I love your writing so much and honestly want to ask you every question on the book meme lol. Would you mind answering 1, 17, and 27?
do u prefer a standalone or a series?
standalone, because way too many YA books that should have at most been duologies got dragged into trilogies in the 2010s (publisher greed, trends, wanting to be the next big trilogy smash hit) and thus we had weak flaccid second books with slumping plots, contrived problems and an author trying to stall some big reveal before the third one. i'd rather read one longer book than a whole ass trilogy. fantasy and sci-fi i don't mind if they do series but the genre conventions lends itself to it better.
a book to get u out of a reading slump?
i have a few more that got me out of a slump to add:
the secret history, donna tartt
annihilation, jeff vandermeer
station eleven, emily st john mandel
such a fun age, kiley reid
luster, raven leilani
my lesbian experience with loneliness, kabi nagata
a 'fanfiction' trope that u like to see in books?
few. fanfiction tendencies are already showing up in books and not a lot of them have translated well. i can tell when the author was a fic writer based on how their characters interact in "funny relatable ways" and it makes me grimace.
but. i would like more shamelessly steamy and wild sex scenes with less cringe writing.
this is my hubris from growing up as a writer on haruki murakami's bad sex scenes and now thinking i want to do that mix of supernatural, lonely humans seeking connection and rawdog horny. (i don't particularly like murakami anymore. but he was formative the years i read him, and his way of doing supernatural themes still hang around in my mind.)

On Tenderness in Fiction
Excerpted from the December Fiction newsletter for Writers.com. Enjoy!
Short Story Recommendation: “Confessions of a Shinagawa Monkey” by Haruki Murakami
Read it here, in The New Yorker.
This story is peak Murakami—a Japanese author who often straddles the border of Surrealism and Magical Realism. In this story, the narrator meets a talking monkey who has the ability to steal the names of women he loves. For most authors, this story would sound impossibly silly. For Murakami, it's so believable, you might meet this monkey tomorrow.
In speculative stories like this one, the intrusion of the fantastical into everyday life often acts as a metaphor for something. Only this name-stealing monkey—who himself was not born with a name—is "out of place" in an otherwise normal world. What does he represent? How should we understand him vis-a-vis the unnamed narrator? And what makes this story so successful?
Pay attention to the narrator, how he seems to be a vessel for the story's oddities. But wait, shouldn't all characters be unique, believable people? Certainly—and this one is, too. We learn a lot about this narrator based on the questions he asks the monkey. It's never stated, but the narrator also seems to be a lonely person. Why else would his line of questioning veer so quickly into matters of the heart? Why else would he believe something so impossible—that a monkey can steal a woman's name, fold it into his own heart in such a way that she forgets the word people call her?
I think we learn the most about the narrator when he says this:
"Theme? Can’t say there is one. It’s just about an old monkey who speaks human language, who scrubs guests’ backs in the hot springs in a tiny town in Gunma Prefecture, who enjoys cold beer, falls in love with human women, and steals their names. Where’s the theme in that? Or the moral?"
This kind of meta-commentary rarely flies in fiction. Here, it works, because the narrator isn't realizing how much the monkey's story reflects his own psyche. Great fiction, particularly surrealism, does this: reveals the landscape of a character's personality.
I would argue that there is a theme here, though a lot of it comes down to the reader's own interpretation. I think that the monkey is a character that many readers can relate to: unable to find love among his own species, and incapable of being loved by any other, he resorts to desperate measures to keep his own heart warm. Sure, he feels guilty about hurting some of the women whose names he's stolen, but what would happen to his own heart if he didn't steal them? What do we do, as people, when we don't feel loved and accepted, to fill the time between now and when we'll finally belong? To go on living despite one's existential loneliness is no mean feat, and though we try to carry on while causing as little harm as possible, survival always requires sacrifice.
Of course, the monkey might represent something entirely different to you. That's the power of fantastic fiction, such as this: its metaphors are like jewels spinning in the light, showing us something different each time we look at it.
Notes on “Storytelling and the Art of Tenderness” by Maria Popova
Storytelling is sometimes described as a type of empathy work. In her acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize in Literature, Olga Tokarczuk takes this a step further, describing storytelling as an inquiry into tenderness—the type of selfless love that connects us to one another, or even connects our humanity to the universe around us.
Tokarczuk writes that there is an "endless system of similarities" between ourselves and the world around us. This is the case at both a micro- and macroscopic scale. It's true: societies flourish like bacteria in petri dishes, and our own brains resemble the connections of galaxies when we zoom out far, far away. This act of metaphor, this meaning-making is hardwired into our psychologies. What's more, it's at the core of literature.
Our instructor Jeff Lyons describes a story as "the combination and interplay of character and plot that is a metaphor for a human experience leading to emotional change." So, a story is a metaphor, and a metaphor is an act of tenderness, finding selfless connection between two seemingly discrete things.
Stories are bridges connecting us to our shared humanity—and beyond. In Murakami's story, the narrator's attention to the monkey's strange story is also a form of tenderness. And, that monkey's story being a metaphor for our own loneliness is Murakami's way of reaching into the void and there, somehow, touching us.
Why do we tell stories? No two writers have the same reason, and I doubt that "tenderness" is the word that comes to mind for many of us. Nonetheless, tenderness is at the core of this work—both the work of writing and the work of reading. if you're stuck on where to take your story next, or even where to begin, imagine your pen reaching into the murky stillness of the universe, and touching someone on the other side.

rant & slight idolish7 spoilers warning !!!!!
i verbally cannot describe how much comfort i7 brings me, genuinely. no matter how many times i watch it i just dont get bored of it, instead i notice new details and see new meanings behind certain words, scenes and actions. i love the characters so much ... theyre just so ... so adorable and relatable, you cant avoid them growing on you. the songs too !!!! the songs and characters make me so so happy, i adore them !
sogo and his violent impulses 😭 its always the quiet and composed people i swear. him collapsing from stress is very relatable. i admire his reasoning for doing music, i wish i had the same resolve HAHAHA except i vant even bring myself to tinker with my piano anymore :,)
tamaki and his childishness. it might be annoying to some, and he is very hard to deal with for sogo, but i think its endearing. hes self aware about being a bit on the dumber side but still tries his best .. i just wanna give him a hug and headpats and i hope he and aya get to be together again soon :( let the siblings be happy fr ...
yamato and his sincere want for the others to be happy and successful. what started out as a revenge mission became genuine affection toward the other 6 and i think thats amazing. he just gradually took on the role of the older brother/tired dad without even realizing and now hes stuck with them doing his best to ensure their happiness because he genuinely loves them :(
nagi and his comedic relief and wise moments ! i think nagi is reduced to simply comedic relief by most as he is just a silly pretty boy 80% of the time but hes actually very smart and theres so much we still dont know about him !! i sure hope we get some insights to him soon. and haruki aswell !!! i need to know more abt their friendship and the songs and everything !!
iori and his cute traits. he may be the youngest but he acts like the most mature (after yamato and sogo ofc) and his sincere want to ensure the success of i7 is admirable if im being honest. i adore his less composed moments though! makes me realize even picture perfect people have their quirks :) i love his friendly banters with riku and how he likes cute things and stationary and how he takes care of riku and mitsuki and and i love iori a normal amount i promise
riku and his sincerity. whatever hes feeling, you can just tell. hes so easy to take care of and while he might be insecure, hes really what holds them all together. he just shines as their center and hes so precious and his energy just makes you all warm n fuzzy and his smile just radiates joy and . i wish i could keep him in my pockets and carry him around.
mitsuki and the way i relate to him. the insecurities and being swallowed by them, running away from my problems and being the 2nd choice or not even a choice at all, not feeling good enough and just being average at everything i do, always being outshined and everything. hes so effortlessly funny and precious and i love his energy and his pretty smile and the way hes just so .. sunshine. yknow? i kin him can you tell
i could talk about i7 for ages but this is tumblr and not a fic so nobody will read it anyway HAHAHA i feel like im writing a diary entry or something. i could go on and on about how happy this show makes me even if i cry because of those specific mezzo n mitsuki insecure arcs but im gonna keep it short for this post haha
sorry i nerded out on the tl! if you read this i hope i piqued your interest in i7 (if i didnt still thank you for reading!) and if you didnt i hopr you have a great day after scrolling /gen
maybe one day when someone asks me abt i7 irl ill go on a longer rant and my eyes will sparkle and ill wave my hands around animatedly while talking about the show but then ill realize im rambling and im probably annoying and theyre not really interested but theyll be looking at me and asking me why i stopped talking except that wont happen bc fics arent real and i genuinely am annoying to most people HAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!!!

