If you could come up with the storylines for each Lone Star character (not Owen) for the next season, what would they be?
OH THIS IS A GOOD ONE… (not owen) made me laugh thank you. this didn’t end up being Quite what you asked but here are my hopes for s5!:
marjan is easy: comphet realization to lesbian arc. I don’t even need them to give her a gf i just want them to Address The Closeted Lesbianism they’ve been handing me over the past four seasons. i want salim to come back (in person or in conversation) for the rule of threes and have it force her to reckon with a lot of assumptions she had about herself. im on my hands and knees about it. I’ve been rewatching with a friend recently and i fucking forgot that they have her say a line about how her favorite place to hide as a kid was the closet. remember those new bts photos where she’s basically wearing the lesbian flag as a headscarf. lone star writers room i am IN YOUR WALLS. also i want to meet her sister. i need someone to call her mouse
nancy my beloved… honestly i just really want a nancy begins episode!! i want to know why she became a paramedic, i want to know about her relationship with her sister and if there’s any particular reason it was a soft spot for her during the DNR episode… I don’t have any particular ideas for specific i just want to know more about her!!! actually I’d love her to have to confront Tim’s death a little more directly. they made that whole thing about Owen which is fucking crazy to me, I’d love for the next time TK gets hurt (lol) for it to be something that dredges that up for her.
grace… miss grace i want to see you angry again. no plot line in mind i just like it when she’s pretending she doesn’t get angry or stubborn, she is such a fascinating character study. i love when she’s a contradiction. she and carlos teaming up was one of my favorite things abt s3, i would be so jazzed to see more things of that flavor.
tommy. hm… I don’t think I have any particular storylines for her in mind but I want more of her and grace and judd together because they are so delightful and lovely and best friends. OH ACTUALLY. I want something with tommy and charlie. this baby that was named in honor of the late love of her life. o don’t know what that story would be but there’s something there for sure…
carlos is the same as nancy tbh, I want a real full carlos begins! I want to meet his sisters! I want to see more of the mess that was growing up gay and feeling out of place and trying to be what your dad would want even though he thinks you’re too soft for it. why did he do it anyways! I also would love to see him and his mom being more involved, partially because obviously they had a horrible loss and trauma and she saw it happen but also because I love andrea:) she’s everything 2 me
judd I have been waiting for them to make you captain since SEASON THREE!! i want owen to retire and i want them to expand on the tension we got for the period he was captain!! i want to see how the dynamic changes and how his past issues come up when he’s in charge For Good. i want to see him get emotional about it and i want him to be captain while wyatt is his probie if they put him back on the firefighter track after his recovery :) bc that would be fun conflict and i think everything they did with owen (traumatically lost whole crew, son on your team) would be 100x better with judd
mateo is also a difficult one for specifics. I feel like they’re relatively fair with him? even with the low screentime all the secondary characters are relegated to. I’d be interested in seeing more fallout about his cousin, and I LOVED what they did with him and captain tatum so anything of that flavor of earnestness from him is always so good. maybe he and tatum will be buddies off the clock :)
tk getting hurt in increasingly absurd ways is always a classic that I look forward to them playing into lol
misc: i want to see more big brother wyatt with charlie getting a little older, i want less owen solo-plotlines, more ghost/memory gwyn i love her, carlos with his curls, the vega twins being involved in something maybe? that would be fun and stressful gjfhdhf
EDIT: OH MY GOD I FORGOT PAUL. I ABANDONED MY BOY. ok paul deserves literally any kind of robust plotline. Paul begins for starters, but also so much of his trans plotlines feel a little fumbled. I want a really earnest well done episode that isn’t necessarily About him being trans, but his transness is a factor and it’s handled in a really genuinely good and relatable way. they OWE HIM AND US THAT!! i also would love to see more of the gay kids being in gay spaces :)

It's 2023 and I'm angry once again about the shitty writing in the last few seasons of Voltron.
Today's topic - Shiro. More specifically his romantic relationships - and the wasted potential.
I think I'm mostly annoyed at how the writing choices just don't make any sense to me. Specifically the part where they literally didn't give us any information about Shiro's love interests. Nothing. Like who does that? Who writes a romance where one half of the couple is entirely an unknown? They didn't do that for any other main ship in the show, only the lgbtq+ one and maybe it wasn't intentional but it kinda rubs me the wrong way.
Correct me if I'm remembering wrong but I think the one scene they show us of Shiro and Adam is in the midst of a fight - they don't really show their relationship in exactly a good light and it's the ONLY thing they give us of them. Why is that the only thing you show us. How did they meet? What was their relationship vibe? Milestones in their relationship, important moments, uh what kind of person Adam was? Anything? ANYTHING??
Don't get me wrong, all the Adam x Shiro fanart and speculations are absolutely amazing, and y'all are an absolute wonder, I hope everyone who does ship Adam x Shiro keep finding all the joy and happiness in that ship - but just, I find it personally hard to ship two people when I know vastly more about one of the people and nothing about the other. And there's some part of me that almost feels like Voltron did this on purpose. They put no effort into Adam and Shiro and it pisses me off. And then! They continue to put in zero effort, and kill Adam off! Okay fine! I guess he was just meant to be a side character, cannon fodder for Shiro's tragic backstory, WHATEVER I HATE IT BUT OKAY?!
BUT T H E N, they have the opportunity to start over again with another romance and they STILL DON'T SHOW US SHIT. Who does Shiro even marry wtf was his name? Curtis??????? DO WE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS MAN. AN Y T H I N G. HOW MUCH SCREENTIME OF HIM DO WE GET, PRAY TELL. WHO IS CURTIS HUH. TELL ME ABOUT HIM, I AM ON MY KNEES. I AM ASKING FOR THE BARE MINIMUM HERE. CURTIS AND SHIRO AS A RELATIONSHIP DESERVES BETTER. PUT IN SOME DAMN EFFORT. WTF.
And I would perhaps be able to make my peace with it, if I didn't feel that they ignored literally the perfect candidate for a relationship with Shiro after Adam, with all of the foundations already fucking BUILT. It would have taken so little effort at that point to write a compelling relationship where BOTH characters are well known and loved. I am talking about MATT. Hear me out.
We actually KNOW Matt. We are fond of Matt. He is our meme lord. He is our bespectacled (or not so bespectacled anymore) badass. A rebel, a staff wielding king. And not only that, he has known Shiro for a damn long time. He was literally in the first scene of the show WITH Shiro. They worked together at the Academy and in the field, not knowing each other that well of course, but got thrown into that entire Galra kidnapping situation, protected each other in the field, lost contact, got reunited, became friends - meanwhile Matt became like, a ten bajillion times more confident in himself, more reassured, taken on a leadership role, a scenario where it could potentially lead to some people (AHEM perhaps a certain person with one arm) sitting up and taking notice after years of knowing the other person -
Like do not try and tell me that's not the perfect set up for a developing relationship. Someone you've known for a long time, circumstances push you to work together, get to know each other, save each other, and you get closer and eventually realize hey. I think I might like this person. That shifting dynamic, that developing relationship - what could be better? AND IT WAS BASICALLY ALREADY IN THERE. IT WAS SITTING RIGHT THERE, IT WAS XISNJSNJSBDJDNDNDBDND
Also they would be an absolute power couple, don't even lie to me.
Their personalities are so fucking compatible as well. Like Shiro's seriousness and competence and dry humour in contrast with Matt's endearingly nerdy brand of goofiness along with his own competence/skills? Can you imagine how adorable that would've been?
