You know what time it is! It's physco analyzing owl house characters time >:) tw for discussions of mental illness, trauma, etc. And spoiler warning for s3!

Part 1: Hunter (he's my favorite ok)

Something I love about the owl house is its various depictions of ptsd- pretty much all of the characters have gone through multiple traumatic events but were all affected individually and differently, just like how real people would. It's also pretty obvious that the level of trauma is dependent on how much support the characters had from other people in their lives.

The most obvious example would be Hunter, who has had no support until meeting the hexsquad- he's seen in the show displaying blatant symptoms of c-ptsd from years of abuse and neglect. He's been not only subjected to grueling training and manipulation but also extreme isolation which, speaking from personal experience, is very damaging.

He's also a cult survivor which I think the show has handled very well- everything from the paranoia and panic attacks about running away to the subconscious self-righteousness that the emperor's coven instilled in him (evidenced in things like "I was in the *emperor's coven*. I can handle a little pain 😌". He learned a lot of untrue things about the world while in the coven and is seen having to work to consciously deconstruct those ideas and learn the truth, just like a real cult survivor would.

It's also clear he was gaslighted by the way he talks to others in thanks to them, by ending a lot of things he says with "It's not in my head" or "you believe me right?". I think Hunter would very likely have DID and I see a lot of traits in him (such as the golden guard persona he seems to have), though I sadly don't think that will ever be canon. I would love to see more good rep for DID as part of a system myself though.

He also has a lot of autistic traits though I go back and forth a lot on wether or not I think he's actually autistic. He clearly has trouble making friends and understanding social cues but thats a natural effect of being isolated for a long time so it's unclear if that's from the c-ptsd or possibly autism. He's very passionate about his interests and loves to learn and talk about them but his interests are also pretty widespread and diverse. It's still not gonna stop me from projecting my autism onto him though >:)

i suppose it does seem that way, i criticize him in some ways i do c!dream

there are some unforgiving things he's done in my eyes due to personal experiences and my own hand of trauma, both trauma he affects and he has

so i have a very blunt and harsh opinion of him :p

not in a totally negative way ofc, he's wonderfully written the way he is and i adore his characterization

a lot of people sympathize softlywith his character and i think thats why a lot of people dont analyze him as harshly as i do so to say?

a lot of people see it in his perspective and that its clear that hes just lonely and desperate and NEEDS communication and therapy

the way i analyze him is while being aware of that, i focus on how it affects other people, i.e. ranboo and tommy, and how his actions in the past affect the now gravely

it's all about how being mentally ill doesn't only fuck yourself over but other people around you too :p

Juke/Maddison & Charlie

So I just want to address something about Juke and then I’m literally not going to talk about it again, because I’ve seen a few posts about people shipping the actors and then people hating on the ship a little bit because of the age gap and it’s just been frustrating me so I wan’t to kinda get this out and then just get back to enjoying the show. Also Apologies if this upsets anyone but these are my opinions and you in no way have to agree with them I just ask that you read my thoughts fully before passing judgment and to please be respectful.

Here is what I think it is ok to do:

Shipping Luke and Julie together. Why? Because in the show they are both teenagers (16/17). I saw someone say it was kinda gross because the boys should be like 42? which I think is a little ridiculous because if they had lived sure they would have been 42 or w.e. but they didn’t... they died, and it is  canon that to them no time has passed. What this means is that the boys are still mentally, emotionally and physically 17 years old. For this reason the characters are perfectly capable of being together and their biggest obstacle remains Luke being a ghost lol. 

Here is what I think it is NOT ok to do: 

Shipping Maddison and Charlie together in real life. Now I’m going to break down for you why this is gross and not ok and why saying “when she’s 18 he can date her” is also not ok. 

A 16 year old and a 22 year old have two completely different maturity levels. A 16 year old can be mature absolutely but that doesn’t mean that they are at the  same maturity level as a 22 year old. I’m 26 and I can tell you that my maturity changed DRASTICALLY between the ages of 16-24. I use to think I was very mature when I was 16. When I hit 22 and looked back at who I was I realized that I was not nearly as mature as I believed I was and now at 26 I can clearly see the differences in who I was as a person at these ages. I can guarantee that most people (if they’re self aware enough) would agree that their maturity level was completely different as a teenager then it was once they hit their twenties. A lot of this has to do with the simple fact that in your 20′s you’ve typically gained more life experience through jobs, and relationships and higher education your brain has also developed more. Now. Maddison is definitely mature for her age in no way am I claiming she isn’t however it is still very obvious through different interviews and lives I’ve seen of her and of Charlie that they are not at the same level. Mentally, emotionally, physically.They definitely have more of a brother/sister friendship. It’s clear that they care about each other and they can of course get a long as friends but friendship and an intimate relationship are two completely different things. Maddison and Charlie’s maturity’s work fine as a friendship but if you were to factor in intimacy and romance it quickly becomes problematic. Some people might still think that the maturity levels don’t matter. I’m here to tell you it does. 

While I don’t think that Charlie would be the type of guy to ever pressure a girl he is with, that doesn’t mean that the pressure would not still exist. If they were to hypothetically date Maddison could easily feel pressured into participating in things she might not really feel ready for like certain intimate acts, parties ect because she want’s to please her partner or because she might feel like this is what she SHOULD be doing rather then doing what she is emotionally and mentally ready for. That pressure can easily influence someone of a young age who hasn’t had many experiences into doing things they eventually regret or doing things that end up having a negative impact on their mental health and the way they view themselves or even how they view healthy/unhealthy relationships down the line. Now Maddison seems smart and has a good support system but your support system can’t protect you 24/7 in an intimate relationship no matter how hard they try which is why a lot of teenagers end up going through something that they end up wishing they hadn’t done because they didn’t know any better. To also say that he can just “wait” for her to turn 18 is just predatory and gross and suggests that it’s still ok to pursue someone of a young age so long as you wait till they are legal which it is not that still means you wanted to be with a minor even if you wait till they are 18.

Also it is important to note that an actors personal life is NONE of your business. An Actors job is to perform in the show/play/movie that they have been hired to perform in and to then promote that project. That’s it. That is all they owe you and anything else is entirely up to their discretion. You are not owed information about their personal lives and you are not owed a say in who they date. If you like two actors who are dating and you think they are cute that’s fine, if they are sharing their relationship and you want to support it that is fine but you have to understand boundaries. I’ve seen fans overstep in a LOT of fandoms (one example being Lili and Cole from Riverdale) where they attack other people for being close to the people in the relationship or they bother the actors to update them about their relationship ect. It’s disrespectful and it’s honestly not your place regardless of if they have shared information about a relationship previously. It’s also not cool to try to pressure the actors into dating, you don’t know what they are actually like irl you have no idea if they are actually compatible you do not have a full picture of the situation and for that reason your opinion should be kept to yourself.

Finally I want to address the whole Luke & Julie kissing issue because I totally understand why people are a little uncertain about it due to the age gap. Now normally I’d be a little put off by it but I am actually ok with the idea of Luke and Julie kissing on screen and I’m just going to list off quickly below why I think it’s ok and why I wouldn’t get upset if it happened.

1. It is very clear that Maddison’s family (specifically her dad) are very involved with Maddison and her job on JATP. Mr.Reyes is often shown on set with her at rehearsals and during shooting. He was there when they practiced the perfect harmony dance which I personally thought was kinda intimate. I feel better about it because I know she has a strong support system who will be there to ensure that if a kiss DID happen she would be safe because she has her family looking out for her on set.

2. Much like above both Kenny and Charlie are very respectful people who very clearly have a lot of respect and love for Maddison. I also don’t think they would ever put Maddison into a position she was uncomfortable with. If a kiss DID happen I am sure there will be a lot of conversations about it and it would be done in a respectful healthy way.

3. This is a job. They are not kissing because they like each other in real life they are not pursuing anything romantically. They are performing a job that they are being paid for in front of a group of people also performing a job. This for me helps me feel less gross about it because even though they are actually kissing it’s not a ‘real’ romantic kiss. It’ll be a staged one that they have gone over and discussed at length with Kenny.

4. This is a Kenny Ortega project. The show has very clearly established that the relationships are about more than physical intimacy. IF we get a kiss between Julie and Luke we are not going to get more then a PG rated kiss.. hell probably more of a G rated kiss. Not only because this is a project by Kenny but because the actors are different ages. It is also unlikely that we will get more then one maybe two kisses a season. I personally don’t think they’re going to make them kiss in season two I think it might happen if we get season 3 but I would still be ok with a season 2 kiss because again it will probably be very simple and very respectful especially cause it’ll also probably be Julie’s 1st kiss. If they were to have them  make out or something that would be when I would  feel uncomfortable, but that just doesn’t seem like Kenny’s vibe. He’s worked with a lot of young actors and it’s not like they’re going to french kiss or something. Kissing is intimate of course but a small closed mouth kiss is honestly pretty innocent in my opinion especially if done correctly. So it doesn’t bother me much.

5. Finally by the time they get around to filming a season 2 or 3 Maddison will also be a bit older (17 or 18) hopefully so she will also be at an age where it will feel more comfortable for her.

So in conclusion: shipping Juke good, shipping Maddy & Charlie bad and wanting Juke to kiss is acceptable so long as they do it appropriately which from what I’ve seen of the cast and the crew I believe they would. I personally have a lot of faith in the creators of this show it’s clearly a very healthy supportive environment and I trust that they know what they are doing. 

Again these are my personal opinions but I felt like some people weren’t really looking at it from a completely logical standpoint but more of an emotional one which is understandable because its a very serious subject matter and it could very well also be a trigger for many people who’ve gone through something similar. I just needed to get all that off my chest cause this kind of thing can breed negativity in fandoms and thats why I don’t participate in them anymore. and listen if this was a different show with a different cast and crew and creator and they had a 16 year old and a 22 year old kissing I would probably find it more unsettling but I think one of the reasons why we all love this show so much is BECAUSE it is so healthy and because the cast are so involved and vocal about the show. I have no doubt in my mind that Maddison would have the space to speak up if she was uncomfortable and I have no doubt in my mind that Kenny and her family would make sure she was safe.

