Barr has written at least one book about a wlw relationship and 2. for a while she lives with her lesbian friend and is like oh :( I’m so sad eventually she’ll find a gf and I’ll have to stop living with her :( if only I were gay and also her type so we could keep living together :( like... ma’am.), and she’s so much fun. anon, i'm super flattered that you respect my opinion because i have said some stupid shit on here, but we're all learning and growing so it is what it is lmao. currently i do think she and joe are together (and i think they're quite cute but i try to keep my toeposting to a minimum on here in solidarity with my gaylor besties lksdjfjshfsd) and that a lot--if not all--of her relationships with men probably were real. there's just a certain amount of pain you can't fake, and midnights has really recontextualized her past relationships and the way she's approached love in general for me to feel much more realistic to her. i do think she's queer though (as does every single other young queer woman my age btw. like taylor being bi is just as much a part of the wlw pop culture canon and discussion as jojo siwa's shenanigans rn and i am living for it lmaooo) and i don't think there's anything wrong with that as long as you're respectful about it. girlypop writes gay ass songs including the ones about men. like i feel like the way queer women love men is also queer and she hardcore gives those vibes to me. as for how she feels about it, i honestly have no idea? lover era was definitely...um. that. so it's not like she's entirely in denial lmao. but accepting and feeling comfortable in your sexuality is a process and a journey, and one that i'm sure she is still very much on (as am i, despite having the best-case-scenario in terms of coming out/support/etc!). it just seems like she has a lot of relationship and religious trauma to work through and i'm sure sexuality is all baked into it. and with the way her last alleged relationship (whether it was defined as such or not, likely the latter but who knows) with a woman ended, it probably fucked her up a ton. but i don't know her so i could be way off with this! my biggest regrets and missteps in the past all seem to stem from running with huge assumptions about her life and personal character/struggles, so i feel like i'm pretty content in this nebulous space of not really knowing anything. but that's just where i'm at with it rn. all is subject to change <3

Thanks for the questions anon. I think I'd recommend that your gaylor curious fan checks out some of the episodes on the 'What I Will Say' podcast. I don't actually agree with her approach (she puts a lot of weight on song lyrics and social media interaction), but it's pretty thorough introduction.

Here are my not very informed thoughts:

I don't know if Taylor is gay, but I don't think she's straight.

I think Taylor and Karlie Kloss probably hooked up. But I don't think they've been together for a long time. I also think that one of Taylor's problems is that the women she hooks up with chose the worst men in the world over her.

As I've said before, I'm very much just into vibes and good stories when it comes to Taylor. We don't know what's going on with celebrities it's all guess work and to talk about proofs and patterns is to put a lot of weight on it.

The fact that so many of her public relationships are incredibly fake and with closeted men is definitely a large part of it. I also think she engages with queer themes in her art. And bigger than any individual piece, I think there's this real thread of compulsory heterosexuality in her early work - of making herself be who she's supposed to be. And the way that gave way to more explicitly wlw themes feels very resonant to me.

I don't really think she and Joe are together (I have previously said that London Boy is proof that they're not). But the whole situation with the grammys and the credits is pretty weird whatever is going on. So I suspect it's much more complicated than I could imagine.

i went to a new dr today and was terrified for at least 5 reasons but the doctor explained everything he was doing and why so i wouldn’t be as worried/scared, which kept me from having a panic attack

today i saw an elderly man bring his wife into a salon to get her hair and nails done. she thought he was going to leave and come back to pick her up when she was done, but he said he wanted to help her pick out a color for her nails

yesterday at a traffic light i noticed someone singing and dancing in their car to the music they were listening to

yesterday my neighbor was singing at the top of his lungs to the music he was listening to in his own apartment, and he sounded so happy and carefree

yesterday someone walked past my apartment window and they were doing a little dance to whatever song they were listening to

two days ago the cashier at a gas station asked me how i was doing and when i said i was good, he wished me a “better night” bc he said he knew i was sad

two days ago i saw a wlw couple walking downtown holding hands, completely in each other’s space as they laughed and talked

two days ago at the store two young siblings were arguing about who made the best brand of microwave popcorn bc they “needed the best” for their movie night

three days ago a stranger walking by saw my dog and instantly aww’ed and stopped to ask if he could pet my dog

i just,,,there is a lot of bad going on this world- more than i can probably imagine- but there’s also a lot of beauty in it too. it’s little moments like these that remind me how beautiful life can be

Omg thanks @umas-plan for tagging me to list my top 5-10 Descendants songs!! It’s a tough call—as a movie D3 was a disappointment but the soundtrack lowkey said “oops all bangers.” These aren’t necessarily in order, because with Descendants songs I tend to be either like “hard no” (‘Be Our Guest’ rap. Every time I remember it exists a small piece of me dies), “eh alright” (‘Set It Off’), or “ABSOLUTE BANGER 10/10” (more to follow). Ranked song titles are bolded for tl;dr skimming. Alright here we go:

1. Definitely ‘Ways to be Wicked.’ I bought this song before I ever watched a Descendants movie after stumbling upon the clip on youtube & it is still a banger. It was a combination of that and the clip of Mal turning into a dragon that made me say “yoooo what is this” and buy a D1/D2 dvd pack on my next trip to Target (no cable or Disney+ 😬). Incredible song, Iconic, 10/10

