Elon's new blue-check subscription service was a massive flop, and the sudden removal of nearly half a million blue-checks suddenly made it crystal clear to Twitter's user base that the blue-check club going forward was going to be populated almost entirely by right-wing weirdos. There would be no hanging out with Stephen King or LeBron James; your fellow blue-checks would instead be a few notorious racists and jokes from (checks notes) influential wag "catturd." In fact, by so clearly labeling the worst of Twitter’s worst people, it spurred a genius #BlockTheBlue backlash, in which people gleefully banned the blue-check trolls that now populated the top of every single prominent Twitter thread (like those of actual celebrities announcing their refusal to pay for what was now a worthless mark). The visible unpopularity of the program wasn't just embarrassing for Musk. It's an existential threat to the program’s viability. Musk sold the subscription service as a way to become one of the site's Important People without merit; if all the Important People didn’t just stay off the program, but mocked it, only the most diehard of Musk loyalists would be eager to sign up for that. As the collapse of the program became self-evident, third parties had already begun working on automated #BlockTheBlue plugins that would systematically block all checkmarks. So Musk immediately set out to salvage the reputation and very existence of the $8 club—by forcing Important People to be in it whether they liked it or not. And by "immediately," we mean "by afternoon."
Elon Musk's Twitter Blue is a verified disaster
I was one of Twitter’s early adopters. I was one of those accounts they suggested you follow when it started to get big. I went from a few thousand followers to a hundred thousand in a matter of days, and was at 3 million when I closed my account.
I left Twitter long before Musk took over, but I kept the account to protect it and the branding it comes with from bad people.
Last year, before Musk bought it, I posted a couple of tweets to let those three million accounts know that my memoir had been published. It seemed silly not to. I turned replies off, and just let it be an announcement.
Then Musk took over, and I watched Twitter turn into 4Chan. When it started to become 8Chan, I deleted my entire archive, unfollowed everyone except family, and then made my account private. I figure I still need to protect the username.
I don’t look at my account, but someone told me the check was gone. (Oh, I was one of the earliest verified users, too). I was thrilled. I didn’t want anyone to think I gave that bozo my money.
Then the same person told me the check was back, shortly after I think all decent people had concluded that blue check = red flag (or red hat). So I signed back into my account and updated my bio to make sure nobody ever thinks I gave that dumbass any of my money.
I know I’m not alone. That check mark is now toxic, and I’m not the only longtime verified user who doesn’t want anything to do with it. I wonder if someone more famous than me, with more at stake, makes noise about the implied endorsement  / affiliation the blue check now carries with it, and the brand damage that comes with it?