So anyways thanks for coming to my ted talk and please if you disagree that’s totally ok just don’t be hateful, I’m happy to have discussions but I won’t tolerate rudeness cause at the end of the day it’s a show and it’s out of our hands and I’m not saying you have to agree with me. This is just how I feel about these issues.

this was written several weeks ago in response to asks i was receiving i am posting it now it is very long the longest i have ever made and it is not very well edited but here it is in this final essay i talk about how shitty rae is about black people in her writing as well as just me talking about how her writing sucks in general lets begin

hello everyone 

as you may know i have received a lot of anons in the last week or so about issues of racism in the beetlejuice community both just generally speaking and also within specific spaces 

i was very frustrated to not be getting the answers i wanted because i typically do not talk about what i do not see but in an effort to be better about discourse i went looking through discourse from before my time in the fandom and i also received some receipts and information from my followers and from some friends

keep in mind that the voices and thoughts of bipoc are not only incredibly important at all times but in this circumstance it is important that if a bipoc has something to add you listen and learn and be better

i admit that when this happened i wasnt aware of the extent of what occurred and im angry at myself for not doing more at that time and i want to work harder to make sure something like this doesnt go unnoticed again

im a hesitant to talk about months old discourse because i have been criticized for bringing up quote old new unquote but this is very important and i am willing to face whatever comes from to me

lets talk about this

lets fucking unpack this folks

right out the gate op states that she supports artistic freedom but then within a couple words she goes against that statement

being entirely canon compliant isnt artistic freedom and even so if this person has so much respect for canon they wouldnt be out here erasing lydias obvious disgust for beetlejuice in the movie or ignoring lydias age for the sake of shipping that shit isnt canon either 

also we love the quick jab at the musical there hilarious we love it dont we because god forbid a licensed and successful branch on a media have any standing in this conversation but whatever

now lets scroll down and talk about the term racebending

the term racebending was coined around 2009 in response to the avatar the last airbender movie a film in which the east asian races of the characters were erased by casting white actors in the three leading roles of aang sokka and katara 

whenever the term racebending is used in a negative light it is almost always a case of whitewashing like casting scarlett johansen in ghost in the shell or the casting of white actors of the prince of persia sands of time instead of iranian ones

this kind of racebending erases minorities from beeing seen in media and is wrong

all that being said however racebending has also been noted to have very positive after effects like the 1997 adaptation of cinderella or casting samuel jackson as nick fury in the marvel movies nick fury was originally a white guy can you even imagine

i read this piece from an academic that said quote writers can change the race and cultural specificity of central characters or pull a secondary character of color from the margins transforming them into the central protagonist unquote

racebending like the kind that rae is so heated about is the kind of creative freedom that leads to more representation of bipoc in media which will never be a bad thing ever no matter how pissy you get about it

designing a version of a character as a poc isnt serving to make them necessarily better it serves to give new perspective and perhaps the opportunity to connect even more deeply with a character it doesnt marginalize or erase white people it can uplift poc and if you think uplifting poc is wrong because it tears down white people or whatever youre a fucking moron and you need to get out of your podunk white folk town and see the real world

the numbers of times a bipoc particularly a bipoc that is also lgbt+ has been represented in media are dwarfed by what i as a white dude have seen myself represented in media is and that isnt okay that isnt equality and its something that should change not only in mainstream media but in fandom spaces as well

lets move down a bit further to the part about bullying straight people which is hilarious and lets also talk about the term fetishistic as well lets start with that

this person literally writes explicit pornography of a minor and an adult are we really going to let someone like that dictate what is and what isnt fetishistic

similarly to doing a positive racebend situation people may project lgbt+ headcanons on a character because its part of who they are and it helps them feel closer to the character and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that

depicting lgbt+ subject matter on existing characters isnt an inherently fetishistic action generally things only really become fetishistic when the media is being crafted and hyped by people who are outside of lgbt+ community for example how young teens used to flip a tit about yaoi or how chasers fetishize trans people

but drawing a character with top surgery scars or headcanoning them as trans is harmless and its just another way to interpret a character literally anone could be trans unless if their character bio says theyre cis and most of them dont go that deep so it really is open to interpretation and on the whole most creators encourage this sort of exploration because it is a good thing to get healthy representation out in the world

as for it being used to bully straights thats just funny i dont have anything else on that like if youre straight and you feel threatened and bullied because of someone headcanoning someone as anything that isnt cishet youre a fucking idiot and a weak baby idiot at that like the real world must fucking suck for you because lgbt+ people are everywhere and statistically a big chunk of your favorite characters arent cishet sorry be mad about it

lets roll down a bit further about the big meat of the issue which was when several artists were drawing interpretations of lydia as a black girl which i loved but clearly this person didnt love it because they have a very narrow and very racist and problematic view of what it means to be a black person

and before i move forward i must reiderate that i am a white person and you should listen to the thoughts of poc people like @fright-of-their-lives​ or @gender-chaotic it is not my place to explain what the black experience is like and it certainly isnt this persons either

implying that the story of a black person isnt worth telling unless if the character faces struggles like racism and prejudice is downright moronic 

why use the word kissable to describe a black persons lips now thats what i call fetishistic and its to another extreme if youre talking about a black version of lydia on top of that

the author of this post says herself that shes white so clearly shes the person whos an authority on the black experience and what it means to be a black person right am i reading that right or am i having a fucking conniption

how about allowing black characters to exist without having to struggle why cant a black version of lydia just be a goth teenager with a ghost problem who likes photography and is also black like she doesnt have to move to a hick town and get abused by racist folks she doesnt have to go through any more shit than she already goes through and if you honestly think thats the only way to tell a black persons story you need to get your brain cleaned

you know nothing about the complexities about being a black person and i dont either but you know wh odo black people who are doing black versions of canon characters they fucking know 

lets squiggle down just a bit further 

so the writer has issues with giving characters traits like a broad nose or larger lips if theyre a woman but if theyre a man suddenly its totally okay to go all ryan murphy ahs coven papa legba appropriation when approaching character design like are you fucking stupid do you hear yourself is that really how you see black men like what the fuck is wrong with you

none of the shit youre spewing takes bravery it takes ignorance and supreme levels of stupidity

do you really think you with your fic where a black lgbt+ woman is tortured and abused where you use the n word with a hard r to refer to her like that shits not okay its fucking depraved and yeah we know you love being shitty but like christ on a bike thats so much

what the fuck is this fetishistic bull roar garbage calling this black character beyonce dressing her up in quote fuck me heels unquote are you are you seriously gonna write this and say its a shining example of how to write a black character youre basically saying ope here she is shes a sex icon haha im so progressive and i clealry understand the black experience hahahaha fuck you oh my god

on top of that theres a point where this character is only referred to as curly hair or the fact that the n word is used in the fic with the hard r like thats hands down not okay for you to use especially not in a manner like this jesus christ

the writing doesnt even read like beetlejuice fanfic it reads as self indulgent fiction you could easily change the names and its just a bad fanfic from 2007

also can we talk about writing the lesbian character as an angry man hater like its 2020 dude and als olets touch on that girl on girl pandering while beetlejuice is just there like here we go fetishizing again wee

dfgdfg i have..... a petermart story that dealt with the different flavor of loneliness they both had, half smut half genuine meta of both of them and theorization on the branching of an Entity & how their powers manifested in other people...

basically, peter thinks hes hot shit when it comes to loneliness but gets overwhelmed when martin accidentally projects his feelings abt *fic's plot stuff* on him, its fun stuff!

Canonically speaking him and martin! The pull and push of them was The best thing about season 4! Peter being a quite dangerous avatar and martin, beautiful and scared and kinda feisty, confronting him every chance he gets, peter doing his best to manipulate him and martin letting him believe hes succeeding (even thought, he is, partly). They're fascinating characters to have side by side

listen, listen, i know it sounds like im woobifying her i Know it but reading the scraps of her story how can i Not feel sorry for her? when the story framed her very similar to jon? the supernatural childhood encounter that gave them arachnophobia and the subsequential joining with an Entity against her will? the fact that both the story and the fans treat her like a spider woman always sat very very bad to me, and the fact that the story itself always framed her like a villain (considering All The Other Characters that get the benefit of the doubt) was extremely disappointing

Reasons to watch the untamed?

ok let me see if i’m ready for this.and if you’re ready for this. 

first of all:

here are some trigger warnings for the drama (you can tell me more). and you can watch this drama on youtube (it has subtitles for different languages) or on your netflix,if they have it in your country! 

