Top 10 Favorite Young Justice Characters
Tumblr media
10. Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle
Starting off the list is Blue Beetle. Young Justice introduced me to him, and I was hooked. He’s probably the most mellow and calming voice. His arc and relationship with Bart (friendship or not) were my favorite aspects of S2. They bounced off each other in every scene. I was very disappointed when Jaime and Bart were sidelined so much, and hope S4 changes this (particularly with Bart).
Jaime in the number 10 spot since he doesn’t really have much of a memorable personality. Still love him to bits though.
Tumblr media
        9. Will Harper/Red Arrow
Funny enough, I did not like Will. He was an asshole in S1; S2 kind of changed my mind about him but not enough since he didn’t appear as much. What really changed my mind was the episode “Private Security” (S3 Ep.4). I started looking back into Will’s storylines and, I have to admit, his is probably one of the best character development.
The first season had him unwillingly living a lie and betraying the people he cared for. In season 2 he was so consumed into finding the original Roy for five years, not even caring or focusing about his own life. I felt really bad for Will because he was probably going through an identity crisis and thought he couldn’t live his life without finding Arsenal. Probably felt guilty.
Seeing him living his own life and being happy with his daughter was so heartwarming. I smiled every time Will appeared in the latest season (totally ignoring the Will x Artemis fiasco), especially with Lian. I’m very proud of him.
I feel bad for putting him so low, yet I adore the next characters more.
Tumblr media
 8. Garfield Logan/Beast Boy
I have been a massive Beast Boy fan since Teen Titans so you probably can imagine how excited to see him. His origin story was unique and his brother-sister bond with M’gann was very sweet. It was pretty weird seeing how much younger Gar was than Dick, but I got used to it. I was bummed that Gar wasn’t in S2 as much; however, S3 truly made up for it.
After watching Beast Boy being a great leader in S5 of Teen Titans, I wanted a leader-like and more mature version of him. Young Justice truly delivered with Gar being the leader of the Outsiders. It’s nice to see him treated with respect rather than as a joke because that was my biggest gripe with Teen Titans. Though it was weird seeing him not crack a joke at all.
Gar’s story with his mom was heartbreaking to see. I literally cried seeing his reaction to revisiting his trauma in S2 and S3; I just wanted to hug and tell him how awesome he is. My only complaint with Gar in S3 was that the Outsiders weren’t established until near the end of the season.
His voice actor being Greg Cipes also gives him extra points (He’s a chill guy and radiates BB energy).
Tumblr media
 7. Dick Grayson/Nightwing/ Robin I
Sorry to all the hardcore Nightwing fans.
I love Dick (don’t get any ideas), but he doesn’t get enough development in the spotlight. One of the things I really wanted to see from him is his growth as a main leader, and his journey to becoming Nightwing. I was really bummed when these happened between the first two seasons.
To be honest, I don’t have as much to say about him other than straightforward qualities I enjoy about him.
1.His Voice (it’s so soothing)
2.His Personality (very charismatic)
3.Very Handsome (Probably in the top 3 my most handsome YJ Men list)
I put him higher than the others since he made a lot of contribution to the story and his new words (gotta love that aster!)
Tumblr media
6. Megan Morse/M’gann M’orzz/Miss Martian
If I made this list during S1, M’gann would have probably been in my top 3 (maybe even No. 1), but S2 didn’t give her any brownie points.
I really liked S1 Miss Martian because of her kind heart, awkward girl next door personality. Her trouble fitting in the beginning reminded me of when I was going through a time in high school; seeing her having trouble as well helped me feel not so lonely. M’gann powers were (still are) my favorite since I am a big fan of mind-like powers. I would feel so powerful. Watching her identity crisis(?) arc was great too. I’ve had trouble feeling comfortable in my own skin as well as my social anxiety (I’m a mess) and I could understand how scared Megan was of her friends’ thoughts on her true form.
Oh boy. Season 2 basically ruined her. Learning what she would do to enemies was terrifying to see and left me wondering what happened to Miss Martian that made her step this far. What she almost did to Superboy was almost unforgivable. You do not try to manipulate with your boyfriend’s mind when you guys have an argument! Shame on you M’gann. If Superboy hadn’t forgiven you then I wouldn’t have either.
Good thing S3 somewhat redeemed her. Her kind heart was noticeable again and she refused to do that mind trick again (thank god). Very excited for the Superboy and Miss Martian wedding! Please creators, I beg of you to not skip over it. I want to cry my eyes out in happiness!
Tumblr media
 5. Kaldur’ahm/Aquaman/Aqualad
Now we’re in the top 5 with Aqualad (*ahem* Aquaman) starting it off.
Creating Kaldur was the best decision the creators ever did. I love him with all my heart!
He added diversity to the original team and was a great leader. S1 was not his breakout season, though the second season definitely was.
Kladur played the villain so well that he deserves an automatic Oscar. I never doubted that he was with the heroes, but he didn’t disappoint. My favorite part about Aqualad’s performance was when he rose from the ocean slowly like a cliché villain (he made it work), and the line he said right after he “killed” Artemis; it sent me chills. Love it!
Pretty disappointed that he didn’t appear as much in S3. Very happy that he is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and is in a happy relationship. I’m a part of the community and loved that there was finally some representation in one of my favorite shows. Even so, I have to criticize how rushed and sidelined it was. I hope Kaldur and Wyynde’s relationship gets development.
Tumblr media
 4. Kon-El/Conner Kent/Superboy
Like Will, I did not like Superboy at first. Mainly angry and volatile characters were never really my cup of tea. I do understand why he was upset and felt bad for him; I just handle anger the direct opposite as him. My love for Conner started growing around the end of S1. He was very sweet towards Miss Martian (bless him for not caring about her appearance) and his anger was in control.
Season 2 pretty much switched my opinions on him and M’gann. It was awful what M’gann almost did to him. That scene with him being so sad that what she did ruined that special bond they had almost made me cry. I wanted to give him a hug. He grew so much too since I don’t think he would have handled the whole M’gann drama as well in S1. A lot of furniture would’ve been broken.
I gotta admit something. I almost put Conner near the bottom (maybe no. 7). A comment in a poll in Amino changed my mind. I wrote a poll asking other fans who did they prefer SB or MM. At that point I said SB, though I didn’t think much of it. Someone (specifically yjfangirl) responded “Superboy has the best development in the show.” This had me thinking about how far SB has gone. In the beginning, Conner was an angry guy who felt alone and rejected by the person who he was meant to emulate. Now he is happier and living for himself rather than to be the next Superman. He’s getting married people! A little detail I noticed when rewatching S3 was Superboy mentioning to new characters that they weren’t obligated to be a hero because of their abilities. I adored this! The main reason why Superboy was created to be Superman if the original ever died, and another one of Luthor’s puppets. But he strayed from that pressuring path and is doing his own thing. Conner doesn’t want other people to feel like he did. What an absolute pure soul.
Also, yjfangirl, first I want to say Hi (*waves*)! Then say thanks for writing that comment. It made me really think about the bigger picture with SB and my love for him as grown exponentially. You probably didn’t mean to do that, but I still want to thank you. 😊
Tumblr media
 3.Wally West/Kid Flash
We’re in the elites now.
I don’t know how to explain it, I just love Wally. He makes me laugh, and his character growth was great. At first, Wally was this cocky flirt who didn’t take the hero work as seriously. That changed in “Cold-hearted,” one of my favorite episodes in the series. This was when I really started seeing more of Wally than being this dumb flirt. It was great seeing him actually caring about helping people since I believed for a long time that he wanted to be a superhero to just have powers rather than actually protect others. The regret in his eyes when he thought his impulsive behavior killed Perdita helped me see who he really was- this somewhat arrogant speedster who had a kind heart. Episodes that can make me change my perspective on characters are truly special.
I was very upset that he wasn’t in S2 a lot. I understand why since he gave up the life, but I was still bummed. Seeing him being so loving and protective towards Artemis was amazing. Spitfire is my favorite ship and I will not give up on them. All I want is a happy ending! The penultimate episode of S3 was a hint that it will happen. Watching the S2 finale was heartbreaking, I cried watching him disappear, his love for Artemis being the last things he said. Artemis’ reaction did not(I just wanted to hug her).
I have more to say, though I’m leaving it for another post. 😉
Tumblr media
 2.Bart Allen/Kid Flash II/Impulse
Picking between Bart and Wally for second place was tough. Took me a while to decide; I’ll talk about it later on.
The moment Bart made his appearance, I absolutely adored him. He is amazing and I live for his hyper, fun attitude. His arc and relationship with Jaime were my favorite aspects of S2. What can I say, their chemistry is great to see.
That scene when he was meeting the Flash family was so adorable. His excitement was infectious and spoiling his dad and aunt’s births was hilarious! I watch it occasionally whenever I need a good laugh or reason to smile.
Unlike most time travelers- at least the ones I’ve seen- Bart was very involved with what was going on and befriended his biggest enemy- evil and weirdly huge future Blue Beetle. He was pretty careful about disclosing very important information and took things very seriously. You never know if disclosing everything was the thing that brought the world to chaos.
What I found interesting was his choice on how to interact with everyone. He seemed pretty gloomy in the future, but decided to portray this cheerful, devil-may-care attitude to be more likable. I understood (still kind of do). I had terrible mental health issues and I pretended to be happy in front of loved ones because I thought they wouldn’t care about me anymore. Bart got some brownie points for that.
I was dissatisfied when his role was greatly reduced. I wanted the creators to go further with Bart by revealing his past and how it affected him. He was pretty much comedy relief. You couldn’t imagine how disappointed I was, especially with it involving my second favorite character. Season 4 better change that.
I know that you shouldn’t assume a character’s sexuality, yet I really hope Bart is gay. There needs to be more clear representation and Bart can be one of them. I’m also a Bluepulse and Bartuado shipper (fine with either one as long as Bart’s bond with each of them stays strong).
Anyway, I mentioned that I would explain why I chose Bart for 2nd place over Wally. It mostly stems from wishful thinking. I really want S4 to have Bart as a main character since I believe the future will be strong plot point in the season. Development could surely happen such as Bart opening up more about what he went through. Let all those feelings go.
I’m going to write an article on my hopes for S4 when a release date is announced. Bart and Wally will most definitely be talked about.
 …..
We are finally near the end!
And my No. 1 favorite character is…
Drumroll please!
..
.
Tumblr media
1.Artemis Crock/Tigress/Artemis
That’s right people!
Artemis Crock, original member of the Team and daughter of villains!
She is such an inspiration to anyone who wants to go their own past without their parents’ support.
It’s hard to describe how much I love Artemis. She’s brave, strong-willed, and a kind person. It’s crazy how great of a person she is after all the terrible things that happened to her. I look up to her because I don’t have a healthy relationship with my parents (verbal and mental abuse) and there are times I don’t feel strong enough to stand on my own. I want to carry the amount of strength Artemis has as my own.
After all that happened in S2, it was amazing to see Artemis come back to the team and train the new generation. It must have been hard to walk away from a safe, comfortable life for a chaotic, dangerous life. I admire that in everyone, but I hold more respect for Artemis since “the life” “killed” Wally. I wanted to hug her so bad.
She’s also one of the kindest people in the show, the events in S3 being the best example. When Zatanna was crying about her dad, Artemis was there to comfort her. It was so sweet! Roy and her also took in Halo and Terra like they were a part of the family; the archer treated them like the best big sister. That rainstorm scene was heartwarming to the core.
Wouldn’t Artemis be an amazing mother? Lian and her have a strong bond like a mother and daughter; I loved it, and Lian is in good hands with Roy and Artemis. Though Jade deserves a chance to be a mother. Artemis also seemed to enjoy taking care of those kids in that S1 episode. Wally too. You guys know what I’m guys insinuating. 😉
Get ready for some fanfics on that someday.
My favorite Artemis-centered episode was the second to last episode of S3. I was waiting for this episode centering around Artemis missing Wally and learning to move on. It was great yet heartbreaking. Nothing bad happened. That Will and Artemis kiss never happened. Everyone makes a mistake. No matter how terrible it was.
Anyway, seeing Artemis and Wally living their lives and having a baby gave me life, even if it was fake. It was a vision of the future. I will believe this until there is confirmation that Wally will not come back.
Did anyone else cry when Artemis was so desperate to, but Wally wouldn’t let that happen (the real Wally would do that)? They are a great example of a healthy relationship with all the love and support they have for each other. I want that.

Gavin's 'Falling Slowly' and Film 'Once'- Analysis
Since the beginning, I’ve wanted to do an analysis on the song Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, but since it was only mentioned twice (in Mark Date and Gavin’s Music and the Past Call), I thought it was going to be left at that. But because of the mention again in @cheri-translates' post, perhaps... there could be more to it. Because this song was made for the film Once, I had actually watched it earlier this year. I wasn’t going to post this analysis originally, but the trailer literally made me cry. After watching it with the knowledge from my first viewing, the trailer had a bigger impact on me that I didn’t expect. This allowed me to push on. Rewatching the film for this helped me realise some parallels between the film and Gavin’s history with MC, along with its song Falling Slowly. For me, the film was so heartfelt, vulnerable, honest and real. Just like the side that Gavin shows MC. It also had super hilarious moments that made me laugh so much while crying over the sad bits. Highly recommend this movie (if you don’t mind some occasional cursing!) Now I can say I’ve watched Once twice.
Below contains spoilers for Gavin's CN content (referring to Cheri's translations) and on the film.
“Your performance… was a miracle to me.” -Gavin
youtube
Once is a 2007 Irish romantic drama about two struggling artists in Dublin, Ireland. The film was turned into a musical and won various awards, with Falling Slowly winning at the Critics’ Choice Awards and the 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song. This was on top of receiving a Grammy nomination. Once only had a budget of only $150,000 USD.