isn't the piece where glip beheads marl and eevee done because they both cheated on them with exty? I have to wonder if eevee knew about the stuff from Apollo around then. obviously there's no way to know for sure, but that specific connection has lingered in my head for a while after exty mentioned marl showing the beastiality videos. like, what's the timeline?
The timeline can be gathered well from this old post of Glips reflecting on the cheating that was posted in either January 2014 or December 2013. Glips retelling here also helps.
I am going to make this a general time line of Glip's (And other Floraverse community leaders like Eevee) informed complicity in Marl's sex crimes against animals and children.
Sometime before 2013 - Marl convinced Glip they where low on money if Glip would have sex with a dog on camera for him to distribute. Glip agreed to do this. Marl would also get Glip to have sex with a second dog at a different unknown time under unknown circumstances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
November 8th - 10th 2013 - Glip goes to Australia for Supanova Brisbane. They are ran booth 186, labeled as Papaya Arts. Exty and Marl have sex while Glip is in Australia. Marl had Exty watch stuff with the family dog, Apollo, at the time. This was not the first time Marl had an affair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
November 25th, 2013 - Glip uploads a phone wallpaper of Alice (Glip), Lexy (Eevee), Callahan (Marl) and Exty's OC. Indicating that Glip is not aware of the affair that happened between Exty and Marl.
Tumblr media
Sometime between November 25th to December 3rd 2013 - Exty or Marl (Glip flip flops between who told them) informs Glip of the affair. Marl asks for permission to sleep with Exty even though the affair already occurred.
Tumblr media
Glip, during the confrontation, supposedly makes an ultimatum. If Marl did anything with dogs again, they would divorce him. ( This does not happen when Glip later learns Marl did stuff with dogs again in a year. )
Tumblr media
Right after this confrontation, Eevee, apparently tried to have sex with Exty immediately after Glip left the room upset. (Girl. What.)
Tumblr media
December 3rd, 2013 - Glip uploads "Let's Play - Lovely Kitten Surgeon" to deviantart. Showing Alice (Glip) decapitating Callahan (Marl) and Lexy (Eevee) to vent about the entire affair. This shows that Glip is now aware that Marl was abusing Apollo.
Tumblr media
March, 2014 - Marl starts to DM a 13 year old girl named Lain / SpaggleDagger photos of dog genitalia. He wasted no time after getting that ultimatum.
Tumblr media
October 7th, 2014 - Pengo puts out his massive call out post on Glip / Marl. The only thing that's important here is the fact Marl's zoo interest came out at this time, but Pengo made an effort to keep it on the down low under threat of retaliation.
October 18th, 2014 - Lain, a 14 year old girl at the time, posts to tumblr about how Marl privately messaged her sexually explicit content on Eevee's IRC in March of that year. Including how Marl admitted to enjoying beastiality, how he watched a woman fuck a dog, how Marl sent her photos of dog balls, and how Marl wants to have sex with this 13 year old girl in a hotel room described in vivid detail. This post generally got ignored due to the Pengo Call out.
Tumblr media
August 10th, 2015 - Lain makes a second post about what Marl did to her. In this post Lain goes into more detail about the specifics of what Marl has told her, and describes the typically camera shy Marl accurately. Including mentioning his acne scars.
Tumblr media
August 11th, 2015 - Glip, ignoring the fact their ultimatum to Marl was violated, makes a twitter thread complaining about a call out post from a child who "they have logs where she admits to sending nudes to someone and wanted to get them arrested for child porn"
Tumblr media
Eevee would also write a post platforming the words of other adults who sexually abused Lain and further slandering her that would be posted on Glips blog about this. Despite Eevee being the admin of the IRC the interactions occurred on, Eevee would, curiously, not share the DM's between Lain and Marl. (Glip. You said you would divorce Marl if he did anything with dogs again. Why are you attacking a 15 year old.)
Marl would also make a post about this, claiming Lain, the 15 year old child, was harassing him.
August 15th, 2015 - Glip would again, make another post slandering the 15 year old child by platforming other abusers of hers and would use logs of Lain realizing she was sexually abused and wondering what to do about it as """""proof""""" that this child is a seductress looking to entrap men in a child porn charge.
Tumblr media
April 5th, 2018 - Lain would leak direct messages between Big Fluff and Marl that showed Marl doing the same exact thing to Big Fluff when she was 16. They also, notably, involve Marl trying to produce Zoophilic Child porn of Big Fluff with intent to distribute.
Tumblr media
April 6th, 2018 - Someone would post the Big Fluff / Marl logs in the Floraverse discord server. Gabby, a current-day-Floraverse-Moderator would approach the user to talk about them, and would act as a telephone between the user and Marl.
Marl would admit that these logs where he tried to convince a 16 year old to commit beastiality on camera for him to distribute were real to Gabby.
Tumblr media
Gabby, the-current-day-floraverse-moderator would, also on behalf of Marl, ask the user to take a bribe, not realizing that these logs were already public.
When the user said no, Marl - with Gabby's assistance, would immediately change his story from "I know who this is, and I'm sorry" to "this is soooooooooo totally fake."
Tumblr media
Glip would then claim to leave the internet because of "lies and bullshit".
Tumblr media
April 7th, 2018 - Eevee claims the logs are edited. But, for some reason, does not have the "original unedited logs". She also tells the victims of Marl that she'll see them in hell.
Tumblr media
May 7th, 2018 - It is discovered that Eevee / Marl and Glip are selling their home.
June 18th, 2018 - Eevee gets her name legally changed.
June 21st, 2018 - Glip gets their name legally changed.
July 22nd, 2018 - Glip FINALLY announces that they are divorcing Marl. Following up on their ultimatum against Marl, four years after Lain revealed that Marl violated that ultimatum!
Great. So, by this point, Glip divorced Marl. Additionally, Marl has admitted that chat logs of him trying to convince a 16 year old to produce zoo porn are real. There's no reason to continue this post, surely Glip won't continue to torment his other victims and cover for him by calling them liars, right?
July 23rd, 2018 - Glip posts a letter claiming that it was written by Marl. In this letter, the author insists that Glip never had any idea that Marl was into zoo. This is despite the fact Marl supposedly made Glip rape two separate dogs, and despite the fact Glip was aware that their pet dog Apollo was abused by Marl for years at this point. The author also insists that the logs between Big Fluff and Marl are edited, despite being unable to provide the "authentic" logs.
Tumblr media
July 24th, 2018 - Marl gets his name legally changed.
August 2nd, 2018 - Glip mocks people who are suspicious of them not believing Lain, and continues to call her a 'fucking liar', and also how they're Marl's biggest victim and that that they have the chat logs (This is true.) but "nothing was there" (This is impossible to be true. They are continuing to lie to cover for Marl and themselves for their failure to act earlier.)
Tumblr media
September 27th, 2018 - Glip would attempt to coordinate serious retaliation against Lain, who started to speak up about Marls abuse of her again.
Tumblr media
Glip also created a twitter thread about Lain, platforming the testimonies from other men like Marl who sexually abused her, and calling her a "fucking parasite".
Tumblr media
This is despite the fact it is know a known fact that Marl is a pedophile and a zoophile, and that Lain was one of the first victims of him to speak out.
February 27th, 2019 - Glip makes another twitter thread about Lain. Calling her a serial liar and how that traumatized them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
June 14th, 2019 - Glip claims that they thought Marl only had a fetish and that he was not acting on. This is despite the fact Glip was informed of the creation of sexual abuse footage of their pet dog in 2013.
Tumblr media
June 30th, 2020 - Glip finally posts an apology document to both Lain and Big Fluff. They also post a document about how Marl abused them.
It is notable that, in the 41 page apology document to Lain and Big Fluff, Glip doesn't mention how both them and Eevee claimed earlier that they had no chat logs of Marl sexually abusing Lain.
The document of Glip recounting their abuse at the hands of Marl is threads through their life history as a way to prove how ill and abused they were is all accumulating to the ultimate implied conclusion that Glip couldn’t possibly have been at fault for what they did to these kids because they were being abused when they did it.
Glip was abused, and they had made horrible choices of their own volition throughout this. Both of these are true at the same time.
You think Glip is done slandering these now young adults because they apologized?
March 28th, 2023 - Glip goes on a rant in their discord server about how hurt they where by Big Fluff remembering how Glip exposed their naked body to the then child accidentally while Marl was grooming them.
Tumblr media
September 27th, 2023 - When called out on their treatment towards Lain while knowing Marl was a zoophile, Glip bites back about how there needs to be a focus on how THEY WHERE HURT BY THE THEN CHILD. HOW THERE NEEDS TO BE A DISCUSSION ABOUT HOW THEYRE A VICTIM OF THE SAME CHILD THEY SLANDERED FOR YEARS.
Tumblr media
There is no way to neatly tie up this post in a bow. Glip was aware that Marl was sexually abusing people, and even their family dog and lied and protected him at every chance they had until they couldn't anymore. When the opportunity arose, pillar members of the Floraverse community like Gabby decided to knowingly protect the pedophile. When Eevee was sitting on evidence of her roommate being a pedophile, she decided to lie about it, protect the pedophile, and slander the child. Glip to this day insists that they where, some sort of victim of these two children who where sexually abused by Marl, these two children that Glip themselves abused by using their platform to slander and gaslight them for years.
These people are terrible. Floraverse is terrible. They always have been, and they always will be.

