ok hi according to an npc in hammerlocke applins can be given as part of a romantic confession which i think is adorable but since they’re only native to galar that tradition definitely doesn’t exist in unova & i was wondering if you could write the subway bosses being given an applin by the person they like, not knowing what it means until someone tells them and then they have to make a mad scramble to tell you they love you too
Absolutely!!
Asks are open!
-
-
🔳Emmet🔳
- you met him when you first moved to Unova from Galar, you had gotten a little turned around and asked him for help. Which the subway boss was more than happy to do!
- Doing his toy solider walk as he lead you through the walk ways. And several thank you’s you left.
- Though you came back once you got use to everything and battled him on the battle carts.
- And he couldn’t help but want to talk! Not only are you a suuuuper strong trainer, you have Pokémon he has never seen before! He had to know more!
- And you two talked until the subway came to a stop. By that time you had exchanged numbers and he begged you to battle him again sometime.
- You two became fast friends. Meeting him outside of work and him showing you around town.
- You even let him in your house to meet all your Pokémon personally! He coos at every last one of them.
- Almost a year into this friendship did he realize he was in love with you. He is a straightforward man but he wanted to make it special!
- The subway boss didn’t know you were planning something of your own when you went back to Galar to visit family for a week.
- Emmet was house sitting for you in your time away. Just as excited as yamper when you walked through the door.
- Happily listening to you talk about your trip.
- “Oh! I also got you something!”
- The expressive twin perks up a bit more before you hand him a small applin.
- With stars in his eyes he looks between your and the small apple Pokémon.
- “It’s an Applin, the mean a lot in Galar-“
- Emmet didn’t give you time to finish before he squealing and cooing over the small pokemon.
- “I love them! Oh I’m spoiling them, oooooohhhh I a cute bow and ribbon is in order!” Silver eyes glance at the over clock before he winces “ah Ingo is going to be mad I’m late, I’m sorry I couldn’t stay longer, but you rest up and we can spend time together later.”
- With a hug he is gone. And you sigh, there goes that idea, and just when you had the confidence to confess.
- Emmet carries the Applin, whom he affectionately name Smokey after a kitchen incident, everywhere he goes like he does his joltik’s.
- Emmet is very happy to see his spider children like and get along with the apple Pokémon.
- It had been a week since you’ve given the Applin to him.
- He didn’t know a damn thing until he was battling a tourist from Galar who happened to see the little guy poking his head out from Emmet’s pocket.
- “Aw so cute.”
- Emmet’s grin widens “right!? My dearest friend gave them to me.”
- The trainer looked confused for a minute “you mean partner….right?”
- Now it’s Emmet’s turn to be confused as the Galarian deadpans “you’re telling me you didn’t accept the confession but took the Applin? That’s just cold.”
- “I’m sorry I’m not sure I know what you’re talking about.”
- The trainer sighs “in Galar giving someone an Applin symbolizes affection story goes of you give it to someone you’ll be together forever, nice, ain’t it?”
- The trainer laughs at Emmet’s jaw dropped face. The second the subway doors open Emmet is running out “Gotta go! THANK YOU!”
- Everyone moving out of the way of the speeding twin, Smokey tucked away safely as Emmet doesn’t slow down, if anything he is speeding up once he is nearing your house.
- He flings your door open, making you jump from your couch.
- “YOU!”
- “M-me?”
- You back up as he speed walks towards you. What did you do? Is he mad? He looks mad.
- You don’t make it far enough away before Emmet grabs your arm, pulling you into his chest and kissing you.
- You let out a surprise squeak. Your face feels like it’s on fire.
- Though he can’t kiss you for long, all that running tired him out. He pulls away panting.
- “I love you and you don’t tell me even after giving me the Applin? I had to find out through a trainer?”
- He breathlessly snorts at your embarrassed expression.
- “I-I was going to tell you the day I gave Smokey to you! Honest! But then you left and I lost my nerve I just, I’m sorry Em.”
- “It’s fine, but I demand cuddles and a date.”
- Laughing you agree. And that’s how you ended up pinned on the couch beneath the smiling twin as he cuddles into you.
- “Did you tell Ingo you’d be here?”
- “……..can I borrow your phone?”
- “Siiiigh yeah sure you nerd.”
🔲Ingo🔲
- you lived in Unova for a few months with your Galar team before trying out the battle subway.
- Ingo wanted to talk after your win because he fell in love with your Coalossal. Who betrayed you and liked the stoic man too!
- You got a few good laughs out of Ingo because of this. He enjoyed seeing your bond with your Pokémon, even if you are playfully arguing with it for being a traitor.
- You’d stop by to battle a few more times before you two officially became friends.
- You happily told him all about your home in Galar and all the sights, even showing him pictures you’ve taken back home.
- You two would swap stories and interesting bits of information about your respective regions.
- And you enjoyed his train facts!
- Though he wants to visit Galar now because he wants to see Rolycolies and Carkols.
- Almost two years and he can say confidently that he has fallen in love with you, but he can’t say it to you.
- He gets choked up and quickly changes the subject.
- He doesn’t want to look like a fool in front of you.
- “Hey Ingo! I um, I want you to have something.”
- He was just about to leave since his lunch break was almost over.
- “What is it?”
- And you toss up a pokeball and in your hands rests the cutest little Pokémon he has ever see.
- “It’s an Applin.” You hand the small Pokémon to him. He takes it with gentle care, he can’t look away from it, it’s so small and cute.
- “I love them, so adorable, I will cherish and protect them with my life, thank you.”
- The dragon grass type jumps up and down a little in his hands.
- “W-well uh I just-“
- You two look over to Ingo’s walkie talkie that statically comes to life and Emmet’s voice can be heard.
- “Ingo some have a bitch who wants to talk to you.”
- Emmet does not sound happy, and neither does Ingo at his brother’s words.
- “I will see you later, I apologize for the abrupt departure.”
- “No worries! Be safe.”
- Damn, you missed your shot.
- For almost a month Ingo and his Applin (that he names sunny) were inseparable. Making a home in the stoic twins pocket.
- Ingo is more happy that his large Pokémon like and are careful with the small baby.
- It wasn’t until he was helping a child find her mother in the station did he ever get a hint.
- Before the child left, sunny poked his head out, causing the little Galarian girl to giggle.
- “Mommy look! An Applin!”
- “Now dear I’m sure the nice man wants to get back to his partner, say thank you.”
- “Thank you Mr subway boss sir!”
- And like that they left a stunned Ingo in his place.
- Partner? Where did they get partner from his Applin?
- When his shift was over he made sure to get off on time.
- At home by 6pm he looks it up. He couldn’t let it go.
- And when he sees the hundreds of search results about how Applin’s are a love confession he was melting in his couch.
- Face in a throw pillow he screams.
- His affections were returned and you didn’t tell him!
- Granted he has no room to talk but still!
- Should he text you? Call you? Should he go over to your house?
- Ingo grabs his phone and texts you ‘are you home?’
- ‘Yeah, what’s up?’
- ‘May I come over?’
- ‘Of course, you have a key, you’re welcomed anytime.’
- Shoes on and Sunny on his pocket he is out the door. Stopping by a flower shop and grabbing a bouquet of your favorite flowers.
- Knocking on your door he waits.
- And once you open it your flushed.
- “Oh my! What’s with the flowers?”
- “They are for you.”
- “They are beautiful, thank you, come on in, I was just fixing up some dinner and-“
- “Why didn’t you tell me?”
- He mentally kicks himself for interrupting you.
- “Tell you what?” Closing the door you hunt for a vase for the flowers.
- “Why didn’t you tell me about what Applins mean.”
- You froze. Shitshitshit did he really have to find out?
- “Is that what you were going to tell me because I was called away?”
- “I-I mean…yeah, I was hoping to anyways.”
- He hugs you so tightly. Your face in his chest.
- “I love you as well, I was too nervous about making myself look like a fool in front of you, please, accept my affection.”
- You grip the back of his shirt laughing.
- “Of course Ingo, how could I not?”
- He stays for dinner. You even make a little side dish for Sunny. And Ingo can’t he’ll but feel like this is where he belongs.

A Long Awaited Meeting
Reader with an Electrike x Sonia
Reader and Sonia meet up after 3 years of online dating
You had an online girlfriend. To many you would be sent as a stupid person for doing online dating but you couldn’t care less. All you know is that you are in love with the person on screen and that she is a wonderful, kind and lovely woman. Her name was Sonia. You both met on a certain Pokémon Research Site, a place where you thought that you would only find information on Pokémon not Love. When you two met each other you guys just started to be online buddies, but then more stronger feelings came to be and long story short you both are dating fully involving each other into our lifestyles. Calling each other any minute you're free, sending good luck and “how much I love you” messages. Yeah, you guys were totally head over heels for each other. And now you are finally going to meet your girlfriend. You guys decided to meet up on your vacation to Galar.
There you were, wearing some casual clothes which suited you. Waiting with your partner, Electrike. To be honest you were kinda worried about what Electrike thinks of Sonia since this is the first time they are meeting since your Electrike is not friendly with strangers. Then a woman with familiar orange hair and a Yamper, walked in the cafe and immediately your eyes met and lit up. “Sonia!” “Reader!” . You both ran and hugged each other tightly. “Omg I can’t really believe I am seeing you Reader!” “Yeah it seems like a sort of dream” You replied with a smile on your face. “Yamp!” “Oh yeah I should introduce you two. Well, Reader this is Yamper my partner Pokémon and Yamper this is Reader my lover.” “Nice to meet you, Yamper. Anyways this my partner Pokémon Electrike, Say hi Electrike” You said in a sweet tone. “Electrike! Electrike!” Electrike was jumping up to down seeing Sonia and Yamper. To be honest, you were really confused! Your not-so friendly Electrike was being really friendly to strangers, while you were thinking that Yamper and Electrike already began playing and sharing electric currents. “Hahaha! Your Electrike and my Yamper already became close friends! Now that is a totally great sign that we meant to meet Reader!” Sonia said that while winking at you. “Yeah I guess” You both chuckled. You both decided to take a walk with both of your Pokémon after eating at the cafe. And talked about everything and anything, while your Pokémon were playing happily with each other. When Electrike let Sonia pet it you just had to tell Sonia. “You know Sonia, Electrike is always cautious around people it has never met.” “Eh! Really? Well that just means that even Electrike knows that we are meant for each other.” You chucked “Yeah I guess”. You thought while seeing her smiling “Ah… She really is worth this ring in my pocket

A Summer to Remember
Anya was nine years old when she moved to Postwick.  Her father told her that this was only for the summer, it wasn’t long term.
She tried not to let it bother her. She tried to just let it fly over her head and was fully intent on spending the summer reading and aimlessly hiking about the hills with Drew.  She still needed to befriend him further, after all! She’d only had him as a “Partner” for a few months, and her parents still didn’t trust him.
That was annoying.
Out and about, sitting with a book, Drew was seemingly reading along with her, before -
“Hey! You there! Get away from that pokemon!!”
Anya looked up from her novel, and spotted a boy with dark skin and purple hair staring directly at her Yamask.
“Wha?”
“Yamasks take over people's bodies and eat souls!! You need to get away from it!”
“What? Where the ‘eck dja hear tha’?”
“My mum!”
“Well y’r mum is misinformed!” She shouted “Drew is m’friend! He’s readin’ wit’ me!”
“Pokemon can’t read!”
“Drew can! It's how he chose his name, you jerk!” Anya defended
“Yama!” Drew glared at the boy, who - instead of being scared - looked… interested
“He chose his name..? Why’d he choose Drew? That’s a dumb name” “Well it’s his name! So there!”
“Hm” the boy put his hands on his hips “Is he who y’re gonna travel with when you get to go train?” “I’m not gonna go train. I wanna go to school” She stated, her heckles still raised in defense “I wanna work with books!”
“An’ do what? Read ‘em?”
“... Partially” She shrugged “Now leave Drew alone. He’s not doin’ nothin’”
The boy crossed his arms “Hm… do you live around here? I’ve never seen you before!”
“I just moved here. I’m only gonna be here for the summer” She commented, looking a bit defensive, causing the boy to tilt his head
“Well, have you gotten the grand tour? Just cause you’re only here for a while doesn’t mean it's not your place!” He grinned, suddenly offering his hand “I’m Leon! Lemme show you around!”
Anya stared at his hand for a few moments before getting a surprisingly stubborn shove from her Yamask “Ah, fine - fine!” She dog-eared her book, and reached up almost nervously as Leon met her in the middle, grabbing her hand and pulling her up to her feet with little effort
“What’s y’r name?”
“Uh, Anya. M’names Anya”
Leon grinned at her, tipping his hat once he let go of her hand. “Well Anya, if you’re only gon’ be here for the summer, then you gotta get the most out of it - and I need a best friend for the season! Whadaya say?”
“... A summer best friend?” She turned her head a bit in an amusing, confused tilt.
“Yeah!”
“... You know what, sounds better than havin’ none” She reasoned, giving him a nod “I’ll do my best”
“All I can ask for!” Leon grinned “Come on, lemme show you around! There’s this cafe that offers cinnamon bread that looks like a yamper!”
“Wh- really? Why??”
The children headed back towards the town, Anya’s Yamask staying close, but giving them space. He seemed satisfied that his little friend was talking to another person that wasn’t her parents. She needed friends. Her brother was off on his own trainer journey, and she’d rather read - not something that would do in the old eyes of the pokemon.
Children needed to socialize, didn’t they?
Hah, as if he remembered.
Leon led Anya about the town with a certain eagerness, and even treated her to ice cream, walking her over to pastures to sit in the dull heat to enjoy the soft serve.
“Uh… thank ye’ f’r the ice cream” Anya sheepishly said, looking at the strawberry swirl melting into her hand “I’ll pay ya back”
“Ehhh it’s just my allowance, don’t worry about it” He grinned “But hey, now that i’ve shown you around, tell me about yourself! How’d you even get a Yamask? I thought they were real skittish? And spooky? Drew seems like a dork!”
Anya giggled “He isn't! I found him in a forest up north. He was all alone and didn’t attack me when i started askin’ him a bunch of questions. Then he helped me get home when I was lost and i kept comin’ back t’him. Eventually he followed me home, an’ he’s been my partner since then”
“Wow… you must have a good relationship with pokemon if you were able to do that”
The girl chuckled a bit sheepishly “I wouldn’t say tha’. I think it was jus’ him”
“Yama!” Drew nodded in agreement.
“Hah, so you got a special one?”
“Well he’s my friend. Of course he’s special”
Leon watched as the Yamask started to look a bit flustered at her compliment, seeming to want to admonish her, but letting out a bunch of jumbled “yam-ma”s, cracking him up.
The conversation continued, with the two of them trading facts about their lives
“I wanna be champion one day! I’m gonna do it, too!”
“Hah, if you do, I'll pay you PX 10000. It's so hard!”
“But it's not impossible!” he argued “And if I train really hard, and trust my pokemon, I’ll totally manage it!”
“Suuure”
“Hah, just you wait!”
“I will!”
“Well, what do you wanna do? You said you wanna work with books?”
“I wanna work in a library an’ help take care of old books!” She announced “Like, like this one!” Anya flipped to a previous page in her current book, showing him a picture of a large, thick, hardcover book with a golden and blue cover
“... What is it?”
“The legendary book of the Wolves!” She explained “It's the oldest surviving book in all of Galar! And I wanna work on books like it!”
“Whoa.. how old is it?”
“‘Leven hundred years old!” Anya explained “it’s not the oldest writin’ we ‘ave, but its the oldest book and- and it’s- “
Anya started to go on about the fascinating history of the Book of the Wolves and it’s mysterious author - Brother Del-reha. Leon found his attention completely taken - something that didn’t often happen - as she explained the story of the book to him as she’d headed through the book.
“Some people think tha’ the runes on the final page are a mysterious spell!”
“What kinda spell”
“No one knows! They’ve faded so much, no one can read ‘em!” “Is that why you wanna do that sort of thing?” Anya nodded “And Drew’s gonna help me, right Drew?”
“Yama!”
Leon grinned “That’s super cool. Do you know any other stories about weird old books?”
“Hah, I know *everything* about weird ol’ books!” “Prove it!”
And the two traded banter and questions and stories right up until the day was over, when they parted ways home, and Leon was quite confident that his Summer Best Friend was going to be the best Summer Best Friend ever.

