i haven't actually looked at them next to the originals yet so guess what time it is!!!! LET'S COMPARE

starting with volume 1. iconic. show stopping. masterpiece. the mona lisa of natsuyuu SURELY i reproduced every single detail perfectly such that it kickstarts my career as a forgery artist RIGHT

as i was toying w the idea of doing this redraw thing i was still working on collecting my Images and Pictures so i kinda started taking note of a few small things here & there and one of them was just. the general gist of this cover SO LIKE that's why it's so good LOL

forgor the flowers tho. i literally forget everything that isn't a character like immediately BUT OK CUT ME SOME SLACK like after a point the covers start being whole ass scenes which are SO much easier to remember shit abt than the fuckin Green Void (p sure this is the last green void cover tho)

8/10 composition is gr8 but details like the shirt & the yellow flowers are wrong, also the stick is backwards. i literally looked up what that thing is called and forgot already tee hee

u know what the green void turned into bushes and i think that's beautiful.... like points for creativity on my part tbh. like to be completely honest. 3/10 i got the characters right

OK THIS ONE.... i almost died irl trying to remember this shit, even before i started and i was still viewing the covers i was like there is no way in HELL im remembering this shit for vol 10. and i was right

like. Purple. White Mask. Antlers. WILD layered clothing. at first i drew the mask as an actual deer skull but later had a straight up epiphany and redrew it like that which... still not correct but I MEAN.... IT'S PRETTY GOOD

i cant believe most of the purple is the bg oughgh his clothes are WHITE..... this is fucked up. i DID remember the stick tho, bells and everything!! actually bells and nothing else!!!

chan is probably one of the most patient caregivers you'd ever have

if not THE MOST patient

he never wants to hurry you or push you further than what you need and are comfortable with

he'll help you of course

but with things like figuring out your emotions

or maybe smaller things like wanting to pick a snack to have

or building or colouring something

those things he'd never hurry along

time is precious in his eyes, and so is giving you space to figure things out on your own

and THEN if you ask for help, he'll come and help

or if you're in a situation that he can feel you wanting to step away from

then he's there too, showing that you can always rely on him when you want to

he's also the type take pics of you on his phone every time you do something cute

i think he's not very outspoken about the care he shows as a caregiver

he'd rather be silent about any good deeds

like he'd do something for you without you realizing it and he'll just sit back and watch everything go smoothly with a smile

but with other caregivers he might share his concerns

he always thinks he can be a better caregiver, even if he's trying his best

he'd be the type to carry you in from the car if you've fallen asleep instead of waking you up

that's the best way to describe it

suddenly you wake up in your bed, last thing you remember is sitting in the car with binnie

and he won't acknowledge it if you don't do it first

he'd gladly lend his body to you if it makes you comfortable

you need a lap to sleep in? he's sitting down for you to use his immediately

you feel a bit cold? he's hugging you tight from behind to share his body heat

you're in need of something to hug? well, his arm is free and there for you to use for all your hugging needs

the second you're left alone for some reason, he'd have an itch to constantly check up on you to make sure you're alright

other caregivers might look at him and think that he's a bad caregiver because he doesn't coddle you and interact with you all the time

but the more they see him in action, the more they see that he always puts his baby's needs first, before anything else

he'd let you use his body as a tree to climb if you got too much energy

he'd also never get mad at you

if he can feel himself get irritated, he takes a breather bc he knows he can look really scary when he's mad and he never wants you to be scared, especially when you're regressed

when regressed

okay but little binnie is a jokester

he likes pulling his hyungs or caregiver(s) along with his little shenanigans without telling them anything

he's also LOUD

like very very loud

and hyper, but mostly loud

like, you'll never doubt that he's feeling small, just bc of the sheer volume this boy has

he likes hugs and skinship but gets easily flustered when that happens in front of other people he may consider his friends in headspace or people he looks up to

but he's also a little silly about it

like, as soon as someone cuddles him in any way, he'd run off, acting like it's the most outrageous thing ever

but when he turns around and sees he isn't being followed with the "threat" of more cuddles, he seeks the person who tried to cuddle him again, looking for more, secretly loving the closeness

but if he's sad or hurt you better give him hugs and cuddles STAT

he needs the tight hugs and the patting on his back with small shushes, or else he will NEVER feel good again (that's how he feels anyway)

his voice is DEFINITELY lighter when he feels small

like, he sounds so cute, no matter if he baby talks or not, just bc his voice is so light and he giggles loads :(((

he's also talking about himself in third person a lot

also, cute noises galore

those cute noises are mostly "da"

and he'll say them randomly and sometimes when he doesn't wanna say actual words

then it's his caregiver(s)' job to find out what the meaning behind "da!" is this time

and he's a v v scared baby, so remember to choose cartoons and movies and such carefully bc you might end up with a crying binnie or a binnie with nightmares

