Hello there, I recently took an interest into Niji X Cosette duo to fan art. But I still have mix feeling about it because of the canon but they are kinda cute together. So how do you deal with your feelings towards this ship?

Also, before you saw their fan art. What’s your opinion of these two when you first saw their interaction in manga/anime?

That's a good question 👀 and apparently, it's a FAQ for me, given the fact I've been rambling about them for 6 years and counting 👀💀

TBH with you anon, it all started back in 2017-2018 when I rewatched and reread OP again after hearing Sanji's getting married to Pudding in WCI 👀 I stopped because I was in highschool and getting ready to review for college entrance exams that time.💀So I need to take a break from long-running animes and focus for my exams.

I tried to keep up with both the manga and the anime, and apparently, my TL on twitter back then passed a NijiCose fanart and got spoiled before reaching the actual episode 800-802💀😭 that fanart was from @ovaCkuyuri... Here's a pixiv log of the said NijiCose fanarts:

At first I already knew they're problematic based on how they're interpreted on the fanarts (like Niji being a Tsundere to Cosette, and her acting nervous and flustered around him). But as I continued to watch and reread the manga... I noticed something interesting as well on Niji's character on manga that was documented on his profile page in OP wiki:

So far, he has the most "redeeming qualities from his modified brothers 👀 I know it says that his values totally contrast against Sanji, but I still have hopes for him.

In the series tho, I wish for a closure and reconciliation for both Niji and Cosette once the Vinsmoke siblings' modifications have been reversed. I want Niji to genuinely apologize to her and pay her back for everything.

Also, to answer your question how do I deal with this ship, I simply view them as problematic and angsty, yet a redeemable ship.

For sure, Cosette is traumatized deeply from Niji, and for sure she's totally aware of the modification story of the Vinsmoke siblings when she was hired in Germa. She knows what she's getting into when she was hired as their Royal Head Chef. Hopefully we got some backstory of how she got there in the first place 👀

I always daydream of them getting slowburned from Niji's existential crisis as humanity regains from his senses as he feels horribly guilty about his wrong doings as a warmonger, not just to Cosette; and Cosette knowing that he's not born to be evil in the first place, tolerating and slowly tries to understand him.

i need help finding a book

i rewatched all of ever after high this weekend and i remembered an oc i made based on a character from the fairy tale this book took from and now i want to reread it, might turn her into a neverafter oc if someone can manage to find this book for me

main things:

i think it’s a retelling of diamonds and toads by charles perrault/mother holle by the brothers grimm or is at least inspired by it

tbh, i’m not sure if it was a book or just a chapter or a short story or something like that

but i can only remember one scene from it where the character that speaks out toads and frogs sits down to figure out which words correspond to creating which creatures and she notes that the poison frogs makes her lips numb

i most likely read it back in elementary school so like 2008-2015

i did some searching on my own and i can tell you it’s not “How I Came To Marry A Herpetologist” by Nina Hoffman unless there’s a different version of that than the one i read while searching. i also don’t think that it’s “Toad-Rich” by Michael Cadnum

things that are a little unhelpful but are relevant:

i vaguely remember the character being able to also speak jewels (like if the sisters from the original story were the same person) and some words were jewels and some were toads but that might be me misremembering

i think it sort of had the same vibes as Ella Enchanted/Fairest and the Twice Upon a Time series by Wendy Mass, but it could also just be that i read all these things at the same time

Primarily the simon snow series and all for the game. I recently got into young royals so a few there as well, plus one each for a couple other shows I like.

Usually yes! Sometimes I go through spells of not replying…but I’m grateful for every single kudos and comment, it’s amazing and wonderful <3

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This is tough bc i love me a happy ending and i don’t really do angst anyway lmao. My joke answer is my crack andreil fic Monday, but maybe the real answer is my snowbaz fic+song Breakable bc I left off before things get fully resolved (but it is clearly hopeful imo).