Not only that, Shiro is already basically Pidge's pseudo older brother. They have such strong sibling vibes, can you imagine how awesome it would've been if Shiro had actually become Pidge's brother in law???
Not to mention having Matt start up a relationship with Shiro - bisexual/pansexual representation.
All I wanted was SOME effort. Like, I would have been perfectly happy with Adam X Shiro or Curtis x Shiro if the writers had simply put in an ounce of effort into making it convincing. It's such lazy writing and it makes me so upset, thinking back on it. And it makes me even more upset realizing they could've made it amazing by picking a character that already has the perfect setup. the lack of effort almost feels intentional, because it wouldn't have even taken that much to make a convincing, well written relationship. ThIS is the representation you hinted at for so long? This is what we waited for? Are you fucking joking. I'm gonna riot, Shiro and Adam and Curtis deserved better.
I have a feeling thinking about this stuff is gonna make me spiral and sooner or later I'm gonna start ranting about the lack of effort they put into Allura and Lance as well And the lost potential of Klance of course
God, Voltron was such a shit show.

The latest rayllum anon really got me pretty upset tbh. Like if the creators didn't "give a damn" about them they wouldn't be written like that… Rayllum has become one of the major plot points of the series and they are basically the center of each other's developments being the main characters. They are the couple with the most screentime, they got the most development of all of them, the first arc ends with the epic salvation, the first comic of the series is around them, etc etc… it's just that they are written diferently because each couple got it's thing. With Janaya and Ruthari originally being the main ones, I highly doubt it. Ruthari doesn't have a lot of screentime and I think Janaya was born after Rayllum. They have said in some interviews that they "don't write" romance and are guided by the character's feelings (I can't find them right now but I read a couple when they mentionthat, with rayllum in one of them) so I doubt that Janaya was suposed to be a main couple in the first place as no one was suposed to be a couple at all. That aside, I love how politely you respond to everyone! It's great. I just wanted to add something. If everything, the biggest fans of rayllum are the writers themselves, If they didn't care they wouldn't have made Rayla and Callum so down bad for each other, s5 is full of them for example. I think people tend to miss the fact they that are best friends who happen to be in love. Anyways have a nice day!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if I definitely agree - while Rayllum's development or meshing as a ship may not work for everyone, how much focus their dynamic gets shows that it is one of the major cornerstones of the entire show. We once again got a season where they spent zero episodes seriously apart, while literally every other pair dynamic has been separated for much much longer and/or receives less focus.
In terms of 'planned,' what I meant by Janaya and Ruthari likely being from the show's conception is 1) the Sunfire elves have clearly always had a big role to play and Amaya's plot line has been synonymous with Janai's since 2x01 and 2) Runaan's home life (and Rayla's subsequent upbringing) were likely realized very early on, particularly as it plays into the series slow burn of the coin plot line. The show has also been very clear that a broad variety of Queer rep was important to them, so I'm sure Janaya was in the cards very early. I think the latest ship to be created for the show was likely Terry and Claudia (in that sense anyway)
Like... everyone following me presumably likes and/or ships Rayllum pretty damn hard, but I don't think anyone ships Rayllum harder than the TDP crew / writers. They're insane. I love it. And I do think like - even with shows or movies or whatever that have disappointed me, it's never, I think, that the creators behind them don't "give a damn". To me, it's usually that they just cared about other things/characters to the detriment of other things/characters, and/or didn't think about the implications of those choices. But like - creators almost always care, hence why they create, and I think that's important to honour too

Its 10:45pm time to yap about ANOTHER au (because I cannot be stopped)
So remember that untitled atla x tmnt 2012 au I came up with thats inspired by A Tale Of Spirits?
Well...it has a title now :)
"Before The Summer's End." (Look A Tale Of Spirits is already a really good title but I can't USE it because its already claimed and I've been wanting to yap about this au for so long and couldn't come up with an idea so SUE ME)
So basic premise, the turtles (including my own tmnt 2012 versions of Venus and Jennika because they are my beloveds and its my au I can do whatever I want, plus those two are not in fics often) all get transported to the alta world and separated from each other. (Again like A Tale Of Spirits but that fic has rooted itself into my brain and this au isnt gonna be a carbon copy so its cool)
So key differences from A Tale Of Spirits
Its tmnt 2012 (my beloveds) post season 4 (the turtles are all 20)
It includes Venus and Jennika
It begins at the end of season 1 episode 3 "The Southern Air Temple" unlike A Tale Of Spirits which starts at the beginning of season 2
So already pretty different
And for once Leo ISNT gonna be the main victim of my angst hammer. Its gonna be DONNIE (I have plans for him >:3)
So who exactly ends up with who?
Venus will be the first turtle introduced, landing in the Southern Air Temple and will meet Aang, Katara and Sokka straight away (Venus and Jennika will definitely get the most screentime since I am basically inserting characters that were never in tmnt 2012 and making them fit in with my favorite turtles because the two girlies definitely SHOULD'VE been there Im just saying)
Jennika will land on Kyoshi Island and will join the Gaang soon after they meet. (Girlie gonna have a field day)
Leo meanwhile will land in the ocean close to Prince Zuko's ship, close enough to warrant investigation. (Ok I know that Raph, Jennika, maybe even Mikey would've been better fits for Zuko but I didnt want to take the obvious route plus Zuko becomes "The Blue Spirit" wielding twin swords and later on calls himself "Lee" the joke was right there and I had to take it)
Raph lands in an Earth Kingdom town, very close to the estate of the Beifong family. (Yeah I loved the Raph Toph dynamic in A Tale Of Spirits, bite me)
Donnie ends up in the Northern Air Temple (he aint gonna STAY there because...I have plans for him. He's gonna learn the lesson Leo has already learned. Being the author's favorite is NOT a good thing :3. Donnie's gonna go through it that's all I'll say)
And Mikey is gonna land right in front of Princess Azula, in the heart of Fire Nation territory. (Purely because I am very tired of Mikey being treated as a "fragile weak innocent baby" by fanon. NO MIKEY CAN BE JUST AS DANGEROUS AS AZULA. Especially if he gets angry)
Its gonna be very fun, especially on multiple occasions that the kids need adult the turtles will realize that THEY are the adults
Hehehehe
("We need an adult...I am the adult")
Almost forgot to post the age order of the turtles oh my god I am tired
Ok so the age order from oldest to youngest is
Leo, Raph, Venus, Donnie, Jennika, Mikey

is there anything you ever wish we learned more about celestial magic? or at least anyway you’d want to change it considering how it work now, because it had so much potential but as you’ve stated it now basically works as celestial spirt take over (which honestly if take literally could be even cooler like lucy and her sprits merging sure as hell is a concept)
Oh dear here I go. I love this topic.
I definitely wish we learned more about the spirits themselves, their powers, and their dynamics between each other and people around them.
We explored this in the Angel fight, but that's really the most we ever get. I liked when we sawCapricorn's loyalty in Tenrou (and how Loke knew it), but again, we just never get anything like it ever again. I was looking forward to Libra the whole show (because it's my sign) and she ended up being a plot device to show off how cool Kagura is.
I genuinely believe that spirits should never be undermined in their own main magic, because they're just pointless then. At least make them equal like Juvia vs Aquarius, geez. Horologium is one of the most useful spirits Lucy has, and he's irreplaceable, unlike her fighting spirits. No other spirit can do ultimate defense like him, (eg Loke can be interchanged with Virgo or Taurus, because if you just want raw power, they can all do it similarly).
This ramble got really long so here's a read more.