My Favorite Retro Hedgehog Girl Media
Friend to and influenced by the Teenage Girl in her Twenties, on-and-off dating The Burnt Out Gifted Kid, and younger sister to The Frazzled English Woman, The Retro Hedgehog Girl feels she's too soft to live in this world, and that too much has happened already and that it's too late now. She's just another lost, directionless, broke twentysomething with a million passions who couldn't imagine picking one thing to do every single day for the next 50 years. She doesn't know where all her time goes. She desperately wants to change, but doesn't know how.
She's the perfect example of the hedgehog's dilemma. She's well aware of her self-destructive tendencies, but feels can't find a way to move past them. She's lonely but pushes people away. She loves fiercely but doesn't know how to express it. She does her best to be honest but her words never come out like she meant them. She doesn't feel at home around anyone. She doesn't know what to say when people ask her questions about herself. She's self-centered and sees everything as a personal attack. Sometimes she picks fights with people she cares about, though she doesn't know why. She's prideful, irritable, and has a quick temper. She lashes out when she feels hurt or abandoned or insecure and immediately regrets it but doesn't know how to fix it.
During the week, she lives in secondhand loafers and wrap dresses, and, in the bitter winters, always wears the same worn but reliable, hand-me-down, old-fashioned coat inherited from an estranged relative. When she doesn't have work, she wears jeans, an oversize sweater and the converse she's had since high school. She sometimes romanticizes her life by poking fun at the way she always spends her dead-end, minimum wage job's paycheck on things she doesn't need, but she knows she has a real problem. She loves to shop so she has an excuse to leave her house and be around other people without it being too obvious.
She craves excitement and passion and experiences, she wants to go everywhere and do everything and be everyone. She dreads the though of living a quite life forever. She's terrified of spending the rest of her life feeling this way. She wants to be okay on her own, but thinks its impossible.
The movies and T.V. shows she watches over and over. She seeks out characters that she can relate to:
Girls
Search Party
Shrill
My Mad Fat Diary
Fleabag
I Am Not Okay With This and The End of the Fucking World
In My Skin
Extraordinary
Normal People
Pure
Emily the Criminal
Some Freaks
Winter's Bone
Lady Bird and Frances Ha
The Lure
Speak
Amelie
Jamie Marks is Dead
Pretty in Pink
Yes, God, Yes
On the Edge
True Things
Secretary
I'm Your Man
The books she's read a million times:
A Room with a View by E.M. Forster
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret and Forever by Judy Blume
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby
Martita, te Recuerdo/Martita, I Remember You by Sandra Cisneros
Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell
Anxious People by Frederick Backman
The songs that used to make her dance like she was possessed or cry like she'd never stop but have lost their power through overuse. She wants to branch out more and find new music, but she just can't get really, really excited about anything like she used to anymore:
Flower and Canary by Liz Phair
Paper Bag and Love Ridden and Valentine by Fiona Apple

Sputnik Sweetheart
On Sunday afternoon in Starbucks, a friend of mine said she was interested in reading Haruki Murakami's Sputnik Sweetheart because of its opening sentence. When I saw it, I too was sold by its first sentence.
Tumblr media
Not only a great first sentence but also an interesting first paragraph. What made it more interesting, this Sumire's love interest is a woman. An older, married woman. Murakami, you did it with this one.
There's that magical, strange feeling every time you read Murakami. As much as I hate some unnecessary description (I think) he did, can't lie I've fallen in love with the way he told stories.
This one also did it to me. I love how the characters are relatable to me. Sumire is relatable to me. I saw myself in Sumire. I was her when I had a crush, I was her when I questioned a lot of things in my life, I was her when I fell in love.
Tumblr media
Sputnik Sweetheart, and the back story of why is it called Sputnik Sweetheart is something I love too (I'm an easily impressed person).
Tumblr media
And one couldn't read Murakami without discussing and diving deeper into it once they finished reading. Since my reading buddy doesn't wanna talk to me for *looking at the calendar* three years now, I have no one to talk to about it, and to Reddit I go.
I always have the funniest feeling when I read a book and it relates quite a lot to me since not only do I relate to the characters, but the whole theme also hit quite close to home?
Tumblr media
Couldn't word it better myself but this was a perfect interpretation of the whole book.
Oh, the book is just hauntingly beautiful. I haven't quite moved on from this, even though I have started reading a new one. Might do a re-read somewhere in the future. I used to recommend people to read Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage if they want to start reading Murakami's works. However now, it's this one. And it easily became my top favorite too.

2023/06/28 English
BGM: Reel Big Fish - Take On Me
It was a day off. This morning I had an online meeting of English conversation as usual on Wednesday. We used a few idioms and made various sentences in English. One of them was "I'm filled with". I made a little bit controversial one as "I'm filled with sadness when I hear the sad news about war" (Oh my gosh!). Although I have had a difficulty to listen to the English an Indian member speaks (because of his accent/dialect), but I am getting to used to his English little by little. I guess this is a kind of progress (I say that MY English must have a certain strange Japanese dialect). I talked about the fact that I had neve been out of Japan, and was having an interest in Hong Kong and Taiwan (great foods and their unique cultures), then other members suggested me a lot. I'm grateful about that. It had moved me a lot so I wrote to the host person like this in English. "I'm filled with happiness right now". She showed her smiling as a response. It has been also grateful for me.
"Smiling"... and I notice that I have such an unique sense of humor certainly. I was born in Hyogo prefecture, the West region of Japan. Probably because of that, in other words because "kansai" area's air, water, and foods have brought me like this, I have been keeping this sense of humor. Indeed, I am basically a negative/pessimistic person with a hentai mind. But somewhere in my mind I believe the power of humor which makes us smile/grin. I confess this... When I was a teenager, I had various heroes in my mind. Haruki Murakami and Motoyuki Shibata (a great translator who has introduced a lot of modern English literature works). And also Flipper's Guitar. But also, I have respected Sanma Akashiya. Have you ever heard a Japanese famous comedian/talk show host, Sanma? I had kept recording his TV shows and radio programs with a lot of tapes, and enjoyed them during the way to the high school. But I couldn't understand later era's comedy. Down Town and Ucchan Nanchan... (But Hitoshi Matsumoto, another legendary comedian/creator in Japan had influenced me a lot. This is another fact. He had taught me how important to keep an independent spirit in oneself).
This afternoon, after having sandwiches I enjoyed taking a nap. And I started completing a paper I had to do by last Sunday. In short, it has gone beyond the deadline too much... and I thought I wanted to give up completely (SORRY!). But I finished writing it. If I do this kind of things with the spirit of "Anyway, I do!", then the motivation in me will follow me automatically/naturally. I sent that via e-mails to my friends. After that, I spent the time with chatting on Discord, and also enjoyed reading Steven Millhauser's "Portrait of a Romantic" a little. And... OH NO! I had forgotten the book about adult gifted people I had been reading. Yes, this is my life. My life doesn't work effectively with doing anything. Maybe it is related with autism... I am not good at keep on doing one thing steadily. My mood changes unstably. I do what I want next to next. My interest moves from here to there... and at the end I take nothing. Therefore I wonder why this journal has been kept writing by now. It must be a miracle. You might feel suspicious... But if anything in me start working, then I can't stop the thing I have kept on doing.