Pokemon Journeys Episode 135 Review
Tumblr media
Pokemon Journeys Episode 135. Let’s review:
Here we are, second-to-last episode of Pokemon Journeys. How did things go?
Ehhh...
Let’s break down this episode from order of events.
First off, I’m not gonna beat around the bush here, but Ash’s reunion back at Pallet Town sucked. From reused animation from Episode 114 for Ash’s Pokemon to the general lack on fanfare, Ash really should’ve been giving much more respect upon arriving back home. Remember when the entire town gave Ash a whole party after winning Top 16 in the Kanto League? Not even Oak or Delia really give that much for Ash. Oak gives a rather basic poem and Delia, a lunch. And geez, guess Ash and Tracey really do secretly hate each other if Tracey’s gonna bounce right before Ash returns and Ash doesn’t even ask for him. And really, you’re not gonna have Ash’s Journeys team meet up with Ash’s old mons? Way to show respect to the guys who helped you train to actually be tough enough to stand against the Master 8 opponents, you pricks. Ash is a prick, too. Just gonna give a quick “hi” and “bye” to his old mons. So well fellow anipoke fans, give Ash’s old mons a good long look because we’re probably not gonna see them again for the next decade or two.
And now for Goh’s reunion with his mons at the Cerise Lab also sucked. One, apparently Goh brought Scizor, Flygon, and Golurk with him to his final trial?  Could’ve been super helpful if you actually used them, my dude. Just saying. Two, yeah, this whole moment just feels too flat. Regardless of what I said with Ash’s Pokemon reunion, at least there’s some weight to it because these are mons we’ve seen Ash used and bond with over the years. Here, we BARELY know Goh’s Pokemon, many of which are just complete blank slates, so this whole moment just feels too hollow to actually care for. And thirdly, don’t think I missed Mimey’s miscolored face in the scene prior to this one. How do you fuck something like that so badly? It looks like he got a really bad tan!
While it’s nice to see Ash, Goh, and Chloe have a few moments together for the second-to-last episode, many of its parts either feel overly dragged out, completely pointless, or both. Like we get this long flashback sequence of Goh playing with this random wild Abra and learning about it as they spend more time together, but what’s the point? Many said it’s to show Goh’s lonely childhood or his talent of understanding dex-levels knowledge of Pokemon, things we’ve already known of Goh since the very beginning. The Spearow chase was a nice callback to Anipoke’s first ever episode, but then there was this Poliwag which could’ve been a REALLY good callback usage for Ash’s own time in Pokemon School when he met Serena, but no, can’t expect something like that as well.
Chloe’s parts also felt like a waste. She only barely recaps her own experience with Eevee... and doesn’t even acknowledge Yamper at all.
And then Goh throws a fit because he made a choice to go on a journey without Goh’s consent. This was supposed to be played for like a big, dramatic moment, but then the two just pass things off real easily next time they see each other through another “haha funny argument”. And of course, gotta end the episode with Ash and Goh and just that. Yeah, fuck Chloe, just Ash and Goh the whole way through because lol. SO looking forward to the two FINALLY splitting apart next episode...
Look, having Lugia come back is a nice callback to Journeys’ second episode, but you can never even come close to convince Goh, and let alone Cinderace and Inteleon, should be seen fighting in a similar level of skill to Ash after he had just defeated THREE FUCKING CHAMPIONS consecutively. And why was Goh flabbergasted at the thought of battling Lugia? He’s battled like 5 Legendaries as of now.
Anyways, gonna give this episode a 2/10. For Journeys’ second-to-last episode, what a boring drag.

Vs: Gym Leader Milo + RIP: Pigeon...
When I entered Turffield, I saw Hop waiting for me near the Pokemon Center. He pointed towards the big building in the center of town: Turffield Stadium. Milo has apparently just arrived to the Stadium and it's jam packed with challengers. Since it'll take ages before it's our turn, there's no rush. Hop informs me that Sonia is looking for me and wanted to ask me about something. Sonia's Yamper approached me and guided me towards her.
When I followed Yamper to the top of the hill, Sonia was there waiting for me. She wanted me to come 'cause she wanted to hear what I thought about a geoglyph on the side of a hill. It looks like a weird Dynamaxed Pokemon. Maybe the people of 3,000 years ago could've just imagined it, but it's unlikely. Sonia went on explaining what the Darkest Day is, trying to figure out if there's any connection between The Darkest Day and Dynamax. Sonia thanked me for listening to her ramblings and gave me Milo's League Card. Before I went to challenge Milo, I explored the town.
As I approached Turffield Stadium, Hop was standing in front of the doors. He flexed that he got the gym badge first try. He knew I would complete the gym challenge, tho. I enter and go straight towards the challenge... AfterPickingUpTheFriendBallFromBallGuy. I like him, he's chill but friendly.
As soon as I entered the gym, I was told what the Gym Mission of Turffield Stadium was: to herd sheep. I've never done this before, but it felt...natural. It felt right. Sheep...
Along the way, there were 2 obstacles to me doing my job: Yampers that scared the Wooloo and trainers who fought me. They were no issue, however. I dealt with them easily. Only people who gave me trouble was 2 trainers with an Oddish. Stupid Paralysis...
I managed to herd the Wooloo with no issue, and made it to the end. I took a deep breath and walked up the stairs at the end and through the big door. As I was about to enter the battle field, I could hear the Crowd's cheers. I took one last breath....and Proceeded.
Milo and I walked out towards the center of the field and met face to face. His gym's the first one people face, so he gets a lot of challengers. That's why he tries to keep the gym mission challenging, but that didn't stop me from completing it. It seems like I understand Pokemon real well, he says. He anticipates that our battle will be a doozy. He might even have to Dynamax his Pokemon for a chance to win. With that, we walk to our sides...and engage in battle.
You are challenged by Gym Leader Milo!
He sends out a Gossifleur as his first Pokemon and I send out Vee. My first move is to use Tail Whip to lower defense, and he responds with using Round to attack. I use Covet to deal over half of Gossifleur's hp, and Gossifleur's Round deals an increased amount if damage. A Quick Attack finishes off Gossifleur.
He has one more Pokemon to send out: Eldegoss. I switch from Vee to Pigeon. He's the only one with a Super Effective move while also not being weak to Grass. Milo shouts that he's not done just yet, he and his Pokemon are as tough as weeds. As he sends out his last Pokemon, I can hear the crowd cheering us both on. The cheering makes me feel excited, hyping me up. Now I realize the excitement behind the Gym Challenge. With Pigeon out, I decide to Dynamax. Seems like Milo had the same Idea, dynamaxing Eldigoss, ready to uproot me. He hits first, landing a Max Overgrowth, setting up the Grassy Terrain. But I hit back with a Max Airstream, boosting my Speed. With my Speed boosted, I use max Airstream first, and hit hard. Eldegoss uses Max Overgrowth again. We're both left at low yellow HP. It's all up to this final move. I use Max Overgrowth one last time, but Eldegoss barely lives. Eldegoss uses Max Strike and...kills Pigeon. As Pigeon undynamaxes in a fiery explosion, I send her back into her ball. Eldigoss also Undynamaxes. I send out Vee to finish off Eldegoss, who's at low Red hp. A single Quick attack finishes off Eldigoss.
We manage to beat Milo, but not without suffering a loss. Mili congratulates me on beating him, but I can't hear a word he says as I look at Pidove in her Pokeball. She's not moving. She's not breathing. Why...does this happen only to me? Everyone elses Pokemon only faint. They can be brought back with a Revive or a trip to the Pokemon Center! Why do mine die?! As I was processing this, Milo taps my shoulder, bringing me back to reality. He wants to give me a Grass Badge as a congratulations for beating me and shakes my hand. He reminds me that I have to obtain all 8 gym badges in order to complete the Gym Challenge.
As I leave the gym with my badge in hand, one of the gym trainers congratulates me and gives me a TM. TM 10: Magical Leaf. Milo also approaches me and gives me some advice: the Gym Challenge has a set order I need to follow. My next stop will be in Hulbury to face Nessa. Hulbury is a little beyond Route 5. But since I git the Grass Badge, I should explore the Wild Area.
With that, I finished my first Gym Battle with a badge under my belt, but faced a heavy loss.

Note
(Gary anon) Well, incoming news says that semifinals will be 6v6, it's looking like Diantha will gone in one episode since Ash vs Cynthia is the very next one. On the other side, looks like folks will finally get that full battle with Cynthia. Which makes more worried for the Leon fight; not even just it being potentially overshadowed. (And I more or less think any serious battle with Gary is dead with this news) It's astounding how much a year caused most to change their tune about Journeys.
.
(Part 2) BW was mainly divisive for feeling like a soft reboot{if I had a dollar for every time Trip's Snivy and Cameron is mentioned}, JN is an amalgamation of continuity from every previous series while trying to juggle in Galar to varying results. (It's hitting everyone in different ways, for better AND for worse) The catching goal did him more harm than good with how they executed it; some expect him to catch Mew but it being nothing special cause of such.
(Part 3) The weird treatment of the Galar starters; not his fault. And any significant interactions he's had with other characters got heavily dwarfed by Ash's, or is mostly borrowed from him, which kinda limited Goh from having anything that's unique to him. (Journeys seems like it was a duo protagonist anime first and foremost, but geez, it felt like they try their hardest to keep Chloe out of stuff. We still never got how she and Goh met; and they're childhood friends?
(Part 4) And oof, I never saw a fandom that hate an Eevee more than Lana's. I understand being burnt out on them being used by the Pokegirls, but some are feeling it's the worst thing that happened to Chloe's character. *I don't think next week is going to really change the reception of her. Even the hypothetical Gary meeting wouldn't completely ease things) The recap was confirmed an episode; dub is definitely skipping it. It was mainly quizzes.
(Part 5) *Young Cerise next week though, I think the theme is evolutionary stones with him and Chloe. "1 2 3" got album art and is releasing in October. Iris' and Goh's Japanese VAs unfortunately got Covid. And the infamous Articuno episode for the dub is in 2 weeks.
(Part 6) (So, JN121 is apparently an Ash PWC recap; which means we're definitely getting a Goh/Project Mew one. Which may or may not happen right after the semifinals. With that in mind, that leaves about roughly 8 unknown episodes left. If Ash vs Cynthia is a 2-parter that's 1. The Mew search could be 2-3 episodes, same for Ash vs Leon. And 1 more for JN's conclusion. Assuming Journeys ends on Nov. 4, there isn't room for anything else)
Ah. That's something.
Yeah, the way people’s stances changed over the course of a year (though personally, I’ve mostly just continued to think it’s cute and fun).
Yeah--BW was also divisive because of the flanderization of Ash, the TRio being more serious, and because racists didn’t like Iris, I remember from being online a bit back in those days.
Journeys had a really ambitious premise, and that’s had its pros and cons. (And I’m afraid the slow start did it some harm in the long run, as enjoyable as the episodic vibe was.)
It’s unfortunate. Goh has a really enjoyable personality and watching him grow as a person has been nice, but because of some issues with the writing the fandom treats him as the scapegoat for everything wrong with Journeys.
Yeah, the Chloe situation is really unfortunate. And at this point, odds are there’s basically nothing that could salvage it. (People do sort of overreact to her Eevee, honestly. Personally I think it’s a nice parallel, though I do wish Yamper hadn’t been shafted so much.)
Young Cerise! That seems like it’ll be a cute one.
Ooh, I saw the album art on Twitter! Very nice. I wonder if that means they’ll put it on Spotify.
Oh, I heard about that... wishing them a smooth and speedy recovery, covid sucks.
That’ll be something. I wonder if the fandom’s going to get in a tizzy over it again.
Oh wow, I know I keep saying this but there’s so few episodes left. I can’t believe how close to the end we are.

pile of headcanons
bunch of raihan/leon headcanon nonsense from my twit*r
theres alot under the cut, warning : its cheesy, also, i headcanon raihan calling leon "bubu"
Raihan is really good at baking and leon is great at cooking savory & spicy food, raihan likes spicy food and leon likes baked goods, they complete each other
Leon so thick and firm he'd be so good to hug and raihan took advantage of that, holding his bubu until leon complains or whine, yknow when ur pet looks so cute and u hug them, like that
leon contacts name on raihans phone is like "♥💖my bubu♥💕", but raihans contact name on leons phone is "Raihan" with capital R
raihan complained about it, showed leons contact name on his phone, leon is surprised bc he thought his contact name on raihans phone is just "Leon" or "Lee"
then leon changes rai's contact name too "🥰raihoney💖
leon doesnt look like the guy who'd be extra on hair and skin treatment, the reason his hair and skin (especially his hair) is unbearably soft and shiny is bc raihan kept reminding him to do so (and buying it)
sometimes leon act spoiled so raihan will do an entire haircare for him
yes raihan do it bc he loves leon unconditionally and he thinks leon deserves it
raihan has a dirty mouth and uses every swear word but for some reasons, around leon all he can say is "jerk" "ugly" and "dumb"
raihan does that bc all he remember when hes with leon is pet names and how-to-coo-and-woo-your-boyfriend
raihan being leons moral compass feels fitting, not bc leon is dumb but bc leon himself is swallowed by his own title and got the hero complex, making him selfless and have a hard time to say no
raihan is there to "what the fuck are you thinking, dont do that baby, you'll die"
but leon seems stubborn yes? he wont listen if people just say "no", he'd ask the reason why, and if the said person doesnt give a clear answer, he leaves but raihan always tries to explain him in full description, short & long lasting damage, consequence etc
so obviously leon listens, and as time goes by, raihan is.. his moral compass, in a way
raihan playfully growls while squeezing leons body parts but its definitely not so playful in leons mind
raihan always ask leon to wear his freshly-washed-hoodie at sunday so when he go to work at monday, his hoodie will smell like leon
raihans laugh is like "aha haha haha *low volume wheeze* phew heehee" and leon got a laugh that can trigger an earthquake
Raihan sneeze like a kitten while leon sneeze like a buldozer
Leon muffles his laugh by hugging raihan so it wont surprise anyone around them
leon demanding affection from raihan by giving him stupid empty threats
leon : Kiss me or ill
raihan : u will what
leon : i-i will shrink your hoodie and make it mine
raihan : no, now come here bubu
In reality, leon doesnt need to do "things" to get raihans attention, raihan told him he can just ask or "just sit on my lap or tug my shirt and ill cuddle and kiss you till the next day", but leons ego is too high for that so he does stupid shit instead
raihan is very loved by leons family bc surprisingly hes able to stop leon and hop from fighting
if u ask how, raihan simply pick up leon up and walk away
aihan is the only guy who leon will listen too and got called as the "champion tamer"
but all raihan do is just
raihan : bubu, no
leon : no..?
raihan : leon. no
leon : no...
then nag him softly while explaining the consequences, sometimes short and long term effect it depends on the situation
leon is stubborn, so it took sometime to convince him that his plan or an action he almost took to partake is very impulsive or doesnt give a good result
the thing is leon is not stupid, infact hes quite brilliant, therefore its hard to convince him if a person who tries to stop him doesnt have a similiar mind like he is, but thankfully theres raihan
for some reasons raihan is able to found leon in any occasion so the league staff ALWAYS calls him whenever leons gone
league staff : mr rai-
raihan : is it leon
league staff : yes
raihan : im on my way
leon likes to ask raihan for hairbands bc he kept losing them
raihan : bubu, isnt this your third time asking for them this week
leon : ....yes..?
raihan spoiling leon bc he feels he wants to make up for him, bc he wasnt available near leon when fought eternatus
leon follows raihan everywhere in the winter and kept pressing himself to him, whenever raihan question whats wrong leon just looked him in the eye and "im warming you up"
leon is small by raihans perspective but he hugs leon tight anyway
raihan is possessive of leon hes THAT hot, charismatic yet very adorable, leon is the one who keeps his chin up and soothe his fears, and hes the champion, everyone wants the champion, u think he'll let go that easily? no, never
and leon is probably possessive too, raihan is a hot nerd, affectionate and gentle, hes the one who push him to his best, the one who also stops him for doing too much, hes his source of comfort and he wont let go and wont let anyone take his raihan away from him for sure
10 years of friendship and healthy rivalry means 10 years of being on each others live, being one of the biggest contributor and supporter for the other, who pushes to the limit yet stopping when one is too close to the edge of the cliff
no matter if its platonic or romantic, they wont let anyone take their rival, friend and lover away that easy, you wont let anyone try to take away one of the important and huge part of your life
raihan big, so hes the big spoon, he loves cooing right at leons ears and kissing the back of his neck, shoulders and sometimes reaches forward to press a sloppy wet kiss to leons cheek
leon crying to raihan when he founds out raihan smokes when hes stressed out, and begging the other to stop and talk to him instead or cope with healthier way
raihan doesnt need an alarm clock to wake him up, leons just need to grin and say "good morning!" its so bright it WILL wake him up
raihan and leon lives together and since then the outfit leon has on his wardrobe is a collection of formal tailored outfits and his battle tower outift, some booty shorts and work out clothing, and obviously underwear and socks.the rest he just stole from raihan
especially t-shirts, hoodies, and jacket, raihan seeing him walking and opening his wardrobe after shower is such a common occurence that he doesnt even need to ask anymore
raihan looks like the type who carries lipbalm and hand cream in his hoodie pocket, he carries 2, 1 cocoa lipbalm for him and honey lipbalm for leon. whenever he met leon, he applies the lip balm on him, it becomes habit that leon even raise his chin up for raihan
leon can sleep alone fine, but when he woke up he felt groggy, but if he slept on top of raihan he'd woke up like he had a perfect 8 hours sleep even tho he slept for only 5 hours
raihan is a heavy sleeper but waking up with leon glued to his chest/back make his whole day better, especially when he woke up to leon peppering his face with kisses to wake him up
raihan being lowkey flustered and overwhelmed by leons beauty/cuteness/sexiness/everything while leon is being clingy and acting spoiled around him
leon cant be serious around raihan, when he saw the gym leader,he automatically let his guard down infront of him, changing from champion leon to leon from postwick, all giddy and happy
leon unzips his champion outfit and once raihan heard the zipping sound he zooms to leon to plant his face between leons chest
if leon wants attention from raihan he will do various things from holding his arm and press his head to raihans shoulders, sitting on his lap and loop his arm around raihans neck, hugging him from the front and put on a cute face
but if raihan wants attention he just, hug leon from behind, put his head on leons shoulder and doesnt let go until leon does SOMETHING
leon has been taking care of others for so long,so when raihan takes care of him ,its a new,yet quite familiar feeling.
its hard to accept since he felt bad about receiving the attention, but raihan kept doing it until leon tend to act spoiled around him
raihan always kiss leons forehead before he sleeps, when raihan is away, he has the urge to videocall raihan so he can coo him to sleep, but hes too embarrassed to do it
he thought abt that and raihan suddenly videocalling him,its noon on the region he visited, and hes like "heeeey, i just want to say good night to my beloved!! good night leon, sweet dreams, sorry bc i cant kiss your forehead but ill kiss u 10x more when im back"
leon was shocked and stared to his camera "lee? fuck,is the connection that bad-" and leon stuttered "n-no! i was surprised...thank you darling, have fun and stay safe okay?"
"of course! dont stay up thinking abt me for too long,i love you so much bubu, good night!
"..good afternoon raihoney,i love you too" leon stayed up for the next 20 minutes rolling around the bed screaming
raihan actually helps leon on taking care of his dragons, which made leons dragonmons actingspoiled around raihan, and sometimes leon thinks that his dragons loves raihan more than him
raihan plays with his dragonmon as if hes playing with a yamper, calling them "cute little babywubby" and playing with their hands, kissing their foreheads and lays with them on the floor, and of course leon joins in by laying on top or next to raihan
even leon have seen raihan carrying his dragapult like a baby with a baby axew hugging his legs, raihan is legit a dragon pokemon magnet
raihan has a habit of cooing or complimenting at leon even when hes doing the simplest thing ever and leon feels giddy like a 5 y.o everytime raihan does it
can u imagine how many pictures of leon raihan have on his phone, its probably more than 1000, he takes picture of leon as if hes a baby pokemon
leon comes to raihans place at 2 am without any warning,i mean raihan DID gave him a spare key so, raihans flat is HIS flat too,and there he goes, going to the bedroom and slip himself under the duvet, crawling to sleep closer to raihan
at first raihan is SO surprised that he jumped from the bed,but now he doesnt care anymore and just kiss leons head, mumbles "goo'nite bubh" and sleep again
leon does it so often that if hes gone from his apartment, people call raihan instead of him
raihan hugging leon from the back while leon is doing stuff in the kitchen while singing, and raihan is there like, peppering smooches and compliments while leon is STILL singing, and giggling bc raihan is smooching him
raihan is BAD at it but he sings along with leon in a joking manner and leon cant even sing anymore bc hes just wheezing while raihan is just "cmOn bAbeEEe SING AgAiiiNNnn"