forgive me if youve talked about this before, but you seem fairly positive and excited about the new rings of power show. on the one hand im really excited - it sounds cool and gorgeous and im really really excited for more legit dwarven content. but on the other, i really dont wanna support the show given whos making it and what it means for amazon. how do u reconcile those? (i REALLY hope this doesnt come off as attacking or rude i am really bad at tone in text, i just respect your opinions and stuff a lot and im curious)
No worries! Honestly I've gone on a whole journey about RoP and I've settled into relatively calm anticipation only recently. But yeah so... well my answer is two fold. Firstly I do not see the good people not seeing this show would do. At this stage I do not lean heavily into boycotts unless there is an organised movement behind it that has a specific goal in mind, whether that be worker's rights, environmental safeguards etc. For a long time I have been avoiding buying anything from Amazon, but that is because I put effort into buying locally whenever I can. Boycotting RoP has no similar purpose and I do not see the benefit in me not talking about it. Unless people are thinking that by driving everyone away from this show they'd tank Amazon prime entirely? That actually doesn't sound beneficial or feasible to me.
My second issue is whilst I don't see the benefit, I do see the harm. I'm not sure how much you've been involved in the storm around this show, but if you even dip your toe into the youtube algorithm surrounding RoP you will find an absolute cesspit of white supremacists doing everything they can to make the show flop because it has black actors in it. And it has gotten to the point where I will post something even mildly RoP positive on twitter, receive a flush of racist troll accounts throwing out as many vague 'destroying tolkien's vision he's rolling in his grave' type statements as they can, only to then get a second wave of people agreeing with them because THEY interpret it all as anticapitalist instead of racism. Remember when everyone was laughing about people copy pasting that fake tolkien quote into the comments of the first teaser trailer? Something something evil cannot create it can only corrupt something something? A lot of people against the show because Amazon (but also because it wasn't canon in their eyes) really found that funny, but that was a racist effort with nearly entirely racist motives! I cannot over emphasise how massive the specifically racist resistance to the show is right now. They're planning a whole suppression campaign on 4chan for the first episode releases.
So at this point I am just not comfortable engaging in my own personal non-specific boycott of RoP in the name of attempting to harm Amazon somehow, but therefore tacitly supporting the white supremacist's greatest desire; that RoP can flop so they can blame it on the black actors being in Tolkien where they 'aren't supposed to be'

The two Psycho Analysis reviews are coming along (Kaiba’s is a little daunting with all I have to cover), so let’s set up the next IIRTB to be interesting… but there’s a twist! There’s going to be TWO polls! There will only be half the choices on each but I’m putting some juicy choices on each!
For the first poll, which of these superhero movies should I take a look at?
1. Dwayne Johnson was going to change the hierarchy of power in the DCU with this… it didn’t really end up working out that way.
2. The first Captain Marvel film to flop in 2023, and the one that made Zachary Levi cry on Twitter.
3. The second Captain Marvel to flop in 2023, and the film that really had people wondering if the MCU was salvageable.
4. On the surface, this just seems like another poorly reviewed DC movie… but there’s a nightmarish production story that casts a dark shadow over this.
5. The first try at adapting the Dark Phoenix, stuffed with plots and directed by a massive dickhead.
6. Andrew Garfield’s first outing as Spider-Man, which has been getting post-NWH reassessment.., but does it deserve it?

I feel like, considering that this Sunday the last episode of The Idol is going to air, there needs to be one last dumb consideration post about it. Anyways, I think the show was an absolute flop, one even worse than what we're seeing, and the biggest indicator of lack of success can be seen in the lack of fandom interest that formed around it.
On both TikTok and Twitter it's all jokes about how crappy the show is. Literally no one has liked it and they're all clowning on it.
On Reddit, the show was discussed by r/euphoria and r/the weeknd, and the former aren't liking it while the latter are Tesfaye's fanboys cheering for his "sick burns" and for how "unbothered he is" after Tesfaye spent four hours on Twitter searching for his name and responding "no, u" to anybody saying anything negative about him/his acting/his character. Not even the most loyal of fans are able to actually compliment the series, so they go on and on about how it's disliked because, like, Tesfaye is like... representing the depraved society of today, like, and normies don't like seeing it.
On Tumblr, there are a couple of gifsets but they're not particularly popular, and most of them either focus on Jennie or on Lily Rose (who has been one of the faces of proana on this site for years, so those are the people reblogging them), and the rest are posts that discuss how awful the show is.
There's no fanart, no fics (there are four on Ao3, three written by the same author, and another one that is multi-fandom), no praise even for the aesthetics of the show, not even by people who would write "Euphoria sucks and is exploitative, but at least Sam Levinson is a good cinematographer."
The second season of The White Lotus, whose first episode aired almost a year ago and was, supposedly, less viewed than The Idol's, is still receiving fresh fandom content, to the point that there are people who organize meetings where they show up dressed like Jennifer Coolidge's character and hang out for the day while staying in character.
What a flop.
I do hope that HBO will release the scrapped series, the one that was supposed to be the actual show before Tesfaye threw his massive tantrum and got the director fired and the entire script rewritten.
--
It doesn't sound great, but I wouldn't assume much from the lack of fic or even cosplayers. Some HBO series get that kind of engagement, but a lot don't. A lot of series in general don't.