LET’S HAVE A LOOK. (sorry if i have any mistakes, this took a long time and it’s late lmao)

the gays: not gonna lie. this is the thing that caught my attention. before you ask, it’s NOT on screen, even if the source is canonically gay (aka, the two main characters are in a relationship) but they can’t do that because it’s on China, and the laws are homophobic. But even with the censorship breathing in their necks, the romance of their relationship is on screen. If they added a kiss in the end, nobody can say that “that didn’t make sense” because the whole relationship. dialogue, symbolism, parallelism….that’s. without words. thats romance. that hits you in the face even if you don’t want to see it. they can’t have some of the romantic scenes in the book but they added romantic scenes in the drama….i can’t with them. with or without the laws allowing them, the story TELLS YOU that they are soulmates. anyways, i have some issues with the actual source of this material (the book) as a queer person, but i didn’t find anything bad in the drama. and the female characters have a better presence in the drama than in the book. which…thank you so much. i can’t not explain a lot of this because i haven’t finished the book yet, but if there’s anyone willing to comment, please do. 

the plot: you know the idea that if ur gay ur gonna watch whatever because there’s gays on it? well, you know that that’s not how thinks should work, because we all watched some trash over the years only for the gays. this, thankfully, is not the case. this is a GOOD fantasy story. it’s an amazing world building, with heartbreaking arcs and so many interesting developments. moral codes, rules of society, justice, ties between people & revenge, all in 50 episodes. the idea of “what’s wrong? what’s right?” really sells the story. i cried, i hated, i loved, i was confused over my own feelings, i was shocked….i can talk with friends SO many things about this show and never get tired, even without talking about the romantic bond. 

good characters: i can not really get into this without giving spoilers, but i can say that i could do ESSAYS for MANY characters of this drama. each character touches different aspects of humanity and even if i hate some of them, i’m in love with how they are potrayed and their developments. they are flawed, they are all different, they can not be analyzed in only one way and maybe that’s why im so fascinated with how deep they are. 

sibling bonding: THIS POINT HAS ME SCREAMING EVERY TIME. honestly, this is my weakness. There’s so many sibling relationships in this drama that represent very different ways to be siblings, all of them complex, real and beautifully made. as someone with siblings that i would give my life for, this part really speaks to me and makes me wanna cry every time. And something that caughts my attention is thats one of the first things that everyone wants to talk about when they watch the untamed, because its THAT good. 

places & costumes: the places, the cinematography, the colors, the aesthetic and the costumes of each character are SO beautiful. sometimes i got distracted by the scenary because it’s just amazing. the buildings, the cities, the nature and how they are used to give different reactions on the viewer? ugh. so good. 

the soundtrack: OH you thought that these bitches are fighting with instruments and they wouldn’t have a soundtrack??? ur wrong. a lot of the characters have One song representing their struggles and relationships. Let me tell you: you WILL cry, because they’re beautiful and the lyrics are very touching. But also, watch it after you end the drama if you want, because they can be spoilery.

my attention span: so. i started this drama when i was in a very bad mental place, and i wasn’t enjoying anything in my life at that point and part of that is that i couldn’t pay attention to anything, because nothing grabbed my attention. but this worked! it really helped me to distracted myself from things and take my mind somewhere else. so, you can try it as well. if you have a similar experience, place share it!

the team: i just. have such a big love for everyone who make this possible? you know when you consume something and witht the time, you realize things and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth? that didn’t happend with this one. everything that came out from the team, or the cast itself, was only wonderful to hear. they actually cared for this project and everyone is so in love with it, everyone cares so much about their work. they made this work even with homophobic censorship, and told an amazing story.it’s obvious, listening to the main cast that they KNOW that this is a story involving a gay relationship and they had that in mind when they acted and speak afterwards (and yes, specifically the actors of those characters)  i can not thank them enough, especially knowing on the risks that they took for this.

spider verse coffee shop au??

Anon im sorry i wanted to draw the coffeeshop au but ive been so tired lately so imma just overshare about what goes down bc this au is just (thick tombstone voice) : “everybody’s traumatized bitch lets get you a latte”

 • this au is incredibly villain centric bc uhhhhh all i do is think about villains

 • its also very aaron davis centric bc time to project my anxiety onto a grown ass man babey!!

 • anyway this takes place in a normal world where there’s no superheros or avengers or what have you, everyone’s super average 

• like i said this is more or less aaron centric and focuses on him readjusting to society and making connections with other people, and just healing in general. Aaron’s whole deal is that he was wrongfully arrested for defending himself against an off duty cop who was harassing him and ended up with a 10 year sentence  (but was let off a year earlier for good behaviour). He’s got a lot of guilt bc of this if only for the fact that he feels like he let down his brother and Miles (who was a small lad at the time).

 • Fun Fact! Jefferson was the one that picked up Aaron at the jail when he served out his sentence! The ride back to brooklyn was awkward! but also jefferson loves his brother and even tho they’ve had their falling outs he never once stopped believing that his brother was innocent. Jefferson also made sure to pull some strings and ended up getting an apartment set up for Aaron (even though jefferson and rio were 100% down to open their home to him for as long as it took him to get back onto his feet but of course aaron denied them bc he didnt want to be a burden) Aaron’s grateful but he tends to avoid his own family…a lot….

• it’s ridiculously hard to find a job bc nobody wants to hire an ex convict no matter the circumstances and Aaron’s legitimately about to lose hope when he spots an expensive looking shop nestled in between an old arcade and a knick knack shop

 • ‘Vanessa’s Cafe’ is neatly printed above the door in fancy gold lettering. it’s obvious that the owner has serious cash bc the shop looks too damn good and too well maintained to be a regular mom and pop shop. there’s a help wanted sign hastily scribbled on a piece of notebook paper in the middle of the window which is odd since it off sets the professional vibe of the place. But hey it’s worth a shot so Aaron walks in ready to be denied another job only to find the weirdest looking group of people he’s ever seen.

 • The first guy that catches his attention is the very large albino man who looks way too stressed out and manic to be working in a coffeeshop, but the job must pay well because he’s very well dressed.

 • “Liv, for fuck’s sake! Clean your goddamn station!” he’s whisper shouting? Is that even a thing? oh look at that he’s got a full set of razor sharp teeth. huh. that’s a hell of an aesthetic he’s going for.

 • The lady in question isn’t even giving him the time of day, just enthralled by her phone with a smile that looks too peaceful given what’s happening around her. She’s got wild hair tied up messily in a knitted bandana, weird glasses (custom made??) and when she glances up at aaron, her eyes widen in interest like he’s some anomaly to be cracked open. aaron looks anywhere that isnt the wild eyed lady at the counter.

• Theres another big guy that’s hanging around the back, heavily tattooed and lifting stacks of heavy boxes. Aaron takes notice of his prosthetic hand and the tattoo guy takes notice of Aaron. 

• “Lonnie. Customer.” The Tattoo guy seems nonplussed about Aaron and walks into the back. aaron assumes that he’s offended him by staring at his prosthetic for longer than necessary which yeah….yeah he’s probably not happy about the staring. 

 • lonnie’s got a bad case of resting bitch face so he’s glaring at aaron without actually glaring and he’s just rough around ALL the edges so his tones got that nice bite to it as he shouts from across the counter (which is not something you do to a customer but it’s lonnie…..)  "Hey! Ya looking for a job, skinny jeans?!“

 • Aaron blanches at the idea of working with these people but he is absolutely desperate for a job at this point.

 •"Yeah. I just got out of-”

 •"Great, you’re hired! We’re speed running this whole introduction thing, string bean.“

 •and that’s all i got other than like small details like:

 •Peter B Parker owns a ”“’'cafe”“” across from Vanessa’s and its literally just a burger joint that h a p p e n s to sell coffee and Parker will fight you if you call his place a deli ahdhdj

 •Liv and May are dating (big shock) and peter b has to constantly deal with seeing his competition over at his place all the time and it’s yikes

 • Tombstone and Noir will 100% throw hands on contact. They don’t hate each other tho??? Its weird they just like to fight. gives them a chance to work on their banter i guess. Noir works the coffee machine at Peter’s “'cafe”’ so i guess he’s the “”barista”” of the joint but he drinks the coffee more than the customers do

 • Miles and the rest of the spider kids “”“”“"intern”“”“” at the cafe which basically translates to free labor

 •  spider ham works there but he isnt a pig he’s just john mulaney. i know its weird. nobody actually sees him tho so he’s a complete mystery as to what he looks like so he could be john mulaney you never know. the only person who’s seen him is noir and that’s only bc they’re  a thing???

 •oh speaking of everyone being gay:  everyone’s gay

 • Lonnie and Gargan (tombstone and scorpion) are 100% dating but everyone legitimately thinks that the both of them are straight old men despite the fact that they live together, go to work together, hang out afterwards together, and they’re just always together

 • lonnie’s  daughter (janice)  visits every other week (def the product of a divorce he went through years ago) she’s alright with gargan but she’s very distant towards her dad and def has that teen angst phase that she’s going through

 • (lonnie can and will talk to you for hours about how much he loves and supports his daughter despite the fact that their relationship is very estranged)

 • you can find janice hanging out with the cute blond punk girl at that weird burger/coffee place across the street

 • oh gargan’s big and strong despite the fact that he’s missing three limbs, liv works in robotics on the side and constantly tweaks and repairs his prosthetics when they start acting up which leads to them having this weird friendship where they both borrow each other when they need something and dont really expect anything in return (like gargan’s good for getting her supplies and doing heavy lifting when she needs it and liv’s always down to run check ups on gargan)

 • oh yeah liv used to be a scientist but immediately lost her license and phd when she started going above some board members heads to buy less than legal things through super illegal sources

.• that’s another thing, kingpin tends to just hire ex cons and criminals to work in his cafe just bc he believes that a person willing to work hard to better themselves deserves a chance to re enter society again.

 • like they’ve all done bad things but still ended up with a job at the cafe. aaron fought a cop, liv did some shady deals for an illegal experiment, gargan used to run a drug ring years ago due to personal reasons but once he was free from jail he never dealt with the stuff again, and lonnie killed a dude (allegedly. he never went to jail bc they couldn’t prove anything but hey word spread around quick and everyone knew not to go anywhere near this guy)

 • kingpin is in this au btw he’s just……a very depressed man who’s still grieving over his wife and son dying in a car accident

.• he rarely shows up to run the cafe bc its too much for him being in the place that his wife loved and built up from the ground. he used to be the manager after she died but couldn’t handle it and mostly left lonnie to take care of it

• which holy fuck lonnie is trying his best to keep this cafe alive and well and there’s only two other people working there so like its enough to have him scrambling all over the place trying to find more help (thanks aaron)

 •miles doesn’t know aaron’s working at the cafe across the street and aaron def wants it that way bc even tho he’s out of jail he hasn’t actually……visited miles yet….. it’s the shame that’s keeping aaron from reaching out to him which is….sad bc miles doesn’t care what happened he just wants his uncle back.