This evening I had the "danshu" meeting. A person from the hospital in Himeji taught us about "WRAP". "WRAP" means "Wellness Recovery Action Plan". In other words, it suggest us to do the trial of making our "manuals". How to do manage ourselves? You had better writing those clues of yourselves on papers. "When do I feel cheerful?", "When am I in a good mood?", "When am I happy?" etc. And also, We write the triggers as "What would make me/us down?". After those tasks, we should read those manuals if we were in any bad state/unhappy situation. You also have to make trustable friends/members of your families that manual. I thought I should write my manual and show it to my job coach, and my staff of group home. After that presentation, we confessed our stories as usual so I talked about my dream. My dream... I want to be a bridge person who connects this town and the world. Indeed, you may say that "look at yourself again" and "stay awake". And that's right. I need to learn more. English, common sense of this world... But other members said to me as "Good luck!". I am grateful for that. What should I say? I might have to say to them "You too". Life goes on.

Also stopped in on an English book sale at Kinokuniya.
It was fun, but I struggled to find something to buy. Modern trends in literature treat any sentence longer than eight words as purple prose. I'm so sick and tired of writing that just states and never conveys. Let me feel something! Let writing be artistic.
I feel like so many modern writers rely on first person POV to do all the emotional heavy lifting. There are many very good books in first person that I love. But I think some writers who use it don't know why they're using it: they just know it's trendy. There's more to first person than just writing "I" a lot.
And I don't need to be slammed in the face with flowery emptiness, but I do hate the current popularity of the minimalist approach. It can be useful when the purpose is to create distance between readers and characters, or reflect the characters' apathy for life. But I swear it's just everywhere now. I read a book jacket and it's some version of "After losing her job, Sarah is forced to move back home to quiet Nowheresville, Washington, but her world turns upside down when upon arrival she's accused of murder." And then I start reading and can't care about Sarah at all. Midway through she could disappear from the text and I wouldn't even miss her. Too bland to remember. A murder can't make a character interesting. Only the text can do that.
Speaking of murder. The other reason I struggled to find a book was because everything was about a murder! Or a war, especially a fantasy war. Even books that weren't thrillers had some deadly "thrill" involved. I love action stories and thrillers, and most stories need a plot, but my gosh, can no one think of anything else to write about it? Once again it seems like a go-to "This will hook the audience!" but it fails to hook me. Every hero is jaded, every heroine is strong, every dead person is more interesting dead than alive, and all are forgettable to me.
So what I ended up buying was Heaven by Kawakami Mieko. And the reason I bought it was because I opened it and instantly felt I could relate to the characters. Their emotions hit me on the page without melodrama. I know your capacity for that is a matter of taste, trend, and culture. It's not like there's a true right and wrong in terms of how much emotion is too much (or too little). And while it might be tempting to say it's because "women's writing is emotional, and men's writing is about action," it's clearly not true. No one can read Goethe or Kafka - let's not even get started with poets - and come to that conclusion. If anything, it's about trends in men's writing, which are no more than trends. It's incredibly silly to say women's writing is bad because it doesn't follow the trend in men's, especially since when things trend the other way, we'll get some variation of "men have more emotional depth than women who are just hysterical." Seriously, there is nothing you can do as a woman to "win" through the lens of patriarchy. Don't even bother.
I've just begun the book, so I can't say for sure what I'll think of Kawakami in the end. Obviously, this book is translated, but a good translation reflects both the skill of the translator and the artistry of the writer. I also found this article in the New York Times about Kawakami, and there were a few bits I wanted to share.
I'm a fan of Murakami Haruki. He's popular for a reason, and it's nice that that reason isn't that he writes bland, toneless stories. There's so much individuality and voice and deep characterization in his books. But he does get critiqued for his one-note female characters. According to the Times article, Murakami praised Kawakami's work, and Kawakami is a fan of Murakami's. They had this interaction:
Tumblr media
This sort of thing is the exact point where men and women find they can't understand each other. For so many straight male writers, a women is sexuality, because that's what women meant to them growing up as men and what effect such a comment from a woman could have. And women are left to wonder what these female characters do when there isn't a man around to make strange sexually-charged comments at, because they don't seem to have any other traits. A woman in men's writing is often more symbolic than she is human. It's not inherently wrong. Anything can be a symbol. But it is noticeable (to women anyway) when a writer uses female characters over and over in the same way without also offering women characters who clearly exist as themselves even when men aren't around.
When you read a romance novel, written by straight women for straight women, you'll probably find something not too dissimilar: a male lead who is more a symbol of the female protagonist's desire, both in a romantic/sexual sense and also in a practical one: if he isn't able to offer her emotional support at first, he learns how to. He fills the gap. He's something of a fantasy more than a human, and he may have interests outside of his lover... but he'll certainly pick her first.
But that's romance novels. They tell you right off the bat that they are a fantasy. They aren't pretending to be deep, raw, philosophical studies on society and the human condition. Novels which aspire to something so lofty should have a higher standard for how they depict their characters, regardless of gender or any other supposedly distinctive descriptors attached to them. You can have your symbolic Sexy Woman, fine, but only if you're clear that that's what you're doing and have other robust female characters who aren't the literary equivalent of the statue of Venus de milo.
The article goes on to say that Kawakami wanted to distance herself from the label of "feminist writer," and to do that she created a male protagonist. It's hard to miss the parallel: Murakami writes male protagonists and leaves symbolism to the females, while Kawakami writes female protagonists and generally avoids male ones. It's only natural that a man would write mainly from the point of view of a man: it reflects his life and growth. And equally, it's only natural that a woman would write about her life and growth as a woman. Neither Murakami nor Kawakami are at fault there. The difference is that Murakami's works don't get labeled "the male perspective" - instead they're held to be intriguing and enlightening to anyone. While Kawakami's works have been called "the female perspective," interesting only to feminists, and garner comments from men such as this beauty:
Tumblr media
I think it's important for women world-wide, regardless of where you live or your culture or your privilege, to know that there are men like Ishihara. And that they may be politicians capable of legislating against you. Many men are wonderful and as able to admire a talented female writer as they are to write captivating, reflective novels themselves. We can love them while also being wary of the ones like Ishihara, the ones who throughout history have wielded sexuality, pregnancy, and motherhood as tools to keep our perspectives anything but mainstream.
Many a timeless male writers has written with love and eloquence for humans. Women writers, even when they write exclusively about women, are just the same.
Tumblr media
Finally, a slightly unrelated quote, but one that made me smile:
Tumblr media
like my goodness, isn't this the point of art? To have Breaking Bad as well as "Breaking Bad but not a macho drama." What's art if you can't break it into pieces and put it together again and have it come out completely different? Th experience of gender isn't immaterial, but is no more than an experience. Not a wall. Why do people limit themselves in what they read (or admire) because someone's "experience" isn't the same as their own? I still remember the revelation to me that was a la mode. Always loved pie, so I thought, what does it need ice cream for? One bite opened up a whole new world. Whenever I hear of people like Ishihara, I figure they must hate pie a la mode.

Yandere classifications
I found this really nice post here and took some inspiration from it, some of my thoughts differ to theirs, but some are quite similar.
So, first we'll talk about the harmless type of yanderes. They usually like to admire from afar, in the sense that they may be involved in their darlings lives, but do not make too much of an effort to be a part of it. For them simply seeing their darling happy and thriving is enough, bonus points if they are the ones who can make their darling happy. In this sense I do believe they tie into the self sacrifice type of yanderes as they value their darlings happiness over all else.
