Notes: This went completely different to what I had planned from the start but I'm honestly very happy how it turned out. First attempt in writing Hot Rod/Rodimus. I love that flame boy! Also taking notice I've been managing to keep my requests within 1k, for now at least. Enjoy this hot stuff. 🥰

"Desk. Now."

Rodimus had barged into your office so suddenly, barking the order so bluntly that it made you snort a giggle. He's horny. Your conjunx is always damn horny in the weirdest of times, you find it quite adorable.

"Why?" You choose to tease as you keep your focus on the data pad in your servos, pretending you didn't notice what the fuss was all about.

"You're kidding, right?" His wounded expression almost makes you cave, but not quite. "Look at me! I'm all heated up and it's bothering me. I need to frag, like right now. Magnus has been up my aft all day!" You have to cover your mouth to stop yourself from bursting out laughing from his poor choice of words. "Not like that! Come on! Just a quick frag, that's all I need."

"Is fragging all I'm good for?" You set the data pad aside and lean back in your chair, leg crossing over the other on top of your thigh as you gave a lingering intense stare at him.

His shoulders slump down, defeated and letting out a heavy vent. "N-no, no, of course not, you're so much more than that. Please I just....please?" You could hear him beg all day.

Standing up you slowly make your way around the table and sit on top of it. Rodimus smiles like a giddy sparkling and skips over to you, though you stop him with the end of your pede, sly smile on your face.

"Easy now cowboy. Mama would like an apology."

"For what? What did I do?"

"You were very rude just then, demanding me to get on the desk like a spoilt brat. Mama doesn't like it when you get all bossy." Your voice was like silk, smooth and tender, yet also very controlling that latches onto him in a vise grip. Rodimus knows what you're doing.

"Really? We're doing this now? Thought that game was only for inside our quarters."

"What's wrong? Afraid for anyone to see just how you fall apart under your mama? Besides, you love it, me being bossy. You can't help yourself."

Gently you rub his heated panel with your pede, earning a startled whimper from him, causing you to smirk softly from his falling apart reaction just by a simple rub. The guy had zero self control over himself sometimes.

When he doesn't say anything, you add on. "Now, are you going to behave?" Though you do enjoy him playing the spoilt brat, you were pretty eager for a good hard frag as well. You just need to teach him some manners first.

"Yes...mama." Rodimus meets your gaze, optics fuzzy and cheek plating heated with a pink hue, giving him such a soft cuteness.

"Good boy."

Moving your pede you move it up against his chassis and rest it in a good flexible position under his chin. One thing he loves about you is just how well you can flex and bend yourself.

"Lick. Apologise to your mama."

Rodimus always wants to please you, and he never fails. Leaning down, he drags his warm glossa against your pede, kissing and licking the area at your command, sliding his glossa over your wheel and making it swivel a little. You smile, giddy with pride, loving the sight of him wanting to keep you happy.

"I'm sorry, mama." He whispers, soft baby blue optics moving up to look at you in the most innocent and cutest way.

"You're forgiven, darling." You move your pede off and sit back down, thighs parted with panel cover retracted and revealing your already soaking valve. "Now, you're after some stress release?"

"Yes, please." He vented heavily, the sight of you almost makes him overload right there standing. "Please mama, I'm begging you."

"Since you asked so nicely." You purr out in delight before taking hold of his waist with both your pedes, tugging him closer against you and grinding yourself against his hot covering. "Come on big boy, fill your mama. Don't hold back."

His broad, goofy smile is something you'll always lust after. You watch as his panel retracts and his throbbing spike bobs out, intensely hot and screaming for action. He doesn't hold back and spreads your thighs even wider, pressing himself against you as you keep yourself on the desk, right before he bluntly thrusts his thick length into your waiting and eager valve.

The desk shakes as he impales you firmly without holding back, just as you commanded. There's no pause and he sets a rough pace, thrusting his cable into you through an intense rut that is boiling through him.

Tightening your thighs, you hold on while letting out rowdy moans that fill the room, mixing in with his rigid grunts and hitched vents. You feel every bumpy ridge running across your channel, pulsing wildly like a rapid fire, sending bursts and sparks up through your entire frame.

"So good! Roddy, oh frag!"

"Oh mama, fragging good mama!"

In the room, you both always got creative, to keep things spicy between you both and the thrill to keep on rolling. You loved him, so much. He deserved the best and you're happy to provide that however possible.

His servos hold firmly at your waist as he drags you back against him with each thrust delivered, your flooding lubricants pooling against the rocking desk and dripping down onto the floor between his thrusts, fragging you thoroughly, and grinding his pelvic plating against your sensitive node.

He buries his face against your neck, dentas nibbling against your neck cables and holding you close as you embrace his roaring heat, thighs clenching tightly as your valve does too, sucking him whole.

Rodimus has been fighting with himself and holding back for as long as possible, until he simply couldn't control it anymore.

"Mama...mama!" He chants, hips rutting firmly against you before overloading, his thrusts still present to make sure you overload yourself, which proved to be easier as you don't keep yourself lingering behind and let out a thundering mewl and clinging onto him.

Your overoad bursts out heavily, your hips still grinding against him as you ride it out as you both let your cooling fans kick in and vent through the intense frag you just had.

His spike remains inside, twitching madly, making you whimper through your desire and reach your servo up to caress his cheek plating. "You're so big Roddy, filling mama so much with your fluids. I think you'll spark me for sure this time."

The talk about sparklings has happened, but with different wars happening, it wasn't the best time to raise one. Though that doesn't slow either of you down from fragging. Anything could happen.

"Oh darling, I fragging love you so much!" Rodimus praises his worshipping over you before taking your face under his servos and kissing you passionately, devouring your lips and coiling his glossa with your own with an intense greed.

Moving away together you let out a silky giggle and nuzzle your face into his neck, embracing the hot mech you call your conjunx endura as you feel his spike nest comfortably inside you.

"I love you too, Roddy, my handosme hot flame."

Bit of a long story, but this ocurred in 2020 when I was friends with someone who ruined my life basically (they turned into a seething terf and transmed all because I came out as nonbinary).

So, we were about to play warframe together, and I was customizing my Mesa Prime's appearance, one of the playable characters. This is her btw, her gimmick is being the gunlisnger crowd control type.

I posted a screenshot of her in the server we used to share, to which this friend replied "sexy cowboy boy". I was a bit confused, and innocently asked them "why're you calling my Mesa a boy? She's a girl." and they responded very aggressively "and?". At this moment, I kinda started to freak out because I had no idea wtf was happening and my friend started to sound angrier and angrier that "warframes don't have a gender".

Here's the thing, like a lot of people here, I enjoy repurposing waframes as OCs, sometimes changing the genders of some for fun. But Mesa as she is in the game and the OC version I have for her are female, and all the frames in-game are either male or female with the exception of Xaku who is the only canon nb frame.

So, basically I started dissociating and going "oh shit have I actually been getting a character's gender wrong the whole time?", I was actually stuttering from the panic and ended up disconnecting from the call because I was so distressed.

Now, any reasonable person would've tried to clear things up, but instead, this "friend" got angry at me for "not getting it was a joke", about my tendency to affectionately objects and animals "boy", but they somehow thought that applied to characters as well.

Worst of all, they admitted they could hear I was upset, but instead of stopping, they kept pushing this whole idea very aggressively.

In retrospect, I don't think it was a joke, they were using it as an excuse because they really wanted to antagonize me for being trans.

Enstars x Genshin au? Nah. How about

Enstars x Honkai: Star Rail au

I’ve just got rambles cause yeah I wanted to draw the designs but adhd brain hit like a freight train “oh I wanna draw this design” “n o.”