 • oh oh one more thing RIPeter used to run the deli across the street but had to leave brooklyn to go volunteer at homeless shelters across the states indefinitely so theres no telling when he’ll be back, so he left the cafe under the guidance of pb parker (peter b parker voice: my cafe now)

 •and uhhh thats all i got, like i said this au is just found family trope + the healing we all want + bad people getting redemption which is all the tropes that i love all compacted together in the most cliche au you can imagine!

sorting buzzfeed/ex buzzfeed employees into hogwarts houses

Ryan Bergara- Gryffindor

People often mistake Ryan as cowardly because he’s easily spooked, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! Bravery isn’t reliant on your resilience to fear- sometimes the bravest thing you can do is be scared.

The thing about Ryan is he doesn’t run from what he’s scared of- he faces it head on. Sure, he ran out a couple times during their stay at the Sallie House, but he was pushed to his absolute limits to even step foot in the house in the first place. He knew he was scared and he still was willing to try it out. That, right there, is brave!

People call Shane the brave one, which, as he’s said before, isn’t entirely true. For him, it’s easy, because he doesn’t believe in anything they investigate, so there’s nothing to be scared of. He’s said he’s a timid person, which is evident in the clip of him and Mark in the body chute, and even when they set off the alarm at the mission solano; Shane reacted more than Ryan did. Ryan has to be braver than Shane since he actually does believe in ghosts and shit, and you can tell he’s even grown a little tougher over the years.

Plus, he’s SO damn competitive, easily irritable (borderline hotheaded), and strong willed- all common Gryffindor traits. I will defend this until the day I DIE.

Shane Madej- Slytherin

It’s a practically a Slytherin trope that they’re assholish, antagonistic, witty, clever, and pretty damn sarcastic- all of which, of course, apply to Shane. But, regardless, most Slytherins have a soft spot. Hell, some aren’t even as bad as they’re made out to be. Shane’s soft spot is, of course, Ryan, and Unsolved as a whole.

Everything he does during investigations is for Ryan, and, if not, for the audience. Think about it, why on earth would he be so antagonistic with the ghosts if it weren’t for content? Literally what would he gain from that? And how boring would an episode be if Shane wasn’t cracking his usual jokes and having the usual banter with Ryan? He knows what works for the series and he sticks with it because he knows. Without it, Unsolved wouldn’t be what it is.

He, at this point, has to antagonize the ghouls. If he didn’t, people would surely be upset, or, at the least, confused. That’s what Unsolved has become all about- Shane’s dickhead comments and skepticism, and Ryan’s sheer terror and, of course, his Unsolved voice. He sticks with his “duty” because, not only does it appease the audience, but it benefits their show, and, inevitably, their pocket. That’s what Slytherins do- they’re cunning, they’re smart, they’re often business/work savvy. Shane is incredibly smart, in more ways than one. Book and street smart.

He doesn’t only care about what the audience thinks or how much they benefit from an episode, of course. If he did, I’m sure he wouldn’t take Ryan’s feelings and fear into account the way he does. It’s evident he cares about Ryan, and would never push him to a point where he was over the line, or causing him any sort of unreasonable stress or harm. Like in the Annabelle episode, he stopped when he saw how much him almost touching the glass upset Ryan. He didn’t make fun of him for it, he didn’t ignore it and try again, he just stopped and carried on, because he does care. It’s not all about business and money, because he’s not entirely inhuman.

Steven Lim- Hufflepuff

I think this one is fairly obvious. Steven has the biggest heart, he’s always affectionate and fond, especially of Andrew. I mean, have you seen the In Control With Kelsey/Worth It series?? The episode when he’s making Andrew’s character, he speaks of him with such softness and fondness, even when he’s not there, because he just fucking loves him. He doesn’t even acknowledge himself as, I hate to say it, the backbone of Worth It.

After all, it is his series. He started it, just like Ryan did with Unsolved. Along the way, Andrew just happened to adapt to the show, he made it his own, but he didn’t make it. Steven did. But he doesn’t ever make it seem that way. He treats Andrew, Adam, Annie, and Rie as his equals. Even with Keith on the show, he gave him more credit than was probably logically necessary, but thats because it’s genuinely how he perceives everyone- important.

Back to In Control With Kelsey/Worth It- he saw how stupidly excited Andrew got when making the restaurant, and just in general, doing the entire series. Did you notice how submissive he was through that entire thing? How cooperative and agreeable he was? Andrew didn’t have to fight, debate, argue, nothing. Steven just let him. That’s SO HUFFLEPUFF!

Andrew Ilnyckyj- Slytherin

Shane doesn’t struggle with vulnerability like Andrew does (or, rather, did), because he’s not afraid of being open. Or, at least, that’s what it seems like. Shane never seems to have a problem being open about his friendship and closeness with Ryan, whereas Andrew was always hesitant to be close with Steven on camera.

You can see over the course of Worth It that he slowly becomes more comfortable and accepting, even initiating some of the cheers with Steven, being a lot more touchy, not being afraid to be seen as silly or even loving, and has just seemed to grow more trusting in general.

I referenced In Control With Kelsey/Worth It during Steven’s analysis, but I think it works here to prove my point as well. Andrew immediately, and naturally, took charge of almost everything. He had a plan and he wanted to stick to it, no matter what, barely wanting to (and not necessarily needing to, thanks to Steven) compromise or change his ideas whatsoever. Slytherins tends to take the lead, which you can definitely see there.

Like Shane, he’s business savvy. But, unlike Shane, he’s more reserved and collected. The “silent but deadly” type. Plus, he gives off SUCH a protective vibe. The kind that doesn’t trust easy, but, when he does, it’s a priority in his life. Though he often seems to have his own best interest in mind, he’s not selfish. He ha/ balance, but he’s not afraid to do things for his own benefit.

Ned Fulmer- Gryffindor

Need I say more?

But, seriously, Ned is 100% pure Gryffindor. He often comes off as cocky and competitive, always striving to be the best, and, if he can’t be, at least draw the spotlight to him for a little while. This is clearly just surface level Ned. This is the Ned he wants people to think he is. Or, at least, that’s how I see it.

In the “Try Guys Try Therapy” video, you see a lot of Ned’s insecurities come to light. He feels overshadowed by Keith, which leads me to believe he tries to be loud, outgoing, and borderline obnoxious, in order to make a statement- so he won’t be forgotten.

Ned isn’t afraid to take risks. He left a company that gave him sustainable income for basically a dream. He had goals, and he was willing to take a leap of faith to achieve them. He had so much come at him in life at once- a baby, moving, leaving Buzzfeed, etc. and he still pushed through because it was what he wanted.

I don’t think anybody disagrees that Ned is competitive. Maybe even the most competitive Try Guy, though arguably that could be Keith. It’s no surprise Ned is a Gryffindor. He’s brave, he’s competitive, he’s passionate, he’s outgoing, and, not to mention, fierce as fuck.

Zach Kornfeld- Hufflepuff

Zach is a teddy bear.

He’s equally as lovable as he is loving. He clearly loves the other Try Guys so much, you can just tell. All he ever wants to do is make people happy, whether it be his friends, family, the audience, Maggie, whatever. He has the biggest heart.

He’s constantly speaking fondly, or, at least, truthfully, about everyone and everything. You can tell he’s sensitive, just by the way he’s able to buckle down and be serious in episodes like “When Will The Try Guys Die?” and “Should The Try Guys Get Plastic Surgery?” (that last one breaks my heart every time).

He’s not afraid to be open and vulnerable, though he still values and worries about the opinions of others. He seriously deserves the entire world I’m gonna lose my shit

Eugene Lee Yang- Slytherin

This is canon, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure this is canon. I’m not even sure I have to explain.

BUT, I will say this: Eugene is driven by passion. He puts everything, and even then some, into what he loves. He gives nothing short of his all when working on projects that he truly believes in, that will benefit him, or just what he loves.

A lot like Andrew, Eugene started very closed off and hardened, not being an easy egg to crack. It took a long time for him to build trust and to eventually open up to first The Try Guys, and then the whole fucking world.

Eugene is so brave. He’s been through so much shit, and still manages to turn his experiences into art and lessons for peoppebto learn from. He doesn’t see his mistakes and setbacks as the end of anything, merely obstacles he becomes more determined to get over. I’m pretty sure he’s been called stubborn more than he’s been called his own name. But, it’s this stubbornness and persistence that makes him such a hardworking, talented, amazing human being. I just fucking love Eugene Lee Yang okay.

Keith Habersberger- Ravenclaw

This one may be more driven by gut instinct, but Keith strikes me as a Ravenclaw:

In the DNA test video, I know it proved Ned and Eugene to be the alphas, but I could definitely see Keith being a natural leader in the right setting. If no one else is taking charge, he seems he’d have no problem stepping up and ordering people around. He seems like the type of person who, as a kid, too group projects way too seriously.

Keith strikes me as a bit of a perfectionist, and someone who doesn’t care if they’re taking the easy way out, as long as the “easy way” is done to the absolute best possible quality.

He seems to have a good understanding of his profession, and it feels like he’s able to adapt to things especially quickly and become good at them, whether it’s out of spite, the desire to be the best, or simply because he’s passionate about something.

He’s naturally competitive, which may come from a place where he feels he needs to be the best at something to be good at something at all. I’m sure he’s very hard on himself, which makes me sad. Keith is so funny and genuine, he doesn’t even have to try. Despite being arguably the Try Guy who takes things the least seriously, if he needed to, he’d never hesitate to help the people he loves and trusts through their hardships, and would offer great advice and wisdom. everyone and their dog is doing it and everyone is absolutely allowed to share their opinions so i want a turn but first let me clarify:

hello im yase, been around since 1.0. I am of turkish and nogai descent and i can speak fluently in tatar, turkish but my english doesn’t hold 100% so i will be all over the place.