In an Interview with Glen Hansard (male lead), he stated that during the scene of Falling Slowly in the music store, director John Carney wanted this shot to be the centrepiece- just two musicians connecting through music. This scene where the actors first got together to perform and sing in harmony allowed the crew to maintain the perseverance needed to finish the film despite various major setbacks. (People kept buying the same piano in the music store featured because of this film LOL)
“The closest a non-musician will ever get to feeling what it feels like to write the song… or to discover… it was the most moving scenes of the film.” -The Interviewer
The first impression some viewers may have upon watching would be criticising the shakiness of the handheld cameras. However, the actual intention (from the ex-film student perspective that I had) was to give it a sense of realism. This film aims to depict more of real-life from the perspective of the main characters. Even the characters' names weren't disclosed as they were literally 'unknown artists' in everyday life. It was ultimately based on Carney’s own personal experience, while Hansard, wrote the music for the film.
“The movie is sad, funny, real, everything that life is and it gives you hope. It's about a moment that happens in life that may not come by again or may not last forever, but it just might have the greatest impact on you. I know I'll be watching "Once" again.” -A fellow Once viewer.
We are introduced to the male lead (Guy), playing the guitar and wanting to make it big with his music, who also fixes vacuums with his father for a living. He meets the female lead (Girl) and she bugs him into fixing her vacuum. In the beginning, he’s cold and doesn’t want to associate with her (especially after when she gives him 10 cents for his busking).
Look how grateful he looks-
Tumblr media
Even when Gavin and MC met again after their separation, Gavin puts up a fragile guard in front of MC while protecting her from a distance, like in high school. And just like how Joe Zieja stated in his MLQC interview-
“Gavin is a really interesting character, especially when we first started out before he and the producer really had a relationship… Gavin’s very cold. He’s very business-like, he just wants to get stuff done. But it’s really neat to see Gavin’s shell melt over time as he develops a relationship with the producer.”
In the film, Guy finds out that Girl can play the piano, who learned it from her father before he passed. Turns out, Guy is heartbroken from his ex (who’s currently in London) who cheated on him. Girl tries to convince him to get her back with his songs.
Similarly, Gavin discovers MC’s music during his fall shown Campus Date, in the moments where he received his Evol. Gavin devotes his life to protect her.
(I also did a timeline of MC and Gavin’s high school history together here that also references these parts.)
*Casually dragging vacuum*
Tumblr media
Together, they go to a music store and she plays Mendelssohn for him. Then finally, at 15:42 of the film, they start to play Falling Slowly.
(So good! So good!! When they start harmonising!!! No fancy editing or cuts- it’s just two artists and pure music.)
Tumblr media
Through music, they connect with each other’s souls. Just like how MC saves Gavin with her music that fateful day. And soon enough, Gavin comes across MC playing another song in the music room.
That song was Falling Slowly. He doesn’t know the name of the song though, only remembering the melody. Later, he learns how to play the guitar because he liked it and thought that perhaps he could perform it to his special someone one day. Such moments had inspired Gavin to write and make his own songs then record them onto his CDs so that maybe one day she could listen to them.
A thought I had was that did Gavin hear the piano and decide to make a guitar version, only to figure out that he was the missing piece?
Even the music store owner was very impressed-
Tumblr media
Just like how Gavin slowly begins to soften up to MC, in the film, the instrumental of Falling Slowly plays when Guy and Girl start to bond. Guy tries to talk to her more but she states that she “has responsibilities”. It’s revealed that she has a daughter at home and a husband still in the Czech Republic. Even so, together, they write and record songs for his journey to London- back to his ex and to pursue his dreams as a musician.
Tumblr media
Later, they go out for a spin on his father’s motorbike- he even prepared another helmet for her (SPARKY 2.0??). He asks her to teach him how to say “how much do you love him?” in Czech when they talk about her husband upon finding out that she’s married. She replies with, “it is you I love” in Czech. But he has no idea what she said. (*Grips heart*)
He wants her to go to London with him, start a band, and sell out shows. But she can’t. The song they recorded together “When your mind’s made up” (I have this song on repeat) plays in the car as they drive to the beach before he leaves for London the next morning.
So, if you want something And you call, call Then I'll come running To fight and I'll be at your door When there's nothing worth running for
The music producer is clearly so impressed-
Tumblr media
Together, they schedule a time to meet up just before he leaves for the airport. Guy waited all night till morning for her.
But she still doesn’t come. And that was the last time he ever saw her. Just like how MC wasn't able to see Gavin who waited the whole day before he left. This was shown in Old Days Date that I did a heart-gripping analysis on here.
Tumblr media
Guy’s father had said, “make your Ma proud.” (*Cries upon remembering Gavin’s loving mother*)
In the end, still unable to reach her, Guy gifts Girl a piano. In the beginning, they had a conversation where they spoke about pianos being too expensive, hence why she kept going to the music store in order to be able to play. Even though they are both short on money, he still manages to buy her a piano- the same one they played Falling Slowly together.
And while the film comes to an end, Falling Slowly plays in the background while Guy is off to the airport.
*Dramatic power-walking*
Tumblr media
This was a heartbreaking ending for the viewers because not only that they didn’t end up together, they weren’t able to see each other before he left. And it wasn’t disclosed why she couldn’t make it.
Nothing too fancy happens because again, this was to show a slice of real life, and this proves it to be more tragic and beautiful. It can’t really be described unless it’s experienced. And I had the chance of viewing it not once, but twice.
This film (and song) is important for Gavin and MC because, despite their complicated history of misunderstandings, he always wants to put their relationship first and make the most out of what they have now together. Girl had helped Guy achieve his record deal and pursue his dreams. She had done her part on his journey to becoming an artist and both had to part ways. Without her, he wouldn’t have been able to record his songs and leave. Likewise, without MC, Gavin wouldn’t be the man he is today (hence, Winter World). Gavin is very vocal about this as well.
Gavin lowers his head, and the light follows his movement, descending onto the scrapbook, illuminating every word he writes- “I’m very happy to have met you in the past.” -CN Mark Date
“It doesn’t matter what happened in the past. What matters is every moment I spend with you now.” -Sugar Figurine Phone Call
“Seeing you again is the best present I could hope for.” -The Best Gift Phone Call
"Even though I'm curious about the future as well... I care more about the present. For me, it's good enough to seize the day. As long as you're here. The next second will be everything I need. Protecting what I have now, is the best plan for the future." -School Legend ASMR
With Falling Slowly, it’s quite a straightforward, romantic song. Originally in the film, Guy wrote it about his ex-girlfriend so it does has some sad lyrics. MC didn't know how Gavin knew about it.
Teacher Zheng: Just now, MC mentioned that you play the guitar and bass incredibly. Could you let me hear it? It’d be best if the two of you could play together. I haven’t heard my Orchestra Leader play the piano in a very long time.
To be honest, this is not a “request” at all. If Teacher Zheng wants to hear it, I’ll definitely be willing to play for her. But Gavin…
I cast Gavin a probing glance, wondering if there’s a need to persuade him. To my surprise, he nods.
Gavin: I could, but I’m really not as skilled as she says.
Teacher Zheng: Haha that’s all right. I just want you to use your heart when performing. What’s important isn’t how good it sounds, but the heart.
Gavin: Could I borrow the guitar over there?
Teacher Zheng: Of course.
Basically shown in Mark Date, Gavin’s been preparing for this moment all this time. He already knows what song to play. And what’s so amazing is that the first instrument we hear is the guitar which leads the piano. Therefore, once Gavin plays his piece, MC would know what song it is and then join in with her piano. AND THEY WOULD SING TOGETHER.
Maybe it’s just my misperception, or the sunlight just happened to fall onto his eyes, but I keep feeling as though his eyes are even brighter than usual. It’s as though they are flashing with light.
This is a slightly melancholic song, but the moving light and wind seem to make it refreshing and clear.
🎶 Lyrics 🎶
It's a slower song to help listeners slowly take in the emotions, lyrics and main dueting instruments of piano and guitar with the occasional violin in the back. It's so simple, and yet so powerful.
The guitar has its solos and the piano appears more prominent in the chorus. In the beginning, it's just the guitar, with the piano joining in after.
[GUY & GIRL] I don't know you but I want you All the more for that Words fall through me and always fool me And I can't react And games that never amount To more than they're meant Will play themselves out
Gavin never got the chance to be close to MC in high school, so he showed his affection through other methods. He walked 10 metres behind her after school and was her silent guardian against those who had negative intentions towards her. In the library, he had tried to introduce himself to her, but she had already dashed off.
Before waiting for him to say the introduction he had rehearsed countless times in his heart, the girl had already uttered a “thank you” and hurriedly fled. -CN Tilted Time Rumours and Secrets
Gavin couldn't help but develop this softer side for her and didn’t know how to control it or express it other than doing things such as leaving strawberry milk on the piano and learning guitar in hopes of playing it for her one day.
Those "games" he's referring to were those things they did, such as MC smiling at him when crossing each others' paths in the hallways, and Gavin buying her hot drinks and only looking at her among the snowball fight chaos at school in the Winter. Gavin has no power over how everything will turn out, nor does he try to have complete control over it either.
"... I believe that some things are destined. Like..." -Gacha and Destiny Phone Call
[GUY & GIRL] Take this sinking boat and point it home We've still got time
This "sinking boat" of the relationship is what they're both trying to save. For Gavin, this could be suggested to be about himself.
In a split second, the noise ceases abruptly. After a moment of silence, whispers surface in the crowd. Vaguely, I can catch a few phrases.
“Bad.” “Fighting.” “Misfit.” -CN Mark Date
Gavin had a tough time in high school being the outcast, but MC kept him going, fighting in the name of justice. And had quite literally saved his life. She was his lighthouse when he was battling the rough waters back home. And MC- she was also his home.
“As he clenched his fists, a power deep down within awakened. It was a rapture of rebirth. A declaration of the end of darkness and the advent of the light.” -Campus Date
[GUY & GIRL] Raise your hopeful voice, you have a choice You've made it now
Gavin wants her to realise his feelings, be around and talk to him more- and say "yes". But even so, he still gives her a choice not to, and would have to live with that. Gavin thought she already had when he departed and spent years thinking that her absence showed all of what had to be said.
[GUY & GIRL] Falling slowly, eyes that know me And I can't go back
Gavin's falling slowly for MC (compared to when he fell really fast before MC saved him LOL). Once he starts, he can and would never go back. He hopes that MC would see him the way he truly is.
MC: “I have one more thing to tell you. MC is a bit slow. She is not as good as you think, and will also be blinded by rumours…”
Gavin: “She’s a very nice person. What she thinks of me has nothing to do with anyone else." -Old Days Date
[GUY & GIRL] Moods that take me and erase me And I'm painted black
Gavin can't handle his feelings. (*Cries*)
After being in a daze in the piano room, he’d be in a daze in the library, continuously staring at the empty seat where MC used to sit, and I have no idea what he’s thinking about.
But I really didn't expect a person who sleeps in class to be in a daze in the library for an entire afternoon... Did Bro Gavin and MC have a fight recently? -CN Minor's Memos
[GUY] You have suffered enough And warred with yourself It's time that you won
He states that he understands that the girl had it rough, but if she was to be with him, she wouldn't get hurt. Gavin wants to be the one for her.
"MC, I want to make you happy forever. If... I hope that person is me." -First Year In-Game Birthday Visit
[GUY & GIRL] Take this sinking boat and point it home We've still got time Raise your hopeful voice, you have a choice You've made it now
[GUY & GIRL] Falling slowly, sing your melody I'll sing it loud
Gavin recognises MC's "melody", and urges her to sing (her presence) and Gavin will listen and follow, singing his one, too. Together they will harmonise.
[GUY] Take it all Oh, I played the cards too late Now it's gone
The song finally ends with both the guitar and piano, whereas at the beginning it was just the guitar.
This part is the most powerful and heartbreaking. Gavin regretted not giving the farewell letter to MC directly- from "playing the cards too late", then suffers the loss of her, her presence, and her melody.
But fortunately, in the end, Gavin successfully returned home- to MC.
Tumblr media
"Want to play for a while tonight? I haven’t heard you playing the piano in a long time too.
If possible, I’d like to make a song request.
How about “Falling Slowly”?
We could sit by the window and play it together again." -CN Gavin’s Weekly Text - Piano Concert
Tumblr media
Somewhere, Gavin is happily playing Falling Slowly with MC.

Best Carol/Melissa Episodes
Tumblr media
So I got bored in Quarantine and I was so moved by Look At The Flowers that I decided to make this list of the best episodes that either feature Carol/Melissa as a lead or she plays a large part in them. I haven’t seen S1-2 since like... 2014 as they’re my least favorite (i know i’m sorry but i did include honorable mentions) but I’m so freaking proud that I couldn’t not make this list. Here we go! Feel free to add to them! ** means they’re my favorite performances of Melissa! I do mention some scenes that are also with Norman/Daryl as he is a LARGE part of who Carol is. If you think it’s ‘’shippy’’ which it might be, don't read it. I worked on this for almost two hours.
season 1
- for real, what woman keeps a grenade on hand? That was it. That was where I started paying attention to her.
- also, the scene where she digs the pickaxe into Ed’s head? I think Daryl and I both fell for her then.
season 2
- the honorable mention!! the barn scene in which carol learns the fate of her daughter. I don’t remember most of s2, but this one I do. I think this might’ve been the first point in the show where I was like, “Hey Google, how to protect someone who isn’t real.’’
season 3
- walk with me: We get to see how Carol has changed during her time on the road after the farm and how much she’s learned. This is also, unfortunately, the last time we see her for a couple episodes until Daryl finds her in the cells below.
- hounded: daryl finds carol. It’s sweet, it’s warm and soft and there’s alot of reunions and alot of mourning over T-Dog and Lori.
season 4
- Carol has become a leader in her own right for this season. She teaches the kids how to defend themselves during the ruse of a story time and takes on Lizzie and Mika as her own after Ryan is bit.
- indifference: After killing Karen and David to stop the spread out a virus, Rick takes it into his own hands to banish Carol. This one hurts too because it’s quite obvious why she did it. She did it to protect herself and the people she loves, but sometimes that’s just not enough.
- the grove: emmy emmy emmy emmy material. Holy crap, I CANNOT stress this enough! This is the make or break episode for Carol as a character. There’s beauty and devastation and anguish all wrapped up into 45 minutes. This should’ve made Melissa well known. This should’ve won her multiple awards, and it didn’t. But we know. We know.
season 5
- sanctuary: this one goes down in history for multiple reasons, and most of us know them. 1.) Caryl reunions galore. Even if you don’t ship it, that moment is so, so sweet. 2.) If it weren’t for Carol, your fave would be dead. That’s literally it.