listen i love batman and i love his stupid little feral children and i love the interesting ideas people come up with regarding these characters, and the different art and fics that are made in response to these different ideas. but my god. the social media au's where the batfam post the most boring and benign shit on twitter and it gets MILLIONS of likes and quote retweets??? do you actually think that many people would give a shit about some boring rich ass white boys? that the interaction of their tweets would be at that massive of a fucking scale? i don't even use twitter and i know that a tweet going "viral' means it got like 10k+ interactions. like have fun with your social media au's or whatever but at least make the analytics realistic baby 💀 there's no way that 90% of the population of gotham is seeing tim drakes stupid ass tweet about how his brother punched him in the dick or some bullshit. no one would care. his tweet would flop. he would get ratio'd by some random guy posting a meme telling him to shut up. lmfao

hi
i’ve decided that i will most likely continue to Not post art on the tumbleweed site because a lot of my self-worth hinges off of getting the “deserved” attention on my art (i’m not sure what the minimum for that is. because of how my brain works, i feel like a god compared to others, and thus feel that i dserve special attention)
because i’m not a massively popular artist nor am i a shipper, any rain world art i post will probably continue to massively flop
and people not having a fucking clue i exist is also an issue for my risk of rain art, which at this point is more relevant to the paladin mod & its lore than the actual base game because i’m not attached to the base-game survivors — at all — due to their ambiguous characters (hopoo has confirmed that they don’t give a fuck about lore, it’s an afterthought to them… they’re also pretty obviously allergic to good lore (see: the potential the void had) but that’s aside from the point. hyperinvox’s post on the risk of rain subreddit sums this unrelated point up nicely)
the tumblr, ao3, and twitter parts of the risk of rain community are a fucking corpse. it’s disappointing.
before my likely departure, however, i’ll leave you all with a few things:
-my discord # is unmatchedpowerofthesun and it will stay such -i’ll most likely still occasionally post necessary stuff -dm me for old leaked starstorm 2 models dating back to 2020. nobody needs to know how or why i have them :3 -fuck the official risk of rain discord -the very foundation of the risk of rain community is arguments and pedophiles/zoophiles -i’m not perfect. i’m very mentally ill and my roots are, regretfully, horrifically edgy and unfunny shitposting. but i try -game communities shouldn’t be dominated by official discords that have a fucking monopoly over the game’s community. they should run themselves, rather than bowing to Your Holy Emperor SeventeenUncles (who, from what i’ve heard, should’ve just stayed as the guy running the RoR twitter account. instead of becoming the community manager) -take my perspective of things with a grain of salt. my perspective is heavily distorted, so i may misinterpret or exaggerate a lot of things (with some contribution to that being from my poor memory) -and beneath is some art of E-N0K, the Pale Blade(right) (who i might make a model for in the future :)))) and Wyr’dvahn, the Diminished(left) from the paladin mod’s lore. with text based on AM’s hate monologue from “i have no mouth and i must scream”
Tumblr media
i might as well sign off with a banger
it’s entirely possible that my departure won’t be permanent, but eh. important to state shit regardless

@championofravens hope you don't mind me rambling a bit about death of the author in response to this reply. (The poll thread is getting long, and none of what I have to say particularly relates to Witch From Mercury so I don't want to rb it again.)
Also, I want to preface this by saying I don't want to argue that death of the author is superior or change the mind of anyone who falls on the side of authorial intent, just put to paper some of the ideas I've had that I'm thinking about again because of this convo.
I guess I want a story to be a self contained unit that can be fully appreciated without outside input. Everything relevant should be in there, and the creators should make themselves clear in the text of the work if they don't want be misunderstood.
I'm not sure if I prioritize reader interpretation over canon but I can confidently say I think both take priority over word-of-god. If a creator wants to make an important point ... make it in the text, don't wait to drop it in a press release or blog post or twitter. If they make a point they didn't want to, too bad. They should have been more careful.
All that being said, I think there's scale here. I think the more people who experience a story, the more leeway it should be given to take legs and diverge from the creator's intent. That is to say, I think death of the author is more in-play for a massive media property viewed by hundreds of millions of people than an indie webcomic with a readership in the tens of thousands, and even less for a short story published in a zine read by a few hundred people, or a fanfic that gets 50 hits on AO3. It simply doesn't have the reach to withstand it, and any challenge to the creator's intent is more likely to be felt. Death of the author-ing Star Wars is lazily throwing a rock into the ocean; doing the same for someone's flop Sonic fanfic is shooting a rock into a red solo cup at terminal velocity.
On a personal tangent, a lot of what I write is ambiguous relationship-wise. I can intend all I want, tag correctly and leave authors notes but I can't stop someone from reading romance into intimate platonic interactions, or platonic love into a shipfic that isn't explicitly romantic. For me that's ok, as long as they don't run around arguing that I meant for it to be X when it's actually Y.