Anyways yeah just just rambles

How I’ll do this is “Enstars character takes Star Rail characters General role, however I’ll give them wiggle room and they keep their personalities, maybe even tweak their backstories”

So generally ALKALOID takes the Nameless/Trailblazers roles,

Hiiro takes Dan Heng’s role, however he’s not exiled for a past life’s actions, rather he “ran” from home and joined the Trailblazers to find his oldest brother (Rinne, who doesn’t technically take a role, I mean right now you could say in a way he takes a combo of Bailu’s and Dan Heng’s as well if you really want but yeah he’s pretty much role-less, free from the binds of the story) who was supposed to be the next Vidyadhara High Elder but ran away across the galaxy for unknown reasons

Also I say “Oldest brother” because I know in canon Rinne is Hiiro’s only brother, but in this au I’m gonna do a funny thing and make Luka be their middle child brother in the au because come on look at them, which means (besides NPC’s) he’s gonna be one of the few un-booted-out-for-Enstars-characters-to-steal their-lives-characters who just vibe for an epic crossover

Also yes this means Vidyadhara Rinnie, Luka And Hiiro

Or Luka is just adopted-💥

Then there’s going to be Mayoi as the MC, well, technically, he doesn’t take the Protagonist role in this au, Hiiro does still, So like. Imagine if Dan Heng was the protagonist/MC of H:SR instead like does that make sense?

I also think Mayoi would die if he was given the Main Protagonist role- Anyways why am I giving him a side protagonist version of Caelus/Stelle? Well one: he was my first favorite in Enstars, ever, and two: anxious wall gremlin is a very good stand in for feral raccoon (wo)man

And yes this means he’s now an artificial human with a stellaron inside him and could explode at any second

I also had the idea of Aria as March 7th, I…Don’t have anything for that except how they just make me think of the other, so that’s not really in stone

And Akiomi as Welt, just cause why not

Madara and Kohaku take Clara and Svarog‘s roles, (Madara Svarog and Kohaku Clara to get specific)

Kohaku taking Clara’s role if she had a big fucking gun/hj

For this au instead of Kohaku being a shy little orphan like Clara, he’s just a random teen that ran away, found Madara and they ended up as friends somehow, but technically Kohaku is in Clara’s role here, like just

“Yeah I found this big fucking motorcycle transformer cowboy thing and it’s my mom friend now”

Also I’m changing the type of Robot Madara is, instead of being the giant robot Svarog originally is, he’s now a transformer that turns into a motorcycle, because why the fuck not, it doesn’t matter as long as he has Svarog’s capabilities as well

HiMERU takes Tingyun’s role (starts slowly descending away, evil cackling in knowing both Enstars and Star Rail lore as I refuse to elaborate, but if you play both games like me we can evil laugh/cry together :))

Jin takes Jing Yuan’s role, why? *drops a second infodump*

It’s literally perfect to me, first of all, they’re both eepy old men who have the :3/=w= faces

Also I say “Old” but if Jing Yuan aged normally and wasn’t immortal he’d probably be like 40’s and Jin is 30’s, and I don’t think that’s actually old I just say old cause they both call themselves old at at least some point and the entire fandom and their mothers call Jing Yuan old/hj

They’ve also got a few similarities:

They both took paths their parents didn’t want them to (Jing Yuan being with the Cloud Knights when his parents wished for him to inherit the mantle of a scholar or official at the Realm-Keeping Commission and Jin being an Idol, when his parents wanted him to be a Doctor),

-They both lost one’s close to them (Jing Yuan losing his mentor (who is still alive but eehhhshshs he technically lost her-) and old friendships, Jin meanwhile lost his whole ass older brother)

-Both seem lazy but whenever it’s the right situation (For Jing Yuan it’s literally any situation where he’d absolutely need to take action, for Jin it’s his students in danger) Shit gets real

Also I just really want a situation where he’s constantly sleeping on the desk while Mayoi, Aria* and Akiomi* are just staring at him like “:/ are you sure this is the real general??? Are you sure this isn’t just a random lost guy?????” Maybe even finding him sleeping while standing up in hologram form

(*swaps aren’t in stone but what I’m going with rn)

Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog - Magnificent Sonic (Screenshots and Review)

Ever since I've played Red Dead Redemption 2, I've had a soft spot for Cowboy-themed media, so this episode was a lot of fun for me!

The story starts with a  mean looking six-armed robot fella named "Six Gun Pete" showing up in a desert town called "Tranquil Gulch". He antagonizes the town's Sheriff, and starts to open fire on him, blasting the hell out of his office as the Sheriff flees and, understandably, just decides to quit his job right then and there, not wanting to be shot! He manages to escape safely, no thanks to his apparently poo-brained horse who tries to run away backwards...

One of the customers appears to the fake robot father Robotnik created to trick Tails! Did he leave Robotnik? Is that someone else just wearing the same costume? I guess we’ll never know... Since the mayor has quit, Six-Gun Pete claims himself to be the new Sheriff of the town, just as Sonic and Tails arrive. Sonic is looking to relax a bit so he heads in the local saloon. Inside, he meets a nice possum gal simply named "Miss Possum" (reminds me of the weird names given to characters in the My Little Pony GameLoft game). She and Sonic flirt with each-other throughout the episode,  and given her attire and job, I'm not sure how to feel about...Her age is never mentioned so all I can do is hope she isn't too much older than Sonic to point where this would be squicky!

Anyway!  Six-Gun Pete enters the bar and tries to shoot Sonic, but Sonic tricks him into shooting his own head apart! Ouch! Luckily(?) for Pete it seems that this isn't where his AI was stored, as his body fumbles its way back to its robot horse and begins to awkwardly trek back home to Robotnik. The Town's mayor, a cute squirrel fella, asks Sonic if he'll be the new sheriff, but Sonic explains that he can't settle down in town as he and Tails are always on the move. The Mayor insists it will only be temporarily until he finds an official replacement, and both Tails and Miss Possum really like the idea of him being sheriff too, so he eventually caves and agrees to it. It's here I wanted to note that there's a lot of interesting and neat background characters in these opening sequences. There's a big pig gal in a cute green bathing suit, and also a glimpse of one of the Storks from Tails' new home, as well what looks to possibly be one of the fake robot parents from the same episode?  Lastly there's this cute coyote character who caught my eye because despite being mostly male-coded in appearance (by this shows very hetereonormative visual standards), also has feminine-looking eyelashes. I think this is the first time I've seen something like that in this show, so I now have a personal head-canon that this coyote is somewhere on the Queer spectrum. Maybe non-binary or a trans gal? (Makes me want to do some fan-art!)

I like to think that the Coyote there is either non-binary or a trans gal.

Back at Robotnik's base, what's left of Six-Gun Pete arrives as Robotnik is telling scratch and Grounder that he plans to turn the little desert town in a Casino that will give almost all of its profits to him. Unable to speak, Six Gun Pete draws a  stick drawing of Sonic as the sheriff to let Robotnik know what's going on. Robotnik shoots Six Gun Pete several times and also orders Scratch and Grounder to shoot themselves in the head! If this wasn't from a "YouTube kids" playlist I have to wonder if Youtube would've put their little "pretending to care about people" suicide content warning on this episode...

Well, that got dark in a hurry! Back at Tranquil Gulch, Sonic has been giving some laser guns to practice his shooting with. It turns out he's a pretty lousy shot. He ends up accidentally shooting a chickens egg that she was sitting on (holy shit, Sonic just murdered someone's kid?!) and is even proven to not be able to shoot the broad side of a barn. Still, after showing off that he is fast and clever enough to deal with danger in another ways, he gets to remain as temporary Sheriff.

Eventually, Robotnik sends Scratch and Grounder to town so that they can take Sonic prisoner. They arrive expecting a gun fight, but in a surprisingly peaceful move, Sonic convinces them to instead resolve their differences in a non-violence manner - playing a game of cards to see who will win. Specifically, Sonic wants to play Strip Poker, and it turns out he's really good at it, because by the end of game Scratch and Grounder have not only removed their cool cowboy outfits but also mostly disassembled themselves onto the table.