- consumed: OOF. Really.
- The back half of season 5 after the arrival at Alexandria is hilarious to me. Because these people are so sheltered from the darkness and the cruelty of the outside world that Carol takes on their own persona to blend in with them, to know the naivety of these people and to hide easily among them to get what she needs. This is also how she befriends Sam, who probably reminds her of Sophia which is why she’s so cruel to him.
season 6
- jss**: ‘’Miss Peletier, you are an honest to goodness hero.” No. Freaking. Way.  I remember watching this episode and rocking back and forth on my heels in anticipation because up until this point, I think this might’ve been one of the bloodiest moments in the show - and right in the center of it all is Carol - who is now of the mindset that, ‘’hey, we need to kill, we don’t have a choice.’’ and she portrays the internal struggle behind all of this so, so well. The scene with Melissa holding the body on the stairs was what won me over for this episode. It’s very much a merciless 45 minutes.
- no way out: Carol is not a lead in this episode, but Melissa is very heavily influenced between this one and the previous because of her confrontation with Morgan. I remember how angry that made me, having to watch him bodyslam her (a former domestic abuse victim) against the floor. Outside of Carol, this episode is one of my favorites in the show.
- not tomorrow yet/the same boat**: Carol moreso plays a bigger part in the latter as opposed to the former, but these two episodes really showcase two things: Her heart to protect her family (IE: A now pregnant Maggie) and her deteriorating mental state. Outside of The Grove, I think this is one of Melissa’s most powerful performances. it’s also the only female led ep in the show
- east**: I cried the first time I watched this. Carol vs The Saviors, #2. This episode breaks between Morgan and Rick going out to look for her (HENCE ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE QUOTES ABOUT CAROL: “That woman, she’s a force of nature.) I don’t think I really understood the power behind the eyes in the midst of television until I saw this episode. I can’t find the gif, but I’m sure most of you who’re reading this know what I’m talking about.
- last day on earth**: again this episode shifts between perspectives as TF is trying to get Maggie to Hilltop for her pregnancy complication, but Melissa is stellar here. Carol doesn’t want to love because if she loves, she has to kill, and she attempts to manipulate one of the survivors from the massacre into doing what she can’t: taking her own life. She just wants to go, and Morgan won’t let her. This one is a bit darker, and the episode as a whole is not my favorite, but it’s definitely up there in my favorite performances for Melissa.
season 7
- the well: if there was ever an episode that would show you that Melissa aces comedy, it was this one. This is meant to be an introductory to The Kingdom, but the hilarity behind the way Carol talks to Ezekiel is so entertaining. It’s kind of hard to believe she ends up marrying the man (we’re not going into shipper discourse here, friends) but this one also shows you something through Carol’s eyes: The differences between people and walkers and her desire not to kill. She wants to hide, and she does.
- new best friends: Daryl lies to Carol about what happened in the clearing with Negan. This one is so so heartfelt. It’s deeply intimate. It showcases two people who’d move heaven and earth to ensure the safety of the other, both physical and mental and emotional. Norman and Melissa aced this. I can’t say it more simply then that.
- bury me here**: I love love love love love this episode. The entire thing is a metaphor, but I love it anyway. If I remember right, this is also the one where Morgan tells Carol about Glenn and Abraham. Remember what I said about the power behind a look? This is another instance in which Melissa shows she is the master of this.
- carol spends alot of the time at the kingdom for the rest of the season and i cannot really remember any more memorable performances for this garbage, as they took my fave and reduced her to a side character for this and most of s8.
season 8
- the only performance i will give any credit to in this season is 8x04, which is Some Guy. I barely remember the rest of it. Minus the moment where she finally saves a kid - Henry - instead of losing one. And a heartbreaking moment between her and Morgan that I also barely remember. Case in point, S8 was and still is garbage.
season 9
- 9x01-9x05 all have Carol in them because whenever Angela Kang took over the show, she had the brilliant idea to actually use her lead women as leads. Season 9 feels like an eternity ago and I can’t remember if she took over before or after AL signed off, but my point remains. Between Carol’s loyalty to Ezekiel because of Henry, (who she has now taken as her son), and their marriage, and her short stint as the leader of the Sanctuary as Negan is in confinement, there’s something in Carol here we haven’t seen in years. It’s something akin to peace, or as close as she’s gonna get to it. 9x03 and 9x04 (particularly the conversation b/t Rick and Carol) are my favorite of this cluster for her.
- I almost dropped off after 9x05. I thought that was it, I thought that was gonna be where I ended. Nope. This woman - AK- took this show and made it what it had been and I’ll never be able to thank her enough for it.
- Who Are You Now: I only remember this one because of the scene where Carol and Henry are in the carriage - side note: I really need to go back and rewatch this season again - but one of the things that caught my attention about the after of the bridge was how the relationships b/t parent and child are approached as significant. They’re not the future. The adults are building for the future of the kids. Michonne/Judith, Ezekiel/Henry and Carol/Henry. It’s sweet. Very sweet.
- Stradivarius: this is a very Caryl heavy episode, but we find out something here: Even with being married to Ezekiel, Carol has still gone out to see Daryl where he resides by the same river that took Rick. Henry sees the relationship between him and his mother. It’s as obvious as the nose on your face. This one is just adorable. I love it.
- The Calm Before**: Ow. OW OW OW OW OW. You want more pain? Here you go! Carol faces the dark truth as she crests the hill that holds her worst nightmare: Henry has died. She’s lost another kid. You wanna restrain yourself from breaking through the TV to comfort Carol for the umpteenth time as she breaks? Cool. That’s what you get here.
- The Storm**: Split apart by the death of Henry, Carol and Ezekiel no longer remain married. She gives up that fairytale - one of the happiest she’d ever had - and begins wallowing in her suffering over the loss of her son. Heartbreak and grief do not come easily to her. They never have. Can you imagine being suffocated by things you’ve never talked about? Can you imagine having to live every day with your grief? Well, look here... that’s exactly what Carol does, and you want to know who her guiding force is?
It’s Daryl.
season 10
- I remember when Season 10 aired, I watched the first episode in Kenya and loved it. I’d heard something about how PTSD was a BIG factor in the progression of the story throughout this season, and as someone who wants to go into mental health counseling, I was so intrigued by this that every single episode kept my eyes glued to the TV. Carol is the lead female now besides Michonne, but I’m gonna tell you every single favorite episode of mine anyway.
- Ghosts: Carol makes a mistake and fires at Alpha when they meet her at the border. She wears a mask that’s so composed it’s almost hard to see the heartbreak beneath it, and that’s the point. She’s not considering her life. She’s considering vengeance for the life that was taken. This is a constant circle for her. Alot of people are tired of this arc and I get it, I do. But the difference between this one and the three seasons previous is that we’re meant to get to a resolution now. This episode broke my heart. Especially the last scene in the gym.
- Bonds: Another Caryl heavy episode. I love this one. It’s very lighthearted compared to the rest of the season.
- Open Your Eyes**: This one is utterly terrifying and eerily reminiscent of the one in S2 where Daryl interrogates Randall. Carol, having just brought back a Whisperer from her escapade with Daryl, interrogates him to find out the location of Alpha’s horde without any real consideration for the people around her. She also uses Lydia for her own personal gain, and I’m not gonna lie - Even though this one is one of my favorites because of Avi Nash (WHO WAS SUCH A GOOD ADDITION TO THE SHOW I LOVED HIM AS SIDDIQ) This episode made me so angry because of Carol’s motives.
-  The World Before**: And when I said I was angry, this episode turned it all into heartbreak. This one remains one of my favorite of the show and of Carol for one very specific reason: The scene in the woods between her and Daryl.
Tumblr media
As someone who has never done grieving well, this scene hit me so. hard. She’s so set on this path of vengeance and blood that she’s neglecting a very real truth that she has never done well: talking about her burdens, talking about the pain and if she does that, if she acknowledges it, then she will hurt.
- Squeeze: I don’t have to talk about this. I just have to show you.
Tumblr media
Ow. Please, please let her heal. I’m so tired of seeing her hurt.
- 10x11 and 10x12 don’t really have Carol, and neither does 10x13, but she’s there. We see her a couple of times, we have a conversation or two. Let me get to the penultimate moment. One we’ve waited for years to see and which next week will give us the rest of.
- LOOK AT THE FLOWERS*****: You can be a Carol fan for five minutes or five years and still somehow managed to love her MORE after watching this one. There’s a couple reasons why this one is probably in my top 3 for both Melissa and Carol as a whole.
1. I have waited years to see Negan meet Carol. JDM has made it very clear how he feels about MMB and I knew, I knew, that once this interaction happened I would not be disappointed. I should’ve realized she was the one who let Negan out, but I didn’t. That entire first scene is gold.
2. This entire episode is just.. art. The fact that Carol’s darker side takes the form of the being of her hatred - Alpha - is fitting, and it’s also the first time we’ve really gotten an actual dialogue about multiple things that have formed her character for the last several seasons: The Grove, the loss of Sophia, Ed... It’s heartbreaking to see because she keeps telling herself pushing people away is better, it’s better to be alone because there’s no one to burden, and the darker side of her asks a very simple question: What do you want?
Her answer is clear, at least to her. I want to be alone. But the fact that the darker part of her, the one that keeps calling out on Connie, doesn’t agree. No. There’s something deeper. Something she’s too afraid to acknowledge.
3. That whole final scene. Wow. I’ve watched it like four times because Samantha Morton is just so good as Alpha, as Carol’s dark counterpart, trying to mock and taunt her into doing the one thing she never was able to do herself: Dying. This episode is dark because of this realization. “Look at the flowers’’ is akin to ‘’It’ll all be over soon.” but instead of choosing death, instead  of choosing the one thing that would let it be over, she chooses life. She essentially chooses to fight for herself which she has not done in YEARS. The minute she acknowledges that it’s never too late (FOR WHAT?? HM??) the demons disappear. I think that this point into 10x15 will give us two things that every Carol fan is desperate for: Healing for Carol (FINALLY!), and a resolution to this endless arc of suffering.
Also... Why do we think that Daryl is the one who ends up welcoming her home? Why is he the one who opens the gate?
Long story short: I love this character. I love Melissa McBride as she is one of the most down-to-earth, humble and compassionate actresses in Hollywood. It’s a shame she’s not gonna be recognized by The Academy because if ever there was an actor/actress on this show to win, it’d be her.

The Untamed/陈情令 Rewatch, Episode 13, Part 1 of 2
(spoilers for everything MDZS/Untamed)
[covers MDZS chapters 52, 53 and 54]
WangXian meter: 🐰🐰🐰+🐰🐰+🐰🐰+🐰🐰+🐰🐰+🐰🐰🐰+🐰🐰🐰+🐰🐰+🐰🐰+🐰+🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰
(Each WangXian scene automatically gets one 🐰 even if they’re just thinking of each other; one scene can earn up to five 🐰 depending on the intensity of WangXian-ness. Each scene is separated by an “+”. In rare instances, certain WangXian scenes are so full of WangXian love that they warrant more than five 🐰...the last scene of this episode is a prime example of such an instance)
The last 10 minutes of this episode, starting from this moment, is probably one of the most giffed, vidded, screencapped, blogged, reblogged, tweeted, retweeted, etc scene in the entire show, so there’s really not much more I could say about it that hasn’t already been stated and echoed by many, many others. Suffice it to say I absolutely love it: I love how the scene was constructed and performed, and I am still amazed that it exists at all. It is perfect, adorable, hilarious, and simply precious. Even though it is still a few degrees tamer than its novel counterpart (I’ll get into that in the second part of the post), the scene still managed to fully capture the spirit of the original. It really is so damn perfect, thanks in large part to Lan Zhan’s sublime reactions. Seriously from now on, under “gay panic” they should just show Lan Zhan’s face while Wei Ying is taking off his clothes:
Tumblr media
Strangely enough, this disrobing moment always reminds me of a WangXian scene that occurs much later, during Wei Ying’s second lifetime, which was left out of The Untamed because...well, there really is no bromance way to interpret it. It’s the scene in Lotus Pier when Wei Ying is up in the tree looking down at Lan Zhan, and he thinks, “if he catches me, I’ll....” For some reason, whenever I watch this moment, I instantly think of that scene, except in this case, I always imagine Lan Zhan thinking, “If he takes off his clothes, I’ll....” The sentiments and circumstances between the two scenes are hardly related, and yet I feel a similarity between them because in both instances, figuratively speaking, the person directly affected—Lan Zhan in this case while in the Lotus Pier scenario it’s Wei Ying—seems to be standing at the edge of an emotional precipice, and a little nudge is all it’ll take for them to fall right over and become overtaken by the emotions they were feeling. For the later Lotus Pier scene, Lan Zhan does catch Wei Ying, and I think that’s when he realizes his feelings for Lan Zhan. Whereas with this moment, I don’t know what would’ve happened if Wei Ying had successfully taken off all his clothes in front of Lan Zhan, but I feel that Lan Zhan was deathly afraid to find out himself, hence, his overreaction.
~~~
I love that Wei Ying pulled that stunt because he figured Lan Zhan was such a prim and proper fuddy-duddy that the idea of being naked or seeing someone else naked would've been enough to shock him into spitting up his bad blood. While that isn’t an unreasonable assumption, it doesn’t quite hold water since we’ve been seeing how Lan Zhan is around Wei Ying all this time and had been privy to his point of view leading up to this moment. As a result, I feel like there’s two realities going on at the same time: what Wei Ying thinks is happening and what Lan Zhan is actually experiencing, which is sheer panic because he already had feelings for Wei Ying but has been more or less keeping a tight control over his emotions. With Wei Ying’s in advertent act of temptation, his control was quickly slipping away. It’s no wonder he became so overwhelmed that he vomited up all that blood; it's like an anime’s equivalent of a nosebleed.