Kind of an add-on, but I've been observing the response to the INSIDE OUT 2 teaser.
I haven't seen this kind of response to an upcoming Pixar movie in a while. Where it seems like the film/toonsphere on the internet is united in anticipating a Pixar movie... Because ELEMENTAL, LIGHTYEAR, and TURNING RED got all kinds of jeers from various (and largely toxic) swamps of the internet. But it seems like there's no complaint about INSIDE OUT 2...
Anxiety seems to be the film's Grogu. People are already falling in love with the character and especially her funky design. I see praise for a female Pixar character that isn't all perfect-looking or overtly "feminized", a man's idea of what a female character looks like vs. a funkier-looking male character. I think Anxiety's design, and what we saw in TURNING RED and such kinda steer us away from Lasseter's very "boys' club" Pixar, or as one person on twitter once put it, "For dads, by dads".
Also, a lot of us suffer from anxiety, myself included, so for a lot of people this character will be super (forgive me for using this word) relatable. First film was basic primal emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, Fear... And in this film we have a literal mental illness with Anxiety.
This film will singlehandedly cure Disney's animation box office blues. WISH is also apparently tracking very well and will likely outgross ELEMENTAL domestically and maybe soar above it worldwide, too. It costs around the same amount, so $500m should be the floor here. ELEMENTAL just barely missed that, but Disney top brass considered it a success while the praise lauded its leggy run as a "comeback story".
INSIDE OUT was massive back in 2015, and made some incredible numbers for an original movie not based on any pre-existing IP. Performed similarly to the likes of FINDING NEMO and THE INCREDIBLES, made well over $800m at the worldwide box office. With the 9-year wait and the astounding amount of trailer views? Easy billion right here. Perhaps Disney and Pixar knew what was on hand, and probably delayed ELIO - previously set to open this coming March - all the way to summer 2025 for that reason. (That, and - supposedly - to have some time to fix its story troubles. Post-strike, they can get the voice cast back now. Again, if that's all true.)
While box office is largely silly, it'll be cool to see a Pixar film not "flop" again. ELEMENTAL barely checked out, so INSIDE OUT 2 will be their first bona fide smash hit since... TOY STORY 4 all the way back in 2019. A sequel, no less. Hey, remember how the surprise appearance of Forky in the TOY STORY 4 teaser had the internet a-blazin' for a brief bit? Anxiety gives that kind of energy. Maybe a good secret weapon is a neurotic, jumpy character? (Thinking back to it, that TOY STORY 4 teaser is *brilliant*.) It's why people tend to talk about panic attack scenes a lot. I think the generations from millennials (mine) on down are more upfront about their mental health struggles, and the lot of us love to see it represented in some way or another.
From the teaser, I can't quite say much about Anxiety other than love that incredible design. I wonder if its portrayal will, in some way or another, really hit me hard.
As for later Disney-released theatrical animation, I'm going to be curious to see how they go about original stuff. ELIO would've given us an idea of that if it had come out in March 2024 as initially planned, but now post-WISH, we'll have to wait 'til Disney Animation's presumably-original movie comes out in November 2024. It'd be a little disheartening to see only a bunch of sequels (this, TOY STORY 5, ZOOTOPIA 2, and FROZEN III) do well while the originals have trouble.
Worth noting that the biggest animated movies domestically are largely franchise favorites or adaptations of beloved properties. Illumination's SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE reigns supreme with over $570m followed by SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE and MINIONS Deux, both of which made over $360m respectively... And then well behind that is PUSS IN BOOTS Dos with $185m, and then SING 2 above $160m. ELEMENTAL is the biggest original so far with $154m. Worldwide's a different beast, as ELEMENTAL outdid PUSS IN BOOTS 2 in overall global gross, for example.
But WISH doing good (with, say, $180m+ domestic and $600m+ worldwide) followed by INSIDE OUT 2 easily breaking the big billion will make for a nice upward trajectory for Disney-released theatrical animation... So that would make WDAS #63 the interesting one to follow. Does that repeat WISH's success? Does WISH's box office inform WDAS films going forward? We shall see.

I'm kinda gonna defend him a little here, lol. What he said was wrong, but aside from the fact that it's been a whole decade. We are constantly as ppl on the outside doing this thing with celebrities, specifically where we don't allow them to change. If he seems to have learned his lesson and doesn't present himself in that way in over ten years, then why not give him that chance. He apologised and has since changed his behaviour, but a decade later, when he is in a position of rare success, that's what ppl want to bring up? It feels like it's in bad taste, considering he apologised. There's literally nothing else he can do except apologise and do better, which he has. We've seen celebs say and do worse things and are still not getting the backlash they should. Timmy who said that terrible joke on snl is way worse than this, but he doesn't seem to be catching as much flack on your blog. Hope this doesn't come across as rude i really like your blog🙏
Thanks for your input Anon.
Look, I've already said on my blog that I'm not necessarily one who feels that all celebrities should be automatically "canceled" anytime they say or do smthg that is side-eye worthy. I think it depends on what was done, what their pattern has been, and a lot of other factors as well imo. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Yes, I'm sure all of us have grown as individuals in the past 10 years.
With that said, I don't really agree that people bringing up Charles' fatphobic and misogynistic comments/tweets from 10 years ago are somehow "in bad taste". Look, in life, there are CONSEQUENCES to what you say or do.
Imo, Charles is just reaping what he sowed. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Same way Timmy might reap what he sowed as well if Wonka is a massive FLOP, in part due to his SNL skit. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Your actions have consequences. So, if reading his former tweets is giving people a bad taste in their mouths about him, then that's not our fault. That's his! 🤷🏾‍♀️
My main issue with Charles is that his tweet wasn't just a one-time thing. It was a MULTIPLE offense on various occasions. 🥴 And why pick on "fat people" exactly? 😔 What did they do to him? 🥴
Re: Timmy....
I'll admit, I didn't see ALL of Timmy's skits on SNL, but the one he got backlash for... what did he say exactly? His band's name is Hamas?
That was very insensitive for sure.... and totally in bad taste. 😤 But do you understand the difference btwn someone repeating someone else's writing for a "supposed-to-be-funny" skit, vs you posting smthg from your own mind on your OWN volition on Twitter, MULTIPLE TIMES? 🤔
I'm not defending either of them.... Both of what they did was offensive. But your tweets say a lot about YOU.... Cuz that's actually coming from your own mind and thoughts.

