” lmao) and I fell in love with the live version of Sweet Baby James. The original recording just feels so stiff and rigid in comparison. Anyways, even if you don’t normally listen to the accompanying songs, I’d really recommend it for this chapter - Ghosts is actually a really soft, dreamy track, and Sweet Baby James is a delightful lullaby.
If you enjoy, please reblog!! I'm a lil' blog and reblogs really help me out <3

Song: Ghosts - Lydia
Bonus Track: Sweet Baby James (Live) - James Taylor
I saw Jesus on your back, he's starting to scream He's screaming no, oh, oh no, you've got to believe me So I whispered softly I got this girl here by my side, what else do I need? You got your wars up in their minds so they can hardly see But I'll be singing for free…
Nightmares plagued the Avengers.
Between the nature of their work and the baggage they brought to their roles, it was practically a prerequisite to suffer from nightmares.
And yet, for all the brains and knowledge among them, no one had devised a method to get rid of the damned things.
Loki tossed and turned in bed. The mad titan haunting his sleep wasn’t new, but for some reason it left his mind racing in a way he wasn’t used to. He was restless - stretching his legs out and contracting into a ball and twisting every which way in hopes of finding a tolerable position for sleeping. And yet, he could not find anything remotely comfortable.
Eventually, insomnia claimed its victory, and Loki accepted defeat. Uninterested in dwelling on his night terrors, Loki climbed out of bed; if nothing else, perhaps a change of scenery might calm his racing mind. Regardless, it was preferable to remaining in his quarters like a caged beast.
Loki stalked down the hall with a book in hand; in the dark, only the rustle of fabric as Loki’s clothes brushed together with each step filled the air. It wasn’t until he rounded the corner that he detected any sign of life - delicate, soft chords from a piano, coming from another room. Before he realized it, Loki followed the sound, each chord growing louder as he approached a door. When he was only a few steps from the door, he heard a lilting, floating voice dance above the music, though the melody sung was unfamiliar.
Despite the dark, Loki recognized his location - it was the entrance to Theo’s quarters. He stopped in front of the door to listen. Was it truly Theo performing, or was the music just recorded? The pitches and rhythms were far more precise than one typically heard with live music, and even without understanding the words, emotion poured out from each note. It seemed too perfect to be live, but something about the way the sounds echoed from beneath the door maintained a special sort of quality that could not be captured with Midgardian recording technology. Was this a recording, or was this what she sounded like when she performed?
For a moment, Loki debated whether or not to investigate. Would it be appropriate to knock on the door and satisfy his curiosity, or should he continue on his way, perhaps asking about what he heard at a later time?
However, barely a moment passed before he went from pondering the appropriateness of knocking to debating if he was even capable of social interaction. There had been too many nightmares and sleepless nights as of late, and he knew too well that the approaching anniversary of the Battle of New York likely was at the source. When exhaustion wore him down, he had a tendency to be rather irascible; pressing that upon someone else would be cruel.
Immersed in the jumbled mass of thoughts, Loki was so distracted that he did not notice the sudden absence of piano, or the footsteps approaching.
At the sudden movement of the door swinging open, Loki startled. Across its threshold, Theo offered an inquisitive look.
“I thought I sensed your magic.” Theo offered a quick, sheepish smile before glancing down the darkened halls. “Did I wake you? I’m sorry - I can be quieter.”
“No… I couldn’t sleep,” Loki admitted, keeping his voice low. “I heard something coming from your quarters while on my way to the sitting room to read. I was debating whether to investigate the source.”
“Ah,” Theo nodded, then pursed her lips. “Do you want to come in? It looks like you were going to go read on your own, but, uh, sometimes company can be nice when you can’t sleep.” She stepped a bit further into the hall, still watching Loki.
Loki paused for a moment, unsure of whether to accept her offer. If she was inviting him to join, she likely had no intention of seeking out sleep herself. He might be expected to carry on a conversation. With how tired he was and the tempest in his mind, the risk of his shortened temper rearing its ugly head was high enough that he wondered if entering would put the tentative friendship they struck up at risk.
“We don’t have to talk - you can read your book and I’ll go back to playing piano–” Theo stammered, her eyes widening as she spoke. “– Or you don’t have to come in. Sometimes people like to be alone. No pressure.”
Ultimately, the friendly, nervous look she held was enough to draw him in.
Attempting to give the impression that he was not taken aback by her offer, he simply shrugged and nodded, then allowed Theo to lead him into her quarters.
Each team member’s quarters provided a unique snapshot into who they were, and Theo’s quarters were no exception. Stepping inside, Loki took the opportunity to soak in every detail. What he found was a far cry from what he expected – in fact, it seemed to be a sharp departure from how she presented herself around other people whatsoever.
Soft, golden light bathed the room, creating a relaxing ambiance. Notes of vanilla and something spiced filled the air, likely from the assortment of candles strewn about the room.
In one corner of the sitting room stood an upright piano, with sheet music scattered across the top and stacked next to the piano bench. Perched atop the piano was a turquoise vase full of sunflowers - the combination seemed familiar to Loki, although he couldn’t quite place it.  Next to her window, a drawing table sat covered in sketch pads, paint tubes, paint supplies, and pencils, while an easel sat to the left with what appeared to be a first layer of paint.
Along one wall, a trio of guitars hung; below the guitar trio, there were shelves with assorted cases, stands with instruments, and assorted microphones, as well as crates of records and a record player. Her shelves were jammed full of books that had post-it notes marking pages. Loki couldn’t help but smile at the sight of a book open on the coffee table, pages filled with notes scrawled in the margins.
Unlike her wardrobe, her space burst at the seams with rich, vivid color - a deep teal sofa sat in the center of the room atop a burgundy Turkish rug, while bright paintings adorning the saffron yellow walls. Throughout the room, wildflowers in vases decorated various surfaces, while lush plants hung from the ceiling by elaborately knotted macrame hangers. Draped across the sofa was a thick, plush, forest green blanket, while a rust orange throw pillow sat in the corner; based on their position, it looked like Theo spent most of her time sleeping on the sofa.
Loki picked up the pillow and raised an eyebrow at Theo.
“What? It’s a comfy couch for naps.” She shrugged before turning away from and sitting down at the piano bench. Loki set the pillow aside before taking a seat of his own, stretching his legs out and opening his book.
“Your quarters are very… vibrant.” Loki observed.
“You sound surprised.” Theo chuckled, turning to give him a bright smile - something he hadn’t seen much of. Many clever, wry, and playful smiles - but not one that was bright.
“I simply wasn’t expecting quite so much color.” He shrugged, allowing his eyes another tour of the space.
“I think I have enough color in here to make up for the rest of the tower’s lack of color.” Theo laughed, spinning around on the piano bench to face him. “I wanted a place that would make me feel happy. So when I was told I could design my own suite, I tried to think of things that would lift my spirits - and well, it’s hard to be sad when you’re surrounded by rich colors and things that feel cozy.”
“How did you decide what elements to include?”
“I tried to think of good memories.” She gave a shy smile, pointing to the plants. “My roommate in college was a huge plant person - had dozens of plants in our cramped dorm room. I loved my high school art classes, which introduced me to my favorite painter, so I tried to pick colors that he would use in his paintings.”
“And who is your favorite painter?”
“Van Gogh.” Theo smiled, pointing at a book on the coffee table. “Post-impressionist. He’s amazing.”
Loki nodded, continuing to absorb the room around him.
“I see…” Loki trailed off. “Well, it certainly is a cozy space.”