Tumblr media
Wang Yibo really hit it out of the park with his performance in this entire scene: I was truly impressed with how he so capably brought to life the spectrum of tumultuous feelings Lan Zhan was experiencing. While Xiao Zhan has plenty of opportunities to emote due to the nature of Wei Wuxian’s character, Wang Yibo naturally has the shorter end of the stick due to Lan Zhan’s stoic nature, so most of his emoting is usually restricted to just his eyes. As a result, chances for him to fully break out of that restrained façade is rather rare, and I think he really relished the opportunity, taking full advantage of it and gave it his all in the limited capacity that he was able to without getting out of character. His reactions really ran the gamut of emotions: there was pain (due to his injury), shock, confusion, indignation, the aforementioned panic...erm...vomiting, then gratitude, jealousy, displeasure, hope, annoyance, and finally sadness about Cloud Recesses and his family. No wonder he fell asleep shortly after, he must’ve been exhausted from emoting alone.
Tumblr media
I think it's a significant point that Wei Ying mentions that Lan Zhan has never spoken to him as much as he had in the cave since I believe it is here that Lan Zhan has finally, truly fallen in love with Wei Ying. That’s part of the reason why he opened up to him much more than he has ever done with anyone else except for Big Brother Xichen. I’ll hold off on talking more about this until the next episode but I would definitely consider the Xuanwu cave as a landmark event in their relationship, especially for Lan Zhan. In the novel, he actually starts crying in front of Wei Ying because of what happened to his home and his family. Here in the show, while he did get teary-eyed talking about Cloud Recesses...
Tumblr media
...he still obviously held back, not letting his tears actually fall.  At first I thought it was a shame that Team CQL made that change from the book since it was such a heart-breaking yet sweet moment, but since my initial viewing of this episode I’ve learned to really appreciate that choice. It means that the only times Lan Zhan has ever really cried was because of Wei Wuxian.  That’s just so utterly beautiful it makes me emotional.
Still, the fact that Lan Zhan had such a moment of vulnerability in front of Wei Ying was a strong indication of how much their relationship has deepened. Even during their journey to the Xuanwu cave, there were a number of small yet significant moments that further illustrated the steady growth of their bond. As usual, they were constantly focused on each other, always aware of what was happening to the other person so that they could offer support. In addition to offering Lan Zhan a piggyback ride and then asking Wen Qing to slow down the procession for his sake, Wei Ying was generally just so attentive to Lan Zhan, bringing him water during their rest stop, which actually earned him a rare smile...
Tumblr media
...and then when they got moving again, Wei Ying was right by Lan Zhan’s side to help him.
Tumblr media
Even if Wei Ying’s attentiveness can be attributed to his considerate nature, what adds meaning to their interaction is Lan Zhan’s behavior in return, since he’s constantly going against his known reticent nature by exhibiting his concern for Wei Ying, such as when he worriedly calls out Wei Ying’s name after Wen Chao kicks him over the ledge:
Tumblr media
It’s like once again, seeing Wei Ying endangered, Lan Zhan forgets all caution and his surroundings and just zeroes in on Wei Ying.  Even though he was seriously injured, he still raced down those ropes to the bottom of the cave so that he could help Wei Ying.
Tumblr media
Not to mention, while they were distracting the Xuanwu so that the others can escape, Lan Zhan pretty much sacrificed himself to protect Wei Ying, thereby worsening his leg injury.
Tumblr media
 Interestingly, in the original version of that scene, Lan Zhan actually got caught in the jaws of the Xuanwu so Wei Ying had to jump in to rescue him, which resulted in him carrying Lan Zhan on his back. In other words, Wei Ying did actually end up giving Lan Zhan a piggyback ride after all. I’m not quite sure why Team CQL decided to omit that detail. If it’s a censorship issue, carrying an injured person on one’s back seems a reasonable enough thing to do...and it’s not like there wasn’t a piggyback ride later on. If it’s a strength issue on the actors’ part, if Wang Yibo can manage to carry Xiao Zhan, I’m sure Xiao Zhan could have done the same to him, especially since he has a few inches of height on WYB. I really can’t figure out why they omitted the piggyback ride in the drama. Strangely enough, the donghua also left out the piggyback ride as well. Again, considering what they kept in the scene (Wei Ying is half-naked, Lan Zhan touches the brand on his bare chest), it is rather puzzling why a relatively harmless piggyback ride didn’t make the cut.
Glee Memories: 1x6 Vitamin D
A long, long time ago, as Glee was approaching graduation in Season 3, I found myself nostalgic with some rare free time on my hands. So I decided to rewatch the series from the beginning and jot down some memories, discrepancies that have arisen since, fave quotes, tally solos - all that good stuff, strictly for shits and giggles.
8 years later (eek!) and once more I find myself with an unexpected abundance of free time. With so many revisiting or being newly introduced to the show between binge watching during Quarantine and all the tragedy that has surrounded the show since it went off the air, I figured I’d finish what I started. And by finish, I mean go through the end of S3. Cause I truly cannot acknowledge what happened after that. Except for 5B.
Kicking this off by reposting the first 15 episodes I already went through. Enjoy!
1x6 Vitamin D Mr. Schue is worried cause the Glee club is being lazy and complacent. First time and still true until Sue came along to help the club.
Mmmmkay. And now Mercedes starts dressing kinda funky. Oh goody. :/
Ugh. Listen, I have adored Matthew Morrison since I saw him in Hairspray 10 years ago, but it’s still not at all appealing when he tries to lick that mustard off his own chin.
“I will hold my tongue no further.”
”You have to remember something: we’re dealing with children. They need to be terrified. It’s like mother’s milk to them. Without it, their bones won’t grow properly.”
“Ellen, that blouse is just insane.”
”I don’t understand how lightening is in competition with an above ground swimming pool”
BOYS V. GIRLS FOR THE FIRST TIME! <3
“Okay, split up: guys on the right side, girls on the left side…Kurt” *gestures for him to join the boys, not the girls* Kurt looks soooo pissed. And is such a baby-faced nugget!
A Mash-Up was just defined and used for the first time.
”We’re planning on smacking them down like the hand of God” yaaaaay, Sue’s Journal entries! I miss those. Hey, did she ever get that hovercraft she was working towards?
”Let me be frank: your husband is hiding his kielbasa in a Hickory Farms gift basket that doesn’t belong to you.”
”I’ve always thought the desire to procreate showed deep personal weakness. Me? Never wanted kids. Don’t have the time, don’t have the uterus.” #oops
“I think you should both pack up and move out of the district. Unless you wanna lose your man to a mentally ill ginger pygmy with eyes like a bush baby”
the Matthew Morrison mustard licking is even less appealing in slow motion. Ew.
Terri just wiped Emma’s mug off with her own spit. Even if you didn’t have OCD, that is not right.
“But you’re not a nurse. You don’t have any training…” “Oh please, Will – it’s a public school.”
Wait…Mr. Schue seems to be teaching music theory? WTF? Has this happened before? Since?
“She freaks me out in a Swim Fan kinda way”
“But her body’s smokin’…if you’re not into boobs” Finn re: Rachel
I don’t think I ever caught this before – Finn is rubbing BioFreeze on his legs and accidentally scratches near his eye…and you can see the effect set in and then he spazzes out. Ha! #BlessFinnsHeart
“My mom says I’m stretched too thin so I gave up homework but that didn’t help” #BlessFinnsHeart
“Puck, with respect, you’re more helpful when you don’t contribute”
“Where’s Quinn?” “Probably down at the mall looking for elastic waistbands”
“Let’s do the number and then build a house for Habitat for Humanity” oh, Finn on ‘vitamin d’. He has the mind of a child. Especially during this performance. Holy crap!
“No one at Glee is gonna judge you.” Oh, that will change Rachel.
Hahahaha, Quinn drew pornographic pictures of Rachel on the bathroom walls. I miss when Quinn hated Rachel. Just a little bit. Cause she did it so well and right now it would please my soul to see some of that.
Poor Howard Bamboo is so terrified of Terri and just pitiful. I just want to hug him and tell him to stand up to her! :(
“I see em’ together all the time – laughing, talking…all the stuff she never does with me”
Terri’s office looks like it’s the same as Emma’s…
“I am not built to work 5 days a week”
“I’ve been thinkin’ maybe that if you and I started seein’ each other on the side it might kinda cancel their thing out”
“She doesn’t like to be touched…by me.”
“Look at the two of us. You pregnant and me with psoriasus and one testicle that won’t descend.”
“Though I’ve been grouped with the boys, my allegiance still remains with you ladies. They declined my offer to do their hair in cornrows and all my artistic decisions have been derioted as ‘too costly’ because they involve several varieties of exotic bird feathers.”
Rachel’s goal is a Grammy, not a Tony. #oops
smack-talking Finn is a giant douche. Ugh.
“You being here is not good for our marriage.” “Spending time together is not good for our marriage?” She has a point…
“A lot of ants on the sidewalk today.” *long uncomfortable silence* “Pretty late in the season for that.”
oh, Ken proposing. I hated you from the first moment I laid eyes on you.
“Look, Emma, I know our relationship hasn’t been perfect. You won’t ride in my car. I can’t touch you above the wrist. Remember you cried for an hour that one time my elbow accidentally brushed by your breast? But I think about you all day long. I kiss that picture of us at the State Fair every night before I go to sleep. Emma Pillsbury, this is not an engagement ring – no, I mean it is, but it’s more than that. It’s a promise. Look, Emma, I know you have this thing about being clean. Now I can’t promise to pick up my underwear or squeegee the shower door, but I can promise to keep your life clean of sadness and loneliness and any other dark clouds that might float into it. It’s cubic zirconia. I know how effected you were by Blood Diamond.”
“Thankyousomuch,itreallyisapleasure.Whiletheboyschoseaselectionofsongsthatcastaneyeinwardontheirresponsiblelifechoicesandsexualhungeroftoday’smodernteens,wehavechosenaselectionofsongsthatspeakstothenationasawholeduringthesetroublingtimesfilledwitheconomicuncertaintyandunbridledsocialwoebecauseifthere’stwothingsAmericaneedsrightnow,thatissunshineandoptimism.” *awkward pause and Rachel finally breathes* “Also angels.” OMG. Maybe my favorite Rachel Berry moment ever.
Also, this was one of my fave musical moments (songs, singers, choreography) of all of Season One. Heather Morris is gangsta on this, dancing like she’s on crack. OMG. I love it. Every one of these girls is such a great dancer.
“Can you um…can you think of any other options I might have?” “Is that a reason to marry someone?” “That’s not what I’m asking.” See, Glee still does this – these weird conversations that are clearly about something else, but never really get finished and things are left in limbo but as if the akward moment didn’t happen, so I think I’m losing my mind when I look for the continuity….ugh. Headache. What just happened?
“You have no chance with my husband. Do I make myself clear? You might think there’s some kind of competition going on with you and I, but that’s like saying that a nail is competing with a hammer.”
“Do yourself a favor, honey. Marry Ken Tanaka. Oh sure, he’s dumb like sand, and his fondue pot of nationalities is gonna open your kids up to a host of genetic diseases…but he’s kind, and he’s generous. And he’s available.” I don’t like Terri but….truth.com right there.
“I need to talk to you, about the baby” “Is everything ok? You’re not having it right now, are you?” What?! No! Aren’t you supposed to be a nurse?”
“You want money from me?” “It’s gonna be your baby.” “Which means I’m gonna be paying the bills for 18 years – I think you can handle 9 months” Oh Terri.
Aw. My heart still breaks for Emma during this scene where she basically accepts Ken’s proposal and asks for a secret marriage. And says she doesn’t wanna spend the rest of her life alone. Gah – so sad! :(
“I don’t even remember performing.”
“I’m sorry for what I said the other day. For calling you contemptable and deplorable” “Ah, that’s ok. I didn’t even know what those words meant.” #BlessFinnsHeart
“My goals are too selfish.” Rachel. Why did you forget that lesson?
Howard Bamboo got arrested on suspicion of running a meth lab. Ha!
“You are oblivious to consequences” A running theme of this show.
oh Glee. Again with the weird situations…neither Will nor Emma even preTENded to be happy about her marrying Ken when she told him. How does neither of them address it? What just happened?
I remember the first time I saw this episode and I loved that Rachel Berry had changed to being a team player and making her goal about winning sectionals with the team. That didn’t last long. SOLOS: Finn (1), Artie (1), Rachel (1) MERCEDES TAKES THE GLORY NOTE: 2nd time
My Top 10 Kdramas
I was reading @overthinkingkdrama‘s list on her top 10 kdramas thus far and that got me thinking about mine. It’s been a while since I’ve evaluated my favourites and their ranking so thought it’d be interesting to check in. *frantically checks mydramalist completed list*
The problem is that after most dramas, I forget the characters and stories. There are many dramas that I have rated 10/10 right after having watched them many years ago but now I cannot remember what exactly I liked about them. There are some I remember because they’ve been rewatched multiple times. So do I include the ones that I’ve rewatched/are more recent that I remember or the ones from a couple of years ago which I remember enjoying but I’m not really sure why?
Let's start with notable mentions. These are rated 10/10 by me but I couldn’t fit all of them on the list so .....
Notable mention 1: Dear My Friends
Tumblr media
Somewhere after the saeguk phase and before the crime thrillers phase, I was in a slice-of-life phase of kdrama watching. I picked this up during then. There aren't many stories that are focused on the lives of older people. They aren't that well represented in dramaland apart from the sweet/mean grandparents. This was such a heart-warming drama that made me laugh and cry. It was slow paced and probably boring for some but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the friendships and the relationships between the characters. Their stories were so touching and heartbreaking at times. This drama was very realistic, calming and meaningful. I definitely want to give this a rewatch some time in the future.
Notable mention 2: Tree With Deep Roots
Tumblr media
A couple of years ago I went through the saeguk phase. I think a particular mindset is needed to watch a saeguk (or 10). You know it's going to be heavy, with multiple characters and intrinsic details. There won't be many fast forwarding opportunities without missing key plot points. This probably explains why I haven't picked up a saeguk in recent years - I cannot commit to it. This show is far from the romance genre, it is a saeguk about Hangul. I remember it being an incredible story with brilliant characters and mix of fiction and history. And with 24 episodes, never once did it get boring. What a performance by Han Seok Kyu! Jang Hyuk and Shin Se Kyung did a wonderful job too, plus there a short performance by Song Joong Ki. Time for a rewatch?