Hyunjin

as a caregiver

hyunjin,,, he's the type to baby you so much that you become very much dependent on him

changbin was the type to only fix problems when they presented themselves too much of a challenge for you?

well, hyunjin is the complete opposite

how dare there be anything in your way?

he'll fix all of your problems and then coo at you like you'd just experienced something bad

hyunjin with 1000% babytalk to you

i don't care that you may not regress young, he will babytalk you regardless

like,, the cringe way that you see those overly attached parents do to their spawn

he's also the type to have his entire focus on you

the building he's in could be burning and he wouldn't care bc you're there

...that's an exaggeration bc he'd save you from said burning building

bottom line is that he's not ever taking his eyes off you by his own free will

and if he can get away with it, he's definitely carrying you everywhere

he's also the first/only one i see being cool with being a caregiver for multiple littles

and he'll still try to give each one the same amount of attention, but he figures out at some point that it's just not possible

he'll still try though

he's the type to yell

but in fake/silly anger

"Yah!! why is my baby so adorable when asking for ice cream for dinner?! how can i say no to that when they're so cute??!! aaaahhh!!!"

he just loves his baby a lot (maybe too much) and he's not afraid to show and/or yell it to the world

when regressed

i don't know what it is about small hyunjin or why he's like this, but a big thing for him when he's little is saying small things in english

maybe it's the praise that goes along with it when he does it

maybe it's bc it's a language he's not the best at, so he feels smaller

but sometimes he'd just say some small english sentence, looking around at the people around him when he's done

he loves oversized clothing when he's small

he wants to be able to pitch his sweatshirts like a tent, that's how big he wants them

sometimes he wants them so much that if there aren't any oversized clothes for him to wear, he threatens you with not wearing clothes at all until he gets to wear a huge hoodie or something like that

he's a brat and loves teasing people but as soon as there's a chance of there being some sort of consequence for his actions, he's apologizing profusely and backtracking

either that or he's doubling down

it can be either in any given situation, you can never predict how he'll react

he's cute and he knows it, but if anybody else calls him cute he finds somewhere to hide

mostly under blankets but sometimes you'll also find him under the couch

completely flustered

he's almost always giggling

and he keeps jumping around, like a little bunny, mostly when he doesn't know what to do with himself

i feel like someone who'd be well equipped to handle him when he's small, would be minho

whether he's hyunjin's caregiver or just an uncle type, he's the one who can read hyunjin the best and deals with his antics effortlessly

as a caregiver

physically reassuring !!!!!!

as a caregiver, he loves making sure his baby is okay by holding their hand,, placing a hand on their shoulder or back, or maybe even just hugging them

it's all to get their attention and feel him there

he does so much for his baby's sake, even if he doesn't really care for it

like, if you like a particular tv show but he doesn't, he'll go out of his way to watch it with you, just because he knows you enjoy it

he's also really good at giving praise

if he wants you to know that you did something that made him happy he'll say that ofc, but also the small things, like putting one of your toys away

"good job, baby!"

but if he's praised as a caregiver, make sure to keep an eye out for red ears, bc he's so easily flustered when the praise is for him

he may act like he's receiving it well and he's most likely like "of course, i'm the greatest caregiver of all time!" but his ears don't lie

he's silly but not in a very obvious way when he's in caregiver mode

he likes to make little jokes, inside jokes mainly, things he knows will get a laugh, to get his baby to giggle a bit and then he goes back for more cuddles

he tries to be so brave for his baby when it comes to animals, but when you're not looking, he lets out his scared expressions

he complains a bit if his baby wants to look at or touch creepy crawlers, but he will never limit your curiosity

he will usually just keep a good distance, himself

he may forget the small details sometimes

like, if you don't like peas or if you prefer your drink a special way

but he always knows things like how to make you happy, how to comfort you when you're sad

and when you know stuff like that, the little things don't matter all that much

when regressed

clumsy clumsy baby

like, if you go out with him, parks are probably the best bc then he has something soft to fall on when he stumbles

flappy hands when he's excited

now, because of his social anxiety, jisung needs extra special care when he's regressed

he needs personal grounding methods, an emergency plan for panic attacks and a list of comfort items

he also does better if he has one primary caregiver

then he knows who to go to and they'd know how to handle bad moments

a grounding method of his is probably the 54321 method

yk, list 5 things you can see around you, 4 things you can touch around you, 3 things you hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste

though, he does need to be guided through that, which is why a caregiver for him is a little essential

at least a babysitter

his caregiver/babysitter also has to make sure he has mobile games available or a hand console for video games

while he may not regress very young, he still needs a lot of care, equivalent to the care someone regressed younger would need

i imagine him being non-verbal if he's not somewhere he's comfortable and with people he trusts completely

so, a lot of tugging on clothes when he needs attention or tapping his cg's shoulder

very very easy to tears

bc when he's regressed, he doesn't hold anything back

as a caregiver

felix is such a sensitive person

like, we all know he's a big sunshine but he's also blames himself a lot and feels guilty easily