The zorua smiled approaching very quickly Shelly with a cheery smile "Hello there love !" she greeted before reaching over to her side taking out a bag "I brought some pokepuffs for you and you're family here !" she now looked over the place "Say love, I would love to hear about you're younger years with you're husband do you have any fun stories"
(Shelly giggled graciously) Aww, thank you dear! You shoul--
(Nick bolted in with a look of excitement) POKEPUFFS!!! YAAASSS!!!!--OUCH!
(Shelly is quick to grab Nick by the scruff of his neck just before he can do any damage.) --dn't have...Nick, hun, i know you're excited about these things, but can you PLEASE NOT tackle our guests in excitement?! For Zamazenta's sake, show some control!
(Nick sniffles, breaking into a sob realizing what just happened) S-sorry mom...sob...
(Shelly releases Nick's scruff and then turns him around to hug him tightly and consolingly) Ni--Nick, don't cry...I'm sorry I had to discipline you then and there. I know you know better, you know you know better, you just need to learn to curb impulses like these. I know you love these things as much as a sweet Malasada, but you're a grown Greedent now. You're bigger than me and Dad even. You can't go doing that anymore! It was cute as a Skwovet, but...you're not a Skwovet anymore.
(Nick sighs longingly as he calmed down) I-I know. Ma'am? I'm sorry I almost tackled you, Miss Zorua. I meant well, but I got excited...
(Shelly giggled) What are we supposed to do when someone gives us treats like these, dear?
(Nick) Sit patiently on my haunch and say "Please" and "Thank you!"?
(Shelly) Good boy! Now go play your video games dear, I'll bring you in a few pokepuffs in a minute. Lemme finish up my conversation first though, okay?
(Nick) Yes mom! I love you mom!
(Shelly) I love you too Nicky.
* As soon as Shelly lets go of Nick, and hears the door to Nick's room click, she continues with her conversation with Darling.
(Shelly lets out a sheepish and embarrassed chuckle looking downward apologetically) I'm sorry about my son there. Normally, he's kind of shy and curious, but when you mention things he likes, *Shelly snaps her paw* just like that. Super excited like a young Yamper. And then he gets embarrassed when he realizes what he's been doing, and well, ehe, neurodivergent children, what can you do? Just gotta push them away from the wrong direction every now and then. But usually, my son is well behaved.
(Shelly clears her throat trying to brush aside the distraction from her mind) Anyways, that aside, you know who was spry like a Yamper? John, when we first met. Bounciest little Yungoos I ever met. Would have never believed he was three quarters of a year older than me had I never asked! He had a real fighting spirit in him, but I was so much stronger than him that I didn't want to outshadow him, so I held myself back as I watch him topple rattatas and the like, complimenting him all the while.
(Shelly showed a tiny blush on her cheeks and ears, as her tail suddenly poked in front of her face) I guess all that complimenting and such ended up being the fuel for our future relationship, because I suppose as it went on, it didn't take long before most of those compliments became not only encouraging, they were also starting to become genuine as well, most especially after he evolved. Then they started getting heartfelt and lovey-mushy...

For dealing with the Nuzlocke spam, I got some headcannons for you. :) They may be bland but I really like them.
Hermit Craft
- Grian specializes in flying type Pokémon. Grian would probably have a Ledian, an Altaria, Togekiss, Ducklet, and Archen.
- Mumbo def needs to have a Centiskorch, Joltik, and a Rotom.
- Those who specialize in red stone also have a ton of electric types. You can’t tell me otherwise.
- Builders got strong Pokémon. Probably water, ground/rock, and grass types for sure because decoration helpers! And building helpers!
Dream SMP
- Tommy def has a Scraggy.
- Oh what’d be cute is if Tubbo and Tommy got a pair of starters together. Like they both got some Rockruffs and they evolved into the different forms. Tubbo got the Midday form, but they have a biiig personality and bad temper. Will easily attack everything and anything that annoys or offends it. Tommy gets the Midnight form and besides the looks, it isn’t that scary. It’s probably one of the sweetest Pokémon you’ve ever met.
- They probably also have Plusle and Minun
- Oh god Ranboo having that Morpeko because aw it’s small and cute and kinda like him! It has two colors! And so easy to care for! And then it shifts :/ sigh. He doesn’t even remember that it shifts so he doesn’t expect it to happen. ever. And when it does, he almost always responds with “they’ve never done this before!” While Tommy and Tubbo just give him a look that just says “you sure about that”. If ranboo weren’t panicking so much, he’d probably be asking them what was up with the faces.
- Techno has all of these super strong Pokémon but the catch is half of them don’t even look strong. You just see this lineup of super strong and big Pokémon, and then you have a jigglypuff or something that literally sweeps their whole team.
- What if Wilbur had a Chatot, a Chingling , and a Jigglypuff? Little music buddies!
- Haha Fundy got Fenekin for the aesthetic. I also seen him having a Yamper and a Joltik.
- I think Nicki to would have a Galarian!Ponyta And a Vulpix.
- Puffy has to have a Wooloo. Fits her vibe and aesthetic.
- Bad would seem like he deals with a lot of dark type Pokémon, but he’d definitely also have a toooon of fairy types because of how cute they are ☺️
- George has to have the Primarina line. And an Alolan Meowth.
- Sapnap specializes in fire type Pokémon. He probably has a Charizard, Rapidash, Litleo, and an Arcanine.
- Karl has come in contact with Celebi a few times because of his time-traveling shenanigans. But because of his time traveling shenanigans, maybe he owns some psychic and fairy types? I can see him owning fairy types period, but he’d gain some temporary physic type companions on his little “trips”.
I think you can tell I know the dream smp better than the hermit Craft server. I’m getting to know them now, though! Really liking all of them, which is a surprise. I don’t always like everyone from the get-go of a series. -🦤
All of this???? Yes??? Where do I even start? Also sprinkling in my own ideas
Grian having flying types is a no brainer, redstoners having electric types makes soo much sense, Love mumbos mustache bug (especially since I have a soft spot for rotom) builders having pokemon that can help them teroform and carry heavy materials? Absolutely!
Tommy and Tubbo having a ton of pairs??? And since Tommy has a scraggy I'm gonna toss in Tubbo having a beedrill. The lycanrocks idea is top notch! That whole morpeko ranboo situation is just so perfect. Techno having such unassuming power houses- (maybe also an embore cause haha stong professional fighter pig), Wilbur little poke-band is adorable!! Fundy, Nicki and puffys fit thier vibe so well, love the whole dark and fairy thing bad has going on. George having primarina works more than I expected it to, I also need him to have a komala. Sap having arson buddies is expected but still a+, Karl having run ins with celebi is AAA just having psychic and fairy mons,,,, you absolutely nailed it with these <3!!!
In conclusion: woops I dropped my- ❤💞💕💗💞💘❣💓💗💌❤💖💝💞💗💓❣💌

Hey hun! Dunno if you're taking requests at the moment... but I saw that analysis on Leon's room and it got me thinking... what would Leon's early travels be like while he was taking the gym challenge? I feel like we didn't get to hear to much about it, other than Sonia saying a few things, but I was wondering what your take on it would be? Feel free to ignore this ask if you've got a lot going on at the moment! But thank you if you end up answering! ^^
Hello there! This ask makes me seriously happy! I’m so glad you liked my post about his room! I love thinking about young Leon and his gym challenge, I see so many pictures of him on Pinterest of him as a youngster with Charmander and I die of cuteness every time, so here's some hc's of mine to go along with this! :3 Thank you for such a lovely ask!
So first of all, I sort of hc that Leon and Sonia took the Gym Challenge the same year as Raihan, so all three of them became pretty close friends during this. Leon and Raihan probably met at the opening ceremony or at one of the gyms at hit it off, constantly arguing in a playful way about who was going to be stronger.
The Wild Area was definitely a struggle for Leon. Sonia and her Yamper leading him to the right path, as she mentioned in the game? Definitely happened here 😂. Sonia probably did her best to not let him out of her sight, but of course when Leon gets excited about something, or saw a Pokemon he really wanted to catch or battle, he would just run off at a moment’s notice. He caught a lot of cool Pokemon that way, but often had to call Sonia on his Rotom phone to have her come find him, who gave him a light scolding later on lol.
Leon learns how to cook in the Wild Area while he’s camping and such, but isn’t necessarily the best. He’s decent at making spicy foods, which are his favorite, although the reason they’re likely better than his usual is that he puts a lot of spices in to mask any other imperfections since the focus is mainly on the spice when you eat it. Sonia does a lot of their cooking. Raihan is a little more independent and does his own thing, but will pop in every once and while and set his tent up near theirs. Sonia and Leon set their tents up at the same camping spot together virtually every night to keep Leon from getting lost and to just have a friend nearby. In my opinion, Sonia develops a slight crush on him at least once over the course of their Gym Challenge, but it never really goes further than that. Leon’s so focused on his Gym Challenge and eventually Sonia realizes this, so she gets over it pretty quickly.
In his journey, there’s probably a few spots that Leon really likes. Of course, the Wild Area is something he absolutely loves. It gives him a chance to get really strong and meet strong Pokemon, which as we know is something Leon really puts care in. Particularly the Lake of Outrage is a favorite of his. There’s a lot of really strong and interesting Pokemon there, and the Pokemon that come out of hiding in the different weather is incredible to him. And is also probably where he met his Dreepy, which he evolved into Dragapult. He also probably really likes the cold, mountainous area leading up to Wyndon. There’s quite a few strong Pokemon there too, and he can just feel how excited and eager those Pokemon are to join in some exciting battles, maybe feeding off the energy that comes from the city nearby.
Which of course brings me to Wyndon. I hc that Leon absolutely loved the city life at first. Compared to Postwick, it’s so bustling, exciting and new to him, with a lot of people excitedly talking about Pokemon battles and the upcoming challenge. It matches his own passion and excitement for battles and the Championship Cup in a way a lot of the other places along his journey didn’t. Hammerlocke was probably the closest thing to matching his excitement, although it still had a different atmosphere that didn’t quite match his, although he was incredibly excited to see all of the history-related things in the city. Leon’s room is a clear indication that he IS smart, and that he enjoys learning new information. Just like he did with Pokemon, he also most likely went to all of those historical spots in the towns to learn about Pokemon, something a lot of challengers may not have done. Obviously in Sword and Shield you do since you’re helping Sonia make discoveries, but in reality, unless you have a strong passion for learning and history/science/etc, a Gym Challenger could easily breeze by something like that and ignore it. But Leon, despite being incredibly excited for his own journey, most likely dragged Sonia to all of these exhibits and areas to learn more about the history of Galar and Pokemon, in part because he hopes it will help him learn about Pokemon to make him stronger and in part for him to just continue learning. Seeing these places eventually makes something click for Sonia and she ends up being thankful that he’s brought her along to them.
Naturally, every time they stopped in a city that had boutiques, Leon was quick to pick up a new hat. He picked up a new hat in just about every city he could. He might even have done it as a ‘reward’ for himself for winning a battle. Like, once he beat a Gym Leader, he treated himself to a new hat. Eventually Sonia noticed his bag being so full, seeing that it was full of caps and made him send some home. Partly to make sure he had room to carry actually important things with him and partly because it would damage the caps. Sonia liked fashion and clothes too, and would hate to see Leon ruin his new clothes too. After her lecture on how he was damaging the caps, Leon almost always had them sent home unless he wanted to swap it out. His fashion sense in buying other clothes was still absolutely atrocious, but still adorable.
The Gyms were fairly easy for Leon, breezing through most of them, except one: Melony, who would have been old enough to still be Gym Leader during that time. Not only did he have a few dragon types that were pretty well damaged by Melony’s ice types, but her Gigantamax Lapras wasn’t weak to Charizard, and was in fact, strong against it being an ice and water type. Leon also doesn’t typically seem to use electric types, and there’s a solid chance that his Charizard wouldn’t have known electric-type moves by then (I hc he probably did some special training for that to happen/Pokemon have to go through some special training with Pokemon of that type to learn moves outside of their specific typing). He still won on his first try, but it was a very close match. The dragon-type leader was also probably a bit of a tougher match for him since dragons usually aren’t weak to fire, but still less of a challenge than Melony.
Leon’s definitely the challenger that a lot of other Gym Challengers look up to and admire, and with him being favored to win their year, though Raihan comes in as a close second. A lot of people loved his adorable Charmander, but he was certainly seen as incredibly ‘cool’ once his Charmeleon evolved into Charizard. Charizard isn’t exactly a common Pokemon in Galar, coupled with it being incredibly strong, people grew fascinated by it very quickly.
Their match during the quarter finals is really close and intense: Leon beating Raihan by just a hair. Many people were incredibly impressed by their match, for both men. Raihan was offered a position at the Hammerlocke Gym almost immediately after their match, and Leon received several proposals for endorsements contingent on his win against the Champion. Despite how intense their exhibition matches were in the subsequent years, many people still regard their quarter finals matches as one of the best matches in Galar history. There’s probably a rerun screening of it whenever Gym season pops up each year honestly.