Another one for the hug collection! Not willing to take the loss, Scratch and Grounder wait until Sonic isn't around and decide to try a new trick. Scratch disguises himself as a human to lure Miss Possum into a coach to be abducted by him and Grounder, and apparently Miss Possum - nice  a gal as she is - isn't too bright, because she falls for his terrible disguise. Scratch and Grounder are trying to drive the coach into a canyon with Miss Possum inside, and finding out what happened,  Sonic rushes out to save her. Once he catches up and gets inside, a river-riding adventure ensues, with Sonic and Miss Possum safely arriving on a shoreline thanks to the flotation of the Coach, and Scratch and Grounder getting bashed up by rocks in the rapid section of the river.

I think Miss Possum needs glasses if she can’t tell that’s Scratch...poor gal.

Scratch and Grounder are moved the towns prison, and the cute coyote person from earlier goes to deliver a notice to Robotnik, informing him that the bail for the two is 10,000 Mobiums. This causes Robotnik to literally blow his top, and apparently his head is full of orange juice?

That looks...unhealthy?

In his fit of rage, Robotnik mauls a Sonic plushie he had laying around. This makes for some pretty wacky screenshots, if they were to posted without context! Back at the town, we see Sonic and tails guarding Scratch and Grounders cells. Tails is making a really nice drawing of the two badniks, and this scene actually triggered a childhood memory of mine - I remember watching this as a kid, when I identified a lot with Tails, and finding it really cool that tails liked to draw just as I did! Tails' art time can't last unfortunately, as Robotnik shows up in town, decked out in his own cool cowboy outfit. He has brought with him 5 other robots, whose names are all parodies of real-life famous cowboys. Also, one of them is a robot seen in the game Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. neat!

Sonic and Tails start running around, not wanting to try to outgun 6 foes at once, and gradually start picking off the bots as they scatter. Eventually, Robotnik catches Tails forces Sonic to do a duel with him. Miss Possum quickly gets an idea to take Sonic aside to "give him a proper outfit". What she actually does is secretly give Sonic a mirror to hide under a poncho, so that when Robotnik fires at him, he is able to deflect the shot and launch the blast back at him and his badniks. With Robotnik's butt whooped, Sonic decides it's time to move on and presents his badge to Miss Possum, so she can be the new town sheriff! This was a nice moment of seeing some female empowerment in the show, although it would have been better if she hadn't also been both damsel'd and  put in the story mostly just to be the girl who fawns over the male protagonist.

In the Sonic Says segment, Sonic breaks the fourth wall to explain that guns in cartoons don't do serious harm, but real guns are real dangerous and that kids should never play with them! Definitely sound advice. Weapons should always be handled VERY carefully, no matter what your age is.

This episode was lots of fun! As I said before, I have a fondness for wild west Cowboy aesthetics, but there's also a lot of fun and cute characters in the episode (most background characters in this show tend to be rather off putting in appearance, but the ones in this episode were quite cute). Lots of cool action scenes, and some cuteness form Scratch and Grounder. Despite the sexist flaws in her writing, I found Miss Possum quite likable too, as she was always very pleasant and nice. Plus, possums are rad! I also loved seeing all the characters get dressed up in adorable little wild west outfits.

Some of my OC's I've made

As a person who "dabbles" in game development from time to time, I have multiple characters I have made art of, for games that will most likely never happen. I'll just make a sort of list of them here because it seems easy to make these kind of compounded posts in Tumblr.

Yo, look at one of my Favorite OC's I made: Zex

I just really like how he turned out, I was used it in a asset class and the animations were kinda non-fluid, but I love the base static design I did of him.

The color pallet I did for him turned out really well, the grays and greens for the upper body and the offset blues and purple for his spindly limbs. I never had a fully concrete idea of what he would do, I just liked how he looked.

Next on the docket is my rootin' tootin' mystical gun shoonin' magi-gunner: Murrie

I have a lot of animations and weapons done for him that were mostly inspired by one of my favorite arcade cabinet games, Sun Set Riders. My goal was to make something that harkens back to run and gun games while it mostly plays like a mega man X game, just with the robot masters instead being western tropes or crazy mages.

One of my favorite process for him was making his silly mage-cowboy hat. It was an interesting process to do, inspired by this:

A lot of my process is using old sprites from my previous projects to make a better one over time. That's probably one of my favorite processes to do, the long time iteration that can be done.

Look at him go! The little hat animations were some of my favorite parts to do for these as I wanted to give the idea of it shifting ever easily.

Next is another magic caster, I call him Lim (mostly because It's shortened from little mage)

The setting for this one is an Isaac/Gundeon type dungeon place where he entered to fulfill his greatest wish. hohoho, what could that ever be.... Surely its not sad and regretful. He and the rest of a band of misfits will ever wander there trying to survive and find the Nexus of the Lost to fulfill their heart's desires.

The last one is my oldest put to pixel, Skeleman

I remember making it as I first started out pixel art back in 2018, he was haphazardly fastened together out of a better artist's character model and a pixel art skull I found when typing "pixel art skeleton" into google. I've iterated him a decent bit over the years, but I still feel a bit conflicted over using him as a base sprite because of how I created him in the first place. Anyways if I ever did try and actually do something with him, it would be a kirby or starfy like (overly cartoony action platformer with powerup abilities).

That's it! go home! I have more, but the rest are much more half baked that I may save for a later post. If I ever want to talk about what I did to create them in greater detail, or if there is an interesting story with any of the rest like how I did with Murrie.

Hi! If you were the main character of a book/movie/tv show: would you prefer the genre to be Sci-Fi or Fantasy?

Zero thought, zero hesitation: sci-fi all the way. I am much more of a sci-fi fan than a fantasy one - I honestly (broadly - there are of course exceptions) find magic systems dull, dragons even more dull, and once I experienced LOTR I had quite enough high fantasy for one lifetime, thank you. I also would like to be in a genre example that isn’t prone to rape-assault for ~contradictory realism~.

I’ve had a few conversations along this line in the last couple of months, and each time I’ve pointed out that mass effect speaks to my soul; dragon age speaks to me on a mechanical front: I was captivated by the idea of creating and embodying my character*. Of course, I did love the story and characters. HOWEVER if I had been introduced to ME first, I prob would never have touched DA (but I’m committed and in too deep, no matter how my interest in dreadwolf dwindles.)

I like technology, I like transportation, I like glasses/contact lenses/advanced surgeries that allow me to not fall down a well and die as a toddler. I am extremely fond of indoor plumbing. I do not like capitalism and unfortunately I am more likely end up trapped under that But In Space, but again: toilets.

I would of course rather not be in a sci-fi war scenario, or hell dimension ship amok. But I think space is incredible, I think spaceships are very extremely cool, robots/ai are a fascinating proposal. I Would Like To Meet the Aliens And Hold Hands/Claws/Tentacles. And meta-narratively in whatever toilet-having sci-fi dystopia I am being dumped in, I think there is more space to interestingly explore socio-political/moral/philosophical concepts.

Most importantly, I am really into a good jumpsuit, and also spacesuits. I also want to have funky hair if am to be a space protagonist. Aesthetics, babey

*Beyond Sabrina The Teenage Witch: The Animated Series: The Game on Gamebou, Sabrina the Teenage Witch Spellbound and the other less good Sabrina game was on PC, which I hadn’t played on a decade , DA:O was my first videogame. Bc I like to start high and then be miserable forever more. See anime where I started w Cowboy Bebop soon followed by FAMB and now I hate all anime.

End of the Year 2022! Honorable video game mentions

Here is the honorable mentions for the video games of 2022. I’m separating them somewhat in the list, but you’ll find both the pre-2022 and the 2022 lists here. They’re all generally fine games, just I quit playing them for various reasons.