Unfortunately this will all be word of mouth and may be taken as vague posting, but I have experienced issues since the release of 4.0 and would like to give my opinions. I want to let this all off my chest this is just a huge vent basically so i guarantee my english will be terrible.

the most important point: NEVER EVER SPEAK FOR ANOTHER CULTURE. NEVER EVER SPEAK ABOUT A CULTURE YOU DON’T KNOW. YOU HAVE SPREAD FALSE INFORMATION AND I AM SO HURT.

another point is ITS A VIDEO GAME GUYS (does not apply to everything but some people really need to take a step back because people are concerned.)

Here’s the hot topic I’ll talk of first: garleans. I personally do not play one as I prefer to play characters that would never be involved in a sense with the political agenda because in real life im too stupid to comprehend anything like that so i wouldn’t even know how my character would behave with the hot topics. I really do think people need to take a step back and see that everyone who is putting in their input is making solid points but personally I would never compare them to nazi germany though I see why people are generalising. I always saw it as tsardom of russia with the use of roman influence as well, something obvious in naming conventions and the way the ranks/monarchy(?) works but it’s not so clear what the main influences of most places in this game if you have a look at the bigger picture. Without like full on spoiling, its weird to have this view to me with the knowledge that ascians are behind this. Are you implying anyone who plays or was influenced by ascians is also under this umbrella? 

Also why THE HELL WOULD YOU TAG SOMETHING KNOWING IT WOULD GET A LOT OF TRACTION AND RESPONSE THEN BE LIKE “you guys misunderstood, I was expressing my feelings” lol no. “ I don’t understand where this is coming from, and at this point, I don’t really want to.” then why did you even fucking bother do it in private dont tag it.

You are COMPLETELY valid to feeling uncomfortable, it is fine because with how much of this world we have there will be aspects some of us don’t like. You are not inclined to involve yourself with someone if they roleplay as a garlean but you do not need to start publicising it in a way that will paint the community in black and white when its truly a wider spectrum.

from that initial and very brief tagged post there popped up many others and new discourse is arising, opening discussions about many things which is better then being blind to it all. but if you have personal grievances with someone and you state its over, let it be over. It’s not healthy behaviour. it’s also troubling to see someone complain a lot about the game and continue to play, no one is forcing you or holding a gun to your head. take breaks if you need to and play less frequently. like, real life is so much more important and there are people in this community that prioritise relationships with players etc.

it is absolutely not hard to tag a post and ask around, someone will pop up. I’ve been doing my very best to let everyone i know that i can help with learning about my culture or to find someone who would be more then happy to explain and share with other cultures. But when you go off of a documentary you saw of Genghis khan or only know of the tourist white people scenes of istanbul you as a community say some TRULY dumb shit.

I like to try and be patient because i myself when approaching someone of a culture i admire and am curious about i want that in turn. But if you say to me things like “Ainu aren’t real” or “Tatar people have nothing in common with tribes from the Altai mountains” its hard to do so.

FFXIV regions are not just “Germany” “Turkey” “Mongolia”. If you think this, it’s clear to me you don’t know shit and are too lazy to explore, further just google shit its not that hard. I had someone tell me that my people could never be in this game since its “Straight up mongolia” fucks sake NO ITS NOT. The designs vary and i can see the differences in simple things like words because i actually bother to do research even coming from a turkic culture. There were some beautiful little things dropped that linked to not only my people but others like Uyghur and Altai. The only place in FFXIV i think could only have a singular influence is Kugane, because from a foreigner’s perspective that’s already interesting enough. Many people have grievances and real issues with how SE has handled Doma’s influences and no one ever talks about that. Representation for asia in media has turned into this mess of specific east asian countries, the trio that even then gets categorized into China/Japan with brief mentions of Korean culture. 

Its frustrating. There are people who are happy to teach you. Who are willing to show what is wrong with the picture.

I have read several posts about Turkey/istanbul/Antalya. Yall fuckin weird you guys seem to think its in U.A.E or some shit with how you act. It’s in the Mediterranean/Europe/Asia/Middle East and there is no such thing as a specific looking Turkish person. You claim everyone is specifically white/brown, HELL NO. It’s a mixed nation and that’s the history of the land, if you had ever fucking stepped in turkey and spoke to any person on the street they’ll say their heritage that lead them to there. People claim Ala mhigo’s influences are turkey but i have yet to see that. As someone who has lived there and has heritage there and is strongly connected to that culture, i dont see it. sure the ala mhigan gown had patternings but thats also present in my nogai culture too because parts of turkey’s society descended from the line of the Kayi tribe. Just fucking LEARN TO READ GUYS. None of you guys even know what the altai mountains mean and i could sit and explain over and over again if you let people SPEAK.

Look at Thavnairian items. We have outfits that are completely different, a full length dress and then a bustier. you can’t start generalising things in video games to be one culture you have to realise most places in this game have several influences. We don’t know a lot but everything we have been given has been varied enough to pin point it to ONLY one influence.

I don’t want to just keep going about this simply because im growing frustrated.

The thing with Viera complaints. I think some are valid but some are stupid. For one as I make this post it hasn’t even been confirmed so there is no reason for policing Viera to a severe extent. Considering all the Ivalice content in game has been an alternate universe kind of thing its dumb as shit. But feol viera being made without understanding the knowledge that people who have played rw picked up is quite frustrating. As a community, its important to help people when we have information that others may need that they cant understand the context of.

I know people are worried about them being fetishized, that is my legitimate fear too as a huge ivalice fan. But this is a repeated cycle especially when we consider generalizations like miqo’te especially seekers and belly dancing or when au ra arrived and people thought xaela were genghis khan basically. 

The game is not solid, there are so many holes in the lore and the plots and i know people hate that but we fill the gaps with our own opinions and theories. While I understand some people think we need to move forward in 2019 because “japan is xenophobic”, its a very difficult thing to do. THEY DO HIRE PEOPLE FOR CULTURE ADVISING. THEY TRAVEL OFTEN AND DEVELOP WITH THIS. IT’S NOT LIKE THEY WENT ON GOOGLE AND SAID “yeah a japan land would be fun” they literally have people hired specifically for this stuff. however, at the end of the day its a company that has yet to show it can evolve with the times. Its becoming more and more evident with the recent patterns of main titles in FF and side projects having so many issues in story/lore/management. remember 1.0 basically died being absolute garbage and this is salvaged from that.

its really late and i had a terrible evening so i may not be making the most sense but theres more important things to worry about then to make this game a miserable experience when it could be a huge learning opportunity for everyone. There’s no need to generalise people into categories because of characters they choose to develop but its important to note with majority of people standing up higher on the pedestal are those speaking for the minorities groups that have direct influences in the game.

A♥️ - Who was the first person your muse ever fell in love with?

Maglor. It wasnt really expected, they were so young, about 14 and spent a lot of time together for school, and just because they were good friends. They both were having that realization of “.. i think I like boys too.” at the time, and kinda kept it to themselves aside from maybe one friend. I cant speak for Maglor, but Finrod told his best friend at the time he was having feelings. Mags became his first intense crush. During several months of them working together on a project for music class they kind of played around with subtly flirting or touching shoulders when sitting close, really sweet kinds of things. Just testing the waters to see if the feelings were returned and just because it was such a new feeling.

One day they happen to be sitting really close and looked at each other, then just.. both of them really awkwardly leaned in reallyyyy slow and kissed. They actually kissed, again really awkwardly but really adorable, about three times in a row before Finrod’s mother walked in to say dinner was almost ready. It was a really embarrassing and funny first kiss. His parents are obviously super supportive tho. They dated for about.. a year and 8 months maybe? Around that bc about 5 months into being 15 is when he started getting his mutation little by little and by the time it got to the beginning of 8 months it had gone full fledged and drama happened.

Finrod loved him and thats why he broke up with him, he was a young teen who felt that was the best option. Then he was at the institute for around 7 months when he met Rhys I think, and was 2 like..months into being 16. He moved on with time, it just wasnt meant to be, and being friends with Rhys really and truly made him happy. It felt right and like everything was perfect even if things had happened, they had each other and thats all he realized he wanted. He loves Rhys more than he ever thought he could love anyone. Its a more mature love, rather than a first love. Thats not to say he doesnt love Maglor still, but that type of love changes with time you know? The nature of it.. Rhys is the person he wants to be with, and stay with forever now.

4♥️ - What are your muse’s thoughts on starting/raising a family?

Finrod would LOVE to adopt and raise a family if Rhys wanted to. Children have always been something he imagined having one day. He wants to share that experience with someone he loves, and raise a child together. However, its only something he wants if Rhys wants it.  He never ever EVER wants Rhys to feel like its something they have to have, or like he has to say yes to make Finrod happy. Finrod’s entire world is wonderful with Rhys in it as it is. He doesnt need children to be happy, and if all they ever had was a bunny and a snail he’d be the happiest man in the world still. Which ever they decide one day hes happy with.

7♣️ - Has your muse ever felt “trapped”, either figuratively or literally?

When he first started getting his mutation and realized what was happening he did at first. Mostly because he didnt have a choice in what was happening to him. He was trapped into turning into something, he at the time didnt want. Not to mention something he thought was going to ruin everyones lives including his own. Of course once he learned better and realized it was who he was  meant to be, he would /never/ give up his mutation even if he had the chance. He loves who he is, he wouldnt know what to do without it.

J♣️ - Who does your muse trust the most?