2. You KNEW ‘Chillin’ Like a Villain’ had to be on here. Come on. This song had no right to go as hard as it does with that cheesy title, and yet. Also Ben’s little segment is the cutest thing I’ve ever heard he’s so excited and pure I love him so much (I know his character has problems that the canon overlooks but I do just really love how sweet he’s supposed to be and he is he’s so cute what a good boy)

3. ‘You And Me’ this song is so dorky and naiive but damn if it doesn’t make my heart swell with hope and good feelings. Also the dancing in the water is just really cute and I love it. My favorite ending song by a slight slight margin over ‘Break This Down’ which is also definitely a certified banger and it’s the one I WILL dance along with when if plays, but ‘You And Me’ is the more likely of the two to give me Sappy Emotions. ‘Set it Off’ is not even comparable to these two imo it’s cute but nowhere NEAR the same level of Good Song

4. ‘Queen of Mean’ —Talented, Showstopping, Incredible. Absolute Banger. You have no choice but to sing along. I’m a Mal simp (I know that’s an unpopular opinion to have on here, I’m sorry, I am Not Immune to purple Dove Cameron), so I am not particularly predisposed to actively root for Audrey, but even I cannot deny how hard this song goes

5. ‘Evil (From Descendants: Wicked World)’. Dove Cameron is hot, and her voice is hot. That’s it, that’s the reason. I relate to Ben in that I too would break the law in order to please edgy fae Dove Cameron. I have no defense for this

6. ‘Did I Mention (Reprise)’ from D3. This is the only fictional proposal that’s ever actually made me feel something. Yes, I am trash, I ship Bal despite recognizing the problems (you ever try writing Bal fic that does NOT start with Mal spelling Ben? It’s hard. On multiple meta levels, their relationship does not make sense. And YET, I do ship it. Again, no defense, it’s cute, the simple dichotomy of surfacy good and evil & Mal trying to be good just because Ben is nice to her and it makes her happy...I am Not Immune to them being cute in canon. Honestly the books give me more faith in this ship than the films, tho). This one is interesting bc I don’t even particularly like ‘Did I Mention’ from D1 lmao

7. ‘Space Between’ whether it’s the wlw Love Song of the century or simply the purest best friends song of all time, this is a banger. How could they not have noticed that they accidentally gave their big romantic duet to one of the romantic leads and her bff instead of the dude she’s dating tho, come on. The song that fills the sails of the Malvie ship (along with, y’know...everything else [recalls every Malvie interaction in D3])

8. ‘Good to Be Bad’ and ‘Rotten to the Core’ are pretty much equal to me. Both bangers, both very fun to sing & dance along with. On a meta level, objectively funny how blatantly these two opening numbers are ripping off whatever music was popular at the time to Appeal To The Youth™️. Diagetically ‘Rotten to the Core’ wins bc I just cannot agree with the concept of “VK Day” but that’s back to the matter of D3 having great songs and very little else going for it

9. ‘Night Falls.’ Clearly, we love a group number. I’m a Mal simp (D3 Mal is Worst Mal but also Mal is Mal) & I recognize that Uma is the strongest and most underutilized character in the franchise, so it’s always fun to have them both in the same place, even when it’s just them being petty at each other. D3 Evie is too good for this world, too pure. A few of the lyrics in this one give me mild secondhand embarassment for Bad Writing but this is the Descendants fandom and I would not be here if I lacked the ability to Embrace The Cringe

10. ‘If Only’—little baby Mal having feelings, allowing herself to seriously consider having feelings for maybe the first time. Don’t touch me, I’m emotional

Honorable Mentions (beyond all the ones I’ve already slipped in here, bc I love talking about Descendants and I lack self-control): ‘What’s My Name’ is obviously a banger; I like ‘My Once Upon A Time’ a lot on its own, but it just. Makes absolutely zero sense in context. Tonally inconsistent with what’s happening in the movie around it; ‘One Kiss’ is straight up just a good song, we all know Sofia Carson is a great singer, if I ever make the mistake of listening to my Descendants playlist in a public gym I Will make a fool of myself bc I have no choice but to pantomime singing along with this one.

But if you ignore/change the pronouns to fit the story, it is about a girl (Juliet) who wants to be with her girlfriend (Romeo), but her dad is homophobic and doesn’t let Romeo near her.  She wants her girl to come and save her from her homophobic family/ town. and this lyric just fits too well “Romeo save me, they’re trying to tell me how to feel, this love is difficult but it’s real, don’t be afraid we’ll make it out of this mess, it’s a love story baby just say yes”

this could be about two girls who started off as friends until one night they realise they have feelings for each other and after that night everything changes

And then in the bridge the lyrics are “remember when you couldn’t take the heat, I walked out, I said I’m setting you free, but the monsters turned out to be just trees, when the sun came up you were looking at me.” This means she freaked out and almost left the relationship because of the pressure in coming out but in the end coming out wasn’t as scary as they imagined it to be or they were strong enough to handle the woods anyway. Also in the first verse when she says “you took a polaroid of us and then discovered the rest of the world was in black and white but we were in screaming colour” black and white is straight and screaming colour is gay

so this song is about Taylor’s feelings moving to New York, a city that embraces freedom, and well the second verse literally sums it up “everybody here wanted something more and you can want who you want, boys and boys and girls and girls”