Theo beamed. “It’s my little oasis.”
After a beat, Theo spun back to the piano, leaving Loki to read. Even without discussion, the discord that plagued Loki was long forgotten, instead replaced with a sense of peace that felt almost foreign. Frankly, there weren’t many places that Loki could think of that felt quite so comfortable.
Eventually, his attention fell to a pair of curtains. While each Avenger’s quarters was unique, they all shared a similar layout, which meant Loki knew where all the doors and windows were located; there should not have been any doors or windows where the curtains fell.
“What is behind those curtains?”
Theo stopped playing for a moment and glanced over her shoulder.
“The secrets of the universe.” She shrugged casually, her nonchalant tone a pleasant change from her usual wariness. “Jokes aside, it’s a portal to my grandma’s farm. She lives far enough away that even taking an airplane to visit her would take a full day, and she needs a lot of help keeping up the place. Keeping a portal like this makes it easy to go back and forth between places quickly, especially if there’s an emergency.”
Once she resumed playing, it wasn’t long before Loki’s eyes began to droop. Meanwhile, Theo’s fingers danced across the keys; after a little while, Loki caught her singing softly.
“Now the first of December was covered with snow / yes and so was the turnpike between Stockbridge and Boston / now the Berkshires seemed dreamlike on account of bad frosting / with ten miles behind me, and ten thousand more to go, you know…”
She played with such tenderness, each note tumbling from the piano with delicacy as her voice floated through the air. Listening to her play felt like he was being let in on some kind secret – he didn’t even need to listen to the words to get a sense of what the songs were meant to be about.
“There’s a song that they sing when they take to the highway / a song that they sing when they take to the sea / a song that they sing of their home in the sky / maybe you can believe it, if it helps you to sleep / but singing seems to work fine for me…”
Despite his best attempts to stay awake, he began to slide down to lay on the couch as he read. It wasn’t long before Loki’s eyes fluttered close, resting his book on his chest. He told himself that he was just taking a moment to soak in the music. After all, Theo was incredibly talented, and the music was far more effective at soothing his weary mind than reading.
“So goodnight all you moonlight ladies / and rockabye sweet baby James / deep greens and blues for the colors I choose / won’t you let me go down in my dreams / and rockabye sweet baby James…”
He may not have been ready to sleep, but for once sleep won him over.
I just followed the birds right to the coast Hoping she would follow my footsteps like some kind of ghost Whispering close We're not here for long, let's live for this week ‘Cause I'm so goddamn sick of losing my sleep Yeah, she'll be my defeat
There was an Asgardian prince out cold on Theo’s couch.
The realization seemed almost absurd - Theo nearly laughed aloud when she considered the situation in that way. Most of her life seemed absurd, to be fair, but this was one of the absurd moments that seemed almost funny.
In a less absurd sense, her friend crashed on her couch.
It was nowhere near a surprise to find Loki lurking about the halls late at night - given the number of times they hung out after Theo finished work, Theo kind of assumed Loki was a night owl. But something about the bags that hung beneath his eyes and the hint of tension wound up in his shoulders gave Theo the sense that Loki’s nocturnal tendencies weren’t exactly his preference.
That was to say, Theo suspected that Loki had nightmares.
Nightmares were a phenomenon Theo intimately understood. Beyond experiencing more than her fair share of them, she learned about the neurological and psychological processes behind them as a student. Sometimes it was comforting to think about nightmares in a clinical sense - having an explanation that removed the emotion from the experience made it easier for Theo to distance herself from what waking up in a complete disarray actually felt like.
Silently rising to her feet, Theo carefully retrieved the book from Loki’s chest, jotting a quick note on a piece of paper before using the note to mark the page. With the book deposited safely on her coffee table, she covered Loki with the blanket that sage left draped on the couch. Loki didn’t look like he was going anywhere, so it seemed like the polite thing to do. She stole a glance at his face, but found her gaze lingering. Inky black curls spread on the velvet pillow, porcelain skin that held no tension, the perfect pout of slightly open lips - it was something out of a renaissance painting.
If it hadn’t been weird, she’d have taken a picture so she could try and paint it later, but he was, at best, a friend - the request would have certainly creeped him out.
A quiet snore interrupted the thought.
Yes, the prince was definitely out cold.
With a quiet sigh, Theo returned to her seat and resumed playing. She let her fingers dance along the keys, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath as she tried to steady herself.
She wasn’t sure where the impulse came from to invite him in, but once the offer tumbled from her mouth she knew there was no turning back. Really, she was lucky he fell asleep so fast, because she wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to have a conversation.  A gnawing, frenetic energy had been collecting in her chest ever since she moved into the tower, and trying to explain it would have been a nightmare in itself.
After three nights of waking up in a cold sweat, heart pounding in her chest and gasping for air, Theo’s solution was simply to avoid sleep.
Was it healthy? Absolutely not. Would it come back to bite her in the ass later on? Of course it would. But for the time being, it was better than the alternative.
She had, at one point, debated using the portal to go home - sit out on the dock, stare at the Michigan skies. But that carried the risk of running into Max or Mémère, and they would immediately know what she was trying to do. Max would remind her that she was a doctor and she knew better, that she had to take care of herself and practice what she preached, all in a tone that danced between exasperated and condescending. Mémère would take a different approach - she would try to inquire about what the nightmares were about, try to make sense of them. The woman was a seer, so it was inevitable that she’d try to divine something from the nightmares.
Theo regularly tried to remind Mémère that seeing and divination were not powers she inherited, but oftentimes Mémère would offer a coy smirk and say something that would make Theo try to divert the conversation.
She certainly had a knack for making Theo squirm.
The first hints of sherbet in the sky came far too quickly for Theo’s liking. It wouldn’t be long before the rest of the world came to life, and she’d have to tamp down her anxieties for a bit longer.
In the meantime, maybe she’d finally make use of her balcony for her morning coffee, and for once try to actually enjoy the sun coming up.
Either way, she needed to figure out what to do so things wouldn’t be awkward in the morning.
‘Cause when I'm dead and I'm gone, Just burn me up to the sun I've got a couple more years here, I want nothing but you, dear When I stare at the ceiling at 5 o'clock in the morning I got one thing that's on my mind - got so much to do before we die  Yeah if I survive So live it up, kid, live it real good, As you should We both know, could be gone tomorrow So tell me what keeps you up at night,  Keeps you from closing your eyes Keeps you alive
Rich, golden light that bathed the room greeted Loki when he awoke. The first thought that came to mind was that he was not in his quarters; after a moment, the events of the previous night returned to his memory - Theo inviting him in, listening to her play the piano as he read… and then nothing. He must have dozed off while reading.
Despite how the first half of the evening played out, Loki awoke feeling as though he’d slept peacefully through the night, with no nightmares, no tossing and turning - nothing. Just peaceful sleep. Frankly, he couldn’t remember the last time he slept so well.
Loki glanced down to find the plush blanket that originally sat on the back of the sofa now covered him, and it appeared to have been tucked in, as if Theo covered him before she went to bed.
The concept brought an odd warmth to Loki’s chest.
Without any distraction, Loki used the opportunity to reexamine his surroundings. In the light of day, Theo’s quarters burst with even more life; it was as if the sun magnified new details in the elements which Theo pointed out to him the night before. The half-finished paintings in the corner shared stylistic elements with her favorite artist. Between the scattering of music, note-filled novels, the mismatched assortment of plants, and surfaces cluttered with odds and ends, there lived a certain sense of homeliness that seemed intentional in how it countered the often sterile, cold nature of the hospitals in which Theo worked and of Avengers Tower.