Notable mention 3: The Princess’ Man
Tumblr media
What I vividly remember is me crying whilst watching this drama. I shed too many tears. Too many. The story can be compared to Romeo and Juliet - two people who fall in love in spite of their family's bitter rivalry. I remember it being well written with a balance of romance, drama, action, suspense, friendship, betrayal, war, politics and revenge (the usual mix really). Probably the best work I have seen of Park Si Hoo and Moon Chae Won. They did brilliantly individually and also together. Great chemistry. I wish I remembered more. Writing this list will tempt me to rewatch all of these. Cannot recall specific songs from the OST but I think I have a few in my Spotify Korean OST list.
Notable mention 4: You Who Came From The Stars
Tumblr media
I think I am the most upset about this not being in the top 10. The reason for it not being in the top 10 is because I did rewatch it a year or two ago and it wasn’t as enjoyable as the first time.
Shall we start right at the beginning, with the intro. I loved that intro and despite being a serial fast forwarder, I made sure to watch it at the beginning of every episode. This was the first show where I thought the female lead was relatable. Jun Ji Hyun was vulnerable, sweet, goofy, not the smartest in the room and she made Song Yi so real to me. I loved her more than Kim Soo Hyun in this show. I loved the internal/external monologues she would have with herself. As a couple, they had incredible chemistry and remain to be one of my favourite on-screen couples. The story was complete and flowed well. I liked the second male lead and the side characters too. 'My Destiny' by Lyn is still one of my most memorable and most listened to OST. I'm not sure why I didn't enjoy it the second time. Writing this is tempting me to rewatch this gem.
Notable mention 5: Her Private Life
Tumblr media
I have to agree with Deok Mi: Kim Jae Wook is so annoyingly beautiful.
The female character was particularly relatable to me. I am a fan girl (not to the extent of the character) and a life outside where people don't really know the extent of my fangirlness. This has to be my favourite (truly) rom-com. There are so many things that I loved here, but what made the drama that enjoying were definitely our main leads Sung Deok Mi and Ryan Gold. Park Min Young and Kim Jae Wook's chemistry was so natural. I loved how mature their relationship was - they sorted out all misunderstandings quickly and acted like adults. There was no pointless drama. The leads tried to understand each other and also give the other space. Ryan Gold seems like the ultimate male lead, he has raised those standards even higher. Side note to appreciate Deok Mi's wardrobe. Those pant suits were gorgeous - I wish I could pull them off. I guess there was a lack of real obstacles and conflict. But I liked that for a change.
10. Queen In Hyun’s Man
Tumblr media
The premise was interesting and story was executed really well. A truly romantic drama. The mix of old and modern world was done so well. Yoo In Na and Ji Hyun Woo are absolutely adorable together. Love this show.
9. Bridal Mask
Tumblr media
GAKSITAL! I was raving about this drama to everyone who would listen to me. I think this drama is a masterpiece. The amazing storyline with complex characters, excellent actors, epic cliffhangers, and breathtaking music (that loud/epic tune still rings in my head). The storyline was engaging and each episode always left me wanting more. The story is unique and I love how it explores a different part of history. The friendship and conflict between the two male leads Kangto and Shunji is the heart of this show.
8. Rooftop Prince
Tumblr media
Every time I think about this show, I'm reminded of the comedic and quirky scenes of the characters adjusting to the modern world (post time travel obviously). I like how the stories in the old and modern world are integrated. There is a shift from romantic, light hearted comedy to sad and melodramatic later in the show. The sad scenes were truly heartbreaking. Enjoyable watch, great acting, wonderful OSTs that I still listen to!
7. My Wife is Having an Affair This Week
Tumblr media
Another slice of life drama. I loved how the show explored marriage, relationships, cheating and divorce. It was only 12 episodes so didn't drag at all. The characters are so complex and human and the story is so beautifully written. Song Ji Hyo and Lee Seon Gyun are amazing as the leads, portraying every emotion of a struggling couple from start to finish. You need to go in with an open mind to watch this show.
6. 49 Days
Tumblr media
Everyone has that one show, which isn't brilliant but somehow touched your heart and you love it despite its flaws. This is mine. 49 Days has a unique story and I knew I was going to be crying as I come to love these characters. I did cry, lots. I cried each time I rewatched it. I cried because it was sad and it made me so frustrated that life was so unfair to these characters and they're not going to get the happy ending that they deserve... The writer stayed true to their vision. It wasn't all rainbows and balloons at the end with loopholes to give each character their happy ending. I think I love this show because it really pains me to watch these characters and their lives. I really came to love Jung Il Woo and Lee Yo Won. LOVE the OST.
5. Signal
Tumblr media
What a story! And the execution of that story. Amazing from start to finish. I can still hear the sound of the walkie-talkies in my head. One of the best crime thrillers I have seen. Cases were well paced. The mystery would leave me at the edge of my seat every time. A couple of the cases were REAL cases, which was terrifying but brilliant. The music was mellow and fit the scenes so well. This show and the ones below were truly an experience. Loved the actors and the acting.
4. Father is Strange
Tumblr media
Ah another phase of my - the family drama/soaps phase. After seeing a couple, I didn't go into this show with high expectations. It has the typical family drama elements: illegitimate son/birth secrets, sick family member, horrible in-laws, evil side character/bully. What made it stand out from the other shows was how the characters dealt with these issues. It wasn't the same as previous shows, the characters were more mature and real and dealt with these issues in a more progressive and refreshing way. The show also touched on issues including parenting, bullying, marriage, career vs pregnancy and societal pressure. I was so invested in everyone's stories and arcs. Lee Yoo Ri though. My favourite character, she made the show for me.
3. Reply 1988
Tumblr media
This is such a nostalgic, true-to-life trip from start to finish.  Reply 1988 exceeded my expectations, after Reply 1997 it was hard not to. What made it stand out from the previous Reply series was the focus on family and friendship instead of the romance. This meant we got to know EACH and every character and feel what they were feeling. The story isn’t fast paced with big ups and downs. It depicts the true day-to-day life, which made it feel even more real. I didn’t expect to cry as much as I did in this drama. And it wasn’t because someone was dying. They were the small acts, unsaid things that truly touched my heart. Junghwan’s and Jung bong’s terrace scene watching stars, Jung bong in the hospital, Bora leaving to go to the hostel, Dong ryong wanted to spend time with his mum, Sun woo’s wedding invitation to Taek’s dad, Bora and Bora’s Dads letters to each other, etc etc. I truly felt like a part of the Ssangmungdong community. Even though I didn’t enjoy the ending, this would be one of my favourite dramas ever. The length of the episodes and the ending has stopped me from rewatching it but every once in a while, I think about how beautiful this drama was.
Also, as an epilogue to the show, everybody should watch Youth Over Flowers: Africa.
Tumblr media
2. Healer
Tumblr media
Ji Chang Wook. That's it. Do we need to say anything else. Solid romance, great story, brilliant action scenes, gripping, wonderful OST, good acting and JI CHANG WOOK. Love this show. Ji Chang Wook. Watch it for him.
1. Age of Youth
Tumblr media
This is such a precious show. I have rewatched it and am planning to watch it again for the nth time. This show really defines slice-of-life. I am sure everyone watching this drama could relate to one of the girls or even just a situation faced by the girls. I was able to relate to different situations and aspects of many of the girls personally and also have seen other friends/family facing similar situations. I was really glad that the plot focused on the girls the most and not the boys. It didn't take a detour. It was consistent. This show touched my heart in the way no other show probably will (for now atleast). The relationships were realistic. The casting was perfect - Age of Youth 2 was great but changing the actor changed the dynamic for me. The music was beautiful - I still loop 'Butterfly' by Sogyumo Acacia Band. I have no complaints or flaws for this show apart from it being too short.
Just realised I've left Forest of Secrets/Stranger out of this list. EURGH let's add that in somewhere.
Tumblr media
If Be Melodramatic carries on the way it doing, it's going to be in my top 10.
A Review of: Avengers: Endgame
I feel like this is gonna be controversial to everyone I follow.
Avengers: Endgame
Directed By: Joe Russo and Anthony Russo
Written By: Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Karen Gillan, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Bradley Cooper, Josh Brolin, and Danai Gurira.
Score: 7.75/10
Watch If You Like: Marvel Movies. There’s really nothing more I can say here, you know already if you like Marvel Movies. If you don’t, don’t watch this. If you do, you’re already planning on watching this. If you have never seen a Marvel Movie, for the love of god do not start here.
Content Warnings: PG-13 Violence, Abuse, an incredibly lackluster attempt at LGBT representation.
Spoilers under the cut. I repeat, ENDGAME SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT.
Well, I liked it better than Infinity War.
What can I really say? Everyone puts in good performances, there’s some fantastic shots and cinematography, the score is adequate as usual apart from some well-chosen pre-existing music, the fight scenes are fun and inventive…
Just in general, this is a pretty well-written movie. The emotional pacing is great, knowing when to be sad, when to be funny, when to be triumphant… The plot, for the most part, makes sense, and the character directions make sense, for the most part. I’ve seen a lot of people accuse the writers of relying on twists and that’s why the whole spoiler culture is around it, to prevent people from knowing better, but I disagree. It’s definitely got some rewatchability to it.
But on the other hand, you definitely get the feeling that this is a mass-marketed story written by straight white men. There’s a definite aura off it, something I never really noticed in previous movies.
I laughed, I cried, I got annoyed at some stuff. Let’s get to the categories.
The Good:
The plot is pretty good, overall. The time-travel heist that we center around after the prologue is a unique idea for an Avengers movie, and it escalates naturally into the massive battle in the end. It breaks our cast down into small groupings, most of them pretty natural pairings. It goes wrong at points, sometimes they recover well, other times they have to go further off-plan to recover.
The prologue. It doesn’t really waste any time, gets straight to the point, and does some things I really didn’t think it would do (Thanos being smart enough to destroy the Infinity Stones, and Thanos dying)
Thanos’ motivations. I didn’t like his motivations in the previous film, but this one lays out pretty clearly what I suspected: it’s not actually about saving the universe for Thanos. It’s about his ego. He wants to be the saviour, he wants everyone to know it, and he wants to live to see this “grateful universe” he creates. He travels to the Avengers’ timeline because he wants to change his future, he wants to win and not die in the aftermath. He’s not a well-intentioned extremist, he’s a glory hound.
Consequences. They reverse The Snap, but it still has consequences. Everyone who died has lost five years, while the world has moved on without them. We get Gamora back, but she’s not the same Gamora who died.
The final battle. It lasts a goddamn hour and it flies by in a flash. It’s fantastically paced, never dragging, and highlights the next generation of Avengers while giving the old guard time to shine. It’s a big, epic comicbook battle brought to life.
Hawkeye’s character arc. It makes sense for him to go after the worst of humanity in his grief, and it brings his character around quite poetically, from the person who gave a chance to a killer, to a killer given a chance.
The focus on Nebula. Karen Gillan plays a blinder in this one, and she gets a lot of time to shine, both as her past and present versions.
The scenes with the Ancient One. They go into the heist all gung-ho, and she just smacks Banner down, explaining that he’d be dooming one universe to save another. You see a lot of stories that don’t care about the alternate universes our heroes visit, so it’s nice to see someone point out that those universes continue to exist afterwards and are just as worthy of saving as any other one.
Captain America is goddamn worthy and that was beautiful.
Scarlet Witch vs Thanos.
Rescue, after all these years.
Yes, the female Avengers scene was cheesy and I do not care.
Honestly? Pretty good use of Captain Marvel. Not in the movie much, but when she’s there, she makes the perfect impact. After all, the rest of the Galaxy doesn’t have an Avengers. Maybe she should change that?
First off, that shot of Cap alone against Thanos’ army? Fuck yeah. Then the reinforcements arrive with Sam’s “On your left”? Fuck Yeah.
Black Widow’s death. I was hesitant on this one, but while I hate that she died, it’s a good conclusion to her arc. She’s spent decades trying to wipe the red from her ledger, make up for the innocents that she’s killed, and it’s what motivates her to end her own life in the end.
Iron Man’s death. While I have a problem with him killing Thanos, him winning the final battle did feel fitting. He was the first. He made the sacrifice play, once again. His arc has always been about him being unable to do anything less but to devote his life to helping others, to detriment of his health and his personal life. He declared he’d stop being Iron Man, but went right back at the first opportunity. His line, “I am Iron Man”, as well as echoing Thanos’ repetition of “I am Inevitable”, is a final admission to himself. He could never do anything less than give the world everything, as much as he wanted.
Cap’s ending. The soldier who only ever knew war finally gets his peace. He finally gets the life he always wanted. This is the one that broke me, that made me cry, because I was happy for him, but so sad that we were losing him.
Also, shout out to actress who played Morgan Stark, she was fantastic and I can’t find her name on IMDb.
The Bad:
Thanos’ deaths. Look, Gamora and Nebula deserved to confront him, to call him out on all his bullshit, and now they’ll never get to. It’s unsatisfying. Like, if you had to have Tony kill him in the end, let Nebula end him at the farm, at the very least.
Thanos never gets called out on his bullshit.
Banner. I’m gonna be honest, the Professor Hulk thing is such a big change, it feels like a cop out to have occurred during the time skip. And on top of that, it’s clearly Banner’s mind in Hulk’s body. That’s not an equal relationship, because Hulk had a personality. Hulk was a person. None of Hulk is left in that fusion, you see it when the Ancient One sends him astral projecting. Hulk is dead, and Banner kinda killed him.
Once again, they kinda shat on Thor’s character arc. I appreciate his trauma, and him learning to deal with it, but after finally having Thor become the person he was meant to be in Ragnarok… he abandons it. Twice. And while I appreciate him handing power off to Valkyrie, the cynical side of me says this is an attempt to take Valkyrie out of further movies. Also the fat jokes are not appreciated.