YNaM Retrospectives – Chap. II
It’s me again, back with another chapter of my Retrospectives~  Just in time too, for the second Koishi day, apparently…  Anyway, I’m not too sure of the ethical considerations of making these sorts of posts with YNaM still unfinished, but a few people seemed to enjoy the last one, and that’s more than enough for me!
Here’s a link to Chap. II, the chapter in question:
Y’know, as I keep writing these, it feels like I’m veering into writingcraft more and more.  So I’d like to address something—basically, that I’m still very much an amateur!  While I’ve been writing for a good bit (12-ish years), and I like to think I have some things nailed down, I’m far from an expert.  I’ve never actually published anything (not that I’ve tried), and a lot of what I “know” I learned from trial-and-error, just figuring out what I liked and didn't. It feels kind of...self-important, in a way, writing about what I think as if I somehow know what I’m doing.  But then again, I feel the same way about posting on Twitter, and everybody already does that, so maybe it’s just me?
So I’ll just put it like this (and never mention it again):  I like explaining how I think of things, but I don’t know if they’re right!  I’m just a hobbyist who loves Touhou yuri, trying to get better at writing~  I’m just super happy and grateful people enjoy my work!
Anyway, now that that’s out of the way—Scene 1!
So in my last post, I mentioned how I always felt Flan’s reaction to Remi setting her up to be at the party was a little melodramatic—well, it seems 2021 me agreed with me!  God, like half of Chap. II S1 is just me backpedaling on that.  Like, I had Flan’s outburst to give her some agency and build tension, but a) she’s not stupid, and b) she can’t be annoying to the reader, so I had to resolve it as quickly as possible (from Flan’s perspective, anyway).  From what I’ve seen in other media, making a character super whiny or stubborn over trivial things is a great way to make your whole audience hate them.  I was really scared of that, back in the day.  And even now, it’s a line I have to toe constantly, since so much of the conflict in YNaM is introspective and psychological…
Fun fact!  I quite like putting references to other stories in YNaM, and Chap. II S1 has the first of them.  When Flan is describing Satori and Koishi, she mentions their eyes as “just flopping around”—this is a turn of phrase/running gag from the KoiFlan fic Bloody Retrograde Prequel Vignettes, by SumDumMuffin.
God I love Vignettes so much.  It’s a bit flawed, and it wasn’t ever finished (I sob), but I love it so, so much.  It’s tragic yet sweet, doesn’t infantilize Flan, and there are some great headcanons to boot (indecipherable Scottish Yuugi, truly incredible headcanon); like, Koishi and Flandre just have so much chemistry and heart to them...   It wasn’t what got me into KoiFlan shipping (I have Yohane to thank for that), but it was what turbocharged it to OTP levels.
Honestly, Vignettes being left unfinished for so long was what pushed me over the edge in writing YNaM in the first place!  Back in late 2020, I’d been reading Touhou and yuri for years, and already liked KoiFlan, but I loved Vignettes so much that once I got to end and realized it was unfinished, my heart hurt.  Around the same time, I decided to dip my toe in the water of Touhou fanfiction with that year’s NaNoWriMo, for which I did a gen adventure fic with Kagerou as MC (that will never see the light of day).  So, of course, I rode a massive wave of misguided confidence all through the rough draft of YNH/YNaM, thinking I could fully finish YNaM in like, six months—at which point I realized I had no idea how much work it took to actually make a longfic, much less a good longfic…  Makes the 100k words of Vignettes seem herculean to me now…
As a result, I'm determined to see YNaM through to completion.  I’m still a long way from completing that goal (and honestly things looked a little shaky there for awhile), but I’m trying my best!  Doing these little side projects help too; they’re kind of like burnout prevention measures lol
Anyway, on to Scene 2—I actually remember this scene quite well because of how inordinately difficult it was to write at the time.  For one, it required actual research (gasp), but also because I had to finalize this same scene twice.
See, when I was originally hashing out Flan and Koi’s character dynamics in YNH, Koishi was very different.  She was much more quiet, reserved, and flat—basically, the way she acts towards Flan in this scene, only all the time.  She had a distinct speech style too—stiff, formal, and no contractions.  Like, I had a reason for it—it not only Flan’s speech style on the page, but also contrasted open-eye Koishi vs canon closed-eye Koishi.  So I thought it fit.  But, when it came time to convert YNH into YNaM, I completed Scene 2 with that original characterization—and it just felt so off.  The character I’d written wasn’t Koishi, it was an OC masquerading as Koishi.  And worse, that character didn’t even work—I had pages upon pages of stilted speech, dull dynamics (because Flan and OC!Koishi were too similar to one another), and a character that just didn’t feel anything like Koishi.
I’ll elaborate more on this at some point, cuz I could write a whole article on this, but—even though I’m writing an AU, I still want the characters to be recognizable as themselves.  Otherwise, what’s the point of writing fanfiction?  I dunno, it’s important to me that YNaM Flan feels like an interpretation of Flandre, rather than someone different, someone alien.  Cuz there’s a difference, in my eyes.  Like, I really hope that even though she has a conscious mind, YNaM Koishi still feels like Koishi, even if we only get to see it when she’s happy.
Now, this is all rendered incredibly ironic considering Chap. III, but I digress.
Anyway, I finally had the good sense to redo Koishi’s characterization.  But I’d already finalized Scene 2, so I had to rip apart a functioning scene and redo all the dialogue.  A little tedious, but no problem, right?  But transliterating the dialogue wrecked the flow, Koishi’s new personality completely flipped the character dynamics, and above all I needed to make Koishi more expressive without clashing with Flandre, and through doing all this I’d completely destroyed the momentum of the scene—it was a mess. A step away from a total rewrite.
Even reading it back now, I feel like it’s held together with prosaic duct-tape (particularly towards the middle), but at least I finished it.  That’s the important part, and the part I learned from.
So yeah!  That’s all I have to say about Chap. II.  Tune in next week for my thoughts on Chap. III—and god knows I have a bone to pick with that one.
Oh also—I’ll announce this on my Twitter at some point, but I’m gonna start taking oneshot suggestions now~  If you're reading this and you have an idea or situation for a short KoiFlan fic, feel free to shoot me a message over here on Tumblr and maybe I'll write it out! (I mean, you could use the bird app too, but since Elon is nuking DMs for some reason I thought I’d mention it here first).  Like, In Sickness and in Health was just me prompting myself to do a sickfic, lol. I’ve never done something like this before, but it seems like a fun challenge!
PS: I died laughing reading back that old A/N.  Particularly the words “mostly happy romance story”.  Yeah, because that’s totally what YNaM is, right…?  Just a happy romance story, nothing to see here…