Bundle of Yarrow Chapter 9 is up!
the 9th chapter of my Milo x Reader fic Bundle of Yarrow is up! you can read it below the cut or over at AO3. this chapter is mostly inspired by an ask wanting to see a scene of Milo getting jealous! see my attempt at creating tension as you struggle to deal with suddenly being a part of the gym challenge.
Exiting Motostoke was like shifting into a completely different setting. The west side of the city was dominated by warehouses and loading equipment. Sounds of metal against metal and tumbling construction material overwhelms the magic feel of the city. Instead, haze from billowing smokestacks and whiffs of waste occupied your senses as you walked through to Route 3. You never thought you’d miss the Wild Area, but you would trade this for the scent of the forests any day.
“Whew! Now I remember why I never visit Turffield on foot unless it’s from Hulbury.” Sonia complains, waving a hand in front of her nose. “I think the last time I’ve been to Route 3 was for our gym challenge!”
Earlier in the day, Sonia showed you a statue of a hero with a sword and shield in the lobby of the Budew Drop Inn while you waited for Leon to get ready. She was reading the inscription and looking information up online while writing in her notebook. It was an interesting listen, hearing about Galarian folklore and the mysteries that remained. Her excitement and curiosity was infectious. Even though you had little relationship to this region’s mythologies, you were becoming invested in her adventure for finding out the truth. Apparently there are ancient sites in Turffield that may have leads for her research, so she decided to walk with you over to your first stop in the gym challenge.
“You don’t have to rough it with me, you know. You’re able to take a flying taxi over to Turffield.” You offer nonchalantly, not trying to give away that you do indeed want her company, but don’t want to feel like a bother. “It’s just me that has to do all the walking.”
“Absolutely not.”
A few paces behind you was Leon, except upon a cursory glance you might not be able to tell. He was dressed in joggers and a hoodie that contained his hair, complete with wrap-around sports sunglasses that tinted your reflection in yellows and greens. This is the first time you’ve seen Leon incognito, more used to his open, public displays of celebrity. In a group chat with you and Sonia, Nessa gossiped about Leon getting scolded by League higher-ups and was told to not be seen with you anymore. He was also given a bunch of work by Chairman Rose related to some new energy plan Marcos Cosmos was prototyping. Leon wouldn’t tell you more than that, only he was escorting you to the Galar Mines on the other side of Route 3, picking up some samples, and heading to Hammerlocke, which you learned is a city north of the Wild Area.
You couldn’t put your finger on it exactly, but it felt like Leon was hovering over you all day so far. He would reach for things to give to you the moment you were about to get them yourself, or he would take your coffee cup while you were texting on your phone. Leon insisted that he come along with you because you needed some training to do well at the gym challenge. You still weren’t completely sure about this whole gym challenge thing, but you figured he was right, given he’s a champion and all.
Things weren’t exactly settled with you though. When you woke up, your phone had a huge influx of notifications from Pokegram. Turns out that Raihan posted the selfies he took with you at dinner on his account and tagged you. This only seemed to stoke the speculation online about a relationship between you and Leon. While the idea didn’t offend you, things definitely didn’t feel like there was romance in the air. He always acted weird towards you, despite making advances on you twice. Not to mention, there has to be something going on him with and Sonia…
“It’s nice to do the walkin’ sometimes! Durin’ challenge season things get so busy, there’s no choice but to use flyin’ taxis.”
It was hard not to smile with Milo’s matter-of-fact optimism, seeming to be in a much better mood today and back to his usual pleasant self. He walked next to you with that permanent soft rise in the corners of his lips, not looking at all encumbered holding bags of last minute grocery shopping you did. Early this morning he actually went to get the group coffee and tea while you dragged yourselves out of bed and got ready to leave. On your way past the markets of the city you remember how you wanted to stock up on some cooking materials for the trip, and might have went a smidge overboard. You wanted to get some fresher ingredients for the first couple of days, so you got some sausage to cook for tonight and a good medley of mushrooms and veggies for tomorrow. After that, you knew you had to get things that preserve for a bit, so you also bought some potatoes and pre-cooked burger sealed tight, along with a couple cups of emergency instant noodles. And of course, plenty of curry mix! What escaped your calculations was how much all of that would weigh, and the current lack of space in your bag.
And as if on cue, with little effort at all, Milo just lifted the bag out of your arms and informed everyone he was joining you all on the trek over to Turffield. You were quite surprised, since he probably needed to get to his gym to prepare for the first wave of challengers. Milo said he wanted to stretch his legs and take things slowly before the rush, but you wondered if that was the full story. Come to think of it, this was when Leon’s weird behavior began.
As the group crossed out of Motostoke and to the dirt path of Route 3, Leon stopped you. He was scoping out the rustling in the tall grass and took notice of young trainers loitering around hoping to get some practice in. When he turns to you, he has a bit of a smirk and hands on his hips.
“Okay, it’s time to get serious about your training! Let’s go over some basics and give you some strategy.” He holds up eight fingers, four on each hand. “So there are eight gyms, what is unique about them?”
You blink a couple of times. “They all specialize in different types, even I know that Le-” He quickly makes a hushing gesture with a finger over his mouth. “Um, mysterious Mr. Man?” Sonia doesn’t hide her giggle.
“So you have to visit each of these in an order, right? It only makes sense that you try to capture and train Pokemon that have type advantages for your next gym. Then when you get to the championships, which you will, you can select the Pokemon you’ve bonded with the best to train for the end.”
“This feels like cheating, but okay.” You look over to Milo, who is looking down the route but casually listening in. “So it’s your gym first, and I feel like everyone has been saying you like Grass types?”
Milo smiles at you and gives a thumbs up. “You got it! In fact, you already met the Pokemon you’ll be battlin’.” That must mean the ones he introduced to you while you were camping.
“Right, now Milo isn’t that much of a challenge,” Milo stiffens a bit at Leon’s comment. “So as long as you find the right types, you can win pretty easy. Since his gym challenge only uses two Pokemon, you only need two yourself. And I’ll help you train!” His grin only widens, he’s really into this. “Do you know what is good against Grass?”
You try to remember the times you’d have lunch and Hop would force Gloria to quiz him on type matchups. Whether it’s helpful or not, you try to imagine literal grass and what it wouldn’t like. “Fire, Bugs, umm… and Ice?”
Leon nods. “Also Flying and Poison, so there are plenty of choices to beat Milo with.” Out of the corner of your eye, you notice Milo’s smile is gone and his expression is very difficult to read. It’s not that nervous, fumbling side that comes out every once in a while, it’s… something else. “This route is the habitat for a few fire Pokemon, Growlithe, Vulpix, and if you’re willing to do some searching, there’s Sizzlipedes too. And catching you a Rookidee wouldn’t hurt either. I can train you with the Thwackey I have on me, we need to work on your battling form.”
It’s hard to not feel a bit overwhelmed by everything Leon is shooting at you. But before you can protest much, he leads you down the route to begin your training. He gets nearby trainers to battle you, coaching you from how you throw your Pokeball to giving commands. Yelling orders at your Pokemon makes you deeply uncomfortable, so you try to work around Leon’s advising by cheering them on or getting better at reading the situation and relaying that information to them. You can tell Leon is biting his tongue, because while it seems like you’re winning battles, they aren’t decisive wins.
After a fight with a girl’s Vulpix, you crouch down to pet Pancham and tend to her burns. She didn’t seem to have an issue with battling at all, in fact, she’s basking in her victory. But hearing her cries when attacked was dreadful. It made you want to quit right then and there. “You’ll get a little extra curry tonight.” For some reason, your other Pokeballs shake upon hearing that.
When you rise and return Pancham to her Pokeball, you feel a strong hand on your back. “Good work, you’ll be battling me in no time!” You can see Leon’s eyes sparkle when he looks over his sunglasses at you. “I can now see what Milo was talking about, you care about your Pokemon above all other concerns. It’s hard to be that way during a fight though, during a Pokemon battle all you can think about is winning.”
You sigh a bit hearing that, and Leon soon directs you into the tall grass to find a fire Pokemon of your own. “You have a Vanillite, but it’s better to explore some more options before you settle on including her into your lineup.” It doesn’t take long to reconfirm that you are horrible at throwing Pokeballs, and you realize that you most likely only caught Yamper and Vanillite because they wanted to be caught, just with a bit of a fight first. The idea of forcing a Pokemon to join you twists your stomach. You attempt to talk to all the wild Pokemon Leon wanted you to catch but none responded very well.
“We’re really going to have to work on your throwing arm. Here, let me catch-”
“No.” You say with more force than you meant. “I don’t like doing it this way. My Pokemon picked me, and I want to keep it that way.”
Leon crosses his arms over his chest, cocking his head to the side and raising an eyebrow. “But how are you going to get the Pokemon you want? I admit I’m impressed that Pokemon seem to choose you willingly, and they want to fight for you. But you’re supposed to be doing the choosing, not them. You’re a Pokemon trainer now, have to get into a different mentality.”
Sonia and Milo have mostly been chatting between themselves while trailing behind you and Leon. They both give you a reassuring touch on the shoulder or elbow whenever he gets particularly tough in his instruction with you. It’s clear to you now why Leon is the champion, he can see the entire world from the perspective of a Pokemon battle. Every piece of information relates to how he can win or is discarded. On the other hand, you were interested in the story of each of your charges, wanting them to grow and live the lives they wanted to pursue. They chose you not because you were aiming to become the best, but rather some other adventure you had yet to fully define.
“I think you’re doin’ a great job.” You turn to Milo, who’s smiling. Thinking of him cheering you on sends some tingles throughout your body. “It’s nice to see someone go about being a trainer in a different way.”
“You’re just saying that because you want an easy win!” Leon smirks at Milo, slinging one arm around your tire shoulders. “Don’t listen to him, I’ll make it so you’re unbeatable for your adventure.” That unreadable expression returns to Milo’s face, and you watch his eyes lock onto where Leon’s hand is grasping your shoulder. “We’ll resume lessons soon, let’s take a break.” He gives you a quick squeeze and lets go to lead you forward.
It’s only now that you notice the sun was just starting to fall past its zenith. In a nearby clearing Sonia lays out a blanket and Milo tears apart some bread that he got at the cafe earlier this morning to pass around for a snack. You all are mostly quiet, probably for different reasons. You feel like there are maybe a pair of eyes or two on you, but you’re staring off into the distance as you mull over Leon’s attitude towards being a Pokemon trainer. However, it’s not long before the group notices a lingering smell of something unsavory. Sonia shoots a glare over to Leon while covering her lower face with her hand. “Ew Leon, was that you??”
“Sonia!” Leon practically screeched, turning a bright shade of red. “Why are you so quick to accuse me!?”
As they bicker, Milo leans towards you and points out into the distance past the route. There’s a factory with smoke drifting from it in the air, surrounded with carts full of what looks to be coal. “That’s a Marcos Cosmos energy plant over there, turnin’ ore into power.” You can tell Milo is trying to not breathe through his nose as he talks, and it takes you a bit of effort to not giggle at how cute he sounds. “Chairman Rose pretty much owns every method of generatin’ energy here in Galar. It probably smells because this is a crosswind point for the industrial district of Motostoke ‘n the factory.”
But the smell only gets stronger, and soon you hear some rustling in the nearby foliage. Sonia’s Yamper begins to bark as suddenly the source of the strong smell presents itself to you all: a Trubbish. Your friends instantly reel and move away from the Pokemon. “Let’s find somewhere else!” Sonia chokes through as she tries to grab her belongings.
You’re familiar with the Trubbish from Alola, where they gathered around cities. But you knew that most Trubbish only smell when they aren’t really in contact with people, as the stench is mostly a defense mechanism in the wild. On TV you remember multiple ad campaigns against Trubbish abuse, and that the Recycling Center harbored many that were put to work and happily coexisted with people. So your first reaction wasn’t to get up and run, but to tear your piece of bread in half and offer it to the Trubbish.
Leon calls your name. “What are you doing?? Let’s get out of here! Trubbish always leave sludge on your things and can attract other Trubbish miles away.”
“There’s a reason this Trubbish came to us. He’s hungry and must have been unable to find some food. Maybe the days before challenge season are the least traversed, so there are few people around littering.”
The Trubbish looks between your face and the bread a few times before waddling over to you. Even though the smell was no less than putrid, you did your best to smile and make it not seem like you were breathing through your mouth. “Go on, have some. And if you’d like, I can cook you some food later! What do you think about some sausage curry?”
You don’t need to see them to know your friends were gawking as the Trubbish takes the bread from you and the two of you eat your pieces together as a sign of friendliness. It was hard to notice at first, but as the breeze picks up you can tell Trubbish’s smell was beginning to disappear. Finishing the bread, he jingled happily, if the clanging of the trash items inside him could be considered jingling. Trubbish epitomized ugly-cute for you, but you didn’t want him to know that.
“All better for now?” You rise to your feet when he jumps and jingles some more. He kind of reminds you of your Vanillite, who you bring out of her Pokeball. “Something tells me you two will be friends, how about you keep each other company while we travel?”
It is clear Trubbish absolutely adores Vanillite, and you hope it’s not because he wants to eat her for looking like ice cream. But your Vanillite soon warms up, if still below freezing, pretty quickly when she notices the Trubbish doesn’t mind her cold temperatures. Once they start chattering you turn around, freezing when you see three pairs of eyes staring at you. Leon was straight-up slack jawed. “G-guys, what??”
Sonia is the first to speak up. “I’ve never seen someone speak to a Trubbish like that before… Brilliant! Had no idea their smell went away.”
Leon’s hand was pensively rubbing his chin as he looked at you and your Pokemon. “Not many people go through the trouble of taming a Trubbish. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve fought one as Champion.”
Milo isn’t quick to say anything, but he is positively beaming at you, to the point where you think his gaze would make you melt. You walk towards the others to start again down the route, and the two Pokemon jingle behind you. “It looks a bit like magic whenever I see ya talk to Pokemon.” He finally remarks, lightly touching his fingertips to your arm for a quick second. If you weren’t paying attention you wouldn’t have noticed the contact, but whenever his skin touches yours, you can feel the warmth radiate from his body.
“You’re not going to catch him?” Leon looks confused, only continuing to walk when you pass by him. “I thought that’s the reason why you did that?”
“Oh, I didn’t do that because I wanted to catch him. It just seemed like the right thing to do.” You give a slight shrug to Leon’s question. “If he gets along with our Pokemon well and seems to be having a fun time, I’ll offer him a Pokeball and he can decide. He is a Poison type, so that’s one I should get, right?” You can’t help but smile at Leon’s puzzled expression. “I at least owe him some cooking first!”
You encounter more battling school children down Route 3, probably because everyone can see Milo’s distinctive silhouette rather easily. Leon coaches you through battling with Vanillite as Trubbish and the others watch, but barking orders still doesn’t come naturally to you. During a battle with a girl’s Purrloin, you realize it’s not that you lack the confidence. Rather, you just don’t see your Pokemon as a means to an end for winning matches. Leon seems to be critiquing you less and more watching your style, how you trust Vanillite to react instinctively to the battle. It’s clear her ice attacks are getting stronger, and that she’s good at taunting and then countering with blasts of snow.
~*~*~*~
As the sun begins to near the horizon, Milo leads everyone up a hill to what looks like the highest point in Route 3. There are already other tents set up in the area, so the four of you get to work creating a little corner with the three tents between you all. The campsite quickly becomes a bit of a circus when everyone lets their Pokemon out: your five, Milo’s three, Sonia’s Yamper, Leon’s Charizard and Thwackey along with the wild Trubbish.
The two men go off to collect firewood, Sonia visits a nearby berry tree, and you begin to slice up some sausage. The Pokemon are cautious of Trubbish, but Vanillite seems to be acting as a liaison. Before you know it, they are romping and battling each other. Every once in a while one would scamper over to smell the sausage, but were satisfied with some pets and a promise that dinner would be ready soon. Milo’s Pokemon mostly hung around his tent and Charizard sat next to you watching the others. It begins to dawn on you that this is starting to feel familiar. You pause for a second, setting the knife down and just gazing out to where the Pokemon were playing. The Yampers were thick as thieves by now, chasing your Wooloo, Pancham, and now Leon’s Thwackey around. Lombre relaxed with Milo’s Pokemon while Vanillite and Trubbish seemed to be practicing techniques with each other. Charizard nuzzled your shoulder, an eye trained on the sausage as you pet him.
Milo and Leon were the first to return, looking to be in good spirits. It didn’t occur to you until now that they probably were friends, both being major figures in the League and all. They stacked the firewood and Leon got Charizard to light it up. But it wasn’t long that you noticed Leon was watching your Pokemon with a look of concern, arms crossed over his chest again.
“Is something wrong, Leon?”
He looks to you for a second before looking back at the playing Pokemon. “It might not be the best idea to let them battle unsupervised, especially when they are new to you and undisciplined. You’ll want to make sure they are developing the right habits.” You’re not entirely sure how to answer, because you know he’s probably right but you couldn’t think of anything more unpleasant. Leon turns back to you and crouches by the fire. “You’ve been working hard all day, how about I cook dinner and you take a break?”
You shake your head and notice Sonia returning with an armful of berries. “Let me do this, to make up for worrying you these past few days. It would mean a lot for me to cook for you.” You smile at Leon, and hear Milo busying himself with his Eldegoss who seem to be giving him a piece of their minds over something. “Plus, I promised Pancham and Trubbish some curry!”
Sonia hands you the berries she found and you sift through what she found. While she got you a good number, it seemed like there wasn’t a diverse selection on this route. Sausage is one of the better meats to react to sweetness, so you decide to base the roux of the curry on pecha berries with a few oran ones mixed in for balance.
When Leon and Sonia join the playing Pokemon, Milo comes to sit down next you. “Can I help with anythin’?”
You nod absent-mindedly as you compare berry sizes and count out how many you need. “Would you mind getting the rice going? That would be helpful! We’re also going to need to crush the oran berries and stir them right into the curry mix. The pecha berries will need a slight roasting over the fire, then we’ll crush half of them and put in the others whole. I’ll also brown the sausage over the fire before adding it in and then let everything cook. What do you think?”
When you look over to Milo, he’s smiling. Of course. And that funny feeling in your stomach takes over again. Of course. You really wish you knew what was happening to you. He doesn’t seem to be having as much of a messy internal monologue as you are. “Sounds amazin’! Were you a chef back ‘n Alola?”
You chuckle a bit as you sort the berries, Milo instinctively taking the ones to be mashed. “No not at all, I don’t know if I’m that good at cooking really.” You skewer slices of sausage and pecha on thinner sticks you find in the wood pile, preparing them for roasting.
“But you’re quite deliberate when you cook. Most people throw anythin’ in the pot and hope for the best.” You’re sure that Milo counts himself among most people, though he seems like the type that can eat anything and everything. He checks the temperature of the water in a smaller pot before adding the rice in, and you take that as a sign to pour the curry mix into the larger pot.
“I guess that’s true. Thinking on it, there’s just something special about making a good meal. Like, it’s one of the most satisfying things in life, eating good food that you made yourself, knowing others are happy because of something I did.” Milo pushes in the mashed berries into the curry while you prop up the skewers, lightly rotating them every once in a while over the fire. “Right now my mind is like, how can I make everyone happy with what I’ve got? I haven’t learned your preferences yet, but I feel like you’d enjoy this. And it would be really satisfying knowing that you did.”
Milo is quiet for a bit. You can’t tell if he’s thinking up a proper response or just taking in the moment. After you take down the skewers and toss the meat and remaining berries in, you begin to stir it all together. It smells how you imagine it, a savory-sweet smell which seems to waft over the camp since Pokemon are drawing nearer to the campfire. Sonia is back on her phone with her notebook in hand, and Leon is giving poor Thwackey a lecture. Curious noses sniff around the pot, but everyone can now read the look you give them to have some more patience.
“I can’t wait for you to see Turffield. I hope ya like it there.”
Milo’s voice was barely above a whisper, almost drowned out by the crackling fire and Pokemon chatter. You turn to him, a little taken back from his Eldegoss and Gossifleur staring at you expectantly. His face is in profile from your angle, shadows and light from the fire flickering across his cheek as he watches the curry bubble.
Before you respond, you feel mass of wool bump up against you. Wooloo immediately and consistently begins to bleat at you, crawling into your lap and staring at the pot of curry. You notice that all the other Pokemon have gathered around the campfire as well.
“Okay okay, it’s about done. You all should know that the longer it similar the more-” a range of Pokemon whines and protests erupt. How did you suddenly end up with so many children?
Leon takes the ladle before you can reach for it and begins to serve the curry over rice. With a smile he hands you the first bowl. “You earned it.” Soon enough the humans have their servings and the Pokemon gather around a few large bowls they share from.
The sounds of happy eating pleases you as the curry came out nicely. You’re glad that you decided to grill some of the ingredients to give the curry some texture and not get more sweet than savory. It could have done with more spice, you’ll have to make sure you gather some cheri or figy berries next time for when there aren’t any in nature.
“This is amazing!!” Leon regards you with his mouth full, with Sonia more politely covering her mouth as she nods beside him. “I didn’t know you could cook this well! Might be better than Sonia’s cooking.” Which then causes her to frown.
“I’ll remember that the next time you’re pawing at my tent door for breakfast.”
The two get into their usual back-and-forth, letting you shift your attention to Milo. He was shoveling his food down, probably needing seconds soon. “Did it come out alright?” Mouth full, he nods and chews at the same time.
As the night goes on, conversation inevitable gets back to the gym challenge. Though the two are friendly, you can’t help but sense some tension between Leon and Milo. It’s clear that Leon perceives Milo’s gym to not be much of a challenge, and expects you to only be in Turffield for a short while before heading to Hulbury. Apparently there’s a train station there and he can visit you from Hammerlocke easily when you get there. “I’m sure Sonia will want to hang out with Nessa for a while, too.”
That’s when you realize that, while not arrogant, Leon was quite used to getting his way and being the center of attention. He didn’t demand it really, but it seemed like he had this magnetism that drew people to him and he based his understanding of everything bending towards him. Leon never once asked for Milo’s input about his gym or your opinion on what you wanted your travel plans to be. It’s like he had this vision and just needed everyone to play their parts.
The Pokemon quickly tired out after eating and grouped up in different piles ready to sleep for the night. Social groups are definitely starting to form, though you don’t really see anything wrong with that. You’re happy that Vanillite, who usually wants to return to her Pokeball come bedtime, has found a cuddle buddy in Trubbish. Watching them makes you yawn, and it’s only now you realize how tired the day has made you.
“I think it’s time for you to turn in.” Leon rises from his spot next to Sonia and begins collecting the dishes. “If you’re going to make it to the other side of the mines before sunset, we’ll need to get up early in the morning.”
After another yawn, a hand reaches down from above; it’s Milo, with a soft smile on his face, the jade of his eyes almost glowing reflecting the fire. Always the gentleman. But when you take is hand, you can’t help but feel all those funny feelings again. You’re sensitive to the tactile nature of his hand, one that is calloused and used to manual labor, is firm in grip only just as much as it needs to be. It’s difficult to not notice his bicep flexing as he pulls you upwards. Upwards towards him, almost enough for you to bump into his chest. Thankfully it’s dark out and he probably can’t tell you’re flushed being this close to him. You realize he’s slow to let go of your hand, and he looks like he’s working up to say something to you.
Another’s hand grasps your shoulder and gives it a little squeeze. Leon’s. “Sleep in my tent tonight, okay?”
You’re caught off-guard by the request, but in an effort to not reveal how embarrassed you were feeling, you just nod. The cool night air brushes over your hand as Milo releases his hold and creates some space between the two of you. Leon goes to wash the dishes (with Charizard, or else he wouldn’t find his way back), Sonia lets the Yampers hop into her tent, and you’re alone with Milo. His eyes are downcast, and eventually he rubs the back of his neck as he turns away from you.
“We should get to sleepin’, huh?” The uncertainty in his voice intrigues you. His shoulders then square and he turns back to you, looking determined. “I guess I’m the first challenge in your adventure. I… won’t let ya go that easily.” Before you can respond, he nods to his Pokemon and heads into his tent. Maybe Milo won’t be as easy of a gym leader after all.
After putting out the fire and whispering good night to all the Pokemon, you take your bag and head inside Leon’s tent. Wooloo sneaks in after you, followed by Pancham and Thwackey. Looking around on the inside, you’re not really sure what you were expecting, it’s just a tent with usual camping things. You decide to unfurl your sleeping bag and change your clothes while Leon is still away. The three Pokemon settle in the middle of the tent, and you crawl into your sleeping bag.
When Leon returns, you hear the clanging of pots and dishes. Outside the tent he wishes Charizard a goodnight before entering. He grins seeing all the Pokemon resting next to you. “Now that’s a picture.” His Rotom zips out but he flails to catch it before it does anything. “No! I’ll be in so much trouble if that hits Pokegram.”
You raise an eyebrow. “What do you make off all that? I imagine you don’t take it seriously if you’re letting me sleep your tent.”
He scratches the back of his head. “Huh? I just want to talk battle strategies…”
As he launches into the typical moves that Gossifleur and Eldegoss use and their counters, you realize that he earnestly just wanted to talk Pokemon. And boy, can Leon talk about Pokemon battles. You feel a little guilty hogging him as a resource, wouldn’t Gloria and Hop benefit more from his guidance?
Milo’s parting words echo in your mind. The thought of battling him makes you uncomfortable, and it was like he drew that line between you two. It definitely sounded like he wasn’t going to make his battle with you easy. Thinking of Milo as an opponent just didn’t sit well with you.
You began to drift to sleep somewhere around the part where Leon mentions something about… Gigantics? Maxismist? Something like that, that future you can deal with as you think about a certain peach-haired man as you slip into your dreams.