so, he might need to be reassured a lot that he's doing a good job

otherwise he might start thinking that he's a bad caregiver and isolate himself

he'd have some idea of what to do when caring for someone younger, as he does have a little sister, but he's also the middle child, so he would probably need a bit of help

i'm thinking that, yes, he'd take care of things like making you snacks, helping you with clothes, and all the other essential things, but as more of an older brother type of caregiver than as a parental figure

his go-to thing to do with you is cuddle

cuddle while watching tv, cuddle while reading books, cuddle while getting you to sleep/waking you up, it's just his favourite way to do anything

he's also rly possessive over you, so it just works out rly well if you're constantly in his arms

if his members were to talk to you when you're regressed or baby you, even if you weren't regressed, he'd quickly bring is arms around you, pouting that you're his

one of his other fave things to do with you is 'beauty salon'

you get all kinds of creative freedom with putting nail polish and makeup on him

when you're done, sitting in anticipation, waiting for him to pick up the mirror and tell you what he thinks, he always makes sure to be 'pleasantly surprised'

he knows, of course, that it wouldn't be anywhere near the professional looks he gets in comebacks and such, but he always loves what you do

(and even if it looks absolutely terrible, he always finds at least one thing to praise)

when regressed

so, have we all seen him patting himself to self-soothe? bc i have

anxious little bean

he just wants to be comforted more than anything

he will cling onto his caregiver at any given chance, but sometimes doubt gets the best of him and he thinks that people around him hate that he's this clingy

and then he tries his best to self-soothe with touch he remembers being comforting

like wrapping his arms around himself

or, in situations where he's trying to be lowkey or feels a bit worse about himself, he pats or strokes his hair

be on the lookout for these !!!!!! bc that means that he needs a prescription of ALL THE HUGS!!!!

cuddle piles are the best

he might also try to lighten his voice bc it doesn't sound right in his ears to have such a deep voice when being 4 or so years old

just making sure that he knows he doesn't have to do it and that's he's a tiny kid regardless should do the trick

oh yeah, and remember those animal onesies that were rly popular some years ago? the rly soft and snuggly ones? (ahem i have 3 ahem)

he will practically live in one if he had the chance

even better if the one he got is of a kangaroo

bc he miss home and then he got extra pockets heheh

he's the kind to silently tuck himself into his caregiver's side

as a caregiver

very very soft-spoken

could look like he's just a pushover bc he lets his baby get away with a lot of things

but he does have a limit

people just aren't quick to notice bc he's very soft about it

when he says "no more" he says it quietly

he doesn't need it to be broadcasted to anybody who isn't the one he's saying it to

and that's partly why his baby listens to him so well

he doesn't make a big scene about when his boundaries have been met, nor does he put you on the spot

he handles things privately and quietly

doesn't mean he isn't filled with sass that is ready to be unleashed at any moment

i don't think he'd sass his baby too much, but he'd sass his members a bit extra when you're around bc you always giggle and clap your hands at it

and maybe once in a while you'd also sass his members

the reaction from him is a bit of pride but most of all he thinks it's funny, when you haven't crossed a line

the other members can't believe how much his sassy nature has rubbed off on you though

the look at you and him in shock, mouths wide open while seungmin just smiles and shrugs

always has his camera ready for shooting some pictures of his baby

probably has a whole photo album just of his baby when they're regressed

his favourite thing is to take you to the aquarium or to the zoo

just somewhere you don't normally go

and then he gets to take pics of you being fascinated by all the things around you

when regressed

i feel like seungmin is the most independent when regressed

most times he's just in his own little world

he doesn't need a whole lot

of course, it'd be nice to not have to do things like cook for yourself, but when snacks exist and when you can buy entire meals, finished

he's old enough to work a microwave when he's regressed

so really, he doesn't need a cg

wouldn't complain if one fell into his lap though

that doesn't mean he doesn't thoroughly enjoy it when there are people around him

he loves being a little menace to his hyungs

so so so giggly!!

like, he giggles almost all the time when he's small

when he's watching tv, when he's eating, when he's running around, etc.

he doesn't treat stuffed animals all that nicely...

maybe it's because he's a little older than most of the group when they're regressed

he might, once in a while, like to cuddle with a soft stuffed animal when he's going to sleep but other than that, nah

he just pokes them in their eyes, pulls on their ears, just doing something that would make other littles gasp in horror

he's the only one where i'm pretty certain he also pet regresses

or at least likes to pretend that he's a puppy when he's regressed, i don't know but he's a tiny puppy sometimes

which means being even rougher with the stuffed animals, because if he can fit even an arm or ear of the plushie into his mouth, it's getting chewed on and roughed up

you know the way that dogs swing a toy around when they're playing?