Hakkai Shiba, Shinichiro Sano, Gon Freecs (platonic), Killua Zoldyck (Platonic), Baji Keisuke, Hinata Tachibana, Emma Sano.
Then we have the obsession type of Yandere. They spend their time thinking of their darling and want to know everything about them. Their obsession grows to a point where their darling is all that's on their mind. They tend to stalk their darling in hopes of getting more information and may be delusional due to their obsession as they create a fantasy in their head that they follow.
Kazutora Hanemiya, Haruchiyo Sanzu, Hisoka Morow, Izana Kurokawa.
Moving onto the next category we have the stalker type. I do feel they are closely related to the obsession type of yandere as the obsession type of yandere would want to know everything about their darling anyway. But they do their best to get all the information they can about their darling to better understand them and better mould themselves into the ideal version for their darling whether intentionally or unintentionally. They are not above slipping a tracking device in their darlings pocket and may break into their darlings house to get a better idea if they're daring enough.
Naoto Tachibana (using his position as a police offer), Shalnark, Illumi Zoldyck, Izana Kurokawa, Hisoka Morow.
Then we have the dependence type of yandere. They are the type who will closely linked to their darling to the point where their darling will be doing things for them. They may be in a relationship with their darling and just fall so hard to the point where they can't really do anything without them, wanting their darling to be by their side most of the time. Asking them to do mundane tasks such as finding their socks for them, or they may be in friends with their darling and start to rely on them for, not only company, but help with a wide array of things.
Souya Kawata, Haruki Hayashida (Pah chin), Phinks Magcub.
Next we have the monopoly type of yanderes. As their name suggests, they like to monopolise their darlings time. They like spending as much time as they possibly can with their darling, and try to make sure their darling spends a lot of time with them too. They can also try to cut off their darling from others to ensure that darling spends the most time with them. Although they want their darling to spend all their free time with them, they may not do the same and expect their darling to wait for them when they come back and greet them with a kiss.
Chrollo Lucilfer, Manjiro Sano (Mikey).
The manipulative type of yandere will stop at nothing to shape their darling in a manner that best suits them. They do this subtly without their darling ever finding out and gaslight their darling when they do catch on. They appear to be perfect because of which catching them can be quite troublesome. In their mind, what they're doing is the right thing for them and their darling as its another step to ensure their relationship gets stronger. They don't have to be in a relationship with their darling to do this, they just have to be an influence in their lives and if they don't, they'll snake their way in to ensure they can influence their darlings lives. They might not be delusional and might know their darling doesn't see them in that way, but they believe they can change that with a bit of manipulation. They may also be the training type of yandere.
Chrollo Lucilfer, Kisaki Tetta, Hanma Shuji, Ran Haitani.
The removal yandere would make sure their darling is dependent on them. They find the perfect opportunity to be the 'knight in shining armour' (in an emotional way) and are their for their darling for emotional support. They will also try to steer away any other person who darling is close to, in order to make sure that their darling really has no one to turn to but them. They use manipulation and monopolise their darlings time without them finding out. They can and will either use their darling to get rid of said people, or may manipulate those people to stay away from their darling.
Chrollo Lucilfer, Kurapika Kurta (if you're the last of his kind), Manjiro Sano (Mikey).
The sadistic yandere does love their darling, they really do. But they also love hurting their darling. In their mind its important to teach their darling a lesson, its important for their darling to know they can't leave them or do something that upsets them. They can use range of tools to make sure things go their way and strike fear in their darlings heart. If love isn't a strong enough emotion to control their darling, then fear is.
Feitan Portor, Illumi Zoldyck.
The delusional yandere refuses to accept reality. If they've been rejected or if they lose they can't accept it. They will see what they want to see and will refuse to believe anything other than what they believe.
Kazutora Hanemiya, Hajime Kokonoi, Illumi Zoldyck.
We also have the possession type of yanderes. They view their darling as an item, something that only they possess, and the process of getting them is just as enjoyable as keeping them. They want their darlings to act in a way that benefits them because after all, their darling is nothing more than their treasure, their plaything. They are most likely to kidnap their darling after a certain amount of staking out.
Chrollo Lucilfer, Hisoka Morow, Illumi Zoldyck, Rindou Haitani.
This is just my opinion, and if you feel as if I could add more to it, then please don't hesitate to send me a message!

Hiii. Love your blog!! Hope you're doing well and safe too. Could u please suggest some of translated books (both fiction n nonfiction) by Japanese writers.
Thank youu
Hello sweet soul! Thank you so much! I hope you’re safe and well too! <3
Thanks for this because it allows me to talk about something I absolutely LOVE!! I have not read too much Japanese translated non-fiction but I know a lot of these authors write the same, perhaps you could check that out. I’m happy to share a list of the books I’ve read and have on my TBR, perhaps you’re able to find something that you like. I thought the best way to go about it would be by author.
Haruki Murakami
1Q84 - it’s pretty long and might be intimidating but the writing is very easy to follow and it’s absolutely stunning.
Wind-Up Bird Chronicle - another longer Murakami, lots of wells, cooking, jazz and cats.
Norwegian Wood - a very popular book since it’s named after a Beetles song; most people like to start out with this to get acquainted with his writing style because the bizarreness is pretty much absent.
What I talk about when I talk about running - this is a non-fiction, pretty much a memoir. I loved it because I related to much of what he had to say about running as well as writing, but it might not be for everyone.
There’s obviously a lot more, the body of work you can read when you enjoy Murakami is vast; he writes both fiction and non-fiction, short stories and longer novels, so everyone gets to pick what they like ^_^ I have quite a few of his other works on my tbr for this year such as Killing Commendatore, Kafka on the Shore and South of the Border, West of the Sun.
Hiromi Kawakami
Strange weather in Tokyo - read this last year and it left me feeling very warm
Nakano Thrift Store
Meiko Kawakami (on my tbr for this year)
Breast and Eggs
Heaven
Mizuki Tsujimura (tbr)
Lonely Castle in the Mirror - this is a middle grade book but wonderful nonetheless (so I’ve heard)
Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Before the Coffee Gets Cold - very short but memorable :’)
There’s a part ii that’s come out which I’m sure will be just as wonderful
Tetsuya Akikawa
Sweet Bean Paste (I had this on my 2021 tbr but couldn’t get to it, so hopefully this year)
Banana Yoshimoto (tbr) I’ve heard her books are very atmospheric and I’d love to understand what that means
Kitchen
Moshi Moshi
Dead-End Memories (the English translation is scheduled to come out sometime this year)
Sayaka Murata
Convenience Store Woman (haven’t read it but have heard lots of good things about it)
Yoko Ogawa
The Memory Police - supposed to be eerie, kinda like 1Q84 and 1984 (tbr)
The Housekeeper and the Professor
Sosuke Natsukawa
The Cat Who Saved Books - i found this at a bookstore last year, i don’t know what it’s really about but, it has cats and books so I HAD to get it.
Genzaburo Yoshino
How Do You Live? - Hayao Miyazaki’s next project is based on this in case you’re interested in Ghibli :) is also a middle grade
In case you want to read some classics
Yasunari Kawabata - Snow Country (very scenic and loved how nature was used as a tool to reflect the protagonist’s thoughts)
Yuko Tsushima - Territory of Light (loved how light spoke to the readers and was used as a medium to put across what was left unsaid by the protagonist)
Side note: she’s Osamu Dazai’s daughter
Natsume Soseki - I am a cat (feels a little dated and I wasn’t able to understand the comedy but it’s a classic so here goes; perhaps I should give it another go)
Osamu Dazai - No longer Human
Ryūnosuke Akutagawa - Rashomon
I don’t know if you’ve watched Bungo Stray Dogs but *chef’s kiss*
These are not translations but good books to gain a perspective on Japanese society
Min Jin Lee - Pachinko (i will never not stop talking about this book because it’s a personal favourite and everyone should read it!)