On the coffee table, Loki spotted the book he fell asleep reading, appearing perfectly at home amidst the assortment of items covering the table. Amidst the pages, he found a note jotted on a piece of paper and stuck between the pages as a bookmark:
“See? Comfy couch. :)”
Beside the book, he noticed another note.
“I’m on the balcony with two cups of coffee. One’s for you if you want it.”
Loki took the second note as an invitation. Once he folded the blanket and draped it neatly over the back of the couch, he made his way over to the balcony door and slid the glass to the side.
A plethora of plants, as well as a bistro table and two chairs, adorned the balcony; the contrast of the greenery to the concrete of the city felt lush, a true oasis amidst the urban environment.
Sure enough, Theo sat there, two mugs of steaming coffee on the bistro table. She hunched over the table writing in some kind of book, oblivious to Loki’s arrival.
He cleared his throat. “Good morning.”
Theo’s head shot up to find Loki standing there, watching her work.
“Oh! Good morning…” She smiled at him. “Sleep well?”
Loki nodded, stepping out into the morning sun. “Well enough.”
“You were out like a light,” Theo chuckled, a grin curling over her lips as her eyes sparkled. “Even snored a little-”
“Lies and slander.” Loki cut her off, trying to avoid the hint of a smile that was twitching at his lips.
“You did!” Theo exclaimed, now outright laughing. “You even had a little drool right there.” She pointed to the corner of her lip, winking at Loki.
Loki rolled his eyes. “I think I’d take my coffee to go, if you please.”
“Drama queen.” Theo pushed a mug towards him. “Grab a seat – it’s nice out here right now.”
Loki accepted the invite, sitting down and taking the mug from the table. Theo went back to writing in her book, occasionally pausing as she scrunched her face up in thought. Loki observed as she worked. On the page sat a grid, some parts filled in with numbers, while others were blank. Theo was filling in other numbers in some kind of a pattern – it must have been some kind of puzzle.
“Have you ever done a sudoku?” Theo didn’t even look up from what she was doing as she asked the question.
“I’m not familiar.” Loki hesitated, wondering if she might tease him for the lack of familiarity with this ‘sudoku.’
“It’s a number puzzle,” she explained, flipping to a new page and showing him a blank puzzle. “The goal is to have the numbers one through nine in each row, column, and square without having any duplicates.”
Loki hummed, studying the grid before him.  “So that would be a four,” he pointed to one of the spaces; Theo filled the space in. It didn’t take long for him to have the majority of the puzzle solved - he would point to the square, tell Theo the answer, and she’d fill it in.
“You learn quickly.” Theo observed, leaning back in her seat as she wrote in the final number.
“In certain instances, I suppose I learn quickly,” Loki corrected her, “There are other puzzles that I’m still learning to solve.”
Theo certainly was a puzzle - one that Loki found himself trying to solve. Perhaps that was what drew him to her: every time he thought he figured out something about her, she’d show him something new and a layer of complexity would be added to the mix.
Theo gave him a hesitant smile, glancing back down at her puzzle book.
“You’re reading the Blind Assassin - what do you think?” Theo spoke up, apparently familiar with the novel that Loki fell asleep reading.
“So far, it’s intriguing.” Loki took a sip of coffee, allowing his attention to move to the skyline. “Have you read it before?”
“I have - once you get through it the first time, read it again - it’s amazing how much more you pick up.” She glanced up from her puzzle, setting down the pencil as she picked up her own coffee and took a drink. “Atwood is brilliant like that - spins so many subtle clues into the story and so many layers. Everyone talks about the Handmaid’s Tale, which is good, don’t get me wrong - but I’ve always enjoyed The Blind Assassin more myself.”
This tidbit of information was certainly enticing - both regarding the story, but also regarding Theo’s taste in literature.
“I look forward to finishing,” Loki glanced over at her, smiling as he dipped his chin in a nod. “I’ll certainly let you know my thoughts.”
“What’s next on your reading list?”
“I’m not certain…” Loki shrugged, stretching out a bit in the chair. “Do you have any recommendations?”
“I might, but given you’ve been around for a millennia I suspect you’ve already read everything I’ve read and then some…” Theo pointed out, which brought a wider smile to Loki’s face. “Maybe you can make some recommendations. I’m guessing you have a variety of favorites that I’ve probably never even heard of.”
“Perhaps I will make you a list.” Loki said, giving Theo a quick wink.
After a bit more back-and-forth on literature, the conversation reached a lull. The bustle of the city echoed from below, creating a quiet wash of sound between the pair. They’d reached a point where they were comfortable with silence between them, and that morning was no different. Still, there was something about the quiet of the early morning, the personal nature of the space they occupied, that felt different in a way Loki couldn’t quite put his finger on.
Even if he couldn’t explain it, he found he didn’t mind. It felt… Natural. Easy. Comfortable.
Loki caught himself studying Theo. She focused on some spot in the distance, staring off as though deep in thought. Even though she offered a warm, bright smile to him the night before and some light, playful banter when he first stepped outside, as she sat in the morning sun there was something heavier in her demeanor. There was a certain slump in her shoulders, and the bags beneath her eyes were obvious.
She hadn’t been sleeping either. What was it that kept her awake at odd hours? Was she like Loki, suffering from nightmares? Or simply unable to fall asleep?
It wasn’t the sort of question he could outright ask - she would undoubtedly shut down.
“You are quite the musician,” Loki remarked, hoping to direct the conversation in a manner where he might glean something notable regarding her nocturnal schedule. “Do you always rehearse at such late hours?”
“I’m not that good, but thanks.” Theo blushed, but kept her eyes on the horizon. “I don’t always wait until it’s that late, but things have been busy lately and it helps me unwind… I figured it was my best chance at avoiding interruptions.”
He interrupted her.
“I apologize, I did not mean to–”
“Oh no, I invited you in.” Quick to dismiss him, Theo flashed a nervous smile. “You didn’t interrupt anything.”
At surface level, it did not seem to be a lie - and yet, Loki couldn’t help but sense there was more to it than simply not wanting others to notice.
“You play quite a collection of instruments,” Loki remarked, hoping the continued conversation might distance them from the uneasiness. “Most Midgardians only play one instrument, if any. Why is that?”
One corner of Theo’s lips quirked up in a smile. “Came from a musical family.”
“You have quite a bit of musical talent,” he observed, “Am I remembering correctly that you’ve been nominated for awards for your performances?”
Theo’s expression shifted to something more pensive. She leaned forward in her seat, resting her elbows on her knees as both hands wrapped around her coffee mug.
“I was a backing musician on a pop record.” She let out a dismissive chuckle, then brushed her hair back over her shoulder. “It wasn’t my talent that got the grammy nomination. I needed some cash when I was in my residency and a friend connected me.”
She wasn’t telling the full story, but he refrained from pushing the subject; perhaps at a later date, he could revisit the matter.
“Do you play any instruments?” Theo turned the questions back to Loki, a curious glint flashing in her eyes.
“I play the violin and piano, among other instruments,” Loki answered, “All nobility of Asgard were expected to study music in some capacity. Thor was an atrocious musician, but I rather enjoyed myself, so I studied a few instruments and vocal performance.”
“Maybe sometime I can hear you?” Theo suggested, taking a sip of her coffee. “You’ve now heard me twice - first at my band’s show, and last night. Turnabout’s fair play.”