Most of them are now just convenient weapons to be summoned when the author realizes they've lacked screen time recently. Gemini, one of the better-handled ones, are just the cool trick Lucy has for jokes or fake-outs/deceit, and she summons them to use Urano Metria I guess. And no, I'm not saying that's bad, that's really good actually, but that's the thing-- Gemini is just a cool power. We never explore Gemini's viewpoints or Aries' former mistreatment ever again, even though it's apparently a prevailing problem among CSM. Lucy being a mage that actually loves her spirits is the whole crux of Lucy's magic, and yet it's like everyone's forgotten it was ever an issue in the world.
Understandably, it's because we have zero points of comparison. It would have been cool if we found another CSM like Karen again, just to see how the spirits react due to Lucy's influence on them.
I truly believe this problem exists because Lucy got too many keys too quickly. It just got too difficult to balance screentime, and so they just stopped showing up altogether for any meaningful reason than battle. I know it's necessary for the plot and it's sparsely explained away in Key of Starry Heavens and the Eclipse gate yada yada, but it just doesn't make sense that there are only two Celestial Spirit mages in the entire damn world when gold keys are so rare. It's never explained why this is like this except for us to think 'oh, she's the main character, of course'. I really think the series could have benefited from more one-off characters that are CSM, like-- god forbid I say this, Everlue.
Heck, we should have had some mages that just specialize in Silver Keys. You're not telling me such a versatile old magic isn't researched to hell and back with a cult following and some die-hard collectors. Money and rarity isn't really a valid concern, Shiny hunters exist in the Pokemon fandom. if people want something, they will do anything legal and illegal to get it.
I feel it's a shame that we have to continue enforcing the 'ohh, I'm using your magic by being here, I gotta go and let you fight by yourself' thing, since there's so much potential in tag teaming.
I want to see them fight together, rather than Lucy just taking their powers and using them like Digimon fusion. Actually that's a terrible comparison, Digimon fusions are better because the Digimon is still there conjoined like armor, speaking to each other, and they're actually fighting together with their Tamers as one. Okay now I like this idea better. I want something like that for Lucy if she's going to be a magical girl, not the Requip: Celestial Spirit Powers that we got. Yeah what we got is cool but I like the spirits as characters too, not just as one of Lucy's many power varieties.
I do like that Virgo gave Lucy a whip in Edolas. We hardly see her use it effectively and at some point it's just gone, but I feel that's a great start in going from summoning spirits to fighting with their powers. We should have expanded on that before the Star Dresses, honestly. Maybe Taurus gives her a lesser version of his axe or gauntlets that grant her some super strength, Loke gives her a ring that can use a holder-type Regulus, Aquarius gives her a water jug and Lucy can use some Water Magic as long as she's using the water from it. Imagine if she only got these weapons after a while of bonding with them, like a statement of trust and love from spirit to owner.
Sure she'll find weapons she's ill-fitted for, but isn't that the point? Imagine Lucy asking for advice from the rest of her teammates or even her spirits themselves, because one of them gave her a rapier and she needs to learn a bit of how to use it? The training arc before GMG would have been perfect for these things.
I'd also like if they continued a Holder-type theming with those, because Lucy's the only Holder-type in Team Natsu and I wish she stayed like that so she continued to remain unique. We literally have-- so many magical-girl type female mages, form Requip to Takeover to Star Dresses. Mashima uses all of them as an excuse for fanservice, and he's so blatant about it ugh. Couldn't he at least make the designs look good?
Alright! That's about it I have for now. I have a tag called 'the menace celestials' if anyone ever wants to read all the rambles I've had about Celestial Spirit magic. Thank you for the ask!

Damn watching Big Brother made me realize just how good of a friendship duo Quinn and Artie are. They’re so much fun together, Kevin and Dianna are wonderful and sound great on their duets, too. It’s one of the few (”straight”) m/f friendships that had screentime, even if just in one episode, and didn’t turn romantic which I love because Glee desperately needed more friendship stuff. It’s such a shame they then brought in Joe to be there for Quinn’s recovery plot and dicthed Artie. And for what? An incredibly boring romance plot that added nothing to either the overall story or Quinn’s character.
It’s just... why not keep Quartie. Whyyy. First off, their shipname is great. And second, when Artie has positive relationships with women, platonic or not, it makes me realize that he’s actually a cool character? Whenever I ranked ND he was always low if not for any other reason then some of his more questionable moments, but more than that I just never grew to care for him. I don’t get quite as pissed off as with some others I talk a lot more about but all in all he was done almost as dirty as Tina. Sure, he sang more, but Artie was pushed aside and not given proper storylines a lot, too.
Here we had a golden opportunity to not just use Quinn’s accident as pure shock value that was then discarded by the end of the season, but to actually explore interesting themes and dynamics. Even just the fact that Quinn and Artie now have this huge thing in common is a really good starting off point, because they’re an unlikely duo but get along so well and have a great time. And Artie is so willing to help Quinn adjust and introduce her to this whole new world, basically, and only wants the best for her by getting her to accept that she might not walk again. She might recover because Glee decided she could lift Santana come Nationals, yeah, but she might not have. And it’s a really interesting conflict to have Quinn at first be content and positive but then lash out when everyone keeps telling her that she’s in denial.
Tumblr media
And their friendship shouldn’t last only as long as Quinn’s paralysis, either. Because they might grow closer only because of the similar situations but they can then remain friends as we see how well they get along. Quinn is effectively out of the show post season 3 anyway but still. The only interaction of theirs I can recall form later seasons is the “drawing your boobs” thing which, yikes, this is exactly why I couldn’t get invested in Artie on first watch.
Idk I just think Quartie are great and an underrated duo who deserved so much more in canon but frankly also deserve more from the fandom. They became one of my favourite friendships even after just one episode, imagine how great they could have been if they weren’t just a one off.

hi lis! hope u are doing okay, another random fact that i just realized about south park because of some posts are the lowkey potential of the tweek and cartman dynamic! i tried to embed the links to the posts for credit? but its basically how chaotic cartman is helps with tweek's anxiety by @hatsunevitu and specially this translation of a comic by @muffin-chan-kaw-blog (basically cartman saying to tweek that, bc he is kenny's replacement, he is going to be his new bff) and imma need a pt.2
Hi anon, I am doing well and I hope you are doing the same! I am so sorry for just now answering these but once again, you have very good taste!
I actually saw both of those posts and I loved them! They were spot on in my opinion and the comic was so cute! And @hatsunevitu, is so cool, they seem really nice!
Carteek as I like to call them is one of my favorite friendships. I'm not going to lie, I used to kind of ship them but I like the idea of a platonic relationship between them much more as of right now. I wrote a whole essay about their relationship based on the little screentime they got together in the show and while I think the logic behind most of what I said is kind of flawed, I think it's still worth sharing.
WHY I THINK CARTEEK IS THE MOST REASNOABLE, HEALTHY CARTMAN SHIP - An Essay
Just a disclaimer, I don't actually think it's the most reasonable/healthy relationship anymore, I don't even think I thought that way when I first wrote it, I was just being dramatic with the title to make it more appealing lol 😂 don't come at me

Ooo wait didn't see the ask game
Uhhh
Hunter?
Neo. Do you realize the floodgates you have just opened?
LUZ! LUZ LUZ LUZ LUZ LUZ!!! Oh my GOD I love his dynamic with Luz. That's his little sister right there! Who saved him from his uncle and helped him realize he was being abused and got him out! I mean of course the others helped as well, but Luz was the one to start him down that path. She was the first one to reach out and connect with him, the first one to actually look at the person beneath the mask. She never stopped trying to reach him and it paid off! And then he turned around to support her when she needed it!
