𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬/𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 ⚠️ : 42!miles x fem!reader, fluff, drabble, baking, short/shorter reader, directed at black readers
a little lazy, made it at like 5am so might not make sense
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Working at the bakery was your happy place. Something about kneading the soft dough while the listening to the gentle melody going through your headphones was relaxing to you. You couldn’t help but feel your lips curve up as you carefully frost a cookie, enjoying drawing the delicate, intricate little designs. Everyday when you clocked in, you could smell the welcoming scent of beignets being baked. The warm, cozy environment of the place made you feel at home.
One Sunday, as you’re ringing up orders, you look up to see a boy who looked around your age. He was so pretty. As you’re staring into his eyes you snap out of your slightly blissful trance.
“Uhm..hello?” He mumbles, glancing around awkwardly.
“Oh uh yeah sorry, what would you like?” you say quickly, straightening your posture.
“Can I have the strawberry pastry please?” He gave she a friendly smile. You noticed he had a nice smile. White, shiny, straight teeth.
“Anything else?” You look up at him.
He shook his head and paid. He then went to sit at a table off to the side, going on his phone and waiting patiently.
You pull out the fresh pastries out the oven, feeling yourself smile softly at the familiar scent of freshly baked sweets filling your nostrils. You place it in a little container and put it in a paper bag.
You walk over to his table and hand it to him with a smile.
He took in your appearance, admiring how neat you looked. Your light pink apron over your ironed white button up, hips pressing against the inside of the apron. The shiny lipgloss you wore bringing out your pink lips. Your voice was soft and sweet. Your hair was in a low sleek bun and the your welcoming scent of your vanilla perfume lingering in his nose whenever you passed by.
“Thank you.” He said with a nod, feeling his face heat up a little.
You walk over to the counter to work on more orders when you look in the corner of your eye. There sat the boy, enjoying his treat with every bite, savoring each bite. That’s what you loved about baking. Making people feel simply happy when they eat your food, even if it was just for a couple seconds.
Weeks went by and soon enough, this boy became a regular. You too bonded over things like reading the same comics or watching the same YouTubers. He truly did enjoy talking to you, bringing up “this pretty girl he met at a bakery” every conversation he got (since you live rent free in his mind). You even learned his name. Miles. Miles Morales. It had a nice ring to it in your opinion. Friendly small talk turned into full conversations, developing a tiny crush on him (it was not just a tiny crush 💀🙏🏾).
One day, while having your usual chat with Miles, you hear him say something under his breath.
“Do you wanna go on a date, doesn’t have to be nothing fancy.” He mumbled, his voice barely above a whisper.
You beam, giving him a bright smile.
“Of course!” You stop yourself, realizing you sounded a little too eager “I mean, sure” you nod.
Later, he even waited after your shift and walked you home, giggling and cracking jokes along the way <3 . What a gentleman?
Sorry I haven’t posted anything in a while, I just haven’t had any ideas in a longgg while.
feel free to give feedback !

More Designs!
Tumblr media
Jasper - Ok, I know he looks weird - he's just a happy boi! pls don't look too closely at the hands. So, I gave him big (and really badly drawn) calves becasue he's basically always doing some sort of exercise/work and Sage once said that he's the strongest, and we never really see his legs so I felt like showcasing those details here. Now his shoes, yet another thing that might look random, however I assure you, that these are what medieval workers use to wear. I kept his design relatively similar to his canon one, although I did have to give him a different hat.
Rachel - out of all the designs, Rachel's is the most historically accurate. it's a common misconception that women were shunned for showing their forearms/ankles but it was actually quite normal! married medieval women would wear veils and other elaborate headwear, however women who were not would either wear their hair loose or in a braid. Rachel isn't married so she wears it loose, I added a little braid that she puts flowers and decorative items in, to make her design a little bit more interesting. (and becasue its pretty)
Frankenstein - Frankenstein is really fun to draw! I don't exactly know why but she just is! She has this big fluffy pelt thing going on, it's made of a lot of fur and owl feathers, why owl feathers? because she reminds me of an owl, that's why. she also has big ol' snowboots because it snows in the swiss mountains and because I think it looks cute. you can't see her gloves but they are dark brown (fyi). she has these vials attached to her belt but they can also serve as an emergencey crystal ball - you know, just in case you have to conjure up some evil spirits, as one does.
Papa Lanyon - I think Papa Lanyon sounds way funnier than Lanyon sr. and it contrasts his serious face. I anticipated that he was going to be really hard to draw, but It was surprisingly easy. I liked his design until I had to colour him, I really don't know what happened there, I'm slightly annoyed because I wanted him to appear very cool and dapper, yet he really looks like a generic king. So this doesn't have to be his official design, he just wears fancy king clothes (it's not that important anyway because we don't see him all that much) he is wearing metal soldier-like boots, solely because I searched up outfit references and they all had soldier boot things.
Now that I've done this, I have no more excuses to procrastinate doing work for the other things in the au. Anyway I hope everyone likes these. have a nice day/moring/afternoon/night!
*just realised I forgot to colour their eyes, I'll add later!

Wow you guys really seemed to like the steampunk AU, that post got way more attention than I was expecting, so here's some more information and stuff:
-The world is still like a videogame that they got trapped in but now it’s a steampunk adventure-y type game with circus elements
-The adventures are probably a bit different
-They’re probably more like, fantasy adventure video game style things with like puzzles and fighting? Idk I'm not a big gamer I've never actually played any steampunk video games. What are those like?
-Instead of circus tent, there is a big wagon thingy that I'll draw eventually
-there's still not much of a story and I'm not sure If there'll ever be
-I'd also kinda want to make some mini comics for this au but I suck at coming up with ideas :/
Tumblr media
Pomni:
-She likes to craft things
-friends with Gangle and Ragatha
-still very anxious but less anxious then normal Pomni?
-has a very logical mind and is good at puzzling things together but also doesn’t do well under pressure and typically panics in stressful moments where these skills might be useful
-She can play the flute because flutes are good, they are the best instrument. (I am totally not biased just because I play the flute in marching band)
-My headcanon for regular Pomni is that she’s less anxious than she initially is in the pilot after getting used to things, like, beyond the anxiety, her actual personality is very cheery and friendly, also very logical, because idk it just fits her somehow? So yea, that headcanon also applies to this au
-but of course she is still an absolute nervous wreck because yes
-How else is she supposed to react in this situation
-also look at those fingerless gloves I want those
-the gears in her eyes turn when she is thinking
Gangle:
-Also likes crafting things
-friends with Pomni, Zooble, and Kinger
-she often borrows  sewing needles from Ragatha to sew her comedy mask back together when it’s torn, and also constantly tries to craft new ones
-She really likes her boots
-I don’t blame her those are some nice boots
-Ok wait a minute what if that little wing bow thingy on her head is actually a pen/quill that she can use to write stuff?
-ooooooh yes I like that
Tumblr media
Caine:
-✨monocle✨
-He can control the time of day with the clock that’s on his hat
-It’s a lot harder for him to heal injuries in this world, he can’t just instantly fix anything anymore it requires a bit more effort
-I’m doing this because I like when injury and pain and suffering
Bubble: um- idk it’s just bubble but now they’re a robot I guess
Tumblr media
Kinger:
-ok but what if he had a collection of mechanical insects? Omg designing mechanical insects would be so fun-
-The clock that he wears is broken but he doesn’t notice. And Time is irrelevant anyways
-damn those gloves are fancy
-they probably feel really silky
-and his robe is also very silky because mmm good texture
Zooble:
-They are a robot now
-also a mechanic/inventor because nobody else is and somebody had to learn how to make new robot parts
-their right arm can go s t r e t c h
-bonds with Gangle over their hatred of Jax
-they’re also kinda protective over her
-I lowkey ship them (this ship is so underrated)
-No but seriously why do see zero art of this ship
- Zoob’s in denial about their feelings and still pretends not to care because they’ve had such a “I don’t give a shit about anything” attitude that suddenly developing feelings for someone has caught them off guard cause they suddenly are giving a shit about something and they don’t know how to handle it, But if Jax does anything to Gangle they will rush in to protect her in a heartbeat and just try to play it off as it just being because they don’t like Jax BUT WE ALL KNOW THE TRUTH ZOOBLE JUST CONFESS ALREADY-
-ok that got way too rambly let's just move on now
Tumblr media
Jax:
-MY FAVORITE
-he likes shiny things
-He will collect those shiny things
-He also very fast because look at those LANKY RABBIT LEGS
-I mean technically that’s already cannon, did you see how fast he ran away after seeing abstracted kaufmo? He just z o o m e d outta there
-those keys on the chain are only a small portion of his collection
-his room is definitely full of weird steampunk knick knacks because yes
-He uses them to prank people
-the centipedes he has to scare/annoy Ragatha are mechanical
-I’m so excited to design mechanical centipedes I love bugs so much guys you have no idea I finally have an excuse to draw insects and maybe people will actually care because it’s fandom related now
-He does not like getting wet. At all. (this is also just a general headcanon for him but especially in this au)
-floofy
Ragatha:
-the seams of her fabric are prone to tearing so she always carries a needle and thread to sew herself back together. she's good at sewing
-My main headcannon for normal Ragatha is that her button eye is a parallel to an eye injury she had in real life before joining the circus, but in this AU she probably acquired the injury in this universe.
-she’s good at using tools and weapons but not in like, a mechanic sorta way like Zooble but in a defense sorta way
-like, she’s very kind and caring but also sorta tough and even though her body is good at falling apart, she knows how to use strategy to fight and um wait what would they even be fighting-
-idk I haven’t thought about that yet
-Gloinks?????
-do those exist in this au???
-wait it’s my au why am I asking this
-overall she is very, “tries to help everyone else and seems very tough on the outside but is prone to falling apart both physically and mentally but just gets good at quickly patching it up and ignoring it until it become too much for her to bear”
-pls help her she needs therapy
-they all need therapy
-I’m pretty sure we’ve all established that at this point
-but I’m just making sure you know that it’s still a consistent factor in this au