“Perhaps.” Loki conceded. It had been a considerable time since he’d entertained an audience, and starting with someone with Theo’s talent seemed like a risky proposition. “I would like to hear you play again sometime, ideally on your own.” He gave her an earnest glance. “Perhaps not in the middle of the night though…I do apologize for falling asleep on you, by the way.”
“It’s fine - we both know sleep is important, and you looked pretty tired. Besides, I may have switched to playing songs that were good for falling asleep… So if anything, that’s on me.” Theo dismissed his comment with a smile and a wink. “And who knows? Maybe the fact you were half-asleep helped me sound better.”
“No,” Loki countered, leaning forward to rest one hand on her knee before he could stop himself. “I’m quite certain you sound wonderful regardless of when you play. Besides, you deserve to have an audience who’s awake for the full performance.”
Theo stilled, tugging her lower lip between her teeth as she mulled over Loki’s request.
“Maybe if there’s another day where the rest of the team is out… maybe then.” On the surface it didn’t seem like much, but Loki knew it was as generous as it was important.
Loki beamed.
“I look forward to it.”
Love, happy, my love Got this all in my blood Need her close enough like ohh— Love, happy, my love They said it came from above Ha, yeah that's where it's from

omg since you’re taking off todya from studying can we hear some of your beatle hottakes?
ughhhhhhh sorry, these are so hard to come up with these days
meta take: I sort of wish we could have a genuine conversation about the blurry line between wishful thinking/headcanon and more objective (or, aspiring to be objective) historical analysis – I get the headcanons, I really do! but just in the past year, there's been several instances of people in good faith asking about sources or questioning "fan favourite" anecdotes and being shouted down for "ruining people's fun". If you want to engage with this stuff in a more lighthearted way, that's fine! but accept that that's what you're doing. Being rude to people trying to get to the truth is not a good look. Your imagination can withstand it, I promise.
more people need to jump on the Day Tripper tinhatting train. shit's crazy up here
the more I listen to Double Fantasy the more I'm offended that a certain brand of John fan basically only names songs from 1970/71 as his best. ditto with Walls and Bridges…
Again And Again And Again: best Denny solo-written Wings song ( it's hard to gauge how much is him and how much is Paul for their collabs. Anyways, No Words my beloved)
Sexy Sadie is kind of perfect… The lyrics, the chords, the distorted doo-wop it all embodies that DISAPPOINTMENT so well. The guitar solo is great, the high-pitched oooooooooohs. No notes, underrated song for sure.
the Mind Games album cover is soooooo deranged but so fucking good. That and Ram might be the best post-Beatles album covers.
this isn't exactly a take but the SADDEST part of Hey Jude is when John harmonizes with Paul. I can't not hear all the unspoken pain.
I kind of hope we get versions of Free As A Bird and Real Love with cleaned up John vocals like Now And Then. I don't want to erase those originals because the audio quality tells a story of its own, but Real Love especially suffers so much from it. I listened to it earlier today and nearly got teary. "No need to be alone" kind of gives me goosebumps. There's something so raw and emotional about all three of these songs…
This is almost the opposite of a hottake, but it kind of Doesn't Matter To Me who Now And Then is about. It could be about Paul, it could pretty easily be about Yoko too, and a few people I've seen say they think it's about May, which could be too! It perhaps not being directed at Paul doesn't take away from the song for me, because the song feels bigger than just its direct inspiration.
On that note, I sort of think that sometimes people could stand to.... Die on fewer hills? Like, the notion that Now And Then could be about Yoko doesn't negate John and Paul's relationship or most things people theorize they may have gotten up to. Now And Then Release Week bonus round, cause it's been long enough to talk about it a bit:
Paul (and Ringo and George! they also have a writing credit, guys!) making editorial choices about John's unfinished song with the blessing of his widow is literally fine. "But John might not have approved–" yes, this is how death works. John also might have found the song embarrassing and not wanted it released at all. It wasn't on Double Fantasy after all! Or maybe he would have specifically wanted to remove the same bit! (which I maintain is musically strange and unfitting at worst and at best a still really rough idea that would probably require a lot of work in of itself – echoing the chord progression in the instrumental bit is the best compromise I could imagine)
I actually really get the George girls who were a bit bummed out by the rollout of the song. He DID get the short end in this situation! but… what would have been better? I saw some people say Paul isn't nearly as good a slide guitarist at George. Okay well then… So Paul should've hired a session musician? How does that makes sense? Paul should've asked Dhani to find some random guitar bit George recorded 25 years ago and frankensteined it onto this song? I'm asking this honestly: what should have been done instead? Because… I sort of got the feeling from some of the criticism that the only acceptable solution was to not release this song at all. And TBH I don't think George "getting the short end" is worse than not allowing Paul and Ringo the closure of completing this song. This wasn't perfect but again: yes, this is how death works.

I bought the game today and feeling so excitedddd 🎉🎉🎉
I wasn't able to follow the development from beginning to end due to some academic piles but now that we'll have a week off soon, it was amazing timing 💐💐💐
Backread Tumblr too and myyyyyyy
The collages of the RA ROs really hype up the story and allows a glimpse of seeing what MC is compatible with who
Speaking of compatibility, if it isn't much time consuming or a bother, is it alright knowing what qualities turn off ROs from romance (or what they least like)? Both for RA and Cdlc???
Also is it just me or do Javi secretly likes rival/ enemy to lovers???
Ahh thank you so much! This ask has been in my inbox for a while but I want to say congratulations for your week off and I hope that you don't have too much work now!
In both Creme de la Creme and Royal Affairs (and Honor Bound), some characters will break up with you based on how you handle some events that happen in the game. So there are some dealbreakers for some characters. But in general… the characters will absolutely go for MCs who aren't necessarily their usual "type" depending on how the MC treats them.
That said! Here are some aspects that may make the characters not enjoy spending time with the MC so much.
Creme de la Creme:
-Hartmann: being really rebellious, flouting rules (though they can find that a bit exciting too)
-Max: being a stickler for rules, telling them off
-Freddie: lack of curiosity or shared interests
-Delacroix: being dismissive about their occult beliefs
-Karson: being cruel
-Blaise: what they see as lacking backbone
-Auguste: being very "unpolished" without intellectual interests (eg they will go for Freddie because of their academic enthusiasm but wouldn't go for Karson)
-Rosario: being an overt snob
-Florin: being (as they see it) too intensely emotional, wanting a serious commitment quickly, causing them drama or discomfort
Royal Affairs:
Related: here's an answer about the kinds of people the Royal Affairs characters find harder to talk to
-Asher: doesn't like meanness, but, crucially, this doesn't apply to the MC. They can and do make almost any excuse for things the MC might want to do to those around them
-Beaumont: clinginess, lack of ambition/direction
-Dominique: being told off, especially someone being snippy about their flightiness
-Hyacinthe: dismissiveness, breaking social rules to be very outspoken
-Javi: gold-digging, manipulativeness
-Trevelyan: lack of curiosity or thought about how the world works (they don't have to agree - they like arguing - but if someone just doesn't care, that's a turnoff to them)
You didn't ask for Honor Bound and I hadn't announced it when you sent the ask, but here is a bonus round for them, hehe!
There are some plot events that equal dealbreakers, but let's wait to draw the curtain and reveal them...