Jeongin

as a caregiver

if you don't care about if your stuff gets dropped or maybe ruined, go ahead and give them to jeongin

but um,, don't give him stuff that breaks easily

he's broken a few of his baby's figurines and it's rly a wonder that it happens sometimes

there's a shortage of bowls that aren't made out of plastic

so, he may be the caregiver, but you really look out for each other, since he needs a hand too

he loves singing songs to have his baby dance to them

(it's mostly gonna be trot songs, and if you complain enough; trot versions of skz's songs)

as he's not in a position to take care of anybody usually, yk with being the youngest in the group, he's not too sure in a caregiving role

he'd probably be more at ease being called a baby sitter, instead of a caregiver, as he usually just feels like he's making sure no fatal accidents happen on his watch

and that the house is relatively clean in the process

you'd think he may not be one for a lot of hugs and cuddles, but i'd say almost the opposite

idk, there's just something about being the one to take care of another person instead of being the youngest that makes him wanna cuddle his baby

not a lot but enough

like, for movies or when you ask for cuddles on nights you can't sleep

and ofc he'll hug you if you asked for it (of if you're too adorable for him to stop himself but shhh)

i think one part of being a caregiver that he rly excels at is brushing teeth

he'll be so careful when brushing his baby's teeth

he knows how to angle the toothbrush to get all the crevices from years of figuring out how to effectively brush his teeth with braces

and he knows how it can hurt if people are not careful when dealing with teeth and gums so he's super gentle

when regressed

now, not to be harsh

but he's a little shit

and he knows he's safe when he's regressed bc no one would dare hurt him when he's small

so he won't even get the usual shoulder punch he'd get when he isn't regressed

and he's about to make that fact everyone's problem

and when he knows he's on the verge of a punishment, he runs to hyunjin to save him

and he does. every. single. time

baby jeongin eats a lot and he does it quickly

you've made him a snack and turn around for a second to get some for yourself?

he's already finished and asking for more

you fear that one day he'll get an upset stomach bc of the speed of which he's eating but that day never comes

fortunately for you

if you want a little baby innie who's just cute and sweet and adorable, then you have to be there when he's just woken up

he's just soft and fuzzy there, just a tiny baby

when it's time for bed, he's also a bit quieter and lowkey

you tend to be that way after a whole day of annoying everyone around you

it's draining

but it's one of his cg's favourite time of the day

he's still a silly little boy, but he's more prone to doing what's asked of him

like, he'll be all silly, making jokes and talking back but when you ask him to raise his arms to get him in pajamas, he'll do it

the same with going to sleep

he's not a difficult one to get to go to sleep

he just needs a night light and sweet words beforehand and then he's good to go to dreamland

aaaaaand here are my thoughts and things and whatever translation weirdness I find as I re-read ch 1 of Trigun Maximum vol 6!

(NOTE: I'm reading the Dark Horse [physical] and the Overhaul [online] translations side-by-side)

I've already commented on how this chapter starts here.

so this is interesting. Dark Horse seems to imply Wolfwood knows about as much about what Vash is as Meryl does - whereas the Overhaul makes it clear that Wolfwood is in the know, and he's not telling.

this isn't a translation discrepancy - I just love Vash and Brandon's dynamic, and this bit especially just. tickles me.

and across the next two pages, I love the contrast we see between Murdock and Meryl - someone with an itchy trigger finger wanting guns to "protect others" VS someone who was given a gun for her own protection and who broke down the first time she shot a person.

just wanna point out that there IS a difference between Dark Horse's more general usage of "women, most of all" and the Overhaul's more nuanced usage of "a woman like you" here. recall ch 3 of Trigun Maximum vol 4 where, in the last Papa Stryfe flashback we saw, he says (in the Overhaul) "You know how much I despise guns, but...a tiny girl like you has to carry one." from that, we know the concerning factor isn't that Meryl's a woman, but that she's small.

...I wonder if this is a case of literal VS figurative/more nuanced translations...

also, I'm rly struck by how Vash interacts with Murdock throughout this chapter. here comes this asshole being all rude to him, talking shit about his marksmanship, after which Vash. politely applauds this asshole's. and treats him like a person. like...he doesn't make himself into a doormat for Murdock - he lets him have his space and do his thing while simultaneously holding true to his own. there's such compassion for humanity and such strength in his own path and conviction in that. like...Vash doesn't get defensive about his marksmanship - in the end, regardless of whether ppl do or don't understand it, he has his beliefs and his way of doing things, and he's sticking to it. 🥹

just a little comparison - they basically say the same thing, but ngl "ohhh, look at me! I fired a bullet! banzaiii!!" has lived rent-free in my head from the moment I first read it 🤣

Hmmm let's say some mundane daily issues stressed them out and nothing too grand. Ofc 300% serious per usual:

Kamui - goes into full 🥺 mode and waits to be comforted by men. His stress reliever is crying in man's arms or overal physical + emotional comfort. 6/10 on healthy scale and 🌈/10 on gayness one

Sorata - meme it all away. Deals with stress via humor. King. 9/10

Arashi - looks like a type to bottle up. May try some hot tea and meditation so 4/10