Uh… hi! It’s uh… me again.
Sorry for popping into your inbox so much. It’s just that I’m a beginner ceramicist and I’m fascinated and awed by your work. (It also doesn’t help that my irl teacher doesn’t know what she’s doing). I’ve got some questions about the way that you bring your adorable creechurs to life.
What is the method of layering clay and then carving out designs in the different coloured clay? I find it really interesting, tbh
Where does the process start? Do you like, start with a sketch? Or with like an “I want to make a cute creature.” Sorta vibe?
And uh, what kinds of glaze do you use? Any tips?
Sorryagainforaskingsomanyquestionsitsjustthatiloveyourworksomuch!
Have a nice day!
Hey, @drgalacticcandy! This ask (which please, never apologize for sending an ask! I love them!! Also thank you for your kind words about my work!) came at a perfect time because your first Q is answered by another ask I just responded to in great depth!
The technique where I carve out designs is called sgraffito & I just wrote a small novella about the technique here!
In terms of the creative process, it depends on the creature! Almost all of them need some sort of photo-reference at some point, especially the ones I want to look more like an actual creature that exists (eg. my bird ladies, the pod guys).
For things like the sphinxes and the ungulates, I did peek at some photo reference at the very start (looked at some cats for sphinx anatomy & lots of musk oxen & goats for the ungulates), but am now just going off of what's goopin' around in my brain. I do sometimes still do sketches for the designs I make a lot, especially when I want to do a new body shape, eg. this flying guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did quite a few sketches for the Puffin BirdLady because I'd hardly even drawn puffins before, let alone sculpted one, but other birds I'm more familiar with (loons, ravens/crows) I just keep some photo ref up on my laptop in case I need to check a detail & go straight to sculpting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of the simpler beasts I just go ahead and sculpt without any drawings, eg. the snats/slats (snailcats/slugcats) & the owlbears (tho I did look at a bunch of owl-face photo ref to inspire their patterns!):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do find sketching especially useful for creatures that require some new engineering, eg. the sphinx dishes or fishbutts in new positions, as doing the drawings helps me work out how the various bits will attach together or what issues I might come up against while trying to sculpt a new pose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And glazes...whew! I'm still SUCH a glaze newbie & really don't know anything about them yet. My usual tendency when encountering a new art adventure is to just dive in headfirst with minimal research and GO, which is mayyyyybe not the best with glazes??
And yet I still just see a pretty glaze and go OH HI I AM BUYING U NOW (with one caveat -- I always read the description and if it's described as a runny/difficult to use glaze I drop it and run because my sculptures are wee and I don't want any glaze floods in the kiln!).
I'm also lucky to have a really great kiln tech in my friend who fires my stuff who does actually know more about the chemistry of glazes, so sometimes I pass my flights of fancy by her to make sure I'm not doing anything silly. In terms of glaze brands, I love Amaco & Coyote, both of whom make plenty of beautiful glazes that are also easy to use.
For my sgraffito work, when I'm not glazing with clear glaze I put a variety of colours of celadon glaze overtop (most of mine are Coytoe brand). Celadons are translucent, so patterns will show through them - you can also do designs in underglaze and put a celadon glaze overtop & get some neat effects - below are some examples of celadons over sgraffito...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and celadons over underglaze designs...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know the glaze portion of this answer wasn't the most helpful, but there are definitely lots of forums & websites that contain loads of great info about all the alchemical intricacies of glazes! If you can befriend some potters IRL, that can also be an amazing resource for learning.
Phew. Why do my answers always end up so long?? I hope this was helpful & please don't hesitate to ask if you have more Qs!

another thursday, another protocol episode! i’m going to try and post my thoughts every week, so here we go! episode 6 bay-bee
note: I am writing this on my third listen :]
I totally get why EVERYTHING Alice says sounds suspicious but mannn this just feels like a convo I’d have with my friends. I just want to trust her so bad!! And I shall continue to do so :] though that thing about the sun sounded weird
Hmmmm what if one of the reasons Sam isn’t getting enough sleep is causes he’s researching cases/the institute at home, as to not alert Alice. Hmmmm.
NEEDLES!!! My boy, I love them sm. My fucking guy. I need to draw him. Michael Distortion vibes. This GUY!!!
Funny enough I had to sew in my 3D Design class after listening to this. Lmao. Needless to say don’t go away do they.
I would cuddle Needles but then again I might just be touchstarved /j
The holes!! Needles talking about holes and finding comfort in pain gives me major Jane Prentiss vibes!!!
“Half afraid of death and half afraid of living with what has happened to him” is a great line
“Huh?! Is that it?” Sam sounds so frustrated that it ends and he can’t find out more- major Eye vibes here. Like, I’d imagine Jon would react the same way. It’s that need to know feeling.
Lowri as Celia!! Nice to meet her!
“Make sure you eat them on site.” Huh. What does that mean Lena. Hey. Lena. What does that mean. Why would you say it like that. “On site”???? HM???? WHY CAN’T THEY TAKE THE DONUTS OFF SITE LENA-
Speaking of the interview… I need to post my thoughts on Lena… hm…
“Four weirdos in a basement reading scary stories” the og archives staff… i miss them…
“I don’t scare so easily these days…” hm. What.
WAIT WHATS GONNA HAPPEN WHEN CELIA MEETS CHESTER AND NORRIS
WAIT WAIT WAIT IMAGINE
IMAGINE CHESTER AND NORRIS SOMEHOW SOME WAY RECOGNIZE CELIAS VOICE AND TRY TO SPEAK TO HER
WHAT IF-
HMMMMMM
OR IF SHE WERE TO RECOGNIZE THEM SOMEHOW-
GUYS
I cannot tell if Sam actually fancies Celia or not- or if Alice just misunderstands
ALSO??? WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT SAM STARTING TO INFODUMP ABOUT STAMPS??? MANS WAS ABOUT TO GET HEATED OVER STAMPS??? I need him and Jon to meet omg they can just have Academic rambles at each other
“Staring into the eyes of your beloved” I’m getting UDAD flashback
“The Magnus Protocol is a podcast-“ FUCK DUDE, YEAH IT SURE IS