Okay, what are the rules to the Soul Stone again? Because last time it was “sacrifice something you love”, and this time it’s “a soul for a soul”. If it’s the first, then self-sacrifice totally doesn’t count and our heroes should’ve been down a stone, if it’s the second then the scene in Infinity War contradicts it and should’ve been massively changed. Because the scenes around it were problems in and of themselves.
Remember that beautiful scene with Cap at the end? The one I cried at? Yeah, that breaks the rules of time travel that the film sets out. You cannot travel to your own universe’s past, only to alternate universes. And yet Steve manages to travel into the past of the main universe. You can’t say he simply traveled back to another universe and then back home for the visit because he’d have to use the quantum tunnel device that everyone was standing around. The other two devices were destroyed. Like, you could have changed that so easily, have him show up back on the pad as his old self and send him on his way again, but you went for extra poignancy and made yourself a genuine plothole.
Also, the advertised LGBT rep. Honestly, it might have gone over smoother if the directors hadn’t made a big deal out of it. Just a guy, not being played by one of the directors, talking about his life after the snap. And doing this to a fanbase that’s wanted LGBT rep for nearly a decade now isn’t fucking great, Marvel.
Overall… look, you already know if you’re seeing this or not. Personally, I liked it, it gave me some things I was waiting years for, but… I can’t help but feel a little disappointed, y’know? It’s a fitting ending, but... it could’ve been better.
Supernatural Season 13 Episode 3 ‘Patience’ - Review
I love doing reviews but I never feel like I write good enough to do some, but this episode just got me so hard I have to talk about it. Prepare yourself for a very (very, VERY) long post. And obviously, this is just my very own personal opinion which is completely biased due to my personal preferences.
I loved this episode so much it hurts. I already watched it 5 times. God was it good. Let’s try to sort this out.
Tumblr media
1) The return of Missouri Moseley. Now I don’t have to recall how badass she is. And she proves it once more in this episode. Obviously I was seriously pissed they bring her back just to kill her basically, but hey, it’s Supernatural, could we really expect something better from them? #SarcasmOverload. The big bad point in this episode imo. Still, the fact that she didn’t scream, she didn’t want to give that pleasure to the wraith, it takes an incredible strength to do it. So Missouri Moseley, you are a bamf woc who deserves all the love and respect in the world.
Tumblr media
2) The wraith. First, I was very glad to see another wraith, since the last one we saw was in season 5, meaning 8 years ago. It feels good to see the show dusting off some old monsters that we haven’t seen in years, like the show hasn’t forgotten its early beginnings. And to bring it back along with the psychics, I think it’s a very clever writing move. Obviously the psychics are special targets for a wraith since they have a special brain which gives them abilities. So it must taste better for a wraith. But what intrigued me & made me feel really weird in this episode was that I had a lot of rape vibes. The wraith really seemed to have physical pleasure from eating the psychics. It just couldn’t help myself but see a lot of parallels between that & rape. The fact that he wanted Missouri to scream because “it would be better”, the weird parallel I can’t not see between a penis and the weird member coming out of his hand, the fact that all his victims were women, the fact that he told Patience he would milk her brain (parallel with her body) because she will taste (feel) so good, the non-consensual sniffing, the fact that he kept Patience from screaming in the highschool, the insult ‘bitch’, I mean I really got this vibe.
Tumblr media
3) Patience. So I was very excited to meet her since she will be in the Wayward Sisters spin-off, but I didn’t know what to expect. I wanted to be objective: even though I love Wayward Sisters, will I truly like Patience? Well let me tell you I have a new crush. Patience is so great. She is smart, kind, she knows how to fight (seriously how badass she was when she ripped the wraith’s.... member off?), and we just saw a tiny glimpse of who she is. And on top of all that: she’s so gorgeous it frustrates me. OMFG I love her so much.
Tumblr media
4) Jack. Now I know he won a lot of hearts in the premiere already but he didn’t win mine until then. Sure, he’s sweet, but I still didn’t know what to think of him besides that. I was intrigued for sure. But in this episode I truly felt him and ached for him. He seems to be an incredible emotional sponge and I relate so much to that. And after only a few days of existence, he already hates himself and blames himself for a lot of things that are not his fault. I realised in this episode I am very much like him at the moment. And I firmly believe my new found love for this character is entirely due to Alexander Calvert’s incredible performance. So congratulations, you won another heart.
Tumblr media
5) Sam. And all the relationships we saw this episode. So first, his relationship with Jack. Obviously he understands what Jack’s going through better than Dean throughout his own past (demon blood). I knew we were going to see that. But I was afraid of was Sam falling back into the “I’m a freak” speech, or at least trying to get his own redemption through Jack. But that’s not what I saw. It seemed to me Sam truly believed he was good despite his past, that he doesn’t see himself as a freak anymore, and not only that, but he believes he is good. Now I know it’s not new (we saw glimpse of that in season 12 as well), but I truly felt it in this episode.
Also, Sam and Dean. So yeah, they don’t agree, but they talk, and I’m so glad that we have that, this reassurance that neither of them will do anything in the other’s back. But also, I am so glad to see Sam getting angry towards Dean. I always thought that his anger was the most interesting side of his character. Sam is usually the one that keeps his emotions in check. He doesn’t push them down, but he’s able to control them. It’s an ability I so wished I had. But it seems to me anger is the only emotion that he can’t really control, and imo that’s why he gets angry in very rare occasions: because he knows he doesn’t fully control it. Also, may I say that him being angry with Dean, him taking the lead with Jack, it makes me wonder if he’s going to be more proactive this season, and if that is a continuation of him becoming a leader in 12x22.
And finally, Sam and Castiel. Now Castiel didn’t interact with him obviously, but 2 things. First, maybe I’m wrong, but Sam said for the first time that Castiel was his family. Not that he didn’t think it before, obviously he did, but every time Castiel was designed as a full member of the brothers’ family, it was said by Dean. I truly liked that for once, Sam said it. And that makes me think that Dean is quite insensitive towards Sam’s grief. Sam knows Castiel means something very special to Dean compared to him, but still, Dean acts as if Castiel was not special to Sam too. Sam considers Castiel as not only his friend, but his brother. I would love to see more Sam-Castiel interactions, even though I know Misha and Jared can’t stay serious for more than 3 seconds so it’s not likely to happen. Anyway, I really love what we saw of Sam in this episode and where his character is going.
Tumblr media
6) Just before my favorite part, I just wanted to quickly talk about Castiel. So he’s definitely in the empty, I cannot wait to see more of him in the next episode. I was just a little disappointed in how it was filmed. So when Jack calls Castiel, we discover the latter laying on his front in a full black place. And when he hears Jack calling him, he opens his eyes. Well I believe the episode would have had an even better cliffhanger if it stopped right after Castiel opened his eyes, just like in the season 9 finale when Dean opens his eyes as a demon. Instead, we had a weird waking up with Castiel taking his time. Realistically though: Castiel is still a warrior. He has reflexes. He wakes up, after being dead (I believe he knows he got killed), in a black black place where there’s nothing, first thing you do, you jump on your feet and look for an imminent threat. You don’t take your time. But whatever.
Tumblr media
7) Finally, Dean. As a strong Destiel shipper, I will nonetheless skip over the parallel between his grieving and Sam’s one with Missouri reading his mind, or the parallel between his behaviour and John’s one after Mary’s death. I will directly jump on the last scene that turned me into a sobbing mess at 3am. I would like to comment on the fact that I usually don’t cry in front of a film or a TV show etc. For poignant scenes, I might have a few tears in my eyes, and it’s already rare. But actually cry? It happened to me maybe 10 times in my life. For example, I didn’t cry for Castiel’s death. But when Dean yelled at Sam how hurt he was? I couldn’t stop crying. And also, usually, I cry when I watch the scene for the first time, but when I rewatch it, I don’t anymore. Here? I cried during the 3 first times I watched it.
I am so happy that Dean shares more of his pain with Sam. He’s not a total closed shell and it’s great as for his character’s development. He’s not as closed as for John’s death for example, he lets people see he’s hurt. He doesn’t waste time about it, he doesn’t want to talk for hours about it because it’s Dean, but at the same time, I don’t feel like he’s trying to hide his pain. I’m glad for that. Now as for his stance towards Jack, as a lot of people, I don’t agree with Dean. But at the same time, I didn’t really understand Dean’s opinion in the first two episodes. So yes, Jack is Lucifer’s son and has a great potential of evil, but I didn’t understand why he was so oblivious on the fact that nothing is set in stone and Jack can be good. Why is he so sure Jack will be evil? Why can’t he give him a chance? He gave a chance for others before. And even though we could say that his grief makes that he doesn’t see straight rn, I couldn’t really put my finger on why it was correlated.
And then this scene happened, and I finally completely understood it. I think deep down, completely rationally, Dean doesn’t believe Jack is evil. He has a potential of evil, a great one might I add, but I think deep down, Dean also believes Sam when he says Jack can be good. So his very negative pov towards Jack comes from the fact that Jack reminds him of his losses, of what he tries to get over with. We know Dean never dealt with losses well. John, Kevin, Charlie, Jo, Ellen, Mary, Castiel, the list could go on and on. Everytime, because it’s Dean, he blames himself. He couldn’t protect them. And now, with both Mary (he couldn’t save her, save his mother, for the second time) and Castiel dead at the same time, he really has a hard time to proceed it. He tries the best he can to deal with the grieving process as fast as he can. He tries to get over it. And yet, there’s this being, this kid he sees everywhere because he lives with him, that reminds him every second of who he lost a few days ago. (Might I add Jack looks like a young version of Castiel? Woops). So Dean has someone to blame everything for, and because he can get behind the argument of “Jack is going to be evil because Lucifer’s son”, he’s going to use it and hide behind this idea. He wants to kill Jack not only for the potential threat, but also & mainly because he wants to stop being reminded all day long of his losses. He wants to blame someone else than himself.
And then, this incredible line : “He manipulated him. He made him promises, said “Paradise on Earth”. And Cass bought it. And you know where that got him? It got him dead! Now you might be able to forget about that, but I can’t!”. This wonderful line. Especially the last sentence. It wasn’t about being angry with Sam anymore. It wasn’t about Jack anymore. This was a cry of pain. It was Dean yelling at Sam his pain that he can’t get over with. Despite all he tries, he just. Can’t. Forget. Cass. I will skip over the fact that he basically declared to Sam that Castiel was even more special to him than to Sam, and I’m sorry, but what can be more special than being brothers? You get it. But still. This cry of pain that tears Dean apart, it destroys me. It also shows that Dean tries to not think just about Cass, and yet. Dean blames himself for Cass’s death imo. Because again, he couldn’t save him. But why is Castiel special? He couldn’t save Mary either. But Castiel is his savior. Again, the show goes back to its beginning. Castiel is Dean’s savior, the one that made Dean believe he deserved to be saved. He deserved something. And Dean spent years after years watching Castiel giving up on everything just for Dean, doing absolutely anything for him, die, sacrifice himself, kill, and Dean tried to return the favour. He gave Castiel a place not only in his life, but in his family. He went personal to Cass (mixtape), he listened to this oh so lonely creature, believed in him as an individual, not as one angel between a million. He made Castiel an individual, he made Castiel unique, and yet I’m sure Dean still thinks it was not enough because he couldn’t save him or protect him. He couldn’t protect him from being possessed by Lucifer. He couldn’t save him from being slowly killed by Michael’s spear. He couldn’t save him from being killed by Lucifer, and he couldn’t bring him back. Dean couldn’t save his savior. And despite all his efforts, he can’t get over that.
And now my questions. More exactly, my question. Why is Jack so dependant of what Dean thinks of him? He gives Dean’s opinion a very special importance, and I just can’t get why. Tbh, I can have an idea why, but it’s a Destiel one, and I try as much as I can to be objective and not let my Destiel filled brain see everything as a proof of Destiel. I was very pro-Destiel in the last paragraph because I believe it is canon, but the answer to my question is more of a theory than canon. That’s why I ask it.
It almost seems to me Jack gives more importance to Dean’s opinion than Sam’s, and Sam’s always with him. So why? The very obvious Destiel answer would be: he has a profound bond to Castiel and so he gives a special importance to Dean just like Castiel does, and so just as Castiel very much looks up to Dean, Jack looks up to him as well. He chose Castiel to be his father because Kelly “told” him Castiel would protect him. And so, he chose Dean to be his model, and to care about him because Castiel must somehow have told him to. But if we skip this theory, why would Jack do it? He didn’t give much importance when the angels tried to kill him. And I can’t believe he chose to look up to Dean randomly. Because if it was a random choice, then by now he would have changed his mind and choose Sam because Sam is way more comprehensive and nice towards him. But no. He keeps giving Dean a special importance.