Flapjack. No I am not crying, yes I am okay, shut up. It's just- that was his first real friend. I mean, Flapjack was the first one that Hunter truly trusted, even before he really trusted Luz! Flapjack was just so unconditionally loving towards Hunter, which he really, really needed. Flapjack understood Hunter the best, probably because they shared some sort of mental link. I mean, Flapjack was basically his emotional support animal. And fucking... I just... his death made me not okay.
I'm gonna go with Darius for this one, although my 3 and 4 are basically interchangeable. I mean, I really just love parental dynamics. Enemy to caretaker is a personal favorite trope of mine, I really wish I knew more examples of it. They got so little screentime together and yet I was instantly hooked. Hunter just needs to many parental figures and I love how Darius stepped up to be one of the first. His reaction to finding out Hunter was in the emperor's mind was adorable. I just really like grumpy older men who slowly become attached to a child against their will, okay?
Gus. I think their friendship is adorable. People call them brothers, but honestly I don't really see it? They're really good friends for sure, and they're part of one another's found family, but they're not siblings. Not like him and Luz. I think the episode they had together really was just so sweet. The creators did such a fantastic job of demonstrating both of their traumas and expanding on it. Especially for Gus, who got relegated to the background more often than not. I just think it's so cute how they always have one another's back.
Willow, of course it's gonna be Willow. Gonna be honest with you? Not a huge fan of Huntlow. It's a cute ship, a really cute ship and I'm honestly not sure why I don't like it more than I do, I mean it almost feels tailor-made to suit my tastes. But Idk. Maybe it's because I saw someone headcanoning Hunter as aroace and I latched onto that and refuse to let go. I really love their friendship though. I think "Any Sport in a Storm" is really really cute. And I think their personalities work really well together. I just don't think that it needs to be romantic. Again, no actual problem with the ship, it's cute and I do enjoy the occasional fanart. But overall, it just feels kinda meh to me.

Francis rewrites Gen Y 2
So, a few rules for the rewrite:
I have to stick (generally) to the plotlines set up in the show as it is.
I am not trying to make this a masterpiece, I am trying to make this the dumpster fire I wanted.
I will adhere primarily to Gen Y for characterizations.
I have to try and let this be chaotic.
OKAY.
Main Goals for the rewrite:
Make MarkKit actually make sense.
Add drama to Thanu, Yu, Phai, Sandee, Pa storyline.
Give PokTong more screentime.
Apologize in advance for not knowing how to write more JackKoh into the show because I absolutely cannot write their dynamic, sorry.
Anyway, onto the attempt!
Okay, so the first few episodes are fine. We get the reveal of Pa, the reveal of what Tong did and Pok's anger, we get all that drama to start with and that's all well and good. But then the drama was... so bad.
So, the big change?
After Mark and Kit agree to fake an LDR for the scholarship, there's a change in Pa's condition and he needs to be moved to a different hospital, still in Thailand, but a few hours away. Kit and Yu decide to go with him, Kit out of friendship and to test the idea of an LDR and Yu out of guilt and obligation.
So now... we have actual drama!
Mark and Kit are actually separated, Yu and Thanu genuinely can't just be together. Yu is still uncomfortable with the possibility of Thanu having a 'destiny' with Phai and now he's leaving him alone.
Oh, also, Thanu still has a destiny connection with Phai. It's not love but it's a draw. He can always find him, always knows where he is, always gets drawn to him when they're in the same room. He doesn't love Phai, Phai doesn't want to love him, but they just can't seem to stay away from each other.
Yu is helping Kit take care of Pa and missing Thanu but also realizing that he has to be able to actually exist as a person outside of a relationship because he can see how much Pa lost by giving up their relationship for nothing.
Kit and Mark basically have the same storyline except they don't have to avoid each other because they're in different cities and it's even harder when Kit has his car accident and Mark threatens to drive to him but Kit talks him out of it and it's much higher stakes but also much sweeter because it makes sense.
Meanwhile, in the land of wooden planks, Yu and Thanu are struggling in the long distance a lot more because neither of them can communicate on any level and it's awful and Yu hates it and Thanu hates it but neither of them has any idea why because they're stupid.
This also allows us a lot more time with Pok, Tong, Sandee and Phai because with the couples separated there's a lot more time for other drama! And that includes watching Pok and Tong struggle with their issues and watching Sandee start to learn more about Phai and how he doesn't want to love Thanu.
Pok and Tong are apart and they're both miserable and Tong keeps trying to help Pok without talking to him and Pok keeps feeling like Tong doesn't think he's ever good enough. There're more fights and Tong has a chance to hurt Pok in return (making accusations of what Pok 'wants' from him) and there's just lots of hurt on both side and Sandee is starting to feel guilty because he knows they love each other and that he caused this big fight.
Sandee and Phai start to talk more, about destiny and about love and Phai is constantly trying to convince Sandee to stop trying to set him up with Thanu but Sandee just wants one of his ideas to go right and can't seem to listen, especially as he feels worse and worse watching Pok and Tong fight. He can't give up on both his revenges, he just can't.
And everything comes to the main issues when Pa dies.
Because Thanu rushes to Yu's side and Sandee is pissed but Mark also goes to rush there but Kit is so insecure and worried about the scholarship that he begs him not to go and Mark gets upset because it feels like Kit is already writing their relationship out of the picture. And Sandee, being upset, starts to wind up Pok again until Phai finally drags him away by the ear from the argument.
And then... BAM.
Thanu and Yu are together again and they're awful but at least this time they had to work for it.
Mark drives to the funeral and Kit tries to argue but just breaks down in his arms and lets himself be held and admits that he never wanted the scholarship and Mark feels hurt that Kit couldn't tell him earlier but also understands how scared Kit is of not being good enough.
Phai finally just yells at Sandee about not loving Thanu and loving him instead and shows him the non-destiny tattoo and Sandee's guilt just overwhelms him and he admits to how much he's done to hurt Pok and Tong. Phai promises to help make it right.
So now that ThanuYu and MarkKit are settled, we get into the heavy hitting part of Pok and Tong.
Where Sandee explains to Pok that he still would have gotten into college and Phai talks to Tong about not helping people because he assumes they want his help. They both have a lot of work cut out for them but it helps that Pok and Tong are both desperately in love.
Especially Tong who's terrified that Pok truly hates him. But Pok is also worried that he went too far in anger and can't win Tong back. So they start with little things. Little gifts. Gentle words. Text messages of 'good night' and 'good morning' and they slowly, slowly, find their way back to a balance and to the song and then the talk at the pool.
... Is it perfect? No. But I would watch the FUCK out of this.

The streamlining of Cass has other issues: I DON'T WANT her to get along with Jason BECAUSE of his history with killing. I mean, Dick shows remorse, but Jason? (And I can hear the clickety-clacking about how Jason is an antihero already.) Maybe he does now, he saw a kid who was basically him in a former life, and now he's been rethinking things. But before that? lolnope
I agree with you she shouldn't get along with Jason while he's killing people, I've talked about that before and other Cass fans have as well, but that said, I honestly haven't followed Jason's character post-flashpoint enough to really have much of an opinion on how Cass and Jason's relationship was handled in canon. From my understanding post-flashpoint Jason rarely actually seems to kill people, and has recently had a storyline in which he decided to swear it off. If my impression of that is correct, then in that continuity, honestly, I don't necessarily mind Cass and Jason having a decent relationship in that continuity. Cass has repeatedly shown to get along with people who have sworn off killing, and has, on occassion, been cordial with people who do kill (there's that guy with the wind powers whose name I keep forgetting who was fighting against a government who was massacring his ethnic group, for example, who was Cass's love interest for a short while).