Pre-2022

HM: Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance

A fun little Action RPG, but also ball grindingly hard. Perhaps it's because I went with the Wizard character but this is astonishingly difficult. I'll probably go back and finish it.

HM: Divinity: Dragon Commander

I like this game even though I'm not particularly great at strategy games. I enjoy the story quite a bit, but I'm undecided if I'll go back to it.

HM: Undernauts

A good dungeon RPG but I sort of just fell off of it. I played it for twelve hours or so, but I just kind of moved on to other games. I love the art style.

HM: Shining Song Starnova

I got a few hours into the game when my computer decided I didn't make any progress into the story and deleted my save. Idol Manager made me think about giving this game a go.

HM: Daggerfall: Unity

I am trying desperately to figure out why people like the Elder Scrolls games so much. This one is pretty good, but I didn't play it for any great length of time.

HM: Elder Scrolls Battlespire

I decided I wanted to try an Elder Scrolls that is a more straight forward game compared to the more open world options. I didn't get far in it, but I do intend on giving it a more fair shake.

HM: Titan Quest

I wanted to play an Action RPG, and I was drawn to the more Greek inspired look than the typical dark fantasy games in the genre. Really I just want to play the expansion set in China.  

HM: Torment: Tides of Numenera

I watched the opening movie and I thought it was pretty cool. Sadly I didn't play beyond the opening because I decided to play Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny instead.

HM: Open X-COM

I finally decided to take a real shot at trying to play "classic" X-COM, every other time I just sort of bounced off it. This time however I seemed to actually get a nice handle on how the game actually plays, so who knows maybe in the future I'll actually go through the entirety of original X-COM.

2022 Propa

HM: Evil West

Started this one just a smidge too late for it to be eligible for proper best of the year consideration. A fun hack and slash to be sure, kind of a cowboy pastiche of a Devil May Cry. It's a hoot.

HM: Steelrising

A soulsborne-esque yarn where you play as the robot bodyguard of Marie Antoinette during the robo-French Revolution. Sadly I didn't get particularly far before my attentions were drawn elsewhere.

HM: Conan Chop Chop

Decent little roguelite game.

HM: Card Shark

An interesting game with a unique selling point, being a game set in France's past and with the main gimmick being you're not trying to win the card games legitimately but by cheating better than your opponents. I should finish it some day.

HM: Pentiment

I love a good murder mystery. Sadly I had to let this one slide unplayed.

HM: Lunacid

You're spoiled for choice these days with Dark Souls derivatives, so it's nice to see someone go back and make a King's Field-like.

HM: River City Saga: Three Kingdoms

I enjoy beat-em ups and I thought a Kunio game set in the historical period of the Three Kingdoms sounds like a fun idea. I'm not sure I've played it enough to really pass judgment on it.

HM: Moonscars

One of approximately a hundred Soulsy Metroidvania dark fantasy games that came out this year. I liked what I played though.

HM: Tarnishing of Juxtia

See above, also it reminds me a lot of Blasphemous more than any other game.

HM: Souldiers

Unfortunately all these Metroidvania games came out too close in my mind so I kind of had to let some of them fall to the wayside.

HM: Weird West

Yeehaw.

HM: Salt and Sacrifice

I don't care for the character art, but the gameplay is generally solid. I don't know if I'd recommend it over any other of these Metroidvania types, but I thought it was pretty good from what I've played.

HM: Soulash

A fun pixel-graphics roguelike that I wish I spent more time with.

HM: The Last Hero of Nostalgaia

Allegedly a satire of Dark Souls and all those types, but I found it to just be a generally fun game to play. Maybe it really goes down hill, but from the demo I played it seemed pretty decent.

HM: Undecember

It's like if Diablo Immortal was a slightly better roguelite phone game. That sounds mean, but I actually quite like this.

HM: Thymesia

Bloodborne inspired game this time. Unfortunately I didn't play much of it because of all the other games vying for my attention.

HM: SD Gundam Battle Alliance

2022 was just positively cram packed with games that were generally pretty good and did what they set out to do quite well. This is a decent little Action RPG, and one day I hope to finish it.

HM: Valkyrie Elysium

One of the dozen or so games Square Enix released with practically no advertisement. I like what I’ve played so far, it just fell onto the back burner and out of my priorities list.

Thinking about the “out of character” aspects of the Backyardigans’ games and stories is really fun

In “Snow Fort”, Pablo and Tyrone are probably playing by the slide. Pablo can climb up to the top to look out from the second floor, but otherwise they’re just underneath it or they’re staying to one side of it and using it to mark the front wall (It’s not strictly either/or - exactly what part of the fort the slide represents would change whenever it’s needed to keep the game going smoothly). When the girls see the snow fort for the first time, that’s them noticing the boys playing over there. This is the point at which their two separate games merge into one. They try to see what’s going on and the boys break character to say that you can’t see us, this is our snow fort and we’re inside! And we just set a booby trap so now the stairs are the slide and you can’t get in! So the girls climb up the slide

In “Cops and Robots” Pablo probably doesn’t want to play a bad guy that day, which is why his robot character in the game keeps malfunctioning and messing up the evil stuff (but Tasha’s bossy and won’t just let him play a good robot)

In “Knights are Brave and Strong”, Uniqua has to go to Austin’s kingdom and what’s one of her obstacles? A gate. And of course, Austin doesn’t share the backyard with the others, so Tasha’s kingdom is the shared backyard and Austin’s kingdom is actually his house’s yard, and the gate in the game is the gate irl

“Robot Rampage”: The episode starts off with Austin saying he’s a robot repairman but lamenting the fact that robots never break so he doesn’t have anything to do. None of the other characters show up until we see the backyard change into the setting for the game. So I’m just picturing the other kids (or at least Uniqua and Pablo since she’s the first one to get involved and he’s the villain ofc) deciding to make up the plot just for him? Like they go “what if someone sabotaged the robots?“ and Pablo volunteers to be the bad guy and then uniqua goes over to Austin with her hand to her ear going “RING RING”

in “legend of the volcano sisters”, when the boys go to talk to the girls in the volcano, the girls are definitely just sitting on top of a picnic table ooc

The whole plot of “Viking Voyage” is just that Tasha is OP and roleplaying in bad faith. The others are playing Vikings and she wants to play mermaids instead so she’s like “WELL ACTUALLY mermaids are even tougher than vikings! And they’re really strong! So I tap your boat like this and it starts to tip!”

“The Secret of Snow”: So Tasha and Austin are playing together, Uniqua goes to try and talk to them/play with them and Tasha’s like biscuit no go play with someone else “Icy wind comes and... blows you away! All the way to... uh to Pablo’s house!” And Pablo’s by his house playing cowboy by himself. He isn’t part of Tasha’s game. But Uniqua melds the games and brings him to Tasha, they show up together and she’s like “ugh the wind blows you away to Tyrone’s house! Go play with him!”

In “Swamp Creature” OOC Tasha and Austin probably just thought that pretending to explore a regular swamp sounded like a boring game (compare it to most other episodes), but the idea of there being a swamp monster would make it interesting. So OOC Uniqua and Pablo are just convincing them to play with them. Tyrone overhears the swamp creature idea and decides to play along

“flower power”: “Hahaha I trapped you in a cage! You’re trapped! See the cage is right here you can’t leave” “Well- I use my FLOWER POWER and escape!” “NUH-UH it’s flower proof!”