hi ! long time fan of your work Koko :) i wanted to ask you what your experience has been like delving into each social media platform, trying to get a feel for each, and now settling on tumblr ? how would you compare each of them, and why do you feel that tumblr has been your best experience so far? thank you for your time <3
[really long post lol]
There are so many things going on in my mind that I want to be able to articulate into words as I read this question lmaooo.
To have a fuller understanding I've talked about quality over quantity of social media interaction here and here. To summarize, I did some reflecting after attempting to 'reboot my art accounts' earlier this year. I realized that attempting to spread myself thin doesn't make me happy and I should only focus on a platform that encourages meaningful feedback and thoughts from other people. To me, Twitter and Instagram was not a place for it due to the nature of its design and algorithm.
I prefer comments over numbers. Something that in my experience isn't super common on Twitter or Insta (unless you're a really big account, or your post blown up to a massive audience). Most interactions there start and end with a like, and perhaps if they are generous enough, maybe a Insta Story share or retweet. The stories are just plain, and it's not often one get's a quote retweet (if you have more qrts, then you are being ratio'd LOL). It's a numbers game. The only parameters you base your "success" on these platforms is through the amount of likes or retweets you have. I am not saying it is impossible to have a good experience on these platforms, nor saying it's impossible to get mutuals there. However, I personally did not feel that people are actively encouraged to actually say something about the artwork if the person isn't a mutual or someone they already know. One experience that put it into perspective was when an old FNAF painting I did got around 1,500 likes despite the account being new and bare. Flopped on Insta but blew up on twitter; it dawned on me how meaningless and based on luck these large numbers were.
Now, here is where tumblr kicked in! Tumblr was part of the social media 'i tried to reboot'. I know that the growth here can be long (the ban, and people left blah blah yeah), and honestly did not expect much from it. But, I channeled my familiarity with tumblr from 2014 and remembered: "hey! In the tags, guys". Posting and reblogging made me enjoy the "tag culture" of this hellsite—even WAY more than before! The "comments via tags" thing is almost a way to give your thoughts and prayers remarks without the expectation for direct social interaction. Some people prefer this over the actual comment section, and it makes them more comfortable to say something about the work! I value every reblog that has comments and tags. Being able to hear your thoughts about the piece, why you like it is 1000% better than tons of likes. I get to actually see why people interact with the post; I'd describe it as having a touch of humanity in the interaction. Actual quality!
This is inherent to Tumblr's design from the beginning. There were no likes on this site before. At its core, people must reblog. And with the whole craze back then on this site with fandoms and such, people just started blurting out comments via tags. Even when likes were first introduced, the number reblogs often out weighed the likes. Because tapping a singular button and ending it there doesn't actually show much appreciation! Being on a platform where the community is encourage to use the tags beyond blog organization is amazing. Input and thoughts, are valued here and I think that's pretty cool. I look at the type of interaction the platform can give, not its quantity. I had fun time here at 40 followers, am still having that same fun at 200+. Probably will be the same throughout! (hopefully)
At the end, this place is still social media and one's relationship with it should be monitored. All comments (good and bad) shouldn't go to your head too much. But, at the very least, Tumblr's design and community allows a bit more of a humane touch when interacting with someone's work.
In terms of design though, I like that tumblr allows for different types of media (videos, audio, image sizes, long posts, asks + answers). Its archival system and the ability to open different blogs is also cool. Customization and markups are really nice! I love how personalized this place can be.
Hopefully this answers your question, and is comprehensive enough LOL . Again, this is my experience, and my journey. It may be different from yours. Just remember to go where you grow while having fun!

The thing with Niall is that he'll never be content with what he has or have achieved. Remember how much begging he did for his second album era?? It was constant begging and screaming and demanding from him even though it was painfully obvious to everyone including himself that what he got was what he deserved and more begging from him won't make his music sell better. I remember in order to get the UK #1 with Heartbreak Weather he discounted the album in the first week itself and was making pity IG and Twitter posts begging people to get him the #1. Eventually after all the discounts and begging he got what he wanted but even then the numbers he pulled was less than half of what HS1 did in the first week, 1/3 of what Fine Line did in the first week and embarrassingly nowhere near the numbers Harry's House did in its first week or 2nd week or any week after that. It is obvious that the numbers he is pulling is according to his standards and popularity. BUT he is never satisfied with any of it. He wants more more and more. Same with his cancelled arena tour. He knew more than anyone that his 2018 theatre tour didn't sell at all and his team had to hide the official boxscores yet it didn't stop him from booking arenas for his next tour knowing the chart, streaming and sales numbers he pulled in his 2nd era is not even half of what he pulled with his debut era.
So unless he realises soon that he is not The Harry Styles or not even Niall Horan from the massive boyband One Direction once he was known for.... he is in for a really massive ugly reality check with his next era. Bcz his star power once average back in 2017/18 is now rapidly dipping low and I'm not even sure he has anyone outside his 50 fans interested in him or his music anymore. So he should really lower his massive expectations or he'll start to spiral like Liam once he realise that his career is not having the success he thinks he should have. Seeing him all pathetic and sad watching Harry at his sold out shows at Wembley Stadium was really not the look he wants people to remember because even him going there didn't generate any hype or clout like he thought he could get. It will be really interesting to see what he does next with his new era because Capitol is not having any of it with constant flops and he'll be looking down the barrel in need of a new label soon if he doesn't earn Capitol a penny back.
Fully agree. HBW debuted with 59k which was a huge drop on Flicker's 152k.

Klaus Stan’s r such massive pussies and over dramatic lmao they cry over someone saying they dislike that flop but turn around and trash every character without even tagging it as anti whatever, like literally every character has been slandered to death in this fandom including my fav my god they acting like it’s the end of the word if U didn’t tag it as “ klaus negativity”. Like imagine how the Ben Stan’s felt when klaus Stan’s was dragging him and not tagging it as anti Ben, or how Lila Stan’s felt after season 2 when literally half the fandom was hating on her or even Allison Stan’s after season 3 OR EVEN LUTHER STANS LMAOO. Or viktor Stan’s like the aunt of slander I’ve seen on Reddit twitter and TikTok like all u gotta do is scroll lmfao Klaus Stan’s r so sheltered they would never survive in the real world
OMG THANK YOU, THIS!!
because I see slandering of characters in the main tags all the time and you expect me to change my tags? Like I've never seen anyone else use anti character tags. Yeah it must be annoying scrolling through your fav's tag to see nice posts of them and then see slander of them but guess the fuck what? Literally everyone else who sees that just scrolls past or blocks the person. Ur right like they're so fragile. Imagine harassing someone for expressing slight dislike for your fav