Honor Bound:
Fiore: lack of manners/social polish (though they may sometimes find it fun to be brought out of their shell); being mean to or about their daughter
Korzha: lack of backbone or rigor (though perhaps they would like to encourage someone to have more backbone... hmmm)
Matia: they don't reeeally have many turnoffs and are pretty adventurous with who they'll go for (but under some circumstances they might see a very hapless person as more of a younger-sibling relationship rather than romance) (which is where they're at with Raffi and Savarel - not just because of age, because they'll romance a younger MC, but more personality)
Raffi: they are so easygoing that someone would need to be, like, really mean to them to be a real turnoff. They would hypothetically Hit That for almost any MC or indeed most of the adult NPCs under 50
Savarel: disagreement about moral correctness

Sketchfan85 one shot smut comm:Jagua Tales:Naked Night Spicy Times!!
It'd been another fun little girls' night in Jagua del Toro as always, quite an active evening time scene for a small resort island off the coast of some middle of nowhere 3rd world country within the Latin-American regions of the Caribbean. But certainly didn't stop the tourists from managing to find the place and come around for its 3 best qualities, that being the sun, the sand and the surf. And of course the delightful bonus being the bounty of fine sexy bitches on display providing plenty of eye candy for man and woman alike. or one trio of gal pals of course, it was home and and host to another evening of quality time with some small talk and plenty of drinks to go around.
If you were to ask their blue-haired surfer bombshell amiga Maya of course though, she'd definitely say her BFF Mona and their roomie J'D had just about a little too much. But really who could blame her for thinking and feeling that way when a walk home along the night time shore suddenly lead to a spontaneous round of skinny dipping!! Never let it be said that while she was an impulsive minx with a knack for mischief but she knew when to be a voice of reason and she was still sober enough to know she was not risking being seen naked around a public beach even this late. Okay yeah sure it lead to J'D and Mona teasing her plenty for being, as her cute sexy pink haired bestie called "A big chicken afraid to be seen naked!!" but not like she really wanted to give Cassandra a reason to verbally chew out her bodacious booty for whatever trouble this might get her into.
So of course she took her leave and left her drunk roomies be as they began having themselves a little playful splash fight, their giggles and cries of fun filling axing to the crash of waves on the shore. Pausing to look back a few steps to take in the view of J’d and Mona’s soaking wet naked bodies glistening under the full moon light, Damn if they didn’t look hot as all fuck. Ducking behind a rock as she decided to watch this unexpected free show a bit, sure she did have work tomorrow but didn’t mean she couldn’t enjoy the view, right? Little did she know that things were about to get spicy as it became clear just how DRUNK her roomies were as the dark skinned duo took a pause in their hijinks, currently kneeling in the shallow waters to give one another a look over.
J’D:”Your ass is so big and juicy, Mona….”*The DJ quipped sensually in her drunken haze, eyes becoming hazy with lust as those sparkling blue sapphires took in a view of that aforementioned booty. It truly was as she said, a sensual work of art that you could bounce a quarter off of. If she were to twerk, there was no doubt you could call her thunderbuns. Mona couldn’t help but giggle playfully at her remark of course.*
Mona:”Yours too. I want to kiss it….”*The sexy cutie purred as her jade green eyes admired that beauty marked set of meat buns. So toned yet bubbly all at once as they shook and jiggled above the sea water, the moonlight making it glisten with a hypnotic sheen. She couldn’t help but think her lips, thinking that maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea at all. Swimming to get around behind J’d’s bodacious boot as she cupped those twin flesh globes in her hands firmly.*
Before J’d could even wonder to ask what Mona was doing, she gasped slightly, as did Maya silently as The pink haired Indy model proceeded to do just that. Planting soft but passionate kisses on the DJ's toned bubbly booty with distinct smacks of her lips, especially giving a playful lick on the spot with her beauty mark. J'd of course was stunned speechless yet couldn't help but pant and shudder at how tingly that was making her feel before Mona paused in her literal ass-kissing, eyes half lidded sensually and twinkling with lust and mischief as she licked her lips sensually, taking in the view of her room-mate's pretty smooth pussy. That labia quivering enticinlgy and looking even more inviting than her tasty milk chocolate derrière, so much so that she couldn't help herself as she pressed her lips then and there to it.
If J'd had been shocked and surprised before, the sudden ambush on her pussy lips by Mona kissing it and licking away with her tongue was quite something altogether. Gasping and panting at first before she found herself letting loose with deep throated moans, mixing and being drowned by the sounds of the ocean waves all the while Maya continued secretly watching in with growing voyeuristic curiosity. Before she snuck a quick glance to their discarded clothes by the shore as she started to get a wicked little idea. One she’d implement after she felt she had seen enough of where this was sure to be going.
so she continued to watch in from her hiding spot as Mona ate out J’d’s pussy, the perky toned DJ hottie squirming and moaning in the water as the sexy cutie’s tongue worked its magic. For someone not usually into girls, she sure knew how to please one, made her wonder if that little nudist minx Tania was an influence. But goddamn if she wasn’t feeling so good right now but if anything it out an idea into her lust and booze drunken brain as she shot a sensual look over her shoulder at the link haired babe. Erotically biting her lower lip as she pressed snd rubbed boot against her face.
J’d:”Ooh naughty girl, if you’re gonna be like thst then let me at least return the favour….”*That got Mona’s attention as she ceased her oral meal oit curiosity before she found J’d taking her back a bit closer to the shoreline, their sea water soaked bodies flowing with a rich sheen from the moonlight. The pink haired sexy cutie giggling as she started outting two and two together as J’d guided her to lay down on her back while the J draped herself atop it, their quivering mounds in one another’s line of sight. The equally drunk hotties sensually licking their lips at the meals they were about to enjoy when at some unspoken signal, they proceeded to commence with performing a 69. Kissing and licking away at one another’s slits, tongues lapping uo the flow of juices with their tastebuds dazzled by the slight flavour of salt water.*
Maya watched on with voyeuristic delight as she waited for the opportunity to slring her devious little plan in action, after all no rush when the action was getting this good. Looking on as Mona and J’d ate one another out, deep throated moans escaping their luscious lips Especislly when they probed one another’s moist folds of desire with their tongues. Rolling along the crashing waves on the shore between being on top or side by side as they upped the ante of of intensity and passion by adding their fingers into the mix, two to three digits knuckle deep as their thumbs teased and rubbed their clits. Never let it be said that there was many a man that would’ve given their nutsack or sold thei soul just to catch a glimpse of this lewd little show.
Soon of course their gasps and moans thst filled the night air on this beach soon had a new tuned added in as Mona, currently on top, gasped as she suddenly felt a swift stinging smack to her ass. Thst juicy booty jiggling as she shot a look over her soul dear at J’d who had a cheeky grin, her hand rubbing that glorious ass before she gave it another slap. Making Mona moan at the mix of pain and pleasure running along her spine with a delicious tingle, it helped J’d wss well aware how sensitive her skin was. Before she decided to return the favour as she rubbed and gave the DJ’s sexy booty a smack, the rhythm of erotic spanking filling the ir with their cries of pleasure in the night sky.
The rhythm of booty spanking in this ever in motion 69 soon gave way to the duo fingering one another once more before they became a tangle of limbs. Groping one another's bodies with an inquisitive sense of exploration and a growing intimacy with every rising hint of familiarity until fingers and tongues were simply not enough. Soon the pair were scissoring one another with passionate intensity, their pussies pressed together in a different type of kiss as they rubbed and grind against each other. Filling the starry moonlit sky above them with thier sensual cries and moans, that is when they weren't busy making out with sloppy, tongue dancing kisses to swap spit and play tonsil hockey all the while unaware of their secret voyeur who of course finally seized her moment.
