My plans if Sharon Carter is not a Skrull in Secret Invasion:

•Sulk about it for however long lmao

•Finally drop the MCU cuz I’ve been saying for years that if they lightwash Miles or Storm or do Sharon dirty one fucking more time, I’M OUT!

•Take a much needed break from anything Marvel related.

I haven’t done that since my Euphoria S2 era last year. Maybe I’ll get back to my Saints Row universe like I was gonna do before Euphoria had me in a chokehold for 5 or 6 months straight!

•Fancast either Tracy Spiridakos or Yvonne Strahovski as the Sharon Carter of my own MCU.

Like, I LOVE Emily and she did great with what she was given, but if they don’t take this chance to erase the PB mess and confirm that Sharon has been a Skrull since CW or FATWS, then I cannot continue to sit and watch as one of my favorite Marvel HEROES of all time is turned into a VILLAIN simply because the writers can’t think of anything else to do with her like idk… Oh yeah, LETTING HER BE A FREAKING HERO!

•Plus, there’s a lot of trauma that came with Emily as Sharon:

- MCU stans attacking us Sharon stans just for liking her.

- Fans of not one, but FOUR different ships came together to hate on Emily, Sharon, and Sharon/SteveSharon stans.

- Them harassing Emily over the kiss scene as if she wrote it.

- Them coming for her looks because she’s “not as pretty as Hayl3y Atw*ll or ScarJ0”.

- Hayl3y and Chr!s Ev*ns (mostly HA) talking shit about Sharon and SteveSharon, which only added fuel to the fire those crazy haters were starting.

- Emily being way less active on social media cuz of all the harassment she was getting over a damn fictional ship. I even got harassed by CE fans just for saying that what he did wasn’t cool.

- And there’s so much more that goes into it, but I just wanna put all that behind me, ya know? Of course fancasting Sharon wouldn’t erase what happened, but it would keep me from thinking about it as much when I see Sharon and feel like a fresh start 😌

But if Sharon IS a Skrull then I’m gonna be so happy and celebrate like crazy and demand an apology from everyone who ever hated on Emily/Sharon and said “No wonder I never liked her” after the PB thing! I mean, that wasn’t even in the cards for her during her first 8 years of being in the MCU! It was just some shit the FATWS writers threw together after C*vid broke out and they didn’t want to do the “Hydra leaking a deadly virus” storyline anymore, so they had to make someone be the mystery villain, and it was unfortunately Sharon!

Why Upstead happening won’t ruin a damn thing on Chicago PD.

AKA why it also might, just might make all the sense in the world.

Okay, guys. *takes a deep breath.* As resident, self-appointed captain of the #Upstead ship, y’all might dismiss everything I’m about to say cuz you think I have shipper goggles on, especially if you like another pair or just aren’t on board with Jay/Hailey happening romantically.

However, I would like to ask all Chicago PD fans to read this and hear me out a little - maybe take it with a grain of salt, do your thing. But let’s talk about the show in general, for a second.

What do we know about Chicago PD? For starters, that it’s really fucking intense, politics-ridden and filled with twists at every corner, that tragedy, drugs, anguish and pain are just part of a daily reality, as a police officer and as a simple resident of the city.

So, in that sense, I think any touch of love is pure and even more cherished for anyone involved - whether we’re talking romantic love or platonic love. I also believe what we’re meant to do is celebrate it for every character, especially since they all have their individual struggles/trauma and they deserve someone to share that weight with - on a romantic or platonic or even partnership level.

However, that is also precisely why I think it’s very wrong to think of any inter-team romantic relationship as fulfilling the “men and women can’t be JUST friends/partners” trope because, frankly, it’s a bit reductive to see it that way.

I think the show only went down the romantic route with the Intelligence Team as a creative decision when there were a lot of hints or a lot of potential to go there, hence Kim/Kevin staying platonic for 6 seasons because they were coded that way from the very beginning, same for so many other platonic relationships that never turned romantic even though the circumstances could have easily been created, even now, in season 6- Antonio/Kim, Antonio/Hailey, Kevin/Hailey, even Jay/Kim etc.

They only laid the groundwork for Adam/Hailey and Jay/Hailey this season and maybe there’s a reason for that.

To be honest, I am so sick of seeing people step all over #Upstead because it would ruin Jay’s character or some other far-fetched bullshit, when there aren’t any indicators of that, quite the opposite.

Guys, I hated Sophia’s exit more than anyone else, I am literally the biggest Sophia Bush stan on this entire planet. I worship that woman as an actress and as a creator. I loved Erin Lindsay with my entire heart and I rooted for Linstead until the end. What they did was very, very shitty and I can respect anyone not getting on board with Upstead solely because of that. I respect that and I would never argue against that - we all have our OTPs.

However, what I don’t respect is acting like Upstead would be damaging to Jay as a person or even character or the show, as a whole. That’s when y’all lose me.

Can we please, please stop acting like Adam is allowed to have two inter-team relationships and all is fine and dandy but if they do it to Jay, it falls into that same trope that men and women can’t be friends and it ruins his character?

Just say you hate Hailey and go.

If done right, Jay and Hailey getting together would make all the sense in the world - they laid the groundwork really great so far. If they don’t rush it, if they make it believable, how does it ruin anything, exactly, either for a casual CPD viewer or a die-hard fan of the show? I’d like to know. I just don’t see it.

And there’s something else that needs to be said that I think most of us can agree on - Jay Halstead deserves love, romantic love especially more than anyone else on this entire show - and I think, at this point in canon, Hailey can’t provide that but she might in the future. Even Tracy Spiridakos said it - with Jay, it’s deeper, with Adam it’s rather physical. Not stepping all over Upzek either - they can take it any way at this point in canon, but I’d say Tracy strongly hinted trouble in paradise for Adam/Hailey.

Even how regretful Hailey is here is clear foreshadowing of that. Why does she feel the need to explain anything to Jay who is nothing but a co-worker to her? You tell me.

My point is, inter-team relationships are a bit more complex than just - “oh, they’re pairing Jay with a new female partner because Erin left”. If that was the case, why not Kim? Why not someone he ACTUALLY had tons of development with? It wouldn’t have been far-fetched at all, if they wanted to go there.

Why give Hailey the chance to be this person for him instead, again and again?

Why make Jay be this person for her?

All I’m trying to say, to finish this up, is that #Upstead is not some ship that would happen out of the blue to piss anyone off - it’s actually been in the works this entire season and if/when it does happen, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. I also severly doubt it would ruin anything about the show or Jay Halstead’s character for the reasons stated above.

I rest my case.