Twitter has so quickly turned to a bigger pile of crap. And yet, people are still resistant to leave.
On one hand, I can understand the whole, "don't want to lose the huge following," but it's not like you have to deactivate once you go on a different platform. Just direct people to the new one you're going on and just take the attrition.
Twitter has NO:
support
security -> it's actually a HUGE security risk right now
structure
development team
content moderation
privacy -> apparently devs have a god mode where they can actually sign in AS you and do whatever they want
I'm sure i'm still missing a handful of bullet points, but the above should be enough.
I'm really curious what will make people leave that site. Because even engagement has degraded. And that's on purpose. If you want more views/hits, you need to pay the $8/month. I read an article on Wired (i think it was Wired) that was saying that the numbers you see on your post aren't even real. It's faked to make you believe a lot of people are engaging with you. I'm looking at some old tweets traffic and each one has "Something went wrong" on them.
Can you guys reblog and recommend to your friends alternatives to the bird site? Here's a handful of my opinions here about sites that people have gravitated to:
Mastodon - THIS is honestly the best TWITTER alternative. It's content moderated by a human TEAM. Like System Admins literally have a team. They comply with international laws, which Twitter is currently NOT doing. They are NOT centralized and if you sign up to be on one instance and realize it's not for you, you can MIGRATE to another one whilst carrying your followers over, because it's part of the fediverse.
Instagram - A lot of artists gravitate to this platform. I've heard that it is work to fight the algorithm unless you already have a massive following. Wouldn't want to start from scratch here - again, from what I've heard.
Tumblr - Tumblr is so friggin hard to describe. It's an absolute place to goof off, but will have these epiphany type posts or even stuff you learn about. It's absolutely a place where you learn new things that's too unbelievable to take as truth, then you go look it up and there it is... science. Tumblr has a ton of catradora content and that's generally why I'm here. It's a fandom site, it's a shitpost site (let's be honest, it's mostly a shitpost site), but it HAS this serious side to it. Tumblr is the annoying friend you hang out with because while they can be fucking bat shit crazy sometimes, they'll actually sit down and have a real talk with you if you need it.
facebook - pfffffffffff you kidding? facebook is your racist alcoholic-by-choice abusive uncle. FUCK THAT GUY
Hive - an absolute flop of an alternative. It's essentially in the same state as Twitter is in right now regarding, privacy, support, and security.
BlueSky - for those unfamiliar, this is Jack Dorsey's (original creator of twitter) next "big thing". Thing is, Jack has lost the trust of his original audience. I know I certainly don't want to touch this site/app. The big idea is that he's creating the social media as a protocol which can be built upon from third party companies. But you wanna know who already did that? Mastodon!
You know, mastodon is new, so it still has some issues to iron out, but it's in SUCH a better state than what original twitter guy can do. It's open source and ad free. Which means you actually have privacy instead of your data getting sold left and right.
ANYWAY - Long post - woops - hopefully you can help me convince people to leave the trash site. There's still a small handful of catradorians left that I follow closely that's "keeping" me there.

#Uncool500 and #Top2000
Every year, many thousands of listeners to NPO Radio 2 vote for their favourite songs. The station puts together a big list, 2000 songs long, and plays them out in that quiet period between kerstmas and nieuwjaarsdag. There are a lot of listeners, and the number one is usually "Bohemian rhapsody" or "Stairway to heaven" or something like that.
I think it would be interesting to take the Uncool 500 (as voted by about ninety people on Music Twitter on the Isles Trans-Manche: the full chart is in parts 1 2 3). Take the Uncool 500 and compare it with the NPO 2000 (as voted by everyone in the Netherlands). Voting for both surveys took place during October and November.
So I've taken the 2022 top 2000, and stripped out everything dated 1976 or earlier (as those songs weren't eligible for the Uncool 500). There's still over 1500 songs left.
The number 1 amongst post-1977 songs is "Roller coaster" by Danny Vera, from 2019. It's a soaring ballad, a very strong song, and it hit right to the heart for the Dutch public. A song you've almost certainly never heard.
youtube
It’s a song they've never tried to make a hit this side of the channel. The next songs were "Hotel California" by The Eagles, "Fix you" by Coldplay, "Black" by Metallica, "Avond" by Boudewijn de Groot, and "Nothing else matters" by Metallica.
(What's with the Boudewijn de Groot song? Good question, it was a spectacular flop when released in ‘97 but now hits a chord with the Dutch. I don't understand why.)
The NPO list gets a lot of love from the rock and metal fans - Guns 'n' Roses, Queen, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, all have big fanbases, all get into the top 40.
"Go your own way" is the first song to appear in both lists - 18 on NPO, 81 on Uncool. Then comes "Smells like teen spirit" (NPO 23, Uncool 9) and The Cure’s "A forest" (NPO 70, Uncool 27). Don’t think BBC Radio 2 viewers would vote “A forest” to number 70...
There's a crossover run from NPO 35-38: "In the air tonight", "Hurt" by Johnny Cash, "Killing in the name", and "Shallow" by Lady Gaga (Uncools 255, 219, 139, 254). "Running up that hill" is NPO's 40, our 214. "Creep" and "Lose yourself" both made the NPO top 50.
Turns out that 134 songs appear in both lists, which is somewhat more than I'd expected. Here's the complete list, ordered by the Uncool 500 position.

NPO Radio 2's Top 2000 continues until 31 december. The station is broadly similar to BBC Radio 2, though there's no equivalent of the Jeremy Vine show.
Music Twitter might also be interested in NPO 3fm, it combines the contemporary bits of BBC 6 Music and the pop sensibilities of Radio 1.
Readers after higher culture might like to know about NPO Radio 4, almost entirely classical. My strong preference is VRT's Klara, a sprightly mixture of classical, modern, jazz, world and Other Stuff.