Yuzuriha - has no poker face whatsoever, can't keep stiff upper lip to save her life. Will end up bawling her eyes to someone and getting comforted (not in gay 🥺 way like Kamui does tho). Maybe will have Inuki comfort her a bit. Effective overall plus she's 14 so 7/10

Karen - will bottle up and put up a fake smile :< also do some self-deprecating and self sabotaging thing like drug her teammates and go out to fight and die alone :< although her style rocks so 4/10 on common sense scale but 🔥/10 on vibes and sexiness

Aoki - idk rly, guess go to soap lady's hotel room one late at night. To chat with her about protecting kekais duh, ofc no funny business. Happy family man with ounce of common sense yes but can he resist the temptation? 9/10 on he should deal with stress via hooking up with Karen scale

Kotori - cries herself out and gets comforted by her brother or slips into insanity and wants to get crucified no in between. 5/10

Good boy Fuuma - deal with stress by comforting and protecting Kotori and Kamui. Especially Kamui tho, the more touchy feely they are the better Fuuma is feeling. 8/10 on healthy scale since bottling up but 🌈/10 on gayness one

Antichrist Fuuma - I can't possibly state here post will get flagged as explicit. But let's just say it has to do with all kinds of explosions

Subaru - he doesn't deal with stress in any productive way possible, he mops around, smokes it out or sufferes in silence masochistically. That's how 🤕 kinks got as bad as they are, king tried to repress them. Alternatively he deal with stress by wanting to be stabbed. If he dealt with stress by getting railed I would have given him higher rating but this way 1/10 for the masochism and every BDSM-5 mental illness

Yuuto - he fucks it out, no questions. 10/10, Subaru this should be your role model

Kanoe - copes with stress via being sexiest person ever, flirting with absolutely everyone and having sex every day. Also while having them government salary and not doing jack shit beside dreaming in dick throne and having ominous prophecies. Dream coping mechanism 11/10

Hinoto - lies for funsies and makes false false prophecies. She sends seals into death for fun and apperently has a thing for making Kamui's life as hard as it can possibly be. Zero coping mechanism she gave into her dark side but at least we've seen some hinoto-cest pics so for that 2/10

Kusanagi - idk about him rly he seems like most rational one? So something about spilling sorrows to the bartender. Idk let's rate it 7/10

Keiichi - only boy with common sense in this manga he deals with problems resiliently but actually talks about them. 9/10

Nataku - guess they go out and die?? 0/10 on any scale

Kakyou - his coping mechanism is looking pretty and ominous ambiguous prophetic lines. Also I guess eternal pretty boy looks since how does he look the same in TB flashbacks and in X, Kakyou plz reveal me your secret?? 7/10 cuz of L'oreal hair

Satsuki - guess she either does carnage or gets all touchy with Kanoe. Also gets comforted by Yuuto from time to time. Girl has the range and taste so 8/10

honestly I feel like cahiers are decent with posca because theyre not really absorbent and posca marks tend to sit on the page as opposed to soaking through anyways. umm i wouldnt like... use it to do a whole posca piece or anything but i use poscas just for pops of color in my sketchbook pretty often and it holds up ok. sometimes u can see the shadow of the color through the paper bc its thin but thats mostly it. i took pics of some sketchbook pgs and how the back of the page looks so you can see for yourself ( cw for bakudeku LOL ) ...theres a lot of like.. normal brush pen ink and india ink that penetrates the paper more like even compared to the black posca

I feel like I’ve probably talked about this before in another ask post but i dont really think about style because its one of those things that artists should try to change depending upon intention, what you’re drawing and what you want to communicate etc. what people often recognize as style are quirks that an artist maintains throughout changing their subject and approach.....ANYWAYS. thats all to say my style probably just comes out of normal stuff like looking at other art and thinking “I want to do that” or trying out different mediums and methods and settling with whatever feels the best LOL. It’s always changing & growing! Because I’m always learning new stuff!

And the scene when they have a sleepover and ken wakes up first and looks over to daisuke sleeping LOL idk subtle stuff you can read very clearly as like burgeoning queer moments.. theyre recognizable from my own queer childhood and i love that in a kids anime. also at the end of the series when theyre fighting the final boss dude and ken grabs daisukes arm to ask him to jogress but hes shivering and daisuke just turns to say “youre shaking....” and in revenge of diaboromon when ken goads daisuke into endurance running by taunting him about soccer LOL (jock romance). but one i rly want to mention is theres this youtube video about how ken and daisuke’s honorifics change over the course of the series and how significant it is when they switch over to first name basis and honestly i think about it a lot THEY HAVE GREAT SCENES!! man i gotta figure out what to do with juyun :/ he’s one of my absolute fave ocs but his gw2 version is kinda boring which makes me sad! also here is a couple pics of him bc i know that helps me to remember what character ppl are talking about lol