Hmm well he trusts a lot of people and cant just choose one. It depends on the situation presented as to who he would trust with what. In general though, the top people he immediately trusts in ANY situation always is his parents and Rhys. For instance though, his siblings he would trust with his life in serious situations (aside from Galadriel if shes only a toddler just bc shes too little to understand) but not trust his brothers to keep a secret that isnt life or death. Theyre tattletelling 12 year olds haha, theyre gonna tell things sometimes. Finrod does love them dearly tho, just as an older brother he knows better than to trust them with certain things. XD His parents tho are two people he knows, no matter what always have his, his sibling’s, and Rhys’ back too. Theyre good trusting parents, and he knows they would only /ever/ break their promises to them if it was extremely important. The same with Rhys, Finrod knows he can always trust him no matter what the situation and if for some reason Rhys’ breaks a promise or something happens, he knows there HAS to be something extremely important or wrong going on.

2♦️ - How important is money to your muse?

Ehh I feel like this question isnt as simple as it sounds like the last one haha.  It vastly depends on the situation as to how he feels about money. For instance, when he first meets Rhys he doesnt care at all that Rhys doesnt have any money or anything for that matter.  He doesnt place someones worth in relation to their financial status. Which is obvious to anyone who knows him. Even tho Rhys may still feel insecure about that time in his life, which is understandable, its really important to Finrod that he knows, he never ever saw anything wrong with him in any way much less the lack of money and homelessness.

When they meet/become friends/ are at the institute he does start putting more importance into money than before. Previously it was just certain things like, money for a new instrument he had wanted to raise himself rather than his parents spending all that money on him bc they have four kids. Not to mention they had already bought him a guitar among other things.  So he took that summer job at the greenhouse to make that money for something he wanted, and took that job several times so he could help out, and have extra spending money. 

When he meets Rhys, I think that value shifts a bit bc he starts saving for someone else. Sure he still does things for himself, he wouldnt want Rhys to think he wasnt, but when you care about someone you take care of them. Suddenly money went from something he could earn to spend on things he wanted to having a value of making someone he cares for comfortable and at home. Obviously he didnt overkill spend money on him left and right, he knows better, but it was the little things like buying Rhys a jacket he didnt have before, giving him essential things he hadnt had like a toothbrush, socks, more clothes, a hairbrush. He wouldnt pile all these things on him at once so as not to overwhelm him, but hes gonna get those things for him. Some before Rhys even comes to live with him at the institute and some in the weeks after he moves in. After that, its little things like a special snack he knows will make him smile at lunch, a textured scrunchie or cuff bracelet or something he thought Rhys might wanna fiddle with on his wrist when nervous or bored and of course use the scrunchie for his hair. Just little sweet gestures that shows he cares. Rhys’ happiness and to see him smile is priceless.

Once they move into their apartment together I think its a little similar but theyre on their own then. The value on money goes higher bc they have to pay rent and buy groceries. Sure, his parents do help them out the first month or so and help them get a decent car but theyre starting a life together. It turns into supporting them, saying bills, saving up, buying groceries, more sweet gestures. All of that he happily does, hes absolutely thrilled that they have a life of their own that hes just enjoying it even if bills arent fun. Its their life together thats fun and always enjoyable bc he has Rhys.

Furthermore, his importance on money isnt just him supporting Rhys, its also Rhys supporting himself. Rhys having freedom to live, being his own person. Having a life and independence thats very much deserved after what hes been through. Rhys getting a job of his own is so so important to Finrod bc he knows what it means to Rhys. So theres just no limit to how important Rhys’ money is bc of its significance. Thats a really long answer haha but its such a good question I hope it makes sense.

7♠️ - What’s a hard truth that your muse has to learn/has learned?

Hmm. Going back to when he had all those angsty moments when he was first getting his mutation. The hard truth of it was accepting who he was and that it was okay. Just because all of this was happening to him doesnt mean he has to give up everything he ever wanted or people he cared for.  He can still live his life and be happy just the way he is.

They don’t want Zak to know they’re the blog owner because that would ruin their chance of getting close to him…so until then, they will project their jealousy and hatred thru this blog and let their feelings be validated by a ring of other insecure women who come here to GOSSIP.

The first time Cooper disappears for an entire day, Laura panics. No matter how often she reminds herself that they’re safe, they’re no longer fugitives in the United States, the year in Wakanda still weighs heavily on her mind, lingers in her dreams. She still wakes up sometimes in a cold sweat, and has to shake the feeling that if she turns around, goes down the hall and checks each of the doors behind which her children sleep, she’ll find only empty space, empty beds, instead of her babies.

The panic is easy to contain at first. She’s not hysterical by nature. She comes from practical stock, problem-solving stock. Take one step, then another. Work the problem at hand, not the myriad possible problems that might lie in the future. Running around like she’s lost her head will not find her son, so she allows herself five breaths to feel the fear, and then firmly puts it aside, finds her shoes, and leaves her family’s apartments to start looking for Cooper.

The panic isn’t so easy to contain two hours later, when she’s all but scoured the compound top to bottom and still hasn’t turned up so much as a hair of Cooper Francis Barton. The panic is, in fact, having a much easier time of driving her on hurrying feet and quickening breath towards the archery range, where she expects to find Clint. 

Unless he’s disappeared into thin air too. 

That thought doesn’t help the panic. 

Clint is right where she thought he’d be, and his warm, happy smile at seeing her approach quickly shifts to a frown of confusion and concern as she halts in front of him. “Hey,” he says, soft and gentle, sets his bow down to reach out and take her by the shoulders, rubbing her biceps soothingly. “What’s wrong?”

Her head swims as she takes a deep breath, oxygen rush making her momentarily dizzy, but Clint keeps her from swaying too much. “I can’t find Cooper,” she says while the spots are clearing out of her eyes. “Lila is with Cassie, and Nat stole Nathan this morning, but I don’t know where Cooper is.”

It relieves her to see how fast the concern clears from Clint’s expression, because that means he knows there’s nothing to worry about. “Cooper’s with Tony,” he says. “Has been since this morning. Cooper wanted to see where Tony worked, so they came to me after breakfast. I told them it was fine.” The smile slips a little and his head tilts when she does sag, apparently misreading her relief for upset. “Was that not okay?”

“No,” she says, hastily shaking her head. “No, he’s safe with Tony. I just…” She trails off, swallows and closes her eyes. 

Clint pulls her into a hug, more of an embrace, and she leans into his reassuring warmth. “You want to go make sure?” he asks gently, kisses her temple. 

She makes a face into his shoulder. “I’m being ridiculous,” she mutters. 

“Naw,” he replies, moves her so he can see her face and tucks her hair behind her ear. “I put you through a lot, and that took a toll. It’s going to take time for all that to go away.” At least he doesn’t apologize this time; he’s getting better at that too. “C’mon,” he says, kisses her forehead, and slides his arm around her shoulders. “It’s almost time to drag Tony out of the workshop and remind him he needs to eat sometime this week anyway.”

“Shit,” Tony says, wide-eyed as he stares at them both, and Laura’s faintly amused that his first instinct is to jingle around in his pocket for a quarter, which she holds her hand out to take. She doesn’t think he’s even noticed he’s done it yet. “I didn’t think to leave a note for you, Laura.”

“It’s fine, Tony,” she says, before he can start apologizing in more depth. He’s another one that needs to stop kicking himself black and blue. He will, if Laura has anything to say about that. She peers past, glancing around. “I just wanted to check and make sure Cooper hasn’t corrupted you into world domination.”

Tony’s smirk is wry. “Not one of my sins, unless you count dominating energy and communications across the globe. He’s in the bot lab, in the back. I’ll get him.”

“No no. Just…” She sighs and looks up at him with a wry smile. “Is it okay if I come in, just for a minute?”

Tony gives her an odd look, surprise, and glances to Clint before looking back at her. “Of course it is,” he says, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. 

“Her sin is obsessive politeness,” Clint says, and oofs at the elbow she nudges into his ribs. “What? It’s true.”

“It’s not polite to point it out,” she says primly. “Thank you, Tony. I’ll just be a second.”

“Stay as long as you like,” he replies, still with that baffled tone. As she walks away, she hears Tony add, in an undertone to Clint, “You know you’re both welcome anywhere, right?”

“Laura never assumes anything, dumbass,” comes Clint’s easy, fond reply, “so maybe try telling her that. Normal people use words to convey their intentions. I know it’s not a technique you’re familiar with, but might be worth a shot?”

“… I hate you so much, Katniss.”

“Mutual, Tin Man.”

Laura smiles and shakes her head. At least they’ve finally shaken the last of the tension between them. She reminds herself to tell Cooper he can finally dig the box of toy cars out from under his bed, where she told him to hide them. 

Cooper’s got his back to the stairs, and two … rover-looking machines on either side. They’re all focused on the work table in front of them, busily chirping and beeping and chattering between themselves. Though she’d only heard of the bots in passing, she finds herself completely unsurprised to discover them displaying personalities of their own. 

The last remnants of the irrational fear dissipates when he glances over his shoulder to the robot on his left to take the tool it’s offering him, catches sight of her, and turns with a smile. 

“Hey Mom,” he says. “What’re you doing here?”

Cooper’s at a touchy age, and Laura’s still trying to get a feel for how much motherly affection he minds her showing. She settles for ruffling his hair with a hand, smiling down at him. “Came to get you and Tony for lunch,” she says. “I thought we’d go into town. There’s a diner there I keep meaning to try. What do you think?”

Cooper looks back at the table, back at her, then down at his feet before back up. “Mom… can we do that another time? Me and Tony are doing a project and I kinda wanna finish it.”

She arches an eyebrow. “You know, last week, you were badgering your father and I to take you into town so you could get away from the compound for awhile.”

“That was before Tony asked if I wanted to learn how to be an engineer, Mom,” Cooper replies, impatiently, and Laura bites back a smile. “Please? Can I stay?”

She eyes him for a moment, until he’s shifting from foot to foot, and then decides to be merciful. “If you tell me what you’re working on.”