"I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my Krootox don't like people laughin'. Gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it..."
The Kroot with No Name
My favorite operative in my Farstalker Kinband Killteam, the Kroot Pistolier (I prefer "Gunslinger" though, it's easier to say, too!) is such an awesome piece that can do some close-range burst damage AND can even get a shot off on a quick draw!
Free-handing the iconic poncho design was definitely a challenge, when you really look at it the pattern is pretty darn complex!
More on the process under the cut:
I've always been a huge fan of the Kroot, so when their Killteam was announced a couple years back I was over the moon with excitement. I'm still in disbelief that they're actually going for an entire Kroot-focused detachment in 40k though; when that box is finally released I'm totally screwed. Anyway, when I picked these bad boys up initially, I had to put them all together in time for a Killteam Spec-Ops narrative campaign I was doing in a couple days, but I saw these two models in the instructions and my conversion-obsessed brain was already off to the races:
Tumblr media
The poncho on the Warrior was straight out of a Spaghetti Western, and luckily for me, the Pistolier's arm bits fit almost perfectly (with a little greenstuff filling). If I was going to go full-on Western, though, the hardest part was definitely making a convincing-looking hat.
I toyed with a couple different methods, but the most doable seemed to be sculpting a greenstuff "crown" onto a flat "brim" piece. The problem was finding a good material to make the "brim", though. In the end, I settled on using one of these:
Tumblr media
The humble milk carton pull tab! With some (somewhat) careful pruning, the thickness of these things make for a pretty believable hat brim at this scale. With a couple rings from a jeweler's chain because I had to throw in the Gun X Sword reference to accent the hat, it was done! I wouldn't finish painting the poor guy until wayyy later, but I got some fancy shaded priming done in time for the campaign, at the very least...
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading! If I can get my workspace in order hopefully I'll be able to post more painted models, since they're more fun to look at and write about. I need a lot more practice painting, too, so hopefully this blog can help me feel like I'm progressing in my painting ability the more I post on it.
I definitely want to write more on here about the Kroot, too, since they're one of my favorite aspects of 40k! Expect some more on them when I get around to taking some pictures of one of the bigger Kroot conversions that got me into the hobby.
Next time though, I think I'll divulge a bit from the mainstream Games Workshop beat and write about some cool miniatures you may have never heard of!

𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮
An Everyone Thinks It Oneshot
Tumblr media
Pairing: Chris Evans x fem!Reader
Summary: Chris takes you on a special date to give you a “just because” gift. Inspired by a PRECIOUS TikTok an anon shared with me yesterday.
Warnings: Stomach ache-inducing fluff.
Word count: ~800
✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ••• ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ••• ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿
“Seriously, did I forget an anniversary or something?”
All evening you've been racking your brain as to why Chris would have planned such a nice date night. Your dates are always nice, but not always dress up and make reservations at a fancy restaurant kind of nice.
“It hasn't been a year yet, I know that. So…”
“No,” he laughs, reaching his arm across the table to take your hand in his. As much as he's getting a kick out of your slight panic, he doesn't want you actually worried. “I can't just take you out?”
You pretend to consider it, but look back at him with a straight face. “No.”
Rolling his eyes, he takes his hand away from you, just so he can grab something he's been hiding under his jacket sitting on the seat next to him.
“Okay, okay,” he gives in. “I got something for you.”
“Chris,” you groan. It’s not uncommon for you to have to remind him you don't need anything. Especially when there's no occasion.
“And,” he speaks up to quiet your protests. “I really did just want to take you on a nice date. I feel like life’s been a little crazy the past couple weeks.”
He's right. But it's nothing you'd complain about. It's just the norm for you guys. You no matter and moved in with him, had a few good weeks, and then had to spend the last couple getting used to his place without him there while he was away for work. But you're well aware that's how it is sometimes.
Surrendering, you take the gift bag from him so you can open it. The bright blue box tells you it's jewelry – Tiffany, some of your favorite.
Untying the neat bow and slipping the top off the box, you're met with a delicate silver necklace with a pearl pendant strung on it.
“Wow.” You marvel at the way it shines under the light as you run your thumb along the chain. “This is really beautiful. But you don't have to make any sort of gesture to make up for working or being a little busy…”
“Just–” He laughs a little, holding his hand up to stop you. “There might be something else in there.”
You're confused. “What are you talking about?”
“In the box. Under the…”
His voice trails off as you lift some tissue paper and find another necklace underneath. Holding it up, you recognize the design of the pendant immediately.
“Chris.” His name comes out as a whisper as you pout, looking closer at it – a design you had doodled when you were younger now come to life.
It’s the outline of a heart, lined with diamonds. Inside the heart is a smaller one, the color of your son’s birthstone, with room for other stones to be added if you have more kids one day – a touch you had added to your idea as a hopeless romantic teenager.
“Do you like it?”
You can't help but let out a laugh. But looking across the table at him, it's a genuine question.
“I can't believe you remembered this.”
“How could I not? I remember you drawing it all the time when we were kids.”
Looking around, you sniffle and wipe away a few tears, letting out a deep breath to compose yourself. “This is so embarrassing.”
“No it's not,” he chuckles, getting out of his seat and moving to your side of the table to sit in your booth with you so he can help you put it on right away. “When you were moving in, I found some notebooks of yours and knew I had to get this made for you when I saw those drawings again.”
“I really like it.”
“Good,” he smiles, wiping away a stray tear for you. “I didn't want to wait to give it to you, so that's the occasion, okay? Happy now?”
He nudges your shoulder with his own to get you to laugh with him.
“Of course,” you nod, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Thank you. I don't deserve you.”
“Hey, none of that.” He knows it's just a habit for you to say those things, but he reminds you every chance he gets that it's not true. “I feel guilty about not being around all the time, you know. I kind of leave you here alone with everything.”
All while he’s saying it, you're waiting to interrupt him and tell him you don't see it that way. But he doesn't let you.
“But you're the best mom. The best girlfriend. Still my best friend for some reason,” he jokes. “You deserve everything.”