so like, og juyun is the god of beauty in his world, and him being a literal god while eless is Just Some Guy, is something i try to keep the vibe of in most aus i make. so eless is a charr, and i made her from the olmakhan bc her family, and her decision to leave her family, is also important to her character. meanwhile, juyun is a norn in the order of whispers. and like, that’s all i gave him?? and like, there is the fact that he’s from mainland tyria and eless has been relatively isolated her whole life, that sort of fits their dynamic, but i want juyun to be more special 🥺 he’s my special little beautiful boy 🥺

so like, i have three ideas rn. i ended up rambling a bit, so here’s a quick list: juyun becomes aurenes champion/branded by aurene, juyun is actually a saltspray dragon, or juyun is an avatar of lyssa (could also be an avatar of a spirit of the wild, but idk which one)

the rest of my thoughts and rambles are below the cut

first is that he gets branded by aurene. the vibes fit him SO well, like god!juyun literally has opalescent skin, so aurene crystals are sooooo perfect for him. the issue tho, is idk why he’d be branded. like, i could go the route of him being aurene’s champion, but then i’d have to figure out who the commander is. i wouldn’t want it to be onyx cuz they’re from different stories for me? so it’s like. they shouldn’t know each other. having eless be the commander would be So Good, bc that lets me have them interact a LOT and i Love Them. but then i have to deal with the fact that she’s from elona so idk how she’d get to mainland tyria at the right time to become the commander :/ like, it could work? but it would almost be easier to make her from the legions, and that doesn’t feel right to me…

my second idea is that juyun could be a saltspray dragon! i like this bc the color scheme and vibes fit him really well, and bc he’s literally meant to be (half?) korean, so him having a direct link to cantha is cool. like, norn can be asian and stuff, but it’s mostly just looks at that point? anyway, the issues i run into here is that idk if all saltspray dragons can shapeshift? like there’s kuunavang/navan obvi, but idk about the others? and i don’t know a ton about the saltspray dragons in general, tho i think that’s just bc there’s not a lot to know? i also then have to decide if he left cantha, bc if he didn’t, then he and eless meet WAY late in the story. and if he DID leave, then i gotta figure out how, when, and why he did.

my last idea is that maybe he’s like. an avatar or something? i thought about him being linked to one of the spirits of the wild, but idk what one it would be, yknow? but then he could be an avatar of one of the six? like, he is sooo similar to lyssa! he’s literally a mesmer and i already associate him with illusions, glamours, and masks. the only issue here is that idk why he’d be here. like. i looked into avatars on the wiki a lil bit, but i still feel like i don’t know enough >:/

honestly, i think both the saltspray dragon and avatar ideas are stopped only by the fact that i don’t feel like i know enough. i think a lot of that is cuz i didn’t play gw1? (technically i played the free trial cuz my cousin played it, but that doesn’t really count) then again, i could always just. make stuff up. i can fill in blanks with whatever hand-wavey stuff i want! except that i’m rly indecisive lol and i like having characters like this be as canon-compliant as possible :(

returning to juyun as aurenes champion though, i think it might work the best? like, eless could have left the olmakhan and elona during the personal story. maybe juyun does the like, 10-50 story, and then eless shows up as part of the priory? and eless becomes the commander, and juyun is just like, there to help out. and then with lws2, maybe they split up? so juyun goes after the egg, while eless does something else? then again they don’t need to split up i think, cuz aurene could still just choose juyun.

so like, i think champion!juyun would be the easiest to figure out, but then his ‘special-ness’ takes a while to happen. saltspray!juyun gives him ties to cantha, but idk if it makes sense for there to be another saltspray dragon that can transform, and that he’d want to look like a norn. avatar!juyun is the most similar to his og version, but idk a lot about the gods and their avatars, and it being so similar might be a lil boring.

mm i think i might be leaning towards champion tbh, with saltspray dragon coming in second for now

Peak story time please!!!

What was the first thing that peaked you, and when did you peak (not just specifically “peak trans,” but anything “peak patriarchy”)?