Is Leon X Sonia a canon ship? I ship raileon but I'm kinda curious and I can't find answers
This is my first HC about them so I hope you’ll like it 🥰
Leon x Sonia HCs ❤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Here’s Sonia, I love when she cooks for me...” Leon always introduces his best friend like this. They went through so much more, and yet, he can’t help himself doing so. Sonia is THE best cook he happened to meet in his life and because he doesn’t know how to praise her, well...
Sonia and Leon made the challenger contest together. He was far more talented than her when it came to raising and battling... but when it came to really know the best pokémon ever, their strength, qualities and flaws... nobody beats her.
Leon and Sonia were compatible from childhood. He had this way to protect her and she was her favorite nurse. Every little wound, she was able to heal with a sweet smile and a magical kiss.
When Leon became the most young and famous galarian champion, she was the very first to greet him. Even before his mother and brother. She offered a pokémon egg, an Honedge, that will become one of his team partners, alongside Charizard.
He never said it out loud, but he admires her. Very much. He always thought the best of her, and not because she’s the most beautiful girl he ever met... because she’s natural, kind and uncompromising.
As for Sonia... a life without Leon wouldn’t be life at all. She always knew him, and accompanied him through so much, good and bad, that she couldn’t imagine an important event without talking about it with Leon, or without living it with him.
Like the Ying and the Yang, they battle much, they argue much, they love each other without condition and hide their personal feelings with some kind of brio only they could use.
Their first kiss ? Difficult. After an argument, of course. Charizard and Yamper were counting points, while eating some cookies Sonia baked earlier that day. Leon yelled “BUT I LOVE YOU, ISN’T THAT OBVIOUS DAMMIT !!” Silence. Big silence. Charizard and Yamper even stopped eating their cookies... but Sonia had the last word. She grabbed Leon’s cape and kissed him with all her soul.
Since then, every night they call when they can't see each other. Sonia accompanies him in every party and appointments with Chairman Rose.
Now, more than ever, they are what matters most in each other’s life.
Leon feels whole in her presence ; Sonia found a purpose in life in his arms.
They were meant to be together... only they couldn't see it clearer and earlier !
Bonus : Charizard and Yamper shared some of their cookies after the first kiss of Leon and Sonia...