Dukexiety week - tattoo/florist
Author’s note: Here’s my submission for @dukexietyweek, I used the day one prompt tattoo/florist.
Writing taglist: @iclaimedtobethebetterbard
Word count: 798
“Are you sure about this?” Virgil asked, for the fifth time that day. He was wringing his hands as the two of them walked down the street to the tattoo parlour. “It’s just something I sketched, I’m nowhere near as good as a professional artist.”
Remus caught one of his hands, starting to swing it between them as they walked. “V, babe, you’re an amazing artist, you know I love your work. And I love you, there’s nobody I’d rather have design a tattoo for me.”
“Sap,” Virgil scoffed, hiding his face behind his hoodie sleeve, but Remus could see him blushing. “Hey, is this the place?”
Remus looked up at the shop they were passing. It was indeed Remy’s tattoo parlour, the windows filled with designs that his friend had drawn. “It is, come on! Remy will be excited to meet you!”
“I’ll be with you in a minute, babes,” Remy’s voice called when the two of them entered the shop, and Remus glimpsed his friend through the doorway to the back room, their head titled back to down the last of their coffee.
While they waited, Remus caught Virgil looking wistfully around at the tattoo designs Remy had tacked up on the walls. “Fancy one of your own? We could get some matching ones!”
Virgil snorted. “Yeah, right. Like I’m letting a massive needle anywhere near me,” he said, then he paused. “I’m sure this’ll work out great for you, though.”
Remus chuckled. “You don’t have to comfort me, baby, I’ve been here enough times before.”
“That’s true, Remus has been one of my best customers through the years,” Remy said when they finally emerged from the back room.
“Oh, you’re too kind,” Remus laughed.
“You want this on your forearm, right? As much as I appreciate your attempts to bring back some of the worst parts of ‘80s fashion, I’m gonna need you to take those off,” Remy said, gesturing to Remus’ neon green arm-warmers.
Remus let out his best offended gasp as he peeled off the arm-warmer on his left forearm to reveal the tattoo he’d been keeping covered since Virgil came out as trans a few weeks ago. He’d gotten the original tattoo pretty early on in their courtship – his twin brother Roman, who’d been through his fair share of heartbreaks and gotten a few tattoos of his own removed, had warned Remus that he might regret it, but Remus was happy to discover he’d been right when he decided Virgil was the one for him after only two months of dating. The tattoo was a pretty simple design, of Virgil’s birth name in a nice stylised font, surrounded by purple flowers.
“And the design for the cover-up?” Remy prompted.
Remus nodded, and took the paper Virgil had sketched the new design onto out of his pocket. Somehow, he’d managed not to get it too badly creased, leaving Virgil’s drawing intact and perfectly legible.
Remus had discussed the tattoo with Remy beforehand, and sent them a picture of Virgil’s sketch, but Remy still let out a low whistle when Remus handed it to them. “Damn, Virge, this is good! I should get you to sketch up some designs for the shop sometime.”
Virgil ducked his head the way he always did when he received compliments, but Remus could tell he was pleased with the attention. He’d worked hard on the redesign for Remus’ tattoo. He’d made sure to keep most of the basic shapes the same to make it easier on Remy, incorporating his chosen name with a few embellishments into the flower design.
“Yeah, I can work with this,” Remy said, holding the paper against Remus’ arm. “Sit down, you know what to do. We can get through this today, easy.”
Remus sat down in the chair next to Remy’s tattoo machine, and Remy sketched the new design on areas he’d need to change. Virgil sat in a chair nearby. Despite his aversion to getting a tattoo himself, he seemed curious about what was going on, and asked Remy a couple of questions about the process.
The tattoo took a couple of hours, along with a few breaks – shorter than most tattoos Remus had gotten.
When it was finally done, Remy wiped Remus’ arm clean. “What do you think?”
Remus looked down at the fresh tattoo of Virgil’s name, surrounded by purple flowers with added vines that looped around the letters.
“Yeah, it’s perfect,” Remus said, hoping how choked his voice was wouldn’t show, and tilted his arm to let Virgil see.
Virgil peered at the tattoo, a grin forming on his face. “That’s... that’s amazing. God, I’m still not used to seeing my name written down.”
“Well, you’re gonna see this a lot more often now,” Remus said with a smile.

 Previous Dresses: Scarecrow | Riddler, Ra’s, Two-face, & Penguin
I think this will be the last of my Batman Villain Lolita Post for now, with a few of the more challenging villains.  Again, feel free to make your own designs or use these in some way, the more the merrier. :D
A few thoughts underneath the read more + alt colors for Zsazs & Killer Moth
Black version for Zsazs to keep with his pants & classic Killer Moth:
Tumblr media
Pyg: I think he’s one of the most Devianart Edgelord of the Batman villains, but his portrayal in Arkham Knight was done well enough that I warmed up to him.  His plastic surgery nightmare face design is fun and the reactions of the victims & other people worked well, and showed Lazlo as terribly messed up instead of cool edgelordsona.  Like, you know, a person who’d exist.  Good job Batwriters.
Anyway I leaned towards the guro lolita + simple butcher look his comic and his game designs went for.  There are extra additions of frills for both a more “doll”ish look and a touch of ita, since tacky feels part of his character.  I didn’t want to just make a mask so I framed the hair as “pigtails” (what else?).  I think some make up would add to the look to make the doll idea and the pig idea go farther.  The pattern on the bottom of the skirt and boots is supposed to be those chain link people you can cut from a piece of paper that all hold hands, all perfect, like Pyg declares his dollitrons.  I’m not sure how successful the transparent apron is but at the end oft the day I like it and that’s what counts.
Freeze: This design might lean too much towards literal costume and less into a more practical interpretation of the design, but I can’t help it, I like the Tron and glowy stuff aesthetic.  Doing a retro futuristic lolita look was too fun of an idea to pass up.  Not much has changed outside of converting it to a dress and turning the gauntlets into Miku bell sleeves.  Snowflake earrings & delicate hair for Fries’ one true love & because they’re pretty.
Black Mask: I didn’t want to do all skulls since there’s enough dresses out there that do that, so I ended up with the mask part of his name.  Made sure to give the rich colors of a mobster along with the swag of the suit as well.  I think this one could be designed to be better and less busy (to fit in with the sleekness of Black Mask’s look more) but I wanted to go a bit over the top because why not, Lolita’s very theatrical.
Ventriloquist: Ok, this is a silly one.  This is nice and casual lolita that doesn’t look too close to Wesker, but that’s because Wesker’s design is supposed to be intentionally plain and meek.  Without the (badly drawn, sorry) Tommy gun purse & Scarface, I don’t think he’s recognizable.  That’s not a bad thing - him and Scarface complement each other perfectly and make a memorable design.  So I did my best to make a cute casual coord and add the few touches to make it look more like Wesker, & drew a teeny Scarface to show such.  I wish I could have done more to reference Peyton Riley/the second Ventriloquist but all I could capture was the color since her design is also very simple.
Scarface himself only got colors that were closer to the outfit.  I didn’t fancy him up too much since I think it would mess with the gangster look he has, which is already close to aristocrat fashion in the lolita world.  He was lucky not to get extra frills at the ends of his sleeves!
Zsazs: another mainly Arkham Design.  Most of mine are based partially on Arkham since that’s where I get most of my Batman fix, apologies!  Anyway, I just liked the idea of a skin-flesh dress with the locks and buckles of the Arkham prisoner jacket/uniform.  The bell sleeves already being on him made this a lot easier.  I left a spot open where I was going to draw the bat symbol, but I decided against it.
Killer Moth: Top are his Arkham Asylum Artwork colors since I think they’re very nice.  Went for a cute little 1960s inspired fur coat & bob, as his design is already psychedelic. Gave a fun flower crown to round out the colors & hold up some cute moth antenna.
Firefly: His The Batman design was the most unique to pull from and a good starting point to make an outfit.  I took some inspiration of the warning stripes, junk around the belt, & burnt skin tights from the Arkham version too.  *ellis voice* I ever tell you about the time Keith and I made fireworks? Otherwise, his design would have been much harder to work with considering it’s mostly a solid suit with not many features in his apperances.  It would have had to be more abstract if I went for one of those.
But yeah his The Batman design and designs spinning off from it kick ass, so I did a sporty-ish look.  I hope the bonnet doesn’t look too silly, I just wanted headware that differed the outfit from Killer Moth better.
Strange: Another design that had to go with the Arkham look.  Strange is a classic villain with his face being one of his big, defining features.  This is a great thing in character design, it just means it’s harder to make an outfit around it!
I love the classic mad scientist look so I didn’t stray too far from it, it looks fun medical Lolita already. All I really did was add the medical book brain pattern (thank you British Library) + little bats, because of course he’d have bats on his brain.  It’s also a nod to his habit of Batman Cosplay & impersonation.
A few people I thought of but didn’t make dresses for:
Joker - He’s fabulous, I just didn’t feel jokery & wanted to focus on others more.
Catwoman, Harley, & Ivy - All three ladies have so many designs it’s hard to choose.  They have so much more freedom with their designs than most of the male crooks.  I’d have to make like... 4+ outfits for each just like I did with Scarecrow if I was to ever be satisifed. ;w;
Mad Hatter, White Rabbit - All the Alice themed supervillains have been done as Lolita Coords by Lolita fashion already since, well, Alice was a big inspiration for the fashion in general. I’d be down for them but I just felt bad because I couldn’t think of how to separate them from others as well as I could, like how I made Black Mask’s design more elaborate as to make sure the themes and connections to the villain was clear rather than just a skull design.
Killer Croc & Man-bat: Also hard to differ between a general animal-themed coord and them.
Thanks, hope you guys are enjoying your new year so far. :D