okay so in terms of like “peak patriarchy” tbh it’s hard to pick one moment. i grew up in a pretty patriarchal society & country. i was already pretty sick of it from a young age bc i was basically getting called a whore, being harassed, & getting pressured by ppl within my society (luckily not my family) over me not wearing the hijab. when i was in my early teens, i faced rape & most ppl i had opened up to (most being close friends) either said it was my fault or called me a liar or basically minimised what my rapist did like it’s not a big deal to rape someone. again, was called a whore & harassed for that. then i had this one guy as a remaining friend & lucky me, happens to be a guy who had a crush on me for 4 years at this point & was persistent despite repeated rejection. eventually i felt bad and powerless bc rejecting him didn’t mean anything to him, he was arguing im “still his girlfriend” (when i said im not with him & do not want to be) and he said maybe to ME we rnt together but to him we r. anyways after putting up with that for a while, i ended it for the 50th time & he said “is it bc ur a lesbian” and i said yes. 6 months later he sends me flowers to my place in bahrain (his brother delivers it to me) & i was like wtf. so i had to end it again. and again. by that point i was pretty fed up honestly but eventually i got him to leave me alone bc he said like “stay pls maybe i can change your mind ;(“ and i said he cannot and then said if my mind changes ill hit him up. i already knew my mind wouldn’t be changed lol bc i tried not to be a lesbian for long enough to know it’s just not possible. but at least that somehow convinced him to leave me alone. but then when i was done w that situation & opened up about being a lesbian online, i got repeatedly hassled on whether id date a trans woman etc & about penises. i was a tra and was like no unm id totally date a trans woman but not with a penis bc im penis-repulsed. and ofc then i got hassled w messages like “isnt that terfy / transphobic” so at this point im like what the fuck. here’s where i started to peak. anyways like a year or two later i have my first gf right and she’s a massive TRA. im still leaning towards the TRA side but talking vocally about how sex exists & so does sex-based oppression & that lesbians are allowed not to like penis. anyways my then-gf pressures me into an open relationship & says it’s bc my body is like “too perfect” & it makes her insecure and she hates her body etc. she says that she was told that polyamory can help solve her body image issues & was convincing me of how it’d work. i was skeptical and not for having an open relationship but like how can u say no to someone u love telling u that ur the reason for their insecurities & that u can help them simply by letting them fuck other ppl??? so i was like okay fine. immediately my ex dates like 3 other ppl at once, 1 of them being a trans woman. i was against this n was like how’s this meant to help w ur body image issues … this person literally has a penis and a completely body from u… n my ex was tryna convince me that it does help somehow. anyways the trans woman wants desperately for us to become a throuple. writin detailed fantasies about me to my then-gf, made a Facebook profile set in bahrain with an arabic name with a hentai profile pic, etc. eventually my ex says “oh but i don’t think she’d be into that, she’s penis repulsed” and the tw goes all :( aw what a shame :( i hope she gets help for this :( and my ex agrees. my ex then tells me about this non-chalantly. im like erm ok… then a week later i text my ex and i say that the whole thing rly upset me. they both then proceed to gaslight me that im crazy & it’s not like that & im such a misandrist & i should be able to love trans women bc they’re women and what’s in their pants doesn’t matter. my ex switches between telling me that i should undergo some genital “exposure therapy” and telling me such therapies aren’t useful so it’s not like they want me to go there. i stand down eventually. probs peak trans there

last time i saw her was for literally a minute cause her bsf left their wallet at my house and we met up so i could return it

that was like,,, two weeks ago

she’s barely talked to me since. i initiated conversation and we talked a little but she was super dry so i have up. more recently, i was having a depression day and snapped her saying that and asking for dog pics. she responded almost a day later with four dog pics. that was ~3 days ago.

it’s just really shitty cause i have all these amazing memories of us and i thought we could’ve at least still been friends but now it’s nothing. i never know what’s going on in her head and i wish i knew why she won’t talk to me. i did accidentally piss her off but it was something small but i didn’t mean to, apologized and she said it was fine. the thing that pissed her off was usually a joke between us and i never intended to make her feel judged and i felt so bad. that was also like two weeks ago but we had that stilted conversation afterwards, as well as her sending dog pics.

i really just miss her so much. everytime i think of our time together in the last few months or any of our conversations, my heart hurts so much. i still love her. she’s admitted to being toxic in the past and i know she’s been toxic with me (all my friends don’t like her based on my ranting lol) but she’s also been the sweetest and most comforting presence to me. she understands me. my depression, my anxiety, addictive tendencies, girl issues.

this rly got away from me but yeah. i love her so much and i don’t think she wants anything to do with me anymore.

ok so uh. this is gonna be a longass post. no joke, I took reference pics of almost every single page of this chapter, but thanks to the 10-image limit...well. we'll see how this goes.

on the very first page, we have some context-changing translation discrepancies.

in Dark Horse, we've got:

WOLFWOOD: "I got a bad feeling...about these guys." (referring to the dudes he beat up when they tried to jump him as he walked into the church in the last chapter)

LEGATO: "How rude. How else do you expect to be treated when you suddenly trespass?"

meanwhile, the Overhaul has something much more informative, once again:

WOLFWOOD: "Who are these idiots? The Roderick slavers?"

LEGATO: "My apologies... I just needed to show late arrivals who they are dealing with."

then, on the next page, we see that Legato and Wolfwood haven't met before (which was something I was wondering about last chapter). they only recognize each other by physical descriptors (Wolfwood's cross, Legato's skull and torture device).

again, the Overhaul is more informative. and the panel right after this one...Vash looks so exhausted 🥺

there's also a difference in Dominique's last words to Vash a few pages later. Dark Horse has her saying, in reference to Legato "No one stands up to that man. Do you think he'd help me after I've failed?" meanwhile, the Overhaul has "If I can't be of service to him...then there is only one way this can turn out."