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

The happiEST?? Hmmm. I think my overall Happiest fic might be like, Mon Chou? And Better than Sex. both of those are just like, gooey with happiness. And both have happy endings so I’ll say one of them. Actually from a different approach I’ll say my time loop fic has the happiest ending bc it’s probably the angstiest thing I’ve written haha so the ending is such a relief. 

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have not!! Super grateful for everyone who leaves lovely warm positive comments on my work <3333 

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not on my own LOL. i do have some M/E fics in my works though thanks to some collabs (see Q13 lol) <3

I have not! I think about it sometimes….it’s just usually hard for me to imagine a world where all my blorbos live, even though I almost only write AUs…a mystery

Yes, which is wild!!! I think several of my Vandrew fics and BtS have been translated into russian. Thank you translators, you’re incredible.

Yes!! This was one of my most fun and treasured early fandom experiences with @facewithoutheart and @martsonmars <3 published results include The Chain (i was really just losing my mind in the doc while christina wrote tbh) and The Muse’s Waking which is probably the weirdest thing I’ve ever (partially) written hahah

Making me chooooooose ugh. Idk man i reread a snowbaz fic today and almost cried and they were my first fandom love so today i’m going to say them <3 

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I recently picked up a fic i abandoned 2 years ago so now i’m like well never say never! But one that’s in my “this is in the past now” pile that i was just thinking about is my andreil Alex Rider (TV) AU. i actually had an idea for how to get around the bit i was stuck on while rewatching Alex Rider the other day sooo…. But likely still abandoned

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think, somewhat incongruously, 1) writing concisely and 2) setting a mood. I think both these things are true in say Weightless (andreil, 1k, T).

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

PLOT. plot is so hard. That’s too broad of an answer so i’ll say, keeping multiple storylines/arcs progressing at once. I don’t do it much. It’s a fun challenge though. I usually write little one-shot, single-conflict fics bc that comes easier for me. 

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Love it. Not fluent in any other language enough to really do it justice but i’d like to.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I think i wrote some hp and some jane austen fic before i ever got into Fandom Proper lol. First published fandom was for the Simon Snow Series <3

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

I think the one i’ve gone back to the most is Weightless. I set it in one of my favorite IRL places and it has tender blood drinking so. How could I beat that, really?

Gonna gush a little apropos of nothing tbh - I was a big ygo fan in in my teens despite never having properly watched DM ((for shame etcetera the abridged series took hold of my mid-pubescent mind and shook it like a rag-doll)), and at the time I was Big Into Thiefshipping. But having now watched the damn thing (dubbed for laughs but I'm seriously considering doing a full sub rewatch)

And for whatever reason (/obvious reasons) Kaiba and Jou just took me by the throat, and when I went on my little fic hunt on AO3 for kindling to fan the flames I found your fics. Your beautiful, wonderful fics.

I just love all your different AUs and your different takes on Kaiba and Jounouchi grafted into each universe. I think you have such a good handle on their characters and what makes them tick - in universes where they can be in love and in universes where they can be in self destructive obsession with one another and everything in between.

So I just wanted to say thanks for sharing them with the world <3

Embarrassing confession time: I took a while answering this one because I would periodically come back to my inbox and reread this message (you may imagine me giggling and twirling my hair as I do so). I hope you don't mind me replying in public so that I can save it for posterity. <3

Now onto the content of your message.

Your experience is not that uncommon. There was definitely a bit of a renaissance in the fandom in the early days of YGOTAS. It brought a lot of new people to the fandom. In a lot of ways, it was one of the biggest factors in sailing thiefshipping prevalently. As for me, I started out as a Kaiba/Shizuka shipper waaaaay back in the day (we're talking like 2002).

Kaiba and Jounouchi are going to be my favorites forever, though! I've jumped around to some other fandoms during the intervening years, but I always come back to these two. A big part of it is that I had very ambitious story ideas as a teenager, then young adult, that I failed to both execute and see through to the finish. It took literal decades but I've finally cultivated the skillset I wanted/needed to make those stories happen.