hello (i am the cursive anon) but have since left the anon because WOW i truly didn't expect you to make a comic out of my silly rambling so i just have to THANK YOU for your drawing. also, mechanical pencils are better than traditional pencils. however, the one problem that i have with them is that the lead can break pretty easily which is highly annoyingly as someone who both writes fast and hard. random but have you tried calligraphy? it's super relaxing even if you don't have the best handwriting 10/10 recommend
oh and another wacky idea, i think that edelgard might have a special wax seal reserved just for byleth (color would be either blue or red with gold) and with an extremely fancy E
awww i’m so glad you enjoyed it!!! i got a little carried away lol but it was very fun to draw.
100% agreed on the lead issue too 😤😤😤😤 it’s very annoying. i like having nice thin lines for traditional drawing/sketching though, and battling a pencil sharpener all day to maintain that crispness just ain’t worth the struggle lol.
i haven’t tried calligraphy but i’d really like to!! i get so envious of people who can bust out swoopy, swirly, pretty letters so gracefully. whenever a calligraphy video comes across my dash i’m Fixated 🤤 it’s so cool. i’ll have to make an attempt at it eventually.
also agreed on edelgard’s fancy wax seals. she definitely started doing it at hubert’s insistence (he was really sick of trying to figure out which pieces of edelgard and byleth’s correspondence were personal or business-related). i love big fancy “e,” though i could also see her agonizing over getting exactly the right design or symbol to use on the seal as to represent her feelings for byleth. girl loves her symbolism.
byleth: it’s… a bird… dragon? wolf?
edelgard: [launches into a twenty-minute long diatribe about the eagle’s significance to the hresvelg family, why she chose a wolf for byleth, and how the symbol represents their unity]
byleth: it’s, um. it’s very cool, el.
meanwhile byleth’s solution was to write “(Personal)” on the back of the envelope.

I just found your art tutorial on how to draw wheelchairs and people in them and I wanted to thank you for representing more than just the high end chair users.
Every other tutorial I found was saying that you can't draw the kind of chair I have without being ableist and ignorant of chair users...and it made me feel miserably left out.
My chair is the clunky, not custom, hand me down Invacare tracer kind that I've slapped a cushion in for support. Everyone else I've found has said that no long term chair user has one and you shouldn't draw a chair user in it. I even started drawing my chair like other people's because I felt like I was doing something wrong by representing myself with the chair I actually use...
It felt like they were trying to erase me by telling people not to draw my chair type because if a chair user needed one, they'd buy the newer and better ones. The problem is that I do need my chair every day but I can't afford any of the better ones.
Thank you for not forgetting those of us who don't have the fancier chairs. I felt truly seen for the first time when I saw mine drawn in your lineup of models.
You're welcome. It is very important to remember (this is at artists and well-off disabled people, its not directed at you because you pointed it out) that not everyone has the same set of advantages. and I know I got tags on the post that were like 'i've never seen someone with the high-end wheelchairs, the only ones people i know use are like invacare. are they rich people chairs or something?' so they definitely were expecting to see more of the invacare-like stuff and the 'fancy' stuff seemed weird to them.
(which like. whether the other chairs are rich people chairs honestly depends on context and how much your insurance will pay. I know a friend who got insurance to pay for a pretty decent chair but it was HARD AS HELL for them).
some characters are well-off or might have decent insurance, and it would be unrealistic for those characters to use the invacare-like chairs, and i think what puts off some wheelchair users is when that's the only chair they see because it's the 'default' version that able bodied people imagine, it's the most common one you see in hospitals or stores. like one of the characters in my example was barbara gordon (oracle from DC) and she's pretty well off and steals money from criminals, so she would presumably get herself as nice of a chair as she can (I mean when you're spending someone else's money you can afford it :P) it feels weird to see her in the 'default' chair for me especially when the text indicates its supposed to look different (ex: she says in dialogue 'my wheelchair doesn't have handles' but then the artist draws handles b/c thats how wheelchairs look in their head and they didn't think on it).
but that's just what makes sense for her! obviously it doesn't work for every character (and thats why i included the list of questions for people to ask themselves there). NGL artists should pay just as close attention to the design of the character's wheelchair as they do to other functional things the character uses and backstory elements that would
and saying that you should never draw a character in the invacare-like chair is just inaccurate and as you pointed out kind of adding insult to injury to the people who do have to use a chair that doesn't work as well for them everyday. I am sorry to hear that you felt compelled to draw your wheelchair the way that people think a full time wheelchair user's chair 'should' look. I hope you keep drawing and can draw your chair the way it actually is! Thank you for this thoughtful message!

Hey I was wondering if I could get a Band of Brothers male ship? Thanks :)
I have short dark brown hair and brown eyes. I have pearl earrings currently. I am 5'6. I am also ftm and gay. He/him pronouns
I am currently learning German and Ukrainian. I play the cello (I would say that I'm pretty decent at it). I want to join the paratroopers soon and maybe get a doctorate degree in the medical field. I like writing books, reading, and drawing. I am very interested in history, mainly the 20th century. I also know how to cross-country ski and love the winter.
My MBTI type if I remember correctly is INTJ. I love procrastinating and do well under a lot of pressure. I'm also very stubborn and awkward with talking to people so I don't have many close friends. For some reason, I have a sort of knack for doing things well, even if it's the first time I've tried it and that might be because I listen really closely to stuff to make sure I'm doing everything correctly. I need a straightforward path and a list of things I should do to get something done.
I have depression, anxiety and maybe (I say maybe because it's undiagnosed) maladaptive daydreaming, which basically means I daydream too much that it's a problem. Any small words of affection or reassurance sends me through the roof and makes me happy for the rest of the day (idk why). I also get angry very quickly and forget things quickly.
I am converting to Judaism so that’s cool. My sense of clothing style is just me pretending I’m in the military, pleather jackets, heavy jackets that are either camo or dark green, aviator sunglasses, a lot of neutral colours, fancy dress shirts/blouses, combat boots (which I currently do not own so just tennis shoes or winter boots), I have a few BoB pins which I have created on my own :) I like wearing t-shirts in winter under my jacket just because. The t-shirts usually have designs like aeroplanes, space, and museum shirts. I also have a collection of shirts from places I’ve never been cause I think it’s hilarious. I do a lot of things just cuz I think they’re funny.
I keep a lot of stuff in my pockets “just in case”. I impulse buy, which is a big insecurity of mine. People intimidate me easily so I usually wait to get approached to start a conversation. I like watching adventure shows like extinct or alive or expedition unknown.
I would say that I have a very dark sense of humour and am almost always sarcastic when talking to my friends (also I love irony). I have an interesting music taste, most any song I listen to goes onto my liked songs on Spotify heh. I sometimes slip into a British accent or one that isn’t mine at all. I also tend to get myself injured at least once daily and now it’s a running joke with my friends.
I don’t really know much about romance, but I try. I don’t like that much physical affection but I do like praise, as I said before, and gifts. I love giving gifts to people. <3
Thank you so much for your request! btw you sound so cool like omg let’s be friends bae (Also sorry for the long wait!) 😫💗
I ship you with…
Bull Randleman!