“surf’s up:” Austin just like. Spins around and goes “okay guys just pretend I flipped a bunch of times in the air and it’s the raddest move you’ve ever seen 😎”

mine is a werewolf cowboy named will orville. his appearance is mostly based on the cowboy matt mercer voiced in overwatch (a game i have not played) he is a broken as hell gunslinger and i would ADORE playing a dark western/folk hero kind of story with him. his backstory is super tragic <3

so at this point im not sure i have a DREAM character?? i just counted and the total tabletop characters ive played, between dnd, motw, starfinder, wanderhome, and fiasco, is 19????? 3 of those longterm (bo is the shortest at like? 6 months playing him so far?). and i have 2 more that i've made or will play in upcoming games for a total of 21 ttrpg characters. and thats JUST as a player so not counting any of my npcs from various games. so like. at this point i have learned well enough that i can find SOMETHING im interested in no matter the base of the character. and starting with just that small little speck of something and building that into a character i am excited about is like? more intriguing to me at this point than having A Big Idea of A Perfect Character, if that makes sense. ive also learned that you DONT know who that character is really going to be until you get into roleplay so trying to plan ahead too much like. will fuck ME up, personally

that said, the next character that im rolling around in my head is a warforged, because i havent played one of those before and like. the genderqueer autistic in me is like MMMMMM, ROBOT. i like the idea of them having some sort of frodo-esque quest that theyve been tasked with, like a burden that they were given simply because no one else wanted to shoulder it. im not sure about class, it would probably depend on party comp in whatever game theyre entering and their backstory in the world. but ive also been VERY into broken multiclasses lately so probably would play with that if they were high enough level!!

F: Hello everyone at Zepp Tokyo! I'm DIR's manager Fujieda.

F: today in Tokyo it's the last day (...) now I'd like to invite two band members to start the talk event! Give them applause!

Shinya arrives, then Kyo.

Kyo wore a black beret and big glasses, blackish grey jacket, some yellow badge on the left side? and grey denim. Shinya (Yamo-chan) wore all black, double jacket? it looked very soft. When entering the stage Kyo did 'Fujifuji pose' to F...

F: today Kyo and Shinya came to the event! How are you doing, the two of you?

S: I'm always fine. 24h a day. Just got bit foolish in Sendai due to snow...

K: yeah... I'm also good...

F: for both of you it's your second time, going straight to the point what's the most impactful/memorable thing in 2020 for you?

S: not COVID?

F: from the band's point of view it is.

S: it didn't feel like being in a band. There were no concerts at all.

F: for you, Kyo? (pretending to eat)

K: PS5.

S: I see.

K: I couldn't get it. That's all I can think about.

S: I want it too, but not that much... can you play Dead by Daylight on PS5? having ps4 edition?

K: there's this thing I have, only get into it after it stops being so popular. I also didn't watch yesterday.

K: I read various things ... but I'm really excited about the new story from the Innocent.

K: I'm playing a bit online games (Fortnite), but I'm told I suck at it. When you suck at something it's usually better to quit, I'm told so, many times, why is this guy going that way or is he going to the enemy's site on purpose? I'm told things like that from 6:30 in the morning sometimes.

K: if I (my heart) get broken by that how should I continue living?

S: I'm being told 'how are you living?'. I'm using the pig character but it feels like I'm living like a pig. I can block out the talk, but I'd rather hear those terrible opinions.

K: but it's hard

S: it is really hard.

K: when I played with Fujieda it was going well! He told me, get down or make your nose bigger

S: it also went well when we played, don't go there, let's go there and so on.

K: but the fights take about 20 mins in DbD, right? I'm dead in Fortnite in about 10 seconds

Ta: 'what do you like about F?'

S: he's always full of energy and almost never gets sad

K: his nose? Doesn't it get bigger as you look at it?

F: is that a praise?

K: it's easy to breathe and the mask stays on. Hands down it's your nose.

F: 'what song would you like to listen to very loudly?'

S: I'm not good with loud sounds... I prefer to listen quietly.

K: in the past, when I was in elementary school I was happy when Santa came, but then at some point he stopped coming. Wasn't that a crime (Santa's visits)? and parents also don't know how he comes in, isn't that scary? And from that time he doest come. I don't want him to come anymore.

'What song do you want to play when you can do concerts again?'

S: And Zero. I saod that in Sendai as well, but if it's not mode of Arche we probably won't...

F: Do you want to play new songs?

K: I haven't listen to it (them). Isn't it how it is that you listen to them even when you weren't planning to? you dot feel like listening so much to the song you made yourself, no?

S: I also haven't listened to the new song(s) much.

Ta: Fujieda is listening to new songs a lot, in a car.

F: you don't want to perform new songs?

S: I already did while filming the music videos... doesn't that count?

'what time you go to bed and wake up?'

S: I go to bed at 6 and wake up at 1pm. It's my cycle.

K: I go to sleep at 1 and wake up around half nine. Should be around then? So there's someone who wants to know information like this?

F: they want to imagine (their lives)

K: and for what? Even if they know the time they don't know what we do

K: what time you wake up and then what time do you make coffee, make a toast, I don't understand why asking that, what's the point?

F: when the band has just started you two have met as first, right? What was your impression then?

S: I thought he's a really good person.

K: he didn't speak like this then. He spoke one or two things a day. He had long black hair and earrings.

S: You've bleached that black hair for me.

K: and, he said 'thank you' but... he said his kanji of the year is 心・heart, but he's the one without one. For over 20 years all band members are saying that he's like a robot or humanoid. When you go to his house he will reply with 'what is it?' with the chain on the door.

S: this is because when a certain member came some things happened...

K: But when I came over I was nice! I want to  visit! Remodel stuff! (with enthusiasm)

S: remodeling... (like the certain member) there are issues like that and that's why you're banned...

'is it weird if your mother comes to the concerts?'

K: isn't it okay?

S: and brings dad...

K: I'd love to see mother headbanging. The deep one when you start from waist!

F: do your parents come to the shows?

S: mine often come.

What do you think of the new FF game or Chaos Fantasy one remake?

It has a very specific vibe of, like, a 2009 Xbox 360 game. That era of like, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, or Silent Hill Homecoming, or Bionic Commando, or DmC. When Japanese developers were trying to "crack the western market" and doing it in the most hamfisted, bizarre ways.

"Oh no Americans don't like how weird Silent Hill is, so we'll have someone else make a Silent Hill where you play as an expat with military training, or a hardened criminal on his way to prison, those are things Americans like, right?"

"In the old Devil May Cry games, Dante looks like a gay cowboy. We want a Dante who looks like he has sex with women, guzzles alcohol, swears a lot, and fights Fox News, because that's the Western ideal of cool."

So now we have Final Fantasy Origin, starring the most stereotypically American-sounding protagonist, JACK. And Jack's whole thing is that he's ANGRY. And he BRUTALIZES the monsters. And there's BLOOD. And it stinks of "This is what we think America wants."

Except that, y'know, those four games I named at the start of this post mostly aren't remembered super fondly. Even the best ones (Lords of Shadow and Bionic Commando) aren't, like, outstanding or amazing games, they're just okay.

And like, I get it. Speaking personally, sometimes I look at these Final Fantasy games, and I think "Wow, that character looks really overdressed."

Boots, thigh highs, knee pads, pants, belts, straps, keychains, zippers, bracers, gauntlets, fingerless gloves, a trenchcoat, shirt, choker, neck tattoos, and probably an earring or two. On top of a sword that is also a gun with a grenade launcher, apparently. And feathery silver hair. This dude probably spends at least an hour getting dressed every morning before going out to kill trash mobs all day.

People have been making fun of it for years. Decades, even. And that FF14 guy there isn't even the worst example. I'd consider him conservatively dressed compared to, say, Tidus from Final Fantasy 10.

So it's telling when the key art for Final Fantasy Origin features Jack in a half-tucked shirt.

Again, it is deeply, deeply "this is what America wants, right?" This is their Final Fantasy for people who don't usually like Final Fantasy. It's Final Fantasy Mystic Quest 2.