Cooper eyes her right back, as if sizing her up. “How do I know you’re not a corporate spy looking to steal my ideas?”

“Corporate spies don’t pay your allowance, brat.” She reaches out to ruffle his hair again. “I’m your mom, not an infiltrator.”

“That’s the perfect cover,” he says, squinting at her. “No one ever expects their moms.”

She laughs, while making a mental note to herself to talk to Clint about how many spy thrillers he watches with the kids, even if he claims to only do it so he can point out to the kids all the things they’re doing wrong. “C’mon. What are you working on?”

“I,” he says, and steps to the side to turn back to the table to show her, “am learning how to be an engineer from Tony. He made these guys, and they’re super helpful. Thats what I want to do too. And Tony’s the best. He says I’ll get into MIT no sweat, if that’s what I want. But I don’t want to wait for college, so…” He takes a deep breath and lets it out fast, in a huff that sets his shoulders. “I’m making a bot like Dum-E and U.”

Her eyebrow goes up again. “Dum-E and U? Those are their names?”

Cooper nods, points at the one on the left. “That’s U. He’s kinda shy, so don’t be offended if he doesn’t look at you or anything. He holds the cameras and makes sure Tony’s experiments are properly documented. And this,” he says, patting the other bot on the flat top of its… head, she guesses. “This is Dum-E. Tony said he made him when he wasn’t much older than me, in his Dad’s workshop. He’s had him a long time. He’s not really smart, not like FRIDAY, but he’s great at helping. And he saved Tony’s life a couple times.”

She doesn’t want to accuse her son of overexaggerating things, but she’s seen the machines Tony creates, and this one doesn’t look remotely advanced to be able to do complex things like that. “He did, did he?”

“Yup! A couple of times, Tony caught on fire. Hazard of innovation, he says. Dum-E used the fire extinguisher in plenty of time, and Tony says all those things really don’t count, but I think they do.”

“I see.”

“And,” he adds offhandedly, “when Mr. Stane stole Tony’s arc reactor out of his chest, Dum-E got him the old one before his heart stopped beating. And even Tony says that counts as saving his life. Tony underexaggerates a lot of those kinds of things, so I think it should count two or three more times.”

Her breath catches and her spine goes cold at the implications. Out of all the stories she’s heard about the various Avengers, she’s definitely never heard that one. “I think you’re right,” she says when she can speak again. “And if Dum-E hadn’t done that, we wouldn’t have Tony now.” 

Dum-E chirps inquisitively at her, and its head-analogue tilts slightly as she leans over him. “Thank you,” she breathes and, though she wants to throw her arms around the clunky metal body and hug the hell out of it, she doesn’t want Cooper to give her that exasperated look that tells her he thinks she’s being weird either. So she settles for dropping a light kiss to the top of its head, just above the round lens. “I appreciate it a lot.”

Dum-E chirps again, a happy sound, and spins on its wheels. 

“I know it was a long time ago,” Cooper says, “but I wanted to say thank you to them, so I’m making them a little brother.” He hands her his tablet, which is currently displaying surprisingly professional-looking schematics. “Tony helped me draw them, but I’m still just a kid, so I shouldn’t feel bad about that, he says. I gotta come up with the name myself. And I don’t want it to be dumb. It’s harder than it looks.”

“I named four kids, kiddo,” she says with a smirk. “Tell me about it.” She scrolls slowly through the pages, marvelling a little at the miracle Tony in their lives continues to feel like. “Well, that is definitely a robot.”

“Oh my god!” Cooper blinks, and then his whole face lights up. “Mom! You did it! You did it!”

Her turn to blink and stare. “What did I do?”

Instead of answering her, Cooper bounds past her and down the half-flight of stairs, running for the front. She follows behind in confusion, tablet still in her hands, as he calls, “Tony! Tony! Mom did it! She said it was definitely a robot! And since its my first one…”

Tony turns from his conversation with Clint, who’s looking just as lost as she is, but Tony just grins and holds out a fist which Cooper obligingly bumps. “1-DAR. Nicely done, science kid. Don’t forget to update the files with the name. Rule 9: write the little things down, because you have no idea how fast they’ll disappear from your head.”

“Gotcha.” Cooper nods solemnly, then turns back to her and holds out his hand. “Thanks so much, Mom. Can I have my tablet back? I gotta update my files.”

“Sure,” she says, bemused, and hands it back. “You boys look busy, so I’ll bring lunch down to you in a bit. Sound good?”

To her surprise, Cooper throws his arms around her waist and hugs her tightly. “You’re the best, Mom! I’m going back to the bot lab, Tony. You coming?”

“Go on without me, I’ll be there in a minute. Gotta talk to your parents a sec.” When Cooper’s back at the top of the stairs, Tony turns back to them with a grimace. “I should have left you a note, Laura. Or come ask you myself. I–”

“Shut up, Tony,” Laura says and he goes shock-still when she just hugs him impulsively. “He’s happy here and we trust you. A note’s fine. Stick it on the fridge. It’s where our family puts things we need each other to see. He can be in here sunup to sundown as far as I care. Just let us know, is all.” She pulls away from him before she starts to cry and smiles up at his absolutely baffled, slightly terrified face. “What do you want for lunch? I’ll bring it down for you.”

“Whatever’s fine, Laura. Don’t want to be a bother.” He withers a little under her steady gaze. “I like chicken club sandwiches,” he mutters, eyes darting to the side. “I was gonna make myself one later with the leftovers from dinner the other day.”

“I got it,” she says with another smile, holds his gaze long enough that he starts shifting uncomfortably. That’s when she turns back to Clint, who’s looking highly amused and smug at her. “Let’s leave the boys to their tinkering.” 

“Talk to you later, Tony,” Clint says, glancing over her shoulder with another sideways smile. “See you when you get home.”

“Sure,” Tony says, still uncertain, and sees them out the door. 

Clint walks with her in silence for a few minutes as they head home, but she can feel him swelling with amusement and smugness. “So,” he finally says, just as they’re leaving the workshop and lab areas to wait for the elevator. “I couldn’t help but notice…”

“Shut up, Barton,” she says firmly. “That’s not a conversation I want to have right now. I’m still thinking.”

He’s still smug and smirking, the prick, as he shrugs broadly. “All I’m saying is…”

“I know what you’re saying.” She sighs and rubs her forehead, then scrubs her face. “Did you know one of his bots saved his life?”

He arches an eyebrow. “Yes. You didn’t?”

“No.” She shakes her head. “He makes the most amazing things and doesn’t take credit for any of it. More to the point, he’s teaching Cooper how to do that and only worries that we’ll be mad at him.” She looks at Clint, and just like that, her mind’s made up. “He’s a Barton,” she declares. “He’s ours.”

“I know he is. Don’t worry, sweetheart,” Clint says, snags her around the neck and pulls her in to kiss her forehead. “We’ll fix him up. You’re really good at that. Just look at how you put me back together.”

Weight she didn’t even know she was carrying is abruptly gone. “You’re still a work in progress, Barton,” she says. “I don’t think there’s ever gonna be any fixing you.”

“Probably not,” he agrees, and holds his arm out across the opening elevator doors to let her step in first. “But you love me just like I am.”

“Probably,” she admits with a soft laugh as the doors close behind them. “We all have our incurable faults.”

Tony and Cooper barely notice her coming in a short while later, and she leaves the tray with their sandwiches and drinks on an empty counter nearby. Tony thanks her distractedly, echoed a second later by Cooper, and they go back to their arcane technobabble. She smiles fondly at them, the two heads so close together, and feels blessed all over again.

As she’s moving through the main workshop on her way out, she sees Dum-E tidying up a workspace off to the side. She glances over her shoulder, but neither of her boys are paying attention to her. 

It’s impulsive, but she steps into the work area, and stops beside Dum-E, who twists his lens around to look at her and beeps curiously. “Thank you again,” she says, far more heartfelt than when Cooper had been there, and this time does hug the bot. “He wouldn’t be here if not for you, so thank you.”

Dum-E chirps again and the shaft of his upper body rests gently on her shoulder, like he’s hugging her back. He beeps again, happy and noisome, but she knows without understanding a single sound that he’s saying you’re welcome.

I actually just started my first year of art school, do you have any tips for a beginner?

uhhH. depends on what you do? if ur in illustration/animation or graphic design or something im kinda lost, since i only know fine arts

but ok, some things i learned:

do your own thing, but dont make a sport out of ignoring the teachers. one of my classmates last year made it a point to ignore every teacher’s advice bc he got really high grades up until that point and he felt like it was some kind of mind game they were playing? didnt work out so he turned around on that real quick

talk to your teachers. talk to your fellow students. talk ABOUT YOUR WORK to both. its embarrassing but my fucking god you’ll learn so much more quickly if you dont hide your work away out of embarrassment. accept criticism, ASK for criticism, work with your classmates and teachers because they’re the greatest asset you have when it comes to learning.

take your own work seriously. also, learn to look at your work in a non-personal way. obviously you’ll always have certain feelings etc with work you make, but try to distance yourself from that and look at your work in a way you feel someone else would. taking it seriously is also super important. respect your work, see what you like and dislike about it, think about WHY you like/dislike those things, and grow from it.

dont be embarrassed to make work YOU like. to work on ideas YOU like. dont get stuck in a “i have to make this or this kind of work bc its Deep and Artsy and Others are Doing It Maybe” bc thats asinine and you’ll spend months working on stuff you dont even like. i did that. do not

for gods sake TALK ABOUT YOUR WORK. i cannot stress enough how important talking is. in art school you learn to look at art and dissect it and while most people already have an eye for works are interesting, you’ll also learn WHY its an interesting work and goddd its hard. thats why you need to talk talk talk. its super important. im not even kidding its literally the best way to grow in your art. talk about your work, talk about others’ work, talk with your teachers and your fellow students and even people outside of art school. value their opinions. seriously, just walk up to people and ask em what theyre doing and why. its good for both of you.