song recommendation: Melting - Kali Uchis
- Okay bestie so hear me out, you and him would just click to me, i just feel like he’s so patient and loving with you it would be so freakin nice omg, and the way you are thoughtful and gentle to him is just so amazing, like this is my otp right here
- he would probably make the first move, you’d look so good that night you guys met he just couldn’t resist not talking to you, he was probably a little nervous at first, but the thought of making a move before him and getting to talk to you made him impulsive make his way towards you
- when getting to know you, he would think you’re so versatile and so smart, he couldn’t help but bring a smile to his face when he hears you talk about all of your ambitions and goals that you’ve set out for yourself.
- And don’t even get me started on how he would be sooo interested on the fact that you’re a writer and just an artist in general, like he just thinks it’s so cool that you can just write something up and it can be like super good, and when you’re drawing don’t be mad when he’s right behind you watching your every move 🤣 like he just wants to see how you can draw so well, like what the heck??
- He knows you like history (he’s an attentive boi) so he would always bringing up watching something that has to do with history maybe something in the smithsonian channel or just a random movie, (as long as you watch his western movies with him after LOL )
- I could def see you guys watching one of those documentaries or movies on the roaring 20s or something else you you like from the 20th century, just a reminder though, that the whole time you try to watch the movie he’s gonna be trying to initiate (if you’re okay with it ofc) a little make out sess in between the movie 🤣
- speaking of tv, let me tell you how you guys would throwdown on some adventure unknown episodes, like both of you would enjoy watching stuff that like so much, before y’all usually go to bed y’all would probably watch something like that every night LOL
- you guys have a very different sense of humor but both of yours honestly go so well together like when you make a dark joke he’ll just be like 😳 at first then start to laugh about it, the one thing that you guys do have, is some good ass sarcasm, like together you guys can be so funny with it actually, like y’all will be in y’all’s own little world while everybody else is like, “what are they laughing at?”
- most the time he tries to be the best support system for you, not matter what, if you need him he’s there rain or shine, even if he sometimes disagrees with what it is you’re doing (if it is he’ll most likely talk to you in private about it but he will always support and defend you in public no matter what) Also let me mention if someone ever hurts you? literally pray for them bc that man is going to END them, like no one hurts his bae EVER.
- When you get angry, it depends, he will usually give you your space to cool off, then you guys can talk about whatever is bothering you, but if you’re more sad angry, he will just sit there and hold you and tell you everything will be alright, he’s one of those people that are like, “what’s made you mad and what can I do to fix it?” If he mad you mad he will of course say sorry to you and at the end of the day you guys always resolve arguments and stuff like that with each other
- to him, your pockets are like the hat in “Cat In The Hat” 🤣 like there is no telling what the heck is in there or what he might find if he puts his hand in there, but it can also come in handy when he needs some change or something like that
- you’re his clumsy bae and whenever you guys are together, he always tries his best to get you to *not* fall or hurt yourself when he’s around. He honestly thinks it’s a little cute at first, just because you’re always going and going, not being careful at all 😭 “Slow down honey, you’re gonna get hurt!” (momma bull activated LMAO)
- he makes SURE to remind you how much he loves and cares about you, he knows that every day isn’t always guaranteed, so he always will show you and tell you how grateful he is to be yours and yours only🥹 (he’s so soft omg i love him)
- your style is so unique to him, like you clothing choice is SUPERIOR to him don’t even get me started, and it’s so funny when he is just going through your closet (don’t ask me why he is, he just is 🤫) and he sees all of these shirts with cities on them, and he’s just like, “you’ve been here before?” and you’re just like “no?” LOLOLOL
- dude he would find it sooo cool that you can speak multiple languages, like maybe even teach him some because i think he would be really interested in it, and when others ask about all of the languages you can speak he’ll just think to himself like, “yeah that’s right, I have a smart bf 😌”
- Okay okay, imagine, you and him have a shared playlist on spotify, and sometimes you guys will play that playlist and just dance around together lovingly, also it’s so funny bc the playlist consists mostly of songs that you put in it, while he has maybe 1/5 of his song recs on there LOL
- he also loves when you give him gifts, he’ll never admit it bc he doesn’t want to seem greedy, but just the thought of you taking time out of your day to buy him something he likes, just thinking of him like that makes his heart absolutely melt
- he knows you can also forget things quite easily so when you guys are about to go somewhere this man comes PREPARED, like one time you guys were going to go to the bowling alley, and when you got there you realized that you forgot socks, dw tho bc he already had an extra pair of socks bc he knew you’d forget them 😭
- canon: you teach bull how to ski (LOL) as we know, this man does not go skiing like ever, i mean he lives in the south so there’s barely ever any snow in the winters (coming from another southerner) but maybe for a vacay you guys go to a ski resort or something like that, and he’s mostly there bc of the jacuzzis bc he does NOT know how to ski at ALL, but you end up showing him how, it was funny at first though because just imagine him, this strong guy, being nervous to ski for the first time LOL
- During the wintertimes just know this man loves to cuddle up to you like a totally snuggle bug, like just know you won’t be cold at ALL because you know this man will keep you warm all through winter.
- but you guys would be SO good for each other like actually, he takes care of you so well and you do the same exact thing for him, ugh this relationship is too cute
Thank you for your request again hon!! I hope you enjoy! 💛💖

Hello dear Anon! Thank you so much for your patience 🥰 this semester has been busy and I really appreciate it!
I ship you with . . .
Tumblr media
Skip Muck!
Listen! It's the ✨vibes✨
He's a fun guy! You sound like a fun guy! I just think the whole relationship would be super fun 🤭
You meet in the paratrooper program, for sure
The second that he approaches you, you would just know that the connection between you is something special
Your darker sense of humor with his lighter one would just balance each other out so nicely. Like, you're both having fun and cracking jokes, but they're on completely different ends of the spectrum, which makes it interesting and keeps you guys on your toes
Skip is a very adventurous person, and because you're into so many different things, I feel like every day would be an adventure with you two. Even if you just want to stay at home and read some history books, he would enjoy just spending time with you
Speaking of ✨vibes✨, as someone with ADHD, I feel like Skip probably has it too? (Just me? Okay lol) So since it's hard for him to get past steps in certain tasks, it works really well because you remember details so well. He is so efficient with you around to help him plan things out
For as much as he likes to joke around, he can also be serious. He's a words of affirmation dude, for sure, so when he casually tells you that he loves you or cares about you, you can be sure that he's being genuine 💖
Skip would think that your fashion sense is so cool! Catch him out here stealing your jackets and cool t-shirts (And he'd be cool with it if you wanted to steal his clothes, too)
Since you keep so many things in your pockets, I feel like he would make it a running joke between you two. Waiting until you're out with friends and then asking you for something insanely specific. The rest of Easy is like "there's no way - Oh! Okay, never mind. Wait, how did you fit that in your pocket?"
The laughs you two get out of it would never get old
Thank you for the request, Anon! I hope you like this 💕🕊️