I don't have a PS5, so I can't really comment much on the way the demo plays. Watching footage on Youtube, I think I agree with people that say it's a bit hard to read enemies. It's a dark environment with dark enemies and the whole thing is very difficult to see.

It also feels like the absolute worst case for all of Square-Enix's dialog and localization woes. Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 had what I think was supposed to sound like conversational dialog, but instead it just sounded super disjointed and alien, based on what I've heard (I don't own either game, but I've finished their demos).

We laugh at how the trailer for Final Fantasy Origin was obsessed with saying CHAOS over and over, but I think it's just a symptom of this same localization problem. Dialog that's supposed to sound natural and casual ends up feeling robotic and weird.

KarpReviews - Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) and End of Evangelion

It took me a good while to really get into anime. Well, maybe that’s technically not true, as I grew up with the Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh anime series. That’s really where my exposure to the medium stopped for a long time, though. There was scattered influence, such as an ephemeral viewing of Spirited Away on Cartoon Network, and access to one of the Naruto fighting games. Ultimately, though, I hardly knew what anime was until high school. It was around this time that I would occasionally stay up late to watch Toonami on Saturdays. Toonami provided me with several of my first and favorite anime series, including Cowboy Bebop, Deadman Wonderland, and Soul Eater. One night, however, I found myself treated to something completely bizarre. 

I can’t say for sure exactly what I had watched, though my current knowledge suggests it was one of the Evangelion recap movies. These are abridged versions of the series that tell the story in a more condensed format, though it’s possible I just caught a few episodes of the regular series. The show itself was overwhelmingly confusing and bizarre, with concepts my teenage mind struggled to grasp, and characters that seemed strange and depressing. It certainly didn’t help that I was watching this show in the dead of night while sleep repeatedly attempted to pull me down. I was mesmerized regardless, and the images I saw never left my mind. 

It wasn’t until now that I decided to finally watch the series in its entirety. I was excited to figure out exactly what I’d seen, why the robots in the show looked the way they did, why the “monsters” had such abstract and strange designs. Most importantly, I wanted to experience one of the major pieces of Japanese animation that had influenced so much of popular media. Thankfully, Neon Genesis Evangelion did not disappoint. 

To briefly summarize for those who still haven’t seen the show, the main premise is that, for one reason or another, Earth has become assaulted by powerful beings known as Angels - strange monsters that threaten humanity with their otherworldly power. An organization called NERV, led by Commander Gendo Ikari, plans to protect humanity and destroy the Angels with mysterious and strange humanoid mecha named “EVAs.” They can only be piloted by particular children, one of whom is the main character and Gendo’s son, Shinji. The Angels themselves, as well as their lore, hearken to Christianity, though in the same way that American media loosely uses Greek mythology. While the premise of the show seems to match that of other mecha, such as Gundam or Macross Saga, Evangelion is more about it’s heavy, layered theming as opposed to mecha and kaiju battles. Evangelion’s storytelling is rich and layered, yet I never found it to be overwhelming or poorly paced. Even though it’s dark tone is prevalent throughout, the battles between EVAs and Angels are still exciting and enjoyable on their own, each encounter building the stakes higher and higher, until it almost feels that everything will suddenly explode. Almost. 

Visually, I think Evangelion holds up phenomenally. The animation style is instantly recognizable while still carrying the same charm that many 90′s anime have. Characters are expressive and animated when they need to be, and backdrops are detailed and colorful. I was blown away especially during the show’s numerous fight scenes. Unlike the bulky mechs featured in most media at the time, the EVAs are nimble and powerful, often performing acrobatic feats or creating stunning displays of destruction. I was absolutely captivated by the designs of the EVA’s and Angels, just like I was in high school. The EVA’s are both incredible and sinister, immediately intriguing just from their design alone. Just looking at one makes you want to know more about them. The character designs are simple but still memorable, which matches their personalities well. What I love most about the visuals of this show, however, isn’t the fluid action or expressive characters, but the implementation of long shots and surreal visuals. Several times throughout the series, the show will linger on a single frame for an extended period of time. There’s no dialogue in these segments, just ambient noise or background music. These moments are some of the most engrossing, trapping the viewer in a single uncomfortable moment, such as the gruesome aftermath of an Angel attack, or a long elevator ride following an argument between Asuka and Rei.

Speaking of, the characters in this show are truly fascinating. Nearly every character is layered and interesting, and each one has their own ways in which they deal with the pressure and terrors of the world around them. I was surprised with how much I ended up liking Shinji (during the main series that is, but we’ll get to that) whose awkward and conflicted personality can be easily polarizing to viewers. I thought Asuka was a nice foil for Shinji, and an entertaining character on her own. She is a bit rough around the edges, and her loud and often self-centered personality can be grating at times, but ultimately her presence is a positive one, and I feel she inadvertently pulls other characters out of their shells. Rei, the third part of our pilot trio, is quiet and mysterious, and she adds to a lot of the show’s intrigue. My favorite character is easily Misato. On top of keeping the younger character’s intense personalities in check, her own story is one that the show graciously gives a lot of attention to. Watching her start to work through her demons was thoroughly compelling to me, and I felt that even through her faults she always tries to be mindful of the people around her. Ryoji was another character that I was a bit worried about after his introduction, but thankfully he had much more going for him than his flirty, aloof attitude. The one person that I never got totally sold on, though, is Gendo Ikari. While he’s certainly integral to the plot, his character was too nuanced for my liking, and it dampened his impact on the story. He’s also one of the characters who I can confidently say isn’t a good person, making his presence even more distasteful. Important for sure, but generally unpleasant. 

Perhaps the most memorable piece of this show is it’s music. Truly, every single track within this anime screams “iconic.” The catchy drumming of “Decisive Battle” constantly plays within my head, a track that helped every Angel encounter feel like an elaborate chess game. “Angel Attack” has a memorable, intense melody that felt appropriate for the show’s surreal and powerful monsters. Of course, nothing needs to be said about one of the most iconic anime openings ever, “Cruel Angel’s Thesis.” By far my favorite, though, has to go to “Komm, süsser Tod.” Playing during the finale of End of Evangelion, this hauntingly beautiful song fits the show perfectly, from it’s use of choir-like vocals to the chaotic mess of strings towards the end. Every song in the show’s OST is wonderful, and I often listen to various tracks while I’m working. Even if you don’t want to watch the show, I strongly urge you to check out the soundtrack anyway. 

Deep within these varied, elaborate pieces, behind the catchy music and incredible action set pieces, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a show about depression. Each character struggles with this in a different way: Shinji keeps his distance from those around him, despite needing more than anything to connect to another human being. Asuka searches for validation from the people around her, becoming angry when anyone takes attention away from her, afraid that she’ll be ignored or forgotten. Rei struggles in general to feel like a real person, to become more than her birthright and her purpose. Misato tries to drown herself in her work and in alcohol, keeping herself in denial while she tries to distance herself from her past. In some ways, the EVAs represent the responsibilities of everyday life, highlighted by Shinji’s struggle to fully commit to his obligation of protecting mankind. The characters in this show are broken, messy husks, and for almost the entire show these struggles seem impossible to overcome. These themes and motifs become especially true starting with episode 16, where the show begins to slow down and focus on its characters as the final Angel threat is thwarted. Ultimately, however, the message of the original series is a hopeful one, sending the viewer off with the message that only when you’re able to help yourself can you finally start to truly connect with and help others. It’s a poignant message and one that I think the show earns by weaving it’s theme of depression throughout the entire show, not just focusing on it near the end. 