Instead Mona and J'd continued to be lost in thier own little hazy paradise of luse, fuelled by a little one drink too many and maybe a little of that twilight evening magic on a night like this. The saltwater splashing against their orgasming bodies as they pounced on one another once more, making out amidst assaulting one another with groping and heavy petting as their momentum brought their bodies back to around the shallow waters they'd started their spontaneous skinny dipping. The waves of their pleasure offset only by the wave of water that washed over them in the middle of their latest liplock as the duo suddenly found themselves brought back down to earth. Coming back to their senses just as they were breaking their latest kiss for air and feeling equal parts shock and confusion.
J'd:"M-Mona, what are you..?!!"*The DJ puzzled as to how and why she and the indy model were in one another's arms and apparently about to or had just finished kissing. The memories of what had transpired between them non-existant as the haze of booze had worked its bizarre magic on them. All she knew was one moment she and Mona had been having a naked splash fight and swim, the next they were suddenly experiment in acts of lesbianism. And from the look on Mona's face, the feeling was mutual.*
Mona:"EHH?!"*Indeed Mona wasn't sure what was or had been happening, let alone the how and why. Blushing brightly at the intimate position she found herself in with J'd, their tits pressed and rubbing up against one another and seemingly holding each in a romantic embrace about to or having just made out. Deciding best not to dwell on it as they pried away from one another and made their way back onto the cool sandy shores, suddenly deciding to rediscover their modesty.*"I,....I think we drank too much...hehe..."*The sexy cutie shyly remarked, her and the Dj blushing and smiling equal parts sweelty and nervously as their nude skin felt the night Jagua air.*
J'd:"Y-you're right, but nothing else happened, so let's put our clothes back on and go home..."*Least far as she and Mona could recall, nothing had to have occured between them in between when they complimented one another's sexy asses and suddenly found themselves about to or having just kissed. Leaving their footprints on the sand as they aimed to put the rest of the evening and the unknown, to them at least, events that occured behind their thoughts. Only for J'd to notice a little something seemed off. As if something was missing.*"By the way...where are our clothes?"
meanwhile back at their Cozy apartment home, Maya lounged on her bed, comfy and casual as she held up and examined her personal prize. Mona’s cute sexy polka dot l panties in hand as beside her laid her bestie and J’d’s clothes, the surfer prodigy having snatched snd stolen them away while they’d been in the midst of their spontaneous skinny dip turned lesbian rut. Was it sneaky, underhanded and devious? Ooh absolutely but it sure was funny as hell at the same time and worth whatever karma would come her way.
Maya:*A cheeky smile on her freckled face as she basked in some self satisfaction.*”You’re a bad girl, Maya, such a bad, bad girl….”*Suffice to say, it was quite the time the duo had trying to make it back home in the nude, even late as it was in Jagua. But yes indeed they certaimly made sure to get their payback on Maya in the morning. Hey live by the sword, die by the sword, after all they say revenge is sweet and how sweet it is….*

On team preferences: degradation vs praise. Giving or receiving. Your thoughts? Personally I believe that Scout is firmly in camp degradation (giving) and that Sniper is in camp praise (receiving), but I haven't thought much about anyone else when it comes to this
Sticking this under a cut WOO
Scout: You're correct. He degrades people. He's the whitest man to ever live so it's disgusting you might as well be having sex with Jesse Pinkman. His idea of praise is the Benny from Fallout sex scene lines ("That was a nice bit of hey-hey, girlie, you're a real ring-a-ding broad!"). I don't believe in kinkshaming but I'm shaming you if you're into that
Soldier: Gives and receives praise, gives and receives degradation. The ultimate switch. Given that he calls Zhanna "you piece of garbage" when trying to console her about her missing hand (which she's into, remember), I think what constitutes as "praise" in his mind might be a little skewed, but he's not afraid to degrade you into dropping and giving 20 pronouns. He sexily punishes you by making you peel potatoes
Pyro: Pyro is like peak "mean, giggly dom" in my mind (next to Medic, of course), inverts praise into degradation and degradation into praise in my mind. When they call you a stupid dog it's said in a tone of utter adoration
Demo: Receives praise, gives degradation, but lightly. I feel like "degradation" is too strong of a word for what I imagine him doing, I guess "teasing" is more accurate. Very "is that all you got?" type of bottom. This is my blog tho so can I just say he still calls Sniper a good boy
Heavy: Depends greatly on the person. Would most certainly degrade me for being short and that's all I've ever wanted in my entire life
Engie: Praises you so excessively and smotheringly it just starts feeling like degradation. Makes you squirm. I think he's definitely a mean top but it's more physical than anything else. Engineering is a physical science, after all
Medic: Gives praise, gives degradation, receives praise (or more accurately, worship). Retains the ability to be VERY sweet and VERY mean. Praises you in the same way that the guy drawing your blood praises you when you do donate
Sniper: Just like you said, receives praise. He's okay with being teased, but too much degradation might end up getting to him. Clearly enjoys affirmation of his work quality, so why not his sexual performance too?
Spy: Is degraded by women and degrades men
BONUS LIGHTNING ROUND:
Pauling: Is praised and degraded
Admin: Degrades
Saxton Hale: Depends on your opinion on apes

Did I ever talk about the dnd lockpick mini game I made. Because I'm gonna talk about it again
The bare bones:
You use dice for this. Any dice. You can switch to a different dice any time.
Your goal is to get to the number 20 by way of addition and subtraction. With the results you get from the dice.
The nitty-gritty
Each mini game consists of parameters such as: A) Whether the character has thieves' tools, B) whether the lock has a modification (whether it's magical or not, or if there is a ward, or how complex it is), C) how many PINs the lock has
If you have thieves' tools (and you are proficient with them) you get to add or subtract your proficiency bonus in the roll. This has no cooldown and no limit (except for once per roll).
The PINs are the number of times you need to reach 20 to successfully pick the lock. Basically rounds.
The sum of your rolls can sometimes go over 20— this is pretty much normal, go ahead and start subtracting instead.
You get 10 rolls per round and if you haven't finished by then, you need to restart that PIN.
At the end of the PIN, when you have reached 20, if you have remaining rolls (like, for example, you rolled 6 times and got to 20, but still have 4 tries left), you get to keep what's leftover as a "round bonus". You can use this round bonus in any other round or roll, one time only. They stack. (Singularly. For example, if you're at 18 and you have a ±5 round bonus, you can't take 2 and leave 3. It only exists as 5.)
In magical locks, the round bonus does not stack. You can only use it in the next round or it's just gone.
When there's a ward, the character may take damage while trying to pick the lock. Each roll has a DC (which you roll extra saving throws for) and at the end of each round, you do a saving throw with a higher DC. If you fail, the damage is upgraded by one dice (and I mean that if the rolls failure penalty was a d6, the round penalty would be a d8).
You can also use the round bonus in the saving throw for the end of round damage. This does not spend the round bonus, though some DMs might choose to have it spent for extra Tension (TM).
In game, each roll is 1 second long. If you roll 6 times to reach 20, you've spent 6 seconds on that PIN. This allows for time constraints and extra tension in the story, perhaps in a heist and the guards are approaching.
It's surprisingly addictive. I've mastered the process and sometimes tried for speed-runs. I've gotten past a 10 PIN warded magical lock with no thieves' tools under a minute. I've ALSO almost died while trying to get through a 4 PIN version of that, WITH thieves' tools.
While some may complain that this way the utility of a Rogue may be compromised, I will tell you now that the biggest hurdle in this game is the d4. It is the worst dice. And with the bonus of thieves' tools, you get to slightly modify this number and save a significant chunk of time.