Little Strawberry
Milo X Reader
Tumblr media
Hey guys, Kat here! I’m back after so long! I’m sorry about the long wait; I have been so tired from work and just got drained into doing any writing at all! But I’ve wanted to do a story for the past week now, so here we are!
My work friends and I were talking about the hotties in Pokemon; one picked Piers, and the other picked Leon, while I picked Milo! I can’t help myself; I love the big and cuddly boys, don’t judge me! I was interested in doing a smut story about him, so here I am!
I hope you enjoy it! Sorry for spelling and grammar! My dyslexic ass > v >”
Words: 3457
Warning: Sweet, teasing, grinding, fingering, riding, size kink, praising, swearing, creampie, gentle to rough sex, a soft boy with a big D!
Enjoy!
Milo; one of the best gym leaders and carries grass-type Pokemon to battle. He’s big, strong and fearless but also has a heart of gold and admired by his other gym leaders in the Galar region.
That same man was also your boyfriend.
How you met was a Riveting and even romantic story. Wild Thievul’s were hunting you across the field until Milo came in-between to shield you, helping you up when they ran off and guided you to his house in Turffield. His home was practically covered in flowers from top to bottom, even having a more extensive garden for himself and his pokemon. Milo introduced himself as he aided you, wrapping your ankle where one of the wild Pokemon bit you, letting you know you can rest in his house if you like. You were flattered but told him it was not necessary; you didn’t want to bother him already. He was a Gym leader, it must not be an easy job to do, but he was determined for you to know that you were no bother, even letting you borrow his bed to sleep.
After that, you would come by his house with gifts and treats as a thank you. It made Milo pleased to see you a lot more. But the more you started to see each other, the more you liked each other. Your face would heat up while Milo was a bit blundering and flustered when any contact or even flirting happened. His Wooloo got sick of the back and forth, so he bumped you into Milo so he could hold you. When that happened, he didn’t want to let you go, and you didn’t want to pull away, which made you both ending up kissing that sunny afternoon.
It’s been a few months in the relationship, and it was going swimmingly well! He was busy in the gym half the time, so you would go to applaud him on, always excited to watch him battle. Then after, you would go back to his house and treat yourselves with scones and tea.
God, you loved this big man so much. He made you feel protective and loved; it made your chest tighten. But for a flustered and kind man, he could do so much to you in the bedroom, that just thinking about it made your knees weak.
And did the large man have a large package?
Yes.
Yes, indeed, he did!
It was the second month until he took you to the bedroom, anxious and a bit insecure about what you would think. He was single this whole time because people couldn’t take him or just backed away instantly. But not you..! Of course, you were shocked at first, but you didn’t back down from his size. You had no idea how happy Milo was when you took him but got worried when you nearly passed out at the end.
And today was going to be the same.
“Milo..! You in?” You called out as you knocked on the wooden door, waiting for him to open the door as you felt your summer dress flow across your legs by the wind. You never wear dresses often, but the sun was out for once in Galar. You also know Milo gets blushing when you expose your skin and you notice him glancing at your legs once or twice.
The door finally opened; your boyfriend into full view with dirt covering his T-shirt. “My sweet strawberry..! I’m happy to see you!” He was about to hug you, but you placed a hand on his chest, pointing at the dirt covering him. “Oh, sorry. I was doing some gardening.” Milo said, rubbing the back of his neck.
“I’ll hug you when you change, so I’ll give you this.” You gave the larger man a sweet kiss on his lips, making him lean towards you but paused when you pulled away with a teasing smile, making him huff. Milo shut the door when you came in, going upstairs to change.
You always loved his home; It was covered with paintings of pokemon and flowers; one photo displaying him and the other gym leaders on top of his fireplace. Your eyes glanced at the smaller one next to it with a smile, seeing it was you, Milo and his Eldegoss. As you were looking over the photos, you felt two big arms going around your waist. “How is my sweet strawberry doing?” He asked with a giant smile on his face, snuggling into your neck.
You giggled when his peach coloured hair tickled your neck. “I’m fine...I got a surprise for you.” You said before pulling away to turn to him, Milo seeing the Pokeball between you both. “I got a Pokemon..!” You spoke with exhilaration in your voice.
“Congratulations!” Milo said brightly before hugging you again. “Come on, come on, show me your new friend..!” He said before backing away. You tossed your Pokeball into the air for the pokemon to come out, a small tail wagging when he came to display. “A Yamper? Heh, how am I not surprised?” He chuckled as he kneeled, letting him sniff his hand before stroking him. “You have been talking about getting one since I met you.”
“Well they’re so cute, and their evolved form is also adorable!” You chuckled as you watched your boyfriend. “I like him. I’m going to take care of him and train him up to be strong..!” You said with determination. "Just like my big boyfriend."
“Good! I’ll help in any way I can. I can be your trainer.” He grinned as he got up, opening his back door for the Pokemon to run outside. “Maybe that’ll get me more treats.”
“You get many treats anyway.” You snickered at his wide grin.
“Then where are they now? I don't see any treats.” He questioned you, his large hands on his hips as he tilted his head to the side.
“Hmm...Me?” You raised a brow, Milo’s face instantly flushed. You couldn’t hold back your giggle at his expression, seeing he was trying to find the right words. “I mean...I did wear this for you.” You said, playing with the ends of the fabric. “Do you like it?” You asked him as you walked over, placing a hand on his broad chest.
“Ur...Y-Yeah, of course, I do..!” The poor man shuttered out, his body stiff as a board when you touched him. Oh god, why does he get like this when you do the tiniest things!? You turned, so your back was touching his chest, your hips lightly pressed against him. “Don’t tease, love...You know I...”
“Hm?” You hummed innocently, your hips bucked against his, his knuckles turning white. Since Milo knew you could take him, he finds it harder to control himself around you. “Oh..!” You gasped, feeling the tent in his pants which poked between your ass cheeks. “Oh my...Is that your big Metapod using harden?” You purred out, hearing the larger man whine with desperation and embarrassment. You couldn’t help but tease him. You got over the flustered stage in your relationship, and he needs to as well. It wasn’t a bad thing, you loved him like this, but he needed a push once in a while.
“_-_____...” Milo muttered your name against your head, biting his bottom lip when you didn’t stop, his throbbing shaft resuming to rub against you when you moved. “Hah...Plea...” He grunted, at his final peak. But when you pulled up your dress to show your flowery underwear, that made him snap. “Love..!” You gasped when his large hands grasped your breasts, rubbing and pressing them together from behind as he practically humped you. “You need to stop teasing me.” He whined against your ear, his fingers gently rubbing and pinching your nipples over the dress, making you whimper by his touch. “Because...Then...I...I won’t stop.”
“M-Milo..!” You shuttered out, placing a hand on his. “I don’t want you to stop...I want you to L-Loosen up.” You rubbed up against him again, hearing Milo’s breath hitch.
You felt your dress loosen on your shoulders and chest; now the fabric pooled on the floor. “God, you’re so beautiful.” He sighs against your skin as he kisses along your shoulder, his hand palming your chest as the other slipped between your legs. “I am a lucky man to have you.” He groaned when his middle finger ran along your pussy lips, a small smile spread on his lips. “Did I excite you that much, love?” Milo asked against your neck.
“You always do.” You whined, before feeling his hands pull away. Milo leads you to his couch, sitting down first so you could sit across his lap. Milo slipped off your bra and underwear with ease, humming at the naked sight of you. He let you rest your head on his chest while he parted your legs, two fingers rubbing your pussy again. “Mmn...” You bit your lip as you held onto him, loving how gently he was, even at his size. “Milo...”
His middle finger slipped inside your folds, groaning as you soaked his finger already. “My little strawberry...I know you love this. My fingers are dancing inside you and getting you prepared for my size.” He hummed as he watched his finger slip in and out of you, making your face heat up by the lewd sounds when he thrust it inside. “Heh, no need to hide from me. I love watching you enjoy this.” Milo was the type of man that cared about your pleasure than his. Milo’s aching cock was begging for release from his shorts but held himself for you.
“M-Milo...Ah..!” You gasped when a second finger joined, now pumping and scissoring your tight pussy, which made you stir on his lap. “O-Oh, fuck...More. Give me more. I-I want your fingers to fuck me.” You weakly begged your boyfriend, his face going red again but did what you asked. His fingers increased in speed, your juices leaking out and dripped down to the couch and even staining his shorts.
“You’re doing such a good job...” Milo bit his lip as he continued to watch, knowing you want to close your legs, but he didn’t let you. He wanted to see every part of you, even the parts you got insecure about deep down. He loved you and your body, happy to know that each piece was his. Oh god, just the thought made him close to climaxing in his shorts. “Do you want more?” He asked, politely.
“Y-Yes, yes..! Please, Milo...Fuck me. Oh, please..! take me, Milo!” You begged, your hips bucking up into his hands. Milo got putty from your words. “Ah!” You cried out when his fingers curled, rubbing on the sensitive area which made you moan louder, your walls tightening around his fingers. “M-Milo, don’t-! I’ll-!” Your hands tightly gripped onto his shirt when he didn’t stop, his fingers soaked from your juices. “F-Fuck..! I’m coming-! Yes!” Before you could come, Milo paused. "H-Hey..!"
“Not yet.” He grinned when you stared at him. That evil man! He pulled his fingers out slowly, looking over his hand before giving them a lick. “W-Wow...You taste so good, _____. Maybe next time, I...I can eat you out?” He questioned, looking at you with a nervous smile.
“Hah...You’re so cute...” You returned the smile, placing a kiss on his lips which he happily returned. You fully sat on his lap, undoing his belt to his shorts and tugged them down with his boxers, having hearts in your eyes when you saw his cock slap against his stomach. Every time you saw him, it sent titillation through your body. Milo tossed his shirt aside when you got distracted, his hand, which was wet from your excitement, was slowly pumping his shaft to lube himself up.
“J-Just lower yourself onto me, okay? Take your time.” Milo shuttered out, his free hand gently caressing your hip. You nod as your hands rubbed his chest and abs, going down to trace his shaft which made him twitch against your touch. You loved his size. He couldn’t fit around your mouth nor hand; it was a challenge you couldn’t win. The only way to take it whole was your pussy, and even then, it could be a struggle sometimes.
You placed a hand on his shoulder while the other lined himself against your entrance, rubbing the hot tip along your slit before slipping it in. “Mmm...” You bit your lip as you started to lower yourself, your boyfriend was gripping your hips as you gulped up his shaft, inch by inch going in. “S-Shit...Oh, you’re stretching me.” You whimpered out, going teary-eyed by the pressure. "I love it."
“I-I do too but, please. Ah...Take your time.” He exhaled out as he watched you with concern on his face when he felt your thighs shake. Fuck it, going slow was dragging. You gripped his shoulders with both hands and slammed the many inches down inside you fast, crying out when his end nearly ripped your womb in half. “L-Love!?” He embraced your small body when you started to shake, feeling your nails digging into his broad shoulders. “I’ll pull out, okay? I’ll-”
“N-No..!” You shook your head, looking up at him with a weak smile. “Let me...Let me get used to it.” You breathed out. Milo swallowed the hard lump in his throat as his green eyes looked down at you before nodding his head hesitantly. You kissed him to calm his nerves, your hands relax before they ran through his colourful hair. “Mmm...You’re so sweet to me.”
“Of course, love. You’re my girlfriend, and my girlfriend deserves love and cuddles!” He smiled down at you, gently rubbing your hips. You felt him twitch and throb inside you, making your insides relax by the pleasure. “Please don’t do that again, I nearly had a heart attack.” He said softly.
“S-Sorry...But I’m fine. No need to worry.” Your hand ran along your lower stomach, feeling your face heat up. “F-Fuck...I’ve never felt you this deep.” You said, guiding his hand to your stomach so he could feel the bump which was his tip.
That got the poor boy red as he pulled his hand away. “D-Don’t let me touch it, it’s weird.” He whined, making you giggle at his reaction.
“Oh? Will it be weird that you’ll be filling me up with your cum at the end?” You raised a brow, never thought his face could get redder. “Hm...Didn’t think so-” You gasped when he twitched again, your man finding it oddly exciting by your obscene words. Once you felt confident to continue, your hand rested on his strong shoulders before you started to move your hips. You moaned every time you lowered yourself, again and again, feeling Milo’s thick shaft getting eaten up.
“Ah..._____.” He breathed out your name when you continued, his hands resting on your hips. God, the sight thrilled him. Your heated body was taking his cock, each moan sounding desperate and whiney. “Y-You love this...Don’t you?” He sighed, gently kissing your forehead. “I love it...You’re doing so well.” His lips went down to your neck, kissing and gently nibbling your skin. “I...I want to...Nnh-Pound you and...” Milo bit his lip, trying to hold himself together.
Should he say it?
“M-Milo..?” You breathed out, your hips moving on their own. You tilted his head up so he could see the sweet smile on your face. “N-No need to hold yourself back for me, M-Milo...Hah...Please. I know you care about my pleasures but, I-I care about yours too. So...Use me. Say anything to me...L-Let your dirty mind free.” You giggled. “I...I can take it, but if it does get too much, I’ll tell you to stop...O-Okay?” You muttered. You wanted your boyfriend to know that he didn’t have to be shy anymore.
Milo bit his lip as he looked over you, letting out a weak hum in his throat, his large hands gripping your hands. “My little strawberry, I...” He let out a low, frustrated groan which sent a shiver up your spine. “F-Forgive me.” He was on top now, pinning you on to the couch and lifting your legs into the air, crying out when he started to thrust. “O-Oh fu...Tight. Yes.” He moaned out, while his hips slapped against your ass with each thrust he made. Your hand was on top of his while the other gripped the couch to keep steady. It was like a rock Pokemon using pound again and again!
“M-Milo! It’s so De-Deep!” You cried out. You could hardly talk by the rough fucking he was giving you, tears running down your face since so many inches were pounding the fuck out of you, but you enjoyed it, you yearn for it. You could see his tip making a lump in your lower belly, blushing at the sight in front of you. Milo’s body was over you like an Alpha, taking what is his. “F-Fuck, fuck! It’s so good!” You cried as your hips bucked up. “I can’t think straight! M-My mind is-NNH! Fucked!!!”
“Love...Ah..! Take it..! damn, I-!” Milo groaned. He lowered a bit of his speed so he could pound you with harder thrusts, each one making you scream. “You’re M-Milking me, _____..!” He nearly pulled out all the way, his tip between your folds before thrusting in, Milo feeling your whole body spazz as you screamed. His eyes widen when he saw the state you were in already. “D...Did you just come?” He asked, his hands feeling your thighs shake. Heck, your whole body was shaking. “Should I stop?” He asked with a hint of worry.
“Hah...Ah...N...No, pl...” What were you even saying? Your mind was blank. “Com...Come I-Inside me...” You breathed out, looking up at the bigger man. “I-I want to feel your...Your hot cum spilling inside me. G-Get my belly nice and full.” You hummed; Milo’s face embarrassed once again.
“O-Okay...If you’re sure.” He breathed out. He started to move again, feeling your pussy was soft after your climax. He hears you whimper since you were still sensitive. “Nnh-” Milo grunted when he got into it, your whimpers fading into moans. As the long minutes went by, you were into it again, moaning and begging the man for another release.
Milo lifted you, your legs around his waist and hugging his neck as his hands were cupping your ass. He thrusts up into you, practically bouncing you on his throbbing cock. “Nnh! M-Milo! Please, please, J-Just come inside..!” You begged, your fingers gripping onto his hair once again.
Milo couldn’t hold it any longer. His balls were swelling, and his shaft felt like it was expanding inside your slick walls, his tip hot and near sensitive when it stroked against you. “Y-Yes, love...I’m close, so C-Close...!” He whined, his nails digging into your flesh as he fucked into you. “Get ready for my cum to fill you...Get you N-Nice and full..! Damn it, _____!” He let out a low groan and then bit into your shoulder, slamming you down on to his shaft as he came. “Mm!”
“M-MILO!” You screamed out as you came with him, seeing stars when his cum started filling you up. “Nnh-!” There was so much that it was already spilling out of you and dripping on his shaft. “S-So much...Fuck.” You breathed out, resting your head on his shoulder, feeling so light-headed. You might faint on him if he goes for another round.
He slumped on the couch with you on his lap, feeling his soft lips on your neck where he bit you. “Sorry...Did that hurt?” He asked, your replay being a small mumble. “Heh..” Milo smiled, slowly pulling out his cock, which made you whimper. When he did that, you felt more cum spilling out. “Damn...I did a number on you, huh?”
“Mmmhmm...Might sleep on you now.” You mumbled as you snuggled into his massive chest.
“Not now, my little strawberry. Let’s bathe and snuggle in bed; I’ll even make you coco.” Milo grinned down at you, seeming like he was back to his cute self.
You gave him a sweet kiss and smiled softly. “I love you...You know that?”
“...” Milo blushed. “I love you too. I wanted to say that for ages, but I didn’t know you would feel the same..!”
Such an adorable boyfriend.

(Based on the phanthop au created by the lovely @roseltheteacup and @alittlewriter ! Hope you dont mind me doing this, but your au made me sad so I had to write something. Now it’s 1 AM, so off to sleep I go!)
—-
Phantump, the stump Pokemon. According to old tales, these Pokémon are stumps possessed by the spirits of children who died while lost in the forest.
—-
He likes his new trainer.
Lee is kind, and gentle, and he smiles like everything will be alright, now that he’s here. Lee doesn’t mind holding his hand, or peeling the crusts off his sandwiches, buys him chocolate ice cream and cookies and when the skies are clear, brings him to see the stars.
(Back in the forest, it had been dark, so dark. What sunlight he had seen was the little streams of gold that would peek through the leaves on good days, and darkness so complete it frightened him every other day. He had wandered, not knowing what he was missing, what he needed to find, just that he needed to find something. He had memorized every blade of tall grass. He had climbed every tree. He learned how to hide, how to keep quiet, how to make himself small. He learned what was safe to eat and wasn’t, how to see in the dark. He learned how to survive in a forest that seemed intent on swallowing him alive, and he had to do it alone.)
With Lee, he’s never alone. His trainer is always always there, a presence larger than life and just a smile bright as the sun. Lee takes him everywhere, and tells jokes, and makes curry just the way he likes it whenever he wants, wherever they are.
(Colorful mushrooms lighting up hidden paths and rocky mountains with gravel underfoot and the smell of salt by the ocean and rolling meadows filled with Woolos and clouds drifting by a giant window fat and lazy and gem encrusted walls and warm water and and and-
And Lee. He’s there. He’s always always there.)
—-
The first time he sees Lee battle, it’s at the very top of a tower that reaches the clouds.
He doesn’t recognize the other trainer, but they look scary, with the determined looking scowl tugging on their lips and the sharp look in their eyes. A part of him wants to curl up and hide, find a crevice and make himself small, the way he did back in the forest when the bigger Pokemon went by. He doesn’t though. Lee is right there, and he wants to be brave.
The fight is short. The fight is brutal. He watches, agape, as Charizard grows large, larger than any tree he’d ever seen, any pokemon he’d ever meet. He watches as the battle ends in a flash of orange fire, the ends of his leaves warming up as it rushes by.
The battle ends. His awe does not end with it.
Later, they make camp next to Lake Outrage, and Lee has gone to gather some berries. It’s just him and the rest of the team. He gives the others a friendly wave before he floats over to where Lee has left his things, hunting for the red and white balls that he’s always seen trainers with. It isn’t hard to find one, buried under strange pictures and a folded cape. He lifts it and chortles with glee, the sound echoing a hundred times over as he tosses it up and catches it again.
(He remembers the way Lee had done it, powerful arcs and deliberate movements. He remembers how he had felt- like his breath had been stolen- like there’s a sharp ache somewhere inside him, a dull throbbing that won’t go away, heat and ice making his vision blur. It hurt, but in a good way, and he wants that. He’s sure he does.)
It’s hard to imitate his trainer, but he tries, heaves the ball up to his chest and starts to turn around. He gets dizzy soon enough, and does that mean it’s time to let go? He does, and stumbles in midair as the ball leaves his hands to curve upwards gracefully and land on the grass some distance away.
Next to it, Lee, who drops the berries and plates he’s been holding, who’s hands rise up to cover his eyes as the dishes shatter, a thousand little shards sent in all directions. He watches, paralyzed, as his trainer’s shoulders tremble, like they’re caught in their own internal earthquake.
He rushes over, dives into Lee’s chest and clings to his shirt. Lee doesn’t hesistate- his hands come down to cradle him against their chest, shaking, shaking, shaking. He feels something drip on his branches and makes a low crooning noise, a rumbling purr he’d seen Meowths do to comfort their trainers, until Lee’s hands aren’t trembling so much and his shoulders art still.
Lee exhales. It’s a shaky, hollow sound, like someone has torn out his soul, and he never wants them to sound like that again, never, never again. He swears that, even as the rest of the team comes close and Charizard’s wings spread to curl around them.
(Later on he tries to pick up the shards left on the grass, but Lee stops him with red rimmed eyes. “It’s fine.” They murmur as he watches sadly. “You’ll cut yourself; let me do it.)
—-
“Phan?” He asks, confused. Lee smiles at him, pats the air next to him. They’re in the town with budews sleeping in the gardens and a large house nearby, looming.
(He doesn’t like that house. The last time Lee had brought him there, he had felt small: he had felt afraid, and alone, like he was back in the woods and all he could see were shadows. He had run away, and Lee had tore open the countryside looking for him, until his voice cracked and his shouts became whispers. He came back eventually, and Lee had hugged him so fiercely as they begged him to never leave like that again. It took five days before Lee could speak without coughing up blood. Five days of worry and guilt, and the knowledge that his trainer cared enough to look for him, to push himself that far. He doesn’t know why, but he feels like no one’s ever done that for him before.)
“I have someone for you to meet.” Lee smiles. There’s no stumble to their voice. He floats over, confused, as they continue. “Look, here they come now.”
He looks at the direction Lee is pointing and sees a Dubwool, being led by a woman with a shock of orange hair and followed by a Yamper. He looks at Lee, even more confused, but then the Dubwool tackles him.
There’s a commotion and flurry of movement around him, but his vision is filled with white wool and bright eyes, gleaming. The Dubwool nuzzles him, mindful of their horns. It’s you. They say, their voice trailing off to a celebratory bleat. It’s you! You’re back! You finally came back!
He wants to ask who they’re talking about. He wants to ask if they’ve met. Instead, he says nothing at all, as he buries his face in their coarse wool and wonders why this all feels so familiar.
—-
He’s been with Lee for three months when another new face appears.
The trainer looks young, and he doesn’t know them but- he feels like he should, for some reason. They look at him with wide wet eyes and it feels familiar, the way the Pokemon Lee had introduced him to had all felt familiar, like the woman with orange hair had felt familiar. Like it was something he’s forgotten, something he’d witnessed once in a dream.
“...Hey.” They whisper cautiously, picking at the edge of their sleeves with their nails. They’re still watching him with those wide wide eyes, huge and terrified. “Is it really you? Hop?”
That’s his name. He knows that at least, had been there when Lee called him that for the first time. He gives a shrill giggle, and they smile. He thinks that it’s a good expression on them.
“I thought I would never see you again.” The trainer’s lips wobble, and they use their hand to rub at the corners of their eyes. “We didn’t even get to say goodbye, yknow? I didn’t even notice you were gone, not until Leon did.”
He doesn’t understand what they’re trying to say. But he notices the way they’ve begun to curl inwards, eyes on the ground as they struggled to breathe. He knows what that means.
(He doesn’t know this trainer, with their sad smiles and shaking voice, but he knows already that he cant stand to see them cry.)
He floats forward as their eyes begin to droop, the weight of their tears pulling the edges down.
“And I stole your dream even though I didn’t really want to be champion, and I never said anything to you, and I didn’t look for you, I didn’t try and find you-“ they suck in a noisy breath, ribs rattling. “I was so happy to be number one I forgot about you, even though you were always there when I needed you, and I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry-“
He noses his way into their arms, as their frame is wracked with heavy sobs that seem to take everything out of them. “I’m sorry-“ They croak, voice cracking, and repeat. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry- Hop, I’m sorry.“
He doesn’t know what they’re apologizing for, but he decides he’s forgiven them for it. He buries his face into the crook of their neck and listens to the apologies whistling out from between their teeth.
—-
He’s watching his trainer battle his rival and he feels something like pride, something a little more bittersweet- he watches them trade blows and something in him rings hollow, like a strike against an empty glass of water.
“I’ve never met a Phantump before.” The little girl next to him says. He cocks his head. “There’s never been any near Hammerlocke. And anyway, you’re the only one that has purple leaves.”
Was he? He bats at the purple foliage peeking out of his stump, wondering. Maybe that made him special. The girl watches him through the corner of her eyes.
“Though, we’ve met before, haven’t we? I asked your friend to deliver a letter for me. You were there too. You helped.” She smiles and smiles and keeps smiling, but she’s gone perfectly still.
He blinks in confusion.
“I never thanked you for that.”
She reaches out and pats him on the side of his head, and still confused, he lets her. “It’s not too late for you. You have got to remember.”
“Hey!” Lee calls from below. He turns to look at him: he’s flushed and grinning from victory, as his rival sighs over their rotom phone. “Come on, let’s go!”
He begins to follow his trainer, but not before sparing one more look behind him.
The little girl is not there.
—-
There’s a trainer waving a feathered stick around.
He floats over to investigate, the chiming of the bell alluring despite himself. The trainer chuckles as he bats at the toy, arms moving to and fro to attack it.
“I heard who you are.” The Trainer mutters as the toy begins to slow. Their eyes stay locked on him. “I heard it from the Champion. You’re Hop, aren’t you?”
That’s his name, so he nods. The trainer huffs out a brittle laugh, looking away and running a hand through his mess of unruly curls.
“...It was my fault.”
They don’t wait for him to understand. They barrel on, the words leaving them in a rush.
“You- you were ten. I was ten. Shit, we were stupid little kids, and I... I said that to you, and you disappeared, and I’m so fucking sorry for that. It was my fault.” They sigh. “What I did was unforgivable.”
He watches as they fiddle with the collar of their pink shirt, unable to meet his eyes. For some reason, he feels a stab of deja vu.
“Just... I’m glad you’re happy now, at least.”
—-
In the end, all it takes is a realization.
He’s sitting in Lee’s help and the thought strikes him how many friends he has now; how many memories shared. He’s sitting on Lee’s lap and all he feels is safe: all he feels is content.
(He thinks of the familiar Pokemon and the trainer with huge eyes and everyone else he had met, and he thinks of lonely days in a wood filled with fog and thinks that he is happy with what he has now.)
“I love you.” He hears Lee whisper as they poke at the fire, and he- he wants to respond.
(He’s warm and safe and happy, surrounded by companions, watching the stars twinkle overhead, and he’s never felt farther than his origins before: like the years he had spent in those woods never happened, like he never had to learn how to be small and safe. The darkness seems so far away, with the campfire spitting embers into the distance. He’s here, and he’s happy, and it feels like a dream come true.)
“Love you too Lee.” He whispers, actually whispers, with a voice that isn’t a chorus of screams, and-
-something in his soul slides right into place, and clicks.
(He isn’t lost anymore.)