I have some more questions! What’s the most popular forms of merchandise you guys sell, what’s your favourite, what else have you seen around, and if you were to branch out into more stuff, what would you try? :-)
I know from my own observations that some common stuff is pins, stickers, prints, keychains- but I’ve seen some obscure things such as patterned fabrics, comics/zines, sculptures, figurines,  sticker hoarder books (which seem to be on the rise) plushies, etc.
clove wrote another nice long piece that summarised all my thoughts too so i'll put all that below
TLDR
most popular by quantity - badges most popular by profits - keychain or prints favourite to sell - zines best starter merch - anything you can make at home! things I'd like to do next - sticker books, pens, embroidery dream merch - plushies
every piece of merch has their ups and downs, and I find that some forms that I never have luck with selling fly off other people's tables and vice versa. it's all about finding your niche and what flows well with your style and business model.
for context for others, this is a summary my experience selling at large weekend long pop culture cons in Australia. this is going to be different for online sales, or for stalls at smaller events aimed at different audiences. adjust your stock accordingly. any prices I mention are in AUD
here's my thoughts
prints
always have prints. even if you haven't made much proper print worthy art, get some finished art printed up to put on the wall. I don't understand people that don't do this! prints have THE biggest cost to profit ratio (costs about $0.50-$3 to print and $5-30 to sell) and it makes your display eye catching from a distance, showing people what you're all about. I honestly haven't worked out the exact science to what makes a print a good seller, and sometimes prints I think will be a hit get zero sales. however, when they are hits I've sold upwards of 30 copies of it! find a local print shop for best service. i get 4-8 copies for most prints to start off
keychains
always a hit but the problem with keychains is the market is very competitive and saturated, so you really have to keep up with the trends. when I started selling at cons I handmade keychains with inkjet shrink film in the oven. these days everything is holo and glow in the dark and has fancy clasps. I think how you go about this depends on your art style and business model. i prefer the simple ones! it matches my very simple cartoony style. for your basic keychains, production price is about $3-5 and standard sell price is $15-20. I sell mine for $10 as most of the fandoms I draw for have young teen audiences and I want them to be able to afford it. I always accidentally understock but I'd recc 5-15 pieces per design with vograces low moq
enamel pins
high risk high reward! the sucky thing about enamel pins is the high moq if you're starting out. this is an investment you might want to wait to get into when you've found your niche. shipping is expensive too cause of the weight. i avoid fandoms and current trends if I can help it so I'm not left with a ton of stock when the hype fades. usual minimum order quantity is 50, and after you factor shipping from the manu in each pins cost averages to $2-5 depending on complexity. my sell price is $10 which is honestly too low but I haven't been bothered to check what other ppl sell theirs for lmao.
stickers
I'm mad about this one cause officeworks stopped stocking the only brand of sticker paper I trust. I know there's more brands out there but they're very expensive and some smudge so I've been ordering stickers since. if you can, print and cut your own stickers. either way production cost is usually 10-50c a sticker and I still sell them for $1 each but will likely increase that to $2 soon. this is solely cause stickers are on the table for the main purpose of people getting rid of their loose change, or for people who want to support us in exchange for having a nice chat with them. it is perfectly respectable to price your stickers from $3-5 for basic ones, and higher if they're large or there is something special about them! I sell about 50-200 stickers total per con, but I couldn't tell you what that boils down to per design cause it varies greatly
badges
BUY A BADGE PRESS. they cost like $90 from ebay last i checked and you will make that back instantly. you can print designs on your printer at home quickly and on demand. you can put anything on badges. they're an awesome space filler. fandom art, personal art, funny catch phrases, goofy edits, pronouns… i also recently learnt about cold laminate holo vinyl plastic to put on top which has changed the game. idk the exacts but the cost per piece for at home badge production is maybe? 10c? I sell them $2 for a 32mm small and $3 for a 54mm large. I sell 200-300 badges a con. buy a badge maker.
zines
zines are a talkpiece and a way to connect with other artists. they're your way of spreading your passion to the world. make zines. sell zines. trade zines. I print them at home on printer paper and sell them $2-5 each. there are dedicated zine collectors who make the rounds at cons, and zines (like the stickers!) are often purchased by ppl who like you and want to support you but aren't into your pricier or fandomy stuff. I never bring leftover zines home from a con cause I've always sold / handed out them all. biggest downside is they are hard to display once you have a lot !!