dont desperately try to have your work show the concept of it. seriously, if you start with an idea and make work around that idea, you’ll mostly end up with work thats just the idea itself, and doesnt stand on its own. its hard to explain, but trust your audience to be able to look at your art and take their time to dissect it, your underlying concept does NOT have to be blatantly obvious right of the bat. it weakens a work.

think about whether you want to show a message to an audience or to make an audience feel something. neither are wrong, at all! but its a different way of working. for example, someone who wants to show a message of feeling trapped to an audience will draw someone in a cramped room, but someone who wants to make an audience feel trapped will create a work thats hard to look at, and is big and loud and overwhelms you. its really hard to explain, but i hope you understand what i mean. a paper drawing of a girl in a trapped room wont make an audience feel trapped. a big af painting thats the size of like 2 people and seems to be coming right at you will make the audience feel trapped, or at least like they wanna get out of there.

with that said, theres a LOT of different ways to make a viewer feel something. the material you work with, the medium you work with, what size you work with etc. dont only use one medium, and try to cross the boundaries of the medium youre using. dont constantly color in between the lines, so to speak. dont let yourself get trapped in the medium you work with, try out new and radical things.

if you have a work you really like, see what else you can do with it! have a painting you love? try projecting something over it! try making 8 more of that painting and hang em up in rows of 3 and see what it does! do not only push the boundaries of what you can do with your medium, push the boundaries of what you can do with a work you like.

kinda wanna stress that im only a 2nd year so my experience isnt that much hah. but this is what i learned from my first year. also wanna stress that it took me a full year to get good at talking about my art so honestly dont feel bad if you dont get it within 2 months ahaha. also, i still have trouble with pretty much all the thing listed, as do my classmates, but theyre still tips i wouldve found useful in my first year.

It’s those damn Pennslyvania females....

I am a hostess. As a hostess, I often work side-by-side with a male co-worker for hours at a time. These boys and I, we have a bit of a problem. They just don’t seem to understand I do not like being talked over. I don’t like being contradicted in front of customers, I do not like being cut off. However, for some reason this seems to be a daily challenge for these brew boys.

Customer: Can we have a table outside? Me: We are actually on a waitlist right now, but if you give me- Brew Boy: There’s outdoor seating upstairs! The left side is open seating and                       the right side is dining. You guys can just go ahead and check it out! Customer: Okay, thanks! 

2 minutes later

Me: I don’t like it when boys talk over me. Brew Boy: What? (brow furrows) Oh. (comprehending) Okay. (thoughts forming) 

3 minutes later

Brew Boy: It’s cause you’re so quiet. Customers can’t hear you. I’m louder.                          (Waves arms in a forward motion) You need to PROJECT your                              VOICE. (continues to provide interpretive hand gestures) I can be                        chipper for the both of us today. I’m not hungover so I feel great,                        usually I’m super hungover you know? Me: I’m not quiet, my voice is just softer than yours. And you talk over me when        I try to answer questions. It’s not a matter of pitch, you cut me off                        regardless. As a ~FeMaLe~, boys often interject while I’m speaking without        even noticing.  Brew Boy, (right away): No thats not it. I’ve noticed you’re quiet. Seriously. Me: Honestly what does that even have to do with it please just stop                           interrupting me when- Brew Boy: Hey ya folks! How are we today? (turns toward couple in the corner)                    Are we thinking beer, food, or both? (My objection evidently was                          unable to sustain Brew Boy’s interest) I am accustomed to having these conversations. I’m patient with each and every brew boy, though constantly struggling not to demonize them all. I want to unleash one of the numerous diatribes rolling through my mind, berating their blissful ignorance and not giving a damn about whatever weak retort they throw back at me.

I am Hillary Clinton, debating President Trump. I do not throw a tantrum when men continue to do what I’ve asked them not to do dozens more times. Clinton showed great discipline and grace while debating President Trump, regardless of how many times he demanded to be heard over her, regardless of the offensive side-comments he made during one of his on-air tantrums. President Trump was forced to allow a woman to speak at length and he was not to interrupt. This was a completely foreign concept to him. To Clinton, however, the events of the debate was nothing new. She has spent her whole career working ten times harder to ensure her voice is heard over the steady roar of entitled, misogynistic, male politicians. Clinton was not rattled.

I am not graceful and have little discipline to speak of, but I often think of those debates and do my best to be steady and calm. To be fair, the brew boys are largely not comparable to President Trump in manner or intellect. That being said, my frustration does not waver.

I just don’t understand why these co-workers refuse to even consider my words. My projected self, as a woman, is clearly important to me. My interest in being treated no different from a man should not be considered such a grievance in the minds of these boys. Why they can’t just accept what I’m saying without attempting to find some other reason for their temperament?

The day got even more fun. 

Foreign Tourist Husband: Is the pizza thin-crust or thick-crust? Me: It’s thin-crust, and it’s very good! Foreign Tourist Wife: Okay, very nice, we don’t like deep-dish. (foreign couple                                      slowly turns from the host stand and they begin to walk                                         away) Brew Boy: ACTUALLY (clearly unable to contain himself any longer) I would NOT                  say the pizza is thin-crust. (turns his head towards me in                                      acknowledgment, chuckles at my fatal error and then addresses the                    couple) But it’s not deep-dish either. Its DEFINITELY between                              thin-crust and thick-crust. Like, medium-crust, you know? (foreign                      couple look back and forth between us with uncertainty, Brew Boy                      continues to grin at them) Me: 

Brew Boy: (grin starts to fade as my waves of rage wash over him) Oh, sorry, it’s                   just I didn’t want them to- Me: I’m from Chicago. I know my fucking deep-dish. Our *clap* pizza *clap* is          *clap* fucking *clap* thin *clap* crust. Brew Boy: (still nervous) Ha ha ha ha ha! (grins again and addresses the frozen                    internationals) I guess it depends where you’re from! Ha ha, ha!                           (foreign couple laugh along, clearly lost in translation, and make a                        break for the front door)

At this point I curl myself over the sanitation bucket and methodically start to ring out a rag in the dirty water, silently calling upon whatever spare divinity is available to give me enough strength to resist popping the lid off this kid, whom, by the way, is still grinning. 

Our next exchange was what was truly BASS ACKWARDS.

Brew Boy: Sorry. I’m sorry, okay? It’s just I didn’t want them to think they were                     having super thin-crust pizza, you know, cause it’s not super thin-                       crust. But I didn’t mean to interrupt you again. It’s mostly where I’m                     from, like my family and friends always yell and talk over each other                     at home. It’s where I’m from, it’s where I grew up. We always                               talk over each other. Me: Okay. Well, that’s interesting. I guess.

At this point I’m letting it go though I still disagree. He was taking responsibility in a way by acknowledging he was behaving in a way that was untoward. Brew Boy was not blaming me for these exchanges or attempting to invalidate my feelings. Perhaps I shouldn’t have settled, but that’s just the way it goes for me sometimes. But then this happened.

1 minute later

Brew Boy: Yeah. (still talking, folding menus mechanically) Yeah, so, all the girls I                   grew up with yell all the time. Even when they’re not mad. I have to                     yell and cut them off sometimes, you know? They are really insanely                   loud man. Me: (attempting to take a beat, barely) OH REALLY? It’s those CRAZY                         Pennsylvania girls, huh? Gotta keep them in line? Exactly what suburb are         you from again?

Whatever god I prayed to decided to TEST me today instead. Dance monkey, dance! 

Apparently, the town Brew Boy is from is populated with women who speak loudly, which of course, prompted him to correct the situation by ensuring he was always the one who was dominating the conversation in all his exchanges. It is because of those damn Pennsylvania females, that’s why he demeans me in my place of work.

Brew Boy has a problem with me "talking too softly” and has a problem with girls from his childhood “yelling”. Not too soft, not too loud. Talk a little, not a lot. This dude is the Goldilocks from my own personal hell. May he someday find the female frequency he finds to be just right.

This may seem like one of those famous PMS-induced fits people assume passionate women like me often suffer from. Or perhaps I can once again be accused of overreacting, as women supposedly often do.

Whether I shout or whisper, my words are not taken as law. My male co-workers speak, and their words are untouchable. Their statements are protected and regarded as concrete. Any thoughts or reactions I have are up for debate and tossed aside at will. If my male co-workers lexicon is concrete, the female lexicon can be reduced to hypothetical play-doh, readily passed around, torn apart, tossed aside. Most importantly, it is always regarded as malleable. 

I do not have an influence. I would argue it is because I am female. That is why my co-host made me especially angry today. I have zero influence on what is going on around me, and women categorically experience the same phenomena throughout their lives. If women were able to shape the person he was growing up, then convincing him to take my wishes as a woman seriously probably wouldn’t feel like pulling teeth from a seizing toddler. 

If women had such an influence, we would get birth control universally accessible and affordable! Hell, let’s get our birth control delivered to our door! For free! Instead, we have we have white male politicians actively blocking any steps taken to improve women’s healthcare. Viagra can be delivered straight to your doorstep, by the way.

There are so many forces at work that keep sexism alive, and it would be ridiculous to claim just one person or aspect of the machine is at fault for the society in which we live. I would love to do whatever possible to work away at these constructs and start to build a country that offers equal rights not just in name, but in practice. 

The arrogance of what I see daily is something I don’t know how to address. Birth control remains relatively unaccessible. This lawful contradiction, along with Brew Boy’s refusal to admit women experience sexism in the workplace, boils down to a matter of ego. And it drives me mad.

Countless incidents later, my shift was almost over. The familiar feeling of being defeated by my circumstances was beginning to wash over me. A man came over to the host stand and asked a simple question about seating. I answered his question. He looked at me then turned to Brew Boy, inverting my answer back to him.