hc : Gym Challenge Companions
Tumblr media
Being childhood friends, Leon and Sonia left for their challenge at the same times as friendly rivals. They didn’t travel together at first, just agreed to meet up frequently : get some meals together before / after their gym challenges and whatnot.
She met some other challengers in the times she traveled alone with her Pokémon. She met Nessa and Piers during these times, and some others who dropped out fairly early on that she never really saw again after. Still, traveling by herself left her with the freedom to make friends outside the twin headaches that were Leon and Raihan.
But there wasn’t much of a shortage of 「 HELP WHERE AM I 」texts that came accompanied with pictures of, say, a few trees, which often left Sonia and Yamper having to search all over for him ( at plenty times she looked haphazard by the time she found his camp, leaves and branches stuck in her hair, dirt everywhere while he looked just fine ). Enough was enough, and after the third gym Sonia decided that they’re just going to travel together. With how much he liked Sonia cooking? Leon had no problems with this whatsoever.
After they started to travel together, Leon’s presence would often overshadow hers. It wasn’t just her who saw how quickly Leon was adapting to all the things she taught him. Everyone saw his potential and crowded around him : even more due to his his friendly, easy going personality. Compared to that, her knowledge in Pokémon would often leave people finding her haughty and harder to talk to. Still, it wasn’t something he did on purpose, so even if it hurt at times, it wasn’t something she held against him. It’s just the way things were. ( Her grandmother always did tell her that sometimes she gave up on things too fast, but sometimes, things just don’t change no matter how much you want them to. )