I think what makes preboot Cass and Jason uniquely unlikely to get along with each other is not just the fact that he kills, but also that his reasons for it suck really bad. Jason had the bat ideology and a place in the batfam, but swore it off because he thinks killing is the only way to control Gotham's crime. This is fundamentally counter to everything Cass believes, including her belief in redemption. Like, obviously, I don't think Cass can ever have an uncomplicated relationship with people who kill, but she's been willing to reach out and have relationships with them that aren't just 'drop kicks them off a building'. Jason in particular though would be VERY difficult for her to swallow because he's a corruption of the bat symbol she holds so dear. But in the new continuity, where Jason has currently sworn off killing and killed much less liberally before that? I don't think that version is one Cass can't have a decent relationship with.
That said, I don't disagree that it's a symptom of 'streamlining' Cass, but tbh, it's also a symptom of streamlining Jason, as well as the batfam as a whole. DC has been going hard on the idea of the batfam as a literal family post-flashpoint, likely because they've realized there's a very large audience for it. But like, the batfam just. Doesn't work as a big happy family. 90% of the people in it have baggage with each other and 99% have massive mental health issues that get in the way of healthy relationships. In order to arrive at a 'we have a collective movie night in Wayne Manor' set-up, you need to defang and streamline like, all of them. It's actually really funny to me that DC was handed a perfect opportunity with a complete universe reboot to remove a bunch of baggage and bad blood, but decided to recreate a lot of those events instead. And adding new ones. And keeping loaded character dynamics born from bad blood similar, even without the events that would've lead to that bad blood. But then STILL pretend that these bitches go to a fast food restaurant together lmao.
The result is that a vast majority of the batfam feels like they have much less depth than they did preboot, because the priority is no longer creating strong individual characters, but to create familial/friendly relationships. It's why, though Cass and Steph have had more screentime together post-flashpoint than they did preboot, their relationship feels like a much more shallow gal pal friendship. The difficulties their relationship had (born from them being seperate individual characters with different histories and reactions to it that sometimes clashed) have been entirely erased for a 'let's hug and support each other' relationship.
Like I'm not one of those people that's like 'let characters be dysfunctional together it's so much more interesting than boring bland healthy relationships' or whatever, like to each their own and all that but I've got too many dysfunctional (family) relationships irl for me to have much patience with them in fiction. But you can't just write people as deeply dysfunctional for years and then pretend it didn't happen while not fundamentally changing much character history. Like if you want good dad Bruce PLEASE do that but for the love of god you can't still give all his children massive perfectionist complexes and have him routinely tear them down emotionally and even physically and then pretend that a movie night wouldn't be fraught with tension. All that accomplishes is a flattening of everyone's characters by disregarding logical human emotions.
And if you DO change character history to facilitate better relationships you need to actually replace it with something substantial, otherwise you end up with Wayne Family Adventures or, you know, fanfic.
Anyway TL;DR Cass having a decent relationship with Jason in the post-flashpoint continuity is a symptom of the entire batfam being streamlined to force them into a happy family they have literally never been before and should not be within the canon DC has presented us with.
Also as a last fyi, I don't think it's fair to class Dick as a murderer, since he's killed one (1) person, it was the Joker, in a fit of rage after being lead to believe he'd killed another one of his little brothers, was immediately wracked with guilt once coming to his senses, and also the Joker was resurrected via CPR immediately after. Like man I just don't think that counts, and I very highly doubt Cass would be anything but sympathetic about the situation, especially since it's not like Dick thinks killing is okay, and although he's not AS rigid about it as Bruce or Cass, he very much does believe in and abide by the no killing rule, so like. I really don't see why Cass would have issues with him on that front.

Please Sol saying "I like you.I'm not saying I'm going to do anything, and I know you don't like me" is basically Beau's "it's Jester! I'm not gonna like act on it or anything, and she likes Fjord" gOD and the BACKHUG?!! Fuck. Thank you for introducing me to SolJiwan I'm obsessed lol 🥰 and I really appreciate that they let us feel the tension in the silent moments?? It's soo good😫
gOD right???? the beaujester parallels are. insane. in a way that they're giving me the full catharsis of everything that beaujes COULD have been given their trajectory which was uprooted and discarded for ooc reasons but just the entire dynamic here instead feels. fully realized and allowed to THRIVE w soljiwan!
like you hit it right on the nail w the beau's "its jester! I'm not gonna act on it or anything! she likes fjord..." vs sol's "sorry for liking you. I won't do anything don't worry. and I know you don't like me. but I'm sorry still" (which breaks my heart btw) and like the entire story w jiwan feeling that comphet, jiwan feeling sol's absence and not being able to understand why she is acting this way, when jiwan thinks sol has 'friends' she doesn't know about, when she asks what those two other guys mean to her...
like there is this same undercurrent as like when jester went to apologize to beau for 'not healing her' and even after apologizing she continued to be confused WHY losing beau made her feel so bereft, why when beau asks to room alone Jester's face falls like the SYSTEM SHOCK of it all. like realizing this person you care for deeply in a sense that you can't explain... is actually in love w you and trying their best to not cross a line. jiwan and jester and their way of showing love thru physical intimacy. beau and sol's way of showing love thru acts of service. even in their quiet moments, even when they're in the background their intimacy is never understated it's consistently portrayed!!
the backhug was insane it's such a classic like!! jiwan and comphet and trying to figure out What This Means but not ready to face Sol when she says it... and remember how beaujes backhug early pirate arc was. SUCH a top-tier moment?? soljiwan and beaujes parallels are a gift that keep on giving
and not to mention the way jiwan goes "yun sooooooool!!!!" with her whole heart reminds me so MUCH of jester's special way of saying "bowwwwuuh!!!" it's just. soljiwan remind me so much of beaujester but like. soljiwan can stand on its own in the way it isn't nerfed for het nonsense but thrives on its own bc the het nonsense of this show does not actually concern them AT ALL infact soljiwan is the backbone of the show in terms of how. even in their limited, barely 5mins screentime in each 60min ep... so much of ther story, their relationship and it's complexity is told in such a nuanced way, handled delicately and with care. I love it. I love it so much.

SO I FINALLY FINISHED 5D’S! And what better way to celebrate than to go through my favorite characters as…briefly as I can
Slight spoilers I suppose?
Let’s work it up from 10 to 1
10- Jack
Tumblr media
Was gonna go with lucchiano but who am I kidding Jack’s great. He’s a drama queen with an even more dramatic wardrobe. Never afraid to express himself and just bluntly blurt out what he thought.
His obsession with Cup ramen is on another level but what can I say? Love is love, Jack x cup ramen for life *wipes tears*
But seriously speaking he’s great. His very first line was enough proof of that. He just… apologized for being late then declared “I AM KING” like the…king he is.
My favorite Rival character still remains Manjoume… and… Yeah I still prefer Kaiba over Jack but damn was he a good rival.
Like he has to be the only Rival so far with an actual past with the Main character, no? That was pretty interesting because usually, the protagonist meets the rival somewhere during the first season and we go off from there. But here we had to go through their backstory to know what their relationship was fully like. Nice touch.