Kazuo Ishiguro- An Artist of the Floating World (a man caught between pre and post war Japan and how it impacts his relationships. Provides a good portrayal of post-war Japan as well)

☁️Jujutsu Kaisen — Nanami Kento☁️
Note: I finally found time to get around my collection of books I bought, but haven’t read yet. This is just the first list of books, there’ll definitely be more to come. I hope it doesn’t sound biased. I took away the fantasy books I read (mainly Leigh Bardugo & V.E. Schwab), since Nanami is already in a fantasy world himself, I feel like fantasy books wouldn’t interest him. Also, he wouldn’t buy self-help books since they’re common sense to him & sorcerers in general have a higher perception of emotions. Anyways, I’ll let the list (and somewhat fun blurbs) speak for itself!
Tumblr media
Life for Sale by Yukio Mishima
This was given to Nanami as a birthday gift from Gojo. As Nanami was reading the story he found himself eerily similar to the main character, in terms of having the same feelings when he used to be a salaryman. He thought it was another way of Gojo trying to screw around with him, but gave him the benefit of the doubt since the story was interesting. Once Nanami was done reading the book, he smacked Gojo upside the head saying that he knows he gave him that book cause it reminded Gojo of him. Gojo replied asking how he knew it was him when he hasn’t said anything about it being related to him. Nanami clicked his tongue.
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
While Nanami was doing business in Kyoto, he was called to the jujutsu campus there to assist the students on a couple of their missions. When looking for Gakuganji, he got lost and decided to look for Miwa since she’s a teacher’s pet. Miwa was found lounging on the couch reading Pachinko. Nanami asked if it was worth buying it (he keeps seeing it displayed at every bookstore), and she replied in enthusiasm, but then realized that Nanami was a man and that he might not be interested in romance. He took it as a challenge and bought himself a copy.
The Essential Rumi
No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai
Yuji wanted to find a way to understand Nanami better ‘cause he felt like they didn’t get along on their first mission together, so Sukuna thought it’d be funny to see him read Rumi & No Longer Human. Sukuna’s reasoning is that Nanami is a complicated man, and that these books represent him as a whole. Yuji was crying in confusion when reading Rumi & suffered a feeling of emptiness at the end of No Longer Human. While Sukuna was having fun emotionally abusing Yuji, Gojo came in to see if he was okay cause Megumi told him that he heard Yuji crying and laughing (Megumi got scared that Yuji was having trouble switching with Sukuna). Gojo calls Nanami to see if he could make Yuji feel better, since Nanami was better suited for these types of things. Nanami came in seconds later, Yuji jumped on him crying and asking if that’s how Nanami really felt, pointing to the book. Sukuna was hysterically laughing on Yuji’s cheek, which Nanami found annoying so he asked Gojo if there was anything he can do to shut Sukuna up. Gojo held Megumi as hostage and threatened to kill him if Sukuna doesn’t go away. Offended, Sukuna retreats. Yuji was able to calm down and get back to his normal self. Nanami read Rumi & No Longer Human to see why it made Yuji that way and you wouldn’t guess who he called to get him out of that empty feeling—Gojo Satoru, the same man who gives him stress on a daily basis and the only one who’s able to whip him back into his normal sanity. Gojo teleported to his place with Cards of Humanity & kept quizzing Nanami solely on questions about him (Gojo likes getting praised).
Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami
Panda read Tsukuru as a way to experience human emotions, but at the end he end up with more questions than answers. Nanami bumped into him on campus and Panda remembered how much Nanami likes to read, so he decided to ask him for the answers. He replied saying that only the author holds the answers and meanings, but Panda insisted that he might hold the answers since he seems like the type to write these kinds of books. Nanami gave the book a shot. A bit offended, he asked Panda if he comes out as this depressing. Panda just sat there acting like he doesn’t know human language.
Men Without Women: Stories by Haruki Murakami
Yaga impulsively bought this book during the time of his divorce. He passed it to Nanami as if letting go of the past, and Nanami tried to refuse it saying he doesn’t want his baggage. But after some heavy silence, Nanami felt like he had no choice but to accept it.
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
Spotted Yuji, Megumi & surprisingly Sukuna crying over it. Nanami looked at them in worried confusion and even wiped Sukuna’s tears away, Sukuna ate the tissue and spat it back at Nanami for making him look like he needed comfort. Nanami just flicked Sukuna’s eye to get him to behave. Later on, Nanami cooked Yuji & Megumi comfort food as he read what the book was about. It felt like Haibara was talking to him in a nostalgic way.
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Utahime came into the lounge room in a pissed mood, and asked Nanami if he’d seen a book called The Bell Jar anywhere. Nanami nods and realizes that she wasn’t anywhere near the lounge, so why is she looking here? When he asked, Utahime ended up ranting to him about how Gojo always hides her things to piss her off. Nanami decided to help her as a way to retaliate back at Gojo. He ends up finding the book first, read the summary at the back & decided to read the first page while he still had it. A few chapters later, Utahime snatches her book out of his hands, looking at him as if he were Gojo. Nanami was about to say he wasn’t done yet, but realized that it was Utahime’s copy. He apologizes to her before bumping into Gojo and smacking him upside the head. (After finishing The Bell Jar, he bought more works by Sylvia Plath)
I Love Dick by Chris Kraus
Despite the questionable title, Ijichi was caught by Nanami slacking on his work because of this book. At first, Nanami was caught off guard ‘cause he didn’t know Ijichi swung that way, but he accepted it with an open mind (nothing’s wrong with Ijichi being gay). After clearing his throat to get his attention, Nanami began to lecture him about how unprofessional it was to bring inappropriate material to work, but Ijichi quickly reassured him that wasn’t what it actually was. According to Ijichi, it was a really good book & told Nanami that he’d be interested in the storyline (since Ijichi saw him reading The Bell Jar).
The Shadow of The Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Nanami saw Ino at the edge of his seat when reading this book. He’s never seen Ino so completely immersed in a book before, nor has he ever seen him pick up any type of book before. He had to pry the book away from Ino’s hands to get his attention. That same day Nanami bought his own copy ‘cause if it’s able to get Ino hooked into reading then it’s probably worth it.
Satan Says by Sharon Olds
Ieiri found the book too boring and complicated to finish, so she gave it to bookworm Nanami. She told him that she doesn’t know if he’ll like it or not, but it was better in his hands than it is in hers. Nanami opened the book to a random page, read the first line, which he immediately understood and closed it to get back to work. The whole day he was only thinking about getting back home to finish it.
Assholes: A Theory by Aaron James
During Nanami’s time in highschool, he asked Geto for advice on how to tolerate Gojo. Geto gave him this book, and to this day he applies the book to Gojo. When Megumi first met Nanami, he asked Nanami for advice on how to handle Gojo. He said all the answers were in this book and passed it to Megumi like it was a family heirloom. It’s basically a manual on how to handle people like Gojo, little do they know it’s written by a Gojo.
The Emotionary: A Dictionary of Words That Dont Exist for Feelings That Do by Eden Sher
Also received during his time in highschool. It was a gift from Haibara that Nanami repeatedly reads from time to time. Haibara thought it’d give him a change of pace from all the negativity they experience during their missions. The book is filled with quirky words used to describe the good & bad days. Nanami also applies these words to describe the stress Gojo gives him.

[ 📼 ] . . . reposted because tumblr took it off?? ugh n e ways happy birthday again to my boy sugawara😔✋
Tumblr media
SUGAWARA KOUSHI.