Life as a Researcher
...
...
[The coldest recorded body temperature a person has ever survived is 56.7 degrees F (13.2 degrees C)]
...
...
You're on your way to Wedgehurst with a small group of five middle-aged ladies who have followed you to the train station and into the carriage. Gengar doesn't appear to particularly enjoy coming out during day nor does he like to be around crowds so he decides to stay hidden in your shadow.
You've become a Pied Piper of Hamelin of some sort as the women trail after you eagerly and you take up one entire row. You sit in the middle, flanked by two housewives and three standing in front of you. They are friendly enough but they fire questions about you, your profession and how you can help them.
You answer them to your best ability and the most they get out of you is that you're a qualified Researcher. You're not officially aligned with the police but you know the Chief Inspector, Chris Graves.
They ask you how you know him and you're reluctant to tell them everything so all you say is that you have crossed paths with Graves when you were back in Kalos and now he has transferred to Galar for his work and voila, you have a contact in the force who can help you should you ever get wrapped up in cases such as these.
Usually it's the other way round, though.
You have worked with the police before and although they're under the impression that you're kooky and your methods are unorthodox, Graves doesn't mind if you step in at any point though he occasionally warns you that there are fine lines not to be crossed.
You tell the women that three people have also disappeared near the Giant's Seat.
You didn't realise there were more until today.
If you didn't pass Wyndon police station, you wouldn't have known.
The total of missing people is now eight. The first missing person is a gym challenger called Maisy who has been missing for three months. The second is a gym challenger called James, missing for one month and the third is another male gym challenger. No bodies have been found.
When the train slowly chugs into Wedgehurst, you leave the station and plough down the path with the ladies following you, avoiding the Wooloos that litter the streets. The townsfolk, intimidated by your large group, automatically make way for you. You meander towards your house and once you're at the door, it's unlocked and you enter to see Sonia and Magnolia seated down in the kitchen, fixing breakfast for themselves.
Upon your return, Sonia and Magnolia rise from their chairs and Cutiefly and Polteageist are ecstatic to see you, zooming towards your direction. Cutiefly burrows itself into your hair and Polteageist hugs your head whilst Sonia envelopes you in a warm and tight embrace, followed by Magnolia. Every morning, they do this whenever you return home. You believe they are deathly afraid that one day, you will not return.
However, once they spot the crowd outside waiting to enter the establishment, the sight forces their jaws to drop.
Magnolia and Sonia are stunned to see their home suddenly filled with so many people so you quickly explain that they are your new clients and you ask Magnolia for permission, hoping she doesn't mind that you have brought so many random people to her home. She informs you she is fine with this as long as you keep the noise to a minimum and avoid using the fine china.
You promise and remove your coat, kick your boots off and carefully drop your bags and Leon poster on the ground.
And you are so tired that you could fall asleep right here and now because you've pulled an all-nighter but you need to hear the ladies out.
Magnolia leaves you to it and departs for the research lab so you are on your own. You guide the group to the conservatory where you hold most client meetings and let the ladies sit whilst you stand to write notes. You ask if anyone wants some tea and everyone lift their hands up. Polteageist turns away with his arms crossed, refusing to make tea for them. He doesn't like serving tea to strangers anyway.
Luckily for you, Sonia steps in to assist and comes waltzing in with a tray of cookies and hot beverages after a few minutes, with little Yamper balancing a small tray of his own over his head. The ladies coo and fawn over the puppy pokemon.
You're exhausted, eyelids drooping, but you fight hard to stay awake and listen to everyone's testimony, one by one. Normally you would've preferred a one to one session but group sessions work too.
You flip open your journal to take down notes, asking for the date of the disappearance, time, location and any other crucial information and detail no matter how small. You also ask them if the missing sons have been acting strange prior their disappearance but all the answers are no. They also tell you the missing Rotom phones have also mysteriously disappeared and the GPS doesn't show where they are.
Occasionally, the women lose track to discuss amongst themselves and so you have to snap them out of it and focus on providing accurate testimony.
Eventually, you finish after three or four hours and you're really struggling to stay awake.
Please bring my son back alive, that's what they say before they leave and you promise that you would find them alive.
Sonia escorts the women out and returns to the conservatory only to see that you have fallen asleep, sprawled over the sofa with your journal lying open on your lap. She smiles and grabs a blanket from the cupboard which she uses for occasions like these and drapes it over you. Yamper barks but she puts a finger to her lips and they quietly leave the conservatory.
Hours later, you wake up with a start only to discover that it is now nine o'clock.
Rubbing your eyes, you look around; the curtains of the conservatory are drawn and it's eerily silent. You sit up and the journal threatens to fall off your lap but you quickly grab it before it drops to the floor. Stretching, you peel the blanket off you, glance around the empty conservatory before you emit an impossibly loud groan. Cutiefly and Polteageist are in the room and when you get up, they head over to your side.
"Hey guys," you mutter groggily, as they look up at you before quickly nuzzling your cheeks affectionately. "Arceus, I'm so tired...I'm gonna take a shower..."
Suddenly, Gengar appears from your shadow and Cutie and Poltea both look alarmed at your new companion.
You quickly introduce your pokemon to Gengar and your pokemon curiously float over to inspect the shadow pokemon. Cutiefly leaves the sanctity of your hair after a few minutes of reassurance and circles Gengar for a while before returning to sit on your shoulder. Poltea inches closer to Gengar and it appears they are communicating. You watch as the two ghosts make brief exchange before Gengar looks at you with a sad expression.
You ask Polteageist if he has just told Gengar about Rosie and he nods and returns to your side, choosing to hug your head whilst Gengar looks at you sympathetically.
You tell Gengar that if he can help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated and that you would love to study him but you have a new case to work on so maybe another time.
Yawning, you slide off the couch, head for the stairs whilst the Pokemon stay downstairs and you enter the bathroom to shower, peeling off your clothes and dropping them into the laundry basket to be washed later. As you shower and wash your hair, you briefly think about Leon, thinking about his soulful eyes and long eyelashes, and you wonder what he may be doing right now. He must be training in the Wild Area somewhere. You didn't even check if you had received any messages from him.
When you're squeaky clean, you return to your room to get dressed and you see that Sonia has put your bag and all your Leon merchandise next to your bed; you pick the poster up and unfurl it.
Leon's grinning face appears and you let your eyes wander over his form with a smile and Gengar manifests from your shadow on the wall; he floats in the air and circles Leon's poster then points to him.
"Yeah, that's the guy who was with us back in your house. He's the Champion of Galar."
Gengar grins and points to you then at Leon once more, puts his hands where his hips should be and wiggles his hips back and forth, smacks his mouth, imitating and making kissing noises in the air.
"Oh, shush," you say with a smile, "It'll never happen. He's got plenty of girls pining after him anyway."
As you roll the poster properly and let it stand beside your desk, the sound of the bedroom door opening captures your attention and you throw a glance over your shoulder to see Sonia hopping into the room. "Hey, you're - Ah! What's a Gengar doing here?"
"Hey Sonnie," you say, "He's my new partner pokemon. He's from the haunted mansion and he wants to help me."
"Oh, that's lovely," Sonia replies with a smile, and you watch as they both greet each other briefly before Gengar drifts out of your window and towards the roof. Sonia moves to sit on the edge of her bed leisurely, crossing one leg over the other and casually gestures to your bag with the boxed Leon action figurine. "By the way, why did you buy so much Leon merchandise all of a sudden?"
"I met him last night, Sonnie."
Shocked, she sits up properly, leaning forwards in her seat, "You did? That's amazing! He was really keen to meet you but you were always asleep during the day. I'm so glad that you've finally met!"
You nod, mentally berating yourself that all this time, Leon was wanting to meet you but never got the chance.
"What do you think of him?"
You are too shy to tell her any further details such as Leon holding you and whatnot so your response is a mere half-hearted shrug, "He's really nice."
Sonia cheerfully twirls a strand of curly hair between her fingers, "We don't talk much since he became Champion and he's really busy nowadays, but before all that, he used to always come over to the house."
"Oh."
"Your haunted house client called earlier too. He said he'll pop by tomorrow at eight pm if that's okay."
"Yes, that's brilliant. Thanks, Sonnie."
"No problem! How did it go anyway?"
"It was fine," you reply, before you proceed to explain, bringing her up to speed about the events of the haunted house and the conclusion though you omit the details revolving you and Leon; you do not tell her that you stayed with Leon for the rest of the night and the majority of the morning.
You ask her how her day was but she says she helped Magnolia in the lab for the entire day. With a sigh, she wonders when her big break will be.
"And what's this new case you're working on?" she asks next. She's moved to sprawl over her bed on her stomach, looking at her phone.
"Missing people."
There is a brief silence and Sonia slowly puts down her phone, turning to you with an expression of worry. "Ah...I understand, are you sure about this one?"
"Yeah, I am. And I better get a move on. So little time, so much to do."
"Why don't you take a break for the time being?"
"Can't. I need to do this. The police are working on it but it wouldn't hurt if I try to help too."
She lets out a heavy sigh, shaking her head helplessly whilst you muster a weak smile at her and leave the bedroom. She tells you there is dinner left for you in the fridge.
Magnolia appears to be asleep as you tiptoe past her room. You haven't spent enough time talking to Magnolia because your schedules don't match. You're asleep during the day and she goes to sleep at nine, or on some random occasions, seven or eight if she's extremely tired. You both conveniently miss each other a lot.
You spot Yamper chewing on a poketoy near the stairs and as you pass him, you stroke his head and ears and he emits a cheerful bark.
Driven by hunger, you head into the kitchen, grab the leftovers from the fridge and heat them up in the microwave. It's leftover pie, veggies and mash and whilst it's cooking, you brew yourself a cup of Komala coffee for that extra oomph because you believe it'll be another long night. Once the food is ready, you sink into the sofa in the lounge with your late dinner and journal.
The food is piping hot so you balance the plate over the empty seat beside you and check your phone absent-mindedly, checking for any updates. Your blog's latest entry has been quite popular and you're relieved to see that positive comments has overtaken the troll comment left behind by the anonymous user.
However, you haven't received any texts from Leon since you replied to his message this morning.
Your face falls.
You were hoping you would've received at least one reply. Maybe a short message asking to see what else you were up to or maybe something as simple as a 'okay' would've sufficed. To make matters worse, your reply is marked as 'read'.
You try not to think too much about it. Instead, you think about your next plan of action.
Wracked with physical exhaustion, you've not had enough sleep nor have you had sufficient time to think or work out your next plan of action but you can't afford to sit around and do nothing. Peeling yourself off the sofa, you lay out your notes over the couch, picking up your plate of food and munching on some pie before you take a sip of your coffee.
Your Pokemon arrive to see what you're up to and everyone looks at your notes. Your messy handwriting, random arrows, prompt and other small blurbs circled in pen dominate the papers.
The coffee is working its magic in your system and you discover that the lounge isn't a suitable place to gather your thoughts and conduct research, so you quickly finish your meal and collect your notes together once more. You hastily rush to the door to put on your new coat and sink your feet into your worn boots.
Leaving the house with your pokemon, you balance your notes in your arms and you're still holding your mug of coffee for some reason which you didn't realise but no matter, you make your way to the Pokemon Research Lab as quickly as possible.
You fumble with your set of keys once you arrive and when you have unlocked it, you push it open with your back since your arms are full and head inside, pressing on the light-switch using your elbow.
The lights slowly flicker on one at a time, with one light in particular fluttering limply in the corner. The lab is closed at night but Magnolia has granted you permission to peruse it despite being after hours.
Outside, the sounds of raindrops battering the side of the building makes its presence known and you breathe a sigh of relief, knowing if you had left it a second later, you would've been caught in the rain.
You breeze past the seating area and the bookshelves whilst your pokemon linger near Magnolia's work desk which is chock full of documents and pokemon books. A small desk in the corner near the stairs is your destination and you put your coffee and notes down on the surface before you rearrange them in chronological order.
This is your workspace.
Although it's small, it serves it's purpose well and it's currently and unfortunately covered in a thin layer of dust since you hardly had time to carry out desk-based work most of the time.
Your whiteboard stands next to a large potted plant and you grab the handle, slowly easing it out. It is covered with plenty of sticky notes and random photos of ghost Pokemon and symbols. Gengar watches as you flip it to the other side to reveal a detailed map of the Wild Area stuck down with magnets.
It is accompanied with three photos, one of a young girl and two young boys underlined with 'Missing Person #1: Maisy', 'Missing Person #2: James' and 'Missing Person #3 Ed' and a brief outline of the circumstances of their disappearance in short bullet points.
Gengar, Cutiefly and Polteageist watch as you stand in front of the board and grab a black washable marker from the stationary tub, pulling off the lid.
It's time to start and the coffee is kicking in.
"Let's update our board," you say aloud, and you're awfully jittery so you grab your wooden paddleball from your cupboard that comes with a red ball on a string and begin whacking the ball repeatedly over the wood at the same time, "There are now a total of eight missing individuals. Let's start with the new missing folk."
You take the league card of a boy called 'Scottie' from your pile of notes and stick it on the space beside 'Ed', using a magnet to keep it pinned on the board.
"...Missing person four, Scottie: sixteen years old. Gym challenger. Last seen by a Watt Trader at night near the Giant's Seat...Watt Trader said the boy appeared to be running away from something. Mr Watt Trader assumed it was a wild pokemon and didn't come forward immediately. Missing for eight days."
You hastily scribble bullet points on the whiteboard.
"Missing person number five, Frank. Gym challenger, twenty one years old. Last seen wandering the Giant's Seat at night by a group of female travellers, asking to accompany them because he said he was being followed for the past few days. He didn't tell them who or what it was. Appeared to have seen something or someone behind the group and proceeded to run off. Has not been seen since and has been missing for five days."
You stick Frank's league card beside Scottie's.
"Missing person number six, Simon. Gym challenger, twenty years old. No witnesses, but a pokemon breeder found his intact backpack and the rest of his belongings at an empty campsite near the Giant's Seat."
Gengar, Cutie and Poltea watch as you stick Simon's card on the board next.
"Missing person number seven, Ben. Gym challenger, eighteen years old. Last seen camping on the outskirts of the Giant's Seat with his girlfriend. They fell asleep together in the tent. When his girlfriend woke up the next day, the tent was open and he was missing and he hasn't been seen since. His belongings were left intact. Missing for four days."
You're onto the recent victim now.
"Missing person eight. Owen. Gym challenger, twenty. An eyewitness saw him talking to a girl with blue hair in a white dress, possibly a friend or girlfriend. Missing for two days."
You finish sticking up the league cards and photos of the missing individuals. Using the notes provided, you also use red pins to stick on the map. You realise all the pins are scattered randomly around the Giant's Seat area. Once you are finished, you take a step backwards to inspect the whiteboard.
The whiteboard is running out of space.
"What's the connection?" you mutter as you begin pacing up and down with your paddleball. The pokemon watch you keenly as you grab your coffee, taking numerous sips, "Let's summarise briefly."
You turn to Cutiefly, Polteageist and Gengar and they stare at you expectantly.
"All victims are male except one. They're all gym challengers. They're between the ages sixteen to twenty one. Some of them appeared frightened. Some of them even left behind all their possessions. Their Rotom phones have not been found and their GPS location disappeared. They also disappeared at night."
You eventually decide that the way several victims disappeared sounds fishy.
"A guy goes missing from his campsite, leaving his belongings behind. A guy with his girlfriend goes missing from their camp during the night but leaves his stuff behind. And another victim was seen talking to a girl with blue hair in a white dress."
You tilt your head to the side and rub your temples again.
"What pokemon are known to reside in the Giant's Seat? Stufful, Bronzor, Lombre, Machoke, Machop, Nuzleaf...Wooper, Palpitoad, Snover, Snorunt, Munna, Duskull, Electrike, Ghastly, Natu, Mudbray, Growlithe, Vulpix. None of these pokemon should be capable of kidnapping humans or attacking humans, nor do they have any reason to."
You frown and grunt under your breath.
"I need to make a phonecall," you mutter, before you move to your desk, pull your seat out and plop yourself down.
You call Wyndon Police Department, asking for Chief Inspector Chris Graves. You get through after clearing some security measures and stating your identity and occupation. Luckily, Graves is still in the office. Though he's reluctant to give you too much information, you ask him about the testimony and everything checks out: the witnesses, the travellers, the girlfriend, the Watt Trader, the Pokemon breeder.
The only individual the police can't locate or identify is the girl in the white dress with blue hair. No-one has come forth with any information on this.
You also ask about the weather when the people went missing. So far, it's random...ranging from clear skies, rain, thunder and lightning. Then you ask about Maisy, the first missing victim, and what the weather was like when she went missing. It was a snowstorm, apparently.
You thank the Chief and hang up.
This new piece of information seems to have narrowed some things down.
Maisy went missing during a snowstorm and the rest of the victims since her disappearance have been male.
"Could it be...?" you murmur, shooting up in your seat and making a beeline for the board. The unknown girl is actually a big clue. You grab a red marker and circle 'Girl with Blue Hair and White Dress' before you yell, "Rotom!"
Summoned, your phone flies off the desk and into the air, grinning. "Yezzz?"
"Can you get Jace on the line?"
"Zzzure," Rotom replies, before he quickly changes to phone mode and you see he is dialling your friend for you until it gets picked up and the little screen of your phone shows Jace, presumably in his room and working at his desk, tampering on your radio with his Joltik helping him whilst an Eelektross and Heliolisk jump on his bed in the background.
He's wearing a pair of goggles with enlarged lens, blinking at you with magnified eyes, "Hi duckie, what's up?"
"Jace, can you pop over to the lab right now? Bring some of your thermals if you can."
He lifts his goggles up, letting them rest atop his messy hair, "Uh...why? What's going on?"
"It's for an investigation."
"...Oh, uh. Alright, sure, give me thirty minutes to get everything."
You're grateful Jace doesn't ask you too many questions and that he doesn't mind heading over to Wedgehurst at night but then again, he's used to your awkward requests and he's used to being called at random times during the night too.
"Thanks!" you reply, and Jace hangs up.
He arrives in twenty minutes; you wait for him on the plush sofa with your wooden paddleball, repeatedly whacking the ball against the wood until the door to the lab creaks open and you sit up in your seat.
"Geez...The weather is like a Thundurus..." mutters a disgruntled male’s voice.
You look up. "Jace?"
"Hi, chuck," he replies, grinning widely at you as you leap off the sofa to stand. Despite the umbrella, he's partially drenched, his damp blonde hair framing the sides of his face. His Joltik sits on his left shoulder, holding a large leaf over itself.
"Thanks for coming over," you say as he dumps the brolly into the bucket by the door and Joltik discards the leaf it was using as an umbrella.
He greets Poltea and Cutie as they hover over to greet him, giving them affectionate pats on the head whilst you greet Joltik. "No problem. And I got the clothes you wanted. What're you working on?" he asks, handing you a plastic bag which should contain the various thermals you had requested.
"I'm working on the missing person case."
"Can I have a look?"
"Sure." you say, and you both head to the whiteboard and stand side by side.
Jace scrutinises the board whilst you pull out a male's hooded sweater, a heavily insulated technical jacket, a pair of thermal socks and gloves. "So all these young lads are missing. They disappear at night, they're all gym challengers and no bodies have been found?"
"Yep."
"Well, whoever it is that is nabbing them, they like boys."
"That sounded extremely creepy but you're right, and I have a hunch."
"Let's hear it then."
"It's a Froslass."
"A Froslass?"
"Yeah. She's known to kidnap young men and use them as decorations."
"Fuckin' hell!" Jace cries out, "But she lives in snowy mountains, don't she? And she's not native to Galar."
"Yeah, but there's the occasional freak snowstorm in the Wild Area and check this out, the first known person who disappeared in the Giant's Seat is a female and she went missing during a snowstorm. Isn't it weird that no bodies have been found, even though it's been days... a month even? It's because she's kept them frozen in her lair somewhere in the Giant's Seat. It wasn't obvious until I found out there were new victims today and they're all male."
Jace shivers. "...Or maybe it's a serial killer or a crazy cannibalistic family who's kidnapping young men?"
"Or it could be a Froslass."
"Or it could be Macro Cosmos. Someone could be trying to sabotage the gym challenge," Jace says, "They're a powerful company but they can also be awfully dodgy, if you know what I mean. I heard matches are sometimes rigged so they can rake in more cash from the bookies."
"That's a good point but that's awfully risky and why would they want to do that anyway?"
Jace shrugs. "I dunno. You really think it's a Froslass?"
"Yeah."
"If it's a Froslass, why hasn't anyone seen or found one yet? I'm pretty sure someone would've seen one wandering around the Wild Area by now."
You gesture to the words 'Girl with Blue Hair and White Dress'. "Because she can appear under the guise of a young woman. A lost or hurt young woman, maybe. That's how she's been nabbing folk at night."
"What about their Pokemon?"
"She probably froze them too."
Jace makes a weak noise from the back of his throat before he glances at all the photos of the missing people. "Do you think they're dead?"
"...Froslass likes to freeze people and take them to her lair, so...if that didn't kill them on the spot, then Hypothermia will."
"Do you really have to work on this case?" he grimaces loudly and you nod, "I-I don't have a good feeling about this..."
"Even if it isn't Froslass, it doesn't make a difference to my plan."
"Which is what?"
"I'm going to the Giant's Seat. I'm going to pretend to be a boy and I'm going to be bait."
"That is a terrible plan."
"I didn't say it was going to be a good plan."
"Then I'll do it. I'll be the bait."
"There is no way in hell I'm gonna endanger you, Jace."
"I have Joltik to protect me. Isn't that right, little buddy?"
Joltik nods and trills loudly but you shake your head, "Jace, you're mad. What about your job?"
"I'm a Ball Guy for Pete's sake. Not much of a career nor is there much going on there anyway, and it's fine, as long as we finish by the end of the night and we come home before dawn, I'm good."
"Are you...are you serious?"
"Yeah."
"Jace, you are MENTAL!"
He chuckles weakly.
Remembering how Leon should be still in the Wild Area somewhere, you can't help but worry. "I told Leon to stay away from the Giant's Seat, but I'm really worried about him now."
Jace grins and pinches at your cheek. "Oh, does little duckie have a crush on Galar's unbeatable Champion?" he coos with a wide smile.
You swat his hand away. "N-no, I'm just really worried about him, that's all," you check your watch as Jace's grin merely widens. It's almost eleven. "Wherever he is, I hope he's safe and staying away from the Giant's Seat."
...
Meanwhile, somewhere in the Wild Area, Leon sneezes.
Someone must be talking about him, or thinking about him.
That's what his mum told him anyway. She is superstitious and traditional like the majority of people in Galar, and she worries about a lot of things. She's worried that Rose is working him to the bone, she's worried that he isn't eating enough or staying hydrated enough and she's always wanted him to come home more often than he does.
Leon has never had a girlfriend although the attention he receives from girls is simply astronomical and so are the amount of love letters that gets sent to their home on a daily basis. His mum hopes that he will meet a nice girl who he can bring home one day. She does not want her son to end up hurt and taken advantage of.
Leon chuckles, wondering how his mum will react if she finds out that he had in fact camped with a girl all night. No doubt, his mum would be dying to know who this girl is and who her parents are.
He doesn't disclose to his parents that he's already devised a sort of test to determine if a girl is 'the one' or not and it's to do with Charizard. Call him old-fashioned, but the girl must get along with his pokemon and Charizard doesn't let anyone except Leon and Hop ride his back.
Therefore, if Charizard lets a girl ride on his back, he will know she's a special one.
He recalls how you got on quite well with his pokemon and ponders to himself. You're the first girl he's come across in the Wild Area and to be frank, he can't quite get you out of his head.
You've intrigued him.
Earlier on in the day and he received your message and tried to respond but unfortunately he hasn't had any luck getting any reception in the new area he's moved to.
Instead, he focuses in skimming through your blog.
The main page shows a photo of yourself with Gengar and the brief outline you had written of the haunted mansion. It occurs to Leon that he didn't take a photo with you. Maybe next time, he thinks. Leon scrolls through and reads some of your other articles before he comes across the page with your testimonials.
One of the testimonials is from a young man called 'Jace', who wrote that you had helped him when he saw his poor Joltik levitating off the floor and being flung against the wall by an unseen force for three nights in a row. He didn't know who to go to so called the police but they treated him with skepticism and believed it was simply a trick of the eye which prompted Jace to seek further help.
"She was the only one who believed me," Jace wrote, "And yes, it was a ghost. My grandma's ghost who, bless her dearly departed soul, despised my bug pokemon before her untimely passing."
He also states that you are a great listener and demonstrated strong compassion.
Leon reads the other testimonials and finds himself smiling when he sees the positive feedback you have received from random people who have all said the same thing: you are a great listener, empathetic and most importantly, you believed them when no-one else would.
Another person has written: "She knows her shit, don't question her."
Moving on, Leon reads your 'About Me' page.
You're originally from Kalos. You have researched ghost pokemon for five years give or take. You have an innate gift for sensing evil, to see and hear what most cannot. With these, you aim to discover and learn more about the paranormal and supernatural phenomena which most people cannot explain. Ghost pokemon fascinate you because they are living proof that ghosts exist, and they appear to exist in two planes: the spirit world and the world of the living. They can also act as mediums or guides to the afterlife. This is what your research is all about.
Leon reads all this whilst eating his dinner. It's great reading material.
He's had a full day of training with Charizard and now they're camping again, making dinner to fill their hungry stomachs. He remembers that you had warned him not to go near the Giant's Seat so he hasn't wandered around too much but they've decided to camp for the night and he's not quite sure what this location is.
Charizard tastes the soup and decides there's not enough flavour so he nudges Leon's bag open and rifles through, sifting out a little packet of salt. Leon notices immediately and stops his friend.
"Wait, Charizard," Leon says, "This was a gift, remember?"
With the bag of salt in his claw, Charizard rolls his eyes and snorts. It's salt. Salt, for Pidove's sake. And it's the only salt they have. The soup would taste a bit better if they sprinkled a teeny tiny pinch of salt, but Leon takes the packet of salt out his claws and returns it to the bag.
"Let's use some Chesto berries," Leon replies, grabbing some of the little blue berries out instead and Charizard snorts in disagreement since Chesto berries are more likely to make the soup taste blander.
He's about to toss them in when he hears a rather faint and fragile wail of "Help!".
And he promptly looks up.
"What was that?"
Charizard looks up from his bowl. He didn't hear it.
"Help!" the voice cries again.
It sounds quite close.
Leon gets up to stand, placing his bowl down on the ground. "Did you hear that, Charizard? Someone's in trouble!" the Champion immediately leaves camp, attempting to locate the source.
Charizard bumbles after him, not entirely keen in leaving behind the nice and warm, toasty campfire he created.
Leon returns onto the path, trying to pinpoint where the pleas are coming from and he completely passes the faded wooden sign that says 'Giant's Seat: 5 mins' without realising. Charizard follows his friend, using his tail to act as a light and they head closer and closer towards the source of the voice. Leon shivers slightly, realising the temperature has rapidly dropped all of a sudden and the cries for help has dissolved into mournful, female sobbing.
However, up ahead on the path lies a girl with blue hair in a white dress, her bare legs covered in dirt and blood. She also has no shoes.
Leon arrives first and steps forwards; she looks up at him with her light blue, crystal-like eyes. He drops by her side on one knee, throwing a glance to her leg. "Miss, are you okay?"
"Help me, please. I'm cold and alone."
"Can you stand?"
"Help me, please. I'm cold and alone."
Maybe she is traumatised. Leon loops her arm around his shoulder and immediately notices that she is icy to touch. The frigidness of this girl's hand could be mistaken for a corpse. As he hesitates, the girl looks at him curiously before she places her cold hand on his cheek, pulling him closer to her face.
Leon grows uncomfortable at once as she appears to scan his features, "Um...excuse me, miss, what are you-"
Charizard arrives and the girl turns, appearing to have been caught by surprise. Her eyes widen in a split second before she lets out a hysterical shriek, pushes Leon away and sprays him with a gust of icy wind from her mouth. From her hands, a glowing ball of light materialises from thin-air which she flings towards Charizard's direction.
The flame pokemon is unable to avoid and becomes disoriented immediately, having caught the attack head-first.
His vision is swimming and he's seeing spots. Confused, he roars, turning left and right blindly. His brain has decided not to function properly. He hears Leon yelling for him. The sounds of a girl screaming assaults his ears. He doesn't know what to do.
"Charizard, use flamethrower!"
Flamethrower? Okay.
Charizard unleashes a huge barrage of flames towards a dark figure in front of him which he assumes is his target.
Much to his surprise, Charizard yelps when he feels his own flames lashing at his body. Being a fire-type, it doesn't bother him but he has hurt himself in his confusion.
Charizard looks left and right again but where is Leon? Where is his best friend? As the world spins senselessly around him, Charizard flaps his wings and attempts to fly into the air before he abruptly crashes into a tree trunk. He topples over and lands on his back, roaring wildly and his vision and mind gradually clears up, the effect of the Confuse Ray finally wearing off.
Charizard sits up, clutching his aching, pounding head. How long was he confused?
It's still night-time.
He is alone.
Charizard growls and huffs, glancing around the empty woods but he is alone; Leon is nowhere to be seen. He cannot see hair nor hide of his friend anywhere.
What about the girl?
What was she?
A ghost?
He tries his hardest to suss out where Leon may have disappeared off to but to his dismay, he cannot find any footprints, cannot pick up his scent, nothing. He returns to camp but Leon is not present either.
Emitting a bellow of despair, Charizard takes off to the skies as fast as he can. He leaves the Wild Area, remembering the exact spot where the incidence occurred and heads for the closest town which is Wedgehurst. It lies straight up ahead. Maybe he should've gone to find Chairman Rose or maybe even Raihan, but you're actually the first person he thought of and so he perseveres in his journey, hoping it's the right thing to do.
Landing in front of Magnolia's house with a loud 'thump', he marches up and pounds on the door with his curled claw. Charizard is relieved when you open the door; you're the only person who's awake at this hour anyway. Sonia and Magnolia are fast asleep.
"Charizard?" you utter in surprise.
He nods his head and snorts and huffs loudly, hoping you can understand him.
You glance around curiously then say, "Where's Leon?"
The pokemon growls loudly with anger and frustration at himself before he lowers his head with shame and guilt, because he has lost his friend. His eyes begin to grow wet because he is worried and ashamed.
You know something is wrong immediately. "It's alright, calm down. Let's go find him, okay?" you step towards him and pat him on the head affectionately as Charizard continues to bellow with grief and hide his head under his claws, "It's okay."
Charizard whines and looks at you, then nudges his head further under your palm. You rub his leathery horns and give him a gentle rub behind his ears.
"What's wrong?" says a new voice, and Charizard sees a young man with blonde hair appearing behind you.
"Jace, this is Leon's Charizard. Something must've happened to Leon," you reply, before you quickly rush inside the house and re-emerge dressed in the warm, insulted coat, hoodie and gloves, "Let's go, Charizard. Where did you lose Leon? Can you take me there?"
Charizard nods vigorously and bites on your sleeve as you pull your bag over your shoulder, tugging you forwards impatiently, inviting you to climb onto his back.
"I'll go too!" Jace yells, but the moment you climb onto Charizard's awaiting back and he immediately soars into the sky. Jace is left on his own. "...Oh. Maybe not then."