So guys, why?
so happy for you that you got to see cmbyn! do you have anything else to share about it?? anything or everything haha :)
thank you!!! i’m from spain and the release date has been pushed until february (which i’m sure is a crime and violates human rights in so many levels) so i don’t know what i would’ve done if i had to wait that long!!
some thoughts under the cut! beware of little spoilers!
what can i say about the movie that hasn’t been yet said? you all know about timmy’s perfect performance (he probably created a new kind of performance, the perfect-mance), and armie’s accurate approach to a character whose thoughts aren’t as explicit as elio’s in the novel (so it wasn’t an easy task, but he succeeded), and luca’s wonderful touch to all of it. the sole idea of this movie being in the making for so long (as it’s been said in interviews), and therefore the chance of somebody else directing it, terrifies me. i can’t believe we (the world) were lucky enough to get the best adaptation possible, considering luca wasn’t the first choice; he wasn’t even a choice at the very beginning, so yeah. i can assure you that, even though i obviously haven’t seen any other adaptations of this novel and hopefully i never will because if somebody ever decides to remake this i’m going to be so mad i’ll walk out of my grave if needed. as an audiovisual communication student, a spectator and a fan of the novel, the film is a 10. it’s impossible to be disappointed. IMO, if you are disappointed it will be because you wanted to be disappointed.
half an hour before the screening i was literally shaking. (i tend to overreact a lot but trust me, this time i’m serious) i was so nervous, which is crazy considering i wasn’t headed to do anything. all i was going to do was see a movie, ffs. when the movie ended, there was applauding. i looked around as i cried, and people were acting normal (the audacity?). i had cried twice during the movie (a couple scenes towards the end of it), but after it ended, i needed to cry more. and i was surrounded by people who didn’t seem affected at all. it just amazes me how the “same” experience can be an absolute different experience to each person. nobody in the room could possibly imagine the things i was feeling inside. still today, 12 days later, i haven’t cried as much as i would’ve liked.
if you love the book, you will love the movie. some scenes are different, some scenes are new. luca takes his time to introduce the characters (and the scenery, which, in luca’s filmography, becomes a character itself) - and when i say he takes his time i mean he really takes his time. the first half of the movie consists on following elio around. everyone else is there, oliver included, but. elio is the absolute core.
we have elio-from-the-novel who we know everything about. and reading/writing a book is a complete different process than watching/making a film. you can’t judge or analyze them the same way: the same elements are built differently-they have to be built differently. and yet, somehow, elio-from-the-novel is elio-from-the-film, which is the reason why i cried for the longest i’ve cried ever. and just to be clear: i cry a lot. movies make me emotional. but i wasn’t crying because call me by your name has these touching scenes that are supposed to make you emotional, and i wasn’t crying because the ending was sad, or whatever. the thing is, i couldn’t stop thinking: my elio. my elio. my elio. my elio. my elio was there, that was him, that’s his face and his manners and his feelings and his skin. my favorite type of books are the ones with stories told in first person, where the narrator is the protagonist, so it was inevitable that elio’s way of opening up to the reader, so raw, so pure, would stick with me forever.
as good as armie’s work is, and it is, and the chemistry is brutal (you are going to love the lovemaking scene!! so!! much!!!!), this is timothée’s movie. (btw we need more movies about young people. yesterday i read in variety that timmy could be the youngest actor to get an oscar nomination since 1939. what kind of nonsense is that?) if timmy only knew how much it means to me what he did, and how much i worship him (do i like you, timmy? i worship you) because he LITERALLY brought elio to life, well, i’d probably scare the shit outta him. it’s fine. i’m just glad i got to exist at the same time as him. no big deal.
and idk, here some other things:
i know it’s too late for me to advise you to not seek spoilers. you’ve probably already seen photos of the first kiss. but, luckily for you: this movie is like nothing you’ve ever seen before and it’s way better than what you can imagine without having seen it. the famous last shot? better than what you could ever imagine. the last part of the movie, which is different from the novel? better than what you’re thinking. eat as many spoilers as you want! it’ll still be better than you thought.
i don’t want to overhype it but i s2g it’s just so good
try watching something else by luca before!! it’s really worth it!! try a bigger splash, for instance
if you haven’t read the book, YOU HAVE TO. it’s not that the movie needs the book in order to be complete. if you watch the movie without having read the book, you’ll love it. if you watch it after having read the book (and loved it because let’s be real how can you read cmbyn and not love it? impossible), you’ll have the whole experience, a deluxe package that contains happiness, sweet pain, clear skin and faith in humanity
the movie is not sad. the novel is about the passing of time!! and about living in the moment but at the same time feeling the inevitable weight of the future!! and about how love always finds a way to be an essential part of everybody’s personal growth!! and elio is forming his identity!! and the movie is just the same!!
elio is so affectionate with his parents and mafalda and it’s the cutest thing ever
marzia is PRECIOUS
mr. perlman’s speech at the end is the same as in the novel so prepare your tears
IMO Judaism is more present in the movie than in the novel !!!!
there is a specific moment in which... we are left alone with oliver... i won’t say anything else but... beware of genius cinema
the camerawork will leave you breathless
the scene with the soldiers memorial is my favorite. it’s a sequence shot with them walking around the memorial and talking and meeting on the other side....... “you know what things...” goodbye
idk what else to say i don’t want to give away any more details??? if you want me to say something else just ask me and i’ll think of more stuff? and be more specific? i’d love to force myself to remember the movie since i feel it slipping away every second that passes and i ache for a rewatch.
i don’t know how i wrote such a long text i’m so, so sorry. i hope it’s kind of what you wanted haha x
2017.04.05 StarMyuMyu/ High School Star Musical: The Musical! [Review]
In anticipation of this musical, I, of course, rewatched the anime earlier this year and still enjoyed it!! ^_^ so naturally, I was hyped for this musical! Especially because it has some amazing names in there such as Sugie Taishi, Suzuki Shougo, Sakurai Keito and many more!
---
Non-Spoiler Review: I think this is the most well produced musical I’ve seen live from 2.5. And yes that means I think it’s better than TouMyu in terms of dance and singing skills. This is very faithful to the anime BUT they’ve taken one major point out so they could put one entire season of the anime into a 2 hour  30 minute musical. Overall the actors performances were great and while some characterizations were off, I was completely in this world and was with these characters and I enjoyed myself immensely. If you’re a fan of the anime and the actors then you’re going to love this. Rating: 9/10
---
I’ll try and remain un-bias BUT that ain’t going to happen, because in my opinion: I freaking loved it and think it’s the most highly produced musical I’ve ever seen in person! But anyway, onto the long review!
I was super lucky to get smack bang in the middle on the 8th row! It was surprisingly close! Also the girl next to me was Chinese and the girl in front of me is/was rank 581 on Ensemble Stars (a mobile game I am somewhat obsessed with).
Tumblr media
Okay now to head into spoiler territory.
General/Random Comments:
Ohhhh a great thing about being smack in the middle and 8th row(!!!) is that it’s perfect height for where the actors naturally just look out blankly so it looks like they’re looking straight at you even though you can tell they’re just starring out into nothing in concentration but it was a nice feeling xD
By the intermission I was convinced I needed to get Shougo and Keito’s bromides and naturally once the show finished I did! ^_^ BUT one thing you all ought to know about me; I am a person who HATES intermissions. I cannot stand them. Unless they’re like TouMyu (or the last K stage)’s where it’s a break between the stage and the live, (those I can deal with) BUT any other type of intermission, I do NOT want. Because everytime there’s an intermission my energy and hyperness for the stage goes. I get drained instantly and slumpy. And the intermission in StarMyu was no different. The first half of this musical, I was pumped, I was loving every part, I was drinking it all in. POST intermission; I can’t even tell you what happened the first 10 or 20 minutes to be honest, I vaguely remember and knowing the anime I know what happened. However, due to the intermission, at the beginning of part two, I was so taken out of it and I started feeling uncomfortable and sleepy << this is what I call my ‘Post Intermission Slumb’ and it happens ALL the freaking time. So yes I would rather have watched this 2 hour 30 minute play without a break. Hell I managed TouStage which was OVER 3 hours without a break. PLEASE stop doing intermissions stages and musicals, for my concentration’s sake! *cries* xD
About the Performances:
Everyone is a really good singer. I was a little unsure about Sugie and Takahashi before they started but they were good; you can tell Takahashi has definitely improved once again since I last saw him, and while Sugie couldn’t really sing high notes, he matched really well with others; especially his duet with Otori their voices matches very well. Yuzuki sounded a little rough in his first song, but was fine in the rest of the songs. Also Yuzuki does my pet peeve of miming along to other people’s lyrics in songs... I really hate when people do that... it’s why I hated Fujigaya for KisMyFt2 for the longest time. I can’t stand people who mime to other peoples lines in songs... it’s a strange pet peeve I know but... moving on(!)...
The ensembles’ dancing was so flawless and fluid and fun to watch! Also, speaking of dancing, I really enjoyed Sugie’s solo part where he had to dance and he can dance damn well! I enjoyed it a lot!
Of course I shed a tear just after the boys learnt Otori had gone and Hoshitani is like a lost soul and all ‘but what do we do now?! We need Otori! I need Otori!’ and then when Otori turns up and is like ‘it’s not me you need, it’s your team mates’ and they do a duet together and yes the feels were hit.
BUT I’m a little annoyed they didn’t do my favourite Nayuki x Hoshitani scene. They started the scene where Nayuki is like ‘we need you! you’re our leader! Without you, I would never have gotten into this group! Without you, this team wouldn’t be as great’ and I was sat there like ‘come on with the ‘I like you’ Nayuki, come on!’ and Nayuki goes ‘I have something I want to say’ and I thought ‘it’s here!’ but he ends up saying something else and I was like ‘NOOOOO! You’re supposed to tell him you like him!!!’ so I was upset they cut that out BUT I can understand why they cut it out.... but still -__-
Also I wish we got full performances from Team Hiragi and Team Otori. How they did it was they would do the opening properly singing and performing, and then in order to cut to the council members talking, the music would quieten and their voice on the CD/song would continue quietly while they continued dancing and lipsyncing the lyrics. I just want FULL performances!! No one cares what the Student Council think!! Just give us a full performance! Having the constant switch between them properly performing and them pulling the spotlights on the student council was too distracting and we ALL know we’re there for Team Otori and Team Hiragi (both characters and actors) so why do that?!
Seriously that pirate performance!!!! I was looking forward to it ever since my friend, Emma, mentioned and reminded me that Team Hiragi’s theme is pirates! I love almost anything to do with pirates so when they came on, I was like ‘YES!!!!’ And we got to see them on boat which had been made from the stairs and apparatus’, and they got swords and were fighting as well as dancing and singing and it was so god!! They all sounded awesome together too!
Although, I feel like the ending was rushed a little. It felt like very quickly the storm came and very quickly Team Hiragi walked in and was like ‘here’s what you can do!’ and then Team Hiragi performed and straight away after that Team Otori performed and it ENDED as soon as Team Otori finished their song(!). Meaning that there were no competition results or anything. In fact they didn’t really even state it was a competition, just that they all had to perform. So that’s a major part of the plot that they took out to save time. But, as stated, I didn’t like that ending. I would’ve preferred there to be a little more; for example: they perform and Otori shows up and says they did well or like they finish performing and they’re like ‘lets continue and do better next time *star sign* yay!’ and finish. Just a bit more something rather than ‘perform *black out* curtain call’ which was a bit too quick for me.
I noticed and felt during the curtain call that a tear or two fell down the sides of my face, and I was like ‘what?...damn I enjoyed it that much?’ normally I’m completely aware of when I’m crying but they just slipped out this time to my surprise.
The curtain calls were so cute for several reasons! First was at the end of the first curtain call Naoya put his arm around Keito, and Keito put his around Naoya’s and they walked off xD Then during the speeches Sugie pointed out that three of the guys (Akira, Yuzuki and someone else) were still 19 and then he went ‘and then this guy. This 30 year old! Oi!!! 30 year old!’ and Kiyama had his back to Sugie and eventualy turned around and went ‘oh me? Nah I’m still 19 too!’ xD Then, at the end of the second curtain call I saw Keito and Naoya practically walk off holding hands <3 Keito waited til the view could be almost fully blocked, but he very obviously looked down to see where Naoya’s hand was and then latched on xD it was adorable!!!!
Individual Remarks:
Tumblr media
Team Otori Sugie Taishi as Hoshitani Yuta: As mentioned before, he wasn’t the best singer but he was good eough and he matched during duets and in group songs with the other members very well! I’ve seen him sing quite a few times and for some reason I still always sit and wonder ‘can this guy even sing?!’ xD
I think Sugie tripped up the stairs when he was on the phone to Shouta in the cat searching scene, but it was so funny and cute and it totally fit his character so it was okay xD also towards the end of the lunch box ‘fight’, someone (I think Akira) grabbed onto Sugie who then grabbed onto Kiyama (by mistake it seemed or too forceful than he should’ve) and Kiyama tried to get out of it and ran across the stage going ‘my hair!!’ xD
Tumblr media
Yamanaka Shouta as Nayuki Toru: His voice is so high! It was a perfect fit for Nayuki and I think he did a great job as Nayuki too! Unfortauntely not as cute BUT he did the personality perfectly. Also he’s got really nice legs. Not the skinny rat ones like more Japanese actors (I’m looking at you Keito, Takahashi, dare I go on.), he has proper, decent looking legs that look like they’ve got some sort of muscle build xD and he’s short enough that his legs look cute haha ALSO fucking Takahashi is a giant! He looked so ridiculous next to EVERYONE, especially Shouta because of the eight difference xD good job TonChan didn’t do this stage >.< oh god help us in HakuMyu... by the way, I’ve met Ton-Chan, just rubbing that in there xD ANYWAY! I am happy with Yamanaka’ overall performance of Nayuki *thumbs Up*
Arthur Lounsberry as Tsukigami Kaito: Seriously, Arthur though must burn at least 3000 calories a day just from his blinking! I’ve never seen anyone blink so much in my life! I was starting to crack up because of how much he blinked xD Also, maybe it’s because Arthur is a newbie actor (?) or just because he wanted to make the character more serious but I felt his Tsukigami was very unemotional. He had the exact same expression the entire way through. His face just stayed the same, even when he was singing there was no alteration to his facial features which I found a little unnerving and makes me feel like he’s a bit of an amateur actor. BUT I am wiling to give the StarMyu Anime a THIRD viewing just to prove it is just part of the character rather than Arthur himself. I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt. But yeah, the lack of facial expression and/or change in his face, even when singing, was something that really drew my attention.