➜ before the arrival of your daughter, mans was totally cool about it; also ecstatic to say the least, he wanted to have a family for you for a long, long time, and when he finally has the chance to start it with you ─ he couldn't help but cry and be so soft on the spot with just the thought of it
➜ but he also couldn't help but be doubtful, doubtful of himself ─ will be a good enough father? will he be able to teach his daughter the important virtues in life? will his daughter even love him?
➜ but in the midst of those thoughts were you, reassuring him multiple times, that, if there was any man that you could think of, of being the father of your children ─ that man would be him, and only him
➜ ngl right now, mans wanted to give you another one after you said that 💀
➜ and when your first child was delivered, he was so encouraging and supportive of you, would whisper reassurance and words of affermations saying how great you were, how he was so blessed for having you.
➜ remember those doubts he had? all those thoughts fully dissapeared when your baby wrapped her fingers around his thumb for the first time, and suga couldn't help but cry ─ from joy? definitely, from satisfaction that you guys created this angel? of course. and relief? yeah, probably.
➜ sugawara doesn't want to spoil your daughter since he wants your daughter to know the importance of money and doesn't want her to end up being a brat
➜ but sometimes ,,, he couldn't just help it okay? ☹
➜ in the first months of parenting with sugawara, he was anything but the perfect dad but you could really see the parental instincts in him
“ kohana, come to daddy ” your husband, koushi, stretched his arms towards your daughter of five years; kneeling on the floor as you sat across from him, kneeling as well.
➜ as your daughter slowly waddled over to sugawara with a blank yet adorable chubby face, sugawara was overjoyed, to say the least.
“ yes waddle over to daddy ─ ”
➜ well, until your daughter cheekily ran across the opposite side, to you. as if flowers of many kinds surrounded her, she glided onto your surprised arms as you instinctively open tour arms out for her, a shocked laugh was heard from you.
➜ 💀💀💀
➜ your husband's jaw DROPPED Y'ALL😭✋ LET ME JUST AHHH
➜ kohana definitely got her wittiness and cheekiness from her koushi, and maybe some from you as well.
➜ sugawara let out an offended scoff as he got up so fast to chase your daughter around the house, as your daughter shrieked in fear and excitement as she waddled all over the place
➜ ugh IM SO SOFT RN, NO ONE TOUCHHHH MEEEE😡
➜ and when kohana was out with her with her aunty kiyoko and uncles daichi and asahi, sugawara was feeling a bit ,,, spicy that night that hey, why not create another one with you👉👈
➜ let's just say, while your daughter was eating caramel apples with her aunt & uncles, you were getting dic ked down by sugawara phew chile
➜ and after a few months, your son, shin was born & damn did sugawara love him
➜ unlike your daughter, your son is such a sweetie uGHHHH
➜ and loved his dad so much, is the calm and collected one while he had your hair and suga's eyes
➜ while the squad™ ; daichi, kiyoko & asahi would come to your house with every chance they get just to see your little ones and maybe even bring theirs as a playdate for shin & kohana
➜ ugh next gen typa thingz💅
➜ would play volleyball with them, but with a softer one that's a bit more kid-friendly
➜ being almost total opposites, shin and kohana would often bicker, kohana being the one to provock the fight and shin just straight up spitting facts, 6/10 of the time would win over his older sister
➜ periodt
➜ and if fights would get too much, sugawara would bONKK💥🔨 your children ( like those times where suga just fu cking bOnKs his teammates. )
➜ yeah that
➜ mans rarely gets mad and phew ,, if he ever does i just have nothin, NOTHIN to say😶
“ i HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE YELLED AT A GIRL LIKE THIS, WHEN MY MOTHER YELLS LIKE THIS IT'S BECAUSE SHE LOVES ME. ”
➜ he'll never be angry at them for too long though
➜ but mostly, he'll just be disappointed rather than mad
➜ and honestly that hurts more
➜ since sugawara is an elementary school teacher, he'd often tell stories about your guys' children with his students
➜ like THAT ONE TEACHER THAT JUST TALKS ABOUT THEIR LIVES AND FORGETS ABOUT CLASS
➜ UGH WE STANNNN
➜ it became an actual thing with his students that they would every now and then ask about them
➜ would have such a strong foundation built from trust, respect and just love with his children
➜ honestly you'd fallen all over again with him BECAUSE HE'S SO UGSHHSHSH
➜ HUSBAND MATERIAL
➜ SANAOL LIKE CAN'T RELATE LMAO
➜ baking !!
➜ this is one of suga's past times, and even before you guys were even married, y'all would have at-home dates and just bake
➜ and it just gradually became a thing with your children every time anyone just wants to bake something.
➜ and most of the time would end up messing up the kitchen and covered in flour
➜ 11/10 dad, may not be the most perfect dad but your kids could never ask for anyone else but him.
Tumblr media
OIKAWA TOORU.
➜ it started off as a joke, he couldn't really remember when it all started but he would always say that you would be such a good mother whenever you would take care of him when he's injured himself or just scold him whenever he keeps over working himself
➜ but after a few years and oikawa would never have thought that he wanted to actually have a child or two with you, it started off when he would spend a few hours until pass midnight to watch cute baby videos
➜ like why was he there?? HE WAS JUST WATCHING BUZZFEED UNSOLVED A FEW MINUTES AGO LMAO WHAT
➜ and his eyes would linger onto your sleeping figure ontop of his body, face nuzzled as he could feel your nose tickle his torso.
➜ he couldn't help but play along with the thoughts of having a child with you ─ to start a family with you.
➜ you guys were already living together at argentina, and you've support him through and through with everything he has pursued in his life, and what else was stopping him from starting a family with you?
➜ yes, his schedule may be a bit busy but he had always given more than enough time to you, what hurt may it cause if he had another person to dedicate his attention as well? someone that's the perfect mixture of the love of his life and himself.
➜ and when oikawa has already set something on his mind ─ mans would always get what he wants
➜ if i were you, i'd give him anything he wants ngl
➜ just saying y'all😳✋
➜ it didn't take him a hot second to make you agree to it, and before he knew it he fell in love all over again on the bundle of joy he held on his hands
➜ would pepper you with kisses even if you were tired from giving birth, saying how proud he was of you and how beautiful the child you both created
➜ like duh, it was yours and tooru's child, your guys' baby will be a HEARTBREAKER WITH THOSE LOOKS😡
“ tooru !! ” you exclaimed as you saw your husband hold out a strawberry lollipop to your daughter while holding her with his other arm, as your daughter was ready to bite it ─ MANS REALLY SAID NO❌ RIGHTS✅😤 AND PULLED IT AWAY WHILE LAUGHING BEFORE PUTTING IT IN HIS MOUTH
➜ i'm so sorry i just ─
➜ while your daughter LOOKED SO OFFENDED WHEN SHE STARED SO HARD AT HIM LIKE
➜ THIS BITCH REALLY HAD IT COMING FOR HIM
➜ before your daughter just straight up cried right then and there while tooru's eyes widdened and tried apologizing to his daughter
“ aiko baby i'm so sorry ─  ” until your daughter slapped the lollipop from his mouth
➜ while oikawa just had that blank stare
➜ while you're trying not laugh so much because you KNOW his ego was shattered as she held her arms out for you, making grabby hands until you took her off from her father's hold
➜ oikawa : i hate it here😙😍💅
➜ aiko : it's what he deserves :)
➜ but when your daughter grew up, she ADORED HER FATHER, she would be the first to to the door whenever her father comes back from tournaments, your two younger sons, akiro and haruki would follower right after her chasing each other out
➜ oikawa still dresses her up even if she wasn't a seven year old anymore
➜ aiko is a daddy's girl and that's on periodt😡💅
➜ while aiko had tooru's playful and big dumb b energy, and your your hair and his eyes
➜ your oldest son, akiro, got your personality, and eyes but his father's hair
➜ and your youngest son, haruki, has both your eyes and hair and is a mix of yours and tooru's personality
➜ and it wasn't only aiko which held her father at such a good light that if she told him that ─ mans will be over the moon
➜ but also your two sons which found themselves loving and dedicating their love towards volleyball just like their father
➜ watching his games is a must !!