So I legit want to cry every time someone tells me that the fics also had an effect on them. Whether it entertained them or gave them a bit of joy. Yeah, I write for myself. But the rest, the editing and the agonizing and the formatting and the posting, that's me sharing something (perhaps egotistically so, a part of myself) with the world. So it's always gratifying to hear that it's been received somehow by someone. And that it had a positive impact.

braindumping about the hayase clan (even though I should really reread/rewatch the series before trying to analyze any of these guys bc it's been a while)

hayase: I'm kinda ambivalent towards her, she was kinda just the nasty iphone bitch when she showed up at first, but also just serving her role for yanome to control the villages or whatever. I never would've thought to interpret her reaction to Fushi as love or a new obsession, so that came out as a total plot twist to me later on, feels like a whole different character tbh, at first it just feels like she's doing her job.

so she shows up again, arguably cooler looking. and you know what, I love a good yandere, she's kinda badass and terrifically creepy, though her motives still just don't make much sense given her introduction in the series. does she love Fushi? does she just want to control and own him? does she want his children (<- the real answer right here)

most people hate her solely for the rape scene, and they are totally valid for that, unfortunately I am a freak and that kinda just makes me like her more— UH so she's kinda based for offering to let Fushi kill her so much, I respect her willingness to die in order to be 'immortal' even if only in her aspect rather than fye.

the fact that she fucked another man at the end, totally cheating on her waifu Fushi, just to have kids and make the rest of this series hayase hell is not something I can respect smh

she's a greasy haired menace to this franchise and I respect her commitment

hisame: idk lol she showed up for two episodes idc about her. goodbye stinky indoctrinated cult child 😍

kahaku: I was actually thinking of rereading while making a kahaku analysis essay but never got around to it... so we're going off memory here, though he is a character that needs precise introspection. I don't really like him at all tbh, I try to understand him, but I don't really like him for the most part. his backstory is simple and good, a boy in a line of what's supposed to be women, compelling. he has his funny moments, he's truly devoted to helping Fushi and not being weird about him (until he gets weird about him)

I think what makes me dislike him is his insistence that Fushi is a woman so that he can be straight and love Fushi only under those conditions, it's a very annoying way for an Unconditional Love character to act. it's low-key kinda gross like "she[Fushi] just hasn't opened up to her own femininity yet" like bro???? Fushi can be whatever they want, it almost sounds transphobic if it weren't for context 😭 the insistence on she/her regardless of whatever form he's in, and his own admission that he 'feels more like a boy I guess' is just kinda hhhnnnmmnmgghhg yeah

and remember how he promised not to be weird... yeah well that proposal scene went downhill so fast ;_; it almost feels out of character, and I guess we're supposed to blame it on the Hayase Insanity Gene kicking in? but it just ends up feeling like he was a liar this whole time and wasn't as respectful as he seemed. he acts well afterwards, but still,, yikes dude.

I appreciate his care for Fushi's mental well-being when nobody else does. I appreciate how hard he fought in the war, and it was really unfair of Kai to keep him locked up. that ending scene is really interesting, because he is Very Okay with killing his comrades and then just insulting them (look at messar's haunted face how could you say that to him) and I guess we'll never know if it was him or Lefty that attacked the immortals in the kitchen. he sounds like he's lying and making excuses to justify it, ough Fushi it was my left hand it wasn't me I would never (he would)

I don't blame him for ripping Fushi to shreds there (because it was definitely Lefty) though he was a little creepy about it two seconds before, like damn boy you look like you're about to commit a hayase rape scene when Fushi is vulnerable-

his suicide is pretty noble and I'd love it if it was an act of ending his bloodline... if it weren't for the fact that his bloodline comes back 💀

mizuha: ah mizuha, I don't know what to think about her at all. I suppose she needs a heavy analysis too. her introduction chapter was incredibly strong, I too, struggle with a heavy need for absolute perfection and a wish for death, so I instantly figured I'd like her. but she kinda just spirals downhill after that....