The end, however, is where Evangelion becomes a truly fascinating piece of media. Part of what makes this true is that, actually, Neon Genesis Evangelion has two endings: the final two episodes of the show, and the movie appropriately titled End of Evangelion. The series has separate endings for a couple of reasons, actually. While I won’t explain it in depth here, the summarized version is that the latter episodes of Evangelion, starting with episode 16, are subjected to a bit of a paradigm shift following production issues and budget cuts. These later episodes are where the various characters’ faults take the forefront of the narrative, and the action scenes become scarce. The final two episodes take on an especially bizarre nature, analyzing the characters within the context of the show, using abstract visualization and disjointed dialogue to do so. Personally, I’ve grown to appreciate this ending. As I mentioned before, while the focus does change towards the end, I still believe the show was always more about the heavy themes than it was about the robot fights. Many, however, do not share my opinion. When the finale originally aired, many viewers were incredibly unhappy. Unreasonably so, as thousands sent angry letters and death threats to the studio, griefing the creator for his vision. They called for a different ending, one with a more satisfying conclusion, with more action and a clearer sendoff for Shinji and the other characters. 

Needless to say, creator Hideaki Anno obliged them. 

Releasing in 1997, End of Evangelion is perhaps the most spiteful piece of artistry ever conceived. While the original series ended with a message of hope, this film turns the series on its head and creates a narrative that simply reeks of despair. Junko Enoshima  could only dream of creating something so explicitly hopeless. While Shinji takes his first steps towards healing in the original ending, this film features a Shinji who has completely and utterly given up. He’s succumbed to his base desires, numb to the world around him in a way that’s turned him into a monster. His thoughts and actions are violent and abusive, he becomes completely deaf to the needs of those around him, and in a few short minutes of this film, he becomes almost completely irredeemable. He knows he’s become a despicable shell of a human being, but he almost seems to revel in that fact. This version of Shinji is utterly useless, and his actions - or rather inaction - causes the complete destruction of everyone he loves. This film is depressing, it’s uncomfortable, and it’s absolutely unconscionable...

And I loved it. 

In context, it’s hard not to imagine that End of Evangelion is a deliberate slap in the face to the fans who so ruthlessly tore apart the original ending of the show. It completely reverses the progress that was made in the original series, opting to create an ending that is more intense and action-packed, but at the price of turning Shinji, the audience surrogate, into a complete bastard. Watching the film for the first time is almost infuriating, especially as Shinji repeatedly destroys everything in his wake through his own self-loathing. Yet, after letting the film sit in my mind for a while, I found it to be a truly unique piece of art. It’s hard to stomach, and I don’t think I can recommend it, especially on its own, but End of Evangelion is a truly fascinating film. 

As a whole, I’m extremely happy I decided to go back in time to watch this old classic. I believe it holds up incredibly well overall, and it has so much to say in just 26 episodes. Watching it reminded me a lot of Samurai Jack and Cowboy Bebop, especially with its use of masterful long takes and thick atmosphere. If you haven’t given this anime a shot, I strongly recommend checking it out on Netflix or wherever you can get your hands on it. It may not be for everyone, but for this kaiju-loving gal, it exceeded every expectation.

Ohhh well. First of all. Welcome to the nerve wracking, nail biting, jaw clenching, gut wrenching, heartbreaking and utterly incredible world of (ice) hockey. Angry muscle machines on skates chasing a tiny rubber puck in the nhl and their goddess equivalents in wnhl - what’s not to love?

You’ve decided on a hell of a year to join. Due to Covid, the normal system was paused and a recent bubble playoffs series played and later won by Tampa Bay Lightning a few weeks ago. The new season would’ve begun last week but is currently expected to start around December.

I’d say the best starting point would be to watch some games - YouTube has a lot of highlights, game compilations etc. and browse hockey tumblr. Hockey tumblr is a great combination of hockey gossip, game reviews, fans sharing their love, passion and (hateful) opinions about players, clubs and the sport in general.

My personal team faves are a handful - you see, the league is “split” into two conferences - east and west and within here a few other divisions dictating who the teams will play on a more recent basis. The clubs in the nhl being split over North America and Canada means a lot of ground to cover and therefore it’s split like this - time zones, distance and whatever. So maybe decide on a conference first? East or west.

I’m an eastern conference gal meself, but the west sure has its merits too.

I am a personal fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins 🐧 they play good hockey, in spite of their idiot general manager (I’ve got posts detailing why he’s an ass hat extraordinarie). They’re captained by Canada’s hockey savior, Sidney Crosby: hockey robot, yellow crocs enthusiast , triple gold member (youngest captain to get all three?) and the goodest boy in the league. He’s been heralded as the next great one yada yada since he was about 5? And shot pucks into a dryer back in Canada - with that came a lot of shit for the poor guy who, in his own words, just wants to play hockey. And he’s good. He’s got his team of French Canadian d-men (letang, dumo), a whole lot of goalie drama which seems to be a pattern and his Russian (husband) assistant captain Evgeni Malkin who’s got the cutest kid, a really cool wifey (seriously her insta is 10000 better than geno’s own) and a wicked sense of humor which he conviently hides behind his “English big bad today” excuse to avoid media on a daily basis (he’s played this card since his wild escape and temporary defection from Russia back in 2006) seriously google it. It’s wild. They’ve won three cups since 2009, they’re contenders in the playoffs most years and their pr department provides some hilarious videos of captain Canada and his Russian (husband) A. It’s a true love story. Sue me. We’ve got an intense rivalry with philly and the caps. Seriously. That orange flyers jersey is intense - even if philly’s mascot is the next president.

Funnily enough, my strange obsession with Russian hockey players have led to the most disturbing but developing club crush on the Washington capitals who are the penguins’ nemesis.

I mean, this club led by the one and only gr8 8 mr Alexander Ovechkin is a rollercoaster of emotion and hot daddies in skates armed with sticks and a murder Swede.

So. Washington caps used to be a joke in the league until they went and drafted mr ovechkin first overall, brought him to the capital and let him do his thing. He’s got a rep for being a hell of a lot of fun on the ice (if you’re on his team) and one of those players that people love to hate (even if they can’t take away how freakishly good he is at hockey) - look up his impossible goal(s)! He’s an exuberant, fun loving Russian with a heart of gold and a missing tooth. In 2007, the caps went shopping for a center just for ovi who needed a playmaker and a slap shot feeeder - they went and drafted the Swedish angel (maybe assassin) (Lars) Nicklas Backstrom - and the purest hockey marriage was forged. The actual words (we needed a center for ovi and ovi wanted backstrom) have been said. Yes, these two Are now famously the mama and papa of the caps and they have a roster of unruly (and handsome) hockey babies with the fighting menace Tom Wilson, bird impersonator and Russian cat Evgeni Kuznetzov and a whole army of other adorable (albeit hockey playing menaces) babies. Most recently they had the leagues daddiest daddy goalie Mr Holtbeast as the fun and handsome canadien cowboy uncle but he’s ventured to Vancouver to adopt a new group of hockey babies. To compensate, the caps went shopping in New York and brought the one and only king Henrik from the crease in msg to be the goalie mentor for baby Russian caps goalie and to keep the daddy energy flowing.

(Seriously why are Swedish players part time models? Their national team strategy is to be so handsome the other teams are distracted. It’s a thing. Look it up)

I also love a handful of other players on other teams (I really don’t dislike any team in particular - but you’ll meet some dedicated and strong minded fans here)

Erik Horse Johnson, Cale Makar and Nikita Zadorov (Colorado Avs - zad have recently been traded to the blackhawks (not sure how I feel about that). Phwucking fun team. Who needs teeth anyways.

The Dallas stars and the most precious bean of them all (Russian) dobby - Anton khudobin their backup goalie turned playoffs hero and fashion icon. The man said we’re not going home and threw the entire team on his back and dragged them to the final. And their homoerotically charged captain and his alt captain and their Hollywood epic soap worthy relationship. Stallions, people, Stallions...

Btw we like to project our brash queerness onto this league. You’ll learn why quickly. There’s only so much talks about hot hands, slick moves, eternal love for teammates and quite frankly obscene (sexy) amounts of kneeling, roughing (let’s face its it’s just aggressive cuddling) and teammates honorably defending teammates.