Vash passes out right as Dominique's falling, and my younger self always thought that was weird? but their fight was a LOT more taxing than it first appeared, at least to me. we see proof of this later in the chapter.

some little translation discrepancies here. Midvalley's line in Dark Horse always kinda confused me. ty, Overhaul, for clarifying so much! oh, and Legato's last line here - for some reason I always thought he was talking about Vash? but now I realize he's talking about KNIVES. that's not translation-induced confusion, tho - just me being A Silly Lil Guy again, I guess 🤪

oh, and I didn't point it out in the last chapter, but...there's something striking about there being a church right at the top of Jeneora Rock. I can't explain why. it's just...something that rly sticks out or seems important to me.

their plan for resurrecting Knives is. disturbing. to say the least. you've got the physical horror, which was what most struck me when I was a teenager...but what gets me now is the violation/exploitation/stripping of agency from another plant for personal gain/survival...of which humans are guilty...but this time, it's all in the name of The Big Bad Human-Hater. and so, right when we finally get to meet him in the flesh, the narrative shows how, Plant Shenanigans aside, Knives...really isn't all that different from the humans he so hates. he perpetuates the exact. same. shit. the cognitive dissonance, man... 😣

more Dark Horse-induced confusion the Overhaul's cleared up for me

then, at the bottom of the page, where Wolfwood's grousing, Dark Horse has him saying "Shit! What the hell was with all th' training?!" (another line that always confused me) whereas the Overhaul has "Shit! What the hell am I doin'?!"

and that leads me into the next thing I wanted to note: it's here that we see Wolfwood is a man stuck between a rock and a hard place. he gets frustrated with it, doesn't want to do it, but he fully believes he can't get out of it :(

I also want to note a difference between the manga and tristamp - manga Vash is able to sense Knives the moment he's resurrected, whereas tristamp Vash is only aware of Knives' presence when the diner piano starts playing (ep 3). it's an interesting difference!

but then, there's fking...

...this. immediately after Knives is reborn.

I didn't think anything of it as a teen. but now...initially, I was horrified, thinking "oh shit, oh fuck, what the hell is he doing to his 'mother' now" BUT. looking at it a second time, I think I get what the context is telling us. on the previous page, there's Knives WITH HIS 'MOTHER' UNDERFOOT. on the panel immediately below the one I've shown, there's an explosion. so. I think what's going on here is that Knives is using his plant abilities to bust out - which still isn't great, most likely killing his 'mother' in the process...but unfortunately, considering who this is, it tracks;;;;;;

so much more urgency comes through in the Overhaul's translation here - "...I NEED to face him. I have to END this!"

we also get a lot more out of the Overhaul on the next page, when Vash is talking about his memory loss. both translations start with Vash saying "Everything on the other side is blank..." but whereas Dark Horse has him continue with "Where there is no memory, I must go to fill in the void..." the Overhaul has "I lost all memory of what I've done. All that was left with me was a void and a memory of a mountain of rubble."

then, when Vash gets to Knives and points his gun at him...Knives' absolutely deranged reaction, which I found funny as a teen, now just. gives me the chills. as does how tristamp drew directly from this exchange for their meeting in that diner.

aaaaand we have some translation weirdness after Knives sees Vash's scars and is all "Vash y u no learn?!" Dark Horse then misattributes 2 speech bubbles in a panel with Vash, instead having Knives say:

KNIVES: "If you keep count, you've hurt so many more than you've killed. And compare that to all the destruction you've caused..."

KNIVES (next panel, speech bubbles are his): "So, shouldn't you...point that thing somewhere else?"

the Overhaul is, once again, a lot more clear here:

VASH (in reference to his scars): "They're nothing compared to the burden of death and destruction you've put on me! You're gonna pay for your sins, you monster!"

KNIVES: "Considering what you did with that right arm of yours...shouldn't you be pointing that gun somewhere else then?"

I believe that's what we call gaslighting? and the victim blaming Knives does over and over is... 😬

and then, right before it fires? for some reason, Dark Horse completely leaves out what Vash says/thinks immediately after Rem's name. before the Overhaul, I had no idea that this bit was a thing: "...we were no good...right from the start." 😭

i can confirm there were no bday tears yesterday!!!!! haha tho i definitely get bday emotions being very overwhelming bc i have def had that before. it's so much pressure put on one day and admittedly i was kinda bummed to see like which friends didn't wish me a happy bday despite seeing my ig stories abt it throughout the day, like esp if they were ppl i do actually see/talk to every now and then or ppl that i always wish a happy bday to. like at the end of the day it's rly not that deep but on the other hand you're kinda like...🤔 BUT i don't mean to sound ungrateful bc i legitimately had such an amazing bday weekend and am SO grateful!!!! i got so many well wishes from friends both irl and online (bitch pack!!!!!! ily all forever) and i truly felt so loved and special 🥹🫶🏼