Also, the fact that ANYONE can do it makes it a better game. EVERYONE can do it. Sometimes you want speed so you make the Rogue do it. Sometimes it has a horrible ward and you want the HP vessel character to do it. Sometimes there's simply no one else available, and your Cleric with no thieves' tools has to do it.
And honestly, just play it by yourself. Try it out. It's fun even by itself. It's not very balanced (though I've tried to make it so with my limited dnd experience), but I think that is the mini game's best quality. Sometimes your Rogue will take 30 seconds on a lock, which your Cleric got through in 10 because they rolled two 20's in a row. It's like gambling— the more you do it and the luckier you are, the more fun it is.

wrt to the ask before this about Greek nationalism, I feel so, sooooo out of the loop in terms of having a connection to Greece like that because my dad, grandparents, and both sides of their entire family are from Istanbul/Cappadocia and left in the 60s for Canada, rather than to Greece with the rest of the 1920s population exchange. No one in my direct family has ever lived in Greece!!! My cousins' grandparents were exchanged so their memories are pretty typically Greek (to me) but my dad/grandparents NEVER lived in Greece as adults, never had Greek citizenship even(!!!), despite being Greek enough to be targets of rising Turkish nationalism. so I'd be at diaspora events and people were like yeah we go to Athens every other summer, the iiiiiiiiiiislands, etc. and I'm like uh....so what's up with Prinkipos :D and no one could relate. i'm also gay so between the not!Greek-ing correctly and the not!religiously accepted, it's kind of very awful :)
many Greeks in Greece 🤝 you: not traveling outside our country of residence and only seeing the Greek islands on posters + not accepted by the religion + feeling strangers to their Greekness/tradition (because of modernization and Americanisation)
Bonus round:
many Greeks in Greece 🤝 you: not having visited the places our family were expelled from
hope that made you feel right at home.....? /j 😂
(I assume you didn't travel there by the ask's wording. Please correct me if I am wrong)
It could be worth visiting north Greece if you can. Since many cities there have 70-80% descendants of Anatolian immigrants, you might feel some connection and build something on it for your identity.
I understand that even Greeks in Greece are at least united by a few more things (hatred for Koulis let's say) and don't face the same identity crisis as you. Yours doesn't sound like a nice predicament to be when you are searching for your identity and not even "your community" can provide a sense of belonging :/ So you are kinda "on the air", as we say here.
Your family is also more "Greek Anatolian" (incl. East Thrace) than "Greek from the mainland/islands" or "Greek from Cyprus", hence that makes you a minority from what I gather. Which is kinda similar to Anatolian Greeks coming to the mainland in 1920 and finding themselves among people they couldn't relate to in many ways. Only you are experiencing it on veeery foreign soil a few generations later, so extra suffering points for that 😬
The good thing is, the Anatolian Greeks made it. They built a future out of nothing in an environment that called them "Turk seeds", and their children lacked nothing in education and upholding Greekness compared to the rest of Greece. Their offspring is also rumored to be the most courteous, generous, cosmopolitan and laid-back people in the country. I don't think it has so much to do with the soil the Anatolian Greeks went after their expulsion because with these qualities you have the potential to excel anywhere. I trust there were some of these good elements in your upbringing (even subconsciously). So you will, too, shine with your type of Greekness and with whatever you have in your arsenal, even when your environment looks estranging.

Do you reckon Louis is feeling generous enough to release more bonus songs for the next single cds like SBAS with BTM?
As disappointing as the BTM promo has been, I don’t think the next single will have the same kind of promo or push that Bigger Than Me has.
If Walls schedule is any indication, Louis might release a “singles version” of the next single that cannot be counted toward album charting (biggest 🧐🙄 about the DLIBYH “singles version” that was virtually — but not quite— identical to the album version).
(The only other version of any Walls song I want is the acoustic version of Walls that @LTHQofficial posted as an anniversary teaser.)
However, having so many bonus songs is already a huge blessing, compared to the twelve for Walls.
I know that Louis has said he didn’t want any fillers on Walls, and that he didn’t feel his other songs met his exacting standards to be included. However, judging by the quality of songs like All Along, Help, and Secret Heart (especially Secret Heart), fans will never hear a lot of really wonderful songs, songs that showcase many other facets of Louis as a person and a songwriter. Just as Saved By a Stranger let us see an aspect of Louis that we would otherwise never see, the well-rounded, tender, private person, so too on the other songs, we might be able to see other aspects of Louis: on Help— a young man who enjoys a silly night out— or on Holiday— a veteran who sees the boorishness of people trying to inch closer to fame.
Louis’ talent and intelligence are so acute, but he’s so humble about them, that sometimes he doesn’t really shine in interviews. Watching interviews from the Bigger Than Me promo, you would never see the person who wrote and sang Secret Heart or Saved By a Stranger (flip sides of the same concept, actually).
But he almost always shines in his music. So as a fan, I’m always hungry for more.

How to Make an A-Tier Tier List
I am SICK and TIRED of rubbish tier lists. I get that they're easy and cheap and often used as filler in a youtube channel, but so many are SO BAD when they can actually be really good and informational! So I am going to make a GUIDE on how to make a Tier List video that people will watch and respect, EVEN IF they think your opinion is garbage!
This will not save you from angry comments, but if you do it right people will care about your tier list enough to leave angry comments.
STEP 1: DEFINE THE LIST
You can make tier lists based on literally anything, so it's important to define WHAT you're basing the tier list on. For video games, for instance, are you judging in general across all levels of play? Or exclusively high end? Even if you're focused on high end, are you focused on hypothetically ideal play? Or average pro skill level? Or what? That might impact the list's outcome!
STEP 2: DEFINE THE TIERS
Okay bucko, if you just put down a tier list of S through F for me I will have so much trouble parsing actual quality information from it. Is A tier 'needs nerfs badly' or just 'An acceptable meta'? Is D tier where Bad Stuff starts? Or do Ds get Degrees? Is C decent or just meh? Bonus points if you actually DEFINE each tier. For instance:
Great (Excels in all situations) Good (Acceptable in all situations and/or Excels in niche situations) Situational (Acceptable in in niche situations) Adequate (Functions in niche situations, but not notably well) Failure (Does not function)
See? If I were to put something on THIS tier list you would know INSTANTLY how much I respect it. It also encourages a more nuanced approach than 'everything below A tier is garbage'.
STEP 3: SUBJECTIVITY DISCLAIMER
You might consider this mostly just covering your butt, but I cannot understate how this changes the tone of a tier list. Tier lists that are clearly built with a bias but claim not to be are aggravating. Include a brief oversight of your experience and point of view. Are you a middling player sharing your thoughts on the game for other middling players? Say that. Have you been playing the game for so long that you remember a time when the basic mechanics of the game are fundamentally different? Say that. This kind of context helps others understand why you're approaching the tier list the way you are.
You can make a subjective tier list. You always can. Just be clear up front that it's subjective, and your subjective point of view.
YOU ARE NOW ALLOWED TO PUT STUFF INTO TIERS
Finally! Now, if you want your Tier List to do rounds, here's what you have to do:
Clearly communicate the subject's location in the tier list.
Address, briefly, whether you have a personal bias and what it is.
Address why it is where it is on the tier list.
Acknowledge any major dissent you expect to this placement, and discuss it briefly.