Anyways. I love hockey. He. Sorry.

Fun fact I’ve dragged @canesinthecrease kicking and screaming into the hellhole that is the caps and I’m working on convincing @dontpuckwithme about the incredibly sexy thing that is Russians and Canadians being secretly married in Pittsburgh.

HLVRAI takes place in a video game- but how does it work?

in the world of hlvrai, half life vr is in fact an actual new game from valve (released in 2020 because of coomer’s line that one time)

HOWEVER, it’s an experimental beta tester copy given to the player

more likely, however, considering the player’s insistence to roleplay and general confusion of features, the player isn’t an actual game tester themselves- they probably got a copy off the internet or from an outside source

in this universe, valve is probably still as big as it used to be in its hayday- taking all holly’s gags about extra features like a hunger meter and a staff ghost gives off the impression that valve grew as a company and wanted more stuff to advertise for what’s admittedly a clunky game for 2020 standards

the player is aware this is a game- however, they wanted to roleplay as gordon and act accordingly (most likely thanks to the influence of machinimas like freeman’s mind)

they’re known to get a bit “too into it” though- they not only act as if this is real, but the player eventually ends up caring deeply for the npcs, which is why the player is GENUINELY MAD about the betrayal etc etc

some of the anxious confusion also comes from the fact that this is just not how the games supposed to be

(benrey ended up actually sending a shock through the right vr controller to simulate the betrayal- so the players right arm did hurt for a bit)

should add that the player here isn’t wayne. with the fiction rtvsolutions has brought to the table, the “player” and wayne being one and the same is impossible from a storytelling standpoint, as wayne knows it’s just him and his friends in gmod

the player, to contrast, is played only by wayne as “gordon”, but gordon also expresses the fact he knows he’s in a game.

so it’s a player who would have HLVRAI as a real game, basically.

part of why the AI becomes so self-aware and breaking the laws of the game is because this is still a beta tester copy- this specific copy would likely designed with the early stages of “self-aware AI” in mind, meaning most testers would probably stick to basic yes or no answers or greetings

it’s because also the ai encounters two personalities it wasn’t expecting: gordon’s and benrey’s

benrey himself was never supposed to be the way he was

despite barney being one of the iconic half-life characters, the real barney calhoun is canonically only seen by gordon near the beginning of the game

benrey is somewhat of a “cancer cell” in the game- he was originally a mistake, a glitch- but being around the other NPCs not only caused them to become more “off the rails”, but made benrey more powerful in terms of the game

the longer the game went on, the more benrey ruined it-

unintentionally, he corrupts the NPCs of the game just by being near the plot trigger (that’s gordon)

every mistake and bad line of code the game does is thanks to benrey existing and fucking the source up

intentionally, he’s become so powerful/made the game’s code so weak that he’s able to just rip it open and assign himself as the final boss

since half life 1 has close ties to the source engine, benrey is able to break the game’s rules and borrow gmod assets (ie the wowozela, and changing his model to be a skeleton)

he also switched gordon’s model to an armless one to “add some excitement”

his final boss form is when he discovered packs on gmod and had a field day

he is able to look at files in the player’s computer, which is how he knows all the stuff he does

however his power isn’t enough to escape the game completely until the acab stream (which puts a whole different spin on the HLVRAI game)

although benrey is a glitch, he was still originally an NPC. his NPC quality is somewhat like cleverbot or ai dungeon- his stories are wild, nonsensical, and may come out of nowhere if gordon says even one thing a bit oddly. like cleverbot, benrey’s AI also has trouble registering when stories are his- although on a fundamental level, benrey is aware gordon is asking him about “when were we friends”, he can’t comprehend enough to say an answer that isn’t “whuh?”

(his repetition of “can i see your passport?” and “you’re not supposed to be in here” may also be his default lines- being a glitch, he would either not have any or be able to ditch the usual guards’ “what the hell are these things?”

tommy is arguably the least NPC-like, but that’s because he is the most important NPC.

he’s the g-man.

in a technical sense, i mean. the g-man was upgraded code-wise to be able to be a “self-aware ai” of his own, but somehow (most likely thanks to benrey being there), the class “g-man” was duplicated- and that’s tommy.

tommy has all the same abilities as the g-man, but since he registers himself as his own being, he’s not really aware of them

all his “seeing faster” from soda is actually the g-man’s timestop

this is why the g-man sees him as his “progeny”- he sees duplicate code but it’s a different person entirely

tommy never fully realizes he’s in a game until the acab stream- it’s not really distressing to him, considering he’s found the news right after gordon’s rescued him from a finished game

he didn’t pick up on the cues that it was a video game because he is an “important NPC”- story events and maps work smoother around him

this is also why he’s the least talkative of the group- unlike tutorial NPCs, it was never tommy’s job to help gordon around the maps

tommy found sunkist after benrey left him laying around from messing around in gmod, and he used the in game science equipment to effectively make him immortal lore-wise

bubby was supposed to be another tutorial NPC, like coomer, but the game messed up and he was assigned both “tutorial NPC” and “hostile NPC” (eg. what happens to a guard whenever anyone bumps into them). that’s why he’s so grumpy. his nature of overconfident attack, only to run back screaming, is a direct result of his two AIs conflicting

dr. coomer is pretty much spelled out from holly’s great performance- a tutorial npc who is also busted

as for why he got busted? too much unpredictable things happening around him. it mostly blossoms from the resonance cascade itself

coomer’s code indicates that RESONANCE CASCADE means ONLY GORDON SHOULD BE HERE

but that’s just not what happens, so he just gets a bit... busted

darnold appearing so late is a result of the bugged game being played for so long that it starts accepting the crazy lore the glitched AI has been feeding it

effectively, the NPCs have the power to change the game because gordon keeps going along with what theyre saying and treating it like fact

which leads to a feedback loop of “yes, and” that causes the game’s cybernetics department to bust and darnold to throw out the complete non sequitur of a mixology department

thanks to this it’s really hard to say why darnold is what he is

however, he still has NPC traits- like the devil gun spiel and how log says he was supposed to break down as soon as they stepped through the door- that’s his dialogue trigger

effectively, he’s a tutorial NPC for a broken area of the game, making him a “self aware AI” just as much as everyone else is

forzen speaks as casually as benrey does, but that’s because they’re “best friends”

forzen used to be a regular soldier NPC who had a pretty run-of-the-mill “mean soldier” AI, but benrey got bored after disappearing time and time again, and decided to make a friend

after copious use of the wowozela and making forzen his “plus one” for looking around the computer, forzen decided being a soldier was lame and he just wanted to graduate

he’s basically “benrey junior-“ a cell infected by the cancer cell that benrey is

the g-man somehow remained pretty spot-on throughout this whole debacle, but once again benrey ruins things

g-man has the level of awareness that tommy does, but since he already has the programmed personality of “the G-man”, he goes about his lore-breaking ways exactly as the g-man would

which is somehow going to chuck e cheese.

basically, benrey is responsible for most of the AI being fucked up- tommy being a dupe plot NPC, bubby being two NPC codes combined, coomer being flat broken, darnold being a sequentially generated NPC, forzen being benrey’s little sith apprentice, and g-man being a father

to end this off: the player has a son named joshua but it’s a little robot gifted to him by a friend who rigged it to have a terrible tts voice that talks about cowboys a lot

Oh crap, I'm supposed to be fixing that spot on Maui's leg where the tattoo wrap-around doesn't line up...

I've never really played a vampire Sim though... This game needs more Occult; I hate the idea of using a Vampire for Beast. I haven't done Fame yet either: ooh, I should make a vampire cowboy rockstar!

What was I working on again? Right, Shan Yu textures. Still debating whether I want/need to make his racoon-tail things match how they actually look in the movie...