I'd like to take a moment to applaud the Hayase clan, one centered around having straight sex with a guy to get preggers, has so many gay descendants. mizuha x hanna literally being canon is ✨✨

mizuha is kind of a slow burn into madness, which makes her better than hayase becoming a yandere out of nowhere. like she already starts off with Issues, and doesn't seem like the happiest or most stable person that you could trust. but she's also a more normal modern girl with her own relationships outside of Fushi, she's more compelling that way.

her murdering her mother and not remembering it, yet being so weirdly casual about it and showing hints of the Hayase Insanity Gene when Fushi shows up, it's interesting stuff

when they're hiding out, the way she just demands all these modern amenities from him just makes it seem like she's lived a very privileged life, and she probably has.

I like that she wasn't instantly in love with him upon meeting either, she has her own love interest, but Lefty influences and controls her and has its own directive.

side note but I really really love the nokkers' shift into becoming parasites that control the bodies of depressed people so that they only feel their happiest moments... or in Mimori's case just suicide them for them 😍 can I get a nokker please-?

okay I kinda forgot everything that happened in between so I need to reread. but she slowly gets more influenced by her nokker and the rest of the nokker cult basically. she's a damaged teenage girl, being influenced and controlled by something with a millennia long goal that's beyond her.

the section where she's kept underground is pretty interesting. is it the nokker? or does she not care about herself anymore, she seems to have given in to their goals. I need to reread this in particular so I'll stop talking-

I think something a lot of people miss when analyzing or talking about her is her speech bubbles. I'm sure the anime will not do anything with that, and it'll become entirely ignored by the fandom. but if you're reading the manga, in Japanese or in English, look carefully whenever she's speaking. her font changes when it's her or the nokker speaking.. this is something that's incredibly important to check when you're analyzing her behavior vs what she doesn't remember/what the nokker says and does

izumi: can't talk about Mizuha without mentioning her mother, she is honestly one of my favorite descendants, simply because she's trying to break the line and get out of the cult. she's level headed, she's a good woman. even her bad mother behavior of the way she treats mizuha, is often just her forgetting due to the nokker's control over her, her obsessive picture taking especially

doro: I've seen her for one chapter and I would do anything for her, best hayase descendant by far she is a little lab coat science girl and she is so sweet and I love her I love her so bad there better be so much doro content in my future, my beautiful mud girl 🥺🥺🥺

Lefty: does left hand count as a hayase member? probably yeah. there isn't a lot of personality to it, but it's interesting that it's just some random nokker that borrowed into some insane person's arm and decided their goals aligned. so it fights against other nokkers, but can also be willing to betray its host if needed. it learned to write and speak and mimic because it was asked to do so. it wants Fushi carnally, it wants Fushi to dominate it hdhgggsfjjdd why did it say that 😭 (yes it was the font thing with mizuha again, the nokker wanted Fushi to dominate her so bad)

I'm sure someone else could do a much better analysis of Lefty than I could, I never paid much attention to it...

anyways I should finish my rewatch of s1 that I've neglected for a while now (watching it in German 😍 and then watching s2 subbed because I hate Bon's German voice)

And I saw the new movie last Wednesday and then I rewatched the original movies as well so now I feel like I have a better grasp of the story bc tbh i didn't remember much about the actual story lmao

asdfghjklkjhgfdsdfghjk thank you so much! I am not very normal about this ask. I hadn't watched the new Hunger Games (and I'm not sure if I will eventually tbh. I will probably read the book first but I heard bad things about the book) - but honestly rewatching the OG trilogy is what made me want to write this au and I then proceeded to reread the books as well. I'm so glad you get much more of the story now haha. I was concerned about that since the Hunger Games setting is fairly memorable but the particulars which I often don't bother explaining are... not. I hope it isn't too confusing though!