Suzuki Shougo as Tengenji Kakeru: Do I really need to talk about this mother chucker of a stage god?Seriously, Shougo... seriously! It’s Shougo! I could listen to him sing all day! He completely takes the room and his voice is so nice! Seriously, does he not have any solo singles or albums out?! I want them!! I want them all! And just as I predicted he looked  MUCH better in real life as Tengenji unlike that AWFUL visual poster we got to begin with xD his bromides are nice too! *see bottom of post* Shougo did his job, he did a brilliant job, I thoroughly loved his solo song performance and his kimono costume and fan for it. Also the ‘acting’ scene with Takahashi with is momentarily them pretending to be Romero (Taka) and Juliet (Shougo) was hilarious. Shougo never backs down from comedy and always gives his all <3 OH MY! His cat scene too was COMPLETELY adorable!! <3
Tumblr media
Takahashi Kensuke as Kuga Shu: Holy moly Takahashi! Whenever he was on stage too, I could not look away. He’s just LONG; his legs and arms are so long and skinny. AND it did not help that every movement he did was just so sexy; he was just dripping in sexiness seriously - and I don’t even think he was trying to be sexy all the time(!). BUT I also could not unsee Hachi and Ultraman in this face xD And, as said before, he towered over everyone which was super funny especially when he was stood next to poor Shouta xD
Takahashi played Kouga a bit more openly and more talkative than I would’ve wanted. In the anime Kuga is very reserved and a man of few words and only really speaks when necessary but in this I noticed Takahashi was WHOLE monologues and tons of lines, and I personally feel that’s NOT the Kuga I know BUT Takahashi is a suave and popular guy, I guess you just gotta give him more lines (so he gets more money). But on a positive, Kuga turned out to be such a sweetie and so adorable, for example: when he’s playing the piano and then eats ramen (which he actually did on stage!), but when he’s finished, his stomach rumbles (pretty sure this is a scene in the anime too) but denies to Nayuki that he’s still hungry but Nayuki makes him food anyway <3 ; another part is towards the end when Hoshitani learns that his luck for the day is really bad unless he shakes hands with someone and he pulls a hand out to Tengenji who rejects him, then to Tsukigami who also rejects him, and then Kuga holds his hand out but because Hoshitani has his back to him only the audience and Tengenji sees and everyone is like ‘awwww’ while Hoshitani and Nayuki decide to shake hands instead. But then an announcement comes out so Nayuki moves before Hoshitani can shake his hand so another awwww from the audience xD poor Hoshitani, but mainly poor Kuga xD
Team Hiragi:
Tumblr media
Sakurai Keito as Rui Tatsumi: Keito... Keito is so freaking precious guys! First he super suits the whole short blonde hair and green eyes! Seriously he looks so good!! Secondly, Keito is freaking adorable, and his legs are so tiny! Thirdly, he can dance and sing and is so cute!!! Did a mention who cute, precious and adorable he is? Because seriously, he is! He did a great Rui which when I first saw the announcement, I wasn’t sure about BUT Keito really does have this softness and delicacy to him that i can now totally see why they hired him for Rui. Also during the fight scene between Hoshitani and Ugawa and Keito puts a hand in front of Ugawa or pulls him back and is like ‘no’ and how Ugawa just obeys him! I really liked their interactions with each other in the stage! And there’s a cute part/adlib with Tanzawa which I’ll mention later. Keito as a pirate seriously! I am so glad I got his bromides and his sakura bromide is the best! I kind like how awkward he looks in the bromides even though he DOES look much better in real life. He’s like Takasaki Shouta; more more handsome in person than in photos. Keito can do no wrong <3 Guys, I could VERY easily become a Keito fan, but I’m not gunna allow myself... for many reasons... but seriously... I really do enjoyed whatever the hell he does.
Tumblr media
Kitagawa Naoya as Sawatari Eigo: I’m going to be honest, I purpose didn’t pay attention to him all that much BECAUSE I know my friend is seeing the stage for him very soon and I didn’t wanna pay attention and end up spoiling his performance for her ^_^ BUT what I will say is that I enjoyed his performance and he looked really good in the pirate suit and eye patch. He seemed to get along ell with everyone too ^_^ and suited his character. I don’t think he got as much stage time and lines as I was expecting though...
Tanzawa Seiji as Inumine Seishiro: Tanzawa was the comedy relief of the musical. In all honesty, actually, it got about 30 minutes into the musical, and I noticed there hadn’t been ANY comedic relief, and I was starting to worry a bit that this wasn’t going to have any Higawari’s or comedy relief or anything, but then this dumbo walked in and he was so sweet and silly and innocent, but he’s so dumb, but so funny!
Towards the end of the musical, Inu and the gang walk in to say they’ll help Otori team, and Inu throws his icecream (which is a plushie) up to Rui/Keito and unfortunately Keito caught the cream side rather than the cone side and the entire audience started laughing, and Keito just looked at his catch very unimpressed and without even cracking, and slolwly grabbed the cone side. Then Inu decided to climb UP the pole to get to the upper stage which was also hilarious because the pole is RIGHT next to the stairs which also lead up to the upper stage and Ugawa was just looking at him and the stairs like ‘use the stairs idiot’ xD
Takano Akira as Toraishi Izumi: As soon as he came on stage I immediately remembered why he looked so damn familiar. It’s so weird that I’ve seen this kid since he was like 12... he’s growing up so well! Also he reminds me a lot of Suzuki Katsuhiro in terms of how he looks. I really, really enjoyed (maybe a bit too much) his grey t-shirt that he wore when they were in their practise gear. His shirt is like wide at the top so you can get a good view of his collar bone and stuff - I am just a walking pervert aren’t I... he’s done quite a lot of 2.5 and I’d like to see his other performances, especially his Ichigo. Oh my! His profile is now EX-Dream5 member! So he left to persure 2.5 and acting instead?! wow.... oh wait, they disbanded last year?! Oh this all makes so much sense... anyway(!). I do this this kid will go far, he always had potential, even when he debuted as Dream5, so I’m excited to see what other stages and such he does in the future.
Hoshimoto Yuzuki as Ugawa Akira: I really don’t have much to say about him... I don’t know how to explain my thoughts on his as Ugawa without some people possible taking it the wrong way but the only ways I can describe it is; he played Ugawa very feminine and too feminine, which I never saw in his character in the anime, and I also feel like Yuzuki didn’t play him like a little shit enough. It just sounded like he was moaning the entire time rather than being a mean little shit that he is in the anime. He just wasn’t the juicy little shit that I wanted to back hand which I what you would expect from a performance of Ugawa.
Tumblr media
Student Council: Hatakeyama Ryo as Hiragi Tsubasa: I thought I knew Hatakeyama from somewhere! As soon as he came on stage I thought ‘he looked awfully familiar’ and while he does have the face that quite a few other actors have, when I saw his profile and saw he was in Brother’s Complex, I was like ‘that!!’ xD OH HE WAS ALSO IN SAIYUKI!!! THAT’S HOW I DAMN KNOW HIM!! He’s been in Haikyuu, Amnesia, Kuroko no Basket also, so he’s not exactly unknown xD
Kiyama Haruki as Otori Itsuki: You could tell as soon as Kiyama came on stage that he’s supposed to be in the west end and on broadway. His performance is/was flawless and so captivating, but also has a very narcissistic vibe, and full of ego that it’s obvious he’s from that side of the theatre world. I think he was a bit too egotistic for Otori. Nevertheless, I think he gave an amazing performance, and (like I said) his dances and his singing was flawless and you could not look away when he was on stage. Although BECAUSE of his background, at the beginning of the musical he got two whole (FULL!) songs to perform which I feel is unfair, especially when at the end, the two teams only get to do like half a performance. I understand that because of his background and experience, he’s more capable of pulling off a full performance or two but he is not the main character, so why does he get to do TWO full performances when the main guys got only half a performance? That’s where I think it’s unfair, but I understand WHY he got to do it. I just want to see my boys do a full song performance okay... =[
Not going to like, I didn’t pay even a milisecond of attention to these three; Takizawa Ryo as Akatsuki Kyoji, Tsurimoto Minami as Yuzuriha Christian Lion and Taka as Sazanami Sakuya, EXCEPT I strongly feel like Taka lipsynced the opening song while the other 4 were clearly singing, because he hardly moved his mouth... but other than that, I do not remember their performances at all.
And finally Ensemble: I already talked about how amazing their dance performances were and one of them did catch my eye but I can’t tell you who it is unless I research how tall they all all; pretty much the tallest one is the one who caught my attention.
---
And that’s my review done! I hope that was good enough ^_^
Now the goodies:
Tumblr media
Look how adorably awkward Keito looks!! Also Shougo is freaking flawless and beautiful as usual <3
I hope you enjoyed that! Have a good evening, day, night, whenever you read this!ke
Glee Memories 1x5: The Rhodes Not Taken
A long, long time ago, as Glee was approaching graduation in Season 3, I found myself nostalgic with some rare free time on my hands. So I decided to rewatch the series from the beginning and jot down some memories, discrepancies that have arisen since, fave quotes, tally solos - all that good stuff, strictly for shits and giggles.
8 years later (eek!) and once more I find myself with an unexpected abundance of free time. With so many revisiting or being newly introduced to the show between binge watching during Quarantine and all the tragedy that has surrounded the show since it went off the air, I figured I’d finish what I started. And by finish, I mean go through the end of S3. Cause I truly cannot acknowledge what happened after that. Except for 5B.
Kicking this off by reposting the first 15 episodes I already went through. Enjoy!
1x5: The Rhodes Not Taken Glee Club Invitational posters go up. A showchoir invitational means other showchoirs are invited to perform but it’s not a competition. …but it’s Glee
“Can we please talk about the giant elephant in the room?” “Your sexuality?” Me: hmmm…I think I like this gal. Thus began my fondness for Ms. Lopez
Okay, Mr. Schue just suggested that Quinn’s solo will work if he layers Mercedes and Santana in with her…um, 1. he knew then they’d sound awesome together, yay, but 2. why not instead just give the solo to Santana or Mercedes?
“That Rachel chick makes me wanna light myself on fire” – Puck just foreshadowed my future
Mr. Schue just said he’d give Tina some of Quinn’s verses in the solo to ease up her stress cause Finn’s worried about the baby. Seriously, what universe is this where he’s immediately thinking of giving Santana, Mercedes, and Tina solos?!
Emma is telling Finn that he shouldn’t attempt an athletic scholarship because very few kids get them…but he still goes for one and is heartbroken about it 2 years later. #BlessFinnsHeart #oops
It still makes me snicker that Jacob asks Rachel to show him her bra…and that it makes me remember I saw Lea Michele in Spring Awakening where she got a lil naked. And I get uncomfortable.
Haaaa – Will goes on April’s website and there’s basically porno music playing. Awesome.
APRIL RHODES!!! Oh, Kristen Chenoweth, you are soooo fake tanned!
It’s bout 10 seconds in and I already adore April Rhodes all over again.
“Then Ralph had an affair with Vinnie, I had a set of mixed race twins…”
”You guys look like the world’s worst Beneton ad”
I said it when I first saw it and I’ll say it again: Lea Michele has a beautiful voice, but Kristin Chenoweth is a damn professional who knows how to use her instrument. The style she can put into Maybe This Time, His Name, and Alone, making them each unique to their genre and still giving an exceptional rendition of it speaks to the genius of the Cheno…whereas Lea Michele will do a high pop belt interpretation of her songs 98% of the time.
”April should stay. I adore her.”
So far, with the exception of the Technicolor zebra ensemble, Mercedes is dressing pretty normal. Actually, she looks pretty fashionable and hot about 60% of the time. Not an animal print in sight. When did that change? WHY did that change? Amber Riley looks so good so far!
”I once got a cake out of a kid’s birthday party – with the candles still lit!”
”You’re a really good actor, Finn” – oh, if only you knew his ‘dream’ then, Rachel
”Talent doesn’t age, sweetheart” *wink* Oh Cheno, I love you.
“Me me me me me me” “You you you you you you you” Yeah. Still not funny. Cheap joke that I’ve heard a million times since elementary school choir vocal warmups.
“Oh, Bambi. I cried so hard when those hunters shot your mommy.”
”I’m pretty sure it’s not a fake ID because he looks like an eleven-year old milkmaid”
”I think it was April. Her backpack’s always clinkin’ with empties”
“We have obligations as teachers, Will, to give kids opportunities for growth and enrichment” – I needed her to tattoo that on Will’s forehead so he was reminded everyday. Cause he forgot that for about 80% of the kids in the club. Everyday.
Seriously, Lea Michele is real good at the crying scenes. Like, impressively good. Makes your heart break a little cause she ugly cries.
“Um, do you have any NyQuil? I could use a little pick-me-up.”
”That Finn Hudson is one cutie pie I gots mah eye on”
Seriously, April Rhodes was top bitch of Glee when Glee ran the school like the Cheerios and athletes do in current Glee. She was like, Crey-Crey Rachel Berry and Top Bitch In Charge Quinn rolled into one. Do NOT fuck with her, Rachel.
“Sober? I’m rollin’ on a fistful of horse tranquilizers. I can’t feel mah lips.”
”I mean, that’s how you get better, y’know? Singing with people who are better than you.” – I totally forgot that there was a time that Glee said things I thought were really smart and wholeheartedly agreed with (especially if you replace ‘singing’ with ‘performing’ or ‘working with’ in that statement, then it’s even more accurate)
I have never been able to listen to Alone the same way again. These two do it so insanely well.
Rachel’s eating pizza at the bowling alley. Pepperoni pizza. Too bad she’s not only vegetarian, but a vegan. #oops
Rachel kisses her bowling ball before taking her turn. EW. Emma is somewhere having seizures from all the germs.
For the second time, Rachel and Finn kiss while he’s still with Quinn. Only this time, he now knows Quinn’s pregnant with what he thinks is his child. How was he NEVER called out for this cheating?
“This is a hot damn mess.”
Wait…in the pilot, Finn said he’d been dating Quinn for about 4 months…why is anyone (let alone everyone) shocked to hear Finn’s the babydaddy? #oops
Finn dropped off an application for a music scholarship for college…as a sophomore#oops
“I hope you have fun playing house with Quinn while you languish in your little ensemble but MY dreams are bigger than that…and they’re bigger than YOU” oh Rachel…you will eat those words in about two and a half years#oops
Oh. Hell. No. Mr. Schue just walked in and stopped vocal warm-ups to say the house was packed. Nice music teacher …but it’s Glee
“I’m hoggin’ their sunshine”
”You were right, Mr. Schue: she’d massacre Mariah in a diva-off”
”I realized being a star didn’t make me feel as special as being your friend” Man. I’m remembering why I used to love Rachel. The things they did to her character…Season One Rachel, I’m so used to S2 and S3 Rachel, I barely recognize you.
Somebody to Love really pinpoints that New Directions was better then. I mean, talent-wise in terms of dancing. They only had Finn who was a bad dancer and Puck soooometimes looked a lil akward, but everyone else danced real well. Now they have no Matt, and added Sam (who I love but can sometimes look real uncoordinated), Rory and Joe who are both bad movers per Glee Project. Oy vey.