➜ his ego would not only be ASTRONOMICAL
➜ and just the overall overwhelming motivation had him serving 4 service aces in a row on periodttt
➜ your three kids would fight over who could scream the loudest in the stands for their father
➜ when he's away and your children would have those missing him hours™😔✋ oikawa would always try and contact you guys three times a day and everynight he'd be telling you guys how practice was and would also ask you guys how your days was.
➜ would teach his kids to FLIRT LMAO💀
➜ but will never fail teaching them that they should treat woman with RESPEKT ( and just overall everyone?? not just of their gender it's just because of idk??MANNERS ? )
➜ oikawa : *drinks his respect wamen juice.*
➜ ohoho but if his daughter ever starts having boy crushes MANS WOULD BE ALL POUTY
“ but loovveee ,, ” tooru drags out
“ our daughter is starting to date, what happened to marrying daddy one day? ”
“ tooru we're already married. ”
➜ you're tHIS👌 CLOSE TO DIVORCING HIS ASS
➜ you : i should have gone for the best friend instead
➜ IM JOKING YOU LOVE HIM A LOT
➜ beach volleyball !!
➜ after seeing how good beach volleyball taught hinata, giving him advantages in the indoor court, he wanted his child to as well
➜ or normal backyard volleyball will do
➜ just like with his teammates, oikawa is able to bring out the best in your children
➜ just a 11/10 dad, he may not always be with you guys because of volleyball but he'd always make time for you guys and would never neglect and forsake you guys

yeah I always enjoy role swap aus more than complete character swaps. it allows for explorations of the same characters but in completely different contexts and I love that.
I think uenoyuki's dynamic would be a lot more based on banter and ribbing (aka yuki teasing ue and ue getting flustered + mad). their 'big fight' would also be a lot bigger and louder because ue gets riled up really easily and would probably rile yuki up in return.
by contrast, I think harugetsu's dynamic would be almost the opposite. because haruki has a more level demeanor, they'd probably be a lot less chaotic overall, and their fights wouldn't get as messy without akihiko's temper. haruki would probably be more willing to give in to ugetsu (similar to how he does with akihiko) because of how much he cares about him, at least for a little, before he puts his foot down and stops putting up with it (once again, like he does with akihiko).
that being said, I wonder what... That One Scene with akiharu would look like with the role reversal...
another interesting thing I didn't think of initially would be baby gay mafuyu. since we only ever see him in a place where he's very comfortable in his sexuality, seeing him figure himself out during the actual story is quite the thought.
also ue's issue with how expressive he is would probably be more related to how he doesn't know how to express himself without being angry (this one book quote "I wish I could be as subtle and beautiful, all I know how to do is scream" came to my mind that pretty much sums it up).
as you can see I have a lot of thoughts about this au lol
I KNOW I JUST SENT AN ASK BUT I JUST REALISED
THIS MEANS HARUKI DATES MAFUYU'S SISTER?? (I'M NOT 100% SURE IF HE HAS ONE I THINK HE DOES BUT CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG)
OH BOY
Ohhhh man YES and wow that would hurt, seeing a fight between Ritsuka and Yuki rather than Mafuyu and Yuki because like you said, given Ritsuka's personality, it would be very different and a lot more explosive. It also makes me wonder if, at that point, spectator Hiiragi would react even less to the fight since this probably wouldn't be the first time Ritsuka and Yuki had a fight. In canon, Hiiragi had referred to that one fight between Mafuyu and Yuki as "just an ordinary fight that couples have" or something similar, but in the case of Ritsuka and Yuki having that fight, it would be very different. Hmmm.
(Cut for length. I can't keep things short because this is super interesting and I have A Lot to say about it. :V)
Also! The whole thing with Haruki and Ugetsu would probably be one of the biggest contrasts in this AU and it makes me wonder how their conflict(s) would pan out, how exactly they break up (who would break first in this case, Haruki or Ugetsu?) and indeed, with Haruki's way more levelheaded personality in contrast to Akihiko's, a lot of things would change there, too. (Oh yeah, that one scene in chapters 19-20... Yeah... yeah. How would that happen in this case?)
The idea of Mafuyu struggling to come to terms with his sexuality in place of Ritsuka is a very interesting one! Like you mentioned, canon Mafuyu is seemingly very comfortable with his sexuality and it doesn't, to me, look like it's ever really been anything he's thought much about, probably since he dated Yuki when very young. How would that one conversation Ritsuka had with Akihiko pan out if it was Mafuyu instead? Would it even happen in the first place since it's Mafuyu we're talking about? Ohhhh and just... the thought of Ritsuka being like Mafuyu in terms of not knowing exactly how to express himself along with just not talking much in general? Absolutely heartbreaking, and yet... intriguing. 😂
Since Akihiko and Yayoi weren't technically dating (like Yayoi said that one time after she got rejected, it was a one-sided crush), it wouldn't be quite like that but it would still mean Haruki had to reject Yayoi at some point like Akihiko did, and it would also mean they'd have a pretty complicated past. Ohhh. This is good. 👀

THIS IS SPOILERS ASSUMING YOU HAVE FINISHED OR CAUGHT UP WITH ULTRAMAN Z. I DON'T WISH TO ASSUME OR RUIN THE ULTRA EXPERIENCE. So with episode 19 of Ultraman Z do you plan to make a new comic regarding Z and Ace's relationship? Of course I'm not saying you have to, just curious because of the old one you did!
Uh, I have to assume you're assuming my old comics were made before episode 19, which IIRC I don't think they were? At least, I'm certain my silly comic about heights was done after 19. Anyway.
I also have to assume there's some assumption of Ace being stated to be Zett's parent going on here, which is not the case! Ace is stated to be the one who gave Zett his name, but 1) Haruki's response to that is "wait Ace is your godfather?!", clearly using that term in the older sense of 'one who gave you your name (but isn't necessarily related to you)', and 2) Zett literally always refers to Ace with -niisan, or older brother, which would be pretty weird to call your parent but not an older guy you're close with/have known since you were very small. (-ojisan or uncle would possibly be more expected, considering the relative ages here, buuut then again everyone refers to Ace as one of the Ultra Brothers, so maybe -niisan comes more naturally, lol.)
(And to head off taking -niisan too literally: one, yes it's used for non-relatives, and two, I'm pretty sure TsuPro would never be so oblique about there being another child/grandchild of Father and Mother of Ultra, lol. Just look at all the fanfare Taiga got!) (I mean, I could be wrong, it'd just be weird.)
General fan consensus I've seen (which, admittedly, I'm somehow more plugged into the JP side of the fandom than the EN side... twitter artists man) is that, considering how cagey Zett was about his origins during one of the Voice Dramas, he was probably orphaned in some disaster as a child and found by Ace, who gave him his name but likely didn't raise him. (Theories vary on why, but I personally like the idea that Ace thought he'd be better off being raised by someone who doesn't have massive Yapool-based PTSD and isn't routinely called out across the universe.) (Which I realize is kind of a Seven argument, but listen: at least Ace clearly remained a presence in Zett's life, Seven.)
EDIT TO ADD: The Voice Dramas also wouldn't make as much sense if Ace had raised Zett, because why would Zett seek out Zero specifically because the Ultra Brothers were "too scary and unapproachable" if he'd been raised by one? There's ways to make it work, of course, but the simpler answer is that he probably wasn't raised by Ace.