9- Aki
Tumblr media
Hands down my favorite female protagonist so far. I adore Anzu and feel neutral enough about Asuka but Aki? NAH MAN AKI’S AMAZING. I think 5D’s just does the best job with its female characters. Like it actually gives them big enough roles. I loved how Aki got her own episodes…be it the D-wheel ones or just… fillers.
Her crush on Yusei was justified, at least it seems so to me, and honestly never got obnoxious. Sure she had a moment here and there but it was honestly never a bad thing. Hell faith shipping in general isn’t exactly a bad Idea.
Speaking of shipping, is anyone going to talk about her little frienshipmaybemore moments with Crow? No? Ok…
But anyway, overall, SHE’S AMAZING AND I LOVE HER. There was more to her than some boring pining love interest and it shows with each episode. So when people say she has a great personality, they’re actually talking about her personality. AKI RULES
8- Mikage
Tumblr media
Would’ve been way WAY higher on the list if the thing with Jack was thrown out the widow.
That being said I think she’s the more mature of the Jack-crazy trio. Like sure she was just as into him as the other two, but in some scenes she was a lot more tolerable.
But that honestly might just be my bias towards this amazing woman speaking.
She’s devoted to her work, gentle, caring, gorgeous and just all around a wonderful character to see.
I loved most of her scenes in the series, and the fact that there was more to her than just the jack part. She actually had an important part to play in many episodes and honestly proved herself to be a very fun character. I just wish they gave a her little more screentime than what she got.
A lot of lost potential there- I mean come on.
7- Rua /Lua
Tumblr media
He reminds me of Judai WAY too much. LIKE WAAAAY too much not to be on this list. The guy’s adorable. And I love how they made him the emotional one. Like they could’ve gone with the “the boy is always rowdy and tOUGH” stereotype, but they didn’t. Sure, ruka (who I don’t like as much) was much more gentle, but it was much easier to see Rua cry than it was to see her do so. It’s just fun is all.
I also adore his deck and that little theme that played whenever he dueled… Plus his relationship with Jack and Yusei…GOLD GOLD.
6- Ushio
I made a whole post about Him, You think he wouldn’t be in my Top 10? Well think again. Great development would see through again.
5- Sherry Leblanc
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SHERRY.
What you just witnessed in the line above is my internal reaction to literally any scene this beautiful badass woman happens to be in.
She’s just amazing. She has this really… tough energy IDK HOW TO DESCRIBE IT BUT SHE’S A REALLY INTIMIDATING WOMAN. But not in a bad way, oh nonononono in a REALLY REALLY GOOD WAY OKAY.
Her character arcs and episodes somehow felt…really separate from the whole team 5D’s shenanigans even though they were basically connected…
Like she had her own motivation that didn’t particularly rely on bonds, but was still willing to accept and even form a bond with the whole team.
Revenge is kinda hot ngl.
Okay no it’s not. But seeing a vengeful character that WASN’T played off as evil or particularly wrong amidst a bunch of friendship is magic ones was pretty refreshing.
The moment she took her helmet off when dueling yusei I was HOOKED and so was Aki but shhhhhh.
But damn I love what they did with her at the end, Rushed as it may have been. It took her joining with Z-one briefly and dueling Aki and Crow ( a very underrated duo btw) to realize that maybe thinking of the past and only the past was not a very good idea.
Anyway love her. And her duels are always a delight to watch.
4- Placido
Tumblr media
Before he showed up, sherry was supposed to be 4th but here we are. Placido Placido Placido. I want to make it clear that…I really couldn’t care less about Aporia as a whole. But Placido and Lucchiano were pretty fun characters.
Now I finally get to talk about my beloved.
This dude was…the biggest mood. EVER.
He would hang up in that third one’s face like it was nothing and constantly ignore his boring ass. Oh. You have a plan? Ok. I don’t care. It’s boring. I’m placido and I’ll do what I want. Kiss my D-wheel ass.
He has a lot of hilariously sassy lines, which include and I quote:
“I don’t know what god wants you to do.”
“But I won’t accept it!”
The guy just does not care and I’m living for it.
Not to mention his bee analogies which- Why have I not seen anyone point out????? BEE ANALOGIES COME ONNNNNNNN
aNYWAY PLACIDO’S GREAT
3- Kiryuu
Tumblr media
Edgy dude with pretty hair. Also gay. Also the crash town arc. Need I say more?
I will anyway.
Honestly dark signer Kiryuu was pretty fun to me with all the crazy laughter and stuff…
Then past/ flashbacks Kiryuu was just as interesting but in a completely different way. Sure he didn’t get as many episodes or screentime as the rest, but what I saw of him was more than enough for me to care about the Character. Like unlike the old satellite gang (Rally and the other two whose names I can’t even remember) I actually gave a shit about this guy when bad stuff happened to him.
Not to mention his growth. Like…He went through reverse/ negative development, then uphill by the end of the signers’ ark with all the…dying in your hands gayly stuff, then downhill again by the beginning of the crosstown arc….aaaaand back up and higher than ever by the end of it. Basically the fact that his development wasn’t always constant just added some spice.
Plus his dynamic with his ex-teammates…team….satisfaction (Try saying that with a straight face) was always pretty entertaining, especially his with Yusei.
Speaking of which...
2- Yusei
Tumblr media
With all my talk about him…and…my profile picture…and URL, it may come as a surprise that he’s not number 1 here, but honestly it’s so close you could call it a tie.
As for why I love him….Have you- Have you seen my blog????? Do I even..need to say anything????
1- Crow
Tumblr media
Now there’s a lot I have to say about Crow honestly hE’S JUST THAT COOL, but I’m saving it to talk about later still. All I’ll say for now is this:
Flashy guy with an amazing sense of style, an earring and an incredible amount of cockiness and charisma. What’s not to like?

guys oh my GOD i just found my newsies rants from the first BIG night of my hyperfixation and. hng. there's so much good content in here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
*messages copy and pasted under the cut!
NOTE: all of these messages are from April 19, 2020- the first day of my newsies hyperfixation!
listen racetrack and crutchie are some of my babes and i fucking love them
BEN TYLER COOK IS THE ONLY VALID RACETRACK AND I DESPERATELY NEED THEM TO REDO THE CAST ALBUM TO GIVE HIM THE SPOTLIGHT HE DESERVES
I CANT LISTEN TO KING OF NEW YORK ANYMORE BECAUSE. IT ISNT RACE. dont get me wrong racetrack from the soundtrack is like. really good but he ain't livesies racetrack good
also everyone ships race and spot which is valid but idk I just feel like race and albert have more in common?? like. spot is a great character and all of the Brooklyn Newsies deserve so much more screentime and so much more content but i just feel like the only reason people like race × spot is because of the Inner-Bourough Relations and the territorial stuff (bc the brooklyn bois are pretty spooky) but race × albert is so much cuter ?? like they're both Manhattan newsies and they share a lot more screentime and they have a lot more in common and like !! their interactions throughout King of New York makes me cry so hard i love them so much
something is telling me that if i dont learn All Of The Newsies by tomorrow i'm gonna scream
so i think later today i'm gonna rewatch livesies, then watch 92sies, then make myself a google slides presentation with a pic of each newsie and their name so i can figure this shit out
JACK AND CRUTCHIE ARE BROTHERS BUT WE STILL STAN THAT JACK/RACETRACK DYNAMIC
if anyone tries to tell me that racetrack ain't Jack's #2 Dude i WILL bite i dont care
like??? we literally see race kinda take charge after the bulls bust up their strike and jack fucks off to be Emo On The Rooftop (which is still valid and i love him for it) but race steps in and lifts everyone's spirits again and god i love him for it
it's real "Loving Racetrack Higgins Hours"
OH OH OKAY SO THE EMO ROOFTOP SCENE
LIKE. FUCK. people kinda got on Jack's case for leaving after the big fight breaks out and the bulls take Crutchie, but what else can he do? jack is 17. he's scared. he's dealing with his own trauma after what happened to him at The Refuge (which is never explicitly stated, but his reaction leads me to believe there was definitely some kind of ab•se (and its canon that the officers at the refuge don't feed the kids as they should)). he's seen as the tough guy, as the leader, as the father figure for all of the newsies, but he's a kid. he put his life on the line for them, but that's too much responsibility for a teenager.