And thank you so much for your compliments about the world building! I got a lot of compliments from my friends about that and honestly, it has evolved many times before I came to this conclusion but I'm really proud of what I got. The Capitol had already created "mutts" to win the war against the rebellion in the OG story - it made sense to me to use that dehumanization with mutants as well.

(Although tiny spoiler ahead - the explanation is not exactly... the truth. I'm planning to reveal that in the second and third part of the X-Games series, if I ever finish the first installment lol.)

My ramblings on finishing Magi and Magi: The Adventures of Sinbad and **SPOILERS for the whole series**

So to be fair, I finished reading Magi like a month ago. I just finished The Adventures of Sinbad like 5 minutes ago. For a short summary: I’m not a big manga reader but this makes me want to read every manga that has been adapted into anime. I’m planning on purchasing the whole series so I can reread it whenever I want to. For an out of 10 rating? All together it’s a 9/10 for me. It’s in my top 10 for anime/manga I’ve finished but idk where.

About the anime after reading the manga. I get why the anime started out like how it did but MAN when you read the manga the setup there is better. If my memory is correct, the manga starts with Aladdin and the anime starts with Alibaba. I’m guessing why they decided to adapt that was either because the mangaka wanted that or to make Alibaba fit as the protagonist more. It’s understandable but we’re with Aladdin more? Idk my mind was blown that they switched that much early on. That and some people will start a manga from where the anime left off, not from the beginning. And tbh? Now that I’ve rewatched Magi, anime kinda isn’t all that. The last time I watched was when I was 14-15 but it still left an impression on me. Not as good as I remember but the manga just fuckin destroyed the anime so whatever lol.

About manga past the anime. Tbh I’m still surprised at how good the manga got after where the anime left off. I still remember the shit leading up to chapter 260(I read like 130 chapters a day I was hooked). Like I finished 260 and just put my phone down and sat there until I went to sleep. I didn’t think I cared for Judal/Judar that much I was fuckin heartbroken. And Aladdin saying he didn’t have a choice and the look on his face ughhhhh shit fuckin SUCKED. Yeah I was going through it especially because before that you see Hakuryuu and Judal/Judar got along(was it that idk I was being feed a dynamic I didn’t know I needed let it be) and they’re not doing the good thing but whatever I’ve always liked Hakuryuu what do u want me to do?? The lead up was perfect and I want to reread Magi again just to get that led up to that fight again.

Now, the whole last arc? Kinda think I’m stupid lol. Sinbad just not stopping and I’m reading what he’s saying and I can’t completely disagree with what he was saying was frustrating for me. That and David being there(and finding out how he got there thx to the Sinbad spin-off) was a lot to take in which means I’m literally talking to myself abt this shit like a madman when I changed pages. I didn’t think it would go as far as it did with its subject matter so imagine my reaction when they start just fucking going at it the end between Sinbad and David. I had to put my phone down a lot during the end because I couldn’t understand what I was reading for a sec. Im not gonna reread the series for a minute because the stuff they were talking about is a bit too real for in my life and I don’t want to argue with my mom about fated paths and shit.

Overall I’m very satisfied. I got that hollow feeling in my chest after finishing both series and I’ll always be sentimental towards the series as a whole. I did some very cringe shit when I first watched Magi when I was young(listen I thought Morgiana was the coolest so let your imagination run wild) but I cherish those moments now. Not sure about recommendations but I very much enjoyed my time with this and I’ll remember it fondly years from now. But now my eyes are starting to unfocus so I have to stop typing lmao l8r.

All my Transformers works hold a special place in my heart, and while that fixation has oscillated out of alignment (and has been for a while), I still think about my boys occasionally. I need to finish my rewatch of TFP tbh—I stopped after the Orion arc in season two.

Promises Kept is so very special to me, and I promise that I'm still whittling away at it—atm I'm struggling with the next chapter, so I've been picking at later parts to at least keep the creative juices flowing. Khonshu is such an interesting muse and while he's being a little capricious rn I still enjoy playing with his character.