I've actually seen a few other comics theorizing about Zett's origin which I really liked - admittedly in Japanese, so I only really got the gist of it, but still, point remains - so unless I can come up with something that I know isn't just massively influenced by those to the point of ripping them off...
tl;dr: no plans for more Ace & Zett comics currently, lol

BGM: UNICORN - デーゲーム
Recently I couldn't read books well, and today I couldn't read "The Navidad Incident: The Downfall of Matias Guili" anymore. Indeed, For me reading is not my job so I should read as I can, but it seems that it is related with the fact that I have got aged certainly. I remember that I had been into Haruki Murakami's works "without eating and sleeping". I won't say that young days must be great, but I feel that once I could read in such a deep way was because I was exactly young therefore I had vitality. I should do more "extrovert" activities (as travelling or studying abroad) when I was young. But anyway I am getting into the stage I would have to lose my power. I have to read just one books quite slowly, so I would change the book to Jack Kerouac "On The Road".
During work, I couldn't see completely how the WBC was. At lunchtime I learned the result. Japan won the game against Mexico. Once I "dissed" a little bit about the WBC fever, so I have to be ashamed of it. But, even if the fever is still increasing, around me there is not any fever of the WBC (of course, this is just in a small circle of friends so never be the trend of the world). I wonder where this gap comes from. I can't understand how the baseball is, but I don't want the movement of "thank you for the impression". If we the Japanese people had to thank for the impression of those baseball games, that would mean nationalism could come again. Of course, I won't say nationalism must be evil, but I can't follow that as a people. This is just a comment of an idiot...
A friend of mine decides how he will spend the day with planning his schedule in detail neatly. It is the opposite of mine. I just spend my days randomly. I sleep yawning when I want to sleep, and I read books when I want to read. Once, at a certain period I thought I should follow him, but if I decided the schedule completely then I couldn't move because of that tight plan. Once I decided to read a books per a day, and I couldn't do so (of course!) and felt I was a loser. Yes, I was young and fool. But recently I am not enjoying any movies so start thinking "I want to watch two movies per a week". I am worrying about that. I would try to have some new habits of every  day as using apps like Audrey Tang.
The life of "reading so many books as I want to read". It would be the opposite life of "not reading the books I 'must' read". As I wrote this many times, I had been scolded many times as "why did you not read such great books like this?". And I even thought I was lazy because I couldn't be interested in Dostoevsky even I was older than 40 years old. According to the experience of that period, we might need to wait for the time comes. The time that we will be able to meet the books we should read (yes, it is like our lives themselves). If we couldn't meet those books, we had to give up meeting. I remember the marvelous readers as Kenzaburo Oe tried to read Dickens or Spinoza steadily, so I have to be embarrassed as I read the books "too much". Or I can never become Umberto Eco so I need to find my own way of reading. Anyway, I want to dig the "Complete World Literature" edited by Natsuki Ikezawa.

Given Movie Staff Comments
Tumblr media
Creator, Kizu Natsuki
——Could you tell us your impressions from when the movie adaptation was green-lit?
I was surprised. I majored in cinema when I was a student, so it is deeply moving for me to have my own work being adapted into a movie, and in any case, it is a great honor.
——Please leave a message for the fans who will watch it.
I feel very grateful for the fact that “Given the Movie” will be presented to the public amidst the current situation, and that there are people who are thinking, “I want to watch it!” and will be coming all the way to the theatres. This is absurdly fortunate, and I am happy about it, thank you very much.
Director, Yamaguchi Hikaru
——Could you tell us your impressions and enthusiasm toward the movie adaptation?
We had been discussing making a movie ever since the project for animating “Given” came about, so when I saw the finished announcement for after the last TV episode, I felt that “the time has finally come, huh...”. The spotlight was on the high school gang in the TV series, but the story of the adult group has also been progressing all this time together with theirs, so the sensation is that everything that has been cultivated until now will be quietly put together.
——Were there any production differences between the anime and the movie?
For the TV series, we made eleven episodes of about twenty minutes each, which covered two and a half of the first volumes, so our biggest obstacle this time was whether or not we would manage to properly compress almost the same amount of material from the latter half of the original work into a predetermined length of sixty minutes. Also, the drama will unfold on a screen much bigger than a TV’s, so we were already fumbling around for how to display the visual parts of it in a way that is appropriate for a film. The sound quality is also completely different from TV, so we would like people to experience live concert music at the movie theatres.
——Please leave a message for the fans who will watch it.
We apologize for the awfully long wait. We have made this movie in hopes that both the people who have come from reading the original work and the people who are following it from the TV anime will enjoy it, and so that it will gently turn into a support for their hearts. This time, too, the soundtrack is full of truly wonderful pieces. Please look forward to it.
Screenplay writer, Ayana Yuniko
——Could you tell us your impressions and enthusiasm toward the movie adaptation?
It is a movie where the relationship between Haruki, Akihiko and Ugetsu is depicted colorfully. Mafuyu and Ritsuka have taken one step after another and established a communication, but these are “adults” that do not talk about their true feelings to their significant other. This story is a continuation of the TV series, but we attempted a different approach for it. There are also scenes that we can only depict because this is a movie.
——Were there any production differences between the anime and the movie?
We dug deep in the TV series, while the movie was a matter of condensing the script. It did not change that we depicted everything sensibly, so as not to spoil the air of Kizu-sensei’s manga, but in regards to the predetermined length, the amount of episodes to handle was big, so it was quite difficult. We progressed while earning confirmation from everyone involved, starting with Kizu-sensei.
——Please leave a message for the fans who will watch it.
Everyone will be able to watch “Given the Movie” in the same season as its story is set. We are grateful that we will be able to release it so quickly, while many forms of entertainment, such as the Given stageplay, were either canceled or postponed. Music and romance. By all means, do watch the season of these men who cannot let go, cannot come to clean decisions, are at loss and find themselves troubled.
Music composer, Michiru
——Could you tell us your impressions and enthusiasm toward the movie adaptation?
I am very happy that I will get to see the Given quartet on a theatre screen.
——Following the anime, you are in charge of the soundtrack, but what kind of music pieces do you want to deliver in the movie?
I hoped I would be able to deliver compositions that could support their conflicts and everyday lives, as well as colorfully hype up the story, and that is how I have produced them.
——Please leave a message for the fans who will watch it.
“Given the Movie” was postponed once after the state of emergency declaration, but we will finally be able to watch it in the theatres. By all means, come enjoy it in the theatres, including the surround sound that can only be used in cinemas.
Theme song composer, Centimillimental
——Could you tell us your impressions and enthusiasm toward the movie adaptation?
I felt that the theme of the TV series was a triangle with “someone who is here” and “someone who is gone”, but this movie is about a triangle between “people who are here”. I hope I can make people’s noses runny with my music, intersecting these painful and realistic feelings.
——Following the anime, you are in charge of the soundtrack, but what kind of music pieces do you want to deliver in the movie?
I also cherished it the previous time, but I would be happiest if it becomes a soundtrack that, instead of letting the story end with the individuals who appear in it being lumped as so-called “anime characters”, could make them, the staff, the actors, the people who will watch it and all the people who are involved with the series relatable and empathizable amongst each other as purely equal, interpretting the characters as human beings who love somebody, become happy, feel sad and get hurt like we do.
——Please leave a message for the fans who will watch it.
With no option against the global threat brought by the sudden coronavirus, the release of this movie was pushed way behind the schedule. I believe that, even after we finish watching the movie and come out of the venue, there are definitely many such kinds of darkness that will surge forward amidst our long lives. There might be nights when we will not be able to sleep due to the axiety of it. But in times like these, by using the message passed through the Given movie as a keyword, we should surely be able to overcome it. It is all right. “Even if you can’t sleep, dawn will break.”