jack got thrown in the refuge- a jail for kids- because he stole food and clothing for the other boys. he did everything he did for everyone else, without ever taking his own feelings into consideration; it was never a case of "what's in it for me?", it was always "will this help the guys i love?" and that is Jack's biggest quality i think.
anyway- so, he disappears after the fight because he's guilty. he watch his best friend- no, his brother- get taken by the bulls and watched the others he loves get hurt, and he couldn't stop it. again, this is a 17 year old we're talking about. his whole Santa Fe scene is the most pivotal part of the show in my opinion? like- we see Jack having a breakdown, essentially. "just be real is all i'm askin', not some paintin' in my head" is such a painful line because he's holding onto the hope that somewhere he's never seen is good enough to risk leaving his life behind for, and we see the struggles between wanting to stay and help his friends and wanting to get out and live and be able to have a life where he doesn't have to live with such a huge responsibility on his shoulders.
ALSO THE WHOLE THING WITH THE GUYS THINKING JACK IS A SELLOUT BECAUSE HE GOT MONEY FOR TRYING TO CONVINCE THE NEWSIES NOT TO CONTINUE THE STRIKE HURTS MY HEART
like Pulitzer basically said "if you don't tell them to stop this, i'll personally make sure all of them end up in the refuge" and even used Davey as a plot device, since Davey is one of the few that has folks and a little brother, and Pulitzer essentially said "you wouldn't want your pal Davey getting separated from his family, would you?"
Jack believed in the Strike, and he believed in the Newsies, but he couldn't handle the risk of more of his family getting beaten and thrown into The Refuge, and it kills me to see that he couldn't tell the others why he suddenly had a "change of heart", and that they all think that jw just gave up on them until they realize later on that Pulitzer manipulated him right where it hurt most
I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT NEWSIES AND NO ONE TO TALK ABOUT IT WITH SO UH,, IM SORRY YOU GUYS GET THE SHORT END OF THE STICK
listen i could write an entire essay over Santa Fe and i love that song and it's just such an iconic "I Want" song and !!! fuck !!!!!! it's so sad but it bops!!!!!
"folks are fightin, bleedin, fallin, thanks to good old Captain Jack! Captain Jack just wants to close his eyes and GO"
and then theres a really long pause and his voice cracks and the next line just ?? hurts me ??
"let me go, far away, somewhere they won't never find me, and tomorrow won't remind me of today"
HE'S SO SAD AND STRESSED AND HURT AND GUILTY AND JUST WANTS TO LEAVE THE SITUATION TO PREVENT ANYMORE BAD THINFS FROM HAPPENING ADN I JUST WISH I COULD HUG HIM
i just realized ive been ranting for 30 minutes i love u all goodnight

Hello, I just found your blog and I like it very much, it’s very interesting to read!!!. My question is : what is your opinion on Ahmed and Kosem’s relationship? Do you think he truly loves her? What do you think about him seeing other women? And what do you think about his relationship with these women (Mahfiruz, Katerina, Gulbahar and Yasemin).
Thank you for liking my stuff!
I think that, just like Süleiman, Ahmet loves Kösem in his own way. It's not as toxic or problematic or often questionable writing-wise as Süleiman's love for Hürrem, but it still has both its ups and downs that make it interesting to explore.
Ahmet and Kösem is perhaps the love story where the writers made the most effort to mask the possible worse aspects of. It could even be considered actually romantic at points, with their amazing first scenes in the gardens and the amazing chemistry of Ekin Koç and Anastasia Tsilimpou, the beginning sense of wonder and "mystery" it started out with.... when she first met him, Anastasia didn't know he was the sultan and put all her trust in him - a certainly good first impression. Ahmet himself is also very far from Süleiman's direct endeavors and tests of loyalty, he tries his best to be respectful in his own way, despite that he fails to do that a bunch of times. That's why it's easy to miss the darker aspects of the relationship at first and it could be perceived as probably the only thing in the franchise that is remotely close to a "fairytale" of sorts.
However, when the curtains start to fall slowly, but surely, we come to realize that while, say, Hürrem learns to want what Süleiman wants, to be fully loyal to him and to cave to his demands just like he often caves to her own, Ahmet and Kösem as characters have entirely different values and needs throughout their whole relationship. The fact that Ahmet wanted Anastasia because of a picture, without him having ever met her, is incredibly telling: he has created an ideal of her in his own head from the start and he wants to consistently maintain it. When he's with her, it's as if he's living his own dream, his own perfect world that has place only for him and that young girl. (that's why the garden is so symbolic: Ahmet calls it a place of solitude, only for himself almost immediately after the audience is introduced to it; also that line from him: "The world is on one side, Kösem - on the other." - quoting by memory again, but the meaning is the same) Their world views gained from their past and present environments begin to clash from the moment she finds out he's a Sultan - she wants to desperately go back to her family, both because all of them are still alive and her free spirit that cannot bear to live in this golden cage. Ahmet doesn't let her go also because he lacks the understanding of this desire: he has grown in the strict Ottoman system and having people like Anastasia stay in the harem forever is something he finds perfectly natural; for him it's unthinkable to stand against it. But despite of that "minor offense", Ahmet's idea of Anastasia's "purity" and "perfection" was working for awhile, with her seeming to meet his expectations and slowly warm up to him. But the real truth is way stronger than your own made-up lies. Anastasia's pleas to let her go only get stronger until they reach their climax with her attempt to escape. And you know what? If it weren't for her contrived, yet convenient excuse to come back to him, he would've lost her. Helplessly, in a blink of an eye, he would've lost her, due to what she sees as sheer ignorance from his part. And when she gains her own bit of agency later in the season and becomes Kösem, when she develops and realizes the actual stakes of the game, beginning to play it herself due to survival by default and the will for revenge, Ahmet's "perfect picture" breaks apart and that apparently hurt him so much, he stayed mad at her for quite some time. This wasn't the person he knew and loved anymore, this was an entirely new, reborn woman. He didn't seem to love and respect her for the virtues she actually possessed, but for those that he had imagined her to always have in his head. That is another, more "subtle" level of toxicity than with Hürrem and Süleiman, but it's still toxicity, that's why this relationship is far from healthy and the "beautiful, but quirky" dynamic it sets the impression of.
Kösem's view of Ahmet is very interesting and complex, writing-wise. I actually don't think she grew to love him as much. The place she forcibly got in made her feel very limited by him mostly, since he was the reason she was here in the first place and he was calling the shots in terms of her future (whether she would visit her family or not?). What made her become a bit affectionate wasn't fully him himself, but rather the oh-so-prominent theme of adaption in the harem. She wanted to escape so desperately, but there were so many happenings and situations during the time she was in the harem that just demanded for her to get used to everything. So when Iskender gave her the chance to escape, she as become used to the harem's environment so much, she felt unsure of herself outside of it. Her return was out of necessity rather than love and even her standing up to the people when Ahmet was sick was done out of necessity, too (like I elaborated in another ask about Kösem). I'm not saying that she didn't feel any affection whatsoever, but the affection she felt for him was easy to let go of (E25: "Today I didn't marry only Sultan Ahmet, I married the country!"), because I don't think Ahmet did his best efforts to understand her and I don't think Kösem felt completely comfortable around him, all that contrasted with Kemankeş in S02, who according to her, understands her better than anyone ever could.