Now, you're going to be tempted to at some point say 'but you all know why that is' about something or other. DO NOT. Remember, every video is someone's first introduction to a topic. If a bit of common community knowledge plays a major part in a placement (a scandal, a bug, a major mechanic, etc) at least call it by name so a curious outsider can enter into the space and look it up if they feel the need. A tier list that just goes, 'Melvin is B tier, and only because of the MOOS tech, moving on,' is NOT satisfactory. Mention that, perhaps, the MOOS tech allows him to hit the DPS cap, and address why he's still only in B tier because of it. You don't need to go over the tech itself in detail, only how it impacts the placement on the tier list.
BE SURE YOU HIT BOTH THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF THE SUBJECT. I cannot understate how fast I bail on Tier Lists that are all strengths or all weaknesses. This is in part the 'major dissent' bit, but it's also a big part of where it is: why isn't it higher? Why isn't it lower? By and large, things in video games are made to be balanced or at least have interactions. If something really doesn't have any upsides, specifically say as such: that at least makes it sound like you're TRYING to be fair.
THAT'S IT. It's that easy! A good tier list can act as a microcosm of a subject, and especially for games that change a lot that can be very useful! Take, for instance, Otzdarva's killer tier lists for Dead By Daylight; as the game gets updates, killers move. Some of that is in response to balance changes, other is in response to overall game changes. This both gives a relatively short overview of the entire game experience and serves as a onboarding point for curious newcomers! That's how you do Tier Lists!

how to bully a beholder (or maybe not)
Beholders! Iconic, iconic. Let's surgically remove their will to live.
The key is that almost all their offensive potential comes from their Eye Rays - but they can only blast targets they can see. Therefore, naively speaking, a simple cast of, for example, Blindness while outside their Antimagic Cone would almost cripple them, leaving them only with a pathetic Bite attack. Made at disadvantage, to boot.
This just works.* Beholders actually aren't immune to the Blinded condition, nor do they have access to Truesight or Blindsight or Tremorsense, despite their much-vaunted multiplicity of eyes. The moral in this case is clearly quality over quantity.
Blindness isn't perfect, however; your victim gets a save on cast, and then more saves every turn thereafter, giving them a lot of opportunities to break out of it. Beholders actually don't have as unfairly good Con saves as you might expect, so Blindness isn't even that bad, but nevertheless we might want something better.
Enter Fog Cloud.
Fog Cloud is, like all the best battlefield control, saveless. You cast it and the world is just heavily obscured now, impossible to see into, and there's nothing your enemies can do about it. (unless they have Counterspell, or Dispel Magic, or break your concentration, but shh).
'But wait,' I hear you say. 'What about Antimagic? Shouldn't the Antimagic Cone cut right through it?'
Indeed, the Antimagic suppresses the Fog Cloud wherever it overlaps; but critically it does not dispel the spell altogether. The only effect is to give the Beholder a small region in which it can see, but which separately suppresses its own Eye Rays. In fact, this can work to your advantage: martial characters can take advantage of the convenient break in the fog to get right up to the Beholder and smash them in the face while they can see.
It's worth noting the Beholder can, unfortunately, simply fly out of the AOE; therefore it's definitely worth upcasting Fog Cloud for a larger AOE, or using alternatives like Darkness (you can pick it up and move it) and Sleet Storm (an enormous area of effect). Still, it's very fun that a 1st level spell almost perfectly counters a Beholder for at least one round.*
(Bonus points for convincing a party member to just grapple the beholder; they are really not especially strong.)
Tumblr media
*Time to get really cursed.
Unfortunately, there is one problem with all that I have outlined above. It is technical, incredibly obscure and in its full glory has significant effects on how Beholder encounters go.
It goes like this: a Beholder's Antimagic Cone is an effect whose area of effect is a cone (shocker). But the rules for areas of effect actually state that 'A cone's point of origin is not included in the cone's area of effect, unless you decide otherwise.'
Therefore, a Beholder can choose to include themselves in their own Antimagic Cone - and so completely suppress every magical effect that would target their space.
So, whether or not a Beholder actually has you in its Cone, it is immune to whatever magic you want to throw at it so long as it has its Cone up at all, and knows the rules well enough to include itself.
Blindness? Yup. Hunger of Hadar. Yup. Spirit Guardians? Hypnotic Pattern? Yes and yeah. They still won't be able to target things in heavy obscurement or darkness, but RAW Beholders are literally just immune to Fireball as far as I can tell. Sweet dreams.

These NBA Round 1 Playoff Matchups Are Must-See TV
Tumblr media
1. Los Angeles Clippers vs Phoenix Suns
Really this one hinges on how healthy Paul George will be but with the timelines that have been given, there is every chance he will be back for the 1st round.
This series has the potential to be the most exciting of anything on this list and there’s a couple of reasons for that.
Not only is there the prospect of Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and Devin Booker, playing against Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Russell Westbrook, but you can bet on a very special competetive atmosphere because most of the star players are over the age of 30 and playoff opportunities are at a premium now.
Niether team has really had an ideal season and niether of them have really had their best players on the court together for a significant stretch, so watch the turnover count in these games.
Expect some very interesting adjustments from the coaches because every timeout will add a note of intrigue when Tyronn Lue and Monty Wiliams start making thier adjustments.
It really isn’t healthy to bet or try to predict a winner for this series, so whoever is healthiest is the favorite, but I think the boggets mismatch of any player on either team will be Deandre Ayton and I don’t think the Clippers have answers for him.
Give me the Suns in 7.
Tumblr media
2.  Golden State Warriors vs Sacremento Kings
The Sacremento Kings are in the NBA playoffs for the first time in 21 years.
For as good as that narrative is, and as well deserved as their playoff appearance is, a series against the defending champions in the 1st round.
For what it’s worth the Warriors limp into this 1st round on the back of what looked like it would be the worst season by a defending NBA champion in history.
The Kings are the number 1 offense in the regular season and at 25 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds per game, De’Aaron Fox is the great hope leading the Kings resurgence and ending a dark period of Sacremento basketball history of bad draft picks. Next to him is dribble-hand-off master, Donantas Sabonis, veteran shooter Harrison Barnes and my old nemesis, Kevin Huerter.
While the Kings are statistically the best offense in the NBA, the great achillies heel with young teams is typically thier defense, and that’s where I think the Warriors can turn the series.
Former NBA Allstar and full time knucklehead, Gilbert Arenas had some interesting observations regarding how the crowd would be split in each game of the series, noting how the Warriors fans would takeover Sacremento’s arena, and he could very well be right.
Yet another very hard series to pick and the Kings are so unproven that I have to go with the Warriors but I will be rooting HARD for the Kings in this one.
Prediction: Warriors in 7.
Tumblr media
3. Los Angeles Lakers vs Memphis Grizzlies
I am no fan, advocate, admirer or kin to any Laker or thier fans, but the quality of this post season is greatly improved by the presence of LeBron James, and that’s just objective facts and the idea that they have been paired with the flavor-of-the-month, Memphis Grizzlies, is even better for neutrals.
The Memphis Grizzlies are not a great 3-point shooting team and that along with Steven Adam’s injury, will likely make this a far more even series than what it looks like on paper.
This is going to come down to 2 teams doing most of thier scoring at the rim and if either team can have a hot 3-point shooting night it will be a bonus and also an anomaly.
Despite the difference in the team’s regular season records, it’s a much closer series than anyone wants to admit, and go ahead and call my crazy but I am picking Los Angeles to win in 7 games.
Dillon Brooks and the Memphis Grizzlies might feel different about the series, but I don’t think a team with 0 rim protectors is going to be able to overcome LeBron and Anthony Davis.
Lakers in 7.