okay seller. people like them and they're cheap. I just don't like displaying them or making them and i just dont think many people read books these days but if I have spare room on the table or wall I'll put them up. I sell for $2-4 each. they usually sell (even when I don't have any displayed. somehow). ive had some people tell me they consider them mini-prints cause they cant afford actual prints. good cheap merch option when starting out and a table filler. not my jam.
notebooks
the thing about notebooks is… my demographic doesn't want to buy notebooks. I think they would be a hit if you drew nature or animals or ghibli stuff etc. I ran a kickstarter a couple years back but was unable to fulfil the orders (bad planning, my fault. a friend is dealing with it now) so I have somewhere close to 300 notebooks in my house. I've tried selling the excess at cons but i only make sales if I severely underprice them. might be a good slow seller if you only buy 10 at a time, not 300
notepads
sell worse than notebooks! no clue why! I love them and they're cheap! I think maybe people overlook them and don't realise what they are. sad.
pillows
great seller for me !!! however this is one of the ones where, by observstion, I make more sales from than others who sell the same product do. theyre the custom printed pillows from vograce, for context. production cost is high, about $10 a pillow I think. I originally sold them for $25 but raised it to $30 when I realised how much stuffing cost. surely you can buy cheaper stuffing online but I always end up running to spotlight or lincraft the week before the con and spending $70 on it. I can sell 10-30 pillows a con but I think I'm an outlier there. start with low quantities when you don't know what your niche is yet
lanyards
I love them! mine sold moderately okay but it's one of the things I took joy in making, yknow :) cost was about $2 per and I sold them for $12. sold about 10
tote bags
not a great seller at all, unfortunately!! perhaps it's cause the only ones I've made so far have had my ocs on them. they are another merch item I adore though so I don't mind having them as a slow seller. I also give them out to people who spend over a certain amount. costs are very variable
lanyard keychains
technically a keychain but different in my head. it has a mini lanyard and also acrylic keychains on it. I sell these at rat shows for $20 each and they sell fast. slower mover at cons tho
pencil cases
they sell okay. they cost about $2-4 to make each and I sell them for about $8-12. slow seller for me
temporary tattoos
I've only sold these at one con so far so I haven't gotten a good read on the vibes. they are so cool though :) please take into account skin colours because I didn't (fsr I thought they'd be opaque) and even on my pale skin you can see discolouration. next time I make designs they will be lineart only, cause I really don't want to have to explain to someone they shouldn't buy it cause their skin is too dark and it will come out shit. think I sold them for $4 each
commissions
hugely variable by con, and hugely variable by artist. I do "sketch page" commissions which is an a5 page of me just drawing mini doodles with a ballpoint pen and poscas whatever stuff comes into my head based on the prompt / character until the page is full. this sets me apart from other artists (though please don't worry about overstepping if you also want to try this) and harnesses the elements of my style that people like the most. it also means I can do little bits and pieces between serving people. other artists will do one large sketch, or a full inked drawing, or ipad comms, or just take commission requests for after the cons. I can't really speak to the success of those methods because I've never really asked. I charge $20 for a page of doodles and can get anywhere from 3 to 25 requests over a weekend. I originally charged $10 a page (i thought after are all, they're just silly doodles) but was so overbooked I spent the entire con with my head down and had a queue so long I was turning people away. don't undercut yourself here!! usual issues with undervaluing your comms aside, you want some time to enjoy the con too :) if you're overrun, raise the price point next time to cut down the demand.
lucky dips
people love lucky dips! it's psychology! these are especially successful for ppl with higher priced merch to make a good multi-buy bargain, or mainstream fandoms where every option is a good choice (pokemon, ghibli, animal crossing). I don't see a big point in us in particular making lucky dips, especially since the content of our table is Highly varied. I would recommend it if all of your stuff was in a similar category. the times we have made lucky dips before was to get rid of excess discontinued stock cheap, and once we had a "gender lucky dip" which included a set of random pronoun badges and pride stickers. it was silly and people had a laugh :)
and I'm so sorry that this is so long as is, but I'm trusting that you're still reading because this is valuable insight and well you asked. (honestly I'm considering I should write up an official guide thanks to you. I enjoy writing about my experiences, insights and and you're right that this info is hard to find!)
but since you asked and since I want to answer, here's my thoughts on stuff we don't sell
washi tape - don't like the idea for my own business model. I love the concept but for a small quantity the cost per production is higher than I would like it to be for what I'd want to sell it for. as I've said, my audience is mostly teens who usually have low funds. I would feel awful pricing such a small item at such a high price!! I personally would like to charge $5 for it, but they are usually sold for about $10-15 (rightfully so!)
standees - not for me, I don't believe my style would suit it. leave that to the anime artists.
patterned fabrics - this costs a lot more than you'd think, tbh. would be best to buy in bulk or if your niche was craft based. if I ever had a plan for how to execute this, I would. but as of now I don't.
comics - this is the dreaaammm. biggest problem is the time for creation. people do go around cons though just to collect original works. do this for yourself if anything, not to sell at a con
sticker hoarder books - at the most recent con I've sold at, many people were disappointed to find my notebooks weren't sticker books. big market for it right now.
sculptures/figurines/handmade plushies - this isnt something i would personally make (skill issue, literally), but its high risk high reward to me. you really need to value your own time and work, so these would r often priced high. means you only have to sell a couple to profit, but if they don't sell. ouch.
manufactured plushies - would LOVE to do this. would require lots of research but it's the dream to me. I'm not in the stage of life to work on this, too much on my plate elsewhere
ceramics- jay bought me a hand painted ceramic dish with tamagotchi characters on it :) I think it cost a lot of money. it was so cool.
embroidered stuff - another thing I would love to get into when I have less going on. oh to have an embroidery machine and time to make things with it
rugs - people love rugs right now theyre all the rage. I love them at least. I would love to make some :)
mouse pads - would try these one day. sounds fun
wooden pins / charms - inevitably will do one day. they personally have less appeal to me than enamel pins and acrylic charms tho. less versatile
fake video game boxes - ok this is just a personal idea / project but I had started editing the box art for a fake total drama ds game then skinned all my wife's ds game boxes to make and sell them. I gotta look more into the logistics and also this isn't a thing yet lol
earrings - pretty popular right now! I wouldn't make them bc my ears are hyper sensitive and it'd make me too sad
jewellery in general - more risky than earrings. I've seen this go badly for ppl before lol
pens / pencils - I would love to make and sell these!!
socks - I like to consider what stuff I personally like buying, and I love fun sock designs !!
fridge magnets - you can get printer magnet paper to print from home. good beginner merch
greeting cards - I think this is a good idea. depends on audience. probs not the best for me personally
I could probably go on forever about other various small ideas and niche things so I'll stop here. hope you enjoyed my ramblings :)

The only 2 things you need to make art
I loved art and design at school but it took me a while to find my way back to making drawings and paintings.
I studied a very academic subject at university and took a brief detour into teaching, but being diagnosed with a chronic illness led me to rediscover how much I enjoyed being creative.
During the early days of being ill, whenever I had a pocket of energy I would find some comfort in doing some simple sewing or crafting handmade greeting cards.
Every so often I would pick up a pencil and have a go at drawing something but it had been so long since I’d done that, that my drawings were inevitably imperfect. So I would lose patience (and energy) and give up.
Thanks to Danny Gregory’s Book The Creative License I started to draw with a pen for the first time and sank into the process of drawing which felt meditative.
During a conversation with some fellow artists where we were discussing our favourite and newly discovered art materials, I sparked a momentary silence by declaring, “In the end, all you need is a pen and some paper” which nicely sums up what I want to share today.
Sometimes it’s easier to get on with making art if you keep your tools really simple. And the simplest way to make art is with just 2 tools:
1. A pen
Nothing fancy, just choose a pen. That ballpoint pen sitting on the coffee table will work just fine. Don’t put extra pressure on yourself to use or find the ‘perfect’ pen. Doing that’s a really good way to procrastinate and avoid making a start on a drawing.
Just find the nearest pen and use that. Once you’re in the swing of making drawings regularly, consider rewarding yourself with something a bit more fancy, but don’t let the sparkle of shiny new art materials become a barrier to making art.
And yes, I know, it can feel really scary to dive straight into a drawing with a pen. There’s nowhere to hide and no possibility of erasing your lines. But if you embrace the slight wonkiness and imperfections you might start to realise they’re nothing to be afraid of. Accept that a line might not be at the perfect angle and redraw it or just go with it, it doesn’t really matter.
But observing, really looking at what you’re drawing and transferring what you see onto paper with your own marks might start to become something you can truly lose yourself in. Maybe you’ll begin to enjoy the process so much that the outcome of your drawing is secondary to the experience.
And yes, when you first start out you might still feel disappointed or frustrated with the results. But if you haven’t drawn in years, or since you were a child maybe, then your ‘drawing muscle’ is going to take a bit of time to get into shape.
In the meantime, though, be brave, dive in with a (any) pen, observe your surroundings and make some marks.
2. Some paper
Again, don’t overthink this. Have you got a printer? Take a piece of paper from there. Sticky note? That’ll do.
The most memorable drawing I ever did wasn’t fancy, wasn’t my best drawing, but it’s stayed with me. It was drawn on a piece of printer paper with a pen that was just lying around the house.
Maybe at some point, you’ll want to explore all the different kinds of papers and find a sketchbook that feels good to use. But make things as easy as possible to get moving. It’s the equivalent of going for regular walks or runs before you sign up for an expensive gym membership.
You might even have a notebook sitting around somewhere so once you’ve used a few pieces of printer paper or sticky notes, why not see if you can fill all the pages in that notebook?
Just don’t overcomplicate things. Don’t make excuses like “I’ll just go to the art supply shop at the weekend and then I’ll start drawing.”
Embrace the wonky, shaky, wobbly lines. When you look back at those drawings you’ll remember what it felt like to make those marks. Each one tells a story.
In the end, all you need is a pen and some paper. And the best pen and the best paper are those that you have right now. Making art isn’t about having the perfect tools, it starts with making beautiful, imperfect marks with simple materials. Give it a go. What’s the worst that can happen?