Ahmet loves Kösem, because even after his perfect picture with her was broken and his anger and denial and refusal to accept it passed, he did try to make things better. What I loved most about his dynamic with Kösem, is his open honesty with her that continued till the end. There have been scenes where they seemed like true companions, especially their beginning one in E21 with all the kids gathered around them. I loved that despite of his mistakes, he did try to set things right. There was this sudden protectiveness that activated in him when Kösem told him the truth about the death of his father and why she acted the way she did and that could mean she now became something of a "cinnamon roll he just protect" and that is certainly a flawed mindset to have in many aspects, but that showed he could actually care for her beyond his idealistic perspective of her.
Am I okay with Ahmet having other women? Honestly, I'm glad that MCK lowered the concubine arcs to a minimum and with the way they did it, it doesn't offend me as much. I would even love some of them to be more developed for a change, because they did turn out to be solely drama tools, thanks to their lesser episodes and MCK's different themes as a whole, that basically did their purpose and left, instead of stretch out and outstay their welcome and that is just the other extreme in a bad disguise.
I won't talk about the relationship he had with his other women as much, because they just aren't fleshed out. I would've liked to see more of Ahmet and Mahfiruze: I believe he was way more decent with her than say, Süleiman was with Mahidevran, and their scenes weren't half bad. Too bad that would've demanded Mahfiruze herself to be fleshed out more as a character and the writers to give her more of a place in the narrative. Katerina was present only for an episode (or was it two episodes?) and we don't have as much conclusions to drive here. We only have his mild infatuation with her and... that's it? We have no idea what Katerina actually felt or how their dynamic would play out in the long run. We can only speculate. Gülbahar, by contrast, also had the least screentime of all his women who have comparatively minimal screentime, but her exploration in S02 helps us gain a better idea of how it went between them. I have the impression that she was the least favourite concubine of Ahmet's, ever. She did succeed to get pregnant and have a child, but it probably was a one and done thing and she didn't seem to get any other grasp of manly affection since then. Which is why, along with them taking away Bayezid from her by exiling her, she was so focused on scheming for one particular goal and this became what defined her. But then again, that is still a speculation in my part. Now, with Yasemin we have much more on-screen chemistry and interaction: that relationship felt very similar with what Süleiman thought of Firuze - infatuation, massive infatuation, but still not love, because just like Firuze, Yasemin also gave him poison and we don't know how much the poison affected his psyche, along with the sickness it brought upon him. These relationships have the opposite problem MC's concubine arcs had: these women were all unfavored or favored very temporarily in the span of an episode or two, which made them very stale and lacking in material.
Lastly, while MCK in its entirety, isn't very big on love stories, Kösem and Ahmet's relationship still had an evolution throughout S01, even if that evolution was more "condensed" than the others similar to it. It still remains the most fleshed out love story in the show, along with Kösem and Kemankeş's, and it was a very important part of the story that helped shape much of the narrative that succeeds it.

Scenes in WKBZ that parallel each other
I’ve noticed that several scenes in the show reference a former one. Again, these are pretty cool details, I think. Probably there are even more parallels, but here are some of the ones I could find. (spoiler warning)
Christiane’s letter for Matze and Axel’s letter for Christiane
In the letter Christiane writes Matze, she says that she likes him more than she has ever liked anyone else. And many episodes later in Axels letter for her he says that he loves her like he has never loved anyone before.
I think this was probably intentional and it’s interesting to think about what this parallel means. Because it definitely shows that Axel and Christiane were similar in how they chose to express their emotions, how they worded and experienced their affection for someone else. But was that a way the show tried to convey that Axel and Christiane would have been a “better” couple than her and Benno? Because this is hinted at several other times - even by Christiane herself when she says to Benno that Axel always let her do H first. I’m not sure, because it doesn’t seem to me like Christiane was into Axel. But maybe after reading his letter she regretted that she never gave him a chance, a thought fueled by the finality of his death?
Michi and Babsi making each other join the group when they feel like outsiders
When the group first meets Babsi in the subway, it’s mostly Michi who integrates her. He’s the one to ask who she is and explicitly invites her to join them when they all start making a beat. That’s very uncommon for Michi, who is typically emotionally cold towards new people. But in this case he basically broke the ice when Babsi was a bit awkward among all these people she didn’t know and that already were a friend group. And in episode 6 when they’re all at Axel’s, Michi is in a situation where he feels uncomfortable and left out, because Benno and Christiane are clean all of a sudden and want to got to Paris, which obviously upsets him. When they all decide to make a pact to get clean as well, he is the last one to join and he only does so because Babsi pulls him up and places his hand on the others’.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: This friendship deserved proper development and screentime. These are literally the only scenes in which the two interact with each other noticeably (besides Babsi painting his nails maybe), yet in my opinion they suggest that there was a bond between them. The main reason why I imagine their dynamic to have been special is that they are so different: Michi is trying to be the toughest of all and Babsi was an openly soft and emotional person, the youngest one of them. I can imagine that Michi had something of a soft spot for her, almost like a younger sister, because we know that Michi can be extremely caring for the people he likes. I wish there had been a scene where he reacts emotionally upon hearing about her death. But well, there are many scenes I would have loved to see regarding his character.
Axel and Babsi’s grandma
Prior to Axel’s death in the same episode, Babsi’s grandma faints, just like Axel is seemingly unconcious in the morning as well. However, sadly, he doesn’t wake up again.
I’m sure this was intentional, because scenes of Axel are intertwined with the scenes of the grandma in the beginning of the episode already. It therefore foreshadowed his death. Also, another reason for this parallel was probably Babsi’s reaction, because after Axel’s death she lays down next to her grandma, not only searching for solace, but probably also because she realized how close she was to losing her as well. She was the one who seemed to be touched by Axel’s death most, so all of this fits together very well. Another reason for this similarity of the scenes is probably the tragedy behind them: Axel was so much younger than the grandma, yet he died while she lived on. So this scene comparison shows how terrible the effects of drugs really are.
Passing each other at the Bahnhof Zoo
In the beginning there are these scenes in which first Stella and Babsi and then Christiane and Michi / Benno and Axel randomly pass each other when they don’t know each other yet. The same thing happens with Christiane and Michi in the last episode, when she’s leaving Berlin again and he arrives with Andre, the Czech cop.
This reference was probably brought up in the last episode again to convey two things: 1) That the friend group is ultimately destroyed. Sure, Christiane and Michi never liked each other, but they were still part of the same group. In the end, they’re strangers again and don’t notice each other. And the others aren’t even there, showing that the events took their toll on the characters: The close bonds they once had don’t exist anymore, they all have individual lives now or lost their life. 2) That Michi and Christiane got out of their addiction. In the first episode when they’re all at the Bahnhof Zoo, they are there for, well, normal reasons why one would be at a train station. But during the main course of the series the Bahnhof Zoo represents all their misery: They go there to buy drugs, to do drugs and to prostitute themselves. In the last episode, Michi and Christiane are both there as normal travelers again, showing that they got out of their addiction and everything related to it.
